i've been going here for lunch for years. love their entrees, salad and soup. the french bread is amazing. service outstanding.

You'll learn a little history when you visit French Sandwiches, Like the fact that France had colonized Indo-china (Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia) for over 100 years and passed on their traditions of bread and pastrie making to the locals. Since the American War in Vietnam, thousands of refugees came to the United States and brought with them their Asian-French Fusion artisans and cuisine. Here at French sandwiches you can enjoy the atmosphere and tasty bistro fare from the streets of Paris on the most fantastic baguettes in San Antonio. The mini cream puffs served with the meals are best enjoyed with a cup of Vietnamese coffee - a powerful cup of chickoree java, just like in Café du Monde, sweetened with condensed milk. It is just the perfect and oh so addictive eye-opener! I highly recommend making this stop a habit!

My husband and I have been eating here for a long time. My husband was the one who first discovered it. The couple who run this restaurant are always so friendly and greet everyone as they enter and thank them when they leave. I love the croissants! My husband prefers the French bread. The sandwiches are so good! I love the bahn mi; my husband likes the pate and the Chef's Continental, which has pate, chicken and sausage, all house-made. I like the bahn mi because the thin slices of pork have been marinated and taste delicious! Each sandwich has lettuce, cucumbers, mayonnaise and a fabulous mixture of marinated slivers of carrots and daikon. I always ask for more! Each sandwich comes with your choice of chips, a salad or a soup. Their French Onion soup, although not thick with onions is a rich, wonderful broth and has a piece of bread on top with melted cheese.. Your meal also comes with a lovely, little cream puff. Although it is only a few bites, the vanilla custard is beautifully cool and refreshing. If you want more, you can always take more cream puffs to go.

This is one of the best kept secrets in San Antonio. This little shop serves the most delicious sandwiches I've had in a LONG time. The croissants and French baguettes are made daily and you can taste the difference. Each meal comes with a small, delicious cream puff, your choice of salad or soup (I like the French Onion Soup). The service is prompt and the food is delicious, the prices are reasonable.

We showed up at 11am and by the time we left every table was filled! There was only one waitress and she was running like crazy. I found this place when my son was in the hospital 20 years ago, because they deliver. If you are at the medical center for a while, give them a call and they will deliver the food right to you! They still have fantastic sandwiches and soups. I enjoyed the roast beef this time with the horseradish that gave it a kick. The creme puff was an added delight.

Since it was just me and my book, I was a bit nervous in a new environment. I was so wrong to be! The owner and his son offered the best service and the food was just as great. I had the roast beef, their homemade mayo/aioli and the French onion soup. The little cream puff was the perfect end to the meal. I'm bringing the whole family here soon!

Stopped in upon a recommendation, which means somebody really enjoys this place. I ordered the French Onion Soup to start and it was really, really bland. Added quite a bit of salt and pepper. The floating bread was soggy and the cheese was minimal. I also got a sandwich with various meats, bacon, and cheese. It was well-prepared and the roll was superb! But the flavor was missing. I did enjoy the dessert pastry that accompanied the sandwich, though. Not too sure if I will return because it just didn't WOW me.

Came here with friends today for lunch. I had to Roast Beef with the French Onion Soup. Both were very good. Will definitely come back!

Delicious sandwiches - definitely a hole in the wall but a great find! Good staff too. Try the banh mi sandwiches.

I've been eating here for at least 15 years and I've NEVER had a bad experience. How many places can you say that about?? Yes, VERY busy for lunch and they're closed by 3 PM. They make their own pates, soups and roast their own meats. The asparagus shrimp soup is light and flavorful as is the French onion soup. I usually have the roast beef with sauteed onions on a buttery croissant. It comes with a slice of crisp cucumber, juicy tomato and sprig of cilantro. YUM! All sandwiches come with soup and a little puff pastry filled with creme englaise. What a treat!

This was our first visit to the long standing, family owned sandwich shop. The menu features a variety of sandwich fillings all delivered on homemade French bread or croissant. The house made mayonnaise is a lovely garlic aioli. There are sandwich and French onion soup, salad or chip combos. The dining room is comfortable. The owner visited our table to share part of the history of the restaurant.

We went for lunch before the movies. Small, 15 tables, fills up quickly, worth every bite! Homemade bread and the sandwiches with a Vietnamese touch. Our group had the Veggie sandwich, roast beef, chicken salad with their honey Dijon vinaigrette, ham and cheese very yummy and tasty. Soup, French Onion or asparagus shrimp that day. You get soup or chips but the very best part is the cream puff filled with a beautiful French cream! This makes the lunch complete, it is just the right size to finish your meal! Give it a try...you will be sassified! Open for breakfast and lunch. Closes at 3:00

These sandwhiches were amazing. We never knew something as simple as a sandwich could be so good. Their homemade soup was delicious and the meal comes with a little dessert to complete it. The people were nice and very friendly. A Big Bang for your buck!!

