Best Philly Cheesesteak

By Mols |

Was worth the stop! We were travelling from NYC to DC and stopped here for lunch! It did not disappoint and really hit the spot!

Open 24 hours!

By boymomdfw |

This place and Pats are both soooo busy! It's crazy when you get there at 2am and there are still tons of people coming and going. Love it!

No taste sandwich

By karinr9933 |

Had to have a Philly Cheesesteak while we were in Philly. Pat’s King of Steaks across the street had a line that was too long so we tried this place instead. The sandwich had almost no taste. Thumbs down. Very disappointing.

Very Good

By Winslow P |

Make sure you get your sandwich with the cheese whiz it makes a world of a difference. They use better quality products than the competetor across the street. Even though i liked the other sandwich because they load more steak, this place is still amazing. I have been lied to my whole life when stores in other cities said they sold cheese steaks. These are the real deal.

Solid Cheesesteak, but either walk or bicycle to the restaurant.

By Nayah2o0 |

Good Cheesesteak, price is good. Parking is horrible and the cash only is strange. I can see why people go next door to Pat’s instead of being gouged by the local ATM to get cash. Probably won’t visit again, but glad i did.

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT

By David d |

We tried a cheese steak at the Philadelphia airport. Major disappointment. The meat was dry and the bun tasted moldy. We wound up throwing the steaks away and went elsewhere.

Great atmosphere and good food in one of South Philly's neighborhoods

By MidwestKathM |

Our first time back to Philadelphia in 30 years! With limited time, we made Geno's our first stop to have an authentic Philly Cheesesteak. Early Sunday afternoon on a beautiful sunny day, we were able to score a parking spot on the street on the other side of Capitolo Park. We each ordered the standard cheesesteak with provolone cheese ($12). It must be noted that you order sandwiches at one window and fries and drinks at a second window, paying the tab at each window. There are about a dozen small picnic tables under the awnings. Across the street a DJ blasted out music that all ages might enjoy. And if you prefer a beer or other alcoholic beverage, you can bring in your Geno's food to the bar across the street. We ended up eating our meal outside Capitolo Park where there are a few benches and other seating options along the fence. It was a fun atmosphere filled with families and friends and music and food!!

Over rated

By Gr8estme |

I heard a lot about this place while checking out places to eat in Philadelphia. When we went there it was ok place no place to sit just 5 picnic tables and ppl took food out mainly. When I got my sandwich it was just slices of thin meet dry with fried onions, I asked for pepper one and my husband got the mushrooms topped. I think I had better in regular restaurants in Pennsylvania in general. But I had to give it a try as it’s so famous.

Okay. (Long wait, cash only, no indoor seating)

By Angela F |

It was okay. I thought the steak was dry but bread was soft. The line was long and went into the street, so the wait time was quite a bit. They accept cash only and the lady at the window was rushed. There is no indoor seating. I expected the steak to be tastier. I got the cheesesteak hoagie and thought all Cheesesteaks came with peppers but I was wrong. I don’t think it was worth the wait, $15.00 and the long walk.

Very good

By Timeout2 |

My son and I tried Genos and the competitor across the street. We both liked Genos slightly better. Genos is cleaner and I found the staff nicer. The cheese steak was very good at both, Genos was a little better.

Clearly the Best Cheese Steak

By atomickats |

On consecutive days we ate at a number of the most fabled Cheesesteak establishments. Genos came out on top. The steak was very flavorful, moist, the bread was great, the cheese tasted excellent, and the sandwiches were quite large. Wayyy better than Pat's across the street whose steak was cold, and removed from a pile of already cooked steak, dried, flavorless, the bun was like cardboard and the cheese was unmelted. It was also smaller. The only weakness was the fries. Pats fries were crispier and better. We tried several other places. Jims was very good, but not as good as Genos. This is what Philly Cheesesteak is supposed to be. Only other problem is that there is no indoor seating.

Head to head against two restaurants. 1 is Geno's

By Louinator59 |

I've always wanted to visit Philli and on my first trip we stop in to take Geno's head to head with Pat's King of Steaks. Who do you think won? Watch the video on Youtube video 6D80HtwQWxU (copy and paste this code into Youtube.

We were staying in a place close by

By MeryMeCo |

We stayed at a home on 6th street so we walked up to 9th street a few times and Geno's Steaks was always busy. On our day of rest, we walked up and had lunch at Geno's and it was a very good sandwich. Wish we would have had time to come back on another day.

First time in Philly trying a cheesesteak

By Adrian F |

First time in Philly from Arizona and first time trying a Philly cheesesteak and it was the worst experience ever the cashier at the window with the most belligerent person I’ve ever met in my entire life with being completely disrespectful for no reason other than the fact that they said they had to make food at 1 AM in the morning hint if you don’t like to cook at 1 AM in the morning no one is forcing you to have that job quit especially if you’ve been doing it for 15 years like the cashier said. I don’t care if you’re from Philly there’s no reason to treat anyone of disrespect for no reason have some human decency the cashier needs to be fired the place needs to be cleaned up it’s 2022 either keep up with the standards or close down your business. FYI I can make a Philly cheesesteak 10 times better and I’m not even from here and I’ve not had a cook since I was seven years old get some new ingredients or get some better cooks who care about your business

No restroom, only street seating

By David T |

Very Greedy business, they have a gift shop just across but they have a big sign of NO Restrooms. No customer service and food is mediocre. This is a very famous place and is visited by schools, tourists , old people.

Got to visit the origin of the Philly cheesesteak

By Greg W |

Had to journey to the home of the cheesesteak on my first visit to Philly. The folks at Gino's have an amazing process for moving the line and getting you your sandwich in short order. It was everything I expected. Excellent roll, perfectly cooked steak and gooey cheese. Don't pass up a chance to visit.

Classic sandwiches

By Eddie M |

Great sandwiches, in and out service, have tried others but not as good, will definitely be back when in town

We wanted to try the real deal while passing through Philly

By R8363QUdavidd |

One of the "homes" of the original Philly Cheesesteak. It was a very good sandwich, but they are a little too proud of them and the price reflects it.

First Philly Cheesesteak - delish!

By LuxeGirlNYC |

This was my first Philly Cheesesteak so I don't have anything to compare it to but I really enjoyed it. I got a cheesesteak with onions and wiz and thought it was very good. I must've picked a good time to go because there was no line! I would definitely have another one if I ever find myself in Philadelphia again.

Just no

By Julie W |

Not feeling the sliced unseasoned beef. The only saving grace was the baseball field across the street. No flavor. Large slices. Just no.

Mr roger

By roger d |

Steak was really dry no cheese in my cheesesteak really overrated, service was good the management just needs to get a little more delicate on the food side it would really help the businesses overall.

Quick stop, good grub!

