We stumbled on this place after the place we originally planned to go to was closed. We were very glad we did! The beer was excellent as was the food. I had the mac and cheese with bacon and my husband had a sub. They had sports on large tv's and a very friendly atmosphere. Outdoor seating is available and dogs are allowed!!

We live in Austin but every time we visit San Antonio we make a point to come up north (off 1604) to Freetail Bewing Co. It's not a big place but the beers are well-crafted and flavorful, and their food menu is strong too. They have 2 IPSa that are great, try them both to see which you like better! BBQ Chicken Pizza is one of the better ones I've had. If you're downtown it will be a bit of a trek, but if you're a craft brew fan it will be worth the drive (20-25 minutes from downtown depending on the traffic).

It was a lovely evening and we enjoyed sitting outside. Beer was good, server was not attentive, food was only mediocre.

If you are looking for atmosphere, this is not the place for you. Has an open, warehouse feel. The beer was good, with about 8 microbrews to choose from. They also have other bottled beers and wine. Food was good, mostly sandwiches and pizza. We all had sandwiches, with soups and salads. Nothing to complain about food wise, but nothing special. A good place to go to get some handcrafted beer in North San Antonio.

Have been coming here for several years and love the beer selection that is always changing. Pizza is fantastic

We've been to Freetail several times now from Houston. Everytime we visit there are great new beers and always order our favorite dish, the Buffalo Chicken pizza. The service has always been great and it's a must visit everytime we are in San Antonio.

The food was pretty good. The beer was decent, not great. In general the brewpubs in Texas fail miserably at IPAs and I felt this was no different. The blonde was good and the red above average. The problem here really was the service. Messed up orders, over charged bills including putting items that no one ordered on the taps, and was slow in all aspects. Wouldn't return

Flights of IPAs are great! They also have wine available. The atmosphere is a sports bar with plenty of tv screens. The hummus is fresh. The stone-fired pizzas are fantastic- try the Mucho Mushroom. The lemon cream dessert was surprisingly gourmet and served with a blueberry sauce. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the beers and the menu.

Can't add much to the other reviews. I had the Oktoberfest and it was clean and fresh. The Greek pizza was great also. Never had a pizza with gyro meat before but the overall taste was super. Can agree that the service is a bit laid back but it was a Sunday afternoon out on the patio and by no means slow. Definitively recommend and will be back.

Always stop here every time we go to San Antonio. The beers are great and a good variety of them. The food is good, especially the pizza. You can take your dog with you and sit on the covered patio.

It's amazing to see how this place has grown. When we lived in San Antonio, we came here once or twice a month. Now it's been about 15 months since we have been and it's better than ever. When we returned we were pleased to see many new beers and an updated menu. A great selection of Belgian style beers now. Love this place.

Freetail had some of their own beer on tap, plus a lot of other craft beer. (their main brew hall apparently has a different selection of their own beer, as well). I sat at the bar during a weekday dinner period. It was a bit loud with the open air architecture, but I was able to still have some great, friendly conversation with the bartender. The beer was good, and my cobb salad large, and tasty. I wouldn't hesitate to return here at all.

A good friend of mine suggested we hit Freetail for drinks as soon as I got into town. The food's great, he said, are the beers. The beers were pretty good, but the food could have been better. I opted for a meatball sandwich, and it tasted about on par with something from Subway / Quizznos (if they're even still around). The server, however, was pretty off his game - he was completely unable to give a listing of their beers on tap (that they make on SITE), nor could he keep track of what was 86'd and what was freshly tapped. We had 2 beers each total and left for somewhere else after he ditched us to chase a waitress around.

Asha was a super waitress. We enjoyed our artichoke heart goat cheese and chips as an appetizer. Plus we enjoyed our pizzas. Three of the four ate the Hawaiin. And two of us shared a gluten free crust pizza topped with basil and black olives. Drinking micro brew beers was the goal of 3/4's of us. Wine for me. Everyone simply had a great time, a relaxing Friday evening.

We go to Freetail frequently. Because it's not fancy, you can drop in after tennis, golf or in motorcycle gear. Their beer and food are great! Servers are always good, too. Lots of TV's so your sport is always on one of them. My favorite? A Lotta Heart pizza. Best white pizza around!

We tried a variety of beers and food...all very good. Pizza was delicious. Salads were fresh and tasty. Sandwiches were very good, too. Overall, a good change of pace.

I've been to this location a few times. Came in recently with a group to watch a NASCAR race. We were told that the TVs could not be changed from the pro football that was showing at the time. The room was about 1/4 full, and few seemed to be watching the football games too intently. They were showing the same football game on multiple TVs. I estimate that they have 10 or more TVs in the room. But they couldn't change just one of them to the NASCAR race? Wait staff couldn't have cared less. So we left and went to a real sports bar that could accommodate us.

Been coming here for 10 years. It has really gone down hill since the sale to an investment company. Staff is not friendly or attentive. So sad. Been a staple for my family for years. Time to move on. Pizza is terrible now.

Had a flight of IPAs that she recommended and didnt really care for any of them. Husband had a different flight and didnt like his either. Hate that the beer menu is on a rotating screen. Food wasnt bad, typical bar food. Cheese dip and hillbilly sandwich were good. Service was good.

Big screens everywhere for the sports fans. Food was fresh. Can't beat the Cobb salad and the sampler appetizer was delicious. Adrian's service was top notch. Large variety of custom beers with great flavor. Definitely would go back.

