Only good if you are in the mood for fried food.

It was ok. Some highs and lows. Husband got the jambalaya. Decent. Not great. But his gumbo was quite good. I got the stew. Shrimp looked like factory farmed from Thailand. Not very substantial. Tasted just ok. The hushpuppies were sublime. Perfectly done which is becoming an art these days. Local beers always good. Waitress was pleasant and efficient. Sat in the back on the porch on a gorgeous Saturday. Can't beat that. We will probably go back and try different entrées. Will also get a hush puppy fix.

Whenever we go the customer service and food are great!! I would recommend this place. I love the chicken Alfredo and the peel and eat shrimp (hot).

Fontaines was a nice experience for our whole family. We all ordered something difference ( from Po Boys to Gumbo to Oysters and Mussels) and everything was excellent. Fontaine has been around for awhile and has that old charm with that the newly places lack. If you are in this area I recommend it.

Stopped in for some oysters and a few drinks. Sat at the bar and the service was great. Ordered a dozen raw oysters and a few beers. Oysters were flavorful and beer selection was good and unique. Music was good, we had a fun time. Can’t wait to go back!

Great oysters, fried catfish! Friendly staff! Planned another trip to take two friends out for birthday celebration. Patrons are always leaving in a delightful mood telling the new arrivals how great it is!

Fontaine's is a great neighborhood oyster bar and seafood restaurant. Tuesdays the special is a dozen of the house oysters for $7. Our favorite is the shucking bar by the front door where you can stand and talk with the regulars while shone shucks oysters for you. Good selection of beers on draft and bottle.

Growing up in Louisiana, I can appreciate oysters and. muffulettas. Oysters of many styles have always been prepared to perfection. The muffs are more bread and less filling than I am accustomed to, but they still taste great. We eat here at least once every 6-8 weeks.

We took my brother from out of town to Fontaine's and I really have a mixed review. The main part of the restaurant is so beautiful with wood everywhere and the chandelier is just breath taking. We chatted a moment with the oyster shucker who was really fun to talk to. We were seated outside on the back porch, the weather was beautiful, but the (smallest) plastic tables and chairs made it rather difficult to relax and kick back. We ordered a tray of oysters and it was so strange that there really wasn't anywhere to put it. I was really concerned thinking about how many plates we'd have for entrees! The oyster bisque was absolutely divine! The gumbo was a bit bland. The entrees I tried were seafood stew and crawfish étouffée. The stew was unbelievably delicious, however the crawfish étouffée was not good at all. I don't even know why they call it étouffée, the roux was blonde there were chunks of red and green bell pepper which made it look like a creole. Also, it was served on brown rice. Why doesn't it mention that? And for heavens sake, at minimum, add some salt. It was extremely bland all around, no spice whatsoever. It also took us a veryyyy long time to get our check. It seemed like our waiter was preoccupied in the first place but he just plain disappeared at the end. I would still recommend coming but keep in mind to just stick with the oysters items on the menu and you'll enjoy it.

We have eaten at this place 50+ times. We always have a great time. It is a really fun place (we would not take children) to go and hang out with friends and eat some good food and have a beer or two..... Is everything on the menu great? NO! If you make even the slightest effort to find something really good can you? Absolutely. My wife loves the lobster bisque. She doesn't eat oysters. That's my point. If you like oysters you are in luck. Going to Fontaine's is more about just getting out and relaxing. It is really easy to do at this place. Anyone should be able to find something to eat that they are excited about and I think the prices are very reasonable.

Good cajun style food at a reasonable price and food our extremely picky daughter even loved. We enjoyed a wonderful sunny afternoon on their lovely back patio with a bottle of wine, fresh oysters, and great meal. The $6 bakers dozen oyster special was such a treat we think we are going to go back today and do it all over again.

Nowhere better to drink than on a nice spring afternoon

I had been wanting to go here just because of the name. I hadn't heard anything about it but decided to give it a try. I went on a Saturday night. The atmosphere was nice for singles...very busy bar area. It was nice to be able to valet for free. However, the most important part of the evening (the food) left me wanting more. I ordered the scampi oysters and they came out room temperature...so I sent them back. The calamari seemed like some it came out of a frozen bag from the grocery store. It was more spicy (hot) than flavorful. My entree (blackened chicken alfredo) was just OK. I ended up adding my own salt and pepper. It was also more spicy than flavorful. My date thought the exact thing about his jambalaya. I'm glad I got the curiosity out of the way, but I won't be back.

Celebrated by wife's birthday with some friends at Fontaine's. Food was outstanding. Wife and I had oysters and friends ordered off menu. Gumbo was to die for. Fish tacos were the best in Atlanta. Would go back again, and again.

Enjoyed dinner on the outside patio; with very responsive wait staff. Appetizers that we tried were Crab Cake Remoulade and Spinach Dip. Both were wonderful. There were 5 in our party and we each had a different entree that included blackened chicken alfredo; blackened mahi; grilled scallops, grilled grouper and fried shrimp. All received positive reviews. One side dish accompaniment was horseradish mash potatoes that were excellent. We ate on Saturday evening and had a very short wait time. Prices were reasonable. Will plan to return again.

Great spot for late night drinks or for seafood/rawbar style dinners. The food is great and reasonably priced. Fun atmosphere.

Strong drinks, good oysters, fairly good deals

Stand around the oyster bar and suck back a few while watching the hipsters and yuppies walk by outside. The food is just OK, but the oysters, atmosphere and good service make it worth more than one visit. Tip: ride a motorcycle or scooter? Spots right outside the door for 2 wheel vehicles only. Perfect.

We ate here last Sunday. Arrived at opening, 12 noon. Very limited seating inside, it is a small dark bar. Most of the seating is outside in the back. The patio seemed nice, it was covered, but we ate inside because it was so hot. The good: The broiled oyster trio was incredible. You get a dozen oysters scampi style, Rockefeller, and can't remember the other for $20. The scampi was the best, would just order them alone. The fried basket was good. They do not have a combination, but you can choose 2 if you ask the waiter because that option is not on the menu. I chose the shrimp and scallops. They were fried excellently and not salty. The slaw was a little less than average though. The bad: the broiled fish was waaaaaay overcooked. It was dry and tough. The peel and eat shrimp were just okay and could have been seasoned better. Also mixed drinks are small for the price. Would try here again. Oysters and fried fish seem to be their thing. I think maybe this is supposed to be like New Orleans seafood. Not even close.

