As an Indian, I am a tough judge of Indian Food. The food was amazing. Lamb samosa's melted in your mouth, The Naan bread and chicken tikka masala cooked to perfection. The pappadum was soggy and not so good, but the rest was amazing.

Although I am not a huge Indian cuisine aficionado, I visited here on the advice of a friend , and was glad I did. Food was tasty and well-seasoned, and portion sizes were perfect. Service was only so-so.

Came with a group and sat outside. Told to beware of local birds waiting for opportunity to steal food; they made noise and kept close watch but didn’t manage to take ours! Definitely fun environment. Sit on front porch if you want to enjoy people-watching on the street. Had set menu which included many standard choices. Dishes were consistently good. Large list of local beers to choose from. Given a 4 as service was slow throughout. Would definitely return on next trip to Austin.

Went with my girlfriend and her dog at about 11PM. They were friendly and upbeat despite the late hour, quickly seated us, and even brought a bowl of water for the pooch. The food came out super quickly and was incredibly fresh and tasty. Highlight of the visit was our waiter Justice who patiently answered all of our questions and was constantly checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. I ordered some really hot food and he brought some sauces and bread to ease my suffering without asking. Probably the best Indian food I've ever had and DEFINITELY the best service. #Justice2020 #wedontknowhimpersonallysowerenotjustsayingthat

Whenever I travel I aways look for a good Indian restaurant to try. While visiting Austin for the F1 race, I found this wonderfully funky Indian restaurant and just loved it. Terrific food and a really fun, friendly staff had me sold. I ate there three nights in a row! Had chicken makhani, chicken tikka masala, somosas, naan...all excellent. The atmosphere is very different from any Indian restaurant I've ever patronized...really fun and busy with a great vibe. You will not be disappointed.

...and we found it. By far, the best Indian food out l! We found the ambiance artfully authentic, with that ‘its trendy to be in trendy’ vibe. The masala tea was outstanding. The goat was delicious. The samosas sooooo yummy. Probably more if a hipster weirdo spot during peak times, but the best place for Indian food if you got during off hours. Eccentric and elitist waitstaff. A bit pricey. All worth the flavor! Highly recommend.

For a Brit in Texas missing Indian food this was a real gem! Fab atmosphere soaking up the sights on Rainey St an added bonus. Food was delicious, seating outside which was lovely and comfortable with big cushions to lean back on.You can choose your level of spice, went for spicy and we thoroughly enjoyed it!!

This is hard for me, because net-net, I really liked Graj Mahal - I liked the story, the location, the vibe, the really great band they had playing, the staff... but not quite so much on the food. Hence, my 'average' rating. But let me write more... Showed up on a Saturday afternoon with friends, and was promptly seated and brought water. There's no cocktails there, btw, just beer and wine (and a couple of clever sounding beer cocktails), but water was just fine. It was a cool day, but we elected to sit outside on the patio as there was a nice atmosphere there. Ordered papadums and samosas, both of which were good; the samosas in particular were very enjoyable. What let me down was the mains. I had ordered a Lamb Jalfrezi (Spicy) and my partner the Chicken Vindaloo... and it was the mains that let the place down. Now, I'm an Indian food snob, so perhaps this is my problem, and have been lucky enough to eat Indian food in many cities. So, by American standards, the dishes were actually pretty good. The vinegar in the Vindaloo came through nicely, and the lamb in my Jalfrezi was tender. But the compliments end there, as the dishes were a little one dimensional. Indian food, to me, is an explosion of tastes, heat, spices, and unctuousness - it comes together to make each bite an event and Graj Mahal didn't quite deliver on that. Could be great... not quite. So c'mon Graj Mahal... I want to give you another try for your cool service and great location. I'll give it a couple of months and come back!

This restaurant had been hyped to me as one of the better Indian food choices in Austin, so my expectations were high. We found that everything was well prepared and fresh, but I wouldn't call anything especially outstanding or memorable. We WILL return, as we are great fans of the cuisine. The Vindaloo was spicy, but rather dull in ingredients. The white meat chicken was rather dry also. Service was slow.

While I'm not an expert when it comes to Indian cuisine and cannot speak to whether or not the menu is authentic, I really enjoyed this restaurant! Our server was very helpful, taking the time to discuss and recommend several dishes for my coworkers and I. Everyone tried a different entree and enjoyed the food; personally, I ordered the chicken vindaloo, and it was stellar.

The food was very tasty and the staff was excellent. We got a couple of dishes and split it between the three of us. One of them being Tika Masala, it was delicious!

My friends and I fell into this place and boy was it delicious. Many great options and plenty of choices for spice levels. A must go to when in Austin.

EXCELLENT food, very cool atmosphere. I tried nothing that I didn't like and I am a very picky eater. Must sit on patio. Best food I ate in Austin.

We had a very Indian nice meal. The food was very nice but not very hot (spicy) but we are used to hot indian curries at home.

The place is very simple but the food is very good. All typical Indian cuisine dishes are very good. It really is worth the visit. The Curry’s where very good as was naan, rice and what you usually order in an Indian restaurant. It is a hidden gem.

First impressions: acted like they did me a favor making a same-day reservation, when their website mentions that you can do so by simply calling, initially offered us a table within elbow-rubbing distance from tables on each side, and the music was so loud you couldn't hear the person sitting right next to you. Food: Chai was flavorful, but cold. Their large pot of chai is what I would consider small. Pea and potato samosa were decent but ice cold in the center. Chicken and dahl curries were good. Service: Very sweet people who were happy to answer questions and bring a plate of onions for my friend. When our server brought us boxes for the leftovers, he very kindly suggested extra rice to make another full meal for lunch the next day, (free of charge). Overall: Tasty, cold food in a cramped/loud restaurant. The staff did nothing about the clearly inebriated party next to us. Extremely personable servers. For my money, I'll choose somewhere else.

This is the best Indian food I've had. My husband and I ordered three dishes to share and it seemed like a lot of food but we ate all of it because it was so delicious. I definitely recommend the Saag with lamb. I'm not usually a fan of lamb but this dish is amazing. Their rice is always perfectly made and the naan is excellent. They also have excellent beer choices.

We love G’Raj Mahal but had not been to the new location on Rainey Street. Smack dab in the middle of club/bar/trailer/restaurant hipster hub bub, G’Raj Mahal is a lovely oasis with great Indian. We had an order of naan bread, basmati rice, a super fantastic lamb rack in a ginger marinade tandoor baked, and a wonderful chicken tikka masala in a traditional creamy tomato sauce with onions and peppers. Washed it all down with a New Mexican Gruet. Wow!

Rainey Street is bar and restaurant heaven. If you can't find it there, you probably don't need it. Graj Mahal is a short walk from everywhere, which is good because parking in Austin can be challenging and often results in a short walk anyway. We, and about 100 others, stopped in on a busy Friday night. We waited about 30 minutes for a table, which was expected on a busy night. We took a short walk through the neighborhood and our table was ready when we returned. Then dining room was filled to capacity and provided a bit of noise, but everyone was having fun. Our server was great. Our food was delicious and arrived quickly. The spices were wonderful and filled the air with the familiar aroma. Many vegetarian options were available in addition to the standard meat options. Be sure and try the naan! I recommend Graj Mahal to anyone looking for a great Indian restaurant in the heart of Austin.