By GretaPiggy |

We stopped her on a whim around 10:00 am. Not having had a true Philly cheesesteak, I asked what to get. She said to try the one with Cheese Whiz. It was delicious. I also had mushrooms and onions on mine. The bread is soft and delicious-so good! They were $11 each. There is a condiment bar and small picnic tables to eat at. People were rolling up to place orders on their way to the airport! You order your drinks at another window. Beware of the cranky lady at that window. She has zero patience and wants you out of her way.

Great visit

By Dominic Emery |

The whole experience was as expected. Don't visit if you don't like queues or paying cash or rapid fire service, visit a fine dining place instead. The sandwich was good (although my partner preferred the one from over the road), we got Cheesesteak with whizz and onions. There was sauce and relish if you wanted it, make sure you pick up plenty of napkins. Overall happy that I experienced this place and you will be too.

Not Bad!

By lirioblanco |

A bit confusing at first what with the two windows, one for food one for drinks, but pointed in the right direction by the lad cleaning up. Found the staff helpful and friendly. The Cheesesteak was good, not great, but freshly made with fresh ingredients.

Disappointing! We won't be back!!

By MidwestKathM |

While in Philadelphia for three days, we decided to hit one of the Philly Cheesesteak joints. Geno's is often at the top of the list, and we had been there once before. But likely our last visit there. We ordered two standard Philly Cheesesteaks with Whiz. And we greatly disappointed. Dry meat and not much Whiz flavor. Filled us up but did not scream or even whisper "delicious." Bye, bye!! We'll find another Philly local dish to try next time.

Another classic

By Shaun S |

If you like cheesesteaks and you are in Philadelphia, you should check out Geno’s. Both Pat’s and Geno’s are worth the stop.

Poor cheesesteaks

By Scott |

We have lived in Philly for three years, and have passed the typically busy Geno’s many times. Perhaps we simply came on an off day but the service was surly, the bread was chewy, and the meat tough and tasteless. I had the mushroom cheesesteak and my wife had the cheesesteak sub. There are much better places to get excellent cheesesteaks in Philly. Eat here only if you want to be able to say you did. Go elsewhere for good food.

Must Try

By RWG19 |

Come on, our first time to Philly so we had to do the Philly Cheese steak challenge. We got the Cheese Steak with mushrooms, peppers and whiz from both Geno's and Pat's. First they are both excellent! My wife voted for Geno's and I voted for Pat's but you can't go wrong either way! Cash Only.

Real Cool Spot, OK Food

By elchaco |

Obviously came to this corner for the battle of the cheesesteaks, unfortunately it was an underwhelming battle. The place itself is really cool and the service is great, but what I wanted to be great was the cheesesteak and it wasn't. Now it wasn't bad, but I've had better cheesesteaks. If you've never been then come once for the hype and just to say you've been, but I wouldn't go back.

Go to another cheesesteak place, not Geno’s at Philly airport. Only giving 1* since I cannot do “0”. Fat greasy & awful

By ROCKSTAR369 |

Go to Another cheesesteak place, not Geno’s. Ribeye meat that was tough & loaded with fat & fries were so/so luckily. Never again

Thi is Philly Cheesesteaks

By Steve |

There is no need to travel to any other cheesesteak restaurant. This place is tasty and nice atmosphere. Don’t forget about their cheese fries. HUGE portions.

Very good

By L Tran |

We had Philly Cheese Steak here right after Pat’s across the corner, and this was certainly our preference. The steaks, veggies were all flavorful. The cheese was nicely melted. The fries were not as good as those at Pat’s.

Best cheesesteak

By Happygoluckyang |

We tried both Geno’s and Pat’s cheesesteaks. And we both liked Geno’s best. There are two separate lines one for fries and one for cheesesteaks. Both are cash only. My hubby and I shared a cheesesteak with cheez wiz and fries. Fries were thin and crispy. Also, service was less than stellar, but sandwich made up for it. I recommend going during the day. The neighborhood seemed a little unsafe.

Historic stop

By livelife h |

I mean the spot is for tourists but it's also one of the original Philly cheesesteak places in the city so there is a historic piece to it. I enjoyed it for what it was plus I think their sign is awesome

Lousy cheesesteak, rude service.

By Greg |

The cheesesteak was lousy. No taste to it. Never again. Why do people rave about this no taste sandwich ? They were rude and rushed us thru. LOUSY !!

The Philly Cheesesteak

By 63impala |

Going to Geno's, I knew that it was geared more for tourists but with the claim that its the originals, you just have to. I have to admit, I went across the street to Pats first so I am judging it by theirs. There wasnt as much cheese as Pats and I really wasnt crazy over the dipped beef. With that said, I did enjoy it and didnt regret getting one. Geno's is a step below Pats. The whole production inside looked very clean and organized!

🧀🥖

By jakenherman |

Good standard cheese steak. We got cheese steak with whiz and onion. Cheese fries are a bit much. Cash only, but there is an ATM nearby. Come hungry because it is very filling.

Good sandwich

By Eric M |

We did the Pat's vs Geno's thing on our first night and this was my take. Geno's is the better overall restaurant. More choices, better customer service and cleaner. But the chopped style of the steak at Pat's was better tasting, the bread slightly better at Geno's. Was very happy with the experience.

Eh...

By richard l |

No place to park. No place to piss. No place to sit inside. If you want a cheese steak AND fries, you have to go to two separate windows. Logical. But here's the rub; the cheese steak isn't good. I threw half away.

For the tourists but worth it

By lifebeforethemantle |

Anyone who does any traveling knows that the best most authentic food rarely comes from the most popular restaurants. That being said I had to stop at Genos for a cheesesteak. I opted for the original with chez whiz, my S.O had one with provolone, both were delicious. You get what looks like a foot long sub for approx $11 USD. They only take cash though so come prepared. It was winter during my visit so there wasn't any line I drove up ordered my food (there was no line/wait) and was on my way. It's very bright and looks super clean. Thought about going to Pat's across the street but the service wasnt the greatest so we ended up back at Genos. BTW get the onions they enhance the favor and elevate the meal

Tasty

By SkiDudeGL |

good sandwich - hit the spot CASH ONLY very messy - go for the cheez wiz busy on a Sunday afternoon worth the wait

Yum!!!

By usnwalker |

We wanted to try both Pat’s and Geno’s steaks, and I have to say... Geno’s won by a lot! We had the cheesesteak with cheese whiz and a side of cheese fries. The sandwich was AMAZING, the steak itself had way more flavor than Pat’s and the cheese fries were great. They don’t skimp on cheese at all, and the fries were perfectly crispy. Super good, writing this review makes me want to go back!

