Good BBQ in SD!

By Geoff W |

I love BBQ and will seek it out when I travel. This place in the downtown Gaslamp district in San Diego was legit. The place smelled wonderful! I had the smoked tri-tip sandwich and my friend had the pulled pork sandwich. Both were fabulous and filling. The place was pretty empty so we had the place to ourselves.

Great atmosphere and great food.

By A N |

Really good, good atmosphere as well, are waiter was very accommodating for a couple of foreigners. All in all good place to eat and unwind.

If it wasn't for Red, I wouldn't come back

By C-Note831 |

Let me tell you something. Ask if Red is working. If she's not working, keep walking. She took care of my family. My two kids and I stumbled on this place looking for a quick bite to eat and brewsky for old dad. We got the brewsky and the food wasn't that bad, either. I kept it simple with some tri-tip tacos. Good stuff. I paired it with a Ballast Point IPA (local SD brew). It was delicious, and before I was done with it, red had read my mind and was already bringing me another. My kids opted for Shirley Temples, and we were all in heaven. Great sports bar, and was open on Thanksgiving.....another bonus. We needed just a snack to hold us over for mom's turkey. that's what we got, and the rest is history. Red was our waitress, bartender and sweet smiley face. She said she was new there, but I would have guessed it was her place and idea from the get-go.

Good food and service

By JMP |

Food was pretty good, service very good, fairly quiet but enjoyable atmosphere with tonnes of sport on, and ice cold beer. Would recommend.

Delicious BBQ

By LuizVale |

If you're in need of great BBQ, ice cold beer and good service, this is your place. It isn't fancy, but it's family and friends friendly, and you'll have a good time.

Stop for the beer but pass on the food

By Steve R |

Stopped in to a bite while walking around the Gaslamp. We ordered the nachos with chicken and the fries mozzarella sticks. The nachos were just tortilla chips with canned nacho cheese sauce, jalapeños and chicken that didn’t have much flavor. The fried mozzarella were just store bought frozen style fried up With some chipotle sauce. Beer was cold and cheap so that was the only good thing.

Great place for lunch if you are in the Gaslamp district.

By Hogride |

Friends were showing me San Diego for the first time and we finally decided on BBQ for lunch. This place has lots of TVs on sports channels and convenient to the main drag. Everyone was served quickly, and the food was pretty good for a tourist area. They have several local beers and they were good as well. I'd recommend if you are in the area.

BBQ sauce was tasty

By JustAnotherElvis |

Portions were excellent. There was way too little BBQ sauce on my pulled pork sandwich. They brought extra when I asked and it was awesome! Overpriced was my opinion but it may be the location!

Great Bar but avoid the BBQ chicken.

By Tony A |

They have a great selection of beers and very friendly bar staff. I ordered the two meat combo plate and was very disappointed. The chicken was fresh out of the freezer, put on the grill briefly to give some grill marks and then smothered in BBQ sauce and mushrooms. It was horrible. The lady from the kitchen who asked how it was just said "i'm sorry" when I said it was frozen chicken quickly heated and covered with sauce. This is not Texas Style BBQ. I paid and left.

Loved the place! Loved the food! Great friendly service.

We spent a full week in the Gas Lamp District the week of Thanksgiving (during Covid-with outdoor only dining). Stumbled across this place our first day & stopped for lunch. I had the Turkey, Avocado, BLT sandwich with coleslaw. My husband had the Sliders. The food was DELICIOUS. Our server was great and friendly. She gave us a 15% discount card in case we wanted to come back. We came back the next day for dinner (again delicious). We came back a third time (unfortunately our previous server was off that day), we brought the whole family (eleven of us) we sat six at one table-five at the other, for distancing. Everyone enjoyed our lunch that day & most took home leftovers. Will DEFINITELY visit next time we are in town! If you are grabbing lunch in the Gas Lamp- definitely try this!!

Good Food, Cold Beer, Cheap Drinks, Great service

By Ron M |

They are changing the name to Gaslamp BBQ. We stopped in here while walking around the Gamplamp Quarter one evening. We saw the cheap drinks sign and decided to try it!! Then we ordered some food which was delicious. Try the pulled pork sandwich or sliders, the meatball sliders, the baby back ribs or the tri-tips. Inside dining with lots of tv's and limited outside dining to people watch or enjoy the sun! We were here late one night for drinks and snacks. Decided to go back 2 days later to have an early dinner!! Tasty!! We will go back. Please let me know if this review helps you! Thanks!

