Just OK

By 858sdtraveler2018 |

I read many good restaurant reviews for Galaxy Taco. But after trying it- the food was just OK. Not a huge selection on the menu and on the pricey side. In San Diego there are plenty of really good, reasonably priced upscale Mexican restaurants. This one is just mediocre. The staff was very pleasant and welcoming- but the service was slow. Glacially slow- and the restaurant was not that busy. Not so sure I would go back- too many other awesome San Diego Mexican restaurants to choose from.

Best fish taco!

By Pammamac |

This place is amazing! The space and decor is on point and the tacos are to-die-for! I especially loved the fish taco and think it is the best in San Diego! Be sure to check this place out...It will not disappoint.

Good food, very nice atmosphere, a bit spendy.

By geotech522 |

Galaxy Taco is not your typical Mexican Restaurant. It is a La Jolla Restaurant that serves food inspired by Mexico and it has a different vibe that is a bit edgy and kind of different. The tacos are very fresh and not the typical type you get at most Mexican restaurants. The food is quite good, but be prepared to pay a bit more than you're used to. There is a more typical Mexican restaurant about a block south that is about half the price for more usual Mexican fare. But hey, you're in La Jolla. Just enjoy.

Great vibe, great quality.

By Rob M |

Really good vibe in this place, it’s on the side of the road, nowhere near the beach or the seafront, so you sit on a terrace in the middle of a housing estate watching the world go by, it’s just great... Food was excellent albeit a bit disorganised as our starters came at the same time as our mains and the sides were forgotten completely, but still charged... everyone makes mistakes and this was put right but watching the sunset from the terrace was great.

Trendy tacos over prived

By Shelano9 |

I wish I could say the food was at least good for what we paid. The salsa was the best thing we had. The steak taco tasted burnt. Not a great experience. And it was pricey.

Out of this world! (sorry, I HAD to!!)

By Joann B |

Yum! The elote was scrumptious, the tacos were perfectly balanced tastes and our server was terrific! My last meal before leaving Sab Diego area and I already am craving going back!

Bland/Overpriced

By Rancho H |

The menu reads great and sounds delicious. Reality, the opposite. Pulled chicken taco, from a roast chicken, no flavor, cold, dry and old. Steak taco, over cooked, dry, all the food tasted like it was lying around. $9 for a kids meal. $14 drinks, this is not George's on the cove. Parked outside, server was nice. But go to a taco stand for tacos.

Finally an amazing Baja Fish taco!

By AnotherRonda |

After spending the day in Tijuana we were finally satisfied! Great cocktail menu, a nice stop close to the beach. Also enjoyed the rib eye and churro... Would certainly visit again!

Expensive and mediocre

By Captain1226 |

First of all, $20 for enchiladas! What is this Trump Tower? You'd have to be a chump to pay that. I skipped those - don't know if they were good or not, but my fish taco was just meh. The chips were bland. Pico was quite good. With all the great Mexican food in La Jolla and San Diego- this is a restaurant to miss.

Galaxy Taco

By jeffsnelson |

Great tacos, guac and chips. The short rib hash was amazing. I would highy recommend this to anyone near the La Jolla beach area.

Not worth it for free.

By woodysloan |

We had an open table gift card so decided to use it at Galaxy Taco for lunch on a weekday. We ordered chicken enchiladas and a taco. First off, we saw people who came behind us getting their food after 20 minutes of waiting. We were NOT told that the enchiladas would take 25 minutes to prepare because they were all made to order. I hoped it would be worth the wait. It was not worth a 5 minute wait. Bottom layer: a burnt blue corn tortilla with microscopic amounts of chicken and cheese on top. Middle layer: hard overcooked blue tortilla with small melted cheese. Top layer: Blue corn tortilla topped with lettuce, crema and sprinkle of cotija cheese. Small piece of avocado. Price $20. If this was the most amazing enchilada in the world - price would not be a consideration. It wasn't. Simply put - the enchilada was not able to be cut with a knife. It was that hard. The manager did comp my enchilada but they can't repay the 1/2 hour we spent waiting for substandard food. We ended up paying for the taco we ordered and gave the $20 gift card to the people sitting next to us as we would never be back and didn't want to waste the gift card. Spoke to workers at a nearby business and they said they hear complaints about quantity, quality and prices all the time. I find it hard to believe this establishment is associated with Georges. Very disappointing.

Funky beach tacos

By Angie R |

Cool place. Feels authentic yet hip and trendy at the same time. Love he bright colors of the restaurant. The avocado taco is awesome as is the fried fish. The guac is chunky and perfectly seasoned. The belle of the ball is the chocolate pudding. Save room for that. The kids menu is super limited ... tacos and quesadillas only. Slightly pricy but worth the experience. Walking distance from La Jolla Shores.

Barbacoa Baby

By Fillmore6 |

We stopped here after a rainy day on the beach looking for a quick bite. The menu was diverse but not necessarily good for a picky eater. We had kids with us and they found the menu limiting. I however had the barbacoa and carnita tacos and they were delicious! The prices were quite high though. We ordered a chicken sandwich, three taco plates, four cokes, and a churro which totaled over $100 with tip.

Great Place to Watch the Sunset in La Jolla

By Alyssa L |

I walked in at dinner time and was seated immediately. The tacos were wonderful, and I'm glad that my server warned me about them not travelling well - I was tempted to order some to take home and eat for lunch the next day! Things were busy and noisy, but not too bad.

Birthday celebration

By alpal4a |

Amazing drinks! I really like the different kind of tacos. Super flavorful. It's outdoorsy and fun and colorful.

Tacos Close to Kayaks

By Adventures W Rice and Beans |

Delicious tacos. Check! A large stack of chips with salsa. Check! Friendly staff. Check! Amazing murals. Check! A short walk from water sport rentals. Bonus!

Different

By JDL12424 |

We stopped with family for a light lunch while in La Jolla. They were not busy, we were promptly seated outside at our request. They are very child friendly. Service was good, meals were different from the expected taco fare but very good.

Fantastic lunch

By Jason L |

After a morning of sea kayaking we were ready for some tacos! The chips and salsa were delicious. The grilled Brussels sprouts with the sauce on the side were so tender and flavorful. We had the mushroom taco and the grilled fish taco and weren’t disappointed. The flavors and texture made them some of the best tacos we have eaten.

Group dinner

By lkeefer |

Had a nice evening with fellow parents on a lacrosse weekend. The cocktails were great, the waiter was strong, steered us in the right direction. The tacos were great, people really liked the chicken enchiladas. The churros and chocolate dessert was a great finish.

I never go to La Jolla without Stopping at GT

By Walk the Earth |

Galaxy Taco is what I crave for a restaurant, blending that comfortable food you love with a sense of new and different. The chefs tasting menus are truly remarkable. My last course was a Japanese inspired taco with curry filling. I paired that with a traditional Carne Asada taco. The traditional mixed with the potential of what a taco could be made for a very satisfying meal. Their margaritas are authentic and never blended in a mixer. Give GT a chance, you won't regret it!

Worst Experience at a Restaurant

By BigPapa50 |

My daughters and I were staying at a hotel in La Jolla Shores and decided to try Galaxy Taco. We went up to the hostess and told her 3 in the party. You can see in the restaurant (I use the term loosely) there were a handful of tables open. The hostess asked if we had a reservation I said no and she said it would be about 15 minutes and I said great! She left for 2 minutes came back and said a booth had just opened up, we were ecstatic and told her thanks. She asked for a name so she could put it in her ipad, as she is typing our name another hostess came over and asked what she was doing once she told her the hostess that had just walked up said since we didn't have a reservation it was going to be 30 minutes and I said she just told us a booth had just opened up and she said too bad we would have to wait. I was shocked and told her that was bad business but she didn't care. From what I saw the place is overpriced and the restaurant looks like a glorified taco bell. I recommend not eating at this establishment and take the 2 minute walk towards the beach to El Charro.