Welcome to Philly

By Tisi torres |

A must have if visiting Philadelphia! Delicious Philly steak sandwich, the bread was soft, the meat had good flavor.. I ordered mine with onions and mushrooms, paired with the hot pepper, it was the best!!

Bad Steak

By fred v |

Geno's Steaks at the Philadelphia Airport had both bad food and poor service. Steaks were nowhere near good. Drink selection poor... no cola products. Staff neither pleasant or helpful. Lots of "attitude". Would not recommend to anyone.

Philly icon

By PAboyinFL |

Had a cheesesteak with mushrooms and "grilled" onions after just having one from the competition across the street. The onions were not cooked down and still had a bit of a crunch to them. We have tried Geno's on other occasions and each time found them to be second to the nearby competition. It is cash only, and there is limited parking available on the streets. There are tables for outside dining, and no inside dining.

Average

By Keith F |

We came to experience this famous Philly Cheesesteaks and left disappointed. The first thing I noticed was they don’t even chop up the meat so it’s easier to eat. Way too many onions as that’s all we tasted. The cheese wasn’t even melted and was on the bottom. The bread was ok as it held up and didn’t fall apart. Not worth the hype and not better than the other guy.

Best in town

By Chris Haslip |

Used to go across the street religiously because Pat’s was the original until my brother talked me into trying Genos. Now that is the only place I go. Genos meat is like a wafer slice, while Pat’s is more chopped and truthfully more grisly. Don’t forget that there are separate lines for sandwiches and another for fries and drinks. So if there are two of you I recommend splitting up to save time unless one of you is holding a table.

Disappointed in Philly

By Craig E |

Geno's has been on my bucket list for many years. Finally got to visit this past week for lunch. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. 1st, they are not very customer friendly. They only take cash. On the plus side, there is an ATM next door. Second, you have to order your sandwich from one window and pay, then go to another window and order fries and a drink. Also, you can't get a free cup of water, you have to buy a bottle. Third, the condiment stand is behind where you order the fries. The top is slanted, so you can't place your food while you get condiments without it sliding off. No trays were available either. Forth, the steak was ok. Slightly on the dry side. Fries were good. Atmosphere was kinda cool with all the pictures lining the eaves of the roof over the outdoor tables. It was neat to see celebrities without all the makeup. Overall, your local cheesesteak place is probably just as good. Pat's across the street seems to he more customer friendly. Not sure how the food stacks up.

great for entertainment and dining

By Monique D |

always great time when attending to bring family and friends to a local historical place in Philly. Gives Philly authentic food and history

When in Philadelphia...

By scubamex |

You have to experience at least one of the Cheesesteak places in South Philly. We choose Geno's this time and are glad that we did. Fresh and delicious!

very good.

By delp0rt |

So the battle rages. I have to say I am a Pat's fan, but I am always open to sharing my love with Geno's. They have an excellent product and the place is beautiful... iconic! I think you need to try both and decide for yourself... or do like I do... and mix it up from time to time.

Steaks!

By Kdawg282 |

Visited Genos during a recent family visit and it didn’t disappoint. Not the best steak in town but you have to visit if in the area for the experience. Worth the wait! Go get a nearby Pats and try both to see who really is on too.

There’s a Reason It’s a Landmark

By Michael V |

There’s a Reason It’s a Landmark - - - - - - - - November, 2025 Visit We were in town for a family baby shower and decided to enjoy some Philly steak and cheese for a late breakfast / early lunch. Good call. We ordered the standard Philly & cheese and all liked it; even though the chilly day quickly cooled them, we quickly ate the sandwiches because they taste so good. And two of us are gluten free (gf), so they ordered without the bread. Geno’s is open 24x7 and has picnic tables on the sidewalk (none inside); there is no onsite restroom. Good food; Thanks, Geno’s! ----- ----- -----

Save your money

By Steve G |

The best part of our meals was the cheese . We ordered delivery to our hotel. Food arrived faster than quoted. Cheesesteaks ordered. Came to us as deli sliced meat with cheese. A bit on the tough side for the meat. Fries were awful. Best part of these was the cup of cheese for the cheese fries. I would not order from here ever again.

Genos!

By Billy W |

Another staple in Philly, I found the price to be about the same as everyone else locally, this is located right across the street from Pats, so we compared the 2 on the same day, Genos had quick enough service, the steak was tender, we got the provolone cheese, fried onions and peppers on top, I would have prefered it with wizz for the future, but overall it was good flavor. The have a few tables outfront to sit at.

Not Worth the Hype

By love2vacay |

A little better than Pats, but nothing to write home about. Very little cheese. Not a lot of flavor. Onions better than Pat's. That's the only flavor I got out of it. Onion. Not worth all the hype. Very disappointed. We love a ooey gooey cheesesteak. This was not even close, even with double cheese on it. Didn't help that some of the orders were wrong. Girl at window writes nothing down. Just yells out the order to cooks. Made for several mistakes to our order.

PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE

By Michelle Q |

This place is vomitive. The service is so bad and the people are so rude I cannot explain it to you. It is honestly so sad that they are as successful as they and they are treating people so rudely. The women cashier had to have been one of the rudest people i have ever met in my life. My experience was completely ruined. SERIOUSLY DONT GO THERE THEY TREAT CUSTUMERS SOOOO BAD YOU ARE LITERALLY BETTER OFF GOING TO SUBWAY

We took the challenge

By Benamard |

My wife and I took the Geno vs Pat’s challenge and we both agreed Pat’s was better. We kept the orders the same, but the cheese and seasoning at Pat’s made all the difference. Geno’s gets 8/10 while Pat’s gets 10/10.

Disappointed 😔

By Amanda E |

So... I was super excited that they did not have a line. I ordered a cheesesteak hogie with provolone. The meat was kinda dry. The onions were flavorful but over all the sandwich was a dry let down. However the fries were really great. I guess next time I’m in town I will be trying Pats

Really awful

By Elizabeth G |

My husband's workmates from philly told us about geno's. If course we had to check it out. Everything I read was true. Its terrible service, expensive and the food was awful. I guess it's an acquired taste???

My Pick of the Two

By tumbleweedchris |

I did the whole tourist deal and tried both of these spots one evening. A cheese steak with whiz will run you about $16. Adding fries and a drink adds another $10. Between the two, I thought this one was a little juicier so I gave the edge to Geno's, but honestly its hard for me to really pick out many differing details. Neither one of these places are world beaters. I had a better cheese steak at the Shady Maple just the day before, for instance. But you still got to do the thing. It's kind of a coin flip, but I'll take Geno's.

Delicious Food 🇺🇸

By SixtyOne |

When in Philly Geno's it's a must place to visit. The cheese steak sub was delicious and good value for money. I must agree with the other reviewers regarding the two windows for ordering. Meaning you need to queue twice, once for the subs and then again for drinks and fries which is a little strange.