Racial profiling

By gearsp11 |

I ate here last night (8/13/2017). I was meeting up with a friend from Indonesia who has a scholarship to study in the US funded by the US state department. My friend was wearing his traditional Indonesian dress, a shirt with a sarong that was hand-embroidered on his island, and I was dressed "normally" by American standards. He's also a 50 year old dude, so in no way "underage." When we approached the restaurant (around 9:30 PM), there was a security person who told us that the restaurant was "no longer serving food." I was confused because I could see people eating inside of the restaurant. I asked if I could go in and ask the servers if the kitchen was still open, and he told me that I could go in, but my friend could not. I then explained that my friend was Indonesian and wearing traditional Indonesian garb, and that all he wanted was to do was eat a bar b q sandwich! After more back and forth like this, he finally allowed us inside. I am disturbed by the unabashed racial profiling found at this restaurant. I, a tall white woman, was told that I could enter the restaurant, but my short, Indonesian friend was told that he could not. This resulted in an incredibly uncomfortable experience, especially for my friend, who left feeling unwelcome and unsettled. Had I not promised my friend a bbq sandwich for dinner, I would have gone elsewhere after that ordeal. I have no idea if this is a restaurant-wide issue (our server was totally fine), or simply one member of the personnel, but I would think twice if you are a person of color considering visiting this establishment. Might save you some grief and frustration.

Good lunch stop!

By Bob M |

Had an excellent BBQ Pork Sandwich, with Cole Slaw and Onion Rings. Server was very friendly and attentive. Recommend bringing friends, good atmosphere.

BBQ at a Reasonable Price

By Angelo S |

A "work" dinner for BBQ is always a good time. We were here on a mid-week night, so it was not very crowded and were able to get seated quickly. Very standard BBQ fare (brisket, pork, chicken, ribs) with standard sides. They have a good selection of beverages, but the waitstaff did not seem very knowledgeable about them. The service was a bit slow given how few people were in the place. Food-wise, the pulled pork and Rib combo I had was pretty good, but nothing to rant and rave about. The mac and cheese was pretty good and the slaw hit the spot. If you are looking for an outstanding BBQ, this isn't the place. If you are looking for BBQ to satisfy a craving, this will be the place!

Nice place for a quick lunch

By Joe R |

Food was very good. The most surprising thing was how good the French Onion Soup was!!!!! It was definitely in my top 5 french onions soups. I also had the tri tip sandwich which was very flavorful but a tad dry. Added some bbq sauce and it was fine.

Some old bar place hiding behind a new name

By Xybek |

The service was friendly and fast. Food though, "meh" and expensive. This area is expensive but there better places to eat at these prices. A "tri-tip" sandwich is over $16, and was general food-service type food. Three small chicken tacos as an appetizer were small and the chicken was dry and hard. They may be honestly trying, this seems like an older bar that has been renamed and maybe making a new start. The food is simply unremarkable except for the high prices, there are much better places to eat in this area. This seemed more for drawing tourists in, which we were I guess. No reason to return.

SO DISGUSTING

By lh91lh |

It was late, we were tired and hungry. To make it brief dirty disgusting place with the bad service. Food is unable service super slow. A untalented chef in a crock pot does a better bbq dinner. Stay away - waste of money and time.

Good BBQ

By tenisheat2016 |

We are visiting from Texas so you know we know and love some BBQ and this place did not disappoint. The pulled pork was seasoned well, lean and tender. My son had the tri-tip sandwich which he raved about. They have a great variety of beers and good drink specials. The sides were quite tasty as well.

Delicious

By dm670 |

Loved the food here. The bbq ribs were so good and cooked perfectly, as the pulled pork. We were seated right away and our server was great. Many different specials and happy hour specials too, lots of different beer to chose from. Would recommend it here as there are so many other choices in Gaslamp.

Sports bar in Gaslamp district

By WorldTravelers34 |

My wife and I stopped here with some friends for a few drinks while walking through this area. Gaslamp BBQ is located near the corner of Island and Fifth Avenue in the Gas Lamp Quarter downtown San Diego. They have a nice sidewalk space to have a drink or bite to eat and the inside is very comfortable with lots of flat screens, but not a typical sport type of bar. The drink prices here were reasonable. We did not eat here so cannot comment on the food.

