Highly recommend

By Tim R |

My large family (eight of us) had a wonderful dinner and the staff was very accommodating for our size and special orders.

Classic Chinese fare - solid, reasonable prices

By MNWorldTraveler |

Good spot for lunch, or a very casual dinner. Very extensive menu, seems authentic. Ambiance is a bit odd - seems to have a lot of regulars; I felt like an outsider here. Not a good venue if you want to have a drink with your meal. Ultimately a good hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant.

Great Chinese food. Great service. Go.

By Liz L |

Wonderful food. We ordered several dishes. All were delicious. Sour soup, spring rolls. Sweet n sour chicken. 2 beef dishes. The stars were stir fried green beans. And the chili fried chicken. Mostly Chinese patrons. Crowded lively. Unpretentious atmosphere. Great service. Portions were generous. Reasonable. We loved it. Highly recommend.

Acceptable But Not Special

By Zoom_Gotti |

Ho-hum Chinese restaurant on Kearny just south of the Hilton. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. The menu is diverse and prices are moderate enough, but the service is sloppy. And no particular atmosphere of note. Note the hours; this restaurant locks up at about 9:30. If you need later than that, try nearby Washington or Jackson streets.

Excellent Chinese! Was a good find!!

By MadsTraveller |

We stumbled across this restaurant after seeing a lot of the other Chinese restaurants with good reviews had huge queues down the street! This looked busy but quieter than others. We had a set menu which was around $15 each and was soup of the day , spring rolls and then a choice of main ( and choice of rice ) lots to choose from. This suited us perfectly but there is a full menu too. Food was quick and initial service was fast but we did have to wait to get attention for the bill. Very good quality food at a very good price.

Good Food at Good Prices

By SgtBuffy |

This restaurant offers a good alternative to over-priced hotel restaurants for breakfast or lunch. The menu has both American and Chinese items at reasonable prices. We ordered the BBQ Pork Won Ton Noodle Soup, but I saw other patrons order basic American breakfast items like eggs, pancakes, ham, bacon, hash browns and toast and they all looked good. The service is pleasant and there is never a wait. It seems like there is a mix of locals and tourists. The restaurant is located next to the Hilton Financial District and easily accessible from nearby hotels.

Good Food, Comfortable Atmosphere

By highcountrytraveler |

My wife and I were staying at the Hilton Hotel on Kerney Street in San Francisco and needed a quiet place to meet a friend for dinner. We had just walked out of another, more upscale Chinese restaurant because it was so loud that we could not hear each other. The Garden Restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but it is very pleasant inside, with white table cloth covered tables spaced far enough apart so you do not feel you are part of the conversation at the next table. The food is very good, with ample portions served family-style, which is normal for traditional Chinese restaurants. The service was friendly and excellent.

Great Food, Fast Service

By raingurl |

I picked up dinner here one night, to go. Service was pleasant and fast and the food was delicious. I ordered the orange chicken with steamed rice and a side of egg rolls. Can't go wrong.

Superb food

By Jo E |

An authentic Chinese restaurant that I would highly recommend. The service was prompt, friendly and the food was delicious. We are on holiday from England and we each enjoyed a different dish. Better than some of our Chinese restaurants back home.

Better than I expected

By David K |

I stopped here because it was across the street from my hotel, I had just arrived, and was too hungry to look around. The food was quite good and the serving was very generous. I didn't go away hungry. Surprisingly, one item which came with the dinner and is almost always mediocre - egg flower soup with corn - was really excellent. I could have eaten 3 more bowls of it.

Very good Chinese food at very reasonable prices.

By geisslerm |

I enjoyed very good Chinese food at very reasonable prices. Since I understand that the wait staff in most Chinese restaurant will not be warm and fuzzy, I appreciated their quick and efficient service. Their daily specials are adequately priced, and don't be afraid to order the spicy version of their dishes if you like it hot!

