Great flavorful chicken

By John G |

My kids picked up some chicken and sides for a quick lunch and I found it delicious. It was moist and flavorful throughout. I would have like a basket of wings (achiote citrus) and would have been perfectly happy. All in all, a great meal.

Disappointed

By texashollys |

We visited the south first location which we went to a few months back. We always enjoy the food. We were seated, looked at menu, and waited and waited, kept discussing menu, and waited. After 15 minutes of no one attending our table we decided to leave. Very disappointed. We drove across town just for Fresas.

Great for breakfast

By MangaMan |

Friendly and fast (if you beat the rush) - never had a bad breakfast taco here. Look for the drive-through. Tacos are so full you can barely close them.

Can you say FRESH!

By luvplayacar |

My newest addiction. Super healthy and fast service. No indoor seating, so I usually get it to go. Drive thru available. SUPER yummy healthy food. Aqua Frescas just what is needed on hot summer days. Great set ups for cocktail hour with the fresh lime juice and such. Grab some guacamole and set ups and you have an instant picnic!

Quick lunch

By Inge M |

Opted for this restaurant as a quick lunch on a public holiday. The waitress was friendly and helpful. Menu has something for everyone including some healthy options which turned out to be favorites around the table. Awesome, low-key lunch I would definitely recommend I in the area!

But the guacamole was good

By austinbillgolfer |

The only good thing was the guacamole Chicken was totally dried out. It must have been cooked hours earlier and reheated. I can get better chicken from HEB rotisserie at 1/2 the price. Margaritas were overpriced and were lacking in taste and alcohol Overall an expensive, for what was received, and very disappointing. Will not return

Worst service ever

By Beverly C |

This is a pleasant, casual place with a lively patio that welcomes children and pets and a stylish, bright interior, and the food is pretty good. However, our waiter, although friendly enough, seemed stoned or otherwise impaired. When taking our order, he had to ask for it to be repeated several times, although the restaurant was not terribly busy or loud at the time. Then it turned out he had totally missed one person's order, which was discovered when everyone else got theirs. Far from facilitating this mistake, the kitchen apparently put the missing order at the end of the line, which meant our dining companion didn't get his food until the rest of us were finished eating. Abjectly apologizing for the inconvenience, as he well should, he offered us free desserts to help compensate, then couldn't seem to get THAT order right. All in all, a frustrating experience. We won't go back.

Raw chicken

If you want to take a chance on food poisoning than by all means please eat here !!! Rude staff !!!!!

South 1st location is amazing

By Heather N |

First time visit and loved it. The avocado margarita is amazing, chicken is to die for but the Kale stole the show for me. Great service and love the outdoor eating space.Cant wait to go back.

Great chicken and other

By Med F |

Try the lime chicken and the trimmings. Great apps too. if you like churros, they make the best. Full bar but drinks size not generous. They do not take reservations which is a minus. Great outdoors seating when weather is nice.

Great feel, good food

By h0met0wnt0urist |

This place is in walking distance from the Graffiti Park. We walked over there and were pleasantly surprised by the bright inviting building. The food was good, no complaints on that. I would eat there again. The only down side is that there isn't a good place to sit and eat. They have a bar with benches, but the day and time we went, the bar was in full sun. We ended up eating behind the building on the grass by a small creek. If I did it again, I might figure out how to take my food to Duncan Park, which is right behind the building and has picnic tables.

Amazing Food!

By Jacob E |

I ordered pick up from here, and all the food was delicious! The food came quickly and was hot and well prepared. I would definitely suggest here to anyone who likes Mexican food.

OK food- location good for kids

By irisarbor |

We ate at the Fresa's on First St. This location has a lot of tables outdoors and has a big playground for kids. We were meeting friends with kids so they suggested this place, and we were OK with it, because when the kids are happy.... It had been a hot day, so I tried a horchata which was kind of weird and very grainy, not at all like horchatas I have had before. The chips and guacamole were excellent, in particular the chips which were very light and crispy. We ordered the "not as spicy" chicken, and the chicken itself was OK, but a bit dry. The sides were very bland and uninspired. the rice dry, the beans a soup. The queso also a bland soup. For dessert they served sopapillas, again unlike any sopapillas I have ever had- more like beignets. Ice cream was just OK- I had honeycomb, which was extrasweet, with nothing crunchy (IDK why- just expected something crunchy in it). Doubt I would go back on my own, but really enjoyed the visit with friends that part was awesome.

