Good for people watching, decent bar, good for watching sports.

By beachbumjk |

Stopped by for a bite and to watch a Thunder game. Good service and decent food. Interesting foot traffic.

Pretty good, great place to watch the game

By ens982 |

I had scoped this place out to watch the Broncos game with my husband and it seemed great with all the TVs and open air bar. Service was good, we had numerous TVs within view of our table. The food was ok, I had the fish tacos which is supposed to be their 'best seller', the fish didn't have much flavor. My husband had wings and he was pretty pleased. Good drink specials, short draft beer list.

Loved the food and the service

By JoH883 |

What a great spot! The menu was full of delicious casual food, including some healthy options, the wine was cold, the waitress was delightful and hospitable, and we could catch up on all the sports news we'd missed over the past weeks of travelling. We really enjoyed dinner here.

Open air Bar and Grill

By RickZ255 |

When you eat inside, it is like being on any other bar's patio. The windows in the front of the restaurant slide aside giving you the experience of eating on a patio but not being near the street. The food was very good and they give you plenty to eat. Drinks and Beer are whatever you want. The wait staff was attentive quick with their service. Price was reasonable and in line with the other bars and restaurants in the City.

Brand New Upstairs

By HikeOps |

They just finished renovations and expanded their restaurant and bar up into the 3rd floor. You have to check it out!

Great Hangout

By Megnolia07 |

Gaslamp Quarters was such a fun area! Gaslamp Tavern was in a perfect location on 5th Ave. The bar is all open with a seating area outside. There were many TV's with all the football games on. The bathrooms were clean. The staff was friendly and quick. Awesome location! Great local beer selection. Typical sports bar menu. Highly recommended!

Feel like a local

By withliberty |

This place won't be for everyone, but it's definitely a great spot. I happened upon it because there were plenty of people wearing football jerseys (at least 8 teams represented) on a Sunday. The locals introduce themselves, the bartenders remember your name (and your beverage) and the bar food is well above average. It's a place where the windows are open, people smoke, someone will order a shot. I like how the staff readily shouts out to regular customers who happen to walk by the street. If you're looking for pompous high class, go elsewhere. If you want real San Diego, this is a great spot.

GasLamp District Must!

By Tom B |

I had a fantastic time here watching the debate and the yankees. Miguel is a fantastic bartender and more. Couldn't ask for more and will definitely return!

Simple but nice

By zdaati |

Super central and quite ok. Decent burger, tasty and quite loaded with a good ipa beer along. Nice service and loads of TV arounds

Fried Green Beans!

By Brenda G |

This is a nice little corner bar/restaurant in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter. The outside seating allows for some VERY interesting people-watching. The onion rings were amazing and only outdone by the fried green beans. We also tried the Tavern Burger, Spicy Garlic & Sriracha Wings and the Gaslamp Spinach Salad. Everything was excellent. The bartender was attentive and did a good job of keeping our beverage glasses full. The cocktails were a little ‘light’ but still decent for the price.

Eagles fans galore

By chrisdente |

In town for business and needed a place to meet friends and watch the Eagles pound the Skins on MNF. Found this place by chance and it was full of Eagles fans. Pretzel was good and the mustard was tasty. Solid beer list. It is basically open air so on a really hot day it may not be great. Fun times!!

Good food and service, spills onto the sidewalk

By World H |

This place caught my attention because of the bar seats outside on the sidewalk. I dined inside, and the pulled pork sliders were great, not your typical bar food. Service was swift and friendly. Recommended that you try this spot.

Really good sports bar/restaurant

By PalmettoAndMoon |

Great burgers, and very efficient and friendly wait staff! I also enjoyed the outdoor seating option.

Come at Happy Hour

By aktchr |

Great location to people watch. Bar service inside and along the sidewalk seating are. Great fries with bacon and cheese, plus a reasonable selection of beers on tap.

