Slightly more expensive than some others in K-Town, but the quality is here through and through. Service is always friendly and professional, and though I'm not a huge Bi Bam Bap fan, (it's like the Korean version of Pad Thai) it's so good here. Highly recommend this location or for a slightly quieter and suave experience, go to their Beverly Hills spot. Same menu, same prices.

This is a great Korean bbq with super friendly service. This is a high end Korean restaurant. It is still authentic, but offers better service than typical K town hole in the wall places that offer good food and low prices but horrible service no atmosphere. We loved the beef and the soups were amazing. You don't even need to know Korean food to love this place.

Good side dishes (banchan). That's probably what this place is best known for. It's what makes them stand out compared to all the other Kbbq places. Their bbq is good but I prefer others in Ktown. We ordered combo A and shared it between 3 girls and it was way more than enough food for all of us. They are super kid friendly! They give you rice and small soup with seaweed (geem) and a plastic cup for the kids at no charge! They also give the kids a few Korean candy after the meal. Probably the most kid friendly KBBQ I've ever been to! The kids were loving it!

This is a must go place. We had kimchi soup, Galbi and another dish of angus beef. The display of side dishes was amazing. Me and my husband enjoyed it so much. I had plum soju as I missed it so much. It’s really great food.

My girlfriends and I went in with really high expectations as we were from out of town and have only heard good things about the Korean food in LA's K-town. All our expectations were surpassed. James, our waiter was very attentive and very thorough. Although the restaurant was busy he would come often enough to flip the meats and made sure everything was okay at all times. The food was excellent, all 26 side dishes were prepared well. Will definitely come back on my next trip to LA.

We have been wanting to take Korean BBQ for a spin ever since we moved to Korea town, but were a little scared. I heard this place was a little more expensive then some of the local places but the quality was worth it and I haven't been any where else but I am picky about quality of meat and I loved it! We had a course A and a couple of drinks and it was such a good time. We had a few different people check on us id we needed refills and how every thing tasted or if we even wanted more meat. The only problem we had was we were so full we couldn't finish our soup and salad and didn't leave room for desert. If you have been wanting to dip your toes into KBBQ I would definitely recommend it.

This is a great restaurant to take your children - even the picky eaters. There are a lot of things to try. The waiters cook the meat at the table giving the kids something to watch while waiting.

This establishment is gaining popularity among young crowds in Los Angeles area very quickly. Even some visitors from other states and countries are now aware of this establishment. It seems to me that this restaurant raised (or set) the bar how Korean dishes (including small side dishes) should be served with a good service. Interior is well designed and has the modern look (not a typical Korean pictures and accessories on the wall). Their foods are descent but either a little saltier or sweeter side (particularly Pork Galbi stew "") . I am very impressed with their wait staff who do cook Korean BBQ or any meats on the grill for customers. That really saves from foods smell to embedd into customers' clothes. Lastly, I am impressed with their simple and nice touch for kids. If you bring little ones, you can simple ask for bowl of rice and a simple soup for your kids (free of charge). At the end of the meal, you will be surprised by a small medical pill like wet napkin (or small towel to be exact) and a big size lollipop. Those are nice touches as well. I visited multiple times and always have a pleasant dining experience except a long waiting line (worthy to wait!). * Service: Good (during peak hours, you might have to call or remind your wait staff once more) * Price: With the high-end like service, nice ambience, and well presented dishes (including side dishes), their price is highly reasonable * Atmosphere: Modern look and a little dark inside of the restaurant (in case you prefer bright lighted ambience) * Food Quality: Good (not super authentic as they like to accommodate non-Korean customers' taste but still pleasant and enjoyable taste by Koreans as well) * Parking: Valet parking is available (was $6 expensive!) or street parking by your own risk * Avoid factor: Week nights and weekends, there will be a long wait (it can be longer than 1 hour). * Recommendation: Call ahead to make a reservation (must), asking for the restaurant wait staff for what each side dish name and what contains, avoid peak hours

After my previous experience with Korean BBQ a couple years back I had been craving for more when I visited America, after considering all the Korean BBQ in LA I decided to go to Genwa and oh boy was I not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and the side dishes that accompanied the meal was fantastic, overall the food was extremely good and full of flavour, the quality of meat was very good and well marinated. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and Genwa was probably one of the top 3 places I had dined in my 2 weeks stay in California.

My daughter treat the whole family for my birthday and we really had fun last night. The food is very good and they have a lot of side dishes. Our waiter Daniel is very attentive, caring and funny. Prices are really high but worth for a good meal. I strongly recommend this restaurant.

Great food. The combo platter for three Is a must. Banchan. Beef tasted v good. Service good. Reasonably priced.

In LA for the weekend & thought this would be THE place to partake of Korean Bar BQ since it is one of our favorite ethnic cuisines & that there was no shortage of Korean restaurants to choose from. The restaurant was extremely clean, the waiter was friendly & attentive, & gave us a history of Korean culture when questions were asked. Numerous side dishes, tasty miso soup; high quality prime Galbi and pork bulgogi and side sauces were tasty as well. Glad we went but probably would not be a repeat customer. Good restaurant but not a truly memorable meal. Will search for another Korean restaurant next time we're in L A. Would give Genwa a 7 on a one time experience.

Best Korean BBQ in Los Angeles on every aspect! Great food, great service, great energy, wonderful all around!

I'm not sure what the great reviews were all about. I came in today Dec 2021, they placed us to a small table that was very dark that we could barely saw the menu ( also so we could not see how much fat the meat was). We could barely see how well the food was cooked. Their beef tasted ok, just like any other korean BBQ place but one dish here is worth twice the whole bill at another place. The little side dishes were not good at all. I didnt see that many people on a Sunday night, go figure.

Don't be put off by the dark decor and poor lighting and venture inside. If you do, you will enjoy a superb Korean BBQ. Yes, its not cheap, but the quality of the food justifies it. worth a visit. We are looking forward to returning very soon.

we chose genwa for a couple of reasons, one being that our old standard, a more casual, hole-in-the-wall spot closer to downtown in LA's K-town, apparently closed since we've moved from LA. i'd read great reviews about genwa on other sites, so gave it a try while visiting friends. in a word, it's terrific! particularly if you are not an expert (i'm not) on korean BBQ, their upbeat, friendly, young waitstaff is very helpful, more than able to make recommendations, and are knowledgeable about each of the approximately 30 small side dishes (many i'd not seen before) that arrive with your meal. we ordered a standard combination for three people (there are combos offered for 2, 3 and 4 or more people, plus vast à la carte choices), which offered a marvelous variation of dishes and meats, and included a bottle of soju (order Hite beer in liter bottles to share, too!). meats and seasonings were rich and perfect, and all of those side dishes make each bite you have a different and exciting taste. the waitstaff even reminds you that if you have any favorite side dishes, just ask for more, as they are unlimited. another positive is that it may be one of the closest, non-touristy korean BBG spots to LA's tony west side, where we tend to stay, but has none of it pretensions. the restaurant is lovely and comfortable, costs were better than fair, particularly for the wonderful food and service, and parking is in the same building, just behind the restaurant. we lucked into a table just showing up on a tuesday evening, so i'd make reservations next visit, a visit i look forward to making.

Food was good, and the place is good for business meetings, but still could not think of rating it 5/5. A bit overpriced, nothing exceptional, even if overall a good place

Although the quality of the beef was above par, there are many other better Korean places than this joint for half the price. Service was rushed and uncaring. No special reason to come back..

As someone new to Korean food, I found Genwa to be a great introduction. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the many side dishes were a nice way for a newcomer to sample and learn what we like best. The beef was excellent, well marbled and tasty. My only, small issue was with the metal chopsticks, which I found to be too slick and uncomfortable. Looking forward to returning to Genwa.

We have been to Korea and this is a great way of having real Korean food in LA. Beautifully presented and tastful. The service is great, there to help befor you need it. Have the Bulgogi it is a must and you will not regret it!

