No better place to be on a nice day!

By heather H |

Sat outside at picnic tables, loved the food selection. Beers were great. Even brought the kids who were entertained with the ping pong tables. An absolute fun time with surprisingly good food. Must get curry spiced ketchup!

What's not to love?

By jim_u_e610 |

What's not to love? Good German beer plus some American ringers for those who can't leave their house without soaking themselves in hoppy IPAs. Frankford Hall is a casual, fun loving bar with an authentic German style outdoor beer garden. Decent enough food to soak up the old school German Hefe's, Pilsners and Lagers that are sometimes hard to find on tap at non-German establishments in the US. There's no table service...just the bar for the beer and the counter for the snacks..so plan to get up and move around a lot. There's Ping Pong, Baggo, Foosball, Jenga...it's really a beer loving ADD sufferer's dream and as I write this I'm wondering why I don't go there more often.

Awesome Beer Garden and Brats!

By Whitney B |

I love coming here for a Kasekraner (sp?) and sitting under the party lights. They put up heat lamps when it's cooler and there are fire pits too. You can play jenga or ping pong with friends while enjoying a beer.

Good Food Great Friendly Staff

Very casual with good food friendly staff very family friendly and if you are there in December the best Santa you have ever encountered.

Average Beer Garden

By Danielle D |

Pretty average bar. It was fun, but there wasn't a big crowd, although it was Sunday night so it was nice to get parking. We played Jenga a few times. The beer was overpriced and not my favorite. Definitely seemed like more of a dude bar.

I will be going back.

By Alad222 |

The atmosphere was great along with the food and drinks. I had the Spicy Bauernwurst and my friend had the Burger. Sausage was good but the burger was excellent. I enjoy visiting different restaurants with out door seating so this was up my alley. They have checker and ping pong tables. Children are welcome, which was nice. You seat yourself in the out door area, order at the counter and they give you a number so when your food is done they delivery it. All and all its a place I will visit again. My total bill for a burger Sausage and 2 drinks was $40.00.

Beer Garden and Sausagefest!

By TranFoodCritics |

This place is great! The food was really good and the large amounts of beer were good to. Steins! This was a fun event as my cousins and I went here for family bonding. We ordered some steins and the keg. It was a fun atmosphere, everyone standing around talking, people playing jenga, and people just enjoying themselves. This is a bar scene so don't expect to be able to hear people perfectly but it's a really nice scene with great food and German beers. I would recommend this place as a must go to when visiting Philly. Just a fun place to hangout and have fun. Oh everything is self ordered. So no waitress comes up, you go up to the bar and order your drinks, and you go up to the food bar to place your food order.

Great Spot for Some Outdoor Beers

By Bob H |

I have visited Frankford Hall on many occasions. The ample outdoor seating is nice and makes enjoying a liter of beer all the more enjoyable. There are plenty of heat lamps which keep it comfortable even when it gets a bit chilly. The food is pretty good and they have a generic version of Jenga to enjoy.

Something for Everyone

By Skymom4 |

Took the family for my husbands birthday, almost impossible to get four kids to all like something but they did. Adults started off with big beers and kids soda from bar. Then off to food window for s'mores milkshake and giant pretzels as appetizers. Loved them, but decided to try a few things to share. We had the schwein oxen which was a thing of beauty. Frankfurter, bratwurst, potato pancakes, and cheese spaetzel. All were great. The only thing I did not think was authentic was the red cabbage, which was good but not as sweet as I was hoping for. Ping pong tables and Jenga kept the family busy. Everyone already planning our next visit.

Feels like we were in Germany again!

Great beer garden! Many choices with beer. Weinerschnitzl was very good. Sausages on the Miller roll was very tasty. Creamsicle drink was delicious and very refreshing. I will return again.

Fun Sunday afternoon

By desnudouno |

This is a fun place for us and our four year old son. We enjoy beers while he plays Jenga. Great German beer selection. Food is good enough. Bratwurst, knockwurst, and similar.

So fun!

This place is sooo much fun - especially in the fall! It draws a fun and lively crowd. They serve beer in big stein glasses and have good music and games at the tables. Good times.

Good food, good beer, and fun place

By RWM-JR |

My wife and I went to Frankford Hall for the first time on a Saturday late afternoon in March. The atmosphere is unique. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor area has fire pits and propane lamps keeping it warm. We couldn't get a seat outside so we sat inside at a table by the window. Most of the tables are similar to picnic tables that could seat 10-12 people. It's a self serve restaurant. There is one food window to order from and 2 bars. Once you order the food a server will bring it to your table. The food is basic German. We had a warm pretzel and potato pancakes for our appetizer and we each had a bratwurst for our main meal. All of the food was very good. The potato pancakes were perfect and the bratwurst was high quality. The beer selection is vast. It's mostly a German beer selection but there are also local craft beers on tap and domestic beer by the bottle. The prices were good for both the food and the beer. I was surprised that the prices weren't higher. Although the restaurant web site indicates that there is valet parking, there isn't. We parked nearby in the neighborhood. I expect that finding a parking spot on a busy night would be a problem. This was a fun place to go. They have ping pong and foosball tables inside and people were playing beer pong in the outside area. They also offer Jenga games at the tables. We will definitely return, hopefully soon. This would be an even better experience with a group of friends.

Worth the trip

By ManyJourneys01 |

We (4 adults) visited the Frankfort Beer Hall on a Thursday night. The bar was almost full although there were a few private parties going on. Grabbed a couple of beers ($5 half pint, $10 full pint) from the great selection and ordered some food. Highly recommend getting a pretzel as an app as well as an entree. Had the Veggie burger which can always be hit or miss. In this case it was very good so I would recommend. Others in the group had sausage/brats which they said were good. Someone remarked that it was odd they were served in hot dog rolls though...There is a large open outdoor section with a fire pit, propane heaters and adult Jenga, ping pong. Fun place! If you are not a local or from a big city I would be an Uber to and fro. If your from a big city or want the big city experience, take the “El” (Elevated Train) there and Uber home. The train stop is 2 blocks from the hall. Have a beer for me!

Always a Great Time!

By Sofia425 |

Everything about Frankford Hall is great. The food is amazing, and they have a great selection including various types of sausages with a vegetarian option. The pretzels and dip are a must! Aside from the food, the assortment of games from ping pong to Jenna and liter size beers, this place will please everyone!

Philly fun!

By mrdo43 |

So much fun. Outdoor beer garden with expansive offering of beers and some fine German bar food. Seating is at picnic tables which you'll have to share if your group doesn't fill the table. May be a line to get in.

Nice spot

By jasminaki |

Really nice spot considering the area wich i'm not fan.i went there because my friends like beers.i don't so i had a wine but i saw there were many beer options! Friendly staff.

Expected more

By PhiladelphiaNeena |

Went to Frankford Hall for the first time today. The space was great, and service was good but the food was mediocre. I had the bratwurst which was served on a Martin's potato roll. Really? Others at the table had the classic burger which looked like it came right out of the freezer. It was flat and not very tasty. Another person had the Kanzler burger which looked and tasted like a burger should--thick and juicy. It was hard to believe the burgers came out of the same kitchen. The fourth person had the Weisswurst, again on a Martin's potato roll. It is a fun place and everyone looked like they were having a good time but the food was very disappointing. I expected more of Stephen Starr restaurant.

Meh

By twoboysinNJ |

Maybe I was expecting something different but I wasn't impressed. The beer selection was very good and the food decent but the atmosphere was dusty bar with a stale beer smell.

Great up and coming neighborhood, fun spot!

By jen s |

This was our first visit to Frankford hall and we were not disappointed! It is a really fun German-style Beer Garden, complete with outdoor courtyard ( there was indoor seating as well) with picnic style tables, outdoor ordering stations , games and even heaters for the chilly spring weather. We have had some fantastic German food and Beer in Philadelphia, and Frankford hall lived up to their toughest competitors, in both quality of food and beer Selection. Highly recommend.

Awesomeness In a Glass - Best Boozy Spiked Milkshakes Ever!