Amazing tacos - go now!

By ksw_africa_europe |

We had several different tacos - all delicious! The churros and horchata was a treat for dessert. Very cute exterior decor, but the heat was so much (close to 100 degrees) radiating off Lamar Blvd. We strolled around back and found a little ledge overlooking a grassy area, leading down to a creek with turtles, fish, birds and one random snake who stayed in the water (far away). Across the way, there was a bike path in a Duncan Park. It was a fun little hideaway, something I doubt most tourists would find. It felt 15 degrees cooler out back, so we loved it. The brussel sprouts as a side were delicious too!

Party

By Phil G |

Went to a baby shower. About 40 people. They moved it inside last minute because of the heat. Everything was terrific. Wonderful people, great food. Started with chili queso and guacamole. Plenty to go around. Then drought beans, sweet potatoes, cauliflower and of course chicken. Lots of fresh corn tortillas. Served family style. Awesome.

So-so Mexican Food in Austin...

By BRUIN_SKIIZ |

I was visiting Austin, and Postmates delivery suggested this place for lunch, so I went ahead and ordered a couple things off their menu, to give it a taste and see how "Mexican" food in Austin was done. I ordered an El Rey Taco (which is a brisket taco,) and half a chicken (meal,) and an agua de Horchata. Included with the chicken meal were home made beans and spanish rice. I do like how the Postmates delivery lady added sauces, as that is a prerequisite for Mexican food lol. The taco, to me, was nothing special. The brisket had a weird flavoring to it, it wasn't really soft, you had to really chew into it to get it to digest. To me, you know brisket is good/solid if it melts in your mouth. I mean I know it's not butter (LOL) but good brisket that has been allowed to thoroughly cook should not require much from your teeth, but rather it should just dissolve when it touches your tongue. I don't know, it just didn't have a good taste or texture to it. I definitely wouldn't buy any brisket taco from this place. Out of 5 stars I gave their El Rey Taco 2 stars. Nothing worth writing home about. The chicken meal was cool. I did enjoy that the chicken was tender, not overcooked, juicy, and that it had a good after taste to it. It seems in Austin, a lot of places wrap your meats in butcher paper, as the few places I went to all wrapped my ready-to-eat meats in brown butcher paper. That's a cool local touch. I'm not much into beans/spanish rice, as I am a believer that most restaurants use these two staples as 'fluffer' to just take up space and limit the amount of meat they give you within a taco/burrito (Don't believe me, next time you go to a Mexican restaurant, open your taco/burrito and see how much more beans/rice is in there than meats LOL). Out of 5 stars I gave their chicken 3 solid stars. The Horchata was more or less the variety that is mass manufactured for restaurants, that you add water to syrup and voila, sell that Horchata and mark it up because you want to make people believe it's home made. My mother knows how to make horchata, and so to me, I always make sure I compare any Horchata I buy to hers. Let's just say the horchata here left much to be desired, and you could taste (it was super sweet) the syrup and it didn't have consistency to it. I'd give the Horchata 1 out of 5 stars. The Tortillas appeared to be made "a mano" hand made, so I'll give them 4 stars for that, as they were good. The salsas had a solid kick to them, especially the red one. You could taste the peppers and definitely had a good ratio of seasoning to it to add to the flavor. I'll give them 5 stars for that. Would I return to this place? I mean, if I were in Austin, and I was really hungry, and nothing else was available far as Mexican food, I would. I'd likely only settle for the half chicken meal and some water and call it a day.

