We happened upon this restaurant after we saw it from the cable car headed to Fisherman's wharf. We looked at Fisherman's Wharf but found things too crowded and too touristy. We headed back up the rather steep hill and found Frascati along the way. We didn't have a reservation but they had an available table We really enjoyed our meal here in this "out of the way" location. We had the bread salad and the two pasta dishes: a pappardelle with pork and a spagehtti with lamb ragu. Both were excellent. The staff was excellent. They have a nice wine list that includes some nice Italian wines. The atmosphere is pleasant and they don't have a television in the dining room which is all to common these days. if you visit San Francisco and want to get away from the tourist areas, I highly recommend Frascati.

The place feels very small and intimate, and the food was very good. The location is a bit of out of the City center but a Cab ride is about 10dollars from union sq. (Plus tips). It was a bit crowded eventhough we were quite early (about 6.30 pm) so if u venture out there, i would recommend reserving a table beforehand. Prices were about 35-49 for a main course, approx. 10-12 for a single glas of red wine.

Great food and service in a lovely neighborhood-a real find! This small restaurant is well-known for its fine cooking and excellent service. I can recommend the ahi tuna, the wild mushroom risotto, and the octopus salad, but it's probably all good. And I loved the line on the bottom of the menu that reads "Cell phones will be confiscated and made into soup."

This is the kind of local restaurant that everyone looks for when they travel out of town. You need local knowledge, ( or Tripadvisor) to ever hear of it, and yet the food and ambiance is wonderful. If I lived locally, this would be my go to place.

My family had a great meal tonight, our last night in San Francisco. If you are looking for a memorable experience, dine at Frascati. We had the tomato bisque and gnocchi appetizers. Pork chop, New York strip and fish main courses followed by cream brûlée and panna cotta for dessert. All were a Wonderful combinations of ingredients creating unique flavors. My 13 year old who normally orders chicken nuggets and fries loved the meal.

This is one of our favorite local restaurants. We were here last night and had the octopus salad as a starter and it was perfectly cooked. We also had the mushroom bruschetta, which was good, too, though not as good as the octopus. For mains we had the pork pappardelle, the duck breast and a steak. The meat servings were on the small side. The pappardelle was spicy, but in a good way. For dessert we had the apple crisp and chocolate bread pudding, both good.

I loved this restaurant. It's in a quiet neighborhood and is truly a gem of a restaurant. We had a variety of entrees, all of which were fantastic. I would say their risotto is their specialty. I also really liked the pork chop! Beyond the food, the atmosphere is great, and the servers were very friendly. This is definitely a place to stop by for dinner when you're in San Francisco.

We hadn't been there in years but wanted to try a quiet restaurant without a "scene" due to the Superbowl being in town the week we visited. We were happy with our decision and enjoyed everything we ordered. Octopus was refreshing with oranges. The perfectly done pork chop was memorable as was the papparadelle. An fruit crisp dessert was heartwarming and delicious. The intimacy, casual and charming dining room and accomodating service was exactly what we were looking for.

We had a great dinner at Frascati. It is a small place, but warm and with great service. The food was excellent.

We came upon this amazing restaurant by chance while looking for a different one when visiting San Francisco. From the moment we arrived we knew it was going to be a fabulous evening. We were met at the door by Jon, the owner, he was so welcoming and was able to seat us in a lovely table for 4 by the window. Our waiter was both friendly and professional and knew the menu inside out. We also met Rebecca who was equally as lovely. As the atmosphere was fantastic we were anticipating the food to be as good and this did not disappoint. Myself and my party of 4 all delighted in eating the most flavoursome dishes we have had in a very long time, our dishes were the pork chop, halibut and fettuccini pasta. Scrumptious desserts followed pana cotta and the cobbler. Overall we all decided this was one of the best restaurants we had been to and promised that once we returned back to the UK we would write a review in the hope that others can enjoy a perfect evening in Frascatis, you will not be disappointed. Thank you Jon, Rebecca and your amazing team.

Small neighborhood place that I wish I enjoyed more often!! Great wait staff, excellent food and very reasonable prices for the neighborhood. One of the few times I won't make individual recommendations but suggest that you just order what sounds appealing and expect to be satisfied!

We live in the neighborhood and this is the most quintessential San Francisco restaurant. You have excellent service and food as well as the cable cars clanging every few minutes out the front door. The gnocchi with fresh peas and mushrooms melt in your mouth and thee duck is seared perfectly. Just remember to make reservations and that if you’re not lucky enough to live in the neighborhood, that parking is scarce so take the cable car or use a ride service to get here.

Great for a romantic night out!! Food is great service is excellent they have a good list of wines to pick from. It's quaint and quiet reservations are available.

We were in San Francisco near Fisherman’s Wharf and looking for a good meal. Using Trip advisor we found Frascati and we are very glad we did. Everything was excellent. We started with burrata and the best steak tartare I have ever had. I then had the lobster risotto and my wife had the pork chop which was outstanding. Much as I enjoyed the risotto I wish I had had the pork chop. All this was accompanied by some reasonably priced wine. If you like fine dining and are in the area this is one not to miss.

to be at Frascati in San Francisco, you're lucky enough. John and the staff are fabulous, the food is amazing, I am lucky enough. Do not miss this GEM and you'll be lucky enough as well.

We struggled for somewhere for 10 on a Friday night but they accommodated us very well The menu is fairly limited but the food is of a very good standard. The kitchen is pretty much on display here and it smells fantastic. First time I've had rare salmon but it was very good. Steak Tartare a little bland, my friend commented

Frascati is warm, welcoming, and has fabulous food! Wonderful neighborhood gem! John and Rebecca are amazing hosts. Their classic bolognese is one of the best in San Francisco. Rebecca's home-made desserts and ice cream are to die for.

Introduced to this lovely family run restaurant by friends who have been coming to this place for years. High quality and original tasting starters and mains. Had the Apple cobbler and the panacotta which were very nice finish to the dinner. Extensive wine list to meet all needs and price levels. This place gets very busy so book early and don't miss your reservation timing.

My wife and I were walking back to our hotel after a visit to Fisherman's Wharf and Lombard street. We decided to walk the Cable care line in case we decided to jump on from our long walk. As we were walking through the Russian Hill neighborhood we came upon the front of Frascati. I stopped, looked in, read the menu, and called for a reservation later that evening. We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation and luckily they had an open table. The restaurant is quaint and, as expected, busy this Saturday night. I could go on-and-on about this place but sometimes words just don't explain the experience. This was the last night of our 10 day trip and it could not have ended on a better note. The waitress was friendly, the wine choices were good, and the food was off the hook. We even ordered dessert which we rarely do! Anyway, thanks for sharing your wonderful place with us.

John, Rebecca and their team are AMAZING. I have been coming here monthly for two years as this is an extension of my home. The food and wine are worthy of a Michelin ⭐️. The wine list is extensive and the main courses are limited, the mark of a great place. You'll be honored to have visited.

Spotted this restaurant on the cable car ride & book it through OpenTable for the same evening. It was a pleasure start to finish. Our table was up stairs with a bird’s eye view down into the kitchen and restaurant. We never have a three course dinner but it was our last night in San Francisco, the starters (burrata & steak tartare) amd mains (salmon risotto & fettuccini bolognese) were so tasty and it was Paddy’s weekend we went for Bailey’s cheesecake. Dario our waiter was so insightful and present. Highly recommend

We visited for dinner, ordered a he duck and linguine entrees. Food was excellent. The tomato soup was maybe the best I’ve ever had. The octopus salad is a must try. Dessert and coffee were also very good. Service and ambiance are very good.

A special evening created by the team @ Frascati From the moment I reached out to book to the time we left the restaurant we felt nothing but valued and appreciated. The service, the food (you have to try the homemade desserts!) and the ambience we fantastic. I could not have asked for a better experience for myself and the customers I was hosting.