Another Unexpected "Find" While in San Diego

By 982edd |

I give this five stars with a bit of reservation, yet people need to not judge by outside appearance as several others have noted. Headed to SRO, a fun bar nearby, and needed food first . . . I asked someone near SRO where one might eat, and my friend and I ended up here--a block away. It is a happenin' place, for sure with every kind of person imaginable, no waiters (order at end of bar and be seated) with a number on your table. Full bar, strong drinks--even past happy hour. Great "bar and grill food" with a couple healthy choices. Nice service, even though we were ten minutes from kitchen closing. Don't be afraid to mix with this crowd for a nice bit of food and drink.

Sunday Happy Hour

By vagabondginger |

Walking around the Gaslamp it was feeling much more like old times and being vaccinated I was happy to sit inside at the wrap around bar. Good view of the street action. Miguel was a one man show and doing a pretty good job being short staffed. The mystery canned beer turned out to be a Fat Tire for just $4. The 3 sliders for $9 were just as good as they should be. My second beer I got the Stone Lime & Salt Buenaveza draft. Good stuff & good price. Thank you.

great atmosphere

By siggyiggy |

we went here to watch the clippers game and it was the perfect spot. outdoor/indoor with plenty of room to relax

Great bar, great service

By mister3dg |

Great place to stop for a beer & watch the game on one of the numerous screens. Friendly staff and excellent selection of beers & liquor. Even have outside smoking area with heaters. Definitely recommended.

Watched the superbowl here and had wings, salads, and a sandwich....and beer!

By glebo |

Great atmosphere - attentive wait staff. Nice selection of microbrews. overall a fun place to have an informal meal

Great Afternoon Hangout

By 60922Evc |

Great food, drinks, fun and close to our hotel. We like walking alot and this and several other gaslamp reataurants were close by.

Distinctly average

By DiscoClint |

My friends and I were trying to find somewhere for easy dinner and drinks on a Saturday night and settled on the Gaslamp Tavern based on TA reviews. I don't get where all the excellent reviews are coming from since it appeared to just be a standard bar to me, I had a pizza which was doughy and bland.

Quick lunch at gaslamp district

By BPenuliar2015 |

Arrived at gaslamp area at around 12:30 pm and was getting a little hungry. I decided to have lunch at gaslamp tavern . Sat at the bar and ordered the pork belly tacos. Those were great tacos. I was still full around dinner time. Bartender was nice and service was quick . They have two floors - I dined at the street level. Will probably come back to have drinks with friends. Can imagine it's crowded on Friday nights.

Best chicken sandwich and great local beers.

By Candy A |

This pub was literally right across the street from our hotel. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed with the TVs showcasing sports. The staff was friendly and service was great. I thought the food was delicious and a good deal.

Good sports bar in the Gaslamp district.

By bandie101 |

We stopped in after walking around the district for a cold drink. The server was very friendly and helpful. They have several specials everyday. Free WiFi and lots of TVs was our entertainment. The server was attentive but not overbearing. The “filthy” fries were very delicious.

My favorite Hangout Spot in SD.

By andreask64 |

Been in SD 2 times now and will be again in 2015.When i walked into Tavern for the first time in July 2013,it almost instantly became my favorite place to Hangout after a long day. The friendly staff makes you just feel like a Local the moment you walk in.They even remembered me and my name in the year that passed between my first two stays in SD.I am from Austria but Gaslamp Tavern is allready my home away from home, when i am in San Diego.Besides good food and cold local craft beer, what else could you want more on your vacation.Cant wait to be back.

Love this bar!

By Linz-2k |

They have a wrap around island bar with seating inside and outside, right on the corner of the block. Very nice for enjoying the evening breeze. Lots of TV's to watch whatever you want, and lost of activity to keep things interesting.

Pleasantly surprised..

By RowdyzGrl |

First time in the Gas Lamp and were told to try a few places. We stumbled across the GasLamp Tavern. Their staff was very inviting and the food was delicious! Highly recommend their Dirty Fries! They also have plenty of TVs to fill your sports need..

The BEST Tater Tots ever!

