Great

Robert took the service to the next level. Loved it, and had an amazing time. The food is next level good.

Disappointed

By Tom M. |

This was our "go to" choice for special occasions for years. We had a not-so-great experience about 18 months ago and figured it was due to new staff after the lockdown had been lifted so decided we would wait a while to give them time to really get things back on track. We recently went back to celebrate our anniversary and, like the last time, it was a disappointment. They still have excellent meats but the Portland location is still having some real issues with service. There were very long waits between servers coming around with meat selections and when we requested something (lamb) we were told "It'll be right out" but it was 45 minutes...essentially when we were almost finished...before it showed up. We had difficulty getting anyone's attention when we needed anything and there were very few servers walking around with meat. Our dirty plates just sat at the edge of the table and nobody picked them up until toward the end of our meal. But one of the most frustrating things was that we did not get any sides or Chimichurri sauce until a solid 30 minutes after we began eating...it seems that these things should be brought out early in the meal and WITHOUT you having to repeatedly flag someone down to ask for them. Very disappointing experience. This used to be our favorite restaurant in Portland but it has truly gone downhill which makes us very sad.

Best dinner in town

Amazing service, delicious food and great price. Very elegant and professional. Take a friend, fiancé, spouse or kids and you won’t be disappointed. Jillian is a great host and Robert is the plug!

Good food, expensive evening

By RealPeopleRoam |

We had a 7pm dinner reservation and arrived on time. We were told to sit in the bar with all the others awaiting tables. Apparently we all had reservations that could not be accommodated. We were led to a table 40 minutes later. Bad start to our evening. It was hard to stay angry once our waitress arrived. Lauren was pleasant and efficient. She explained that in a Brazilian restaurant, for a set price, the waiters keep coming by with different types of large skewered meat. Customers can eat as much or as little as they like. There are red and green cards on the table, which lets the waiters know if you are ready for more meat. The meat came to our table frequently and it was all delicious! In between, we made trips to the extensive salad bar. The Brazilian Steakhouse is an experience! Due to the cost of the meal, I recommend you wait for a very special occasion.

Food

The restaurant, food and services is soooo good, I love everything in this restaurant, the cheese with honey is my favorite, you can try and never going to forget

A lot of meat

By Leon A |

There is a lot of meat: chicken, pork, beef and serve-yourself salad bar. Apart from all that I enjoyed a genuine Brazilian beer. It was noisy, too crowded and very busy.

Birthday

By Thanh Ha V |

I took my boyfriend for his 53rd birthday at Fogo de Chaos in Portland with his mom who’d came from Seattle and our 4 teens back in March. We had a great experience! The service was phenomenal. Our cute server Sylvie was extraordinary. Despite the crowd and the many tables she served, she was very enthusiastic and attentive. I love the salad bar and their varieties of meats were fantastic! I definitely will bring my family back for Father’s Day!

Very good, but expensive.

By OOCCAA |

Food was excellent. Lots of veggies, mushrooms, fruits. Meat was cooked well. Service was good. Parked my car in parking garage a couple of blocks from the restaurant. Everybody was friendly. Nice soft music. Very happy. Not cheap though. $37/person.

Great food and service - but very pricey!

By Anne W |

Our server Joel was great, and the food was delicious! We were there to celebrate a birthday, and a good time was had by all!

Exceptional steak!

By LevKL |

All steaks and available meats were perfectly prepared, the staff was skilled and kind, large variety of side dishes and salad. Highly recommend!

Very Pleased with Our Visit

By Bill R |

Went with friends to Fogo de Chao during Portland Dining Month. We had been reluctant to go because of the high price. We were pleasantly surprised. The salad bar was vast. The choice of meats was large. All the cuts were good but some were great. We enjoyed our meal with Fogo de Chao Argentinian wine from the Mendoza region. For all that you get, the price is not high. The restaurant is also open at lunch time. We will go back.

Son’s birthday

By Mary J |

I have been here 2 times and it has been great. Made reservations for my son’s birthday at 6:15. We checked in at 6:10. The place was super crowded and we were stuffed liked sardines. The door kept opening as they seemed to be broken, it was a cold windy night. After 15 minutes my husband asked how much longer and the front staff said they didn’t know. After 30 minutes my son wanted to go so I told the front staff we wanted to cancel, we reserved through Open Table. She tried to convince me to stay as a table would open up soon. Why would I when I made a reservation 30 minutes ago? Not cool. Beware. Your reservation means nothing. They don’t care about customers. They lost a lot of money that night as we were a fable of 6.

The best food experience you can ask for, when visiting in Portland

By breyden errett |

The staff here at Fogo de Chão is beyond amazing, the food is spectacular, from the cuts of delicious meat, to the mouth watering anti pasta bar. Robert the head honcho of the place, keeps his staff hard-working super polite and they were the most gracious people on their feet. The amount of tasks that are done here is incredible. Even the bartenders go above and beyond for the drinks that they prepare, alcoholic or not. There is no better experience in Portland food wise, customer service wise and I will be a loyal fan here for the rest of my days. Robert, thank you again for such an amazing New Years lunch for me and my family. I cannot thank you enough for the service you provide to my brother who is blind autistic and he always feels so welcomed here .

Excellent salad bar

By Phil G |

We went there on a Thursday night about six and it was very busy. And it's a very large restaurant. My wife speculated that there must've been quite a few tourists and business people and suburbanites with a few locals? The salad bar is probably one of the best you'll see with a lot of variety but is spendy at $30.95 a person. If you want steak ribeye or Chilean sea bass that's an added expense. But you can get by adequately with the salad and there is some protein there like lightly smoked salmon lox, cold cuts, and some kind of chicken salad that I thought was potato salad but was actually cubes of very good chicken salad. There is plenty of bread and soup included in the $30.95. The plates are a large so you can make a very good meal and evening of it . With all those people in there it is kind of noisy though. Parking is a little bit tricky – we were able to park down on fourth Street and walked up a couple blocks for a price of $1.87. If you like salad bars and or meat and willing to spend a little extra, it is worth a try at least once. Our friend that was with us was there for the second time. Because they are vegetarians and it has a really good salad bar, he wanted to bring his wife to try it out, so he thought enough of it to do that. So that says something for the restaurant.

smaller Fogo space . . .still top notch experience

By Mark T |

Portland's Fogo de Chao Brazilian upholds the high standards of other locations in a smaller footprint. there is a cheaper $39/ person monthly option you need to be aware of for dining. the salad bar was amazing and the variety and quality of meats brought to the table impressive.great option for business meetings and special occasions

Not terrible but only fair

By Sleepfairy1962 |

Certainly not my first time here but possibly my last. Outdoor dining was curbside and tented. Chair and table were a bit lop-sided and unbalanced. Had to ask several times for specific cuts of meat which weren't always served hot. They love to keep the more expensive cuts of meat in the back as all we primarily saw were chicken, sausage, pork and cheaper sirloin cuts. If we didn't ask pacifically for cuts of me which we well expect and pay for we would never have seen them. Caramelized bananas tonight were terrible as well as the side of garlic mashed potatoes. Cocktail was 2/3 ice 1/3 drink add was charged for a premium cocktail when I never requested premium liquor. For a $75 plus tip meal I expect a lot more.

Great place

By Rosielikestotravel |

This is a fun experience for those who like to EAT. The waiters come by quite frequently with different cuts of meat, hot off the grill, from the cheap stuff all the way to prime rib. You have a paper coaster next to your plate; coaster is green meaning "stop here" to meat carriers; turn it over to red so they don't bother you. My hubby is not a meat eater so he skipped that part and ate a fish dish. They have a huge salad bar, pasta bar and dessert bar. You won't eat for another few days. We've been back twice with friend. It is a real treat to eat here.

Watch out for the salad bar

By Scott T |

A really good food experience. They have a tremendous salad bar but be careful because if you eat too much to begin with, you won't have enough room for all the meats. Of course, this is what they hope happens. The meats are served and cut from skewers and are very tasty. I thought the service was a little slow & inattentive but to be fair it was busy.

Our Second Visit, our new favorite

By spelkey56 |

We came here last summer and we loved it so much we came back for our anniversary. We live 100 miles away so we decided to stay the night in Portland and do a late lunch here. It did not disappoint. It's expensive but for a special occasion it's such a treat I don't care. I had to curb my enthusiasm about the salad bar so I wouldn't be too full for the meat. That was hard because it's probably the best salad bar I've ever experienced, no kidding. The meat? 3 different sirloins, 2 different chickens, lamb, pork rib, filet mignon, ribeye, I lost track. I finally had to stop myself. We shared a creme brulee and wow! I don't want to write anymore because it's just making me hungry.

All you can eat meat!! Oh and salad bar too!

By Suzanne K |

SO MUCH FABULOUS FOOD! If your LOVE meat, Fogo de Chao is a must!! Endless amounts of meat cut table-side. The service was superb. The staff was friendly and attentive. Never once did I see them rattled even though the restaurant was packed. There were a couple of times I couldn’t understand what cut of meat they were serving but once it hit my taste buds, all was forgiven. And the meat will come out again so you’ll have another chance to get the cut description. My favorites were the beef rib (ask for it if they haven’t offer it yet), the bottom sirloin, the bacon wrapped filet and the candied bacon from the salad bar. The dessert selection was huge. I have no idea how I made room for key lime pie but somehow I powered through it! I have been to FdC before on a date and it was great but also a ton of fun to go with a big group.

Great service

By Rhonda L |

This is my 5 th time to Fogo de Chao. The food is consistently amazing the service we had was fantastic. We brought an expensive bottle of White Rose Pinot Noir. A $25.00 cork fee seemed high. I’ve never paid more than 15.00. Our visit was Friday night at 6:30. Restaurant was very busy...... and diners well dressed....... I have been before and people have their pajama pants on. Glad to see Portland step up its fashion game.

Brazilian style dinner

By hisham T |

Its huge venue, strange nice concept, there is open salad buffet fresh and rich, for main course all kinds of meat and chicken served to your table with no limit and waiters with screws of meet offering more and more ,you will have a signe if you are full or need rest, the captains push you to eat more. It a chain of restaurant in other Stats. Very reasonable price.