I've visited Free Tails twice now and each time it was the same. Excellent beer and food, in your average sports bar environment, with exceptionally shotty service. The Greek and mushroom pizza was crispy and flavorful, I found the brisket pizza to be greasy and tough. Chips, queso, and salsa were okay, but nothing in comparison to local Mexican fare. The only real problem was the service, don't come if you're planning a quick lunch or dinner; We waited several minutes to be acknowledge to sit down at a table, and at least 10minutes for menus to even be brought to the table, then another 10-15mintues to place an order and our appetizer and meals came at the exact same time. And then another 20minutes for the waitress to bring our check; If it wasn't for me getting up from the table and interrupting a personal conversation between two waitresses I probably would have waited another 20. Water glasses set empty and we were never asked if we wanted additional beers or drinks. Maybe try the food for take out? Maybe tell your waitress you're in a rush? I'm not sure what to do to light a fire under the staff but, you have been warned.

This place has great beer. They will let you test one if you are not sure what to order. We all ordered a different one, they were all good. My IPA was excellent. We also ordered pizza. The pizza is the best I have had. I had the mushroom and had a piece of the Greek. Both good, very different. I would get the mushroom again, it was amazing. The service was good. Very efficient. So, if you are looking to watch a game, or sit outside with friends or family, this is a great place to go. Just a word of caution, it is a bit loud, and the beer is strong, so not for young children or overly sensitive folks!

Had a sample of locally brewed beers and a pizza. Both were good but not worthy a comeback the day after. Environment was noisy and service was slow. Took ages for my pizza to be served and my sample was almost finished.

I wish there where more brewpubs like this in San Antonio. With that said, I really appreciate Freetail Brewing. The beer and the service have both been great on my many visits there. I like to sit outdoors there. My only negative feedback would be that everyone goes out back to smoke. You can order food and spend time with the family and then 5 people walk out to spoke and stand next to your table. Also, while the pizza is good, I find it to be way too greasy. Go there to have a pint but don't expect to be blown away by the food or environment.

I had been to the pub this past Thursday and really enjoyed it. I decided to take my honey to the tasting room. We really enjoyed it. The staff was very knowledgeable and made great recommendations.

Went here for a late dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious pizza! I had a hard time choosing which one I wanted but ended up going with the Supreme Batastrophe. Pepperoni, sausage, red onion, mushrooms and bell peppers. Yum! Lots of IPA choices and they do a good job of rotating them out. I had the Broken Treaty IPA and I loved it! Service was excellent. I would definitely go back.

Yes the Place is great and the beers are cold...But they keep runing out of Rubia everytime we go. And Yes there's a lot of young and old people there enjoying the ice cold beers inside or out on the patio with an excellent view. I believe the food is good enough to have a beer with but the presence of children around Wow watching soccer football baseball whatever is on the TV is good enough for the adults... But the children are in a place where there is nothing to play with or to do...just watch everybody drink beer. It's a place to take friends for an hour of drinking and sampling beers. They sell t-shirts and souvenirs like glasses but not a place for children! Drink Responsibility and Have Fun!

The main purpose of the visit was to get a beer and socialize on a hot Summer San Antonio day. The location offers indoor seating as well as an outdoor patio. The patio was in the shade and was pretty nice-even in August. Beer prices were OK-about in line for craft brews. The beer selection was good for their drafts. Didn't even look at their bottle offerings. The beers we had were very good and didn't have any off flavors associated with either young beers or dirty lines. Give the October Fiesta a try-not your typical octoberfest beer. It is a lighter version (it is actually a Marzen) and goes well with their pizza. The pizza was very good. We had the meathead and the Hawaiian. The crust was thin and the toppings were generous-especially the meathead. Prices were OK-maybe a little high but it was in line with the quality. If you are in San Antonio and on the vast North side, give it a try.

Great beer and good pizza. Very nice patio with a great sunset view. A bit of a drive from downtown but worth it.

Something new turned into a favorite. We tried this while in San Antonio & were fairly impressed. We started with the cheesy bread, a Freetail Ale for my husband, and a Witicus for myself. The brews were delish. The Witicus packs a punch so one was plenty for me. We got a HippieBilly Cheesesteak & a MBA Bat Panini for our main dishes. Both were decent portions & worth the price. Later my hubby got a La Rubia also but says he'd do the Freetail again. Overall it was a pleasant experience & we'll return. Total was about $50 with tip.

Freetail brews many different beers, so the beer is the reason to come here, although the food is delicious as well. We've been here several times, and will definitely return.

We enjoyed Free Tail. The beers we sampled were excellent. It is close to some of the missions as well if you'd like to stop in after visiting some.

Stopped by after trying to find SA area breweries while on a short vacation. Found & tried Freetail and it was awesome! The beer was fantastic! Food & atmosphere were also very good. People were very nice & great to talk to. Just good folks who love good beer & food. I'll be back for sure!

Spent a Saturday afternoon at the Freetail Brewing Company watching Texas Aggie Baseball and sampling beers! Great time and great staff! Professional and family friendly relaxed environment. Beer was very cold and they had a variety of choices on tap to try! Rye Wit, La Rubia, Bat Outta Hell, Soul Doubt IPA and Freetail Ale were just a few of the beers sampled by our group. Food was good also! Had nachos - super delicious! Then had the Meathead Pizza! It was piled high with delicious goodness!! Highly recommend that you stop by and hang out here!