Garden

Stopped here for a late dinner on the way home. The meat with mushrooms and vegetables was delicious. Beer was also tasty

Chinese food that is as sweet as sugar

By dollsiedog |

Wow. Our post ballgame chance at this restuarant was a crowd pleaser. The BBQ pork is moist and sweet not covered in a dry red glaze like backhome. We had several different meals that you can get in any place on main street america and every single choice was better here in san francisco. Our party of 8 had no problem finding a table and enjoyed every different selection. The kept us away from foods that one member was allergic to as well.

Nice food, good portion size, reasonably priced

By Philip C |

We ate here last night. Initially put off by the price of soup until we were made aware that the $10 it cost was for a large bowl serving up to 4 people. Main courses also generous in size and like the soup, tasty. Service good. I'd eat here again.

So so

By Rauledgardo |

Be clear om what you order, we wanted steamed fish fillet , but got a whole sea bass ($56.00). Spring rolls and dumpling bland, also the Mongolian Beef. Yet most clientele was oriental. Return? NO Wine selection poor, same brand Merlot or Cab

Good food at reasonable price

By travelmaven_7 |

I stopped here after my delayed flight from Burbank. It was convenient, and I was hungry. It did not disappointed. There is a one price menu for one person and the back of their menu. Bingo! That was exactly what I was looking for. Soup of the day, egg roll, and entree, including steamed rice, all for $11.95. I got a glass of Cabernet for $7. All I needed . I ate there again later in the week too.

Lovely food, great service

By 375claire |

Location great as we were staying at the Hilton Financial. Service very quick and friendly and food reasonably priced. Food was very tasty, my only warning would be that the portions are huge!!

Good Food

By cjlulu |

My Senior Group the Goldenaires had lunch reservations at Garden Restaurant before seeing our play. The service was very friendly and professional. The food was excellent. We were served chicken salad, green beans, sweet and sour pork, bbq rice, broccoli beef, chow menu. Everyone enjoyed the food. I definitely will be back.

Delicious food in an inviting atmosphere.

By Al N |

Parked at the public lot at the Hilton next door and after passing the Garden Restaurant, I was immediately drawn in by the warm, inviting atmosphere on a rainy night. The smiling gentleman who sat me was friendly and attentive. I ordered a combo for one which came with a steaming bowl of hot/sour soup, egg roll, barbecue pork fried rice and beef with scallions and ginger. A pot of hot tea accompanied my meal. The beef was tender and succulent and the combination of the scallions, ginger and the flavorful sauce was very satisfying as was the steaming side of fried rice.

Average food, higher price, automatic tips

By mdikov |

We were a party of 4 and ordered four different meals. One of them was really good the rest of them (one was the seafood pot) tasted bland and were not really that good. My wife did not feel well after she this meal. The staff was polite, however the wait was quite a bit and they charged a 15% service fee, which I always find insulting to the customer, who does not have option to adjust the gratitude. I'll not visit this restaurant again.

Best Chinese food at reasonable prices

By Barbara K |

I was here several years ago, and I wanted to see if it was still any good. While they no longer serve breakfast, they have THE BEST spring rolls ever! We ordered the spring rolls, pea shoots sautéed with garlic, and the beef with noodles, all of which was fabulous. It was so good, we came back the next day and had the noodle soup, spring rolls, and egg drop soup, which they brought as an appetizer. We all loved this place, located right next to the Hilton in the financial district and Chinatown. Definitely worth a return trip. I couldn't get enough of those pea shoots!

Possibly The Best Chinese Food I've Ever Had

By Marshall |

This is a small restaurant in the heart of Chinatown. There were two attentive, helpful servers on duty, and I was seated immediately. They have a big menu--lots of variety. I ordered the spicy chicken with mushrooms and a side of rice. Taste is subjective, of course, but this may be the best Chinese food I've ever had. It really was that good, and I wished I could compliment the chef. It's reasonably priced, and I was happy I found this culinary gem.

Great food . Very friendly and helpful staff. I jave never had crab like this and it was amazing. Get the live crab. We did the salt and pepper one.

Great food.

Now ‘New Garden’ restaurant I think. Great food, attentive service and good value found by chance amongst the myriad of options in Chinatown.