Worst experience ever

By Bettyinoregon |

Oh where to start, where to start? So...I made reservations a week ago, so that we could celebrate my husband's 25 years at his job. I wanted a high end amazing dinner. I wanted him to be celebrated. Instead, it seems the reservation system didn't take my reservation right and so when it didn't show up we did another one..so we had two. Neither were at the right time. I tried to CALL and tell them this, so they would know we were arriving at 5:30 as we had originally attempted to get a reservation, nothing They have simply quit answering the phones there. I arrive and the entry is PACKED as in another person would not fit so my son stood outside. I thought this odd as it is a reservation only restaurant. I explain to the young woman with the ipad about the times and she says ...oh you would not have been seated, it's good it messed up because you are too late for the first one. I said well, it was supposed to be a 5:30 seating not 5. She reiterates I'm lucky as I would not have been seated. Well, I said, if you answered you phone I could have connected with you. Now this is a little annoying because when the area around this restaurant was filled with pepper spray I supported it, we came several times during that period. We would often be one of maybe 8 tables in the entire place. Sigh. So I wait and I wait and I wait. Half an hour in I say to her, "I'm confused. So generally, you are seated within 10-15 mintues of your reservation time. Why are all these people here?" Oh, she explains...these people are still here because people are not leaving the restaurant. How odd. Then I said what reservation times are you seating now. 4:30. It is now nearly 6pm. I said this is insane, I look up their yelps, mostly 1's right now. I say, get me the manager. She says she will ...eventually after she does this and that and the other thing. The manager comes over and I explain I booked way in advance so my husband would have a very special night. He says he will seat me right away. How many in my party, he asks. Three, I say. About ten minutes later he comes to get us. The young woman with the Ipad actually rolls her eyes and lets out a huge breath of air as if this is disturbing to her. We get to the table, and it is set for TWO. He was SURE I had said two. I said no....3. They put two tables together quickly, but then we are aghast to see them putting napkins all over the table...making a "table cloth" out of them. How odd. We get our first food--not bad, a few missing items on the buffet area but...whatever. Then we wait and wait and wait for meat. We were seated for more than half an hour when we got our first meat option. We have a few more, we ask for prime rib. We wait, we wait, I finally ask where the bread, the mashed potatoes etc are. "Oh, we are only serving that if you specifically request it as we are too busy for that." Wait, you are charging me the full amount but if I had not asked I would have gotten meat and a salad bar, no promised sides from the menu. Not acceptable. We had no less than seven servers ask what meat we wanted. Seven times we said "Prime Rib, rare." We waited, we waited we waited, nearly 2 hours after being seated we get ONE skewer of prime rib. Then being the gluttons for punishment we are, we ordered dessert. I had told the manager, mentioned in my reservation, and told our server that we were there to celebrate my husband's 25th work anniversary. We wait and wait over 1/2 an hour to get the dessert. When we were done we had been there 3.5 hours. Just waiting to be fed. I was still hungry, but I was tired of waiting. The dessert comes out and with much fanfare, the server provides the dessert plate marked "congratulations" to ME. Not to my husband. The customer service person came over, took 20 percent off our bill...which was sizable. Then he gives us three $25 gift cards. That CANNOT BE USED TOGETHER. Pretty useless. I'll probably never go back. But, I thought, the manager tried and the customer service person did something ...not much but something... I won't yelp them tonight. I am crawling into bed after eating my after dinner dinner at home...and I get an email. Open table lets me know my status to be able to reserve on open table could be in danger as I didn't complete my reservation. Holy canoli. So, I'm writing this review. Hint: The wait is so long because noone can leave until they are fed and your people aren't feeding anyone. PS At least we had napkins on our table. Behind us, a table was lined with butcher table and tape. Now I get that your usual vendor can't get them clean, so order more...get a second vendor, something....

too expensive

By jack d |

we were invited here for a family dinner....the place is a rip off....too expensive for the things you can have at an ordinary steakhouse...i do not recommend unless you have won a lottery !!!

Typical Chain

By Asadullah Kazmi |

This establishment is quite bad as the servers don’t remember what one has ordered. The meat is definitely of low quality and the management needs to take a good look at their suppliers.

Disappointing

By joer123456 |

We have been to Fogo a number of times. This time, we made a reservation for 7:15. When we arrived at 7:15, we were told there would be a 45 minute wait. I said we made a reservation for 7:15. The entryway was so packed, one could barely get in the door. Yes, it was Saturday night, but 45 minutes for a reserved table?? Needless to say, we went elsewhere. We made a reservation for 6:00 the next night. We arrived early, at 5:30. I asked if we would have to wait until 6:00 to be seated and the hostess said no, it will be about 5 minutes. 10 minutes later, I asked about our table and a different hostess said we wouldn't be seated until 6:00! I asked to see the manager and she left to fetch him/her. 10 seconds later, we were seated.by a different host. Both of these events indicate a staff training problem and/or problem in the reservation system. The food is generally good, but what I have learned is if one has a favorite cut of meat, it takes a very long time to get them to bring it around. We probably won't return for a long time There are so many excellent restaurants in Portland, it's silly to put up with bad experiences.

Fun experience

By mpatjesselee |

We had a lovely special dinner to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The food was outstanding. The variety of salads was amazing to go along with the expertly prepared grilled meats. Be prepared it is quite pricey for a full dinner including dessert and coffee.

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!

By Resort10422561389 |

Thanksgiving 😵‍💫👎🏻 Nightmare👎🏿 _________________________________ We stupidly choose the place to take our out of town guests from California!! And We foolishly choose downtown! What a complete embarrassment!!! We had 5:15 reservations (and showed up right on time) we waiting ( in a very loud and crowded-small area) for 15-20 minutes and then found out they were just seating 4pm reservations at that time! They over booked reservations and the lobby was filled over capacity with bodies . At one point they came out with a giant meat platter with toothpicks to feed the hangry crowd. ( it was unbelievable) The poor hostesses were as pleasant as they could be but they were overwhelmed and the entire restaurant was a complete and utter sh*t show! One employee came running in - barging threw the crowd unapologetically like he’d been called into work on his day off.. Another employee mentioned to us “Don’t ever come here on a Holiday “ So we walked out , down the street and found a hot meal at a hotel lobby around the corner! This was our first and (without question ) our last time at this restaurant.. There’s No Excuse for the way everyone was treated! Absolutely no respect for anyone just a greedy overselling of seating!! You couldn’t give me a free dinner at this place.

Pricey, mask-less, and lacking flavor

By Ann R |

In the city where masks are still mandated, I was surprised that masks were not required and the salad bar ("Market") - open plates, open faces, self-serve...made me uncomfortable as did the passing of skewered meat throughout the restaurant. Somehow, I thought this might change during Covid19 but no. A few table clothes were soiled, including ours, when we were seated. We were reseated. The real disappointment for me was that for $56 pp for "the experience" of having people shave meat at your table all-you-can-eat was that most of the meat had little to no flavor. Most cuts were chewy. Desserts were extra. One of three sides included in "the experience" was not available. The rolls were amazing but that's not really what you go for, is it! Great place to take big meat-eating college students and big eaters with the all-you-can-eat. For folks with smaller stomachs, ordering off the menu is probably the best way to go - that's what I'll do next time.

Fantastico!!!!! Wonderful Mother’s Day

By Ella |

We had reservations for Mother’s Day and was a little unsure of what to expect . After reading a few unhappy customers and many many super happy one . I came out a believer and satisfied. Parking super easy , if you use valet you can walk right in from garage . Upon entering the restaurant I noticed that it was beautiful and well taken care of . Very nice atmosphere with music and huge sitting areas . Very good vibe with people moving about and meat floating on skewers. Walked by a beautiful well taken salad bar . This is not your typical salad bar : fresh fruit , kiwis, watermelon, papaya , blood oranges , cantaloupe , many different types of salads , roasted red and yellow papers, grilled asparagus, grilled eggplant. Wonderful sliced 3 verity salami and presuto. Nice cheese platter and a huge Parmesan cheese wheel that was feeding scraped for super fresh cheese . Fresh sliced banquets on the side . They had small servings of mash potatoes brought out , but we didn’t come for that , we all tasted and they were great . They all have wonderful rolls made with cheese for the table . The meat coming around was hot ,delicious, and plenty of it . Wonderful cuts of meat top quality . In fact the main waiter came by several times and asks if we had enough Meat and we needed the meat service at our table . Manger was there walking around to make sure everything was great , helping and hiding the staff , the plates were getting picked up right away . Super customer service and great drinks . I will go back for sure and recommend to anyone who loves meat .

Good Appetizers and Drinks

Well-made caipirinhas. The bar area is small but offers good windows to watch the world. The beef empanadas were wonderful - the meat was a just a bit fatty to add flavor.

Not Satisfied and won't be returning

By Journey57750355342 |

Our family of 9 dined on Saturday, March 11, 2023. For 5 of us it was our first time, and will be the last time eating there. We were seated at our scheduled time. The service was poor to say the least. 5 of us ordered the full experience and the meat carvers stopped by 4 times and twice was with the same meat choice. It took 1 hour for two carvers to stop at our table with the same choice of meat and the meat cards were always in the serve position. One carver dropped meat on the floor and didn't even bother to have it picked up. Two of us ordered and entree of Chilean Sea Bass and the Salmon. The portions wouldn't of satisfied a child. We were supposed to have grilled asparagus and we were served steamed broccoli. We were never offered any sides that were supposed to accompany the dinner. Two sides of mashed potatoes, two bowls of biscuits (7 total) and two sides of bananas were all that was brought to the table. We asked for more but none were delivered. The restaurant was busy and there was a lot of service people so I don't understand the poor quality of service. Water glasses were filled only once and it took over 30 minutes to get them to serve water.

Good place

It was my birthday and I waited for a hour for a table and food was decent at its best steak was ehhh I mean if you like steak pork and lamb it’s good but I asked for filet mignon and it never came around and my gf asked for mash potatoes but didn’t get any not worth the wait just go spend the money somewhere

A meat-lover’s paradise!!

By CDNTerry |

If you’ve never experienced a Brazilian steakhouse experience then do yourself a favour, bring a big appetite and come here for a great time. Basically an all you can eat restaurant. Servers come by with large skewers of bbq meat and slice pieces off onto your plate. You get a YES/NO card that you turn to yes when you want servers to stop by and offer you meat cuts and turn to no when you want to sit, relax and digest. They also have an all you can eat salad bar with a great selection of salads, greens, cold cuts, cheese, soups and breads. And then an all you can eat sweet bar for dessert with cakes, pastries, ice cream, etc. You can’t help but be full after this experience. Great for special events and family outings. Bartender does a great job on mixed drinks, obviously has some traditional Brazilian drinks to make the experience even more authentic!!

Great Value

By Expos01 |

We went to Fogo and ate at the bar which was a great value. One visit to the salad bar is only $15 dollars and includes meats and cheese and soup on salad bar. High quality selection. As well we had the beef skewers which was better than steaks we have had at steakhouses

Skip this location

By 1968GT500 |

This is my first bad review. While I love Fogo this was hands down the worst location I have ever been too. Downtown Portland has turned into one massive cesspool. The offensive graffiti and mentally ill homeless people surround the place. The restaurant was terribly understaffed. The salad bar, which at every other location is magnificent, was not stocked, picked over and looked like it was golden coral. While we had the full service we never got all of our sides while the servers tried and were friendly they were way understaffed. This place is far below par for their operation. I’d suggest going to Ruth’s Chris around the corner for the money.

Come hungry

By Loomin8 |

This is my second time to this type of restaurant. The wait staff were extremely attentive, the meet was delicious and tender and flavorful. Don’t fill up on side dishes or you’ll be sorry that you missed out on something fantastic from the Grill. While it’s a tad expensive, I do think it’s worth every penny. No one left hungry and everyone enjoyed the meal. A good recommend.

Date night

By michellesV368IZ |

This was our first time here at Fogo De Chão and we were so excited because we have heard great things about it and it was a much needed date night. From walking in, to being greeted and exacorted to our table everything was aamazing! They came and explained how it worked and what to expect and do! The service was impeccable, the food was amazing! We loved the lamb! And the dessert we had was the strawberry cheesecake! Everything was amazing especially for our date night! Im happy we got to experience it.

Excellent

By anatraveller |

We came here with Friends for a farewell. I had visited many times the one that is in Houston, but the PDX Fogo didn’t disappointed us, excellent picanha and lamb chops, salad bar as always had a lot choices, if you don’t want to eat meat you can eat just the salad bar and they adjust the price for it . Good selection of wine! We had a great attention and service from Sidneia.

