From nj and these guys make the best pizza and subs. Try it and you won't go anywhere else.

Based on a local review, we tried Florio's Pizza for a try at "authentic" Jersey pizza. The attitude and decor may have been Jersey, but the pizza was seriously lacking and about the saltiest pizza I have ever tasted everywhere. The place was packed and seems to be a popular lunch spot, but we won't be returning anytime soon. A solid disappointment.

LOVE this pizza! Used to pick up Lunch special when I worked closer, at least once a week! Lunch special is a slice of pizza with drink for around $5.00. Pizza ingredients taste fresh, & I love the thin crust & large slices! My colleague was from Pennsylvania & really knew New York Pizza, this was her fave! Always pretty busy, closed on Monday's! Lots of New York pics, teams, signs hanging inside, and family has the New York accent. Really good pizza, worth the drive if you are not in the Alamo Heights area! Some people tend to mis-interpret the "dry humor" the family has as "rude", but I think since we live in the south, we learn to expect everyone has the "southern" way, but they are really good people!

Food was good but the man at the counter acted as if he had no life to him when taking our order. If you want good pizza but not a pleasant welcome, this is your place to go.

First time to try them. Did a carry out with friends. Pizza and calzone was great! Definitely recommend you try their food! Will be back.

Do not love the service. Not open Mondays and whenever they decide go on vacation. But pizza's good.

New York pizza by the slice or whole pizza. crispy bottom crust but soft enough to fold. 2 slices and a drink for 5.00 for lunch. our go to for a quick lunch.

Fantastic New York style pizza!!! Huge slices. My favorite is the Pepperoni. Great family owned restaurant, Definitely worth a visit!

It's a small hole in the wall that didn't live up to the hype. It sounded so good based on reviews but it wasn't anything to write home about. Don't get me wrong - it was good but not great. The subs are good - pizza good - but the cheese slid off the pizza - so the ingredients for the products were not good.

Florio's Pizza has been an Alamo Heights' staple for years and the food has always been awesome. Their pizza is great, right down to the crust, and the subs are also fantastic. They're also one of the few non-chain pizza joints in the area who still deliver-- and their very kind delivery man always does so with a smile. Highly recommended!

My wife and I started eating at Florio's back in 1995, when they were still up on Perrin Beitel. We'd recently returned from living in Europe and the Pizza was made the way we were used to, which is with very little tomato sause and thin crust. Their Antipasto Salad, again, European Style is something we get every time we go. We dont get out much anymore, but it is much more fun to eat there than to take out. Pat us a real character who does not take crap off of anyone, but she is very caring. She also bakes the best cakes anywhere. The wait is never long although it does get crowded sometimes.

Fantastic local pizza joint!! Great pizza and good prices!! 2 slices and a drink for $5!!! Great deal. Small restaurant and line will be out the door after 12pm so if you want to eat there, get there closer to 11:30 or earlier. Nice job Florios!! Well done!! I will be coming back.

My husband introduced us to this place, and if we are even remotely close, we have to stop in for a slice. It's thin crust.

True New York style pizza right in the middle of the southwest. This place brings in fresh ingredients, and makes a fantastic pie.

If you want authentic New York style pizza go to Florio’s. The sauce to cheese ratio is amazing. Also the prices are reasonable.

Florio's pizza NEVER disappoints! Wonderful NY style... you won't regret eating here, for sure! We order take out often!

I mean compared to the franchise stuff it is better and the hot subs are very nice. Then again where else are you going to go in San Antonio for thin crust NY Style pizza? I mean the place with giant slices that was on TV isn't NY style, more like novelty food than anything else. Here's my take. The pizza: The cheese sauce and spices are nice but the pie isn't cooked at a high enough temperature to develop char or those big charred air bubbles that authentic NY style pizza gets. Also usually for NY pizza the cheese distribution is very uniform and almost too much cheese, IMO. Also the ring of crust is very thin and once again usually uniform. The crust flavor is also different, almost like whole wheat without the bouquet yeasts and spices of authentic NY style pizza. Then again I could see some locals really enjoying it and having almost an out of body experience. To each their own I guess. The subs, both the Meatball Parmesan and Chicken Parmesan subs are very tasty, I'll give them that. I would say, if I was in the area and hungry, it would be on my list of places to go. Yet I wouldn't make a special trip to go there. If you're are from SA or in Alamo Heights I would give it a shot. It hints at what really good NY Style pizza is and IMO would make it in the right location in the NY Metro area. So it isn't really bad at all. BTW, I found the ladies behind the counter, contrary to some opinions, to be very nice

The pizza is excellent, both the Sicilian and the traditional. It brought back memories of New York as did the decor with all the NY sport teams signs throughout the restaurant. They do a lot of takeout business as well. The antipasto salad was terrific and the salami they put in it is delicious!!! The chicken parmigiana hero was piping hot with lots of cheese on a crispy hard Italian bread. My only disappointment was the cannoli, it tasted like it had cinnamon in it and that doesn't belong. Will definitely be back.