Horrible parking, hassling solicitors and an overrated meal

By Matt W |

First and foremost the parking in the area is unbelievably impossible - drove around for 15-20 minutes before almost giving up. Had initially intended to stop @ Pat’s but parking opened up directly in front of Geno’s. I will say the kitchen and dining area seemed very clean but having to order from separate windows was a little ridiculous - but not a deal breaker. I had long awaited the chance to try either Pat’s or Geno’s and I have to say this will be a one time thing / WAY OVERATED! In my honest opinion - the Chicago beef beats the Philly Cheesesteak hands down. My cheesesteak was dry, flavorless and had old chewy bread. Not impressed. Additionally, the management did nothing to address the solicitors trying to get $ and sell you a box of candy bars from Sam’s/Costco.

Tourist Trap gone downhill

By Eric R |

I know it’s a tourist trap but what a terrible experience last night. Was in the area w friends looking at Christmas lights. Hardly any meat on the sandwich and overloaded w undercooked onions. That was my last visit. Jim’s on S Street or Abners by Penn’s campus will be where I go next time

Steak and Whizz

By Reuben Paesch |

Amazing Steak Sandwich! I ordered the steak and whiz and onions...it was amazing!! Service is fast and barely any wait time. Just note that this place is cash only! But there is an ATM very close by.

Prices too high for what it offers

By AndreaScumi |

The "Cheesesteak" sandwich is nothing extraordinary (here, as in the other places where it is sold), but on the other hand we are in the United States and finding good food is a difficult task, so I understand why it is the typical dish of the city (at least it's not the usual hamburger like in the rest of the USA!). However, if it were just for the sandwich, I would have given it at least 4 stars, because the meat inside wasn't bad. I only leave 3 stars for these reasons: - the prices are really very high compared to what you eat - the area isn't that great and you eat in an uncomfortable situation, so for this reason too the prices should be lower than they are - they don't accept credit cards, only cash (if you propose yourself as the place where all foreign tourists must taste this dish, you can't put this limitation!)

Worst steak sandwich I’ve EVER had!

By Jbkvgirl |

Where do I begin? Rude worker, dry thick cold beef slapped on a bun, NO flavor- even with onions and mushrooms added, NO beverages, NO public restrooms, NO napkins. My aunt has lived in Philly 90 years and this was her first time visiting. She threw hers in the garbage after one bite. Disgusting! See the picture. That’s what I got! NE Philly has plenty of places to get a GOOD cheesesteak! Go elsewhere. Absolutely TERRIBLE all around.

At least I can say I had one...

By Allen H |

Talk about disappointed! Maybe it was all the hoopla. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. Maybe it is what it is. Whatever the reason, this had to be the most bland, unseasoned, uninspiring cheesesteak I've ever had. I've had better from places in Arkansas that don't even consider themselves a cheesesteak joint. Oh well. As a tourist, I can at least say I've had a Geno's cheesesteak.

Even better than its reputation!

By travelerwayne1997 |

Geno's has a flashy facade, especially at night - but the food - ESPECIALLY the cheese steaks - are absolutely outstanding.

Overrated!

By Karen H |

One cheesesteak ($14), one Italian hoagie ($14), one bottle of water ($4). The hoagie was good but not the best I've had. The bottle of water (Geno's "own") was large but still pricey. The cheesesteak wasn't the best with few peppers and onions and not the amount of meat one would expect (based on pictures). He was definitely disappointed. No indoor seating (& outdoor seating wasn't serviced that I could tell--fries on the ground and no one coming around to wipe down tables) and no credit cards--cash only-- but service was fairly quick. Been there, done that, don't need to do it again.

Steak and Cheese Challenge

By Brian G |

Like so many have done while visiting Philly I was able to do tph Genos and Pats Challenge which place makes the better steak and cheese sub. I think you have to compare the same sub so my brother and i got the Wiz With which is steak and cheese with grilles onions and cheese wiz. I preferred genos and he liked past so the battle will continue for another 50 years I am sure

Cheesesteak - what else can you say?

By John B |

You gotta have a cheesesteak when you visit Philly. I like Geno's. It is a classic. I had the traditional cheesesteak with American Cheese. YUM!

Quick stop

By lizakq |

The service was fast and philly cheesesteaks were good. If you are looking for something quick to eat this is a good option.

Tourist Trap

By Arnold B |

Took my girlfriend (now wife) to Philly (we live in Texas) promising to get her the best cheesteak in America. It was he absolute worse. I guess the kids took over. I used to work around Philly and back in the day it was the best. Now it's a complete tourist trap. Two cheese steaks two small drinks about 30 bucks cash only.

Very bland. Very boring. Too much hype for nothing at all.

By John Doe |

My husband and I spent a few days in Philadelphia so we wanted to try both Geno's and Pat's. Both were awful, flavorless and bland. It must be a local thing.

The big debate

By Tinkerbell1391 |

We are from out of town so our first mission was to determine if we were a Geno's family or Pat's. Overall we enjoyed the Geno's sandwhich but we liked Pat's better. Geno's fries were better than Pat's (in our opinion) and Pat's had Dr pepper so another plus in my book. Overall Pat's won but Geno's won in the fry and Customer service category!

Good food unsafe neighbourhood

By SuperTravller |

This is a must try place but there is no security or police around late at night when the club patrons show up. It gets a bit dicey here and the homeless people are aggressive junkies. I had a bad experience with a doped up homeless junky here and luckily some drunk club goers stepped in. The Sandwiches are a must try, maybe go here during the day.

Not bad - but not the best.

By R. Traveler |

Not bad - but not the best. Genoa’s has one of the better Philly cheesesteaks in town - and service is much better than their competition across the street. Subs are about the same. It’s clean, quick and tasty. There are many places with cheesesteaks I like more but MANY not as good. I for sure recommend you give Geno’s a try if in the area.

Nasty Food and Nasty Staff

By Deborah G |

NASTY- the food and the employees and their attitudes. WILL NEVER SPEND another penny here. DO NOT waste your time or money!!!

Cheesesteak

By Shayne Roy |

If you love a sloppy delicious cheese steak, definitely Geno's is your best bet. We also went to Jim's steaks and personally I like them more, less soggy more fresh and the meat was cooked perfectly. Also geno's is a little overpriced compared to Jim's that we went to.

Good local place

By Voyage Critic |

Geno is a great place to try Philly cheesesteak. It is clean, well-lit and the service is friendly. They layer their meat in flat layers, so it appears to be less than Pat's. The bread was soft and fresh tasting.

