Fantastic food, good service, friendly waiters, nice atmosphere. We should have eaten there boat night's. If we come back to Austin this is the place we will go to again.

Delicious, fresh inventive menu, although limited lunch menu options, especially for vegetarians. The desserts were a standout. Pretty setting and décor.

Terrible experience. My company had a huge conference here for the last week. Started the night on the pool deck, they closed the outside bar. Told us to come inside, which staff then got aggregated that we were inside. Sent back outside and finally ask for a manager for me to close the tab. Came inside for dinner, rude server, food ordered, came back 30 minutes to tell us he didn't have our menu. Will not be back and will make recommendations to my company / conference that we will not be back to the hotel either. We have only been here for a week sold.

We stayed at the Kimpton and decided to eat brunch here on Sunday morning. Fortunately we had a reservation because it was packed. Their brunch menu is more "gourmet" than what I was looking for, so I had the burger and side salad. It was a delicious burger! We also ordered the bakery/pastry plate which was quite tasty! I would eat brunch here again, however it was a little pricey. Service was great!

First, the food: each item was fine, some quite tasty, but in the end it really didn't feel like we'd had a "meal." If the menu is designed for sharing, why did they bring exactly 3 small crackers with our Pig Face Candybar appetizer? I mean, they can see there are 2 people there, and this one clearly needs more than 3 crackers anyhow, so why not bring extra crackers? It was quite tasty, but annoying to have to order extra crackers in order to finish it. Little things like that make a food experience memorable - and in this case not in a good way. It took 10-15 minutes for us to get BREAD & BUTTER - we didn't want to order the chocolate sourdough with cultured butter, but we were starving & told our waiters so & ordered some bread. Our first appetizer arrived before the bread! Unacceptable. (Though once we got it, it was tasty & the butter absolutely top-notch.) We had ordered an appetizer, a salad, and 2 fish entree dishes. After delivering the first appetizer, they came back to tell us that the kitchen was running low on one of the fishes, so they had put our order in "early" and we'd therefore get it - they acted like we should be grateful, which was confusing. Perhaps they don't realize that usually that's how it works in a restaurant - you order things, and the waiters bring them to you! Or let you know what's been nixed so you can order something else! What they should have said was that we'd be getting one of our entrees before our salad.... but WHY should that have been the case? Couldn't they have just reserved one of the fishes for us, and brought our meal out in the right order? The salad we ordered was quite tasty, but when you're expecting people to share a salad, it's helpful if it comes cut into bite-sized pieces - not whole leaves of lettuce or 8-inch long watercress or pea shoots.... the salad was also advertised to include roasted vegetables. We had one piece of fennel, three shaved-slivers of carrot, and one pinky-sized piece of something undefined (eggplant? mushroom?)... again, it was tasty but just not served properly or easy to share. The first fish we had ordered was the whole trout. Impeccably prepared and very tasty, it came absolutely bare of starch or other side dishes. However, we did enjoy it very much. The 2nd fish was a meaty chunk of a whitefish (I forget which) - served sort of dipped in blackened spices, again very tasty but quite salty. It would have been better if that one could have been cut with some rice or another starch, as the effect was quite rich. The desserts were good, with the chocolate passion bomb being one of our favorites in any restaurant. It was perfect for sharing, and the most satisfying part of our meal. The panna cotta was tasty, but sadly hard to share, since the gelatin part was not served in the traditional "mold" shape, but was rather congealed to the bottom of the bowl. The mini meringues were a nice touch, but the crumbled biscuit was way too heavy for this dish. Our waiters were sweet but slow and hapless, not refilling water or offering plain water once our sparkling ran out. One guy seemed to be training the other, but it was hard to tell who was supposed to be the expert since both seemed tentative and inexperienced. Overall, we would NOT go back nor would we recommend this to our friends. My general feeling is this is a talented chef who needs help figuring out how to run a patron-satisfying restaurant. My advice: Start with making regular old bread available for patrons who want it (versus having to wait for the chef to toast it); either re-design the portions for better sharing or stop calling it a sharing menu; include small portions of some sort of starch with your entrees; add some items to the menu that are less rich to balance the salty/buttery items. I think this place has potential, but I won't hurry back.

Had never heard of it or been in the Van Zandt hotel. The restaurant and bar are near the pool on the 4th floor. The bar area got bust about 7 pm. Good local beer selection. The restaurant is open and airy. All of the plates are designed to be shared. Recommend the seared steak and the fish dishes.

Went for Saturday brunch. They had a soul/jazz live band. The food was very good and you have options. Valet parking for up to 3 hours for the restaurant was $10. They also have outside seating by the pool area.

The weekend jazz brunch is fabulous! Save room for the pecan bun with nutmeg ice cream. This is a great hotel restaurant.