I took my friend to Freetail’s tonight for drinks and a bite to eat. They have plenty of craft beers to choose from and are more than happy to give you samples. We ordered the brisket nachos and I must say they were the worst nachos I’ve ever had. It was basically a large plate of chips with canned refried beans on top and canned cheese. There may have been some brisket in there somewhere. To top things off, it came with a side of sour cream and canned jalapeños. There was NOTHING in this dish that was actually cooked at the brewery/restaurant. Great service, though!

I usually look for breweries where ever I go this one was worth the trip. We had some pizza that was really good, but mainly came for the beer. They had a decent selection although most of their guest beers were sold out. Their beers overall were good except the sour one. It was awful not really my style though.

Had a lot of fun! Great place to hang out and find some good food! The only reason why I didn’t give 5 stars is because our waiter James wasn’t very good. Ignored us most of the night, it felt like pulling teeth to ask for a simple refill. Other than that, it was a great atmosphere! Look forward to coming back again!

Fun place to get some reasonable food and good beer. Rotating taps all of which were good quality. Prices are very good. Bar staff were a little oblivious even during a slow time when I was there but still friendly.

We went to the newer downtown location. It has tons of room for them to expand, but the tasting room is just right. We enjoyed a few beers - maybe too many. But, they were fairly pleasant about asking us to leave after they had been closed for 30 minutes already. (There's no good way to do this, probably.) They were very friendly to us - and since my friends know TONS about the brewing business, we engaged one of the staff there for 15-20 minutes just chatting about brewing and what is coming up new at Freetail. I'd probably come here again - especially since there's a yoga group that drops by post-class to further unwind.

They had 10 Craft Beers on tap. Their $6 lunch options are very filling. If you are a fan of Craft Beer, this place is worth your time. There is an outdoor seating area that is DOG friendly.

My husband and I stopped here at part of our Craft Cruiser tour. We loved the lightness of the Puro Pils. We weren't hungry but we managed to devour the Freetail Nachos!

The beer selection is awesome and I love to see what they have been brewing lately. The food is always good - and I've had numerous things off of their menu. The waitstaff isn't always on their game but they are knowledgeable.

Whenever we are in San Antonio, we always stop here. The pizza and beer are great along with the giant soft pretzel. We always grab beer to go too.

We live about 3 hours outside of San Antonio and have been dying to try out Freetail for its craft brews. We were not disappointed!!!! I started out with the cherry wit and was happy it wasnt "too" cherry. Just the perfect amount for a fruit beer. My only complaint was it wasnt as cold as it should have been and there were no chilled glasses. Next I had the Rye Wit, comparable to a Blue Moon. Nice and citrusy. Perfect summer beer. Even their dark beer (forget the name), which I dont normally like was delicious. The menu wasnt impressive, but again, we were only there for the beer and thats all we ordered so I cant really comment on the food since we didnt have any. They have a beautiful outdoor seating area which gets perfect sunset views. We WILL be back next time we are in town and in the mood for great beer.

My wife and I had not been here in a while, so we were craving the beer and pizza. We had supreme and it was amazing! Drank the Velocihopter and Vader Saber! A+

We found this brewery/pub while researching Freetail bats for a trip to Austin. Our daughter-in-law was graduating from Fort Sam Houston, and since we were in the area from Florida, we gave it a try. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We chose indoors. Typical sports bar decor. Quick and friendly service. Our server spent quite a bit of time discussing our brew options. We ordered 3 small pizzas and a beer sampler, which was pretty cool. Food was good, beer was good! We enjoyed ourselves. We took canned and bottled beer to share back at home.

My daughters who live in San Antonio know I love to try different beers so they took me here because they brew their own beer and have several varieties to choose from. They also have TVs which was nice so we could watch the Spurs game while we drank beer and ate. Can't beat that!! Their cheese plate and green chile artichoke dip are excellent. They make a good Greek pizza too. They also have some gluten free items which worked out good for my youngest daughter who has to be on a gluten free diet.

The beer, service, atmosphere and experience were all great. I did not have the food but had to mark something above. I've heard it's great though. A poster above said there was an 18% gratuity automatically added. I did not experience that, but I did see a sign about 18% added to walked tabs. I found I liked most of the beers, especially the IPA. I liked how they have a rotating selection. They also have guest taps for commercial beer and customers vote which guest beers they serve by voting on Facebook. The owner spent a lot of time telling us about the brewery and that is always nice to add a more personal perspective on the visit!

My brother and I stopped in here for dinner on a recent trip to San Antonio. Beer selection was good and the beers we tried were great. Food is pretty good too. Great pizzas and a really good happy hour with discounted beers and appetizers.

Good food, great beer and fair prices. Beer menu changes regularly so there are always new beers to try and there is something for every taste from ciders to stouts. They will also fill your growler so you can take some home for later.

Not much more I can say to better represent how much I live this place. Unique beers, great food, axing atmosphere, live music, and great people. Get the goat cheese dip and sample some of their more interesting beers (ex. Saisson w/ rosemary and pepper), they're awesome! You can also get growlers for home. What more do you want?!?

If your looking for good food and beer stop searching! Wednesday is Date Night and their special is awesome! One Medium Pizza and One Pitcher for $16!! I love their Greek pizza and goat cheese dip! Compare to other brewery/pubs in SA this is by far the best due to having great food to complement the beer!