The food was good, service was good, prices reasonable. My only complaint was the noise level. It did not come from the music being too loud or people talking too loud. The place must have very good acoustics

We love going to this place year after year....Despite the goofy wait staff. Good food, ok prices and novel place. Worth going to just for the name alone! haha Our overall experiences are better than the food or waitstaff. Just a fun time!

The food was scrumptious! I had Roti and vegetable Kashmiri with almond milk (this milk alternative is offered) and basmati rice. The food was plentiful and our waitress, Brooklyn, was informative, funny and welcoming. Vegan and vegetarian friendly!

It was my first Indian Cuisine experience, so I met a friend and we dig on. he had the Biryani and I had the Mushroom Marsala with a side of Naan. It was hot and delicious and we listened to the grackles stalked the vernada. Served with hot tea, everything about it was inviting and the service was very warm.

This is an interesting restaurant with good staff. The food came out really fast - seemingly too fast for it to have been freshly made. I would say the food was just average but the really good local beer selection and service somewhat made up for it. I had the Aloo Tikki to start which were bland and the vindaloo to follow which was really not very good.

They are temporarily closed. I have been checking for 2 months. Call before you visit. They have in the past had excellent meals. It has been my go to favorite restaurant since before the pandemic.

This place was highly recommended by locals. It was definitely a positive experience. The decor is very Austin-y. The tables are small, the entire place is not very big, but their portions are humongous. Staff is friendly and helpful. They would be glad to recommend dishes to you and help you choose. The drinks' selection is fair, but nothing special. Their wine seemed pricey. Tried a beer from Bangalore - nice! The rose from Spain was so-so. If you are in the mood for Indian and/or would like to experience nightlife of Austin, G'Raj Mahal will not disappoint.

Rainey Street is one of Austin's bar districts popular with locals and tourists alike. Rainey Street can seem a bit seedy meets luxurious high-rises, a weird meet-up of old houses converted to bars and sky-scrapers. Be brave, and get yourself to G'Raj Mahal for a relaxed, casual atmosphere and delicious Indian food. I was there with a large work group. Our group had some gluten-free diners, some vegetarian diners, some paleo diet diners and a few unrestricted omnivore diners. Everyone loved their meal here. The server patiently helped each person navigate the menu to meet their needs. I'm a vegetarian. I was delighted by the potato and pea samosas, aloo ghobi, basmati rice, naan bread and chutney. Everything was so delicious. A nice selection of beer and wine is offered.

Little pricey for such a small serving size. It’s pretty good but I don’t think we’d be back. Too many great places to eat in Austin that are not as pricey for my Family of five.

I had been wanting to check this place out forever and was not disappointed. It has such a great Austin vibe! The day we were there a cool Indian jazz trio was playing great music. The weather was perfect, so lots of people had their dogs on the covered patio - making we wish I'd brought mine too! The food and wine was deelish! The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because they forgot our appetizer, which could happen at any restaurant. If I'd been the waiter, I would have insisted the appetizer came late and free. You must try the fruit and nut naan bread - I took 3 orders to go!

Had a nice dinner with a friend. Food was excellent. Crowd is young and the place is busy! They also have a full bar.

Took the wife to our anniversary dinner here in Downtown Austin. Food is excellent, staff friendly and ambiance pleasant.

Being British we love and live for Indian food . And this place ticked all the boxes and was that good we went back for lunch the next day after having dinner . We started with the goat samosas and the vegetable samosas both full of flavour and the pastry was excellent . I had the tandoori chicken because I'm suppose to be on diet ! Very juicy and the perfect spice . My husband had the vindalo which was very good . Fall apart rice and tray full of popudums and great dhal. The next day we had some starter and chicken tikka all excellent. And the wine list is great too ! 10 out of 10 .

This place is a rip off, let me start from beginning, we read some really nice reviews which eventually drove us to the downtown to pay parking and try this overpriced place out, we reached there and found : bad ambiance, no cleanliness (we could see insects climbing poles inside many places inside restaurant, table was dirty, restroom was dirty, not to mention we were the very first customer in the restaurant), bad attitude (very rude staff, okaay, keeping my expectations lower, they did not know what is being presented on the name of indian food in menu, were not able to describe the menu items when asked), I came from India and I do have hang of good Indian food, we ordered malai kofta and biryani, serving size was less, there was a simple pulao/pilaf in the name of Biryani, very bland taste (chef probably does not know what biryani taste and looks like, its a layered cooking process of rice with many different spices to give it a flavor of its ame), malai kofta was kind of okay but not great, not worth the premium price (may be because of good reviews from "yelp" and "tripadvisor"), setting up a an auto rickshaw in front of a restaurant does not mean that you are sure to serve authentic indian food, people are simply being fooled around here in the name of authentic Indian cuisine, there are so many other good places in Austin to try real Indian food ( I don't mean that it has to spicy or anything, am talking about the flavor, if you get this done right, you will love the richness of indian food, if not then you get fooled by places like this and fake reviews ), on top of that menu says that gratuity is charged for the check of 5 people n over, we were 2 adults and 2 smalls kids and we were charged 20% gratuity so there wasn't a way to show our dis-satisfaction, to be honest I did not want to pay gratuity but they charged it anyway in the check without our consent, horrible place and bad service, choice is urs, I would not go back there. God bless. Cheers!

I visited this restaurant with a group of colleagues, and it was so enjoyable we went back before leaving Austin! Great environment, really good service, and the food was DELICIOUS. Although I‘m not qualified to claim it’s authentic Indian, those who were seemed highly impressed.

Im not a big Indian food fan, but I liked the food here. Fresh ingredients and a very laid-back vibe. Both Veggie and meat options. The covered patio in back is a great place to meet and eat with friends.

We enjoyed the fact that we could leave our name and get a text when our table was ready, allowing us to get a drink down the street while we waited. But our table was in the heated tent, crammed next to other tables, and we had to wait an incredibly long time to order drinks, then food, then get water refills. The food was good, not terribly plentiful, but enough for the 3 of us to share 3 dishes.

The food was very good. Samosa pastry was light and flavorful. The Bindi was perfectly seasoned but when we first arrived they were playing country music and at some point it switched to bland, repetitive bar music. Not at all what we were hoping for at an Indian restaurant. Definitely worth a visit but consider sitting outside to escape the musical selection.