Fresh and tasty

By Hunt4game |

We really enjoy dining here a lot. It’s busy during main meal times, but open all day so we usually go after the lunch rush. Chicken off the grill is awesome and both flavors are good. The salads are very good too. We tried the loaded queso this time and liked it. All the sides we’ve tried are good.

Great breakfast

By MangaMan |

I would give five - but am only basing this on several breakfast taco encounters. Outstanding, always a hit with clients. Love the Tomas even though it has avocado and I hate avocado. Client reaction is always very positive. It's more expensive than fast food, and better quality, and takes longer.

Pretty good food!

By timot61 |

Pretty good food here. This place would be a knock out if it had sit down dining. The chicken was moist and tender, with subtle seasoning. The beans are world class, and the rice is top notch too.

One of The BEST!

By 865marnif |

The menu and drinks offered at both Fresa's locations are impeccable! It's only if you can sit to enjoy your meal, go for the Lamar location. Their outdoor area is phenomenal! Amazing food and great service!

Try the El Rey Taco

By Shannon M |

Great fresh tacos, salads & chicken entree dishes. The El Rey taco is my new favorite - super spicy, smokes and flavorful. Their black beans could use some bacon IMO but otherwise tasty. The drive through window server was very friendly and helpful to this first time visitor.

Unexpected Pleasure

By TC F |

Stopped in thinking it was fast food joint and not expecting much. The food is outstanding! Some of the best I've ever had, and make sure you try the home made ice cream.

Great Bar Staff

By Ryan K |

This place is great for families, but also a great bar. The bar staff is knowledgeable and prompt. The drinks are delicious as well as the food. I highly recommend the queso, truly an outstanding dish. Come for fun and great music. The atmosphere is great indoors and outdoors so wherever you sit you’ll have a great experience.

Mediocre food and service

By Laura Marie |

The website claims that people with all food tastes and preferences will find something delicious to eat at Fresa's. The menu is wrong. If you like food that is fresh and not covered in grease, you are better off going someplace else. We ordered a half chicken to share among three people and an assortment of sides, and everything was a little disappointing. The chicken was probably the best part of the meal. It was cooked well and was tender. Everything else was either under or over cooked, seemed reheated, and the fats/oils overpowered the taste of the food. Our waiter was friendly but not exactly attentive. I wouldn't go back.

Don't be fooled by the lack of decor. This place ROCKS!

By Amy C |

Fresca's is a bland building facade. You can walk up to a window or drive thorough. No indoor or outdoor seating that I am aware of. I was instructed by a friend to order the chicken meal with sides. I selected brussel sprouts and grilled cauliflower. Holy Cow these were BOTH amazing. They must marinate and then grill these over some kind of wood chips? The flavor is one that will make you long for more. As for the chicken, it was flavorful, moist and large portions. They will also provide rice, beans and tortillas. I have been back for more vegetables and tacos. Nothing is disappointing. This should be a MUST visit spot for all. There is no inside dining, only to go orders. You can phone in advance orders. Fresca's isn't cheap. The side of vegetables is about $7.00 each but I must say worth every bite.

Pink chicken is a no no

By Nep R |

Cleanliness remains to be desired. And it's simple, chicken cannot be pink when served. They get 2 stars since they got one of the dishes right, but we won't go back there again.

We were expecting better

By Antoine D |

Went there for lunch. The drive thru was a little bit of a wait. We chose the place based on the good reviews and ratio food/price. We had the classic torta, and were disappointed. We were expcting the food to be a bit cheaper. The sandwich was nothing special. We didn't pay attention and went for the chips too, that was not necessary.

Everything was delicious.

By JetsettinDaisy |

Okay, at first I thought the price of the tacos was a bit high; however, the tacos here are quite large. My friend and I ordered one taco each, guacamole, and dessert to split. The guacamole was delicious, the tacos were really really good (I was scooping out the taco fillings with tortilla chips and guacamole), and the salty cajeta ice creamw as so good (especially with that cute cookie). Service was a bit slow; however, we were so busy enjoying our food that we didn't really care. We ate indoors and I'm actually quite glad considering the abundance of birds outside. I will definitely come back next time!

