Took my wife for her birthday lunch. What a disappointment. They only had buffet available at the noon hour. Only two offerings were worthwhile. The prime rib and the gumbo were fine. The fried shrimp tasted like frozen not freshly breaded, the snow crab was over cooked, the fish was barely edible. Maybe if we were to try ordering off the menu it would be better. But I doubt my wife would ever go.

Started with the shrimp and lobster bisque, had a dozen oysters with the exceptionially good chef made hot sauce, and finished with the Ciopini was excellent, loaded with shrimp, mussels, fish in a buttery broth. Highly recommended, and I'll be back.

We stopped here on a Saturday afternoon to celebrate a birthday. We didn't have to wait at all. The food was good. The catfish platter is not large, it's two squares of catfish and was average in taste. The bacon cheeseburgers looked good, and my husband and son both said it was ok. They don't have steak on the lunch menu and their dinner menu is very pricy for a steak. The cornbread served before the meal is excellent and I highly recommend the desserts. The cost for 1 child and 3 adults with tip came to around $70. (No alcohol)

Their calamari was rubbery and pretty tasteless. Surprised for a seafood restaurant. They are accommodating if you want to change up your order.

I brought my mom, sister and daughter here for Mother’s Day Brunch. We did not enjoy our experience. We made our reservation a week in advance because my mother said that someone recommended it and she kept saying that she wanted to go. When we got there, they sat us right by the buffet area which was very high traffic. There were people passing by our table the whole time or waiting in a line to get their food. They didn’t have a big selection of food to choose from and most of what I did have was not tasty. The best thing they had was the pasta. They had gumbo and yogurt so I went to look for a spoon for the gumbo since they had some silverware in the area near the buffet and the Asian lady at the buffet said there’s silverware at your table…very rude like. I told her that there was not a spoon in our silverware and then she said it was by the gumbo. I looked by the gumbo area and there was not any silverware. There was a nice gentleman…maybe the manager who saw me looking for silverware and went to the back and got spoons for us. When the waiter asked how was our experience we told him that we did not like where we sat and our experience was not good. The manager discounted us a few dollars from our bill…$13 from $180. Maybe my experience was like this because it was Mother’s Day and they appeared to be busy but I am almost certain that I could have had a better experience somewhere else! This was my first time there and I will not be going back. I will not recommend this restaurant for a special occasion!!!

Nice atmosphere tucked in by a hotel, very private feeling. They have part rooms for events. Not my top choice for seafood in the area but OK- worth a mention. I will not oder the oysters on the half shell again there. Just not as fresh and nice as other places and I did not care for their red sauce at all.

We made an early reservation for this restaurant which is next to our hotel (Hampton Inn and Suites - Cedar Park). We arrived at 6PM and were immediately seated - shortly thereafter, our server, Trey, asked us if we had a drink order and provides a summary of the evening specials. My wife decided on the grilled Chilean Sea Bass -which was prepared perfectly. I had the filet mignon and baked potatoes with a side of sauteed mushrooms. The steak was fork tender! The mushrooms were prepared perfectly - still firm, with not covering sauces - just a little olive oil and salt and pepper. A truly delightful meal. When you come to this restaurant - bring your appetite and save room for their excellent desserts (of take one home!). A truly excellent experience.

Freda's has happy hour every day between 4-7, with discounted drinks and delicious appetizers. We ordered the crab-stuffed mushrooms, crab cake, and brisket sliders. We also took advantage of the drink specials. The food was delicious. Chris, the bartender, was helpful and friendly. The menu is extensive with lunch special, dinner options, and an amazing Sunday Brunch. We'll be back--probably tonight.

We stopped here for late afternoon (3:30) snacks and a beer after arriving in Austin. The service was good but waiter would not honor appetizer happy hour prices until 4:00 sharp, so we just ordered our beers and waited. The appetizers were nothing special, and thank goodness they were 1/2 off because Calamari and Artichoke Dip was still $7.00 and the Crab Stuffed Mushrooms were $9.00. Would probably not go back here with all of the other options available.

This was a great find tucked away off the highway, behind a hotel near a nice neighborhood. Food and service was top notch. (pics posted) Atmosphere was great. We could hear the piano player that was in the bar are while we were in the main dining area. We will be going back next time we are in Austin. Our server, Brian, was awesome. I would have never know it was his first night as a server if he had not told us. He did a great job. I'd also like to give a shout out to Ruth who was working with him. They were both fantastic people.

Didn't even know Freda's existed, even though it's only a few miles down the road. Luckily some friends took us out for dinner. So happy we found Freda's. Couldn't decide what to order, everything looked so good. It was a delightful evening. Attentive waitstaff, well prepared and presented food, ample parking. Ideal place to celebrate special evening.

FIRST TIMER - I ordered Sea Bass and Caesar salad which was delicious! Pricey, but delicious. Then washed it down with white chocolate bread pudding. My meal was a healthy size and I didn't feel overly full after. Atmosphere has a business feel with a bar option. Service was on par and my water was never empty. I'd recommend it!

We got together to celebrate a birthday. First sat at the bar where the service was good. Moved outside as the piano player was loud for a small area. The service outside was unacceptable. While they appeared to be well-staffed it was difficult to get anyone's attention in a not too busy setting. Food was good but won't return.

Crab cake was delicious. Snapper Oscar fabulous. Chilean Bass terrible! Tasted fishy & dry. Even with butter sauce, this didn't make it taste any better. I got a stomach ache almost immediately. We didn't stay for dessert, needless to say. Will give Freda' s another chance. Ambience relaxed & casual.

We are regulars at Freda's now and are never disappointed. Their sweet cornbread is served hot and their crisp salads are delicious, as is their gumbo. I usually get the simply grilled fish but their have many choices with shrimp, crab and some etoffees that are delicious. Music to entertain on the weekends, too, and a lovely patio area when it gets a little cooler!

Return to Frieda's for seafood. Nice evening to sit outside, wasn't crowded (Wed night). The salmon stuffed w crabmeat was delicious. It's very convenient to our son's house when we visit.

I had heard of this place for years, but had never been there. I wish I had not waited. The food was great and the service was wonderful. I had the bourbon street pasta and my wife had the lobster bisque. Both were delicious. We also had a crab cake for an appetizer. Very, very good. Lots of crab, and very little breading. Can’t wait to go back!

In Austin for a couple of nights, found Freda’s by accident (next to our hotel). Our party had Calamari appetizer, that was the best we’ve ever had. Very lightly breaded, glad fried and not the slightest bit rubbery. The Gumbo was a 10, okra, sausage, shrimp, just the right amount of spice. Aged ribeye was tender, grilled to a perfect Med rare, great flavor, slightly smoky flavor. The shrimp and crawfish etouffee with a fried catfish fillet was as good as this South Louisiana boy has ever had. Portions were HUGE, lots of leftovers for tomorrow. The service was wonderful, server Dylan couldn’t have done better. Wine suggestion was perfect, water glasses stayed full. We will return.

A couple of times a year I make it a point to get together with an old college classmate for dinner in Austin. We met in 1962 at our first class at Sam Houston State Teachers College (now Sam Houston State University) in Huntsville, Texas. This evening we dined at Freda's Seafood Grille. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. I had the shrimp and crawfish etouffe with catfish and my friend had fried catfish and coconut shrimp. For dessert we each had the cheese cake. And because the weather was so nice we elected to sit outside. This was a great dining experience.

What a fantastic seafood dinner. A group of four of us loved our dinner. We started with the mixed appetizer tray. Shrimp, calamari, bread were all on the plate. It was a great dish to try 4 different appetizers. I had the lobster bisque to start. You really should try. YUM. My meal was a special that was grilled red snapper. It was perfect. My partner had the etouffee. It was awesome. We didn't have dessert so I can't comment on that. The atmosphere was relaxed but nice. The service was impeccable. We had a great waiter. I'm coming back.

Austin's Freda's Seafood Grille provides an outstanding dining experience. On our most recent visit, our server was Kala, and she was excellent, as were our drinks and food. The shrimp lobster bisque was tasty and the shrimp and crawfish etouffee was terrific. My friend was impressed with his fried calamari and the Bourbon Street pasta. The servings are fairly large. We'll certainly return to this restaurant the next time we are in the area.