Great lunch

By Dave |

We visited here after kayaking in the morning. A trendy little spot, it has great food, and friendly service. Some decent beer on tap as well. My only negative comment would be that it's a bit pricey for what you get. However, what you do get is very good. Fish tacos were my favourite.

Date night

By Michelle E |

We split chips and guacamole and one of each of the tacos. The guacamole was rich and the chips lacked salt to balance it out. We liked the mushroom taco - the cheese and tortilla were grilled and the mushrooms were meaty and smoky. The steak taco was also good. The steak was tender and the onions added a good flavor. The chicken taco was dry and fairly bland and the fish taco needed a little seasoning and a bit more of the sauce. The tortillas were all really soft. They tasted good though. I had the surf diva special drink - chili vodka made everything taste spicy. It's a unique experience, glad we did it, but likely not coming back.

Yummy taco close to the beach

By judyblonde86 |

Chose this place randomly, ordered taco $5.5 which seems a little pricey according to me friend but the food was fresh and delicious. Staff is friendly -good looking! Glass cups✔️

Great find

By SeattleKirk |

This out of the way place in La Jolla Shores is great. We have eaten there more than 5 times and it has rapidly become one our favorite places. Don't let the name confuse you - this is not your typical taco stand. The food would best be described as gourmet Mexican food. Creative menu, great staff, caring and interested management make this a wonderful place to eat. Our waiter tonight, Leo, was very good and on previous visits, we have been served by Whitney who is a real delight. Be sure to save room for the churros which are served with warm Mexican chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. Pair with the "Clown Shoes" stout, you will be amazed. Highly recommend this place.

Imaginative and delicious

By Martha B |

Had dinner here--avocado taco, carrot salad, plus chips and salsa. Husband had quesadilla and another kind of taco. Plenty of food and delicious. Nice atmosphere and good drinks.

Great Food

By fidelaga |

Tried this place Of mexican food which is always hard choice being from Mexico, you usually find places like this is all Of The World And they usually dont have good food. To our surprise it was great tacos(Carnitas) With a Black tortilla . Guacamole Orders were Also very good. And to drink in a complete mexican mode I Ordered a Pacífico Beer which was served cold like it is supposed to. Great for family gatherings With Long tables avalailable. A definite place to stop And eat.

Good for a quick bite

By Jordan |

We ate here before a few hours on the water. Margaritas reminded us or the drinks we made in college. The carnitas taco was the best and we also enjoyed a biscuit with chorizo gravy.

Great place to fuel up for a day at the Beaches!

By AZJPG |

Food was fresh, staff was attentive parking(early) was not a problem. Brussels Sprouts were the Bomb and the Chorizo Quesadilla hit the spot.

Delicious

By Bianca T |

Great tasty food. Good service. We were pleasantly surprised. If you’re in the area, this is definitely worth a visit.

Tortillas are out of this world

By Cheryl W |

Went here for dinner on the recommendation of our kayak guide. Tacos were quite tasty especially the freshly made blue corn tortillas. Also recommend the wood grilled salsa. Had a different taste than the salad I am used to having. Was tasty on my tacos.

So so

By willl777 |

Food was very overpriced and not worth the cost. Our waitress was great and the atmosphere was good but food average and price too high.

Tacos!

By Traveller2000TO |

Excellent grilled avocado, shrimp and Baja Fish tacos. We indulged in the tres leche dessert, which was well balanced in its construction and absolutely delicious. Great staff! Very clean. Loved this find so much we ate here twice.

Such a disappointment

By Susan V |

After visiting the Birch Aquarium yesterday our party of 6 (local and out of town family) wanted Mexican food. Found this adorable restaurant, scored a patio table to enjoy the beautiful day. Friendly cheerful staff. The guacamole was great. This is all the good stuff. Then: We ordered drinks and they were mostly routine, however, my Mojito was like a sweet margarita with rum and two leaves of mint. Not at all the refreshing drink I was expecting. The 11 & 13 yr old ordered steak tacos and the waitress did not warn that they might be spicy, allowing the kids to say yeah or nay. (The adults ate the good steak out of the tacos, the children could not eat their $17 meal.) The beautiful blue corn tortillas did not hold their shape. They were soggy and just crumbled. The batter fried fish tacos had very little fish and a huge amount of batter, not a $17 meal. A very disappointing, expensive taco lunch. We don’t mind paying for a good meal, but $195 (tax and tip) for a less than mediocre meal was irritating. Sadly we won’t be going back.

Unique, clean, friendly

By alisafranz50by50 |

Female bartender was so kind and friendly. My friend had two margaritas at happy hour and she was very happy! The food was delish but a bit spicy and I don’t do spicy. The queso and chips were great! The blue tortillas were new to me and I loved them. We had the fried fish taco and the mushroom taco! Nom nom!

Great food found here!

By Elaine S |

I'd read a review of this place and had the opportunity to visit here and couldn't wait to try the blue corn tortillas with the grilled avocado and corn. They were fantastic! If you get a chance, don't pass this place up. You'll be very pleased.

Did not meet expectations...

By jgair |

We heard that they had the best tacos and margaritas in town. The tacos were mediocre - not very tasty at all - and the margaritas were average. Disappointing for sure!

Super service, delicious baja mexican and fun atmosphere

By Valerie B |

We arrived just about an hour and a half before closing on a summer Sunday evening. The evenings here are so cool and pleasant, so we decided to eat on the patio. We were greeted by our friendly server very promptly, and he was excellent at describing items on the menu and offering suggestions when we asked. We had just a bit of a wait for the food, but it was worth it. The blue corn tortillas are homemade on site fresh daily, and they were delicious. The atmosphere is casual...decorated in the trendy "Day of the Dead" décor. I haven't eaten anywhere else in this area just yet for comparison, but this menu seemed to be a bit on the pricey side. The chicken enchiladas, for instance were $20. In spite of that, I would definitely eat here again. We had a nice visit with our server after dinner and he also gave us some great local "insider" information about the local beaches to help us plan our visit. The fish tacos were my favorite.

Mushroom taco is a must

By Shelly M |

Came on a Sunday for lunch, got the chips and salsa and two tacos, mushroom and fried fish. Salsa was very good, also the green salsa that they bring in a bottle is great. Both tacos were delicious, the tortillas are so soft and flavorful, but the winner was definitely the mushroom taco. Even if you think you need meat, you don’t. This taco has so much flavor.

GREAT FOOD

By Sharon L |

We stopped in on a Friday afternoon. The house made guacamole was AMAZING, as well as the steak tacos. Service was Excellent, would highly recommend this to anyone in the LaJolla area.

amazing tacos / hip atmosphere

By Kevin |

the tacos are great there- not too expensive $5.50-$6 each. the vibe is really cool and hip, very colorful with lots of day of the dead/sugar skull decor. this place is definitely worth a try!!

Superb

By trecynon |

We rarely go to the same place twice when on holiday. We visited here for lunch three days in a row! It is that good. My favourite- fried fish taco - for just $5.50 - a bargain! We tried almost all of the menu - including the kids and liked everything. The owner (Swiss - amazing) was charming, keen to know what we thought and to share with us the passion for the food and how it is all made in house. There are lots of lunch spots on this street. We liked a few but loved this. My wife even bought a r shirt! Highly recommended.

