Excellent Tex Mex! Hidden in a shopping center!

By DaveELyons |

Outstanding chips with 3 sauces - the green and roasted brown are superior. Enchiladas are excellent. They claim to have the best tableside guacamole in town and they are right up there! Super attentive service! This place deserves a chance! Easy access from Centgral Expressway.

Truly Mex-Tex

By EndlessSummerCaptain |

Hadn't eaten true Mex-Tex in years but this dining experience brought it all back to me. Spicy and delicious. Tamales were unmatched. Tilapia was delicious and well presented. Flan was really nice.

Really liked the food

By AIJCADD |

Decided to roll the dice and give it a whirl and was pleasantly surprised. Service was good, atmosphere was pleasant and they have a cool hot rod sitting out front to distract you when you enter/leave.

Very tasty

By Deborah N |

conveniently located in a little shopping center on the corner of Meadow and Central Exp. Good food. I usually don't like the green salsa, but theirs was the best. I loved it! and the food was flavorful and tasty. Prices in the medium range. Good tea. Good service.

This place isn’t winning a Michelin Star, but for fast, simple, flavorful Mexican food with great friendly service it’s 5 stars.

Famiy lunch

By Scott J |

West side of 75 at the Meadow Road exit. It was on a Saturday so thankfully the traffic was light and fortunate for us, the restaurant was not busy. Their stated claim to fame is the table side freshly prepared guacamole. It was good and more than the 4 of us could eat. Recommend the brisket taco and the stuffed pepper. Both are really very good. Not a "date night" kind of atmosphere, but the place is clean, the service is good, the food is very good.

Awesome!!!!!

By safetyass |

Excellent quality everything! Lunch was amazing, sauces, burritos, fajitas ...etc. A step above with excellent service included

Very Big!

By Clint C |

Giant portions, a giant menu, a very wide variety of foods, fish chicken beef soups tacos gorditos all kinds of stuff. The food was very good the service was on point. Overall it is a very good experience, above average, I liked it the food was good the staff was good I'll be back.

Best Mexican evaaaaar

By Stephen M |

I was informed of this little gem by my hotel staff. I walked into Gabriela & Sofia and immediately greeted by a smiling happy person. I was seated by my gracious host, and my server wore an even larger smile. I ordered the combo fajitas, chips, queso. Let me just say this.... By far, some of the best I've ever had in my life!!! The food is on point ya'll. Talk about flavor! O M G. The staff was amazing. The owner talks to everyone! The food . . . the FOOOOD!! HAVE I TALKED ABOUT THE FOOD?????!!!! Run, don't walk to this place. You will love it.

Very Good Tex Mex

By Karen C |

Tried this place because it was close to where we were. Turned out to be an excellent choice. The 3 salsas served with the chips were good. There were 4 of us, everyone liked what they ordered. The enchiladas are filled very generously. Staff was very friendly, atmosphere was good. We will go back when in the area.

The best of everything

By JManers |

I love this place!!!! This small restaurant has a nice atmosphere and great food. Picture is Gabby’, Dinner which is grilled vegetables on top of one cheese enchilda and one chicken enchilada topped with ranchero sauce. The first meal I ate here was their Salmon. It is simply the best I have ever eaten served over a bed of asparagus and a side of cilantro rice and grilled veggies. Salmon is served with a light delicious cream sauce. Another of my favorite would be the brisket tacos and brisket enchiladas, but you can not go wrong with their cheese enchiladas with chili con carne. They are the best around.

Don't let the exterior fool you...

By Janine M |

This little gem is in a strip mall and a dull, dated strip mall at that. The service was excellent and the food was just so good. We ordered the Chorizo Queso appetizer and they arrange it in the tortillas for you...tableside! I was so grateful I didn't have to deal with the stringiness of the cheese myself and I had never had someone do it for me. It was a great treat. For dinner I had steak fajitas, my daughter had the chicken quesadilla and we both loved our dinner. Also, even though it was happy hour, we opted for the top shelf margaritas and they were definitely freshly made. Not too sweet, fresh lime juice and strong as hell. It was a fantastic meal in Dallas and we will definitely go back.

Great Neighborhood Restaurant

By Kathi M |

This restaurant has been open a few months, and I would encourage any Tex-Mex food lover to give this place a try. Consistently great service, above average food and reasonable prices. They treat you like family.