My son and his girlfriend live nearby and ordered this pizza dinner during our recent visit They consider this pizza to be considered the New Jersey style of thin crust Italian pizza. Lots of flavor & plenty of cheese. Restaurant staff not very friendly so deducted one grade.

We stopped by here for lunch and the line was already out of the door. The pizza was very good, served quickly and was hot. I will definitely be back.

This little pizza place has had rave reviews from locals as the best pie in San Antonio. Are you talking to me? Are you kidding me. We have tried their carry out pizza at least three times. We live near this place and would love them to do a good job, but each time we order a pizza the quality and ingredients have gotten worse. The last pie we picked up from them was in December. We ordered the Florio's Special. It comes with pepperoni, sausage, green pepper, extra cheese, onions and black olives. They were very stingy on the meat with only a piece of pepperoni and sausage per slice. There was plenty of green pepper and lots of ripe olives, but for about $23 I expect a lot more meat and cheese. The crust is always soft and floppy, we can usually repair that with a few extra minutes in the oven. This has not been a good place for pizza. The Italian hero sandwich is quite good.

Been here on two separate occasions. First time we got the pepperoni pizza, which was great. Even better than the pepperoni was the Veggie pizza--flavorful and it held its own. Also tried the sausage pizza, was everything we expected. Good stuff all around!

We ordered the Italian sandwich & a slice of pepperoni pizza each. The best I've ever eaten. The crust on the pizza is cooked to perfection. And the sandwich bread is like this heavenly perfect crisp roll with the freshest meat & cheese. The shaved veggies are awesome on it with very light Italian dressing. Omg. My new favorite sandwich pizza joint.

Love their pizzas! Crust is perfect, sauce flavorful and just the right amount of toppings. Have to say that my favorite thing is their cold Italian sub. Between the sauce, the quality meats and the between, it's one of the best, if not THE best I've had

Great New York Style pizza, good crust and toppings. Our new favorite pizza spot. They have a $5 lunch special that includes 2 good size slices of pizza and a drink. I can see why people might complain about the service, but hey if you want New York pizza it has to be made by real New Yorkers (no offense to anyone ). They have never been rude to us just a little get to point kinda serious voice from the cashier. I got him to smile the last time we went. :)

As i have said before, I am a pizza snob. We went here on the recommendation of my grandson, as he put it "it's pretty good pizza". I will have to agree, it is good pizza, The crust is spot on and the sauce is not too sweet. I will definitely go back.

I think I can finally stop my rant about there not being any good true NY pizza to be found in San Antonio. The pizza here reminds me of pizza that I grew up with in upstate NY. As true NY pizza goes, it is not overly-sauced, and the crust is bendable and fold-over. Florios did not disappoint in this regard. The only "odd" thing I would say is that the Italian Sausage was a little weird, not in taste, but in how it was prepared/sliced (length-wise and very thinly sliced) and placed on pizza. It tasted fine, though so no real complaints.

Hands down the best pies in San Antonio. Florio's is NY style pizza at its best...with a friendly, though no nonsense proprietor presiding the operation from the register. You get top notch pizza and a smile. Can't get better than that.

I have eaten here since they opened. Just solid and consistent good tasting pizza. There is an attitude that reminds me of my home town. Love it. Don

Best pies by far in SA! Slices are generous and food is delicious. One of my favorites places for pizza definitely East Coast style.

as you can tell, it's the best pizza I've ever had. Thin crust, perfect cheese to sauce ratio....just love it! The owners who run the place are NYers....so you get a bit of that attitude...but imho..it's more authentic this way! gotta love em'..... worth the try...

Went there for lunch today and had a meatball sub. The bread wad good, nice cheese, but the meatballs didn’t have a lot of flavor. Too many other good places near to go back, but if you like Fox News, this is your place.

We ordered the cold Italian sub and it was so good. I was ready to have another the very next day. I would have asked to have the onions taken off but that's just me. Everything else was awesome.

This is our absolute favorite pizza in town. Great family that runs it and gives you the best New York style pizza ever!!!