Over the years I've only been to happy hour and one dinner at Frida's, but recently rediscovered it. Weave darned there 3 times recently and enjoyed every visit immensely. Excellent variety of dishes and great staff. We were blessed to get Matt on two of the three recent occasions and highly recommend him. Fantastic appetizers!! Lunch meals are a bargain!!

Freda's is a long standing go to for date night when hungry for seafood. Quite, consistantly good fresh food and a decent wine list. On cool fall evenings a great patio for a Friday night after work drink. Mostly adults here not a lot of children, which I prefer for date nights. I've been coming here 10 years and will continue to come here.

My go to in North Austin for good, fresh seafood. The lobster bisque and seafood paella is full of flavor and very satisfying. Special lunch menu is sure to please anyone. Crawfish two-ways -- fried and etoufe was tasty!

We're not fussy diners (medium rare vs rare?) but we always have enjoyed our meals at Freda's, including some business dinners we hosted there. Our most recent visit was the evening on which the French ambassador presented our friend with the Legion of Honor for his combat service in WWII, so we were a little dressed up. We wouldn't have fit in at Red Lobster, but we were comfortable at Freda's and had delicious entrees with fancy desserts. The waitstaff was perfect and, although it's a long drive from home, we plan to go back for our next special occasion.

Within walking distance from my hotel & was not disappointed. Great service & spectacular food. My rib eye steak was cooked to perfection. Must try their voodoo greens!

Went for Sunday Brunch. Decent amount of variety, but not quite as good as the Roaring Fork Sunday Brunch. Bloody Marys and cocktails were average. They were doing made to order french toast which was really good, as was the bread pudding. Prime rib was average. Not a bad choice, but definitely not a standout. If seeking a mid priced brunch buffet, would steer towards the roaring fork instead.

After visiting the campus of Concordia University Texas approximately ten mines away, I introduced my brother and his two friends to Freda's Seafood Grille, a restaurant I have dined at on several occasions. As I have come to expect, the food was outstanding and the service was friendly and attentive. My brother and his friends were impressed with Freda's, all vowing to return.

Great hidden place! The live music was nice and the food was pretty good. The happy hour menu was simple and well priced. Will be coming back !

Arrived at 6:30 pm on a Monday night, the place half-empty. But we were told to wait 15 minutes, which we did. When I asked the host why the wait, he said the empty tables were dirty. For 15 minutes? My wife and I got the impression that they regard customers as a sort of a nuisance. The food was very average.

we have been away from Freda's Seafood Grille for a few year. But we were great support since Mrs Freda open way back in 2003. Last night, 11/06/2016 dinner for 4 of us was GREAT * Lobster 8oz was delicious but small and pricey $35 * NY strip steak was excellent and just taste right for me $29 * Pecan Tilapia was yummy $17 * Mojito is BAD (bitter from the lime skin, no taste of alcohol, mint leaf was OLD) $9 * bread pudding $7 ==total bill was $105 + $17.46 tips We remember Mrs Freda's always came by every table and asked how were our foods, but last night there were a older gentlemen walking by to the back a few times but not even care to stop (just happen we sat by the last booth by the kitchen). Not sure was Austin weather last night but the inside temperature was feeling sticky and i dont think the AC was running to help so the atmosphere does not feel pleasant and we had to hurry out. The lady by the front door was not nice at all and make us feel NOT welcome. By the way we called and thought that we may need to make reservation and was the same lady answer our call and definitely need some improve there. We like to come back but guess have to wait and see...

Excellent food and attentive staff. Nice choice of food options and the white chocolate bread pudding was 5 star.

We live in far south Austin and decided to check out far north Austin/Cedar park area ones Saturday. in searching for "near by" restaurant we happened upon Freda's, It was closer to 1:30ish so place was not crowded - sat in the bar (booth/table) and have a friendly waiter. Menu was good selection and reasonably priced. Good service, good food new find and helped make our "north austin" adventure all the better.

Awesome food, ambience, and service!!! I highly recommend the restaurant for couples, business, or friends. Everything was delicious... especially the bread pudding!

OMG!!!! Simply to die for! The Corn Bread and Butter, the Shrimp, the Ribeye, the Shrimp & Grits and YES I could go on and on. Our server whose name was "Beth" was simply the best, she knew her job and was really good at it. This was our first time at this restaurant and we will be returning time and time again

Freda’s Seafood restaurant is always a good experience. We chose them for dinner with friends. The food is always great, service was great this time. And the location is beautiful.

This is the first restaurant we have visited since the 'Lockdown'. Perfect choice to enjoy an outing with Mom. The food was very good, the atmosphere was great and Service, thanks to Carlos, was exceptional. Freda's has the social spacing down, if that is your thing. They are very meticulous with sanitation, if that is your thing. We can't wait to go back to this great place when things are 'normal' Would recommend to anyone wanting a great meal and super service.

Family Birthday and everyone enjoyed everything, especially the crabs and bottomless mimosas as well. Third time I've been all for brunch.

Freda’s provides a wonderful atmosphere to visit, sip a fine beverage and enjoy a wonderful healthy seafood lunch. Family from several locations in Austin met to share stories. The lunch menu is a reduced portion of the evening meal, smaller and just the right size portions. The tasteful salads with warm cornbread were served prior to the entree, and we selected the raspberry vinegarette with walnuts and it was refreshing. I had the seafood gumbo and it compared well with New Orleans seafood gumbo. My wife had the mango tilapia and I-had the peatta seafood. Both were superb. Tis is a quality restaurant.

The trout and shrimp...killer! The shrimp gumbo, mouth fulfilling, and the salads are well done...FRESH!!

We were torn between Eddie V's and Freda's and decided on Freda's for the easier parking and lower prices. Our snapper with crab topping (Oscar) was delicious and perfectly cooked. The steak was too rare, so was sent back and our amazing server, Carlos, returned with a new steak perfectly cooked. This was our second dinner at Freda's, both were 5 stars, and we will be back.

Freda’s is a staple for fine dining. The venue, service and menu are very good. The food is the main reason for me to keep going back. The restaurant is excellent but if you want more relaxed, the bar offers appetizers and music.

Sunday evening was not busy which made for a nice, quiet end of the weekend. Food was very good and the prices are very reasonable. Service was extremely good, thank you Jessica, and the restaurant was very clean. We no longer live in Austin but try to eat here on most of our return trips.

The food here was very good and delivered hot. That's worth a lot in our opinion. The fried pickles were amazing. Best we've ever had. The shrimp and grits were so flavorful. One of us dislikes grits, but could not stop eating them. They were smokey and creamy with just a small bite of jalepeno. The herb roasted potatoes were tender wedges on the inside and crispy skins on the outside. What didn't work? Spinach and artichoke dip was watery and we detected not a single piece of the promised artichoke heart. If they are in there, but diced into teeny pieces, stop doing that. Artichoke lovers want that bite of heart. What else didn't work? Service. Started out strong with multiple runners delivering our food piping hot. Then it was up to our server, who was pretty much missing. We waited 15 minutes after finishing for the server to even come by and ask if we were done. Hence, the loss of a star. Would we return? Heck yes! And we would hope for a better server.

We visited early in the day 4:30 on 5/7/22 to avoid the Mother's Day rush the next day. I had the etouffee and it was very good, little spicy, but good. My husband had the paella. The moment it came I said that is Mexican style rice! no saffron and the worst he said, super spicy. A paella? We like the place, the service was great, and the cornbread was not ready, LOL. We waited a little longer for the bread, but it is worth it.

Blackened catfish was wonderful. Service perfect. Coming back for wife birthday. Want to try their calamari next.

Great service team of 3...fresh fish special with large portionks. Chk out the monthly wine dinners. Good Happy Hour and entertainment in the bar. Server split shared salad before serving, bartender delivered drinks to table and changed to a tall Glas with request. Very attentive crew.

We attended a family celebration at Freda's with a catered buffet in one of the rear rooms - over 55 people attended. Wait staff was very attentive. Starters included chips and the best spinach / artichoke dip - hot, creamy and fantastic, plus delicious Bruschetta topped with pesto, peperonata, cotija cheese & tomato. The main entree included a nice tossed salad with a tangy vinegrette, shrimp pasta, sauteed fish with a light cream sauce, grilled chicken and sauteed green beans that were crisp and tender. A lovely meal to say the least. Very enjoyable for everyone.