Prices not matched by food, decor, service

By AVGTXN |

Friday night. What was formerly a quaint (hidden gem), Tex-Mex place with very reasonable prices and great food has become high-priced without a comparable improvement in atmosphere, food quality, or service. When you pay these high prices, you expect much nicer decor, better food, and more attentive service. My fajita chicken tacos plate was pretty plain. I also tried five times to get the server's attention for drink refills, and he was simply blind to us being there. The pandemic can't wholly be blamed for the changes as other Tex-Mex places in Dallas offer better values, atmosphere, and service.

Best Tex-Mex Ever

By thewestnest5 |

My family and I visited this restaurant last night for dinner and it was amazing. From start to finish, everything was fantastic! We were visiting from FL and always look for new Tex-Max places to try when we visit Dallas, but now we don't have to try any others when we return because we have found the very best! Very impressed!

Good food in a strip center.

By BobMunky |

Excellent food & friendly staff. Brisket chimichanga is fantastic! Chips are thick & sturdy enough to pick up anything you dip them in.

Classic low key tex mex

By David L |

This is not your fancy joint. The tables are simple, the floor is plain, there isn't much decor. But you don't eat decor. You eat food, which is anything but plain. Not fancy. This is tex-mex. Solid flavors, solid execution and classic dishes. If you want to see just how good a slow simmered mole beef taco can be.. This will do it. Every flavor was clean and crisp, and the textures just what you expect. Fancy no. Solid food. Absolutely.

Good experience

By WTCarter1656 |

Our experience here was good, however not exceptional. Service was fast and efficient and the food was tasty albeit somewhat bland. Not your typical "Tex Mex" style. A really nice experience was the preparation of some very tasty guacamole at table side.

Yummy top shelf Ritas and Chimichangas!!!!!!!!!!!

By Csfrn8 |

A friend and I was in the area for a seminar. Asked the desk clerk where we could find a good Margarita and good food and not spend a lot of money. I had 3 people chime in at once. They all told us about Gabriela & Sofia's Tex Mex. We were NOT disappointed. It was all great! Drinks, chips & hot sauce and main course! Trying to think of a reason for my husband and I to go back to the area just so we can eat there!

Good flavor local Tex-Mex

By OlyEast |

Nice local Tex-Mex place for the family to eat at (not a loud chain restaurant). The food was very flavorful and good. Not your traditional plain Tex-Mex but did have tacos, fajitas, enchiladas and good guacamole. No burritos except for the kids menu. Would definitely go back again.

More guacamole please!!

By mizzpriss02 |

The guacamole was good. They did not skimp on the tableside guacamole. I had cheese enchiladas with with mole sauce and my daughter had fajitas! Yum! Will definitely be back, if in this area again!

Just ok.

By Care4752 |

They brought out a small container of chips (not the Texas way!). The queso wasn’t up to par but the fajitas were good.

I like this place

By CraftBeers |

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. Maybe I'm tainted by being starved of visits to restaurants during the pandemic, but wow was this good. The restaurant is hidden inside a no-frills stripe mall. The moment I walked in the front door, I was greeted with kind friendly people. They were all wearing masks and gloves. Several people checked on me. All of them were pleasant and engaged. I felt welcomed. Their menu has been converted to the online QR code, which I find highly convenient. I hope this becomes a permanent change for every restaurant. I ordered Gaby's Dinner off the enchiladas menu. It was two chicken enchiladas topped with ranchero sauce and sauteed veggies. The sides were rice and refried beans. The sauteed veggies were the star of the show. Wow. The onions had a smokey caramelized flavor. The mushrooms were fresh and perfectly cooked. The spinach was cooked but still bright green. The only way I know how to do that is blanching in cold water to stop the cooking. The seasoning in the veggies was divine. It's a rare case where the enchilada was second fiddle to the toppings. Don't get me wrong, the enchiladas was great, but I'm raving about the toppings that sent the dish over the top. Huge thumbs up to the atmosphere, people and food. 100% would return!

A hidden Gem!!

