Family oriented food

By Peter F |

Lots of great tasting tacos. Brisket, chicken and shrimp were favorites. Cole slaw was perfectly prepared and the Margaritas were made to taste. Stay as long as you want and eat tacos that you will want to recreate in your own home. Although it will feel like a fast food place, it is definitely not. We recommend you make reservations, the place fills up quickly.

Happy Hour on a Pleasant Patio

By Deborah D |

We first visited this restaurant for happy hour. We just ordered drinks on the back patio - margaritas, frescos, and beer. There was a breeze blowing through the live oaks. It was such a pleasant way to spend an hour. Later that week, we went back for dinner and loved the atmosphere and food. We ordered the achiote and citrus chicken, beets, and loaded queso. Everything tasted wonderful! The service was warm and friendly. The prices were affordable. I highly recommend eating outside at this restaurant.

Solid Family Dining Experience

By Elizabeth E |

Fresa’s food was great. We sat inside, and it was a welcomed respite from the very hot mid-summer walk we had just taken on South Congress. My ten-year-old had a little trouble with his spicy shrimp tacos, but my husband and I loved our food. The queso was the big hit for the whole group. I found the service to be good and the prices reasonable. The only off-putting interaction was with the hostess who seated us. We had a reservation for an indoor table at 5:30 pm. It was not at all crowded. The hostess made sure to tell us that the next reservation on our table was at 7:15 and that we needed to be finished with our meal by that time. I’ve never had this experience at a restaurant before - casual dining or otherwise - and it seemed inhospitable and unnecessary. If this is common practice, I’d advise against it. Other than that, we loved the dining experience and would recommend Fresa’s.

Great spot!!

By Nan D |

This place has a nice atmosphere, including outdoor space. Great drinks, delicious chicken and side dishes.

outstanding food, but pricey

By brittbaustin |

Love their food. Everything is great. My only gripe is that food for 2 people (granted we are pigs) ran about $45. Plus, 5 PM traffic was unbearable, seriously- made me consider going back home, but I'd already paid online!! This is a carry-out location, so the accessibility questions are not relevant

A great place to sit around on a beautiful spring day

By Spainwinecountry |

We met a group of five old friends from high school an sat there talking and eating all afternoon on a beautiful Texas spring day. The food and drink was nearly as good as seeing old friends. This restaurant is made for leisurely dining.

Pollo Delicioso

Not to long ago I drove down South First St. from downtown and noticed some cool businesses along the way, and surprisingly saw Fresa’s Chicken Al Carbon. I recognized it from their Lamar location where it is basically a take out service, but this looked like a sit down restaurant. A week later I brought my wife here for lunch to check it out and luckily found a parking spot in their reasonably small lot. The outside has the matching color scheme as their other place and great background drop for for a selfie. As you walk up they have a window solely for take out orders. They also have an outdoor park like setting with tables and big oak trees to enjoy eating your chicken. There is even a small stage. But this place is a normal restaurant where you check in first before having a seat. We sat inside since it was a bit chilly. The decor is nice and seems like the building was an old ranch style house with the vaulted ceiling. The place seems to have serious character appeal. They do serve alcohol and different menu items from their Lamar location. I ordered two tacos, La Fresa and El Santo, and a half Achiote & Citrus Chicken to take home for our next day meal. The take home order included Charro Beans, Mexican Rice, Grilled Onion, Marinated Jalapeño, Corn Tortillas & Salsas. The jalapeño was tasty but very hot so beware. My tacos were normal sized with each containing different ingredients where one had Pulled Achiote Chicken and the other Agave-Lime Chicken. Both were delicious and had nice flavor. It was different from the taco places around town fully enjoyed it. The next day we ate the half chicken and it was so good. It was the best rotisserie chicken I ever had since the last time we got one at their Lamar location. The rice and beans we great too. It was pretty easy to setup where everything was heated in the microwave separately. But back at the South First location we enjoyed our lunch from the food to the great staff and very family friendly. Can’t wait for better days to eat outside.

Takeout

By David T |

Takeout 1/4 chicken with two sides. I wasn’t impressed enough with the food to rate it better than average.

LOVE love love this place

We're local and can walk to Fresa's on South 1st -- which is good b/c the parking lot gets full fast and finding parking in the area is not fun. However it's definitely worth the hunt for parking as the food is amazing - I have never had a bad bite there. Service is great and the drinks are plentiful. Very dog friendly, which is always a plus. Beautiful live oak trees and lighting. It's a favorite.

Family-friendly & good food

By journeyhitherandyon |

Good food and drinks. Limited menu but sufficient options. Super service and truly family-friendly. Had the vibe of a local, neighborhood restaurant where everyone knew each other but strangers were welcome. Literally had a mix of young families with kids running around in the outdoor area while local businessmen all were having happy hour drinks in the bar! We loved it!

Great ambience ...

By Quest779594 |

The backyard setting under the mature live oak trees and patio lighting was simply beautiful on a warm summer night. The fan misters kept us comfortable and cool. Watermelon Agua Frescas were delicious! Beers were ice cold and refreshing. Rice and beans were very good. The street corn will not disappoint. Tacos and beef skirt steak were average. Service was so-so. This is the place to go to have drinks and appetizers (chips and queso) and enjoy the evening with friends.