My second attempt at this place. This time service was better yet the waiters are busy chatting amongst themselves. Paani Puri is not authentic they slap a chutney and give you tasteless water to pour inside Saag Chicken: tasteless and disintegrated. Looks like they tossed boiled chicken into the sauce and call it saag chicken. Pretty pathetic. Dhaal Makani: creamy with no taste. Excess turmeric Rice: unwashed smells of sack!!!!! Naan: OK. Have had better garlic naan. Price: excessive!!!! Clay Pot is way way better in all respects. Overall: Poor will never come here

While visiting, we wanted to eat on Rainey Street. However, I had my 12 and 17 year old children with us. Most places would not allow or were not appropriate for kids. G'Raj Mahal was great. They were more about the food than the alcohol consumption. That being said, I had an excellent IPA with my meal. Would definitely recommend!

I love restaurants that make an effort to source local and free range foods, and with one of the owners actual being from Goa I had high hopes for this place. Unfortunately, the experience didn't bear them out. The man arranging the tables was delightful - friendly, charming and organised, which he needed to be, given the people waiting. My food and drinks were brought to my table (after my drink order was corrected - it was very loud in there, and I hadn't wanted to yell when I ordered), and then I was entirely abandoned by my server. Nobody came to check on me, or ask if I wanted more drinks, or to bring me the check. After I grew bored, I approached the bar to ask for myself. I wasn't the only person who resorted to doing that, there were three others in front of me. Yes, it was Saturday evening, yes the place was busy, but it was cold and windy evening after it had been raining for much of the day, so the entire front outdoor seating area was shut down. Would the service have been even worse if there had been more tables open? Or had someone told half the servers to take the night off? If so, it was a mistake. To complete the experience, the food was on the whole disappointing too. The keema naan was good, but the lamb jalfrezi, which I ordered as a medium, would have struggled to be called mild. The ingredients were cooked really well, and held potential, but someone forgot to add the spices. For context, I'm British, and the Brits eat a lot of Indian food in restaurants all owned and run by people of Indian descent. I'm used to what Indian people call a medium curry. I'm well aware that there are parts of the US where if I want my food to be a medium, I have to order at least a hot, because the people there don't generally eat spices. I had expected differently at the G'Raj Mahal because a) one of the owners was born and raised in India, as proudly described on their website, and b) this is Texas, and usually the southern states are on board with spicy food. I did make a point of asking my server if a medium would actually have significant spice in it, but that didn't help. If I went back to eat there again, I'd probably appreciate the food more, knowing in advance to order two spice levels higher than I actually want in order to get it right. But when you add in the service, and the large number of alternative restaurants along the same street, I'm not motivated to go back. Overall, the G'Raj Mahal is a great idea handled poorly.

Our meal was delicious and good and spicy (just how I like it). Rainey Street is great for people watching so we sat close to the street to enjoy the hustle and bustle. The only downside of this visit was the service. It was par at best. Our server disappeared several times and we couldn't find him to get refills on drinks, etc. Otherwise a very pleasant experience!

We were there at the lunch time before Christmas and ordered a lamb curry & kinds of grilled fish. The fish was a little bit burnt, the amount of the dishes wasn't enough for even small two persons. But the prices were way expensive compared with other Indian restaurants e.g " bombay bistro" And besides, there was several types of coffee on the menu but they had no milk, which I couldn't understand.

Every time I go to Austin, I try a new Thai place. I'm up to three and this is number three on the list. It was fine, not bad at all, just not the best. I do like the atmosphere, parking can be tricky, and the wait staff was fine. Pretty sure our server was high, but hey, it makes dinner entertaining. I would much rather have Masala Dhaba, the food truck right outside G'Raj Mahal. I DREAM about their food. Go there. It's cheaper and so much tastier!

We had a delicious meal! The Tandoor chicken was really tasty! We had app of potato cakes filled with lamb which were amazing! Nice selection of wines, and very easy to order safely if you are GF. We enjoyed sitting outside, but the space inside had a funky vibe. Def recommend if you’re craving Indian.

We had a great lunch here. Our server was very friendly, and had good advice for what to get from the menu. The food was tasty and fresh.

Had been interested in eating here for some time. food was very good. Waitress brought us a can of beer after we asked if the special was 16 ounces and she said Yes. Never told it was a can of beer. That was all fine, but then we had to ask another server for a glass as she didn't come around again for 10 minutes. All in all, a good experience, but waitress was a little weak.

Our group of six shared 4 appetizers, 4 main dishes, 4 veggie sides with some naan and rice and ate extremely well. I always get saag paneer at Indian restaurants and this was a standout. They have a spacious patio with fans to keep it cool which made for a great atmosphere. Low key service and reasonable price. Highly recommend.

G'raj Mahal is just okay. I didn't find it to be very authentic and was disappointed in the nan, which is crucial for indian restaurants. There are much better indian restaurants in town.

I've been to the G'Raj Mahal several times over the last year and it doesn't disappoint. I sat at the bar and had a pleasant conversation with Joe and the "Wood Man". Both were knowledgable about the food and local beer selection. They also provided great customer service, so a raise might be in order! Onto the food, I ordered the lamb vindaloo and garlic Naan. Both came out relatively fast and hot, and the vindaloo is by definition a hot curry. I've lived in the UK for several years and this place is authentic as it gets in America. If you are craving real Indian food you won't be disappointed with the G'Raj Mahal.

Wherever we visit in the world or around the UK my brother has to have at least one Indian meal. To reduce the disappointment I now make sure I choose the venue or “fail” to find one. This place is highly rated on TA and did not disappoint. It’s not fine dining but their interpretation of a meat with a spicy or creamy sauce is close enough for someone weaned on the slop houses of 70s curry houses. Tasty potato and lamb patties for starters and a lamb version vindaloo that didn’t try to kill me for main. Good breads across the board and s generous bowl of White basmati. If you’re a curry man from the UK this is a good choice.

This place has a great vibe, super helpful staff and did I mention, yummy food?! Try the pani puri which are little pillows of heaven filled with some sweet potato deliciousness. Amazing. We also had rogan josh which was tasty, with just the right amount of spice. I love Indian food and recommend this place. ❤️

Take out: something missing in my saag paneer, just lacking flavour although spiced to our level (like it 8/10). Lots missing in husband's lamb curry: the meat. Mostly very watery sauce with 4 cubes of meat. Not worth the cost.

We were in town for a girls weekend and ate here on the advice of our hotel. Mitch, the general manager, was extremely helpful, advises us on beer, wine, and food! All of his recommendations were incredible! Will visit again!

It was cool tonight so we ate inside. They have plastic tenting for outside dining which kept the cold at bay. Noticed they brought three diners some blankets. Inside we were nicely comfortable and cozy. The food was very tasty. We had naan bread, basmati rice, chicken tiki and lamb Samoa’s. Everything was very good. Pleased to see they had a dry Riesling from Australia nice to have. We walked over to this area from Fairmont hotel however noticed the area does have some parking lots.

Took our grandchild. 18 months old. The staff were great. He loves this place. The minute he saw the food, he could not wait and jumped in with both hands. Needless to say he made a mess. Our waiter was terrific though and said it only means he loved it. We had the naan breads, tikka Marsala, Dahl, grilled chicken, and other things I can’t remember. So so good. Left a good tip to make up for the mess. Fun and good.