By clove224 |

This is definitely worth it's weight in gold. It was an impulse stop and I'm glad we did. Lee had the tacos al Carbon and his thoughts are " plenty of tender meat with excellent flavor, the rice is exceptional, well seasoned, fluffy but not mushy. The beans are fresh, seasoned to perfection and not refried." The tortilla soup is delicious with a broth/ tomato base, tender chunks of white meat chicken, onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, corn tortilla strips, queso blanco and a slice of avacado. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty.

Went The Extra Mile - Thank You!

By TexasLacey |

What a Great Restaurant! They went the extra mile for my husband and me. The restaurant is known for their friendly employees and staff. After a long day, we went in for a great dinner. We asked Elizabeth, our waitress who was very helpful, if the bartender could make us a frozen mojito. She returned after talking to him and she told us that he was up for trying to make his first one. In a few minutes, here she came with our drink! It was delicious so we had another one! We wish more restaurants were willing to try something new to satisfy their customers. Also, the food was delicious! Thank you Gabriela and Sofia's for going the extra mile!

Great new tex mex

By Terry H |

Very nice time at this new restaurant. There were a few kids and a little loud tonight but the food was fabulous and service was prompt. Since they don't have a liquor license yet they give out Free margaritas and free beer and sangria. Very nice treat. I had the brisket tacos and they were great. Very tender, and I ask for them on corn tortillas. Mmmmmmmmm Another in our party had fish tacos and said they were great. Chips and salsa were hit and fresh. I almost forgot the table side guacamole a young lady prepared for us. It was so good and fresh. A very good choice to select Yelps Hot and New option and try a new restaurant. I'll go back again.

High quality tex mex

By alan r |

We've been a dozen or so times since they opened. Hits on all the items you expect from a tex mex spot but any dish with their brisket really stands out. Also have very good mole, which is a rarity at most tex mex places. Table side guac is amazing and fresh as well. Top shelf margaritas, tasty and potent. One of the owners, Gabriel (his daughter is Gabriella), is a real pro working both the front of the house, behind the bar and even whipping up the table side guac. Great for big parties and families. Tex mex was a huge void in that part of the neighborhood and, in what has been a pretty iffy/so so shopping center for a long time, G&S is a real bright spot.

New restaurant knocks one out of the park........

By Wil R |

I generally do not try 'new' restaurants until they have had some time to "season" as it were. I read about this recent addition to the local menu in the Lake Highlands Advocate, a neighborhood newsletter. We decided to break from the pattern and give it a try. Very very glad we did. I had the lunch combo with a brisket taco, brisket enchilada, and pork tamale. Tamale and enchilada were covered with excellent chile con carne. The taco was a soft flour wrapped delight. My wife had chicken and cheese enchiladas with sour cream/chile con carne respectively. We had the lunch size plates and doubt we could have finished a regular plate without leftovers. Now I realize most people don't get real wound up about Tex-Mex/Mexican here in Dallas, but when you find a place that obviously takes some pride in getting thing just right, it stands out to us food purists. Everything has that fresh, just made feel and taste. The salsa has just the right amount of garlic, peppers, tomatoes, and a minimal amount of cilantro. It is delicious. (All salsa in mho benefits from some lemon and salt added) The tamale was 70% pork and 30% wrapper, best tamale I have had in ages. I highly recommend giving this place a try! I know we will be back.

A Tex-Mex Gem...food was exceptional!

By twinkshouse |

Food: 5 / Service: 5 / Ambiance: 5 We tried Gabriela & Sofia's for the first time and would recommend giving them a try. They are located in a strip mail, next to a Tom Thumb, so there is plenty of parking. They had mostly booths and some banquette seating but they also have some outside seating in the front of the building. We were there for lunch, so they were not busy when we arrived. We were greeted and seated immediately by the same young woman who was our server, Aracely. They brought chips, black bean dip and salsa. These were all very good, particularly the chips, which had a very prominent stone ground corn flavor. We ordered a large order Nachos De La Casa (ground beef and bean), which does come with Guac, Sour Cream (that we had left off) and Jalapenos (we got extra) and The Chefs Dinner, which was a brisket taco with gravy on the side, brisket enchilada, a pork tamale and rice. The nachos were very good and had a bit of spice to the meat. It appears that the small order may be six nachos and large is eight and each nacho is sizeable We did have a small glitch in that the kitchen put a cheese enchilada on our plate instead of the brisket enchilada. We asked Aracely, to be sure it should have been brisket and not the cheese that we got, and she immediately offered to get us the brisket enchilada. She brought that out to us right away and while we did ask if she wanted to take the cheese enchilada away, she declined, so we did have the opportunity to try both the cheese and the brisket enchiladas. The enchiladas were exceptional! The cheese was filled with plenty of cheese and the brisket had both cheese and brisket...both were covered with chile con carne. The pork tamale was really big and had a great flavor. The rice was really good as well. They have a really good selection; the service and food were great!