Fresa rip-off

By Donna J |

Was once worth the money, but now the portions are shrinking--even in the whole chicken meal?!?!--and you spend a hundred bucks on takeout and you still get no salsa! An employee told me her manager had told her not to put in the salsa. They need to put in salsa gratis and start putting in more guacamole--They use the same size container but fill it less than half full--less than a half cup. For $11. Have been fuming about this for a while but when I picked up 2 family sized chicken meals and saw how little food there was in it for an impromptu after christmas gathering--and had to augment the food, that was it.

Good food, but a bit pricy. Typical Austin.

Went with family & extended family. Nice ambiance, good food, but a bit pricey. Prickly Pear drinks were $9/each and house Margarita was $8, but I've had better.

Rude Staff and Mediocre Food

By Heather |

The tacos were plain and something I could have easily put together at home for a fraction of their expensive price here. Plus, the staff was rude and the environment was not accommodating to children or pets.

Weeknight fun with amazing food, drinks, and killer service!

By Marissa B-G |

We came here on a Wednesday night with to start our annual friendship trip and were so delighted. The restaurant was busy and still the service was very fun and courteous. We made a reservation ahead of time and though we accidentally made a booking mistake on our end with the time, the staff honored it and were so kind! We got seated and enjoyed the outdoor atmosphere, the music, and of course the amazing food. Seriously, it was SO good. The drinks were great too. We will be going back there with our group. A great time!

Nice Outdoor Patio & Ambiance

By TigerTina301 |

Came here for dinner with my dad & fiance. Nice outdoor patio seating with big trees for shade in the warm weather. Tables were spaced 6 feet apart. Waiter was efficient and friendly; service was great! Food was pretty good as well as the margarita. It wasn't outstanding or amazing, but good which is why I said average. I really enjoyed the outdoor scenery & ambiance.

Pink chcken is a no no

By Nep R |

Cleanliness remains to be desired. And it's simple, chicken cannot be pink when served. They get 2 stars since they got one of the dishes right, but we won't go back there again.

Good dinner

We had a good night out there, the starters were great- loved the nachos with cheese! Main was ok, but churros to die for! Really friendly and helpful staff.

Cheap but great authentic Mexican food!

By Michaela B |

It is a very plain restaurant with very kind and nice people. Kids are welcome and have space to run around. Food is good and fair priced.

Great food, quite pricey

By Keep_Austin_Beerd |

If you're looking for a place for your daily lunch, keep looking. You'll run dry with daily visits here. If you plan on treating yourself, albeit on a higher budget, then, by all means, stop here.

Tasty food and relaxing ambiance.

By Marsha T |

We sat outdoors and loved this casual restaurant's delightful and relaxing ambiance. Everything we ordered was very tasty, although I wasn't a fan of the cucumber margarita. Service was excellent.

Great food and ambiance

By Carol W |

I had dinner with a friend at Fresa’s and it was definitely worth it! We ate a couple of appetizers (la gringa quesadilla and black bean pachucos) both delicious, we also ordered one of each of the items under the verduras category, amazing! For dessert we of course ordered the churros and they didn’t disappoint. The cocktails are also very tasty. First time here but will definitely be back next time I am in Austin.

Lovely atmosphere

A special place both indoors and out. The patio is large and made special with live oaks but the indoors with large windows allow for special vibe also. Casual food with quality ingredients. Friendly service. My Mother’s Day brunch was perfect!

BBQ Mexican Style

By Nana M |

This place is good, the service is fine. The good side is that if you ask for the BBQ you get to share. The outside patio is a breeze. Is good. Es un buen lugar para comer asado con un poco de sabor mejicano. El pationes amplio y si son un grupo grande pueden compartir del asado.

Great Food - Great for Kids - especially if the weather's good

By Shelley Fisher F |

Hadn't eaten outdoors here before - just did take-out. The outdoor picnic tables are next to a graffiti-covered concrete area that kids love to run around. Bring chalk! Kids are allowed to draw on the concrete. Fantastic shrimp tacos, amazing Brussel sprouts, great cauliflower, super caesar salad..

Good food in a pleasant environment

By Thomas W |

We had the Chicken dinner and it was delicious. The sides were also very good. We went to the new location and the restaurant is very nice.

Delicious Take-out Mexican Food - Tacos, and more

By Shelley Fisher F |

Great option for a quick, outstanding take-out Mexican dinner in Austin. Kid menu and adult menu - both great. The La Mari taco was fantastic - Adobo Shrimp, Avocado, Kale Slaw, Pickled Red Onion, Avocado Verde Salsa, with Flour Tortilla. The grilled sweet potatoes were truly wonderful. But the biggest surprise treat was the Crispy Brussels Sprouts w/ Pasilla Aioli - best Brussels Sprouts we've ever had!!

Their patio is perfect with

By ELP98 |

Their patio is perfect with large trees for good shade and fans with spritzers. Their loaded queso is amazing! We tried three different soft tacos and one was better the next. Tables were well spaced. Solid Covid safety protocols. Thank you!

Beautiful patio !

By krista t |

In town visiting family and wanted a nice relaxed leisurely lunch outside. Was pleasantly surprised ! The patio was wonderful with all of its live oak trees. Chips , guacamole and queso were great. Had the chicken taco and the meat was very moist. Will definitely be back !!!