This restaurant was a lot of firsts for me. First time an Indian restaurant got the decor and the food right. Eclectic decor - you will want to pull out your camera and take pictures of every detail that pulls the look together. First time Indian food presentation got it right - stylish and quirky without being stuffy. Right portion sizes. Taste - Very good - fresh, different, yet authentic. Music, service, location of the restaurant ....simply perfect! Don't miss. Tip - We took a walk by the river (past the Mexican American Heritage Museum) which is opposite the restaurant before the meal.

Went down in Rainey Street to go to Bangers, but it was so damn busy (long wait line of 2 hours) we searched for another place to eat, this was a nice surprise, food was excellent, and the service was also good, we'd go again. One bad thing, the clear plastic walls, don't keep birds from flying all over and landing on tables and chairs, not the best thing to see while eating, but thankfully they did not poop in our area.

This restaurant is located on Rainey Street which is a super cute area in Austin. My husband and I actually ate here one night because we got a very late start for dinner and there weren't many options. We were not disappointed with the food. We love Indian food. We had the tikka masal and lamb samosas. It was all good. We sat outside on the beautiful patio overlooking Tainey street. The inside of the restaurant is very nice too. The bathrooms are very cool! That sounds weird but they are nice. This is definitely a good late night food option.

By far the best Indian food I've ever had and probably will ever have. It's just too good to find the proper words. And they have delicious craft beer also.

We decided to eat here while we were visiting rainy Street. So glad we did! The service and food were great. We had chicken tandoori and a tikka Masala with a few sides. Everything was delicious!

Had a nice dinner on a Saturday night. Really enjoyed the evening and excitement of the restaurant and area. The valet parking was a good deal. The food was ok but nothing extra special. Service was friendly but slow. But hey - just have another drink and have fun. I will be back.

Went there for lunch and was a little nervous when I saw the outside but the food put those concerns to rest. Service was excellent, didn’t have to wait long for my order the the portion servings are just right. Definitely will make a return next time I’m in Downtown Austin.

Wow! We got a recommendation to go to Rainey street and ended up at G'Raj Mahal. Fantastic Indian food and great happy hour specials. Had chicken Tikka and Vindaloo. Both were fantastic. If you like Indian food, don't miss this place!

Lovely venue but really not great food. Curry was bland even when I ordered desi and when I asked for spice they brought a sauce which was chilli paste and water. I asked if they had fresh chilli and was told they do not. An Indian restaurant that had no fresh chillis I guess that is why the flavor was not really there

GREAT Indian Food, incredible outdoor dining atmosphere, really good service on one of the finest entertaining street venue's in Austin

Took my girlfriend who loves Indian food and has had it all over the place and she thought its best Indian food in austin. The price is reasonable, food is amazing, and atmosphere is fun and relaxing.

We got a recommendation for this place and visited the evening after July 4 fireworks. This place remains open till midnight. Moderately priced and good tandoori food and fish preparation without any food color. It was a holiday and was frequented by university students. Parking could be a little problematic as this is kinda residential area. But the surrounding was lively.

We recently visited G"Raj and, although decent food, we didn't feel like the food was that special. We had the Chicken Vendaloo and was told it was going to be hot. Turned out to be medium heat but that's ok. The Paneer Masala was also just "ok". Wasn't bad but wasn't noteworthy either. So we would have given it more stars but they didn't even have any Chai! Their shirts have Chai on the logo but my wife couldn't get a Chai tea for anything! Sorry but 3 stars is generous....

Very nice ambiance and food quality. Although the uber casual service can be off-putting, it was the great food that won the day.

This is one of the only places on Rainey St that serves food. It has a nice outdoor seating area. We shared samosas and chicken curry Malabar-both were very tasty! The server brought my friend a few different beers to taste before she selected one which was really nice. And he suggested the Ginger Kombucha (non-alcohol) for me and it was good - interesting, but good. Service was pretty slow.

It may not seem like a lot of food when it arrives at your table, but the cream curries of chicken makhani and chicken kashmiri (with fragrant rice) are definitely filling and a good deal at just $15 each. Make sure you get a side of garlic naan bread for $3.75. Very happy that Austin-ites recommended this place to us.

I don’t have a lot to say except the food was very good. The vindaloo was excellent. The tandoori chicken was good. Interesting atmosphere with family style seating, but I enjoyed it and so did my guests. The service lacked a little. - the server probably should have told us when we ordered at an order of naan would not suffice for three, it’s only one piece cut up. - same with he samosa, and order is two, there were three of us. - both the naan and he Samosa came after our main courses and the extra naan we had to order never came at all. I’d go again, but there is some training required.

Lightest lentil papadum I’ve ever tasted! Chicken makhani was very flavorful & went great with a Thirsty Goat amber ale.

Eating on the patio/terrace area of this restaurant was a delight......as was the food which was freshly prepared to order. Take care: We asked for medium spice and it was really quite hot (but not inedible). Although we waited (without a booking) it was 'worth the wait' to dine at G'Raj Mahal..... I would recommend pre-booking (particularly at weekends) to avoid a 'long wait' at busy times. Try the pakora's (as an appetiser) - they're light and particularly 'yummy' and Enjoy!!

Tried out because it was close to my hotel and on the Rainey street. The outdoor seating was fun people watching experience. Food was good.

Top grub at this place and really good service too. Yes, it was quiet tonight when I went in but nevertheless the food was excellent and the service very courteous from Courtney. I had a chicken Rogan Josh, spiced to medium+ with rice and a roti. The place was recommended to me and I’d definitely return. A great curry in Austin, Texas... who knew!

My family enjoyed the outdoor seating and food offerings at this eatery. The service was good and attentive. Few GF meal choices, but plentiful for others without restrictions to choose and enjoy.

I live on Rainey Street and started dining at G'Raj when it was a trailer. I loved it then, and since it's moved into its current location, the quality of food has gotten even better. I honestly could eat this food daily. Highly recommend the lamb saag, garlic naan, and veggie samosas. The wait staff is friendly and the ambience is very Austin. Go to G'raj if you're looking for a fun casual night filled with great food. Only problem is that I usually eat too much!

As a Brit who lives in America I miss decent Indian food so much! This Indian restaurant is on point! Proper Indian food, delicious curry, these tasty dishes are not from a jar. They are perfectly balanced and can come in a variety of spice levels. This place is a must visit!!!!

Came here on recommendation of hotel bar tender. Sat outside on patio. Great weather, but fantastic food. Anything on menu would be fantastic. Had Vindaloo. Outstanding. If you like Indian food, you have to eat if anywhere near downtown and Rainey street.

I was in town for business and decided to check out Rainey Street. I enjoy the vibe and ever changing scenery. I am in town fairly frequently and wanted to try some place different. A colleague spot G’Raj Mahal, the menu looked good so we went in. The place had the expected ambiance. The windows to the kitchen were actually a very unique touch and gave you a chance to see your food prepared. The food however, was underwhelming. One of the guys had the lamb burger which was raw. We had a difficult time waving down our waitress. We were all almost done with our meals by the time the burger came back. The portions were small. The service was very much lacking from start to finish. I could understand if the place was packed. But it was not. For the price, there are a lot of better choices on Rainey.