Cool atmosphere, great live music, creative cocktails, outstanding food that will make your taste buds do a happy dance!

Ate here in December. Lots of sort of offhand plates, food combinations were put together oddly. Flavors in some cases were good in others did not mesh at all. All small plates, but too small to really be shared. Unless you ordered the whole trout, I guess. Raw goat? Ummmm no but thanks. Ceviche taco with cobra, fried chicken skin, avocado, toreado....there wasn't a single item I could put my finger on all the ingredients. Someone's trying too hard methinks...

I stayed at the Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt which is where Geraldine's is located. The conference I attended had a dinner there. The food was very good and I liked the atmosphere.

Pros: Good food, great ambiance. We ordered crab toast and quesadilla with potatoes on the side and they were very good. We also ordered a cocktail called brewed looks like a latte and it was good too. Cons: Bad service. After we were seated, we ordered drink and 5 minutes later our food. We waited and waited. Our cocktail nor food had arrived even after other table who arrived after us got their food and drinks. 30 minutes passed and our waiter said the kitchen messed our order up with other table. She said she had not put in and did not remember our order. I was a bit confuse because she took a note of our order and how the kitchen messed up if she had not put order in? My husband asked for a menu so we can put our order again and she just stand around, did not even try to offer any resolution. After my husband asked the menu for the 4th time, she finally pick it up for us. I was so upset. We left the table and told the receptionist that we want to make a complain. The manager came and asked us to stay after we explained the situation. She apologized and said that we were not the 1st one complaining about Kathleen. She took care of us and our bill. I am not sure if we will come back to Geraldine's. There are plenty of restaurants in Austin with much better service and food. They should pick their waiters more carefully. I cannot imagine if we bring guest or hungry kid into the restaurant and the situation like this happening again.

The brunch was a nice affair. The music was nice but we were too close for anything but a strained conversation with the couple that accompanied us. Although that may suffice for certain situations. The drink selection and products were good. I had avocado toast with crabmeat and added a poached egg. This is a dish I have had many time in New Orleans and it was just as good.

We were looking forward to this dinner. Every meal came out at different times although the waitress warned us that would happen. So we couldn’t eat together....my short ribs had no sauce so although the meat was high quality there was no flavor. A lot of business executives in our group from across the country left food on their plate and didn’t say much (to be polite). Really sad experience for our group and sad for the restaurant. Expensive meal. Not coming back.

Gerladine's is on the 4th floor of the Hotel Van Zandt, a very new facility. We had an excellent brunch: Brioche French Toast and a pork belly dish. Service was excellent and helpful. Weere there too early for the live music.

Very nice atmosphere and pleasant servers. The breakfast was prepared perfectly poached eggs, bacon & hash browns (instead of toast), Had a French 76 + coffee with real milk. Service is very smooth, conversation with friends and wife were great. The Pool is right outside of the restaurant. This area has become the "cool" part of Austin, a dozen bars in restaurants in former homes.

This is my second trip to this restaurant, the first I did not like it, and the second time I hated it! The menu is small and very uninteresting! You are looking at the menu for hours to find an interesting item, mixing appetizers and main dishes together, nothing jumps at you! You don't know if this is tapas or what! We were a big party of 12 so we ordered practically the whole menu! Most dishes tasted average to below average. Who told this chef that this menu is interesting. I guess they keep on getting people in there because the setting is interesting! and the Hotel location. If this is meant to be a Bar Menu then make it a bar menu with a bunch of tapas or making a restaurant menu!

Like often, the menus has fancy wording which makes it totally non-understandable, so we relied on the waiter's advice. Wise decision! they served what they call tapas style food, but it is actually more reasonable sized dishes, probably 7-8 different ones. The food was very good, the service above Austin average. Wine was ok+ except for 1 of the sparkling wines we had, which we returned. In short: nice hotel joint but without soul. We were 2 for a late dinner, paid $180 incl. tips Note for the moderator: the answers to How expensive is this restaurant, should be more explicit. Fine dining does not mean $$$$, whereas $$$$ does not mean fine dining neither. This place is both though I ranked it mid-range because the value for money is not there

Everything was very good: tasty food, nice wines, great service, live music... So what was missing? The restaurant seems a bit "cold". To make it a bit more intimate would make a huge difference.

On vacation with husband and my mom, who often travels with us. Our anniversary was a couple of weeks ago, and we decided to celebrate while in Austin. We went on a Thursday night for "Bird, Bubbles and Blues." What a great experience! Had shareable plates.... 4 pc fried chicken, boneless, made milder for us, and really delicious. Pacific rockfish... just perfect! Small plates... carrots with mole, sumac and amaranth... my mom is still talking about this. Found online, but just a picture of Geraldine's. At least now I know what sumac and amaranth are (spice and grain.) Pork ribs with a caramel sauce.... yummy. Perfect biscuits. They brought champagne for husband and me. Music, Jo Jones, was outstanding... just the right volume, great mix of originals and covers, and super musicianship. They also have Sunday Jazz Brunch which we originally planned, but Snowpocalypse happened, so we were thrilled we got to do this. Space is elegant and comfortable, and service is outstanding. What a find!!! Check out the light fixtures (made from trombones) in hotel lobby.