Yummy Take Out

By blondebass1622 |

I had the shrimp tacos and the sweet potatoes which were delicious. Also, the hibiscus iced tea is really flavorful.

Great Tacos!

By josephedward71 |

Very flavorful tacos, all varieties. Corn on the cob is superb. Quick drive thru, nothing fancy, just very good food. Recommended.

Best food we had in Austin!

By amyjw |

I could go on and on about how good this food was! We went to the S First location. It has a beautiful outdoor eating area, but we ate inside. We went there for dinner and thought we probably wouldn't get full because I got the impression it was lighter fare. Boy, was I wrong! We were stuffed! I had a Power Bol and my fiance had the Yucatan Spiced Chicken. We literally didn't even talk for a full 15 minutes because we were so enthralled with our meals! Service was exceptional, too. Our waiter was training a new person. He explained and very politely asked us if we were okay with the trainee taking our order. We don't experience that kind of thing where we live in Ohio! When our chips and salsa were served, the waiter and trainee told us it was on the house because it "took too long" to bring it out. We were confused because it honestly hadn't been 10 minutes. That was no big deal to us, but we were very impressed! We could've eaten here every day of our vacation - it was THAT good!

There are better places in town that serve al carbon

By bluetreefrog |

Nothing great. I've had better al carbon chicken at other places in Austin. If you are in the DT region, I guess there's no other quick & close option.

South First Location Review

By Abby B |

Fresa has an adorable atmosphere - simple & clean inside, cute patio outside. Lots of fun for kids too! Everything we had was great - avocado margarita, original margarita, chips & salsa, guac, shrimp tacos, chicken tacos, ice cream (especially the goat milk option)!! If you are lucky, you might have Matt as your server -- he was so friendly and fun!! We loved Fresa so much we ate there twice in one weekend :)

Lunch

By Sierra K |

I had one of their bowls it was good , chicken adobado (red spicy chicken) South American style flavors. Clean eating spot. This is a drive thru not a dine in spot. The other location are .

Overcharged

By Esther T |

Stopped by to get a quick bite. Asked for a side of guacamole, was charged $8. Asked for 'side' price, got it for $4. That's fine. But looked at bill and kids tacos were priced at $2.89 but was charged $4 for each. Not cool. It's not the $$$, it's the principle. Ripping off customers, not a good business model. BTW- kid tacos were tiny. Will not support this business.

Funky place with great outdoor area

By Gregsky |

Went here recently with some colleagues. I had a 1/4 achiote and citrus chicken, dark meat. Food was fresh and tasty. Service was fast and friendly.

Great grilled Mexican food with a modern twist

By LJMK1 |

Great grilled Mexican food including pork, shrimp, chicken and beef. The margaritas are good. Also, they have char cooked Brussel sprouts and also cauliflower and a couple of good options for a vegetarian. Would of given it a five/five but the last time I was there and got the shrimp, it was a little dry and small for the cost. The chicken and pork were much more moist.

Tasty but overpriced

By jpc36 |

Fresa's Chicken is not a sit-down but a drive-through and window-order place. It features pasture-raised organic wood-grilled birds in two combos. We have eaten 10 of their whole chickens over the past several months. Once the bird was overcooked, i.e. charred and dried out. The sides (grilled vegetables, Mexican street corn, beans, rice, etc) are very good. Fresa's raised its prices a couple of months ago and in so doing priced itself out of my pocketbook. Another local purveyor (Pollo Rico al carbon) with several outlets sells its chicken combos for exactly half the price.

El Rey recommended by Robert Rodriquez!

By JRsNeighbor |

After attending the taping of Jimmy Kimmel and seeing Robert Rodriquez deliver his tacos to the set, we decided to go try. I ordered the El Rey. According to the employee, it's one of his personal favorites. I have to say - It ROCKED! It was one of the best tacos I ever had. I would even go so far to say that it was much better than Torchy's! We ordered a side of brussels sprouts. They were awesome as well and big enough to share. The place is great for a casual quick bite to eat. Make it a must while in Austin.