A great option

By Jack H |

I travel in to San Diego occasionally and usually stay in the Gaslamp area. Finding Gaslamp BBQ on my recent trip was a nice find and a great option. Good BBQ, large portions and a more than fair price point. Service was very good, food and bev in the area is clearly competitive and a bit of a feast or famine thing for survival, it is my hope they continue to do well because it was very good and a great option in a sea of Mexican food restaurants.

Great staff

By Tanya D |

Well first night for dinner in San Diego came across this little gem. Staff Sam and Spencer made our night five stars the food was great the best ribs we have had so far on our holiday over from Australia. Drinks were good price . Overall a fantastic first night of eating and drinking.

Birthday Lunch

By Dorrel R |

The San Diego plan was to meet an old friend who is in the Marines stationed in Temecula. Plans changed when he shipped out to Guam. I decided that i would make the best of the trip and booked a hotel. I have been to San Diego before and enjoyed climate. On August 25 i decided to have BBQ for lunch. I checked the Gaslamp listings for BBQ and found Gaslamp BBQ. When i arrived i met Red the server. I was seated in station 11 inside by the window. I ordered half the baby back ribs and a stella cidre and i asked Red what side i should order. She recommended the potato salad. The meat was off the bone. Nice texture and flavor.Very tasty. The potato salad was awesome. I finished my meal. All in all Gaslamp BBQ is a great place for good pork BBQ. Service was good. Place was clean.

Very good ribs in a simple sports bar atmosphere

By Noxgear |

We were at a conference and wanted ribs. A half slab of the pork ribs was about a pound of meat! good sauce and the meat was falling off the bones. Some of the best ribs I have had. The atmosphere in this place is very simple, quite loud with TVs and the patrons. But, the food was good, fries were good, cole slaw, too.

Excellent Ribs

By Rauli H |

This place looks little bit like fast food place from outside but inside the place is normal ribs place with relaxed atmosphere. Maybe that was the reason why it was not so busy when we went there. However the ribs were really great and half rack was big as full rack in many other places. We went there second time during our one week visit to San Diego and same excellent quality again. Almost went there third time since the ribs were so good. Highly recommend this place for ribs lovers.

Great ribs!

By mister3dg |

Went here for dinner & to watch the game. Good bar, decent selection of draft beers. Friendly staff and good service. Highly recommend the ribs!

Disappointing

By Doughnut83 |

Came here for BBQ and was disappointed. Had the Chicken wings to start which were lovely, but my main of Pulled pork and fries was dry, it was a large portion and by the time I had finished it looked like I had barely touched. Atmosphere inside was also lacking

Not in La Jolla! It's in San Diego!

By Theresa989 |

We stopped in to watch a game and have some apps and drinks. It was very busy - food was ok. We had a coupon that was handed to us on the street so we thought we'd try it out. Felt bad for the staff - only three people in a crowded room due to the basket ball finals game. Plenty of tv's and average good - but the staff was really great!

Great Happy Hour

By UKStevieH |

Bar tender had disappeared and waitress served some in front of me. She aplogised and bought my beer! Great Sculpin IPA for 7 and pulled pork sliders for 6! Great 'cue taste.

Best baby back ribs!

By BimBim94 |

They rather should write "best baby back ribs" than " best tri-tips" we tried both and the tri-tips we're just really dry.... The rest was ok ;-) enjoy!

Good food

By BagmanNZ |

We came here our first night in San Diego and it was a good choice. The pulled pork sandwich is spectacular with more pork than I've ever seen in a sandwich before. The mac and cheese was good but had what I suspect was chillies in it. I can't say that's something that works for me. My wife had the caesar salad I think and loved it. We had $3 beers during their happy hour and the service was friendly and helpful. If we'd had time we would have come back. We certainly regret having gone to another BBQ place we were near (I've reviewed) when we could have come here again a bit later. Lesson learned for next time.

Best Meal We Had on our Trip!

By Matthew M |

We picked this restaurant because it had good happy hour prices and they had our favorite beer on tap....Magic Hat #9! We got a great surprise when we ordered the tri-tip sandwich. It was fabulous! The prices were great, the food was great and the service was really great! Highly recommend visiting!

Good, cheap BBQ

By kurtprough |

This is a great BBQ place if you like real BBQ. This place serves up some great BBQ, not that food slathered in sauce, but real BBQ. The food quality is great and it is well priced. I highly recommend the All Stars sports bar and BBQ. Stop by, grab a beer, and eat some great BBQ. Try the tri-tip BBQ sandwich, my favorite.