Once we received our food, it was good. We enjoyed the atmosphere and environment of the outdoor area. However, water, food, check, and return of cards was all very slow.

We had a team lunch. Food was decent (*By Indian Standard). I think the food is more suited for the need of locals which is good (we eat too much species which is not always good for health. ha ha ha). Overall the ambience was good and the price is decent. Worth visit once, by that time you will know by yourself if you wish to go again or not. Happy Experiencing Life....!!!

We ate out on the beautiful back terrace and the whole meal was fabulous! The service was great too. While waiting for our table we walked around the neighborhood and they txt me when our table was ready. Love that!

Put your name on the list then go have a drink somewhere and come back for dinner. We were seated once outside, lovely, and once inside, loud but lots options elsewhere. We sat at a family style table, though didn't interact with other guests. The food was fabulous, the service was excellent, overall just a great night!

Such good food and a fantastic atmosphere! Restaurant within a house which is true Rainy fashion. They also had a live folk band playing during dinner time.

Great little indian place in downtown Austin. Glad we made a reservation, as it filled up quickly. We sat outside, service was good, food was excellent. Not impressed with the single glass wine offerings. But would visit again.

Ordered the samosas, Papdi chat, Bhendi/Okra Masala and Malai Koftha. The food was very badly prepared and tasted poor. The parata tasted like it had been taken out of a frozen packet and microwaved. As an Indian, I was ashamed by the quality. A Caucasian couple from Waco sitting next to us left most of the food due to the quality and they were exposed to good Indian food. Would not recommend or visit again.

For us the best Indian food in Austin. Located in the vibrant Rainey street. Great for friends and couples. We really like the food, the location. The Vindaloo is hot and delicious. Lots of options to choose and share. The cardamon ice cream is a Great desert option if you have sweet teeth :) We keep going back!

Always great. Go with the goat. Some rogan josh and coconut naan makes for a great dinner. Can be a wait at prime times and sometimes short of staff but everything comes out quickly.

Don't bother. We went on a recommendation from our AirBnB host. He must own it, because it was about about as bad as his apartment. Out of 2 appetizers and the one we orderded never showed. Food spice levels were all wrong from what we orderd and one entree was not what we ordered. Then we had to fight with them to remove the missing appetizer and the wrong entree.

What a placeeee. Best Indian I have tried in ATX. The service was great, food amazing and they had this cute old couple playing live music. Great experience totally recommended

We sat down and waiter as normal took our order. Then 45 mins later we went to find someone. I personally think our waiter was out int Eh alley doing coke. Then the manager came and apologized and offered a small discount. Then we waited another 30 minutes. No food. We left. We never ate. We just left. The restaurant was about half full not crazy busy not short staffed. Just bad.

We really enjoyed our dinner here--Rainey Street is just Awesome in Austin! We asked for a low level of spice and really enjoyed some apps and some Chicken Tikka Masala. Weather-permitting, it's so cool to sit outside :)

Very tasty Indian food in a casual environment. We had a lovely dinner at GRaj Mahal. Food very tasty and fresh, They had a wait but we ordered a bottle of wine while waiting for our table. Good experience even though service was a bit spotty. I ordered a bottle of sparking wine with dinner and they did not bring an ice bucket even though it was super hot, When asked for one waitress told me it would be a while because she was serving water to the table next door. Some other small lapses with service. I would have given the place 5 start but service was less than stellar.

I was in Austin attending a conf at the Convention Center first week of June. Reached this place looking for Indian food. Not at all disappointed. Well located on the happening Rainey street. Had Veg Biryani. It wasn't award winning but still very good. Really enjoyed it. Aaloo parantha was good too. Staff was very cheerful. Recommend if you happen to be in Austin downtown.

Went for a late dinner after traveling, the server/service was excellent. the food suggestions were right on. Great location and food.

The service here was terrific as was the food. The Goat Biryani, Lamb Korma & Saag Paneer were all delicious.

Made a pit stop here at the recommendation of a Barista at Houndstooth Coffee. So glad that I did. Did it with my 15 year old niece and daughter who had not tried Indian food much before. Got them to try a couple of Indian appetizers along with some delicious Nan. One of the few spots also on Rainey street that allow minors in to eat. Worth it. And great recommendations and conversation with the husband of the owner.

I always like to eat Indian whenever possible and this place was fine. Nothing great (actually the service was great) and nothing bad. I ordered a medium tike with chana masala and it was fine.

We had lunch here with my nephew and his wife on route Austin airport to catch our flight, I was really impressed! A great find and they had eaten here before, so we had a selection of starters between us; samosa, pan puri and For mains I had the Vindaloo the others a Madras, a Makhani and Chicken tikka masala all excellent. Servers were knowledgable and charming a lovely lunch time experience in downtown Austin.

Pros: Typical cute Rainey St. place. Good and reasonably priced beer selection. Cons: Worst "Indian" meal I have ever eaten. The tikka masala is tomato soup and cream. If you hate cardamom, clove, black pepper, and garlic you are in luck. All are indectible in it or the vindaloo. This is white boy Indian all the way. The chicken is the tikki masala appeared to be utterly unseasoned, and the shoulder cut of beef the appeared to be using in the vindaloo needed about three more hours of braising. Very tough. Food delivery took an hour at 7pm, service was spotty at best, and the tap including tip was $60 with $9 spend on alcohol. This is easily to worst option for both price and quality in Austin (of the dozen Indian places I have eaten). Why not have an actual dining experience at Clay Pit for the money, or eat better quality at Tarka for $20?

This is great Indian food. They nailed the heat level that I asked for. The food was presented well and tasted even better! The bartender was a wealth of knowledge about the food so we knew exactly what to order once we were seated. The wait staff was courteous and professional. This restaurant is in a great area of town for fun bar hopping after dinner.

i went here 4 or 5 years ago when it was just a run-down food truck. it now has a nice indoor and outdoor seating area and is full service. the waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and we experienced great customer service. dogs are allowed on the pation. i would absolutely recommend this place to a friend, it’s phenomenal !!

This place is so disappointing. Food tasted horrible. Waited so long before we could get a menu. Would never return for this place and not recommend to anyone who are looking for good Indian cuisine. Hopefully they focus on food taste and better customer service in the future.

The smell draws you in. Nice indoor and outdoor seating. Reasonably priced wines. North Indian food, good fresh Naan.

I love indian food and this place hits the spot. Maybe because I was really hungry (and also a bit tipsy from some of the drinks I had while we waited for our table), but we left the plates as clean as possible. In other words: we devoured everything that sat on our table. We waited about an hour to an hour and a half, but I thought it was worth it. The prices are a bit higher than I'm used to for Indian food, but their food and service was great.

It was super packed so good thing we made a reservation. The atmosphere is weird with bike theme, just like Austin. There was outside seating and a bar. Best food, seriously we had all trip. Totally go here. It's an easy walk from anywhere downtown.

