Can not wait to go back!

By zrolf |

Without a doubt, some of the best seafood I have ever had, & I live in the Florida Keys. Everything was cooked to perfection, with the perfect amount of spices. It is super casual, but the food is as good or better than anything I have had in many an upscale restaurant for a whole lot more money. We both walked out going,WOW, I can not believe how good that was. If you are anywhere near south Miami, you really should hunt down FreshCo & check it out. Again, it is not a fancy sit-down place. You order at the counter & eat at a counter along the side wall or at one of the small tables, but you absolutely can not beat the food at all. We can not wait to go back!!

Excellent food and great service !!!!!! The snapper, hogfish, conch fritter, grilled octopus and the key lime were all delicious.

The restaurant has great possibilities but falls short

By skodemiami |

I had lunch here with hopes of finding a good local seafood restaurant. The had a brisk business and a nice presentation of seafood in the display case. Ordering is at the counter. The menu was very limited. They had conch in the display, but were unwilling to cook it for a meal. I settled on one of my favorite meals, deep fried shrimp and fish ceviche. Drinks are fountain sodas and canned or bottled soft drinks. You have to sit on a stool at counter on the wall. The waitress brought the shrimp before the ceviche appetizer. They have home made sauces, but they are nothing special. The cilantro sauce was green, but had no flavor. The shrimp had a strange flour breading and tasted burnt. It really detracted from the good flavor from the shrimp. As for the ceviche, I opted for the lime-based marinade and declined the addition of hot sauce. For me, hot sauce is added to hide and undesirable flavor. The ceviche finally arrived with an abundance of red onions, a piece of sweetpotato, corn on the cob and deep fried plantain strips. The corn had no flavor and plantain strips were nothing special. I did not try the sweetpotato. There was a large portion of fish, corvina. Unfortunately, the marinade had no flavor. It was a type of lime water. I was really disappointed and will never return.

Restaurant has possibilities but was disappointing

Restaurant is located in a strip mall in West Kendall. The seafood part of the market was impressive with a nice assortment of fresh fish and seafood. Our visit to the restaurant portion of the business was disappointing. You order at the counter and food is brought to your table. Food is served on aluminum trays with no dishes. Plastic utensils are provided at two locations in the store. We had grilled octopus, mussels, calamari and shrimp smothered in a spicy sauce. The flavor of the sauce overpowered the seafood. The mussels were large and excellent. The octopus was disappointing. Available beverages are primarily bottled. For these prices, better presentation of the food is warranted.

Hidden gem in Kendall

By stazandgazer |

When we travel we usually look for seafood markets for causal good eats. FreshCo Fish Market & Grill was the first place we stopped for a meal in the Miami area. Who would have thought fresh seafood was so delicious in the middle of Kendall? Owner even recommended a couple of places to try in Key West. The fried seafood platter including fried mussels in the shell was one of the best we've had. It was big enough for two. The blackened mahi mahi salad also made a fine lunch. We tried fried conch for the first time and thought it was good, but then we had better ones down on the Keys. Overall, great little place!

Hidden Gem!

By Kelly V |

Fresh and amazing fish. Best fish nuggets (ordered for my kids) that I’ve ever had in the United States. I had the Snapper Oscar which was just wonderful. Super fresh fish. As tasty as any other fancy restaurant but at a fraction of the price. I couldn’t believe how quiet it was. There will be a line out the door as soon as people discover this place.

A must visit seafood market and grill

By Cynthiab145 |

We had the conch fritters, crab cakes, grilled tuna, hogfish filets and the most fabulous octopus, mussels and shrimp in a brown butter sauce that I could eaten alone with a spoon!!

Stopped on the way to the airport, great surprise!

By my4sparks |

Recently on my way for a flight out of MIA with friends and was looking for a fresh seafood dinner before we arrived to the airport. Searched for restaurants on the way and came across this restaurant and figured, why not give it a shot? So happy we did, the experience was fabulous! Upon arrival the owner greeted us warmly, noticing that we were obviously traveling through town, and sat us at a comfortable table by the window. We also had a nice view of the fresh fish case. The kitchen staff showed off all of their fresh fish that had just been put out for display. We ordered sandwiches, salads and platters. The food came out super quick, was presented beautifully and tasted even better! Would recommend this restaurant to travelers and locals alike!

Fabulous seafood treat!