We had to wait about an hour on a Friday night, but it was still a great evening. We had fried calamari, which were of good quality and served with, I would say, a sweet and sour sauce and with a sauce with a little heat. For the main course I had shrimp and grits. Although the andouille sausage and spinach in a cream sauce were an unusual addition, I would rate this dish up there with the best I have had in Savannah or Charleston. Everyone was friendly, and even with the beer added, the cost was not bad at all for Atlanta.

I have not found a more authentic Oyster bar than Fontaines Oyster Bar. Their Jambalaya & Fried Oyster plate is truly the best. Great cooks, friendly staff, & excellent prices.

Love this place! Great food if ya like Southern cooking. Fun atmosphere, great drink selection, and we will be back!

Got into town just in time for Tuesday night's oyster special. I had 3 dozen AND the Seafood Gumbo. We vowed to return before we left town but just didn't have time to get back there. Great Service too!!

My wife and & had started the night out at another local oyster house. We were on a qwest for the best oysters in Atlanta. There actually are a few places to choose from but I'd dare to say that any can compare to Fontaine's. Walking into the restaurant, we were quickly seated outside on the balcony. The atmosphere quickly reminded us of being on River Street in Savannah, home of our favorite oyster pub, Bernie's. We were quickly greeted by our server and before we knew it, the beer and those wonderful oysters had arrived. They were large, fresh and everything that we'd set out in search of. We'd also decided to share some shrimp and an oyster po' boy. Both were equally as good. Since this was our oyster "night cap", we didn't venture much further into their menu but the selections looked great. We will be back to Fontaine's, without a doubt, and highly recommend it to any one else in the ATL that has a jonesing for oysters. Fontaine's can't be beat.

The raw oysters were very poor and not fresh. It didn't look fresh to the naked eye and had a slightly yellowish tint to it, so I threw it all away without eating a few. And I suffered from diarrhea all night long. It won't come again

Everything we had was delicious. Best gumbo north of Louisiana. Waiter was wonderful. Loved eating outside.

We had my birthday dinner here. If you like oysters , this is the place. This is a fun restaurant. Drinks were good , appetizers were good , meals were good and service was top notch. Valet parking in the rear was very easy. We will definitely be back.

Just wanted to try something different while in the area. This place is so cute. AMAZING outdoor seating and cute crowd. The foot was pretty good too! Will definitely go here again.

Got a table out front by the sidewalk so my dog could come too. Really nice old place that has been renovated. The whole block or two have been redone really nice. Very laid back and quite

Great food & service! No wait time. We were seated right away, however we had to eat outside on the patio, glad we had nice weather. I would recommend eating here.

Great service, food, atmosphere and sitting out on the patio listening to the acorns dropping unto the roof just added to the ambiance. Could have shared as the portions were very generous! Loved the tree outside coming right through the roof. Ladies restroom could have been a little cleaner.

Sometimes I get a hankering for oysters. Fresh, plump raw oysters. Fontaine's is now my go to. This is a no frills place to eat, perfect with friends or on a Friday or Saturday night. We were seated on the extended balcony, which use to be part of the old Noche. At first, our server (I do believe his name was Brian) seemed a little low energy, but I realized quickly that he was just a low key, cool guy. We loved Brian. He gave us the low down on what was what. I had a whole dozen of fresh oysters (DELIGHTFUL!) and a beer. This should tell you, a bit about my love for oysters. They were fresh, just a tad sweet, and oh so good. A little mignonette and hot sauce and they hit the spot. Almost forgot the best part. When asked, Brian was humble, but honest about the oyster bisque, so I gave it a shot. It was amazing. Light, but rich and buttery with LOTS of oyster in it. You must try it! The meal was memorable (as I write this review almost 5 weeks later). Oyster lovers, this is your place.

I was there for lunch. I went in thinking about getting an Oyster Po Boy but I saw they had oyster tacos. To avoid all the bread I tried them. They were excellent. I had a side of red beans and rice and added hot sauce. The waitress was great.

My family went here this weekend during a walk in the area. We chose this spot because it got really good reviews and I was dying to get a lobster roll. Here are my thoughts. Lobster Bisque - Creamy and good lobster flavor. It was really chunky with bits of lobster. I liked it. Hush Puppies - they were good, but very dark. I think the grease may have reached its usefulness. Seafood Gumbo - tomatoey, full of seafood and veggies. It wasn't as rich as I have had at some other Cajun/Creole restaurants. I prefer mine with less chunks of vegetables. But it was still a good soup. Crab Cakes. The frlavor in them was good. It had lots of crab! My only knock is the chunks of onions and peppers. That was a heavy after-taste in my mouth. Lobster Roll - before I continue, I must call this what it was...Lobster Po'Boy. It was very tasty, but not a lobster roll. The bread was toasted and buttered very well. The lobster meat was plentiful and supple. The remoulade was good also. I have to only give 3 stars out of 5 because although everything was "pretty good", I have had Cajun/creole seafood that was much better. I'm glad I went, and the service was very good.

Normally when Alaskan Snow Crab is on the menu, it trumps everything else but..., after recommendation from our server, I decided to try the Oyster Sampler and I was very happy I did! Delicious! Great service, great atmosphere...yup, check'em out if you haven't yet!

We always take out of town guests here! They always ask to come back! They always love it! It's memorable! Lots of great specials! Scallops catfish mahi shrimp oysters. Po boys! All done perfectly! Funky and casual! Love eating outside on the back porch. Go early or for lunch or you will have a wait! Where else can two people have a great seafood meal for under 30 dollars with two beers!!!!