Fun Atmosphere but Pricey for Average Food

By Scotland222 |

This is the second time that I have eaten here and there is always a fun vibe going on at the Galaxy Taco, with fun decor. There were only four of us ordering just average food that you could basically find at any restaurant in this area for less money with the same average taste. A small cup of guacamole with a plate of chips will cost you $12.00 which does not even include salsa. This place would be better suited for grabbing a few beers or a margarita and some small plates. I would not choose this restaurant for dinner anytime soon.

Authentic Secret

By Rick W |

If looking for something a little different, yet authentic in Mexican Cuisine, Galaxy Taco is worth the trip. The food and drinks are bursting with flavor and excitement. If too bold for your palate, the staff will do its best to moderate to your liking.

Some exceptional menu items

By stephen f |

The salsa was excellent. The mushroom tacos were amazing. Somehow they melted cheese crispy like and that made the dish. The trout was truly incredible.

A bit pretentious

By JRote |

The food was reasonably good (we had quesadillas and tacos) but the menu was quite pretentious. A dozen exotic margaritas is probably eight too many. And fairly loud even though not particularly crowded. Still some rough edges to smooth out.

Upscale Mexican

By arthur0215 |

Four of us had dinner here on a weeknite. Started with roasted Brussel sprouts and cauliflower. Each was excellent. Entrees included braised pork, braised beef, fish tacos. They were all good. Dessert, panna cotta, was a little disappointing. Overall, a very good meal. The atmosphere is young and funky. Service was reasonable. As others have noted, a bit on the pricey side. A fun experience if you're up for something a little different than traditional Tex-Mex.

The place for fish tacos and tortillas

By NB5 |

The blue corn tortillas were most memorable but the salsas, fish tacos and everything else were amazing as well. Definitely worth checking out.

Mexican food with a twist

By Chaching1197 |

Loved the Tamales! This is the first time I've had a purplish/blackish Tamales and it was really good! The wood fired fish was also great! Was expecting a small piece but it was a whole deboned one!

Fine location, average food, okay service

By paulkG3500FF |

Appealing entrance and funky decorations, but not enough to make up for lack luster food and okay service.

Love this place!

By jhieroni |

I've been here before so this would be my second visit and first review. The tacos are delicious (I had the steak and fried fish) margaritas refreshing and service spot on and friendly. Leonel was friendly and helpful, especially when recommending the mixed berry margarita! Definitely recommend this place, especially durning the upcoming months as they have a cool patio.

Great new place

By Clinton1 |

This is in La Jolla Shores so it is in a nice neighborhood. There is an indoor and outdoor component to the place and decorated in a fun way. The food was great. The blue corn chips were fantastic as was the avocado dips. Marissa was our server and she was excellent. Fish taco and chicken taco was wonderful and I thought the chicken quesadilla was a little bland. Mai Tai was very good and good selection of beer, taquilla etc. The whole staff was very welcoming and very friendly and when we left gave us the feeling of wanting us to come back, which of course, we will.

Nothing special, standar fare

By Papafish92037 |

We ate there totally by chance. We have been going to the shores for several dacades and saw this place. I think it caters to the younger crowd of which my wife and I are not. But that is most of the Shores is So for them it is likely unique. For us there are better taco places in town.

Awesome

By ken h |

Best tequila selection around. Great margaritas and tacos. Try the fish taco and SD vegetarian Fun and relaxed vibe.

Astronomical authentic Mexican, anchored in high quality earthly ingredients !!!!

By Northfielder2 |

Awesome selection of tacos. Meats cooked over mesquite for authentic smoked flavors. Great chips and chipotle salsa, good guacamole. Beautiful waitstaff in La Jolla, you cannot go wrong eating here!!

Really a 3.5 star....

By baglab1 |

I enjoyed the food and drinks at this restaurant.... had the lavender drink. We were a large party and were very welcomed by the staff. However, it took forever to get our food... with occasional comments of "it's coming right out" didn't help with young kids. Good salsa and guacamole and everyone liked their food.... once it arrived. Had the fried fish tacos and it was delicious. The staff accommodated the picky eater in our group by giving her a few pieces of grilled fish, without all of the taco components. A really cool setting and people were friendly... but the delay was interminable.

Decent Taco

By Popology |

If you want to have a decent taco and do not want to drive too south, this place at LaJolla is good. One thing is very striking is Very colorful Mexican atmosphere, vibrant. Food were fresh and good quality and very creative, taste was average. Outside atmosphere good too. Appetizers: Octopus, ceveche. Skip the chips and salsa, they are dead. We ordered Baja fish taco for main and loved it. Also for dessert, Flan & Churros. My wife makes great Flans compared to this. Churros comes with Icecream n chocolate, good bet. Service was average, nothing great.

Great new addition to La Jolla Shores!

By Evelyn P |

We visit La Jolla every year and were delighted to find this new addition to the La Jolla Shores restaurant line up. We had a fun evening enjoying interesting and delicious food. As northern New Mexicans, we were particularly delighted with the blue corn tortillas which were excellent. Everyone in our party totally enjoyed their food! And the service was FAB! Our server really seemed to love his job, certainly made sure we had fun and enjoyed our dinner. We will certainly return! Wish they bottled up their salsa! It was unique and yummy! My only minor criticism is that it is a tad pricy...

Upscale Mexican

By HotRod_88 |

The menu is different and exciting, the interior bright and open, and the staff was very friendly. The dishes were good, but tended to be over-salted. This rating is based on the high prices. For example, $4.00 for a cocktail highball glass filled with ice cubes and just enough horchata to wet your whistle. It's just aqua fresca and nothing special. For four people, our bill was over $40 per person without any alcohol.

Disappointed!

By girliesmama |

Not sure why people rave about this place! We took our family here upon arriving in town based on reviews. Menu is a little odd, ridiculously small portions - if you want a taco that's what you get no sides! Our young adult kids didn't even like taco enough to finish them. Waiter was unfriendly and snotty like he was too good to be a waiter even though we were friendly and tried to get him to loosen up.

Overpriced & Underwhelming

By worldexplorer88_11 |

Our party of 6 had high hopes only to leave extremely disappointed! Great location, perfectly nice ambiance, good chips and guacamole (except for cost) but after this it all went downhill. Drinks and food are comparatively much too expensive for what is served - tiny tacos and even special blue masa cannot justify price; soup was tasteless; service is poor (waitstaff did not know daily taco special at 12:30 pm and when she returned just read a list of ingredients); and, overall our group decided that the menu is not very appealing - yes, you can get umi for $3 surcharge, and yes you can order lengua which is not that common, but the mole didn't deliver, the barbacoa didn't deliver, the carnitas didn't deliver, the enchiladas didn't deliver, and at $12 for a salad (with no protein) nobody ordered. The margaritas are also expensive and just not that special. Service is not very good: water was not refilled, had to ask for soup spoons, amd waitstaff asked if everything was okay when she brought the bill - a bit late. Will not recommend given the many other restaurants in the same area and the other much better locations for Mexican food. We probably should have taken a cue that there were only two other parties dining here when we came (when we left there were a handful).

Nice Taco Restaurant Striving for Autheticity with a Twist

By Alexandre Esteban |

This is a nice restaurant that serves Mexican food with a gourmet twist. Striving to prepare food in the Baja Med Fusion type of Mexican cuisine style, we find authentic street type tacos taken to the next level. It is a casual place and nice to catch some food, casual night with the significant or friends. The decor is simple Mexican but with style. Loved teh collection of different crosses on one wall that I copied it in my house.