Great food at great prices

By PeterUSA55 |

If you want lots of food - this is the place. Try the babyback burger - no idea of how many calories - but it's got to be a lot - but you can't put it down once you start. Great service

dinner and sports

By Virgi |

Good service. varied menu. Very good burgers and salads. quality meat. perfect for a beer while watching baseball

Good option - nothing fancy but good food.

By Tiberiu_Baranyi |

Trying to find a place to eat between 2 sessions of meeting we ended up in this place. Here are the findings: - location - Island Ave. San Diego Gaslamp quarter. Good seating capacity inside - a few tables outside so you can sit and enjoy the sunny days of So-Cal even in the winter. - service - kind of slow and a little lay-back so I would say average. - food - several good options on the menu - we went for a rib burger with onion rings the rib part was nice - soft and juicy and the onion rings also good so overall good food from my perspective - nothing really special but good. On the menu you will find several other options and also in terms of drinks they are well provisioned. We were in-between meetings so no drinks for us. - prices - a decent price to quality ratio but overall it was not overpriced - average range - and they take credit card so no issue from the that perspective. I would say an average place - good food but nothing special overall still a good option

Great place for BBQ

By HotRodPinata |

This place has a great Tri Tip sandwich. The meat was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Tender and juicy. I can also say that the pulled pork sandwich was really good too. If you're looking for a good pulled pork sandwich this is the place. Don't waste you time going Phil's BBQ. There's also a $3 and $5 beer menu. Good friendly service.

Excellent value

By Elrond55 |

Strolling around San Diego downtown we stumbled on this little BBQ place, unassuming and a little out of the way. Do not know exactly what moved us, but it turned out in a very good choice: a very good selections of beers, and the food was outstanding. We had ribs and pulled pork, and loved it. The waiter was always ready, without being pressing, and the atmosphere warm and welcoming.

Great Sports bar with good BBQ

By juneann116 |

Several TV's with your choice of game. BBQ was smokey but also a bit peppered. Portions are huge and onion rings wonderful so splurge on them

Delicious food

By KPJ |

Ribs were delicious, service was outstanding, sat on the patio and enjoyed our food and some wine while people watching, on a fabulous evening.

For ribs, drinks and sports

By Anna G |

Good place to go for bbq, drinks and watching sports. Sat outside to eat and had a view of a screen no matter which way you looked! I am a huge fan of bbq, especially ribs, so I always try to visit a bbq restaurant wherever in the world I am.

Lovely Staff!

By Jem1093 |

The $3 beer signs out the front drew us into this place. It wasn't flash on the inside though had a lovely meal and had a few drinks at the bar. The staff was friendly. Great place to watch sport!

Terrible

By Steven K |

First of all this is not smoked meat. They say it is but it’s not. Then they were out of a few things and when you only have a few “smoked” items to offer and you’re out of them? And this isn’t prime time or a huge weekend for San Diego. Also hardly any wines available despite a decent wine list. Really poor show. Don’t bother with this place it’s bogus.

Great

By AdventuresofGemma |

Reasonably priced food, beer and wine. Some good options for vegetarians despite being a BBQ place. Friendly service.

Amazing Find

By AllieJosie1 |

We ate here last night and had an amazing dinner. We were looking for a casual place to have dinner. The Babyback Ribs too die for and the sides were all great. Kids had good meals too. Best was to get 20% off of an already smoking deal.

Solidly Average or a bit below

By dshafs |

Pulled pork was generous portion but incredibly dry. Tri-tip sandwich was incredibly dry. Both sandwiches needed gobs or condiments to be edible. French fried were OK. Service was pleasant but slow. Would not go back. Plenty of better BBQ choices everywhere.

$5 beers...

By BridgesFamilyFun |

It was close to our hotel, within a great distance of other places and did I mention $5 beers? Bartender was super nice and attentive to when it was time for a refill...and $5 beers!!

Perfect Lunch

By shop4ever |

We stopped here for a quick bite and were very pleased. Had a turkey sandwich with avocado. Super flavor. The server was friendly. The bar area seemed like a good crowd. Enjoy!

Amazing grill food.

By Arik G |

We came here for dinner and weren't dissapointed. The Ribs, Burgers and Pulled Pork were amazing, one of the best we had in the whole US. prices are fair and the drinks menu was wide.

perfect for us

By Jessica M |

my husband and I have been coming to San Diego for Comic Con for years and a few years ago we ran into this amazing place. Now we make sure we stop in for the smoked BBQ sandwiches and the friendly faces. the food is tasty and the staff and management are the best!