We were a party of three for brunch on a Sunday. The atmosphere was very pleasant - jazz band playing the great American song book and not over powering the restaurant. The service was attentive if not friendly. But oh my - the food! All three of us ordered differently: one omelette, one eggs and bacon and one eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. All three dishes arrived cold and that was after we had already asked the server to replace a coffee which was given to us at room temperature, Just not good enough and not worthy of a return visit,

The Salmon Benedict is one of the best I've ever had. The Biscuits are delicious too. There are lots of cocktail options but my favorite is the Bloody Mary.

Maybe my pallet isn't sophisticated or mature enough for Geraldine’s. Ordered two drinks which should have been explosions of flavor...nothing. Both, while strong, lacked any flavor that made them signature drinks. I ordered the crispy ribs and my wife ordered the chicken...the ribs were Scooby snacks. Small, lacking of any meat and tasted like you wish you were high with Shaggy. The skin on the chicken was very mushy...I spent the entire time hoping the chicken was completely cooked. Now, the potatoes that came with the chicken were very good. With all that being said, again, it could be me...but my experience with Geraldine’s was not very good. The restaurant had two redeeming qualities; the service, which was excellent, and the atmosphere which was outstanding.

It has been a long time coming to experience Geraldine’s after hearing about great things. It all started earlier in the day when we entered the Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt and noticed a poster board advertising Fried Chicken Thursday’s. This got our immediate attention and made reservations online. We returned to the Van Zandt in the evening navigating around a construction crew outside to find out the elevator to the restaurant is activated at 5:30 PM sharp. Waited shortly in the lobby until able to go up to enter a darkly lit awe-inspiring place. We were the first guests and quickly seated to a nice table. I saw a stage, kitchen and bar. The intimate romantic atmosphere was perfect to celebrate our anniversary. The service was top notch. As for our meal we ordered the Fried Chicken (4 pieces), Buttermilk Biscuits, Sweet Potatoes, and Brussels Sprouts. My drink was a Southern Sipper which was a bourbon drink with maple-pecan syrup with a cinnamon twist, and enjoyed it very much. Our special evening was treated like a five course where each item was brought to us separately starting with the biscuits and ended with the chicken. All the items were superb and plentiful. The fried chicken was the highlight. It was mildly spicy and not greasy. I was able able to eat it with a knife and fork without it being a mess. The flavor was perfect and truly was among to best in Austin. I want to thank Geraldine’s for the surprise Chocolate Tart desert for our anniversary. We appreciate it!

The upscale Geraldine's at the Hotel Van Zandt is absolutely amazing. They have great food, live music, excellent cocktails, and an atmosphere inside and outside on the pool deck that is hard to beat in Austin. It is located in the heart of the Rainey Street District and is one of the best places to bring friends, family, or a date if you want to impress.

This restaurant is located inside of a Kimpton hotel. It's a great layout and the vibe is cool. I can appreciate the live music and the staff are very friendly. My niece and I went for cocktails on a night with live music. I had the 24 carrot magic and it was delicious! It's a refreshing cocktail that I'd certainly have again. I also tasted my niece's sunrise, sunset cocktail. It was pretty good too. It's worth the time if you're in the area.

The items we ordered (all good): Yogurt & Granola, Short Rib Quesadilla, Standard, Bacon and Sausage. The restaurant is beautiful and everyone was friendly and personable. Would recommend.

We had dinner tonight. We love the setting of this restaurant and service was outstanding. We shared a few small plates and an excellent bottle of rose wine. Be prepared for some very small plates. The scallop, cauliflower and beet dishes were very tasty. The shrimp dish was dry and tasteless. We were not too hungry and that small diner worked for us. However, it is much too pricey!

Ordered the Chicken sandwich and the ice cream sandwich. The fries and the chicken sandwich were good but the ice cream sandwich was a let down.