Excellent Food and Salad Bar, expensive, Service inconsistent

By Vienes |

Great hostess and seated promptly with reservation, great service from beginning server and gauchos, good cocktail and wine, food excellent and tasty (all meats and lamb superb), but over the top expensive and service good to start, then faded badly. Had to ask for water refill, plates to be cleared from table, had to request coffee and promised complimentary dessert, and even wait for the check for 20 minutes. Our server went home, we were then basically abandoned. Side dishes were pretty average, except the plantains were excellent.

Not much bang for the buck

By Paula B |

Staff were nice but meats were slow coming and both the pork and lamb were over cooked and dry. We ordered the "Full experience" but in the hour and a half we sent there we were never offered the filet mignon or rib eye. And the one soup butternut squash and carrot was kind of sour tasting and no beans or rice. Also, the waiter asked us if we would like to order any drinks to start, we said just water please and later come to find out we were charged $7 for it. Seemed like they ran out of food even though it was a Thursday and it wasn't even a full house.

Date night

By Mary P |

Had great service from Shelby food was hot and fresh. Loved the salad bar. It was well worth the trip.

Great food, great service!

By BLUELAKEAVE |

We alway love their salad bar, appetizers, food options, both meat and vegetables. Everything was great except that we had a reservation but didn’t get to be seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time. The servers were very attentive.

Always delicious!

By Terri R |

I know most people come here for the great selection of meat but their salad bar is incredible! I'm not a big meat eater but there are enough choices that I have plenty to eat. Also, the sides they offer are so delicious. You always leave here satisfied.

Bad experience all around

By Saraah M |

We have loved this restaurant since 2014. We have gone to celebrate engagements graduations, holidays with family etc. So very disappointing that the food has gone to the dogs. We were served raw chicken twice the second time was after bringing it to the attention of the server he came back with more chicken again ice cold and raw in the middle. One roaster was not in service creating a backlog of guests waiting for meat that would come out 20-30 minutes apart. Drinks were nearly impossible to get let alone a refill of water. Dessert was ordered took 35 minutes to get it due to another backlog in the kitchen ( this was the excuse for all delays). The buffet which had been my favorite in the past, we nearly emptied aside for a large bowl of lettuce and olives. There was no rice or beans my attempts to alert the staff were met with a very rude response. This is a pricey dinner for most people to go out for, as such you expect to be treated with kindness and have a wonderful time while enjoying a great meal in a lovely setting. That was my experience in the past it is not my experience with this visit It is a shame we will not be back to this location.

Top drawer experience!

By OnAir66308207115 |

We wanted to have a special lunch out, couldn't have picked a better place! Great service, food was awesome and we were happy to try the full Gaucho carved selections, without over doing it! Favorite cuts were the bottom sirloin and the filet mignon. Be careful about agreeing to an 'add on', tho, I misunderstood and agreed to the shrimp cocktai - and tho it was nice, didn't need it, for an additional 26 bucks! Enjoy your experience here, next time you have an opportunity!

Fogo de Chao in pandemic

By 73lindapdx |

We arrived at the time of our reservation. This is normally a family favorite, we have been getting take-out during the pandemic, no question that the food is very good. However we were shocked to discover that there are no pandemic safety restrictions at this time. Tables appeared to be even closer together than usual, the restaurant was packed with diners, many large groups, masks only worn at the buffet in the center of the space and before being seated. No vaccine requirement. In the bar waiting area people were elbow to elbow, no distancing. When I asked a hostess about this, she responded rudely. We left of course. This could not have been better planned for a super spreader event, considering the new variant already in Oregon.

WONDERFUL evening - staff and Robert the manager were very professional, helpful & friendly

By Patrick R |

After reading some bonehead reviews I was very skeptical about several phases of the event I was about to undertake. While waiting a short time (15 min.) for our table I had a beverage at the upstairs bar and enjoyed watching a multitude of ethnicities and cultures come in. Only in a downtown setting such as Portland can one experience this environment. We were satisfactorily waited on by Celine and helped through the process with patients. Both the salad bar and the food itself were plentiful and delicious. Robert the manager came to our table for a brief chat with us. The price for the whole experience was within reason but if want the same old routine for cheap I think you might enjoy Denny's on Hayden Island.

A carnivore's paradise

Our daughters took us for New Year's Eve. We had reservations, which are a must. This was our first experience at a Brazilian restaurant and it did not disappoint. Our server was excellent & very attentive. Although quite busy, he quickly & cheerfully responded to every need. Being New Year's Eve, it was crowded, of course, but things moved smoothly. We waited at the bar, had some drinks, & were seated in 10 minutes. A plethora of meat for a variety of tastes. I loved the steak wrapped in bacon and the cheese, too. The salad bar was an experience in itself with many offerings, including absolutely delicious bacon. The atmosphere was nice and cheerful; the staff, servers, & bartenders were great. While we didn't have to pay for it, I saw the bill; and yes, it's expensive. But for the occasion you can easily pay that or more for a quality dining experience, & this was. I would definitely go back.

Second time just as good as the first

A party of 10 of us went to Fogo to celebrate a birthday. We had been there only once before and were looking forward to driving home with the meat sweats yet again. They did not disappoint! The food was fantastically flavored and cooked. steaming hot right to your table. The price is steep, but it's worth it. I can think of nowhere else in town to get this experience, but you will end up paying for it. The servers were kind and friendly, the food was fantastic and none of us left wanting or hungry. Looking forward to round three!

Lots of Lamb!

By DrJCool65 |

March 1st began Portland dining month. For $39. we had access to the huge salad bar and slices of different meats. The usual cost is $89.50. Forgot that I ordered a bloody Mary from the bar while we were waiting for our table to be ready. You need reservations for sure. The place was packed on a Sunday evening. I love lamb and the guy who had that on his large skewer kept coming back with more. I tried leg of lamb too, but didn't like it as well. The steak selections were awesome and you could pick the way you preferred the meat cooked. The mashed potatoes and cheesy biscuits were to die for. They also brought out plantains. I liked the beet chunks and apple salad at the buffet and there were so many items it was difficult to choose. At your place you have a small card, green on one side and red on the other. If you want them to stop by your plate, you keep the green side up. You have little tongs to hold on to the meat pieces that you transfer to your plate. Did I mention that there was lamb. I know I could never afford to purchase the amount of lamb I ate. I would go back in a heartbeat. They have 100 locations all over the country and the world. You've got to do this dining experience. Don't forget to try the lamb!

Not a fan

By Sydney N |

I don't know why I have come back here. Unless you sit by the kitchen, you get barely any steak and still pay the full price. If you do get steak you are waiting forever. Be prepared to spend at least 2 hours here if you aren't just doing the salad bar. Your drinks will take at least a half hour to come, or they won't come at all. If the manager feels bad, you get a coupon that barely lasts before it expires. I have also had managers refuse to honor my coupon, or give me an expired coupon.

Delicious and better than anticipated

Recently on Tripadvisor Fogo De Chao has had some negative reviews. I was apprehensive of visiting because A) I had never been before, but also B) because of all the recent bad reviews. I had multiple people tell me that this place was fantastic and that I should try it, so I went out on a limb. I'm glad I did - this place was great. Yes, I am sure that COVID has changed the way that this business has been run. Most appetizers were at the buffet line and required us to serve ourselves, but I can understand this. I was actually delighted with the appetizers. Many reviews said that very few gauchos came by so they were not able to try enough meat - man when I had my green side up on my card, we were getting so many people offering us different types of meat we eventually changed them over just so we could catch up eating! We tried so many different pieces of meet. I loved the bacon wrapped sirloin and my partner loved the lamb. They also will serve bread, fried bananas, and mashed potatoes at the table for you. Everything tasted amazing and fresh and we were absolutely stuffed by the evening. We felt the gauchos and other waiters/waitresses were attentive and helpful, and I was fully satisfied by the experience. The desserts we got were also amazing (creme bruelee and cheesecake) and they served creme brulee on the house for my partner's birthday, and even decorated the plate to say Happy Birthday on it. Overall I am extremely impressed, I had a great time, and I would return.

An avalanche of steaks...

By JWG_080353 |

This is a pricy restaurant that turned out to work according to the "all you can eat" formula. In it's middle, a large salad bar is available for all dining guests. Following the "salad phase" of your dinner, you'll sit down again and you won't have to wait long before waiters are following up each other at a high rate with varying different cuts of beef, each at a time. For me, it went far too quick. You'll be handed a fiche with a green side (please serve), and a red side on its backside (please skip me). Wines are good, but pricy.

Disappointing!

I never write reviews, but this had to be my exception. I went to Fogo de Chao in Downtown Portland on Saturday evening, January 21, 2023. I had a 7:30pm reservation for two and arrived to a crowded entryway with 30-40 others who were also waiting to be seated from their reservation. We waiting for 34 minutes before being seated. Once we were taken to our table, our table host said, "Sorry for the wait, it's my third day and from what I have been told, it's always like a sardine can up there. They warned me about it, so if you have a reservation, especially on a Saturday, don't even bother showing up on time." One would have thought that this would have been a clue that the experience would be bad, but we just laughed and felt grateful to be seated. It took another 10 minutes to get a wine list, but no one returned to take drink orders until we were already eating our salads. We had waited for a while, but decided to visit the salad bar; and given that it was busy, we turned our meat cards face up to signal that we wanted to be served. We finally received lamb and then sirloin, but other meat options seemed mysteriously absent from the side of the restaurant where we were seated. Our server finally returned with drinks and asked if we were getting served meat fast enough. We said that only a couple of carvers had come by. This helped, but it was only the sirloin and sausage carvers that stopped by more than once. No chicken, ribeye or pork ever made it to our table. The filet carver stopped by once. Our server stopped by again and said, "Do you need anything else from me?" REALLY? This is how you address your patrons? We decided to give up on being served meat and ordered dessert and a Spanish Coffee. When the server returned with the coffee, she sat it on the side of the table asked if we wanted her to take our dirty plates. We said yes and she began stacking the plates over our table and dropped food scraps into the coffee. She laughed and said, "Oops! I'll get you another coffee." We laughed with her and said, "no problem." She returned with coffee and dessert and we finished. Our bill was just over $181 and we happened to have two $100 promotional gift cards. We put the cards in the folder and away she went. When she returned, she put the ticket down and said, "I don't know why, but my manager said you can only use $150 on these cards, so one of them still has $50 on it. You'll need to pay for the rest." We did give her a credit card to pay for the rest, but sat at our table in shock. We joked that we should tell the server to split the check and we would each pay with our own $100 gift card or maybe just leave the remaining $50 card for the server as a tip. We both worked in food service during our youth and realize how tough it can be. Ultimately, we paid the remaining $40 and even left another $40 for the horrible server. We should have also left the remaining $50 gift card, because it is unlikely that we would ever return.

I surprised my son for his 42nd birthday here. I love Brazilian steak houses. This is one of the best I have ever been to, in or outside of Brazil. Their Picanha, my favorite cut of beef, was excellent, and their cold cut bar was well stocked with delicious delicacies. Have a guaraná or Caparinha to drink to fill out your Brazilian experience!