Good was delicious, from prime beef to the small side dishes. The bar area was quite small given the wait for our large party, but it was overall a great time.

We ordered 2 meat dishes but all the side dishes kept coming - there were 24 side dishes for 2 people! The beef was absolutely phenomenal. Would definitely go back when I visit LA again.

Visiting from Australia. Went there with 2 of my daughters one of whom lives in LA and she swears by Genwa. I can see why. Food, service and value excellent.it is very very popular with locals now so bookings essential. One of the best meals we have had in LA regardless of price.Just hope other tourists do not find it.

Fabulous ban chan, especially the steamed egg. Wagyu beef was fabulous. Kimchi chigae was rich and flavorful. Great service but don't be shy to slow them down. They are too efficient at times. They happily slowed down with us. Go there and enjoy. Can't wait to get back.

Food - excellent. Unquestionably delicious and definitely something to cater to all tastes. The entire concept was fascinating and a true experience. Service - given the nature of Korean BBQ it's a very intimate service and as a result it was excellent. Our server was polite and explained things to us. Cost - very high. I'm not going to hide this fact, you will easily spend 50$ a head so be prepared for that. Consider this an experience and not just a meal out! Overall - couldn't recommend more highly. I suggest you get a set package as these are well designed and work out at good value.

We were going to an event in Koreatown, and wanted something special for dinner before. Genwa fit the bill. A lovely space, everything about it was amazing. Great service- I have a gluten issue, and when the server brought over the 22(yes, 22!) traditional sides, she unerringly was about to separate out the ones that were safe for me to eat. The meal also came with soup and some sort of side I was unable to get a name for. The bi mim bap was the best we'd ever had. We also has a sautéed assortment of mushrooms that were to die for. So impressed. We didn't have Korean BBQ, but several tables near us did and that looked delicious as well.

Korean BBQ we do enjoy and we visited this branch as it is close to where we are staying. The food is acceptable but the Genwa located on La Cieniga serves better meatin the Bulgogi serves better meat, The meat served at the Wilshire Branch is served as scrap with too much fat.

Best food, great service and awesome place. Definitely the best restaurant in the neighbourhood no doubt.

We have visited Genwa twice and both times were excellent. They give you several side dishes, allowing you to sample lots of new Korean food. They were extremely catering to our children by giving them child friendly chopsticks, Frozen character plates, and lollipops following lunch. It's a little pricier than other Korean restaurants, but well worth it. The experience is fun (you can cook at your table if you like) and the service is excellent.

I liked the food especially the beef and shrimp, a very tasty soup. But i was not sure what was wrong with the crew, there were like breaking glasses and dishes. Anyway, you should try it for food, the rest becomes your fun.

Before our entree made its appearance, the wait staff loaded the entire table with 25 delicious side dishes. Freshly steamed egg custard, beef stew, marinaded blood clams, clear white seaweed, stewed beef and on and on and on. The staff did all the BBQ for us. We nibbled on all the sides, ate our BBQd meats and drank a hot bowl of Korean miso tofu soup. Everything was fresh, the sauces were spot on, and the space is modern yet cozy. Worth the money.

We are from Italy and we have been today for lunch and really enjoyed everything: the place, service and food (galbi udon, soon-tofu, beef dumplings)! An additional positive thing for us was the kids' menu (bowl of rice, soup and seaweed and my 2 years old daughter simply loved it and had it all!). We strongly recommend this place :-) A minor dislike: it should be mentioned in the parking that the fee is $3.

We visited while on vacation with our family. The restaurant is small. The hostess was very mice and we got a table really fast. The waitress helped us with the menu and we ordered a meal for two and three separate dishes. When the food started to come, we were surprised by the amount of side dish choices...so many. We had a salad, soup, about 15 mini sides, rice, and the beef to barbecue. And that didn’t include the other three dishes..lots of food for sure. We had Korean barbecue before, but not with so many side dishes. We really enjoyed it. The prices were a little expensive, but order cautiously. We could have ordered just the meal for three for the five of us. Great meal.

Although somewhat hiline, we found the waitstaff friendly and informative. We both had bulgogi. Many small side dishes included. Beef was tasty but the soup was blah. Practice with chop sticks beforehand.

This was my first time at a Korean BBQ restaurant, and it was a great experience. My wife and I were visiting from Chicago to visit out son, who lives in LA. The food was plentiful and delicious and the atmosphere was really fun and enjoyable. The wait staff was fantastic, especially our server Jenny, who helped us choose our menu items (and the soju!) and explained what everything was that we were eating. Enthusiastic 5 stars, and I think we will make this restaurant part of every visit out here to visit!

Here for lunch today with a co-worker, She had the mackerel and I had the beef (be-be-bok) spelled wrong I'm sure - both were excellent and the sides they bring are excellent as well, you get about 15 different small sides and they will refill them if you ask. The soup that came with the meal was excellent as well. Staff was great. Would go back again!

We visit Los Angeles with some regularity and are always on the lookout for a good Korean restaurant. We have eaten at many in Koreatown. We got to Genwa simply by googling Korean restaurants in LA and were able to see their menu online. We don't eat shrimp, pork or beef which limits us quite a bit since most Korean restaurants predominantly serve those items. Genwa had a number of chicken and vegetable dishes to choose from. Its most unusual feature is the twenty-two small side dishes that come with the meal - even for two people. All of them were delicious, especially their preparation of lotus root. There were refills if you wanted them. We had a vegetable and rice hot pot and marinated chicken for our main courses. Everything was very fresh and piping hot temperature wise. The dishes were as spicy as we wanted them. One of the dishes came with a salad which was very lightly dressed in a dressing with a hint of sesame oil. The meal was scrumptious. The wait staff was helpful and friendly. The service was attentive. We are looking forward to our next visit to Genwa.

Great service, food was wonderful! The little dishes - each one was exciting to try (even if we didn't like all of them). The staff was professional and helpful. We would definitely recommend this for a great representation of Korean food.

We selected this place to host my sister-in-law's birthday. This wasn't the first time eating here because the last experience we had was great. Food was good and the waiters and waitresses always came by to help. The only downfall is, when they came to sing Happy Birthday, more than 80%of their staff didn't know the name of the Birthday girl and there was a awkward silence. The people that did get the name were tipped. I know their Wangan beef is expensive but it's worth it the first time for experience.

The service and food were first class and this is the most refined of all Korean restaurants in LA that I have been to--- portions right, great choices, lots of explanation and constant attention when you need it

There was a wait on Saturday night and our group waited for about an hour and it was worth it. They offered a lot of side dishes and the combos offer more food than number of person suggested. There was four of us and we went with combo C for 3 people and the quantity of food exceed our expectation ( combo also comes with soju). The quality of food and services are excellent as well. We loved it and would be back again.

Great food and service will be back again! Highly reccomended. Nice restaurant good with group of people

If nothing else, we were impressed by the sheer volume of ban-chan (side dishes) here. Food was pretty delicious and the restaurant look nice. Los Angeles has a lot of great Korean food, so we are happy we got to try one! Next time, we will try a few more.

Crowded and very friendly place. Very yummy food and wine. We ordered Bulgogi prepared by the kitchen which was somewhat sweet and very tasty. We got a pancake that we hadn't ordered. We thought it was part of the meal but we ended up paying 30$ for something we didn't order...

this was the best Korean food I have ever eaten the USA, the meats were juicy and soft, the appetizers were simply delicious. Do what you have to eat here. It is a privelage.

This place has the best Korean BBQ I have ever had (and I live in Korean town and have tried many places). It can be a little bit Americanized but the food is amazing. The meat is of very high quality, and there are numerous side dishes! High recommend the course meals! You and your party would definitely be full having the course meal! Do note this place is not a cheaply ayce BBQ place but you pay what you get!