Great menu with focus on fish. The grilled Chilean Sea Bass is always an excellent choice. The chilled seafood salad is a favorite choice for my wife/ Have not tried any of the beef choices on the menu as always get seafood. The simply grilled fish has never disappointed (nor has the sea bass).

Our first visit to Freda's and it was fantastic, start to finish! Stopped by early afternoon on a Sunday. The pre-meal cocktails were deelish, a bloody mary and an "x-fusion" margarita. For the un-initiated like me, "X-fusion" is a French vodka liquor infused with blood orange, mango and passion fruit. Outstanding addition to a margarita! I'm the seafood lover in the family, but I opted for the filet mignon (medium rare, cooked perfectly!), topped with crab meat oscar... the best of both worlds! My wife had the eggs benedict topped with lobster meat, which was divine. Service was great, attentive but not obtrusive. Water glasses always full, dirty dishes removed promptly. The manager on duty was very attentive to what was happening everywhere in the restaurant, and stopped by to ask us how everything was. A wonderful time, great service and food, and an oh so comfortable atmosphere. A 5 star winner! We'll be back ...

For a special occasion, we dined at Freda’s for the first time. Overall, it was a very nice dinner experience. The restaurant is very tastefully decorated with an elegant feel. Dylan, our server was prompt and courteous without being obtrusive. He was assisted by a very nice female trainee server whom we unfortunately didn’t record her name. They brought us a very tasty large cornbread muffin with honey butter for a starter. We order crab stuffed mushrooms and cups of shrimp lobster bisque for appetizers. The mushrooms, surprisingly appeared to be fried. That detracted somewhat from their flavor. I greatly enjoyed the bisque, but my wife found something in the flavor off-putting. So more bisque for me. She ordered the grilled shrimp with mushroom risotto. Both the large shrimp and risotto were delicious. I ordered the seared sea scallops with asparagus side. Equally delicious. After dinner, Freda herself came by, asking how we enjoyed our dinner. That was a very nice touch. We will return for sure.

The restaurant was down the road from our hotel, it was this or the Olive Garden, we decided to take a chance based on the reviews. We arrived before the dinner crowd on a Friday. We ordered from the lunch menu but was offered the dinner menu. The food was fantastic, the service was great. We loved it.

I had the grilled red snapper (simple snapper), and my wife had the blackened red snapper with crawfish etouffee. We both added a side salad with the house dressing, which was excellent. Nice atmosphere, also. Maybe not quite up to par with seafood on the gulf coast at places like Galveston, but certainly fine for Central Texas. We enjoyed it, and we both earned the "clean plate" award. Two thumbs up!

This place NEVER disappoints!!! We have been patrons there for many years now, so our reference points are over many trips and many years. This evening was again, very pleasurable, with excellent food, service & ambiance and a menu that will please most every palate. The pricing is always fair. If you are seeking a "special" evening, you will not be disappointed as Freda's Seafood Grill.

We have splurged on the $26 brunch in the past and have really enjoyed it but that waz not the case today. We waited over 10 minutes for wait staff to approach our table (it was not busy). The crab were small, hard to extract meat, and the meat was yellowish. Didn't taste good. Primerib was cold. They buffet was not maintained and restocked when food ran out. Mac n cheese was cold and dried out. The salad was great, and i was also enjoying the smoked salmon, served and slices of seasoned baguette with a sause and capers, but they ran out and didn't refill. The management need to pay better attention to the buffet and the quality of what is being served. You expect more when you pay that much. Now the $5 mimosa was great and very generous. Not sure we will be back for brunch if it is going to be crap shoot of whether you get good food or not

Went there for lunch. Place is nice and clean. Was seated immediately. Decor was nice and the place has lots of seating. Nice bar and patio. Started off with Spinach Artichoke Dip; Mozzarella cheese artichoke hearts, tortilla chips. The chips came out on a hot plate. Mad the tortilla chips nice and warm to eat. Dip was very good. Ordered Shrimp Scampi Pasta; Shrimp, asparagus, tomato, mushrooms, lemon butter sauce. Very tasteful, great favor. Also comes with a house salad. Prices are okay. Well return. Saw other dishes on the menu that I want to try. Service was excellent.

Dropped in for dinner on a busy Friday evening. With no reservation, the staff asked if we'd like to sit in the lounge at a cocktail table. We made a good choice and got to listen to a wonderful pianist! Our waitress was lovely. The food was excellent (I had a lobster roll...yummy). The atmosphere was perfect and I hope we have a reason to return to Austin some day soon.

Went on Tuesday evening. Early, about 5:30. Plenty of room. Close to our hotel influenced our choice. Service quick and cordial. Three in our party. Food came in large portions. Sue had chicken in a salad, Terry had fish. That was just fine. I had pasta with a Louisiana label. To my regret, bI ate about half of it. I don’t know how good it was as the hot stuff ingredient overpowered my taste buds. I gues some people like extreme heat in their food. Not me.

We choose this restaurant due to the reviews on TripAdvisor. We were staying in DT Austin. UBER was $50 each way. Not a 5 star restaurant with booths and neon beer signs. The staff was very nice but the food was mediocre. Nothing special. My husband described it perfectly as...Red Lobster food at Eddie V's prices.

My friend and I had just driven in to the hotel and noticed this place next door. TA said it was good so we went. The reviews are true, great good awesome service reasonable prices. I had the oysters as an appetizer, then scallops, they were cooked perfectly, not over done. My friend's cioppino was delicious. Voodoo greens are tasty as an added side. A nice bottle of viognier complemented the meal. Danielle was very friendly, helpful suggestions when asked but not over bearing. A nice evening. Steaks are also a specialty but the fish was outstanding. Price points for all wallets.

This was walking distance from the Hampton inn an suites with a nice atmosphere and good food and service.

Excellent local fish restaurant. I was there on a Friday night and it was packed at 5 o’clock. Little tingling on the piano, added atmosphere to the location. I had pecan crusted trout which was excellent. I would come here again when I’m in the area.

Four ladies enjoyed a delightful luncheon. We had the grilled salmon with spinach, the trout with shrimp and the chopped chicken salad. All dishes were generous portions and were delicious. Two diners asked for substitutions and those were cheerfully accommodated. The large warm cornbread muffins were welcomed with soft butter. We shall return!

In town on business and my colleague and I decided on an early dinner. Freda's was not too far from our project and appeared to be among the nicer restaurants in the area. We arrived during happy hour and had a couple of drinks in the bar area and decided to stay in that area for dinner. The food and drinks were appropriately priced and the food was very good and the server did a great job...except when we were trying to cash out. Apparently, the rest of the place started to fill up with normal dinner patrons and the bar area seemed to empty at the end of the happy hour period. I think our server just got caught up in the regular dining area so we were somewhat out of site and out of mind. All in all, it was only a 10 minute period and not the end of the world. Its just that when your food and drinks are gone and you don't want anymore, you just want to get going and 10 minutes can seem like an eternity when you're waiting for something. I'd have given it a 5, but dropped it to a 4 because of the wait at the end. Regardless, if you're looking for a nicer place for drinks and dinner, Freda's delivers.

We had a great holiday luncheon at Freda's. I was looking for a place to host our lunch and remembered having good luck here several years ago with a similar event. My team was excited when they found out we were coming back to Freda's. Freda worked with me to craft a luncheon that fit my budget and our team's tastes. Our meal started with a Freda's salad, which was delicious and light. One person in my team said she would love to bottle the homemade dressing they added to the salads and take it home. For the main course, I had the crab stuffed salmon with roast potatoes and a veggie. The crab stuffing blended perfectly with the salmon, which was slightly crispy on the outside and done perfectly. There were a few capers added as well, which enhanced the overall taste. Others in our group had a steak - I believe it was a strip steak and was huge. Even with the large group, they honored requests from a few of our team members to have their steaks cooked differently from the rest. Still others had chicken or a pasta dish. I knew the meal was a winner with our team when I saw multiple people taking pictures of their main course before digging in! Mark and the rest of the servers kept our glasses full and tables cleared of dirty plates while being careful not to rush people who were still finishing. Our meal was topped off with some white chocolate bread pudding. I'm not a huge fan of most bread pudding but this was the best I ever had. Freda made a personal visit to our private dining room to ensure all was well, and we had Christmas music playing in the background to enhance the atmosphere. I had people coming into my office all afternoon excited about the meal and how they planned to visit again for brunch or dinner. Thanks to Freda, Mark and the team for making this a memorable holiday luncheon for our group of 23 hungry souls! We all left with happy tummies! It is too bad we had to return to work afterwards!

