Funky vibe, great food

By Janet F |

Four Cafe was recommended, by the desk clerk at our hotel, for lunch while we waited to check into our rooms. (Full disclosure: our hotel room key gave us a 10% discount at this establishment.) Just walking in the door made for a mellow experience, since the decor is casual and the staff make genuine connections with everyone who comes in. Our party of 5 sat at a table to look at the menu, then a couple of us went to the counter to order. One of our party is a vegetarian and the menu gave her (and us omnivores) lots of options. The food is listed as natural and mostly organic and even the sodas are made in house. My veggie burger was very good, the curried cauliflower sandwich was said to be good, as was the cauliflower and chickpea stew. The lemon ginger soda was excellent. Food service was not speedy but, to be fair, a large party had ordered just before we came in, and we had lots of time that day. A staff member did come by and let us know we hadn't been forgotten and food was brought to the table according to the numbered postcard we were given at the cash. Since I forgot to present my room key when we paid for our order, I asked the cashier if we could have a couple of sodas to make up the discount - she enthusiastically agreed so we were all happy. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you prefer natural, organic and/or vegetarian food.

Great Local Eatery!

By LALyndaD81 |

I visited with my mother and was looking for a quick spot to grab a bite to eat in the 45 minutes we had. We luckily found metered parking right outside. This is a very casual cafe where you order at the counter, are given a number and the food is served at your table. All the menu items are fresh and seasonal. The wait time for the food was moderate and unfortunately, the cashier forgot about our dessert. I went up to the counter to ask for it and he said would bring it right out. About 5 minutes of so passed so I asked about it again while he was cleaning a table and he apologized that he forgot. Since we had an appointment to be at, we couldn't enjoy our peach cobbler entirely but the spoonfuls we did have, we enjoyed. Portions are reasonable as are the prices. They offer complimentary water as well as other standard beverages.

I think it's a bit overrated

By Mark W |

The food is fine, but not particularly good. A bowl of soup is a bit pricey at $10.50 and a slice of bread will be an extra $1. Kids' mac'n'cheese is always a bit cold in the center. They have decent beer and lots of vegetarian choices.

Very good food

I ate at Four Cafe for a wedding rehearsal dinner. The entire restaurant was reserved for us and the menu had been pared down to a few great choices. I had the Southwest Salad which was available with optional chicken or tofu. I asked for some BBQ Brisket to be added and was accommodated. The brisket was beyond excellent and the salad was crisp, fresh and lightly dressed....the way I prefer. My date had the brisket sandwich with a side salad. He reported it was delicious. The kitchen is on the small side and the service a bit slow. But then again, we were 40 people who descended upon the chef and her service staff. I recommend this restaurant and would happily return. I suggest looking up online to see the current menu.

Lots of things going for it.

By Linda F |

This restaurant has many things going for it. Location; fresh food; vegan and gluten free options; inside and outside dining; and pet friendly. To top that off, the staff is friendly and courteous. This was our first visit and we all enjoyed our food. I especially like the fishburger (not really a burger) and others also had burgers. An added bonus was that our dog could join us as we sat outside. Of course, the drawback is that the tables are adjacent to Colorado Blvd and it can be distracting for a dog. Parking along Colorado could be a problem sometimes but we pulled right into a spot.

Fresh & Delicious

I love this place. It's one of my favorites in Eagle Rock. It's one of the few places I can have a gluten-free sandwich in the LA area. Also, their meats are all natural and organic.

Best Things I Love About Dinner

By Erudite_journey |

This place is never let down! I brought two friends that never been here before and they loved it. It has the best of any items that I love for dinner: salad and dessert! Everything is fresh from the farm. All their desserts are gluten-free low-sugar and yummy as hell! Every thing is in-house. Although I had the fish dinner rather than the salad it was completely amazing it was halfway done before I thought to take a picture! The desert photo is called a Snickers bar. it's absolutely to die for! One of the nicest things was my friend really didn't care for the soup and they took it back with no questions asked and gave her whatever she wanted. she was very happy!

