A Nice Place for Dinner and Drinks

By Paul |

Some friends, my wife and I visited G Love this past week and had a lovely time. We walked in on the spur of the moment and sat at the bar, which turned out to be perfectly fine. We shared a couple of appetizers, some nuts and a basket of still-warm bread. The two ladies in our party had salads as entrees. They were huge and, by all accounts, delicious. My male companion had a sandwich while I ordered the trout. Everyone received their entrees as expected, but the trout disappeared somewhere in the kitchen. When the bartender realized I was still waiting, he went to the kitchen, A few minutes later, I had not one but two orders of trout, both of which I ate happily. The drinks were terrific and the ambiance very much to our liking. My chief criticism of this restaurant is that the menu had too few options that appealed to me.

Our Favorite Restaurant in Portland

By Tom S |

This is our favorite restaurant in Portland, and it's one of the main reasons why we stay in a hotel in the neighborhood. The menu has many healthy, delicious & innovative options; and the staff is always excellent! Even the bathrooms are always clean and attractive.

Bad Experience tonight.

By Maria B |

4 of us, ordered the tasting menu at $75/pp. Everything good until the last entree- main course- Salmon dish $26. What happened. After we had finished off several veggie dishes, our plates and utensils cleared from table, we assumed dessert was next. We were given new plates and spoons so yes expecting desserts. All of the sudden a Salmon entree appears. We have no forks and think there must be mistake. Then a few seconds later, three desserts appear! I asked if the salmon plate was ours and the waiter said yes. I then ask our head waitress what’s up, we basically have no proper utensils to eat salmon and desserts are here at the same time. She said there was a confusion with the kitchen — NO APOLOGY. While we should have returned the desserts and had the salmon first, we couldn’t think this fast and unfortunately returned the salmon instead. We really felt cheated out of the main and most expensive entree. And still no apology or at least taking a glass or two off the bill. Bad business. Really disappointed at their lack of professionalism and proper customer service. Had the waitress even apologized and taken off a glass of wine, we would have felt better. Instead we left without tasting the main entree and still had to pay for it and received o apologies from the staff.

Trendy veggie focused restaurant

Trendy veg forward restaurant. We sat outside in what was called the ‘greenhouse’ area. Food was great - crunch crisp salad, skewers, bruschetta and crispy avocado. Strawberry kombucha was also delicious. Service was friendly. Yummy flan mini complimentary dessert.

Dinner with friend

By WWTraveler27 |

Excellent northwest cuisine. Small dishes made for a great dinner with a friend. Some northwest Pinot noir 🍷was a tasty addition. The service was all over it and the atmosphere was great as the sunset up here about 9:30 10:00 this time of year. Would strongly reecomend giving this place a try.

Best meal I had in Portland

By Erin74 |

Spent four days in Portland seeing all the things and eating all the things. Portland is a great city for food, and G Love was my #1 favorite dining experience. It's a lively restaurant with a fun crowd and upbeat music, and the food is the real deal. I asked my server about a couple of menu items, and she pretty much insisted I needed to order the Ensalata Bomba salad. I did, and was stunned by the absolute gorgeousness of the plate that was set in front of me. One of the most memorable salads of my life? Absolutely. The flavor was fantastic, and the texture was something special. I highly recommend it. The portion is very large, so split it with someone. The fried chicken was also good -- the avocado ranch elevates this dish-- and I enjoyed the Milk Chocolate dessert. Really, the Ensalata Bomba was the star of the evening, and you've got to order it when you visit G Love.

Excellent meal!

I can’t believe how delicious everything was here. You must have the crusted avocado (be dilute to add the tuna) and the elote toast but everything was fresh and really delicious. Fabulous service and a nice outdoor table made for a perfect dinner. Stop your research - make a reservation here. Enjoy!

Fabulous Food

Very fun restaurant with exciting dishes. We went for the chefs choice ($75 each) and we thought it was well worth it. There wasn’t one dish that we didn’t like. I told the waitress how much I liked the sesame seeds on the avocado and they gave me a small container to take home 😆 The chocolate popcorn dessert was a perfect ending to our meal. Everyone who worked there was friendly. Also, check out the bathrooms.