Make sure you call in a reservation. This is a very busy place. The good news is that once we were seated the service was excellent! Since this was our first time, we ordered the most popular combination A. for two ($60.00). Next time we'll probably share an appetizer and one of the Korean BBQ. Both the Galbi Prime and the Bulgogi were excellent so it will be hard to chose between them. Also, our waiter Vincent was patient, helpful and thoroughly professional.

Visited this place last weekend. We shared a Kal Bi lunch. The quantity was a little less than what I had expected, but the quality totally made it up. The Kal Bi meat is probably the best I ever had. All the little Korean side dishes were also very good. Service was also above average. This is one of the few restaurants that I can say "Can't wait to go back again." Well, too bad I am living in N California.

Great quality food, great service- what more can you ask for?? Didn't find the place to be smokey at all (despite all the in table bbqs). Bring tons of friends to share- the more the merrier! You won't be disappointed!

Some of the best Korean food I’ve had outside of Seoul. Meat is BBQ’ed at your table. Huge variety of side dishes. Friendly and helpful staff. Well laid out restaurant, nicely decorated. Parking on the nearby side streets is limited to an hour. We were told parking enforcement is strict so make sure to move your car after an hour

Mojita's are made with Cuban rum and not a Korean liquor knock off that tastes atrocious. Do not sell mediocre classes of Chardonnay that should be flushed. Get someone in the Bar who is not going to sell a bad product or don't bother

You will love this place if you love Korean BBQ. I think my favorite thing was the bimnbap, but truly everything we ordered was excellent. The service is quick and it seems to be a very popular place to eat. I have been here 3 times and have never been disappointed!

The restaurant offers a unique assortment of Korean appetizers and barbecue the meat on your table. The food is tasty and unique and offers a nice experience. I guess that is why they prices are high. The meal could take some time since you start with the large number of small appetizer dishes then they bring the raw meat to be cooked in front of you. Some meat cuts could include unchewable fat ...they do not trim it carefully. Some meat comes wrapped around the bone ribs which is basically a waste of cooking...since no one will eat bones or the tough meat around the bones. This makes some parts of the meat non tender. It’s a nice experience but l wish they could do a better job trimming the fat/undesirable parts of the meat specially for the high prices they charge.

It was upscale korean with delicious side dishes, excellent meat quality order the prime Galbi. Great to take guests funny to see American bartender and manager at a korean place. Excellent service!

Had to wait about 30minutes to get a table, but its nice to sit in bar so the wait was ok. We ordered the smallest sharing course and for the two of us that was more than enough. Nice detail with small bbq on each table, and lots of variety to choose amongst. Some of the food can be a bit spicy so ask the waiter if you don't fancy a spicy meal, but I loved the spicy tofu soup. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the fact that the meat was prepared on the table. Service was good and the price for what we got was ok.

I can’t help but feel that if you want to go for a Korean bbq half of the fun is that you cook the food yourself at your table. Here the food is cooked at your table by the waiter who takes over as chef. On the plus side you don’t get your hands dirty but on the minus side your cloths smell of the cooking food and you don’t get to have fun cooking it. For me this takes away the point of a Korean bbq but if you want to have the bbq cooked for you then you will enjoy Genwa. The meat is very high quality which you would expect as you’re paying Beverley Hills prices. The service was very good and the restaurant has valet parking.

Service is so much better compared to typical Korean BBQ restaurant in Koreatown. Also not so chaotic. Food is good but I would not say the best. Maybe because I didn't order the beef since my guest don't take beef. Banchan was plenty but I prefer the banchan at Soban, which taste fresher. Another plus here is that you will not come out smelly... Oh, and valet parking is easy.

Seriously, I love Korean BBQ. Genwa was the best of both worlds - amazing Korean BBQ and simply spectacular service. It may be one of my must goes when in LA. What a wonderful experience! Do not miss this place. It is as advertised.

It’s my second visit in 3 years and the place and the food are just as great and tasty as I remembered. This time it was a lunch appointment and the service was perfect and the dishes tasty and fresh. I will definitely come back for an other meal when next time in LA.

We tried Genwa during our brief downtown LA stay and ordered the Combo D meal for beef lovers. We had four cuts of beef, I couldn't pronounce the names, but the cuts were excellent, short ribs were great and the kids were picking up the smallest marinated sliced beef scraps off the grill at the end. We ordered an extra plate of glass noodles which were also very good. The servers were efficient and also took time to explain how to use the pickled radish slices as wraps around the beef dipped in miso or spicy sauce. We also tried Soju (an alcoholic rice spirit) with a squirt of lemon, which goes really well with beef. Genwa is a little bit farther away from where we were staying compared to other Korean BBQ places, but definitely well worth the trip!

The food, overall was excellent, some of the most delicious little appetizers I've ever had at a Korean bbq place. Especially the braised beef. It's marinated in a lightly sweet soy-based sauce and cooked for hours (I imagine). The end result is a dish served cold but the beef melts in your mouth.

This restaurant was a fun experience and the food was very good. The variety of sauces and vegetarian options was great!

I always admire people who give their best doing their job. The waiters of this restaurant were a perfect example of this. You know they know their craft when you do everything to the tee (explain what is on the menu, show the proper way to grill, even up grilling the bbq meat for you). This, plus the amazing food? 5 stars! They deserve it.

Our entire family loved eating at this restaurant on a recent trip to LA. We ordered the combination dinners for 4 and for 3 for our party of 7. Plenty of food for us. The sides were fun to try and the beef was excellent.

Such an amazing experience... Definitely one of the best Korean food ever... The quality of the food was amazing and the service... Can't have enough...

We wanted to experience Korean BBQ while in Los Angeles but were seeking someplace a bit nicer and less "intimidating" than the super hole in the wall places. We might have erred too much toward caution, as this place was kind of bland. The service was not really friendly at all. We weren't sure if we cook ourselves or the staff does (turns out the staff does). Overall this was a bit blah. I wish we had gone someplace in Koreatown.

We were lucky to get seated - came Sat.night and wait was 1.5hours, they don't take reservations,so we came back for Sunday brunch, still packed but we managed to get a seat. I'm sure the BBQ is amazing but we stuck to veggie/seafood options. The tofu bi bim bap and seafood soontofu were excellent. Tons of delicious savory banchan side dishes too. Can't wait to go back!

The all that you can eat is amazing! The food is at such a high quality that you can eat so much of it but you must not order more than you can eat because then you get charged for left over food. A Must Go!!!!!

We visited Genwa based on recommendation of a friend who used to live in LA. We arrived before 6 on a Thurs night and didn't have to wait. Knowing that we'll get 20 small dishes, we only ordered one order of Kalbi to share between the two of us. The Kalbi order also came with a salad and a steamed egg dish. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and got to ask for refill of the small dishes that we liked. The Kalbi was marinated perfectly and the meat was super tender. I only wish there's a Korean place with the same quality at my home town.

●Price:$$$, 4 star. ● Ambiance: friendly, trendy, clean, 4+ star ● location: safe area, near the groves, museum road, miracle miles neighborhood. 4 star. ● Meals: excellent,4+ star ● Service: excellent, 4+ star We came here on a Sunday night... The place was full but not too bad. Tried to dine here before but It was always packed. We called ahead this time but still waited for 20 min... The food is worth of the wait! We got combo A including Kalbi and bulgogi, 24 plus choices of side dishes, egg soup and kimchee tofu soup, rice, clear noodle with veggie and salad! Everything was tasty and high quality. We also got chocolate raspberry ice cream and coconut mango sorbet which was delicious! The servers were attentive and pleasant. At the end of the meal, there was sweet rice drink to clean your palate and hot towels to clean up! Everything was perfect to detail. The restaurant is well ventilated... smoke free... so you don't come out smell like BBQ! Our bill came out about $100 including tax, tips, drinks, combo A for 2 and 2 deserts... which is not too shabby! We definitely will come back and will recommend this place to our friends and family!