Delicious, fresh food with bright flavors.

Fresh, delicious smoky chicken bowl! It hit the spot after a long day of travel. The meal was perfectly filling without being heavy on a very hot day. The staff was nice.

Meh...

This place is great for the freshness, localness and organic options. They have tasty drinks that are made fresh daily as well as their baked goods. I have nothing bad to say about the food, drinks or pastries. The down fall here are the prices . It’s expensive to eat here for something that isn’t that unique or different. For 2 people- A fish burger and pulled pork sandwich with a salad and 2 drinks. Almost $60! That’s outrageous. I won’t go back again and will be extra careful when they open up another place down the street.

a Really good new place

By DLB49 |

Four is a terrific place. I had a a Vietnamese sandwich and two salads. The sandwich was superdelicious and the salads were awesome. one of the salads was a carrot with white-bean salad. As I was eating it I told my wife, "This salad is why it pays to eat out instead of at home." What I meant was that it was so delicious and i simpy couldn't figure out what everything was in the salad that made it taste so good. I had Cucumber Lemonade and that was delicious too. I am highly recommending this place.

Delicious New Experience.

Just had a lunch date here with my smokin' hot wife. We've been wanting to try this place and we're glad we did! I made the right choice with the Tempeh BLTA sandwich with the Gazpacho Andaluz. Excellent! Their preparation for the tempeh was delicious! My wife had the Picado Salad with tofu. It was a delightful and healthy mix of tasty veggies with an arugula base. We want to go back for the mahi mahi sandwich. It's their most popular dish.

Quirky seasonal menu

By MrsCDinLA |

Love exploring different food options and this place keeps my palate interested by changing their menu. They use a lot of produce in season and create great main and side dishes. I don't think I've ever had anything I didn't like. Highly recommend.

Fresh, organic, unusual and tasty!

Great food with unusual choices of salads, sandwiches, etc. Staff very friendly, patient, and helpful toward the first time customer. Quick delivery of food. Chill crowd.

Genuine quality food in pleasant casual surroundings

By Mike and Maria B |

This friendly, casual eatery attracts a strong local following - with good reason. The dishes are straightforward, but fresh and interesting, and the service quick and efficient. (Excellent outside catering is also available.) There is also a limited range of beers and wines on offer. Highly recommended.

good food, especially for more gourmet minded travelers

By Edmund B |

The food has always been very good. Sometimes a little different for my tastes but everyone in my group seems to love it. Interesting and unique foods but very healthy.

Great food

A variety of great food, and a casual, pleasant dining area. We especially liked the salads and wraps.

Fresh and delicious!

By travelingyogi |

This place has a great menu with fresh, delicious California cuisine. The salads are excellent -- the veggies seemed just picked and the lemony dressing I had was so tasty. I don't think I've ever ordered deviled eggs in a restaurant, but I'm glad I ordered them here -- they are very tasty with a little kick.

great refreshing lunch place

Nice place for lunch with tasty and interesting menu. The soup/sandwich combo is a great choice! Easy, casual and good !

Best Food in Eagle Rock... Period.

By KathrynandTim |

After over 30 years in northeast Los angeles I've tried everything including the taco trucks. Four Cafe has the most delicious food around, featuring a seasonal menu with something for everyone--even vegans. The generous salads come in 2 sizes and one can add meat or tofu; various sandwiches such as a veggie-burger come on fantastic bread; the daily soup specials are lovely, there's great mac-n-cheese and the baked goodies are worthy of a fine bakery. Don't forget their brunch menu offered on the weekends at which I'm hooked on the fried egg sandwich with cheese and arugula that comes with fried potatoes as good as I've ever eaten. What sets this place apart is how evolved and well thought out the dishes are, really gorgeously seasoned. Whatever you get is going to have a different edge and flavor that one finds elsewhere. For example, the subtlety dressed chickpea side salad with couscous has currants and pistachios in it, making it extraordinary and memorable. The service is efficient and friendly, prices reasonable (egg sandwich with potatoes--7 bucks) and families with kids seem to be very content here. Highly recommended.

