great breakfast

By Linda D |

we went here twice on our recent visit to Austin and both times the food didn't disappoint. Its a very busy place and although we didn't need to book we saw that others after us had to wait on a table. The service was brilliant and the menu selection very good.

We went to Forthright based

By Dena R |

We went to Forthright based on the reviews and all 4 of us were disappointed. The espresso machine was down, another item was out, the special was not provided to our friends, etc. They just seemed unorganized all around and the food was adequate at best. Given all the great restaurants in Austin, we would not go back here again.

Almost everything is delicious

By D M |

Get there early for a table. Otherwise, expect to wait. Lots of various options and all very tasty. I got the biscuits and gravy and was unexpectedly disappointed. For a "all homemade, southern-inspired" restaurant, their biscuits are like lead weights..dense but not in a good way. But other than the biscuits, everything else here is incredibly tasty. Service is spotty too. Trying to get coffee refills takes much effort and many attempts.

Delicious Sunday brunch

By Z5663JKstephanieb |

We came for last minute Sunday brunch with no reservation. There was an hour wait as it's so popular which didn't bother us (so maybe book in advance if you don't want to wait) - they take your phone number and text you when the tables ready. We sat at the bar, we could see into the kitchen and the staff were great. We had the chicken Benedict and pork belly hash which were both delicious! And a couple of aperol spritz. We had a fun time and good food - perfect to start your Sunday.

Worth the Wait

By bigjoe950 |

After a short wait we were seated outside. The day was perfect and the outside area was neatly kept and clean. Our waitress, who had the patience of a saint, answered all of my wife's 10 or so questions about the menu. The coffee was delicious, and I drank it black...unusual for me as I normally add cream, but it wasn't needed; the coffee was that good. My wife ordered the fabulous avocado toast while I had waffles. We split a fruit cup that was quite fresh for February. Austin is full of excellent restaurants, but we're certainly glad we ate at Forthright.

A Hidden Gem

By Baronreads |

Thank God for the sandwich board out on the sidewalk. This restaurant is in the San Jacinto Center building in the back corner. A hidden gem. I chose this breakfast restaurant for its gluten free options and it didn’t disappoint. I never get to order avocado toast because a lot of places don’t offer GF bread, so of course I had to have it. The bread was from a local source and held up well as a toast. The poached eggs were beautiful. The blend of flavors was perfect. Even the arugula on the side was a nice addition, dressed lightly with oil and vinegar. My husband had the hollandaise and said it was delicious and filling. Side of bacon, yum! And the coffee did not come out of a pot, it had the light “coffee foam” on top and was oh so smooth. Our server was super helpful and friendly. Dine in or out. I love it when I find a place like this in our travels. Definitely would eat here again and highly recommend.

Waste of time

By klyap10 |

The food here was good. We waited 2 hours for a table then when we sat down the bartender decided she was cutting us off because we came in with drinks from a place where we were waiting for the table. The service was ok except for the hostess that was a miserable person and should not be working in the service industry. There are plenty of better places in Austin leave this off your list!!!

Flexible, friendly and fast

By Jeff D |

We used Forthright for our breakfast needs for a 24 person golf group. The entire staff was outstanding. When guys changed their orders, the cafe jumped on it and had everything prepared before we arrived in individual bags with names. Food quality was top notch. I had the breakfast burritos. Excellent!

Great Brunch atmosphere!!

By Colin N |

I had both breakfast and brunch at Forthright three days in a row July 3-5 and was definitely impressed with the quality and presentation of food. I especially enjoyed my pomegranate mimosa served by the awesome Toni behind the bar!! The vibe there is definitely upbeat, and it is clearly a popular hangout for the local crowd. If I'm ever in Austin again, I will definitely drop by.

Great spot.

By Nathan D |

Really good breakfast/brunch spot. Service was quick and food was really good. Enjoyed it and would head back next time.

Eggs and bacon, no bread please.

By CeliacExplorer |

If I didn't have a dietary restriction, I would LOVE Forthright. My friend's fried chicken and waffles looked amazing. Despite the dire consequences, I actually thought about stealing a piece. That said, the server was knowledgeable about celiac and hospitable about confirming her menu recommendations with the chef. Because the kitchen is small, cross contamination is an issue, so I ordered fruit, eggs, and bacon--all of which were cooked to perfection, and the seasoning on the eggs was fantastic--travelers with less serious gluten concerns have gluten-free waffle and toast options. On another note, half the seating is outside, so, if the weather is unfavorable, expect an even longer wait--but the staff will keep the mimosas coming while you do!