I had to come back for more

By zzzptm |

It was right across the street from my hotel, making it totally convenient for me to dine at. And what a place! Excellent food, well prepared. The fish dish I had there was out of this world, and I look forward to returning here one day.

Great inexpensive, family friendly lunch option

By patsyannie |

Visiting family staying at the Hilton Financial Center. The valet directed us to this restaurant that is just outside the Hilton's entrance. We were four adults and two children under two. Family friendly and easy was important. This restaurant was a very good option. Lunch options were in the $9 range. Everyone loved their dishes that ranged from spicy chicken dish with fried rice, to broccoli chicken to a wor won ton soup. The lunch plates all came with egg drop soup. The wor won ton soup was huge. It easily served me and a two year old who loved the broth. All in all, a good choice for an inexpensive and satisfying lunch.

Not fancy, but EXCELLENT American breakfasts served!

By cfonde |

We stayed at Hilton Financial District in San Francisco last month. Our room rates did not include a breakfast at the hotel. Instead of splurging $20+ per for breakfast, we stumbled right next door to the hotel, and found "The Garden Restaurant". This is a smaller Chinese restaurant (maybe 18 tables). They had a sign on the window that stated: "Breakfast $4.95 and up", and they open at 7:00am. The restaurant is not fancy. It has about as much ambiance as your average diner. The breakfast menu was standard American fare, and the prices were quite reasonable ($5.00 - $7.00 avg.). What impressed us the most was, everything was fresh-cooked, to order. Even the sausage links were cooked to order, and not sitting in some warmer all morning. The older Chinese gentleman was always nearby to pour more coffee. The egg specials come with hash browns, choice of meat, and toast. Whether we ordered the pancakes, french toast, or egg specials, everything was delicious, HOT and fresh, just the way breakfast should be. The menu board on the wall reminded us, that this was a Chinese restaurant first, as they had all the usual Chinese specials in the $8 - $10.00 range for dinner. We never did have dinner here, but if they pay as much attention to their dinner cuisine, as they do their American breakfast's, I will look to dine here every time I am in San Francisco. I will admit, breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and while this was not cuisine of the Waldorf Astoria, it was prepared right, and at the right price. The Chinese gentleman was always appreciative of our business too.

Friendly staff, excellent food

By HaJu_11 |

This Chinese restaurant didn’t disappoint. Service was attentive and informative on the dishes available. Would definitely recommend.

Very attentive

By JLowry3402 |

Great service, good food and lots of it, and reasonably priced. What more could one ask. It was a good choice for my last night in town.

Very Good

By RPF49 |

Had ginger beef takeout, included spring roll and steamed rice. Very good, beef tender and tasty with just the right amount of ginger.

Overpriced for not-more-than-average food

By Julia T |

Wouldn't recommend if Chinese is not your first language: seriously, people!!!. Average food, happy hour is just a fake ad...Not worth it

Good basic Chinese food!

By Tangosmom2 |

I got in to the Hilton around 9 pm and my friend and I went to the Garden as it's next to the Hilton. We found the food to be very good. We had a shrimp dish and a pork dish. We got there around 9:20 on a Thursday night. The restaurant was fairly full and there's a sign on the door about "open 24" but apparently that doesn't mean 24 hours a day. Our server quickly told us they would stop serving food at 9:30 so we had to order quickly. Service so so but if you want basic food, it's not bad.

Great Chinese food!

By sassybowwow |

I am Chinese so I am picky about Chinese food. We ordered the prawns in Thai sauce, black pepper beef and aubergine in garlic sauce for dinner. It was all delicious but the prawns were really AMAZING!!! Sooooo good! The owner is very charming and the food is served quickly and efficiently. The restrooms are really clean. You can tell the owner takes great pride in having a quality establishment. We would definitely go back!

Great place to eat

By Ashley M |

Situated right next door to the Hilton Downtown we called in here for some quick takeaway food after travelling. We ordered the chicken combination, steam rice and some rolls. The service was quick and friendly and reasonably priced. The food was delicious and good serving size. We would return again if in the area.