By QueenOfPlastic |

We had just finished dinner when we heard about this place and had to stop in. It was a rainy Saturday night and the 4 of us just had to try the milkshakes everyone raved about. The place was packed with a good upbeat crowd. You order at the counter, take a number to your table & a staff person walks around with your order looking for you. We only ordered the milkshakes. 3 of us got the Honey Graham Milkshakes and one got the Orange Creamsicle. YUM! Just the right size and flavors. A must for any Ice Cream Dessert Lover out there. Gotta try these milkshakes!

Been here a few times with family and friends. Very nice atmosphere, good food, good drinks, good service. A nice place to go for lunch or a night out.

German style biergarten

By Lang H |

Fashioned after a German beer garden (though I can't say that I have visited the real deal). Some german draft beers on tap. Bitburger, Hofbrau, Paulaner... Food is so so. The space is inviting, cool, and well laid out. Lots of exposed brick, and natural wood. Used to be a functioning warehouse, maybe half century ago? Two professional quality outdoor table tennis (ping pong) tables. Foosball table, some imitation of the trademarked Jenga game called "Jumbling Tower" (it's quite a hit with patrons). Avoid on Friday night, or Saturday night, as a long queue may await you. Has heat lamps and fire-pit for cooler weather.

Great pre-concert spot

By OCJoe |

If you are headed to the Fillmore, this is the place to start your evening. The beer selection is varied and they are served in extra large steins. The German food is authentic and fills you up in the best way. It is a 2 minute walk to the concert from Frankford Hall

Open all year, but enjoy while the weather's great

By ANNAMARGARET B |

We arrived on a warm and breezy Mother's Day afternoon, and the weather was perfect for the place, a big brick warehouse with windows wide open, long tables, kids playing ping pong. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, an open air beer garden with bar inside, and a self serve counter for food - big burgers, sausages served with sauerkraut or sweeter red cabbage, and German specialties. We picked up one of the many Jenga type games to play at our table and enjoyed reading what previous patrons had written on the blocks as much as the careful withdrawing of them. This is a family friendly, yet also adult, place, designed to let you linger and build community and good times.

Beer hall !!

By Bobpierson |

I like this restaurant . It's fun. Good food good beers . Go with a bunch of people, play ping pong . Meet new people at the communal tables. Be loud it's allowed here.

Great Beer Hall

By Charles D |

Great German style beer hall. Large selection of fresh brewed beer, as well as a food menu. Facility is nice, as well as clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Neighborhood is good.

Love Frankford Hall!

By Deefrompa |

Have been to Frankford Hall 3 times now and absolutely love it! Such a fun atmosphere with great outdoor beer hall style seating. Great selection of beers (not cheap of course) and delicious food - especially love the soft pretzels with the most amazing dipping sauce ever. Highly recommend it for food and/or drinks.

Great drinks and pretzels!

By ResortMeg |

My boyfriend and I stopped by and had a great time. He loved the variety of beer choices and even though I don't drink beer they had a great hard cider on tap which was delicious! The setting is open air and it was a beautiful day to sit outside. If you like, they have Jenga sets to play and other games available which makes it a lively setting. We ordered the large pretzel (came with yummy dipping sauce--less like a regular cheese sauce and more of a sour cream taste). It was hot, soft inside, crispy outside and great. I'd highly recommend for meeting up with friends on a beautiful afternoon this summer!

Large Beer Garden, Tons of Energy

By PhillyShaney |

If you want to have a good time, visit Frankford Hall. It is a large space, a few bars and large wooden tables in the courtyard. You have the option of half liters or full liters. During my visit there was a bachelorette party who was on a beer crawl and they were a lively bunch and that added to the energy of all the other people having drinks. There are German Food choices, Bavarian Pretzels, Sausages and fries of course. The beer selections were pretty good and cover all tastes. If you want low-key - don't come here - but if you are ready to "Kick-it Up A Notch" - stop in and have a few liters.

Great place for a beer and food

By Brandon H |

This is a favorite beer garden that also has a nice menu. On weekends they also have a brunch menu. There are games for the kids to play.

Great beer selection

By j p |

This is a terrific beer hall with lots of beer options, as well as bratwurst. There's a ping pong table too. Lots of outdoor seating at long tables which is fun and social.

Al fresco, al birra, i al bambini

By Elhusbando |

Simple, tasty and quite family friendly. Burgers and fries and shakes all rank high. Veggie hot dog can be avoided- plain & listless. Other than that though, it rules. It's a real beer garden too. Solid choices. Great evening respite.

Day drinking at its best

By Savcat215 |

Frankford hall is the perfect spot to meet up with friends in the late afternoon, get dinner, and drink.

Great place to hang out with friends

By Camdc |

Went here on a Saturday night yet still managed to find place for a pretty large group. Big tables and awesome outdoor space with fire pits. Ping pong and foosball yet still a nice ambiance. I was sick so couldn't actually drink, but beer selection looked great, and I had a delicious hot cider. Good German food selection as well.

good food and great beet

By carriemum |

I love the Wednesday nite gappy hour. $5 for a half liter of beer. They have a great selection and fire pits out back to keep warm when you want to gang outside despite it being winter.

One of the best spots in Philly!

By Sofia425 |

I love Frankford Hall! There's something for everyone from games like Jenga to the many varieties of sausage, giant pretzels and liters of beer, everything is excellent. The communal seating especially in the outdoor area is so much fun. I always end up meeting new people and having a great time. The food is delicious, and the extensive beer menu is awesome.

Interesting venue

By Cathleen V |

We visited here one night after work. It is self seat, menus and order from bar. Food is very good, enough to share. Plenty of beers to choose from. Large place. Clean and well priced. Parking was only street parking on this visit.

Unbeatable

By L J |

Need to go somewhere that makes everyone happy? That place is Frankford Hall. The food is German Biergarten fare evolved for the American palette. Fresh giant pretzels, brats, and spatzel alongside burgers and fries. The beer situation is unreal. Great wine selections. And... jenga, foozball, and table tennis. And a huge outdoor courtyard open all year with a fire pit in the center. The place is always packed but doesn't feel crowded. Kids are welcomed and its so noisy (in a good way) that no one cares if they cry because you literally wont notice. Frankford Hall never disappoints. Caution: parking is HELL at peak hours. Prepare to park far, far away. But there are great new shops along Frankford Ave that the walk isn't so bad.

Good experience, but could be much better.

By Dean |

We were excited to learn about Frankford Hall when we were visiting Philly, as my wife was born & raised in Germany (central) and we're always looking for authentic food, especially that which is authentic to her region. We visited mid-day on a Sunday. Some of the food was... disappointing. For example, the curry ketchup tasted like regular American ketchup which someone mixed some curry powder in. The brats were dry. The potato salad had some German overtones but tasted Americanized and was served cold. And the pretzel tasted like it came out of box... nothing special, although the cheese was interesting (may even be regionally authentic, but I wasn't familiar with the flavor). However, the potato pancakes were SPOT ON! Great job! Some positive notes... the feel and atmosphere of the venue was very German. That alone made it a bit of an experience verses just a restaurant. The also have a great selection of German import beers, and I found one that I like better than my usual. Also, I found the staff friendly and professional. No problems with the bill or service. The food portions are generous and we ordered w-aaa-yyyy too much food (as usual). The draw to the hall was a bit limited, but the German culture feel of the place, the potato pancakes and beer may be enough to bring us back someday when we're in town. Wish the rest of the food was as spot on as the rest.

Looking for German food

By kaw001sr |

Great beers. German and Dutch focus. A real beer garden. You can get big real glass German sized steins of beer or tall Pilsner glasses. The food is German, from the 5 types of wursts to sauerkraut, red cabbage potatoes salad,. Skip the buns and fill up on meat. They have Mushroom strudel, Weiner Schnitzl and Schweinshaxe. Coming back!!

