Excellent chef oriented restaurant

By arttourist999 |

Went back for the first time in months and weren't disappointed. Good service, imaginative dishes, and amusing drinks. This is one of those places that gets everything right. Nice salads and really well done entrees. Not a budget joint but less expensive than the tony joints in nearby Decatur.

Great Birthday Dinner

By BucketList_Traveler1 |

My husband took me here on my birthday which feel on a weekday. I loved it, the drinks were incredibly tasty. The servers were quite friendly. I think it was a little pricey but worth every penny.

Gourmet food at good price

By Samuel M |

This is a very good restaurant with excellent food. Location is a bit out of the way. There are definitely areas of the restaurant more desirable than others. When you walk in, the area to the right had light airy tables by the Windows. The main entrance hallway has tables with little to no atmosphere. There are two tables in the bar area where we were seated at this last visit and while very comfortable, there were guests with laptops sitting in a central area of the bar. Service was excellent and food was excellent. If you are looking for lots of atmosphere for a romantic dinner, this is probably not your place. It is almost like an upscale neighborhood restaurant, but food will not disappoint.

Loved It!

By TraceyA1967 |

Darling Husband and I enjoyed dinner a couple of months ago at Floataway Cafe... we'd never been there before, and we loved it! He had the grilled octopus starter (and practically did somersaults, he was so excited) and then duck for his entree. I didn't try the octopus, but I did try the duck and it was delicious. Rare, but with crispy edges. I had a nice salad with apples, pecans and gorgonzola for my starter, and a pasta dish with veal meatballs for my entree. Very tasty. For dessert, we split the warm toffee pudding... WOW... adjectives fail me! An excellent meal - we'll definitely be back!

Avoid This Restaurant!

By sebljo |

Based upon Trip Advisor reviews, my wife and I made reservations here on May 28, 2008 during a recent trip to Atlanta. We were very disappointed for several reasons. First, the restaurant is very hard to find, even with a GPS. It's about 6 miles from downtown Atlanta, and is located on a dead end street in a heavy industrial area, with several street people hanging around nearby. Scary, especially in the dark. The restaurant itself is located in a converted warehouse and furnished with old, well used second hand furniture, the kind of stuff you'd see at a Salvation Army store. But the prices are astronomical: the least expensive glass of white wine was $15 [the waitress bragged to us that $15 is the least expensive wine by the glass they sell]. Appetizers are in the $20 range. The menu was very limited and appeared to be aimed at the avant guard customer who might think nothing of dropping $200-$250 for a dinner. We cancelled our reservation after some drinks and made our escape. There are many wonderful restaurants in Atlanta, but this is not one of them. Avoid it or prepare for a disappoinment.

Amazing Trout

By jeaniemarie56 |

The fresh Mountain Trout is outstanding -loved every bite if it! The in season veggies were served perfectly cooked and so delicious. Great experience!

Still Has It

By sfinestone |

My wife and I have always enjoyed Floataway, but it seemed to fall off our radar and we had not dined there in a few years. A Groupon came to my attention and we decided to give it another chance, and are delighted that we did. I have read recent reviews and am surprised, as we had excellent food and efficient and delightful service, We started with the blue crab fritter which was wonderful. We then enjoyed the hanger steak frites, where the meat was cooked to perfection and the seasoning brought out all of the flavors. The frites were perfect. We finished with the warm toffee pudding. The visit was a delight and we plan to return very soon and very often.

great meal

By podoho |

went there last sat night with my fiancee - she had the trout and I had the hangar steak - both meals excellent - nice atmosphere, in a somewhat out-of-the-way area of ATL - she also had the blue crab appetizer that she went ga-ga over as well...we would definitely go back there again - nice wine and beer list too!

Wish service matched setting

By bikecobb |

We have occasionally visited this restaurant over the years and invariably enjoy our meal. Last night was no exception - with qualifications. Getting our cocktails was an ordeal; it took 30 minutes to get our first and not much less to get our second. I ordered a braised lamb shank that was very good; our friend ordered red snapper that she felt was well prepared. My wife felt her entree was nothing out of the ordinary. Dessert got mixed reviews with the chocolate cake really not worth the calories. We were seated near the window that looked out on a lovely natural area that had gratefully not been overly manicured. We will certainly give this restaurant another chance but it does need to up its service game.

Float On In For Good Food and Fun Dining

By Whatyahave |

Floataway Cafe is a hipster spot in the funky Zonolite Industrial area of midtown. Loads of separated dinning areas and cool bar. This Saturday evening, the joint was jumping with the Morningside-Emory-Buckhead young professional crowd in abundance. Great glass and metal with large glass window doors for milder weather. (Be sure to bring your “too dark to read the menu light” or Smartphone flashlight app). Avoid the dinning area to the right of the entrance door in winter. We were immediately seated there but it is a bad spot as very cold air rushed in every time customers entered or exited. (Wish we had thought about it but were well in to our order before it began to distract from the experience). The waitress was friendly but I thought was a little off on her timing and cues from our requests. We ordered water and cocktails and because none of us has eaten since lunch a round of appetizers were ordered immediately. Apps included oysters on the half shell, crab fritter and the mixed seafood Fritto Misto. All fresh and fine tasting. The drinks and appetizers seemed to take a little too much time to execute. We ordered entrees and once the apps arrived timing seemed to be running smoother. Pizzas, Georgia Trout with a side of farro and the Skirt Steak and with chimichurri sauce (with way too many pommes frites) were the entrees. Steak was voted by two of the party as the best dish at the table. I ordered the farm to table turnips and tops and they were delish! Great list of side options at Floatway and the food was balanced. Not overly garlic or salt which I appreciate. No time for dessert this visit but we will float back that way this spring to experience a warmer evening. Very Good to Excellent Experience.

Won't be back

By Christopher Q |

Floataway is an Atlanta institution operated by one of our best known restaurateur's that I've been meaning to get to, and we finally did. The food was decent, as it should be for the price you pay, but the service was, well, minimal to say it nicely. We visited with other couples whom we dine with frequently. First, I'm fine with being located in an old industrial area, but the place is so poorly signed that my wife and I looked for several minutes, once we parked. We finally found it by looking into windows, but then had trouble actually finding the unmarked door (covered with Christmas greenery, which may have been the problem, but every door along the wall was decorated just the same.) Once in, we waited only a few minutes for our table. Once shown to our table, it was 10 to 15 minutes before someone asked us if we'd like to make drink orders, another 10 or more minutes for the drinks to show up, and thus it went for most of the night. 10 minutes after our drinks showed up, a guy came out and offered each of us a single slice or bread and put one small ramekin of olive oil down, for a table of eight to share. I don't like hovering, fussy waiters, but being ignored in a restaurant that is not overly crowded (there were empty table when we walked in) is shameful. The food ranged from OK to pretty good. The chicken thighs, in a bowl with broth featuring sweet prune bits which balanced nicely with bitter vegetables had nice, crispy skin. My wife's trout, I thought bland, but she liked it pretty well. The fillet came with a smallish smear of pureed califlower. That was it. The food was not enough to bring us back by itself, when there are so many superior dining places in Atlanta, and the service was enough to keep us from ever bothering to come back.

Overall, a very good night out!

By Steve B |

I, my husband and two dear friends enjoyed dinner here on New Years Eve and a consensus was easily reached: awesome! Starters, entrees and desserts were exceptional. My $14 Maplebrook Burrata, Peach Mostarda starter was creamy and delicious and spread beautifully on the included Grilled Sourdough. My $18 Risotto with shitake mushrooms also was remarkably flavorful. We were seated in one of the cool booths with the slats so it had a very private feel. The only weakness in our entire evening was the lack of attentiveness from our server - she failed to give her name. We started with a bottle of champagne before dinner and then had a bottle of white wine with dinner. The bottles were placed away from the table and we occasionally sat with empty glasses waiting for our server to bring the hidden bottles. Despite that minor issue, our evening was a delight with good friends and delicious food and drink. We will happily return!

I keep coming back to this restaurant

By lenore c |

The food is clean and sourced from farms and vendors that care about quality and organics. Service is spot on. It is tucked away in an odd location but the restaurant is intimate and cozy.

Disappointing

By mommiedo |

I took my family to Floataway Cafe in anticipation to be blown away by the food. Unfortunately I was not impressed. The desserts were the best thing about the meal. Without going into detail about everything we ordered the food simply was on the blander side. The sauces did not pop. It was food I could make at home. The interior was special and our table was private which was very nice. The wine selection was very good. Their mixed drink selection was sparse. Our server started off great although a bit too wordy about the menu. He told us about every dish on the menu when maybe stressing two or three highlights would have been a bit more timely! I don't think I'll be returning to Floataway unfortunately but if you are looking for a simple meal without the high foodie snob expectations you may walk away happier than I.

Everything was excellent!

By Marcia B |

The waiter was terrific - friendly, helpful with suggestions, very thorough. The food choices were excellent and we had many excellent dishes to share - all vegetarian. Wine was great. The seating outdoors very pleasant.

Great good, great service

By Jim W |

Food was fantastic, great suggestions by David. Price was pleasant surprise, lower than comparable great places. Off the beaten path but great ambience, some small rooms which make it easier to have a conversation

great, delicious and relaxing

By Ronald W |

Dinner for four, everything was delicious, and the service was excellent. A few of the highlights were the goat cheese pizza, pasta and ice milk with olive oil and sea salt. The atmosphere is elegant and relaxing. Try the Moscow Mule if you want a cocktail.

warm toffee cake!