Unfortunately this was awful

By JDHelm |

It’s been 3 years since I’ve written a review on TA, but I’m coming out of retirement to express how awful this place treated us. I totally understand that times are weird and as a result we offer a fair amount of grace to servers and execution. But this was totally out of line. They told our small kids to get off the rock (because COVID?) and did it in a manner that basically said “don’t bring kids here.” The food was fine, but there are SO many great food trucks in Austin that are WAY better for 1/2 the price. This was the worst food experience we’ve had in a year, and we’ll not return, and neither should you.

New Fresa's on S First ...

By David V |

Love the patio ! Service was very slow ... tacos and chicken were good ... need to improve the guacamole ... topped off dinner with delicious ice cream !

Go Late unless you are bringing children - Great Food

By NewillDB |

We were advised to go after 8:30 if we wanted dinner without all the kids running around - good advice! They have a big play area and it was full on a Friday night. As for the Food - lots of neat and spicy mex-tex type meals. Calabash, Sweet potatoes, beets, and Achiote combined with East Ciders for a great meal for four adults.

Power Bol

By digitalroc |

I drove to Fresa's Chicken al Carbon for dinner, and to my pleasant surprise, game 7 of the ALCS between the Rangers vs Astros was on, so I sat at the bar so I could watch the game. I ordered an Iced Tea and the Power Bol. The Power Bol was good, as I needed some veggies after all the BBQ I had. I then saw the seasonal chicken wings and ordered a 5 piece. The wings looked undercooked so I did not eat and informed the server. The wings were taken off my bill, and I was told that the wings were slow cooked, so the pink was normal. The service was good by all staff who I interacted with.

Sit Down Dinner Quality in a Drive Thru

By Allison |

We stopped at this place as we were looking for some late night eats and had a craving for tacos. We had no idea what we were in for. The tacos were amazing, with some of the best chicken I've had in taco form. Since we were there we decided to get some ice cream and beer to round off the meal. If you are there you have to get the honeycomb ice cream. I think that this experience has pushed honeycomb to the top of my list of favorite ice cream flavors.

Take out or dine in---Fresas is great!

By maryaileen2016 |

There are 3 Fresas locations. 2 are carry out only and the 3rd has a nice dining room with an expanded menu and a bar. We had lunch at one of the carry-outs--two different varieties of the wood-fired chicken tacos, one mild and one spicy, and both were really good! On another evening we tried the dining room location and it was even better. The expanded menu offers more opportunities to taste great Mexican food. Try the avocado Margarita. It sounds weird but is very creamy and quite tasty.

Great but a bit overpriced

By kennydb69 |

My wife and I both really enjoyed our meals, but I think $60 for 2 entrees, a side and a dessert is a lot when you’re basically at a chicken shop. The food is delicious and we could have ordered more judiciously. We’ll definitely be back. I loved the bowl. Service is good and attentive. Nice atmosphere.

Awesome outdoor seating.

By Jon C |

We decided to try this restaurant after the recommendation of an UBER driver. We went there for dinner. The outdoor setting was awesome. We had the Yucatan spiced chicken and the Achiote and Citrus chicken, they were good and tasty. The guacamole was below average. Overall if I'm nearby, it will be in my serious consideration for meal.

Yum!

By Desiree B |

This is one of our "everyone loves" restaurants. We have never ordered anything from Fresa's that we haven't loved. It's that simple.

Amazing Chicken and I love chicken

By eatwelltraveloften18 |

This place makes incredibly delicious flame broiled chicken. It's Mexican style but they manage to cook it so its as delicious and reminds me of Indian chicken tandoori. I am not quite sure how they do this. I loved the sides as well and the prices are great. My only comment is that the salsa and the rice were way too spicy for me. I would have also appreciated if they had some kind of garlic sauce to offer.

New to me

By Robert M |

At the South First location. Yucatan chicken was OK, but watch out for the charro beans unless you really like jalepeno -very spicy. Best taste was the Brussels sprouts; if we go back, it will be for the sprouts. Note: one of the few places on S.1st with lots of parking.