Very good food at lively beer garden

By SteveDisque |

I'd tried to come here for lunch a few years ago, but I didn't do my homework -- on most weekdays, the place isn't open until 4.00! By chance, I ended up heading in this direction yesterday, and decided it'd be a good time to try the place. I was a bit surprised. It's set up like a German beer garden instead of a conventional American restaurant. The seating is open at both the indoor and the outdoor areas; the latter offers long wooden picnic tables and benches. You order your food from a window in the outdoor courtyard, pay for it there, and are given a number to display prominently on your table. When your food is ready, a server comes out and finds your number! I didn't have beer; I went for the food (as I also do at Brauhaus Schmitz!). I ordered a veal schnitzel -- when in doubt, go with a classic -- which was delicious: fried in such a way that you could enjoy the flavor without feeling weighted down. The prescribed side dish with this is potato salad, but they were very nice about substituting sauerkraut: their version includes bits of julienne carrot, and is served warmer than most, so I felt like I was eating something substantial! Saturday lunch on a nice day drew a good crowd, including a number of families with children (clearly not a problem in Philly as it might be in N'Yawk). This raised the noise level in the open courtyard, which came across as a cheerful clamor. A beanbag game and a ping-pong table are available for those who want to play social games. Nice, and I'll definitely be back, though more likely on a weekday evening.

Great beer garden!

By Dana S |

Had a blast here. They had a big fire out which is nice to sit near. They serve beer in big stein glasses which is fun. The food was good enough (not great but better than usual bar food IMO). They had true or dare Jenga which made for some funny stories. Will definitely back!

Fun place.

By Bob M |

The food was so so, but the place is really fun for singles as well as couples. Good selection of German beers served in 1/2 liter as well as full liter mugs. Lines at the bar can get long, but the staff works quickly.

Great summer venue

By Keith E |

Great place e yo drink when the weather is nice. They have a large outdoor space. They also have many Getman beers on tap you don't see often. Food is only mediocre.

Beer garden

By buddyPhila |

Went to a 30th birthday party on a Sunday afternoon. The party was outside in December, they had heaters on but I thought it was cold. We went inside and watched eagles game. Thought the beer was expensive and didn't have mixed drinks. The snacks we ordered were just ok. Found the picnic tables un comfortable. I've never been to a beer garden before and have zero interest in returning!!

Germany meets Philadelphia

By TBLJTiki |

Awesome biergarten! Large beers that you would expect to find at the Hofbrauhaus in Germany. The bar set up is great with an indoor/outdoor seating area. You would never know you are sitting in the middle of a large city. Lots of fun games to keep you occupied or to compete with friends, like jenga, ping pong and foosball. I didn't try the food so I can't comment on that. Parking can be really tough!

Great Gathering Spot

By TheChiefFromCali |

We are visiting our family here in Philadelphia. My niece and her family met us here for lunch. First we were warmly greeted by Gabby Dicapua, who along with here great staff made us feel at home. The beer hall feel is there, yet the fact that it is outdoor allows for me to harken back to times in the south Bavarian summers spent sipping on great beer. The food has a special charm and flavor. My wife is from North Dakota and grew up in a German Family and she ordered the white sausage sandwich. She gave it five stars for flavor and not being fat or greesy.

Great place to hang out and have beers

Awesome place for beers and snacks. Relaxed atmosphere with a very diverse crowd of all ages. And very reasonably priced.

Beer Avalanch

Went here on a snow day to throw back some Winter ales and needless to say had an amazing time. Great place for meeting friends.

Great, even in the winter.

By Shaun M |

Came before concert next door at Johnny Brendas. Will be back for the brats next time. A great change from the norm.

One of my favorite bars

By bowtied |

This place is great. Designed like a courtyard, they have several tables with chairs in the middle with the bar on one side and a place to order snack type food on the other side. Ping pong tables are spread throughout the bar with cornhole at the very back. The bartenders are excellent and help you pick out the best german beer for you. I highly recommend this place.

Want a beer?

By Marina F |

Excellent German beers, a very unique "Wier Garten" a place where you can eat, drink, play, be outside and feel really good

Such a cool and unique place!!

By carpDeeEm |

On the recommendation of a local friend, we made dinner at Frankford Hall the last meal of our trip. Located in the very trendy and up-and-coming Fishtown section of Philly, the restaurant is surrounded by bars and restaurants that are all hopping. Walking into the restaurant, nee food hall, there is a relatively small covered area the includes the bar, some seating, and a pair of ping pong and foosball tables. Beyond you discover the true joy of this place - an expansive open air courtyard filled with picnic bench style tables, strung white lights crisscrossing overhead. Food is ordered from a walk-up counter and is all German influenced, so lots of prepared meats, pickled vegetables, and other tasty treats. The beer list is lengthy and the full bar available for the non-beer drinkers. We had our son with us, and he had a blast! This place seemed to be a popular spot for locals, and is well worth the effort if coming from out of the area. Highly recommended!

Great Place to Grab a Beer

By Cassie C |

I didn't eat at Frankford Hall, so I can't comment on the food (although it looked delicious). They have a great beer selection, and the place has a really fun, laid back atmosphere. I would recommend going on a nice, sunny day and just enjoy the beer garden.

Beer, pretzels and fire pits

By Gemini6565 |

I've been to the 'Hall' two times now and have had an outrageously fun time each time. The German beer and pretzels are amazing, but if you want a place to go that's packed with people enjoying life, sharing stories, playing games and living life to its fullest - go here. I can't say enough about this authentic German beer garden. Just wish it were closer - I'd be there every weekend. It's a good time in the summer and even in the winter with the heaters and fire pits. Dress acording to the season becuase you will be outside.

Great food and beer

By SpicyBigMac |

Played jenga while waiting. Good was pretty good and beer was very large. The indoor/outdoor atmosphere was really neat.

Love this place

By kcyeager |

I have been to Frankford hall many times, and i love it everytime. The atmoshere is relaxed. There beer selection is crazy, but they have more then the norm. The food is good, there giant prezels are always a hit. In my mind, you can never go grong with a place that sell liters!

Hostess was rude and unprofessional.

By cgcg_g |

Hostess was rude and unprofessional. We asked her once and politely to hold the table 5 extra mins (after a two hour wait). We truly asked politely and she described us as “combative”!!! Unbelievable. Not worth the wait, especially when considering the attitude coming from the hostess.

Liked everything about it

By NJLuv2Travel13 |

This place was very cool, inside and out. The beer was cold, tasty and reasonably priced at happy hour and otherwise. Nice system of getting food on one side and drinks separately at the bar. Happy hour food specials were really good too. Bratwurst was my favorite, and the pretzels were tasty too! I’d definitely go again if in that area for a Fillmore show.

Fun for Family and Friends

By tlwright19 |

My son took me to Frankford Hall on Fathers Day. It was our first time there and we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, variety of on-tap beers and hard ciders, and the free available games. We had no idea we could play ping pong! We both had the soft pretzels and tried both of the sweet and spicy mustard varieties. Here's a friendly bit of advice. Go easy on the horseradish mustard for the first few rounds. It sneaks up on you in a good way. The staff we encountered were friendly. It wasn't crowded at all when we were there and we were surrounded but groups of families and friends who seemed to likewise enjoy the atmosphere of the Frankford Hall. You place your food order at a window and are given a number. The food is delivered to your table when it is ready. We had a little trouble finding parking but we are not familiar with the area so I can't really give any advice or judgement on that. I do recommend this place for a relaxed afternoon or evening.

Liter Beers

By tazman1099 |

This is a great American rendition of the German Beer Garden type place. Long tables with benches inside and out, beers by the half and full liter, and a good menu of German food.

Great Atmoshphere, Excellent Beer Options and HUGE Pretzels

By GGWD |

Went there for Beers and a snack and it didn't disappoint, with lots of beer and snack options. They have Large Beers and Massive Beer options. Pretzel with Cheese Sauce and Horseradish Mustard was quite good. Great staff, friendly and plentiful seating. Fun time, glad we went!

We really miss Vienna würstelstands

By eightsgoeast |

We had recently come back to the US after living in Vienna for a year, and were yearning for Käsekrainer. We had just a day in Philadelphia, and came across a restaurant listing for Frankford Hall. We ventured there on the way out of town, not sure what we'd find. Oh my god! It was perfect in a perfectly understated way. Great würstel. Great fries. Great beer. Great crowd, from 5 year-olds attempting ping pong to senior citizens enjoying a break. We couldn't have been happier.