Last year Mother's Day we went to their Mother's Day brunch, everything from the drinks to the crab legs. The pancakes were great, the eggs, the shrimp (2 different ways) and desserts were all phenomenal! We had to book a month ahead of time. But it was worth it. 2018 we went again for Mother's Day Brunch and I have to say everything declined in quality and flavor. The crab legs barely had any meat inside of them, crack after crack of the shells brought barely enough meat to fill a small saucer. The pancakes were getting dry and the shrimp was not as tasty. I hope that it was the result of a new chef or something and nothing like they stopped really caring about producing quality and tasty dishes rather than filling their tables.

A friend suggested Freda's for lunch today, and I had to admit that I had never heard of it. I was not very hungry, so I ordered a bowl of seafood gumbo. My wife had the Salmon Florentine, friends had Blackened catfish and Pecan Tilapia. As an appetizer, we split an order of Fried Pickles. Drinks arrived very quickly as did the fried pickles which were outstanding! The wait for food was short, and the food was served hot, tasty, and plentiful. The gumbo was filled with crawfish, shrimp, and Andouille with just the right amount of rice to thicken, but not overpower the seafood. I did need to add house hotsauce as I like gumbo particularly hot. The salmon was very tasty, fresh as were the catfish and talapia. Large portions reasonably priced. The service could not have been better! Carlos was fantastic! As this was our first visit to Freda's, Carlos brought us a complimentary White Chocolate Bread Pudding to split. It is their signature dessert, and it is heavenly! Food, service, value for money- all exceptional!

I’ve known about this restaurant for ages and for some reason never went. So glad I finally got around to it because it was an all around great experience from start to finish. Service? Impeccable. Food? Delicious. Environment? Calm. I will definitely be back.

The food and service was excellent with an impressive diversity of dishes. The seating was very comfortable. In short, we had a very enjoyable and rewarding dining experience.

My wife and I are frequent visitors to this locally-owned establishment. We love Freda and all she means to this neck of Northwest Austin. She carved out a place for great food in a fairly elegant atmosphere. She has tweaked the menu in recent years, so things just get better all the time. She even added a burger for the kids. This visit we had the shrimp quesadilla and lobster bisque, followed by a couple of steaks. We're going back for her always popular monthly Wine Dinner this Thursday. I'm having the Ahi Tuna and the wife is having her favorite, Ribeye steak. See you there?

I have eaten crab at many seafood restaurants but this was the first time that I was given butter with a heating unit underneath. No more hardened butter, just the gooey mess we all love for dipping our moist pieces of crab meat. The baked potato was cooked to perfection and I had asked for the butter and sour cream to be served separately and it was! I love butter, just not as much as usually given on a spud.

Went to Mother's Day brunch at Freda's as the website promised a wide variety of offerings. We made reservations on Opentable which was convenient. Once we got there though, we were shoved into a corner where the entire table had to get up if someone wanted to visit the buffet. The buffet area was super crowded with bottlenecks to get in and out of the main area. The variety was as promised but the quality of the food was poor. Most of the dishes were lukewarm at best. The prime rib was actually cold and was stringy. The Paella had bits of shells in it for an unexpected crunch and rest of the entrees were "meh." At $31 a plate this was way overpriced for what was offered, especially when they were charging over $3 a cup for lukewarm coffee and tea. The 18% automatic service charge was also a bit much given the poor experience. Overall, this was a big disappointment and a reminder of why we haven't been to Freda's in a number of years. Wouldn't recommend.

This was our 1st time and we were very pleased! My husband couldn't find enough words to describe how much he enjoyed it! After reading several reviews we ordered the bisque and it was very good. My husband got the sea bass and I had the scallops. His had a mushroom risotto that I wished I had subbed out for my potatoes because it was delicious! We also really liked the atmosphere. It was intimate but not snobby. Our waitress was wonderful and the live piano was perfect.

Freda's is so consistent, and you know you can count on a wonderful dining experience. Now, of course, is a time of uncertainties since city of Austin wants to purchase the hotel directly behind this long-time N.W. Austin restaurant, so I've been so glad to see that Freda's is carrying on their fine dining , and great food, along with a welcoming , relaxing atmosphere. Everyone I know, who has eaten here, really compliments Freda's. It's hard to find a seafood- focused restaurant in N. Austin... thank you Freda's . We always come back. It's consistent, and fine service, too.

This place is no longer a great place to eat and drink. High-priced drinks (16.95 Grey goose martini filled half full) and small portion meals with high price.

Several of us went, portions were large but food was terrible! Greasey (overly fried) or slathered in butter. Clearly frozen fish, shrimp and fries. Vegetables were the same...frozen with butter. And, expensive! Very disappointing!

I frequent this restaurant when at Austin and prefer to sit at bar area. Its great when piano player is present, which I believe is on Friday evenings. Food is prepared well and wines are good.

Our tenth time there and they are getting so cheap with their customers. Last time I went the hostess had such bad breath that I almost lost my appetite. It's been months and I went back for a girls night. Not accommodating at all!! They would not let us put two of the little tables together to seat 6 in the bar together! Then we wind up going to the regular restaurant and they bring a 3" diameter cornbread (one piece) for the whole table of 6! They said they can only bring one out at a time. So she forgets to bring another one out until several of us ask again. Cheap when we are ordering $30 entrees and appetizers and wine!! Then they automatically put 18% gratuity on the bill w/o telling us. Never had this done for a small table of 6. Freda's you've lost my business forever! Shame.

This past Friday my wife had her retirement happy hour at Freda's. We've eaten there before and it's always been good. For a Friday evening/night there were hardly any customers. They were out of Tito's vodka and many of the normal beers, ie: Shine Bock, Michelob Light, and a few others. We had a good server which saved the evening. He told is that they've been going to the store to buy some of these items. Normally you get them from a distributor. Signs of money problems for a business to me. We ordered a lot of appetizers that were were good. The gumbo was some of the worst I've eaten in my life and I've eaten a lot of gumbo. I know Cajun food! I cook it, eat it, and play Cajun music. The gumbo tasted like beef gravy, not an hour long good cooked roux. It had had plenty of andouille, shrimp, and crab. I picked this out and left the liquid. I don't know what the deal is with Freda's now.

The seafood in this restaurant is outstandingly good, tasty, and beautifully served. Service is very professional and friendly. In a few words, or excedes exoectatiins. A must if you happen to be in Austin.

I just finished my dinner. It was excellent and accompanied by friendly service. The crab stuffed mushrooms are divine and and the grilled shrimp were cooked to perfection but what style the show was the bread pudding. If you come here just for that you will not be disappointed. I'll be sure to come back here next time I visit Austin.

I’d been here once previously, so when my fiancée commented there wasn’t a place for good seafood in the area, I recommended we go here. Thanks to an online reservation secured through OpenTable, we knew we’d have a seat on a potentially busy night. There were a few graduation dinners happening, but our server made sure we weren’t lost in the shuffle during this. We could hear the live piano player from the bar area, which added to an already good ambience of the venue. My fiancée ordered the Chilean sea bass, which was one of her favorite dishes. I was able to get the special of the night, rock lobster tail, which was something I’d missed due to lack of quality sea food places in the Austin area. This was a great place for a romantic dinner for two, and was worth every penny we paid for the meals. One of the nice things was the interior was designed to make use of the space, so it’s not every table in one noisy room.

Started with a vodka martini that was as good as I've had. Shared three dozen oysters on the half shell between eight of us and four didn't eat oysters! Needless to say they were fresh and good. I had the fried seafood combo that was too much to finish. The catfish was fried perfectly with a good crunch on the outside and tender, sweet, moist fish on the inside. The shrimp diablo was a bit overcooked so it was a bit chewy but still had lots of flavor. The stuffed crab shells were moist and sweet with a good taste of crab. My wife had the scallops and said they were moist, sweet, and tender. She liked them so much she wouldn't share! Our second time in Cedar Creek and our second time in Freda's. We'll be back.

Went to Freda’s for Happy Hour with friends, and was amazed at the selection of appetizers and prices. They have a full bar as well as a nice variety of wines. They also had a piano player, but the speakers where we were sitting on the patio were so bad you certainly could it enjoy the music.

