Not worth the money

By FoodFan1966 |

The ambience here is great, and the bar looks like a fun place to hang out. We ate in the restaurant side, which has interesting decor as well. Beyond that, I don't have much good to say. The servers were beyond slow, and barely polite. 45 minutes to get a drink. They weren't even busy. The menu looked promising, but the chef didn't deliver. The food was average, but the price had me expecting much more than that. The portions are small, food was either over or under seasoned, depending on the dish, and nothing stood out as remarkable.

our hangout

love everything about it, we try and go at least a couple times a month for drinks and great food. service is awesome.

Great food, friendly service, eclectic spot

By John P |

My wife had 6 oysters and loved them. I had a charred kale salad and grilled prawns and tostones that were great. Really efficient and friendly service.

Funky and friendly place with good food

By Michel_J_L |

Whether it is the region's super fresh oysters or the burgers, this place is fun and rewarding. The bar section offers the same menu served either at the bar or in comfortable sofas. The regular dining room is roomy and pleasant with a totally acceptable noise level. Great food, great service, a fun and rewarding experience.

Very create food

By elm4154 |

The oysters were quite good and the small plates showed creativity and nice flavors. Desert portion was huge and not at all creative. But overall a great experience.

Not Especially Impressed

By CudaRu |

I was not especially impressed by the food or atmosphere. It is as if the restaurant is trying to figure out what it should be, but cannot, A rustic oyster bar or quaint neighborhood café? Or a fancy clam shack? None of our meals were especially noteworthy and were somewhat overpriced for the food and quantity served. Even the draft beer selection was limited, with one of the two offerings not even available. Service was also a bit spotty and slow. When you order another glass of wine half way through your meal, it should be served quickly, rather than served when I was almost done eating.

Good neighborhood place, eclectic menu.

By travelgman |

Went with friends to this lively neighborhood place near the University. Great oysters and a eclectic menu was very satisfying. Service was a bit lackadaisical and slow, but otherwise a great dining experience.

Half an Oyster??? Who got the other half???

By Anita M. |

Have you ever heard of paying $2.00 for 1/2 of an Oyster??? Yes, $2.00 for 1/2 an oyster and that is the happy hour price! Who would take a knife to a beautiful plump oyster and allow the succulent juices to flow out and have the nerve to serve it to their guests? I have been everywhere from New Orleans to Seattle to the coast of France and more but never have I ever been served 1/2 an oyster in my 67 years of oyster eating!! The owner of Franks Oyster House in Seattle should be ashamed! While my husband had a beautiful presentation of 6 freshly shucked wonderful raw yearling oysters. (happy hour price was $1.50 each, dinner price $2.50 each), I made the mistake of ordering the fried oyster sliders on the happy hour menu for $6.00. I asked how many do you get? the server told me 3. I assumed that met 3 oysters. I recieved 3 slider buns with 1/2 an oyster on each bun. Are you kidding me??? This amounts to $4.oo an oyster while my husband got his for $1.50. It is not the price so much that matters, it's the idea that someone actually thinks he can get away with this! I hope I am not the only person to speak up!

Great value and service

By Richie54 |

Frank's is a neighborhood restaurant with the greatest oysters. In fact, they have a happy hour (5-6:30) when you can get the bi-valves for $1.50 each. The entres and salads are also first class and the prices are very resonable. When we had to eat in an hour, we told the waitperson who made it happen. The service is always wonderful. We have had the fresh fish and the fried chicken on numerous occasions. I recommend this place very highly.

Excellent First Impression

By tghiemstra |

My wife and I visited Frank's Oyster House and Champagne Parlor for the first time. It's a "hidden treasure", located immediately north of University Village Shopping Center. We were very impressed with the menu choices, quality of food and wine, and the friendliness of all the staff, from the greeter to the wait staff. Try Frank's. We think you'll agree!

A Lovely Meal in a Quiet Neighborhood Spot

By JourneyJen |

After a few years of hearing my relatives rave about Frank’s, I finally had a chance to try it on a recent Seattle trip – and I was not disappointed. The restaurant was busy but not loud, allowing my group to have a nice conversation during our meal without having to talk over other diners. We began by ordering cocktails and a few appetizers, which we enjoyed. Each of us ordered a different entrée, which allowed us to sample one anothers' choices. The restaurant was clean and well-lit. The wait staff was pleasant and able to offer suggestions while not being intrusive. All in all, it was a nice experience and I look forward to a return visit.

