San Fran Stylish

By NonaKim |

Super cute, charming, stylish and hot neighborhood spot. I sat at the bar for dinner one night and it was perfect. Excellent service (bartender was spot on with her recommendation), the food was incredibly well done and the wine selection top notch. It's definitely worth repeat visits and there was great people watching from all angles.

Over-rated but with some merit

By Bonnie S |

Loved our waitress, she was cool. Recommended a great wine. Appetizers: rice balls and grilled octopus delicious as was the Caesar salad. Cavatelli with Ragu also great, now the disappointment...tuna. The waitress did not ask how I wanted it cooked. I do like it medium rare but figured this was such a fine establishment That I didn't need to ask for it cooked medium rare. Boy, was I wrong, never assume. The tuna was SO well done and dry. Plus, there were way to many spices, herbs and favors incorporated into the plate. The chef needed a little more restraint with this dish....there was cumin flavor somewhere on the plate and I personally don't like the flavor of cumin, and would never pair tuna with cumin. Am I wrong here? My husband had Steak, which was okay. He said he should just have had the pasta as his main course and not order a steak in an Italian restaurant. Dessert was a delicious chocolate treat. The restaurant got so busy that our waitress hardly came around once she took our order. It took a very long time to get our check. The place did get noisy, so if you are going to eat here, go early. Must say the Sommelier did come around and was nice, but they make money if she comes around. It would have been nice if the waitress came around a bit more too. The hostess was absolutely lovely. If we returned to SF, we would not go back.

Thoughtful and attentive

By yakherd |

A group of us came to celebrate a special occasion. A table had been set up for us in the main area. We asked, though, if we could be placed in the quieter room in the back. The maitre d' was very obliging and switched us. He thoughtfully helped one of us up the three stairs. With the bread comes olive oil with different kinds of olives in it. A lovely touch. The appetizers were delectable and distinctive, especially so was the calimari. The main courses were good, but more ordinary. The service was very good. Delighted to know about this restaurant.

Dinner

By pamshawilk |

Family member lives a few blocks away from this restaurant so we've been there most over several years. Very plain decor yet didn't matter. Dinners hot, wine and hot bread to start. I don't believe a full bar? Not sure. Food always good.

I'd go back and I did

By mrpiii |

Recommended by the staff at Hotel Drisco I went and thoroughly enjoyed enjoyed myself for dinner and then went for lunch the next day. The service was excellent and the food even better than the service. I could wish for a better selection of wines by the glass but they were excellent choices.

My go-to neighborhood place

By Laurie F |

Been there forever. Reminds me of so many places on NYC's upper East Side. Always busy. Reserve a table or seats at the the bar. Tables in the back room are a bit tight.

Wonderful service with a great meal

By jackiesnk12 |

We had a great "petite meal" before a lecture here and can't wait to come back again! Selected this based on the menu and its location close to our lecture hall. Staff were extremely helpful in pointing out those meals that could be prepared in the short time frame we had. Tastes were fantastic for the risotto dish I had, and service was terifficwonderful. Friendly and casual elegance with great food, drinks, service and prices.

A Little Gem

By BigPaw1977 |

This restaurant is a hidden treasure and a "must do" for couples and gathering of friends.. With it's subtle lighting, high ceilings and contemporary decor this gives the place a great atmosphere. The food is amazing as was the friendly and attentive waiter service, water and coffee refills with no hesitations or limitations. City prices but well worth a visit.

Overrated and average cuisine

By lovetotravel0221 |

We were referred to this establishment by the hotel manager. Although the location is excellent our service and meal were mediocre. The restaurant is not very inviting and the service was below average for the area. My seared salmon was quite bland. I was looking forward to dessert and unfortunately ordered the pistachio and peach pana cotta. The pana cotta was tasteless and ranks as the worst pana cotta I ever ordered. My husband and I were both disappointed with our dinners and the poor ambience of the restaurant.

Chic Laurel Heights Restaurant

By rocky b |

Chic restaurant in Laurel Heights Great house bread basket: walnut, olive, sourdough Full bar; excellent wines by the glass, but expensive Happy hour & prix fixe dinner menus Fantastic lamb salad; so-so steelhead corn dish Fantastic desserts; try the chocolate budino Good food service Negative: linty napkins

A little Italian gem with the freshest of fare

By dunmore1999 |

Recently visited San Francisco from Ireland to visit family and they had reserved a meal here for our mom's birthday and what a treat. The mixed anti-pasta was a meal in itself. I have never had better - even in Italy!!! Starter were succulent as were the mains and desserts. It's the freshest of fare it just melts in the mouth. Can't recommend it more. We'll be back next time we're in town.

Food is very good, but service is hit or miss

By David M |

We had a birthday dinner here and the food was generally good (although not as good as I recalled). The service was not on par with the food or ambiance though. Specifically, one of our diners ordered a salad, and a meat starter for her main course. The server brought her starter first, when everyone else was eating their salads. Then when we all received our main courses, she was given her salad.

Very solid neighborhood cafe.

By PDXStocks |

We went with a group of six. Service was good. No delays in service or how food and drinks were presented. Everything tasted great at this neighborhood bistro that attracts a lovely clientele. Menu was good and two of our group ordered burgers from a bar menu which were great. Always ask for the bar menu along with the dinner menu as the restaurant is happy serve food from either menu. Ceviche appetizer was excellent, as were the mussels. Everyone collectively enjoyed the food and atmosphere and four of us were new to the restaurant. We would be happy to visit again when in the area.

Dinner at Garibaldi's--

By Carlin35 |

Upscale interior decor. Tables nicely set for a neighborhood type restaurant. Comfortable lighting. Wine menu seemingly a bit limited and over priced. I noted a number of parties brought thier own wine. Mixed drinks very good. Asian waiter and I had communication problems. He refused to split a cesar salad onto two plates which irked me a bit, among other issues. Desert menu limited. Service was good and food was excellent. Noise level very high making conversation a bit strained. It was an interesting dining experience.

Intimate Pacific Heights Dining

By Linda T |

We enjoyed the modern atmosphere in this small neighborhood upscale restaurant that seemed to appeal to mostly locals, which is always a good sign. Although they have a full bar, the wine list is quite extensive and many craft bottled beers are offered. The service was quite good. There were a lot of people working there, and it showed in the quality of the service. The food was excellent. We ordered short ribs on polenta, mussels, chicken marsala with mashed potatoes with arugula salad -- and everything was perfect. We could not even think about dessert, although their dessert menu looked interesting. Yes, we will go back. Enjoy!

Small Place Big Taste

By Maggie O'C |

Get the Brussels sprouts. I promise you, you'll thank me and you will thank Garibaldi's for making them. As a matter of fact, you probably don't even need dinner after those and a salad. Good idea to order and share. Service was fabulous. Matt was our waiter and he made great recommendations, was fun to chat with and timed our meal perfectly. Highly recommend this little restaurant in the Presidio.

Rude and Worst service!

By Lawrence W |

On July 31, 2025, our 11th wedding anniversary took an unfortunate turn at Garibaldi's, a trendy neighborhood spot in San Francisco's Presidio Heights, located at 347 Presidio Avenue. Despite its reputation for good food and service, our experience fell short. We'd recommend checking reviews or alternatives before visiting. Despite having a 6 pm reservation, we were seated in a corner spot near the portable lift, which was not suitable for my partner's mobility needs. When I requested a table change, the hostess and waiter, Anthony, were uncooperative. Unfortunately, Anthony's behavior was unacceptable, as he stepped on my shoes and bumped into me without offering an apology. The hostess also declined our request to sit by the window, citing noise concerns, despite the overall loud atmosphere in the restaurant. Feeling disrespected and discriminated against, we chose to leave. The owner apologized and offered a gift card when we spoke with him, but we declined, as we were seeking improved service rather than compensation. In contrast, our experience at Zuni Cafe was exceptional. We were seated promptly by the window upstairs, and the service was outstanding. The wait staff was polite, apologetic, and attentive. The food was good, and the atmosphere was welcoming. Given the stark difference in service quality, we will likely return to Zuni Cafe and avoid Garibaldi’s in the future.