Nice clean Chinese Restaurant

By Nick L |

A nice friendly Chinese restaurant with food to match. Couldn’t fault what we had and we both enjoyed our meals. Prices very reasonable and staff very friendly. Would recommend if you’re looking for a Chinese meal.

What a pleasant surprise!

By Sue4605 |

We dropped by for a quick lunch as it was near our hotel. We all tried something different and were all pleased. We ordered Vegetable Egg Rolls and Crab Meat Rangoon for appetizers. We shouldn't have ordered that much and don't think we were given all that was supposed to be in the order, but we were very full already. We had the Hot and Sour Soup...not to a few of our likings, but my husband and the other guy with us liked it. We had Sesame Chicken and Mongolian Beef. Everyone at our table left full and happy with our selection. The lunch prices were very reasonable...like $5.99 each entree! Hard to beat!

Nice Chinese restaurant

By ChicoRanMan |

Our small family enjoys this clean, efficient place to eat. Tastey, affordable chinese food on the edge of China Town.

Reasonable Restaurant in Chinatown

By Shikhar B |

I found this to be a reasonable restaurant in Chinatown for non-Chinese. The service was very good and the food was OK with large portions. The lunch menu was sufficient to fill us all up. The location, right next to the Hilton and across the street from the playground, was good. It is also removed from the bustle of Grant Street, which is one block over. I would eat here again.

Great, quick Chinese food next to the Hilton

By Amy S |

This little gem is right next to the Hilton. After a long work day, I hopped in here and had their amazing salt and pepper prawns. They were expertly prepared, with a bit of heat. The owner was super nice and the wait staff were efficient. Free tea provided.

A must go place!!!

By moonNewYorkCity |

We recently traveled to San Francisco and were looking for a nice restaurant to meet with friends in Chinatown. After checking a few restaurants, we decided to try this one. We were so happy that we made the right choice! The restaurant is located at a quiet block with the public parking right across the street, where the customers can have two hours complementary free parking. The atmosphere inside is nice. The food is delicious. The price is reasonable. The service is courteous. The owner is super nice who even allowed my friends to bring their dog in. All in all, it is highly recommended! If anyone wants to taste Chinese food in that area, this is a must go place!

WOW....one of the best restaurant in China Town SFO

By MikeZaki |

Mr. Danny and Mr. Justin are the best people to deal and We will recommend to each and every traveler in San Francisco to have dine once or twice. Best food and best people. Wonderful Experience.. Way to go.....

Great Experience

By onesies1 |

Staff at the Courtyard Marriott, Fisherman's Wharf suggested this to us. We try to NOT eat where all the tourist go. This was more of a family spot on the edge of Chinatown. They knew we were from out of town, had no idea what to order and they provided a wonderful meal and we took picture! We plan on a return visit when we get back to SF. We don't know if they offer delivery but we saw several come in and take out.

Great Service & Food at a reasonable price - What more could you ask for!

By BigPandaBoy1 |

This restaurant is located right next door to the Hilton Hotel. Got in late one night. This restaurant was open although it was nearing closing time and there were only a few diners left. We were greeted warmly and told to order whatever we liked, they would be there until we were finished. And yes, we did order peking duck (delicious) and we were not rushed at all! Spring rolls and dumplings were excellent as well. Waiter was attentive with tea and water. When we finally left, we were happy, our bellies were full, and it did not break the bank. Would definitely go back.

Decent and adjacent to SF Hilton

By Gentle_heart |

Cantonese style food, I believe. I had the spring rolls which were tasty but nothing special. Also had the lobster & noodles. Very tasty - but you have to take the shell off yourself. And they simply cut up the lobster with kitchen sheers (or maybe a sharp knife), not the more typical approach back east. Very basic, unadorned place. But where can you get lobster for $21? Although they claimed the special price was the reason I got shorted one claw. You decide. Either way, it was plenty of tasty hot food. A no-brainer for hotel guests.