Loved the choices and atmosphere of Freda's. Enjoy sitting at the bar. The regular menu is a bit pricy but there are lots of appetizers and other things that can be ordered.

One reviewer hit it on the head "Nothing special---Red Lobster food at Eddie V's prices." My wife and I no longer feel safe going downtown to dine, and were looking for a good seafood restaurant that was not downtown. We decided to try Freda's, even after seeing such mixed reviews. I was somewhat disappointed with the Manhattan I was served. If you use quality ingredients, and follow an age old recipe, how can you screw it up? Well they succeeded. We ordered Calamari as an appetizer, which came out a bit greasy, with bland sauces. The wedge salad was excellent, with a quality Blue cheese and a strip of perfectly fried premium bacon (Not bacon bits). The entrées we ordered were the Gulf Coast Paella and the Orange Roughy, which was one of the specials that night. Both of theses were very good but not excellent. At $26 and $39, I expected a lot better dishes. We ordered the White Chocolate Bread Pudding, which is Freda's signature dessert with a caramel sauce, drizzled with white chocolate sauce along with a scoop of vanilla ice cream; and the Crème Brulee (my favorite desert), which was supposed to be a Creamy custard, with a torched caramel crust. While the Bread pudding lived up to it's Signature desert designation, the Crème Brulee was a disappointment. The custard was Not creamy, was not made with real vanilla beans, served way too cold, and was not torched just prior to serving. Service was adequate, but not up to par. For a privately owned "family" business, we were expecting a lot more. Our search for a fine seafood restaurant will continue. We have been in the area for ten years now, and have made the observation, that people here just love to pay premium prices for Mediocre food.

Solid food. Thought there might be live music here tonight, but maybe not, since it's a holiday weekend? Solid food choice. I'd be fine with coming back and checking out the rest of the menu.

When I’m in Austin in the 620 area, I like going to Fredas Seafood. Food is very good and service is always great. I would suggest any of their seafood dishes.

Wife said this was the best seafood she has had in the Austin area since we have been here (20 years next month) we came from Houston that has great seafood. We started with seafood gumbos- the best roux was just wonderful. We have only had better in Louisiana. I had crab stuffed salmon with a stuffed summer squash this was great, wife had pine nut crusted trout that was great also. Bryan our server was very helpful and informative- Jason the manager wanted to make sure we had a great experience.

We love going to Freda’s for lunch. The blackened catfish is excellent. We’ve also enjoyed the trout with shrimp, paella.... all delicious. We tried the raw oysters and crab stuffed mushrooms today, and they were both very good. Do not however get the gumbo. I’m not sure if the kitchen made a mistake but it was inedible! It was a concentrated brown gravy with two pieces of okra, two shrimp and maybe 1 tablespoon of rice. It didn’t resemble any gumbo we’ve ever had. But, the bread pudding was awesome as usual! We’ll go back but will never order their gumbo!!

Have eaten many here times and it is always good. But yesterday 9-6, the luncheon was incredible. The trout was sautéed with a delicious crunchy topping while the accompanying remoulade sauce was perfect. The salad was fresh, tasty, well dressed and roped with fresh Parmesan. Carlos our waiter was delightful. We will be back often.

We tried Freda's Seafood Grille tonight based on a recommendation from a friend. We are so glad we did. My wife went with the 8oz Filet and I had the Simple Grilled Chilean Sea Bass. Both were superb, however my wife's steak was the real winner here. Initially it was slightly under-cooked so she sent it back (very gracefully handled by our waitress and the kitchen staff). When it came back about 3 minutes later it was perfect. Honestly, ususally when you send a steak back it comes out rubbery...but this was by far the tenderest steak either of us has had in a long long time. Bravo. Who would have thought you could get such a great steak in a primarily seafood restaurant? The owner (Freda!) came by to ask how everything was and in our conversation she told us they hand cut their steaks and age them on-site for 21 days. Outstanding. My Chilean Sea Bass was very good, with the grill flavor coming thru. Cooked perfectly, accompanied by rice and mixed veggies. For dessert we split their signature white chocolate bread pudding. To die for. Unusual in that it was almost custard like without the typical chunks of bread, but oh so good. A really good meal, friendly, sincere service and owner visit to boot. Can't wait to return with some friends.

We had an overnight visit to Austin, so we decided to walk next door to our hotel for dinner; that was a good decision. Freda’s offered exactly what we wanted: good food, good atmosphere, good service, and nearby. We had to ask for a wine list, but it had lots of options. In asking about certain wines, we got opinions from more than one waiter. They ended up recommending another one that was cheaper. Who does that? And it was perfect. We had the Seafood Stack and the Lobster & Shrimp Bisque as appetizers. The Seafood Stack was small, but was delicious with chips and their salsa that gave the right amount of kick. The bisque was creamy, perfectly seasoned, and a generous serving. For entrées, we had the Shrimp Diablo as an entrée (which included grilled asparagus and roasted potatoes) and the Bourbon Street Pasta. If you want flavor, these were great choices with just the right amount of seasoning to make them interesting. With the entrées small bread muffins were offered. Very good, too! Unfortunately we were full after all this. But in looking at the menu, the desserts looked pretty good, too. Their outdoor patio area looked inviting, so that might be a good option next time. Wonderful meal. Nice walk back to our hotel. And we didn’t even miss eating Mexican food in Austin! A first!

Freda's is invariably a great experience the few times we've been there. Service is always prompt, friendly and very helpful. Recommendations are spot-on. Food is always fresh - whether it be oysters, calamari, crab or various fish options. The family owned vibe in terms of desire to make each customer happy is apparent and each meal is satisfying. Highly recommend a visit!

Great dinner. Service good. Recommend seafood stack appetizer. Atmosphere nice but not fancy. Got king crab legs. They were good but maybe not a big enough option for the price. Seafood platter was excellent. Asparagus was grilled with a balsamic reduction. Very tasty. Crime brûlée for dessert was a large serving and very good. Will definitely be back!

After the passage of a number of months I returned to Freda's Seafood Grille for dinner with a friend I have known for more than a half century. My first experience was so good at Freda's I wanted to return. The service was friendly and the food was delicious. Regarding the food, the salad was fresh and the shrimp and crawfish etouffe was out-of-this-world. In addition to great food, this restaurant has a better than average selection of wines. When in the area, I will return to this great restaurant.

The menu selections were great. The food was great. The service was pretty good. The food was perfectly spiced, and flavorful. The pricing is on par with most other restaurants. I’m not sure what took us so long to find it or get here but we will definitely be back. (many times)

We have been wanting to try this place since we love seafood and it close to us. However, our experience will probably keep us from going back. It is not bad but it's not that good either. My blackened red fish was decent but the ettouffe lacked any real flavor and it was cold which took away from the fish. My wife's red fish Oscar special sounded great but did not wow her either. The wine choices by the glass are minimal and not of any great quality despite the price. Our server was very enthusiastic and did a good job. Overall, for the price of the meal we were not impressed.

We're lucky to have such a great restaurant here in NW Austin. The meals and wines are always excellent. All of the steaks I've had here are tender, and they don't over salt them like most of the steakhouses around here do.

I work at the hotel next door and had stopped in for a moment with my fiancé on our anniversary. We had never been to Freda's and decided that since it was right next door we would walk over and try it out. Looking at the prices the appetizers were a bit pricey (10 a piece) but it was a special date so we stayed. We ended up getting the seafood stack appetizer and I got the cucumber martini while he got a beer. Then I had a very hard time choosing lunch because everything sounded so good. I ended up getting the pecan tilapia which came with rice and a veggie. I thought I had died and gone to heaven until I tried his bourbon whiskey noodles which were just as amazing. Everything from the app to the drinks to our lunches were all $10 a pop. I don't know if it would be more if it were dinner time. All in all though it came out to $53 before the tip which I thought was pretty good for a date which usually runs us around $70. It was a great spur of the moment decision and we will be going back soon.

Went on the advice of a co-worker and was not disappointed! Nice little restaurant with outstanding food at a really good price. I wish I could review more items, but I ordered the same dish both times while in Austin last week. The Bourbon St Pasta is AMAZING! This pasta has shrimp, crawfish, Andouille sausage, tomatoes, and mushrooms all served in a Cajun creme sauce. I held the tomatoes on mine. They also have the best little bite sized corn bread to go with it. We also ordered the spinach artichoke dip and it was delicious as well. My co-worker had the sea bass and said it was delicious as well. This will be a must eat spot from now on. Our wait service was friendly and excellent and the location is very nice.