Hardly an elegant experience

By jaf122 |

Tables are close, crowded with noisy patrons, an interesting menu and a bumptious waiter (likely trained in a N.Y.C. deli) don't add up to a return visit. The minestrone soup was tepid, the Ceasar salad lacked flavor. The rib eye was properly cooked, the Chicken Milanese o.k. and the Tagliatelle good. With 1 bottle of wine and 1 dessert the bill for 4 totaled just over $300.00. With so many other options, we won't be back.

Bullseye!

By catraveler593 |

No reservation, but was kindly seated at the bar, and proceeded to have a first class San Francisco meal. We shared the Chop Salad, Calamari, and a pasta dish...doesn't sound exciting, but trust me, it was.

Food was good, but expensive

By Thomas K |

We were there with friends from San Francisco, and this was their recommendation. I agree with the noise level, we were lucky sat at the back. Small narrow restaurance, can be difficult to spot. Service was excellant both very helpful and observant without be intrusive. They did not seem to mind the length of time we spent there. And the food was pretty good, but I thought expensive, but we did not eat at many restaurants while in San Francisco, so have very little to compare pricing.

Fresh food at it's best

By TravelingWolf50 |

My wife and I ate here while site seeing in San Francisco. We ejoy eating Fresh unique food. Since the food is always fresh and local the chef buys what is in season. For starters my wife and I had the heirloom tomatoes with a vinaigrette dressing. The second course was figs wraped in prosciutto di Parma. Main course - I had the salmon over mixed local vegetables and my wife had the filet mignon with fingerling potatos. The waiter also did a fine job of recommending wines to go with our meals. The service was great, courses were spaced out and we did not feel rushed. All and all our dinners were excellent. A little on the expensive side but we weren't disappointed. We were glad we ate at this fine restaurant.

Great Lamb skewers

By cityhype |

Nice ambiance and good selection of wines and Italian food. I must say the lamb skewers were absolutely fantastic.

Fabulous local restaurant

By Attig45 |

Delicious food and attentive service in a local restaurant - noisy at first but when we asked for a quieter spot they quickly seated us in a corner that was perfect. The fois gras and grilled calamari were the BEST ever. The wine choices were excellent. A perfect choice if you are in the neighbourhood.

excellent food

By segmd |

This is a lovely restaurant in Pacific Heights. It is small and very well appointed with lovely ambiance. The service was excellent and the menu was not overly expensive (fairly standard prices for what you would expect for a nice dinner) and there was a nice spread between high end and lower priced selections. The food was cooked well and very tasty. It was definitely worth the trip and I would go again.

Local Gem

By philles1 |

Must do if you are in Presidio area. Mostly for locals and business people, but worth the effort if you are visiting San Francisco. Reservations a must. Service, food prep and presentation are well above average. Small plates or large plates give you a choice. They will do a tasting menu plus or minus a wine paring.

Had two great meals at Garibaldi's

By Lindall W |

We took our children to this restaurant twice. It is great food, good service and a really lovely atmosphere. My daughter had the lamb and after tasting a bite - I knew we needed to return. Good selection of wines as well.

OK, but not amazing

By Elmrosie |

Food had oddly-sweet things in savoury courses, but that might be my palette, Struggled to find anything I wanted to eat on the menu and wasn't bowled over when it arrived. The food wasn't horrible, but wasn't anything I would want to eat again.

slow service but great ambience

By Carolineess |

arrived without a reservation - so full would recommend. We were lucky to get in. A Wednesday night and buzzing. Seated at table quickly. But then a long wait. 20 minutes or so before a server came and asked for our drinks order. Somewhat irritated. Once drink order came everything sped up (it was almost as though until drinks ordered, not on radar). Food was very good. Pricey but you would expect that in this (part of the) city. We shared a pate for starters which was fine, hubby had the sea food pasta (excellent) and I had the lamb. Very good. Dessert of cheesecake was to die for. If in immediate area would probably come back but wouldn't go across town for the experience.

My favorite local spot to get dinner or meet friends

By Traci T |

Garibaldi's on Presidio is a great spot for lunch during the week or dinner weeknights or weekends. If you want a nice seated dinner make a reservation -it can be busy even on weeknights. If you are traveling alone or want dinner at the zinc bar - its my favorite spot. The place has a sophisticated vibe but down to earth servers and seriously good food. The chicken milanese and lamb tenderloins are out of this world. Good wine and beer selection too.

Great service and good food

By Victoire36 |

This was a good surprise. Service was the highest point and food is also delicious. Plus the whole environment is really cosy.

Cosy neighborhood place, but in an upscale way

By sunshine_susan |

This place has a lovely atmosphere--trendy, yet cosy, and cosmopolitan, and yet it also has a distinctly local feel to it, both in terms of friendliness and clientele. Had happy hour drinks for a celebration at the bar, followed by great combinations of appetizers and pastas. Overall a great find.

Love the cluby feel. The cuisine is excellent. And the bar is top notch.

By Sparky G M |

5 stars for all service food, and bar drinks and decor-- you can walk from the Drisco Hotel. I go here whenever I come to San Francisco and I feel like a regular patron.

If you are not a "local" don't expect good service

By Robin P |

Invited a couple of dear friends who live in The City to join us for dinner here. We had purchased a voucher on Groupon to use. We were 15 minutes early for our reservation (5:00 p.m.) and were told that the dinning room didn't open until 5:00 but we could have a seat at the bar and have a drink while waiting. Now there is very little that separates the dinning room from the bar and no one is yet seated in the dinning room. We asked if there was a "Happy Hour" and were informed it began at, you guessed it, 5:00 p.m. We then asked couldn't we be seated at our table and order a bottle of wine to enjoy until 5:00 p.m. and were told no. I should mention, that their "bar" didn't have room for the four of us to have a seat. Really. Dinner was at best okay, service was horrible. We have a second voucher for this restaurant that we will try to sell online.

Uniquely prepared food

By Mynonnie |

Really enjoyed our dinner here. I had the calamari for appetizer and my husband had the gnocchi. Both were outstanding. I then had the salmon for my entree. It was prepared in a light broth which was delicious. My husband had the tagliatelle. He loved it. Dessert was outstanding too. Service right on par. Would definitely go back. Loved the atmosphere too. Very cozy.

Excellent!

By Lisa W |

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. The service was impeccable and the food was amazing. Fun atmosphere in a great neighborhood. Highly recommend!

Sold as Italian, but really more Spanish.

By ilovescones |

The advertising we saw called Garibaldi's an Italian-American restaurant, and the name would also suggest that, but the menu has more things like papas bravas on it than Italian dishes, although there are some of those too.So I would call it a Spanish-Mediterranean restaurant. That said, the food was quite good, and our service was crisp and pleasant. Although we had our 6 yr old in tow, and she was fine, the ambiance is too sophisticated to be aimed at families - it's more a couples place.

Excellent dinner at this chic neighborhood restaurant!

By LESA C |

This place was absolutely delicious. What a wonderful place! We shared a few dishes: zucchini fritters, gnocchi, and their salad with peaches. All were terrific. And then my friend said she would eat dessert if they had profiteroles and what do you know? They had them! They were filled with homemade mint ice cream. Absolutely delicious and indulgent.

Not the Same

By Bill H |

In our return to San Francisco we returned to an old favorite. The food, drink and atmosphere were a comfort. The waitstaff seemed overworked and stressed. Disappointing as Garibaldi's was always a favorite.

Another great visit and delicious dinner!

By NYCNain |

This is one of our favorite SF restaurants. Trying to eat a little lighter, I chose the Caesar salad with grilled chicken. A week later I'm still thinking about how delicious this special preparation was and how much I enjoyed it. Over the years, this restaurant has been very consistent and we always appreciate that!

Anniversary Dinner

By Beth M |

My husband and I want to acknowledge the amazing staff at Garabaldi’s for an outstanding anniversary dinner. We were warmly greeted at the door, seated at a quiet table by the window, and enjoyed several amazing dishes. Truly a memorable night. Thank you!

savored every detail

By xpuctr |

This is a beautiful restaurant with impeccable service and delightfully inspired food. As an out-of-towner setting up a business dinner with colleagues, I relied on a recommendation to select the perfect spot for dinner with an important client. This was a winner! The food and drink choices were interesting and varied - no one was disappointed with the selection or execution. The staff was very helpful and accommodating (we came straight from a meeting and had more accessories than room) and managed the check beautifully. I would highly recommend this restaurant to other folks on business travel as well as solo diners, couples, and friends. If you're looking for a nice night out, this classy restaurant will fit the bill.