Lunch time surprise

By wellTravelledPapa |

I ordered the House special chow fun which had Squid, grilled fish perfectly cooked, juicy plump 3 pieces of shrimp, shredded chicken and thinly sliced pork. Dish was only $12.95 and could easily serve 2. 2 styles to choose from, one with gravy and one dry braised which I chose. Establishment is artful and clean. This also was served with green onion slices and bean sprouts and was very digestible and NOT Greasy. I will come back again. Good selection of lunch specials for $9.95, a bargain in San Francisco.

Above average in quality, service, and value

By Edward L |

We stopped into this restaurant last Sunday for lunch. While they serve a western/Chinese breakfast, we were interested in a Chinese meal. We found the food to be above average for Cantonese style restaurants in taste and value. Good service and a very clean environment make this place above your average Chinese restaurant in SF. They offer basic, good quality Chinese food at very reasonable prices. The special Lobster noodles for $ 14.99 is a very good dish -- a whole Maine lobster served Cantonese style over a bed of fresh tasty wide noodles. We were a large group so we ordered their special 7 dish meal for $ 70. It features one selection from their high priced offerings (Peking Duck, steamed whole fish, etc.) and 4 selections from their mid range priced offerings (Peking spareribs, chicken with asparagus, beef with assorted mushrooms, fish filet with chinese veggies) and crab soup. All of the dishes were very fresh and tasty, not too much oil and not alot of salt. You could appreciate the freshness of everything. The staff was very friendly and efficient (above your average Chinese restaurant). We also liked the clean surroundings, which is a plus. Located next to the Hilton and across the street from the Portsmouth Square parking garage, the restaurant also provideds validated parking to boot! (minimum purchase required). I heard that The Garden Restaurant underwent a change in ownership/management about 8 months ago so review prior to this may not reflect the current restaurant. Bottom line, this is a very good Chinese restaurant. While the food might not be too exotic, its basic and very good value.

Nice restaurant for Chinese cusine

By thdaniel8 |

Such a good restaurant for Chinese cuisine. Try the roasted duck in BBQ and the spread of sea food is very good - prawns, oysters, scallions to choose from. You can order online as well.

The worst service ever!!!

By SgtBuffy |

I have eaten at Garden Restaurant numerous times over the years and it used to have great food and good service but this last time, the service was so bad, I will not be returning. The two of us came for dinner on Sunday night around 7:30 pm. The place was packed and there were a couple of other people waiting for a table. We stood there as the servers ignored us. We waited patiently for about 10 mins before being sat at a small table. Then we waited for quite awhile as the 4 servers walked back and forth but still not acknowledging us. Then a female server who looked grumpy came to our table and practically slammed our plates and chopsticks and tea cups down on our table. She did not say a word although I smiled and thanked her. We had no idea who our server was. We saw one take the order of another table who came in after us. A male server finally took our order. We ordered chicken fried rice, kung pao chicken, seafood won ton soup and lobster noodles. He rudely said we ordered too much. WTH!!! He's not the one paying! The food came and our small table was cramped with all our plates. No one came to check on us. My friend had to ask for more water but was basically ignored. Then when the bill came, our server told us that the bill already included a tip. What a total RIP-OFF!! The automatic 15% tip was ridiculous due to their lack of service. I'm usually a generous tipper but this place sucked. I will NOT be returning to The Garden!

Sincere

By Adrian-Chef-Owner |

This restaurant provides beautiful and sincere service and food. A great venue for large groups or a solo feed. I didn't get a chance to try the seafood but it was fresh ad my Chinese friends finished it off completely.

Next to the Hilton

By ec92 |

Stopped in after a long day for take-out but decided to stay. Food a service were good - more a Chinese Family style restaurant and I enjoyed the atmosphere. Make sure you ask questions to get exactly what you want since the language barrier caused me to order again. But they try really hard to make the customer happy. Would go back next time I'm in Chinatown

Fried what

By Sherlene C |

This was the worse fried rice I have ever had. The rice was over cooked and you could count the amount a bits of pork in it. Barely an veggies. Could make it through the it. I would have the Yong cho fried rice again, but I would try something different here.