We gathered at Freda's for Mother's Day celebration. They seated us at our designated time. Wait staff was friendly and proficient. We all ate different items but I had the pecan crusted tiliapia . The side of asparagus was so delicious and the servings were more than enough. I will return.

Freda’s is reliably very good. All dimensions are very good: food, menu, venue, service and accessibility. The owner always seems to be there to assure all is going well.

Ordered a New York strip with shrimp and a baked potato. The plate looked great until I cut into the steak, which I ordered med-rare, but it was medium. Sent it back, 6 min later another steak arrived at the table and again it was med. The waitress, who was extremely good, apologized profusely and said she had talked to the cook but he just argued with her. The manager came over and implied that the steak was cooked properly, the steak had just hint of pink in one spot, just a little smaller than a dime, not dark pink all the way thru the center. My wife’s seafood was excellent so I guess the lesson here is don’t order a steak at a seafood joint. They did take the steak off the bill. Won’t be going back anytime soon!!

The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I had the beef tender meal and the steak was very good. will be back if I an in the area.

There aren’t many places in Austin where you can get “all you can eat Crablegs”. Freda’s is one. On Sundays you can enjoy the buffet which includes fried fish and shrimp, baked seafood dishes and the sides as well as a full breakfast buffet. I come for the Crablegs. They’ve changed how they are served, though. They are now chilled but you can have your first serving steamed. The Crablegs are medium sized and are a good quality. I’ve had better, but Fredas fulfills my Crableg fix. We’ve been coming for years and will continue to.

Three of us ate recently at Freda's Seafood. My Fried Softshell Crabs were amazing! There were four of them on the platter, nice and crispy and fresh, with 2 sides... $28. I've never rec'd more than 1-2 for that price at other places. Another person had the Salmon Stuffed with Crabmeat. It too was a generous portion, with 2 sides... $ 23. The third person had the Crabcake appetizer and a Caesar salad, both were very nice portions. Wait staff was polite and accommodating, music was a nice volume...we've been here on other occasions, and we are usually very pleased. Nice wine list, too!

Wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner of Blackened Red Snapper (me) and Salmon stuffed with Crab (her). My snapper had a nice shrimp etouffe sauce and just the right amount of Cajun spice, not too spicy, but great taste. Wife had similar comments about her Salmon. We enjoyed a nice white wine along with our dinner. Fred's has a very nice wine list also, not too extensive, but good selections available. We did not have dessert due to the substantial meal, which included seasonal vegetables and bread. The service was always timely, but not intrusive. Very enjoyable visit.

Have had late afternoon dinner here many times, always outstanding service, The atmosphere is awesome, the food will not disappoint, so perfect in every way. My friend and I always ask to be seated in Angies section, she is the best server. We usually go on Sunday around 3, hoping that she will be available to wait on us. We had a great 2 hour Sunday early afternoon dinner, and it is because of the outstanding service that we received from Angi, She makes us always feel welcome, can’t say enough about how wonderful everything was today

I was supposed to have dinner at Freda's with an old friend but at the last minute he had to cancel due to an emergency. Rather than waste a good dining experience, I went ahead and dined at this excellent restaurant. My waiter - Carlos - was attentive and friendly and the food was outstanding. The Freda's House Salad was fresh and the Blue Cheese dressing was outstanding. Following the salad I had the Shrimp and Crawfish Etouffe, which was spicy and delicious. Whenever I visit this part of Austin I make it a point to dine at Freda's.

Great food, excellent service, reasonably priced. We wanted a restaurant close to our hotel so that we wouldn't have to venture far. We could have gone to that chain restaurant that serves unlimited breaksticks and salad Italian cuisine, but chose this family owned and run seafood house. It was a great decision! The food and service were great and it was reasonably priced. I have some food issues, and the waiter was great in helping me figure out the best choice for me. We would definitely come back on a future trip.

Went with friends on our first night in Austin. I have to say it was the best burger I've had in a long time!!! Fries were the super skinny fries too which I love. Our server (forgot her name) was lovely!!

I'm surprised that I had never heard about this restaurant. Apparently it has been around for a long time. The crab stuffed Salmon was delicious. This had to be the fastest I've ever received my meal and appetizer in a fine restaurant. The servers were very friendly. When I asked my wife if she wanted to share meals, our ritual for tasting different menu items in a single visit, she said "nope". So her meal must have been as good as my salmon. :) I was very impressed with this restaurant.

This was our first time. Normally I avoid buffets, but the food was really good. Pace yourself since there's so much to try and not everything was full (crab legs didn't get replenished until we were leaving). We especially loved the tilapia, pasta, smoked salmon crostini, & bread pudding. The omelette station could've chopped their onions a little finer for my taste, but the service was great. The paella was bland and the shrimp & grits was way too heavy on bacon grease for my taste. They also had salad and fresh fruit. The bread pudding was outstanding! The decor is a rather dated, but the food and service made up for it. We'll go back, but at $70 before tip for 2 brunches w/2 mimosas this will be a special occasion splurge for us.

My daughter and son-in-law took me and my wife to Freda's for Mother's Day Brunch and Freda's did not disappoint - the buffet meal was delicious. Pancakes, sausage patties, bacon, potatoes, hash browns, crab, catfish, rice, vegetables, salad, scrambled eggs, fruit (water melon, pineapple, and cantaloupe), bread pudding, lemon cake, and chocolate cake were on the line. An omelet and prime rib station were also included. I probably left some items out, but everything was delicious. Staff was very attentive and our primary server, Ruth, did an outstanding job. The place was clean and the window booth we sat at was comfortable. Enjoyed it!

Another great meal at Freda's seafood Grille!… Stopped by for a late lunch on a Sunday recently. The cocktails were great, including the X-Fusion martini. The oyster appetizers were wonderful, both on the half shell and fried. We selected the Emmolo sauvignon blanc, which was incredible, especially at the price offered. Our entrees included two steaks (yes, at a seafood place), which were cooked perfectly, and top with crab meat Oscar. Deelish! The trout was also very good, expertly seasoned and cooked to "fork flake" tender. We also tried the sautéed mushrooms as a side dish, and they were excellent! Key lime pie finished off the meal, nice crust and tangy key lime, fresh whipped cream ... to die for! If you haven't ever been to Freda's, or it's been awhile, stop by, an amazing meal awaits!

My wife and I went there for date night for dinner. We enjoyed the food immensely we definitely will go back again. Piano bar was a nice touch.

My husband and I eat lunch out daily and this is one of our favorites. The food is far above average and service is super. They are primarily a seafood restaurant but have a wide range of it. Actually, I ate there today with two friends who haden't eaten there before and both said they were certaily going to return. Prices are great, especially for lunch.

Moscow Mules ✅ Salmon Salad 🥗 ✅ Calamari ✅ Service ✅ Blackened Catfish ✅ Great service still want to go for brunch on Sunday suppose to be epic I’ve heard

Great atmosphere!! Were there to celebrate a family birthday. Great service! Good food. Nice portions.

On a Monday night we were in the mood for something different in seafood and Freda's hit the spot. I had the Bourbon St Pasta and found it very tasty with just a little kick. One of my friends had the Caesar salad with shrimp and thought it was delicious especially the shrimp. Another had the Jambalaya and while the kitchen had run down on mussels the waiter checked to see if it would be okay to substitute crayfish. It was and my friend really enjoyed his dish. My spouse agreed that her meal was excellent. The waiter was quite helpful and reasonably attentive. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends. There was plenty of parking as we were there on a Monday night.

Only because our waiter was nice. We waited 50 minutes for food and of course the steaks were so overdone by that time that they were inedible. I was offered a desert comp. really?? There were 2 other people in the restaurant, should have been a warning. Horrible.

I have been to Freda’s quite a few times. They have a friendly bar and wait staff. Do not come here expecting fine seafood dining. Expect something like Red Lobster, but maybe not as good. I don’t understand the attraction of Freda’s, but again, the wait staff and service is excellent, however the food is third class at best.