A cool setting on the 4th floor of a tony hotel. Live music on a Saturday early afternoon. The food was just ok, the service tepid at best and it is expensive. It was disappointing at best. I had the basic breakfast which was two eggs and toast and sausage which was $14. If you added potatoes the upcharge was $5, so $19 for a basic breakfast, which is more than even the swanky Austin hotels charge for the same meal. My food came out cold, not even warm, I should have sent it back but it took a while for it to even come out so I just ate it, my bad I suppose. We were there early after noon and the place was not that busy which make it more disappointing. Then after we were done, it took literally 20 minutes to get our check to pay, our server just disappeared completely and we needed to flag down another server to get our check. The it took about 10 more minutes to have our credit card returned, also disappointing. So I came for the food, not the cool setting and the food was not great and kind of underwhelming even if I am being gratuitous. Add lousy service to the equation and I will not be back. Too bad, because the setting is great.

quail is delish! coconut curry and garlic kale. striped bass with charred avocado! beautiful indoor and outdoor setting! rooftop

Had a really nice lunch there the other day. A friend was in town and didn't want to run around. Since he was staying that the Hotel Van Zandt, we went to their restaurant. Although the lunch menu was a little sparse, the service and food was quite good. My fried chicken sandwich was a huge piece of white meat breast with exceptionally thick and crunchy breading. I got the spicy mayo and chow-chow toppings on the side and both were really tasty. The sandwich was a little too big and I ate the meat from the second half without the bread. The tossed salad with lemon vinaigrette dressing was good too. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by a much better than average lunch here.

I stayed at the Kimpton Van Zandt Hotel where this restaurant is located. The food was great, service was great, and ambiance was great! They have live music often and the food is delicious. It's in a convenient location in the hotel, and has outdoor seating, right next to the pool deck. I enjoyed my time here and would visit again. I ate at the restaurant several times during my visit: lunch, and late night and drinks.

Had brunch while staying in the hotel. They can't make flavored lattes. Pretty extensive brunch menu. We had a basic breakfast and a burger. Both were good, not great. Was a little disappointed after hearing how amazing this restaurant is. Maybe they do dinner better than brunch. Service was pretty lax. Most impressive thing about the experience is how pretty the restaurant is. Reminds me of the Grammercy Park in NYC a bit.

This small (ish) plates menu was incredible. A very buzzy scene, we were glad to sit on the outdoor patio overlooking the city and the pool, which cleared out after the sun went down. The vegetarian dishes would make a meat eater give second thought. The waiter the smoked carrots, which were amazing. The cornmeal fried oyster mushrooms tasted a tad greasy, but the cauliflower dish was outstanding. The tomato salad was good, but paled in comparison to the other veg dishes. The wagu beef was really good; when I ordered it I was concerned that 4 oz would not have been enough, but it was. The short ribs were tender and full of flavor. The only negative we experienced was a waiter who went MIA for 15 minutes, leaving empty water glasses and unfilled wine order. No support staff to be found, which was annoying. Very reasonably priced for the quality.

We visited Geraldine's on a Saturday for a birthday celebration dinner. They had 3 bands on the lineup for the evening, not sure if this is every Saturday or just a special occasion. While the band were all very good, it was very loud. We had a hard time carrying on a conversation at our table when the bands were playing. The service was great and we were well taken care of. The menu seemed a bit lacking to me and since we had so many people we had a chance to try a bite of many of the dishes. Highlights: Ceviche Taco Farmers Market Salad Grilled Carrots Barbecued Short Rib New York Strip Lowlights: Fondue Fermented Chile Hush Puppies Crispy Pork Ribs (These were average) If you're hungry then this probably isn't the place for you. The NY Strip says it feeds 2-4, this is really a meal for one person as I could have easily eaten the entire dish. Overall not bad, we spent about $100 a person including drinks and tip. On the plus side, they do have a great bar scene if you're just looking for a place to grab a drink and maybe an appetizer.

We had a late meal here as most other places were not service food and were pleasantly surprise and the quality and variety of the dishes. The pickled egg, tomato and burrata salad, the egg roll and the gnocchi were all excellent. Service was a little slow and prices are on the high side but the food quality was great!

Wow! This was definitely a 5 star experience. My friend booked us a reservation here on the first night of our girl’s trip to Austin since it had a nice view of the 4th of July fireworks. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and had live jazz/blues music (Oscar) playing at the perfect volume. It added ambiance without making it difficult to converse. The cocktails were delicious, but the real standouts of the night were the dishes. Wow! Everything was delectable and felt like the perfect share plate sizes. We had the cheese board for 4, Endive salad, buttermilk biscuits, Brussel sprouts, snap peas, short ribs, and the Cacio Pepe pasta. The pasta was insanely delicious, but honestly everything was. We were raving dish after dish. Thank you for a great night! Our waitress, Leah, was also a delight.

We went to see the Peterson Brothers and experience the Geraldine's snow globe event. The snow globe event was a large tent over their pool with a DJ and a bubble machine. It had s'mores and fancy drinks. We got a few drinks and sat by the outside fireplace before our reservation time. The snow globe event ended at 9pm and the s'mores were gone by the time we wanted them post dinner. Then when it was time for our reservation we got a table right by the stage. Their menu is small plates for sharing. We got the following: popovers, ceviche, short rib eggroll, pork ribs and shrimp hush puppies. The food is so so at best. I would not order the popovers, the eggrolls or the hush puppies again. The ribs were good and the ceviche was decent and a bit different. We got a few rounds of additional drinks. Our server Pete was direct and attentive but not that friendly. The band played for only a hour and half. Valet parking is free for three hours and then it cost $20 per 1st hour over, then it goes to like $30 per hour. It was fun to experience a new place and to see one of our favorite bands there. The food isn't good enough for us to come back and the parking is an insult for the amount of money we spent.