Exploring San Antonio found Freetail. Stopped by and enjoyed their brews. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Had their stout and tropical sour, both were quite enjoyable. Great selection of beers to chose from for each beer drinker.

15 made-on-the-premises beers from which to choose, ranging in 4-7 abv and 10-50 ibu. If you can't find a beer you like, then you don't like beer. You can start with flights of 4 at a time. After that, pints run from $4-$7. Try the brisket sandwich. It's one of the best briskets I've ever tasted, bursting with rich smoke flavor. Desserts are limited to creme brûlée, bread pudding and cheese cake. I went for the bread pudding. It's served piping hot and sweet, but a bit on the dry side.

It sucks that this place is good to eat at, but it is first come first serve...even if you have a large party that arrives late, this place will allow them to sit there for an hour. Little do they realize they lose money this way! As an event planner, there is too much competition for me to bring anyone close to here. Pick the next spot down the road on this one.

I've been to Freetail four times, as it's near my house. I have always enjoyed the beer, the food is hit or miss, but when thinking of going to a place for my birthday coming up, I've ruled out Freetail. Why? The Service? Everytime I've been to this place, I've had to practically tackle my server to get them to fill my beer. A place where you're paying $6.00 a beer, you shouldn't have to do that. I don't want the aggravation of doing this on my birthday, so I'm going to go somewhere else. I'm not sure if they are chronically short-staffed, but it is a downer.

Date Day! My husband and I went after running a 5K and wanting to reward ourselves. Had heard great things--we the Greek Pizza and Goat cheese dip and tried a flight of beer. Everything we had was awesome. The outdoor seating is perfect and they allow pets outside for those who like to bring their furry family with them. Great service! Will return with the rest of the family

We were never greeted by anyone when we walked into this establishment. You seat yourself. The seating was full inside but lots of tables outside. Would have been nice but was cold and no outdoor heating. Looked like a fun atmosphere but having someone greet and seat would be helpful. Will try again in warmer weather.

Their pizza is always fresh and full of flavor, and their beer is ice cold. Their employees are friendly and courteous. Love this place!

We went to celebrate and had a great time. The service was awesome and so was the food. I had their signature sub, my husband and son had different pizzas, and my daughter had a gyro. We had the pretzel with beer cheese and mustard for an appetizer. It was so good. My husband and I had a pitcher of beer (so good) and I tried a cider. We had a great time.

They serve a great selection of Freetail Brewing Co beers. Also a good selection of yummy pizzas. Our dog was welcome on the patio. The server even brought a bowl of water for our dog. We enjoyed watching the airplanes lining up to the San Antonio airport over the patio.

This is my second time and they are finally getting their food service together. The sandwich/salad special was very filling for lunch.Comes with a drink too. The Belgian Golden beer was delish. Easy access to the best craft beer in San Antonio and the food isn't bad either.

We stopped in for a late lunch. Our group had a Berliner Weisse, a session IPA, and a porter and we split the “supreme batastrophe” pizza. Beer was fantastic- all that we tried were great. Pizza was good but not nearly as good as our visit a year ago. Overall cleanliness: below average based on lots of food and trash on the floor Bathroom cleanliness: poor based on paper on floor, liquids on men’s room floor…

We loved our visit to Freetail! Super friendly staff, great beer & food. We enjoyed the couple beers we tried (also took some to go!) and the food was awesome. We had the BAT and the carbonara pizza. We will be checking out their new Brewer/tasting room location later this week.

Awesome pizza here...been here several times and the pizza was consistently good, hot, and abundant. The beers are awesome, especially the ones with a high ABV. The Hopothesis was my favorite, but they also feature great local brews, like 512 and Ranger Creek. Also Jester King I believe. I had one, a sour, I didn't like but all the others were nice. The service is hit or miss. I've had really good service and really bad service, both. It just depends. The bar staff can be a little surly as well, and me, being a beer guy, it seems like we would speak the same language but you really have to work to engage them. Still, they dish out some great brews and food whatever the case, so we won't hold it against them. I really like this place and I just wish it was closer to my home in San Antonio. It's crosstown.

Went for lunch on Christmas Eve. Had the grilled cheese sandwich. You have a choice from 5 cheeses & 2 breads. Also came with a nice fresh tasting fruit cup. Had a flight of 4 darker heavier beers. The porter & Belgium ale were ok but not outstanding. Enjoyed the stout (La Muerta) & the5 kitchen cinq more. Beers were ok but not world class. Even still is worth a return trip.

The logo for Freetail has nothing to do with dogs, but there are many "free tails" on the patio accompanying patrons. During our visit, we met seven-week-old military working dog puppies who were there for socialization, as well as canines the size of small ponies. Owners and dogs mingled on the patio, sharing stories, and visiting each other. Even though owners kept changing tables, the wait staff somehow kept up with all the orders and delivered the correct food to the correct people. I was really impressed with the service. The food was O.K., nothing special. I was with a family member who has Celiac, and there weren't a lot of gluten-free menu options. That said, I would definitely recommend this spot if you are looking for a place to eat (or enjoy a beer) with your favorite dog.

