We have eaten here many times, and it is consistently great. Tonight I had the walnut shrimp, which is a culinary ecstasy. Others at our table had Happy Family, a stir fry, and garlic catfish. Everyone loved their entree. Genghis Cohen has a full bar. Service is efficient and personable. Here in West Hollywood, it's easy to spot TV or movie personalities. Genghis Cohen has excellent Chinese food, and we are regular customers when we come to LA.

It's always a good sign when the parking lot is full. We had to wait a few minutes for a table to open up, but not a problem as they have a full bar with a TV on playing the latest sports game. The shrimp toast and NY style egg rolls were my favorite appetizer. The BBQ spare ribs were just so so. The simple wonton soup was full of wontons, shrimp and veggies. Overall it was a good meal and service and I'd go back again.

I remember first coming here and discovering the Crackerjack Shrimp. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, Sweet, a little spicy, pungent and coated in a memory of mayonaise. The potstickers are flavorful, and the find tonight was the Shrimp with Leeks. Wow, those were great! Ok. So is it half as good as the top 100 SGV Chinese restaurants? No. If you're willing to drive another 30 minutes east, should you even consider going to Genghis Cohen? No. For American Chinese (don't get the Crispy Duck) it' s good to eat in or take out. For serious foodie Chinese - forget about it!

My favorite chinese restaurant in Los Angeles.

I went because of the unusual name. The Sizzling Rice soup is quite good, and I like that brown rice is an option. Authenticity notwithstanding, it is comfortable and the food was certainly worth the trip. Would go again.

Good menu with a lot of classics, and some unusual twists on old favourites. Service was good, portions were fair, everything was very enjoyable.

My friends Deborah & Ted took me to Genghis Cohen and I loved the atmosphere and the food. The menu was too extensive for a Limey and so I went with Ted Cohen’s recommendations (no relation just a big fan of Genghis Cohen!) and I wasn’t disappointed. Wow - Chinese Tapas - The "New York style" eggrolls were unlike anything I’ve had in the UK, delicious, and BIG. The Potstickers and Wanton Soup were tangy and piquant the Mongolian Beef was tender and full of flavour as were the Crackerjack Shrimp and Ma Bu Beef. The background music was brilliant and we spent the evening playing ‘Name That Tune’ and it was like the Soundtrack to My Life! Great Atmosphere, Great Food, Great Service, And I loved the name and it put me in mind of a favourite Chinese restaurant of mine. If you’re ever in Stockport UK, try 'Elvis's Palace' or if in London, Gracelands Palace – the Wong boys have consuming obsession with the King of Rock 'n' Roll and its led to a nightly cabaret with them mimicking the songs, perfecting the twitching lip, the shaking hip and inky-black quiff - like Genghis Cohen's - it’s a case of Chinese kitsch with cuisine!

We only visited to collect a take away to take back to our hotel. The service was very attentive and helpful, even though we were only take out guests. The lady that served us even bothered to find us some cutlery after we said we were staying in a hotel. The food was really tasty with good sized portions. I can definitely recommend this place and would love to try eating in the actual restaurant next time.

lousy

Hadn't been there in over 30 years. Quite a menu! Five of us ordered a table full of dishes. The duck was outstanding. The paper-wrapped chicken was a treat.

I went to this restaurant as part of a birthday party. It is a nice interior and good tasting food but I feel people need to know a few things before deciding this is where they want to spend their money.... To start things off, someone on the staff made a mistake so we had to wait in the bar for an hour and a half before we could have a table. Once at the table, I (and several in our party) considered the prices to be pretty high, especially considering that rice is not part of your meal and you have to order rice separately (first time this has ever happened to me in an Asian restaurant) Once your food arrives, it is all placed on a very large "lazy susan" in the middle of the table, so what ending up happening was that people on the other side of our very large round table just spun the lazy susan and began helping themselves to my food and the food of the woman who was seated next to me. We just looked at each other as we watched others at the table helping themselves to our very expensive food and as soon as they let go of it, we spun the lazy susan back around to us and tried to salvage enough of our food to make a meal of it. Overall, NOT a good experience!! I can definitely find Chinese food somewhere that has a better system and better organization than this. I won't be going back.