I love going to Geraldine's for brunch! The food is always excellent and fresh. My favorite dish is the omlettes of course. I have been there to many times to count.

Was there for a late lunch or early dinner on Halloween. Only myself and 3 other customers in the bar area. The bar staff was overly interested in chatting with their friends or amongst themselves. I wouldn't call it snooty.... but pretty close. Just really didn't seem to care and absolutley didn't want to be bothered with paying customers. Food was "fancy", but the burger was over cooked... Shame because the flavor was pretty amazing. If it wasn't tough, it would have been perfect. The beet salad was good and fresh. Different and fun. Just what I was looking for. Just wish the bar staff had been more engaging. Seems like they're good at mixing up specialty drinks, but they weren't trying to engage anyone. They wanted SOCIAL HOUR for themselves.

The valet attendant, Will, was an awesome help! We had trouble getting my car to start. After some trouble shooting, and his help in even trying to give my car a boost, we found out it was just a bad connection to the battery. So glad he had the patience to troubleshoot the car with me! It was a simple fix, but wasn’t easy to figure out.

We love Kimpton hotels and have always been impressed with their impeccable service - until Geraldine’s. We showed up at about 2:30 in a Saturday afternoon. We were immediately seated but had to wait nearly 15 minutes before someone came to get our drink order. We ordered meal at same time. Found came out fairly quickly - with a LONG hair in my husband’s burger. We had a heck of a time getting someone’s attention. They made a fresh burger and comped it - but it was a less-than-satisfying experience.

Geraldine's was recommended by the concierge at the W hotel and it did not disapoint. The decor is chic and the atmoshphere is comfortable. Every single dish we ordered was fantastic. Definitely smaller portions and a bit pricey but for special occasions, it was perfect. The only downside is that it costs almost $20 to valet the car. It should definitely be complimentary!

We were staying at the Kimpton but one look at this brunch menu & we had to try it. Really nice live music, pretty laid back so we could still talk despite sitting right by it. I took the fried chicken sandwich, top quality & super tasty. My husband took the crab and avocado & added a poached egg. My food much bigger & came with fries! So he of course had some of mine! Really enjoyed this brunch & buzzing on a Saturday. Service very good too.

Met up with my cousin who was in town for a few days here at his suggestion, the wine list is very impressive, the cocktails look incredible and the appetizers are absolutely amazing, service is first class. it's a little pricey for my normal type of haunt but I'll definitely be coming back for special occasions, did not get to eat dinner her as we had reservations elsewhere, were just here for pre dinner drinks and appetizers.

Spent a few days in Austin and love hotels with great 'home bars" and this one delivers. Food was good, drinks were good, and they have live music and a lot of nights. Location next to the pool is really nice as well.

Geraldine's was recommended by a local CVB rep for Austin and was a short walk across the street from the lovely Fairmont where I was staying, which factored in my decision to give it a try. The location in the hip looking Hotel Van Zandt, adjacent the equally hip Rainey Street, was fun for viewing - as I was fortunate to be seated next to a window overlooking said Rainey Street. The interior is open and airy with high ceilings and the noise level is low enough for conversations. Eclectic menu of reputedly 'small plates' (not so small - really portion sized for 2-3 people or more if you are sharing several). As a solo diner the portions were too large. But I wanted to taste several things, so I ordered a variety anyway. The server - who was VERY friendly, prompt, attentive without pestering - recommended the ceviche and the gnocchi with oxtail, both of which ended up being amazing. I chose the bourbon glazed roasted cauliflower - tasty but a little sweet for my taste, and shrimp hush puppies - also good. Ordering several items will add up quickly. I had a 1/2 bottle of Chianti too - so the total price for a single diner was $$$. My choice. I think it was worth it and would happily return to taste more bites - and bring a friend.

Pig face was superb but our favorite from what we tried, racklette fondue and smoked carrots were phenomenal...

We rented a cabana at the pool with 13 ladies for a bachelorette party this past weekend and Sami was the most amazing server. He was so attentive and put up with all of our rowdiness. He went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. We had the absolute best time, thank you Sami!!!

The beets were amazing - I don't know what they did to them, but I should have gotten a second order for dessert. The chocolate curry cake was really good. The service was attentive and super quiet. I was reading a book and twice found that they had filled my water glass without me realizing it. The plates are designed as appetizer portions, but I usually get appetizers or sides anyway, so I didn't really notice. It was a little expensive - beets, squash and a piece of cake was $44.