We were here two years ago on our last visit to San Francisco, and quite enjoyed the overall experience, so this time around we made sure to include "Frascati" on our very short-list of places for Dinner on the few nights we had in this wonderful City - we were reasonably pleased with our choice. We got here by Number 45 Bus which left us off just up the street - our thanks to the Driver who, helpfully, gave a "Shout-out" at the appropriate Stop. So, we were welcomed well, and were brought to an upstairs Table, at a window, as we had requested when making our Reservation. As we've discovered, who's responsible for what in restaurants in America is just a little confusing : we first were dealt with by Michael, who then passed us on to another guy called Abi, but reappeared later when Abi apparently got re-assigned to other Tables - we would admit that this all confused us a bit, but so be it. Anyway, from a quite adequate Menu, for "Starters" we had "Wild Mushrooms Bruschetta" (quite good), and a "Duck Confit Salad" (excellent) ; for "Mains" we selected a Duck Breast Dish (my "Better Half", M, considered it OK), while my own choice of the "Filet Mignon" proved to be a bit disappointing - Chefs, apparently, just don't like cooking something to "Medium-Well" level, so what I got was their preferred "Medium-Rare" offering. Between us we enjoyed a Bottle of Sonoma Coast Fume Blanc, while M also had a Glass of Pinot Noir with her "Main" - both Wines were more than acceptable. The upstairs space we were in was quite compact : sadly, we had to endure some over-loud voices from Tables around us - how interesting it is to note that at each of those four-person Tables, one person's loudness dominated! Anyway, we quite enjoyed ourselves : Atmosphere very good, Service reasonably so, Food definitely quite good, (without being "Excellent", and certainly not "Outstanding") We greatly appreciated that the personable Owner, John Rader, came and checked our experience with us - thanks John! Our Check/Bill was quite reasonable (this is not an inexpensive City, it should be said), and with the help of both Michael and John, we took a Cab back to our Hotel, having had a reasonably Good experience at "Frascati".

We very much enjoyed our dinner at this cosy restaurant. The food is of great quality; you can tell they use fresh high quality ingredients. Portions are quite big, at least for us Europeans, so we only shared a starter and had a main course. Staff is super friendly and service is fast. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful meal here with friends. The trolley car goes right by the window! We all had different entrees so we could try lots of tastes. The pork chop with farro is wonderful. Start with the gnocchi and the buratta. You won't be sorry!

You definitely have to reserve a table here. We were there on a Monday and it was almost full and early, as the Americans do tend to eat early. The food was excellent and the service exemplary. I would highly recommend. Good selection of wines too. A great way to spend a birthday with family.

The staff was very attentive. We had filet mignon and halibut which were both excellent. We actually sat next to some locals that were so nice we felt like we left with new friends.

My wife and I dined there this week for the 5th time in 3 years. We come to San Francisco for a week once a year, and each time in the last 3 years we've come to Frascati for dinner. They are remarkable. The quality of food is first class and delicious. Salads, pasta, seafood; all superb. Beyond the food, what makes it exceptional is the quality of service, the welcoming staff, excellent wine list and warm, intimate, inviting environment on a Hyde street corner with the cable car coming by every so often. You should have a reservation.

Quaint corner bistro that is busy every night - wonderful menu and fabulous wine list. Atmosphere and ambience aplenty!

I found Frascati through OpenTable, and though it's more of a "neighborhood restaurant," it was worth the trip across town. The service was excellent and all the dishes were great. I loved the duck and the calamari was probably the best I've ever had. I'll definitely be coming back.

This neighborhood gem excels in its service, food and charm. A wide balance of entrees, appetizers and salads make this a worthwhile culinary stop. As foodies my wife and I are always in search of small, out-of-the-way SF experiences, and this is one of the best we've found. Service is friendly, unpretentious, and warm.

We recently went here with some friends who live in the area we were visiting. This spot was very tasty and good value. Pros: -everyone liked their food with the braised Lambert risotto being particularly delicious -good wine list -casual but still nice atmosphere -really enjoyed the assortment of cheeses on the 4 cheese board Cons: -limited vegetarian options if this is a consideration although they did work with us to find something suitable -butternut squash soup was a little disappointing I would eat here again.

While on vacation in San Francisco, I came across FRASCATI while looking for restaurants to dine. Really liked the menu so we took the trip. From the moment we walked in I new I had gotten lucky. Amazing food and service!!! We will definitely go back for dinner before we leave the city… highly recommend!!

This restaurant is a little gem. Food and service are consistently great. The home baked desserts are beyond amazing.

We shared the gnocchi appetiser...it was good...I got the filet, husband ordered the chicken...both are easily the best we have ever had (including MY cooking...ouch!!) Will defiantly add this to our must repeat list!!!

Expensive? Mmmmmm Food is deliciouse, fresh, well done, well served and very authentique. The best I've tried in a month of travelling in California. The Duck and the Pork where fantastic. But cant get better desserts. Yes, you have to expend a few bucks, but they leave an exquisite flavor in your mouth! Yeah

We wandered upon this eatery when the restaurant up the street took our reservation then told us they did not open for another 30 minutes!!! Although busy Frascati made immediate room for us and we were not disappointed with our food. Owner was present and checking in with folks. Always good to see. I would definitely check it out!

Met a good friend here for dinner. He had lived in the neighborhood and we were visiting the San Francisco area. It was a quick drive from the Omni at California and Montgomery. Our friend had the front window table waiting. Great view of the tree-lined neighborhood. Service and food were incredible. Starters were gnocchi with corn, peas, tomatoes, mushrooms and their flatbread. So flavorful. Pork chop was perfectly cooked to asking. Seafood linguini with scallops, mussels, clams was very tasty. Great neighborhood restaurant not to be missed if you are in town visiting the area.

Lovely Italian restaurant in SF. Wonderful food and wine, and fabulous service. Wasn’t cheap, but the US isn’t these days, however I would thoroughly recommend it. I had goat’s cheese salad with strawberries, fresh fettucine with beef, and apple cobbler.

I had made a reservation long before my wife Erika and I could actually show up at the Frascati in San Francisco. The restaurant served in a mediterranian style ambiente and the dinner proved to be excellent. Fortunately I had picked the right place from far away-which is Germany- just to celebrate my wife´s birthday at this remarkable restaurant with as fancy as it is the famous cable car passing by at comfortable intervals.

Recommended by a local friend, this little place turned out to be a gem. The food was very good, wine list moderate in depth and very good prices and super service. The neighborhood is great for a stroll before of after. If you like Italian food, this is worth a try. I will go back.

Conveniently located along the Hyde Street Cable Car route. We started off dinner with the Burrata and Bruschetta and both had a great flavor. Main courses were their homemade Linguini, a good choice; Duck was delicious but unfortunately the caraway spaetzle was overwhelmed by the sauce; and their Pork Chop was moist and flavorful something many restaurants have never been able to combine.

We were concerned when we arrived and found that WE were off one day on our reservation. No matter, they worked us in. Excellent all around, particularly the wait staff. I had the flat iron steak which was excellent and done perfectly. The rest of the table was also quite pleased with their selections. WE did not have any desserts but they looked yummy.

Met old high school friends that haven't seen each other in 40 years. Friend lives in SF and adores this restaurant, for good reason. Sat upstairs where it was a bit quieter, but it's right above the open air kitchen and got a bit toasty. Started with a nice red and shared the bread salad between 3 of us to leave room for the entre and dessert, of course. Two of us had the Tagliaterre pasta with lamb ragout sauce, which was fabulous. Friend thought there should've been more pasta in the dish, but I savored the meat sauce finished with the blackberry sorbet and we all shared the chocolate cake with ice cream, which was an incredible combination of flavors and textures with the hazelnuts. Overall the dinner was fantastic. The only negative was an overly talkative server who regaled us with tales of the logistics of working in the restaurant when we preferred to spend the time chatting among ourselves. He also refused to take our appetizer order until we were ready to place our entire order, which seemed to be more for his convenience than ours. One star off for intrusive server chatter but otherwise a 5-star experience.