For San Antonio, the pizza here is great. They had some good other options on the menu too. Hard to not find something on the menu suitable for any tastes. While the food was more than adequate, it doesnt claim to be a 5 star gourmet spot. Its not a chain so thats another plus. The atmosphere was great and the TVs seating and bar are all great, the place is very inviting and you feel right at home when you walk in. Kind of place where you wouldn't be surprised to enjoy a talk with a perfect stranger or an employee. The only thing I found off was the automatic 18% gratuity, not sure the logic there, your service speaks for itself and I imagine that the mandatory gratuity is potentially decreasing the incentive for a would be generous tipper and also upsets some people that like the freedom of choice, which your beer menu gives you. just my thoughts on that, but it sure wont stop me from coming there again. The beer they make there is great and always have a good selection of local and craft guest taps. Certainly the passion for brewing and beer in general is evident. if you want a good meal with some great beer and a nice laid back friendly atmosphere, this is the place for you. Better than anything down on that Riverwalk.

Great selection of brews fro light to dark, lagers to IPA's and beyond. Pizza's round it out for a good experience.

Our group picked a beautiful night to be out on the patio of Freetail Brewing Company. We stayed out on the patio to see the rolling hills of San Antonio and enjoy some beer and pizza. The inside had plenty of televisions showing baseball and other sports, but it was a great night to be outdoors. We shared a bbq Brisket pizza and a Large Supreme Batastrophe(green pepper, peperoni, sausage, etc.) There were plenty of beers to choose from and our group all tried different beers and ales. I would definitely suggest a pitcher to share as a great way to stretch the dollar. If you arrive before 7 p.m., the $13 dollar pitcher is only $10. The service was good and it would be a great place to catch a sporting event as well.

Up front, I want to say the service was excellent. Wait staff was awesome and spent alot of time attending to our needs. This trip was for adults to sample some beers we had heard about, but the kids were in tow as well since it was weekend. It was early afternoon, not too crowded. The crowd was pleasant and upscale. Plenty of room to spread out inside and outside. Sportsbar/pizza joint feel to the place. Adult drinks were properly served. Food was served up pretty quickly. Cost wasn't outside the norm - cheaper than say Applebees but more than a mom&pop Mexican food restaurant. Food selection very limited. Again, think pizzaria, not restaurant. If your kids arent into pizza, bread and garlic, then consider another option. Beer - I tried 8 different beers that they had on tap - nothing spectacular. If trying alot of unique beer of hard-to-find styles and you aren't picky about what goes into your tummy to help absorb it, this place is decent, especially if you want to converse with someone who helped brew the beer. If you have a specific beer you want to drink, along with some high expectations about cuisine, check out a uber taphouse/style restaurant, or call ahead to your favorite eatery and see what they have on tap (I know Pappadeaux 's routinely keeps Sam Adams varieties on tap)

Guys weekend. Came to Freetail for some craft beer and brick oven pizza. Cold pints , attentive service and good hot pizza. 👍🏼👍🏼

We were very impressed by Freetail Brewery. It was exactly what we were looking for. Great beer, excellent food, and amazing staff. Our server, Morgan, was awesome. I wish we lived in San Antonio so we could come here every weekend.

Freetail has an excellent selection of their own beers, which are all good. The food is also superior. The goat cheese dip was unique and fabulous. The macaroni and cheese was fantastic. It is a casual place.

Lots of beer to try, including some interesting varieties with blueberry and grapefruit. I was told their pizza was great but was in the mood for brisket nachos. Bad idea- the brisket was only visible with a magnifying glass and the canned refried beans were nasty tasting. My friend had a salad she enjoyed. The manager did take the nachos off our bill (thank you for that!) and I will try the pizza next time. Looking forward to trying other beers too.

Very far away, this place is cold and unpersonal. They make a ton of beers, I asked for the sampler, and I was not very excited, not to say disappointed. The beers were quite plain.

There are two different Freetail spots. This review is for the brewpub. They have great beer and the pizza was good. The staff was friendly and knowledgable. If I lived here I would visit here often.

Ok so we went to this place two weeks in a row and loved it both times. First time we got a few (or more) flights so we could sample several different of there beers. I'm a huge beer fan and this is great beer. The pizza is extremely good very impressed so we came back the following week to do the Wednesday special. $16 for a one topping and a pitcher of beer. Extra toppings are cheap. This is my new haunt. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that the service was slow on both occasions. It's a brewery I'm ready for my beer!

This was my second visit and it was as great as the first visit The menu for food is a bit limited but as a pizza connoisseur I must say the meathead pizza is loaded with meat and cheese The selection of craft beers made in San Antonio could have left me sitting there all night The service is great and if you want to watch sports you do not even have to turn your head as TVs are everywhere

Loved the beer and the porch. Nice place to eat outside. Good variety in the craft beer made at the brewery. Service was good. Food was decent

Decent selection of beers, mainly their own as one would expect. Their own beers are good, not great. Wood oven pizza was tasty and service is good.

My husband and I were visiting from out of town and we always make it a point to visit several breweries in every city that we visit. We were excited to stumble across Freetail Brewing - the atmosphere was cool and the food sounded decent. We sat at the bar which is what we usually do so we can make small talk with the bartender. Big mistake. The woman who was our bartender seemed completely bothered by our presence and gave us one word answers as we were asking about the beers. We started with a flight of what ended up being 4 beers we didn't like as well as an enjoyable margherita pizza. My husband ended up getting a pint of something or other that was okay. Our server/bartender actually never even bothered to ask how our meal was, if we liked our beer, or if we even wanted another drink. There was another woman behind the bar who was much better - we didn't catch her name, but she had some beautiful horse tattoos. We actually had to order our pints from her since our server decided to be MIA. Overall, an "eh" experience - we won't be back to visit .