Found this place on Yelp and the rating is well deserved - it was amazing! It's so new and modern looking inside, everyone was dressed in black gave the place a very clean feel. It was relatively easy to find and there was parking in the back I think it was free but dont quote me on that We sat down as a group of 4 and were starved so we tried our best not to over order. I've been to other korean/japanese bbq places in Vancouver but this was next level. We ordered a variety of meats - the chicken gets served cooked for you because of health codes they don't allow you to cook chicken yourself. I was ok with that because I was enjoying the food too much to want to cook anything LOL or wait for it to be ready. The dishes you order come with a ton of banchan (side dishes) to complement your meat dishes. We also ordered a bibim-bap that came out piping hot and even after she prepped it for us it didn't dry out like other places I've tried. You could just tell the food here was high quality and everything tasted fresh! Service was spot on - food came out quickly and the servers checked on us to make sure they were clearing any dishes that we were finished with. So glad this popped up in our yelp search we will definitely be back next time we're in LA oh and on your way out they give you these cute little coloured lollipops on long long sticks. pretty much all sugar but a very unique treat!

Wanted to find a korean bbq in LA. Read a lot of reviews about it so I gave it a try. It was a real nice experience. The price was a lot more than most places I have been but, the quality of the meat was very good. They also give you 20 side dishes, soup, and salad. I had the prime galbi and kobe rib eye. Both were great. Service was also nice. This is a place I will return too.

Hosted my friends for a farewell dinner that was the best Korean Restaurant I have ever been to. The service was excellent. Plenty of attention and good humor. We ordered the set menu and let it happen. There were more sides than I have ever seen. It was a feast for the senses, a total delight and a huge amount of food, attractively served and presented. The restaurant was immaculate and modern. Every nuance was just right. If you want the best, go here.

My family and a friend came here for lunch. It was a family style meal where they bring a set of side dishes and main courses. Although there was quite a variety of food, the quantity didn't seem enough for a party of 5 ~ 2 of which were kids ages 17 & 14. To me, for spending $150 it was more a kin to a grand sampler of sorts, but not enough to feel satisfied for a meal. The portions were so small divided up for 5 persons. I barely ate anything in fear that my kids and our family guest wouldn't have enough to eat. It was a novel experience but not something I would do again for that price. There are a many places in L.A. that would get you good food and good quantity for $150.

Genwa_ a restaurant with Korea BBQ.. I very pleased with the service and food. We ordered 2 meat dishes but all the side dishes kept coming - there were 24 side dishes for 2 people! The beef was absolutely phenomenal. Would definitely go back when I visit Genwa again.

I was told this was a good restaurant if you aren't Korean, I'm not but the experience was surprisingly good. Lots of Asian eating there. It's a contemporary atmosphere with a contemporary Korean presentation. Food is fresh and a very good value!

This place is a hidden gem. The BBQ is outstanding. The staff is friendly and kind. I would definitely recommend it.

One thing that always make me think twice about going to Korean BBQ was the smell. Genwa's ventilation is great. It just smells like any other regular restaurants, not that overwhelming BBQ smell. Oh, by the way the food is EXCELLENT!!!!! The best Korean BBQ I have ever had.

Seems like so many people like Genwa, perhaps because they think they SHOULD follow the trend. I found it mediocre at best. Over priced. Trendy. Bland at times and over salted at other times. The worst part was I heard the manager-owner make disparaging remarks to one the busboys. Terrible.

Delicious dinner which really impressed and delighted. Lots of side dishes, which were topped up no problems on request. We called ahead to book table on TA writers suggestions. Good idea! Still we were 4th in line on an early Saturday evening. Good service. Not cheap for the set dinner we had, which had different beef cuts and seafood. Bill came to usd220, including 2 beers

Although a little pricey and no reservations taken, this place is excellent. I always go with family and try to go at an off-time, like late afternoon for dinner around 3-4 p.m. The banchan is excellent, and the staff will replenish whatever you like. The portion size is good for the BBQ options.

This is one of my favorite Korean BBQ restaurants. It has great food. I enjoyed the beef brisket and the kobe beef. Also the side dishes are awesome. The service was terrific. Very energetic atmosphere. The bar is awesome too with a tv and a great place to grab a drink while waiting for your table. While they normally do not take reservations, they do take reservations for large groups. We had two parties here and we were in the private rooms. It was fantastic and stress free! They have valet parking in the back for $5.

Not having ever sampled Korean cuisine, we were in for a real treat at lunch time at the Genwa Korean BBQ. Casting a quick glance around the other tables, we saw many oriental faces among the guests. That in itself was a great testament for a start! We ordered spicy pork, spicy chicken dishes and barbecued seafood. The accompaniments were just fantastic. The waitress helped us choose our dishes and then enabled the barbecue of the fish. This is done over a gas fired chargrill at the table. We washed it down with bottle of delightfully sweet pomegranate wine (16% alcohol). The food was without doubt excellent and the service was well above par! I would easily and without hesitation give them full marks!

Never saw as many little plates that were all interesting and tasty, nice meat selection and reasonably priced. Avoid the tongue and order the brisket.

My brother, his partner, and I had the the BBQ meal for two (kalbi and bulgogi) plus an additional plate of shrimp, scallops, and lobster, but could have got away with just the meal for two (Genwa is quite generous with the little extras that come with every Korean meal). Everything was incredibly fresh. We enjoy doing our own cooking (the tables have built-in braziers), but we could also have sat back and let the waiter do it all-- the wait-staff are very well-trained and their timing is perfect (magically reappearing just as the meat needs turning over). Thumbs up for food, service, and a pleasant ambience. Only drawback is that the air does get a bit smoky when all the braziers are blazing away-- unavoidable, I guess, but somewhat offset by good ventilation and the wooden partitions between the rooms.

The restaurant was a bit dark and dingy looking to me, could have been made more comfortable looking. But that is quickly forgotten as we turn to the food. By the way the valet parking behind the restaurant is good if you are driving in The beef, chicken and pork BBQ which we ordered for variety are all simply great and sumptuous, along with the myriad side dishes as accompaniment. And the Bulgogi is equally a good additional dish to go with the rest Overall it was a good choice of Korean food on offer. Lunch time offers good value as prices are discounted.

Best Bibimbap ever had and also the most expensive This place is definitely not a cheap eats restaurant and really meant for Korean bbq Having said that we had a great meal and the side dishes were a lot and all different kinds and they were replenished for us Could not finish the meal Very friendly staff

I stayed in LA for 5 days & all 5 days, we have been eating just Korean. Looked the review from Yelp & started to trying out so called "BEST" in LA. We went there on Monday during Lunch and it was worth your money & your trip. I normally give 4 the best but I can't help giving 5 stars on this place. Food was GREAT! and SERVICE was amazing. We all know we don't get that friendly services from Asian restaurants but this place, I can give two thumps up. Quality & the price was pretty good compare to other places we tried. We didn't want to pay $35 for Korean BBQ per person. I wish I can open one of them in Austin, TX.... I will be rich! ***BTW, at the end, they bring this little tablet looks like Altoids. It is not! so don't eat it! It is a hand towel but as soon as the server pours hot water, it changes to a marshmallow. We laughed so hard watching this. Great food, great service & good laugh... can't beat that!

We are visiting from Toronto and thought this was the best kbbq place we had ever been to. Meat was marinated well and beef quality was excellent. The bibimbap was tasty and the selection of banchan was amazing. Pricing is competitive and service was nice considering an usually busy Wednesday evening. This is the next best thing to mom's home kbbq!

Visited this place last summer with my father when we were in LA visiting on a holiday. One day we decided we wanted to eat Korean food so I picked up TripAdvisor to find one and decided on this restaurant as it was close to our hotel and had good reviews. I can say we were not dissapointed, good food and very nice staff that helped us all the way as we are not used to order at Korean restaurants as you usually don't order entre, main, dessert as you do in other restaurants.