Delicious upon first bite. Does not taste as good coming back up! Went last month with my cousin and he got nauseous and sick; thought it was just a one time occurrence but NOOE! Family and I went back tonight for dinner. 8 of us. It's now 2:15am and we have all been up vomiting and using the toilet ever since the meal. STEER CLEAR OF THIS PLACE!! I am a foodie, love to try new things, but if I'm going to spend money on a meal, I want to be able to hang onto it for a while.

I'd heard about this place, their food was supposed to be INCREDIBLE. I ordered a gourmet delivery service to bring the food to my hotel, I was really looking forward to it. I've just left it and I'm SO disappointed. The BBQ spare ribs were bland and not in any sauce, the Hot and Sour soup wasn't Hot or Sour, it was really lacking in flavour - and the Perfect Harmony was far from perfect. It was bland, VERY bland. So disappointing. Wonder if the food would've been different had I been in the restaurant, though if I had, I would've sent it back or drowned it in Soy Sauce. Really disappointing on so many levels, especially with such an amazing reputation.

We ordered a variety of different dishes all were fine The noodles were good and the duck was also good The atmosphere is a little dull and dark There is car parking next door

Genghis Cohen offers consistently great upscale Chinese food. There are all the mainstays plus a few tricks of their own. They have a good drinks menu and a full bar. I had "Happy Family" and shared appetizers that were all good. They have their own parking, so that is not a problem. We made a reservation on a Saturday night just one half hour ahead and got right in. They have an expert wait staff, with no issues. We recommend Genghis Cohen on trendy Melrose avenue in West Hollywood.

Have been going here since it opened; always a treat. Out of town guests cannot believe how good, especially those from East Coast. Dumplings, too. If you love Chinese Food and are tired of red sugar make-believe duck sauce, that's another great reason to try Genghis Cohen.

We finished our US trip with a visit to Genghis. As always – great food and believe it or not: Amazing Cocktails, especially the Garlic Martini (a must try!) prepared by Susi the bartender!

Very nice dining atmosphere, plenty of choices on this menu even for a vegetarian that of which I am certainly not, from the appetizer pot stickers to the vegetarian egg rolls to the hot wings or butterfly shrimp, they just about cover it all including Duck and Pork Spare Ribs, then for the main entre you will receive a generous portion of rice for your party with an ample serving of seafood, chicken beef or pork again, you name it they have got it covered, affordable dining and a nice well staffed location. For the Los Angeles / Hollywood area this is easy access and ample seating, even a small lounge area that I understand has live entertainment from time to time. The staff will go above and beyond the call to meet your needs. Parking is pretty slim as to be expected so you may need to park on the street and hike a little bit, well worth the drive and give it a try.

the food was great, but once you hear the way the woman manager treats either you or some of the other customers, you won't want to return to this place. my advice is to just stay away from the place.

For a small fee they will bring you a giant bowl of thick, warm, deep fried Chinese noodles with mango dipping sauce. We ordered one to go! I am not big on Egg Roll but theirs was exceptional and very different from what I know. It is double crispy deep fried with a batter crust and inside are the layers you expect from a huge generously filled egg roll. Order plenty of these as they go quickly.Plenty of vegan and other pot stickers . Main courses - The Queens Orange crispy orange chicken.(amongst the top 10 best .) Small portions so order up. Good fried rice and chicken chow mien. Great for large groups. Their cocktails are poured generously so make sure to Lyft it or have a designated driver!!

This is the worst Chinese food we've ever eaten. So bland and tasteless it's more like cardboard than food. The service is sullen at best. And worst of all is they al act like they're the best in town. Blah!

We were turned on to this place by friends and it has lived up to its reputation in every respect. Authentic, Chinese cuisine prayed piping hot and served with a smile. Go somewhere else if you are looking for elegance and movie star searching. Try Genghis Cohen for good food! The dumplings are fantastic and the beef dishes are superb. I love the place and stop in every time I am in Beverly Hills / Hollywood.

BC111 n Cass, Thank's for turning us on to Genghis Cohen. Great Menu with plenty of choices, Crackerjack Shrimp and Ma Bu beef are standout's, Great Service, Good Prices

Not too shabbby. Just went in for a takeout order and the food was decent, a tad on the pricey side. Inside Decor was fantastic when i went in to pick up my food.