Couple

By jackie m |

Decor funky, drinks very nice food bland and a little tasteless. We had tacos chicken , fish and steak and they all tasted the same and our meal was pricey . We get better Mexican food in England ! Tortillas and guacamole were the best item. Service was excellent. Unfortunately would not return which is a shame

Disappointed

By tamlee4928 |

Went here with a large group for a business dinner. The staff was great, but I was disappointed with my meal. I got the carne asada and what it was was a plate of fat. There was barely any meat. I know to expect some fat, but the majority of the entree was fat. If u ever get back to La Jolla, I would give it another try though. The guacamole was excellent.

Great lunch

By lucycan |

Stopped in here for the first time. We each had a taco special which was 2 tacos, rice and beans for $17. It was not a lot of food, but filled us up. The tacos were excellent. The sides were just OK. Service was great. Nice seating options for indoor or out.

Where Dia De Los Muertos meets dinner!

By Chris D |

Fun decor, really different, easy access after going kayaking since we were still a little wet and sandy.

Wow. Best taco I've had!

By Lindsey S |

I enjoyed the drinks, food, and service very much! I'm a bit of a foodie, a culinary teacher, and love fresh flavors and good service. The avocado taco was the best taco I've every had. Great flavors. The drinks and desserts were also wonderful. Not to mention the homemade blue corn tortillas. Great meal after kayaking and walking the beach.

Uni topped ceviche!

By ZMDWG |

We raved about the ceviche and margaritas all weekend. What a fantastic spot. The eclectic decor and fresh ingredients make for a memorable dining experience. ( we agree that the chips and salsa could be better... Don't bother)

Great palce to unwind in a GREAT spot!

By matt f |

Located just off LaJolla Shores Beach on a neat couple of blocks street with many shops and restaurants this place is a "GO TO" for fresh eats....Try the fish tacos....AWESOME!

Great Location / Fun Space / Ho Hum Food

By iCritic |

This place should be GREAT, but sadly it's not. The food is bland, quality of chips are embarasing, guacamole is only OK, Sadly, Galaxy Taco should be out of this world, but too little attnetion has been given to food quality, innovation, preparation. The service people are nice enough and it's OK, but come on, it really has the potential to be GREAT.

Best Mexican in Town

By bill H |

I am not normally a fan of Mexican food but Galaxy converted me Everything we had appeared to be cooked with love and care and made from high quality ingredients Fantastic

Local and funky spot

By ldmlynn |

The food is delicious! Not your standard Mexican menu. They have the basics, but also innovative choices. Try the patio.

Great place for happy hour and good tacos

By LeLa2pups |

The service is fantastic, even though the place is mobbed during happy hour! (By Leonel). I ordered a Steak Taco, which was spicy and very tasty topped with a slice of avocado and a glass of Malbec. To follow I ordered a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with Mexican style chocolate. Delicious. The atmosphere is casual and lively. I suggest a visit to this casual and fun restaurant ! I was with a group of 40 people and it accommodated us easily. It was a great happy hour.

DELICIOUS!!

By FLmom321 |

We stopped here after our visit to Torrey Pines State Park. We were starving & our GPS said this was the closest Mexican food. We are so glad we went! Tacos (all varieties) were delicious. My daughter is gluten-free & it turns out that almost all of their products are gluten free -- they make everything right there. Service was fantastic.

La Jolla Shores

By SanDiego_is_Paradise |

Galaxy Taco is located in beautiful La Jolla Shores. Fortunately, they have their own small parking lot because parking is difficult in this tiny "town". The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating and both areas feature a fun and colorful decor. The great variety of tacos are served on fresh blue corn tortillas. The guacamole, beverages and tacos were all delicious!

Good food but a bit pricey, even for La Jolla

By BandMD |

The roasted cauliflower appetizer is outstanding! Unique and very tasty. We ordered a variety of street tacos; the pork and fish were our favorites. The Aqua Fresca is also good. A little pricey though...lunch for 3, without any alcohol, was $70+tip. But definitely worth a visit. They also have their own, adjacent parking lot, which is handy when visiting this area.

Good Food

By Marv C |

We went last night. Friendly service food came right away. The Cadillac margarita was very very good. Had Tacos Carnitas. Thank you so much!

Good lunch stop!

By Marianna P |

Our family of five enjoyed lunch here while on vacation. My husband had a margarita that he said was fresh and delicious. It took a little while for our food to arrive. My kids’ steak tacos were zippy. My Baja Fish taco was light and crispy. The pork carnitas taco I had was kind of bland. Good value for lunch, I think. We’ll go back.

Vacation

By Linda H |

The first time we’ve ever had Mexican food that was bland! We had tacos that didn’t come with cheese or sour cream. So we had to pay extra for the cheese and the sour cream. The guacamole had no seasoning added. Very bland...like eating a chopped up plain avocado with a tiny amount of tomato & onion.

Great Homemade Blue Corn Tortillas

By Carrie R |

We decided to try this place because of the homemade tortillas. We were not disappointed! The food was fabulous: made-to-order guacamole, grilled fish taco, chicken almond mole taco, chicken enchilada with red sauce - all very delicious. Our server was great - friendly and just the right amount of attention. The atmosphere was open and airy, but parking was a little tight.

A tiny bit pricey, but excellent food.

By jmj555555 |

Chips and salsa were excellent. We loved the fish taco, and the grilled avocado with corn sauce. Service was great!

Delicious

By nxnw18 |

We enjoyed our lunch here very much. Pleasant, quiet patio, delicious fish and veggie tacos, great service.

Best tacos and margaritas

By wrigley2221 |

Went there for a late lunch and the tacos and margaritas were the best we had ever had. I would especially recommend the carnitas and fish tacos. We ate at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and helpful. We liked it so much we went back a couple of days later for Sunday brunch. We will be sure to stop here again the next time we are in San Diego.

Good food but a bit pricey

By Chris B |

My wife and I stopped here to eat after doing a snorkeling & kayaking tour with a company next door. My wife had 3 fish taco's, I had 3 steak tacos with rice and beans. The tacos were very good but seems a little pricey, $23 for 3 steak tacos with rice and beans. Overall we're satisfied, service was good and prompt, restaurant was very clean.

Hands down, the VERY best Mexican restaurant in La Jolla!!!

By Hobarto |

I'm a Mexican food connoisseur so I was a little leery about trying out this place. Boy was I surprised! The restaurant has a very cool vibe, it's casual and is totally hip and welcoming. This is not your typical Mexican dive where you would order a bean burrito or a carne asada burrito. . The atmosphere is very clean and welcoming with beautiful Mexican decorations I was one in a group of 5 friends. We ordered various dinner dishes and they were all to-die-for: We started with the Fish Ceviche Tostada, two kinds of salsas (red and green). Everything was so tasty! We then had the Made to Order Guacamole with Totopos (blue corn chips). First of all, everything not only tastes delicious and authentic, but is hand-made. They have blue corn hand-made tortillas with the corn flown in from Oaxaca! Yummy.... These tortillas were delicious I don't know of any other restaurant in San Diego where I could order them. We then ordered the Grilled Blue Corn Squash Quesadilla. The presentation of the plates as well as the service was A+. I highly recommend. They also have a great bar with a huge selection of beer, wines and cocktails. The cucumber margaritas and the Cadillac margaritas were GREAT. For dessert, we ordered the Churro and it was so delicious! THIS PLACE IS A MUST!!!!