This food is authentic, well prepared and delicious. You have to be prepared to eat much because there were several side dishes with the set meal. However, unless you have a big party they don't take reservations so you may have to wait for a table.

Their korean bbq is one of the best i’ve ever tastes and their portion according to me is just fulfilling to the point where you can’t eat anymore

Stop by this place for lunch at couple of days ago. We love everything about this place. From veggie-cold dishes, salads , steam eggs , Yummy juicy beef plus outstanding stir fried squid. We enjoyed awesome services, great food, nice ambience. Highly recommended this place . 👍👍👍

This place was AWESOME! We had just landed in LA and wanted to make this our first stop. We did not anticipate it being busy, but we were told we had an hour wait (which we definitely did not wait more than 30 minutes). Sat at the bar to wait, had drinks and some dumplings. We saw everyone rave about the 22 sides so we got one of the dinner combos on the back of the menu and it was great! Came with salad, short ribs, and bulgogi - all cooked in front of us! Also ordered rice wine and the red pepper sauce rice cakes (teboukkeh??? Spelling may be wrong, but DELICIOUS!!) Menu is pricey but definitely worth it!!!

Very friendly service, and plenty if willing help in learning about all the garnishes/appetizers. The multi course meals are a great value and fun to share! highly recommend! Can't wait to bring my wife back with me next time!

This is great upscale Korean bbq. They have many choices and the portions are plentiful. The sides, so many tasty sides. We ordered the 3 person combo and it would have easily fed 4. The staff is super friendly and attentive. This is definitely a trendy hotspot and they only take reservations for parties over 7pp. Wait times are generally over an hour but it is worth the wait.

Despite being far from Koreatown, this is probably the best KBBQ I've had. Food and service were both great. Parking is usually rough in this neighborhood but it's especially easy with a valet in the garage.

I had my birthday lunch here with a dozen of my friends. Had so much fun pigging out and taking shots while grilling up delicious pork belly and bulgogi! Will definitely be back wearing stretch pants as the portions are large and they keep the banchan (side dishes) flowing--we easily got 3 refills on our little plates. weeeee i love genwa!

Extremely Brilliant Authentic Korean Food. Excellent Service. The staff is mostly Korean and they are very helpful and very humble. A place must to visit to enjoy Korean Food

Came in for a late weekend lunch, and was seated right away. However, it took a solid 10 minutes for a server to acknowledge us and even serve us drinks. Definitely frustrating especially when the servers pass your table to serve others, and the dining room isn't even a third full. Cha Dol - The thinly sliced beef brisket was marked as Australian Wagyu, and while it certainly had fantastic marbling out the gate, it was not as tasty as you'd expect. It was not as tender as other Korean BBQ restaurants, let alone AYCE places where the quality of meat may not be great. Disappointing. Beef Bibimbap - They put it all together table side in a sizzling clay pot. The crispy rice added a great texture, and the fried rice was definitely vibrant in color. However, it fell flat in flavor, especially since the vegetables tasted old. They simply did not seem fresh. The side dishes were better than most places, but in all the food left more to be desired. With all Korean restaurant options in the immediate area, I'll be looking elsewhere next time!

Wonderful assortment of condiments for this special Korean restaurant. All sorts of Umami's going on in different small bowls of food. The Beef is top quality. Service was excellent. Wish this place was closer so I could enjoy it more often. Beautiful dinning room.

went here with 6 ppl for the first meal in LA for our holiday. we need to wait for around 40 mins as we didnt have any reservation . try their samgyupsal and pancake, it is awesome. their beef bbq is also very good. services are great as well. LA do have a lot of authentic korean restaurants in Korean town.

I've been here twice this month. I've been looking for another place besides Park, Chosun Galbee, Soot Bull Jeep, among others. Writers comment that these restaurants are good and good places for non-Koreans to go to, but my casual observations have been that while that may be true, it is also true that Koreans and Korean-Americans go to these places too. In fact, there appear to be many families' traditions of going to these places and across generations. As a person who lived in Korea for many years and who has eaten at many Korean restaurants there, in Los Angeles, and around the world (Madrid, Tokyo, Okinawa, Hong Kong, Paris, New York, as examples), the ones I've listed are first rate in my opinion, and Genwa joins that group for excellence in taste, menu choices, management, and service. Right now, it is my favorite. I've tried "C" on the menu, and I've ordered Bibimbap and a partner ordered Galbee. The banchan come in about 20 very small dishes that provide diners with a taste of many outstanding tidbits--black beans, kimchee, cucumber, radish, spinach, bean sprouts, anchovies, potato salad, and much more. Their website includes their menu and the choices, so I recommend using that site to get acquainted with the restaurant. Any side dish can be refilled upon request, which happens quickly and readily. They have very good drinks like sayuri and pitchers and bottles of beer. The place is in mid-Wilshire Los Angeles, west of Koreatown: 5115 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036. I've parked on Wilshire both times, which makes this very convenient for driving. English is spoken fluently; the hostess is American English-speaking and so are most wait staff, so I cannot imagine ever a misunderstanding for Korean-limited (or non-Korean) speakers. Korean food is one of the world's great cuisines, and Genwa is exemplary in its version.

Was there to go for korean bbq and was not disappointed at all. Despite living in asia for quite a while and visiting korea on a regular basis, these folks have lived up to the expectations. Wagyu ribeye beef so tasty that i still get a smile on my face...:-) also you get a lot more side dishes than in korea that is a bonus as well. Waiters where very helpful, customer oriented and friendly. Strong recommendation if you are in need of high quality korean food in la!

I had never been to Genwa and my friend had raved about it. He said it was a bit expensive but well worth it. When we walked in, the place was crowded - a good sign. We had to wait 10-15 minutes for lunch during the lunch hour. I immediately noticed a strong chemical smell. My friend also noticed it. So we waited outside for our table. My guess is the odor was from strong cleaning supplies. We hoped with spicy food in the eating area the scent would dissipate. It do not and for me it was distracting. While we were eating there was loud bang in in the back. We learned they had workmen either pounding on a door they were fixing or they were working on a heating unit. Either way, this is the type of thing that should take place after hours not while patrons are paying good money for food. This is not an inexpensive restaurant. The "soup" on the lunch menu ranges from $15-20. The presentation of the food was lovely and it was plentiful. Korean cuisine is not my favorite but it's fun once in a while. The environment, the cleaning chemicals and the banging is enough to deter me from returning.

We went here couple of years ago and wanted to come back again for their Bonchon. Only problem is that they are expen$ive. You have to order one dish per person so you cannot share a dish. Bonchons were still good as we remembered but after looking the bill we could of done better since we like finding places having good deals and done have to spend $$$. Oh, valet parking only.

My wife and I had the dumplings, makerel and edamame and were pleased with the service and food. I thought it was a bit expensive for what we received.

Good restaurant .. and excellent atmosphere .. Waiters service was good ... and the food is great....

Writing this review I’m reminded that I too often give 5 stars for a very good vs. an exceptional meal, which is what our we enjoyed at Genwa. Our extended family, 6 adults and 5 children, were treated to a Korean BBQ feast of high quality meats (including Bulgogi, Kobe Ribeye and short ribs) cooked at our table. This was accompanied by multiple side dishes that created a dining experience that was one of the highlights of our visit to LA. The decor is a bit unassuming, but our waiter was super - helpful and friendly- made us feel very comfortable. Recommend!

I came to LA for a few nights and stumbled upon Genwa. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was to die for. I loved the kimchee and the green tea icea cream. It was the absolute best meal I have ever had. I enjoyed the whole dinning experience. The food just kept coming and coming. I had a good window seat too and was able to people/car watch outrside. I can't wait to go back!