Excellent Dinner for Five

By Grandmasfootsteps |

The food, the service and the ambiance - all of the above were in plentiful supply at Frank's Oyster House. Dinner for five, we all tried different dishes, and when it was time for dessert we ordered all four of them and five forks! The wine menu was the best I've seen in years. One of the best dinners I've ever had - "thank you" to the chef and to the knowledgeable waitstaff.

Best place in the neighborhood!

By Inntraveler5005 |

This is a wonderful restaurant. Located just down the hill from our Bed and Breakfast, the Chambered Nautilus, we have sent countless guests here and are regular visitors ourselves. The bar is wonderful, great cocktails and even better bartenders, one night I described a specialty cocktail I had at another establishment in town and voila! they made it for me. Then there is the food........................great mix of flavors, the pork chop is always to die for as is the fried chicken. Currently the rib eye steak seasoned with rosemary and chili is my favorite, and I always LOVE the goat cheese deviled eggs! The bourbon choc cake is also a winner, but best of all is how they treat you. Great service, I feel as comfortable and well cared for when sitting alone at the bar as I do when in a booth with my husband or friends. This is a well run restaurant. We love this place and hope to spend many more evenings eating there. As I often tell my guests, I do not eat oysters or drink champagne and this is still one of my most favorite restaurants in town and it has never disappointed. We are just really glad it is only a short walk away!

Late Night Happy Hour

By ScottD58 |

Stopped in hear after 10pm on a weeknight. I was surprised it was pretty busy. Grabbed a couple of seats at the bar, ordered a cocktail and some oysters, which our served on a wooden plank and a slab of ice. Fresh! Recommended

Out of town folks loved it

By Foodtwosome |

They came for the oysters and neighborhood prices. They loved it. Presentation of oysters is dramatic and the little bivalves are served with multiple mignonettes (iced lemon was the favorite) Grand Central Bakery bread was luscious. So the entrees had a hard time living up to this standard. Fried chicken is good. Manila clams were solid. Cod and crab decent. Nothing to rave about, but all well done. Service is exceptional. And cocktails rocked.

Definitely Going Back

By flip52024 |

Visited Frank's on a Saturday night with 4 friends. The restaurant has a low key and friendly atmosphere. Cornmeal Fried oysters were the favorite item at our table served with a tasty spicy slaw and pickles. The oysters were cooked perfectly and the cornmeal was a definite compliment. Another hit was the seasonal vegetable - asparagus - one of the best preparation I've had in a while. The only miss of the evening was the Dungeness Crab Louie Lettuce Cups, fairly uninteresting and overprices. For dessert we shared the pineapple coconut upside down cake - total yum! The service was attentive but not overly. Will look for an opportunity to go back for sure

Fairly disappointed...

By rbeachkid |

After having read many positive reviews and having this restaurant on my "must-visit" list for the last few years, my wife, daughter and I finally went to Franks this past weekend. Frank's decor is 'interesting'. I didn't find it particularly appealing with the walls done in what appears to be dark recycled wood. But kudos on the recycling...it was clever. The reservation process online was smooth and we were seated promptly...and that's where the disappointment began. On one side of the room are tables for two, the other has booths that will comfortably seat four, six with a little crowding. Since there were three of us I would have expected to be seated in an open booth, of which there were two. However, we were crammed onto one of the two tops right on top of the table next to us. I started to ask about the booths, the hostess made some mention of other parties. My wife and daughter didn't mind the coziness, and I wouldn't have felt too bad about it, but right after we sat down, the hostess promptly seated parties of two at the two open booths. That upset me...really poor hostess work. The next area of disappointment was the salad I ordered. It was a mustard green salad. The salad was delicious, but extremely small for the $9 price. I never complain about portions in restaurants because typically one is overfed, and when I read reviews of restaurants where people complain that they left hungry for the price they paid, I usually figure they went to an expensive restaurant and didn't know what they were in for. But this salad was truly ridiculous for the price...It might have been 1/2 cup of salad. In the same vein, I had the octopus appetizer as a part of my entree. While delicious, at nearly $15 it too was tiny. OK - now for the positives... The wine list was very interesting and very fairly priced. We had a great bottle of champagne with a dozen delicious oysters as a starter. The biscuits with ham and the deviled eggs were absolutely wonderful. And the beef tartar was also very good. All of these were fair portions. So the best I can say is they were very inconsistent on size of portions relative to value. Overall, I could only reservedly recommend Franks and doubt I'll be in a hurry to go back given all the other great Seattle restaurants.