Amazing Fresh Fish Made Right

By MtBikeTX |

This is as good as it gets. The selection of fresh fish was amazing and it was very hard to decide what to have. There was a great selection of daily specials along with an amazing menu. The fish is all there for you to see, choose if you would like it grilled, blackened or fried. I got a fried hog fish which had a delicious meaty texture to it. The fry was very light and did not retain any grease. I also had fried plantains as my side where were excellent and a great accompaniment to the fish. I want to come back with someone and share a fried whole snapper and many of the other items on their menu. They use all of there space wisely here, but I am sure it could be crowded. Everyone was really good about eating and heading out to open up the tables.

Paradise Found for Seafood Lovers!

Paradise Found for Seafood Lovers……. Wow ! Surprise! It’s True… Best Seafood in Miami Pleasantly surprised to find this gem of a restaurant in the heart of Kendall . Paradise found for seafood lovers. We ordered the Grouper Sandwich on our first visit to test the waters…. Yes we watched as they hand selected the fresh Grouper and then waited as it was prepared to our request…then …. My oh My….. the bite of perfection blending fresh prepared Grouper with their secret sauce. A pop of flavor with cook to order fresh fish. It does not get better! Well, we decided to enjoy another taste of freshness and went for dessert … We ordered Key Lime Pie. Yes we did! A pie full of deliciousness with that famous key lime tart bite on a bed of light crispy and crunchy crust. For a mouth-filled moment; we were transported to the keys. If you are wanting the best fresh seafood experience without that long long looooong drive to the keys; itā€s right here in the heart of Kendall. You will be pleasantly surprised!

OMG!!!

By Fernando A |

Best kept secret in Kendall!!! The most amazing fresh, cooked while you wait, seafood! Ceviche made to order in front of you while you wait...I had a Mahi Mahi cheese steak sub that was out of this universe!! friendly service and fair prices, all fish is caught daily by the owners

THIS is seafood at its finest with a wonderful, casual atmosphere

By Voyage15534204088 |

OMG! Everything was so fresh and so delicious!! The staff (Natalie) were very attentive and thorough and quick. The Conch fritters might be some of the best on planet Earth. Perfection on the spice and the crisp, and no mushy inside. I want more! The menu is just beautiful and the choices are vast. Get the hogfish!! Also, get something with the junkanoo sauce. It is rich and yummy and unique and unforgettable. Because everything on the menu is tempting, our family decided we would each order something and then share. Brilliant b/c it was all spectacular. I had the lobster oscar and it was loaded with crabmeat. Even the sides are great. You can't find tostones everywhere and these were just right (and huge!). It's a casual restaurant which I love; feels like you're sitting down with family. GO!!

Fantastic hidden gem in Kendall

By Richiebling |

I stumbled on this place quite by accident and let me tell you something the food is fantastic the fried snapper was awesome the mahi bowls were fantastic We did not do an appetizer We didn’t need it but I’ll definitely try to fish dip or something like that I will definitely be returning a lot to this Resturant Cooked to order so bring a beer or 2 while you wait Whoever visits would always visit again

Exceptional Seafood, very reasonable prices

By MiamiMan42 |

Found this spot on TripAdvisor. I've lived in Miami going on 30 years, and had NO IDEA this place existed. Here's the deal: its a NO Frills spot. It is not Fine Dining with cloth linen and a posh wait staff. It IS some of the best seafood you'll find in Miami, at very reasonable prices. I will be visiting this place at least once a month. What a hidden jewel!

Amazing little place

By Donna DeWitt |

We had a wonderful dinner. Just passing through. My only regret was that we are from SW Florida and probably won't be back, only because we don't live near by. Doesn't get any fresher than eating at this place. Excellent food and as fresh as it gets. I had the shrimp stuffed crab cakes. Two huge cakes with lots of whole shrimp. Husband had the fresh catch, which was snapper. They clean the fish when you order!!! It's a fish market with tables inside and out. I don't need a restaurant with ambiance. This food was amazing.