Very good steaks

By markbkeller |

Geno’s is pretty much equal with Pat’s across the street. Both offer delicious Philadelphia fare. The cheesesteak with American and onions is great. My only issue is that due to this being in a neighborhood the parking is difficult, however well worth the walk which is very safe. Of course you get the infamous Philadelphia attitude which is delightful

Cards not accepted in 2024

By Patrick |

Would have loved to try their cheese steak, but in the year 2024 cash is fading away and digital payments and card payments are the future. This place is stuck in the past. I don’t carry cash and have no reason to these days and refuse to pay ATM fees. Pats is across the street and is accepting card payments. Maybe in the future if they start accepting card payments I’ll be able to give this place a try.

not all Philly cheesesteaks are the same

By Jennifer F |

Tourist trap. Sandwiches are sub-par at best. Disappointing first try of a "genuine Philly Cheesesteak".

Flavorful

By Roses |

Yum! The bread is a bit sweet and the overall taste is full of flavor. I’d definitely recommend this iconic place to others. Between this and Pat’s, I’d pick here although if you can get both, go for it!

Above average Cheesesteak

By Mike T |

First trip to Philly and we wanted to try both Pats and Geno's. At Geno's. The roll was nice and soft and the meat was well flavored, but not quite warm enough to melt the cheese. We also had fries and drinks. A very solid cheesesteak and a fun place to visit for a good sandwich.

Food Trials 2020

By ed M |

Good food and service. Long lines at times but workers do not have an attitude. Cash only and very limited street parking. Reasonable price.

Live casino location

By Hollie S |

Terrible. Long wait, staff were rude, meat was so dry we could barely chew it. Was in turn from Florida and wanted an original Philly cheesesteak. No time to go to the main restaurant location but this location should be serving the same food. I hope it’s not because it was terrible

Delicious first time cheesesteak

By Maddy H |

First off, this is not a restaurant! As a tourist, we had no idea! This is fast food that you buy at a window and eat at a metal table on the pavement. But it was delicious!! My first ever Philly cheesesteak, and it did not disappoint. I suspect there may be better out there, but when in Philly you must visit the original.

Not the best meat

By Jean M |

This place is popular, but there are better cheese steaks in Philadelphia. The beef seemed inferior to what I am used to. Very disappointing. The staff were not particularly friendly. Quite impersonal. I do not recommend.

Get that cheesesteak!!

By LoveTravel768257 |

Geno's has a long tradition of offering the best cheesesteaks you can find, so go get one right now! I said now!!

Better than Pat's

By Robert C |

Bought steak subs at both Genos and Pats. Hands down, Genos was better. Next time I won't buy from both, just Genos.

A must when in town

By Abbie W |

Visited both Pats and Genos day n our recent trip to Philly with friends from the city. Totally touristy but a must do all the same. Great experience especially getting the kids to practice their order before hand (whiz wit) tough call to make between the two but must husband preferred Genos so we visited the outlet at the airport before flying home.

Philly Cheesesteak in Philly was a Folly

By Stacy |

Of course, like a typical tourist, I had to partake in the city's delicacy. After reading several restaurant reviews, I decided on Geno's, mostly because of its appearance and location to my next stop. This restaurant is cash only, which I never carry as a single female traveler, but there is an ATM located across the street - most likely owned by them so they can profit from people who don't carry cash. There is no indoor dining either, so dress warmly. It was very windy on the day I went, so indoor dining would've been delightful so I could fully appreciate the sandwich. Between the ATM situation and dining outdoors in January, it was not the best experience, and the cheesesteak was mediocre at best. I've had better cheesesteaks from Lenny's Grill and Subs, which is a chain. It's a one-and-done for me.

Good introduction to cheesesteaks

By Louis F |

They aren't the best in the city but if you have some time in Philly, you need to try them at least once. It is a quality cheesesteak They are cash only but there is an ATM very close by. Lines can be pretty long so maybe try and go a little before or after the lunch hours.

Major disappointment

By Brian R |

Very disappointing, cheese steak was very dry and little taste. We were all really excited but this was the worst ever. No bathroom either. Will never come back.

Is it Cheese Whiz?

By Mark P |

What wonderful experience to be part of Americana. We shared a Geno sandwich and then moved across the street to try Pat's. The workers were not real helpful to explain the procedure. Get your sandwich and pay for it and then move down and pay for your drink seperately. Cash only.

Unsatisfying experience at Geno's

By Alan T |

Had steak sandwiches with mushrooms and peppers. Very tasty, but very messy and difficult to eat. Didn't do this, but recommend having sandwich cut in half. The fountain drink was too small (only one size offered) and had no ice; was Luke warm. If ice had been added, there would be hardly anything to drink.

Was waiting to go there for so long..

By Jason T |

AND WAS SUPER DISAPPOINTED....was up there with my son for a tournamentNd had to go visit the the famous Geno’s to get. Cheese steak, one of my favorite things to eat. Heard that you needed to order a specific way or they will flip you crap...so we studied and looked on what we needed to do. Well the girl who took our order was super nice, which was cool but wanted the abuse. The cheese steak was not at all what I expected. Meat was dry and had zero flavor, only thing good there were the drinks and fries. Not returning.

Genos vs Pats

By logan l |

1st time in Philly. Had to try Genos and Pats. Both were good. I would recommend Genos. The bread seemed softer and fresher than Pats. I liked the meat better too.

Famous for a reason!

By TrinaB437 |

What can I say, it was cheesy goodness. The service was quick, fast and the food was hot. My only complaint is tight parking, but it comes with the territory. Loved it!

Great place to eat

By Dan B |

This place is hopping. The cheesesteak is great and the lady taking your payment is friendly. This place gets busy during lunch and I can see why.

Did not live up to the hype!

By 917JohnB269 |

I heard about this place and along with Pat`s right across the street for years as well as seeing them featured on the Food Network a few times. What I experienced were long lines and rushed window service. You need to go to separate windows for your sandwich and our beverage. Then the challenge to find a table outside that you hope the las people left clean. Now the sandwiches are decent size with fantastic rolls. The meat was very tender but somewhat bland, onions could of been cooked down some more. The fries were just fries, so so. I am not saying anything was horrible but I can get better Philly Steaks right here in Saratoga, NY. When we are in Philidelphia again we will give Pat`s Steaks a shot out of curiosity.

Parker says "Average cheesesteak, sliced not chopped"

By Parker Sturbridge |

Geno's and Pat's are the two veritable tourist traps when it comes to cheesesteak. There are better places in Center City. Speaking of Center City, this place is a bit out of the central area, so somewhat difficult to get to from the other tourist attractions. Geno's sparkles inside and out and appears to be incredibly clean. Service staff is super friendly. But the sandwich falls short because they slice rathern than chop the steak, and it's tough to eat. There are better places right in town and in the Terminal Market.