Disappointed

By Smokinboles |

Visited La Jolla for the first time. We decided on Galaxy Taco, for their fish tacos. We arrived at 7 pm on a Friday night and it was pretty full. We were greeted immediately and were seated indoors. They had indoor, patio and outdoor seating. We ordered a wine, mango margarita with spicy salt and the Totopos, which were blue corn tortilla chips with very spicy salsa, cotija cheese, crema and scallions. For entree's, my wife got the mussels, which came in a michelada sauce with white wine. There were plenty of mussels, in a rich broth with onions and cilantro and large slices of grilled bread. I got tacos: fried fish and steak with nopales salsa. The blue corn tortillas totally fell apart so I finished them with a fork. There was such a small amount of fish that I would estimate there was 2 ounces. Same with the steak taco but the char was excellent, regardless of the tortilla. There were a good amount of nopales, as well as beans, radishes and pico. The pinto beans were served cowboy style, not fried or refried. The lack of coasters meant that every time we took a sip of any drink, it dripped all over the table, arms and laps. The total came to $70.81 plus tip, which was way too high given the food quality. No return in the future for us.

Top Notch Food and Experience!

By Slainte1969 |

Not only is the food amazing, but the customer service and wait staff are some of the best. Could eat the guacamole and tacos all day!! A must visit.

Very nice!

By WombatBen |

Very nice place with great ambiance and decor. The "totopos" were VERY spicy!! Maybe a bit too much. Drinks are not expensive.. a nice place for a quick afternoon snack!

Awesome Tacos!

By Rica603 |

My boyfriend and I took a day trip up to La Jolla and came upon Galaxy Taco. It was a cool day and they had the restaurant open so there was a nice breeze coming in and out of the place. We chose to sit on the covered patio and enjoy the weather. The staff was very down to earth, friendly and funny. The guacamole was fresh and flavorful. And the tacos were outstanding. My favorite was a shrimp taco and the short rib mole taco that I still think about. We each had a the Death Star Margarita which was fantastic. The decor was eclectic and festive with strung lights and a lot of color. We had a wonderful, relaxed time and even went for a walk on the beach afterwards even though it was cool. If you are in La Jolla I would recommend this place. Its perfect if you are headed to the beach and then want to walk up and have a great drink and some good food with friends and family.

Tasty, but expensive for tacos

By ericgE255MG |

decent service, indoor and outdoor seating, but no view. food is good, but not as good as Tacolicious...

Family lunch

By Kristie D |

Took my 2 teenage boys there for lunch after the beach. The seating and staff were great! Great patio and ambiance. Started w chips and salsa...chips were tasteless. I had fish tacos, which were great! My son had a cheese quesadilla that was completely bland. Our bill was $50 for 4 tacos, cheese quesadilla (that no one ate) and chips and salsa. As much as we loved the vibe, we won't go back. Wanted to love it

Great SW Food

By Steve B |

Visited Galaxy tacos with our friends from Carlsbad. Great tacos and great enchiladas. We split a pitcher of margaritas with the guacamole & chips. Very tasty. Would highly recommend if you are in the area.

Good service but not the best food

By Susan B |

I was with a party of 3 and ate at Galaxy Taco last night. We had the Avocado Tostada with the crickets, Michelada Steamed Mussels, sweet potato taco plus mushroom taco, and then the fish taco with another mushroom taco. The food looked picture-perfect. The only problem with the food is an over-use of lime as a seasoning. The actual flavors of the food don't come through because of so much lime. Service was great. The server stopped by often to make sure everything was fine.

Fun and family friendly

By J Eliza A |

Galaxy taco is fun and colorful. The menu has a few classics and a few unique items. Their salsa was fantastic- my picky son loved it, even though it’s a bit spicy! Tacos come with rice and beans. The waitress was sweet, and made great suggestions. Loved the artwork and decor! Bathroom was very clean as well.

Good and quick near the beach

By Andie S |

Tacos were good, definitely not the best shrimp or fish tacos I've had. Prices were a little high too, but overall good food.

Pleasure visit

By thejusticeleague |

My wife and I along with some friends visited this amazing place and we had a wonderful time. The food was great and the staff is super friendly. I ordered the taco with mushrooms and it is super hot but super tasty. All the food is great so you cannot go wrong. The dessert is even better. We had a great time

Great, unusual Mexican food

By jill p |

The food here was a bit pricey, but very good. Lots of gluten free options. You can get standard Mexican food, but I preferred the more creative choices.

This Would've Been a 5, BUT $8 for chips/salsa???

By Vacationers62 |

Three friends and I had lunch here last week. The tacos are delicious, but not especially inexpensive (2 for $12, no accompaniments). But what really irked us was the $8 chips/salsa charge, which are complimentary at most Mexican restaurants. On top of that was some sort of "covid surcharge" also. I ended up paying $44 for lunch. Yes, the food is amazing and the servers are great, but paying for chips and salsa, REALLY???

Best Mushroom's Taco ever!

By Nany M |

I loved the atmosphere, the staff and I really really really loved the mushroom taco. The only probably is this is a little bit small. Also, you can have a huge portion of Chips and Salsa for 4,00 dollars. Unfortunately, they charge for extra cotija cheese.

For adults

By Jennifer W |

Had lunch here today with my daughter and her soccer team. The staff was overwhelmed with the amount of people we had. My family got our food in an adequate amount of time, but many members of the team had not ordered and eventually left as we paid our bill. The girls didn’t like the food and I had to get my daughter something else when we left. I had a steak taco, which was ok but thought it was overpriced. The lemonade was the best part. Definitely try that if you go. Also, I had the sun directly at me and I left with a sunburn. I’m glad I tried it out but will probably not come back.

Good Brunch

By Rich P |

Sunday brunch with the family. First time here for all of us. Not disappointed. Good selection of food and drinks. Got there around 11:30 and it was pretty empty but started to fill up by the time we left around 90 minutes later. Food has good flavor and presentation. Some large portions and can easily be shared . Pretty good overall.

A Diamond

By Diablosullins |

Fun place. The food was excellent. Its a modern twist on Mexican food. The Margaritas were very good. 2 negatives for us. Slow service and beware they add a 3.5% fee for employees.

Decent drinks and appetizers

By mr_hand |

Stopped in here while waiting for a friend to meet us and had a couple drinks and some appetizers. It has a cool vibe and is more true Mexican that Tex mex food.

Don’t go!

By ChrisStephanie |

Expensive and not that good. My son got a steak quesadilla and barely ate it. We Got tacos and just not good.

great lucnh spot

By Spooky C |

We really enjoyed the specialty drink - cucumber margaritas! The tacos and guacamole were great. the service was quick and the prices reasonable.

Late lunch

By jrh260 |

Service was good. They promote their tortillas, which are good but in my humble opinion are not as amazing as the advertising. The food was solid but just that. It didn't stand out but it was a nice lunch. Fish tacos were good but not my favorite.

Great Guacamole

By Tattalat |

Tacos ,the new rage is well represented here in la Jolla shores. The guacamole, chips, salsa and beers are very good. The tacos were also good but the steak taco was my favorite. A couple of those some XTRA Guac and a beer now we got the right combo. Very very nice space open airy and very So Cal. A day in La Jolla is special and to cap it off with a nice meal at Galaxy will continue the roll. Enjoy it's not cheap but it's really a nice place to eat. The Enchiladas that my buddy ordered was also very good.