We were seated on the upper level and it was almost unbearably warm. It made it hard to really relax and enjoy our meal. I made the reservation through open table and mentioned it was our anniversary week. We got no special wishes or table so that was slightly disappointing. My husband and I shared the bread salad. It was quite tasty but I wished I had not had bread before it came. There was a lot of bread in it. My husband and I both ordered the short ribs. They were melt in your mouth delicious. The service was good. The only drawback was that the Restaurant this very small and not so relaxing for that reason and it was way too warm upstairs.

You can tell the difference between a pseudo Italian restaurant and an authentic one by the quality of the olive oil it puts on the table. Although the menu signaled tired tried and true dishes, the real negative began w. the olive oil: brought to the table in an unattractive bottle with a cork for pete's sake! greasy to the touch, you have to pull out the cork (why not a pouring spout?? a bottle with handles??) and pour. I smelled before the pour and knew it was not a good oil by that alone. The taste confirmed it and it was downhill from there. Bread nothing to write home about in a city with GREAT sourdough all over the place. I ordered the cheese plate to start. When it got put down in front of me it was totally unappealing in color. The server made a point of saying that on the side here, "are candied apricots"!! what a total JOKE! they were ordinary dried apricots, dry being the operative word. I could see this, I did not have to taste it but I confirmed this by taste. There were some green apple slices, (sour) the top one had some core left on it. Under that was this red stuff that was a slightly bitter jam, perhaps a tomato chutney but I could not figure it out. Some walnuts some almonds, the cheeses were ordinary and small. I left most of this dish. I ate the cheese but I longed for something a tad sweet to create a contrast. Then I had the duck breast salad. Truly I could have eaten something better off the salad bar at Whole Foods. The duck was dry, chewy and old tasting, the dressing was a standard affair. I did not finish it. There is another duck entree on the menu and I am sure they are recycling what they don't use on any one day into this insipid salad. The dessert was good, the only thing of all our dishes that was. My husband had the chicken and I was surprised how bland the taste was, tough, stringy and dry. He left a lot of it. The prices for the level of food here were ridiculous! only adding insult to injury. Even the servers in my opinion, 'get' this. This place is just racking in the money and do not care a jot about their customers. I felt embarrassed for them and could not even look our server in the eye by the end of the meal. The lighting in our upper backroom, was dreary, like a worn out bar. Nothing sparkles here, don't go. Want nice meal in a similar place but really really tasty and at the same price? Try L'Ardoise, Noe. Shame on this place.

What a fun find! Tasty well prepared seafood, chicken and Italian favorites. The 1/2 chicken was moist and well seasoned. The watermelon salad was in season and simply beautifully presented. A nice wine list, thoughtful servers and a sinful black & white bread pudding dessert made fresh daily by their family pastry chef. We arrived early and had a fabulous table in the window to watch families, dogs and the cable car roll down the street. We will be back!! Ask for Gabrielle their new server who made great recommendations.

We really enjoyed our dinner here. It was a family dinner with multi generations. Wide range of likes/dislikes and allergies. Everyone found something they liked and were happy with. Duck was expertly prepared and seasoned and was my favorite dish. Service was attentive and friendly. Also I appreciate them taking kids allergies very seriously, not all restaurants do.

Being tourists, we rode the cable car up this quaint street, Hyde, and watched a series of interesting looking bistros along the way and decided that we'd do a bit of research to find a place for supper (I eat supper). Turns out there are a lot of very good choices nearby but we chose Frascati and really glad that we did. Everything was excellent. The service. The food. The atmosphere. The wine choices. The smells! I don't fawn over many dishes but the gnocchi appetizer was exceptional. The menu is varied with something for everyone and I have the distinct impression that they'd customize to your taste ...

We ate there twice in three days. Everything we tried was excellent: mushroom bruschetta, duck, tomato soup, risotto, and a superb pork chop. There is a lovely Rioja on the wine list which is worth the $68 or so. Great service, nice atmosphere.

Great fresh Italian food in a quaint neighborhood setting. The menu changes every night so be prepared for fresh seasonal ingredients.

From the appetizers to the main course everything was very good. Our group of four all order something different and no one was disappointed, however the duck was the favorite! YUM!!! The chicken was SUPER tender and flavored perfectly as well. Will definitely good back!

Good food. Great service. But a bit costly. Once, it's one of my standby restaurants. I've been going there for years. But have tapered off over time

You might say this is kind'a out of the way. But I assure you it is great food and service. My wife's birthday came cake and candles and great glasses of sparkle. My steak was as good as it gets.

This is such a cute, quaint restaurant! The owner greeted us at the door. Service was excellent! Only reason I didn’t give it a 5 was because foos was very good but not spectacular. I would definitely go again. If you are looking for a great neighborhood restaurant this place is awesome. We took our four kids and they were treated wonderfully. There were several families already eating when we arrived for our 6:30 reservation. This place is also very romantic.. just fo a little later.

This is a wonderful Italian place with excellent food, warm ambiance, nice people and a very good wine selection.

I enjoyed the meal immensely. The stone fruit bruschetta was amazing, as was the gnocchi. We were very glad to find this little gem. Next time, I would perhaps ask for a table downstairs, as the upstairs seemed quite loud.

This wonderful place is a treasure for San Francisco, not just the Russian Hill neighborhood. First, the owners and staff are fantastic. Second, the food is delicious. Third, the atmosphere is cozy and lovely. If the weather is good, you might even be able to sit outdoors. They are so welcoming to neighbors like me -- they always squeeze me and my friends in. It was rated one of the Top 100 Restaurants of San Francisco, which is really saying something. The menu is not huge, and includes only wine and beer, but the food is delicious. John, Brian, and everyone else run a great place!

Booked Frascati after searching for a special restaurant while in San Francisco. Frascati did not disappoint. The local, small-town, home-owned feeling was evident right away; no doubt they have regulars. We sat downstairs and could see the trolley pass by. We had the Octopus Salad, which was amazing and the Fresh Fettuccine with Bolognese. It was THE BEST we have ever eaten…Fresh, flavorful, delectable. Thank you for a night in San Francisco we won’t forget.

Our party of 4 enjoyed a lovely dinner at Frascati. Upon arrival we were greeted and seated immediately in the sophisticated yet comfortable atmosphere. The restaurant is very open concept with an open kitchen, dining space and upper mezzanine with additional seating. Do be aware that the bathroom is significantly minimized to a single tiny stall to allow for a more enjoyable dining experience in the main level! (Don’t worry, you won’t want to spend too much time away from the beautiful dining room and great food always) We began our evening with a cheese plate which was perfect for sharing and very well done. Both of us couples ordered the bread salad which was incredibly tasty. Followed by one order of the steak and the other of chicken. Both were well cooked, seasoned and presented. Our server was great to offer menu recommendations and was very smooth in his transitions between courses. He made our experience very enjoyable, I wish I could acknowledge him by name however I cannot quite remember what his name was. He was younger aged, tall, polite, and very friendly. (If he sees this, we were the party of 4 from Canada! THANKYOU for your amazing service!) I would highly recommend this restaurant!

Best Bolognese! Yummy authentic Italian food & a warm and friendly environment. My husband and I were traveling to San Fran for our 6 year anniversary and stumbled upon this gem. Can’t wait to return back to see the owners Jon, Rebecca, Fabio & staff. Everyone was very attentive and kind!

What a great find in Russian Hill! The host at the front was extremely polite and welcoming. The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff was very professional. I enjoyed their Osso Bucco and a glass of wine while watching the chefs work in an open kitchen which was very entertaining. Spectacular food, great atmosphere, professional service... what more could one ask for?

I went there for dinner. The food tasted really good but not many choices. I like their duck dish. Will definitely go back.

We were lucky to get in on a last minute Sunday night booking (due to the NBA playoffs), but all luck to us. We got a prime window seat and magnificent service. And the food was superb. The duck was to die for, the salad was exquisite, and the pasta was home made silken perfection. This restaurant has been going for 20 years and we could see why. A real San Francisco gem.

Friendly and attentive service. Pasta is made on the premises. Fresh seafood and delicious dishes. We would definitely go back.