Good basic chinese meal

By Brian C |

If you want a relaxed good value Chinese meal, this fits the bill. (+) Decent quality and service, very reasonable prices. Big portions. (-) Not a fancy place to go if you want to show off to anyone Service will not necessarily be in the same mould as the syrupy tip-stoking "friendliness" you might expect in a restaurant. ("Well Hi There Folks!!! My name's Joanie and I'm going to be your Server today!!!! :-D !!!!")

a delightful suprise next door to the Hilton

By Kent M |

I love all Chinese food. This is a family owned cafe style restaurant that is heavily used by the local asians here. I liked the people, the cleanliness, and mostly the authentic Cantonese dishes. The meals were such a bargain and sooooooooooo good. I ate there seven times,

Unexpected Gem

By Laurentcroissant |

My wife and I stopped at the non-descript corner for a cold drink and decided to order a small snack. We ordered Peking style ribs and were we surprised? This very delicious appetizer was enormous. Service was attentive and proactive, but calm. The exterior of this unpretentious restaurant does not beckon tourist, but is well-worth a visit.

Great place. Quick service, not overpriced.

By DowieCam |

Quick meal with my wife after a busy day. Food was served quickly, portions large, tasted good. Not overpriced. What more can you ask for?

Excellent Chinese food. Classic feeling

By vinotico1 |

Excellent Chinese food. Classic Chinese ambiance and well serviced . Try the sweet and sour fish , delicious

Good but poor service

By HarryHood306 |

A very large menu. Had to ask for water 3 times. The tea was good. Served us 2 beers instead of one. Crab Rangoon was pretty good. The broccoli in wine sauce was mainly broccoli stems and a few broccoli leaves. Very underwhelming. Mongolian beef was fantastic. They forgot my soup as well. Soup was only one okay. Staff was friendly though.

Pre show dinner

By Iain Q |

We decided to eat by the hotel we were staying at which was the Hilton Financial District as previous reviews said there wasn’t much around the SHN Orpheus theatre and tbh the area immediately by it is an area i would not walk at night as not good. We turned up early and i have to say the family thought this was one of the best Chinese meals we have had in a long time. We had the Salt and Pepper Prawns, Chow Mein, BBQ pork. The waiters were all very friendly and helpful and adjusted the menu to meet the kids tastes. Great service and very reasonable.

Great Garden Restaurant.

By June R |

Had the set lunch which included endless jasmine tea. The food was tasty and the portions were good sizes. The service was just right and the staff were friendly. Lunch for two came to $23.76. Absolutely no complaints.

Pleasant helpful staff, reasonable prices, good food

By DeWitt65101 |

Garden is a medium priced Chinese restaurant with a reasonable selection on an unhelpful menu (unless, of course, you can read Mandarin). I came at 3 pm, so I did not see the dinner menu, but the lunch menu featured an item (in my case, Sweet & Sour Chicken) with white rice and soup. The selection was fair, and there were a variety of rice and noodle dishes available in addition to the "lunch plate" that I had. I substituted the BBQ Pork Fried Rice for the white rice, and added a side of pot stickers (3), and a diet Coke to bring the total bill to $18.12. That's a pretty fair price for a place where the Financial District borders Chinatown in downtown San Francisco. First, the good news. The potstickers were some of the best I've had. The noodles were cooked to perfection and the filling was very tasty. The sauce had a vinegary bite to it that really brought out the flavor of the food. The soup was also very good, with little bites of beef in a clear broth with green onion and egg-drop noodles. I would have both of them again. The fried rice was very well done, with a smoky flavor and just the right mix of peas and egg. I really enjoyed it. I might try a different main entree next time. Traditional chinese sweet and sour comes from sautéing garlic in oil, and then adding a mixture of pineapple juice concentrate and brown sugar (for the sweet) and vinegar (for the sour). Traditional chinese sweet and sour sauce does not come out red in color. It comes out sort of a light brown. But Americans have decided that, like having your cough medicine flavored, its important to drop red food coloring into the sauce so it looks more like dessert and less like dinner. And that would be okay if it was actually a sweet and sour sauce. The sweet and sour ingredients should be in equal portions. In this sauce, it was mostly just sweet. More importantly, the chicken was deep fried and unevenly cut, and the smaller pieces came out hard and chewy. There was, however, plenty of pineapple, red and green pepper, and onion to round out the sauce. So, while it was sweeter than I would have liked, and had sort of a nuclear red color to it, it was still better than anything you'd get out of the frozen food section. The waitress was pleasant, shared with me her belief I would enjoy the BBQ Pork Fried Rice more than white rice and managed to do it without sounding like one of those "you want fries with that" upsellers at a burger joint. I suspect the food is better at dinner than at lunch, but it was still good nonetheless.