While in Atlanta I wanted to find a good place for seafood (primarily oysters). I read some reviews and thought I'd try it out. I was with co-workers and talked them in to going. When we walked in I thought we'd made a mistake, until we asked to sit on the patio. We had the BEST time, BEST food and best atmosphere!!! I HIGHLY recommend if you are looking for a laid-back seafood place. IMPRESSED!!! Will be back!

Very cozy bar with a great vibe. Somewhere worth relaxing after walking around the beltline. Try the tacos! Very tasty!

Fontaine's always has fresh oysters regardless of Season. In the summer they come from up North so you do not need to worry about getting sick from oysters. The other food on the menu is also very good.

We were in the downtown area, and decided to go to mid town to the Virginia Highlands area for lunch. Tried Fontaine's for the first time. Franco was our waiter, and he provided over the top, friendly service. Made us feel right at home. My wife had the best caprese salad ever. I had a grilled chicken sandwich that was off the charts. Some of the best food we have had in a while.

We came to capitalize on this deal. It's a popular one. You may end up waiting for 45 minutes, but it's well worth it. You can grab a drink at the bar while you wait and maybe even find a place to stand on the back patio. The oysters were delicious, very fresh. I also recommend the calamari and crab dip. I usually overestimate my liking of fried calamari, but these were on point. Not too heavily breaded or fried, they were delicious and the cuts of octopus are great as well not too chewy. It comes with two dipping sauces. Additionally, there's an extensive beer menu.

Our family of six discovered Fontaine's less than three months ago and have been there three times. We are seafood lovers. Fontaine's has excellent quality, excellent recipes, reasonable prices and great service. We have tried a large variety of our the appetizers and have yet to be disappointed. Favorites include caramari, mussels, crab dip and hot steamed shrimp with Old Bay style seasoning. The oyster stew is fabulous! All of the entrees we have ordered have been wonderful. The fried oysters are the best I have found in Atlanta. Raw oysters are great too. Between the six of us we order alot of food. Two of the three servers we have encountered have been great. The third was average. Seating is limited to a small balcony overlooking the parking lot, booths lining the bar and a small, dark, unpleasant room. One of the bartenders encountered was friendly and suggested a gin cocktail that will be a new standard order for us. Another bartender did not know what an Arnold Palmer or a John Daly was. The bar selection is limited. No Curaçao and no lemonade for a John Daly. The oyster shucker guy is just plain rude and weird. The positives, being great seafood and service, far outweigh the negatives. Fontaine's is now our family's go-to restaurant for a family dinner. I'm planning two more visits in upcoming weeks with friends. Be sure to check Fontaine's website. Their daily special offers are excellent. We particularly like to go on Monday's for 1/2 off appetizers.

Stopped in on a cold, cold night. Good crowd, but not packed. Just my friend and I, so we sat at the bar. Glad we did. Rick our barkeep kept us entertained all night. He is personable, extremely knowledgeable about the food and beer choices, and the type of server that can make a good evening a even greater one. My friend started off with a martini and then had the oysters (3 bluepoints and and 3 duxbury) and the oysters/shrimp combo. All were excellent. I wasn’t drinking (overdid it Year’s) and had the shrimp po boy. I loved the bread, the remoulade, the shrimp; it was delicious. Wish it’d had another shrimp or two on it. Really enjoyed the evening and will definitely be back.

This is a great place to just sit and have a beer on the back patio or the bar. They have a great seafood selection as well. The crab dip in the apps section is fantastic. Always a great beer selection and great bar staff.

My only complaint was that the boil wasn't not spicy at all, I get that I'm in GA however, so I'll let that one go. Great service and I absolutely loved the area for it to be a Friday night.

This place is absolutely hands down my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. I had a few Guiness drafts and 24 raw oysters. The best raw oysters I've ever had. The waiter gave me a birthday slice of cheesecake. The cheesecake was amazing as well. My wife had the grilled chicken and a side of fried okra. She was thrilled with her food as well. We liked it so much that we went back the following Tuesday for half off oysters. We will definitely be going back in the future. Oysters were fresh from Virginia. Fried okra was great.

Great ambiance and service. Good food. Stopped here for dinner on a Sunday night. Had the fried pickle chips (amazeballs), a dozen oysters on the 1/2 shell (get the house ones), a cup of meat chili (not spicy..needed help), seafood gumbo (same thing but amazing after Lovestuff 5 pepper sauce), a 1/4 muffalutta (tasty-ate it open face) with hush puppies (with honey...well done!) and a Caesar salad served between a few of us. Excellent server and the place was dressed up for Halloween. Trust me on the house oysters!

My friend and I had a lite dinner last night (1/22). It was DELICIOUS. We weren't sure what we wanted and just kind of wondered upon Fontaine's. I'm glad we did. The lobster bisque was amazing as was the shrimp and grits. My Caesar salad was fresh and the dressing was perfect. I knew instantly they used anchovies....very good. The only thing, we had a problem with the parking. (Not their fault) the meter didn't work in front of restaurant. We almost left. Glad we didn't. Be prepared for the meter not to work. Fontaine's is a HIT...🍷

Stoped by for lunch and had a great time. The wait staff was fun and a little crazy like we were. Salmon and salad were good. The fries were super. Drink unusual and good.

I can't really say too much about the food because we just had an appetizer and a drink while watching playoff baseball. However, the atmosphere is very welcoming. From the moment I stepped in I felt as though I belonged. Kind of a "Cheers" feel. :)

Here every Friday from 5-7 happy hour, half priced oysters and crab legs. Delicious dinner and plenty else to do in the Highlands vicinity.

good drinks haha

Find out hte nights they have deals and enjoy the discounted oysters. definitely worth the price if you can get a good deal on em.

Fountaine's is a great little spot in Virginia Highlands. The drinks are strong and the food is good. I always start with the Cajun Rice Balls...they are divine. The staff is funky and cool. I love the menu options and the service is fast.

First time visiting here, excellent food, wonderful environment, love the open porch area. Nice Cross Breeze blowing between the buildings. Definitely add this place to your to visit list.

Went for Valentine's Day which coincided with the Thursday specials. Oyster were half price, great deal. Service was a little slow, but the food more than made up for it. Well definitely be back.