How fresh? Very, very fresh

By JBlanc197 |

Recently opened, I was made aware of this small out of the way place by word of mouth. It is in a small strip shopping in a residential area. You have to go looking for it to find it, but it is worthwhile. On my first visit, I noticed that the majority of the space is devoted to glass refrigerated cases filled with fish and seafood. They are very serious about the freshness of their fish and seafood. They are fish and seafood distributors who are entering into the world of retail. They are very friendly, greeting everyone as they enter. The menu is fish heavy and the specials depend on what comes in daily. When I saw hog fish on the specials menu, I was instantly hooked. It was available in a sandwich or in a full plate. I opted for the sandwich. It can be ordered fried or grilled. We ordered one of each. They come in a brioche style but, with lettuce and tomato and accompanied with french fries, in a basket. The size of the fish is such that it goes far beyond the border of the bun. It is fun eating the edges without anything and getting the true flavor of the fish. The fish was incomparably fresh and flaky. Cooked perfectly to the edge. More, would dry it out, less would leave it translucent and gummy. These were perfect. Flaky, juicy and fresh. A perfect fish sandwich. They have a house sauce that is something of a hybrid between a tartar sauce and a cocktail sauce. You won't need anything else. At a price way below $15.00 it is a bargain. The first time, I also had the fish sandwich, but with snapper and as a blt. That comes with cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato. That was great also, but is quite heavier, although it appears to be the most popular on the menu. The crab cakes are full of white crab meat with little or no filler, and are grilled. The combination of the crab with the house sauce is out of this world. Do yourself a favor and look for this place, it is that good. The only negative, if you can call it that, is that the place has no tables, it does have stools lining a long wall, where you can eat on a counter. I hope it becomes a neighborhood fixture since they know how to handle and cook the most delicate of meats. It is rare to find a place that has fresh fish and seafood, that knows how to best cook it and all for a low price. Finally, truth in advertising, FreshCo is true to its name. You can't beat that with a stick. I'm coming back, and back and back, if they'll have this usually grumpy critic.

Amazingly fresh!

Superb fresh food. Workers so pleasant and helpful. Only wished we lived near there so we could enjoy it more often. We got the grouper sandwich and the grouper salad!

Excellent fresh seafood

Absolutely fresh seafood. The fried calamari and the crab cakes were perfect. The seafood paella was great. The Groupa and Octopus Junkanoo was excellent. The people running the place were very friendly. A place not to be missed.

Good food poor service

By Andre O |

Good food, they don’t have waiters on this location, you need to order at the cashier. Service is extremelly confuse, we order three plates, party of three. We have each one at every 10 minutes. A lot of space to improve.

Kendall is now better place to live

By Joeluba |

Ok, this is a gem!! Think of the Garcias or la Camaronera but in Kendall. The seafood is fresh, prices fair overall amazing!! Had hog fish, bingo. The fried squid and fried shrimp a must have! The ceviche is amazing. Sssshhhh, U can bring your own wine or beer. And the best key lime pie outside of Joes and Fish house in Key Largo. I will at least once a week. That good

Please...Don't miss it!!

By Oscar |

Great and fresh seafood. The best in Kendall. Exellent service in this small and no frills market and restaurant. Junkanoo Octopus delicious. Order at the cashier as well as price, not a problem at all.

totally unexpected find

By Diane A |

firstly, this is a real fish market with incredibly knowledgeable people behind the counter who are also chefs and can suggest how to use the beautiful fish, mostly whole (they fillet and clean), you see before you secondly, it's a modest eat-in at counters or take-out place, simple decor, spotlessly clean, thirdly, the food. i had the cilantro blanco ceviche, an endless bowl of incredibly fresh and tasty ceviche, with string potatoes, sweet potato chunk and a bit of corn on the cob. my friend and i shared the conch fritters...delightful, but the ultimate praise goes to the crab bisque...more chowderlike than creamy-filled, with a sublime taste. i almost hate to give a really good review as they might get too busy...but these folks earn a 10 stars in my book

Fresh Fresh Fresh.........

By oscarf0809 |

Freshco is a family owned Fish Market / Restaurant hidden away in Kendall but is easily accessible. The owner Mario, takes friendliness to the next level My wife and I went by yesterday afternoon and saw they were closing in 5 minutes, I asked the question if they would serve us and Mario with no hesitation answered he would never turn anyone away So on to the food. Our appetizer was Conch Fritters which by far the best ive had. My wife had the Lobster Sandwich which was a Tail deep fried with fixings amazing. I had the deep fried Lobster which was a first for me and have to say baked lobster is over rated. The Market looked extremely fresh, but must confess I did not make a purchase at the end of dinner as I felt bad they remained open for me I'm definitely looking forward not only to purchase from the Market, but to also taste the different dishes they offer Pricing was very fair And the best part of Freshco is their 1/2 a mile from my house

Do yourself a favor and try this place!