A Pop -in Lunch

By Quasarsoujourner01 |

It was Tuesday and time clock was running. I was planning to do my lessons at the Chinatown City College Campus, when I got a call. "Meet us at Garden Restaurant!" I thought it was "Penang Garden Restaurant on Washington, but a second message stated "Its Garden on Kearny Street!' So its good fortune for me as its next to Chinatown Hilton and City College campaus. When I exited the Muni #8 bus stop, I was at the front door! I met my friends for a working lunch. The place has been upgraded with quality furnitures, seats and lightings too. Also, it has a boba drink station too. The server promptly directed us to a table for five persons in the next room. The lunch menu was layout in a very simple manner. Most prices were $8.00 to $12.00 range. After our orders were taken not too long, our food came! We all had indvidual rice or fried noodle plates for lunch. And, further our business was taken care at the same time! Not a bad place for a quick lunch or dinner.

Lovely food with huge portions

By Royboy67 |

We visited with our two eldest so effectively 4 adults. Thankfully the waiter convinced us that rice, noodles and 3 dishes would be more than we needed and my God he was right. Bucket loads and we left a huge amount! The good was very tasty and sweet and four pork was our favourite.

Great food

By katkins1 |

The food was excellent, really good portion sizes. The staff were very friendly amd accommodating. It was a hit with the locals so we thought we'd give it a try, very glad we did. Recommend!

Renovating premises

Since the restaurant was sold several years ago, the new owners have remodeled and taken out booths. The quality of food follows the great ambience. The salt and pepper crab is excellent.

The dinner dish was ok. I've had better. Was surprised that my dish didn't come with rice. This restaurant was recommended by a local tour guide

Excellent Chinese Restaurant

By Malcolm M |

With a party of five it can be difficult to please everyone but we all agreed this was the best dinner of our ten day stay in SF. We'd just walked through Chinatown looking for somewhere to eat when we came across the Garden Restaurant. Admittedly the outside didn't look particularly inspiring but a couple of us went inside for a look & were fairly quickly sold. The place looked comfortable, the staff were welcoming & the decent sized restaurant was fairly full, enouragingly with what appeared to be local Chinese families. After scanning the pretty extensive menu, we decided we'd each order something different & share but on recommendation from our waiter, dropped one dish as he advised we'd probably find it too much food. And he was right - portions were generous & we only just about managed to finish everything as it was. The food was excellent (as was the wine) & there was a lot of plate manipulation as we each tried to decide which dish we liked the best (not easy!). Not only was this the favourite meal of our stay, it also turned out to be the cheapest (an added bonus as it was my turn to pay!). All in all I highly recommend this restaurant - the food & service were excellent & the prices very reasonable

Hidden Gem down the street from R & G

By WG |

The wait at R & G was too long for us. We noticed the The Garden restaurant and were quickly seated. Ordered the veggie chow mein, general tso's chicken, shaved lamb, eggplant in garlic sauce and potstickers, all of which were full of flavor and well presented. The food started arriving at our table within 10 minutes of placing the order. We had a lovely dinner and would eat here again.