Very good Churrasco - Service was poor

By Newbie_Vacationer |

Fogo de Chao in Portland is pretty decent. I would rate this location better than the one in Las Vegas on Flamingo Rd, but not as good as the one in Bellevue. The meats here are pretty decent. However, they are saltier than in Bellevue. Not sure why they sprinkle large chunks of salt on the meats. There were numerous times where a piece of salt was lodged in my teeth. The server allowed us to put in table orders which was good. Otherwise, it would have taken a while to get the meats that we wanted. It was during the Portland Rose Parade and the restaurant was packed. The service started out very nicely. However, near the end our waiter disappeared to another part of the restaurant. It took us a good part of 30 minutes to flag down a waiter for the bill. At that time, the restaurant was only half full.

Disappointed this time.

By fpd4308 |

This has always been one of our favorite places in the past, but they let me down this time. To start I made a reservation for 6:30 several days prior. I arrived about 6:25 and had to stand in a line for about 10 minutes just to check in. The hostess said they would text me when our table was ready. After waiting 30 minutes, at 7:00, I fought through the crowd and asked the hostess when our table would be ready and she again said they would text me when the table was ready. I politely asked what the point of getting a reservation was if they were not going to have a table ready and she said, "sorry, sometimes this just happens". Finally at 7:15, as I was on my phone making a reservation at another nearby restaurant I get the text message and before I can reply some usher is repeatedly shouting my name across the crowd. Once I fight my way through the crowd we are seated. They food was okay. I wouldn't say bad but probably not 60 dollars a plate good. I noted that the candied bacon, one of our favorite items, has changed. It went from thick sliced and very well candied to what my wife thought looked like that thin pre-cooked microwave bacon you would buy at safeway. We were served drinks shortly after sitting down and then never again. After the meal, we ordered dessert and waited....and waited...and waited...finally after about 30 minutes we flagged down our server and told him to cancel the dessert we would just take the check. He was polite and apologetic, unlike the hostess that started our dining experience. We then waited about 15 minutes for our check but the server did bring our desserts with the check and to his credit comped them. Throughout our meal there were times the restaurant was busy and times they had open tables but they constantly acted as though they were swamped. We really didn't intend to make this meal a 3 hour ordeal and were unable to go to the other destinations, downtown, we had intended to go to because of it. Had we had theater tickets, or something like that, we would have never made it. I understand being busy but one would think that a restraunt of this size would have a plan in place for busy days and not just cramming 50 people into their small foyer while they wait 45 minutes to be seated for a reservation. It is unfortunate as we have been here several times and have not had a bad experience. I would recommend the other Brazilian restaurant in town as they are always delicious and have had no problem seating my group, sometimes up to 10, at the time I reserved.

Very arrogant customer service

By Katelyn Shi |

So my family came here for a dinner and the hostess and our waitress were so arrogant. I wish I got their names but they didn’t have name tags! Ny parents had a language barrier and some questions, but none of the staff cared to patiently answer our questions. We had a question about the drinks and our waitress rolled her eyes. Their arrogant attitudes confuses me because aren’t they the people working customer service?? I hope this restaurant teaches their staff to be kind to everyone regardless of their outer appearances. Besides that, the foods alright.

Great service!

The Real Brazilian restaurant

By Dick L |

Having lived in Brazil I have visited many Brazilian steakhouses (not call that there) including Fogo de Chao. The one in Portland is very authentic, with some local adaptations. The place was absolutely packed with people standing outside waiting for tables. Our reservation was for 6:30 PM and we arrived on time. After a few minutes we were escorted to our table amid many others and near the wonderful salad bar area. Our waitress explained the routine, brought our pao de queso and other side dishes and our drinks. The meat just kept coming while our indicators were on green, but quickly on red! Our 10 year old was dazzled and quickly full but enjoyed every minute or our 2 hour dinner! When we left, very full, we saw the line awaiting entry that stretched around the corner!!

Don't waste your money

By Ellen B |

Meat was sooooo salty I couldn't even eat the ribs! Slow service so our potatoes and chimichurri sauce didn't even get to table. Water glasses didn't get refilled and they kept trying to upsell you.. Not pretty! It cost over 300 for lunch for 4. Don't waste your hard earned money. Also entry to restaurant was old and carpets were dirty. Sad to give this review.

So much food

By Blaine A |

Fogo has so many options from which to choose. The salad bar is way beyond any salad bar you have ever seen. Then the cuts of meat keep coming and coming. I thought the vegetables were not plentiful nor were they warm. The service was inconsistent sometimes too much and then nothing. The desserts were lovely and delicious. If you order the Chilean sea bass, you have to special order that.

Amazing food, amazing service.

Not up to former standard

By DKL317 |

We made a reservation for a family birthday party (of 5) but that didn’t mean much. Even so, though we arrived on time, we had to wait over half an hour for a table. Once seated we had no water for fifteen minutes or water glasses. The Market Table selection was lovely as usual but it’s good none of us wanted soup or beans because no bowls were available. Several of the meat cuts were delicious (succulent beef rib and flavorful picaña in particular), but others were tasteless and served with large chunks of gristle. Though we had opted for the “full experience” we saw the same few cuts repeatedly and to ask for others. Also we were only served two of the three standard side dishes. At the end of the meal, the birthday dessert was served automatically without giving a choice to the recipient. Next family event we’ll be going a few blocks further to Brazil Grill.

Where's The Beef?

By backroadrider |

Salad bar - amazing! Staff - warm and friendly! Food delivery - awful on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 - 6:45 seating. Never did figure out the problem, but in spite of our repeated requests -- and the requests of other tables nearby to us -- the beef/lamb servers were nearly nonexistent. What might have been an 1 1/2 hour experience, got stretched to 3 hours as we waited and waited and waited, and made repeated inquiries about beef and lamb service. Certainly left the impression that the place had purposely decided to limit the beef/lamb service/meat (even chicken was hard to come by but at least there was some) to Portland Dining Month guests. And with no individual server responsible for our table -- their serving style -- it left us (and nearby guests at other tables that we got to know because of the experience) without a single point of contact. Because the staff is warm and friendly -- just unable to deliver -- we came away feeling that maybe a change of management is in order lest this Fogo continue on a downward slide.

MUCHO AMO !

Fogo De Chao continues to be THEE BEST lunch and dinner spot in Portland, OR. This establishment has always went above and beyond for my family, friends, coworkers and I. The food here is excellent, the servers have the utmost respect for the customers, the chefs who prepare and cook the meats are perfectionist. If there has ever been a time where we needed the meat cooked differently or something was wrong, they made sure to take care of it right away and make it up to us customers. Robert is the main manager here and he is literally THE MAN. You can see the amount of love and respect his staff have for him and it’s clear why. No matter how busy he is managing the restaurant, he is always checking in with families making sure everything food wise, customer service wise, etc is beyond exceptional. Today we had a new server, his name was Sebastian and he was such a kind gentle young man. Been here quiet a few times and I have to say, Sebastian has been one of my favorites, ever. I asked robert how long he’s worked here and he said he’s been here for a year and he’s 15. I was blown away. This young man is 15 and serving and waiting better than 90% of the service industry, much of who are in their 30 or 40’s. Robert thank you so much for having us, it’s always a pleasure to see you and your amazing staff here. -Breyden E

Not worth $58 too much waiting

By BackPacker822241 |

Took my mother to the "Easter Brunch" which was priced out at $58/person. The salad bar and service was adequate. I was surprised how infrequently the meat delivery servers came by. I literally had to flag servers down and I got the distinct impression that they were rationing the meat and the meat servers were not frequenting certain parts of the restaurants, as much as others. I was in the restaurant for 90 minutes and I think the meat servers stopped by 4 times. That's a lot of waiting around. I realized that it's the "pandemic" can impact the expediency of service, but I quite honestly got tired of waiting around for the next morsel. Maybe even distribute meat servers to every section of the restaurant and don't let them randomly roam around and miss customers over and over again. I don't know what happened to the green and red flip cards. Maybe bring back that system - that seem to work better. I just witness a lot servers walking and roaming around with zero accountability, leaving a lot of hungry customers. Please put a better serving system in place.

Fogo Portland

The food and experience are fantastic. The downside is price. With tip just over a hundred for meal and a drink for two at lunch. Great food and service. Appetizer salad bar was outstanding. Sides are served at the table. Extremely attentive service staff. We’ll be back.

Let them eat Salad (bar)!

By 912johannac |

You don't have to eat steak or meat to have a wonderful meal here. Their salad bar is extensive. And comes with wonderful rice and beans. Mashed potatoes, cheese rolls, polenta and fried plantains are brought to the table. It's a bit pricey. $30 for the salad bar. My vegan friend and I had a lovely meal here, along with a Wednesday night, half-price bottle of organic wine. We would both return. Any time. Nice for a pre-Keller auditorium dinner.

Very good food and service.

By OregonCountry |

I don't often give out a score of 5, unless a place is the best I've had at what they serve. That is the case with Fogo De Chao. I took my wife here for her birthday dinner. Ok, I signed her up for the birthday club online first, and got a $25 off coupon. But she was none the wiser. The location is right around the corner from the Regal Fox Tower cinema, so it's perfect for dinner and a movie on a special date night. I've been to several of these "Brazilian steak house" themed restaurants, but this place has got it down. The salad bar was excellent, and the meat was equally as good. The wait staff are very attentive and friendly, with one young man stopping and chatting with my wife for several minutes, which made her feel welcome. Just remember, you can ask for whatever kind of meat you want, so don't fill up on chicken or sausage or pepper steak. Ask for Tenderloin or Filet Mignon, and they'll bring it to you! Dinner here is expensive, so plan on spending about $60+ per person with tip (better get that coupon). We didn't try any dessert, so I can't speak to that. But overall, the experience was excellent. We can't wait to go back!

Poor Value, Bad Service

By Llilith |

I was very disappointed in the service and value. First, the Portland Dining Month special excluded their top cuts of meat. We each went ahead and did the regular $52 meal so we could have some rib eye and tenderloin. For that $20 additional per person, we each got one tiny serving of each of those cuts. Literally 2 bites of each. They sure did bring the lesser quality sirloin and chicken to our table often though. We only got served sides once. The "sides" consisted of less than a cup of mashed potatoes and three pieces of polenta, and three caramelized bananas (for a table of four!). We had to ask for more bread, repeatedly. For "all you can eat" they sure are stingy. It's not like you can help yourself to those things - they are each brought by different servers, so there is no continuity at your table, no one keeping track of what you might need - you are simply at the mercy of who brings what and when. The servers come and go so quickly with no regard for what else you might need - they are just focused on what type of meat they are delivering. The second helping of bread I requested for the table didn't arrive until our party was finished eating. I was not allowed to take it to go, since that is against their policy. It seems like they want it both ways, the price and rules of all you can eat, with the smaller portion and high price of a high end restaurant. We won't be back.

Meat and more meat, but go with a crowd

By Mark D |

I was in town for business. I knew I wanted to try one of these places and I was hungry and hadn't eaten that day. Lesson one: don't fall for the carb treats thrown at you early. Lesson two: the buffet bar is nice and well stocked, it too can be a food trap. Lesson three: start slow. Lesson four: Help the servers by taking your tongs and grabbing a piece of the meat as they cut it away. Lesson five : Hydrate, and not just on alcohol. Lesson six: re-read lesson three. Some cuts kept coming around and others you might have to ask for. Lesson seven: Don't go too early or too late, let the meat skewers get going and others to be at dinner as well, then they will bring out different things. Final lesson: You will be full. Its not cheap but it is fun and would be more fun if you are with a bigger crowd.