Delicious upscale brunch!

By Cara F |

We went here for my sisters bachelorette party for brunch and the food was amazing! Everything is so unique and has an upscale feel - but it's priced just right. We loved the avocado toast and mushroom, eggs, potato dishes. This was a great find and a really cute spot inside. They take reservations and set us up in the back with plenty of space! Great for groups.

Words better than actions

By gmkWhitchurch |

We took a hike across Austin for breakfast as the words on the website promised a lot. Sadly the staff do not deliver. Ignored by the guy at the door when we arrived so as first timers we had no idea what to do. The girl behind the counter was equally unhelpful so we waited to be served coffee that we should have poured ourselves. Very un-Austin like where we have usually found service great. Two stars because the food was ok and because one waitress actually was helpful. Hopefully, we just hit a bad day.

The food was good and that was it

By Kelsey H |

The food really was good, but the rest of the experience was sub par. We called ahead to be put on a waitlist and they told us they’d put us down but we should be able to be seated right away since they weren’t busy. We got there and ended up having to wait about 20 minutes. We were finally seated and it took forever for out server to come over. She even stopped by and said she wasn’t out server and then came back about 5 minutes later and said that she was. We immediately ordered but it took an excruciating amount of time for the food to come out. It took almost another 10 minutes for us to get our drinks and they came with a couple cracked glasses with sharp edges. When our food finally did come, the entrees didn’t have sides and the waitress seemed confused when we asked her about it. We double checked the menu and it clearly stated that they came with specific sides. The whole staff seemed to be very confused on how to work at a restaurant. They were very slow and unorganized. Their only saving grace is that the food really was good. It’s a shame their service isn’t better.

Great Brunch Spot

By Frank T |

Forthright is a hip and stylish brunch spot. Food is delicious, they offer a lot of different twists on classics like egg sandwiches, chicken and waffles, etc. Great coffee and good boozy breakfast drinks. Overall great experience.

Great service, food was okay

By MexicotoNYC |

Hi! I finally feel like reviewing places again. I was in Austin just this last weekend visited a few places. This one was one of them. Made a reservation online, easy. Didnt have the option of selecting indoors or outdoors, at least I did not see one. We arrived and I asked for a table indoors and didn't get it, and they had tables for 2 available. I was like, okay, no big deal. I would have preferred to be indoors as it has a nice indoor space. Food was okay, not amazing. Service was great and our drinks were too.

Unique brunch options

By lori h |

The Americana breakfast and the hash with poblano peppers were fantastic! The zucchini bread was delicious and moist.

Great spot for a light lunch

By Paul McDowell |

My hotel concierge recommended as I wanted something light for lunch. I was met by a delightful smiling young lady and ordered the Mediterranean salad bowl with grilled salmon. The salad was good with perfectly grilled salmon steak still moist inside. Accompanied by a delicious Pinot Grigio, this was a lovely lunch served promptly by another friendly and smiling lady. I chose to sit outside on the deck with the only downside being the noise from adjoining building works, which is a pity for this place, but hopefully finished soon.

Absolutely amazing brunch

By Great Pyrenees Lover |

I just finished an incredible brunch at Forthright. The food was sensational. I had their amazing strawberry waffle which was among the best I have ever had. And the sides of sausage and hashbrowns were perfect. Plus the service was super friendly and the food came out quickly. There is a reason that this place is packed. Go here.

One of the Best!

By laurie4276 |

Really hard to get a reservation and we had to wait an hour for a table, but well worth the wait! We had the wild mushroom toast but I had scrambled instead of poached which was so flavorful and the bread was so outstanding. We also had the avocado toast with potato latke that was so out of this world and lastly we had egg white omelet with cheese, potato latke and gluten free zucchini bread. Hands down one of the best breakfasts in Austin. Once you get seated the service is outstanding and the food comes out so fast. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who asks what is the best breakfast in Austin! Bravo! So glad you reopened, we missed you!!

Fabulous Forthright Is A True Find!