Good food, friendly service

By russkwtx |

We went here for dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant has been open for 4 years and I never even saw it! We started with the organic tequila margaritas. They come in big tall glasses. Not much flavor but they had a kick. Pretty good overall and they cost $11. We then had table side guacamole and asked for medium spicy. It was prepared perfectly and there are few things better than fresh avocado made into guac. It needed some salt but was tasty. Small order is $8.99. I ordered Oaxaca nachos for my entree. 8 nachos to a full order, $14.99. A couple of the chips tasted stale and they were warm instead of hot, but I love nachos so I enjoyed them anyway. They come fully loaded with sour cream and guac already added on top. The wife ordered the enchiladas with mole, $11.99. She loves mole and theirs is very good, very strong chocolate flavor and really has a spicy kick at the end. She liked them a lot. Our service was friendly and efficient. Restaurant and restrooms are clean. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and will return now that we know they are in the neighborhood. I was especially intrigued by the large breakfast menu, looked really good.

Excellent Tex-mex

By Kaptx |

This is an excellent restaurant in a small strip mall. First, the service is excellent and very accommodating. I.e. Substitutes are not an issue. We had two appetizers (queso with brisket and table side guac) that were outstanding. For entrees, the brisket quesadillas and the huevos were very good. All around, a great lunch.

Good tex-mex

By BrussoDallas |

After reading about Gabriela & Sofia's in the Advocate we decided we'd give it a try. The food was good, the service was good and the price was right, what more can you ask for? I tried the brisket taco's which were great, not dry & not greasy and the flour tortillas were grilled & just a little crispy, which were awesome. My husband tried the eggs with chorizo but I think we both preferred the taco's. It isn't a huge restaurant but we were able to get right in on a Friday night. We'll definitely be back.

Great Tex Mex

By Myopin |

This is a fun family friendly restaurant. I would recommend the chicken enchilada dinner. very filling and tastes great. Their strawberry margarita is awesome.

Darn good food

The food is delicious and the service is even better!! They are paying attention and want to make sure you want to come back and it shows

The Best Guacamole in Town

By mshbnyehud |

Family members gathered for Sunday Brunch and were "wow"d by the excellence of this marvelous family run Mexican restaurant. Since we're not morning drinkers, we by-passed the outstanding value of mimosa and poinsettia drinks offered. Brunch eggs choices are numerous, and delightful. We couldn't possibly miss ordering a large portion of the homemade, tableside prepped guacamole -- literally made to order based upon your tastes. Chopped jalapeño on the side, no problem. Leave out the cilantro. Okay! The portion served 7 adults with no problem. It IS the Best Guacamole in Town, affirming the restaurant's 'branding'. immediately after sitting down, the waiter brought fresh tostada chips, lightly dusted with special spices, joined by two excellent salsas -- tomato based traditional and light green guacamole and cream based salsa. I ordered Fajita with Eggs -- 3 eggs served perfectly over easy (my request) on fresh corn tortillas with a grilled kitchen sliced chicken breast on the side, an avocado/tomato salad, breakfast potatoes and wonderful black bean and cheese frijoles. I savored every morsel. Service was good although the kitchen took about 5 minutes too long to prepare and deliver the main dishes. But everything was super fresh, so this was really a minor detail. Can't wait to go back for dinner sometime. This is a high value, high quality Tex-Mex experience!

Terrific

By Himomfl |

A hidden gem in a strip shopping center. Atmosphere is upbeat and lively. A small bar area with TV at the rear, plenty of table and booth seating. Service is efficient, friendly, and helpful. I had the Carne Asada, tender beef over a bed of lightly sauté vegetables, good charro beans. My companions had, chimichanga and enchiladas, all fresh, plenty of sauce and presented well. The chips are good with three salsas for dipping, reg, tomatillo, and roasted, excellent. It's a bit of a drive for us, but, we will return.