An Authentic Modern Day Bier Garten

By MaineTravel50 |

Went here in Oct 2015 and Dec 2015 and it was absolutely outstanding in all respects. After living in Munich, it's a true pleasure to find something so authentic with an American/Philly twist to the traditional bier garten. Excellent food with authentic weiner schnitzel, sausages, pretzels, coupled with Paulaner weizen beer from the tap. Plenty of micro, American, and German beer choices. On weekend days, this place is full of young, hipster families with tons of little kids. The fire pits are a draw in the outdoor courtyard along with the various games. Real german biergarten tables and benches. On a technical note, weizen bier should never be served in a "Mass", the 1 liter mugs, only in a proper weizen bier glass!! Highly recommended for fun, good food and beer, and for those who are jonesing for a spot that reminds them of their ex-pat days in Munich. A 'dodgey" area to park is the only downside to this place.

Great Place for Good Times

By ChuckF29 |

Went to Frankford Hall on a cold, wintery afternoon with a group of friends and had a great time. They have an open beer garden that was heated with large propane heat lamps and a fire pit. It creates a nice atmosphere. The beer selection was great - really enjoyed the Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter! The large pretzels and spaetzle were great for appetizers and the selection of brats was awesome! There are ping pong tables, a foosball table and Jenga and dominoes available to play at your table. Special nod to the bartender - she was very helpful. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Just alright

By Baconisgoodforme |

We went here for drinks and food. We, fortunately arrived just before the crowds. Bar staff was very friendly and polite with a good selection of beers. It went down hill when we ordered only a couple light appetizers. They took over an hour to get despite inquiring twice. This place gets beyond noisy when the crowds are in. Overall it was just ok.

Best Bar in Philly

By Matthew Q |

If you want a fun night out in Philly, go here. Beers come in two sizes, half litres and litres and the beers on tap are always great, mostly German beers. There are ping pong tables, jenga, camp fires, foosball tables, and all in German beer garden style setting. The food is also great, go with the kanzler and you won't be disappointed. Also, make sure to try the quintessentially German curry ketchup.

Pretty great

By tallgaloot |

This place is a pretty fun bar. Outdoor seating, ping pong, foosball, cool food, interesting drink choices. The place is overrun with people who look cooler than me in the evenings, but I had a great time with my group of friends. They have some interesting special events that look like fun. Only one tv, which is an interesting choice. Good place to go and hang out all evening. Definitely recommend it. The food is pricey, but to be expected. Parking is the biggest problem. Did see PPA out there handing out tickets. Best bet is to take Uber or walk if you can.

Don’t bother

By Meg M |

They allow people to hold empty tables while lots of other folks are waiting. Talked to the manager, he didn’t care. Said it’s be inhospitable to ask her to leave. In the meantime, she’s holding the table hostage with no other members of her party showing up. Bye!

Not really German beer garden but well done

By lenusvyat |

Really well done space and what looks like German food and atmosphere but there isn't much really German about the atmosphere itself. The place does get insanely crowded, so don't expect a quiet meal!

Great food, good atmosphere, would return.

By TravelLover8098 |

Great food and atmosphere. A little pricey, but drinks are large and food was good. Great games and plenty to do. Close to the market-Frankford subway line with easy access. A little a sketchy neighborhood, but keep your head up and you'll be fine.

What a great set up with the beer garden. Great selection of beers on tap and you can get a litter of beer and sit back in the garden to play jumbling towers (aka Jenga). The food is quick to be delivered to your table but like the beer you have to go up and order it.

YES YES YES!

By sheila f |

This place is perfect for a chilly night! There are heaters and firepits in their outdoor seating area that provide excellent atmosphere. The food is AMAZING!!! Everything I have tried on their menuis delicious. The beer selection is always on point.

Alles Gut!

I am so happy to have finally made it to Frankford Hall! When I lived in Philly (ages ago), Fishtown was not a neighborhood I had any reason to visit, and even when I passed through, it wasn’t the kind of place you wanted to linger very long. Fast forward to this century, and it appears this is the happening part of town. Frankford Hall is a quick few steps from the El, and near several bus lines, so ditch the car and have that second beer...that might be all you can handle cause they are poured into big-kid glasses! The extensive selection on tap features all the German favorites, plus some interesting local microbrews. I was pleased to see that even with this import and micro heavy menu, that the bar prices are astonishingly reasonable. I adore German food, especially street cuisine, and Frankford Hall does it “echt.” Our table tried several sausages, the potato salad, kraut, red cabbage, and pretzels. All winners in my book. I appreciate the authenticity of the distressed outdoor Biergarten. It really transported me (mentally and emotionally) to one of the many happy evenings I’ve had in Germany. The fire pit was a nice touch, especially on the chilly, overcast night I visited. The only thing missing was an oom-pah band, but the 80’s Euro-pop they were playing was heartwarmingly nostalgic.

Brunch & drinks at Frankford Hall

By jmash |

My wife and I recently returned to Frankford Hall to meet with friends for Sunday brunch and drinks. We enjoyed our previous visit so much that we recommended meeting two other couples there. Again, the service was excellent and the people working there were very friendly. Everyone enjoyed the German eatery selections and the many beer options. Aside from the difficulty finding parking in the area, this is a very good choice for spending a few hours with good food and drink with friends.

Cool beer garden with tasty German snacks

By Michele M |

I really like this place. They have good beers on tap along with some creative things (like Pumpkin cider) and the sausages and fries that they sell are quite tasty. When we were there, however, they wouldn't turn on the outside heaters despite it being chilly that evening. So we couldn't enjoy the beer garden to its fullest.

Great German themed bar

By burnig |

Love this place, outdoor seating, German food and beer...and games to play. Great idea, wish we had one in my home town !

Wonderful beer garden in Philadelphia

By Burm |

Went with friends for lunch. We were attending a Bavarian festival with friends. Great ambiance. Food consisted of pretzels and brats. That was just so so. However, my husband did get French fries with curry ketchup and they were fabulous. although everyone else had the German beer I settled for a glass of German white wine. Day was sunny and we were outside in their back area and had a wonderful time.

German style Biergarten

By marathon235 |

Went there after a visit to the Zoo, Google search. Area is suburban feeling, quiet roads. The place has outdoor seating. You get your own beer on one side, then the food on the other side. Good local draft, food was good, pretzel etc. Seating is on benches, easy to make new friends. The have an area for band setup, so I would check out their calendar. This place was a great surprise and I would recommend it for any visit in the Philly area.

Very Authentic Bier Garden

By Garv3636 |

This is one of the best places I have visited since my year spent in Germany. Centered between old brick buildings and picnic tables lined up for people to sit at, this place attracts a variety of people. From bikers, to college kids, from families, to tourists - and they all fit in! Every picnic table has Jenga, and it was really funny to see every group at every table playing! Ping Pong tables and fooseball tables are also available and free to play. The beer on tap is a great selection - you are sure to find something you like, and the menu is authentic to Bavaria and Germany. It is not a long list of items to choose from but the quality of what they offer is delicious and sure to please. I visited with my husband and three kids and they thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend the huge Bavarian Pretzel with the Bavarian cheese and mustards.

What an awesome find!

By G D |

Really cozy place with an excellent bar, interesting food-truck style menu and an amazing open air, family friendly yard to enjoy your food and drinks in - what more could you want? How about ping-pong and corn hole and Jinga as well? Really fun place!!

Great Food & Drink On A Beautiful Fall Day

By Sailorsgirl |

We have visited many Biergartens in Europe, and this one is very close to the real thing. They have an extensive "Trinkin" or Drink list and a nice food menu with snacks, light or full meals. There are games to play, music, good food and drink, and lots of people having a great time! What more can you ask for. If you want dessert they have ice cream shakes like Smores, Orange Creamsicle, Honey Graham and seasonal, with or without alcohol. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Heat to the bar and order your drinks, they will start a tab, then over to the food counter to place your order. The food will be brought to your table. Parking is a little tricky as Frankford Hall is in the city but a spot can usually be found not too terribly far away. It's a great place to spend an hour or two any time of the year. Oh, and the Staff is wonderful, friendly and helpful. They let me sample the wine before I ordered it. The Pirate/Biker Bouncer at the door is not as intimidating as he looks!