Fun but not that great

By ChzHeadTX |

Chewy bun, basic cheesesteak, bland, historical. Come for the experience. Once. We compared with Pat’s across the street and Geno’s is better (but still not too good),

We had to visit this iconic cheesesteak place. Food was OK

By Matias B |

Before leaving Philadelphia we decided to visit this iconic corner of the southern part of the city: Pat's and Geno's. The place itself was pretty clean, and the service was good. Extremely fast. We got a traditional wiz cheesesteak and some fries. Nothing too special but worth the visit. In our mind, the cheesesteak would come with chopped meat, but instead (and I believe Pat's is relatively similar), Geno's prepares the sandwich with actual slices of meat. It's just a matter of preferences.

Not the best

By Von1287 |

I would say the bread was not as good here, the meat was not as flavorful and overall not our favorite of the cheesesteaks we tried. It is a must stop though given the history and the location is pretty cool!

Cold cheesesteak

By UGAaaron81 |

If you are going to charge close to $20 for a cheesesteak make sure you melt the cheese 🤦🏻‍♂️. Geno’s don’t put your name on this airport product if this is the best you can do. Long time fan but this was disappointing.

Top cheesesteak

By Giorginakobe |

Super good cheesesteak, a must try if you are in Philadelphia. Attention... they only accept cash, but in case there is an ATM in front of the cashier of the club. Advise !!

Better than Pat's

By arienojm |

We tried both places right after another (I do not recommend that) and their steak was better than Pat's. I had their Italian sub and it was fantastic. Fries were pretty good too.

Wow! 🙌

By Dude Man |

Wow! This might be the best cheesesteak in all of Philly! Geno’s is super good!! I love that they are right next to the other best place in Philly; Pat’s also. It is fun comparing and contrasting the 2. Geno’s is definitely more updated than Pats. The steak, onions, bread, and cheese are all excellent. The cheese steak is definitely the star of the show! My only critique is the fries were too much like McDonald’s though. We got 1 cheesesteak with provolone and 1 with cheese wiz. Both were awesome!

Did the tourist thing. . .

By luv2vacation0 |

We totally did the tourist thing today and I’m not sorry. We didn’t plan a stop in Philadelphia but our oldest saw this place on Food Network and really wanted to go. It wasn’t too far off the highway and most of the streets had 2 hour parking. Everything was full so we drove around and waited for someone to leave which only took about 5 min. It was cash only but there is an ATM across the street. Our kiddo was thrilled with the sandwich & we thought it was good too. They had cheese fries for our younger one. Everyone working there was very nice. The prices were reasonable and we got to see a little of the city.

Funny story

By Davin D |

If you’ve never heard the story you need to go by and understand the story of Geno's steaks. Overall the food was really good. we had to wait just a bit for the food but busy restaurants are a good thing.

A great overall experience.

By PatrickCTMD |

Yeah, yeah, it's a tourist trap. A tourist trap that served one of the best cheesesteaks I have ever had. We were in Philadelphia for less than 24 hours and I had to leave with something. So against most recommendations I got, I went to Geno's. (Pat's was closed.) I ordered my Cheesesteak with provolone and waited 5 minutes for my juicy and delicious steak sandwich. It need salt and pepper. Luckily I keep it in the car. A perfect snack to split on the way back to Maryland.

Expensive for what you get !

By James H |

I was a little disappointed by the restaurant. The Philly Cheese-steak was tasty but I am not sure it was worth the price. The area is a little kitch/hipster so I am unsure how it feels at nighttime as a tourist. Given the cost you do not really get a premium feel about the place. Seating on plastic tables that are semi clean. Fries were also an addition cost alongside drinks. The place also only takes cash ! Honestly I found better cheese-steaks in the old town for a fraction of the price and in nicer dinning areas. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the food but I really felt the cost was not worth it.

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY

By Mikayla K |

food is over rated the owners son is god awful rude and pegged a steak at my GRANDMOTHER while she walked for asking for chz and getting rude responses then my grandfather finishes his steak and the son continues to harass my grandparents to the point my grandmother was scared

Horrible

By zztay |

The WORST cheesesteak I have ever had! If I could give this 0 stars I would! My sandwich looked like they just threw the cheese on top and served it to me, cold , unmelted cheese. The customer service was poor as well! I do not recommend this place at all!

Ok at best

By Kwright65 |

Always wanted to try this place. Extremely dry. Had to try it, but once was enough. Glad we walked across the street to pat’s. We had other steaks in the city and they were better. Eat there because it is an institution. We were there at 11:30. Maybe they were off their game

Cheesesteak war challange

By jamie p |

We ordered a cheesesteak with onions and whiz just as we did at Pats. Geno's won hands down. The bread was softer and meat seamed juicer. We did try Tony Luke's in the airport on the way out and it was good to. Geno's and Tony's are in the running for best one. Tony's added au jus and it was the wettest cheesesteak but made the bread a little soggy. I also tried the pork sandwhich with cheese that was just alright... wouldn't get that one again.

OVER RATED BIG TIME

By WMD |

I wanted to love this place given all the rage with Philly cheesesteaks. What a major disappointment. It completely lacked flavor. Not enough meat. The onions were severely undercooked and greasy. The “best” thing was the bread. I can get bread for much less than $11. After this terrible experience I cannot understand why people think this place is worth trying. Clearly the Philadelphia taste buds are simple and very unsophisticated cause this sandwich sucked.

Good cheesesteak

By Pirate828 |

It's a tourist trap, but it's Philly iconic and the steak isn't bad, not the best in the city but not bad. Do it with whiz, take a photo.

Half of my family preferred here, but I wasn't sold

By 2020worldtraveler2020 |

We tried Pat's and Geno's in succession and more family members preferred this place, as the cheese quality was much better. I also appreciated the seating was a bit nicer than the competition, though we did get lambasted by a passing homeless person who was not short of opinions. Still, happy that I got the chance to eat here!

Dry, unseasoned beef. Awful.

By Danielle C |

Their airport location… This was the nastiest sandwich I’ve ever eaten. Philly should ban their use of the name Philly cheesesteak. Our family of 4 thought we’d “eat local” at the airport and $100 later we all agreed: THE WORST meal we’ve ever had.

Dissappointing

By Wayne D |

After all the hype on TV about Pat's vs Geno's, we got to eat at both of them, one right after the other. Frankly, we were disappointed in both. While Geno's "steak with" and Provolone was good, the bread was tough. I have certainly eaten better.

One Word: Overrated

By Kurt J |

Pat’s and Geno’s feature the sliced steak as opposed to the much better Shredded Cheesesteaks of most places. Not sure why this place is so iconic. I see the reviews agree with me, overall.

Grubhub

By Stan Tecza |

Always order Genos off Grubhub to avoid the long lines. My wife swears by Genos as her go to cheesesteak and I am always obliged to pick up a cheesesteak and a roast pork when I visit Philly. Great customer service. Nice location. Would like to see lit up at night one evening. Always seem to go during the day.