Went to Geraldine's while visiting family in Austin. Located in the Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt, it is a very nice atmosphere. There is plenty of space, a great bar and outdoor dining. Live music as well. All pluses and was looking to be a great night. I guess we should have checked out the menu prior. The menu was mostly expensive small plates. Each was an attempt to outdo the other offerings. The tiny servings were not very filing and we are not big eaters. Anyway, the drinks flowed and we had a good evening. TIP - don't arrive hungry or bring big eaters as guests.

Very nice venue on the 4th floor of the Hotel Van Zandt. Pleasant surroundings for relaxing brunch. Limited selection menu but a little something for everyone. Attentive service and food hot to the table.

We ordered the quinoa salad for breakfast and it was amazing! Our server was attentive and friendly, and it was a great way to start our day!

My wife and I had breakfast here one morning and were very happy with the food. I had the short rib quesadilla and she had the french toast. The quesadilla wasn't very large, but with a side of toast and bacon, it was a good size meal - and it was very tasty. My wife enjoyed her french toast.

Located on the 4th floor of the Kimpton Hotel, you access this restaurant via elevator. The room has a great ambiance with wooden arched ceilings accented by warm lights. The staff is very accommodating; you will want for nothing throughout the meal. The drinks were incredible; there's something for everyone's taste - my personal favorite was 'Smoke on the water'. There were 3 of us and the waitress suggested we order 6 plates. We decided to order 4 instead, and left feeling satisfied and not overly full. I think more would have been too many. We had the shrimp hushpuppies, crispy pork ribs, short rib egg roll, and bourbon cauliflower. The cauliflower was DELICIOUS - shrimp hush puppies and crispy pork ribs a close second. All in all it was a great meal and experience, but just too overpriced for what it is.

Very overpriced for what it was. After a few days of fun in Austin we were looking for a nice place to have a farewell dinner. The restaurant was well located so we were able to get a reservation. Upon arrival, the restaurant is very striking.. 4th floor of hotel and very well decorated. The menu is limited and we were quickly informed by the server that they have this special situation how they serve; she used a series of words that basically made it sounded like tapas but she didn't use that word. We were told we would need 8 plates for the 4 of us that would be served in the middle of our table for all to share. We ordered a bottle of wine and decided to start with 7 plates. Long story short, for $24+ the quail was tasty but tiny tiny portions and other food was ok, and you keep getting served the small-ish plates and bowls of food for the group and have to eat on the same plate for each 'course'. For those prices, i would have minimally wanted a full serving, clean plates.. Other issues included the fact that our gnocchi never arrived, and when we realized we were 'done' we told them to bag it (no we didn't want it after our 'mains' were done. ) The service was pleasant but hardly the level for the price we paid for the food we got. In a nutshell, pretentious and overpriced.

Was treated to a Father's day brunch and based on past reviews, chose Geraldine's. Service was great, however food, views, music and ambiance was only average. Word must be getting out because, even on Father's Day, the place was half empty. Expected more for the price but overall it didn't add up. Valet parking was advertised as free but fine print excluded weekends.

The menu is tapas based and I tried a number of items. Please try the steak tartar, you will not regret it. I also really enjoyed the beef cheek with peppers and chocolate. The service was attentive and the servers knowledgeable - this is important!

You are eating at hotel so you are paying hotel prices... however the food was outstanding... every dish was more flavorful than the next. They are small plates so it is best to be a group who likes to share. We were a group of 7 and the waiter thought we were under ordering with ten dishes. So we doubled up on some and added another 4 dishes and it was more food than we needed... we tried a charcuterie board, little gem, pastrami, short rib, beets, sweet potato, sprouts, cacio e pepe, salmon and flat iron steak. I did not try the salmon and I thought the little gem was blah, and the Cacio e pepe was just ok- not worth $32 when it is just cheese and pasta. However, the pastrami and steak were both above outstanding- melt in your mouth and the beets, sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts were all amazing. For desserts we liked the sticky toffee pudding, especially the ginger ice cream but the passion fruit tart was way too tart for me. They were out of the oxtail ragu and chocolate pot de creme which I would have liked to try and we meant to try the carrots and forgot. Our server was great- atmosphere was nice- we had a drink out by the pool while waiting for our table. When the jazz band started it got a little loud to converse but overall a great dinner our to celebrate a friend's birthday.

Geraldines is located in the cool Van Zandt hotel. The decor is great. We liked the open kitchen look. The live jazz was awesome. Our server was professional and friendly. The mimosas were yummy but I fell in love with the St. Germain Spritz cocktail. It came with a flower in it. My burger might have been one of the best I ever had! All the food was delicious! . Be sure to wonder around the hotel lobby and see the cool decor- light fixtures made from instruments, birds cut out of vinyl and more.