This place is not an "all you can eat place" It is a traditional korean restaurant that serves really great tasting Korean BBQ. Prices reflect that. I love this place because the meat here are not cheap cuts, but prime cuts that you can taste. The other Koreans Dishes are also very good. I have been to many Korean Restaurants in my life time. I know what good taste like and mediocre tastes like. This place is my favorite. I come at least once a week to get good Korean food. They also give you so many side dishes (ban chan). Great for large parties, families, and even couples. The service is good. They only issue may be the price. Four dishes will run about $100 dollars, I am willing to pay that price because I enjoy the food there.

Oh wow. We were a big group and we enjoyed every second. Superb food, we all probably ate more than we should have as we couldn't stop. Friendly staff, nice ambiance. Highly recommended.

I came here about 3 years ago because I love Korean food and wanted to try the KBBQ experience. It blew me (and my coworkers) away. Well I hadn't had the opportunity to make it back out to LA since until recently. As soon as I discovered that I was going back to LA, my sole dining mission was to make it back out to Genwa. I was not disappointed. As the pic indicates, the "kimchi" appetizers were aplenty. I went with the non-marinated steak on the suggestion of my waitress. Excellent choice! The seasoning was still flavorful. I also got the "sizzling" bi bim bop (rice bowl). My waitress did all of the work, turning the meat on the grill and serving me my bi bim bop in increments (a tad belittling, but I guess that is the experience, haha). The service and food were phenominal. I think it is a bit pricey, but I would still do it again. It's probably best that I don't live out in LA. I would probably be broke for this reason. I haven't been anywhere else in LA for Korean, so I cannot say "if you want the best Korean food in town, come to Genwa" as a guy that has sampled the wares. But as one who can speak to the level of continuity of service and quality over a big span of time, I can definitely say that Genwa is top-tier in that regard!

This is one of the cleanest korean bbq places I've ever been to. Not only is the restaurant super clean, they also have a fancy exhaust system where you leave the restaurant smelling the same way you went in there, very impressed. They don't take reservations, but put you on a wait list when you call. Going there on a Tues evening at 7pm, we had no wait. We ordered the $149 set course for 4 which comes with soju. They allowed us to substitute the soju for a pitcher of Kirin which was nice. The food came out fast, and the quality of the banchan and meat was top notch. Service was excellent. I am definitely a fan and will be coming back.

By far this is the best Korean food I ever had. The only downside I have to say is their prices are higher than anywhere else. The food quality and quantity they offered was good enough. The meat was tender and tasty, the atmosphere was great. If you are in LA, you have to try it!!!

This place had wonderfully bbq, servers that were very helpful ( as it was only my third time to Korean bbq and my moms first) but let me tell you the sheer number of side dishes( banchan) you get here is mind boggling. If your into trying many different flavors and textures of food their tasty sides are not to be missed. I think we had a total of 30 different ones.

I thought I'd tried the best in Korean having lived in NYC for many years and reveled in the wealth of Korean BBQ available there. But Genwa was a revelation. Not only for the vast array of little dishes that accompanied the BBQ (loved their white kimchee), but also in the quality of the meats offered. Four of us ordered the BBQ for 3 and it was more than enough, as evidenced by the doggy bag that went home with one of us. The service was constant and friendly as our waitress cooked the various meats on the grill. The late lunch included soup, salad and tea, as well as a mixed sake drink at the end of the meal and a cold sweet tea-ginger drink. This was probably the most expensive Korean BBQ that we've been to - the total bill was $150 including tip + 2 beers. But it was a special treat and worth it.

One of our friends that formally lived in Los Angeles found out we were going up to Beverly Hills for a few days and suggested Genwa as her favorite Korean restaurant. She raved about it. After we ate her for lunch we know why she loved it so much! The staff is SUPER friendly. They saw that we had young kids and really went the extra mile with them. This place is super kid friendly including giving them children's plates as well as special kids chopsticks that have a rubber band on it so they can actually use them. This is a great touch. The food was really great! The initial appetizer dishes never seemed to end. Most Korean places will give you 6 or 7 initial plates but Genwa had something like 24 initial appetizers! I had never been to a Korean restaurant where they gave you so many initial dishes. Our waiter told us to let him know if we needed ANY of them refilled. Sure enough, he came by several times and we had several of them refilled. The menu is quite extensive. We started off with the japchae which was really great. We got the lunch special of the Prime Kalbi and also an order of the bulgogi and they were both really delicious! The radish soup that came with it was also really great. We were so stuffed when we left! The restaurant itself is also nice. Something interesting is we were staying at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills and we noticed a sign that said that "Genwa is coming soon" across the street from the hotel. So it looks like they are either opening up another location soon or they are moving over to La Cienaga across the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills so keep this in mind and maybe call and ask them when they plan the move. There is a parking garage around the corner of the restaurant which is handy as the meters on the street are only 1 hour maximum. When we left, our waiter gave our kids several lollipops which they loved. As mentioned above, this place is super kid friendly as well as the food being excellent. I'd HIGHLY recommend this place and we will come to it EVERY time we come to LA.

Bibimbop was beautifully prepared and presented and was preceeded by a wide range of Korean appetizers and kimchis. Atmosphere is more deluxe that typical Korean BBQ restaurants.

The old saying "you get what you pay for" definantly applies here...it might be a little more spendy than other Korean places but the food and service are great...not to say that I don't LOVE a hectic smoky Korean all you can eat place...but Genwa is a great place to introduce someone to awesome food. The whole dinning experience is exceptional from welcoming staff to the super nice valet parking guy... From a culinary aspect everything was first rate from the beautifully marbled meats to the amazing array of over 20 bahncon , crispy little kim che dumplings, and chilly Hites{Korean beer}. I introduced my friend Kerala to Koean here 3 weeks ago and she's still talking about what a great experience it was!!!! Go and check it out!!!

I have been to many Korean restaurants but this place would have to be one of the best. It is definitely more upmarket with valet parking, servers who cook the food in front of you, and the prices to match. At times I felt a little rushed as the BBQ food was cooked a lot faster than we could eat. As we were a travelling couple we also felt the night would have been better with a few more friends or at least a table of 4 to share the bounty of food they provide for each table.

Not one of the best I have ever had, but certainly excellent. Not far from our hotel (Normandie) we tried this highly touted place. We got some 25 side dishes (most were very good) before the rest came. We had ordered 'A'. The service was superb, all the food (bbq'd beef with sauces) excellent except for the tofu soup; it was non-descript. For $50 (no alcohol) this was good value, too. The rooms were small and intimate. The location is in a cold office environment.

This Korean BBQ food are very good and fresh. Meat quality is super. Must try when you are in LA. Very friendly service and parking is easy just at the back of the restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant.

WE LIKED: Included appetizers and small desserts in the price of the dishes. The service was excellent. WE DISLIKED: The $3 valet parking. The chicken was really bad, poor cheap quality! The rest was ok, but definitely not worth the 23rd spot in LA. Prices are really high: $23 for a bad chicken dish.

One of the best Korean BBQ places we've been to. Clean and comfrey, with downdraft grills, so no cooking smells pervade the place. We got a set dinner for four with five types of meat including excellent wagyu beef and marinated galbi beef. Huge number of panchan, 20 dishes at least and table made bibimbap. Soju served with fresh squeezed lemon. Very helpful and friendly waitstaff, who also cook your order at you table grill. Fun and tasty experience. Worth a trip.

Chic dark decor, good service with no table bbq at lunch. We ordered classic Korean dishes and those came with close to 20 side vegetable dishes. And they were all good. Various kim chee= radish and napa cabbage, large bean sprouts, tiniest crispy fried fish and many more. These were unlimited. My bibimbap was served crispy at bottom. The beef Bulgogi and chicken bulgogi were all delicious, with soup and salad as well.