Bummer about the bones !

By Ingridmcq |

Just back from fresas , on Lamar ! Dinned al fresco , ordered the pulled chicken classic Tortas with a Fruta cup . Very fresh and ready in no time ! Nearing the end off my Tortas is when I bit on a freaking, wish bone , kinda freaked me out , is this normal . Fruta cup was fresh as a breeze and zesty to boot . Place was a little messed up on inside not really what's portrayed on their uber cool web site , staff were super friendly . Go , go u won't be sad ya did ! Areas a little ruff , got to meet a lovely guy who was wistfully talking to the moon and the star s , Austins ace , bones and all , Boy .

Comfortable & Yummy

By lacoultah |

Order at least 2 tacos at this friendly, comfortable, and yummy restaurant. Being a yankee, it was so nice to eat outside under the warm lights at a comfortable picnic table in November. Our special guacs were delicious, especially the one with bacon. I enjoyed my taco, but wished I had ordered at least 2 instead of one. My companions loved their tortilla soup. Things were a bit spicy for one in my party, so be cautious.

What a wonderful discovery

By GT65 |

We were on foot, looking for a lovely dinner. After passing on a few overpacked, overly trendy restaurants, we came upon a magical looking place set far back from the street. Looking at the happy faces of customers leaving, we decided to give it a try. Charmed by the clever menu, we ordered a lot, and everything was delicious. You can expect refined Mexican fare (tacos, guacamole, quesadillas, grilled meats), with unexpected, playful ingredients lending texture and earthy notes. The corn tortillas are so good, so the chips and tacos are extra yummy. Both chicken tacos and the shrimp tacos were perfectly balanced. Even a side of roasted beets got the Mexican touch with pepitas and cotija cheese. We enjoyed so much we stayed for homemade ice cream with iconic Mexican dessert flavors, as well as beautiful little sopapillas. Service was attentive, the outside patio was peaceful and tree-canopied, and the music was hip. Folks with dogs and children, singles with a book - all were welcome and comfortable. Inside is clean, modern Mexican - looked great for a date night or an evening with friends.

1st Street Dine in Location

By Orange Crush |

We sat at the bar....all day happy hour...which consists of $2 off drinks and some menu items. The guacamole was excellent and we loved the Achiote citrus chicken platter. Our drinks were delicious, but on the small side. The main drawback to this restaurant is parking, lucky if you find a spot, sent off to search and walk if you don't. Parking can be tricky in this area. If you are there for a takeout order, there are 2 dedicated spaces right by the window.

Nice place to spend some time in the afternoon

By Cindy |

Great place to grab something to eat or just a drink. The outdoor / patio area is amazing, never have seeing something like that, really kid and family friendly. It has a costumed playground and a stage for performances or even an extra area for the kids to play around. The food and drinks are really good. I ordered a steak plate for one person, and the portion was a bit smaller than I expected, but tasted good.

Unexpected deliciousness

By LSW |

We had a family dinner. The chicken was so flavorful and tender. We all wondered how they seasoned it! The oak cauliflower and the Brussel sprouts we also delicious, the sprouts had a dipping sauce that complimented the flavor of grilled vegetables. If you like churros, they make them fresh to order.

Hip and cool if you are a typical local

By m2swim |

Dogs, children, outdoor patio, funky clothing, tiny margaritas. Great if you are 30 with megaloads of disposable, socially responsible spending habits but a bit lost on a group of 60 year olds after a football game. Service was a bit aloof (maybe because we weren't the typical local), food was OK but they must enjoy the profit they make off of their tiny drinks, which tasted like stuff you could have gotten at Chuy's. Maybe we shouldn't have listened to the 30 year old that suggested us to go there...

Great place

By Phil G |

Here with large family group including two babies. Casual setting, great food. Tried most things on the menu. Liked them all.

My go to - to go meal!