I have eaten at Fontaine's Oyster House several times, and usually order just their excellent oysters on the half shell. But this visit I also tried their Shrimp Seafood Basket for the first time and was glad I did. I'm not sure how one restaurant can do fried shrimp better than another, but Fontaine's can show you how it's done. When you next visit Fontaine's, my recommendation is to order a dozen of their oysters on the half shell, followed by their wonderful Shrimp Seafood basket. You'll be glad you did.

Love highlands but really love this place. Oysters are perfect every time. The covered outdoor seating is a bonus. Drink specials ongoing. Be sure to ask.

We went to Lunch today, what a pleasant surprise excellent, fresh, affordable seafood in Atlanta. The oyster po-boys, Scallop & Shrimp po-boys, red beans and rice, hush puppies were outstanding. The service was excellent (get Adam). Plenty of parking behind building. In Virginia- Highlands Area so there is plenty to do when done eating.

Had a wonderful evening at Fontaine's Oyster House. Appetizers were delish and nice selection - just wish they offered special cocktail prices during happy hour.

Good drinking den. They do food and drink promotions on Monday nights when it's quiet - worth a visit then.

Best variety of oysters I've ever seen. Sat at the bar and had excellent service, food, and drinks. This is a must visit if you're in Atlanta.

I had a friend visiting before NY and we went to Virginia Highlands for lunch and ate at Fontaine's. I had been there before, but not for years. We were able to sit outside on the back terrace as it was a lovely day in December. I had the lobster bisque - it was deliciously perfect and oh so rich! A cup is enough unless it is your main meal, you are starving, or you a large person who can consume a lot of food. My friend had a bowl of seafood gumbo and she reported that it was great ( it certainly looked great.) For entrees I had a turkey burger that was great, and my friend had the crab cakes. Great food, great service, and sitting outside on December 28th - life is grand!

Excellent spicy boiled shrimp, crab legs and bloody mary's! And all half-price, can't beat that. We added a basket of tater tots and loved the decadent, messy, yummy lunch.

Great atmosphere - great service - amazing food - easy parking - reasonable prices - great place. What else could you possible need? Nothing more to say.

The food was amazing. Bluepoint Oysters fresh and the Fried Catfish delicious. Lobster Roll is a must try. Juicy pieces. I am not a fan of Bloody Mary’s but these taste really good. Great atmosphere for family and friends. Will highly recommend you try it.

The calamari app is great, the sauce made it. I had the fried oysters, very good. Really enjoyed the Red Beans & Rice side. My 6 years old loved her fried catfish, she said this is her new favorite restaurant. My wife loved her crabcakes. 10/10, 5 stars....

For years, I've wanted to go to Fontaine's, but for whatever reason never made it. Finally went and I am so glad I did. I love raw oysters, but I guess I'm somewhat of a snob. Really good ones are hard to find it seems. Well, I had a couple dozen here and they were fantastic. Cold, fresh, and grit-free. We had gumbo, mussels, a muffaletta...all really, really good. Service was great. Atmosphere was exactly what we wanted. Looking forward to going back!

I make it my business to come here everytime I visit Atlanta. The baked oysters are what I come for. Ive had the seafood baskets as well. You wont be disappointed. Great place for a date night as well. There is seating outside in the back, but the heaters keep it warm during the winter.

Oysters were tiny but great. The jambalaya was insanely spicy (and I love spicy foods), as was the bloody mary. Prices were a little high on the oysters but I will return.

Different variety of oysters, get the sampler...

You have got to try the Lobster bisque. THe best I have ever tasted.

What a wonderful treat again!! Raw oysters, cold peel and eat shrimp and crabs cakes!!! Yum!! Husband and daughter loved the blackened salmon-wish we could have taken some home but tot good for leftovers!! Abita Beer and Hemingway cocktail followed by glass of SB!! Recommend sitting out side if available!! Service was great too

Great place - good selections - fair pricing I had calamari appetizer, the oyster po boy w/hush puppies, and dozen oysters on half shell - with an oatmeal stout. Yum Great service. Not to busy. I am ready to go back for more!

We've eaten here several times and the food never disappoints. I enjoy the oysters and grilled grouper and my wife enjoys fried shrimp and ceasar salad. Prices are VERY reasonable. Will continue to return.

love this place, wish I lived closer. service is always good and the beer cold. Have not tried too much else on the menu.

Food is very good, beer very cold, Service could be a bit better, but then, it could be better in many places! Specials on week-days are worth going for.

I love this place! I have been at least 20 times and have never been disappointed. The lobster bisque is the best I’ve ever had. It has a lot of chunks of lobster in it and is always really warm. Their crap legs are also great and they have a lot of days with special priced crabs and other food. I’m the kind of person that sticks to what I like so I really haven’t ventured too far away from the bisque. The service is always really good too. The patio is great, it is open in the winter and always nice and warm.

I am not a fan of frying my seafood - and most of their menu is fried. I did enjoy some oysters. This place is usually crowded and has a nice outdoor seating area. It is not kid friendly in my opinion. Parking is difficult but their is a paid lot in the back. Good bar scene.

Food was great. Oysters, crab legs & shrimp were tasty. Service was excellent. Drinks were also very good. Enjoyed sitting in the patio on a nice Saturday afternoon

I just found this place yesterday day. Their food is awesome and the half off food from 1pm through 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Just can't beat the crab leg special. 1/2 price crabs on Wed. is a great deal. We love to stop by every few weeks, sit on the patio and enjoy a glass of wine and this great deal.

Went on a Sunday evening and the place was packed! We waited about 20 minutes and then were seated on the heated back porch. My husband, friend and I were visiting Atlanta and this place came highly recommended from a local. Our waitress was super friendly and patient, the menu looked so good we had a very hard time deciding what to get. When we asked what was good, she said everything - "seriously, there is nothing on this menu that is bad". We started with Fried Pickles, can't really go wrong there. They were delish. My husband got the Fisherman's Stew, my friend got the Crab Cake Remoulade, with hush puppies, and I got the grilled jumbo shrimp, with veggies. As much as I love shrimp, and these were cooked perfectly, they were not the stars of the show. The crab cakes were fantastic, the hush puppies were the best I've ever had. And the Fisherman's Stew was PHENOMENAL. The sauce was amazing and everything was cooked so well. We left with our tummies VERY happy and will be back here again anytime we visit Atlanta.