Take the bearded bartender's recommendation on a good tequila cocktail

By kayla530 |

This place has great food and is an awesome place to go for a vacation cocktail. When I went there, the bearded bartender (I believe his name was Josh) made me a delicious tequila drink- he is extremely knowledgeable about Mezcal and the best liquors on the market. When I was there, I just took his recommendation of what to pair with my food and loved what he came up with. Now every time I see one of his amazing cocktails on Instagram it makes me yearn to go back down to San Diego just to eat at Galaxy Taco again.

Food was not good.

By JL1026 |

Stopped here based on some positive reviews we had read. Overall we were not impressed. We ordered a starter of guacamole which was decent. My husband and I both then got the chicken tacos. That's when things went a bit awry. Something tasted foul about the meat. We ended up taking the meat out of all of the tacos and just eating the rice/beans with the tortillas. The only shining part of the whole meal was our server was very friendly and attentive. We did not complain about our food but she did notice we had not eaten the chicken in our tacos. She immediately offered something else which we declined. When we got the bill she had taken both meals off and only charged for the guacamole and drinks. It seems like a cool atmosphere and maybe we just got a bad batch but it definitely left a bad taste in our mouths (literally and figuratively.)

Just for a snack

By Virginia M |

Great waiter and a nice place to eat mexican food and great cocktails. Great place for children also.

Great artisan mexican

By KarenG144 |

I ate there twice - once for lunch and once for brunch. The shrimp taco and the shrimp quesadilla (brunch) are fantastic as is the guacamole. The Lavender Fields margarita has a really interesting taste - loved it. The staff are very friendly. This is a great place.

Delicious!

By FLGIRL7 |

After our kayaking adventure in the Pacific ocean we stopped by next door at Galaxy Taco for margaritas and tacos. Everything was delicious. We had totopos, chips and guacamole, and various tacos. I recommend the carnitas tacos but they were all great (at least the ones we tried- chicken, fried fish, steak, shortrib and carnitas.) The margaritas were satisfying as well. Reasonably priced (given all the other choices) and great flavor. The only downside is that service was a bit slower than we would of liked from a drink perspective.

Perfect Lunch

By montecarlo5542 |

My wife and I met some friends for lunch after a kayak adventure. The service was outstanding! The location is child friendly as well. We had chips and guacamole as an app, really tasty. Of course, everyone ate tacos and they were good as well. We will definetly return!

Casual upscale Taco Shop

By SDTraveler515 |

A high end taco shop. the tacos are delicious, the price is expensive for a taco. Super casual restaurant. Pleasant service. tiny on-site parking otherwise it's search for street parking.

Great place to relax and eat

By ABQvolcanogirl |

The blue corn tortillas for the tacos were fresh, soft and held together all of the delicious ingredients. This is definitely the place to try something new and step out of the box a bit. Wash your food down with an ice cold beer and just relax for a bit. Foods to try -- grilled avocado taco and the rice pudding made with coconut milk!

Expensive but decent food

By Lyanna L |

Came here with a group of friends when we met up in La Jolla. We'd always wanted to try this place and we weren't disappointed. I will say the food is upscale Mexican, somewhat authentic. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food perhaps this isn't your scene as you can get better at the hole in the wall places. But it is a nice place to eat and have a few drinks in the afternoon california sunshine. As a group we ordered chips, guac, and salsa. It was all delicious. I ordered tacos for my meal and the avocado taco was the best one. Highly Recommend. I also recommend ordering the tamales for those who are hungrier than a taco or two. I would also say that the tacos are a good budget choice. As far as drinks are concerned - I had the homemade Jamaica which was delicious and my friend ordered the Horchata which was also good. I didn't have any alcohol but friends said drinks were strong and good.

Beach Lunch

By drcon100 |

Galaxy Taco is within walking distance from La Jolla Shores. It's a bit farther than most places to eat near the beach. The best was the roasted veggie salsa. It was really good.

Ok Food - Portions are small

By SheriffBTJustice |

Catering mainly to summer tourists, the place is quite eclectic and offers a diverse menu with many items. We had the grilled fish taco's..which were good, but simply not enough. I thought they needed to add a little more to the plates! Drinks were good, beer was cold and Anthony our server did an outstanding job!

Best Tacos Ever!

By KLDSanDiego |

We had the Barbacoa and the fish tacos, they were fabulous and just one was filling......could have had two, we will be back!

Out of this world!

By Melanie T |

The tacos were SUPER FRESH! The guacamole was great and the salsa was wonderful! Luckily we were able to walk in without a reservation on a Friday night! There were several Maserati's in the parking lot - so it shows it must be a top choice of the locals too.

Refreshingly Authentic Mexican

By smp788 |

Delightful atmosphere for refreshingly authentic Mexican food. (Don't worry, that doesn't mean it has to be spicy. It's as spicy as you would like). Warm and cozy inside, airy and quiet outside. Good for vegetarians and families with kids. Dogs permitted in the outside seating area. Great service.

Modern Mexican food close to La Jolla Shores

By mopsmarg |

Loved the festive decor with indoor and outdoor seating. The food was not typical burritos and tacos. The presentation was very nice and the food was delicious. The Huevos Rancheros with the bonus Chili Rellenos was very good. My friend has the Posole and said it was the best he'd ever had. Everyone was pleased, but I have to admit it's a little disappointing to go to a Mexican place in SoCal and not get chips and salsa on your table for free.

Good vibe

By AllisonL65 |

I enjoyed the vibe and decor of the restaurant but as a solo diner during the dinner rush I felt a bit neglected in terms of service. The avocado taco was absolutely delicious but the chicken taco served as is was so incredibly spicy that it was almost inedible.

Finally!

By Kimberly K |

We moved to SD in August and we are continuously searching for a local place to pass an evening with friends, eat good food and not be overwhelmed by the amount of noise. We had it all! Great conversation means a lot while tasting good food! We love it here.

Bonkers price for the food

By Soutanglie |

We eat as a family, with. I starters, a few drinks and four entrees. Mediocre service, reasonable drinks, and the food was OK. But the price - $140 - was just bonkers. My chicken dish (3 corn flat breads, some sauce, a bit of garnish and a hint of chicken) for $20 is just crazy. Avoid.

Lovely outside seating, yummy chips, salsa and guac

By GlobalTravelerKim |

We visited this place straight from the airport, wanting Mexican in California. The outside seating under the sun and yummy tacos put us right into the vacation mode. If you're in the area, stop by for a great meal that says "Welcome to San Diego".

Straight from the beach to lunch

By LisaM253 |

Got hungry after a few hours at LaJolla beach so headed here for lunch. Outside and open-air seating available so you don't worry about any lingering sand on your feet. The kids gobbled down their tacos and sides from institutional-looking metal trays (like old-school hot lunch). The tacos are served on small tortillas so 2-3 are filling; the pitcher of margaritas hit the spot! Ceviche, fresh chips, salsa and guacamole were delicious. We split a churro 7 ways for dessert, served with a scoop of ice cream and chocolate ganache - just right

Nice dinner - met with old friends

By Debski11 |

A bit cool for a cloudy evening in May. Very nice service - very attentive. Enjoyed the meal. I had the braised duck legs which were good. Guests had enchiladas - I'd like to come back for the tacos!

Tasty Tacos with Patio Seating

By T4travels |

Delicious meal. Accommodated a large party with outdoor seating. Fun night. The server managed the large group well and was adept at splitting the bill efficiently.

More than tacos ...

By SRWelch00 |

Thought we were "taco'ed out" by the time our last day in La Jolla came along, but glad we went here. Another terrific, creative San Diego establishment. Had the fruit salad -- surprisingly good -- and the octopus tostada. Wow ...