To often I find seafood restaurants either over priced or serving poor quality food. Freda's is neither over priced nor does it serve poor quality food. The table service was great. A plus is that the noise level is LOW which is a pleasant surprise when compared to a great meany restaurants today. I think you will like Freda's and should give it a try.

Freda's was recommended by a Hampton Inn reception person and what a fun evening. We got there about 5:30pm and sat in the bar. The bar area filled up quickly and by 6:00pm the piano player was set up and entertaining the crowd. Carina worked our table and she was spot on with drinks and our food order. The Happy Hour drinks included a Shiner Bock draft that I had not had for a long time - very refreshing. We shared the seafood stack appetizer, we each had a small salad, and then shared the Shrimp and Crawfish étouffée. WOW!!! Everything was fabulous. Carina spent time talking with us as she lived in Colorado Springs at one time and so did we - very friendly and very attentive to our first time experience. Very fun spot as we really enjoyed the bar food, the drinks, and the live piano music. No wonder Freda's is rated very high among 3051 restaurants in Austin. It's right next to The Hampton Inn - walking distance.

We return to Freda’s for a multiple couples dining experience every few months. They off great menu, venue, food and service.

I have always said...if they care enough to make a good salad...the rest of the meal will be great. An it was! Great salad with house balsamic dressing. Fresh and tasty cornbread. Pecan encrusted Trout with mushroom risotto....fantastic...down to the last bite. Great Sea Bass and Red Snapper. Finished off with a very tasty bread pudding..oh my. I will return!

My husband and I read the reviews and saw there was a mixture. Some raved and some said it was ok. Well, the only thing we could do was try it for ourselves. I side with the reviews on the food being mediocre. It was just, alright! I agree that the price was to high for the quality. We went mid afternoon about 130pm on. Saturday and they were still serving brunch. I am allergic to shellfish so I opted for chicken and waffles. My husband had crawfish Mac and cheese and a lobster roll. My husband LOVES seafood and stated his food was bland and kinda flavorless. Honestly don't think we will ever go again. He thinks Pappadeauxs was better. Everyone has different tastes and we always atleast try something once but we won't go again.

The portions were generous, and the food was tasty. I tried the gumbo and etouffee. My wife enjoyed her salmon and the cornbread muffins that were brought to the table. My only complaint was that the service was very good and some areas and needed improvement in others. Our waiter was friendly and we did receive a visit from the owner asking how the food turned out, however, food was brought to the table and we had to flag down a manager to ask for silverware. Our waiter seem to disappear for long stretches of time.

The meals I have had at Freda's before have been -only- acceptable. However, I just had a business lunch there and the food was not fit for human consumption. Our waiter suggested the ahi tuna at $11 which we thought was a steal but the sight of it was nearly repulsive. I am just glad that I did not suggest this place for our meeting. My counterpart was embarrassed. In my book, quality is #1 and preparation follows. You failed that Freda. Waiter was professional but was also clearly mortified once he learned that we took the opportunity of the manager checking on our table to reject our dishes. In case you wonder, we did have about 3 bites to give the dish the benefit of the doubt. Inedible.

Went there last Friday for a Team business lunch. We had heard good things about Freda's and we were not disappointed. We had the fried pickles and calamari as an appetizer, and we each tried a different lunch entre'. Everything was great. Our office manager said that Freda's will be on the list of go to restaurants for our out of town guests going forward!

I was looking forward to visit Freda's for a long time. I ordered the COAST PAELLA. As a typical dish from Spanish with Saffron quite was my disappointment that instead of Saffron the Chef's uses Sriracha instead. Regrettable it was not indicated in the menu. I asked for no sausage and they told yes, it is possible. First Paella was completely uneatable with the heavy Sriracha sauce, no sausage it is good as I am allergic. After returning the first paella, the second did not have Sriracha but it had sausage, so I waited for the third paella, no sriracha, no sausage but also no Saffron, Rice with all the other ingredients. Completely unexpected a Paella without Saffron flavor. My friend had the trout and Shrimp and it was good. The problem is that the service was extremely slow on a slow Saturday at noon (9/11/2021). The waitress offer me a desert for free but then the head of waitress comes and shows me the bill for the desert. So weird. Very sad with my experience in this restaurant as so many people provide excellent reviews verbally and in writing.

Took my wife here for her birthday. Food was wonderful. She had paella and I had stuffed salmon. Both extremely good and they brought her a creme brûlée for dessert. Only discord came with bill as I noticed that they had charged us $4 for the rocks in our cocktails. Yes they were the big round ice cubes but I have never been charged for ice before. This should probably be abandoned since it detracted from an exceptional meal.

Hibby and I came here to get something to eat while our room at the Hampton Inn and Suites next door cooled down. Out waitress was extremely nice and attentive and the food was surprisingly good. We ordered calamari for the appetizer, which was just ok, but the green sauce that came with it made it taste better. I ordered 3 (yes 3!!!) Mango Cosmos and they were delicious!!! We both ordered the Bourbon Street Pasta and was thoroughly impressed. We had no room left for desert but will definitely be back.

Happy hour food menu had good food selection and our sea bass tasted alright. The outside ambiance was comfortable and we could hear the piano player from inside. Unfortunately, we dined on an evening when there was only one waiter for the whole outside. He brought us the wrong dish, but did try to make up for it by taking off one of our drinks. And because he was the only way to everything took a really long time.

We came here for dinner after reading few reviews on TA. We made reservations and were seared promptly upon our arrival. We ordered calamari for appetizers which was very good. For dinner, our party ordered various entrees: Grilled Shrimp Salad Blackened Red Snapper Freda's House Salad & Gumbo Freda's Crab Cake & Lobster/Shrimp Bisque Everything was flavorful and fresh, however, the bisque was lukewarm. The corn bread was fantastically delicious. The service was spotty... our waiter was somewhat abrupt bordering on rude, hence the deduction of one point.

Freda’s Seafood Grill provided another outstanding dinner experience. All four of our starters and entrees were excellent. The venue and service were wonderful.

My son, son-in-law, a friend, and I went there for the Sunday Brunch because my SIL heard it was very good. Honestly, for the pretty steep price of $26 I felt that I had been ripped off. The crab legs were quite small and somewhat pasty inside. This is definitely not high quality seafood. It didn't matter, though, because when I went back to look for something else on the buffet, the crabs were just about gone and it didn't look like more was on the way. The made-to-order omelets were bland. The fried shrimp was all coating like you find in a frozen food box. The others at our table said the prime rib was good, but judging on what effort they were needing to cut it, I suspect it was quite tough. All in all, I feel like the owners migtht have started out giving a good value for the brunch, but it had definitely gone downhill.

After a busy day at the office, we decided to go to Freda's for happy hour. We were not disappointed with the appetizers or our wines. Our server was timely and respectful of our conversation yet totally aware of replenishing our beverages. It was a nice evening with friends and colleagues.

A friend recommended this to us a while back and it has become one of our favorites. The menu has a good variety of seafood, steaks, and burgers, all of which are heavenly. We only recently learned of their Brunch on Sunday, and that is also one of the best in Austin, with Prime Rib, Seafood, along with the standard breakfast items and Desserts

My wife and I tried Freda's for the first time recently. The décor is nice, sort of a poor man's Houston's. Their isn't much light and the view from the room where we were seated was of apartments under construction (motel?). That wasn't their fault, but the food was very unremarkable. I ordered boiled crawfish and I didn't finish them. I guess you have to really like them to put up with the work and tiny reward. The bigger issue was that my wife ordered grilled shrimp. They were small, few , and not much taste. Served with rice and a few straggly carrot and green bean sticks, it was unremarkable at best. The seafood tower appetizer was quite good, but meager and served with handful of so so corn chips. I also have to admit that when I see Tilapia on the menu, it dampens my enthusiasm. I consider Tilapia a trash fish. Bottom line, it is popular with some since it is always busy-- you can do better,

We visited Freda's for a happy hour dinner. They have happy hour from 4-7 weekdays, but on Thursdays the happy hour goes until closing. They have discounted drinks and small plate deals as well. This night they had a pianist playing a grand piano in the bar. We started with brisket sliders and each enjoyed one delicious slider filled with smoky goodness. We also had a chicken quesadilla that came with a nice salsa. We finished up with a serving of crab salad on avocado with thick tortilla chips. The waitstaff was very attentive without hovering and make sure we were happy with everything. We enjoyed our meal and that was enough for us to get our fill.