By Cheryl S |

The service is great, the beers are well priced and the tater tots are the best tater tots I've ever eaten anywhere!!! This place is located on a corner and is open to the hustle of the downtown street. There are TV's to watch your favorite game, music when nothing special is on and the breeze of fresh air while hanging out with friends. This became "our place" while visiting San Diego. We absolutely love everything about it!

Football food drinks

By Doug B |

Wanted to watch the Arsenal v Tottenham game bar tender was so helpful and couldn't do enough for me beer was great and food was quick and tasty he also had great knowledge of what to do in San Diego...... . thanks

Great San Diego tavern

By Colonel Steve |

Wandering the streets of San Diego seeking a place to sit, some food and something to drink, I was very pleased that I stopped at the Gaslamp Tavern. Ordered the Chicken Tacos and a Firestone Walker beer and was pleasantly pleased with both selections. Service was friendly and efficient - two of my favorite things. Miguel was my server and he was helpful with my choices and very nice! Loved the open windows giving the Tavern an outside feel. Looking for a relaxed place for food ... try the Gaslamp Tavern!!

Our local

By JohanLeiden_Holland |

It became our local while my mates and I were in San Diego, which says it all. Good range of beers, decent food, and pleasant service.

Quick, easy, and good!

By dnreed |

We always stop in here at least several times while staying in the gas lamp district of San Diego. Th e outdoor seating is nice, the staff is friendly, the beer is cold and what more could you ask for. It's fun to sit, sip a cold one and watch sports on tv or peds walking by. Great fish tacos, by the way.

Great drinks & atmosphere!

By LadyJennyLo |

Bartenders were so friendly and made great drinks! Seating is cool because you can sit facing outside at the bar, where they keep the windows wide open. A very chill place to grab drinks and hang out.

Good place to watch a game and get some Happy Hour eats (and drinks)

By ConcoursRider |

Happy Hour deals are everywhere in the Gaslamp Quarter, and the Tavern is no exception. Take advantage of decen't-sized samplers along with your favorite beverage (although your FB might not be a Happy Hour deal). Friendly, but busy bartenders pour respectable drinks to your liking, and you won't be staring at an empty glass too long before they offer you a refill.

Favorite Spot to Hangout

By travelingchik22 |

With so many bars in the Gaslamp, its so hard to pick one. Its funny, we picked this one by doing eeny meeny miny moe lol They have a great selection on their menu and their local beers were really good! Tons of flat screens to view the game. Waiters were great, knew the menus and had great opinions on what we should eat and drink. I actually went right before they closed down for their remodel (mid august) and was able to meet the owner, who is pretty awesome! Cant wait to come back and see the changes they have made! Definitely, my favorite bar in the Gaslamp!

Really Really enjoyed our lunch

By Chowa-Rides-Again |

We really enjoyed our lunch at Gaslamp fish house on 4th and Broadway. The location was great right on our way back from Balboa and on the bus route to the train station. The servers were great and the food even better. We'd recommend the fish and chips and the Crab roll. The Shrimp taco was good slightly spicy with the chipotle sauce. Only downside was not much selection of beers on tap. We'd definitely come back here for a casual dinner without a big price

Great Pub

By krysta c |

Friendly server, great lunch menu and prices!! Food was quick and drinks were cold. Great sports atmosphere - 2 sided bar facing the inside of the bar and outside to the patio. We almost went twice in one day!

Serendipity

By Jennifer S |

Pure serendipity that we stumbled upon the Gaslamp Tavern when exploring the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego. The atmosphere is your basic bar with LOTS of sports on various TVs. The food (we both had cheeseburgers) was outstanding. The bartender, Marshall, is friendly and makes you feel like family. I highly recommend this establishment.

My favorite in Gaslamp

By Mike S |

Popular, friendly staff and I always have a great time here. You can either sit inside or outside at the same bar as well as at a table. Often there is some great live music, not too loud but a cross between background and easy listening.

Good value, friendly service

By Lauren V |

Really like their outdoor seating. Good value, got a TON of fish n chips (which were so tasty!) Fresh, inexpensive bar food.