Dinner with Family

Second dinner with family at G Love. Surpassed my first experience. For your first time I suggest two maybe three small plates per person. You can always add on. However you definitely need to leave room for dessert.

Happy, Hip and Delicious!

By Kay G |

We had the most wonderful dinner experience in Portland. The playlist was awesome and atmosphere hip and cheerful. The open concept decor let all witness the Happy Hells Kitchen operation with many of the chefs dancing as they cooked. The food was fresh and fantastic! The service was Exceptional! We especially loved the cherry tomatoes, heirloom toast , bucatini and fried chicken. My husband is vegan and they easily accommodated so he too could enjoy many of the dishes. Terrific find and we will return soon.

Vegetables Star at Reverse Steakhouse

By poster@easystreet.net |

G-Love is Portland's first ever ‘Reverse Steakhouse’ where vegetables are straight from the farm, harvested at their peak and take center stage while proteins are served as side dishes. Chef/Owner Garrett Benedict comes from a background with several Michelin starred restaurants. I visited recently with four friends (one vegan and one vegetarian). We ordered a lot of dishes, everything sounded so good. The waiter was super, he went through the menu with my vegan friend pointing out what she could eat suggesting dishes where they could put cheese on the side for the rest of us. For starters we had the Crusty Avocado covered with a wonderful coco-blackspice seed mix, marbled potatoes served with several dipping sauces including a super citrus trout roe, and a mix of wild mushrooms. That was followed by a superb carrot dish, a burnt cabbage cesar salad, a wild greens salad, a tuscan bean stew. For dessert we sampled everything including a milk chocolate caramel popcorn thing that was fantastic. The whole meal was just super. The space is lovely, the service perfect. Recommend very highly

best restaurant in Portland so far

By Thomas K |

We sat outside in the covered outdoor patio. Food presentation was spot on, and everything sang. I don't normally eat desserts but my partner wanted a second glass of wine so I had the toasted milk crumble and even on a full stomach it was absurdly good. The steak, trout, and yellowtail crudo were all fantastic. On the bucatini, just be aware that it's a bit heavy--the pasta almost felt like a main course. I tend to not like brussel sprouts but these were scrumptious. Five plates plus dessert for the two of us left us very happy and wanting to come back.

Blew us away

This is a special place. Im not sure how to describe it. So unique. So flavorful. Terrific service. Just go. I cant wait to go back to PDX and visit G Love again!

wouldn't do twice

By LLD2215 |

We went here on our first nite in Portland for dinner. I would say it was my least favorite meal of the 5 nights. Not bad, but nothing outstanding and there were 6 of us ordering. It was lively and you seemed to need reservations. Next door to a popular ice cream store. It just wouldn't be a rotation of places I needed to go to for dinner with all the great dining spots in the city

Heavenly good

By Reign68 |

Such a great place to eat with very chic tasty food. I could taste the Chef’s passion for food. Try their own house salad with almonds cheese just exploded in your mouth. The fresh beets with goat cheese , scallop and beef skewers were bomb.the service was excellent. I’ll visit again once I go back to Portland

Cool place with focus on vegetarian dishes

By Anders G |

This is a very different place with the cool atmosphere and fantastic food. Most of the dishes are vegetarian made incredibly well. Service was flawless and it was overall a very nice experience. I can highly recommend this place.

Why haven't you discovered this place?

By PdxMarc |

Four of us worked our way through much of the menu at G Love last night, absolutely adored it an still got out with a rink each and tip for $75 a person. Virtually everything was superb, and the few things that weren't were solid. Among the mere good were the chicken, which was nicely crunchy but even with the avocado ranch didn't rise to the level of other dishes, and the bavette steak which, again, while tasty was nothing new. Virtually everything else was simply amazing. Kudos in particular to the crispy avocado (get it with the tuna) and the asparagus plate. But the gold medals go to the yellowtail crudo with charred broccoli and the ribbolita, a bean stew with such complexity and depth of flavor we were all gasping about it. The restaurant is lively without being to noisy and clearly has been discovered by the immediate neighborhood of new apartment buildings (note, parking is near impossible!). Where are the rest of you?