Above a Four Delicious

By Marc F |

I wouldn’t normally rate a taco restaurant above a 4, but it his is no ordinary place to eat Mexican food. I found Galaxy Taco on the food network cooking channel on a show featuring 15 restaurants in the country offering superior quality, flavor and service, and this place earns my vote. It’s great to find an eating establishment that offers such excellent dishes that eating one thing makes you Want to return to try Everything on the menu, it’s That Good. We started with chips and salsa and guacamole, had ceviche, and that could have been enough to call it a meal. My wife had the shrimp quesadilla, it was too big, too thick and full of Huge shrimp, cheese and other ingredients to cut like a piece of pie and eat by hand, a fork was absolutely needed. I’ve never had shrimp this big and delicious in Mexican food, incredible !!! Every delectable morsel of ceviche was eaten and enjoyed. I ordered 2 tacos, one steak and one grilled fish, both excellent and filled with excellent ingredients. My meal was topped off with (3) of their Barrio Lager, the perfect beverage to wash it all down. It was the service that put this experience over the top and earned a 5. Our waitress was kind, informative, helpful and was present any time we needed anything. We’ll return again and again because there’s nothing else like it. Another final note, I was able to reserve a table online and got a confirmation, another delight for a first timer. We like to try new things and Galaxy Taco earned our business for life, can’t wait to return from out of state. I recommend this restaurant Very highly for everyone that likes Mexican food, I guarantee you’ll enjoy it ! Whether you’re looking for something lite or a Big meal, you’ll Find It Here !!! And served with a smile and plenty of attention. Enjoy ! 5 Stars !

great tacos

By michelesmith2016 |

we had a fruit salad starter and wood grilled salsa and chips to start and tacos to follow - the steak being the best but the fish pretty good too. The margaritas (I had the today special) were good but expensive. the whipped coconut raspado dessert was good too. friendly and attentive waiter. A little overpriced for the type of diner but overall a very pleasant experience

Casual Scrumptious Entertaining Value

By Michael M |

If you aren't brave enough to wonder the Taco trucks in ChulaVista/South Bay to get three delicious & inventive Tacos, Taco 🌮Tuesday with guest Chef's at Galaxy Taco is amazingly great value for three delicious gourmet Tacos at about $18. Good/reasonable beer & wine list. If he's there track down the Limoncello guy & try his locally made "cellos" Fun crowd some quite and more boisterous sections. Go early or late. This quality & vale at Galaxy Taco is not a secret.

Fish taco and chill...

By Lee T |

It's not often your hear of a fish taco place in Souther California where you say to yourself, "I really have to go there sometime." Galaxy Taco is one of those places that you must visit not just for it's food, but for the experience. If I had to choose one good meal to have the rest of the week, Galaxy would be at the top of my list. The menu is broken up pretty standard with starters under $15 to included tasty choices such as Mahi or Shrimp Ceviche and Grilled Octopus. Standard Mexican shared items (i.e. chips and salsa, quesadilla)c an also be found for under $15. Main courses are north of $20 but lack side dishes you'd normally find at a Mexican family restaurant. I stuck to the tacos and ordered a Baja Fried Fish Taco (cabbage, pico de gallo, chipotle crema, avocado), Flan for dessert and iced tea to drink. The taco was served on a black corn tortilla. The fish was very crispy and juicy without the fry oil; the pico had just the right amount of salt to taste while the chipotle and avocado added a soothing/spicy touch. Most fish tacos have what I call the "white sauce" but my plate was clean after I devoured it in four bites. The texture of the flan was unlike any other I've had or maybe it was just a different style. I've had flan from all over the world...Spain, France, Singapore and even Japan. The flan here seemed more like a flat or low calorie serving cheesecake. The taste also fit the texture which I found kind of uncomfortable. Here I was expecting a nice silky flan but instead, a flat cheesecake. Not much to complain about though, it was tasty. Service was very prompt and friendly; from the hostess to the server, they made me feel very welcome and were very personable.

A suposed hand made tortilla does not a taco make.

By Retired Museum Lover |

Over priced Tacos! Real nice waiter, but really, as a Mexican the place is a Gringoized Idea of tacos. My wife's taco had no flavor, the meat was not really flavorful and the shrimp was blah. Just one tortilla told me the owner didn't care about flavor or quality just a cash cow to build up for their retirement.

Fabulous tacos

By ellenmary |

Really excellent high quality, unusual Mexican food, really much tastier than most . So good we came twice in our 3 day trip

Mexican Plus

By Alva |

We walked down from the Hotel La Jolla ( 5 minutes) and Being a Monday got a table immediately . The restaurant is spacious,TVs at the bar but the patio area is less noisy. The menu is interesting , entree items include pork shoulder, trout and ( which I had) braised short rib. The food is delicious, my entree included a flight of 4 different salsas and the homemade guacamole is chunky and very good. Really good food, friendly prompt service , thanks !

Fun Place; Tasty Food

By TennesseeGypsee |

I had read about slow service so we ordered appetizers and entrees at the same time. No worries -- we were promptly served our delicious apps--two kinds of ceviche which we couldn't get enough of and really excellent guacamole. The grilled octopus was tender, although one of us thought it was fishy/salty. We enjoyed a pitcher of margaritas with it. We thought $40 was a lot, but three of us had two glasses each so it turned out to be a good deal. We loved their avocado tacos -- unreal good! Really excellent chicken enchilados and the carne aside did not disappoint. Definitely try the churros -- hot and cinnamony with a great bittersweet chocolate dipping sauce. The service was polite and well-timed. Loved the Galaxy Taco!

Great place for lunch or dinner after the beach.

By David B |

Spend a day at the public beach in La Jolla then stop in for a great lunch or dinner at Galaxy Taco. Decent appetizers, solid entree selection. Pulled pork and fish tacos were excellent. Wait staff was friendly, helpful and efficient. Have a Michelada while your at it.👍👍

Great Space

By iCritic |

This place has all the potential to be great. But sadly the food is just OK. Mediocre ingredients and poor preparation make this a miss. They must be relying on their location and cool vibe - but beyond dropping by for a drink, there are much better food options.

Octopus Tostado!

By Cotati101 |

Our favorite dish of the day, the octopus tostado! The octopus was cooked to perfection and the flavor was amazing. The blood orange habanero salsa was perfect, flavorful and not overly spicy. The manager was wonderful, she was helpful with choosing my next margarita made with mescal and strawberry shrub, an absolute delight.

Good food and beer, gluten-friendly, but prices a bit high

By dank120 |

This was our first stop on our first trip to La Jolla Shores for lunch. If you're staying in La Jolla Shores, the location is great, the atmosphere is cool, and the food is pretty good, but 5-6 bucks for one small street taco is a bit high. For the Celiac in our bunch, they were very accommodating and he didn't have any problems, so that was a plus. I'd go there again, but still think the taco prices are way too high.

Trendy and different--with colorful and creative tasty treats

By CaFoodRepublic |

You feel like you landed south of Rosarita in Baja--wonderful mexican food platters with plenty of well cooked meats and tasty seafood dishes. The fish tacos were the best I have had in San Diego, though a little on the small side. But well worth it, and the mixed drinks and beers will keep you happy. Its big and boisterous, but the vibe is great, and though in la jolla, its really out of the center down near LJ shores and down he street from the marine room. great parking. efficient. very friendly. kids will love it. and if you have sand on your feet, they are all the more welcoming!

Love the decor, tacos...not so much.