Good meat, salad needs work

By ShonkeyDonkey |

I honesty feel like I had some good proper American slow cooked bbq pork here, but the salad was really basic, no love. I know you don’t go to a place like this for the salad but that happened to be what I really wanted at the time. Everyone I was with had a burger. Consensus was that everything was fine but nothing to write about. The meat (with the salad that I had) (pulled pork) was tender and tasty and served with a sweet bbq sauce. It was good and the serving size was spot on, not huge but plenty for lunch. The service was fast on a busy day. I’d probably go back again if I was in the area and try the beef.

Big Portions, Average Food

By nucenturion |

Dropped in for dinner with a friend on a recent evening. I had the pulled pork sandwich which was huge, accompanied by a mound of fries. I'm not sure if it was the pork or the bun (which was too big and a bit soggy), but something had an odd, licoricey flavor. The fries were very crispy and more to my liking than the pork was. Service was very good.

OK food.

By Val O |

We visited this place during Comic-Con, so the menu was limited. You go up to the counter and order and they bring it to where you are sitting. My husband and I shared a rack of ribs, which was more than enough for both of us. The salad that came with it was fine, but nothing special. The ribs were tender but, again, nothing special. The atmosphere was loud but pleasant and the employees friendly and helpful. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. An average BBQ place.

GREAT BBQ

By tmilton2004 |

We went to Phil's on Cinco de Mayo. We were hungry and Phil's helped us out. I had steak and it was so good! My s/o had the ribs and something that tasted like roast. It was also very good. Service was good and so was the atomosphere!

Great BBQ

By JL2z |

We stopped there for lunch. My husband had a very juice done to order burger and I had the tri-tip sandwich. It was hard to choose from the beer list but we got Mermaid's Red made in Coronado. We ever get back to San Diego , it is a MUST come back. Also good drink specials.

Excellent food

By Wendy L |

I had the BBQ chicken Caesar salad, my husband had the baby rib burger, we had fries onion rings and coleslaw. A beer and a soft drink. Excellent value for $63. The food was tasty and well cooked with large portions. Friendly staff. Highly recommend

Good pulled pork and bbq tri-tip

By packmansbuddy2016 |

Ate here three times last week. Food is good, moderately priced. Full bar service and friendly waiters. One son even ordered a cheeseburger and said it was great. Almost all Gaslamp restaurants are open- air which is nice. Only issue is that there is a cigar bar two doors down and if the wind is blowing the wrong way.........not good.

Great Ribs

By Graham035 |

We were staying in the Gaslamp district and we wanted to get good ribs without having to go too far. The bar is pretty basic but the staff were friendly, the service was good and the ribs were excellent.

Not your Southern BBQ style

By FoodForOnTheMove |

I knew something was different when our three meat BBQ tray arrived with grilled onions and mushrooms on top. I seem to think that this particular mixture had a tendency to change the flavor of the meat and not for the better. The sliced beef was a little tough, the pull pork was just average and the ribs were actually good. Our server was the best. She was quick to help and always aware of our needs. This was not your good southern BBQ that we been accustomed too. We were very disappointed to say the least. Hope it was just a fluke.

Delicious bbq next time you're at comic con.

By Yoosik Ethan Oum |

During comic con, it's hard to find places nearby to eat that don't have a huge waiting list and not filled to capacity. Fortunately its not too far from the convention center, and is generally big enough to offer enough seating. Reasonable prices, delicious pulled pork and beans. You order/pay first, sit down, and then they will bring it right up to you. Much better than waiting for your food at the counter, picking it up and then trying to find a seat. Not a ton of choices on the menu but you will most likely find something on there to satisfy you.

Worth the Walk

By Mark C |

It was well worth the walk from the convention area to 5th. and Island Ave. I stop in every year to have some really good BBQ. Nothing fancy. Very clean. Great staff. Killer potato salad. I shall return.

Friendly atmosphere

By Sharon v |

We sat outside under the awning. Service was average. The nachos were great. It's location in the gas lamp district makes it a popular spot for lunch and beer. It's on a side street off of popular 5th Avenue so our view included delivery trucks and the loading and unloading of their wares. Nice big sports screen inside that could be viewed from my outdoor seat.