Fantastic Atmosphere, and a Dog for Everyone!

By Denise H |

Spring surely welcomes outdoor seating, and Frankford Hall has that 'covered'! But it doesn't have to be spring, or even warm, for you to dine under the stars. Frankford Hall Beer Garden is an open-concept mead-hall (yeah, like the October-fest scene in National Lampoon's European Vacation) with a fire pit instead of an elevated veranda. It's gravel, exposed brick, ping-pong tables and benches full of happy diners at almost any given moment. We went on a Monday night, close to 8:30pm, and were delighted to find it so casual and reasonable. My partner and I both ordered sausages, and for those who are veggie, no worries! I had a snappy and tasty veggie sausage on a potato roll with sauerkraut for $6! My partner had the Käsekrainer, which was meat and cheese, and she was thrilled with the flavor and texture. And if we had more time, we would have totally ordered from the huge variety of small plates offered. C'mon, bavarian pretzels and escarole soup! How confident they are to put that on a bar menu - I'm coming back to try 'em... anyway... This place is simple - you head to the bar, order your food/drink, take a number, then just enjoy... they bring you the food (and the service was awesome) and you soak in the stars... great concept, Philly!

Stephen Starr's Awesome Beer Garden

By Charmed0531 |

Stephen Starr has managed to do it again, create another awesome restaurant with great food and drinks. Who doesn't love beers the size of your head and currywurst? Awesome atmosphere for a couple or group friends. Plus they have table games so you can just hang out all night. Plenty of street parking and very close to the SEPTA stop, so transportation options are pretty abundant (for the city). The only (minor) downside is they don't have table service, so you have to buy your beers and food at the counter, but they will at least bring out your food order. Again, very minor issue. I still highly recommend!

Plethora of Brews

By carter414 |

German beer garden accompanied with traditional German cuisine. First come first serve seating with picnic style dining. Excellent selection of beers.

Beer “garden”

By Josip77 |

Great beer, average beer price. Food is overpriced and portions are on the small side. Wiener schnitzel was bland but okay- I’ve had both better and worse, fries are very good. Wurst (sausages) are served a toasted hotdog bun which blows my mind, this is just fundamentally wrong, I can’t believe this is endorsed by the famous chef Steven Star....might as well have put it on sandwich bread. You go to the bar to get your drinks and a window to order, food is then delivered like in a fast food joint. Atmosphere is okay if your into the abandoned warehouse look and very noisy. Won’t be back.

German Beer Garden in Fishtown!

By Carspre |

My son, daughter-in-law, and their 2 children took me here to celebrate a belated Mother's Day brunch. Weather had made our original date a wash-out. I was so pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and quality of the food. A year ago, we'd travelled to Alsace in France (a region heavily influenced by past German settlement). I thought I was back in Strasbourg or Colmar, and I was more than happy to feel that way. The food that my daughter-in-law ordered: a few bratwursts with several different kinds of mustard, German potato salad, a giant pretzel, beet salad, and a salad Lyonnaise, along with some light beer was all top-notch. The children even had a delicious chocolate milkshake for dessert. A Jenga-like game was provided by the restaurant, and we all worked on that until our order arrived. We'd also brought along our own Uno card game, so the casual ambience, outdoor courtyard seating underneath large umbrellas, and the efficiency of the pleasant wait staff all contributed to a first-class experience. I'd gladly go back!

Beer!

By DillanTobin87 |

Stumbled onto this place by chance - what a find! Great selection of foreign and domestic beers. We loved the fire pits and the games which kept us entertained - and drinking all night. Food is basic but solid, the same people own a BBQ joint next door which is also out of this world. I def recommend this place for a night out with friends.

A Little Bit of Octoberfest in Fishtown

By gjmstarman |

As most Stephen Star restaurants which offer a special experience this place delivers. Great layout with a German beerhall feel. Wonderful outdoor space. Good German beer selections. The only negative is the price of the food which is good but way overpriced for really some very basic choices.

Satisfying & fun

By immer-sonnig |

Frankford Hall is a unique place in Philly. You have the quality and fun of a Stephen Starr restaurant but a bit more casual and I thought reasonable. A great place to bring several of guests to drink some good beer. Loved the option of eating inside or out (we chose outside). Food was very good satisfying. Very lively place.

Great atmosphere

By James B |

Great atmosphere and vibe relaxed good people service is excellent great all around. plenty of seating crowd is excellent friendly and engaging. Great for friends out on the town.

Huge and beautiful venue but very loud

By Dosmastr |

My work group visited this place on a Saturday night the place was BUMPING and very Lively. Pretty good-size menu lot of dessert options and drinks. Good service. The giant Pretzel was pretty good although the dipping sauce different than anybody expected. It wasn't bad it was just surprising when you took that first bite. I would go again

Excellent German beer and food, in a nice beer garden format

By Chris_Jeblons |

Great place to try some new beers and get some great German food. Outdoors in the beer garden is a good time, even in the winter!

Fun Time

By Danielle C |

Great spot to casually drink with friends for the night. Love the firepits and ping pong tables. Food is good enough for people that are drinking - not spectacular if you're not drinking. Only downside - lots of frat bros trying to be cool, and long lines on weekends.

Frequent Traveler--Great, great place!

By Meghan I |

--Great, great place! Wonderful environment for all visitors. Great beers, great food, great company!

I could go here every night!

By John A |

How it took me so long to write about my favorite place in and out of Philly eludes me. While this German style beer garden is frequented by a younger crowd there is a place for all ages. You get a fantastic indoor/outdoor environment with a fun, friendly crowd, free games to play all around, a limited but delicious authentic German menu and outstanding, legitimate German beers (and some non German ones) served in authentic German style at very reasonable prices. It's my go to and everybody I take there loves it.

DIFFERENT TYPE OF VENUE

By RJN612 |

As someone who loves everything German this was a nice place to go. Interesting use of the courtyard by making it into a beer garden. Food was reasonably priced and tasty. Beer selection was excellent and again reasonably priced for the city. The neighborhood is not the best and it was very noisy as the crowd was mostly younger.

Fun outdoor German style biergarten

By JulesQ331 |

Overall a fun place - lots of picnic tables & benches outside, most with umbrellas; a couple different bars; a window for ordering food (which is brought to your table); ping pong tables, foosball, and generic Jenga available. The ping pong tables are in an area where there are tables and people milling around, so it's a little awkward but not nearly as much as I anticipated. There are some tables inside, too. Food is decent - sausage, potato pancakes, fries, etc. Some of the bouncers are really cute, by the way.

Beer in the outdoors...

By Barry M |

Frankford Hall (a Steven Starr restaurant)is set up as a modern beer garden. The outside is comfortable, sitting (and eating) at wooden tables, with many space heaters on and being refilled constantly. Draft beers feature some local and some German and can be gotten in huge 1 ltr. mugs, Like they are served in real German beer gardens. I thought the inside area (TV's to watch football. table tennis tables) was way too warm. Limited menu. The brats, the pretzels and the sides were all good, some very good. The booze milkshakes were poor...you can get a great milkshake at Bobby Flay's burger palace. The staff was all friendly and outgoing and kept everything clean. I've been there before and will go back.

Al Fresco action in Fishtown

By Marc S |

A happening place in Fishtown for millennials and others who want a lively, stimulating atmosphere. Basically a booming bar scene filled with friendly groups commingled at picnic tables. Lots of beer consumed around fire pits under the stars. Limited but tasty menu that's fairly priced - good burgers (both meat & veggie), generous delicious mushroom strudel, satisfying beet salad. Should be a great place for singles to meet but people seem to come in groups and there didn't appear to be much intergroup mixing. Come early and hang with your friends; avoid if it is raining or snowing!