Great Ambiance

By JennLou |

The food is very good and you can watch the traffic go by from your chair. The cocktails and drinks are different, but very good. Very original.

Excellent!!

By CaitlinCox |

I highly recommend this restaurant. With many choices along 5th Ave, you will not be disappointed if you choose Gaslamp tavern. The buttermilk fried chicken sandwich is amazing and HUGE. If you are hungry, this is the sandwich for you. I would go back any time.

Typical Gaslamp Quarter Tavern

By Dennis L |

A typical local tavern. Good selection of beers. Very short bar menu, but includes good burgers. Open corner location allows you to feel inside-outside wherever you sit.

A fine bar

By MarekLontour |

We were staying at red Gaslamp Plaza Suites and this bar is opposite so is perfectly located. After a long day visiting several tourist sites it was time for a few cold ones and this bar delivered. Great choice of beers etc etc , we opted for the Voodoo ranger on draft and it was superb. After a few we ordered chicken tenders and dirty fries , both good sized portions and delicious so full credit to the kitchen 👏👏 So a nice way to spend a couple of hours and no hesitation in recommending the Gaslamp Tavern

It was a Friday night

By Kevin L |

Great security staff and a great glass washing guy (who was not allowed to serve drinks) The bar staff seemed to miss me as I sat at the bar for what seemed an age, they were busy chatting and after about 5 minutes of not serving anyone the glass washer ushered one towards me. The atmosphere was great great sports on the big screen, I just felt the bar staff need to step it up!!

Just lookin' for a good burger!

By Gary S |

After a long day site seeing, we didn't want anything too complicated. Decided to try the Gaslamp Tavern for burgers, and it was only a half block from where we were staying. Went during happy hour, and chose burgers in lieu of HH foodstuffs. Nice thick, big, juicy burger in great bun plus sauted onions and cheddar cheese, plus tater tots on the side. My wife had the classic burger with just lettuce and tomato garnish. Same nice, big, juicy burger. This place did not disappoint!

Good Happy Hour

By luv2travel076 |

We ate here twice while staying in the gaslamp quarter. They have good happy hour prices on food and libations. Their French fries are great. Service is quick and friendly.

Great Location

By Paul S |

Great location in the Gaslamp. Has an outside bar so you can feel the gaslamp in all its glory. Very nice selection of beers on tap.

Best burger in SD

By Jerry D |

Patrick was our bartender/server and was super friendly and attentive. He recommended the burgers and he did not steer us wrong. Quality burger that comes with tots or fries or even a salad. Clean restrooms for the Gaslamp area. Decent prices for the area. The beer is cold too.

Solid bar and food

By William C |

Fun place to watch World Series. Great bartender (Shannon) who managed a ton of patrons at once. Typical pub food, but good quality. Would not go unless to watch a game....

Neighborhood watering hole!

By ChinaLake1 |

Laid back joint with lots of TVs and a Midwest twist: owner seems to be a Cornhusker. Really good Tavern Wings and decent Fish Tacos. Good service-- a great place to unwind after a 3.5 hour drive. Will definitely be back!

Great spot for a beer to watch the passers by and sports

By TrevorDoornbos |

Our sales team dropped in for a few beers before dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the vibe and the great service. A few plates of soft Tacos and buffalo wings took the main hunger pangs away while we enjoyed the ambience.

Best Bloody Mary's in town!

By Douglas A |

Every time I was in San Diego and as far back as Super Bowl XXII I had admired the red trolley going by. Now I was in San Diego for business and staying with my daughter for a month. Since we had a school holiday and the girls -- 3 & 6 -- had never been on the trolley, I suggested we go downtown for lunch. We caught the trolley at the Spring Street station and enjoyed the ride into town. We got off in the heart of the restaurant district -- Fifth St. -- and started walking. We found the Gaslamp Tavern and it looked inviting. The girls were ready for a restroom and we were thirsty, so we ordered a Bloody Mary. Then my daughter checked Trip Advisor on her mobile phone and saw that the reviews were good. So we started joking with Allison, our server, and she confirmed that they get excellent ratings from their customers. Since we had the little ones in tow she suggested quesadillas for them (close enough to a grilled cheese sandwich!), and she recommended the fish tacos to my daughter. Apparently the Gaslamp is famous for their fish tacos but since I've never reconciled myself to fish being in a taco shell, I settled for the Tavern Steak and Cheese sandwich, consisting of shaved ribeye steak, grilled onions, bell peppers and melted jack cheese on an Italian roll. I have to have this again! Allison was very engaged (okay, there was only one other patron in the place and he was at the bar) and a stellar waitress. It looks like this place could be fun after dark, too, given its street side bar seating, wooden floors and tiled bathrooms. Definitely worth a stop!