Don't miss this place

By Bart M |

I don't know how I found this fantastic restaurant, it's not highly rated on either Yelp or Trip Advisor, but so glad I did! It's kind of funny that you can get nearly any kind of food you want in this shopping center, Chinese, Italian, Indian or Mexican. This place is probably not going to be in this location for long, it's a happening place! I ordered brisket tacos and they were fantastic, the girlfriend ordered beef al carbon tacos. Both were fAntastic! Her margaritas were plenty strong, service was great too. Chips & Salsa as well as queso were all very good as well. Don't judge the book by its cover!

declining quality

By jpatter1 |

We have been here many times. Sometimes it's excellent. Lately it has been in decline. This week we ordered two table side guacamoles. Spicy. They came bland. No salt or jalapeno. No seasoning. My sister ordered fish tacos. The fish was so salty she could not eat them. I tried a bite. Inedible. Could not get service for guac or tacos. My wife finally took the dish to the back. The server said, "We can redo it, but it will be just as salty." Second order was good, but we were all done by then. Grilled veggies were dripping in oil. Shrimp ala Diablo was overcooked and unseasoned. Overall bad service; bad food.

Delicious tacos, margaritas

By capelove25 |

I enjoyed a delicious meal and highly recommend this restaurant. Like others have said it’s in a strip mall but don’t let that fools you. It is easy to get to and parking is free! The chips and salsa were excellent, the skinny margarita refreshing, and the tacos delicious! Can’t wait to come back here!

Nice, Dark and Bland

By mariahbay |

Hard to understand how this place gets 4.5 stars on Yelp but Mr. Mesero only gets 4.0. This is second Yelp review restaurant we’ve visited lately because of ratings and both have truly missed. The only thing they share with Mesero is the three salsas. All salsas here were good, but undistinguished. Brisket tacos were good flavor. Beans and rice were truly flavorless in my opinion; however, my wife liked the rice. Service was timely and pleasant. Women’s bathroom was spotless. However; still not a repeat.

Best mole I have had in a long time

By czmdivenut |

Small place but the food was good. Pollo con mole was the best I have had outside of Mexico or a nice Mexican ladies kitchen where I grew up. Salsas were OK but not hugely spicy - mole had bite though. Nice charro beans and a small salad.

Excellent Food & Service!

By DAVE H |

Stopped in at 4 on a Saturday. We had a great experience! Both food and service were excellent. The restaurant was clean and well maintained. Our dinners came quickly after we ordered served piping hot right out of the kitchen as it should be. A tasty meal at a nice price!

Great!

By Carmelita W |

In town for a road trip from Myrtle Beach. We were put on a wait at Topgolf and decided we should probably try Mexican while in Texas and this place had good reviews! It was really close to where we were. Everything was delicious. They give you 3 different salsas complimentary with your chips. The only thing I didnt like about this place is the chips. They definitely don't make them in house and it was disappointing. But everything pretty much made up for it. The staff was extremely friendly too!

Dont' Blink or You'll Miss It

By MMBBBNS |

We went here after reading a bunch of recommendations. It's a small place located in a shopping center. The service was fast a friendly. They were hosting a large party and we didn't notice any slow down in service. The food was great. If you're looking for authentic Tex-Mex, they do it right. Prices are pretty good two. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is good.

A True Gem

By Millicent N |

Found this restaurant while searching Trip Advisor. Excellent Customer Service & Excellent Food. The Guacamole prepared at our table is a True Mexican Dish. I ordered the Brisket Tacos & the bean soup was Mmmm Delicious. We will be eating there again. This is now our Go To Mexican Restaurant. Thank you..

Well above the average...high quality

By BoiseBeaker |

Looking for a quick bite close to the new apartment...Tex-Mex sounded good and we discovered this gem! The chips were warm and crispy...not real thin but still good. The salsa has just the right amount of heat but also a hint of cilantro and lime. We settled on the grilled chicken & queso chimichangas...best decision we made all day. Lots of grilled chicken breast meat and all cooked perfectly. This place is worth the drive, but if you live in the area it's likely to be a fave!