Neighborhood Restaurant

By Kristi M |

Delightful locals restaurant, excellent food, large portions, parking can be difficult (we took Lyft)

Nicely upscale

By MrsDavos |

My husband had the prie fixe menu consisting of salad, lamb ragout and dessert, while I had a salad and the braised beef short ribs. All were excellent and generously propotioned. By the time for dessert, they had run out of the one included in the fixed menu but substituted anything from the regular menu, so we shared the strawberry summer sundae, which was just right for sharing. Service was friendly and efficient. The white linen tablecloths were a nice touch.

Very nice

By Bruce L |

Recommended by our BNB as a local upscale restaurant. It lived up to the recommendation. The bouillabaisse was good but different as the sauce was thicker and more tomato based than the typical thinner saffron sauce that I usually expect. The sea bass was excellent both seasoned and cooked perfectly. Service was very good. Prices on the higher side but not unreasonable. Only negative that we were seated in the back room that really amplified the loud larger group also having dinner. I would recommend asking to be seated in the front room as it is quieter and has a much nicer ambiance.

Good but expensive

By Boo |

Had dinner here with my husband on a monday night because it was close to our hotel. We didn't have a reservation, and when they seated us it was between two groups that were pretty loud. The menu had a nice variety but not too many vegetarian options. I had a pasta with zucchini and onions that was very good but the portion was tiny for the $19 price. The appetizer and cocktails were also good, but on the pricy side. Service was good as well but nothing to rave about.

Great neighborhood restaurant

By skippy482013 |

Just the spot for a rainy night in San Francisco. Moroccan style lamb and great bar burger acted as much needed comfort food. Service was attentive and professional

Great food, lively atmosphere.

By Stuart S |

Overall the food was excellent and fresh. The noise level was something else and hard to get used to. Spent more time concentrating on my meal than on conversation.

Not your average Italian

By Ronnie K |

Not really Very Good - but good - lots of interesting items - meze really - the potato meze was great and had a middle eastern bent as did the broccoli offering = Egyptian seasoning and quite good. The Cavatelli with ricotta, mint, pea pod not much flavor and ore like a stir fry-

Still Incredible

By moss1310 |

I used to live in San Francisco and frequented Garibaldi’s frequently. Now 14 years later, I returned and was surprised at how outstanding it still is. Impeccable quality and consistency. Still one of the best neighborhood restaurants in the city.

Poor Service on a Slow Night

By Nicole A |

I went to Garibaldi's on Presidio with a friend on a Monday evening. I had made a reservation through Open Table & upon arriving we were promptly seated. Our waiter, Jeff was pretty short with both of us from the very beginning. Neither of us were drinking alcohol but we did inquire about the Aqua Fresca..He stated that it was not good & made a face which was a bit unexpected given that he should be recommending things, not putting down items on their menu. The entrees were delievered by a food runner (who was very pleasant) but at no point did our waiter ask how our meal was going, or if we would like a water refill, etc. We ordered dessert & I asked him to take a picture & he replied "sure, be right back" in a rushed tone, then sent the food runner over who apologized stating "he is busy, my apologies for that." On a Monday night with in a small restaurant the waiter is too busy to interact with his guests? Even be polite..? After one bite into dessert he dropped off the check, and never said thank you after paying until I finally rolled my eyes when he rushed by to pick up our check. Both my guest and I have been working in hospitality for 10+ years and were appalled at what a poor attitude he had. The food was good but to us, its all about the overall experience & for a $100+ dollar tab for water, two entrees & two desserts it was not worth it. Hope the management realizes that service goes a LONG way, as at least on my end I will not be coming back.

Excellence

By Pat M |

For a special celebratory birthday, we chose Garibaldi’s and were quite pleased. The food was top quality, with fresh ingredients & delicious unique flavors. It was pricey but what you’d expect for top quality food. The service was perfect – attentive & responsive without hovering. S-Singrun was on our receipt, so assuming that was our waiter’s name, he went above & beyond the norm in making sure we were taken care of. The ambience was nice although tables are quite close together, not allowing quiet conversation. I highly recommend eating here and would definitely return.

Cozy and tasty

By Terry V |

Welcome to what a friend calls a “Presidio Heights Private Club.” Very comfortable and cozy with white linen tablecloths. We started with an excellent chicken liver pâté with toast points and cornichons, very smooth and silky. The bar did not have a glass of sauterne to accompany the pâté, which I thought odd. An interesting green salad with apples, walnuts, and goat cheese which was severely underdressed, almost dry. Main course, my wife picked the chicken Milanese, an inspired choice, which we split. More than ample portions, tasty! We had a nice bottle of Poderi San Lazaro Pecorino from the Marche region of Italy, nice complement to the meal and affordable.

Amazing Food

By doctravel30 |

This is a San Francisco gem. The food and service were perfect.

Dinner

By dougrh |

Lovely restaurant in a quiet neighborhood . Excellent service. Food not really special. I had the lamb ($37) it was just ok, not succulent or flavorful . Portions quite small , menu selection not extensive . Caesar salad $14.50!! I felt the prices were not suitable for the food quality.

Disappointing dining experience

By Colin280862 |

This is third visit to Garibaldi's (2015, 2016) and our prior visits were excellent and we were looking forward to another great evening We arrived on this occasion and reception was brusque and rushed We were sat in a corner location which was nice Service was very average - slightly improved toward end but still below par Food was disappointing vs prior visits For an early in the week dining experience this was not to our expectation

Great decor

By Thomas V |

They say that 50% of a meal is atmosphere. The changes they have made really improved this dining experience. The "back room" is the place to sit. Cozy, private with great romantic lighting. The decor is now commensurate with the great food. Super!

Final evening family meal in SF

By Colin2808 |

On the recommendation of Bob Mackenzie at the Hotel Drisco we ate at Garibaldis on our final evening in San Francisco It was a fantastic meal with excellent service The atmosphere is really homely and welcoming - it would be a wonderful restaurant for an intimate meal for 2 Entire family loved it and totally recommend!!

Humiliating to the max . . .

By GeoSF |

I have a 75% genetic hearing loss. I have dealt with this very challenging handicap for almost all of my life, and sadly my condition has gotten much worse over the past year (despite the valiant attempts of the very greatest experts in the field at UCSF Medical Center, all well documented.) I ate at this restaurant tonight. Unfortunately, due to my handicap, my voice sometimes gets louder in noisy environments. This restaurant is very noisy. It was filled with other Pacific and Presidio Heights diners, all talking happily and enthusiastically . . . and not quietly. Which would normally not be an issue. And is not normally ever an issue at any other restaurant. However, halfway through the meal tonight, the manager, Andrew, came to our table and officiously told me I was speaking too loudly, and needed to keep my voice down. It was completely humiliating for me, in front of my dining companion. When I approached this manager privately, and explained to him my handicap and my situation, he was 100% unsympathetic. He tersely told me I could leave the restaurant if I was not able to keep my voice down. "You don't have to eat here," was his actual quote. He was rude and cruel when I explained my disability. He made absolutely no attempt whatsoever to understand, or have any compassion whatsoever, for my handicap. I will never eat in this restaurant, ever again. And tomorrow, I will file a complaint with the ADA, as this is legally my right under the American's With Disabilities Act. Nobody deserves to be humiliated over their genuine handicap. And tonight was a completely and totally disheartening and humiliating experience for me, in a situation where I do not have the ability to gauge the volume of my voice in a noisy environment. And this is a VERY noisy restaurant, hardly the public library. I would add that when we arrived at this restaurant, we specifically asked this very same manager, Andrew, for a quiet table in the back, and instead he put us right in the middle of the main dining room, right next to the bar, in the noisiest possible area. So, do not go to this restaurant unless all of your facilities are in perfect working order, otherwise you will be embarrassed and humiliated. A hearing handicap is no different from any other legitimate handicap, and the way I was treated tonight was inexcusable, and completely discriminatory. But apparently, any handicap which might minimally inconvenience other diners is not tolerated at Garibaldi's. Garibaldi's policy is that unless you are perfect, stay home.