I wish I knew our waitresses name. She was super helpful, kind and knowledgeable. We the Mutaar Paneer and Saag. I’m still drooling. That Saag, tho!

Good food, and I’ve not experienced a lot of Indian food in the past. Service was a bit slow. Some tables have what appear to be comfortable seats at first, but after awhile become uncomfortable due to extremely low seat backs. Tons of seating outside, which may or may not be to one’s liking depending on your heat tolerance.

I lived in London and have had quite a bit of Indian food in my life and this was definitely one of the best. I tried pakoras, chicken tikka (accompanied by dal, which is a nice touch), vegetable jalfrezi, muta paneer, paratha, and two desserts. All extremely fragrant, fresh, delicious. Every single dish was outstanding.

Lots of vegetarian options and delicious food! The ambiance was awesome and you won't want to skip the dessert of Indian Beignets. Highly recommend for anyone trying Indian for their first time. The menu is simple and straightforward with good menu descriptions.

Typical Austin-Rainey Street spot with good food at a reasonable price. $103 for 4 adults, 3 kids, wine and beer. Vindaloo and saag good. Beignet-type dessert not so much. Christine did a great job recommending for the kids and providing guidance on spiciness of food. Great service and atmosphere. Probable go back after sampling rest of Rainey Street.

Why it gets a 4 is, one, the service was very slow and two, the dishes are more a creative take on Indian food, rather than authentic Indian food.

I ordered the Lamb Saag and Lamb Samosas. That’s pretty much my standard order at every Indian restaurant. The samosas were very good. I was happy to see that they had them on the menu. Seems like it’s getting hard to find places that have non vegetarian samosas. The lamb saag was also very good with big tender pieces of lamb. The saag sauce was more garlicky than most, but I really like garlic. So if you’re not a big fan maybe you should try something else. I would imagine that most of the other items on the menu are equally good. Just a guess though. The only thing that kept me from giving a 5 star (dot?) rating was the decor which isn’t really a big deal. Pretty dark in there and didn’t really feel like an Indian restaurant.

After a few beers next door, we were hungry and this spot smelled sooo good from the street. We stopped in and order Chicken Masala and a yogurt- based curry. The waitress was very helpful, especially considering our ignorance of Indian cuisine. The food was really good! Spicy means spicy, so, if you are a bit hesitant about hot food, make sure you go for the medium.

Really eclectic atmosphere, smells great! Wanted it so desperately, but... what is up with the dirty water glasses. All of them. I just couldn't get past those so we went down the street. I understand that you're trying to create a rustic atmosphere but please get some new glasses or clean the jars.

I am not local to Austin so when I visit I try new things every time. However, on my last three trips I have consistently returned to G'Raj Mahal because there is nothing like it! I enjoy everything they have to offer from the pakoras and naan to the wide variety of curries.I enjoy spicy food so I often have to scale up on the spice, but they also offer medium and mild spice levels too. They have a great wine list with a few local beers on draft. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Austin area looking for a delicious and unique dining experience.

We found this place late at night after having gone up and down Rainey Street for a bit and as such we had no expectations. We were very pleasantly surprised by the service, the food, and the atmosphere. The servers were with us constantly, checking in to make sure everything was ok, and the food really blew me away. It was a bit crowded and it felt like we were sitting very very close to our fellow patrons, but the fun, hip atmosphere made up for this.

G’raj Mahal is fantastic. If you take nothing else from my comments, remember this: G’raj Mahal is fantastic. It is, however, not easy to get to. As of July of 2015, massive construction made Driskill Street a pain in the anatomy to navigate. It’s easiest to exit Cesar Chavez. Northbounders will U-turn under the freeway and stay on the frontage road, (southbounders have a straight shot). Turn on River Street and then right on Rainey Street. If you’re coming out of the city-center—as we were—bring your patience. The food is worth it. Parking is another issue entirely. Again, as of July, 2015, there was a semi-paved, vacant lot across the street from the row of restaurants and bars. With the construction, I doubt that will be there long. There are meters on the street but parking is still limited. When we first arrived—about 45 minutes after opening—the place looked dead. But we took advantage to get a nice outside table under one of the fans. Please note: outside seating is on a gravel surface and NOT a place for spikey heels. Now, the good! The service is laid back and friendly. While the place was just opening, the hostess was attentive and engaged. David, our waiter was patient with our ignorance of the Goan cuisine and made polite suggestions—like the root beer which was really good with the spicy rechaad. We began with samosas, pastry stuffed with seasoned potato and peas. These are the best I’ve ever had. If you’ve had samosas before, you’re probably thinking, “what’s the big deal?” These samosas were freshly made and unblemished by a heat lamp—that’s the big deal. My Missus LOVES spicy. So we ordered the shrimp rechaad, (HOT and not for kiddos) baingan aloo, (potato and eggplant served medium heat/milder than the rechaad) and saag with paneer (creamed spinach with a tofu-like cheese, mild to counter the heat from the shrimp). G’raj Mahal serves basmati rice with the meal. Naan is not included. But if you order the rechaad, get the coconut naan. The sweet bread is EXCELLENT with the spicy shrimp. One other caveat: G'raj Mahal is a young, hip restaurant and bar. They serves an extensive variety of beers and wine. With that stated, I don't think it's a place for kids but you know your children better than I want to. A final word on service—it’s perfect. Polite and attentive but unobtrusive, the staff at G’raj Mahal is laid back and friendly, like Austin. We’d go back simply for the professional staff. By the time we left, the place was packed and the staff remained as gracious as when it was just us and another couple. Ask for David, he’s great.

Our first time to G'raj Mahal and the food was amazing, every bit as good as we have heard. The staff were friendly and kind, but otherwise lacking at basic service skills. We went on a Saturday afternoon, and a band was playing on the patio when we arrived. The music was great but way too loud so we went inside. It was freezing inside and the band wrapped up, so we went back outside to find a patio table. The hostesses and the waiter were perfectly accommodating for our indecisiveness and relocation. All the front patio tables were shaded, and they had multiple fans on high speed with the misters attached. We tried to find a table that was out of range of the misters but no luck. So we sat and made the best of it. Once seated, we noticed water splashing directly onto our table with water splattering up onto plates, silverware, food dishes, etc. Condensation collects on the patio lightbulbs and was dripping right onto our table and, unless we were hyper vigilant, right into our food. Pretty gross. The waiter was super sweet but rather unobservant. He came to take our order (once for appetizers/drinks and again for the main courses), deliver things, and check in on us but never noticed that we needed silverware or that there was nasty water dripping right onto the table. Often, he placed dishes right into the puddle of water, and never once cleaned it up. Again, great food but the management or team leads should pay more attention to guest experiences. Try to see things through their perspective. For this, I'd do take out but probably not eat there again, at least for awhile.