By Debra D |

We solved the question of "what will be open for breakfast on Christmas Eve morning? by happily found Forthright Cafe. We had a delicious breakfast in a lovely setting with outstanding service! The food was so well prepared --- fresh ingredients and appealing presented. I had the avocado toast with 2 poached eggs and my partner had the equally delicious mushroom toast with a very delicate cream sauce and 2 poached eggs. Both are served on a delicious grain toast. We shared each dish and it was a tie as to which was the best! Yes, avocado toast has become kind of a "fad" dish but don't let that stop you from the wonderful experience of enjoying the version at Forthright. There's a small patio that would be a great place in nice weather --- and would give us the chance to try their lunch and/or dinner items. Finally, every staff member was warm, welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful. Forthright Cafe is a gem of a place.

No Parking, Great Food+Coffee

By cytjld |

I live in walking distance of this place but if you don't then parking is probably going to be an issue...well it's just like parking anywhere downtown. They serve Sight Glass coffee and their baristas are top notch so get coffee when you come here for sure. I ordered a kale Caesar with seared salmon and it was perfectly dressed and crisp with the salmon tasting very fresh and not over seasoned. My companion ordered a sandwich and soup which he raved about but I neglected to try. The interior is well appointed and is a soft modern cafe with a decent amount of seating for the space. This place is very solid for a lunch spot or coffee spot and would have closer to 5 stars if parking wasn't an issue.

PERFECT breakfast, PERFECT spot

By Konstantina M |

This was an unexpected treat, that was a sidewalk sandwich board discovery., Delicious food . Cute ambience . Awesome service . Perfect tea. Not packed and noisy. Chill. I was so happy with my lucky discovery

FORTHRIGHT IS NOT FORTHRIGHT ABOUT THERE SERVICE!!!!!

By Michaelangelo P |

Absolute worst breakfast experience I've ever had in Austin Texas go here if you wanna have your time wasted and just wait for an hour and get nothing and then be treated like your stepchild. We waited for 45 minutes they forgot to put in our order and they lack the managerial skills actually show any customer service. We left hungry without even an I'm sorry. Will NEVER return!

Start with a basket of biscuits

By Taylor B |

At Forthright, a popular boutique coffee shop and restaurant in downtown Austin, Texas, the conventional thing to do is start with a basket of four house-made biscuits with honey butter and jam and a cup of Counter Culture coffee. Located at 35 Brazos Street, on the first floor of the San Jacinto Center, in the Four Seasons Complex, at the intersection of Brazos and Cesar Chavez, this cafe and leafy patio is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Monday and serves Classic American and Central Texas breakfast and brunch fare. The interior is very spiffy with white furniture and tall windows. The food is spiffy, too. After the biscuits, my wife and I had a cinnamon roll and zucchini bread. My wife ordered the Breakfast Melt, two scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese and chipotle mayo on a brioche Texas toast served with red bliss potatoes and pork sausage. I opted for the American Breakfast with two Vital Farms free range eggs with sourdough toast and house-made jam, garlic butter herb roasted red bliss potatoes and a pork sausage patty. In Texas, breakfast always seems to be the most important meal of the day.

High end brunch stop

By Nicole S |

I came to Forthright for Easter brunch with my family. We did not make reservations but we're seated within a half hour. They had a buffet for the holiday and was so happy to sample multiple menu items. The avocado toast was delicious and the chicken and waffles was amazing. The mimosas were made with fresh squeezed OJ. Everything was delicious. My only complaint was the hostess was very snooty towards some of the people waiting. The manager that was on and the rest of the staff was very nice and quite accommodating during such a busy holiday brunch.

Epic Brunch

By Hatteras D |

Chicken and waffles to die for! Bacon was also awesome. Definitely would get a reservation next time so I don't have to wait

Quick stop next to the congress bridge

By billnay2016 |

Great menu for a breakfast/brunch with several healthy options, but a lot of nice southern dishes and sauces for the eggs.

yummy!

By Alicia T |

I got the waffle sandwich and it was magical. I thought it was very good and the atmosphere was pleasant.