A New Favorite

By david n |

Franks has a really comfortable atmosphere, an urban rustic feel, you can dress up or be casual and it works. We ordered the oysters bingo, crab lettuce cups, cheddar biscuits, and clams. It was really well prepared, and really tasty. The service was good, although it wasn't that busy when we arrived. It's worth a try.

Great Oysters, Relaxed Environment

By Denver7889 |

Six of us went there to have a fun quiet evening and to get some good food. The oysters were fresh as were the clams and lamb sausage that we had for an appetizer . The fried oyster entree was fresh and the oysters were plump and juicy. The salmon entree was also shared by several people in our group. the service was a little slow, but friendly, and the overall experience was outstanding. We enjoyed the food and the evening with friends.

Pretence of Fine Dining

By Scott B |

Two adjoining store fronts are converted into a restaurant and bar, but the feeling of hardware store lingers. A Matre'd stands at a podium in the middle of the room, tables surrounding her, a noticeably awkward arrangement. All of the ritual of formal service is mimicked by staff in jeans and tennis shoes under white aprons. One line item on the menu is oysters, hardly an oyster bar. The food was very good, even a simple hamburger was distinguishably better than most. But the pretence of fine dining was distracting, just felt like alot of pretending was going on, consequently the experience fell short of the price. Although the food was good, we probably won't return,

AWFUL SERVICE ALWAYS

By EmeraldCityReviewer |

Hadn't been to Frank's in 4-5 years since the last time we went the service was awful. After giving it another shot, it was just as bad as ever. The service in the bar area in particular was awful then and worse now. No excuse for it. Considering the price, there is no reason to ever come back either. You should skip Frank's entirely.

Saved the best for last!

By roadwarriorz |

Everything was excellent! I'm traveling on biz and have not had much luck. But Frank's? Outstanding! Had a drink of the day, the fried chicken, and bananas foster. Everything was great, service was very friendly, water glass was always full, and it's very reasonably priced. You have to try this hidden gem.

Not a great return to restaurants!

By DBuksh |

Start with the good. Cocktails and kushi oysters. After that all down hill. I thought it would be great to revisit a fave and celebrate outdoor seating at Franks. Nope. Food. Thoughtless and poor quality. Burrata that was basically soup. A tough steak. Fried chicken that was a bore. Mashed potatoes that were so thin that the gravy was thicker. Biscuits...they were so dry I had to signal for water. That said the worst was the mad hatter that was lingering around expounding Covid paranoia. Policy was to afiix your mask when a server came to the table. Not a problem except that this lady kept popping up and removing items one at a time and would freak out if you did not get your mask on. At one point she popped up behind me as I took a horrid bite of food and then when I put my napkin up to my face to accommodate her she went into a pre-worked diatribe about how she has to keep a whole restaurant safe and that my napkin covering my mouthful face was not enough. We just shrugged and let her know we were vaccinated. Hoping to placate her. No. That was another speech. She then yelled at someone picking up food in their car. A bit pent up and quite uncomfortable. I don't know what her role was at the restaurant but her attempt to engage me at the very end was empty and ugly. As a good citizen I have gone above and beyond to keep myself and others safe. To be greeted back like this was an insult and showed the first completely out of practice restaurant I have visited in the last month

Saturday night selection.

By Ralph B |

Our first visit wii not be our last. I had a delicious fried chicken selection and a Manhattan drink special (wii stick to scotch next time). We had 6:15 reservations but got there a bout ten minutes early, but no problem. Service and food were very good. It is a fairly small neighborhood restaurant with small plates as well as large & a full bar.

Food, Service & Tariff that outweighs the space.

By cadby |

The food is well thought out, innovative and delicious. The service very good and professional. The drinks deftly creative and excellent. The space...hip, but cold, uncomfortable (at least the wood booths) and sadly just not befitting the rest of the experience. Dinner for four was enjoyed by all. For me, a great selection of oysters ($2.50 each) with excellent provenance, small plates included a decadent & sublime Chicken & Waffles with Bourbon Maple Syrup and Foie Butter ($16) and well handled Steak Tartare ($12). Praise for the food from the entire group, not a significant gap from any dish. The house cocktails ($11) were creative, delicious and enjoyed by all. Service was attentive and honest not doting. The prices are a bit steep but close to fair for the quality and creativeness of the dishes and service...but not for the space. An overall food experience of this effort and cost deserves a warmer, more comfortable setting and vibe. Hipster chic? No thanks.