Such a great place to relax and visit with friends or use as a dressed down business venue. The staff are great and quickly become friends. The service is outstanding and the beer is ice cold. Can't say enough good things about this place so I will leave you with....give it a try.

We have been touring from Maine via breweries. We are now in San Antonio. Came across this place for lunch. Many different styles of beer. Tried many that if described, I wouldn’t have tried. But tasting them was another story....glad we came!

TXBohemian was in search of beverages and lunch on a rainy, traffic clogged afternoon on 1604. Finally was able to get out of the traffic and into Freetail Brewing. Note, Freetail is on the north side of 1604, and if traveling eastbound, you will need to continue heading east, and u-turn to the north side feeder of 1604 due to construction. Or, just look for the big Academy Sports and you will find it nearby. Tried the Meathead Pizza, which was very good, and also a variety of dark beers in a flight, picked by our waiter. All very tasty. Beer menu is posted on a big screen over the bar, which is a little difficult to see and decipher if sitting at a table. Just ask your waiter for a recommendation based on the type of beer you like. Good lunch, tasty beer, friendly service, reasonable prices.

When you first walk in, the atmosphere is inviting sport like bar/pub with a large covered outdoor area too. The I call megatron beer menu is visible from anywhere inside. This was my first visit and will be back to try other stuff. I had bacon pizza and beer. Go ahead try it you won't be disapointed.

We chose this place to get some beer, and because they had advertised that they would be showing and supporting the women's world cup games. When we arrived it was packed with some fun fans! Drums and cheers! And good beers! I especially liked the stout. We sat with a group of strangers at a large table and had a rousing good time! We would return if back in the area.

Went in for drinks before dinner. Their selection of their own beers was excellent. Light, dark, hoppy, malty, sour and everything in between. We sat at the bar (not too busy on a Thursday night) and chatted with the friendly, knowledgeable bartender. MLB and NFL on multiple screens. Great stop.

Customer Service Experience here was top notch! Our order was messed up, and not only did the waiter do what he could he got the manager involved too. We were also checked on by several other employees. They really went out of their way for us.

We searched for a Brewpub to have a meal at the this one wasn't far from our resort. Although the interior was kind of lacking in cozyness, the food and beers more than made up for it. There were 10 of their own on tap and they even had several "guest" beers. Which I thought was interesting. I enjoyed a small brick oven pizza and my lovely wife had a sandwich. Both were flavorful and ample in size. We had a 4 flavor taster and a pint of our chosen brew and were quite please with the quality of the beer. We will come back if we ever make it back this way again.

like the title says brisket was off the wall as long u keep serving backwoods bbq we will b back just for the brisket and sandwiches the best we travel from marbach and 1604just to eat there.love it keep it up.

We have been to Freetail Brewing Co. on multiple occasions now, starting just a few weeks after they opened. The company is named after the Mexican Freetail Bat, and they have bat silhouettes on the wall, on their glasses, as well as on their merchandise (t-shirts, hats, etc.). Their food specialty is artisanal pizza; our favorite is the carbonara, which has been consistently good every time we've had it. They also make a green chile, artichoke and goat cheese dip, served with pita bread or tortilla chips, which is absolutely awesome. Their lime-cilantro salad dressing is divine. Besides pizza they also have sandwiches, wraps, salads and appetizers. We have enjoyed all of their beers that we have tried. They have live bands on their outside patio at least two nights a week. The only down side is that their merchandise is quite expensive - a hat, when we asked, was $28. We have seen young children there, as well as adults. We try to make it to Freetail whenever we're in San Antonio, and enjoy it every time.

Met some friends here to try out the beers. We each did the samplers to get a variety. Our server was helpful and explained all the beers to us. We ordered a couple appetizers to begin with, but they came out greasy. We also ordered a pizza that was very greasy...Pizza Hut like. Our friends tried the burger and slaw and loved the slaw. When we called ahead to ask if this was a family type of brewery restaurant took, were told yes. but it's definitely more of an adults only. We did get a growler of beer and will be doing that again soon.

We had heard this is a good place, so we decided to try it out. We enjoy the occasional beer but are not really knowledgeable. Lucky for us our server was Jose. We explained we were not beer aficionados, so he started asking us what we liked and didn't in beer. To our surprise he started bringing over small tastes of various brews until we found one we liked! We ordered a Caesar salad to share, and he had it split in the kitchen. When we expressed surprise and gratitude, he told us it creates better harmony if each has their own plate! Very cute remark! We also enjoyed the Supreme Batastrophe, which was wonderful. But I have to say the best part of the visit was Jose. His whole attitude and demeanor was fun and we complimented him on this. Honestly, the guy acted like he owned the place, was engaging and professional, and told us his goal is for all his customers to enjoy the experience. How refreshing!

We had two different flights of their beer. All of them were pretty good but my favorites were the Realtail Saison and May the Horse be With You. The service started out pretty good but we had to change tables due to extra people showing up with the person that we were meeting. We ordered an appetizer that took 35 minutes to come. It was brought only three minutes before our food order arrived. We had the cheese steak sandwich and the gyro. Both were ok-- not great. I will go back for the beer if in the area, but will try other breweries if an option presented itself.

The food, service and atmosphere are wonderful. Although, i come for the beer!