Bad mistake!

By Philip H |

We were recommended Garibaldi’s by our hotel (Hotel Drisco) for our New Years Eve dinner. Bad mistake! It started OK with drinks and the entrée, but after that it was downhill. The main course was an overcooked piece of meat (I asked for medium rare, but it was well done), and my daughters dish was two chunks of duck breast with much too much cranberry sauce placed on top. I have eaten duck many times before, but never ever had it presented this way (the duck should be served in thin slices, not in two big chunks). The presentation of both dishes was appalling, without any colors whatsoever. The deserts were almost not eatable. The ice cream strangely put on top of the chocolate fondant had melted a long time ago. It looked like a bowl with something brown and mushy inside. To avoid this one would normally put the ice-cream on the side together with something colorful like a couple of strawberries, etc. When I pointed this out to the waitress, she answered just “That’s the way it should be!” The lemon pudding cake was overdue several minutes before it was served. Everything had crumbled, in addition to being far too sweet. In short, avoid Garibaldi’s if you want to have a nice meal.

Very good dining experience

By Bankerjan |

Garibaldi's was recommended by our B&B host. We found it to be a neighborhood type of restaurant. Excellent food, good service. Would recommend to anyone staying in the Presidio area.

Excellent food

By Donnads |

The food is outstanding. However, the noise level is - LOUD - especially on the weekends. If you go early on a weekday, you will likely have a quieter time. Near the JCC and in a nice area of SF without having to step over people on the street.

Always a good choice

By dlr51 |

We visit the city frequently. Have dined at Garibaldi's and ordered take out. Food prep and presentation is always very good. The atmosphere is lively and a bit noisy. Wine elections are good but expensive.

Reservation not honored, ugh

By shanin s |

I made a reservation with the owner for a specific table, which wasn't honored... ugh... when I tried to discuss what happened with her by phone afterward, she didn't return my call... double ugh...

Delicious neighborhood restaurant

This was a short walk from our hotel and recommended by the bellman. He did not steer us wrong. The food was delicious and the service was lovely.

Always consistent ..always delicious

By CurtandLarry |

Have been to Garibaldi's, on Presidio Ave, many times.. Every visit has been enjoyable.. The Chefs continue to provude tasty dishes.. The wine list is a bit pricey, but the service and atmosphere are top notch.. Be sure to make a reservation..You will not be dissapointed.

Love the D'Arbo Natural Fresca

By pipehorse |

This restaurant gets crowded fast. I walked by at six and it was twenty percent filled. Came back at 7, and it was packed. The service was excellent. The food, I had the chicken very nice. The D'Arbo Natural Fresca, is one of the most refreshing beverages I had in sometime, you have to try it.

Delicious food, great service and they let us sit for a long time!

By breezeedeck |

On a Saturday night recently, I had dinner here with 3 girlfriends. The meal was delicious and the wines were great. Service was considerate and informative but never hovering. We hung out until long after closing with no pressure from anyone. It was a short walk from our hotel, the Laurel Inn. If I lived in the area, I'm sure it would be my local favorite.

Options for Everyone

By GKB |

I didn't know this restaurant was known for its steak, so I ordered the pasta instead. It was delicious! The folds of pasta were filling without being overstuffed and the sauce was just right. I was there with a large group and we were able to enjoy our meal, share small plates, never felt rushed and never felt we were waiting for food or drinks to arrive.

Elegant dining with great food

By Geri H |

An upscale restaurant with superb food. Great wait staff. Fresh fish is superb and lamb tenderloin my all time favorite meal.

Wonderful!

By Jordan H. |

Very cute and modern location with amazing food! The staff was wonderful, they were very attentive the entire time and made sure to be personable. Just fostered a wonderful environment where I definitely want to go back to time and time again. You must check this place out!

Always a treat

By ChickieWickie |

My husband I always have a meal here when we stay in SF at the Laurel Inn. The cocktails are amazing (especially the Perfect Perfect). The food is delicious and beautiflly plated. This most recent visit we shared the Risotto balls, the butter lettuce salad, and the halibut. It was all so lovely. They knew we were sharing, and created 2 lovely presentations of the entree. I thought was really top notch. I can't wait for our next visit to SF to go here again. My only mini gripe was our server. She seemed over booked. I would have loved a second cocktail, but she never asked us.

Try it on a diet

As a fourth generation Californian (and third generation native San Franciscan), there is nothing I hate more than what we used to call California Cuisine. Tiny food, extremely pretentious with enormous prices. OK, Garibaldis is not that. The flavor is excellent and the service is friendly. But the portions make me not want to return. I am a big guy, and I go to restaurants to EAT things, not to admire the decor. The piece of halibut I ordered was the size of a deck of cards; the salad was just as microscopic. What that means is that I dive into the dessert (which is maybe just what they want). Life is too short to eat micro food. It will not be my first choice to go back.

Tasty

Nice find. good food in a local spot in pacific heights. Not all that many choices and no specials, but excellent ingredients very well prepared. Service indifferent and bath room dirty. Too bad.

Good food hip vibe

By Ruth N |

The chopped salad and the dressings and the chicken Milanese were excellent! The fish serving was very small. However if you want conversation it very difficult as the space is very noisy.

Pricey perfection. But those ain't profiteroles!

By scarisbrick |

Superb food - first class service - decent cellar: $1K for nine. Lamb worth it. But profiteroles were nice but, well, not profiteroles!

Very good but expensive drinks/coffee

By Whistledown |

We had lunch here (two of us) and had a table by the window. It was quiet and very pleasant. The lunch menu is limited but reasonable choices for lunch. Prices were reasonable for the food but very pricy for wine ($10 ++ for a glass; $6.50 for Stone IPA; and, $7.50 for a double espresso that had to be the most expensive espresso I have had). I had the burger that was excellent with a huge helping of excellent fries. Spouse had the soup and half sandwich (chicken) – both excellent. Service was excellent. Though a bit out of the way, it is well worth the trip. Loved it although the prices for drinks/coffee are over the top.

It feels like Manhattan, but it is definitely in San Francisco

By 328Myrtis |

A neighborhood type of place, but the food is exquisite. We go there for big occasions, AND also to meet someone after work. A great bar too.

Not a good experience

By WorcesterDarby |

Was welcomed and seated by the staff and the restaurant was busy even at 6.15. The restaurant had a varied menu, although not large. Portion sizes are large though! Waiter service was good and attentive but not over bearing. However the pork chop when it arrived was raw and had to be returned to be cooked! There was also a small cockroach climbing the wall behind my wife which was got rid of without fuss or delay. The hostess/manager apologised profusely when we asked for our bill, and removed the drinks from it as compensation. The restaurant was VERY no used. Disappointing.

Less than spectacular

By tjo |

I ate here with my wife and cousins. I had chicken Milanese, which was competent, but not spectacular. My wife had a different chicken dish, which was just OK. Beef tips were apparently good, but spare (two tips on the plate). The atmosphere was, however, very nice, and the wait staff was very attentive. Overall, I did not believe this food to be exceptional (or worth the price). There are many, many fine restaurants in this town. Perhaps this was an off night....

Great restaurant.

By AW51 |

Spiffy. A buzz, but you can hear. Food is excellent. Service first rate. Salmon and filet mignon both got rave reviews. Highly recommend.

A MUST for speacial occasions!

By Kathrine G |

Garibladi's made us feel so welcomed! The food was sensational. The service was outstanding. The atmosphere was intimate and romantic. The other customers all seemed to be having an equally amazing dinner. You'll enjoy your meal for sure!

Good Food & Atmosphere

By Christopher S |

The grilled octopus was a special and my wife and I really enjoyed it. Grilled perfectly. I don't eat meat and would have liked for there to be more pescatarian options for the main course. I ended up getting the sweet corn risotto. It was a good dish but did lack a little flavor overall. The service was good. The table we had was a little awkward because the lamp was very large and quite low, so my head was very close to it. There were many other tables in the restaurant and a nice back room that looked very comfy, so we may have just gotten unlucky with the seating.