This is the third pizza place in Texas I’ve reviewed. One in San Marcos, one in Austin, and now this one in San Antonio. But I’ll say it again... I’m from Jersey- I know real pizza. THESE people are also from the northeast. You go in there and you better know what you want and not stand there, messing around and wasting their time. I used to live in the area and went to Alamo Heights. Florio’s was a favorite lunch spot. We’d try and go once a week. Always felt like I was back home again eating in there. My favorite part of the place is their choice of decor. They’ve got a wall of police badges from Jersey, New York, Philly (PA, you know), amongst other NE memorabilia. My dad is a retired Camden city cop and gave me his badge to give to them. I gave it to them to add on their wall years ago when I was still in school. Last time I ate there, it was still on the wall. There’s not only great pizza, but a passion for food and home. That’s family. I’ve got another badge for you guys from my dad in Jersey. I’ll be seeing you soon.

I always make it a point to get pizza and other goodies whenever I can. I really enjoy the antipasto salad and I love their pizza. I like their meatballs sub also. Would highly recommend this place to everyone except those that don't understand a New Jersey attitude or those that like corporate cardboard.

The owners are from NJ and I am from NJ and appreciate the thin crust and awesome prices - the pizza is great !! Also love the Ny and Nj décor - like being back home at a pizzeria

Local joint without any frills but great tasting pizza. I love the pizza sauce flavor and the thin crust. I prefer smaller pies because the center stays crispier. Also, the meatball sub is very good!

Great New York pie w/ attitude to match.

The plain cheese pizza is out-of-this-world!!!! The wait is well worth and the owners were super....

I am NOT a pizza eater, but this pizza is of the chain... It has a little sauce which lets you focus on the cheese and crust. I love the peperoni mushroom

The owners are always there when I order my pizza. They are wonderful. Fast service great conversation ... Highly recommend !!

This place had been recommended by a friend. Even though it was relatively close to where I live, it was a little difficult to find, given that it is in the back of a strip that faces Broadway. Well worth looking for. When I arrived, I became a little concerned when I saw Italian sausage coming out flat and looking a little dry on another customer's pizza. I took a chance and ordered it anyway, with onion. The sausage was very good, the onions were perfect. They were soft and tender, not hot. The crust was perfect, crisp, not tough, but just the right amount of chewy. I will definitely be back. BTW, I have read some reviews of this restaurant that said the service was poor. I did not find that to be the case. The person taking my order did not rush me, was polite and the cooks and servers behind the counter were quick and friendly. The counter is a nice touch!

Living here in San Antonio since 2008 and being raised in the Little Italy section of the Bronx as a kid I am the first to be on the look out for real NY pizza. So after reading some reviews here I decided to drive about 15 minutes to this pizza joint located in the alamo heights sections of san antonio (close to the Quarry in case you feel like doing some shopping). I got a medium 16" pizza with sausage and pepperoni and a sausage calzaone. When i got to Florio's it felt like a mom and pop pizza joint, inside full of all kinds of NY memorabilia, and the staff was great. I was introduced to the entire family, and we spoke about life back in NY/NJ. The pizza itself was great, the sauce and cheese to be tasted like back home, a medium pizza here is comparible to a large pizza ala san antonio style (price was not bad $ 11.55 plus 1.40 per topping/can feed 3-4) - pretty big pizza for the medium size. As for the calzone itself I am not a big fan of ricotta cheese so I was not too thrilled about that selection - that I blame on my taste buds. In short I would go back in a hearbeat, as this is as close as you can get to real NY pizza.

Hands down this is the best pizza in town. Family owned and run, this gem is well worth trying! Kind of feels like you're in New York City (the owners hail from there).