By luvplayacar |

Headed to a friend's house and didn't feel like cooking. So I grabbed the family pack for dinner via the drive thru. What a hit! It's the most tender, juicy, tasty chicken with fresh, delicious sides. Don't miss the crisp apple guacamole! And we grabbed the margarita mix made from fresh squeezed limes and agave to make our evening even better! Viva la Fresa's!!! ( I love their new location so much that I dined there twice in one weekend!)

definite ADD for a taco crawl

By swop |

The carry-out only place on S. Lamar is still better than the newer one on S First. Go for tacos - they use the grilled chicken in three different tacos that are all good. We put it on the list of places when visitors come for a "taco crawl" and follow it with a tour of the graffiti park that's only a couple of blocks west. Good - and very different from the standards.

Very Nice place to eat

By Curtis J |

This is for the South First Location. Came here for lunch and had really nice outdoor seating with some large trees for shade cover. My wife and I have the bowls for lunch, she had the super bowl and I had the Power bowl. We both loved our bowls and it was fulfilling, made you full but light in the stomach. We would be planning another trip to this restaurant in the future as the other dishes seems to read really good on the menu and would like to try the other dishes. I would recommend this restaurant to others when in the Austin area.

A super great spot!

By tigreyez |

This place has a very relaxed casual atmosphere with some wonderful outdoor areas. The restaurant is pleasant, clean, and great for families. The walk up window is a nice touch for those just swinging in for a 'to go' bite. Most importantly. the food is outstanding! The only downside to all the great things about Fresa's is frankly the cost of cocktails and the small-ish food portions. You cant complain about the quality and taste of the food so you will probably grin and bear the cost of drinks. The chicken here is outstanding especially the Achiote and Citrus version. The Squash Blossom Quesadilla is unusual and delish. Some great sides to try is the Mexican Street Corn (totally legit) and the Brussel Sprouts. You wont be disappointed! Go and Enjoy -

Delish and legit

By Alicia C |

I actually thought this place was just a chicken joint. I was very wrong- they have amazing coffee, drinks, and food! Service was excellent and the decor was great! Excited to go back when they add their brunch menu!

Best Fast Food in Town!

By DLPAustin |

Expensive fast food (compared to Taco Cabana or Whataburger) but terrific grilled achiote chicken 2-4 people. Wonderful Mexican street corn. We love their tacos and classic torta as well. Meals come with rice and beans, hot sauce, grilled jalapeno and onions. A take-out staple at our house!

Delicious food

By David B |

On our recent visit to Austin we walked here because it was recommended by the Airbnb where we stayed. We had tacos and they were quite delicious. I would love to try other items on their menu. No tables here so you either eat on a bench, carry out, or drive through.

OK Chicken, ok sides !

By Siam-Orchids |

Went there based on Andrew Zimmern's list. Sorry Andrew, but it's not on mine. Food was ok, nothing special. We had a half chicken and some sides, but nothing was really outstanding.

Flavor at the Heart of the Chicken!

By MALDRIDGERN |

Okay, I am really impressed by this place. It is a locally-owned restaurant on Lamar between 9th and 10th streets. The food: -We got the achiote citrus chicken (not too spicy) and the fresh oregano chicken (a little sweet) that was moist and the flavor of the marinade gets all the way through the meat, not just the first bite. Man, it was some awesome chicken! And the grilled onions that came with the chicken were so sweet. Yum! -The charro beans are great, with some spice but not too much. The rice is pretty good, with some mixed veggies in it. -The mexican street corn is little sections of corn on the cob (about 3 inches or so) that have white cheese, garlic, and oregano (I think?). Messy to eat but oh so good. -The tortillas and salsa make it easy to make tacos out of these ingredients. I would definitely go back here, and I'm excited to see they serve breakfast as well. I'm always in search of a good breakfast taco, so they will be on my list to try soon.

Fresa's - South First - Fun place, good margaritas and good food!