Don't eat here

By jenkinsonmike |

Dry chicken. Cold side dishes. Confused and indifferent service. Waitress took credit card, ran it through and then forgot to return it. The first time in forever I tipped nothing. Disappointed in the experience. Don't bother with this place. There are so many better restaurants in Gaslamp.

All day every day cheap drink specials....can't go wrong

By jadybugs |

We stumbled upon this little gem of a place and ended up returning a few times as how can you go wrong with a bud light for $3 and a glass a wine for $5. The pour wasn't small either it was a good size! We are from canada so we don't see these prices especially not all day every day. We never ate here but the food looked good! We really liked hanging out on the patio and people watching especially Friday night!

Super Chill and Great Food

By SophisticatedRedneck |

Ribs fell apart and were in general one of the best i have had. The service was second to none from the downtown restaurants we ate at, just a great sports bar and grill.

Affordable food and drink in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter

By Ken F |

We didn't know where to go for dinner and just walked down 5th Ave. We found a place that looked very nice. Luckily we checked the menue before entering, what we usually do. The prices were out of this world, so we started checking out a lot of restaurants. All the ones on the main streets were very pricey, so we started checking out the side streets. After a short time we stumbled accross this place. Inside it was like a sports bar with TVs/monitors where you could look at various games. But, they also have a few tables outside, which we chose. There were still a few tables vacant when we got there. Shortly after the place was full. We had a Chef's Special Salad, a Santa Fe Burger and 3 glasses of wine. We paid a little over $47, which is not cheap somewhere else, but here it is a decent price. The food was great, our waitor was very attentive, even though the place was packed. We'd come here again!

Expensive and unimpressive

By Brendan S |

Gaslamp BBQ has a pretty standard look and menu for a BBQ restaurant. The exception is the large drink menu, which includes some great craft beers, cocktails, wine and liquors. But at $15 for a cocktail and the better beers at $11, these drinks are seriously marked up. The BBQ menu is similarly large, but also expensive. The ribs, though nicely falling off the bone, were dry and bland unless drenched in sauce. In addition to the high prices, there was a 3% surcharge that was literally inexplicable: I asked the waitress and she could not explain what it was and removed it. The Gaslamp District is for tourists, and Gaslamp BBQ is a tourist trap restaurant that gets away with middling food, high prices and hidden fees because its customers are low-information tourists.

Half Chicken/Potato Salad

By Brandon P |

Nice little find in the Gaslamp District. Chicken was great, and the potato salad was fantastic. Reasonably priced and great service.

What a deal!

By Deano3933 |

San Diego can be an expensive place to eat but we found this place around the corner from our hotel I'm glad we did. $3 craft beer and $4 wine. Best deal in town even beating happy hour prices. We had the tacos appetizer with bbq and chicken and was quite tasty!!!

Can I take your order.....Hic!!!!

By Bob T |

You gotta love it, our waitress was stone cold drunk! She took our order and left. I said to my wife, “ she’s wasted!” A few minutes later she came back and asked us if we were ready to order!!! I ordered a bbq chicken salad and it was dry! My wife orDerek a bbq chicken sandwich. The bread was extremely soggy and the chicken was regular old chicken. We had to ask for bbq sauce for it. Not really impressed! It was a total disappointment!!

Great early dinner

By gbphipps |

We got into town hungry as we were still on east coast time and wanted a late afternoon dinner near our hotel. We checked a couple of other places which were not serving food yet. We took a chance on the barbecue place and were glad we did. We ordered a cocktail and some onion rings as a starter and they came out fresh, hot and with a yummy, peppery dipping sauce. My husband ordered the rib eye steak and asked how thick it was. The waitress answered honestly that it wasn’t thick. He ordered it “as rare as possible” with grilled vegetables. It was served perfectly to his liking and with a mushroom jus on the side. He was a happy man. I had pulled pork sliders. The barbecue sauce was very good and I added a little more from the container on the table as it was that good. Since it was the start of our vacation we had a couple more of their ample cocktails. Everything was delicious and the service was fast, friendly and personable. I recommend it!

damn good BBQ

By skipholmes69 |

have not been back in awhile but when i am in san diego i go here to watch sports and get great BBQ i will be coming back like every 6 months from mexico,as the gaslamp district is where it's at in SD

loved my meal!