My wife and I decided to try Florio's today as we had heard quite a bit of hype about how good, authentic, etc. the pizza was. We were told it was a small place that was usually very busy around lunch time, so it was not unexpected when we found that the place was on the smallish side, but to our delight, not very busy. We both decided to order the lunch special which was two slices of cheese pizza and a drink for $4.40. Each additonal topping was $.40 extra. I opted for pepperoni and mushroon and meatball and black olive. My wife ordered similarly. Our total was $6.00 a piece which is fairly reasonable. We were given 8 oz. plastic coke bottle shaped glasses for our drinks . . . a little on the smallish side, but you can get free refills which you have to go back to the counter for. Our pizza was served in about 10 minutes on paper plates . . . the thin kind from Walmart with the fluted edges and highly collapsible composition. O.K. . . . . Then there was the much touted pizza. It appears that they prepare cheese pizzas in advance (where's the cheese???? . . . where's the sauce???) and then put the cold toppings on afterwards. My pepperoni and meatball toppings were paper thin and the mushrooms and olives fell off becuase they were not cooked into the pizza as one would normally expect. My wife wanted utensils to eat the pizza with and was given a packet with plastic knife and fork. She broke the knife on the crust . . . . I understand that some folks like it this stout and crunchy . . . my wife did not. I have had New York pizza before in New York and this ain't it. Or at least what I had before was worlds apart (better). Not to be mean, but Sam's pizza is better than what I was served today (and half the price). At least it is served piping hot with plenty of gooey cheese, sufficient sauce, and generous toppings. Maybe it was an off day . . . maybe they ran out or real plates, utensils and adult size glasses . . . maybe their oven wasn't working as well as it should . . . maybe the pizza is really just not that good!! Whatever the case, we will not be returning for another slice of mediocre pizza. Sorry folks, but maybe it is an acquired New Yorker taste thing. Because if you like a crispy crust (which was not bad), scant cheese and sauce with uncooked toppings, this is the place for you! And as far as the NYC/NJ attitude is concerned, mama always taught us to treat others with manners and respect. To do otherwise is just not acceptable, particularly for a business. And place of origin, whether it is New York or Hong Kong, is no excuse in my book for any kind of abrupt, rude or unappreciative behavior towards the customer.

Being from New York, I had to travel back there to eat good pizza. Now I have found it here! It reminds me of the little mom-and-pop shops that were on every street corner in NY. I was introduced to this place actually by a fellow New Yorker. I'm glad that it's here in San Antonio. If you want the NY food as well as the atmosphere then you have to go!

On a business trip to San Antonio and saw that this pizza place had good reviews so decided to call for delivery. Well the lady who answered the phone was quick to say no! Oh well, I understand. I took Lyft to eat there. Upon entering the joint I was directed to cashier to order pizza. The guy took my order seemed like had no life in him - no smile, no hello, nothing..ordered my pizza and I was handed a paper napkin...bill was $20 for a large pizza with jalapeños, peppers and onions! Wow! Few min later I got my pizza, which was not bad tasting but very soggy. If you like crispy crust then this is definitely not for you! I told the lady who brought the pizza to me that I will need a box to go.. but she never brought it to me. In fact I didn't even get the plastic ware so after getting my pizza I had to go to the front and ask for fork/knife. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place unless u don't care about poor service.

Clean without all the dust collecting decorations. Pizza made to order to your taste and not some formula of discount ingredients. I eat there two to three times a week because I like good tasting food1

I've had Chicago style pizza in Chicago. I can now say I've had NY pizza without having to travel to it. This is fantastic. The crust was light and flaky. The sauce is spiced perfectly and the cheese isn't too thick. When you fold it the oil pools a little. Classic. The ladies aren't super friendly, but I think that's just how we interpret it in Texas. They are New Yorkers. They are direct and no nonsense. Have your order somewhat in mind before you hit the register. :)

If you are looking for good, classic pizza, NY style, this is your place! No pineapple, wings, or ranch dressing...no, not here. Enjoy the great crust and high-quality cheese and sausage, which comes from NJ. The cold Italian is the signature sub, but the meatball and peppers parm is awesome. The cakes are all homemade. The beer and wine list is adequate. The family is great.

Pizza had excellent crust, cheese and toppings. Sauce was just a little bland and could have had some more seasoning in it.

Great little local place. Smells like I remember 'home', being from 'Jersey". Pizza by the slice the whole thing. Always try to get by when I am in S/A
Great Pizza_DvB
My initiation began with a stereotypical New York obnoxiousness of tone. My father and I were standing in the doorway, incrementally moving into the establishment as the five to seven person existing line allowed. The woman at the register said, in a voice meant to project and sassy tone, “gentlemen, get inside, you’re letting all my air out.” Note, the tone was all New York City, but so too was the polite phrasing and common sense point: we were letting the cool air out. The pizzeria is festooned with New York City paraphernalia from a 9/11 flag with victims’ names, to New York Jets and other sports team mementos. The woman at the register did not respond to “pieces,” but to “slices” and the pizzas were “pies.” Commonly misconstrued as discourtesy, the directness and veiled respect were apparent, and added to the authentic flavor. In addition to the uniformly NYC atmosphere and attitudes, the pies were authentic. We ordered a Florio (similar to a supreme pizza) and a vegetable topped one. I had to force myself to stop after three slices. The crust was flaky and toppings tasted fresh. Overall, the food was great and the staff and décor emphasized the NYC intent.