Certainly overated

By Mrs B |

Service was quick. There was nothing great about it though. Not seasoned and disappointing. Hopefully, the next time we visit Philly, we'll have an experience with a real Philly Cheesesteak, because this was not it. Oh yeah, the fries are horrible. Since there is next to no seating there, by the time we got back to the hotel to eat, they were hard and dried out (shoestring potatoes - the worst); waste of money. If you are going to give it a go, It's CASH only, so be prepared....

Not a huge fan but you may like it!

By PetertheTeslaFanMan |

Don’t really get the hype about this place. Sure, it’s exciting to try an original cheesesteak, but maybe I’m just used to “not original” ones. It lacked any flavor, the meat seemed a bit dry, and there was hardly any cheese (we went with provolone and the sandwich had maybe two slices on it). Pat’s sandwich had more meat on it but Geno’s had a better meat-to-bread ratio and was less messy to eat.

Excellent food!

By Maureen M |

Excellent food served hot and fresh. Well worth th wait. Parking was tricky in that area, but after you get your steak you willbe in heaven.

More sightseeing than AMAZING cheesesteaks... 😏

By Matthias K |

Continuing my Philly (Cheesesteak) sightseeing Geno‘s was next. Geno‘s with it‘s bright orange your has an intense, screaming brand scheme going there. This is the only place where they did not cut the meat down to bits which some in our group appreciated. I feel like I am more on the side of chopping it up. 😂 It felt like Geno‘s left us a bit short of cheese whiz, doesn‘t it... 🤨😅 Still a really good sandwich but there actually are differences. 😁

Face off

By Sarah E |

We did a face off with Pats across the street. It's a big city rival. Our 13, 14, and 11 year old boys preferred Geno's. Pat's was too greasy. Although Pat's did cut the meat where Geno's did not. Cash only.

It Was Edible

By Travis G |

While in Philadelphia, we really wanted to get some cheesesteaks so we tried the most famous places. Geno's looks cool and it's iconic so it has that going for it. The lady who took our order was super friendly. That's a other plus. The cheesesteak itself wasn't absolutely gross but I've had much better. The sandwich was lukewarm with kinda soggy bread. I'll try some of the places that local go the next time I'm in Philadelphia.

Philly !!!

By Thiago S |

This is the classic Philly Cheesesteak!!! If you’re going to the city, don’t miss out on eating one. I recommend .... there are many places, but this is a classic.

Mixed Feelings

By DespoinaM |

Maybe this was just not my thing. There was huge line - but it was going fast. It was just a sandwich - was too big, too fatty basically nothing special. I was just tasting melted buttery cheese. Didnt worth the trip there for us.

Fast paced outstanding cheesesteak as usual every year

By Mark N |

I'm from Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh to be exact but moved out to Arizona back in the late '80s. I come back here every year and literally drive from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia to get both a Pat's and a Gino's cheesesteak. The problem with all these bad reviews are people looking for some kind of gourmet steak sandwich. THAT IS NOT WHAT A CHEESE STEAK IS. It's a cheese steak, not a steak sandwich you're going to get at a middle class to fancy restaurant. Pat has better bread, Gino's has better steak and whiz. When you're going to get a cheese steak it's going to be on a soft hoagie roll. your going to have some thinly cut ribeye, some onions, peppers and of course cheese whiz. If you're one of those people trying to substitute any of those toppings for something like provolone cheese or add mushrooms, an OG CHEESESTEAK IS NOT FOR YOU. so don't eat it and give it a one star review saying it was awful, you just don't know what you're eating. Cheesesteaks are definitely not for everybody, so go back to whatever high-end restaurant you just paid $33 for a steak sandwich at.

Awful!!

By Alicia N |

Don't beleive the hype with Genos the sandwiches are horrible. We already had to drive around to finally b find a space to park and then walk to it and It was our first time coming to Philly and we were excited to try it. They have no seasoning and the steak meat taste like it was soaked in water very bland. Bread hard too. Also my hubby told me when he was getting out order staff is kind of rude too. Never again first and last time. Not a fan! Sorry. 😔

Not all that

By maria s |

This place gets way too much hype. Meat was dry. They do offer big sweet chilli peppers. We went around 12:00 p.m. and there wasn’t a huge line

Buy fries here, get the steak at Pat’s

By Jimmy H |

I’ve tried many cheese steaks in philly, the best is by far Johns Roast Pork. But if you’re near this landmark, skip the sandwiches and go next door to Pat’s. Geno’s is all looks, but has tasty fries.

Waste of time and money

By rayej |

Like their competitor's across the street, Geno's cheesesteaks do not live up to the hype. Unseasoned meat thrown on a roll with bland taste. I have no idea how either place got 4 or 5 star reviews, those people must not have had a real rib eye cheesesteak before. The area of this establishment is seedy with parking hard to find. There are tables outside to sit and eat at. CASH ONLY! One line for steaks and another for fries and drinks. Save yourself the energy and eat elsewhere. I gave 4 stars because the staff was well organized with fast, friendly service.

Go once and then never again.

By Ashton B |

For $12 you get a hard bread roll, some onions, and two slices of meat- but hey, you’ve gotten the chance to say you ate at Geno’s. There’s much better places to go- places with seasoned meat and salted fries. Go once to say you did and then find a decent cheese steak almost anywhere else.

Substandard Steak Sandwich

By Bernard L. Fontaine, Jr. |

We were returning home from vacation when my son’s suggested going here. In the past, the food was excellent and filling. But today, all of the orders were completely substandard. There was very little provolone cheese and only a few strips of steak. The sandwich was mostly bread. While the taste was good, we shouldn’t be paying exorbitant amount for bread. This will not happen again. Next time we go across the street to Pat’s. Maybe they can serve a really good Philly cheese steak sandwich. So disappointed in Geno’s

Geno’s Steaks Philly Airport-Horrible!

By Floridastate2019 |

We had a layover at the Philly airport, figured a cheesesteak was a no brainer. This cheesesteak has no taste, I actually had to use salt which shouldn’t be with a good cheesesteak. It was greasy so greasy. It was the Steak Um’s brand you buy in the supermarket. Horrible. The guy cooking the steak slices was just pouring oil on the cook top. Hardly any onions on it and the bread was like something from WaWa. Worst cheesesteak!!!

Not worth the Hype

By Raffi S |

We tried Geno’s to compare with the competition across the street and was disappointed.... First off I’m not a fan of a business encroaching in another unless your product or service is superior.... in this case Geno’s sandwich was not. The meat was not finely cut or properly seasoned and the cheese was buried at the bottom of the bun instead of on top. The Original across the street was hands down superior.... save your appetite

BEST IN PHILADELPHIA

By rpgamble7 |

By far the best Cheesesteak in Philadelphia. Can not beat the taste. Have tried Pat's and Luke's and they are both good but not like Genos. Love this place.