By CR0306CR |

We had queso and some margaritas. The queso was super good with fresh chips. I loved that the margaritas were small (but mighty)

Moderately good food

By Lynnmaui |

The decor is clean and contemporary. They have a nice outdoor patio with a good kids play space. The service was mediocre,we had to ask for plates for the appetizers, for salsa(1 sm. Dish for 8 of us,never refilled) for the chips and to have our water decanters refilled. The chicken wings were meaty and pleasantly spicy, the queso w/chorizo was good, but, the portion quite small. The taco with brisket was my favorite, the shrimp one was pretty bland, they were priced individually and small. The Brussels sprouts and beet salads were quite nice, but,not generous as listed"for sharing"portions. The ice cream was just OK and the sopapillias were too heavily coated in powdered sugar, but, otherwise ok. They were accompanied by 3 dipping sauces. The raspberry was the best. I thought the prices were high for what we got. Our bill with tip was $292.00 which included 8 alcoholic beverages,1 child's entree and 1 just sharing what we all had.

Delicious Chicken!

An amazing walk-up/take away restaurant! We ordered a ton of food to go. Everything was delicious, especially the brussels sprouts and chicken tacos! Highly recommend!

MUY, MUY BUENO

I visited Fresa's a week ago just to try a taco or two - I was really interested in the El Presidente that was made in honor of our President Obama, but I decided to go simple and ordered the La Fresa with achiote chicken, avocado, cotija cheese, white onion (sauteed), cabbage and cilantro. The tortilla was surely homemade and unlike any I've ever had - delicate and light. This was even amplified with the tortilla chips - surely made from the same luscious tortillas. The mini order of chips and guac were more than a mini taste! The guac is properly chunky and bright with lime and cotija cheese on top. I love this place and will be returning again soon!!

Good not Great

Everything about this place tells me that they're doing things right, it just doesn't come together properly. The food was good, the space is very nice, great lighting, great services. I was just a bit let down and can't quite put my finger on why. You'll be satisfied with your night here, probably not wow'd though

Different and wonderful tastes

I’ve not eaten at a latin restaurant quite like Fresa’s. The menu is different with combinations that one does not often see. It works well, and it’s delicious. Lunchtime is busy and a little noisy, not good for quiet talk. The food is worth it!

Overpriced and not very good

My 1/4 chicken was not quarter chicken. The sides that came with it hold about 3 spoonfulls. Not very good.

Muy Bueno!

Stay-at-Home Order had started and we headed to the best place to purchase a whole rotisserie chicken + meal. This Fresa’s Chicken al Carbon location is only takeout which mades it easy for us. We just parked in front walked up and ordered. You can order online too. I decided on the Achiote & Citrus chicken and the whole meal comes with corn tortillas, charro beans, Mexican rice, grilled onions, marinated jalapeño, and salsas. We just wait a few minutes and was handed out food to us. It was very quick and gave the staff a nice tip. At home I disassembled the packaging and organized it all. The chicken was cut in pieces. You can either eat it separately or build your own chicken tacos. The chicken was fantastic with tasty spices and marinated just right. The sides are unbelievable good and reminded me of my grandmother’s cooking. All of it was wonderful. This meal fed us for two days.

Yummy lunch/snack at this drive through!

We were driving around downtown in Austin, and that in itself was entertainment. The name Fresa's caught my eye, so decided we would give it a try. My salad was really good and my friend had sort of a torta with some pork in it. It tasted good ( a little too much fat on the pork), and we shared a side of beans/rice. Everything was quite good, however, they did not offer us any flatware (which we didn't realize until after we had driven away)! Salad and beans/rice are definitely not finger foods!!

Brussel Sprout great!

Excellent Tex-Mex menus. We especially enjoyed the Brussels Sprouts and the Cauliflower. The tacos are great with lots of options.

Disappointed

Bad start with dirty glass. However chips and green salsa were really yummy. Ordered the achiote chicken and ahi-glazed prawns. Meals were served cold/lukewarm. Flavor was average to good but really should have arrived at least warm. Needless to say, we were really disappointed. Least favorite place in Austin.

I could have eaten at Fresa's for all our meals in Austin. We had tacos and the light & fresh guac with jicama and green apple sprinkled on top. I also really enjoyed my smoked Paloma! Thanks, Fresa's!