Funky, but average

By Jay S |

This restaurant was pleasingly decorated. I'd call it modern funk. It was most pleasant. The food was good, but the choices limited. Of course, the limit variety probably meant that the food was fresh. I was disappointed they were out of a couple of dishes. This was surprising in light of the fact that it was a Saturday night. I think if I ever get back to that area, I would try another restaurant, but only for the sake of trying something different.

PRETENTIOUS OVERPRICED JOINT

By STEVE C |

I really like oysters. My English is pretty good. But I could not locate a legal parking space until I finally parked illegally. I could understand about 40% of the menu and I also speak French and Spanish, but the owners have fancified and gentrified ordinary food to justify high prices. I got four pitiful oysters with a dab of slaw that the bus boy wanted me to box up and take home. He was the best server we had. The lady with the pink hair is the parking and mask jefe but she did her job even though we were limited to 110 minutes of table time. We know the rules as we are veteran Seattleites. The menu has a printed warning set of rules about the COVID rules which, after one year, we know very well and support. The best experience we had this evening was a large piece of chocolate cake that was moist and flavorful. The oysters were okay but hardly memorable nor representative of an "oyster house." When they construct a comprehensible menu in ordinary English, perhaps we shall return. And they ought to free up some parking spaces for dine-in customers.

Comfy, good food, a bit over-priced

By Michael V |

The bar, oysters, bubbly, food and general atmosphere at Frank's are excellent. Some of the offerings are noteworthy... for example the smoked pork ribs are to die for. My only quibble is that they are a bit overpriced for what they are, an excellent neighborhood restaurant, not a "destination."

Great little happy hour and wonderful wines!!

By Shannon T |

We stumbled upon Franks when we had to park a gazillion miles away from Husky Stadium this past Saturday....what an unexpected treat. MUST HAVES: the Po'Boy fried oyster mini-sliders and the mini pork tacos! Service was very good despite a growing crowd-everyone seemed to wait on us. We would definitely go back! Being a champagne lover, didn't even get a chance to try any....this time. Looking forward to another visit.

Good suggestion by my Seattle based family

By richard h |

We were undecided about where to go for a Sunday brunch when this place came up in the discussion. It turned out to be very pleasant & reasonabally priced. The service was efficient & the food tasty. The outside appearance is deceptive as Franks is a agreeable place inside.

Delightful Spot for a Relaxing Dinner

By Debbie K |

This place just north of the main part of the UW campus is a great place for a drink and dinner. The food is terrific, the service is congenial and the ambiance is quite comfortable. The prices are worth it based on the quality of the experience. My colleague and I were to meet a business partner for dinner and he suggested this place. The brick facade was quite nice as it was in a row with other businesses. The interior was cozy but nice. We opted to sit in the bar area where we could have some discussions over a couple of drinks before dinner. The relaxed ambiance was one of the better aspects of the restaurant. We went ahead with dinner while in the bar as there were several tempting options available on the menu. I had the salmon which was quite good. The prices were not cheap but were worth it. Overall, this is a great after-work meeting place. The food is quite tasty, the service is very good and the atmosphere is top-notch. The prices are worth the experience.

Hip place for a mid evening drink

By Evaristo-Lopez |

Good and affordable champagne, and a hip, decadent place. Did not try the oysters since we just had dinner, but we sure ordered some snacks, although they do not have many options.

Stylish bar and consistently good food.

By SeattleSandy777 |

Favorites are the burger, salad wedge and fried chicken and the pork chop - and though I've never been much of an oyster fan have a wonderful assortment and give recommendations for the oyster newbie!

We'll be back

By Foodtwosome |

Couldn't get a reservation in the dining room but were advised to show up at the parlor and take our chances. Lucked into two leather stools at the bar. People around us were regulars & very friendly, chatty & welcoming --- like we were guests in their home. Bartender, Joe, was great, advising us to order quickly to take advantage of happy hour prices. A dozen oysters were served on a block of ice & excellent. Sparkling wine was part of the happy hour pricing. Bacon & chose popcorn less exciting, but cocktails Joe crafted were a little on the small side, but outstanding. Butter lettuce wedge salad came with outstanding chunks of pork belly and lots of mild blue cheese dressing, but the dressing was poured around the lettuce rather than poured on top so I could get just the amount I wanted. Clams and mortadella rocked and Joe got us extra bread to sop up the sauce. A real bargain at $95. Lots more on the menu to bring us back --- fois gras, scallop crudo, a steak the bartender raved about, a stuffed pasta that looked wonderful!