We happened upon this one just by walking by. Not a big place so best to make a reservation. We didn't have one but the staff was accommodating and we managed to get a place at the bar. Wine selection isn't huge but what they have is very good. The meals are excellent. As mentioned, restaurant is cozy and a little loud but not overwhelming. The kitchen is actually right on one side of the restaurant for everyone to watch the prep in action. That being said there wasn't a major food or smoke smell so their exhaust system was working well. We really liked our desert as well! Overall great dinner.

My husband and I were only in San Francisco for a couple of days and basically stumbled across this lovely restaurant on Easter evening (of all days). I really wasn't expecting to find such a gem open on this holiday. The dinner was exceptional from the appetizer selection to the dessert selection. There is a lovely wine selection. The service was outstanding. The cutlery and dishes were changed out for each course. I had an octopus salad then duck breast for the entire'. Both were fantastic! What a delightful restaurant. We will definitely be back!

Frascati is a small and quaint restaurant with very friendly staff. They are very good at helping with allergies and we had no problems after. The food is absolutely delicious! I had the fish 🐟 with cauliflower and romanesco sauce and I highly recommend it. It was so tasty! The burrata, the chicken, the beat salad were some favorites. We will go back!

Nice wines available at this lovely little Russian Hill restaurant. Perfect for a date. Don't sit on the upper floor, however, as it is too hot up there. Linen tablecloths and beautiful and delicious food.

is this very special small intimate restaurant on Hyde Street, we love the ambiance, very low key, neighborhood, small...yet with a certain formality that just fits....every person so personable, and the food...…….well, the best pappradelli ever...salad delicious..just a perfect meal. ...in a lovely place. Thank you Frascati!

atmosphere was superb. Service and food were even better. Had the Alaskan Halibut and the duck as entrees and were excellent.

Just back from a delectable dinner at Frascati. We started with the gnocchi appetizer - an absolute melt-in-your-mouth delight bursting with flavor! Then, we enjoyed the homemade fettuccine as well as the homemade pappardelle. The service was extremely attentive. Great location, fantastic service, and delightful meals make for a wonderful evening!

We had the luckiest walk-in ever! We were aiming for another restaurant but decided not to go there and ended up walking these neighbourhoods. We walked by this restaurant and immediately thought it looked interesting. We were hungry and it was cold and late, so we went in. Lucky us! The place was half full and we got a table right away. We skipped the starter and chose bass and chicken. The flavours! The chefs really works with the seasoning. The food was well made and delicious. Good wine and friendly atmosphere. The only thing I would change was the espresso. Work on making a decent coffee and I would be even more pleased. I would definitely go here again.

Somewhat smug wait staff, but ended up receiving all the food we asked for in a timely manner. We showed a little early for our reservation and was seated immediately. Overall, food was decent and table in the window was great.

My husband and I had dinner at Frascati on our first night in San Francisco, and it was one of our favorite meals of our trip! We started our meal with a cheese plate, which was very good. We also had the Russet Potato Gnocchi, which was tasty, but I thought the thyme overpowered the white truffle oil. We also had a salad and they were nice enough to put the almonds on the side per our request, since my husband is allergic. For our entrees, my husband had the Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast, which he said was delicious. I had the Pan Seared Filet Mignon, which was cooked perfectly medium as I had ordered. I enjoyed the vegetables and the red wine demi. For dessert, I had the lemon pavlova, which was the first time I had pavlova. The consistency took me by surprise but it was delicious. My husband had the peach-blueberry cobbler, which was a perfect balance of sweet and tart. The service was excellent. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The courses were perfectly timed. The ambiance of the restaurant was lovely. We were seated between the bar and the windows. The restaurant was a little loud at times because of some other patrons but that wasn't the restaurant's fault. The prices were appropriate for fine dining but not overly expensive. Overall, we had a very nice dinner and would probably return if we visit San Francisco in the future.

We absolutely loved this restaurant. We had the most beautiful gnocchi (including eating lots in Italy!!) in this restaurant. I had the parpadelle with pork ragu, which was delicate and light - a fantastic recommendation from a wonderful waiter. My other half had the half chicken and adored it. it was really juicy and succulent. He then had warm black and white chocolate bread pudding - it was huge and delicious!! You are asked on the menu to not use cell phones - which was lovely!

We pasted Frascati on the trolly car one day and saw the place was full , we took the details down and booked a table for the next night for a 7.30 dinner , the greeting at the door was very welcoming and you just felt you were in for a good night with all the lovely smells of fresh cooking , the wine list is good and I would recommend the Chablis , we had the chicken dish and the fish dish both wonderful , if you are ever in the area this place is a must .

We decided to go somewhere off the beaten path, and found Frascati online. The wait staff was extremely attentive, the food was delicious, and the dessert was as well. We really enjoyed our visit and dinner here. My only (slight) issue was that the building did not seem to have working A/C that day, and it was getting quite warm inside. Most patrons chose to sit on the sidewalk outside. Still a great experience!

Just took my daughter and friends to dinner at Frascita last week. It was simply delicious ! Great service, excellent food and a fantastic vibe. Not cheap but you get what you pay for ! Will make it a regular dining spot when visiting my daughter. Enjoy !

2 of our 5 diners were an average, others goof to very good. It isn’t as good as previous visit promised but still ranks as a solid neighbor restaurant with high prices. Halibut undercooked and average gnocchi while chicken and Bologna’s shined Very good burrata salad and bruschetta Desserts were excellent, terrific bread pudding Service average, wine list unremarkable and pricey. Parking is AWFUL.

Passed by this restaurant on a walk through Nob Hill and decided to return for dinner. Very happy that I did! In fact I took the chance of bringing a group of colleagues and everyone enjoyed their meals. The food was excellent as was the service. Too many great choices on the menu to recommend one particular dish. Our server was also quite knowledgeable about the wines.

The food was good, The service was competent. But the prices are too high even for good Italian food. The wine was also much more expensive than in other restaurants at the same level in San Francisco.

We saw this restaurant whilst riding the cable car. Looked it up, liked the reviews and hoped it lived up... It certainly did! Food was divine, service excellent! There was a bustling vibe, but very relaxing. Staff were attentive, and so helpful when choosing dishes and accompanying wines. Loved the atmosphere and food. Left the restaurant and hopped on the cable car back to the hotel. Not the cheapest restaurant, but well worth it. Halibut was delicious, and bread pudding was amazing - I read the previous review, it was spot on. I'd love to go back there next time I'm here.

Walk in and it feels like you live in the Russian Hill neighborhood—like a local. Small, great place to talk, and always a delicious menu of local favourites and seasonal surprises. Tourists don’t outnumber locals which is a big plus and good sign.

The Frascati brings you back to the yesteryears when life was relaxed, easy and you had time to enjoy food, great company and great conversation. The location with outdoor tables "tram-side" is wonderfull, the service is kind and relaxed, while the food really speaks for itself: I had the best Halibut ever at Frascati, and my friend had the most wondeful duck. This is indeed a great place to enjoy a slow and relaxed dinner in good company. Thank you Frascati! PS: Also the wines are wonderful, and well priced

For a terrific meal, with superb service, and a view or two of Cable Cars, head to this delightful neighborhood bistro and let the eating begin. A recommend or two for the beginning: burrata with proscuitto di Parma, basil, balsamico, and fig jam with toasted baguette. Sit back and savor the flavor. Yet another possible opener: smoked salmon bruschette. And should you consider a salad in addition to or in place of a starter, give the heirloom tomato salad a go. Now to the entrees: fish interest you? If so, go for the perfectly prepared pan roasted Alaskan halibut and you will be a very happy diner. Steak? Yes, the flat iron steak. And for the pasta lover in you, by any and all means give the fresh papparadelle made with sugo and its entirely compatible friends a go. Wines. No need to pore over the selections as you can rely upon the cracker-jack wait staff to do a great pairing. So go.

We come here regularly for a light dinner and always have a very enjoyable time. Excellent personable service. Cooked as you like. Very sweet vibe on Hyde!