My coworker and I stopped there for dinner and the food was really good. I ordered Sam gyop sal which is Korean pork belly and not always found in Korean restaurants. The meat was well seasoned and well prepared. The side dishes were really good and they had everything from kimchi, radish kimchi, fish cakes, etc. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

First experience with Korean BBQ. Ordered the Course Meal for Three. The waiter suggested that this would be a good way to sample many types of Korean food. And what a lot of food! Three types of melt-in-your-mouth meat, salad or spicy miso soup, fried rice (get it crispy, which is cooked a little longer...yum), rice and radish papers that act like mini tortillas, and twenty-five or so small bowls of sides (kimchee, eggs, cucumbers, and other Korean accompaniments for the barbecued meat. The grill was lit and the thin, marinated meat slices are cooked in front of you. You ideally cook it, but at this restaurant the service-oriented staff help you get started and frequently step in (if you're letting the meat cook too long). The three types of meat were sweet short ribs (galbi), marinated sirloin, and beef brisket. Each comes separately. Throughout the meal, the servers (yes, three servers fawned over us....loved it) asked if they could get us more of any of the sides, and refilled the salad. A Korean drink (I think it was alcoholic) is included with the meal for all diners, or you can choose a single beer (we chose Sapporo) for one of the diners. An overly sweet drink was given to all diners at the end of the meal (one sip and I stopped), along with a cute pretty, tropical-flavored lollipop. This was one of the best meals I ever had. Be sure to take a picture before you start eating or cooking, and a movie of you cooking. They are a wonderful reminders of your first Korean BBQ. The experience was well-worth the $92 tab. This is an upscale, intimate, but roomy restaurant that is clean and somehow, smokeless, despite the grilling.

In the LA area to visit my fiance's son and to celebrate my graduation from USC, we decided to meet at Genwa, based on location and the rave reviews on tripadvisor. The food was excellent and we were quite pleased until we departed the restaurant and realized we left a brand new, expensive pair of sunglasses on the ledge of the booth. Calling immediately after our departure, we intended to turn around to retrieve the glasses. To our surprise, they were nowhere to be found, even though only a waitperson could have found them. The attitude of the restaurant was "oh, well", which was also a disappointment. If we would return, we would be much more careful not to bring anything of value that we could possibly forget - like sunglasses!

Highlights: 1. Fresh product with high price to quality ratio. Very flavorful with the marinate sauce, and meat was not tough as at some other places. 2. Twice as many side dishes. 3. Service ... never had the staff help with the grilling to that level before. 4. Ventilation. At more traditional venues, vent is above table so you end up soaked with the smoke from the grill. Here they have it built into the grill so it sucks it down and away. They also change the crate frequently. 5. Great ambiance. Modern design with a cozy atmosphere.

We just wanted to thank Genwa for the fantastic food offered!! It has been our first experience in korean food!! And everything was delicious!! Congrats Genwa and the great service received!!

Huge variety of food, so just ordered a fixed menu for group of 4. Bulgogi was outstanding. Numerous small dishes of pickled vegetables, fishcakes, etc. Flavors rich and fun to have the experience of cooking at the table. Very helpful staff to suggest menu items and bring extras of the popular small dishes.

Visiting LA with our grandson and went for dinner one night. Got there early because we did not have a reservation. The place was crowded but they sat us within a 10 minutes. By the time we left, the waiting line was out the door. Very good Korean. Better than what we get in San Francisco. We ordered 3 main dishes to share and then came out the 20 or so little plates. The table was covered with dishes, all very good. The price was very reasonable.

Love this place! It's my go to for Traditional Korean Meals. My kids, friends and family are always excited to enjoy the delicious authentic fare. The reception staff is always friendly and the wait staff is fantastic. ❤️❤️❤️

The waiters are so nice, the food is excellent, and the restaurants atmosphere is great. This place has the best Korean food that I've had so far.

Visited this restaurant on a recent visit to Los Angeles. We were warmly greeted as we entered the venue. As it was a week night it wasn't that busy. We were taken to what seemed like a private room however there was already a large party in there and we had to squeeze pass them. This wasn't ideal when needing to get out either. It did seem strange as there seemed lots of tables available. We opted for one of the set menus as we wanted to sample a few delights. The service was great and attentive. It is fair to say you really do get value for money as the portion sizes are huge. The food was very tasty as well.

Wow. If I only knew where to begin...Let's start with our excellent-beyond-belief server, Anna. We left just about everything in her hands and I honestly can't think of any way it could have gone better. I have always wanted real Korean BBQ and I got everything I could ever ask for here. The meal started with kimchee...and soju. 24 different types of kimchee, and not one I didn't like. From there our waitress suggested the 3 of us do family style prime galbi (short ribs), kot sal (unmarinated beef-oh so tender) and spicy pork. It was all straight BBQ except for the pork, but it was all perfect and fantastic. Anna made sure to come back and turn the meat for us and served it up. This was the most full-service, friendly and attentive meal I have ever had! She even topped it off with ginger and cinnamon tea (aids digestion? Sounds right). I swear on my life, this was the best meal I have ever had all around. Great service, great food and great times. Thank you Anna. If/when I come back to L.A. I am definitely stopping here again!

The food is spectacular! BBQ prime rib and seafood are of the highest quality. The all you can eat banchan are all fantastic. Great service and atmosphere add to the whole experience. Yes the price isn't cheap but everyone was extremely full and satisfied.

We have eaten at Korean restaurants before, but I never remember what I have ordered in the past. The five of us decided to order the package "F." There is something from every food group! The server told us what each of the appetizers (at least 20 kinds) were and talked us through each course (and why they were prepared in that way). At the end he brought over some melon shots to cap off the night. EXCELLENT! They were even kind enough to cook the seafood separately (as I have a seafood allergy). All the different kinds of beef had different tastes and textures and were perfectly complemented with a nice spicy sauce and rolled in either of two kinds of wraps. Again, the food and service was the best possible. If you are in L.A., you have to give Genwa a chance and you will not be disappointed.

So East Coast Family of 6 on last night of weeklong LA/OC trip. Stuck in a LAX hotel looking for one last meal. Daughter pulls up online Genwa restaurant and off we go. Hallelujah is all I can say. We loved the place. Now it was a Tues nite so we walked right in and got a seat but could see how it could be packed on weekends. The food was above average but reason we loved it so was the attention to detail and the customer service. You immediately realize that the employees have been trained well and are invested in the success of the restaurant. From the bartender to the waiters to the bus boy u got a feeling of group effort intended to please the customer. There were no sad faces and servers were very helpful in advising the dinner. Attentiveness to my 3 young children was a plus. The only negative was my wallet was left much depleted after trip but hey we are on vacation.

The skinny: Parking- valet $3.50 Decor- dark wood Restroom- clean double Service- controlling Coke factor- pepsi only :( Food- very good Genwa was packed when we arrived at 630p and the wait was 30min. They did say it was 1.5 hrs waiting but luckily it wasn't that long. Once seated we ordered the marinated galbi and bulgolgi and also the spicy pork. Between those three meats and all of the Bachan side dishes it was enough to feed 4 people. I loved the fact that there are 20 small side dishes including the salad which was very delicious. They do charge for rice! The meat was some of the best meat I have ever tasted. It had a velvet smooth quality unlike anything I have ever tasted in the U.S. In Japan I had true waygu steak that was similar but this meat was unbelievable. Of course it's $$$ but worth every morsel. I like to cook my meat well done and the servers want to constantly turn the heat down. Otherwise I will be back!

Banchan Heaven!!! This place takes the cake in most number with never ending banchan refills out of all Korean BBQ houses I have dined in. Genwa, LA's food taste & quality is top notch, the service is second to none and the restaurant is beautifully decorated. Four of us dined at lunch for $100 including tax and gratuity. That included all the banchan, japchae, scrambled eggs, rice, lettuce and steamed and radish wraps and 3 types of BBQ meats. Had I ordered this in Orlando, it would have costed 2-3 times!!! Unlike the typical rude Korean wait staff, this place actually respect their costumers...a super PLUS in our dining book. 😃 Overall, this is my BEST Korean BBQ dining experience. I've been here twice and both times...PERFECT! Will continue to come here when in Los Angeles.