Morning Breakfast

By a p |

We looked up Forthright through the internet. It sounded great. The set up is, order at the counter then its self serve after that. Don't request a gratuity at the counter! Never the less we sat at the outside patio. When the pressed coffee arrived at our table, I asked for the cream and sugar...."its at the counter" the young lady said. No service! So here I go looking for the "counter". I get what we needed. Then the food arrives and not salt, pepper on the table, so I mention, "I guess we need to help our selves to the self serve table for the salt and pepper?" He did bring us silverware, instead of the plastic utensils at the self serve table. Imagine this; one has to go and grab the cream (you have to pour it in a glass), sugar, salt, pepper, utensils and napkins....try carrying all this stuff on one trip, then open a door to the go to the patio, too many trips! Where's my server tray? NO THANKS! I have to say, the food was great. There was only a hand full of people, however, I think it would be nice and courteous if the attendants would help support the customers. This self serve business is out dated for the appeal this restaurant promotes on their website. The patio is nice, however, if you like the city noise, smelling vehicle exhaust, and looking at cars rushing in and out of the parking structures, this is your place. Sit inside, it has a nicer appeal. Picture attached.

Super slow

By Balazo8 |

Good food and location. Friendly, hip staff. But man will you wait, and not because it’s crowded. 6 staff, 5 costumers, and I had a 30 min wait for a chicken sandwich. Next time I’ll pass and instead walk across the street to Fareground.

Great food!

Fresh & delicious food in a bright & airy setting! I had a light breakfast with my husband. The coffee is amazing

A Fresh Start To The Day

By Tom L |

Forthright is located in an office/condo building facing Lady Bird Lake. It is a bit tricky to find but please persevere. The space is very bright and airy with clean minimalist lines. The staff is nattily attired and insure that you are well cared for throughout your meal. We sat at the bar and witnessed the action in the kitchen The breakfast menu has many interesting dishes that are non traditional. Full points for creativity. We settled on Buttermilk Waffles, Avocado Toast and coffees. Total cost before tip was $30. After your breakfast/brunch you can exit through the back of the restaurant for a very pleasant walk along Lady Bird Lake. Forthright is a satisfying place to begin your day.

Outstanding!!! (But Make That Rez Day Before!)

By RJillMaxwellAZ |

Even my husband, who typically bitterly complains about those gluten-free options, was raving about how great everything tasted! Being in the industry is both a blessing and a curse. Let me honest: we aren’t just “foodies,” we are food snobs, completely spoiled. Forthright not only further spoiled our tastebuds, they lived up to their name ... except for the AWFUL wait! Forthright needs a better way to handle their popularity. Why the 5 rating then? Food can’t be that good, you say. Well, our server, Will, was pleasant, efficient, and remembered everything; the kitchen PUMPS out it’s delectables hot, delicious, and fast; and the host with the tablet in hand this last Sunday was gracious, smiling, professional, and just delightful to pester (think most of us do this when we have to wait so long). We WILL return and likely choose to make a reservation day before 😉

Chicken & Waffles

By Lindsay L |

We visited Forthright for breakfast. The menu offered a selection of alternative breakfast items. I opted for the chicken and waffles, non US visitors, if you like bacon/ sausage with pancakes and syrup, you should enjoy this delight. The service was friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend.

Awful

By roth2017 |

Visited for breakfast at recommendation of concierge at Hilton. Served a pre-made who knows when breakfast taco that was wrapped in foil which stuck to the cheese. Staff were incompetent and more interested in their phones. No clean tables were available to sit at although there were 3 that easily could have been cleaned if staff had any initiative. I haven't seen such poor work ethic in a long time. Americano coffee was fine once it arrived but my husband's latte wasn't great--he did like the tiny biscotti that came with it.

Good breakfast spot

By Karolina G |

Seems like a popular place and we had to wait for 30 min for a table. Once we got seated the service was fast and attentive. There wasn't that many vegetarian options, which was a bit disappointing. But I had avocado toast and it was tasty, but a bit on the smaller side. Also had some french toast on zuccini bread that was pretty good. The coffee we ordered was a bit weak, but waiter got us a new brew when we pointed that out. The place itself is felt a bit sterile and had somewhat a hotel lobby feel to it but the vibe was good and there was a good mix of people.

Great coffee here!

By StueyB |

Dropped in this morning for a light breakfast and coffee. Lots of parking, staff friendly, prompt service and the Waffles were really enjoyable!

Mother’s Day Brunch lacking

By Corky C |

I don’t normally write too many reviews but this place used to be a favorite. They have limited service due to lack of staff, understandable but the eggs were cold (Ice cold)) the bacon was greasy, the bread like a brick. The attitude of “servers” aka delivery people was poor. I doubt I’ll go back after many visits pre Covid. Everyone has this problem in the hospitality industry and I’m sorry. It’s not acceptable.