Went Friday night for the first time and truly loved it. Between 2 of us we ordered 5 things cause we wanted a real expierence and loved them all. The captan shrimp awesome...cashew chicken really different and good. Tom Tom chicken GREAT. It was all delicious! Will be back!

Located on Fairfax just north of Melrose, Genghis Cohen combines exceptional Chinese food with a full bar and an adjacent music venue. The staff were knowledgeable about the menu selections, willingly added vegetables to the dishes we ordered, and delivered our meals quickly. Best of all, the food was absolutely excellent! There was no pressure to eat and run, so we managed to close the place down on a Friday night. There is parking available next door to the restaurant. Will I return when I am in LA again? Absolutely!

I had the great pleasure of being taken to Genghis Cohen by a dear friend and his wife. It was my first time at this restaurant so I wasn't sure what to expect. We ordered the Green Beans, Noodles, Orange Chicken, a side of brown rice and Hot Green Tea. The combo was flavorful, fresh and very enjoyable. We were lucky to beat the crowd because Fridays are apparently concert night at the stage room across from the dining area. Waiters served us gracefully and checked up on us accordingly. Overall, I'm very pleased with my visit and will attend again very soon.

really bad Chinese food. service was quasi-friendly. just keep your expectations low and you'll be fine.

Terrific food and great service. The restaurant itself is underwhelming but the food is worth it! Great consistent taste and quality. Prices are reasonable based on portion size and wide selection.

Hollywood feel but without the pretentiousness you find in similar spots. This is Chinese food that doesn't make you feel hungry a half hour later. Best mai tais this side of Hawaii. Food comes quickly so you can eat when in a rush or when you'd like to take your time.

Great chinesse. Been there since 1983.

The extensive and sometimes clever menu had all of our favorite Chinese food options and they were delicious with generous portions. The wanton soup was outstanding, and very hearty, full of vegetables as well as the wantons themselves. Their "New York style" eggrolls were delicious, and substantial. Their Mongolian Beef was a special favorite. Both the service and the food were excellent! It is a popular spot - be sure to make reservations - and on some evenings there is live music as well.

We seem to return to this restaurant a lot, especially when the mood hits us for smartly prepared Chinese cuisine. As noted by other reviews the are ample choices of food and drink. The thing we enjoy most about this place is the professional service we always receive. The soups are always served hot but as we like our soup just a notch below boiling we ask for the soup to be served extra hot in temperature. We especially enjoy a large bowl of sizzling rice soup to start our meal. In fact if you're not ravaneous you could easily make a meal of this dish and perhaps a spicy dish of lo mein. A great time to dine there is before 6 PM. Perhaps to early for some but there is generally a substantial wait after 7 PM.

Fun Chinese food!

I'm not even partial to Chinese food, but a friend's husband was playing in their music venue, and it was the singer's birthday, and he had a large table of ten friends etc, and i was invited along. Man! Really good food! Friendly, happy atmosphere, great service, and the food came out quickly and was really good! I was totally surprised, and loved everything I tasted. My scallops were tender and perfectly cooked, and the sauce on the broccoli was exceptional. Just great. I've gone years ago, many times, to hear friends play, and never ate there. I will be back, to eat. Happily!

My family ate here when I was performing in the little theatre adjacent to the restaurant. We ordered wonton soup, sweet and sour chicken, and beef & broccoli. All of the food was very good, though the service was a little on the slow side.

We stopped in for a very late lunch on a Saturday and enjoyed several really great dishes... Very pleasant and helpful service and quality food that left us satisfied and feeling clean and healthy! We'll be back

Love the food. Every time I come to LA this is a stop for dinner. Love my queen chicken and the soup with the rice

This is one of West Hollywood best kept local secret. If you want the best Chinese food in town, mixed with a hip Hollywood crowd, this is your spot. Live music by some of the best musician in town on selected night. Go and see how we play.

Loved the food- there's a lot to choose from and it's all GREAT!!! I would say that the service is sometimes slow when it's packed, but the best part of the whole experience was going to listen to the live music being played in the back room! If you're lucky you might even get to see a Hollywood celebrity!