By kurokitty |

We came here for a weeknight dinner and enjoyed it. I'd been here two times in the past and although it took a few minutes to get our bearings and find the front door, we enjoyed what we saw once we entered the restaurant. The decor is modern and I liked that we did not feel crammed together with everyone else dining there. Although it was dark out, our table overlooked the pretty primitive Zonolite Park out back. I had the hanger steak, which was nicely seasoned and grilled. It came with a potato puree that I forgot it came with until I ate a little bit of my steak and a more than generous portion of fries. I also liked they had beer from the local Orpheus brewery. The wife had the loup de mer, which is a European seabass. It was nicely roasted. It had a decent amount of pin bones in it, so be wary if you are not used to it. Dessert was great -- like the title suggests, we loved the warm toffee cake. The pear spiced cake also was delightful, as were the portions of gelato served along with them. It made for an enjoyable evening and we likely will be back in the future.

Strange locale, but Exceptional

By BarkBrown |

You wouldn't expect a great restaurant in this locale, but the food and wine choices were exceptional and the service perfect. Worth a bit of a weird taxi trip. As good as anything I've had.

Creative and reliable

This restaurant continues the fine tradition of Anne Quatrano in the Atlanta area. Excellent food, good service.

Want to be highend

By Vtm R |

Settled in an industrial park with a view on a nature preserve. Interior is modern and tries to be upper level. Food for the quality and portion size is a little too expensive. Gnocchi are a little to firm on the inside and a little to slimy on the outside. Sauce with it was a little boring and missing some natural spices. Steak came just with fries and looked boring. Taste was ok, but not the best cut. Expected more from the setting and the pricing. Definitely not high-end in Atlanta, but ok for go there again to have something different.

Cool Space, Good Food

By SandBAtlanta |

Enjoyed my visit to Floataway last night, despite the service being off. The space is beautifully designed and decorated - love the warmth, the colors, the vibe. Our waiter confessed he was "slammed" which explained the slow service and order mistakes, I guess? I had the pan roasted duck with butternut squash risotto - it was very good. My friend had the veal spaghetti and meatballs, but was initially served seafood spaghetti ?? The manager told us to keep the seafood spaghetti and whipped up the veal spaghetti quickly. I wanted another glass of wine but the service was so slow ... it would have taken forever :( Overall it was pretty good, but with so many outstanding restaurants in Atlanta, you really have to be on your game to stay ahead of the competition.

Relaxed, healthy, elegance

By roadwarrior100 |

Housed in a warehouse area about 1/4 mile from Emory University, Floataway Cafe is a wonderful experience. French, Mediterranean and Italian are the menu themes. The selection varies daily. The seating environment is relaxed, though contemporary, and Floataway offers multiple alcoves and table settings, perfect for allowing dinner conversation to be heard. I enjoy taking clients and co-workers here, but it also is intimate enough for a relaxed date night. Only dinner served. No lunch. Closed Sundays and Mondays. Floataway is a bit of a challenge to find on the first trip, but once you are there parking is easy.

Hip Traditional Northern Italian Experience

By BernR |

First meal in the states after returning from a 2-week trip to Italy, France, Spain, and Santorini (GR). Found this quirky Italian restaurant in Atlanta that seemed unassuming with its industrial, hipster theme. I was with friends on this Friday night craving for Mediterranean fare. This is the usual hangover that I suffer through when returning from a memorable trip overseas. I started with Bells Porter, a nice Michigan brew before switching to a Tuscan rosé. I had the caponata for openers, quickly followed by a cold appetizer of delicious marinated roasted beets with avocado, pickled egg, goat cheese and pistachios. When and where I find squid ink dishes on the menu, I go for it. In this case, I enjoyed a plate of squid ink rigatoni w rock shrimp, young squid, octopus, mussels, san marzano tomatoes, & Calabrian chili. Molto bene! Magnifico! Loved the ambience, attention to detail, friendly staff, ease of access and parking, and a fine dining experience overall. Highly recommended. Will definitely come back when in town.

Pleasant meal with pleasant service

By David M |

A bit of challenge to find because it is off the normal path of restaurant rows. Once there, a very warm and attractive setting that is not stuffy. Staff pleasant and accommodating. Service was excellent with a significant amount of variety on the menu. Could easily order your individual meals, share small plates, or do a combination. Casarecce and ravioli were excellent as well as the octopus. The spring greens were nothing special. There is a good selection on the drink and wine menu, but we did not try any. Will be a go-to place when we return to Atlanta.

Interesting Location, Pleasant Dining Experience

By crazyhotelguy |

The location is a bit odd, kind of tucked away in an industrial area. The entrance is not exactly well defined, but once you are there, the dining room is very nicely decorated and seems to convey a bit of a modern/urban feel. I had the Pork Porterhouse. The entree was very tasty, though I felt the Gnocchi side was not quite as I had expected it to be. It was tasty nonetheless. The service was friendly and for the most part attentive. Overall a very nice dinner.

Tucked away gem

By CBAndrewB |

Located in industrial park that has a patio and a green shed, I recommend this hip restaurant. Interior mixes martini lounge with modern interiors, which has great light and privacy screens between tables. Excellent service and simple menu. As a vegetarian, I had choice of 4: spicy eggplant, gnocchi, fried okra, and marinated zucchini. Well worth a visit!

A special place for every occasion

By Cristian |

You can't be wrong with Floataway Cafe, Anne Quarantano is exceptional and the menu is always fresh and seasonal. Service is awesome, preparation state of the art and the taste... what to say... superb. Just... if you don't like garlick, let them know, Anne likes it... a lot... besides that you can order anything on the list or on the "specials" but... leave some space for Desserts, it's worth the sin...

Unexpected

By Catalina L |

When you reach the entrance the last thing you expect is this darling small, cozy restaurant. Waiters and food are both amazing. I like the fact that I can go every time Im arround Atlanta and the dished will change around a little bit. Great atmosphere, great food, I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking to celebrate something, anything.

spotty

By drjj55 |

We had excellent oysters and a crab fritter which was only cooked half way through, but tasted good. The swordfish was great, with a most unusual and delicious eggplant and other veggie mixture. The hanger steak was so heavily spiced that it was inedible by either of us. We were charged $5.00 to refill our glasses of lemonade. Not a repeater

Great evening

By R.. |

Our first visit to Floataway in a few years. I don't know why we've stayed away so long. Very good, professional service. Interesting menu and wine list. Everything we tried was excellent. We also love the atmosphere as it's quiet enough to have a conversation (something increasingly hard to find in Atlanta). We'll be going back soon.

Past it's prime

3 of 4 entrees stone cold, the 4th was just right, which means ... the kitchen can't coordinate itself. Server started off OK then abandoned us. Won't be going back again.

Romantic Birthday dinner

By Chuck H |

My wife and I share a birthday a couple days apart and go away for the weekend. We usually have a nice meal on one night. Floataway cafe' was the choice this time. WOW. They are tied into Star Provisions (Atlanta high end pervayor of FINE noshing goods), and if you have ever heard of or been to Star, then you know the level of food that can be picked up there. English stilton, Beluga cavier, Flur de Sel, etc. etc. REALLY top notch stuff. Anyway............. Dinner at Floataway was as special as we had expected. What we had: Apps----Fresh razor clams with pesto, and blue crab fritter. Main-----Duck breast atop lentels and seasonal veggies; hanger steak and pom frittes. Drinks---Pot of french pressed coffee; sweet tea. Dessert--Fresh mint panna cotta with candied orange peel and cocoa nibs. I'll attach some pictures, but I wish I could attach "taste-a-vision". $116 including tip. Well worth it.

Great food, but service/hospitality needs help

By Kay C |

I am a long-time customer who was a super-fan & diner while I lived in Atlanta and I always return when I am back in town. As usual, the food at Floataway Cafe is superb. And the decor & atmosphere is simply elegant and refreshing. However, the staff needs a refresher course in teamwork & hospitality. I was extremely shocked and dismayed that I waited at the 'hostess stand, for a good 5 minutes before anyone greeted me or even acknowledged my presence. Instead, 4 different servers walked near or past me without saying 'welcome -- someone will be with you momentarily'. It is not that they didn't know I was there...we made eye contact. But apparently it wasn't their job to be a 'greeter'. (It wasn't as if they were crowded & overly busy...6:45 for 7 pm reservation and about 1/3 of tables filled). When the hostess finally arrived, she was very smiley and upbeat -- she greeted us, however, no apology for wait. Later in the meal when I wanted / needed a spoon for my apple cobbler dessert the only person I could 'flag down' was my server...everyone else ignored my head twists and discreet 'excuse me' comments. It appears to me that the staff duties are very silo'd which is a shame. On a different note, the food is/was awesome! The Picolo Frito was better than ever, the Hanger steak was perfectly cooked & tasty and the frites mouthwatering. The apple cobbler was amazingly good. The wine was reasonably priced and my bottle of Cote d'Rhone very good. So I guess I will have to adjust my service expectations and just continue to go for the food, cuz it is always FANTASTIC!

Float the OTHER WAY

By lomnava |

Off the beaten path, and not worth it. After three visits this year, I'm practicing the three strikes rule. The hostess /manager waste cold, aloof and downright rude. Nary a smile was had by her or the waitstaff who were polite, but not giving off a particularly happy vibe. My seafood entree was not fresh, and the pasta rubbery-- quite a feat. My companion's meal was equally unsatisfying. Blackened cauliflower? That's a new one. Most amazing was that not a single person once came by to ask how our meal was or if we enjoyed ourselves. For the record, we did not. Too many other great venues in ATL to tolerate rudeness and mediocrity. Float ANOTHER way!