One of the best in Dallas

By John J |

This is a hidden gem that few know about. I kind of like it that way! Best guacamole in town (Anamia's is close). Basic tex-mex, so do not expect a focus on exotic seafood and Mexico City Mexican food. Still, it is really good. Service is fantastic. Similar to Mi Cocina, but much better in my opinion. Certainly better chips, tender fajitas and excellent cheese enchiladas. Great brisket taco. Not a big fan of the tamales here, but everything else has been great..

Merida Shrimp salad

By Ron A |

If you want a healthy option at an excellent Tex-Mex restaurant then order the Merida Shrimp Salad. This is a huge salad with big and tasty grilled shrimp. I also recommend the brisket enchiladas and or quesadilla. Their salsa is very good as well. Service is very attentive.

Wonderfully fresh!

By Catherine E |

I've been here 3 times and just want to rave about this restaurant! Consistent, not greasy, fresh and flavorful. Don't get me started on the top shelf margarita! (Or do!!!) Arriba!!!

I found this place close to the hotel. Great find

By Robert H |

I found this place close to the hotel. 4.5 rating is a great start but I was really impressed. It started with the chips and two types of salsa and a killer bean dip. I am not a bean dip fan but I would go back for just the dip it was that good.

Good service and food

By Kaptx |

Five of us had a late lunch. Very good service. Good chips, and three different salsas. Also, ordered the queso and guacamole, both of which were very good. All of had quesadillas with various fillings, brisket, chicken, cheese, and/or spinach. Good variety and all good. Had a variety of margaritas. Easy parking.

Hidden Gem with great Tex Mex

By John J |

This is consistently great Tex Mex. Lots of other options as well. Service is excellent and a uniquely team approach where servers who are not yours will take care of your chips, water, etc. if they notice (before you need to ask). Chips are exceptional and come with fantastic green sauce, beans, and hot sauce/salsa. The tomato based salsa is especially good (the green and red salsa are a bit hot for some, so be warned). Table side guacamole is as good as it gets in Dallas (very similar to Anamias and way better than Mesero or Mi Cocina's bland version). Great cheese enchiladas and crispy beef taco (would prefer a bit more white onions in the enchiladas). Very good refried beans and Mexican rice. The shrimp tacos were perfectly prepared with home made tortillas. Atmosphere is ok, but could be improved to be more festive and light. Reasonable prices and great food will keep you coming back.

Surprising little place

By mmmartin70TX |

A co-worker said we should try this place. Another location catered a party and this location was right by our office. From the outside it looks very small, but good planning on the inside provided plenty of seating, along with an outdoor patio. Non-descript little place I have driven by and not given a second thought. First off, a warm and friendly hostess is always key to setting a standard. Second, if the chips and hot sauce pass the test then I will stay. They served 3 varieties, the avocado and the red were my favorite, both had a nice heat. The smoky pepper one, not enough heat for me, not my favorite. But chips were awesome, not greasy. My only complaint, I eat a lot of chips and hot sauce and these three tiny containers were not enough for 3 people. They had to bring another tray just for me. The enchiladas could have been hotter b/c the cheese on the inside was not entirely melted, but the queso was good. My friends liked their plates, enchiladas and tacos. Everyone agreed we would go back. It was a gorgeous Friday and at noon it was not packed but had a good crowd, you could tell most of the people were regulars.

Fantastic!

By michskier8181 |

Found this place on accident during a week long business trip. It was right across the street from our hotel. This place is a fantastic find. The food is great and is very reasonable. The staff is great and friendly. I would recommend this place very strongly.

Amazing!

By Charles W |

Here on a business trip. Saw your list of 10 restaurants close to my hotel so I went to check this out. Being a native Texan, I can eat Mexican food every day!! Wow! I'm so glad I did! The BEST guacamole I've ever had. Margaritas with jalapenos that were great!! But the whole place felt like home. The staff were nice and remembered me when I went the next night too!! Definitely will come back and would recommend to anybody.

Great food, great Service!

By Charla P |

On our recent trip to Dallas for a football game, we ate here Twice-that’s how good it was! The table side guacamole was made perfectly to our specifications. Fajitas for two included fall veggies -amazing! Cold beer and skinny margaritas topped off the deliciousness. Server Nicole was attentive even while serving a large table in addition to ours. All the folks working cared about our experience and we can’t wait to go back!!!