Bring on the meat

By stflyer2002 |

Great meal. Might be hard for people who like their meat well done. Most cuts a are medium to medium rare. Most flavorful tender meat I have ever had. Some interesting selections at the salad bar. I would recommend going for brunch it’s a little cheaper.

Experience of a lifetime!

By Ron L |

The best dinner I have had in my life! Go for the Lamb sirloin until you can’t move anymore. It was delicious bordering the ridiculous! Also left a hefty tip for the well deserving staff.

I'll give it 3 stars but..........

By Carl R |

We wanted this to be a special date for this 60 something couple. The meat, as you know, is brought to the table on skewers. A human can eat about the equivalent of one big steak but this a a selection of beef, chicken, sausages, and lamb. So it is about the same amount of protein, when all is said and done, as your average sizzler. There were also rolls, fried plantains, mashed potatoes. There is a huge serve-yourself salad bar. So there are servers running around, diners running around, and waiters running around. The scene on the floor was that of a slightly out of control cruise ship buffet. $51.00 per person. Without wine. Luckily we went during Portland dining month. Now what else could you by in Portland for $102.00 ? The answer is, almost anything, almost anywhere and certainly in a quieter and more serene environment. Bon appitit .

Enjoy Fogo de Chão... but Patience, Please! 😉

By GoodDealBob |

Fogo de Chão restaurant review February 2019 I do think this restaurant is deserving of a five out of five star rating— but it didn't start that way on a recent visit. I think the biggest issue encountered was upon arriving at their VERY busy reception/bar area — as it is very undersized for the level of business on a Saturday night. We waited about 40 minutes after our reservation time to be seated and that might make you think we got off to a poor start and you would be correct. But once we were seated, things turned around quickly for the better. This is not an inexpensive restaurant but I think it's probably one of the best values around if you are hungry and especially not a vegetarian on a diet. Although paradoxically my wife is a vegetarian and on a diet, and still had a great dining experience. *** To the prospective diner: My counsel to you as you read my review, is to avoid the congestion of a Saturday night, and consider a less busy night — both for you and the restaurant's sake. *** To the restaurant manager: We'll be back! But only because my party was particularly patient waiting elbow to elbow with at least 50 other people in your small waiting area. It is pretty clear to me (not being in the restaurant industry) how you could improve the experience: 1) You had at least four or five people covering reception, which seemed well covered. But I could see tables being turned over that took 10 or 15 minutes to turn them. Seems to me it should take one or two minutes. I would cross train some of the reception people to bus tables on busy nights so that tables turn around quicker... it’s cross training to reduce bottlenecks in your operation. 2) Hostesses wasted time and effort ‘shouting out’ names in the mass of waiting patrons ... either a PA system or LED-puck-style alert system would seem a solution. My final thought to fellow diners: You will need to be patient on a busy night at Fogo de Chão — but it pays off handsomely. 😋

Terrible

By Angela L |

went to Fogo De Chao for m 60th birthday, it was the worst "fine dining" experience I have ever had. I had been looking forward to it for a long time. when we arrived, five of us adults were seated at a table for four. we were so crammed that we had to keep our arms tucked in while eating, and the person sitting in the middle could not get up unless the outside person got up. The tables were so close together, that the table behind us had a stroller and we literally had to turn sideways to get up. Of all of the steaks, only one was edible, the rest were either all fat or tough. the only real edible meat was chicken....at a steakhouse. we asked four waitstaff, five separate times for salt. Our water was not refilled once, one waitress would literally "toss" meat to the people on the other side of the table as opposed to walking around and serving them. several times we had to wait 10-15 minutes between being served more meat (yes our green cards were turned over) four out of five of us got sick the same night. $500.00 for such an awful experience is an expensive lesson. needless to say we will not return, nor will we recommend it to anyone.

Brazilian beef

By rologo |

Great concept, great execution, you have to be a very hungry, big, meateater to enjoy , and get your money worth. Make sure you are hungry, but eat, start slow. The marketplace(salad bar), I very good. Lots of variety. Try the official Brazilian drink, it is tasty, and expensive. It is not a cheap dinner. I had the filet, it was fabulous! The servers were very friendly, and informative.

great service and food

as always Fogo has a wonderful staff and food is delicious ---- we return every year and never a disappointment

Worth a visit

By Drtpaper |

I have been to Brazil and this compares nicely to the better places in Brazil. Meat is of better quality but side dish selection is smaller. Most Brazilian places come with a full complement of deserts. Overall price was a little high but not unreasonable. Beef selections were great, pork was very good, ribs were overdone, and lamb was not seasoned to my taste. Favorites were the ribeye and sirloin. Market table was of superior quality. Cheeses and meat selections on market table were top notch, salads were great. Service was excellent and meat comes to your table frequently - but we were seated next to the meat in/out door. Drinks were a little pricey but very good Caipirinha for the US. Does not quite measure up to Brazil version - they use a lot more sugar. Had the papaya creme for desert - it was better than the Brazilian versions - 1 is enough to share for two people. One nice thing - Wednesday is wine day - they provide a list of discounted bottles of wine and they are a very good bargain.

Not the same as the other two locations I have been to in Denver and Atlanta.

By ricardoW6796CG |

My experience started out badly when I asked for a table for one. I asked for a different table away from the middle. The hostess copped an attitude and became rude. She left me standing by the table and muttered something before walking away. She reappeared and threw a table cloth on a small table without saying a word to me. I assumed it was for me so I walked over to it. She actually glared at me and walked away. I informed the waitress who came over to my table and asked her to convey my complaint to the manager. I noticed during my meal a different waitress started helping me and I thought she was helping the other wait person, but saw the first waitress getting into a cab/Uber as I was leaving the restaurant. It would have been nice to know your wait person is leaving. I don't know if she informed the manager as I had requested. I had my card on green, but got passed over by most of the servers. I had to call them over as they went by. I stayed because the service at the other two locations had always been good. After I paid my bill, the young man who brought the tablet returned and gave me the wrong receipt. I noticed after I got back to my hotel room. I returned and asked for the correct receipt and it took quite a while to get the correct receipt. I know I will not return to the Portland location. I did not give this location any high ratings as all areas are tied in and led to a fair to poor experience.

Great salad bar and brazilian bbq

By RenYVR |

We went to Fogo during Portland's dining month and had the choice of the $33 dining month special or the "full' experience (difference was the inclusion of six premium meats). We chose the dining month special since we aren't big meat eaters. Service was very good from start to finish and from our server to the guys serving the meats. The salad bar had a lot of variety - different types of salads, smoked salmon, assortment of meat and cheeses, and even a nice soup. Once you flip on the green coaster, the meat starting coming quickly. I would recommend sharing the individual meat portions between two people so that you can eat more different varieties of meat - we enjoyed the lamb the best. The salad bar has a few fruit items. Otherwise, dessert is not part of the meal. Our ten year old was charged half price for the meal.

Over rated

As other person mentioned about reservation、 we waited 45minutes to get seat even reservation was made. So you know if you wanna go there、 book it one hour before you actually want to be. Front host and waitless were good. A people who deliver meats to table were questionable. I don't think they trained them well. Their customer service is really poor. Who hiring those kids? Meats are either salty or no taste. Quality of meats are joke. If you want to eat meat、go to real place. Our meat boys come and go every 20 to 25 minutes which means you are eating more side dish than main dish. Paying $55 per person plus drinks are $13 and up. Deserts $10 and up. Our bill was almost $700 and they want us to pay for 20% gratuities????? Disappointed a big time.

Very busy - had booked a table - we arrived on time - short wait

By WNO2011 |

Restaurant was humming - great vibe - staff very attentive - meats above average quality done to perfection and the staff were quick to bring the next selection. The selection of side dishes and presentation was excellent. I felt the meal was worth every penny - I felt the wines were pricey. The wine prices brought the value down to a 4.

Overpriced for some meat varieties and a salad bar

By Tony B |

Got in, got seated, was never saw a menu and was strongly recommended the 'all-you-can-eat' meat and salad bar. Service was frenetic, saw our waitress twice. Meat comes in waves. Tender, well prepared but seasoned a little too salty. Never been a big fan of the 'churrascaria'-style eateries. Between the salad bar and sides, along with the time between meat distribution, you satiate quickly and never get your money's worth of the meal. On the plus side, they have a wide variety of caipirinhas and the Brazilian Gentlemen cocktail was excellent

Pricy and Average

By newyorker1953 |

I have eaten here 3-4 times in the last few years and I think the quality has gone downhill a bit. While still a good experience, the meats were average. Both types of chicken were over cooked. The red meats were either very well done or very rare, with no medium/medium rare to be had, even when I asked for it that way. The side dishes of bananas, cheese bread, etc while good when hot, were not good after they cooled off. Since they were delivered right after we sat down, they were cold by the time we had finished what we got from the salad bar. Drinks are pricy, $15 for a Bombay Safire and tonic. As with everything these days, the price for dinner has gone up, to $61. No more valet parking and they don’t validate. Parking available in the same building as the restaurant. On the plus side, free desert for the birthday boy and a 10% discount for the military veteran. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Not sure that I will be going back.

Birthday

By Sydny V |

We had a reservation at 6pm on Saturday but we arrived early at 5:10pm. It was a brief wait and we were served by Sylvie. She was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Because it was my birthday, we had a complimentary dessert. I’d picked the strawberry cheese cake, it was heavenly! The salad bar was awesome with many choices. My most favorite cut was the beef bottom loins. The service was awesome as always and I had a great dinner.

Meat the Flinstones

By PdxMarc |

Well, it is what it is. And what is it is meat. Lots of meat. Meat on skewers like some dinner in Game of Thrones. Chicken, lamb, steak, sausages, again and again. Flip your little cared green and they come to you; red and they give you time to digest. We went for dining month and you get most fo the deal but not the whole deal for $33. Boy did we make it pay. We did a very quick pass through the well appointed salad bar, and went for the meat, which we paired with a cabernet we brought ourselves (warning, ridiculously high $35 corkage in a town of $20-25 corkage fees) We were not warned that the shrimp cocktail was not included ($20, an understandable goof) or that dessert was not included (another $20 and very unexpected and unwelcome...all dining month meals everywhere else come with dessert) All that said...well... meat. So let's talk meat. This is one of the biggest dining rooms in Portland and given the format, they are trotting out huge amounts of food. As a result, some comes overcooked and some comes very very rare. I'd suggest simply putting anything not to your taste aside as it will be replaced in a moment. Ultimately it's hard to compare this with meals of comparable price. it's fairly unique. My son and I had fun and I would do it again. Just not very often, given I care about my waistline.

Pointless to make a reservation?