Get there early

By Linda S |

I had a great experience for my daughter's 30th birthday! You need to get there early place has occupancy limit so you will wait to get in. Parking is very difficult as well. Take a cab

Sunday afternoon at Frankford Hall

By jmash |

My wife and I recently met friends that were in from out of town at Frankford Hall on a Sunday afternoon. This was our first time there and we enjoyed this German style beer garden. This establishment has indoor and outdoor seating and since it was a beautiful day, we sat in the outdoor area. They have a nice selection of drinks and the food was very good as well. The service was very good and the staff was very friendly. Parking in the area was a bit hard to find and the place was a little noisy due to the venue being in an open area with high walls along the perimeter. Overall, we enjoyed this establishment and would return. It is a great place to meet for drinks.

Great place for the young (21-35yrs old).

By Ov3rLand |

It is a happening bar/tavern. Busy. Noisy. Good food and a good assortment of beer. Get the pretzel (they are huge) it's delicious.

Love this place!

By Famo4Philly_PA |

Great beer, delicious food and perfect spot to hang out with friends for hours. Comfortable in chilly and warm weather alike. Can't wait to go back.

Great place to hang out

By Loïc S |

It's a good place to hang out with friends or family. The outside area is very nice and there are bonfires during fall. Good choice of German beers and food, don't look for more though.

One thing well

By Yoshiofthewire |

Atmosphere, This place has it in spades. The bar and menu aren’t as full featured as some places. But if you want to meetup with friends, have a beer and chat, you can do a lot worse, and few better. And there is foosball.

Pretty good beer garden

By Bryan W |

Reminds me of an urban modern beer garden in the Munich style. Ping pong table and lots of picnic tables. Cool crowd and really good beer selection. happy hour specials are pretty great. happy hour ends at 7, but you can get your hh deal at the window where you order food and just grab your beer later, having paid the hh price. As for prices, half a liter for $7 is pretty good. considering a regular pint is something like .33 L so it all works out. Saurkraut is generally better than what you get in the states, but nothing compared with Germany. Could use some better spicing (pepper, annice, etc.). Sausages are decent, although the brats are a little bland. Fries are excellent as is the bavarian pretzel. This is a great place to go during the hot summer days or even at night (they string lights through the trees).

Bier Hall !!

By Dogra11 |

It's a nice open air beir hall with some good German brews on the tap. Family friendly place with some ping pong table and board games to keep you busy during your darling sessions. They have simple beir hall kind of menu and food is good. Overall friendly staff and quick service at the bar. If you are looking to hang out and have good German brews then this your place.

Great Bavarian bier Selection

By justgo4 |

My family took me here as a birthday present. I've spent a lot of time in Germany, especially Bavaria, and I have tried a lot of their beers. They have several of the better Bavarian beers on tap here. Also food and atmosphere are somewhat reminiscent of a small biergarten. Zum Wohl!

wound be a great atmosphere if it weren't so loud

By susan m |

We went here yesterday with a group of friends, the place is huge with inside and outside seating, you order your own drinks and food and sit at long tables, the food is brought out to you, while you wait you can play Jenga, ping pong or Foosball, some people had their children with them. The beer list was pretty good but since it was so hot I opted for the bier sangria which was delicious and refreshing. The adult milk shakes were good too, i tried the mudslide which also was very good. The only thing I did not like was the noise level, its an old open building which echoes alot, we had to yell to each other at the table to hear anything, which i particularly dont like, its like sitting at the table next to the DJ at a wedding. Outside i dont think it was as bad.. but overall a nice stop we will make again.

My Go-To Bar

By Evy C |

This is the bar my friends and I always go to on a week night when we want some great snacks and jenga! The outside fire pits keep you nice and warm year round and the milkshakes are amazing!

Awesome Spot!

By Sofia425 |

Everything about Frankford Hall is excellent. The authentic German sausages are delicious, and there are so many to choose from including vegetarian options. The beer selection is top notch, and it is always fun to drink a half liter or full liter of beer in the outdoor beer garden. Tons of game options such as ping pong, jenga and corn hole make for a fun and social evening!

Great place for friends to get together

By Vardievard |

Plenty of beer selection and the food is very good. We were here for a birthday but didn't want to pay to reserve the tables. So if you get there early enough on a Saturday, we got there around 4pm, there is plenty of space available.

Popular bar

By travelman1979_10 |

Great place to meet friends. Huge venue with plenty of bars around the restaurant. Lots of seating outside as well. Service was fast and friendly at a few bars we went to

Awesome beer hall

By npwest |

So fun! Loved the fire pits and benches. Great, casual crowd. Good beer selection on tap and in bottles. Not knowing a lot of them, I just ended up telling the bartender what I liked and he Instantly had 3 recommendations and descriptions to share and was very happy with my selection. German snacks are for sale (Weiner schnitzel, pretzels and sausages) and some games like ping pong are set up. Supposedly they are open year-round...even in the snow!

Decent German food

By Jasmin B |

I was born and raised in Germany so I was excited to try this place! We went to Frankford Hall twice and tried out several different dishes. Some were decent, some were great. My husband loved his burger and fries (he tried The Kanzler as well as the classic burger). He also really enjoyed the IPA draft beer. I had the Schnitzel with potato salad which both were amazing, and I also liked the Bretzel. My mom ordered the potato pancakes as well as a side of Sauerkraut and the cucumber salad. The potato pancakes you get in Germany are usually a lot thinner and crispy on the outside, the potato salad had no seasoning (fresh but bland) and the Sauerkraut needed a touch more vinegar. On another day, we also tried the Bratwurst which I had many better ones in Germany and other places as well as the Kässpätzle which didn't blow my mind but tasted pretty good overall. Frankford Hall looks great, we loved the ambience and would definitely come back for another Schnitzel or Burger.

Good food!

By sunbern52 |

We had a family gathering here to commemorate a trip to Germany. Hopping place at 2:30 on a Saturday, the 6 of us finally snagged a table. Lots of beer choices, and the beer sangria was surprisingly good too! Good selection of German food and it was all very tasty. A nice 3 hours of family time. The only downside is that it was very loud.

A must-visit for locals and tourists alike

By PhillyOn2Wheels |

I've been to Frankford hall a handful of times, and it's always a blast. Great selection of beers and delicious, affordable food. It's especially cool when the weather is nice and you can hang outside, kicking back and having a few drinks. Last weekend my fiance and I went there to see about possibly hosting our rehearsal dinner there, and the manager Will was amazing - really made us feel like VIPs. We're still running our numbers and weighing options for the rehearsal, but if we end up going with Frankford Hall I'm confident that Will and his staff will do a bang up job with it.

Worth a visit

By k2j2neis |

Really enjoyable afternoon. We arrived early, scored a table and stayed for hours. I was DD but everyone enjoyed their beers. The food was tasty....burgers, mushroom strudel, soft pretzels. Jenga kept us entertained. When we left at 5:30, there was a line out the door to get in. They must be doing something right.

So Glad We Found It!

By jojothetiger |

There is nothing like a German Beer Garden! We go to Oktoberfest every year, and are always looking for Beer Gardens back here in the States. There were great beer choices, excellent food selections, and a great upbeat atmosphere. Everyone looked happy to be there, including the three of us. Would love to go back with a group. The enclosed beer garden is just the best. It is so nice to have a place within the city where you can sit outside but don't have to sit on a sidewalk curbside listening to and smelling the traffic go by! If you need a little activity with your beers, there are a number of ping pong tables, as well as other games. But really, the atmosphere and the beers are all I needed!

Cool place

By Bzears |

This is a cool place for a beer and a meal. You order your food at the window and they bring it out to you, and there are 2 bars to order drinks from. Tons of seating options, either inside or outside by the fire pits, or bench tables outside. They have ping pong, shuffle board and fooseball. It was comfortable in the courtyard outside with all of the propane heaters and fire pits going, I had to roll up my sleeves to cool off. Good beer selection, food was decent, the use of curry in German food threw me off but eventually grew on me, the brat did not have much flavor but was decent. My wife had their burger, which was very well cooked and had great flavor. This is a cool hangout spot, but other than some of the longer bench seating and tables, I would say this is not a German beer hall.