The best place to eat if in Virginia Heights - avoid the bar across the road at all cost (Moe's and Joe's). The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was very tasty, with fresh ingredients. Also a good selection of drinks. It has a nice outdoor seating area in the back for those warm evenings.

My wife and I stopped by for a weekend "lunch" of oysters. Sometimes you just get those cravings! Anyway the service was great and the oysters tasted very fresh. They had three different selections. Since it was Mardi Gras week, the oysters went very well with an Abita TurboDog or two. So if you can't get to New Orleans, this is a great place to stop. My wife had a grouper sandwich that she said was outstanding also.

Went to meet friends and sat on the patio...will never want to sit inside now. Oysters were fabulous and very reasonable. Have specials...just check the days and go...it is worth it! Great atmosphere, great food and greAt service. A fantastic combination!

The atmosphere was laid back. The food was delicious. Our server Franco was awesome and very knowledgeable of the menu.

We had the chilled seafood platter to share for two - it was excellent with plenty of oysters, shrimps and snow crab legs. Good selection of wine and beer in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

We had lunch here on a Monday. Table service was beyond idea. Adam was stellar. The food was excellent, as usual. We had a Muffalatta, shrimp jambalaya, fried okra, red beans and rice after starting with a delicious place of Oysters Rockefeller. Would highly recommend. Hopefully, Adam will be there to welcome you & show you what a great server he is.

I have enjoyed eating oysters at Fontaine's on N Highland previously, but this week was my first time to visit on a Tuesday. Big mistake on my part. Half-price for the house oysters is only $10.00 per dozen. Delicious. I'll be back on Tuesday.

Great little place for a drink with oysters from around the country. I had small but tasty ones from Washington. West coast oysters are not as salty as the East coast ones, but are firmer. Fontaine's has a big menu to choose from. I recommend Fontaine's for a noisy diversion from quiet, formal restaurants.

excellent cajun food, fine plump tasty fresh oysters, excellent gumbo, fine red beans and rice, and a grand muffa letta. we cannot wait to return.

If you like oysters, you will love Fontaine's. As to sit on the porch. It is comfortable, and so nice and relaxing (not to mention the great oysters). You will enjoy it very much!

Not impressed. It took the staff forever to even acknowledge us once we arrived. They then made us feel it was an inconvenience to ask to be seated. We were given a table against the wall when there were many tables available with a nice view. My partner order salad and gumbo and received something pink, not gumbo. I was given beer samples so I could choose. They were hot. My kale salad was hot, wasn't expecting this. The oyster sample wasn't good. The salmon was good. The blue point oysters were good. The wait tried.

Came here as friends I stayed with said had to go to try the oysters. The food is probably some of the best seafood I've had. The shrimp was fantastic. The staff are mega friendly and great fun. As a tourist from the UK they were wonderful with me.. talked me through some of the traditional local foods and made me feel incredibly welcome. Proper southern hospitality.

What can I say about Fontaine's that hasn't been said?? I went on a Tuesday night and it was $5 dozen oyster night!! The oysters were so good, and the sauce they serve with it was awesome!!! I highly recommend this place to everyone!! For it to be so busy, the food came rather quickly!!

Wednesday nite is half price crab legs night (down from $20) and there was something about $2 bottle of wines, but I went with a Long Island. At first sip, I was glad I was alone, because it was strong and I knew I didn't need more than one to get me feeling like I'd need a designated driver. I also ordered red potatoes and corn on the cob. I was taken about by the $3 corn on the cob, because I'm one of those people that think, well dam, I could have bought 9 ears of corn for $3. Nothing was special about either one, and I think the potatoes were room temperature at best because I took them home with me and realized that the pad of butter that had been placed in the serving dish had not even begun to melt. The crab legs however, were perfect. Nicely steamed, and while they weren't king crabs in the least, they weren't laden with so much old bay seasoning that I felt like I needed to check my blood pressure upon leaving. At this point, I ordered another pound to take home.

I went here for the first time today. I got some delicious 😋 seafood. I had to drive between the 👀 eye glasses building and another to park! Once I called the server she told me exactly what color of the doors 🚪 are red! I found the location and the food is super I had a lobster 🦞 Roll from a previous place and it was cold 🥶 and tasteless. This lobster Roll exceeded my expectations! It comes with a side I got Tots. I got off early from work and I didn't eat 😩 prior to my visit. I also got crabcakes and fries

The place is in the small center of Virginia Heights, a nice and cozy neighbohood close to Buckhead. There are plenty of seats in a patio outside. Raw oysters are $5 a dozen on Tuesdays! Prices are really affordable for the quantity of food. Service was efficient and fast.

I crave their lobster bisque. It's the best I've ever had anywhere. Also, I love the oyster sampler. Service is good depending on which server you get. Some are more attentive than others, but that's the case everywhere. I don't like the indoor setting (too dark), so I always sit on the patio. This restaurant isn't near us, but worth the drive for the lobster bisque.

My wife and I had dinner Friday night here. She had the streamed oysters, I had the blackened scallops. Both were delicious. This isn't a high scale place, our was noisy since college football was on, and you would expect no less. Duo if you want quiet and romantic, this isn't it. But if you want a good time with good food with good prices, check it out.

Went to the Oyster Bar on a night where appetizers were half off. Probably a good thing as the appetizers were nothing to write home about, but at half price we couldn't complain. If you like fried fish, this is your place. I don't eat oysters, so I can't comment. What is cool about this place is the back patio. It is a patio the wraps around and makes it a nice atmosphere if you are looking for a place to eat outside. The service was basic and it took time to get our food and then to get the staff back for additional beverages. So, if you go, go on specials night and don't expect too much.