Nothing special

By Nico260 |

Nice light place, pleasant and efficient service but everything except the eggs on my American breakfast was burned. Other people's avocado looked great though.

Lovely “lunch counter”

By Tsand1002 |

Have only been once for lunch but would certainly return. My chicken pesto panini was good but the wild mushroom toast was amazing!

Breakfast at Forthright

By belrog122017 |

I had eggs and bacon which were cooked just right.. brown bread and a coffee. It was a good breakfast.

Excellent bunch spot

By allison1236 |

Went here with 1 other person and we got the mushroom toast with eggs and avocado toast with eggs. Can’t decide which was better. Was a good portion size that kept us full for hours. Fresh healthy ingredients and cooked perfectly. Would definitely go back.

Busy, Average Food

By Steven Y |

While in town for a business conference I had some free time for breakfast. Food was OK - not bad, not great. Lost my colleagues order and waited 25 minutes, had to ask for food 2x before it was finally delivered.

Forthright

By Tim R |

This is a busy little spot, sort of out of the way. It gets busy for weekend breakfast/brunch but the tables turn over quickly. Service is good, prompt and knowledgeable. The Latkes were a little more like Tater Tots than the lacy fried filament of an authentic Latke. Bacon was a little too fatty to be done crisp. The result was dry and lacked flavor

Excellent food terrible service

By Lucy L |

Amazing food! Have found it hard to eat well in the states and finally found a cafe with a quality menu and not a heart attack on a plate. Delicious. Service however was shocking. Staff were incredible rude and literally chucked our food on our table once finding out she gave us the wrong order and my drink was left out to get cold for ages before someone gave it to me. It arrived freezing. Very rude staff but incredible food!

I’m over this place

By Tammy C |

I have given this restaurant a lot of money over the last few years. But they won’t get another penny from me. I’m sick of them always being late with our corporate order. I’m sick of them treating us bad, for being upset that they can’t seem to make 5 pieces of toast in a timely fashion. Today I ask for the owners number when I found out the man who had been so rude to me was their GM. He did walk back out and tell me that they could do it faster if it was a standing order. But we’ve literally ordered every Tuesday and Thursday for over a month. It’s been late every. Single. Time. I guess they’re doing so well that they feel they can treat their patrons any way they want. Well, this is the reason good restaurants fail, bad customer service, late orders, and bad management.

Avocado toast !!

By ERIC W |

We were in Austin for the weekend and stayed at the Fairmont just down the street. We wanted to walk to breakfast and find something on the healthy side. We both ordered the Avocado Toast and absolutely loved it. Good service and very fair pricing

Best Brunch!!

By Ellen B |

I hate to share this amazing brunch spot because I'd like to keep it all to myself, but it's just too darn good not to share! At this small, bright breakfast/brunch place, farm-to-table comfort food gets a creative twist without becoming pretentious. Pork belly perfection is found in the eggs Benedict and BELT. I would have snapped a pic of the food, but I was too busy eating! Add in that Bloody Mary and I may never leave! Just go already and thank me later!

Excellent, try the waffle sandwich

By Scott S |

Excellent choice for brunch. We split avocado on toast and a waffle sandwich. The waffle sandwich was amazing -- basically like an Egg McMuffin to the 10th power. The avocado toast was also great. We sat on patio, good service, excellent ambience, wait time not bad for a Sat morning. We waited maybe 45 minutes.

Awful communication and ride staff

By Christa C |

I called to make an order and they told me I had to make it online so I did and when I got there I asked to pick it up the girl told me to wait who was very rude on the phone so I waited and when I asked where my order was they told me they had cancelled it and try to call me which was a lie and the order wasn't even for me it was for someone else so I was the one that ended up looking bad because of their mistake so I will never go to that place again whether it's for someone else or anything it was awful awful experience awful people it was just awful

Yelp Let Me Down Once Again

By Gina-from-TX |

Yelp loves this place, not sure why. If you do decide to go enter on Brazos street and park in the parking lot that is free for an hour. I went on a weekday morning so most of the crowd was grabbing and going but silly me sat down thinking I would get waited on. Noooo, did get some polite stares from the staff until I figured out that one orders at the cash register. Since I was not grabbing and going and told that to the person taking my order, I was taken back when I was handed a cold waffle on a plate w/o syrup, butter or utensils. Really? Had to ask to have the waffle warmed and for butter, if that was not too much trouble. Got said waffle back lukewarm, mind you there was not an offer to serve a fresh one, and the butter was came cold. So now I am putting straight from the refrigerator cold butter on my not fresh lukewarm waffle and wondering what the hype is about. If that waffle had been fresh and hot, it would have been pretty darn tasty but guess I had better go back to 24 Diner or try Snooze and keep my fingers crossed.