TRUE TexMex!

By JoInTexas |

Wow! I really debated between a 4 and a 5. Service is a 5! Food is a 4. It was a very nice experience and we will be back soon for authentic TEXAS Mexican food!

Hidden Gem!

By TravelLikeaStar |

I have been here a few times and it is now my “go to” when anyone mentions Tex-mex. I have tried several things. The Guacamole to start is fantastic (made table side). I live the tamales and the chile rellenos. Frankly, everything I have tried has been good. Service is fast and attentive but not rushed. Hands down beats the “trendy” restaurants!

True Tex Mex

By amp1231 |

Was looking for a lesser-known hole in the wall Tex Mex place while in DFW and definitely found one. It's located in a strip mall about 6 miles north of Dallas off US-75. You're given the usual chips and salsa to start out, however they offer 2 red salsas and a green salsa to go with them. Had the brisket enchiladas for dinner. They definitely weren't shy on the brisket. Was all very good. By the time we left, around 6:30pm on a Monday night, very few tables were left, showing how popular they are with the locals.

Good but not amazing.

By BeachBatik |

Table side guacamole was very good. Rest of the food was good but average, no t spectacular. Service was attentive. I felt prices were on the high side for what was served. Very few patrons in the restaurant which was nice because we had plenty of room to relax. All in all, it was a nice dinner.

Strip Mall Restaurants Do Deliver

By PMLJohn |

On vacation in Texas, we spent a day in Dallas. There, we had the pleasure of discovering and eating at this restaurant. We wanted good Tex-Mex style food. We utilize this site and Yelp, and found this closest to our hotel, with the best ratings and reviews. We were not disappointed. We started with Queso and margaritas. Both came out quick and tasted great. The drink had sufficient alcohol, and was reasonably priced. My wife had the taco plate, with fish, and I opted for the Chef Plate, with brisket taco, enchilada and tamale. Amazing food, well prepared, and flavorful, to the last bite. We opted out of dessert, but what we saw, looked good. The chips and salsa was decent, and our service was friendly and attentive. All in all, a great experience in a different city. Reviews are subjective, but this place deserves all the great reviews it has and will continue to receive. A safe bet, for sure.

First Time Diner

By Jim R |

We stopped by for lunch after reading a review in a local paper. Only open 2 months this restaurant is doing a great job. If they don't change it should be around a long time. The menu is extensive and serves breakfast (egg dishes) all day. The brisket enchilada's were excellent, and the chicken tortilla soup had so much chicken there wasn't much room left for the soup. The usaul complimentary chips were nice and hot and the red salsa had a nice kick with just a touch of cilantro. Brunch is served on weekends. The atmosphere is nice, but was a bit noisy at lunch. In my opinion, they should lower the volume on the in house music. We watched as one server made an table side guacamole and it looked devine. Most items were between $8 and $10, and a couple of larger platters were about $14. The locaction is in a large strip center with several other restaurants and a large grocery store. Parking is what you would expect, and the area appears safe and would be well lighted in the evening. This is a restaurant that we will visit again and again. 4 Stars

pretty good food but poor service

By naneliz |

My friend took us here for Tex-Mex, and the food and ambiance were nice. Not quite "authentic" but they make guacamole very fresh and custom-ordered, at your table which is remarkable and really delicious! It took them more than 10 minutes to get around to taking our order and the service was decent, after that. Food was well above average and people were kind. Worth visiting.

Walked from hotel to the shops and found a gem. Great margarita. Shrimp enchilladas were delicious and salsa trio with chips does not disappoint. Worth a stop! Service was fantastic as well.

Fabulous Service and Great Foid

With 3 hours notice Eli was able to seat 20 family members on a Friday night! The staff was very friendly, very responsive, and joined in with our family in laughter. Our drink orders were taken immediately and then our food orders. Food came from kitchen at the same time, HOT!! Food was presented well and was delicious. Chips, salsa and drinks were refilled in record time without asking. Plenty of parking. Would definitely visit this restaurant when in town again!!!