We've been eating at Genghis Cohen for years, and it never disappoints. The Chinese food here is a cut above, and service is always excellent. We were a party of six. I had Peaceful Harmony, and others had Happy Family and honey walnut shrimp (excellent!). They have a full bar and reasonable prices.

Their specialty is Peking duck which is very good. Empty at lunchtime on Tuesday RESTAURANT: A Food B Value B Ambiance B Location B Staff C Scene CLEAN OR DIRTY: A Utensils B Table A Glassware

Once upon a time, this restaurant was one Chinese restaurant that I really enjoyed. It was a little bit pricey for and old-style Chinese restaurant, but I could walk out the door after eating a wonderful meal, not minding in the least what I had put on plastic. But what once was mighty tasty (altho not necessarily authentic) has fallen. And Oh, how the mighty has fallen! Went there for dinner last night-I never minded pricey, but good,- but pricey and mediocre?? Meh! No make that, Pfeh! And not only that, if you order Mu Shu anything, you have to roll your own! For me, that was a deal breaker. I like to watch my waiter's skill at building and folding those little guys. The mystery was removed, and I had to "roll my own". And then, there were the garlic string beans. They were stringy. And the quality of the chicken seemed inferior to me, also. I took away the left overs and had to toss 'em. So, in my opinion, this restaurant has truly changed, I think. I won't return.

Best Chinese food in LA! This restaurant never fails. The food is awesome, everyone leaves happy and satisfied!

When I first moved to LA from New York, I thought I would never find Chinese food like I had in the Big Apple. But then my husband and I went to Genghis Cohen, and discovered that we could get excellent Chinese food in LA. So we stayed! I've never been disappointed with a dish here. Orange beef, no name duck (!!), spicy and salty tofu, and walnut shrimp are all distinctly excellent. Cold sesame noodles take me right back to Chinatown in lower Manhattan. Oh, and the Pickles and "Cohen" Slaw are good, too! And I love the big, round red booths. I love to dine with friends here, especially if they are from out of town.

Loved the food here. We had the egg rolls and walnut shrimp. The special mixed rice was good, however, the pork pieces were so tiny you can hardly taste them. Will try other dishes next time. Service was good and they have parking.

We were celebrating our anniversary in LA and wanted a recommendation of a place to dine. A classmate from high school lives in Hollywood. When asked about where we should have a romantic delicious dinner he had only one recommendation for us which was Genghis Cohen. Apparently the original owner had a great sense of humor which can be found on the menu. I had the No Name Duck which was great, my husband had a lightly fried beef dish which we both enjoyed. The mini egg rolls I really enjoyed while my husband enjoyed the bigger spicer rolls. This is a neighborhood joint where you don't have to dress up. The ambiance is low light with nice glass art on the walls. This is a place not to miss.

We had dinner here on a weeknight during New Year's week and had a great experience! Our server was pleasant and efficient and the food was delicious! I appreciated the vegan options and no MSG. We took a large take out order back to our kids and they thoroughly enjoyed it as well. We will return next time we are in LA.

There were six of us for dinner so we were able to order a good variety. The Walnut Shrimp was a winner we ordered a second dish it was so good. Every dish was tasty and the service was friendly. It was extremely busy also. This was not the first time we have eaten there & won't be the last

We have been going to Genghis Cohen for years. Our standard meal begins with pork pot stickers - they are the bomb. Then comes the moo shu pork - then usually stir fried green beans and kung pao chicken. All of this is washed down with their delicious Mai Tai cocktail - what these they pack a punch.

Genghis Coen is such good upscale Chinese - the no name duck is delish, really everything we've had had been perfect. It's not heavy but is super satisfying. All of the sauces are made in house, true quality food. Evidently the chefs have been there for ages and it shows in theirs expertise; that said the management is awesome so everything comes out in order and with proper time between courses, the wait staff is pro, and the bartender definitely knows how to make a modern drink (with quality booze) to your liking. It's fun and lively without being loud or chaotic, great date place or night with friends. Bonus is there is a second area for live music, comedy now on Tuesday nights, but it's completely separate - so there is no spillover noise but you can do dinner, drinks and entertainment at "different" places all in one! Go there. Don't forget the duck.