Drinks before bats

By Iglesias R |

Lovely place great vibe and decor. Stopped by to have a drink and appetizer before the bats. Unfortunately our waitress/ bartender was in training and had no idea what a vodka martini was or how to make one despite the fact that they had a full bar when we asked for a vodka soda instead she said they had no mixers I ordered one of the specialty drinks from the menu which she was able to make and far more complicated than a martini and husband settled on a proceso. The drink was good but she never asked or bothered to let us know what apps might be available since the only menus at hand were the breakfast/ lunch one. Left hungry and not as buzzed we had hoped

Great food, slow service

By Amanda G |

We went for breakfast and were told it would be a 10 minute wait with just a couple people ahead of us. After over half an hour we noticed that people who had arrived after us were getting seated so we checked with the hostess and they forgot about us somehow. The coffee and food were great - lots of gluten free options which is nice well as standard American breakfast food so everyone was happy. The food came pretty fast, but they didn't add the eggs to our sandwiches. Overall, we enjoyed the meal but didn't think it was worth the wait.

Excellent Spot for Breakfast/Brunch

By HoustonFoodAndWine |

On our way to eat somewhere else we happened to see Forthright's sign on the sidewalk pointing to the restaurant. On a whim we decided to check out the menu, which eventually lead to us eating breakfast here. We all enjoyed our food and drinks and found the service to be accommodating.

Cute for breakfast!

By Bri M |

This spot was really cute for breakfast! We sat on the patio and it was lovely. The staff was knowledgable and had lots of glute free options.

Nice place for Breakfast

By questtraveler01 |

First time at Forthright. The scrambled eggs, toast, and bacon were nothing super special but the french toast was really good. Good cappuccinos. I saw the avocado toast & chicken n waffles go by...those dishes looked amazing. Would like to go back to try more of the breakfast items.

Great foods for those with problems with gluten

By Bill B |

My wife, daughter and grand daughter and I ate here on Thursday this week. The restaurant is just off the lobby of an office or residential tower, not easy to spot, no large signs. The food was great. I had a veggie burger and a side salad, my wife had an avocado toast, and my daughter had pork belly hash. My grand daughter is 2 and she ate a bit of everyone else's food, along with a quinoa brulee. Reasonably priced. You order at the counter and pay, then you find a table and they find you by numbers handed out when you pay. My daughter is gluten intolerant, so we thought we would try this restaurant, worth the searching. Seats maybe 40, some at the counter. We spent a total of $56 for our food and a pot of hot tea.

MMM BRUNCH!!!!

By Joey29615 |

Had Brunch here on Saturday morning. Everything was so good. We had forgotten to call ahead and were told there was about a 45 min wait so we left our info and walked along the Greenbelt while we were waiting. Table was ready in the stated time frame. My partner had a Bloody Mary & I took a Cafe Mocha, both were delicious! For our meal we split a cinnamon bun, I had the Chicken & Waffles & he the Breakfeast Sandwich. Again both were perfect!!!

What a great little find within 1 minute walking from the hotel!

By TxMarineVet |

Great little restaurant with a very select menu (brunch). I ordered the avocado sandwich and it was delightful and perfect!! Our server was new to the restaurant, very professional, and when the server didn't know something about the menu when questioned, they were truthful and let us know. I hope management makes sure that the waitstaff get's to try every awesome product on the menu as it is jam packed with many great choices in the limited (perfect) selection. There are too many great items on this menu for a server not to have tried them all. Disclaimer: I am a 20+ year restaurant veteran, having worked in Houston, Austin, and College Station in the business. I will be back, a great place!!

Arrogant Staff Won't Seat Customers Despite Open Tables

By Parker |

Food is good, but the staff is aloof and arrogant.  There will be plenty of tables available, but they won't seat you (require a 30-min wait) to present an image of exclusivity.  They foolishly won't take same day reservations.  Staff members act busy and have conversations while tables are fully served but then fulfill incomplete/inaccurate to go orders.  This childish behavior contradicts high quality service and will result in customers abandoning this place

Great hidden gem

By Shofsan |

This place is a little hard to find if you're not looking out for the sign on the sidewalk, or happen to work close by. It's a order café style, with a cozy feel to it. The food is delicious! Only thing that wasn't too great was the service was a bit slow. If you're not in a hurry, then you're fine... I had the grilled chicken pesto Panini and a latte. Delicious!