What a gem!

By ianbeavis |

It is ages since I lived in Seattle and had eaten at Franks. i had forgotten how good it was. It has a casual feel of a local hang out but the food is fabulous. Take their advice on what oysters and preparation to try. I'm love oysters and eat them whenever I can. The oysters we ate at Franks were among the best I have ever had. All four of us chose something different for our main course and had amazing meals. The waiter was very sharp and chose a wine that perfectly complemented each of the courses. It is a little out of the way if you're staying in downtown but definitely woth the trip. Honest, fresh Northwest food and wine at it's best ia relaxed atmosphere. Try Franks, you won't be disappointed.

Worth a vist

Eaten at Frank's twice in the parlor for happy hour. Well worth it! First time lucked into two leather stools at the bar. People around us were regulars & very friendly, chatty & welcoming --- like we were guests in their home. Bartender, Joe, was great, advising us to order quickly to take advantage of happy hour prices. Both time we ordered a dozen oysters which are served on a block of ice. Outstanding. House designed cocktails intriguing and Joe is happy to tailor them to your taste. But the classic are also perfectly executed. Others rave about the desserts.

Cozy, ambient dining experience.

By Ulsternana |

3 generations were here for papas birthday brunch! Since it is a cozy dining area with booths and tables, it fills up fast on the weekend .. 10am is the earliest seating then, so make reservations. The choux pastry donuts are awesome .. worth every calorie! Prices are reasonable for the fare and location, since it is mostly locally sourced. Couches and arm chairs with occasional tables, set the stage for a quiet soiree with friends, in the adult only lounge. (It is adjacent to the family dining room.) While there are menu accommodations for the younger members among the group this is a restaurant for well supervised children only ... (there is no extra floor space, for play) Our 3 year old granddaughter was taken for a walk while the food was being prepared!

Great food, ambiance and service

By Marijke R |

The oysters and lobster rolls were amazing. Same goes for the cocktails. Great place for a full dinner or just a drink and snack. Tip: make a reservation! We ended up waiting for 30 minutes to get a table.

Perfect pitch

Frank's Oyster House knows what kind of environment it is and behaves accordingly. It provides a welcome, elegant yet comfortably casual atmosphere, great service, drinks and food. We are always delighted.

Outstanding Oyster Po'Boy

By B. Richard |

If nothing else, go for the sandwich...comes with salad, $14. The batter on the oysters best ever. Bottomless Ice-tea carafe. Eat in the parlor..more festive.

A bit of the bubbly

By Melanieames |

I've been to Frank's twice this year. Its a bit of a drive for me, but worth it! Does the phrase bottomless mimosa mean anything to you? If so, this is your place! You can order these tasty numbers for $15 and the bartender just keeps 'em coming! This is perfect for a girl's brunch or bridal shower. But whatever the occasion, this place has the food and ambiance to make your visit worth while. My friend and I shared a plate of homemade doughnut holes with berry sauce and mascarpone. Exquisite! I didn't have time to try everything I wanted. It all looks delicious. The surrounding neighborhood has a good mix of residential homes and commercial businesses so parking can be a challenge. Each time I've visited, I parked a couple blocks away. Parking nearby is free and you can walk easily from any direction. The wallpaper in the rest room is so unique that my friend took a picture of it. You should check it out!

Happy Hour and Brunch

By john19532015 |

Happy hour at Frank’s is wonderful (five stars). Nice atmosphere and staff, very good drinks, and good bar food (homemade potato chips, mini slider tacos, popcorn). Have gone there many times. Brunch at Franks was OK (three stars). Pleasant, good food, nothing special. On balance four stars.

Excellent food and service

By Patti4709 |

Went with adult children here on a Tuesday night and had a delicious meal with excellent service from Jason. We had some of the best oysters I have ever eaten from Willapa Bay in Washington- went perfectly with a glass of very dry French champagne. We got to our reservation early so took advantage of happy hour oyster prices as well as wine then had meals - I had very good steak with spicy broccolini and others had burgers that got great rating. Also sampled was excellent raw salmon and grilled Brussels sprouts Dessert was amazing chocolate cake about 6-inches high! We will come again for sure.