We always visit this restaurant while in SF and our visit this time was not a disappointment. The food here is always excellent and we feel that this is one of the best restaurants in the USA. I note that there are a few slightly negative comments made but part of me feels that as the comments are made by Americans, who frankly have a tendency to over sweeten everything to the point of nonsense then they perhaps do not have the sort of palate suitable to the sort of European style food that Frascati serves. I note one comment about wanting something sweet with the cheese plate!!! For goodness sake, order a pudding if that's what you want. My partner had the duck and he claims that its the best duck dish he has ever tasted. i am a vegetarian and they always manage to create a dish for me that is full of flavour and taste. The atmosphere is always intimate and the waiting staff are always polite and helpful.

As we tend to do, we had, planned quite a bit of our week-long visit to San Francisco well in advance - my "Better Half", M, had persuaded me to endure an 11 Hour Flight to experience the West Coast of the USA for the first time as a Couple. From my researches, I had identified "Frascati" as a very desirable/well-regarded venue to go and "eat-out", so we duly arrived here, slightly ahead of our 7.45 p.m. Booking on a Saturday night. Apparently, the area is known as "Russian Hill", the actual address being 1901 Hyde Street. The premises (quite compact - on a Corner) were attractive, outside and in - we were very well-received, by the Owner, John, who conducted us to a super Table, at the Front Window. So far, so good, as they say. "Frascati" has a pretty good Menu : a choice of 5 "Starters", 4 "Soups & Salads" + 8 "Mains", with most tastes catered for in what's on offer. As we sometimes do, we decided to share a "Duck Confit Salad" to start with, followed by "Wild Mushroom Risotto" for M, and "Fresh Pappardelle" (a favourite Pasta) for me ; from the Wine-List, we opted for a Bottle of Viognier, while M also order a Glass of "Red" to accompany her "Main". From the outset, our "Server" failed to impress : a man of mature years, he almost immediately gave the impression that he had long ago "given-up" - sure, he might utter a few words, but no way was he going to display any enthusiasm for anything, or "engage" in any way. (In saying that, we must acknowledge the difficulties impressive Restaurant Owners, like John, must have in securing the services of competent, effective, customer-friendly Servers - in another Restaurant, not very far from "Frascati", we had problems with a much younger Server, who was, robotically over-enthusiastic & extremely intrusive, spoiling our night). Anyway, our shared salad was very good, M rated her Risotto "Main" quite highly, but my Pappardelle was extremely disappointing : the Pasta was noticeably over-cooled and the Sauce was far too watery. (We did give feedback on all of this to our recalcitrant Server, but we doubt it went any further). The Viognier was excellent, by the way, and M enjoyed her "Glass of Red" too. Our overall Bill/Check was reasonable, in what is truly an expensive City. Impressive from the outset, John made sure to give me the copy of the Menu I had asked for, and was extremely prompt in organising a Cab for us. If we were in San Francisco again, we would, in all honesty, give "Frascati" another "go", in the particular hope that we would encounter a more capable & better-motivated Server, and also that a "Pasta Dish" might work out considerably better than on this occasion.

We had a truly wonderful experience at Frascati. Great food. Terrific service. One of us ordered Lamb Ragout and the other had the chicken. Wonderful bread pudding for desert. Unlike some other SF restaurants we’ve recently visited that appear to be woefully under staffed, Frascati had more than enough waiters and they all appeared to work in harmony with each other. Highly recommend this place,

I took my fiancée here for a birthday meal during our vacation in San Francisco. Honestly it could not have been better, the welcome from the host at the door, the friendly manager/waiters and the overall vibe from the place just gave us an instant impression of how nice it was! I did take advantage of the $25 corkage option to bring a special bottle of her favourite champagne which made it even more special. The food was incredible, the “secret recipe” oil dip with bread and the gnocchi set us off to a great start, the salmon and risotto were also lovely but the panacotta and the cobbler were amazing guilty treats! Honestly the ambiance was perfect, the staff lovely and even the chefs made an effort to say thank you as we left… if you like great authentic Italian food in a great setting - pick this place.

Our first experience at this Italian hidden jewel! We loved it! For starters, we were seated in a very lovely table with a sweetheart of a waitress, Katie! She was such a great waitress, so attentive. The food was fantastic... fresh pasta and the Alaskan Halibut was to die for! Not to mention their bread pudding! This definitely deserves a return visit!

The triple play of excellence—food, service and ambiance! All delightful. Enjoyed the food so much, we went back the next night. Light and flavorful salads (strawberry was one) followed by perfectly cooked pork chops/ filet mignon/ salmon, finished off with a flourless chocolate bite and olive oil ice cream/ fresh mango sorbet. The owner was friendly and the waiter remembered our allergies the 2nd visit. The smell is good enough to almost satisfy your taste buds. Make reservations! Small place, simple menu, but elegant and delicious food! Short taxi ride from market street.

Wow, what a great find! We made reservations here for our 36th wedding anniversary dinner based on TripAdvisor reviews (thank you everyone who recommended this place!). This is a small, warm and welcoming place to dine. The owners are totally involved and delightful to talk with. And, our dinners were over-the-top delicious . . . can't wait to get back to San Francisco to eat here again!! We started with the Artisanal Cheese Plate and it is probably the best cheese tray we have ever had. The array of choices was delicious and we ate the offerings with the bread that was served alongside, rather than with crackers. My husband had the Bass dinner and declared it delicious. I had the Filet Mignon dinner and it went straight to the top of my "Best of" list. Perfectly cooked and so tender . . . thank you and we will be back soon!

Our best meal in San Francisco, during our short stay. Shame we found it on our last night. I had the short ribs, which were delicious and the carrot cake for dessert was divine. Wonderful staff made for a perfect evening.

We went to Frascati without reservation close to 9 pm and were ushered to the best table of the establishment, the only one that happened to be empty. This is an Italian restaurant that has been around for about 30years, with changing owners. The food has a lot of touches of Italy, but the small menu is not a pasta and pizza menu at all. The two pasta dishes on the menu were variations of Italian classics, e.g. an octopus bolognese. Few choices in all three categories, everything we tasted was delicious except for a burrata salad that was very bland in taste. The three of us shared a carrot cake, which too was delicious, as we were quite full. A nice wine list with decent and reasonably priced choices. A good address.

We had a most enjoyable meal with great food, wine and service. The atmosphere was very cozy and European. Highly recommended.

Fracsati is one of our mandatory stops whenever we are in the San Francisco area. This year we had our grown children join us for a memorable evening of fine food and friendship. Our group of 6 was promptly seated right on time and for the next two hours we enjoyed excellent food and service. Frascati is the kind of special place that makes you want to come back again and again.

Dined here a few times over the years and it's always been great. Tonight however was extremely disappointing. Sat at a claustrophobic table over looking the storage area for extra restaurant chairs. Our waiter (old school career server) was not attentive at all and we felt rushed all evening. We ordered a $75.00 bottle of bubbly which arrived after 5 minutes... fine. We then had to wait 20 minutes for an ice bucket. Bring the ice bucket when you deliver the wine.. After a couple of pours the waiter takes the bottle out of the bucket in a manner that creates the wine to over flow dumping at least a glass onto the carpet. "Oops sorry, don't know why that happened" was his response. That was a glass of wine we wouldn't get back. Oh well ,too bad so sad! What would I have done in a situation like that? Many things... The food was good the service was not. We asked him if it was busy tonight and he said "no it's actually pretty quiet" It was our anniversary ( told the host when I booked) and were looking for a special evening. Unfortunately it was not what we expected or experienced in the past. Think we will try somewhere else next time we are in town. You might want to retrain some of your old school career wait staff to pay a little more attention to their bedside manner and the little details that make for a memorable experience.