Very Nice Upscale Restaurant

By somewhereingeorgia |

There are so many things to like about Floataway Cafe. Their online reservation system is super easy to use. Free parking is available in a private lot. The commercial office complex can be confusing because there are so many doors and walkways, many of which have no signage. Thankfully, there is a Floataway sign so keep driving the different parking lots until you see it! The menu is limited compared with their other restaurants, but we did not have any problems finding good options. Most of the produce comes from the owners' farm outside Atlanta and you cannot get any fresher. Two of our ladies have food allergies and the kitchen made great efforts to accommodate them. Service was very good, friendly, and attentive. My table of 4 had 2 small dishes returned to the kitchen without any fuss and many apologies from the waitstaff. We couldn't have ask for a better experience and every person we came in contact with was very well trained in how to handle an 'oops' situation. We will return to try the winter menu. My group eats out often at high end restaurants and you need to know that compared with other high end restaurants the Floataway kitchen is very slow. That was not a problem for us (we were there 2 2/5 hours) but you need to be aware of this.

Nice dinner with friends

By Gene B |

Very good Italian food. We do not go out a lot as I am often disappointed with places being pricy and the food overrated often. This was very nice.

Third visit and won't be back

By SharonWS1982 |

Each time I have gone to this place I keep expecting better than what I get in terms of both food, value & service. Each time it has been more and more disappointing. Four of us were dining. I had the lamb shank which was probably the best entree of the 4. It was good but not fabulous. The other 3 entrees were just fair. The appetizers, chicken livers & calamari/shrimp/veggie tempura were also just fair. Dessert: nothing special. We ordered two for the table and so unmemorable that I can't recall what they were. Service was weird. I think our server was trying but kept rushing us and interrupting. I don't know what the hurry was as the place was half empty so we were not holding up others from taking a table in her section or otherwise. We joked that maybe they needed the plates back. The location seemed fun and funky the first time I was here, but this time it was just annoying. 3 strikes.....you're out!

Floataway Cafe, sinking experience .....

By davenid |

It had been a long time since I've been back to Floataway cafe. They've expanded, decor still the trendy, aluminum chairs with soft draperies dividing space, clever. Eating out is an experience and when you pay a good price you expect to have a good experience. Seating: we were seated at a two-persons table, small, far away from your partner sitting directly from you, so if you have little to converse with your company, that works; I, on the other hand often enjoy intimate dinner with my mate, this doesn't work. Service: server was pleasant and casual enough. Our first appetizer was the grilled octopus, it came in a small cast-iron bowl; whole tomatoes seemed to be from a can, octopus tasted like it was part boiled before finish on the grill; my first bite with all the ingredients together tasted like a mouthful of salt. After the appetizer, there was a looooong pause....then the helper came out with all the rest of what we ordered; a main course of the duck breast, and sides of the agnolatti and the very descriptive roasted sweet potato with rosemary and chili fakes; this is obvious that we are sharing everything, yet the helper simply flopped the sweet potato right in front of me and push his way around the table to make room for the other two dishes, we had rearrange everything in the middle and asked for two larger plates since they put the two little bread plate in front of us and guessed that what they expect us to eat with. Dishes: We waited for a long time for the dishes to come out and in between there no acknowledgement of what we need, drink or otherwise, sweet potato were dry and little of the taste described; agnolatti was probably the highlight but it was cool; duck was tasteless, cold and gamy. End of night: when the waiter came and ask how was everything, we said it was OK, there was no hint of needing to find out more if the patrons were satisfied or not, he was sheepish as if he already knew something was wrong; there were no effort in trying to ask if we care for dessert or coffee. Pathetic is what I thought. We are foodies and dine out often, seeking not just good food but good experience. Well, Floataway Cafe might sink so deep, we are not going to be back and no recommendation from us either.

Better than the parent restaurant

By Michael W |

I have eaten here for years--- since it opened. For a while, I thought this place had become a bit tired and trite. My recent visits (2x this summer) persuaded me that Floataway is back! The place has been stepped up in clean, NYC-styled decor and the food is a good as many top chef restaurants in SF. The wine list is limited but very good quality and great prices. One of my trips was with a group of a dozen and comments on everything on the menu were very positive. The location, decor and staff give this place a very edgy feel, but with topflight food. This is so much better than Bacchanalia!

faded glory?

By JimCGA |

After an absence of twenty years or more, I had the opportunity to dine at Floataway recently. It did not live up to my high expectations for this more informal member of the Bacchanalia family. We were able to dine al fresco on the deck outside the entry door. The setting is near perfect, a quiet haven not far removed from the noise and traffic of Atlanta. But the menu, food quality (with the exception of killer bread), and service don't measure up. The wine by the glass list is shockingly sparse for a restaurant of this quality. Disappointed, I resorted to bottled beer. My salad, described as romaine, anchovy, and something else, consisted entirely of romaine leaves overladen with a bland white dressing, entirely devoid of both anchovy and anchovy flavor. The lamb shank I was served was generous, falling-off-the-bone tender, but had no discernible lamb flavor - it tasted like nondescript beef. Finally, service was friendly but slow and amateurish. I expect far more from Floataway, based on past experience (however distant), reputation, and pedigree. This meal was disappointing.

Almost but then again NOT

By James W |

This restaurant has been around for quite awhile and the owners have several top establishments in Atlanta. BUT.....let's look at Floataway. Although finding the restaurant and which door to enter is a bit convoluted the actually restaurant is attractive. Sort of high end IKEA, swedish. However, unless the temperature is above 50 the restaurant seves you a chill at nearly every table. Service is poor (you have to ask for your wine glass to be refilled by the bottle you bouoght. No one watches to see empty glasses) and the meals are brought out by a couple of kitchen stained help. The heavier set woman at the door is unfriendly. Food - The salad came in giant size lettuce leaves (why don't they tear the lettuce) and old old leaves. Nothing speaks to a beautiful salad. The croutons seem to be supermarket quality. The best thing on the menu was the French Fries which were not only lovely and for once properly salted.

Great Expectations-Poor Results

By Dealmaker |

Prior to arrival we had great expectations for a great meal as the owners have a great reputation. The server Wes was either brand new or was having a few "magical moments". He got drink orders messed up, brought white wine glasses instead of red wine glasses for red wine. We could hardly hear Wes as he almost spoke in a whisper. The white wine by the glass for 2 of our guests was bad and the list by the glass was disappointing. The starters both hot and cold were very good. The main courses were disappointing.2 of us had steak & frites and the steak had no flavor.Smokey crust with bland meat. Hot toffee pudding for desert was very good. Would we return, probably not! Hopefully ownership will read this review

A Special Place.

By J H |

Wow. We have been to Floataway several times and always liked it but the new chef has it hitting on all cylinders! We went for my wife's birthday and the worst part of the night was trying to decide which dishes we would have and which we would have to save for another night. We loved the bay scallops, frito misto, and duck! All were incredible. I love the idea of using the best and freshest ingredients and letting them stand on thier own. Industrial (brickworks kind of thing) setting is set off nicely with christmas lights, chiffon drapes, etc. Great spot. We may have to become regulars.

Nice romantic restaurant

Food is always very good, restaurant has quiet romantic atmosphere, you don't get bothered by other people's conversation like most other restaurant. I enjoyed it every time I go.

Nice food, a bit hard to find

By DeacSteve |

We've dined at Floataway three times and the food and service are consistently good. Not a top tier place, yet, but really good. They have a nice menu and good wine list. The only drawback is location. Going there you will wonder where the heck you are heading. When you see the gun range, keep going. It's worth the effort to find!

Still an Old Faithful

By Beachbilly |

I have been visiting Atlanta and Floataway for over ten years. Our most recent visit confirmed that it is still turning out a sophisticated food and dining experience in its uniquely stylish setting. Close to Emory, CDC and mid-town, its out of the way warehouse setting sets the tone for for this LA-east dining experience.

Piccolo Frito & Pommes Frites: it doesn't get any better

By Kay C |

OMG--the Piccolo Fritto was ginormous. Fortunately it was split between 2 people. The calamari and the shrimp were perfectly cooked in a light tempura-like batter. The accompanying fried rings of thin sliced onion and quarter slices of green tomato were a great counterpoint. The hanger steak was delicious as always. But the Pommes Frites were OUTSTANDING!!! Again, am very glad I split the entree as I waddled out happy and sated.

Great

By Jim M |

A very good place for dinner. Wonderful service and very good cocktails. I loved the grilled octopus. Great location and a wonderful patio.

Yummo!

By KBenefield |

Ate here for the first time on NYE and I was super impressed. In addition to the amazing food and drinks, the atmosphere and service were excellent as well. We had the burrata and pommes frites to share among the table (2 couples). I'm a vegetarian, so I opted for the ricotta gnocchi - it was delicious! My husband had the porterhouse pork chop and said it was the best pork chop he'd ever had. Although it was NYE and they had balloons, noisemakers, etc., they maintained a sophisticated atmosphere. I would absolutely recommend it and will be going back.

Good, could be better

First, anyone going in the next few weeks should check with the Resturant to see if the air conditioning is up and running. It is uncomfortable to sit inside in August without AC. The staff is friendly but should be more polished for the price point. I have never seen a server put the cork back into an expensive bottle of wine, never even thought of decanting. Food was good so this should have been a much better score but for this price everything should work much better.

Best cheeses ever.

Tasty, upper end style restaurant

By DM_1278 |

This is a quaint restaurant near a nature trail, in an industrial looking area. It is tucked away, and a little difficult to locate, but the food is very tasty. It is an upper scale restaurant. Me and my friend both had the hanger steak which was tasty, and. There are a lot of wine choices and good deserts as well. If in the area and looking for a nice restaurant, this is a place to check out.

Hidden Treasure

I loved this restaurant, the décor and atmosphere was lovely. The staff were friendly and the food was amazing, the desserts are particularly good, certainly one to recommend

Superb!!

By bullstar0001 |

It took us 30 min to get there but totally worth it. Once we got there we must we where at the wrong place because there is nothing around and it looks like a warehouse building but just follow the signs and you'll get to a small door with a very small sign. Kind like trying to keep it like a secrete place. Restaurant very nice minimalist and clean. The food amazing from the bread , to the veggies and to the hangar and pork steaks were just superb and the best part not too pricey. The Only problem of the evening was ate and drank too much. Leave space for the sampler desserts.