By Caroline L |

We tried this place after seeing it in an article about taco joints. The decor and ambiance are great. If you like Day of the Dead, you’ll really appreciate all the murals and artwork that line the walls. I think that’s what gets this place 3 stars. Our service was friendly and attentive and that was a plus too. The tacos however were pricey at $5.75 a taco and they were small and kind of bland. The steak taco was over cooked so the meat was dry. Same story on the carnitas taco. Pretty much we all agreed that the priciest tacos we had in San Diego were the least flavorful. But the place has potential because again, we enjoyed the atmosphere, just not the food.

Stop in for a Margarita and Tacos

By Scotland222 |

Stopped in here for a late lunch after two hours of kayaking in the ocean. We worked up an appetite and ordered a margarita and some guacamole with chips. Their guacamole is excellent! Some of the best I have had in a long time. There were only two of us and it was a very generous serving of our appetizer and we ate every bite of it. It was that good! It seems that eating tacos in La Jolla and San Diego is a daily thing if you live in California. So we did what the locals do and ordered the tacos. I had a steak taco and a tempura shrimp taco. Both were very tasty and very filling. The grilled steak taco was spicier then I expected and I can take a lot of spice. It was still very good. My favorite though was the tempura shrimp taco. This one was fantastic! We sat outside in a half booth. The weather there is perfect most days so when I can, I enjoy sitting outdoors to soak up some sunshine. The service was excellent. Anything we needed, our server was on top of it. Love the atmosphere! Great food, great service!

Awful! and expensive

By Stacy L |

This was the absolute worst mexican food I have ever been served. The chips were stale, no salsa was put on the table except for a squeeze bottle of a green tomatillo sauce. The guacamole had no flavor AT ALL. The Tlayuda did not have charred corn puree and no mushrooms. It was basically queso fundido with some charred dried corn on top. The Enmolada enchilada con mole negro was NOT mole, it was some sort of brown sauce that someone poured cinnamon in and tried to pass off as mole, disgusting. During the middle of dinner all of a sudden the lights were turned up so bright it was like being in a chem lab. The margaritas were decent but expensive. The whole meal was outrageously expensive. How dare eater.com put this on their places to eat in San Diego!

Yummy !

By Sharon S |

Delicious tacos, fresh ingredients, fun atmosphere. Highly recommend. And a short stroll to the beach for the sunset.

Tacos Tacos and more

By Don H |

Our first visit and we were impressed by the selection of tacos. We opted for chips and guacamole to start. It was some of the most flavorful we have experienced. We selected the Grilled fish, Shrimp and Carnitas tacos. All served on blue corn tortillas. The side dish of marinated veggies with jalpenos was perfect. A full bar which seemed very active. Limited free parking next to the restaurant.

Overpriced Salt and Grease

By randal v |

Where to start... Overprice, pretentious and salty as hell. It would be nice if this place focused on the food and service instead of trying to be hip. The food isn't that good, it is a poor value, almost inedible because of the salt, and greasy. The service is iffy at best. Oh yeah, they serve crickets, neat-o.

perfecto

By kimberly g |

great little taco place with the best tacos. waitstaff was friendly and attentive. try the octopus empanada!!

Underwhelming

By FlyingFishHula |

We were expecting to be impressed based on the reviews. Food was adequate, but nothing special. Fish tacos were greasy and overdone.

Good food and service

By Indah Edlightz |

Came in for lunch after a long walk on the La Jolla beach. This place has some booths inside but most of the seating is outside. We had a great table with view of the street to watch ppl as they walked to the beach. The staff is very friendly and the manger or owner made sure to come by our table to welcome us which was nice. Food was pretty good and we had a variety of tacos so it was nice to see all the garnishes. personally I found the portions small but everyone else was satisfied with their. They did run out of churros? so we didnt get to have any which was a bummer.. it was only lunch time. but maybe next time.

we enjoyed our experience

By Luca I |

very good ambience and atmosphere here and the food is outstanding. We had a fish taco, the queso fondido and the vegetable tamales Everything was good. Service was fast and professional Good selection of drinks Price in the average of the location

Pricey but worth it

By Vanessa L |

Had the vegetarian options - mushrooms and avocado. Avocado was a little overwhelmed by the charred/grilled flavor, but they obviously make their own tortillas or get them locally, and they were delicious. They were certainly more expensive than the price points around San Diego, but they were special.

Blue corn sweet potato quesadilla rocks!

By chipdesigner |

The Grilled Blue Corn Sweet Potato Quesadilla is delicious and was an excellent appetizer. Then we enjoyed the tortilla soup - the waiter described it as a mix of fresh flavors - and he was spot on, very fresh and tasty. We had two tacos - the chicken mole and the steak azteca - both were very well prepared and delicious. The steak azteca was the spicier of the two, but I'm a sucker for a delicious mole sauce like the one on the chicken. The margaritas had great fresh lime flavor, highly recommended. Great service from our waiter Josh, attentive but not intrusive. An excellent meal at a reasonable price right in the heart of La Jolla Shores.

Expensive mexican food

By AnaYadira |

Taste was OK but service was slow, food was expensive and chips and salsa were NOT complementary. There are many better options nearby. Not coming back.

Taco not well

By runforest |

Went here for a fish taco and was disappointed . Service was friendly but food just okay. Reasonable facility but in San Diego expect better tacos.

Out of this world

By Kelly E |

Excellent fish taco as well as guacamole. The corn tortillas were amazingly good. Tried the grilled cauliflower and it was cooked perfectly. The drinks were enjoyed my our group. Head on over to see what it’s all about. You won’t be sorry. The waitress was very good!! Can’t remember her name but she was from Florida and provided great service. Need more like her in the restaurant world.

Wonderful beachy vibes, a pretty deco with some doodles on the wall. Love the deep fried fish taco, must try! I went there twice in two days... 100% visitation rate 😆

Great Tacos & Pina Coladas madd from Scratch!

By Jamie F |

We tried the guacamole, the ceviche, the tacos, the enchiladas, and the Pina coladas! All were fantastic! The Pina coladas are made from scratch with real coconut cream, no ready made mix. I would absolutely come back. The fried shrimp taco and barbecoa taco were my favorite. My husband loved the steak taco.

Gluten free galore

So many options from knowledgeable bartenders to being able to eat their chips. Best guacamole ever. Queso fundido with shishito peppers was great. My hubby's pork dish was amazing, and I normally don't really like pork! The steak dish looked wonderful as well. I had tacos and the yummy, not quite traditional flan... So good! Everything was so fresh, healthy, and delicious. Definitely modern Mexican. No crappy tequila up in this joint either ;)

Great Mexican but expensive

Galaxy Taco is a cool and more refined Mexican place. It is in the la Jolla shores business area so a short walk from the beach. They have a good selection of margarita and drinks. There food is good and I liked the octopus tostada. It is a bit expensive if you get a few drinks.

FANTASTIC TACOS

We had a note on our 'to do list' to visit Galaxy Tacos~ My boyfriend was flying in from Australia and he saw this restaurant previewed on the plane of one of a few Taco places to eat the best tacos~ So we did.... We each had a steak and fish Taco~ delicious!! We would gladly return for more when in La Jolla~

Amazing food, service, and atmosphere

Eight of us walked in for lunch, got seatedright away, and ordered some amazing drinks. Our server Anthony was great! the queso and guac which were great, but overshadowed by the incredible Tacos. Obviously i recomend the fish taco, but what impressed me the most wast that of the 4 tacos I ate/took a bite of (fish, shrimp, pork, and steak) each tasted great and different from each other [not just the same tacos with different meats] Next time i am in La Jolla, i will be sure to stop at Galaxy Taco!