My wife and I live 1/2 block from the Hyde line and actually use the service to go downtown for events and dining. Frascati is perhaps on the most charming stretch of the line and always looks warm and inviting as you rattle by on the cable car. Last nite, we decided to head up from our home on Bay and stop for dinner there. I'm really glad we did because it was a great meal with wonderful service. The ambiance here is effused with charm and warmth. It's a casual place but with cloth linens, little candles at each table and an attentive wait staff. We ordered a lovely burrata and heirloom tomato starter with pistachio bits. For the main, I had a very tasty roasted 1/2 chicken (butterflied) on a bed of roast potatoes, Brussel sprouts and roasted sweet onions. My wife had the fresh pasta dish with a Bolognese sauce which was also excellent. We had two glasses on wine from their very extensive wine list. For dessert, home made ice cream and sorbet! There are other places in SF that I would prefer in terms of the food, but if you are looking for a romantic dinner, I can't think of a better place. I'd urge you to make the cable car ride part of your visit although at certain times of the year it's difficult to get a ride. Our journey was on a Wednesday night in mid-September, so we had no problems. I recommend the free NextBus app which does a great job for SF buses, trolleys and cable cars -- telling you where each car is in real time and when they will arrive at your location.

Both the service and menu were excellent, and the food did not disappoint! Very authentic and great location.

In San Francisco for a few days, we were looking for a small, non-chain, Italian restaurant. Our bartender at the BV recommended Frascati, "just a few blocks up on Hyde". After a 10 block hill climb we were rewarded with wonderful food, service and the happiness felt with a new discovery.

Scheduled this restaurant for a business meeting and the food and service did not disappoint. The service was attentive and the food was full of flavor.

We were entering another establishment and a woman said we really needed to try Frascoti, only she couldn't remember the name. We had a glass of wine and were thinking of ordering when she came back and told us the name and said we'd have no regrets. Well she was right! We all had excellent dinners, enjoyed casual yet excellent service, and the four yr old's pasta was simply the best ever (mom was thrilled he didn't eat it all). The portions are perfect and every bite was a taste thrill. Chocolate bread pudding dessert was plenty for 2 and clearly homemade. Prices including a bottle of wine were well under what we've paid for similar quality elsewhere.

I've probably eaten dinner at Frascati a dozen times and my experiences there have been consistently outstanding. Their maître d' has been there for a long time and in my book, he's a star. Their food and service are consistently excellent. Their wine list is solid for a smallish restaurant. And they immediately recognize their best customers and treat them like family. When I think of the prototypical neighborhood gem, Frascati immediately comes to mind. Visit them and enjoy an excellently balanced dining experience.

We were disappointed in Frascati . We picked it based on TA reviews but found it to be very , very loud with service that was very rushed . The food was good ( not great) but the experience ,on the whole , was not .

This experience was not as good as previous visits. I had the pan seared halibut which was tough and overdone. My friend had the Tagliatelle which was very good. That is what I would order when I go again.

Thanks to trip advisor , i looked over options for a good Italian restaurant. What a great find! A short uber ride from The Fairmont, my group of 4 stumbled in on a rainy evening, scored a window table and had a fabulous experience. The wild mushroom bruschetta was fantastic as a starter and the pappardelle was perfectly prepared. My guests enjoyed the sea bass and chicken (which was highly recommended). I will certainly go back!

I come here every time I'm in SF and it never disappoints. Local neighborhood place with staff that really like what they do, and really enjoy when you enjoy what you're eating and drinking. House-made desserts are unbelievable - the apple crisp in particular. It's not an Italian restaurant, with a varied menu - the roasted chicken is the best I've ever had. An easy taxi or Uber ride from anywhere in the city, pass on the touristy places and try Frascati.

Walking in I was welcomed warmly. There's a nice cosy atmosphere about the restaurant. I started with the gnocchi, followed by homemade pasta. It was delicious. I accompanied it with a good wine. The evening was perfect. Highly recommended.

A cute restaurant with cosy vibes that serves a mixture of european dishes in their american version ;) We had the octopus salad and the gnocchi to start with. Although the menu states the octopus as the main ingredient of the salad, I must say that in reality you mostly taste the bacon. In general the salad was not too bad but def not something to write home about. The gnocchi was a bit weird - their texture and taste did not match any other gnocchi dish I've ever tried, but in general the dish was tasty. For mains we both had the duck and it was def the main event of the dinner --absolutely delight! In general we enjoyed our dinner although the waitress was indifferent.

I have been with my familiy in this restaurant for the first time when we were visiting California in 2018. This has been a very pleasant experience so I went to Frascati again when I was just recently on a business trip in San Francisco. I‘m happy to say that this was the best dinner during my 5-days stay in this city. Nothing more to add!

My husband and I had the duck confit and filet mignon. The duck and filet were deliciously paired with savory sides. The owners are friendly and welcoming! We would definitely eat here again! Thank you, Jon and Rebecca, for the delightful experience!

Really good Italian. Fresh pasta and really inventive dishes. Twist on old favorites like Octopus Bolognese!! The bread, Cesar salad and dessert were all equally good. Service was friendly and paced correctly. Good selection of wines as well. Reservations needed on a Monday night and with good reason.

Our waiter( a lady was real rude) but the food was exceptional. We were almost an "after thought' but we stuck it out and are glad we did. the food was exceptional.

This is a great small neighborhood restaurant. Got the squid salad and linguine. Recommend highly. The service was impeccable. No liquor license though.

My husband and I had dinner at Frascati on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was full, which made the noise level a bit high but it also gave an alive atmosphere. The food was good, wine list also good and a competent service. If you are not in hurry, and feel like having Italian food, this is the right place.

Stopped by Frascati for dinner Saturday night. Grilled octopus salad for me and bread salad for my partner. For main course I had the duck and she had the blue nose sea bass. Lastly some apple crumble with ice cream. I went with some house reds. She had a nice Chardonnay. Probably my 10th time here. Suggestion book after 830pm and don't get a table near the busing area. This is a small neighborhood place on Russian Hill. Best to call for reservations.

This was my first visit to San Francisco and was recommended to me by a friend, we were not disappointed. We had the late dinner service which was perfect, we were there until closing, the last to leave. The menu was so great we couldn't decide so we ordered 3 entrees, 3 mains and 3 desserts so we could try them all. Just take my word, eat here, you will not be disappointed!! Sorry for the shortage of photos, the menu requested no phones or photos to bring the etiquette back to dining (whoops)

Found this restaurant online via Yelp. Visiting San Fran for our anniversary and I have to pat myself on the back as this was the perfect choice to celebrate our night. When I made the reservation, I explained the occasion and that we were visiting from out of town. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and as if they were truly glad to see us. Great first impression. They had a table for us upstairs right by the window and it was the perfect location - as private as could be considering their floor plan and our waiter, Kai, was awesome. To start we ordered the Butter Lettuce Salad and Potato Gnocchi - both home runs. For the main course, my wife felt adventurous and ordered the Maple Leaf Duck Breast and I had the Pappardelle with Braised Beef Sugo. Fortunately for me, we enjoy sharing our meals. because they were both incredible. I have to say the flavor and tenderness of the braised beef was "off the hook" amazing. And home made pappardelle...what's not to love? We had a bottle of Oregon Pinot which went well with our choices. Had to go for dessert on this occasion, right? Another home run - homemade chocolate bread pudding with hazelnut ice cream - two spoons please! Don't know when we're going back to San Fran but when we do, we'll be sure to make another reservation.

We have been twice during our visit to San Francisco and both times were greeted and served by very friendly staff. The service was excellent and everything we ordered was marvelous. I will definitely return here again when visiting San Francisco.

Why Frascati is down in the 40's of best restaurants in San Francisco I have no idea. This place is brilliant. Having eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world, Frascati is right up there in my opinion. Great food, a wonderful ambiance, and service second to none. The favourite dining experience of my life, made all the more special by brilliant waiting staff and an owner with a great sense of humour. I'll make Frascati my first booking on my return to San Francisco. Well done guys, you're awesome.