The place is very eclectic, while bicycle parts decorating the walls. The food is decent (though I felt a bit cramped as tables were very close). For the most part, I enjoyed myself. The only advisory I'd give is that the place is located near a bunch of small bars, and while walking there, they were going strong. You don't hear them while in the restaurant, but I'd suggest the place be more for adults than kids (not due to the restaurant itself, but just the walk in the area--as the parties are full swing).

They had good Indian food and plenty of vegetarian options. They had good lamb and let you choose the spice level. Enjoyed sitting on the patio and watching people walk by on Rainey Street- just remember that as the sun sets, Rainey starts filling up with college kids who are ready to party.

We ate a fairly late Friday dinner here after a longer than anticipated wait made acceptable by seats at the bar and the funky atmosphere/vibe of a hippie food truck/trailer that graduated to permanent digs but stayed true to its roots. We aren't versed enough in Indian cuisine to speak to its authenticity in that regard, but do know what's good, and G'Raj has it. We gathered the ovens / tandoori visible in the kitchen from the dining area are central in the wide array of dishes offered. After an interesting appetizer (naan like puffs filled/dipped in a minty sauce), we opted for two curries: Malabar with shrimp, and Korma with lamb. Both were very good, the coconut based Malabar in particular, lacking the cloying sweetness that often accompanies coconut. The menu is largely a la carte, and we would have benefitted from some guidance on composing more balanced plates, but the accompanying jasmine rice and extra naan bread were a good start. We aren't local, which is a shame, because we'd definitely like to explore the full range of what the G'Raj has to offer: our small sample was magnificent.

This is one Indian restaurant with class and taste and clean food. Being Gluten free, it really hard to find places where the food is fresh, clean and free from cross contamination. We as family keep going there often and never disappointed

Here over thanksgiving. Our son convinced us to try this restaurant. We loved it. Really, really good. Four of us were able to order much of the menu and share the dishes.we liked it so much we were ready to go back for lunch the next, but it was closed.

Being from the UK I was wary about the standard of the Indian food in Texas, but this place was a real find. Excellent food at reasonable prices and lovely service from Will. We sat outside with a heat lamp and it was just lovely. Rainey St is fun, houses converted into bars and restaurants - I would definitely recommend over 6th St, where most tourists go. Highly recommended for a night out in Austin.

This is the best Indian food I've had since I lived in London! My wife and I love this place. Usually not a wait if you're willing to sit at a communal table, which is actually kinda fun. (getting to see what everyone else orders!) I swear by the Rogan Josh with Goat as my favorite meal in Austin right now. I could eat it everyday. A little pricey, and a little hard to find parking, but well worth it! A+

Love the food at this restaurant, many options of great Indian food and incredible cocktails. If you come here eat at the patio!

We were desperately trying to find a restaurant that didn’t have an hour long wait to be seated and found this restaurant at the end of the strip with plenty of empty tables so we decided why not. I can say the staff was pleasant and there was a decent variety of plates on the menu. We went with our safe food when going to a new Indian food restaurant; Chicken Tikka Masala and Chana Masala. If they’re not good, it tells you pretty much nothing is very good. Our first indication that something was wrong is that the food came out immediately, so this was not freshly prepared food. The taste was very bland and the chickpeas were underdone. We always order our food Indian spicy and it barely tickled our sinuses. So all in all, we left disappointed. As we left the restaurant, we saw a food truck parked next door with a sign saying AUTHENTIC Indian food. Go there instead.

The food here is good, especially the curries. However you should expect to settle in and enjoy your stay because the service was sluggish.

Loved the atmosphere. Choices on the menu are fun to share between each other. Naan was very good. Spices not the best I have ever had, but very good none the less. I only gave a 4 because our server did not give us the best service. Very sweet person, but not the best service. I would recommend for a dinner experience on Rainey Street!

Indian food is usually vegetarian friendly, but may have limited vegan options. G'raj Mahal caters to vegans as well. There are options to get almond cream in many of their cream curries so that a wide range of dishes are available. The food is tasty and they do a good job of matching your desired level of heat in the spicing of the dish. G'raj Mahal is one of my go-to restaurants in Austin. A great place for a night out. Combine it with a visit to one of the many great bars on Rainey Street.

G'Raj Mahal is located in a fun semi outdoor setting. Perhaps going for a drink might be better. The food is really disappointing. I was taken here by clients and not impressed. The curries were what we see in supermarket buffets. They lacked complexity and were very bland. Potatoes dominated. The same with the Samosas. It was as if they had minimal effort or used prepared foods - no flavor. Austin has great eateries and much better options. I will save Indian for another town and won't be returning.

R’Raj Mahal is a very good Indian restaurant on Rainey Street, which is a very cool and fun neighborhood in Austin. The restaurant mostly has outdoor seating with large comfy chairs in the back. The food was all very good. We had an assortment of the vegetable and meat dishes and all were yummy. The vegetable samosas were particularly good as was the vegetable korma.

We enjoyed an very good dinner at G’Raj Mahal. Excellent spicing especially in the Lamb Vindaloo, delicious Papri Chat and pickled mango, good naan. Good service and good value. The tables are on a patio simply enclosed but welcome air conditioning and fans on a hot evening. And an additional bonus was being in the midst of the Rainey district surrounded by crowds, bars and music. All added to a very enjoyable evening.

If you like Indian food this is the place for you. Vegetarian and chicken dishes are made to order. Terrific naan. The four of us had a chicken tandoori with dal, vegetable tikka masala and chicken rogan josh.

Accompanied by several friends, we tried many dishes on the menu. It wasn't bad by any means. But later we all agreed that it didn't meet our standards. The dishes need to be pumped up in flavor. The tandoori chicken was particularly disappointing. But the samosas were delicious.

Tried this place on our tour of Austin eateries. Very good! The atmosphere is very laid back and different. Looking forward to coming back!!

We specifically went there after hearing that they served Goan food and the chefs were from Goa, India. We were very disappointed, at best it was something your mom put together when she was feeling under the weather. We ordered the Reichad Mahi Mahi, Reichad wings, the coconut curry with fish, samosas & paratha. Sorry to say even the paratha was burned and had no seasoning. It w’d be fair to say the bottled coke was the best thing we had at G’Raj Mahal.

Very nice Indian food, but kind of a long wait for service. Worth the wait and I would go back again. Food portions are generous, so be easy on what you order. Enjoy watching the cooks in the kitchen right from your table!

Nice place to hangout with friends in Rainey St. If you like Indian food then you should visit this restaurant while visiting Austin..especially while roaming around Rainey St.

Indian food isn’t usually my jam, but we were staying on Rainey Street for the week so we went for it. The garlic naan was perfection. And the coconut curry? I seriously could’ve eaten it every day of our trip. Absolutely fabulous.

During a recent business trip to Austin, I had two delicious dinners on the patio here. Service was good and the curry with lamb was excellent. Rainey Street is one of my favorite places to hang out and this place was one of the best eateries we found.

We decided to try this Indian restaurant during our recent visit to Austin. When we walked up to the restaurant on a Friday evening around 7 PM we were concerned to see only one family dining on the front patio. Soon we realized they had a large dining area in the back under a large canopy. The food was excellent and the service was great. I would definitely eat here again.