Great Sandwiches and soups

By GrandTour488658 |

Four of us—two couples—went for lunch. All were well satisfied. Service was friendly and efficient; the food was very good. Actually my sandwich was outstanding. It was so large, I intended not to eat al of it. The bread, chicken breast Milanese, and aioli were perfect; so I ate the whole thing. Biggest downside is noise. Lunch off peak is fine; lunch on peak and dinner can be challenging.

Outstanding service, cuisine, neighborhood setting

By EllenF5555 |

A frequent visitor to SF told us about this restaurant, it was excellent. Food delicious, creative cocktails, loved the neighborhood friendly vibe. Definitely recommend.

What a pleasant surprise...for the second time!

By NYCNain |

We've eaten here twice on visits to San Francisco. And both times were excellent. The food is thoughtfully prepared and imaginative. Both of our meals there have been early in the evening and we found the service personnel attentive and available. Can't wait to go back on our next trip!

Nice neighborhood spot

By jfd |

Ate here as a solo diner. Had delicious squash soup and the lamb. Somewhat pricey but generous portions. Very nice decor and good service.

Ok good and bad points

By JohnSunderlandUk |

Generally a reservation is needed as it gets very busy. There is no dress code, it seems anything goes. A word of warning the place is loud so if like me you like a chilled nice restaurant good food and good conversation this is not the place. If you like sitting within inches of the next tables who are shouting at each other in order to be heard then this is the place for you. For me personally I like quiet conversation. The food was ok, our salad was far too acidic with what seemed like only vinegar on it and no oil. The main meal was very good though. Would I recommend or go again, no I wouldn't purely as it is too loud and your sitting on top of each other so much it is actually hard to get out of your seat and sqeeeeeze though the small gaps between tables. If you are not skinny beware!

consistent and amazing cuisine/reasonable prices!

By Barbara U |

I've been a fan of this restaurant for decades. fabulous chicken liver pate with red wine gelee - we asked for additional bread crisps, sous vide short ribs cooked to perfection, roast chicken and chicken Milanese were both moist and tasty (I don't like white meat but even THAT was awesome!). Ribeye was fork-tender and flavorful. Profiteroles was unusual b/c it had matcha ice cream - great combo with the chocolate! A good deal - 4 for $10 Wait staff were welcoming, personable, and attentive.

Find this gem in SF...seems the locals have....

By Mary O |

We found this gem off Sacramento Street and decided to try it. Beautifully appointed. WOW, from our welcome by Jeff at the door to his fabulous suggestions for dinner we had a wonderful experience. The small plates, meant to be shared, are exceptional- the fried brussles sprouts topped with toasted slivered almonds were delicious. Lamb tenderloins a HIT and the Chicken Milanese with potatoes melts in your mouth. A glass of Sangiovese and OO LA LA! Service exceptional...Save room for dessert..get the Chocolate Bundino...to share.....

Good food, good service, cozy place

By KLF52 |

It is a good experience, the restaurant is nice, the food is good and surprising, the service is friendly and effective. What need you more?

Not a mediterranean restaurant- average food and service

By George F |

We went here for lunch an hour before they closed on a Sunday. There were about 4 occupied tables and several servers/busers in attendance. We were seated and it took a while to get waited on. My wife ordered a chicken sandwich and I the lamburger. No fresh coffee the waiter said it was 90 mins old and didn't offer to make a fresh pot or propose an Americano. My wife's sandwich was very good. The lamburger was a disappointment - the tzatziki sauce was not close to a tzatzki at all. just mayo and some cucumber strips. The cheese they put on it was very smelly and not tasty. they could have put feta on it. I realize now that when I ordered I should have told them hold the cheese. No one came around to fill our water glasses or check on us- had to flag down the bus boy to bring more water. I think since the restaurant was not full the waiter could have come by at least once to check on us. Not many other Mediterranean foods on the menu- don't know why google categorized it as Mediterranean .

Hidden Gem

By Emd91 |

Been here three times since first finding this place! The pâté is to die for! The staff is wonderful and the ambiance is more than welcoming.

Good neighborhood italian/Med restaurant

By dragonrees |

Based on the reviews that we had read, our experience at Garibaldi’s was a bit disappointing. First of all, however, our server, Annel, was great. Very sociable and friendly, and very efficient. She helped us with her recommendations, including the soup of the day (mushroom) that was delicious. The restaurant ambiance is also quite nice, although tables are pretty close together. However the food didn’t live up to its billing. A salad that my wife ordered came without some of its listed ingredients. My lamb medallions were not as tender as they should be. As to desserts, the Chocolate Budino was really good, but the Broken Banana Crème Pie was meh, no sparkle or pizzazz. There is a full bar and the Boulevardier cocktail was excellent and a glass of Faust Cabernet Sauvignon was excellent, although a bit pricy. Street parking is difficult.

Abby's graduation

By joebrkly |

This was excellent! Everyone in the party had a great time and outstanding food and drinks. And we could actually hear each other too. The chicken malaise is a must - but so is everything else too. Wonderful!!!

Delicious...

By 2TravellingLondoners |

We were a party of 7 so tried pretty much everything on the menu. Lovely neighbourhood restaurant with a lot of charm. It would be perfect for couples and families too. I am looking forward to returning on my next trip to SF... A Travelling Londoner...

Excellent as always.

By J G |

Terrific food and service for a fairly large group of us during the Pre-Xmas season. Staff and chef looked after some limiting dietary requirements. Good value. Can be noisy

Happy hour treat

By Marilyn M |

This restaurant, only two blocks from the Monte Cristo, was recommended for its half price happy hour from 5-6. We arrived early, got a tiny table in the bar, and ordered tuna balls and pan fried Brussels sprouts. Now I know how to get my husband to eat them! We only ordered two items, no room for more at table. When we were finished, the waitress brought us a basket of fries - we had mentioned we might have ordered some, but no room on the table - free! However, we were so full we couldn't eat even one. We would have gone back to try more items on the menu, but we were busy sight seeing elsewhere. Even with our drinks, our bill was less than $15.00.

Very ordinary and overpriced wine

By colin b |

Visited tonight with my wife. My wife had 2 vegetarian dishes which she enjoyed. I had a nice starter of risotto croquettes. My main was muscles which were far too small to be eaten and were massively overpowered by an extremely hot chilli broth which would have done a hot Thai curry more than justice. The wine list is undoubtedly just mad with, at the lower end of the price range an extremely poor (local) Chardonnay costing $50 a bottle. I think this place relies on locals with expense accounts or more money than sense.

Popular with lunch crowd

By MuseumMom57 |

I met a couple who live close by here for lunch. Garabaldi's is their go-to spot and I understand why. The food was very good and the service was attentive. It was a busy spot during lunch. The interior is very attractive in a dark, clubby way. Parking can be challenging.

Relaxed lunch

By handif |

We enjoyed a super lunch and bottle of rose on our final day is SF. Just round the corner from our hotel we chose partly because of location. Food simply good, service was the best kind of brisk friendly sort you'd hope to find in the USA. Coffee and cognac rounded off a good meal in nice surroundings.

Great neighborhood place

By TravelgalCathy415 |

This is one of my go-to places to meet friends for drinks or dinner we need to be near Pac Heeights/Laurel Village/Presidio Heights. Great service every time, good happy hour but it gets crowded fast and there's not much seating, food and wine selection are consistently good. This place has been here for years (and for good reason!), and is a favorite of locals as well.

Great winter lunch

By Tim M |

Stop by for a touch of class in a very nice, clean and present .. Place to have lunch. Service is swift.

This is a great neighborhood restaurant, excellent food, cocktails, what more could you ask for. Highly recommend this place!!!!

Great Thanksgiving Dinner!

By Wendor818 |

We were here for Thanksgiving dinner, and we understand it's a favorite local hang. They had a great choices on their price-fixed menu. For the choice of appetizer course they offered New England style clam chowder, several tasty sounding salad options and a salt-roasted pear with prosciutto. The main course had a choice of classic turkey with the trimmings, salmon, rib-eye steak, or mushroom risotto as the veg. option. They served mash potatoes and sausage stuffing family style. The dessert course included choice pumpkin pie, apple crumble, etc.. You get the picture. Good stuff. The only reason I'm giving this a "very good" is because the noise level was loud enough to be uncomfortable (not fun to vibrate during dinner). Also, my husband asked for tabasco sauce for his chowder which didn't arrive until way after he had finished. We would try this again on a quieter night with their regular menu before crossing off the list. We don't usually go out to dinner on Thanksgiving, so perhaps I'm being harsh, because they were slammed.