The service and Geraldine's is expert, the food is art-meets-science but in a good way. Try two or three things and be ready to experiment. It's all so good.

Great place to brunch in Austin. Nice views and ambience. Good menu with affordable prices. The fried chicken sandwich was excellent, and the juices and mimosas very good as well. Good service, kind waiters.

This place is fun for brunch the music is live with talented musicians. Food very Austin n delicious.

This place is the shizz! Tastefully curated, simple menu. The goat tar tar was one of the better things I've stuffed in my pie whole this year. Drinks are great, staff is knowledgeable and table service is perfection. And then there's the live music. Sophisticated yet not at all pretentious. I will most definitely return the next time I'm in Austin.

If you know me then you know I don’t eat ‘fufu’. This place can accommodate a picky eater and they do it all while making you feel comfortable. Located at Hotel Van Zandt- valet can run you 41 bucks plus a decent tip. If your going to be cheap-stay home on this one. Great place to bring a date and enjoy a nice night over looking the city!

Tapas style with inventive cocktails makes this hotel restaurant a cut beyond the rest. Live music on the Monday night I was there livened up the atmosphere while I took the recommendation of my server and had short ribs with carrots. The carrots were the inventive stars here with earthy mole and grains. Wow. Short ribs were great too, but the creativity with the carrots topped my evening

You won’t be disappointed at Geraldine’s. It’s not your typical hotel restaurant food and drinks. It’s a beautiful space with live music for your enjoyment. We enjoyed salads for lunch with salmon and a delicious French toast for breakfast. They also have amazing cocktails, and you can eat out by the pool if you wish.

I stayed at the Kimpton Van Zandt during a recent trip to Austin. I ended up at Geraldine's for cocktails and pupu's a couple of times. Great outdoor seating area for cocktails with a limited view. The drink list was extensive and the staff helpful and friendly. What I found to be incredible though, and this is all over Austin, was the music. I had a lot of options and ended up finishing both nights at the bar at Geraldine's. Good spot to relax in a beautiful hotel.

My niece booked a table at this restaurant when I visited her recently. We had a gorgeous round table to accommodate the 6 family members. The menu consists of mainly share plates but you can choose individually as well. I had a beet salad and short ribs with a Thai papaya salad. The short rib almost melted in my mouth and the beet salad was delicious. The food here is farm to table or so I am told. And I really enjoyed everything I tried. The tiramisu is a taste sensation but super rich. Our waitress had an amazing knowledge of the menu and was exceptional. I would definitely dine here again.

Sammy was the absolute best server! He had to deal with 13 rowdy ladies and did an awesome job! He made our day! Thank you so much Twitch!!! We had a blast!

Imagine walking into a restaurant and you ask if they comp the parking ($18 for 2 hours)and the say no, not on Fridays or Saturdays. Really? Then every table in the restaurant is empty (except one) and the hostess shows you to a table in a far corner which your wife, who is celebrating her birthday, doesn't like. You ask for a different table and she says it's not possible as they have lots reservations. Huh? I point to another empty table in the main dining area, and again the answer is no. Really? So we sit down, my wife looks at the menu, looks at me and says let's leave, I don't like this place. Off to Fabi & Rossi where the service is pleasant and the food is consistently good. We won't be back to Geraldine's, ever.

Enjoyed the family style dining at Geraldine’s. Fun yet cozy atmosphere and nice view created a welcoming place for a business dinner. Went with a group that had a preplanned menu but the sever was able to, and graciously accommodated, my nut allergy, bringing me individual sides as needed. Enjoyed the fresh vegetables and braised ribs. Stay for the live music and a drink on the patio. Convenient hotel location if you are staying at the Hotel Van Zandt.

We had a great evening at Geraldine’s - excellent food, service and quality. The place is reasonably big, but you must make reservations as it is packed full. They have a good & convenient valet service, as part of the hotel. The atmosphere is great, cocktails are well made and service is impeccable. All plates are shareable and with great quality, including the dessert menu. A must in Austin.

Great food and service. The restaurant sent a text prior to check on our reservation, we were greeted warmly, and had several staff to make sure we were comfortable. The waiter and servers were amazing, and they knew their menu details and were eager to please. Food combinations were fun and flavorful. Really enjoyed our food and service! This restaurant is on our list now of favorites when we return to Austin again

Our server was friendly and did a very good job. But, this is our first and last time going to Geraldine's for brunch. It didn't start out well when they did not have our reservation for two ready, even though we ask about the several available tables for four. We were told they are saving the four seat tables for a larger group. Twenty minutes later we were seated. The food was OK. FYI the tables for four, no one was ever seated there.