Excellent brunch!

By Christina S |

We went for brunch this weekend, and it was delightful! The chicken and waffles was absolutely delicious! I also had a taste of the croque-monsier, and I loved that as well. We often brunch at the same restaurant every weekend, but I'm glad we took a step out of our comfort done to check this spot out this weekend!

Fun breakfast spot

By Margaret G |

We discovered this spot on a walk -located near the Four Seasons. Quaint cafe-all made fresh daily. We sat at the counter and tried the Avacado Toast, berry French toast , veggie burger. All were delicious and unique.

Terrible, bland

By Mayo51 |

We had the pork belly, served with sweet potatoes, onions and peppers, two fried eggs .... terribly disappointing. Wish we had tried somewhere else for brunch. Cafe was empty and the food was so so bland, while the pork belly was dried and if it had been cooked hours before. Go somewhere else! We were very disappointed with our restaurant choice. :(

Bad food, worse coffee

By myjudge2 |

Espresso with a shot of mocha tasted like syrup. Eggs were fluffy and tastless like the ones that come out of a wax carton. They don't have honey or cream for the coffee, only sugar and chemicals. The place is one of the most expensive we've visited for breakfast and by far the worst.

Great breakfast

By Nora F |

We had a wonderful breakfast at Forthright. We had the sweet potato hash and the eggs Benedict, both with pork belly and it was so delicious. Also, the bloody mary was delicious (I had it spicy).

Great spot for brunch

By Belosttobefound22 |

Great brunch! The breakfast burger and chia seed pudding were fantastic. The biscuits were lacking, and the side of bacon wasn't cooked long enough for my liking. The mimosa and blood mary were both good and reasonably priced. Good airflow for eating outside in the heat. Pretty crowded inside.

Worth the wait

By Jennifer G |

We waited 45 min for a table on a Saturday morning. You can order coffee or mimosas while you wait. We were seated at the cutest corner table. The Bloody Mary was amazing. I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was just ok. My friend ordered the pork belly hash and it was so delicious. Also the avocado toast was yummy. It was a fun breakfast experience with friends.

Creative breakfast entrees, but busy, cold and at times indifferent service.

By davidandrose1 |

So, on a cold day there's no breezeway/porte cochere, so when the door is opened everyone in the restaurant can get rather cold fairly quickly. Be forewarned. Some interesting and creative breakfast entrees, but our frustration came with being promptly seated then ignored for 10 minutes. Although this smallish spot with 14-18 tables seating 2 - 4 people appeared to be well-staffed, nobody would make eye contact or speak for 10 minutes. Sadly not the first time I've experienced this in my few days in Austin.

Chicken & waffles, yum!

By JennyAGoGo |

Brought the college-student kid here because he was jonesing for chicken and waffles. This was a lovely place, but seriously difficult to find. Once we did find it, it was well worth the hunt. The chicken and waffles were delicious, and the cafe latte one of the best I've had in Texas.

Terrible

Had breakfast here this morning. Possibly the worst I ever had. Ordered Bacon, Sausage, toast and potato. We were the only two persons in the cafe so the service was quick. About 15 minutes. Breakfast was served before our coffee which was annoying but they did say that they were having problems with the coffee machine. The breakfast was essentially a plate of grease. It looked like they placed the sausage, bacon and potatoes into the deep fryer and poured them onto the plate. Disgusting.... The toast was tiny, $2 for what could only be described as a half a slice of toast. The spread was frozen solid and could not be used. The glasses of orange juice were tiny and were $3 each. There was no sugar, cream or spoons/stirrers on the table. My partner had waffles and these were even greasy. At $35 we feel raped. We are staying just around the corner in the 4 seasons so will have to find somewhere else for the next few days.

The view of the lake by the windows is very pleasant as are the wait staff. The manager will often check on you during the meal or at the end regarding the food and service.

Utterly outstanding

Amazing place. Had quick weekday breakfast (OMG, the avocado toast is divine) and came back with friends on a weekend. Add outside right off the river. Great service, great food.