The meat was premium quality and super good. So juicy and flavorful. Service was good and I loved the side dishes. Will definitely be returning.

Good Korean BBQ place. The portion is quite big, so don’t over order. So many free side orders and many are delicious.

Within the heart of downtown area. They offer outdoor dinning, great menu of many Korean dishes. A bit proving but delicious.

full on a Monday and double the size. There are reasons; great food, great service and reasobaly priced for what you get I have been here over 6 times and keep going back

I visited Genwa for lunch with my sister and her husband. Service was faultless, nothing was too much trouble. All the little side dishes were explained to us, the sheer variety means you'll like something-the beef was my favourite. We shared two types of bibbimbap, which was plenty for the three of us. They tasted so good I hummed a little song of happiness while I was eating. Not only was the food delicious, quantities were just right and very good value. Absolutely delighted.

I have been to Genwa on many occasions over the past 3 years. It never fails. First and foremost, the service is excellent. The hosts and waitstaff are great at customer service, something that you won't always find a little further east in Koreatown. As for the food, I have never eaten anything less than delicious here. They give a very generous amount and variety of banchan. The egg custard soup is perfectly seasoned. Our family is partial to bulgogi, and here it is perfectly marinated with a balance of sweet and savory. A lot of people come here to celebrate birthdays. They'll sing and put a candle in your dessert. And whether it's your birthday or not, you get pretty lollipops when your done. The other Genwa in LA is on La Cienega and the food and service is just as good, though it doesn't have the intimate feel of the one on Wilshire. It's more open and modern. This restaurant never fails. Go and enjoy.

The restaurant is great for dinner and one of my favorite thing is the vent by the grill. You will usually smell like BBQ after leaving a Korean BBQ restaurant but not here. No reservation, walk in only but worth it.

We really enjoyed the dining experience at Genwa! They begin the process with placing a plethora of small side dishes as well as a large salad and delicious spicy sauces. We had two entrees, the best was the tender and sweet short ribs. At the end of the meal they gave us sweet ginger tea. The service was superb and the environment clean and modern. Highly recommended!

the food there is good, but higher price, and there are many different kinds of korean sides, everything is nice except that...service is so so. one waiter and one waitress serve us, maybe they were too busy, our prime galbi meet was scorched by them.....and also, when the waitress serves us, we always thanks her for serving, but she never had reaction to us, even had eye contact with us, feeling not so good.

We had family & friends gathering including kids with ages from 2-6yo. We made a reservation ahead, and a nice room was reserved for us. They brought out small portion rice/soup/dry seaweed just for kids. The food was a little more expensive than typical Korean food, but worth it for the service received. The dolsot bibimbop (돌솥 비빔밥) was presented slightly different than what I am used to... reminded me of a paella. Overall, we had great time.

when i went, we didn't have too much of a wait because they managed to stick us between a two reservations. first of all, the service was impeccable, and i really loved the 25 side dishes, which they will describe to you if you ask.. i recommend getting a combo with galbi beef and also a beef bibimbap. all of their food was good, however, i was not able to try the mango sorbet because of time restraints, and believe me, i really wanted to. the prices were also VERY AWESOME,. when i took another bibimbap or takeout, they also gave me a second box with small portions of sidedishes(though not all 25). after you pay, they also give you free lollipops. iwould rather eat here than at other all you can eats oh, reservations not available for small parties

1st time experience of a Korean bbq restaurant and we was very happy with our choice of restaurant. Great friendly service, with a little guidance round the menu and very helpful in explaining dishes. Fantastic tasty food, the thinly sliced beef on the bbq was very good our favourite.

Don't miss this place. Great food and service. There are two locations of Genwa in LA. Go to the Wilshire Blvd location.

This was my first Korean BBQ with friends who are experts - they shared with me all the good, the bad and the bland of local restaurants then took me here. I was amazed by approximately two dozen little bowls set out with tidbits to try with our BBQ. The meat (we ordered beef and pork) was tasty, the green salad refreshing and there were so many different treats to try throughout the meal. Overall, it was a little pricy, but ultimately worth the decadent array and tastes of the meal. Parking was very easy in the valet (parking structure) behind the restaurant, but we had an early dinner - by the time we left, the restaurant was very crowded and the valet was telling people to turn around because they ran out of parking. Would advise going there very early (our reservations were at 6pm).

It is a high-end Korean BBQ place, expect to pay for some meats : it is not an all-you-can-eat place, it is an a-la-carte. They have some combos if you want to try a bunch of stuff. We took a combo for 4 people and it had a lot of food. The servers come and to the cooking for you, so you just sit down, eat and enjoy the meal. Another great thing about this place is the high variety of side dishes that they offer. They put over 20 different kinds of banchan at our table and we were pretty surprised since we didn't have this in Montreal.

My friend and I choosed to have a Dinner in a Korean restaurant and the Genwa was the nearest one infact the reviews are impressive as well. Korean BBQ? Awesome! They have different varieties of items and combos for tou to choose. The side dishes are 👌🏻👌🏻 bingo. The Service? Fantastic! They help you grilled the meats and ask how’s everything. Very attentive waitstaff. The Location? Accessible, easy to locate. Overall experience! Magnifico, thumbs up for everyone! From Kitchen Staff to the Front Staff 😊😊👌🏻 Planning to come back on oir next trip in LA!!!

We were invited for lunch here and found the food to be of the highest quality. The wait staff help you to barbeque if you are not used to it and are generally very friendly. Wear your dark colored clothes as there will be some splashing of the juices

Superb food and excellent service. At lunch the restaurant is reasonable noise level, but dinner becomes painfully loud with large groups, many drinking and noisy.

I have a 7 and 9 year old and they are fussy eaters but never at Genwa. This is one of their favorite restaurants to go to for a treat. Last week went for my younger daughters birthday. What I like about the place. First the decor it is fairly hip as Korean restaurants go ... I know some folks will feel like it is not authentic if it is too hip but I am Korean and it suits me fine. Also it is clean which is always a must for any restaurant. Like many Korean restaurants they cook the meat at the table the difference is that they use a different heating system that does not seem to be as hot. It takes a bit longer to cook the meat. The nice thing is that you don't walk out feeling like you are covered with the scent of meat. Also the pace of eating is a bit slower. At some place you feel like you are rushing to eat the meat. There are a ton of side dishes at first you feel like the portions are tiny but there are so many you get to taste a bunch and then ask for more. The meat is always good but don't forget about the rice dishes and stews all are equally good. It is a great place for kids they bring special animal shaped plates and mini chop sticks with rubber bands so the kids can use them. And at the end of the meal the kids get lollipops. We used to go to some more local low key restaurants but this place has become our go to place for Korean food.

Amazing. Best Korean food. The sides alone will make u full. Our family really enjoyed it. Very kid friendly they even got kid chopsticks. Service was top notch.

Great service from the hostess and servers. We were seated right away on Saturday night and all the servers were really friendly. They came by often to check on you and help with even cooking the food and changing out the grills without us asking. It's not all you can eat and it is a bit more expensive than other places we've tried but the quality is better. I like the rolled up towels, sweet dessert tea, and lollipops that they give you at the end of the meal. We also like that you don't leave smelling like Korean BBQ.

Me and my friend went to Genwa for lunch. Parking facility was available next to the restaurant for 3$. We ordered three kinds of beef for both of us to share. They serve first the appetizers and the kimchee (about 20 bowls). I really liked the service as they were attentive to our table and they even helped us cook the meat so we won't suffer figuring it out. I do not suggest ordering more than one kind of beef as after a while they all taste the same (order seafood, chicken or pork along). I really loved the experience and I would visit again for sure. I recommend everyone to try Genwa but first make sure you are starving before going there as you will eat a lot.
Lovely Korean food
Lovely Korean food. We had the combo platter and was big and great. They have outdoor sitting . We will be back