By photoguy_10 |

I was looking for a good BBQ meal and once I looked at the large menu choice I decided to go with salmon and shrimp over a bed of rice and a generous portion of fresh grilled vegetables. It tasted like a home cooked meal. I couldn't believe how much good food was served. I was starving so the only thing left over was the huge portion of potato salad that was one of my side dishes. I ate at 3pm due to my body being on east coast time from arriving earlier that day. I was starved anyway due to missing lunch. Glad I was able to enjoy a great dinner. Just wish I could experience the BBQ I intended on having...instead of going the somewhat healthier route.

Great food

By Cld1966 |

My adult son and I ate there last night and really enjoyed it. The employees were so attentive and polite. We really liked the food. Although, my son didn’t care for the mac and cheese. He said it tastes like noodles with processed nacho cheese sauce. We’d go back for sure.

Great pre-Padres meal

By suts1 |

Excellent bbq dinner in heart of Gaslamp. Happy hour offers and 20% off food were welcome extras but it's not that pricey anyway. Made to feel very welcome by the staff and the locals (we were obviously tourists!) and they were great with the kids too. Good value bbq/bar food in a sports bar environment.

Friendly Staff - Hot Food

By Royston S |

The atmosphere is more bar that serves BBQ than the other way around. Severs were very nice and attentive. Food came out quick and hot. Most of the items had some heat to them. Flavor was good but the same as a lot of other BBQ.

Friendly service, average food

By DesertDom |

There is nothing great about this restaurant. They have a good selection of beers and the service is really friendly, but the food was just ok. Meh

Decent food, average everything else

By leigh b |

Looks like it had lots of potential but it was a disappointing visit. Service was certainly sub-par at best. Staff are quick to show their frustration with requests etc. Food was ok, some of it was cold. Portions are large and the ribs were very good. Maybe my biggest complaint is that the restaurant has a bad smoke odor. I felt like I could taste it in the food.

Great Food

By j r |

We saw a huge banner right on the Gaslamp street advertising to go to this place and we decided to give it a try. We loved it! The appetizers, the wines, salads, everything was great! We were just sorry we didn't know of this place sooner, it was our last day in SD. Next time for sure we will return to this place. What we like also about this place was that a lot of locals hanged out there, you didn't see the tourist much, which is what I like when we visit places.

Nice dinner

Welcoming restaurant with TVs at a nice volume, not at a disturbing level. We had burgers and sandwich. All of us got full and left happy. No trouble to split the bill to our liking. No space for dessert.

Unfussy, straightforward BBQ bar food

We were tired from our flight from Seattle and wanted some relatively simple comfort food. Gaslamp BBQ is a little divey looking from the outside, but the waitress was friendly, and the food good quality. My son's 6 chicken tenders were hot & crispy, not at all greasy, with a truly huge portion of excellent, thin-cut potato fries. The tenders were so nicely prepared, two still were a bit crunchy for a snack the next day. BBQ pulled pork sandwich was very large; the "side" order of cole slaw would have been enough for 4 people. My BBQ chicken sandwich was more of a thick piece of grilled chicken breast on sourdough bread, with lettuce, tomato and cheese, but with the sauce it was tasty enough, and half was enough for dinner for this older gal. Not a fancy place for takeout, but satisfying.

Very good BBQ and burgers

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. Seated right away. Server was very good and had drinks out fast. Pulled pork sandwich and bacon cheese burger were very good. Fries were hot and crisp. Would certainly come back!

Best Burger

Scouting for a cozy place to eat dinner on July 4 at the Gaslamp quarter. Ordered a Santa Fe Burger. As always, everything here is humongous served with heaps of avocado slices and crispy fries. It looked so appealing that i devoured it in a few minutes. Great atmosphere with many HDTVs on the wall to keep up with baseball scores. I may hang out here again instead of going to Petco Park

Stop in here because we saw the EURO soccer was on. Had a pulled pork sandwich. Lots of pulled porked with a smokey flavor and great coleslaw on top. The bar b question sauce was very tasty. Would recommend not on the beaten path but worth the slight walk off 5th street. The service was great Kelly was a great server. Enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

Even though this place has generally bad reviews, But, I wanted to try it myself. We sat outside. Although other places were very crowded, this place was very calm. We later understood the reason for this. I can say that everything was even below standard. BBQ sauce was too heavy. It tasted better without the sauce. The service wasn't bad. But, He just asked if he could bring the bill after the meal was over. In hospitality, when asked about this guest, it is understood to simply say "go". It's not necessary. It's not crowded anyway. We are already up.