Good food, good location, great seat

By Brookelyn3 |

We sat at the outside bar and were served promptly and attentively -- I swear, I've never had a bad waitress in San Diego, but the waitress here was lovely. The food was surprisingly good and reasonably priced, and the beer selection was decent. Grab a stool on the outside bar and watch the scenery pass by when it's warmer.

Great spot and great service

By Gus0366 |

I went there one night whilst away for business. Got lucky as it was the final game of the NBA finals. Great atmosphere and great service. Staff were really engaging and great fun. Food was good but not great - what I expected in that setting. Will go again next time.

Great Cobb Salad

By BethM920 |

Ate here twice in the week we spent in the Gaslamp. Fun atmosphere. Outdoor seating. Great food and drinks. Friendly waitstaff

French Fries

By SreyaNelle |

My friend and I stopped here for a beer and ordered their fries as a late night snack. Be warned, the portion was huge! Food was good as well as the service.

Awesome place

By Deanna A |

Great place to hang out with friends and have a few brews! The food was great and location perfect for a night full of good times.

Great find for lunch

By jennilynn42 |

Great location, great staff, great food and drinks! Stopped for lunch on a Friday, was so good we came back for lunch on Saturday.Marshal treated us like friends on our first visit. If I'm ever back in San Diego I will make a point to stop in for lunch. Highly recommend the Philly with Wiz!

Don't let the looks fool you

By Beachbenz63 |

Looks like a dive bar from the outside, but food, drinks and service were very good. Newly renovated restrooms and overall cleanliness a plus

Great value lunch

By MartinJ17 |

We came across the Gaslamp Tavern by accident whilst visiting San Diego recently. The bar was just opening and they had a special offer of a sandwich and soup for $6. All four of us chose this option and the waitress, Dalia, was very helpful and explained where we were in relation to some of the tourist spots. The food was really nice and well presented I could imagine that this place would be rocking in the evenings as it is one of many bars along this stretch and there are loads of TV screens showing the various sports that are on offer.

Great happy hour and service - Cubs bar

By Michael F |

The service here was second to none. The happy hour prices were great as well. I recommend the honey spice fried chicken and dirty fries. Lots of TVs and great atmosphere to watch a game.

Eh. Stayed for one and left

By Aaron T |

Went to the bar to watch the baseball playoff game. Had to make our way through the ten homeless people watching the nfl games to get into the bar. Staff was less than helpful. Of all the bars in gas lamp I would certainly pick others.

Massive lunch

By Kaitlyn C |

We ate here for lunch of day 1 of our trip. Had the veggie burger and the chicken sandwich. Both were fantastic and massive portions. Had some interesting cocktails. I tried a mule and had some ginger beer in it - something different. Service was very friendly. Lots of tv's with college football on. Overall, nice experience and great meal.

Above average service

By Pyke88 |

After a late evening arrival to San Diego, we stopped at the Tavern around 10 o clock needing sustenance. The late menu is small, but delicious. The orange sesame wings are sweet meaty morsels and the fish tacos typical San Diego fare. Their homemade habanero hot sauce is hot, and I mean really hot, but a great accompaniment. It was a Tuesday night, so Fat Tire draft was ice cold and a measly $4. The joint had only a couple other patrons, and the server took care of our every need. He took time to chat and was incredibly genuine, not tourist weary as some tend to get. You won't go wrong at the Gaslamp Tavern.