By Tom H |

My recent experience at Fogo de Chao was unfortunately not reflective of the otherwise positive reviews on here. To get the most fundamental failing out of the way: We arrived at 1915 for a 1930 reservation. We were finally seated at around 2030 after escalating a complaint to manager level. There were numerous other groups left waiting for similar amounts of time in the cramped bar area with expensive drinks and other furious patrons for company. To say this got our evening off to a frustrating start would be an understatement - the meal for us was a special occasion with family over from the UK and an infant left with an (obviously time-sensitive) babysitter at home. When we were eventually seated, in fairness the manager was extremely apologetic and offered a complimentary shrimp dish as a starter. This turned out to be unnecessary as the restaurant is essentially an 'all-you-can-eat' concept. There is little to complain about regarding the food and service hereafter if you're into this kind of thing: The various meats were served juicy, well-seasoned and at the desired doneness. I felt they would have benefited from some kind of dips/sauces (chimichurri or similar) but could not find this on the buffet. My other major gripe with the place (as has been referenced in previous reviews) is the (very) high cost. I felt that to get your money's worth you would have to eat a frankly obscene amount of steak (which some parties are no doubt doing). Mark-up on drinks, starters and desserts is also high. I left feeling very bad that my sister and her partner had essentially been stressed out and ripped off for what was supposed to be a special treat for us. In short, if you're looking for an upscale dining experience in Portland that honours time-sensitive reservations, please consider going to one of the many fine independent eateries in town instead.

Have an apetite for the best

By Charlie 3 2 |

Excellent meal. The servers brought by many different cuts of meats. Every one was nothing short of excellent! The salad bar was like no other salad bar I have ever been to. This isn't somewhere you go to dinner every day, but for special occasions this is an excellent experience in fine dining

Delightful experience

By cardoncar |

If you've never done this before,,,now is the time. A great place for romance or to take groups or people you don't know very well as you'll have a lot to talk about as you experience this dining adventure.

More meat than you can eat...

Lovely dining room, great staff and amazing food. Bring your wallet and your appetite. A unique dining experience.

Huge disappointment

By Daniel W |

Bought a gift certificate worth over $100 for a Christmas present. After almost a year of most being shut down because the Covid. They will not honor the gift certificate. I purchase five or six of these a year for friends & clients. I will never drop a dime in there again.

Great buffet

By Victoria |

They have the best buffet ever omg. The meat is fantastic as well and the service is great. The cremebrule was seperated a bit and not the best texture. All three times I have been here service has been great. Last night we asked for horseradish and the young lady came back and said they were out with a little attitude. We asked another person and immediately had some so that was a little annoying. All in all it really is a great time and great food.

Too Busy For Customers !!

By Beverly S |

me an my spouse decided to bring in new years here it has a nice setting was also super busy we had got the full experience meat started coming to the table but it seemed like we got one taste of each and that was it the end then we had to stop somebody for it seemed like everything more cheese and that never arrived and desert that took forever i really dont feel like it was a full experience at all especially for the price most likely will chose a different place to celebrate something special

Good Food, Busy Place

By Tacomataster |

Good food but very busy atmosphere. I made reservations just out of habit and ended up needing them and still waited 15 minutes on a Sunday night. Standing room only in the bar and no empty tables in sight. Nothing wrong with that except sides and salads are self-serve, so there was a bit of mayhem from discourteous customers wedging their way forward like it was the last salad of their lives. The crowd was an unusual mix of singles out with friends, or so it appeared, and families with children. The sides were good and there was quite a variety. The main attraction was the roasted meat served from skewers by wandering and very attentive staff. Only had one out of five that was subpar. Creative cocktails and lovely desserts, but altogether a bit of a factory feel.

Barbecue as in Brazil

By fred_ulm |

Barbecue as done in south Brazil. Having also a bit of other brazilian specialities as Pao de queijo, feijoada farofa... Tasteful and juicy meat!

Thinking Fogo? Just go!

By Kevin O. |

Such a great atmosphere and constantly flowing perfectly cooked meats as long as you stay. Salad bar is huge the rolls they bring are fabulous. Sometimes you have to ask for water or rolls; service is usually tops but can be spotty. Try it you'll like it.

Fogo is a masterpiece, 10/10.

By breyden errett |

Yet another amazing night at Fogo De Chao! I love introducing my family and friends to this establishment. The staff is beyond phenomenal, each and every time. Our waitress Samantha was absolutely wonderful. Very patient and kind, funny as well. Robert, one of the managers at Fogo is an absolute legend. Robert makes each of our visit’s unforgettable. Thank you, Robert.

Good experience

By hirdyone |

It was a nice way to have the meat delivered for enjoying. Some of the cuts weren't as good as I expected but others were mouth watering and cooked to perfection. Services to the table was a bit hot and miss depending on which individual was attending.

Always a Treat!

We came for a birthday celebration and as always were treated like royalty! We brought 3 guests who hadn’t been there before and the experience was amazing. The food was fresh and plentiful and the service was second to none! Can’t wait for next time!

Eat Your Heart Out!

By richard g |

What a great restaurant to be with family and friends, especially if you are a meat eater (yes, there are plenty of choices for those who prefer non meat dishes). I don’t think I have ever seen the grandkids eat so much and they clearly loved the food choices and the ambiance. Staff was very accommodating

All about the meat!

By AmberAshleyMom |

This is a dining experience that everyone should at least try once. The food is delicious and they offer such a variety that unless you are a vegetarian, you will find multiple items that are your favorite. They come to your table with various cuts of meats on a scewer hot off the flame and ask you if you would like a slice. They will continue to approach your table until you turn your coaster over to say "No Thanks". They are more than happy to also bring you a special cut of your favorite meat if you only request. They also have a fabulous soup and salad bar available but who has room for that? Excellent Service! They treat you like you are the only table in a room full of people. Perfect for a special occasion or just because you want meat!

Delicious definitely worth it

By Aprile M |

Delicious definitely worth it came for my sons birthday today excellent service food was delicious wear elastic band pants tons of food delicious

Always a wonderful place to celebrate

By btreid |

Fogo de Chao made our son's birthday memorable! It was his 18th birthday and we asked for 2 tables, one for his friends and one for our family. Service was superb! We asked several servings of their caramelized banana and it was served with a smile every single time! The meat was excellent and as always filet mignon was the best. But my daughter said the lamb was the best she ever had! Also, the market table was full of great cheese, fruit, salad and even a fruit parfait (it was a Saturday brunch) The birthday dessert treat for our son was really good (flan). We ordered cheesecake and creme brulee for dessert. The creme brulee was overcooked though and asked the server to tell it to the chef. It taste like scrambled egg with sugar! But I'm still giving them 5 stars for the excellent service and food (minus the creme brulee). Highly recommended for special occasions.

Excellent service

I took my friend to lunch for her Birthday and everything was excellent. The service excels at this restaurant.

Amazing Dinmer

By deomsb |

The food was delicious. There was plenty of meat that arrived very frequently. Our waiter Scotty was great!

THE place for beef

By MindStorm |

Excellent salad bar, but Center Stage here is meat. The chicken was a bit dry, but all the beef was excellent. All you can eat, of half a dozen different cuts. One other reviewer commented that the waiter never explained the arrangement. That was true for us too, but we were with a couple that had eaten here multiple times before and they explained it for us. I must agree that the waiter staff should spend a minute explaining that at the outset, since it is otherwise confusing.

Disappointing Birthday Dinner

By mbmoser |

Came for my birthday. As always the food was outstanding. So why the not so great rating: 1. Service was pretty disappointing. Our waiter was none existent. Had questions but he was never available including when it was time to pay. 2. The flow of food was out of whack. We would have the same meat come by multiple times but never had chicken, bacon wrapped filet (even after we asked for it) our lamb chops come by our table. At $50 a person my expectations fell short and my family and I left disappointed and frustrated with the experience.

Good meat but not honest

By Guillaume |

We have been there for the dinning month on March for the past three years. Meat is very good, but one very expensive and they do not hesitate to charge you an automatic 18% tips for a table of 4, which is highly annoying. A beautiful artisanal ham was on the buffet, but the slices on its side were clearly supermarket level and the waiter lied about it. And there was a huge chewing gum stuck on my chair.

Nice meat

By Francesco L |

Very good place. Meat good quality. Nice service. Location well positioned. With family for business or friend is a suggested place.

Excellent!

By Allan S |

Great food, service, and price during Portland's Dining Month. Salad bar can't be beat. The meat choices are mind-boggling.

Meat Lover's Paradise

By LynnElsdon |

This is a great place, if you would like to eat a variety of meats at one meal. Servers walk around amongst the dining tables at the restaurant - with large skewers of Lamb, Beef, Pork or Chicken (cooked to your liking), and carving knife in hand. They have ribs too. For those who prefer seafood, some choice items available as well (served specifically to your order). The extensive salad bar is phenomenal and offers many delicious dishes/items, which could serve as a top notch meal, all on its own. Next time, I plan to dine solely on the salad bar. They serve these yummy cheese rolls that are airy and light, kind of like a Yorkshire pudding, but more spongey. Oh my goodness, they are very good. Tip for ya! Only eat one or two so you have room for the other tasty things coming your way. This restaurant is a winner for big appetites. Also, a wonderful choice for a fun group dining experience.

Promises Promises

By John R |

Went to celebrate our son's new job. We arrived at 7:20 pm for a 7:30 pm reservation for 3. Off to the bar we went since they were waiting for tables to clear. 30 minutes later after prompting, we were led to a table next to the salad bar. Apologies, not a one. We listened to the instructions on how to get meat delivered (Why don't these places ever ask if we've eaten at places like this to save us the time?). We waited a while before the real waiter showed up, actually we had been to the salad bar and come back, say 10 minutes. The salad bar, well, it's a higher end thing, but part of the experience, so not that "amazing". More sliced charcuterie, perhaps, but what one might expect at these prices. The meats were hard to come by if you wanted something other than sirloin this or sirloin that. There was a variety and I did enjoy the parmesean pork, the rare ribeye (when they would come by), and the lamb chops. Other than that it was a fairly constant parade of the same meat. When we asked for something in particular, it took a while for it to come by. The place is loud and, people being people, just talked louder to get over the din. This was especially true in the bar, but happened in the restaurant too. I thought the service perfunctory. I didn't care for the bait and switch that they tried with the shrimp. It's an ala carte item and they fail to tell you that up front. I also got bait and switch from the manager when he came by to apologize for the long wait. He said "how sorry" he was, so I called him on it and asked "how sorry." He was so sorry that he gave us not one, but two, gift cards for 20% off the Brazilian Brunch. Problem is that the cards expired on October 14, 2018, only 1 month away. Gee, after dropping $300 bills and not being that impressed, I can come back 1 month later and get 20% off what I believe to be an overpriced meal - I think not. What's good? The bartenders are great. The better cuts of meat are good and the pork seemed to be cooked appropriately without asking. Is it worth it, I don't think so. Should you go? If you've not been to a Brazilian Steakhouse, go at lunch, it's cheaper. Will I go back? Only if they apologize for the cynical behavior and comp me two lunches or someone else is paying.

Amazing Brazilian food!

By Michelle S |

This restaurant isn’t your typical restaurant. You are given a disc that is red on one side and green on the other. When it’s green the gauchos will come by with some meat that they slice off and put on your plate. They have beef, pork, lamb, and chicken with a variety of seasonings. They also have a huge salad bar that is more than just salad. They have cheeses and cold sliced meats. The bacon there was the best I have ever had, it was cooked in maple syrup and fresh black pepper. You definitely want to go there hungry because it’s all you can eat. We all had an amazing time. Some of the group saved room for dessert. The desserts looked and tasted amazing. This is definitely a restaurant everyone should experience at least once in their life. I know we’ll be going back.