Best menu ever

So many wonderful items on the menu that I have to go back. Had crab mac and cheese and it was outstanding. Their biscuits were delicious. Also had waffles and chicken and they were awesome.

Good Food and They Take Breakfast Reservations

By Patty A |

I visited Franks with 5 other members of my family for a Sunday Brunch. They take reservations, which generally, any place other than Seattle wouldn't be a plus, but here it is! The food is not your typical eggs and hash browns, but rather beignets with pineapple jam, or chicken fried steak with shiitake gravy. Which by the way were both delicious. My husband had the Spanish meatballs in spicy tomato sauce with confit potatoes which he loved. The casual atmosphere was nice and the two small children that were with us did not seem out of place in this nice, family restaurant. I felt the prices were a bit high for a neighborhood restaurant, but the food was good and we would certainly return to Franks on our next Seattle visit.

Best brunch in Seattle

The food and service are superb! Chicken and waffles are great. The brisket hash with eggs is the best I've had any where! The bottomless mimosas have fresh oj, the toddy is great on a cold morning.

Couples' night out

By VespagirL55 |

We were told that this was one of our hosts' favorite places, and they didn't steer us wrong. Oyster appetizers were presented beautifully on a block of ice. (Happy hour pricing, too!) Nice cocktails menu. Feels like an event dining here in the front window...can't remember the last time we shared an appetizer, cocktails, dinner, dessert AND coffee -- the whole shebang. Service a tad slow; maybe they were short-staffed?

Great decor and atmosphere; excellent service, food and drinks!

Great neighborhood eatery

By Michel_J_L |

Many of the customers are repeat visitors. There is an atmosphere of friendliness and community as you enter the parlor. Whether you are there for the happy hour (inexpensive excellent drinks and oysters at one dollar each!) or for dinner we enjoy the conviviality of the place. Great service. Food is diverse and delicious. Difficult to classify the style of food: universal American? Excellent oysters, always fresh and of origins varying with the season, although always local (i.e. very fresh). The dining room is smallish but he parlor (the bar) is a nice alternative -- same menu, more roomy seating. A friendly place where everyone seems to know each other's name within a few visits. Highly recommended.

Try it, even if you don't like oysters or champagne

By DistantSun_Spain |

We live in Seattle, and Frank's Oyster House is very close to where we live. We tried it based on a recommendation from our friends. My husband and I don't eat oysters, and we don't care for champagne either, but we're happy we tried this place! They have a pretty small menu, but even if you don't like oysters and champagne, you'll probably find something you'll like. We've been here twice now, and we really enjoyed the fried chicken, the white cheddar biscuits, and the house-made potato chips. I also like the espresso drinks they serve here. The only downfall was the bananas foster dessert that didn't "wow" us. Frank's is a little on the pricey side, but I think you won't be disappointed.

Sunday brunch

By foodie7079 |

WTHeck?! I'm super disappointed in our visit to franks. I'm sitting at the table right now and am not the first to say out loud how disturbingly slow and unaffected the service is here. 20+ minutes and so far just water has been served- it's not very busy inside the restaurant- in super confused- there are several staff on hand - please franks what is going on that you can't come together and make a restaurant work like a fine tuned machine?! I've seen street food vending cars with a more professional staff and method of serving. A couple literally just walked out right now and asked if your restaurant was understaffed - because they waited close to an hour for their food and when they asked for the check it was there in 10 seconds. So I just put that to the test - and literally our food did not arrive less than 30 minutes from the time we ordered - and when we asked for the check it was here on our table before I could say "I need to write a review of this place"... it's here and so glad because we will not be coming back!!

Great Service and Excellent Food

By Denver7889 |

We started with an assortment of oysters which presented well and were excellent. We ordered beef tartare which also was wonderful. We enjoyed clams and pork belly and a perfectly cooked steak and potatoes. Devin provided amazing service and made the evening even better. I’m sure we will find our way back again in the near future.