Superb people watching. Great food

By arhie |

Service is a little slow, and value is better (obvi) during happy hour. Outstanding comfort/pub food with big portions on the north end of the gaslamp district. They keep the menu short enough that everything on it is delicious.

Closing for renovations

By cebgel |

This is a cute sports pub with the typical pub food. It is closing for renovations until 2015. Can't wait to see what they do with the place. We got pizza and wings. Good for pub food. Service was bustling. We will be back in 2015.

Another great stop at Gaslamp Tavern

By Stacey H |

We try to stop by the Gaslamp Tavern whenever we are in San Diego. And as always we are never disappointed, great crew great eats cold beer, how can you go wrong

Perfectly situated to watch the world on TV and on the street

By Scott S |

Stopped in with some buddies on Saturday late morning for some cocktails. Loved the open air feel to it and being able to see everything going on around the intersection. Also loved seeing every sport possible on the flat screens. They serve a good mimosa/manmosa/bloody mary and a reasonable beer selection. Didn't get a chance to try the food but would come back anytime.

Love that's it's open to the strip!

By Brandon E |

We had a great time here...we ended up here 3 times in 1 weekend. Very chill place that has outdoor seating and open seating at the bar to view the outside as well. Several TVs, good prices, great fish tacos. I'm sure this will be a staple of future SD trips.

A nice place to sit outside and have a beer

By LMK101 |

We stopped in to have a beer. We sat at the bar which is half outside and inside. We sat out side and watched the goings-on with people inside and outside. Nice beers to choose from. Good vibe

Below average for 5th ave.

By Kendu24 |

Came here for Quad Alehouse which we found out that day was permanently closed. Stayed at the tavern for happy hour. The pretzel was good however the Mac and cheese was very plain. Not a great beer selection. Bartenders were friendly but not attentive. Open window seating from the street but they allow smoking and the breeze was blowing it inside. Sticky bar tops as well. Great corner spot but hopefully things improve.

Saturday College Football

By DF7132011 |

We accidentally found GasLamp Tavern and we were lucky enough to find 4 awesome seats at the bar to watch college football on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. We were super hungry and ready for football. We order Tavern Burgers and Fries!! Our bartender was horrible!!! She barely acknowledged us. Never bothered to ask if we wanted another drink. We found ourselves flagging her down and she was right in front of our face. We were most amused watching the clueless staff serve food to all the wrong people. We got someone's else's order and it sat in front of us for at least 5 minutes and they picked it up and served it to the people down the bar!! So awful!!! Finally, we got our food. The burger literally had NO TASTE whatsoever. It tasted like nothing!!!! I was completely staving and didn't even eat the burger. I ate the fries and they were fine. NOTE TO THE OWNERS......Fire all your lame staff or actually train them to specialize in customer service and accurate orders. They have no clue. They could careless about their jobs and they walk around not even noticing customers with empty glasses!!! I think you really need a day to work with the employees and properly train your staff!! Also, fire the chef and find someone that cooks with flavor!!! The best thing about this place is the TV screens!!!

Good Bar with food

By smiller560 |

Stopped in early for some drinks and food. Service was good and bar set up was good. The food was very good. Fresh house breaded chicken tenders. That was a surprise and they were good. The wings were good as well. Yes, nice spot and hope to return.