I was in the area for a conference. A large group (18) of us decided to get dinner together. We reserved a table online and walked over from our hotel. They were extremely accommodating to our group. The food was outstanding. The staff was excellent and Freda came to our table to thank us and check on our experience. This is a locally owned and operated place with the accommodations of a large chain. I would go out of my way to visit again!

It was our first visit to Freda's. Nice atmosphere and dinner choices. It is a distance from where we live but next time were are in the area we would definitely eat here again.

We had a big family lunch at Freda’s and the food was outstanding. We ordered a bunch of appetizers for the table and I really enjoyed the calamari and the crab cake and crab stuffed mushrooms. I picked the ribeye off the dinner menu, which was perfectly cooked and delicious as well. My wife’s lobster roll was excellent as well. Finally the bread pudding was one of the best I’ve ever had. Freda herself stopped by our table and was friendly and personable. Highly recommended!

My wife and I visited Freda’s for the first time together since the COVID shutdown. We sat at the bar and watched a basketball game while enjoying some tasty libations and a delicious hamburger. We also had a nice spinach avocado dip with chips. Freda paid us a visit and made us feel welcome. This was my first time eating a Freda’s hamburger and I really enjoyed it. I have never had a bad meal here. Stephen was our bartender/server and he was wonderful.

Enjoyed an early Friday dinner here with family. Happy hour specials: small plates, wine, etc. very good Gulf oysters. Several good shrimp dishes, both fried and broiled. Excellent calamari. my nephew loved his red fish. Enjoyable piano music but might be too loud for some. Would definitely return

Visited Freda's for my first time! The Mexican Martini was great! The lobster bisque and the shrimp quesadilla were good! Enjoyed it!

This place is great! They have excellent food and wine, a super friendly staff and they also have an awesome happy hour menu.

30$ for an upscale brunch. Reduced price bloody Mary's and Mimosa's. Go hungry and thirsty... so much to try! Chris was our server and he was fantastic!!!

I had lunch today at the bar. It was wondeful! The bar has brand new bar stools with vinyl/leather high backs. They are both attractive, functional and comfortable. The service was prompt and friendly. Yes! I am not a fan of cornbread, but I could not stop eating eat it with my salad. The wine was overpriced at $10 a glass, but it was a large glass and you can get $2 off at HH. The food was exceptional. I had trout and shrimp in a lemon, butter and caper sauce with rice and green beans. Yummy! Going back soon.

We were cravingsome seafood in a meat town when we picked Freda's. We had a range of seafood from grilled snapper to jambalaya which all were excellent. We started the dinner by sharing calamari and (yes you heard it) deepfried pickles. Who knew this was a local specialty! The starters came with various dipping sauces which were very tasty. Overall the meal was very tasty and the decor was pleasant with an open ceiling with beams. The only down side was the waiter who seemed to want to move us along. He brought the mains before clearing the starters, wanted to know whether we wanted desert while midway through the mains and slapped the bill downwhile we were enjoying the wine and our daughter was still working on her main. The manager tried to make it up by offering free desert as we were walking out the door. Still the company was pleasant and the food was too. Iwould give it one more shot next time I am in town.

We sat on the patio and enjoyed margaritas, fried shrimp and chicken quesadillas. The food and drinks were great as well as the service.

We were in town for the second time in eight months visiting our children. I had such a wonderful experience at Freda's last year and asked my wife what did she think? Yes, we both agreed that the last experinec was very good and we returned for another great food and service experience. You just need to visit and I'm sure that you will agree.

I took my friend there for her birthday lunch and the food was very good. I had the bourbon street pasta and she had the coast paella. It was very nice and the waiter Matt was great. I will go there again.

Still a classy spot, special menu...seafood paella and sea bass were ordered after lobster(couldn't find any) and shrimp bisque. Always good bisque. Paella was spicier than listed "mild", but with grilled giant scallops, shrimp, mussels, langoustina and chicken. Tasty and large bowl. Sea Bass was melt in your mouth great, best in years and large piece plus risotto. $28 & $38 entrees. Attentive service, nice holiday dinner!

I have been to fredas a couple times on sunday brunch both times. It is so good i had to review it. The buffet has it all crab shrimp gumbo. Soo much more. Make sure you try fredas.

We had a wonderful lunch. Peter was our server and was very helpful. Making our special birthday lunch very special. We were on vacation to see our daughter who now lives in Austin. I would recommend this as a place to visit when in the area.

The appetizers were delicious (crab cake and crab avocado stack). The salmon entree was good. The shrimp and grits entree.. Hmm I'm still trying to put my foot on it. The grits didn't have much flavor although I could taste the cheese and jalapeño. The bread that was on top of the dish was toasted in oil instead of butter. Very different taste, I'm not used to that. Let's say this dish wasn't a favorite. The white chocolate bread pudding was good and the nuts and berry drink was good. Overall nice vibe. The live music was awesome!!!

So in general we received good service. The wrong entree was brought out initially for one of my friends and they got right on cooking the replacement. I had the chilean sea bass. I'd bet it was previously frozen so knocked off a star for that as well as the price at $30+ shouldn't ever be frozen. Everything else was pretty good. They brought out a creme brulee for my girlfriends birthday that was very nice

Found this restaurant via trip advisor and overall had good ratings. So I figured it would be a nice spot for lunch...wasn't busy when we first walked in. I ordered a seafood pasta and found a long strand of hair deep in my plate. I was so upset I didnt even want another order. My boyfriend ordered king crabs priced at 45 bucks! And was old cold and only four legs with a side of a small baked potato. On top of that I had to ask for a discount off my ticket instead of someone offering. Sorry no pics. I was too disgusted we left in a hurry.

We went at an off-hour, almost 3 pm, and the waiter still offered us the less costly lunch menu. We had the paella, which was full of seafood and was generous enough to take home and share again. It was delicious. At this hour the place was pretty quiet. We liked how it was divided into separate rooms.

This restaurant has been highly recommended on our neighborhood app so we decided to try it out to celebrate our anniversary (and valentine's day in advance). We made reservation specifically mentioning the occasion. Unfortunately, when we arrived we were told that there would be 15-20 minute wait in spite of the reservation. As we waited in the lobby, we saw other people without reservation being told the same thing so it kind of defeated the purpose of making any reservations. Soon enough we were ushered to our table right in the middle of the dining room. We could also see that there were plenty of empty booths available. The food & drinks are good. We started off with Moscow Mule & Old Fashioned accompanied with the crab cake. It is a good crab cake with practically no fillers. For the main course I went with seared sea scallops which were cooked perfectly. My partner had ordered the pine-nut crusted trout which was breaded just the right amount. Unfortunately, the service was average - my partner was served red potatoes instead of the herb garlic potatoes he had ordered. But by then we had given up on the evening & didn't bother sending them back to the kitchen. We finished off our dinner with white & dark chocolate cake. This was served frozen making it hard to cut & eat. Overall, the dining experience was banal for the amount we paid. I've definitely had better dining experience for lesser amount & exquisite dining experience for a tad more! The food is good & so is the ambiance but they definitely need to work on their service. I would be thinking twice about going back. Also, I wouldn't recommend it for special occasions though it seemed to be a popular spot for birthday celebrations. The restaurant also has a kids menu & plenty of parking. In retrospect, I'm not going to take neighborhood app recommendations with a grain of salt.

We visited Freda’s for a group lunch and had an excellent experience. Freda and her manager Lee worked with me to develop a limited menu that worked for our budget. I had the Cajun seafood pasta which was loaded with delicious shrimp and andouille sausage. Others enjoyed pecan encrusted tilapia, salmon Florentine, grilled chicken breast or vegetarian pasta. All were delicious and preceded by Freda’s signature salad. The service was excellent and we gave a co-worker the retirement lunch she wanted! My team always loves coming to Freda’s-it is a special treat!
Great lunch spot!
I visited Freda's for a terrific lunch of pecan encrusted tilapia. The tilapia was covered with shrimp etouffee and came with fresh cooked green beans. The best part was the mini corn bread loaf that came with the meal. It was absolutely delicious. I had half before the main dish arrived and finished it after the meal - absolutely wonderful! Freda and her manager Lee are wonderful people and make you feel right at home. The staff is also great and my server was attentive and very good!