Best Chinese food! Go here

By Keith V |

Me and my boyfriend went in on the off chance for lunch and it was amazing! Only cost $6.95 and was the best sweet and sour pork I've ever had (and we go for Chinese a lot at home!) staff were friendly and service was excellent! Go here :)

Cheap Prices.... Good Food.. Across the Street from the Hilton

By SEARS215 |

Good Service... The restaurant offered good service and good food. We had a party of 12 .... The prices were really cheap

Time for dinner 🍚

By Jack M |

We finally found a Chinese restaurant that we enjoyed. Waitress/host was a bit slow. Finally had a waiter come over and help us and we got started. We had shrimp fried rice hot and sour soup and beef with green pepper onions it was great. If you like wine they have plenty of wine here about 50/60 bottles. And the price was reasonable. So if you visit San Francisco near the financial district this is the most 😊 enjoy.

Excellent quality food!

I had dinner at the Garden Restaurant simply because it was literally next door to the hotel I was staying in and I didn’t feel like walking. The staff were friendly enough but I honestly wasn’t expecting too much. After inspecting the big menu, i settle on crispy skin chicken and fish stir fried with Chinese broccoli. Well, was I surprised! The Chinese broccoli was a huge serve and cooked as well as any such dish I have had anywhere. Big crunchy stems but no fibrous parts, big pieces of fresh fish, perfectly cooked. If I have had a better plate of vegetables in a Chinese restaurant anywhere in the world, I don’t remember it. The best plate of kai lan I have ever had. The crispy skin chicken was good. Really crispy skin but still tender juicy chicken. A very good dish but the standout was the Chinese broccoli. A real surprise for me!

The first night we stayed we really didn't know where we were going to eat so we headed out on foot, we stopped by two chinese restaurants and they were packed with people, so we headed back. I decided to see what they offered, it was small and intimate so we got our table of four and by the end we had food to bring back with us to the room, we were all happy and it was only one block away. Very reasonable. My daughter and I decided to go back another time just for lunch one of the days and we ran to get pick up.. It was very convenient!

A San Francisco Treasure

My husband and I went all the way from Gilroy to meet with my good friends from NYC in San Francisco. It was lucky that we went to dine and chat in Garden Restaurant. Our experience was GREAT. If there is a six star rating we would be glad to do it! The food, all the dishes we ordered were delicious. We had not had such wonderful dishes for a long time. Believe me, since all four of us are native Chinese. The bill for such good food was much less than we expected, plus they gave us two dishes for free, a well cooked nutritious soup for us, and a meat bone for our dog. Everybody smiles. We picked this place because it is upscale, clean, and quite so we could chat pleasantly. We didn't expect that our well behaved German Shepherd was welcomed there. The first thing we noticed was the floor. It was so clean that we knew our always clean shepherd could sit without a problem. The restaurant boss is a dog lover. He loved our shepherd, and he loves all the dogs since he has dogs his own. He treated the dogs like humans, and even has two rooms downstairs to make them happy. Our dog was very quite that night. She was contented. She got a big piece of delicious meat bone and a taste of all our delicious food. We don't go to SF that often, but we thought we found a treasure in SF. Anytime later we go to SF this is our restaurant! Did I forget to mention that this restaurant is also super conveniently located: It is just across the China Town's only big parking lot, Garden Parking, and you will get a two hours valid parking from this restaurant.

Fantastic food!!

We stumbeled on this place by accident while looking for somewhere to eat in chinatown, since the restaurant we wanted to go to was shut, and did not regret going in there for a minute! Though it was next to the hilton, the customers were mainly chinese, so it was not a tourist trap. The prices were very reasonable and the food was very good. We paid around 55 dollars for a two course meal for two people with beer. This included two delicious starters and an incredibly well cooked peking duck (whole duck) with buns. The staff was friendlyand helpfull and the atmosphere was nice. I´d most definitely go there again!

Sweet and Sour

By Hitcher84 |

I had a lunch special there today. Price was around $20 with tax. The atmosphere and service were good. Sweet and sour pork was average and I upgraded to the fried rice, which was a mistake. Not very good fried rice, very loose and plain. There are lots of choices here and I might try it again, but maybe not. Good tea.

Excellent dinner and friendly staff