We are a great fan of Genghis Cohen and have eaten here many times. Service was prompt and efficient, without being obtrusive. The food is the thing here, and the variety and tastiness of the Chinese dishes cannot be matched. At our table we had shrimp with walnut, Harmony, tofu with black mushrooms, and egg rolls. This is our favorite Chinese restaurant in LA, and we will keep coming back.

Unassuming Chinese restaurant which once inside is clearly very popular with locals, and understandably. Large menu, even larger portions, all of which tastes great - expect to have endless leftovers (which you can take home).

not NY, but a fun name!

WOW! I didn't expect to have good food but WOW was I surprised how delicious the Chinese food was. We will go again soon.

Okay if you're a transplant from the east to LA you know and I know there's a difference between Chinese food east versus west coast. East is lest sweet less spicy more brown gravies for those raised with it there's no substitute. Well Genghis Cohen comes close to being a east coast Chinese food spot as any we've found so far. The prices are moderate for LA which means anyone not use to paying three times the amount they would in suburban America will be disturbed. However, the dishes are delicious especially the east coast egg rolls are spot on. Parking is easy either in the lot or on the street. They also have live bands in the evening. Wonderful place and great ambience.

Always fine food, in a not unusual setting for a restaurant serving Chinese food. Go for the duck - its always crispy and perfect.

Like it. I love the sole dish. It's good. Everything is good, but that is my favorite.

Found in a small strip mall on Fairfax Ave just North of Melrose Ave. is this gem of a restaurant. The fact that it's been there for a very long time and has a loyal customer base is testimony to its review worthiness. Sometimes the service can be slow but overall our experience there has been great.

The best New York-style egg rolls in town!

Just finished my takeout order of "turkey" wonton soup and "cantonese" style flat rice noodle aka chow fun. Order total was 26 plus which isn't a problem if the portion and quality matched the dollar amount. You're given 4 (YES, FOUR!) tiny wontons which are worse than freezer quality and the flat rice noodle with beef/chicken is just regular mall food cooked by mexicans! Just another front to fool white folks who don't know chinese food. I might have given this review 2 stars if the portion was generous. My chow fun was about the size of a 5 dollar tv dinner from Ralph's but didn't taste as good. I'm lighter in the wallet and still empty in the stomach. This place is even worse that Kung Pao Bistro down the street at Santa Monica Blvd. The only decent chinese restaurant in West Hollywood is Asakuma but unfortunately the head chef left a while back. If ANYONE knows a great chinese restaurant in WeHo, please be kind enough to post! And I don't mean PF Changs for god sakes. It's not authentic if it's cooked by mexicans who used to mop floors in the food court at the local mall. Genghis Cohen is way overpriced and the portion/quality is just too upsetting to mention. Best way I can compare this restaurant is to a scam talent agency. They take your money and you're given squat! Avoid!!!

I had dinner here with my daughter Who always picks good places. This Chinese restaurant has all booths, we said in a very large semi circular booth which was very pleasant. We had a simple meal egg rolls which are quite large and delicious. Followed by tofu with mixed vegetables in brown sauce. All nicely prepared, very good service, I definitely recommend this place.

This is a very good Chinese restaurant with a live music bar attached in West Hollywood. We were taken there by our local hosts and were very impressed both by the range and quality of the food on offer. What you choose will be down to your personal tastes (I had the lemon chicken) but the portions are good (this is America so of course they are) and the prices not at all unreasonable. Great for visitors to the city and residents alike it seems. You've got to love the name too.

Visited here for a last minute meal and the food was delicious. We had the beef with broccoli and egg fried rice, yum! Delicious however the toilets were outside in the parking lot which felt a little strange/ maybe unsafe?

If you want true NY style Chinese food, with the BEST egg rolls in the city, this the place! It's busy evenings these days, so make a reservation. ENJOY!

I have been eating here since 2006, and I have never been disappointed. I brought a friend of mine with me today, May 18, 2013 who was Leary of Chinese food in Hollywood, and she was delighted and complimented the great food! I had the Perfect Harmony and she had the Cashew Chicken with Hot Green Tea. I would recommend Genghis Cohen to everyone!

tis ok. usually go to see friends play music. food pretty good.