Simply stunning in all ways!

By TravelingDee |

The most beautifully presented & tasty, creative cuisine around! You won't believe how elevated everything that is served tastes, especially all the fresh seasonal vegetables. Like it was picked that day (and probably was, as chef works with a local farm!) Your mind will be blown - GO! GO! GO! Oh, and the mixologists are just as crazy creative with stunning concoctions - GO! GO! GO! And everyone is SO NICE, PROFESSIONAL, and care about your experience! GO! GO! GO!

Feeling the love at G LOVE

By Global Flavors and Journeys |

The smaller portions and family style made it perfect for sharing dishes and exploring the menu. The menu is diverse and offered something for everyone. The downtown feel was perfect on a cool evening. The heated tent was flexible. They had opened it for this evening, which made it feel like open air dining. Our server was helpful, added suggestions and great! Feel like continuing the love.. check out The Love Shack next door. Small cocktail bar.. from the G Love team.

hip new restaurant

By rfrueh |

every dish we had was very nice, perfectly seasoned and we liked that the focus was on the vegetables and meat was just a side dish, the Hanger steak was a bit too chewy though. We did not appreciate that plates were being cleared the second you are taking the last bite and you are still chewing.

Delicious - A must try!

By Kim L |

This was my first time at G Love and I was not disappointed! The space is lively with good happy energy and service. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. One thing to be aware of is that the Vegan and Vegetarian dishes take center stage here. The protein options are more like the sides. But don't be discouraged by that. The portions are good sized and even a carnivore will walk away satisfied! The cocktails are great too. The only drawbacks are that it is on the loud side and parking can be a challenge with all the construction still going on around there. I recommend to Uber or Lyft if possible. On another note be sure to peak into both bathrooms for a fun surprise!!

Rude server made for a terrible experience.

By Delmar06 |

Menu is small and not very inventive. Friends and I ordered several dishes and they were all average and overpriced for the quality and portion size. Cocktails were ok. Major let down was the service. Our server was extremely condescending (short south Asian female). She made passive aggressive remarks every time she interacted with my table (of 4). We all work in the industry so we found it insulting how she treated us. The host team and food runners were very polite and welcoming but the server was rude, cold, and curt. Wouldn’t recommend with so many better options in PDX!

Chef/owner right in the mix of things!

By sq1944 |

This gem has the freshest food on small plates, so the portions are not overwhelming. The cherry heirloom tomato salad with dollops of mozzarella and fresh basil had little crunchies on it, and small basil leaves. Absolutely delish. The chef/owner is highly visible and is actively involved in the presentation of every plate.

Well Known Neighborhood Gem

Fabulous and innovative food. Server provided great overview of the menu. Food Selection is diverse, something for every palate.

Delicious and Inventive!

By Jan S |

We really enjoyed our meal at G Love. The restaurant is lively, (a bit loud but fun), modern and stylishly casual. The food is really wonderful with the emphasis on highlighting vegetables with protein/meats taking a secondary role. The portions are small but beautifully presented and everything we had was delicious. If you like to have large portions of food, this is not for you, but if you appreciate well prepared flavorful bites you should try this. The yellowtail crudo was fantastic. The cauliflower dish was so good we almost ordered it again but decided to try another dish. They also had plenty of interesting cocktails, wines and beers to choose from. Our server was very nice, as was everyone else we encountered.

Delicious, creative food - lovely place!

By Kristin C |

Outstanding food and professional, well-timed service: our server clearly explained plates are designed for sharing, guided us on appropriate order for 4 people, and drinks arrived promptly with small starters coming right away. Other plates snd wine followed at good pace. Tastes were varied and elegant; especially liked the trout a la plancha, heirloom tomato toast and yellowtail crudo. Black hazelnuts are wonderful munchies. We also ordered the pork and scallop skewers. Not a fan of the orange wine (on offer in the cocktail list - it’s a one-note taste with no body) but at least I finally tried it! Good rose from Broc (go Berkeley!). Lovely dinner and fun ambiance.