By Vivian B |

If I could give them 10 stars I would. This place opened up not that long ago near my print shop. We have ordered several times for lunch and everytime we order something different and have never been disappointed. What a great find! Fresh seafood, great pricing and service. Do yourself a favor and come try them for yourself. It is not a fancy place but the food is on point. Amazing from start to finish

Right place for sea food

Great service, great people... everything was fresh, high quality ingredients, not to mention the fusion in flavors was outstanding. Living in Key West and eating fresh sea food right from the ocean makes you think that you can’t eat any better, well this place would change your mind, highly recommended! šŸ™ŒšŸ»

nice meal

By Hector E |

Don't expect a big, plush fancy 5 star restaurant in the traditional cense but it's good fresh seafood cooked just right. if you live near by as we do it's become our neighborhood seafood place. we walk there and walk it off going back home. Definately worth the visit, we will be back and will recommend to our friends. The service is nice, family restaurant you can tell they want to serve and care for the quality.

Delicious food, great customer service, atmosphere, and value

We had an extremely enjoyable late lunch at FreshCo. Fish Market & Grill on a Saturday afternoon. The place was busy (around 4PM) but we were able to grab a table right away. FreshCo. is counter service for ordering, and food is brought to your table. The vibe is very casual but it’s obviously very high quality, as evidenced by the delicious-looking options of seafood showcased as soon as you walk through the door. I ordered the whole Red Snapper, as I really wanted to try a whole fish on our trip to Florida. I was asked how I would like it cooked, and I said however it was recommended, so they grilled it. The whole Snapper came with a choice of two sides, so I went with sweet potato fries and a salad. My significant other chose the Shrimp Philly Sandwich and fries. Our food took a little time to arrive, but good things come to those who wait! The kitchen is open and right behind the counter, so you are able to see some of the cooking happening, which is pretty cool. A lot of the staff (including chefs) were women – awesome to see! Our food came out nice and hot, and the portions were good for the price, especially seafood in the Miami area. The Snapper was fantastic, and exactly what I was hoping for. The salad and sweet potato fries were great too. My significant other really enjoyed the Shrimp Philly Sandwich; I tried a bite and was impressed as well. You wouldn’t necessarily think shrimp and cheese would be good together, but it was excellent! The regular fries were good as well, with a nice bit of breading for some extra crispy-ness. I would highly recommend FreshCo. Fish Market & Grill! Do yourself a favor and check it out for delicious food, great customer service, atmosphere, and value. If we lived in the area I would be going back soon, as the menu had a large variety of fantastic sounding options.

Sensational

By KCupp |

We found this place because it was close to our hotel. We went back for more the next evening. Everything is fresh and flavorful. We enjoyed the Caribbean salmon, blackened yellowfin tuna, blackened mahi-mahi, and the salad served with a lime vinaigrette. Portions are generous but we still ordered dessert to go. Key lime pie & bread pudding are outstanding and made in house! Special thanks to the owners & the cashier who went out of their way to greet us & make both our evenings extra special. Fresh-Fresh-Fresh

By Trippintone |

Stopped by fish a mahi sandwich and fries just to check the place out. The first thing I noticed was the display cooler with seafood. All the seafood looked very fresh. Once my mahi sandwich arrived I started with a couple fries. The fries are exceptional. Not the run of the mill frozen fried here you go. The sandwich was also delicious. They were "IMO" very generous with the portion I received. I will be heading back to try more of the menu and purchase some fresh seafood to take home.

Good but not great. Will try again

By Stephanie Rogers de Almeida |

We went here to pick up a late lunch to go. The place was super busy. The fish market section had great fresh fish. The tuna and snapper looked fresh and amazing. I wish I could say the same for the food. We got the crab cakes which didn’t have any lump crab and seemed to consist mostly of filling. We also got the fried seafood combination which had shrimp, fish, calamari, etc. The wait was well over an hour. While waiting the couple next to us had their fried fish come but it was the wrong fish they ordered. We got our crab cakes on a plate but our order was to go. They said we could eat those while we waited. They restaurant didn’t have to do that, but we were starving and it was greatly appreciated. The food really looked great when it came but underneath the food it was extremely oily. The food had no flavor and no seasoning. The sauce that comes with the crab cakes is a bit of a mismatch. A little kick of mustard would have helped. Maybe because it was super busy they weren’t up to the prior reviews I’ve seen. I will give it another try. I really don’t like giving a mediocre review after people have raved about it. Prices are comparable for fish market rates.