Pleasant atmosphere with comfortable booths and not too much noise. Four of us started with Cohen Slaw and Pickles which were excellent as were the two orders of veggie egg rolls. We had a Queen Chicken (not great), Sauteed Garlic Shrimp (fair), green beans (good), 1 white rice, one veggie Lo Mein (poor), In addition we had a total of three alcoholic beverages. Cost $105.12 for the four of us plus tip. Service was good. Taste is a subjective matter.....the place was full so obviously the reviews by others would probably be better. I think if we had selected different entrees our review might have been different. Have been here a few times in the past and always enjoyed as we did tonight.....but for my taste buds a few of the items missed.

We have been searching for our fall back/go to Chinese joint! We've found it. The food is delicious, served piping hot and the serving sizes are significant. The dumplings are "ahhhh-mazing" as are the egg roles. The Singapore noodle dish is huge and tasty as is the Kung Pao Chicken. The only reason it didn't get a 5 was that service was a bit slow. We had to ask several times to refill our water and drinks took a long time to arrive. Other than that - excellent!

My partner and I went for dinner here on Christmas eve as it was one of the only places we could find open. We were not disappointed - the food was tasty (we ordered a selection of appetisers) and there was a good atmosphere with lots of people coming in after us looking for tables. There was live music advertised but we didn't see any whilst we were there.

only place in LA with NYC style egg rolls--for reals!!

My in-laws took us to Genghis Cohen for dinner. I had to read up on it later as I was confused about the east coast/west coast differences in the food (it was noticeable - I just didn't know why at the time). The food was good, the service was good, but it was a little pricey. My in-laws like it because they split everything anyway.

This was a find....sits in a little strip mall north of Melrose Ave on the east side of Fairfax Ave. food is superb....fresh New York-style Sichuan. Susie is the bartenders and has consistently made the BEST Mai-tai I have ever had except for those made at the Mauna Lani Hotel Ocean Bar & Grill on the Big Island! Yes, they are THAT good! Been eating there for over 20 years. Shocked to see they are not on Trip Advisor's radar! Fresh food, no heavy sauces. Sweet & sour dishes are served with a light sauce, but delicious! Not that heavy syrupy red sauce That are heaped on elsewhere! Perhaps the only competition is in the east L.A. Alhambra area, where Chinese cooking is specialized and restaurants are in abundance, but you do NOT need to go to Mr. Chow's in Beverly Hill & drop a small fortune. GENGHIS is totally reasonable. The ambience is a little more upscale and tamped down than many neon lit diner-type places. Lovely atmosphere for romance or a celebration of any kind. NOT noisy with subtle lighting and comfortable booths. This is also a hot spot for indie music fans. There is a music room with all seating facing a small stage that is to your right when you enter, but is sound proofed so doesn't interfere with the dining room (to your left as you enter). Susie's small bar sits in between. There is no valet, but a fairly decent parking lot adjacent to the strip mall, and plenty of free street parking as well. I recommend reservations from 6pm on. It gets very busy later on with the music room folks dining either before or after the show. Really...the BEST Chinese in L.A. Or the valley!

Food is delicious and customer service awesome. Nothing so special beef is super yummy. It's crispy and very flavorful.

We have been trying to find a local spot for Chinese food and finally discovered a great restaurant. Nice atmosphere, great drinks, and every dish was really tasty. We have eaten there 3 times now and it is consistently good.

It was a fun place to eat with a huge selection of delectable foodstuffs. Rather pricey, but I do not mind if quality and quantity supports the price, which it did. Service was a bit slow, but it was a fairly large group (nine of us) so somewhat understandable. Parking was a bit of a problem, but we made it work

Asian-fusion - it is the BEST! And the music afterwards is fantastic too!

What a delicious menu at Genghis Cohen -- all your favorite Asian dishes done deliciously, prepared quickly, with great service, in a warm environment.

I love this place. My colleagues & I usually go for lunch to this place for casual meetings. It has great food & very nice ambiance. It's little expensive but really worth it. I highly recommend it.