A unique city beer garden great for big groups

By Cara B |

We tried quite a bit of the menu and the authentic sausages were all terrific. The beer selection should satisfy anyone and the atmosphere was great. The outside area that's propane heated with its fire pits is a cool gathering place. Definitely want to come back in the Spring with a big group of friends.

Alive indoor/outdoor bar with games and German food

By PJM37 |

Not much more to add from what others have posted but a really fun place for all ages. Mostly a 30+ crowd but we were there for the Temple game so really busy and fun. they had a bunch of activity games and good beer. Fun time with many other bar and restaurants to walk too as well.

A Great Place to Hang Out and Have Fun!

By Sarah K |

I went to Frankford Hall on Saturday, October 4. We arrived around 5:30. We went here for my brother's birthday. Getting here early was a great idea! There were plenty of open tables. By about 7:30, most of the table space was gone. We headed over to the bar and ordered our beers. They come in 0.5 & 1 liter sizes. For the large quantity, I feel like the beers are a good value. I had the half liter of Doc's Pumpkin Cider. Although no one else in the group liked it, I enjoyed it immensely. Sweet and delicious! Everyone else enjoyed their beers as well. After getting our beer, we found a table near the food line, and decided what food we wanted. I started with the cheese spaetzle, and my hubby got the giant pretzel with cheese sauce. The spaetzle tasted like Mac N Cheese!! It was so delicious, although maybe not worth 8 bucks. I'm not a huge pretzel fan, but the pretzels come out nice and hot, and I found myself eating a lot of the pretzel. The cheese sauce is to die for! It's cold, which some people might not expect, but it's packed with flavor. It tasted kind of onion-y, which I really liked. My brother ordered the fries with a side of the cheese. The fries are the fresh cut kind, which are the best in my opinion. They have curry ketchup as well, which tastes really yummy. I also got the kasekrainer (beef, pork, & cheese) sausage. To me, it was small and nothing special. They have Jenga to borrow, and that was fun to play while drinking/eating. Just be careful not to build the Jenga tower close to your food! A bit about the service: there are employees walking around constantly. The minute you finish food or drink, they whisk away the empty cup/plate. That's important with this type of place! It was a chilly night, but they have heaters all over the place since it is an open air area. We stayed warm all night, and left around 8:30. The place was packed by then. I will definitely return to Frankford Hall. All the Stephen Starr restaurants I've been to have yet to disappoint me!

Fun Beer Hall

By Gfallstraveller |

Classic city beer garden with a great selection of German beers. Lots of televisions and tables. Fire pits and portable heaters for outdoor cocktails in the winter

Great beer garden

By Awsy |

Although the selection is limited to few beers but what a place, amazing atmosphere, friendly people, its a good spot to chill and mingle, i ll def come back there again

Biergarten? No.

By golfchic_18 |

What to expect here, you ask? I came on a Saturday afternoon, the establishment was to capacity. That being said, the cleintle was WASPy to the max. I went to order a beer, the bartender looked directly at me and then proceeded to wait on two other people that walked up after me. I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter to them, (as they are a "biergarten" and I assure you, they are NOT), my patronage was taken and will be at other businesses which are more geared towards customer service.

Great beer and great atmosphere

By boliwankenobi |

Hung out in the beer garden while I waited for my pizza. The beer was reasonably priced for the size and has a great variety

Not quite the Hof Brau

By Rebelshooter |

The beer was very good and the prices were reasonable. On the week night we were there is was primarily a place for college age person to hang out. The Brats were fine, not great but the potato salad was some of the best I have eaten.

What a great Father's Day gift!!

By Cheap_but_Good |

My first time!!! We ordered everything except a pretzel!!! Sausage was good. The sauerkraut had a sweet side to it. Not to vinegary. Great atmosphere! Excellent beer! Can't wait to go back!

Good Times Great Drinks

By Timmy Dreams |

I have been wanting to try this place for awhile I have been To many of the Bavarian/ German foodie drink places in Philly I can say the Drinks are Delicious the food was just ok and could use a step up! It would be great to have a valet parking option. I would love to see a Expresso Dunkel Added!

Husband's birthday 7 people

By Nikki A |

We made a reservation for 7 people. Waited 45 minutes, paid 25.00 parking. Two of our members of the 7 were a little late but we ordered food and drinks. The other two members arrived. They let one in but not the other saying there was a 6 person table limit according to pa laws. Which is false. I talked to the manager who was immediately very mean to me and said he was 100% sure we were told there was only 6 people permitted at a table. We had to pack up all our food And leave since we all came from Jersey. I was never treated so poorly. I will never go there again.

Casual Beer Garden Atmosphere for Comfort Food, Drinks, and Jenga

By Juls423 |

On a Saturday night, even after a snow storm in the dead of winter, this place is packed with couples and groups eating huge soft pretzels, drinking one of a variety of drafts, and sitting at long picnic tables playing Jenga. The atmosphere is loud and fun with plenty of space for large and small groups. You can order German-style mac and cheese and other hearty snacks at a lunch counter window, take a number, and have the food delivered to your table. A few different bars allow for quick drink service even on a busy night. I've never been to Germany, but I imagine Frankford Hall comes close to emulating the beer gardens there. Looking forward to returning to FH when the weather's warmer to take advantage of the outdoor area.

Great for family or a date

By familyfieldwork |

We ordered a lot of food and everyone was happy. Great beer selection and something for everyone. Burgers, fries, sausage and pretzels! Fun sprinkles soft serve & games to play at the table.

Great fun! Glad we went

By Shallam |

As former Philly residents, we were taken on a Fishtown tour by friends who love the neighbourhood , and Frankfird Hall was a highlight. I liked the vibe, Friendly and fun. A cross between a German beer hall and industrial chic that worked really well. Big tables, industrial doors that rolled open. Fantastic. We ate bratwurst and pretzels and drank copious beers and cider, and there was a great choice of drinks on tap. Easy Uber ride back to our Old City hotel. I would definitely go again.

Great Outdoor Beer Garden

By Jeremy M |

Lots of tables in an open courtyard with games, fire pits for s'mores, great beer, and good food. All reasonably priced (especially for a Starr restaurant). Cafeteria-style food--order at the counter and they give you a number to bring your food out to you. Bring friends!

Great gathering place for larger get togethers

By smack25 |

Had a close friends 40th party here (outside area) and had a blast. Great beer selection and food meant for a viking. sat outside for the most part even though it was February but with the heaters table side were plenty warm enough on a 40 degree night. Good space to have 20 people all sitting together without to much noice and able to walk about and sample great beer options and a good price.

Spent an evening with friends drinking liters of reasonably priced beers. We played ping pong and Jenga. The food was pretty decent also. Had some awesome German pretzels and German sausage. Can't wait to go back!

Great atmosphere for drinking a beer

Definitely loved my time here drinking with some friends. There's a pretty large space with picnic tables which will fit about 8-10 per table. I didn't sample any of the food but the drinks were tasty. I wasn't overly impressed with their selection, but they have a lot of the standard locals. Another positive...it wasn't dominated by hipsters as I had feared! I'll definitely stop back for a brew next time I'm in the area and the weather's nice. Maybe even play a little Jenga...

Great vibe and affordable

We happened upon Frankfort Hall in Fishtown on the advice of a friend. Picture a big warehouse feel mixed with a German beer garden. We had great food - mushroom strudel and a burger - and a wonderful grapefruit beer. You pay individually, when you order, so there's no hashing out who owes what when the check comes. Really fun place.

Oktoberfest

By Mark R |

We finally got around to going to Frankford Hall as they advertised an Oktoberfest Festival. We were certainly glad we went. This Stephen Starr bar/restaurant is rustic, yet elegantly contemporary. The large front windows open to bring the "outside in," and the back wall raises to a large courtyard, filled with picnic tables, another bar and kitchen window from where food is ordered. The menu, for this German celebration, was all about good German food. There were plenty of beers to choose from; both on tap and in bottles; wine and the "hard stuff." Even with the large crowd in attendance, the staff, from the attendants at the front door, to the bartenders, bar backs, servers, clean-up crew, everything ran like a well tuned Maserati. This is a very comfortable, relaxing place to come alone, with friends or family.

reminds me of brooklyn

Best atmosphere around Fishtown

Frankford Hall is one of my favorite spots in the city because it is basically like taking a piece of Munich and sticking it in Philadelphia. The veggie burgers are just OK, but I haven't tried much else food-wise. Their beer selection is awesome... both local brews and German weiss beers and some others. This place is also really great in the winter because they open it up for fire pits and you can make s'mores. There are ping pong tables and they provide Jenga too. There seem to be a lot of families that gather here at times, so that could either be a good or bad thing, depending on your opinion. (I've even seem a kid's birthday party here- weird.) Great atmosphere and nice to be able to sit outside, enjoy the old building and the great German beers.