We will definitely be back!

By TrinketTobin |

Wow!! What a great find. Small but very tastefully done. Great martini - food was phenomenal. Valet parking so no hassle there. One of the best beef dishes I've ever had. The polenta was out of this world. We will definitely be putting this restaurant in our rotation!!

Great food in a Neighborhood atmosphere

By robert k |

All the dishes were fresh. The selection was large and interesting. The service was excellent. The wine was good. The only downside is that the restaurant is very small and everyone is smushed together. Also, there was no A/C so it was quite warm in the room.

Fresh, creative, delicious cuisine

By Gena424 |

My husband and I had a fantastic dinner at Garibaldi's. The grilled calamari was exquisite as was the marinated lamb tenderloins served over a bed of quinoa and almonds and green beans. Jeffrey was our very efficient server with just the right amount of attention. I wish we lived in the City so we could go more often!

Amazing little spot

By Ari S |

I went to SF to visit an old friend who lives right across the street from the restaurant - I told her that I wanted to take her somewhere nice for dinner and she told me that there was no place she'd rather go in that wonderful city than Garibaldi's. So, we walked across the street and voila! Simply wonderful food. We sat at the bar and had fabulous service from the staff. The restaurant was full on a Saturday evening so make reservations if you can. I ordered a salad and the beef short rib special - tender, flavorful and perfect size - it could not have made me happier. Fabulous atmosphere, good neighborhood character but upscale enough for a lovely date. Can't wait to go back.

Very nice dinner!

By Sandra M |

Had dinner here on a Friday night with our sons. It was very good, the chicken pate was amazing. We all enjoyed our food very much. It was very busy, good thing we had a reservation.

Food good but nothing memorable

By Bolly22 |

Hard to explain why this was disappointing. The food was plentiful and imaginative but the service was not the best,as with an earlier reviewer our waiter was not very interested. The tables were very close together and it was so noisy that it was impossible to hold a conversation but heard all the neighbouring ones.

A Special Restaurant

By CaroBru |

This is where the locals go in an upscale area. Good ambience. Nice menu. Carlos was an excellent server who even provided a recipe we asked about. Reservations are a must. Good place to celebrate a birthday, or just a nice night out.

Delicious Food, Tightly Packed

By Cary F |

Garibaldi serves delicious food. Mostly Italian, though some other Mediterranean influences. The lamb is always delicious, and if I drive by in the evening, I always roll down the windows to smell the wonderful aromas coming out of the restaurant. The tables are a little closely packed, my only complaint.

A very memorable meal

By BillLeighty |

Perhaps the best meal we’ve had since the five star L’Angle restaurant in Barcelona. From start to finish we were treated like special guest. I had the House speciality of the marinated lamb loins and my partner had the mushroom risotto. The portions were perfect and we just had to have their famous dessert, the Chocolate Budino. Wow! What an evening.

Delicious Dinner

By EileenHurley |

Went their with family and we had a delicious dinner on Friday night. Chicken Milanese, Roast chicken and Halibut were the entres. We had the grilled nectarines with prosciutto. Everything was perfect.

Located in quiet neighborhood, very cozy room, understated elegance. Varied selection,?delicious menu with beautiful presentation. Highly recommended.

A Delightful Surprise

By Karen G |

It was a Sunday evening after a long, happy day of exploring the city on foot. We were too tired to venture out from our delightful Hotel Drisco in Pacific Heights. My daughter in NYC had called and took it upon herself to do some research for a place nearby and voila, she suggested Garibaldi's. (Our hotel staff confirmed the suggestion.) We savored an early dinner feeling lucky to have gotten any reservation at this popular, neighborhood eatery. Pretty, comfortable, fairly priced especially for the location with a diverse menu and wine list, we were delighted, well fed, soothed by the experience. I would call this an upscale casual place ranking it between $$ and $$$. I had "dressed" a bit and was glad to have done so.

Meh...

By FunandSunNYC |

Ate here with my family to celebrate my parents 50th Anniversary and unfortunately it was just okay. The food was good but the service was unattentive. Wanted to have a special dinner for the occasion but Garibaldi's did not live up to our expectations

Great finale to our trip

By Susan S |

We had a great a waiter named Carlos. We took all his recommendations. The calamari is not to be missed. The lamb was perfection and the chicken was good but too large a portion. It is a very popular restaurant in the Pacific Heights area that seems to have a regular clientele. We would definitely go back. It is reasonably priced and the portions are very generous. We would not have both the Anti pasti course and the starter course ...one of those is enough.

Great experience.

By Bob L |

We were able to get a group of 6 in on short notice. Service was great. Do go for the appetizers. Ceviche and goat cheese were particularly good options. Dinner was chicken melanese. Quite good. Short ribs reported great as well. Worth a visit.

Dinner at Garibaldi's

By Richard C |

We've eaten her twice and each time was great. Fun place; great menu; great food; great drinks; great service. Friendly place.

Good Food

By PersonalOpinion |

It was walking distance from the hotel, the ambience was good and it had a nice bar. The food also was good.

A great recommendation

By NinaW |

What a great find. Nothing to fault. All good. Good atmosphere, friendly service and great food. We started with the sprouts and potatoes. Sounds a little odd but both were delicious and generous portion sizes. Both of our main courses lived up to our expectations (beef short ribs and the lamb special). All accompanied by a decent bottle of Merlot from Sonoma. Okay so they did forget to bring our coffees but this was not an issue particularly when they then gave them to us complimentary! Wish we could return but our travels have taken us elsewhere. Highly recommended.

A nice local upscale place to eat

By jonathross |

was walking the streets of SF and stumbled upon Garibaldi's. Heard they had good hamburgers (which they did). Food was delicious, they had a nice variety items on the menu, prices were high than I had expected; ( everything to add onto a hamburger there was a charge) service was fine, nice wine selection with the average price per bottle in the 60 to 70 range.

good food, good service

By MAG1953 |

Garibaldi's squeezed us in at the last moment and we had an enjoyable dinner and an attentive waiter. This is a great place for a meal in the Pacific Heights neighborhood.

wonderful, creative food, very worth while

By smm2518 |

I loved the food there. It was some of the best food I have had. The service was wonderful. We tried almost everything on the menu. My favorite was the tuna. Dessert was great as well. Hard to really describe how good the food is, you must go to it! Very creative ideas and combinations I never would have thought.

Great Happy Hour

By bently1614 |

Love the bar and vibe! Food excellent and wine choices really good. Went with friend who is a regular and knew all about the menu and lots of fun. Very busy and have to get there early if you want a place at the bar or in the restaurant. Looked like they do a busy take out business too! All around a wonderful neighborhood gathering spot. Highly recommend for a casual fun early evening!

Went back again

By constablegal |

Our concierge at the Hotel Drisco recommended this restaurant the first weekend we were in San Francisco, and we went back again the next weekend when we again were in town. The atmosphere is cool and upbeat - a very New York feel. The service is friendly and the food interesting and tasty.

Ok but not great

By Julie F |

We had reservation and were seated quickly. Service was ok waiter tried taking away my wine glass and plate before I was finished ... weird. Prices are expected in San Francisco. The place is small and tight. Variety of food was good. My husband had salad with salmon and Salamon was not cooked which is awful. Nice vibe but not sure if we will return. Parking very tough so we Ubered.

Pacific/Presidio Heights Neighborhood Place

Love the classics -- chicken milanese, garibaldi's salad, warm olives, and a dry martini. Not necessarily cutting edge, but a very well liked PH neighborhood establishment.

Dinner for Four in Pacific Heights

By Pamela S |

Our family of four ate dinner at this restaurant on February 15, 2015. We did not have a reservation and were lucky to get a table. When I eat here again, I will make a reservation. We shared a Malbec wine from Argentina which was good. The four of us shared a Garibaldi salad which was excellent and sufficient for four of us to share. For entrees, I ordered the crab salad which was delicious. One person ordered the mushroom risotto and it was very good. The third person in our party ordered the salmon and left not a bite on her plate. My husband ordered a chicken dish that was just delicious. For dessert, we shared a dessert with honey ice cream and carmel sauce. It was served to us in four sections so we each had our own section - the dessert was great. The service was good - the food was wonderful - the restaurant was full on a Sunday evening. When in this area, we will return to this restaurant.