We had dinner last night and could not be more happy with the food and service. I had a dozen raw oysters and a side of fried okra. The oysters were large, because it being oyster season now and delicious. The okra was great as a side. They side was more than enough okra for 2 people and ideas delicious as well. We both had a cigar house later that was featured on draft. Definitely a beer if you like lagers. The atmosphere was creator this time of year because we were seated on the back patio and the weather was nice. All the humidity was gone by the evening. We will definitely be back soon.

Fontaine’s is an oyster bar in the popular Virginia-Highlands area. They have different food specials most nights of the week. We were there on the night that half price snow crab is offered. We had the snow crab which was fine and seemed very fresh. The cocktails were good, but not remarkable enough to get the recipe. The highlights were the soups. The lobster bisque and the oyster stew were both wonderful and great on a cold day.

What a nice find! The bar area has a lot of soul. Service was impeccable and the food was outstanding. We had a variety of things from peel and eat shrimp, oyster sampler, muffuletta, and salmon. Everything was delicious! We would definitely go back if we were in Atlanta again.

In town for business and spent the weekend and I'm always on the hunt for oyster bars in my travels, Fontaine's popped up as one of the best in Atlanta. Over in Virginia Highlands neighborhood, well worth checking out. I went last night, Saturday night on early side around 6 pm. The place was already very crowded and I squeezed in at the bar since I was solo. Unique space in that there's an outdoor patio/balcony, very new orleans atmosphere, casual but elegant. Bar area casual filled with locals, very friendly clientele and the bar tenders very attentive. I had the roasted oysters of the day, superb, and steamed clams. Nice house wine selection too. I can't wait to go back and try the shrimp and grits!

Various days and times oysters, really fresh wonderful Gulf Oysters, are offered for $6 a dozen with seasonal Sam Adams pints for $2.50. They have other specials so check their website. It is a great way and place to spend a couple of deliscious hours. Their menu is varied and all thebfood that comes out looks very good. We usually go just for oysters and ar arguably the best and most reasonably priced in Atlanta. It is located in a wonderful neighborhood area and is a fun and worthwhile adventure which I recommend to any oyster lover.

If you can, get a table out on the terrace. If you have every been to New Orleans, sitting out here will really remind you of some of those lovely garden terraces. We decided on the fried oyster basket, crab dip, Catfish Po boy and Oyster Po Boy. All the food was delicious and our server was amazing! We would definitely eat here again!

This past Friday I went and had a great time until 30 hours later I ended up with food poisoning. All three of us that went got it from eating the oysters. I honestly don't know that I will ever be able to eat oysters there again after being sick for 2 days like I was. But, I also can't say I will never eat there again.

As neighborhood locals, we loved this place. UNTIL we got food poisoning. Out of our table of 7 (we ate oysters, peel and eat shrimp, and crab legs) five of us ended up puking within 72 hours. I'd stick with the Lobster bisque, if you go at all.

Good, cheap, fun oyster bar with some great daily specials. Buffalo basket is a must get appetizer.

Terrific food, especially the grilled tuna and oysters. Try the crab & bacon oysters. YUM!

My daughters and I had dinner on Saturday. The drinks were wonderful, the atmosphere was great and our waitress was phenomenal. My daughters shrimp and grits was great she said and my other daughter's jambalaya was also very well done. However, I got the shrimp etouffee and other than the shrimp being great it tasted like an entire salt shaker had been poured on the meal by the kitchen. I was very disappointed. Having been to Louisiana several times I know what etoufee tastes like and more salt does not make the dish. The cook needs to learn how to make roux correctly. I had my two daughters taste it and they agreed that it was too salty. I will go back for drinks and appetizers but will not order another entree there.

My wife and I were in Atlanta for a holiday visit with our daughters and their families. We all love seafood and oysters are a favorite. Thanks Fontaine's for letting us set up in your side room and enjoy several dozen of your oysters on the half shell. Three varieties were available, and although we tried a dozen of each, the group decided to do another three dozen of your house selection. It was a fun time, in a friendly establishment, with a wonderful staff both at the bar and serving our tables. If you are thinking about oysters, I recommend a stop at Fontaine's.

Really good and fresh raw oysters and the atmosphere is really relaxing and you speed hours just chilling on the back deck I would go there again

There is free parking on the back side of the building. There is indoor and outdoor seating. It’s a little dark on the inside but some may like that atmosphere. On Mondays you get half off pull and peel shrimp. They were 9.00 for pile of them. James river (VA) raw oysters are about 1.75 a piece. The blue point oysters from CT are almost 3 a piece but so much better tasting. All oysters were fresh and a decent size. We also had the fried oyster baskets with fried okra. The fried oysters were a good size and not overly battered. The fried okra was good as well. The 2 kids split the shrimp po boy and they really liked it. We finished with the humming bird cake. It was a large piece that 2 could easily share and a nice sweet tropical type of finish to out meal. The oyster baskets were 14.00 a piece. The service was good. No military discount. We enjoyed it.

The food, atmosphere and service is always great. The only reason I don't give them a five is because the little girls room is just that...lol

My hubby and I went here for the first time this weekend and while the inside was loud, we sat on the beautiful patio and it was perfect. The patio is on the 2nd level and covered with greenery/flowers. Service was great and food was good. Best part was the oysters, we got the sampler. My husband had the catfish plate and it was average. I got the shrimp poboy and it was average. Go here for the oysters and awesome patio.

As a somewhat native of New Orleans, I loved the atmosphere at Fontaine's! We stopped there for lunch, and if I hadn't known better, I'd have sworn I was sitting somewhere in the Vieux Carre. Everything about the service, food, and music was fabulous. We had a group that ranged from teens to octogenarians (including my totally cajun mom) and all had a good time. That's what you'd expect from a true Louisiana joint! We had all sorts of things, including raw oysters (and fried, for that matter), and no bad effects later. The Abita Springs pecan beer was a treat. Can't wait to go back on my next trip to Atlanta.

Fontaine's is a great bar, with an old-fashioned look and feel. I love their New Orleans style food, especially the cajun rice balls, crab cakes and hush puppies. They usually have a beer specially and the run some daily specials, although I was very disappointed that they did away with the 1/2 price appetizers during happy hour on Thursdays.