Beer & German Food

By Tracy K |

We always have a good time here. Come for the beer and the German food. I enjoyed 3 kinds of sausage with a side of sauerkraut. (FYI all were gluten free. No GF beer, but they have a few other GF drinks on the menu.) Staff is friendly and helpful. For food, you order at a window and they bring it to you when it’s ready. They have lots of outdoor picnic tables, indoor tables, high tops, and bar seating. In good weather, giant windows are open and airy. There is a ping pong table and a TV in the bar area. (This is not a bar to come to if you want to watch everyday sporting events on lots of TVs.)

Unique, fun place to hang out

By CP6785 |

This beer garden is awesome. The outside dining area is filled with huge picnic tables, and a ping pong table. The cheesy pretzels are delicious and the beer is extraordinary. It is a little taste of Germany in the center of Fishtown, Philly. The drinks a little expensive, but worth it. Perfect spot for day drinking or a huge party of people. Definitely recommend.

Fun place and unique!

Phenomenal find! Awesome evening at the FH. The feel of an authentic German beer garden was great. Selection of beers was even better, including various stein sizes. The German Octoberfest band was a nice touch as well.

Fun evening out with friends

By SBobcat |

A good staple in Fishtown. They have a variety of seating and activities for whatever you are feeling to hang out with friends. A warm atmosphere despite being mostly outside. The fire pits and heaters keep things warm. Good beer of course and a great selection of German inspired treats with an American take. The S'more's shake (with Jack) is phenomenal!

Cool German Beer Garden!

By Donna31522 |

Very inviting atmosphere and the food was great, esp the roasted pork shank! Wait service is unusual since you have to go to the bar or kitchen register to place an order that is then delivered to your table. Also, choose your seat carefully! Very warm under a heat lamp, or cold...obviously in winter. All in all a fun evening. 4 ate and drank for less than $100.

An Authentic German Biergarten in Philadelphia!

Went to see their Oktoberfest on a whim. This place is amazing! Very authentic German food, beer and atmosphere! We will be going back again and again! Make a reservation if you have a party of more than 10.

Nice beer selection and service

By Robin T |

Good service, no bartenders or waitress bothering you. Good beers .5 and 1L beers prices are okay. Ping pong table inside and outside. Good atmosphere inside and a really nice place outside with benches and fire in winter. I really recommend. Especially should try the cocktail with beer.

A fun night with friends

By Alison P |

Just made my first trip to Frankford Hall and it was a blast. With long tables indoors topped with a cheap version of Jenga, tall German beers, and tables outdoors with firepits and heat lamps, this is the perfect place to go with friends on a slightly chilly night, to indulge in big pretzels and play boardgames. The hit of the night was definitely the alcoholic milkshakes. The downside? There was a 20-45 minute wait to get in, depending on when you arrived. The vibe is kind of fratty but still super fun.

Alright

We stopped in while in fish town, on a wintry night and couldn't get served. I think it would be a great summer beer garden, we hung out by the fire pits which were cosy.

Put trash outside your establishment

The customer service at the place sucks. The host was very agitated and was not professional. Don’t serve curbside drinks, and don’t have anywhere to disclose them. We end up leaving before being seated .

Oktoberfest - all year 'round

By cjones1913 |

I've been meaning to go to Frankford Hall for a while, a Steven Starr beer hall in Fishtown, modeled after German beer gardens. We finally got there on Saturday in the middle of their Oktoberfest festival. We arrived just before the crowd got too big and we were lucky to get two seats at the outdoor bar. We sampled a few German beers and had some brats (try the sauerkraut). As we left we saw that a line had already formed to get in, so it's a popular place. We'll have to go back when it's not so crowded to see what it's really like. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to try German beer, but they also have the local favorites too.

Fun for a group

By tweetyrx2003 |

We went with friends 8 of us total. It was a beautiful night so the outside atmosphere was great! The food was good especially if you like German food! I however am not fond but I had a burger and it was very good. I also highly recommend that you get a pretzel! If you like beer they have a great selection but the wine and spirits menus are lacking. The alcohol is pricey. The good thing about going as a group is you can all order and pay separately so there is no figuring out the check. They have Jenga to play while you hang out and the people watching is fantastic!

German Biergarten In Fishtown

By David D |

Frankford Hall is the place to go for basic, yet delicious German food and the beer selection can't be beat. They offer authentic German beer on tap in huge steins and the outdoor biergarten has fire pits, bench seating, and beautiful lighting at night. Inside, there are foosball tables, and table games for the kids.

Nice gem in Fishtown

By Nicks240 |

A buddy of mine from Philly recommend we meet here for some drinks. I love German restaurants and beer gardens. I'd have to say that this was one of the best one been to. We went on the weekend so of course it was packed but you didn't really feel "stuffed in" . That atmosphere and the energy of the place is incredible. The food was average as far as German food goes but the beer selection makes up for it. And beer, after all, is the whole point. Absolutely love this place and would go ever single night if I could.

Fun Experience

By ILiveOutofaSuitcase |

They have a nice selection of German beers by the liter or half liter, along with German style food. They have beer hall like tables, entertainment, pool, and Jenga at the tables. There was an indoor area that leads into a private courtyard with fire pits and heaters. Great place to have a drink.

German invasion!

By GerryFleck |

I hadn't heard of this place until my friend suggested it. I mean, who goes to Fishtown? Especially when they live in the suburbs? But now I'm upset we'll be leaving the area for good, and wish I can bring Frankford Hall with me. As you approach the road your navigator says the restaurant is on, all you see is a long wall of brick. When you get closer, you find a large archway with massive windows on either side, and a young burly man standing outside checking IDs. He refused to check my ID ("Just go through, man. You're good.", but I won't hold that against the establishment. When you walk through you see a relatively small indoor area and then a huge courtyard with trees, lights, picnic tables, people playing ping pong, and kids running around kicking balloons. I found my friends at a table already enjoying large German-style beers. One of them had his hand wrapped around a glass the size of a BMW full of of cloudy yellow heaven. Before I even sat down he yelled, "Dude, I'm running a tab at the bar. Get the one liter!" I sat and looked around and saw people reveling: Everyone had a giant beer (although only the brave souls had the one-liters), waitstaff were walking around with tray-fulls of sausages and the biggest pretzels I've ever seen, and young people were playing Jenga at their tables. The set up of the restaurant is really different than the usual. You find your own table, and on a busy night will certainly be sitting with strangers. No one comes to take your order. If you want a drink you need to walk to one of the two bars and if you want food you go to a window and place an order. For the food they give you a large plastic number and someone bring it to you. The beer you need to carry yourself. The menu is small, but just what you'd want at a German place. If you don't want beer (I would say go to another restaurant but the good people at FH are nicer than me), they have wine and other drinks. The food comes out fast and is very tasty. We each got two sausages with kraut and lots of French fries. Everything was great but the fries are world-class. I would recommend staying away from the red cabbage side. It's a little overwhelming. I give Frankford Hall my highest recommendation.

Great Bar!

This is a great bar to hang out with friends out. Lots of places inside and outside to sit with big tables to accommodate large groups. Great beer, great food and great atmosphere!

Great outdoor space

By aprildon6 |

Anyplace with fire pits, gravel ground and picnic tables is awesome in my book. The beers come in big mugs and the service was super friendly. Steven Starr does a great job creating an inviting space. We didn't eat, so I can't comment on the food, but I've heard it's more German pub fare-style. Great spot to chill with friends. It's got a social atmosphere.