Found this brewery on the north side of the city. Tried 6 different beers, 2 were not good, 3 were decent. The 6th hopypthisis was amazing, and I would go back for it alone. As far as food, we started with chips, salsa, and queso. The chips were horrible, not sure if they were stale or just bad tasting. The salsa had absolutely no flavor. The queso was decent, but I probably wouldn't get it again. Next we had the pizza, the pizza is made in a brick oven. It is very high quality, and very good. Another member of our party had the lasagna and said it was good as well. I will go back for beer and pizza.

Stopped in on a Thursday afternoon to avoid rush hour. Typical brewery ambiance was my first impression. Over the next two hours the staff was friendly, engaging, welcoming and altogether wonderful. GREAT beer selection! I stayed long enough for dinner and ordered a Cobb salad. They did not skimp. It was top Tyre! This place is now on my "A" list.

As a seasoned IPA fan and visiting many different breweries across the country each year on my business travels I was excited to join business clients here for beer and pizza last night. I tried all the iPas and wasn’t really impressed with any of them. Lacked flavor and hops. Actually had better ipa the night before at an Heb true Texas bbq spot nearby. Pizza was ok but a little over cooked. Love the concept and place however and server was very friendly.

Stopped by while my wife was getting her nails done nearby. Got an impromptu impromptu ipa(pun intended) . Decided to try the baked crab stuffed mushrooms. They were ok but the crab was minimal at best. The dipping sauce added a nice kick but for the most part they were just mushrooms. The ipa is excellent. I don't put myself out there as a beer expert but I know what I like and this I like. As for the service, it can use some help. When I asked the server about the happy hour specials her response was "yea after 3" I said "isn't it 3" being from another time zone I want sure. Her response was "I'm not sure. " the servers could be a little more attentive. I will come back if I'm ever in town again to give them another try.

We have been wanting to try this place for a while now, big mistake! I ordered a Cuban Panini sandwich. Flags should have come up for me when they crossed cultures I guess. The "pork" used was none other than luncheon meat! Really going to serve luncheon meat for a Cuban sandwich?? Potato soup..well it was potato soup. Cut potatoes in a cream sauce. Kind of tasted like cut potatoes in a cream sauce, bland and tasteless. Fail and off the list.

Delicious beer. Great selection. Lunch special for less than $9. Half a sandwich or 8 inch pizza and a salad. Tasty food. Freshly prepared.

Pretty good brewery with a decent selection of beer. They also serve food including pizza which was pretty good. There is a large outdoor seating area as well.

This eclectic place has a great feel. We had two great beers - some kind of delicious stout. The seating area is picnic tables and a lot of empty space. No food. Complimentary popcorn is available. Some others brought food in with them. We left early to find dinner.

Came out here for lunch. Great selection of beers and solid Pizza. The ambiance is hole in wall-ish, but that is what gives it it's charm.

Great casual place off the beaten path, and easy to get to. Go at dusk and you can hear and see the bats. Suggest the beer sampler of the artisan beer. We had a great time, and were able to get seating during the NBA finals. It was fun even though we don't follow basketball much because the home town crowd was cheering on their team. Our server was busy but very attentive to our needs. If you want a place to relax after a long hot day, and away from the real touristy spots, this place is great. It has sort of an AUSTIN feel to it, so if you like quirky, this place would be worth a try.

Self seating brew pub with lots of bar space and outdoor seating. Concrete floors and simple styling throughout. Come for the brew, not the decorating and ambiance. General cleanliness: Overall clean. Bathroom cleanliness: woman’s restroom- above average. Men’s restroom- below average. Service: not very attentive but nice kids work here. Food: Excellent pizza. We ordered a large custom with four toppings and it was one of the best pizzas we’ve had in a long time. La Rubia Campo sour Belgian ale- a balanced and refreshing barrel aged sour blond. Starts complex earthy lightly sour with a long mid body finishing tart and dry. Very refreshing on a hot Texas day. Wheat Yo’ Self Hefeweizen- a decent hefe but no wheaty body like a real German hefe. Finishes a bit dank. Ghost Pixel apricot gose- a hazy straw brew with minimal head. The apricot tartness compliments with mildly sour gose so nicely. Finishes short and dry. Ardent Rastard (in a bomber)- a rich, complex, strong ale brewed with figs and in Wild Turkey Barrels. A great dessert brew.

We went there to watch a soccer game when we were in San Antonio last weekend. Great clean fun, place with quality food and drink. My husband really enjoyed the hand-crafted beers. I had the meaty pizza...wood-fired stove...will go back. Next time, if it's not so hot, we'll sit on the patio...it was really neat looking.

We could walk to this place from our house - but we don't. The pizza is okay. No burgers. No fries. Decent sandwiches/wraps and salads. The mac n cheese is above average. There is a delightful green chile sauce appetizer that I could live on. Lively crowd and lots of TVs - so more of a sports bar. Patio which welcomes dogs. Main draw is the beer - many varieties. But missing some local San Antonio craft beer.

Waiter was excellent, personable. After a sample or two, ordered a brown ale. One large pizza fed the three of us. Order the BBQ Mac n cheese brisket pizza. I never would have went for it but decided to go with my nephew's suggestion. Once you have it, you'll crave i! And if you're from out of state, you might regret having it in the first place because pizza will not be the same.

We were here with our family to have a few beers and pizza. There is indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of parking. We were seated right away. The beers were good and the pizza was great. However I don’t know if they were short staffed or if the waitress had too many tables, but we waited an extremely long time for our pizza. She didn’t check on us regularly had to flag her down. Our friends who live here said normally service is better.