So on our last night in LA, we headed over to Genghis Cohen as it was literally down the road from our hostel. We had read some great reviews online so we made our way there to try it out for ourselves. We went at around 5pm, so it wasn't excessively busy yet, and we were seated immediately by the very polite waitress. The 3 of us were seated in a booth, and our drinks orders were taken straight away which was great. The menu in there is huge, so you might need 5 minutes to decide on what food you want to have. But its a really nice choice to be honest. We ordered our meals, and had them in under 10 minutes, all the food was hot, the portions were huge and the service was superb. The restaurant itself was clean, very well maintained and seemed to be very welcoming overall. Its the first Chinese we had eaten in 2 months in the USA, as we had been eating Thai food mainly, but this was a lovely change food wise and I highly recommend eating here if you are in the area.

We visited this place on the urging of a friend. It's located in Fairfax district which is a heavily Jewish centric area (hence the name). Fantastic food. Nice little bar area & a tiny music venue also attached. Traditional Chinese food with a quirky edge.

My favorite Chinese place in US. Love the food, the atmosphere, the service. I always get the queen chicken & the eggdrop sour with rice

We went to Genghis Cohen for dinner on Xmas in LA. It was crowded. The service was attentive. The drinks were well done. The food was quite good. We had a mix of vegans and meat-eaters and everyone ate well. Highlights were the stir-fried eggplant and the ginger tofu. The vegetable bowl was bland. The steamed vegetable dumplings were good. Overall, there were plenty of vegan options.

Boy has this place gone downhill since my last visit in the early 90s. Slightly dingy dining room, dirty bathroom -- makes me suspect what's going on in the kitchen. Food felt slapped together and over-flavored.

Every thing was really good! Fried pork dumplings, house fried tofu were outstanding. Friendly staff , pretty decor and good food, who needs more?

We went around 4 pm and was seated immediately. We ordered Mongolian beef (very bland), schezwan (spelling?) eggplant (very good) and shrimp lo mein (bland). It didn't taste like it was cooked in a wok. If I go back, I would not order Mongolian beef or the lo mein. Maybe the fried rice would be better. Also, steamed rice does not come with the entre, You have to pay extra for rice. Prices are a bit more than other Chinese restaurants but not too much. Service was good. Parking in the adjacent lot is easy and convenient.

After a long day of visiting relatives we stopped for dinner before heading to the airport. The Hot & Sour soup was okay, not the best I've had, but the flavors were good. We also ordered the half Crispy Duck, which was completely fabulous. Rounded out our dinner with Mooshu Chicken and Shrimp Chow Fun. Well worth the cost.

Their delivery is by a service called Gourmet Courier. The food is okay and prices are good. Sometimes they have a good live band and sometimes...not so great. It's a separate room and separate event, but you can eat first and go to the show afterwards. It could maybe be a bit cleaner. Not great, not bad. I think it's good for groups because they do have a round table that allows you to have conversation with everyone.

We had a large (41) group of friends celebrate my 65 th birthday. The restaurant had four circular tables that sat everyone very comfortabley. Seating was semi-private. Service was excellent! Genghis Cohen is my wife and my favorite Chinese restaurant. It did not disappoint in any department. From their absolutely delicious egg rolls to my favorite, stir fried crispy noodles. The price including lots of alcohol came to only $45 per person. The whole evening was fantastic!

Third time over last 60 days I have eaten here when visiting area. Two times take out and once dine in. Never disappoints and consistently quality tasty well presented food. I have now tried 9 different entrees and like them all . I would say the descriptions in menu are very accurate concerning flavors. Inside seating is cozy and relaxing. Love those red lanterns . Service is good. Appears to handle larger groups well too. Parking lot for easy parking makes it an easy stop. My favorite is : Queen Chicken, Cantonese Style Beef Chow Fun. Make sure to try their vegetarian fried rice and Szechuan Green beans too!

first of all this is one of the most overpriced Chinese restaurants anywhere but the food USED to be very good. The lamb dish chewy and grisley, the spare ribs very fatty, the hot sour soup awful. when i complained they did not care. sorry but just up the street is Kung Pao Bistro- go there- better food and leave with a LOT MORE $$$ in your pocket.

why they still employ that run woman who manages at night, who does not have a clue about how to treat customers is beyond me. If you read thru the reviews, you will see multiple mentions of her. def stay away from this place.
not bad!
Tried them for takeout, pretty good. Pot stickers, chow mein... no complaints! No reservations in recommending.