Very modern and the food...

Very modern and the food is fantastic. Its hidden away around Sage Hill off Briarcliff Rd...

More pros than cons, but I'm not going back anytime soon

By Catwoman62 |

I had dinner at Floataway last night with a friend - it was my first visit, but he has been several times. Bottom line - I will still recommend it, but won't be in any rush to go back. As others have said, the location is a bit hard to find, but the space inside is nicely decorated, if a bit sparse. The hard metal chairs don't add any warmth. The dining area was divided into 'rooms' with fabric draperies, which was cozy. There were four tables in our area. The hostess was welcoming and cordial. Our server was hesitant, and seemed inexperienced. We started with two appetizers - the grilled chicken livers with red onion jam on grilled sourdough, and warm cheese gourgeres. The livers were a wonderful dish - the livers were bursting with flavor and the bright red slivers of onion added flavor, and texture, especially when combined with the toasted bread. The cheese gourgeres were not impressive. Six leaden bundles of pastry filled with a heavy, gooey blue cheese filling was not what I was expecting. They were nicely plated, however (in fact, all the food was beautifully presented). My dining companion had ordered the "elijay apple, endive, radicchio, candied walnuts, montgomery's cloth bound cheddar" salad, which unfortunately arrived moments after our appetizers, so we felt a bit rushed. For our entrees, we both ordered the wood grilled hanger steak with pommes frites. The words were barely out of my mouth when the waiter said "we recommend that be cooked medium rare. Did you have any other ideas?" I looked back at him and said "as a matter of fact, I do. I typically like my steak well done. How does your kitchen handle requests for well done?" and his response was "well, then we'll be bringing you a very tough piece of meat" in a tone which I thought was unnecessarily snotty. I looked at my friend and the waiter said "did you want to rethink your order?" and I said 'yes'. I ended up ordering the steak, but done medium well, which I'm perfectly happy to do with a nice piece of steak. It arrived on a platter with an extremely generous order of pommes frites (fries) that were delightfully crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, a little on the salty side, but definitely some of the best fries I've ever had. Unfortunately, the kitchen's love of salt carried over to the steak. It had a nice crust on the outside but was bright red on the inside, and so salty I could barely eat it.(but hey, it was tender!) I had a few bites and pushed it aside. I ended up taking home the leftovers in hopes that I can salvage it - we'll see. We ordered a pinot noir from Willamette Valley for dinner which was very nice. We split a chocolate pecan tart with frangelico cream for dessert. I didn't taste any frangelico in the cream. The tart was mostly crust and nuts - not much substance to it. In retrospect, I wish I had ordered the toffee cake, which has received good reviews on this site. For $160 before tip for the two of us, and considering that this is a Star Provisions property, I just expected better. All in all, I'd have to say: pros: chicken livers, pommes frites, wine list, food presentation cons: rushed, inexperienced service, way too much salt on the food

Fumbled start, but great finish, amazing food and service

By DPUSA |

We had a couples dinner here today and when we first got there we were shown to a table which was in the bar. We 'politely' refused and indicated we do not consider that an actual table. We waiting about 10 minutes for another one and from there onwards our experience was great. We came a few years ago and thought it was 'ok' but our food was great... The hanger steak was juicy and very well seasoned albeit a little more medium than medium rare but had an amazing char on it. Having just had dinner at bacchanalia a few weeks ago, I think the good here albeit different was just as good!

Serene decor complimented by great food!

By Lazonia |

Three of us went to dinner at Floataway tonight - my first visit, and it was not a disappointment. I had the arugula salad with shaved Parmesan and a light lemon dressing which was a perfect starter. My main course was the corn risotto which was so good - rich and a wonderful corn flavor. Others at the table shared the fig and prosciutto pizza. Now this may sound weird, but it was terrific and not sweet. One of those sharing is a vegetarian, and they just left off the prosciutto on that half. Delicious. Normall we wouldn't have desser but the choices looked too good. Our extremely helpful server recommended the toffee pudding and she was so right - it was fabulous. We also tried the peach tart and the blueberry bread pudding. Neither of these two were too sweet which is my preference, but the toffee is killer good so give it a try. Overall, great food in a lovely setting!

Excellent food from a great chef

By Dean-ATL-USA |

We entertained at Floataway after a couple years gap and ended up saying "why did we wait so long". Two of four ordered gnocchi with duck ragu and it was ethereal. The frito misto app was almost an entre and the best fried food I've had in a long time. Rice pudding and pear tart for dessert were quite special. Because the menu changes daily you may not see these dishes. Our Nebbiolo wine was excellent. The wine list is just the right length with fair prices. Remember this is fine dining. Our service was not as professional as I recall from prior visits but certainly good nonetheless.

Floataway Keeps Getting Better!

By Kay C |

I have been going to Floataway since they opened. When I lived in Atlanta, this was my neighborhood hangout...sort of like Cheers, but with GREAT food! This restaurant & its food has NOT disappointed me yet. I have a huge problem ordering something new. I almost always get my 2 favorite menu items -- Piccolo Frito & Hanger Steak with Frites. I don't know if their portion sizes have gotten bigger OR my stomach has gotten smaller as I have aged, but I could barely finish my shared meal...but I did cuz it was sooooo good! Back in the day, the restaurant was "noisy"...especially in the back banquette area. But the addition of trellis-barriers with curtains are a huge help. The wait staff is very attentive and responsive to requests (I snagged the recipe for the hanger steak...gotta try making it when I am home in AR!).

Great — worth seeking out (a bit out of the way).

By EloiseMac524 |

Floataway Café is owned/managed by Star Provisions, which also owns Bacchanalia, one of the top restaurants in Atlanta. Floataway is more affordable and casual, but nonetheless high quality in terms of their food and service. Their menu describes their offerings as featuring “fresh seasonal cuisine created with country French, Mediterranean and Italian influences” and I’d call that accurate. There are pasta and pizza dishes (and ½ orders can be ordered of the pasta, ‘though the menu doesn’t state that — our waitress let us know). There are many “first” or appetizer choices, along with a variety of sides; lots of options for vegetarians, which is a plus.

Excellent dining in comfortable room

By oceanquest33 |

Enjoyed a nice dinner with several friends. Several Dining Seating options. We opted for semi-private enclosed area for very comfortable eating and conversation. Interesting Menu but limited options. Our Salmon and Chicken was excellent

Excellent Service

By Opernbesucherin |

Service, presentation, and atmosphere all make for a great evening with friends. But don't go hungry, small portions and all à la carte. Good news, the food is tasty and beautifully presented.

Hip place but food is so heavy

By Naomi S |

Great place. Trendy, great vib. Food is really heavy. Maybe it is just the winter menu? Great atmosphere and decor. Food is very good. Service a little slow. Food is a little pricey since you pay $6 for bread and have to buy vegetables. Heck -give me a piece of bread for free and a few string beans and I am happy.

Elegant but down-to-earth

Fresh farm to table gorgeous food, inventive and delectable and worth going out of your way. If you are considering Floataway, just go!

Not what it used to be...

By Adi_ATL |

I love Anne Quatrano's Star Provisions group of restaurants. Dinner at the Quinones Room (Bacchanalia) a few years back was one of my top dinner experiences. But something is going on with her restaurants. (Abbatoir just closed, for example)... At Floataway Cafe, quality and service used to be fantastic. I've dined hear several times, but I'm pretty sure last time was my last. First, the service: 30 mins wait even with reservations... while others were walking in and seated right away... not a very efficient system from what I observed. And the wait staff... "cold", unprofessional, and a bit too casual for my taste [or maybe it was just our waitress]. At some point, she was talking to the guests seated next to our table, but her back was turned to our table and her "bottom" was just a few inches from my food. Clearly not a great sense of "space" The food: quite frankly, I see very little changes on the menu from visit to visit. It's quite stale and needs a total overhaul. My wife's trout was pretty bland (she asked for some sauce to spice it up a bit). There are only 5-6 entrees on the menu, and at least 1 was not available. So not much choice either... Oh, and do you have to mention "Summerland Farm" for every vegetable included? We get it, you grow your own stuff. That's great! Drinks: Wine list is ok, and quite extensive... but if you just want a glass or two, the choices are VERY limited. Not ONE Riesling by the glass, for example... Overall, this was a pretty disappointing experience, and didn't give it one star because I know this place is capable of better. Just needs better management and a good dose of menu overhaul. I just hope it doesn't follow in Abbatoir's footsteps (it might, if things continue down this path)

Find your way to the Floataway

By Keith B |

The Floataway is a nicer and pricier restaurant than seems right on this street of warehouses and businesses. But, once inside, the place has a modern and streamlined look and feels quite classy. The menu changes regularly. We particularly enjoyed our grilled octopus appetizer. Also delicious were the pork tenderloin and the loup de mer entrees. And the toffee cake was a great finish. Don’t be fooled by the neighborhood. Find your way to the Floataway.

Birthday Dinner

By krissylindsay88 |

We went on the recommendation of a friend and the food did not disappoint. We actually purchased a Groupon and had no issues using them. The food was great, and the toffee pudding was WONDERFUL....but the service is super slow. And not because our waiter was not great, she just couldn't handle all the tables alone . She literally ran the entire time we were there ( which was 3 hours).

A favorite neighborhood gem

By SueBr17 |

Good "veggie plate", love the Brussels sprouts and the succotash when on menu. Pizza and pastas good.

Food is a 5 service a2...