Simply Awful

By Moulton Avery |

Downtown Portland’s Fogo de Chao delivered the most disappointing restaurant experiences I’ve had since moving here a year and a hald ago. We arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation, and had plenty of time to view the chaos as we stood for over an hour in Fogo’s small, crowded bar, nursing our overpriced drinks. What’s the point of reservations if a restaurant takes so many walk-ins that they can’t seat reserved guests? At one hour, I suppose we were the fortunate ones; several fellow diners we met had been waiting almost twice as long. Fogo bills itself as a Brazilian dining experience. It was noisy, crowded, and hectic with poor, intrusive service and truly mediocre food. Absolutely nothing about the experience was worth repeating and nothing was comped. Our waiter suggested that we return for lunch sometime because our experience would be better. No chance that’s ever going to happen. In conclusion, Fogo is long on both hype and price and very short on quality and service. I don’t recommend it to anyone.

Amazing!

By grammysis |

At first thought the price seemed high, second thought? So worth it!! great food, mouth watering meats, all the staff was very attentive never felt hurried or rushed. I recommend this restaurant to everyone! Special occasion? Fogo de Chao is the place to celebrate!!

Not quite all you can eat!

By jjrodusa |

We had reservations for 12:45 we dropped the wives off so we could park the car. They were seated right away . The guys came in 5mins later and then we were ignored for to long so we had to ask to take our order for drinks. Things started and meat started coming to to the table until we got one taste of each and that was it. We had to stop somebody for a little more cheese and honey didn't get it. Had to stop somebody to ask for drink we had to stop somebody to ask for desert. Then we had to stop somebody to get the bill, then they didn't know how to prosses a gift card. The food was outstanding for what we got and the staff was nice just not attentive at all! Not sure if we will go back!!

Amazing dining experience

By Whitney K |

What an amazing experience! Hubby and I went for our first time, on a random date night. We arrived about 45 minutes early for our reservation. We got a drink from the bar and sat in the covered seating to wait. We had to ask for the heaters to be lit, but that’s understandable based on the downtown location. Not sure when we got called back, but it wasn’t a full 45 minute wait. We only had one drink while waiting. The servers and attendants were amazing. We each had the Fogo Churrasco Experience. All of the meats were great, the potatoes were DELICIOUS, and the bottom sirloin made me forget my name. I don’t even eat red meat that often! There was an impeccably dressed man with beautiful dreads that interacted with every table - HE WAS AMAZING. I don’t know what his title or name is, but he made the experience that much better. We will definitely be back!

Best Part of Crazy Portlalnd

By Dick L |

Walking through deserted downtown Portland streets on a Friday night toward Fogo de Chao was an eerie experience, with plywood covers over all windows and doors, graffiti on many of them, black paint on others. But entering the restaurant through the protective doors was like another world! Masked faces on all staff, tables nicely spaced, the large salad bar still there (my favorite) and excellent service like always! Their service is always great, and having eaten in the original Fogo de Chao in Sao Paulo on several occasions, I can attest to the authenticity of it all. This is a great place for Portlanders to experience, although a bit pricey for some. I highly recommend it!

Great service

By Maria T |

This place is top notch. Perfect date night, out with friends or out with family. Robert worked around the clock to make our anniversary extra special. Will keep coming back for the service and the food.

Great place for a special occasion

By Ed S |

The salad bar is great. It was Capraihna Tuesday so they were $1 apiece. My fave meat selection is the beef rib and the bacon. But clearly the highlight of this trip was our server Sophia. Make sure and join Fogo rewards before your visit and scan the QR code on your bill.

Very slow service and poor cuts offered

By S M |

There were not enough staff offering meats. The ones walking around offered relatively poor selections. We asked for fillet mignon and waited 15 minutes before it arrived. At the same time, cheap meat including bottom sirloin and chicken were offered several times.

This is a high priced location and you would expect an amazing meal, which we did not get.

Disappointed

By npchrisb |

First time. Husbands b-day. Told the server we hadn't been there before, and wanted how it worked. All he told us was to turn out coaster to green to get the meat delivered.so we got our salads, began to eat and flagged down a "meat guy" it was not explained to us that we could ask for the type, cut, and how you wanted it cooked. So, we missed out on that. They did not show us any prices, my husband assumed the desserts were part of the meal, so ordered one (which they were not $10). Other tables got side dishes, we did not. Also ordered coffee and was charged for it, but did not get it. I was also told they would do something special for my husband's birthday but nothing ever happened. The table next to us got a full rundown of what to do. The server ruined our experience. An expensive mistake, which I wont repeat

Superb dining experience, top of the line food and service!

By LindaB636 |

This was my first time here and I don't recall a better dining experience in my life! Their market buffet is outstanding, carved at-the-table meats is mouth-watering fantastic and the servers and ambience of the restaurant get the highest stars there is! We were celebrating a birthday and the New York Cheesecake that was served was exceptional. I have not eaten at a Brazilian Steakhouse before, but believe me I will be back and I will bring friends! Loved it!

Great but Expensive

By Carolyn |

We had a party of 8 for my friends 40th birthday. We enjoyed the meal and the food was awesome. The problem was that there servers walking around with trays of coctails which were in very small plastic cups and we assumed they were free since most of the meal is brought around by the servers. They did not tell us they were an additional charge.. They looed like sample sized coctails. We felt misled by this and we had quite a hefty bill that was not expected. I'm sure most folks would assume they are free by the way it is presented. Don't now if we'll dine there again.

Disappointing

By Elizabeth J |

I was really looking forward to eating in a Fogo de Chao restaurant as I had heard about this chain from a work colleague . However , I found our visit disappointing . First of all we had to wait 20 minutes before we were seated at our table which we had booked; then we experienced a draft from a nearby exit ; the decor was dated and it was dirty . The room was very noisy . The salad bar was dull despite having lots of dishes as it was poor quality . Then our meal was constantly interrupted by our server who seemed over attentive . On the positive side , the meat which came round which was carved at the table was good quality and tasty . However I don’t think the price tag of $50 per head was value for money and the overall experience felt quite stressful and not what I’d choose again

Please don’t come until they fixed the issues. I Waited 1.5 hr to pickup food I ordered from doordash

By Zoe |

I always wanted to go to Fugo de chao after hearing it for years so I figure while in Portland, I can sample it via DoorDash. I ordered at 5, the app estimated pickup for 5:25, so I was killing time around the area and went in at 5:35. When I got there, the waitress said she would check my order and came back and said it will be 15 more min. 15 min went by, she checked again and said few more min. The next time she check, mostly because she feel bad of me standing there for so long, she said the kitchen never received the order (!!!) and I show up the app said otherwise. She went back and said they are now getting the order and apologized. It took me to be there for an whole hour to get my food that claimed to be ready at 5:25. And when I got the food back to hotel, the steak taste like cardboard and the broccoli is clearly not cook because it’s ice cold. I don’t usually write review but I feel like I need to for this extremely horrible experience due to issues that management could have address: 1) understaff. It is mentioned in other reviews and I know it’s hard to get staff but when you charge that much for indoor dining and there is a huge line of people who made reservations but didn’t get in until much later - this is one of the reason of my waiting so long is due to number of people in bar area. Hire people. Overstaff is better than understaff 2) train your employees on different situation. My situation could have been avoided if the waitress actually communicate better with the cook - like confirming the order is indeed my order and it is in progress - than for her realize after 3-4 trips in and 35 min later that the order was not “received”. 3) quality check on your cooks. Like I know I’m not ordering the extreme expensive order but I seriously doubt the difference when they can’t even get a simple steak right. And oh cold broccoli? I am not even sure I’m in a $$$ restaurant. This is a brand and one bad experience really tarnish the reputation 4) fix the middle door that can’t shut. I know they put chairs and signs but people can’t read and still open the door that can’t be closed on it’s own — result in a very cold atmosphere and annoying the bartenders (which who can blame them) while waiting for order or reservation. Like can’t you lock that middle doors once and for all? Or fix it or repair it? 5) be clear at communication. There is a lot of confusion between cook and waitress or the reservation rules with the waitress (like if you need them to be all at once then make the user know when they make the reservation!) 5)

Good food, average service, not worth the price

By ridiculousatlast |

PROS: carnivores' paradise; interesting selection on the salad bar; a fun change from a regular restaurant CONS: --service was very spotty; hostess was notably surly and aloof and not at all welcoming; we waited 20 minutes past our reservation time for a table for our party of 4; while the meat servers came around often, we were more than half-way through our meal by the time we got potatoes and about 90% done when they came by with polenta and roasted bananas; for such an expensive restaurant, service should be impeccable. --loud and busy; this is NOT the place for a quiet and sophisticated dinner; much more of a circus atmosphere UNACCEPTABLE (and is the reason I won't go back): at one point a server came up with a bowl of shrimp on ice and asked if we'd like it. Since the whole gimmick of the restaurant is servers bringing food to your table (meat, potatoes, rolls, polenta, etc.) this seemed normal and we happily said yes. Imagine our surprise when we got the bill and saw that those 5 large shrimp cost us $21.50! What?? There was absolutely no mention of that being an additional cost when it was given to us. I find that type of sneaky up-charging to be totally unacceptable. I won't go back to a place that tries to trick its customers in such a way. (One star removed for that action alone.) OVERALL: If you love meat, go. If you want to try something different, go. But to me it was totally not worth the cost--you can easily end up spending $300 for 4 people, and it me it's not nearly worth that.

Have to try the picaña

Great Food & Service

By derrickwg36 |

This is a good Fogo de Chao location. The staff were very helpful and courteous. Our waitress was Christina, she was very accommodating and patient. Initially, we had to wait on the good cuts of meats, but once we brought it to the staff member’s attention, it was remedied. This was a birthday dinner and I was made special by the staff.

Lots of tasty delights, but pricey for lunch!

By Bill H |

So we were rolling into Portland and coming in hungry and my better half really wanted to give this place a try. Finding parking and dealing with the downtown traffic/patterns left me a little flustered, but we made it. The staff at the front desk seemed a little off their game(even though we had reservations for lunch), but once we were seated the servers were on the ball. Good food and service, but the bill at the end left us a little shell shocked(the house beverage was crazy expensive/not worth the money). All in all, a good once in a while experience, but will seek those less expensive choices in the future.

Amazing fogo

Best food ever I recommend this place to everyone, I came with my friends to celebrate my birthday and it was amazing, be back soon

Birthday dinner

By Ed S |

The food was fine as is typical in this chain. Very crowded perhaps too much so. An extremely high number of staff beyond the meat servers. Many lacked a name tag or uniform. One of these folks grabbed my bill and credit card. Someone different returned it. This meal was to celebrate four December birthdays. As a birthday benefit each person gets a happy birthday flan. The server only wanted to provide two. Not up to the normal standards of this business.

Could be Better.