Wonderful!

Really delicious, creative, seasonal, fresh. Barbecued garbanzo salad (that's right...I said barbecued garbanzo salad) is one of the best dishes I have had in quite a while. Wish I lived close enough to go every day!

Dinner

By mpls001 |

Went here for dinner after a friend raved about the food. Have to admit that the Coconut Corn Soup was really, really good. Prices were pretty decent as well. They are very bust so seating can be an issue - you order food at the counter and then find a seat. We tried to go for lunch one day but the line was out the door and it was chaos trying to figure out who was next and/or what was going on - no one from cafe managing the line. I'd go again, absolutely, but not for lunch - dinner seemed much calmer.......

A Little Jewel in Eagle Rock

By Hermine G |

To be honest, we stumbled on this place because Don Camilo's next door was closed. Now we come back to enjoy the fabulous food. The menu provides delicious choices for both meat-eaters and vegetarians (from a tempeh reuben to beef short ribs with grilled cheese) as well as house made natural sodas, great soups, unusual salads and irresistible desserts (chocolate lavender tart, mint chocolate pot de creme, vegan raw cheezecake, etc.) all at reasonable prices. They also serve breakfast on weekends, and they do catering. You can order online at www.fourcafe.net.

Very nice. A bit pricey

By cruiseagentandtaxman |

Salad portion sizes are very generous and very high quality. The pork sandwich, at $15, was a rip off considering how little meat was actually in it. Very high quality ingredients and nice selection. Just a little pricey for the value. However we would go again.

Fresh & Healthy

By KoziakProductions |

My only complaint about this restaurant is that they change the menu seasonally which is awesome and amazing but bad at the same time because some of my favorites go away until next year. Everything is super tasty but healthy and fresh too. LOVE the lavender shortbread cookies!

Great Looking Menu

By Swisscss |

The menu looked so good all around it was hard to choose what to order! We settled on the Grilled Veggie Salad with Chicken and it was really good. It was enormous but I would have rather had more grilled veggies than so much lettuce. The Basil Lemonade was really good and their staff was young, hip and handsome. You should definitely try Four Cafe.. it is refreshingly creative.

Fresh, interesting food; good service

By ilovebirdsky |

We stopped in for a late lunch in February. Loved the menu selections. We settled for delicious split pea soup, a wonderful beet salad and a glass of wine. The atmosphere was great. The decor is very creative with lots of wood. There is seating outside on the street as well.

Wanted a salad, got it!

I went there for lunch and ordered a Spring Salad. Enjoyed every bite. It was rich in ingredients and the dressing was lite and tasty, Went there again a few days later and ordered the same salad. Although it was good the ingredients slightly varied...

Wonderful and Hearty Salads

By RobInWisconsin |

A terrific place, with wonderfully fresh food, presented with interesting flavors. My wife and I both had salads, and while not cheap, they are huge and hearty. I would welcome a return visit.

Great dinner and the deserts are awesome!

By Donald M |

Had dinner here tonight and really enjoyed the quality of the food. They have a diverse menu, offering something for everyone. They do serve beer and wine, which isn’t apparent when you first walk in to the place. They also feature specialty drinks, I had a ginger and cranberry concoction that was excellent. The grandkids had bow tie pasta, my wife had chili, I had a very good turkey sandwich, with Swiss cheese and sliced apples, along with arugula salad. Before we left we had to order deserts to take home. Incredible baked goods! We had the apple pie, some cookies, and a pumpkin cupcake. Awesome! Very family friendly and reasonably priced.

Delightful, Fresh and Local

By Chasmo99 |

A great vibe, friendly service and delicious food at a reasonable price - really what more could you want? The roasted root veggie salad was excellent - fresh, substantial and nourishing - visually as well as filling. I'd come again. BTW the chocolate flourless cake is to die for!