By Gerry N |

Found the restaurant lacks the polish one would expect for the sophistication of the menu. Dined with another couple who love the food here and I agree food was delicious but the service was lack luster and really quit poor. We started with the Crab Fritter and enjoyed it immensely also there cocktail menu is very interesting try something different from there you will enjoy it. Another in the party had the Prosciutto di Parma and melon and was pleased with the dish. For entrees we had the Gnocchi with pork ragu, Triangoli of corn and ricotta, Roasted green circle Chicken and the Roasted Trout . We finished with excellent desserts the Gateau Victoire being the favorite. So I would say go for the food be ready for the lack of service.

I'll be back!

By pjmdvm |

We brought an out of town friend here for dinner. Did reservations on their website. The bread was lovely, and the crab cakes were the best I have ever had. It was mostly crab with a bit of breading on the outside. Probably could have eaten 3 of these with a veggie for a meal. Beets were good. We had the steak, salmon and eggplant. Eggplant was a bit sweet, but others were great. Great bottle of wine. The surprise was their ice milk that is served with 3 flavors. The three of us all though that the olive oil with salt flavor was absolutely amazing. I'd go back just for that. This restaurant was not inexpensive, but worth it for a nice meal.

Maybe another visit, maybe not

By ECH56 |

My wife and I had a reservation at 8pm. When we arrived we got a table right away. The server was attentive and very nice. When we went to order we were told that two entrees were not available. The menu is not huge so 2 items is quite a lot and both were seafood - Scallops and Turbot. The entrees that we did order were good. My entree came with pasta with was cooked perfectly. It was good. We had a side of Collard greens and it was smoked. It was really really really smoked. For desert we had the sampler which was good. The wine list is actually good and not expensive. We had an Italian wine for a bit over $30 which was excellent. There are a lot of restaurants in Atlanta. This one is good and may be worth a visit.

Best outdoor dining in Atlanta

By pattylundy |

Although the outdoor seating area is not large, it is delightful. This tucked-away spot offers refuge from the noisy urban hustle, and dogs are allowed to join owners on the patio. Indoor dining also rocks. Food, wine list, and servers have all been top-notch the last two times we visited.

Always tasty and comfortable!

By BSSGSS |

We have been to Floataway several times. It is always delicious. The food has a regional flavor with local, fresh ingredients. The wine list is carefully selected with affordable choices. The setting is comfortable even though it is located in what appears to be an old warehouse. This is a particularly convenient choice when visiting Emory University.

Still Excellent

By Judgefoodie |

My husband and I have been dining at Floataway since it first opened. We have always enjoyed it but the allure of all the new dining opportunities in town caused us to neglect this solid dining venue. We returned a few days ago and we were very glad we did. It was excellent. We sat in the bar in a cozy corner and the bartender/waiter could not have been more accommodating. The chicken liver pate with cherries was perfect. Delectable. Just beware--four people could happily enjoy this generous portion. As it was, my husband and I could not resist the very last taste. I then had the roast chicken and there was no problem substituting the Brussels sprouts for the bread salad. The sprouts were perfection as was the delectable chicken. My husband had the casarecce with veal meatballs which he reported were incredibly delicious. We drank wines by the glass--very reasonable. But the wine list includes many interesting affordable bottles. No room for dessert after all that pate. Next time I will be sure to plan better as the dessert menu was enticing. An all round excellent meal in very comfortable surroundings with excellent service. This is an Atlanta restaurant with real staying power.

Dinner and interview

By mdmamaof4 |

I went to Floataway cafe on a recommendation from a colleague. It is located in what appears to be repurposed warehouse. It's a little out of the way but had ample and free parking. Finding the entrance is a little tricky but well worth it. We had the mini crab cake for a starter... Delicious. I had the porterhouse porkchop which was also delicious. The winner was the warm toffee cake desert oh my!! Service staff friendly and unobtrusive. Overall a delightful experience. I will go back to experience the wine list

Excellent food, interesting setting

By Evie_Parker |

We had a big family dinner here and the food and the service were excellent. The lentil appetizer, the chicken liver appetizer, and the asparagus risotto were delicious. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding and butterscotch pudding, also delicious. The restaurant is divided up into several rooms, also very nicely decorated and even though there were a fair number of people there it wasn't too loud.

Favorite place to eat

By Barnesms |

I have eaten at Floataway and just realized that I have not done a review, and it is one of my favorite places to eat. The location of Floataway is interesting, as you wind your way past quasi industrial buildings you wonder where you are going, it is worth the trip though. The ambiance is comfortable industrial, it has a nice small setting, a comfortable bar area, and in summer a couple of outdoor tables to enjoy the summer in Atlanta. Where it shines is their food. Always fresh, well prepared, different yet standard. You need to try whatever hits your fancy. Some good ones, the pizzas are great, add the meat balls to them and they get real good, recommend them as an appetizer. The main courses are equally great, totally recommend the hanger steak and fries. The vegetables to accompany the meals are seasonal and cooked just right. The desert options, call your name and are worth the indulgence. It's a place for a formal group dinner or a very casual lighter fare. Worth a try and perhaps can become one of your favorites as well.

Hidden gem

By sweetapplej |

And I do mean hidden, but don't give up. It is very lovely. A friend and I went for Christmas Eve and it was lovely.

Outstanding Italian cuisine in a surprising setting

By DrJerryLosAngeles_CA |

I had one of the most delicious Italian meals I have ever had. Someone in Atlanta had the bright idea to convert some old warehouses into offices and restaurants. Nestled in the rear is Floataway Cafe. If you love high-quality Italian (northern mostly), do yourself a favor and go to this place. I had veal -- which I usually avoid for humanitarian reasons -- meatballs with casarecce, a kind of rustic pasta, in marinara sauce. Exceptional. Then a very moist and rich chocolate cake for dessert (can't recall the name on the menu). Have your cardiologist on speed-dial and indulge!

Excellent service and food

By DeacSteve |

Driving to the Floataway Cafe you will wonder if you are lost. It is down a semi industrial road. Don't turn around, you'll be sorry. I've dined there twice and both times the food was excellent, presentation great and the service was prompt, casual and friendly. My dining companion had the hanger steak and pronounced it super. I had the trout and it too was great. The deserts were also good, try one.

Upscale in-town dining in a slightly offbeat location

By Jim W. |

I had looked at this place in the past but had always been too late to score a reservation. We decided to attend a concert at Emory University on a Saturday evening and I checked relatively early in the day on Saturday. Surprisingly, they had reservations available, so I booked a table at 6:00 p.m. (the 5:30 opening slots were gone). We arrived about 15 minutes early. The restaurant is located on a side road near Sage Hill plaza, but across Briarcliff. I had passed the entrance to the road many times heading towards Virginia Highland, but had never been down it before. It has mix of shops and light industrial / warehouse type businesses. We located the set of buildings with the restaurant's address and saw a sign. You park out front in a large lot and then walk back into the complex in a sort of breezeway. The restaurant is at the back and faces a creek that runs along the rear. We were seated promptly. It seemed odd that, though the early reservations had been taken, there were only one or two tables occupied. While we dined, the place started to fill up but there were still tables available as we left. So if you just stop by, even without a reservation, maybe you can get a table...? Our server was good and checked back semi-regularly without being intrusive. The menu had a decent variety with several options I'd like to have tried. I went with a pasta dish that was pretty good. My wife went with a chicken or fish dish; I can't recall. We split a salad which was fresh with interesting ingredients. Their complimentary bread was also tasty. We did not get dessert. Prices were in line with upscale dining in-town. The restrooms were a bit of an oddity. You had to exit the opposite side of the restaurant from where you'd entered, walk across and up another breezeway, and enter the next building to access them. It wasn't a major inconvenience, but if it were raining heavily, it could be a problem. I'd consider dining here again.

Average

By Victor M |

Met friends out for dinner last night. Restaurant was not very busy, still service was painfully slow. We ordered Calamari, Margherita Pizza and Prosciutto for the table. Calamri was wonderful, the rest, mediocre. I ordered the Bronzino, others ordered chicken or pasta. While well-prepared, all were bland and un-memorable. The sourdough bread was by far, the most inspired thing on our table. Maybe next time....

Celebratory Dinner

By Diane R |

In Atlanta with family and researched places to have dinner, this looked interesting. Apparently we didn't read enough reviews before we went. My husband just kept repeating "this is awful" throughout the second half of meal. He is more critical, but it is overpriced, limited wine by the glass selection, limited entree selection and we experienced very poor service.

Perfect Place for a Birthday Dinner

By Carolyn P |

We went on Saturday night for a Family Birthday party. I thought the service and the food were impeccable. The Hanger Steak and pomme frittes are a must have! We sat in the private room which was fabulous. I can't wait to go back again soon!

Our first choice for special occasions

By Buzmanlanta |

Our favorite Atlanta restaurant. Little sibling to acclaimed Bacchanalia, but less formal, less expensive. Artistic re-purposing of former warehouse-type of building, well done and so interesting. The food is an A+ every time we go, and wait staff are so spot-on that you would think they are part-owners. Most delicious meat I have put in my mouth in my 60+ year lifetime was not beef but a Floataway Cafe tuna steak, with spinach sauteed in lemon butter. As my adult son said, who also ordered it, "I don't want this to be over." -- Pretty much sums up the restaurant. Kudos, Floataway!

A favorite.

By Bill R |

We used to come her frequently but after the last chef change we found to menu to be boring. Last night we decided to give it another try and I'm glad we did. We both had a pasta dish. I had a dish of tomatoes, spicy pepper and seafood that was outstanding. The seafood was perfectly cooked as was the pasta and the sauce had exactly the right amount of heat. My wife had the gnocchi in duck ragu which I tasted and the gnocchi were feather light and the ragu was very flavorful and rich. I had the warm toffee cake for desert and it was as good as it always was. They have an extensive wine list that seems go be very fairly priced.