I stopped by French Sandwiches today because I had read a great review about it on Yelp. I was going back to work from a dental appointment so I ordered to go. Since I'm Vietnamese, I thought I'd try the Banh Mi. They had two of them on the menu so I ordered both. To my surprise, the nice gentleman told me that it would be about 25 minutes. Really?! To make two sandwiches?! I was already there, so what the heck...I waited. When I got back to my desk and took that first bite, I realized that it was worth the wait!! The fresh bread, the pork, the pickled carrots....every ingredient was delicious! The sandwiches came with French Onion Soup and a little puff pastry. The soup was outstanding! It had large pieces of onion and cheese floating in it. It was delicate and creamy. I could have eaten another bowl! The puff pastry was the perfect topper to a great lunch. Not a bad deal for $7.25 a sandwich. As I sit here and write this review after eating this amazing lunch, I can tell you that it was just the right amount of food for the right price! I will definitely wait again for it!

I go here once or twice a month, usually get onion soup and S2, a club type sandwich on french bread. The tea is reasonable in price. The owner comes around and talks when he has time.

Stopped by for lunch after finding this place on Trip Advisor.... The sandwiches were GREAT! The restaurant was very clean and neat. Everything tasted fresh and the veggies (lettuce, tomato, etc.) were perfect. We will definitely return and try some more of the sandwiches next time we are in the area.

Tucked away in a little strip mall is French Sandwiches, easily the best sandwich's I have had... Each sandwich is offered either on French bread or a croissant and your choice of a soup (French onion... yum!) or salad and a cream puff. My default is the fried tofu, but I recently had a croissant with cheese and was amazed at the complex flavors it emitted. The secret may have been the homemade mayo.... Service is prompt and the owners / servers are kind and always smiling. I often go out of my way to get a sandwich here!

This place is perfect for a quick lunch! I ate here today with friends and enjoyed it very much. Prices are reasonable and service is good. Very relaxing atmosphere with classical music. I had the S-3 roast beef sandwich. Everything comes with a little pastry. Nice!!!

We went to this restaurant on a whim. What a great idea! Tiny presentation from the outside. Inside, bright , pleasant, and very clean! The service was great and waiter/owner helpful in choosing food. We ordered the A2 and A6 sandwiches, I believe. The included French onion soup was incredibly good, though presented a little differently than I'm used to. The sandwich was quite good, and very large. They bake their own French bread-- very , very, good and light. The miniature eclair, which was included, was fresh and wonderful. A delightful place. Service and price very good. also.

Since the late 90's, my family and I have been going to French Sandwiches for French style Vietnamese sandwiches. Many people prefer the banh mi but I'm of big fan of the S12. It's a tofu sandwich with grilled onions, swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce, cilantro on french bread. It's absolutely amazing. I usually compliment that with the french onion soup and an iced tea. It also comes with a little french eclair. Ask for the homemade hot sauce to out on the sandwich. If you are every in the Medical Center area, you have to try this place. During lunch time, it usually get's pretty packed and you will have to wait.

Not your run of the mill sandwich shop. Wonderful flavors in sandwiches and soups! A cream puff included with lunch, nice touch.

A hidden gem. Great soups, salads, sandwiches, ice tea, coffee, cafe du monde coffee and service. Freshly made. Happy I found this place. In a small strip mall. Been in business many years. Has a high rating 4.7

I just called in to order lunch for delivery and the guy that answered the phone was beyond rude. I kept trying to figure out why he was telling me that they don't deliver when I have seen a delivery sign on their door. The guy kept repeating that they do not deliver right now, meaning that there are times that they offer delivery. Not only do they not offer delivery for two people (three is the minimum) but they only do it before 11 AM and after 1:30 PM. It is 1:04 PM right now, just for clarification. I think to avoid confusion, he should've specified the terms of their delivery service instead of cutting me off and trying to get me off of the phone. I am a BIG stickler for customer service regardless of the time and what kind of day it's been. I really believe that if you opt to work in the service industry, you should be prepared to buck up and treat people with common decency. I would have been a first time customer. Who knows how many times I would've returned and how many people I would've referred. Just goes to show how being an [--] on the phone makes a serious impact on the customer.

This Restaurant was located conveniently close to medical center , was very clean , served fresh & tasty grilled chicken ( complete meal around $ 6) . They also offered us a senior citizen discount which was great. The rice & salsa was good. The tortillas soggy( microwaved) . The tables were clean and we'll supplied.
Wonderful
Never had a tofu sandwich before. It was so delicious. The owner and his wife are so nice. Clean and lovely place to eat for lunch.