My wife and I had been wanting to try Frascati for awhile so getting the chance to eat here on my birthday was a special treat. They even played along with it being a special surprise birthday too which was fantastic all around. The food and the service were amazing! We tried most of the starters (gnocchi, steak tartare, and bruschetta) and they all very good. Our table enjoyed the Fresh Fettuccini, Duck Breast, and Grilled Pork Chop. I had the fresh fettuccini with beef bolognese sauce and it was really tasty. My tastebuds had been spoiled while in Italy so I had high expectations of what I was hoping the meal would taste like. My wife had the pork chop and it was delicious from what I could try. It was a little on the dry side but the flavors you tasted in just a bite made up for that. We also indulged in the desserts too because well you should on your birthday so we had the apple cobbler with ice cream and the creme brûlée. Probably the best apple cobbler I have had in awhile. So high scores for Frascati as our group had a fantastic time and wonderfully enjoyed our evening here. We definitely look forward to coming back.

Had my birthday dinner here. Food was so delicious! Bread salad, rissoto, clam linguini all were awesome! Service was extremely friendly and attentive. Appeared to be lot of locals eating there. Although they don't serve well drinks the wine list is very good. Very boutique feel. Great for romantic dinner or a small group of friends. We are definitely going back.

From A to Z wonderful! If I lived in San Francisco, Frascati would be my regular restaurant! The restaurant has charm, is not too big, cozy and with the white tablecloths also elegant. The service was impeccable, personable, unobtrusive but very attentive. The food was fantastic, starter, main course and dessert wonderful!

Don’t hesitate to try this authentic Italian restaurant! With it’s small but perfectly formed menu this place certainly hits the spot if you are looking for quality Italian cuisine and friendly service. We had the steak tartare and bread salad to start, both of which were nothing short of perfection followed by lamb parpadelle and local bass, both of which were of outstanding quality. Please do not hesitate to visit this little gem of Italian perfection!

Our dinner group goes here regularly. The food is always delicious, fresh, well done, well served and very authentic. The Duck and the Pork where fantastic and our favourites. Tasty desserts and they leave an exquisite flavor in your mouth! Yeah, definitely recommend.

Our first night in San Francisco and walking the neighbourhood we saw this restaurant. What a brilliant stroke of luck. It was early evening and quiet when we arrived but quickly started to fill up. We were greeted warmly and made our choices from the menu Burrata with Grilled Peach, cherries. Pea Shoots Toasted Almonds and Saba and main courses Maple Leaf Duck Breast with Porcini-Asparagus Bread Pudding, Watercress, Pickled Ramps, Hearts of Palm Strawberry - rhubarb Compote and Duck Jus and the Pan Seared Halibut with roasted Fennel, Artichokes, Morel Mushrooms, Mixed Chicory, Romesco Sauce and fine herbs. It was superb. Espresso to finish was perfect as was this start to our San Francisco visit. The service was lovely from the initial greeting to the handshake and farewell. We rarely return to the same place but when we came back to San Francisco after a couple of weeks elsewhere we returned to Frascati and the meals (different choices) and service were all just as good.

Reasons not a 5 star, IMHO: Menu selection so-so, a little pricey for what you get. Ambiance, service, Mahi was all excellent.

We were staying on Russian Hill and decided to try a neighborhood restaurant and it was vert good. Sat at the bar and talked to manager about the restaurant which was doing great business late in the evening. Had the duck which was cooked well and nicely seasoned. Wife had steak tartare and smoked salmon bruschetta which were both excellent.

We came in and immediately felt welcome, they know their hospitality. Great food, must be one of the best Italian restaurants in SF. All fresh with dessert to die for, in almost every restaurant pannacotta is always so so, here it’s the best and not to heavy. We really enjoyed it, even my picky middle boy ate a lot of the pasta. That means something.

San Francisco has no shortage of good Italian restaurants, but my wife and I found Fascati a notch above. Nice ambience, service and food. Get a nice bottle of red and enjoy.

This place has a nice ambiance. The waitstaff was attentive. The food was just so good. Pasta was delicious. Bread salad was awesome. Black and white bread pudding~yummy. Wish this place was in my hometown.

Visiting from Ohio. Excellent food! Flavorful! Just a 15 min. Walk from the Comfort Inn. What a well oiled machine! The manager was on top of things, very mindful of what was going on and attentive to the guests. Small place but all the wait staff moved about each other as if it was a synchronized movement. Was very impressed the manager was helping the staff and filling in what was needed. My impression of a great manager, always!

Food is great. Amazing In my opinion, the owners should not be the ones to wait on tables. They should hire waiters and supervise. One feels pressured because the owners are too busy and cannot even chat with customers. 2-3 more waiters could make a huge difference to help them. Otherwise, everything was superb

Chocolate Bread & Butter pudding is probably the finest dessert I've eaten in the city. and the cable car outside, rich, warm and a real treat. love it. I've been four or five times and its remained consistently one of my favorite places.

We love living in Boise, Idaho. But there's no sugar-coating it. The food scene is abysmal, which is one of the reasons we fly the "Friendly Skies" of United to San Francisco on a regular basis. Frascati epitomizes all that's wonderful about a neighborhood eatery. The menu is a lovely balance of comfort and creativity, with no pretense whatsoever. The setting is delightful (dare I say romantic?) with a warm interior, well-spaced tables, and views of the Hyde Street cable cars "reaching for the stars." My mushroom bisque starter with truffle oil was rich and woodsy -- perfect for a damp Sunday evening. My husband's smoked salmon bruschetta was so divine he hesitated to share even a morsel with me. The duck breast entree was cooked to perfection and nicely accompanied by asparagus and dab of celery root puree. While the sauce was a bit watery, my husband' made quick work of his pappardelle Bolognese. House-made mint chocolate chip ice cream transported me to birthday parties of my youth. The service was professional and unobtrusive under the watchful eye of delightful co-owner Rebecca Rader. If we could persuade her to open another Frascati in Boise, our life in the "City of Trees" would be complete!

What a wonderful family run restaurant, the service is overwhelming atmosphere wonderful and interior charming you would almost think your in Europe, not a ketchup bottle to be seen. The food is lovely menu very simple but perfect just the right amount of choice we will return later in week ..I’m so happy to have avoided the suffocating free refills ...

If you want a place that provides an eclectic mix of local and tourist, provides outstanding service and an amazing menu, this is the place to go. We stop in every time we get to San Francisco (2-3 times a year) and are never disappointed. This time we showed up 20 min before our reservation (5:30 on a Sunday) and were promptly seated and served. Hats off for another great experience!

So...we were asking our Uber driver for a restaurant recommendation for a unique, neighborhood restaurant away from the usual tourist destinations. He sent us to Frascati on Russian Hill. What a find. If you're looking for a quaint, quiet little restaurant with loads of character and great food, try Frascati! I had halibut...delicious! The pasta was also excellent. The house specialty 1/2 chicken, however, stole the show. It was seasoned so perfectly and melted in your mouth...very impressed! Nice wine list too!

Went to this restaurant on while visiting San Francisco over Labor Day weekend. It is a small place but seems well run by an enthusiastic staff. I ordered their roast chicken, and the waiter promised it would be "one of the best five meals you have ever eaten". Well, it wasn't but it was well-prepared and accompanied by small potatoes, brussels sprouts and onions. It was very nice. Another in our group ordered a pasta dish with meat sauce, and she really enjoyed it. A third ordered the flat iron steak and thought it was quite good as well. We were brought a basket of assorted delicious breads with good olive oil as soon as we sat down, and the wine from the wine list seemed well priced and good. We did not have appetizers or dessert but were pleased with our entrees. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice neighborhood restaurant.

Wonderful service, ambiance and food! Shared the gnocchi with friends (fabulous) and had the carbonara, which was homemade and flavorful. Highly recommend this tucked away treasure—make sure you have a reservation.

How disappointing! Ok, the food was good but there's more to a dining experience than food! The waiter was very impersonal. Like he just wanted to serve the food without any cordials. We told him it was our first time here and he just grunted! Shouldn't that have cued him to welcome us and make it a great experience? It also was so noisy that we could hardly talk. I felt I was with everyone else because I heard their conversations better than our own. This place had great review and came highly recommended. Again, while the food was good, we couldn't wait to leave. There are too many wonderful places in San Francisco, so this one is crossed off our list for next time.