excellent gourmet restaurant in university district

By texantraveler4 |

What a gem this place is! I had just about given up on finding a restaurant of this caliber near the University of Washington. Extremely creative, novel plates. We started with Oysters Rockerfeller, done Pacific Northwest style. Less sauce, more flavor. Excellent. We had three entrees--perfectly grilled char served on a tower of greens and I think potatoes at the base, crispy cod served in a broth of beans, olives and wonderful herbs, and an unforgettably elegant fried chicken breast with mashed potatoes. The one downside of this place is that it is so very tiny. We didn't have reservations on a Friday night and could not get into the larger booths, and opted to share a tiny table in the bar, which turned out to be delightful with a view of the street. With the unfinished wood decor and a rainy night, it feels like you could be at a turn of the century restaurant in a fishing village. Oh--and the other strong part of this place was the waitress, who came up with a different wine suggestion for each our dinners--all of which were a delight to try. This was really well prepared, well thought out food and wine. All of this was about $130 for three, I thought a fair price for such a wonderful dining experience. The waitress told us the same people own "Pair" a restaurant a few blocks up the street, so we went there the next night and were again wowed.

If the staff cared I would have loved this place

By teek4100 |

We met up with a group of 8 other couples, many our first time visiting Franks. We were a little early, on Tuesday for Happy Hour and we showed up a little before 5. Doors do not open early even when they see you sitting outside. 5 on the dot the doors open and 3 of us were the first in. The atmosphere is nice, a really fresh lounge look. I loved it. I loved it until it was clear no one working there Tuesday night wanted to be there and smiles from staff were hard to come by. I started to feel I was putting them out by being customers. So, we tried m any oysters, po boy sliders, pork tacos and popcorn on top of multiple drinks. I loved allot it. However, after leaving our $400 we will not return. Heavens, the gentleman helping us would have cleared well over $100 in a tip had he just lightened up and show we mattered.

We went here during Happy Hour to celebrate our anniversary with oysters and cocktails. Very pleasant atmosphere and great service. Nice small plates also, especially the excelleny devilled eggs...but go for the oysters, at $1.50 each a bargain and very fresh...several varieties available...

Feels more like a grungy Portland restaurant

“Frank’s Oyster house and Champagne Parlor": Strange name for a strange restaurant - it feels more like a Portland restaurant than a Seattle one - kinda weird, very rustic, and a small menu. I looked up the menu on-line afterwards in order to write this review, and it is a very classy website; the actual presentation of the restaurant itself and its paper menu however, is not. When the server came to pour the water, he coughed into his sleeve and seemed generally unhealthy, unkempt, and unbathed. When the waitress was asked what the best things on the menu were, she responded, “Potato chips, hamburgers, fried chicken and the mac-n-cheese”. I wondered if I had just stumbled into a roadside dinner on Route 66. As it turns out, their oysters are excellent, especially the “wildcat” oysters, served on an ice block, up to 6 per block. We also had the clams and lamb sausage that had a great sauce, but only pita bread to mop it up with - it should have been served with plenty of French bread to make it perfect. The scallop-pork potstickers were also very good. We shared the smoked trout mac-n-cheese; I tasted a hint of the smoked fish, but I never saw it; perhaps this is for the best, as it might have otherwise been overpowering. We all had the Halibut and it was fresh and well-prepared. I might go back, especially to try the oysters during the happy-hour, and to beg for some french bread with the clam and lamb sausage. But until they fix the waitstaff issues, there are too many great restaurants in Seattle to chose this as one of my favorites.

Great hidden gem

Looked for oyster houses and up popped Franks. Excellent varied menu including deserts. Smoked pork chop was done very well with just the right amount of smoke. Oysters were to die for. Very fresh and a great selection. We will surely return as good places, really good places, to eat are hard to find.

Not Just a Neighborhood Restaurant

From the frivolous to the profound Frank's rocks! Bacon popcorn?!? Sounds silly, but it really worked. Goat cheese deviled eggs... could have just had these and been happy. With a variety of snacks, small plates, and entrees, you can build a meal however suits you. Oh yes, almost forgot the white cheese biscuits. If you're lucky you'll get one with your entree. You can also order them as a small plate, which will come with a superfluous bit of nicely slice ham that I prefer to remove and eat on the side (and it's good all by itself). Oysters? Pick your variety from whatever is available and fresh that day. Last time we were a party of seven including a (fortunately well-behaved) three-year-old. Everyone ate up everything they were served and only had strong praisefor each dish. The staff was attentive to the needs of the three-year-old, too making sure she was well supplied to bread and milk, while we waited for our food. If you need to know more, just go to their website and look over their menu, knowing that everything is at least as good as it sounds. Then make a reservation. Even if it's not your neighborhood, you can be sure it's worth the drive.