The Food is the Star

By rfreeman2015 |

I dined at Floataway Café for the first time in many years. I remembered Floataway Café as a French restaurant, but the current menu is continental with an Italian accent. Moreover, the space had been totally redone, and is tasteful and warm. One thing that had not changed is the quality of the food, which was excellent. I had the Loup de Mer, and it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Service was on the slow side. Our server had an aura of inexperience. In fact, he needed to consult the kitchen when I asked him to confirm that Loup de Mer was sea bass. He did have obvious talent and potential, and was cordial. Floataway Café seems to keep a low profile in the Atlanta dining scene. But it’s a great spot for fine food and relaxing ambiance.

Great menu, food, service and atmosphere

By Seattlekat1 |

Save room for dessert if you can. I had the gnocchi with meatballs--so delicious I wanted to lick my plate clean. The service was attentive but not overbearing. The price was very reasonable. I'll be back.

Lovely.

By drdanielmacdonald |

Ate here with a Groupon deal. The food was great as was the settled environment. Britney looked after us well. The steak main was just the best. One to return to.

Bar meal, also good.

By Barnesms |

Sat at the bar and still had a great meal. They have surprisingly comfortable metal bar chairs. Had dinner with my wife. Arugula salad, great with light dressing and Parmesan. She had beet salad, great beets. And we shared a margherita(sp.) pizza with veal meat balls. All great. 5 glasses of wine between us. $92. Worth every penny.

Great for any and all Celebrations!

By ChlOe55_10 |

I husband and I love the Floataway Cafe. We love the farm-to -table menu, the decor, and the off the beaten path location. It's in an old mattress factory that now has offices for artistic endeavors. At times reservations are needed a good 3 weeks ahead. They serve the food at just the right temperatures. Pale green-blue interior is dreamy. We went for our 38th wedding anniversary in August and enjoyed the occasion very much. Would recommend. Same owners as Bacchanalia but quieter and and more intimate.

Forgot how good this restaurant is!

By pennyhank |

We hadn't been to Floataway in a few years, but a recent Groupon enticed us back -- and we were delighted from beginning to end. The food was delicious, prices fair, service excellent and these four foodies left totally satisfied. If you haven't been for awhile, go back. If you haven't ever been, do yourself a favor and try it.

Dependable

By Richard M |

We have been to Floataway many times. The menu varies and there is always a lot of choice. IT's a nice atmosphere usually (if there's a large loud party the noise level can be quite high- if you want quiet ask to be seated in the dining room off to the left as you enter- it's a totally separate room and looks like a different place). The food always ranges from good to excellent. My wife had bass which was outstanding. I had pasta with veal meatballs which were a little chewy. The desserts are usually great- butterscotch pudding is my favorite.

Best Dessert Ever - the table ordered two more!

By juliap450 |

Wonderful dinner, 9 people, waiter was excellent and attentive. Food was perfect. We ordered two dessert samplers, and the toffee pudding with caramel sauce was so good, we ordered two more. It is a beautiful thing to watch grown men licking the plate (well almost, running their fingers through the last drops of caramel and licking their finges).

Great place for a Christmas Eve dinner

By BillC612 |

Our family tradition is to go out together for a nice dinner on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately this year the restaurant we had visited for many years closed. I picked Floataway cafe as our new choice and was not disappointed. All the items were we tried were wonderful, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was elegant without being overly formal.

Dinner Celebration

By Kim O |

Stopped for dinner to celebrate my son's completion of his PHD program. Set in a office complex that belies its ambiance as a restaurant. Menu leans French but other options available. Waiter very attentive and explain menu and special options. Leisurely pace to dinner allowed us to share the moment with our son and daughter in law. A little hard to locate so you have to make the effort to get there.

Nice But Uneven

By riceland |

The casual vibe and relax feel prepares you for a nice meal. Dinner was indeed nice; but uneven and at the end of night one wonders if it was worth it. The highs were the wine list, octopus, pork porterhouse (outstanding). The lows were the veggies served at room temperature and boring, the trout and bass being boring, the desserts just not interesting or tasty. Service was good but spotty kinda like the meal. Bottom line for the price point there are many better choices in Atlanta and it appears many other people agree as the resturant was not full on a Saturday night.

Very Special

By Wesstone |

Floataway is housed in a former door manufacturing facility in a urban neighborhood in Atlanta near Emory University. The food is of the very highest quality in product and preparation. the restaurant is set up to provide a pleasant dining experience where table are NOT crammed together. The bar is a great place to gather or have dinner. a very different dining experience of the highest quality.

Fabulous

Cool place hidden away, but what an amazing meal. It overlooks a beautiful area that feels far from the city. Service was amazing as well.

An Out of the Way Restaurant Worth Finding

By AtlantaRes |

Floataway Cafe is hidden in the back of a building on a side street not far from Emory University, and yet not close to Downtown, Midtown or Buckhead. It is worth going off the well traveled restaurant trails to experience. The menu is creative, food delicious, service excellent, and prices are reasonable. A great dining experience @ $$ prices.

Great Food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere

By Lanie S |

It is well worth your time to find this established Atlanta restaurant located off the beaten track. The menu is varied and beautifully prepared American, the bar and wine list are good, the service is excellent. Prices are reasonable for an upscale establishment and diners are not rushed, so this is an excellent place for friends to meet for dinner.

Why have I not been here before

By CUbeMan |

I'm lamenting the unfulfilled years that I've missed not coming to Floataway. Everything from the interiors' the food, and the service was terrific. It's out of the way in a former manufacturing district, but I think that made it even more interesting. Apps were the clams in a delicious broth and dinner was a shared pizza. I have nothing negative to say because it was truly a delight and surprise. I'll be back soon!

Unique setting for a outstanding meal!

By Karen B |

Located in a somewhat industrial area, the restaurant overlooks a beautiful green area. The menu features creative approaches to southern dishes. We began with oysters and salads. The bread served was very good. I enjoyed the octopus appetizer for my entree and my husband had the lamb shank. Both were very good, but the lamb shank was finger-licking wonderful! Peach cobbler was the perfect dessert. Our server was Anna and she was pleasant and attentive. We enjoyed our dinner and encourage others to visit.

Unpretentious and delightful dining!

By AtlKate |

We were curious to try it knowing it was the same owners as Bacchanalia (but without the $85 course dinner) and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's located in an industrial building, and once you're inside the restaurant it's divided into 3 areas. We sat at the bar area, in a cool looking and no uncomfortable high backed sofa with a small table. The decor reminded me of an Anthropologie store, boho-retro-cozy-cool. The crabfritter was good and you could taste the crab. The grilled octopus in a bed of chickpeas has some surprisingly good smoked tomatoes hidden within and the octopus itself is cooked to perfection and has no chewy aftertaste at all. Also had the padron peppers, just as good as the ones we've had in their native Spain. Had the black spaghetti (homemade with squid ink) and plump and wonderful shrimp. Finished off with the toffee pudding - so good we got a second one. Our server was very attentive and overall we very much enjoyed our dinner. Can't wait to go back and try the pizza - and have the toffee pudding again!

I'm a believer. Anne Q is the most considerate and forthcoming chef in Atlanta. While big brother Bacchanalia is the best restaurant in the city, Floataway is the Most Valuable Restaurant (MVR). The new expanded space took a cramped, paranoid atmosphere and re-invented the restaurant into an urban spa setting. The food remains the same, though: unpretentious mastery. The menu is a hybrid of Italian-American and California. I love Kevin Rathbun, but Annie is the best.

Consistently Excellent

By R.. |

Since rediscovering Floataway in 2016 it has become one of our local favorites. It is one of the very few places we go in Atlanta that has consistently excellent food and service. We also love the fact that the dining room on the left side of the restaurant is quiet enough for normal conversation. Floataway, keep doing what you're doing!

Ask for Sarah or Ray!

We wanted to have dinner here, however they were booked by the time we made reservations. So, we went by for drinks and dessert. Awesome menu for dinner - will definitely go back! We tried the sorbet and gluten free chocolate torte - YUM!!!!! Both were divine! Service excellent, awesome atmosphere! Off the beaten path and worth the time to find!

Local treasure

By Itravelforfood |

The staff is incredible, particularly the manager - she knows her stuff. Right-sized and right- priced wine list has great choices for all occasions. The veal and ricotta meatballs are a treat year- round. The other seasonal choices are always outstanding (like the tempura-battered fried okra). Can be noisy or vibrant, depending on your perspective. Not a spot for families; geared towards adults enjoying themselves but not aiming to break the bank.

Great Restaurant

By androsvt |

My wife and I had dinner on the patio on a beautiful quiet evening. The food was excellent. I particularly recommend the crab fritter. It is really a round crab cake and one of the best I have ever had. Our entrees and dessert was also excellent. They have a good wine list and the service was excellent.

Amazing Food Horrible Service

By swest862 |

My husband and I recently went to Floataway Cafe on a Saturday night. We sat for a good 20 minutes before we even had a waiter come to our table. He brought us water then and maybe refilled our, probably 6 oz glasses, once in the entire meal. We ordered drinks, it was another at least 20 minutes for those to come out and forget seeing our waiter enough to get a second round. We got the cheese board appetizer, the waiter did not know what was on it. Our entrees were very good, but the service was so bad that even though we originally planned on getting dessert, we just didn't feel that it would be worth the wait and went elsewhere for dessert. It is a pretty location and great food, so we will PROBABLY give it another chance, but we had high hopes and were very disappointed.

Unique place worth a visit!

By Jerseygirl3161 |

We give five stars to the Loup De Mer. The octopus was 6 stars! Tomato orrechiete had a great sauce but the rest of the dish was not as flavorful. Carpaccio was a 5. Ambience a 4.5. Foccacia disappointing because we thought the olives were baked in. The only thing keeping this review from a 5 is the chairs. Very uncomfortable. The sear pillow was lush but the outside chairs used inside made for uncomfortable dining. I would encourage the staff to sit in them for two hours. The look is beautiful and comfy if for outside cocktails. But the club chair back didn't work for me. Perhaps a pillow would help! Loved the decor.