Horrible Customer service: Basic subs

By Barium P |

Horrible customer service! They rush you when ordering, the ring you up wrong, nasty subs 🤢.+ flies

Simple food

By Naijutza |

As we are living as Swiss for over a half year in South Philly now, we wanted to try this famous imbiss. The traditional cheesesteak is bread, meat and cheese. The meat was average, the cheese for American standards good. (We did not find good cheese (except Swiss Imported) in Supermarktes so far..) Be aware of a long waiting line during rush hours. In you have Kids, next to the Imbiss is a great playground.

Had Better at Charleys Philly Steaks

By Md Customer |

Made a trip all the way from Maryland to try some of their famed subs; we were very disappointed! And what is up with cash only in the year 2021?? Seriously, why are they forcing customers to pay cash? I'm guessing, they, including Pat's, probably own the ATM machine right across the street from their location that charges $3.75 per transaction.

PA YUM!

By Jeanne H |

On a recent trip to Philadelphia, we did the ultimate cheesesteak experience. Tried all 3 of the "big name" spots, Geno's, Pat's and Tony Luke's. Hard choice between Pat's & Geno's but in our opinion Geno's are the best with Pat's coming in 2nd and Tony Luke's a distant 3rd.

Not the best

By LyTravels |

This was supposed to be the best, the original. It was so dry and bland. I could t believe it. This place is all show. The cheesesteak was terrible. I couldn’t believe how dry it was.

I had to try a philly cheese

By Happy traveler Jen |

I had to try a philly cheese steak while in Philadelphia. This was listed among the best in town. The line wrapped around the building but went quickly. They only accept cash and beware that one window is for sandwiches only and then you move ahead to grab you drink and fries. It was an interesting dining experience and I’m happy to say I tried one. I’m not sure if I would go again only because I would prefer a Chicago style beef sandwich instead. I would recommend sharing your meal with a buddy as it is very filling.

Geno’s

By GoVols79 |

We visited on a weeknight in October and while business was steady it was never crowded. I looked at the menu ahead of time so I would know what I was doing but it wasn’t like soup nazi pressure. Food came out quickly and we enjoyed it. We took an Uber from downtown and got half our meal at Geno’s and then went across the street to Pat’s for an authentic Philly cheesesteak experience at these two restaurants.

Trying The Philly Cheesesteak

By mssoellegant |

Geno's is quite yummy, we really enjoyed the seasoning of the cheesesteak! Fries were nothing special but still pretty good!

After they remodeled Geno’s

By Davron K |

After they remodeled Geno’s steaks I think everything changed they started making juicy cheesesteaks “you will love it”

It won the test

By Jktchorne |

When in Philly you eat Philly cheesesteaks! First thing on bucket list! Original we planned to at Pat’ not knowing Geno’s was there also! A local told try both and we did! Geno was much better! Love the cheese whiz and peppers!!!

Good Cheesesteak Operation

By MommaJage |

We stopped for a cheesesteak showdown late on a spring Saturday night. Line was long but moved at a good pace. The area was full of people and cars and the usual late Saturday night antics. They had quite the "brand" going on with updated graphics, staff in matching tshirts, and hot sauce for sale. The staff were brisk and efficient but not rude. We ordered and paid for a cheesesteak at the first window. Fries and drinks were available at the second window. Cash only. The cheesesteak seemed a sort of reasonable price but I was surprised at the cost of fries and soda. It was almost $20 meal for one. Overall we liked the cheesesteak, but not enough to win our showdown. The meat was left in larger strips and the bread was a little tough. Fries were skinny and good. If you go for the total "Philly" experience, you will enjoy this meal.

Overrated

By Angie |

Not impressed at all. They barely put any meat on their cheesesteaks and it is extremely bready. It's overpriced and also in a really bad neighborhood. Save your time and money and please go somewhere else. It is a tourist trap.

Great Philly steak

By Sergei PT |

It was highly recommended from several people that used to live in Philadelphia and it didn't disappoint. Great simple sandwich. I had the whiz classic one with onions and put nothing extra on it. Not being able to pay with credit card was a bit of a curve ball.

Sorry, just MEH.

By Jon M |

I'm glad I'm not the only one on here who felt the "myth" was better than the reality. We ordered two cheesesteak sandwiches and fries, the fries were horribly mediocre, and the cheesesteaks were greasy, soaking the bun with grease, and largely tasteless. It's like they prepare it just to shove it out the window, they don't care whether it's good or not. Seems like they trade on a past reputation, so they don't have to care. We had heard about this place for years, so while in Philadelphia decided to make a special trip, but it was enormously disappointing, made us feel like we wanted to find another restaurant and get something decent to eat. More like carnival food where you pay a lot and get nothing but mass produced yuck. Sorry, it was awful on all levels.

Pretty oke

By Weekend_traveler_87 |

Better than pats. Nice whole slices of meet and a pretty decent bun. I preferred the cheese of pats though. Place is tidy, orderly and kitchen looks clean. Staff friendly

Tasty Philly Cheesesteak

By Kala W |

Had 4 different Philly cheesesteak places on my trip and they were all tasty. Geno's was good, the whiz was a bit thin and drippy, but still tasted good.

Excellent Cheese Steak

By JDtravel4fun |

It is worth all of the hype. The cheese steak had lots of meat, onions and cheese whiz. Bread was fresh. Recommend getting a cheese steak from Geno’s and Pat’s then comparing the two. Both are excellent in their own way.

Great Philly Cheesesteak!

By ihuckle |

Does what it says on the tin, great Philly Cheesesteak, never had one before, loved it! Expensive for fast food, but worth it for the experience.

Airport location tastes just as good

By Dr. Beach |

The best Philly cheesesteak I have had inside of Philly. One of the things that set it apart, are the onions and peppers that you must add if you want the real experience. I went to the one in the airport location in Philadelphia as I was traveling through. It’s the very same as you get at their store in downtown Philadelphia.

Disappointed

By GiaTruPyt |

Had to try one since we were in Philly, not sure what all the fuss is about. Staff was rude and not helpful. No direction on ordering - 1 window for steaks, separate window for fries and drinks. CASH ONLY it was pricey -$12 for a 12” cheesesteak and $5 for a drink.

Airport Cheesesteak Fantastic

By johnforourke |

I ordered a pepper cheesteak with mushrooms from Geno's at PHL Airport using the AtYourGate delivery service. The sandwich was hot and juicy. The peppers were sweet and not limp. The mushrooms were plentiful. Thanks!