Very pleasant surprise, will return

Friday night. This small, unassuming Tex-Mex place in a strip shopping center is really quite good. No fancy decor; just great food that stacks up well again the Taco Diners and Avila's of the area. Unlike so many places, the menu had an overabundance of great selections. Our brisket and chicken al carbon tacos were really very good and didn't look like they were just slapped on the plate, as so many other places do. Sides also very fresh and very good. Service was amazingly polite and attentive. We eat Tex-Mex every Friday night all across Dallas and will definitely add it to the rotation going forward.

Friendly staff, very good food.

Everyone on the staff was very polite and efficient, and the food very good. We had the nachos and the quesadillas as entrees. Both were good and bountiful (I.e. Take homes). One of our friends had the pollo with verde sauce another an enchilada. They both ate everything on their plates. Clearly we will return frequently.

Very Good food, excellent service

Don’t be turned off by its strip mall location. A very good Tex-mex restaurant Five of us had lunch/brunch. Good chips served with three salsas: red, green and “Smokey”. Also, had the queso and guacamole made to order. Both very good. For entrees, chicken with verde, tacos and a full order of brisket quesadillas. All very good. Also, had the chicken mole and the roasted chicken replenish. Both excellent. Sizable drinks. Overall, inexpensive. Will return.

Great little Place at Meadow and 75

I came here to recommend area restaurants close to my work and was pleasantly surprised! I had a steak fajita salad and the steak was perfect. This will be my go to place for Tex Mex.

Great Tex Mex

This place is located in SW Corner of Meadow and Central in the Tom Thumb SC. Every thing is good here, must have the table side prepared guacamole--awesome. Good enchiladas and combination platters. Excellent nacho's and chips and salsa, good service and flat screens in the bar.

Great Find, Odd Location

This strip center has always been mediocre, with tenant turnover and not known for quality establishments. But I read Yelp reviews and gave Gabriela and Sofia's a try. My family was skeptical but they decided it was one of my best finds ever! Service was personal and knowledgeable, customers were regulars and seemed to know the staff, and the food was great. Good salsas, table made guacamole, enchiladas, carne asada and carne ranchero....it was all fresh and first class. My family are big fans of Mi Cocina but now they're looking forward to another visit to G & S!!

Great little place

Gabriela & Sofia's was recommended by the hotel we stayed at. It is in a shopping center and would be easy to drive right past, but don't. This was some of the best Tex-Mex we have ever eaten AND the service was outstanding! The restaurant is very clean and the staff seemed to be enjoying their jobs. We will definately be back next time we are in the area!

Try the special, he said!

My waiter described the special, not on the menu! Looked over the menu and asked about a couple of items-he pushed the special again. Okay, I’m in... glad I did!

Wonderful dining surprise in strip mall next to our hotel

This is pretty predictable Tex-Mex food served by friendly and helpful staff. The tortilla chips (as others have mentioned) are not exactly typical - cut thicker than usual - but we liked them a lot. The complimentary trio of salsas were all delicious and different. My husband had the recommended brisket chimichanga which was huge and he liked it. The servings are all very generous and the four of us were pleased. The "skinny" margarita was a special treat. We will definitely return.

Great Tex Mex and Service!!

We stayed at a nearby motel and ate here 3 of the 6 nights because the food exceeded expectations; enhanced by the quality of service, including the owner/manager who welcomed us warmly each night. The food was well priced and included large servings, plus a full bar. 2 of the 3 nights, we ordered the appetizer sampler which was over the top in flavor and required take home boxes both nights.

Great service better food!

My family very much enjoyed the enchiladas de mole and bean dip served with the chips as an appetisers. And the mojitos were perfect!

Excellent Tex-Mex!

I'm from Kentucky so I don't get authentic Tex-Mex often. I sat at the bar and got great service. I had the chefs special which is Brisket Taco and enchilada along with pork tamale. My plate was totally clean. Enough said. Prices are reasonable.

Great Tex Mex

This place is really small, blink and you’ll miss it in the strip mall. It’s amazing. I’m unusual in that I don’t like spicy hot Mexican food. You can get as hot as you like. Based on reviews I got the table side guacamole and The brisket chimichanga. They were both great. The brisket was perfectly seasoned and shredded. It was amazing. I’ll definitely come here again.