Four of us met here on a Saturday evening for a fine meal, except it turned out to be just average. We had the Duck Confit Salad, Octopus Salad, Grilled Break Salads which were all good. The Steak TarTare was just average. We also had Gnocchi for the table which was also nothing to brag about (too much truffle oil). The mains were the Risotto, Duck Breast, Pappardelle and Pork Chop. The Risotto and Pappardelle were, again, just average. The Duck Breast, while good, was not served “hot to the table” and the Pork Chop, while ordered medium rare was served over done. The white beans in the compute under the chop were raw. Although the staff was efficient and friendly, it was not enough to make up for the miss-queues of the meal. We won’t be back and given your vast array of choices in the area…..

I really want to like this restaurant, as it is a popular neighborhood spot. But my return visit a few days ago left me feeling like I had overpaid and been treated with total indifference. (Do they care whether we return or not?) Our server must have been having a bad day or something. She did not interact with us at all, but rather seemed to be merely going through the motions. Dishes were disappointing as well. A bruschetta appetizer ($14.) consisted of two small crostini, about a single bite each. The roasted half chicken came on only a bed of salad greens and costs $28., and the duck was nothing special. With the many choices of local places that serve excellent food in a friendly, warm atmosphere, I regrettably find myself wondering what brings people back to this restaurant.

This small Russian Hill eatery is fairly non-descriptive from the outside. Inside it is warm (especially in the warmer summer days) and lively with great food and an amazing, comfortable atmosphere. There really are not a lot of tables - perhaps room for 75 people or so in the entire restaurant, and as such the feeling is quite friendly and close. Although there is not a full bar, our table started with a nice aperitif that got those digestive juices flowing. Everybody had a starter, main, and desert - and all of the food was very, very good. Well prepared, flavorful and fresh was the order for the evening. I had a very creamy foie gras, which apparently only makes it to the menu every once in a while; my friends had the burrata and other items (also very nice). For the main, the pork chop was surprisingly good - tasty and well done on the outside (almost a bit crispy) and perfectly done on the inside. Desert was also fabulous; while I had a special fruit cobbler, friends just could not get enough of the bread pudding.... and to be honest it was quite a big portion, so some was had by all. Service was definitely on board, replete with stories and a few tall tales. Definitely a great evening had by all.... and will be back.

Frascati is a good restaurant italian (reinvented or modern cousine, I would say) in a very nice area of SF. The main courses start from $27 up to ~$40.

The food was great. The experience terrible. After booking in advance and explaining that this was our 30th anniversary, they sat us at the back of the restaurant with a view of the bathroom corridor and the kitchen prep area which was very busy and cramped. They rushed us through our meal and there was nothing offered in celebration - no complimentary dessert etc. We are visiting from another country and researched restaurants to find which ones were recommended for special occasions and Frascati was highly recommended. I have no idea why............extremely disappointed...........

We’re visiting SF from the UK and have found SF to be extremely spread out so when we came across this highly rated restaurant within 1 mile we thought, fantastic! Well all I can say is this is an absolute must visit for anyone to SF! We enjoyed the gnocchi and soup to start, the chicken and the fillet for main and two desserts. I can honestly say that the gnocchi and chicken are hands down the best food I’ve ever eaten - absolutely fantastic! You must try this place and what’s even better is the cost is really reasonable too - lovely neighbourhood - try it out!!

Well worth the walk up from the Wharf. Wonderful cheese plate. Awesome pork chop. Wait staff very welcoming. Had a great ice cream/espresso dessert. Easier walk back down:).

Fantastic atmosphere, friendly service and the most delicious pork chop I have ever had. Everyone was extremely happy with their meal.

I ordered the pork sugo, which was amazing. The ambience is also upscale and great for a romantic evening. They brag about their bread pudding, which was good but not amazing. The texture of the bread pudding was more like a cake but the flavor was very good.

Great restaurant with fantastic service. Good food and great atmosphere. Maybe a bit pricy but I can really recomend it

My husband and I took a trip to San Francisco to celebrate our 20th anniversary and found Frascati to have our special dinner. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we were made to feel like old friends and were treated so wonderfully! They even had a placard on our table welcoming us and wishing us a happy anniversary. The food was absolutely divine and was some of the best I’ve ever had! The waitress was attentive and made excellent recommendations. Both owners came to speak to us and ensure our visit was excellent. We had many restaurant choices, but we were so glad we chose Frascati to commemorate our anniversary. We hope to come back soon and enjoy this wonderful gem again! Thanks for making our visit so special!

This restaurant was quite busy for a Monday evening. The room is open to the kitchen on the main floor and had a smaller mezzanine upstairs. There was one occasion while we were there that some kichen smoke filled the upper area, not ideal. Furthermore, the evening we were there the toilets were not working and we had to go to the nearby pizzeria to use the washrooms. Weird. My app was a Steak Tartare which was excellent. My brother in law had a good Seafood Bisque. For mains, my wife and brother in law had a bland Lobster Risotto and I had a Seafood "Linguine". The pasta was homemade and good, but was much more a Fettuccine, minor point, though I actually prefer linguine, so I was disappointed. The dessert I had was an excellent Pannacotta. My brother in law had a somewhat plain Apple Cobbler. This was an expensive meal. With a bottle of wine this meal for 3 people was $234 plus tip.

My husband and I dined at Frascati last night. The space is small and charming with sidewalk seating in addition to in-house. The staff could not have been more welcoming. We accidentally arrived an hour early (my mistake) and although the restaurant was crowded, the host hastened to seat us as quickly as he could. The wine was superb (Friuli and Sangiovese), the melon salad a perfect blend of sweet and salty, and the handmade pasta as good as anything I've had in Italy.

What a find! San Francisco has some incredible restaurants but this is a local gem and worth a look. Started with the steak tartare and it was so fresh and flavorful. Next, the squid salad-absolutely incredible. The squid, chorizo and oranges paired well and we couldn't stop forking every last bite. For our entree we shared the pork chop and gnocchi appetizer. The chop was cooked perfectly and so was the gnocchi. My only criticism was the vegetables that they both sat on. Just didn't work for me. Next up the dessert: black and white bread pudding and a scoop of chocolate ice cream. The bread pudding tasted like a big brownie and it was so good. The service is very attentive and we definitely will be back.

If you want to know what it's like to have a great local restaurant in your neighbourhood, try Frascati located in the Russian Hill neighbourhood. More locals than tourists, small menu ( but well done ), great local atmosphere, and the terrific smells from the kitchen hit you as soon as you enter. Great choice for a couple.

After having visited Fisherman's Wharf we went out to have dinner. We found this lovely restaurant and enjoyed risotto, seafood and red wine there and also shared a dessert. The staff was very friendly.

We have eaten at Frascati each time we have visited San Francisco. It is always good food and great service. I would say the quality is as high as some of the Michelin starred establishments with a much better value. Great place!!

A terrible experience, which begins with the environment that, having the kitchen practically in the room, without an extraction system, we even had to ask to be moved to the table because we were literally invaded by the smoke and smells of the kitchen. It is a fake Italian restaurant: the cooks are Asian and the American owners..... it has nothing Italian about it, including the quality of the food which was bad, as well as the presentation of the dishes. It's not even a tourist restaurant!

We had a great dinner at Frascati’s. Good service…warm welcome…delicious dinner. The warm bread salad & pork chop were incredible…one of the best meals we’ve had!

Four of us went for a well prepared, carefully presented and impeccably served continental/Italian dinner. It's located on a warm corner of Hyde street, a neighborhood secret I shouldn't tell you about because we wouldn't want a thing to change. Pappardelle, octopus salad, afogatto, etc etc. All delicious.
Authentic, local, very romantic
Dinner at Frascati is a must on our trips to San Francisco. The restaurant features one of the most romantic tables in the country: a two top on the upstairs railing that looks down into the open kitchen. Seafood and housemade pasta never disappoint - particularly the octopus appetizer. The wine list is expertly curated and the wait staff is very knowledgable. For a great local cab, try the Paradigm.