So wonderful I want to tell everyone!

By A R |

What a pleasant surprise the Foataway cafe was! We drove into this area that had old warehouses and small buildings. Definitely not your typical restaurant area. We knew it was an artsy area as we walked by a movie studio and art business to get to the restaurant itself. we ate outside in the area that had been part of a warehouse but now only had the beams left. The food was so tastey! My started was roasted beets, goat cheese and avocado. What a heavenly combination. My ravioli dinner was filled with a chestnut flavor cream topped with a wonderful white sauce, apples and celery. The portions were just right too! I told my husband that this was the best place he'd ever selected for dinner!

Terrible, terrible service. A shame

By ATLSchweers |

My wife took me here last night for my birthday. We had heard great things for years but hadn't been. She knows i love cocktails so we ordered two when we sat down. I can't tell you how they were because they never came. We waited. Then we ordered our entrees. The server Amanda let us know the drinks were coming. I went to use the restroom. After 25 minutes our food started to come. I asked the server if the cocktails were still coming, expecting her to say, "I'm so sorry. They're coming and they're on the house." But she didn't say that. She didn't offer to get us wine or anything else to go with our now-arrived food. So i asked her to cancel them if they hadn't started to make them yet. 35 minutes after ordering they still hadn't started them. Amanda blamed the new bartender. The place was 1/3 so not backed up. We were very upset and ate our food with our tap water. Food was very good. We quickly asked for the check and the server brought it along with two glasses of champagne. She didn't say anything about why she was bringing us champagne. Once our card came back Amanda set two forks in front of us. They brought out a cupcake with a candle for my birthday. We had a sip of bubbly and bite of the cupcake and got the hell out of there. I've never asked to speak to a restaurant manager in my life but did last night as we left. She came up to us but didn't introduce herself so I don't know her name. She mentioned that Amanda had made a mistake (in contradiction of Amanda's contention that the new bartender was to blame). The mgr mentioned the complementary bubbly, but we were not told this courtesy was coming so we were just pissed as we ate. She apologized for not coming to our table, which was a nice apology but didn't help our situation. This whole thing was totally avoidable. We know mistakes happen. honest communication and making the mistake right are what we'll-run restaurants do. That's restaurant 101. Last night was terrible and we'll never be back.

Classic farm2table. A staple in Atlanta

By Steve L |

If you think you’re lost, you are almost there!! Floataway is tucked away in a small industrial section intown ATLANTA and it is so worth the hunt to find it. It’s been in Atlanta for years and is still dishing out fantastic food and professional service. Be sure to arrive early for a hand crafted cocktail at the cozy (interpret as smallish) bar. And I like the tables with a view out the floor to ceiling windows. The fresh bread service is SO good - simple country wheat sourdough with olive oil for dipping. Start with either the Burratta and/or the Piccolo Fritto (deep fried calamari, veggies and even lemon!). Go for the Casarecci pasta with the homemade meatballs (so good we ordered a few more for the table). Or you can’t ever go wrong with the fresh fish which is always prepared so simply with salt, olive oil, sprigs of herb and some lemon. And if you’re a cheese lover, you gotta try a sampler for dessert - they serve it with fresh honey and some Fruit compote. There is a reason this place survives. Not only because it is the simple, country fresh version of Bacchanalia... but the professional service and quiet ambiance makes the entire experience a delight.

Great ambiance, delicious food!

Cool aqua interior sets the tone for a lovely, delicious meal. Seasonal offerings, prepared to perfection. Highly recommend the calamari - best I've ever had. This is my husband's and my favorite restaurant for all kinds of special occasions.

Just Around the Corner

By GlobalConsultant |

Off by itself in industrial space, Floataway is a welcoming oasis, a warm, but not fussy, gem of a restaurant. It's easy to think that you've made a wrong turn, but keep going down Zonolite to near the end of the street and the Cafe is just around the corner. A cheerful greeting at the door, a busy bar, an eclectic crowd, and impeccable, enthusiastic and knowledgeable service make Floataway Cafe stand out, and that's before tasting a bite. On the most recent visit, our server, Sarah, was flawless, efficient and pleasant. We went with our mood and shared appetizers and a side rather than entrees. A standout among standouts was the octopus cassoulet. A decent wine list, reasonably priced, added to the all around glow the evening created. Floataway has been at it for a while, and they've got it down right. And it's just around the corner.

Wonderful from beginning to end. The service was exceptional . The food was plentiful and very tasty. Menu was eclectic and interesting. BUt still appropriate for a family with two teenagers. I can't say enough nice things about this place. We went midweek, so i'm sure it was a lot less crowded. I had the pork tenderloin. My wife had the steak. Son had the pizza and daughter the gnocchi. Same review for all - exceptional. A nice visit. We will definitely go back the next time we are in town.

Absolutely delicious

By StevenHScher |

There were six of us for dinner. We started with several appetizers, the Florida hoppers, which were 6 large shrimp with heads on, and the fried calamari. Both dishes were recommended by our server, which he said were perfect for sharing. They were both fantastic. The entrees were equally delicious. I had the loop de mer, which was a whole roasted European seabass. It was so good. My wife had the baked lamb shank. It was very large and delicious. The snapper looked delicious as well. Everyone loved there dinner. We shared several desserts, a cheese plate & the ice milk. Both were great but the ice milk was amazing. This meal was an excellent dining experience. Our server was excellent. Good job & a great meal.

Basic food in a gourmet way

By ReviewerAtlanta |

I don't know how I missed this restaurant. It has been operating since 1998, which is a very long time for restaurants in Atlanta. There is ample parking, and no valet. This was the first indication of the tone of the restaurant. The restaurant itself is beautifully, tastefully, and comfortably decorated. The bench seating has backs, high enough to separate you from the folks behind you. Seating is also separated by curtains giving the feeling of private dining. We were helped by Anna, who expertly offered suggestions without being pushy. She offered to split a salad and prepare it to each's liking; we didn't ask, she offered. We recognized all the food on the menu, and the explanations. This was basic food prepared by a gifted Chef who understands that tasty does not mean mystery. Our meals were absolutely delicious, we had a pasta and meat dish. The menu changes daily, so my recommendations are only good for today. Trust the Chef and your server. The lounge/bar looked so inviting we asked Anna about it, and she offered to move our dessert and night cap for us. There we enjoyed the company of Sarah, the bartender. She was knowledgeable and entertaining. I hope they don't change the dessert menu because the toffee cake was so good it was addictive. This was the first time I've enjoyed flourless cake, it was light and creamy. I realize I am raving, but Floataway Cafe deserves a rave review. Can't wait to return!

Top notch tasty food and great service.

One of our number one choices for a romantic celebration of any kind: bday, anniv, love... The service is always great, the location: hidden and romantic by definition.

Maybe it was just an off night

By Gary B |

Was at Floataway last night for dinner with friends. I've been before and enjoyed it. Maybe last night was just an off night, but everyone seemed off. We waited an extensive amount of time for our first round of drinks...no explanation why. I ordered a dirty martini...it was OK but perhaps I should have ordered it cold (I thought that was a given!). Our wait person was very nice when she came to our table...which was moments FEW and FAR between!. The food was good...I had a pizza...wasn't rockstar, but who expects rockstar in this day an age. Wait person finally came around to see if we wanted another round of drinks. I ordered another dirty and told her that the first was luke warm and it would be great if this one was chillled. Maybe they need a new ice machine (or bartender), but the second one was pretty luke warm as well. It is lovely ambience. The food was good. But the drinks were lackluster. Not sure I would go back again for the price point

Still going strong

Took my wife here for Mother’s Day and we were blown away by the food! Everything we had was top notch, easily one of the best kept secrets of the culinary world of Atlanta!

Waited to long to go back - great meal!

By R Grant C |

Just revisited Floataway on a quiet weeknight with a small group and everyone was very impressed. The meal started with Crab Fritters that were phenomenal! Calamari cooked perfectly. Pasta, hanger steak - wonderful. Chicken was good, but the bread salad it sat on was amazing! All in all a fantastic meal that lives up to it's pedigree.

Floataway to my Happy Place

By Jeff K |

Tucked in an out of the way location, Floataway Cafe has plenty of parking but finding the entrance is a bit of a challenge. My wife and I went there on Valentine's Day and loved the "feel" of the place. I guess we kind of like Industrial Ikea and the table and view were enjoyable. We both loved the burrata appetizer, our entrees were tortellini and the roasted sea bass and we finished it off with the toffee cake. The server was pleasant and knowledgable, the wine was very good and priced accordingly. Overall a nice dining experience...definitely will be back.

Good potential but consistently average

By ericAtlanta |

It's really a shame. I have been going to Floataway Cafe for more than 10 years. I live nearby. But the weak service seems to ruin the experience every time I give it another try. Last night was a perfect example. We had 7:30 reservations and the restaurant was filling but not crowded. We ordered cocktails to start the meal and they were fine. But when we placed our order, the wheels started to go off track. The food was delivered far too quickly - a problem we have had before. There was no attempt to provide service or a reasonable pace. We had a mixed lettuce salad that was below average. The greens were fresh and lightly dressed, but the salad was uninspired. A few croutons did nothing to help. Bread was not offered but was available on request. We tried the crab fritter appetizer. It must have been ready to deliver with our order because it was delivered within 2-3 minutes of placing the order. Again - no sense of pace. The fritter was one large fritter - about the size of a tangerine. The fritter was crisp and filled with nice fresh crab, but a little large and clunky. For our entree we had the Georgia Mountain trout. It was good, but the skin could have been a little more browned and crisper. Still, the fish was pretty well prepared. It was served over a handful of fresh green beans that were just okay. For a $25 entree, I expected something a little better. The ricotta tart was very good for dessert. The fresh Georgia strawberries were perfectly ripe and the tart was very good. No issues other than again, it was delivered too quickly. Overall the food was good but not outstanding. With wine, our tab was $155. There are plenty of restaurants in the area that provide food as good with much better service. Babette's and La Tavola have better food and much better service.