There's always been a rumor that the old buildings in this area are infested with Rats, mice and other creepy crawlers. The stray cats outside the building should be a warning. They are big and plump. I had a tough night at this restaurant. My server was super rude to the point that my friend and i were aruging about actually tipping her. We did even if she didn't deserve it. We tried to tell the manager about our concerns, and he didn't care. I got really really sick from the food here. Do yourself a favor and do not go here. Try El Taco down the street.

Obviously Fontaine's claim to fame is oysters. But even oysterphobes like us can find a tasty meal here. We DO like spicy and Fontaine's understands spicy, so we shared a buffalo shrimp basket appetizer. They were excellent, and could easily be an entree. We may do that next time. I had shrimp jambalaya (great) and my wife had lobster bisque (just average) and scallops (big, tender and good). Try to get a patio table if you enjoy the outdoors. Hint : the online menu links on TripAdvisor and OpenTable are outdated. The prices are higher.

Great atmosphere and service, thanks Bobby! We had the peel and eat shrimp and oysters but the best part of our meal was the crab cakes, some of the best I have had, crispy on the outside incredibly moist and flakey on the inside. Will be back on my return visit to Atlanta.

Prefer the patio since it is a bit quieter. Patrons must be a minimum of 21 years old. The last time I was there smoking was still permitted in the restaurant.

Has the best gumbo in the city has everything in it including okra gumbo is not a gumbo unless you have okra and oysters in it

Fontaine's is a pretty average oyster bar. The food's decent, the drinks are fine, and everything is moderately priced. I wouldn't say it's a must go, but if you're out barhopping in the Highlands, it's not a bad stop to make. It usually has a pretty young crowd, a lot of Emory seniors, and you definitely won't be disappointed

I simply stopped in for some raw oysters. The server recommends the house brand indicating they were the most popular. As a Vermonter fresh oysters are difficult to come by. These oysters were enormous, fresh and juicy. I jjst wish I had been here earlier.

We were in the VA/Highland neighborhood and the New Orleans atmosphere caught our eye. The atmosphere was fun and servers were friendly. The menu offered numerous options but the food was average when served.

best place to chill with some oysters... The service at the bar is great and depending on the day its a good place to meet new people

Best Sunday Bloody Mary/Oyster's on Half Shell

We had a table of 5, i family visiting from texas , we ordered pickles , everyone loved them, oysters on the half shell ..very good, scallop tacos salty, salmon very bland,;crab cakes just ok, muff sandwich. ..average..nice selection of beer... It wasn't bad and it was not amazing...I will visit again.

My husband and I had a wonderful meal. We shared the cold seafood platter for two. It was just the right amount for a late evening dinner. The steamed squash and zucchini were cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed the potatoes. The service was a complement to the meal!

I always try and go to Fontaines when near the city and it's a Tuesday. Tuesday is half price Oysters at $6 a dozen. You can't beat that deal and even in July they were being ordered like crazy. Follow that with the muffalatta (sic) and it's a good day. Made great by hitting Moe's and Joe's across the street for a post meal beer.

who doesn't love oysters tuesdays?

Don't believe the hype. Several restaurants in this area that offer great food and ambiance. Beware if you order the shrimp po boy...you only get 4 shrimp! The blackened alfedo was decent however portion sizes not that big. Maybe the chef should consider taking an creole class to beef the menu up a bit...also consider portion sizes as it relates to the expensive menu

The location of the restaurant seemed to be in a 'not so great' area of town near Piedmont Ave and Pounce de Leon however I'm not entirely familiar with the city so I could be wrong but the surroundings seemed run down a bit. We wanted some good seafood and any restaurant that has oyster bar in the name is usually worth trying. We tried oyster Rockefeller not long ago for the first time in Charleston so we had to try it again since it was on the menu. It was very good but not like I remembered from Charleston but after sharing a plate with my spouse, I definitely wanted more. I ordered the crawfish etouffee and my spouse got the crab cake plate. You don't often see etouffee on the menu so I had high hopes but was quite disappointed with it. It was definitely not Creole, southern or Louisiana style etouffee. If you've had it that kind of style before, you know what I mean. It was not rich in flavor, not spicy at all, and was just overall kind of plain. It certainly looked well prepared and was arranged nicely on the plate but my tastebuds had little to desire. I tried some of my spouses crab cakes and those were actually pretty good. It wasn't heavily breaded and it was baked instead of fried and then pan seared. This gave it a more soft, fluffy texture instead of crunchy texture you get most places. It seemed hand made, not out of a box, and I was pleasantly pleased with this portion of his dish. Although he got red beans and rice for his side and like my etouffee, it lacked alot of flavor. There was complimentary parking for free yet you almost miss the sign if you aren't looking. There was lots of outdoor seating on the terrace which gave it more of an inviting atmosphere but the inside was relatively small. I want to rate it a 3 1/2 stars but I can't give it a 4 and deem it very good, just a little more than average is a fair assessment.

I love Fontaine's. The food is always good and the service is perfect. Go for their oyster or crab leg specials... But their regular menu has many great items as well. I am a transplant from Virginia so I will say I was spoiled by fresh crab and oyster from the Chesapeake (and a lower price). But the oysters at Fontaine's are some of the better ones I have found in Atlanta. If you go take advantage of the back patio. It is charming, secluded, and really nice in the evening.

First time visit on Fat Tuesday. OMG! The lobster mac and cheese was absolutely the best thing(and most fattening) i have ever put in my mouth. You will lick the bowl. Oysters are small but they were really good. Our waitress Susan was awesome. Will return soon.

Great Selection of Food

I've had the opportunity to patron Fontaines for nearly 10 years. The main draw to Fontaines is the consistency. They always have specialty oysters on short order for a more than fair price. A dozen for $12-$15 for Blue Pointe or Basilea is untouchable. Add that to $2 pints of what's on tap, makes a great combo. They also have a covered patio w/ work great for kids. I highly recommend Fontaines.

Lobster bisque and mussels are THE best.