Neighborhood gem with exceptional service

By Leapsandbounds |

This was our first time eating at Garibaldi's and it is a new favorite. We two were with a private party of 32 in the back room. Our menus was pre-selected with three choices for each course. My husband had the spicy lamb on a bed of aromatic couscous, and roasted broccoli; everything about it was perfect for him; I had the wild mushroom risotto, which on a cold winter nite was true comfort food. The room was packed and is very small when seating 32 people, but the service was extraordinary. Pilar was our server, and with crush of our group, continuing wine pourings, the special requests, she remained engaged, sunny, and efficient. In short, she along with the bussers and servers under her, gave all of us perfect service. Great food and great service

Super tasty well prepared food

By 33map |

This is a neighborhood restaurant. Not sure why reviewers are calling in Mediterranean it is 100% Italian and very good Italian. The pasta is perfect, the chicken milanese outstanding and moist.

Interesting And Inventive Food

By badddriva |

We stopped by for just a glass of wine before dinner but stopped back to eat our interest being piqued by some of the more unusual offerings on the menu. As we so often find the starters were far more interesting than a lot of the main courses so we ate tapas style. A excellent riff on caponata was served as an appetiser, and we moved on to several dishes all good, the most memorable being brussel sprouts with roasted peppers, lemon anchovy and parsley. We liked the atmosphere but it is very buzzy and the tables quite close together.

Lovely setting, delicious food

By Apsaramaiden |

Our concierge from Hotel Drisco recommended and made reservations. A quick walk and we were there. Service is professional w/out being cloying. Both diners thoroughly enjoyed the salad, appetizers and entree and dessert selection. Having a petite sized dessert was really a nice touch! The tables are tight, so while the overall ambiance of the restaurant is very nice, you are very close to others tables and conversations. Would definitely return again.

Very good dining experience

By BobR90 |

Restaurant was recommended by our nearby hotel. My partner and I rated the whole dinner experience here highly. The restaurant has a stylish and very agreeable ambience. The food was very well presented and cooked. Our main waiter [ don't remember his name unfortunately ] was friendly and attentive - he checked in on us regularly. This restaurant has in my view all the hallmarks of a good restaurant, where all three important elements are in synch - visual appeal / ambience, quality of food, and timely, attentive service

FIRST RATE.

By stan w |

My wife and I had dinner at Garibaldi's on a weekday evening. The olive oil brought out to go with the bread was warm, had chopped olives, capers and crushed garlic in it, as well as some green and black whole olives; the waiter said that the combination was reduced once or twice before being served; it was outstanding with the bread. We were torn making choices for dinner; everything sounded so good. We split their chopped salad served with a buttermilk dressing; it was outstanding. I had their marinated lamb tenderloins (three of them!) over couscous and broccoli; I have never seen lamb tenderloins before; they almost melted in your mouth and also were outstanding. My wife had risotto with mushrooms and they were outstanding as well! This is the "go to" restaurant if you are in the Pacific Heights/Presidio area. You cannot go wrong here!

Wonderful Pacific Heights restaurant

By Shelley M |

Garibaldi's is a small neighborhood restaurant with tons of atmosphere. Nice menu selection ensures thee is something for everyone. Good wine list and choice of craft beers. Service is attentive and friendly, food is excellent. Loads of atmosphere. Overall, an excellent choice for dining in Pacific Heights.

Great, great experience

By AlphaDog71 |

Recommended by our hotel (Hotel Drisco - AWESOME!), the space and staff are superb and the food was if not the best, then 1A of all the meals we had in San Fran. Try the Braised Short Rib, seriously!

Meager portions of fish, seafood, and meat

By SFguy162 |

This used to be a good restaurant, one of our favorites. Last night we noted how it had gone downhill. The portions of fish, seafood, and meat are the smallest of any restaurant I've ever eaten at. The calamari appetizer contained about four very small chunks of calamari. They should either drop this from their menu or provide a more generous portion at a higher price. My husband order the medallions of lamb. It too was a meager serving of lamb. He noted that the lamb was the cheapest cut of lamb available. I ordered the flank steak, which was also a meager portion. The women next to our table ordered the halibut. It was a thin sliver, about one-half of what would be a normal serving in a restaurant. In terms of value for your money, it's a ripoff. For the same cost, you can eat at a better restaurant that gives you normal portions of expensive items.

excellent

By kathy s |

We dinned the 2 other couples great atmosphere and wonderful food. This is a locals place and from I understand has been around a long time. We tried a bit of everything, all delicious.

Limited Menu Though Very Tasty Choices

By JillClardy |

We visited early on a week night, so few tables were occupied. The tables are quite close together, so I'm glad we were there early with no one seated next to us, as it would have been impossible to have private conversations. Parking was easy, and we found a free spot just around the corner. The menu has a limited number of choices in each category, but we were quite happy with our choices of pasta with pork sugo, pork chop, and halibut. Service was prompt and pleasant, and the food was beautiful on the plate. The wine list was decent, with a nice variety of good wines by the glass.

Hit & Miss

By Jamof4 |

Garibaldi's had such great reviews, I was really was hoping to have a better experience than we did. They did great in some areas and failed miserably in others. Nice decor, a full bar, and a great menu. We had reservations and were seated immediately, but it's a tight squeeze between tables. I'm thin, and I had to very carefully maneuver my way between ours and our neighbor's table to sit on the bench seat. Knowing your butt is going to be inches from someone's face just to try to turn into your seat is a bit awkward. I can't imagine what bigger customers do. The chair on the other side of the table is just hard wood, which got really uncomfortable for my husband after awhile. First we ordered cocktails, a margarita & one of their "classic" cucumber martini's. The margarita was fantastic! The cucumber martini was horrible! The combination of sour, cucumber, and alcohol was a definite miss. Appetizers were good, but nothing to rave about. We had a Garibaldi salad and the risotto croquettes. By the time the appetizers came, we'd been seated just under an hour, and we finally got to order the main course. A full hour later the main course arrived! It was delicious though. We ordered the chicken Milanese and the Filet Mignon. When our server finally came to take our dessert order we decided to order it to go. We wanted dessert, but couldn't handle sitting there any longer. Over two hours on a hard wood chair was more than my husband was willing to take. Plus, it was VERY noisy and difficult to have a conversation. We ordered the almond brown butter cake with strawberry ice cream and basil ganache. It sounded delicious, but we were surprised when we opened it back at our hotel room. The cake was a few crumbled chunks of Bisquick like dry bisquits...completely inedible, and the basil ganache was more like a small dollop of frosting. The strawberry ice cream was delicious though. For the price, I expected much more. Maybe we'll give it one more chance on a less busy night.

Quiet Business Lunch Spot

By Derman |

nice and quiet - that's how i like my business lunches. We wrote on the table cloth (paper over cloth, actually), eavesdropped on two society women talking about their philanthropic efforts, had the special and a salad - tasty food and good service.

Cozy and yummy with a touch of class.

By Gale M |

I been to this restaurant twice now. Special menu between 5 and 6 pm. Items are all 1/2 price. Alcohol as well. Had a delicious cobb salad. Hamburger cooked just the way I like. Crispy fried potatos with extra seasonings on top. You sit in the bar section, very cozy. We each had a dessert, not 1/2 price. Service is very well done and neat. Nice place to go.

Delicious lunch or dinner

By bldit2 |

This is a local place for us and we find the service generally very good. The food is delicious, but may be on the pricey side. So Wish they and more SF places would serve local fish like Petrale Sole or Monterey Sand Dabs! We did have an issue this time with Open Table...then Maitre D’. Tried to book in the morning with Open table, told no settings available. Tried again later, same response. Once again and got a 6pm booking for four. Wound up arriving ten minutes early and were made to stand at entrance, when others were clearly seated and were being served ??? Not very gracious, we should have been seated and allowed to order drinks. Place was set up and obviously ready to go. A member of our party is handicapped but didn’t want to make an issue...shouldn’t have had to! Anyway, point is restaurant was almost empty for over an hour. Don’t use Open table!