We have recently returned from India and this food is authentic. I had the lamb chops (which I have to admit I never did see on Indian menus) but they were delicious, just not hot, actually barely even warm. The side dishes of dahl and curry and naan and papadum were very good. If we ever make it back to Austin, we will visit again. I also love the name and the decor.

Over all foods we have is great in taste.Had a nice dinner with a friend & family. Food was excellent. Crowd is young and the place is busy! They also have a full bar.We all like vege.Samosa......

I thought the restaurant smelled pretty good when we walked by and the deck looked fun, so I persuaded my companion, who had never been to an Indian restaurant, to give it a try. Big disappointment. Curry wasn't very tasty or spicy. Portions were skimpy. All in all, I was sorry that this was the place i had chosen to introduce my friend to the joys of Indian cuisine.

Two friends, both Indian cuisine chefs at well known restaurants, visiting from out of town wanted to check out G’Raj for lunch after strolling about on South Congress. We chose Dal Makhni, Mattar Paneer and Lamb Rogan Josh. As soon as the food arrived, we could tell by the looks of it that abundant use of heavy cream in the kitchen may be the norm here. Use of a touch of cream in certain dishes (but not all) is quite common in commercial kitchens to enhance the taste but this heavy-handed use of a fatty ingredient, we all agreed at our table, is totally superfluous. Saving grace were the Naan and Roti. Would recommend a diner ask the kitchen to back off on the cream. However, the young Goan chef may not quite appreciate the request.

... and, after dining here, it was easy to see why. The order taker and check bringer (she doesn’t deserve the title “server”) was disinterested, surly, and - mostly - absent. One of the dining plates we were given had baked on, non-washed food. “Sorry ‘bout that” was the flippant reply when I dared suggest a replacement. The food was bland, flat, watery, and spiceless. The Lady ordered her meal “mild” and I requested “medium”. There was NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL between the two. The sauces were water-thin with no body or texture at all. My assumption is that the multiple high-star reviews previously given came from house family or under prior ownership, because there is no way in Austin that so many folks could find so much to like in so poor an excuse for a restaurant.

Rainey street is one of the more recently gentrified areas of Austin ... quite busy with bars and restaurants. Close to some large hotels such as the Holiday Inn Town Lake. The G’Raj Mahal serves very good Indian food until late night. Goat Biryani and Shrimp Tikka were delicious! Service reasonably quick, prices moderate. Overall quite pleasant.

Truly a gem! Stopped by to eat dinner and told 45 min to 1 hour wait, gave cell number and said they would text us. We were able to walk around Rainey street and get an appetizer and cocktail at other venues while we waited - very convenient. The food was outstanding! Sat out back and it was cooled by fans and lighted with nice outdoor lighting. Service was excellent and I can't say enough about the great Indian food. Would HIGHLY recommend!

Rainey Street is a little Second World, but a lot of fun. G'Raj Mahal was delicious. Everything we got was vegetarian.

In the mood for Indian that was nearby Holiday Inn Town Lake and ended up here. Walked to restaurant which was a little dark but okay. Enjoyed excellent service and tasty Tikka Masala, Naan bread, and Vindaloo. Good location on a lively street.

I went to the restaurant with my mom. She had the Vegetable Tikka Masala and I had the Baingan Aloo. Both were very well seasoned and cook. We got the spicy option and it was the perfect spice to make you need a tissue after. We also shared a coconut naan, which was slightly sweet but didn't take over the natural naan flavor. Highly recommend it!

Wonderful find! Joe was a friendly and very knowledgeable server helping us select just the right items. Their ginger kombucha is out of this world and pairs beautifully with the Indian cuisine. Dishes are made fresh to order and spice level just to your liking. I had a fabulous vegetarian dumpling dish that was excellent and very filling. Highly recommend!

The smells were wonderful. The people lined out the door. Perhaps it was because they were one of the few open on New Year's day. But really if you think this is authentic tasting Indian food you haven't had it. It has some very close similarities. It is decent. The service was horrible. Our server eventually came. He took our order. He disappeared. Food was served. He NEVER came back. We were out of water. We couldn't get his attention until it was time to leave and pay. Then he, at his discretion, gave himself a 20% tip. Nice. Great guy! NOT. Mediocre food and horrible service. Austin has better. You can do better. Sorry, but the service sent me over the edge.

We came in on the 4th of July when visiting Rainey Street. I guess it wan an early dinner and not many people were there. Both my water and beer glasses were dirty. The food was ok but not great. We shared the Chicken Tikka Masala. Which seemed to be made of boiled chicken breast rather than the normal thighs. I wouldn't go back.

I went to this restaurant based on Trip Advisor review. The seating was a bit tight for the two of us as well as the table space. My rating is based on couple of hits (Saag, Batura and Mango Lassi) a few misses (samosa, jalfrezi). The portion sizes were generous and the service was great.

I was visiting Austin for a conference and visited this restaurant for lunch. The setup looked Texan only the the bajaj auto-rickshaw confirmed that this was actually an Indian restaurant. However the food was simply awesome, I eat only vegetarian that day and tried their Chana Masala and Malai Kofta...their spicy version was really nice. The aroma of each spice was nearly perfect, the gravy texture was authentic and the quantity enough to feed two adults. We finished the lunch with a small pot of tea and right from presentation to the spices in the tea doubled up our experience of an amazing lunch that we had.. A must visit place for anyone who loves Indian food...for Indians who need their pice fix while in USA, this is the place to be... Just to add a word for the service, the experience would have not been so good if the service was not nice....The timeliness, response and concern of the hosts was also excellent.

If you are looking for bland Indian food, this suits your palate. We had Veg Jalfrezi with onion and Garlic Naan with Biryani and Kamboucha. While Biryani was mediocre, rest were pretty tasty.

Casual dining facility with delicious indian food. Any restaurant on Rainey St will have a long wait, just need to decide what you want to wait for. Eclectic, very Austin-vibe ish location

Had Chicken Tiki Masala it was very tasty. The naan was nice and fresh.SImosas were good and had a bite of Chicken Tarka it was good. I would eat here again.

Very nicely cooked food. Great atmosphere. Sitting in or out, the staff goes the extra mile to help out for choices as well as making sure you're having a great time. Ok selection of drinks. Tried their vegetarian dishes, and they were really yummy. A must visit whilst on Rainey street. Whilst you're sitting out, they have a fan blowing nice cool breeze from the water, was quite interesting to see that (found in many places in Austin).
Fabulous!
Our hotel shuttle driver recommended this place and it was awesome. We were a bit concerned that it wouldn't stack up to an award winning Indian restaurant we have in our hometown (Columbus, Ohio) that we frequent. We were very pleased that this food really was delicious and just as good, or even better, than what we've had before. We didn't have to wait too long forms table, maybe 30-45 minutes. The great thing was we just gave our number to the hostess and we could go to bars in the area for drinks and they texted us when our table was ready. Definitely a place to eat while in Austin!