By JerryLeeGOTHONG |

When I first arrived, nobody was there. I waited a while to get to a table. But the 2 servers assigned to my table were so nice. Patrick and Brian. The experience could have been better since everyone were so nice until this lady who brings out the meat was so rude!!!! To pay $70 for my late lunch and be treated rudely by the person who’s suppose to give me what I want is not acceptable. I asked her to give me the least burnt meat since it’s too tough for me to chew. She rudely pulled the first burnt drumstick and dumped it on my plate. I got aggravated and informed her I won’t be eating it so she gave me the second one and took the first one away. It was still overcooked and ended up not eating it. My server asked me if there was any meat I wanted like pork ribs or beef ribs. I asked for not burnt pork ribs. The next thing I know, the rude female meat server dumps a plate of beef ribs on the table. I asked her what it was, she rudely replied I asked my server for beef ribs. When I informed her I asked for pork ribs and not beef, she got mad. She ruined my very expensive meal!!!!! If one is having a bad day, either they leave it at the door before they walk in to work or don’t bother working. I’m paying a lot of money for 2 small slices of rib eye which I didn’t eat the first piece since it was burnt, small piece of lamb, a small slice of jamon (sliced wrong. Thick and tiny instead of thin), some asparagus and fruits. What a disappointment. Bad enough the meat were so salty since they kept on giving me the exterior slice where it’s burnt and salty!! If I didn’t have that rude meat server, I would have given Fogo 4 stars.

Fantastic!

I love this place! That being said I only go there once or twice a year because it is just so much delicious meat. It’s pretty spendy, about $52 per person for dinner & $37 for lunch. Today I tried the lunch for the first time & discovered it’s the same as dinner, just cheaper. Bonus! Drinks are also pretty spendy, $14 for a cocktail & $13 for a simple red Malbec. So many different types of meats brought right to your table & sliced for you however you like. Filet, ribeye, top sirloin (picanha), beef ribs, lamb, pork, chicken, sausages, and more! They also have an amazing salad bar & charcuterie that you can visit as often as you’d like. Super friendly staff & great atmosphere.

This place is great! The food is really good and it is a unique experience! They have a great salad bar. The service is really great! The prices are expensive so only eat here when you are hungry or for a special occasion.

Fogo de Chaõ is the best location to eat in Portland. Robert is at this point the reason I keep coming back. Incredible manager, even better human.

Poor Food and Poor Service

By Richard F |

I have been to this Fog de Chao several times before and to many others and have always had an excellent dinner with excellent service but not this time. We arrived 5 minutes prior to our reservation time and the restaurant waiting area was packed. We waited 30 minutes and when our name was called we were escorted to the back of the restaurant where there must have been 15 empty tables. Our server arrived almost immediately and took our drink order and welcomed us to Fogo de Chao. We then went to the salad bar which was wonderful but we didn't come here for salad we came here for the terrific meats. After finishing our salad and placing the green side of our disk up we waited, and waited, and waited some more. The gouchos cutting the meats kept walking past us. After waiting a long time I finally called one over and was served. Throughout the entire evening the gouchos kept walking past us trying very hard not to make eye contact with us. On three occasions I had to ask our server and his assistant to please have someone come to the table. The meat served to us was terrible. It was fatty and difficult to eat. Again we have been to Fogo de Chow in at least 5 other cities, including Portland, and have never had such bad service with such bad meat. The only meats which I would say was good was the chicken and the sausage. Everything else was terrible. Several times when the meat was inedible I had to spit it out into the napkin. Why did we have to keep asking the server to have the gouchos come to the table when he could see what was going on. I had to laugh at the one scoop of mashed potatoes on the table for six people. What's going on here. My last visit to Fogo de Chao was in Boston where the food and service was excellent. This was my last visit to Fogo de Chao in Portland. Never again.

Came for family birthday, spent an hour waiting

By Brandon P |

First time and most likely the last time. Took our family for a family birthday dinner and we have now spent 40 minutes, and counting, waiting for our table. Management has seriously errored in the management of the operations here. As you can see, we are jam packed like sardines with our 6 month year old son. Those are guests waiting on a table…. not grabbing a drink at the bar. Absolutely embarrassed to have to console my crying son while we wait for our table that we reserved weekends ago. Get your stuff together management. No way people should be waiting close to an hour for their table

FUN AND FABULOUS EXPERIENCE!!

By Shesh V |

Upon the recommendation of friends, we made our reservation for dinner. Our time here FAR EXCEEDED our expectations! The food was amazing! There is something for everyone's taste. The entire staff (one exception) was very welcoming upon entering main dining room. The staff was very open, friendly and fun! The staff was super attentive and gives the impression they are to contribute to your memorable experience. The "guachos" bringing the different meats and cuts to the table are very warm and friendly, and kindly explain the cut of meat and what do you prefer: rare, medium rare, medium or well done before serving. We met several Wait Staff (Liam, James, Evan), the CSR, Wayne, the Manager on location, and Jennifer in Sales. The hostess at the front desk was lacking in the Smile department. There is Valet Service with the exception of Mondays and the parking garage would be challenging for any thing larger than mid size vehicle. The Garage staff is very friendly and helpful! Looking forward to coming back and bringing more friends and family☺

A unique experience that is worth every penny

We just went to their Saturday Brunch and loved it. I've been to many buffets including Brazilian style and this is right at the top for me! The Full Churrasco Experience Includes Market Table & Feijoada Bar along with all you can eat meat offerings that they bring by your table on skewers. The selection of meats is extensive with all kinds of steaks including Filet Mignon, chicken several ways, lamb, chorizo sausage, pork ribs and Parmesan pork loin that was my favorite as it was super moist and tender and just full of flavor. It was the best pork I've ever tasted! They have horseradish sauce and Chimichurri that you can ask your waitress or waiter for that we mixed together to use on the beef. It was yummy! The service was also excellent. As mentioned in other reviews they do bring you a number of different sides like Brazilian cheese rolls, fried plantains & polenta that we ate sparingly since it's all about the meats here. The salad bar table had really good cured meats and cheeses along with many different vegetables and salad items, just save room for the barrage of meats that will be coming your way. We got lucky and found on street parking just a block away, but if you can't there are parking garages nearby.

Delicious, but pricy

By Laurinska |

We went to Fogo on our last night in Portland. We were sat at the bar while they prepared a table for us and it took about 10 minutes for them to seat us. We’ve done the rodizio type restaurant’s many times in the past, so we knew what to expect. Chicken, pork and sausage were brought around on a regular basis... they “fill you up” on cheaper cuts of meat, as well as the salad bar. We were encouraged by the manager and our server to ask for specific meats if we wanted them, yet when we did, it took a very VERY LONG time for them to come along. In fact, by the time my husband had his brought to the table, I had already been finished eating for 20 minutes. That said, if you go to Fogo, be aggressive, and get the cuts you want. It is extremely expensive ($170 USD for 2 adults), so you should leave knowing you at least got to sample meats that you enjoy. The salad bar and side dishes (such as mashed potatoes, corn bread, and plantains) were really delicious. We went without a reservation, and we were dressed quite casually (following a day of walking and sight seeing). I noted that there was a diverse cross section of people dining; tourists (like us), people dressed up and celebrating, people on dates and families. Regardless of how we were dressed, we were treated respectfully and the service was top notch. We were provided with a gift card when we left, but sadly we won’t be back to Portland in time to use it.

Great food

This place is clean but it is busy it’s good that they have reservations option online. I love the food here. Staffs are friendly and service is superb all the time especially lamb and chicken. Salads are good also.

Nothing distinctive.

My own fault for going. I had been to this type Brazilian buffet before and found the food boring. Although this was presented well and the servers were great, the food eventually became boring.

Disappointing For So Many Reasons

By Victoria C |

The meat was mediocre for the price that was charged. We had to request ribeye and filet and it took over a 1/2 hour to see them, they kept coming back to ask us if they had appeared yet. Some of the meat was so tough that I could not swallow it, lamb chop was so overdone it had no taste. Service was iffy and certainly not up to the prices they charge. We had a reservation and were seated next to front door and kitchen, we asked to move but they said no. To pay our bill took at least 20 min or longer, , no reason given just "sorry" . Salad bar was wonderful but again that is not what they have big pricetag for.

Never Disappoints!

I introduced a friend to this restaurant for lunch as it is a little cheaper. She was very impressed and we left not needing dinner that evening. Go hungry!

My Birthday DInner

By Nybe O |

My fiance got reservations, when we showed up, we were seated quickly. The server explained how things worked, and checked on us frequently throughout our stay. The salad bar was nice, enough to fill a plate, but not enough to need to return for anything. The meats that came around our table were all different and delicious. I also tried their lemonade, and it was delightful! For dessert, we got the caramelized pineapple and that was yummy!

This Brazilian steak house experience should not be missed.

By Quintin E |

The staff were friendly and accommodating to our group of 6 on a busy long weekend. The experience as a whole was fabulous. All the fresh food that was available was amazing. The steaks and other meats were mouth watering and flavourful. The service was incredible with multiple attendants visiting our table regularly with tantalizing offerings. If I’m back in Portland it will be first in my list for dinner.

Portland Dining

By Chaox84 |

What a great first time experience for our first time here! We had reservations for 8 and had to wait about 45 minutes. There is a bar in the lobby where you can get some good drinks while you wait. With good company, the 45 minutes flew by. We figured what a perfect time to try than to do it for Portland Dining Month. For $33 you got an unlimited amounts of delicious meats. Not to mention, the meat is brought to you at your table being served to you on these huge metal skewers. We enjoyed our first time here!

October Portland Trip

By Robb M |

Three of us went here for dinner. We all had been to a similar type of restaurant but they did not have the full Brazilian theme. It’s definitely a pace yourself type of place to eat. The service is wonderful and you rarely waited for a specific type of meat once you flip over your marker from red to green. You won’t leave hungry and there is a wide variety of meats to choose from. They also have an extensive salad, vegetable, meat and cheese area when you need a change of pace. It hard but try to save room for dessert. The lava cake and key lime pie are excellent. The staff were all very friendly and were happy to explain a specific food, drink or dish that was Brazilian since we were not really familiar with Brazilian specialities. It was a wonderful time and would definitely do it again if back in Portland.

Delicious food, excellent service

Had a wonderful dinner. The food was succulent and everyone was so incredibly welcoming! Robert, Isabelle & team, you made my last night in PDX so memorable. Thank you!

Delicious food! Great service!

By Terri R |

The food here is always delicious. The salad bar is excellent! The service was great too! They have a wide selection of meats that they bring around to you. Make sure you are really hungry before you come since it is all you can eat and the price is a bit high for lunch.

The end of an era...

By Elcamino2013 |

I have been a regular customer of this food chain going back 15 years, and have dined in at least 5 locations across the US, Boston, Manhattan, Portland, Miami, and in Baltimore. The quality that made it unique, the authentic flavors of Brazil, the feijao (black beans), the pao de queijo (cheese bread), plantains (banana da terra) have all been replaced by facsimiles. Though the churrasco (bbq) is still tasty, many of the varieties that used to available have gone, and have been replaced by americanized options like sirloin wrapped in bacon...I was quite disappointed and will not be returning. I recently was informed that the chain had been bought by American investors, where it was always run by Brazilians in the past.....a pity...

Do NOT order delivery, not even from their own website.

By Alexis J |

WORST SERVICE EVER. I have been attempting to order delivery from you for 3 days!!!!!!! This last time, I attempted to order via DoorDash again. All they can offer me is a refund, because you don’t even ANSWER the phone, nor does anyone return the calls! I have been a loyal customer for YEARS, and order $50 at least each time. If you don’t want to do delivery, THEN TAKE IT OFF YOUR WEBSITE AND ALL DELIVERY APPS ASAP. This is inexcusable, like a toddler running a restaurant that’s supposed to be good. And now all I’ll bet for sending you this feedback is a bunch of sales emails despite NOT checking the box for them! This must be because you’ve been bought by a private equity company. Time to close the restaurant down, it’s ruined now.