I love Fontaine's! Whether I am getting a cocktail while browsing the cute Virgina Highland shops or am getting dinner, the experience is always great. The bartenders are always hilarious and the food is fresh.

i make sure i get to fontaine's on tuesday for cheap beer and oysters. i have eaten everything on lthe menu except red meat. iv'e eaten at least 100 dozen oysters there over the years, never ever gotten sick, lobster bisque and oyster stew are awsome, salads with salmon are good also as is shrimp and pasta. i have even collected shells on tuesdays before opening to put in my driveways at two properties planing to go late july 2012. great street secnes. can be loud and crowed on weekends with obnoxious students and posers

I'm an out of towner, and my travel partner and I were craving oysters. We found Fontaines and decided to try it. Wow, we LOVED it! Great oysters, not the best I've ever had but pretty good! Loved the Parmesan ones! And they had dollar miller lite drafts in Sunday! Ok, I don't care for miller lite that much, but I'll drink it for a buck a piece! I'm hoping that we don't get the food poisioning I'm reading about, cause it was fantastic! Service was mediocre, but was easy to deal with since the food and prices were so great!

This is just a neat building with both indoor and outdoor seating. We were outdoors and the service was great. We started out with a few dozen oysters and they were some of the best I have had. After that on the recommendation of our server we all had the lobster rolls and they were amazing. The full menu looked great as well and the decision was tough but we were glad that we tried them.

Oysters are better than Hilton Head’s, Service is as good as any 5 star restaurant. I can’t wait for my next lunch at Fontaine’s. In my view among the very top of the pile for a quality meal

Went there with a couple friends that know the area well. It was one of their favorite places and I agree. Great food and nice outdoor eating space too! Don't care for the "valet" parking though, they basically drive your car about 10 feet from where you drop it off, waste of time and money. Anyway I really like the restaurant!

We started with oysters and mussels. Both were fresh and tasty. We stuck with fish and it was also fresh and tasty. The place is a little loud but that is part of the atmosphere. The best part of the evening was our waitress. She was very attentive and pleasant. I'd come back and check out the spicy food.

My husband and I celebrated our 22nd Anniversary while staying in Atlanta and decided to go to Fontaine's Oyster House to celebrate. Maya was our server and she was FANTASTIC! She was fun to talk with and quick to get our order to us. The oysters were delicious and everything else we had was superb. We will be back for sure and will be asking for Maya as she made our dining experience very memorable.

Nice place to have a great night out with your staff. There is free valet parking around the corner. We were seated in a private room up front but ask to sit outside on the deck, great views. Menu was a filled with a nice selection and prices were good. I had the lobster mac and cheese, but at $25, it needed more flavor. The crab cakes were good. The calamari was good, the rice balls good and the dip One draw back is there is only one check, and had asked if we could get the drinks at the bar and they said yes, but when there they wanted it on one check. a pain, The lb of crab legs came with a hot butter mixture with oils and margarine, we asked for regular butter, much better.

Fontaine's is a staple in Virginia Highlands. Awesome service, thanks Kadar! Oysters are always perfect, properly shucked, and tasty! we also ordered fried shrimp and steamed shrimp. Both were great and the fried shrimp have a unique corn meal batter that is different from anything else. They also have a selection of craft brews, as well as bottled beer. I also had a Bloody Mary that was properly prepared and served. this restaurant is heads and tails over other places with inferior food like Taco Mac.

The staff is awesome, the clientele kind of suck.

I have wanted to try this restaurant for some time. I finally made it on a Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, it is hard to review since we never got served after being seated. We finally left.

Good seafood!!

This is our go to restaurant in the Virginia Highlands. Excellent food and good service. We always eat al fresco. Very pleasant ambiance.

great drinks including specialties, cold beers, great food including some non-traditional items, the best oysters and all served in a warm and fun atmosphere by great bartenders in a seasoned destination neighborhood bar. Other company owned locations include the Highland Tap, (next door), and Steam House Lounge at 11th and Spring.

The food is really good. Check out the shrimp Tacos. $12 crabs on Wednesdays. I haven't had a bad meal yet!

Grab a friend and get their cold seafood platter. It's excellent!

Fontaine's was quite busy for a Tuesday night, we arrived around 8 pm. The deck had a good vibe and our server was pleasant and speedy. We each ordered the lobster roll. Having grown up in New England and enjoyed many lobster rolls, I can say with confidence that I know the taste and texture of lobster. My roll may have had two tiny pieces of real lobster and the rest was something else. We asked the server to check on that and he came back saying the manager said it was Maine lobster. I disagree.

This is a great spot in the Va.- Hi area. They are well known for the variety of oysters they shuck each night. Eat them fried, baked, broiled or raw.. they are always great. They have all the standard cajun goodies one might expect. Rice balls with andouille, catfish, grouper, crawfish, bisque, oyster stew, gumbo, muffalettas, towers of ice cold seafood, baskets of perfectly fried seafood, hot dogs and hamburgers. This place has been around for many years and has a loyal following. They also have oysters on the half shell half price on Tuesdays. This is one of my go to spots when craving my cajun fixes.

We were quickly greeted upon arrival and asked if we would like indoor or outdoor heated. We chose outdoor. Server was quick and responsive. Heaters were nice bonus. Oysters were delicious, server did a great job upselling us to the middle of the road oysters and not the standard oysters. Fried pickles were great...not greasy or all stuck together. Our entrees: crab cakes w/fried okra and salmon wtih sweet potato fries. Both entrees came out steaming hot. To cut into a meal and see the steam come out is the best! My only negative - promote your special...it was on the bottom of the menu for me to read last. I had no idea Sunday was Bloody Mary's for $4.00 until I had ordered wine. I would have had a bloody mary instead. Put it on a sign when you walk in, servers talk about it, table tents on the table...

I hesitated to write this review, but decided that other patrons may appreciate our honesty. We were having dinner and found a roach on our table. I'd love to go back, but know it's not clean and hope that management will do something about this situation.

Had a late lunch here on a Saturday. Great Bloody Mary and the grouper poor boy was very good. Service was a bit slow.
Love the food
I enjoy going here!! I enjoy the crab cakes , real crab meat with just the right kick of spice. Wish they had better cocktails