Lunch Break with a Great Glass of Chardonnay!

By Jean C |

I was staying near and had just gotten in from airport around noon. I saw this was close so walked up. Had a nice big salad (which is exactly what I wanted, nice a simple) and then a wonderful, yes expensive, glass of Chardonnay. Wonderful. Would have had a second, but I don't drink two at lunch! The staff was really nice and people seemed to be regulars here. I hope to return!

Good food, nice place

Food was excellent. I had a salad with peaches that was superb, nice combination of tastes and peaches perfectly ripe and tart. Had the lamb for main course - it was SUPERB, with great fire-grilled taste. the accompanying couscous was almost ruined by a heavy sauce, but nothing could ruin the lamb. Others at my table had salmon and calamari and seemed quite pleased.

Do they really care?

I visited San Francisco with wife from 31 March to 6 April and set about organising a gourmet marathon. We dined on seven successive nights in AQ, Gary Danko, Garibaldi, Per Diem, Slanted Door, Bushi Tei and Velvet Room in Clift hotel. I am writing up a separate review for each for comparison purposes. They can be found by following the Raysy reviewer link under each restaurant name. Our third Restaurant was Garibaldi. This had been recommended by a friend from San Francisco who used the site www.opentable.com a lot to book restaurants. We then discovered that Garibaldi’s offered a special 30% off when you book and pay $10 through opentable. So, the economics of the place looked good. We had an early booking and there wasn’t much atmosphere in the place when we arrived. The menu was standard Italian fare and the portions were big … particularly by European standards. Our waiter was quite disinterested and reminded me of one of those people you meet and talk with at a party who always seems to be looking over your shoulder past you to see if they can find someone more interesting. Starters were big, but we decided to share two … the papas bravas quebradas (essentially roasted potatoes with aioli sauce) and the grilled calamari. Both were good but nothing special. For mains I had the scallops and wife had the bucatini puttanesca (wild shrimp, capers, olives and cherry tomatoes). The scallops were ok, but the shrimp dish was very heavy. We drank a bottle of Hawley viognier from Sonoma (a reasonable $49). In spite of the economics we declined dessert and headed off. We had got some value for our net outlay, but our experience had been in the “nothing special” category. Maybe we weren’t made for early evening traditional Italian eating in America?

Great experience

We ordered from the SF Restaurant Week menu--it's a great deal and offers some of their best menu items. But, I do want to note that everything on their regular dinner menu was reasonably priced and I would definitely come back again and pay the full price for everything we ate. We had the Risotto Croquettes and Garibaldis Salad to start. We ordered the Cioppino and Chicken Breast Milanese. And had Profiteroles and the Chocolate Budino for dessert. Everything we had was very flavorful and prepared perfectly. Our server was incredibly sweet and attentive. Dinner went very smoothly--just the right amount of time between ordering drinks and food, check-ins from the server, refills, etc. We never felt rushed and never felt like we were left waiting too long. It was honestly pretty perfect. It can get a little loud when the restaurant is full but otherwise the ambiance is great--a little small, but great for an intimate dinner or a small gathering of friends.

Not really special, and with an attitude that is surprising

The entrees were OK at best. The wine list is very outdated. We ordered a 2010 vintage and they brought a 2012 and huffed away when I pointed out the different vintage. The upper room can be very loud due to the low ceiling.

Lucky to be with the locals to experience Garibaldi's

By David J |

We visited Garibaldi's on a Saturday night with family to celebrate a birthday. This restaurant is everything you want in a local establishment; friendly, lively, great wine list, and a unique menu. The waiter was knowledgeable and attentive without being on top of us. The menu had something for everyone and when we made a personal request, they accommodated without hesitation. If you can get a table, take it.

Delicious!

Lucky to get a corner table on Thurs night, as it's a bit too energetic for conversation. However, the food is fantastic!

Tasty But Crowded

By CTMans |

On a recent weekday, early in evening, the bar was hopping but there were few diners upon arrival. We were seated at a small table for two in a row of a handful of empty tables of the same size. To my surprise, the hostess seated the next pair of diners at the very next table when we could easily have had a bit more privacy for some time. The food was delicious, but I was surprised by the action of the hostess.

One of the best and most elegant restaurants

By marrei |

This place is apparently simple but actually the quality is very high, the drinks very good, some of the food is exceptional and is also very elegant. I highly recommend it

You won't be disappointed here.

Staying for a few nights in Pacific Heights and hotel recommended this nearby restaurant. Checked it out on this site and all looked good. Exceeded expectation. Great ambience, great service, interesting menu and well presented and delicious food. Go here.

Great Food and Good Value

By Gregory L |

The food and atmosphere are great. With three in our party, we had the filet mignon, the chicken milanese, and the seared tuna. The filet was excellent and had good flavor. The wine-caper sauce on the chicken was also very good. If there were more bread on the table, one might have been tempted to saturate the bread in the sauce! I had the seared tuna. The tuna was not very tasty and it left me a bit disappointed as I received a sinewy piece of tuna. The tuna was pretty rare and I appreciated this, but I would not order the tuna again. Finally, the cauliflower overshadowed the rest of the ingredients for the tuna dish. I recommend the burrata mozzarella for an appetizer. One critique of the restaurant. It can get very loud or noisy. Overall, the restaurant is very good and I would return.

Perfect lunch spot

Garibaldi's is a great spot for lunch. Lovely area with easy street parking. The burger and salad were deliicious and good value. Good, attentive service and everything was very well presented. A nice area to stroll around after lunch.

Superb Italian, quaint setting in San Francisco

By Brian C |

While visiting friends in San Francisco, they took us to Garibaldi's for dinner. The setting was elegant, sophisticated and energetic. I was pleasantly surprised by the prices. Great value for the quality of food served. They start you our with great bread and a beautiful warm olive tapenade. Don't waste the juice! I started the the Risotto Balls (killer) followed by Pappardelle with sausage and fennel which was sublime. For a special treat, order the roasted Brussels sprouts for the table. They were GREAT. Yes,..let me say that again,....order the Brussels sprouts. Desert killed it as well! Don't screw around,...go right for the Profiteroles. Visit this spot and you will not be disappointed. Killer!

Okay restaurant

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel. It has a nice atmosphere, lively and crowded. Service was a tad slow. At times we lost sight of our waiter for too long. Food was good but not outstanding although the prices were high. I would not hurry back.

Good lunch

This was my second time visiting Garibaldi's. I was in a party of three - we arrived for lunch around 1 pm so the primary crowd was starting to leave. Two had the chopped salad which was very good and filling. I had the French dip which was quite tasty. We had ice teas with our meals. The total came to $62.75 before tip. I would certainly visit them again.

Nice lunch spot

I visited this place on a business trip with a client and colleague. The food was very good. We had a turkey breast club, a Milanese salad and a vegetable salad. The service was average - our waiter could have been more attentive. With a couple sport teas, our bill was $52.68 before tip. I'd visit again.

Disappointing St. Valentine's Day meal

By DerAlteBach |

I am fully aware that restaurants are generally packed on February 14th. Consequently, it's usually hard for visitors to get a decent meal, and I am grateful that Garibaldi's was able to accommodate us. Furthermore, I am equally well aware that many restaurants offer a special limited menu on St. Valentine's Day, to facilitate the feeding of a larger number of diners than usual. However, the circumstances do not excuse the fact that the piece of prime rib that I was served was as tough as nails. The waiter saw me struggling with an ordinary knife, and brought me a steak knife. However, with that piece of meat, nothing short of a laser could have cut it cleanly. Even with the steak knife, the best I could manage was to hack the prime rib. The three desserts offered were somewhat uninspiring. Garibaldi's is best avoided on St. Valentine's Day.

Everything was excellent

By 2004_Retirees |

We visited Garibaldo's based on a recommendation of a friend. Everything, from appetizers, entree, dessert and cocktails was excellent. Our friend highly recommended the lamb dish and our waiter said it was the most popular dish. Wow was it great. The next time we are in San Francisco, we will definitely return to Garibaldi's.

Excellent restaurant near the Drisco

Excellent food, very good service and very pleasant atmosphere. It feels like a place for locals. Not a cheap one, by the way.