Welcoming to travellers locals place

By AttorneyJohn7 |

In town for my wife's little brother's wedding, my wife was telling me about San Diego's so-called Gas Lamp District. So, fooling around n my phone during some wedding-prep down-time, I looked up San Diego history, read about that, read about the Gas Lamp district's bar and restaurant scene and the nightlife there, like that. I stumbled across a yelp top 10 listing, and right there ont hat list was a place called the Gas Lamp Tavern. So I says to my self, "Self, what better place to go and explore the gas lamp district with and in, than such Gas Lamp Tavern." A wee bit of persuasion and my wife agrees to go. I think being drug into the wedding preparations and picture taking had her wishing for an adult libation. Less than a ~$10 Uber ride later from our hotel, we arrived on the street along which the GLT sits in business. One thing was interesting, and it may be a San Diego thing, the doors and windows to the bar were wide open, so the air was moving through the building. The GLT isn't in a water front area, it's in a commercial, built-up big building area, sot his is out of the norm for us as we're from Houston, but maybe it is The Thing in San Diego, I don't know. It was neat, though. Entering, a bartender who was busily cleaning behind the bar waved at us and a passing server said we could sit wherever we like, someone would find us right away and get our order. We did exactly that, being handed the happy hour, breakfast and lunch menus, yes menus, by another server as we rounded the end of the bar. There is a bar, and then the GLT has the bar behind the bar sort of construction, instead of a lot of 4-top and 2-top tables. I guess you could get 40 people if you packed each side of the bar. Sitting down, the server who arrived to talk to us introduced us tot he guy (local college grad student) sitting nearby, who also greeted us and we struck up a bit of conversation, the four of us, as my wife and I decided on lunch item's starters and the first round of drinks. Very friendly server, very friendly guy just hanging out watching football, people coming in and being greeted in like manner as we had been during our entire stay. Our food arrived, and was very good. I had a spicy kick thing going, so I got some chicken with hot dipping sauce, and it was very well made and tasted delicious. My wife had some fish tacos I think, and she literally gave me a thumbs-up instead of answering out loud, so I think they were good. I tried some local brewing companies', yes plural, beers while we hung out there until we got our Uber back tot he hotel about 4 hours after arriving. Mission accomplished. If/when we get back to San Diego, we'll definitely hit this place up again.

Absolutely no service

By scott v |

Sat afternoon. Packed house, NFL playoffs. 2 employees. A bartender and a waiter. Ridiculous. Sat at bar table on floor.. couple sitting next to us said service sucks. This entire bar top, not bar, but bar top on floor has been waiting for food, drinks, to pay bill. But...saw 4 stars so decided to give them a try. Waited 10 mins, no one greeted or even showed up. Finally butted in on bar stool patrons asking bartender if anyone is working floor. Sai1d I'll send them right over, waited 5 more minutes still no one. . Will never be back had to give one star. Would have given half if I could.

NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY!!

By Padiboys3 |

We were looking for a place to see ufc fights. Out concierge called for us and have us this location. We went by and a server said yes for terms. To be there early for a table. We get there and the manager asks us to leave because kids were not allowed. Went to hooters and enjoyed the fight. Who new a bar with servers in skimpy outfits would accept kids and not this place. Go figure

"Lack of customer service"

By Amjr2009 |

We got there for a UFC fight early at night. We were able to grab a table just to realize that there would be no server to come to our table and get our orders. Had to approach the bar every time we wanted a drink. We ordered food at the bar and the food came out wrong. Bartender did not get my order correct and had to wait another 20 - 30 minutes for my plate to get there. At that point the bar was packed and getting a drink at the bar was close to impossible. Will definitely not come back to this place. Food is ok, nothing great to show. Big servings though.....

Great afternoon eating place

By Jennifer T |

Had a great lunch here. My friend and I both got house salads and split one of their pizzas. We got the one with olives, mushrooms, sausage and pepperoni. It was excellent! Great, attentive but not annoying service. Good prices as well. Only drawback - the pushy homeless guys. We were sitting on the patio, enjoying a beautiful late December afternoon, and I had half a piece of pizza on my plate. I had taken a small break from putting the food in my face, and a homeless guy walking past stopped and asked if he could have the rest of my pizza if I wasn't going to eat it. I was so shocked that he would ask someone sitting in a restaurant that I just gave it to him. He said "I'll only take a bite." EW! Like I would eat the rest of it. So he ate the whole thing, of course. That was the only blemish on our trip to this little tavern. Otherwise an excellent experience.