Happened to come across this brewery while out and about and decided to stop in for a drink. We sat outside on the very dog-friendly patio. It did take a bit longer than desired for a server to come over to us (we almost left), but once they did, all was forgiven. The young lady who helped us was super nice and helpful! The beer menu was plentiful and we had fun getting a flight each. Decided not to get food this time but if we're ever back in SA I'm coming here to check it out!

this place has some of the calzones i have ever had!! cooked in a fire over - amazing!! :) we also tried the hummus and pita bread appetizer - a winner, for sure! my husband tried the beer sampler and thought the beer was really tasty! wonderful service, too!

We came here for a late night drink and grub. Great menu, great beer selection, good prices and really cool gear. Liked it a lot. Will definitely come back.

While I am not a beer drinker, the hubby and I were looking for a brewery in this side of town. We stopped in and were attended to right away. I explained to our server what my tastes were like, and she made recommendations and brought over samples. Decent variety of beers available, as well as a compatible menu to go with it.

Although we live across the street, we'd go weekly if we lived 50 miles away. The beer selection is great, and the pizza is fantastic! Get the green chile goat cheese artichoke dip - you won't be disappointed!

Loved the varieties of beers and the quality of product, ranks right up there with our local breweries. Only complaint was location, it is way out of the way from downtown, happen to be staying one night out in that area but it was still a $15 taxi to get there. A second downtown location would be nice.

Great selection from this brewery and others. Wait staff was efficient and friendly. Large shaded patio provided a great view.

This is one of the top craft breweries in San Antonio. The service is always top notch and their beer selection is always fresh. The food is good good. This is one of the few places in SA that lets bring and will fill your own growler. Most other places you have to buy theirs and use only theirs. There are outdoor tables so you can bring you dog and have a beer. A great place to have a beer and watch some sports. Don't forget to download the Digital Pour App so you can see their beer menu before you get there.

Great beer selection and most are available in 16 oz drafts (unlike so many places going with snifter and mini snifter sizes). Had a great mushroom pizza too.

... but the wervice was pretty average. Worth going if you are into craft beers and ciders as they were very good. Atmosphere and service was a disappointment however and they could easily do better.

Went there to check out ! Busy place and very loud ! Food was ok ...beer was ok There are better places for the same money

Great atmosphere, good food and if you like beer a good selection. Friendly helpful staff. Went here early evening suitable menus for adults and children.

Wow!!! We were traveling through San Antonio & remembered this place ~ we stopped here in October 2014 on our way to Florida. So disappointed with service & food! Server made us feel like we were putting him out 🙁 rushed us all the way through My Husband & I had just drove over 400 miles; just wanted to have a beer or two, eat some pizza (by the way was NOT GOOD), and just chill! Server James kept walking over, took up our bowls/plates before we were even done chewing our food UGH! 😑 we felt so rushed & uncomfortable. Women's restrooms dirty & toilet paper roll dispenser was broken - therefore each time you tried to get TP the damn roll would fall on the dirty floor YUCK!! 😬 To top it off; My husband gave check & cc card to server & he told my husband he's trying to get off shift....... REALLY??? Then have another server take care of US - cash us out & give you (the server) your tip, which by the way I only gave him $2.39 in which I felt that was too much!!! NEVER EVER have we felt SO RUSHED & PUT OUT!! We have been traveling this Country for almost 3 years & this was tops in BAD Customer Service!! Yuck 👎🏼👎🏼

Freetail was one of several stops for breweries in San Antonio. We went on the brewery tour, which was a great overview of their process their at Freetail. Cannot say enough about how friendly all the staff was, giving a great tour, giving local recommendations in the area, and just generally being cool, genuine people. Bring your own company for a brew or just enjoy the tasty drinks with the bartender.

Great beer and great people. If you're a beer lover this should be on your list of places to check out.

We stopped in for lunch to sample their beer and try the pizza. The place is just off 1604 in a small shopping strip, away from the road entrance. It sits on a ridge which gives it a nice view and the enhance that with plenty of outdoor seating and a wall that opens to share the vista and the fresh air with those inside. The decor is simple with cement floors and sturdy tables and chairs. There were several tables and bar seats occupied in the middle of a Friday afternoon. A beer sampler get you 5 beers, so we had to get 2 in order to taste all 10 of the beers on tap. There was a very wide variety with several experimental types included, but very good examples of standard types so that they'll definitely have a couple suited for every taste. I appreciated the chance to try some really different beer styles. The menu includes sandwiches, wraps, and snacks, but it really features their artisan pizzas. this includes a large selection of make-your-own ingredients. We found our choices to be tasty and crispy. Service was also attentive and helpful. I would definitely recommend a visit and I would try to stop by again if I am in the area.

When we lived in San Antonio, we used to go here several times a month. The beer was great, always lots to choose from since they are always brewing up special batches. The food was great too. Whether you got a gyro or a pizza, it was always good. If you aren't a fan of craft brews (not sure who wouldn't be.:) ), they had various other beers on tap including some local favorites and ciders.
Fortunately we had chips and salsa to fill us until our food arrived.
The food was really good, but service was horrible. They were pretty busy when we got there, and most patrons were there to drink. We went for dinner, and had a heck of a time getting our food. If we go back, I will have a snack first!