Great Dining Experience

Float Away Cafe for the first time

By southtripper |

Made it to the Float Away Cafe for the first time..it's tucked away in an industrial area near Emory. No one in our party of four was disappointed. The food was as good as we hoped it would be. Salads we ordered were outstanding.. with the first real tomatoes of this year..wonderful. The sea island peas were not seasoned enough and somewhat blah. Our wait person was not very friendly somewhat stiff and uninterested she could have made more of an effort. The desserts here are raved about and they were good. Float Away Cafe is owned by the Bacchanalia group. It is a worth a visit.

Outstanding prices for food of this quality

By Phil K |

I cant believe I've lived near Floataway for 12 years and just now went. Very impressive, although located at the end of a sketchy side street of old industrial buildings - we do that in Atl. It's a former garage door factory, very open and airy now. We had fried okra, roasted peppers with anchovies and something else, I forget, for appetizers, and loved the okra so much we ordered a second helping. Lightly breaded, flavorful. Crab risotto entree was a hit as well. A bottle of Chateauneuf de Pape was $42 on the menu! Are they crazy? That's barely marked up over retail. Anyway, Floataway is owned by the same people who do the esteemed Bachannalia, only it's half the price. I highly recommend.

Still some of the best food in town

By Russ855 |

I had not been here in probably a dozen years and recalled a fantastic meal from when it first opened. I am happy to see it has retained its unique charm and quality when we were taken there again by friends. First there are the imaginative cocktails. Try the botanist and substitute vodka for the gin if you like. I had the grilled artichoke and chicken schnitzel. There are several categories such as "from the land," from the farm," and "from the sea," each with about five choices. It is a very diverse menu so you are bound to find something to like. The service was impeccable and we were treated well as we lingered over a very long meal. It has a very subdued and quiet interior with tables spaced far apart. I would return in a heartbeat.

I just don't like this place very much because the menu is neither for a restaurant nor is it for a cafe. The lighting and decor is kind of interesting, but I just don't like the food.

Will be back soon

By cstocker |

As other reviewers mentioned the restaurant wasn't crowded but that wasn't a deal-breaker for me. The service was attentive and the food so yummy. The grilled octopus was ok but the red snapper and butternut squash were outstanding. I ended with the warm toffee pudding and I almost skipped out of the restaurant from delight.

Very good food, expensive

By idichev |

Overall, food and service were very good to excellent but be prepared for high prices. Octopus in the appetizer was tender, as it should be. Trout was also tender and moist, perfectly cooked. Nicely appointed space. There were some weird touches. As many have mentioned, the location is tucked away in an industrial-looking area, would be really hard to find without GPS and good signage. Strangely, had a hard time booking a reservation for the time I wanted, Open Table indicated no available space, so we booked later. On arrival, restaurant turned out to be 2/3 empty, and when we were leaving it was still only about half full. So, where this "no availability" came from is still a puzzle. Portions are on the small size, after having an appetizer and an entree, still felt like noshing a little when back home after dinner. Expect $50-$60 total per person with only moderate splurging.

Outstanding!

By Darcy C |

We had a terrific meal and experience from start to finish. Octopus, crab fritter , and burrata appetizers were all delicious. Lamb shank entree was rich and fulfilling. Sticky toffee pudding dessert was quite yummy, as was the Citrus sorbet and flourless chocolate cake. Service was seamless. Overall outstanding evening and dining experience.

Overrated - What's the fuss

By ParisGal01 |

I agree with Chris Q. Recently had dinner with friends. This was my second time at Floataway. After locating the parking lot the actual restaurant is difficult to locate unless you know exactly where you are going. Not well lit. The interior is very nice on the inside. Atmosphere - Very comfortable and modern. We had to ask the waitress to take our drink order. I asked for blue cheese olives in my martini and was told they were $2.50 a piece. Naturally I declined. I have been in lesser known restaurants and Marlowes where the bartenders happily made me blue cheese olives at no cost. Friends had veal meatballs which were very good. Anotther friend orderd a pizza which she had had before. She said they were really good. However, the night we were there must have been an off night. She didn't eat much of it an offered others a taste. To me the pizza was tatsteless. I had the trout which was excellent. It also came with cauliflower which I love. The cauliflower puree was very good however, the portion was just a small squirt - not even a fork full. One slice of bread plopped upon the plate with one very small ramekin of olive oil to share. No pepper or salt on the table - hate it when you have to ask. Waitress never came back around to ask how our meals were. With so many excellent restaurants in Atlanta I don't think I'll be back.

Great food and lovely service

By 1226jrh |

This little restaurant is hidden away in an industrial area. It is a bit hard to find if this is a first trip. Park in the large (free) parking lot. Go to the building in front of you, turn left, and go to the end, then turn right and go all the way to the back of the courtyard. It is the last door on the left, and you will see the outside seating area. We had a meal of appetizer and main. The first appetizer was the potted chicken livers, which had lovely texture and very good taste, and lots of nice bread. I like mine a little more peppery, but that is a personal taste and not a criticism. The other appetizer was the cold Maine lobster with grain and shaved radishes. The lobster was perfectly cooked, a mix of claw and tail, and the grains were properly cooked. For mains we had the cheese ravioli with pesto, well cooked and well stuffed. The lamb shanks were perfectly tender, but in my mind a little lacking in "lambiness", and the accompanying vegetables were well cooked, with some bite. Overall, an enjoyable meal, with a friendly but not intrusive waitstaff. We arrived on time and were promptly seated. About 30 minutes before our reservation, a test arrived reminding us of the reservation, and asking to let them know if we were expecting to be late or delayed. The wine list was good, although there were no rosé wines. Overall bill including wine but not tip, $124

Delightful interesting flavorful food in a relaxed modern environment.

Fig pizza was tremendous. Also save room for the warm toffee pudding for dessert...the homemade caramel was flavorful and not too sweet (as it can often be). The portions are just right.

Drink at the bar was good, then it was all downhill. Menu is ridiculously difficult to read, which should be easy to fix. None of the food was noteworthy,,,pasta was not done, pizza was mediocre at best. I left the boxed remains. Service was OK. I will not go back.

Loved our Meal

By soitgoes14 |

Floataway can be a little difficult to find since it is hidden down a small alley way, but once we found it we were very happy with our dining experience. No valet parking here. They have an ample parking lot that you can park yourself. They have a nice bar area with about 6 bar seats and a couple tables. We arrived early and had a couple cocktails at the bar. One was gin based the other bourbon. I can’t recall their names but both were well mixed and the service was as expected from the bartender. Once we finished up we were sat at our table. We liked the décor. It was nice yet also original. We did not have an issue having a conversation at dinner as the venue never got too loud. We did go on a week night and it was not full so I’m not sure how it would be on a Friday or Saturday evening. We ordered a bottle of wine to enjoy with our meal. We thought the bottle prices were very reasonable. They start your meal off with bread and butter service. The bread was a wonderful sourdough that we both enjoyed greatly. For our meal, I tried the Lamb shank and my wife tried the Casarecce. My Lamb Shank was tender and I savored ever bite. It truly was delicious. The beans and scallion it was served with were okay but the meat was easily the start of the show. As for the Casarecce it was filling and delicious too. My wife was is not a big fan of veal but wanted to try it anyway. The veal meatballs were large and delicious and the pasta was wonderful. Both dishes exceeded our expectations. To accompany the meal, we also tried the wood roasted sunchokes. I was not familiar with them and we both enjoyed how they were prepared, but walked away thinking sunchokes are not our favorite as we did not enjoy that portion of our meal as much as the others. Personally, I would try a different vegetable next time but that is just my taste. For dessert, we tried the gateau Victoire. We thought this was okay. Again, not bad but we did not love it like we did our main. We would probably try a different dessert next time. Service was great throughout the evening. We enjoyed our time here and we will be back to try other menu items!

Dessert was amazing but the rest was so-so

By mitzi l |

We recently visited this restaurant on a weekend trip to Atlanta. Although the toffee pudding dessert was among the best things I've ever eaten in my life, everything else was mediocre. I ordered the quail and it appeared to have been cooked way in advance, then reheated, as it was tough and dry. My husband ordered the featured fish, which he enjoyed but wasn't anxious to do again. If I were to go back to this restaurant, I'd go for coffee and dessert. . . only!

Food great, Drinks great, Ambiance great! Can't wait to go back.

Disappointing food, won't go back

By Julie W |

My fiance and I went here as a Friday date night, VERY excited to try another restaurant in the Star Provisions family. Unfortunately, we were greatly let down. Let me break it down by pros and cons though, because there were a lot of things we liked before we got out food. The atmosphere is fabulous outside. There is a patio with romantic lighting and trees with Christmas lights on them - an ideal atmosphere for outdoor dining. Our waitress was great, and handled everything with class. She was fairly quick in refilling waters, and was very personable. Now on to the bad. We've loved every Star Provisions restaurants we've ever been to, and were shocked at the quality of food we received that night. My fiance's pork dish that he ordered wasn't seasoned at all, and it came with half-cooked, unseasoned spring onions which were really unappetizing. He's not one to complain, but sent his meal back because it was so bad. He decided to get the Hanger Steak, which is what I got. Mine was pretty good, but nothing special for a $27 plate of steak and boring fries. My fiance asked his to be cooked medium-rare, and it was VERY rare when it came to him. So rare that he couldn't eat almost all of it. He let the staff know, and they were very apologetic and comped us those entrees, but we would never go back there in fear we would have to spend $100+ for a sub-par meal that we could've made better ourselves.