Decent food, friendly staff, not-too-bad prices

By hockeymom59 |

Well, you gotta go to San Diego knowing that virtually everything is high-priced. With that in mind, The Gaslamp Tavern was one of the few moderately-priced choices in the Gaslamp Qtr. We had drinks & snacks: potato skins, fish tacos, & a quesadilla. All the food was good but not outstanding. It was fresh & hot & came out in a timely manner. The waitress was friendly & kept our glasses filled on a really warm day. The menu boasts at the top; "Not your average pub grub". Actually, it is. But if you don't want to blow $80 on dinner for two, go here. I'd definitely go back.

Convenient to Hotels!

By Nancy S |

Visited around 7:30 PM in the evening on a mid-week night. Not too many people dining. The Fried chicken was DELICIOUS. Bartender went through the motions only. Not a welcoming type.

Great service and food

By LKar2323 |

Our server was brand new but she ws really good and sweet. Very attentive and seemed to know what she was doing. The food was really good and they have pretty good priced drinks and I would definetly come back. It is not really a family place and is very loud but it is a bar so it is to be expected. Lots of big TV's great for watching a game.

Typical Sports Bar

I really wish I could give out ½ stars...so I could rate this stop with "2½" stars. We stopped here at about 4pm on a Saturday, and the place was not super busy. We easily found seats at the bar. The Atmosphere is nice, as i the tavern has both indoor and outdoor (covered) bar seating, as well as indoor tables. There were two bartenders on, and it still took about 5-10 minutes before we were acknowledged by Tiffany, and another few before she delivered our beer. We asked for menus, made our decision, and had to flag down the other bartender to place our food order, because Tiffany was busy doing shots. We decided on grilled chicken strips, with BBQ sauce. The male bartender made it a point to double check the type of sauce, and ask if wanted ranch or bleu dipping sauce on the side. We did not. Our food arrived about 15-20 minutes later. Unfortunately, it was not at all what we ordered. We were presented with buffalo chicken strips (though they were grilled) and ranch dipping sauce. No one ever bothered to check to see if everything was ok, and we really did not want to wait longer, so we ate it. It was definitely average bar food, as others have mentioned. I also do not understand the 4 & 5 star ratings. Tiffany did eventually stop by to see if we wanted another, and we told her no, that would be all. She then wandered off and started to talking to a gentleman who was standing outside the bar, on the street. After waiting about 10 more minutes (she must have been having a great conversation!) we finally got the attention of the other bartender, got our check, and were able to leave. I would really hate to see what service would be like on a busy game day...

Good for Happy Hour

Went their for drinks, wings were good, like a sports bar, Great meeting place for business people...walking distance to most hotels.

Great food, amazingly slow service.

The brisket sliders were awesome as was the vegetarian burger. The house fries are some of the best we've ever had. Service was truly pathetically slow. When we were served the server was friendly. From the time we ordered it took almost 18 minutes to get out food, all of which was delivered on a trolley with 3 other tables' food. Just seemed a bit off. Also, cigarette smoke is allowed on the patio and with open windows that means cigarette smoke inside. Bad move. All in all a good dinner with a few misses.

They ruined this place...

A couple of years ago this was my favorite local bar. Great location, ambiance and the food was incredible. I recently went back after the refurb and was completely disappointed. They're trying way too hard to have an interesting menu. Such a waste when they did the basics (wings, pizza, chicken tenders) so well. I found the wings and fries to be inedible. Literally processed, low quality and disgusting.

Great Sports Bar

Open air restaurant in the heart of the city. This was a great location just a couple of blocks stroll from our hotel. They have an abundance of televisions throughout the restaurant. The food was good, however, the fries were a little SALTY and the wings were just OK. We were there for the infamous helmet swinging Pittsburgh/Cleveland game. Overall, I'd revisit this place again if I were in town.

Great bar, friendly staff.

Went there for afternoon drinks so wasn’t many people. Service was nice. Lots of fruit flies flying around, so didn’t stay long.

Nice bar at busy street

It is hard to decide what bar to choose on this street, it is full of bars and restaurant. I went in to this one, and I found it good! First I has some local beers, which was very good. I also tried the fish tacos, which was very good as well. One bad thing was that they showed the game which Chargers lost.