Located in the 4th level of Hotel Van Zandt near Rainey street. I was looking for a new place to have brunch for my sister’s birthday. We have been to most of the best places for brunch in Austin. However we have not been to Geraldine’s for brunch. We decided to valet park because parking is not great since it close to Rainey street. There is an elevator to the right of the entry of the hotel that brings you directly to the restaurant and level 4. The restaurant is warm and welcoming. Lots of wood, leather and rich fabrics. It faces the pool. There was live music. There was a full bar. The menu is short but a decent selection. We order fresh squeezed juice. We tried the standard breakfast, smashed burger, dish equipment to the migas, avocado toast and short rib quesadilla. Everything was delicious. They brought a cinnamon bun with ice cream and a candle for my sister. People were friendly and food came out fast. Attire for brunch is casual. There are people who were well dressed and people with nice shorts and tshirts. I highly recommend this place for brunch.

Great vibe with a unique entrance to the second floor. Arrived and were seated close to the stage. Wait staff all had a real cool edge to them with some challenging conversations - more training on food preferences would have been better. Drink offering was outstanding, with some unique drinks. Food was creative if a little overpriced for the food presented. Evening was topped off with 2 sets of music from a great musician.

Food keeps getting better at Geraldine’s. It was a full house but service never felt rushed. High quality live music that added to the atmosphere. Creative cocktails and one our new favorites, Saldo is served by the glass. We shared 5 plates between the two of us but 4 would have filled us up. We just couldn’t pass on the foie gras flatbread!

We were staying at Barton Creek Resort and hated the food and the place so Xmas day we went out into Austin and found this place in the hotel. AWESOME food, good service great ambiance. My husband, daughter and I went in for a meal and dessert and it was great. I would come back to this place no doubt. I had the short ribs (amazing!) my husband has the wagu steak (awesome!) and my daughter had the kids burger with cucumbers (she wasn't crazy about the burger). For dessert we had the peanut butter something it was delicious.

It is a hotel restaurant, hence the high prices for just about everything. Since it was rainy we had both a dinner and lunch here. The lunch was great, loved the chicken sandwich with good service. Dinner - not so much. It is shared plate style, we ordered 6 between the 2 of us and can honestly say we would only order the squash again, the others, pig candy bar, garden salad, especially were barely edible.

Bar hopping one nice evening in Austin with my wife and daughter. We came here from Four Seasons to try out their bar. No room due to prior reservations, so we went outside by the pool. No atmosphere and also no service. Waitress checked on the table adjacent to us, but said nothing to us. Got up and left and enjoyed some of the other bars on Rainy Street.

This very cool restaurant located in the Van Zandt hotel in downtown Austin is clearly a trendy hipster hotspot. I got the impression they were trying to appeal to the hipster trend to eat small meals or tapas, though the menu design wasn't exactly tapas friendly. Overall the food was decent, though I am not entirely sure if I would agree with the pricing. The menu items that stand out and the popovers with bacon butter, the shrimp hushpuppies, the beet salad, and filet mignon. All were very delicious! Don't miss the view and fun outdoor pool and fireplace. It was raining somethin' fierce when we were there so we couldn't really enjoy the outside ambiance. Still, in the end, I would probably go again. Enjoy!

Looking for a unique experience to celebrate a milestone - this is it! On the 4th floor of the hotel Van Zandt, this restaurant's warm environment and unique menu makes for a perfect place to celebrate with family or friends! Servings come family style, making most selections perfect to share. We made our way through nine options - each made to perfection! The wine and speciality drink list is equally enticing. And then there's the roaring outdoor fireplace with a commanding view of the river, city and sunset. Bon appetite!

Loved it! Would have enjoyed every item on the menu. The ladies working were all super friendly and helpful, and the decor is gorgeous.

When is the last time you asked your bartender for a recommendation and he served you essentially an adult oriented salad? Yep, they did that dressed with a bean pod to boot. Classics to mondo creative, Geraldines is the reason I will stay at the Van Zandt next time I am in Austin. Definately a hotel with a slant to the millenial set but with a real tip of the hat to the left leaning community and its farm to table concepts. That carried through to the entire bar menu where local anything is high on the important list. Service was amazing. Laid back all male bar staff with the a real penchant for understanding their liquor game. Several batch drinks were sitting waiting for the busier evening hours and a few mass made drinks were iced and waiting. I had a Mezcal and passion fruit drink, served with a single cube, rocks glass. Smokey Mexcal combined with real Caribbean flavor but not too sweet. Avaitions, Negroni's and other classics were perfectly done while new funky creative tea based products begged for another visit. Easy seating. Super busy nights. Did not eat this time, but net stay will have us eating for sure.

Great roof top pool. Great lounge and bar area. Great server. Great cocktails. Great small plates (only). Then the band who was good went on mid meal and it was so loud we couldn't talk to our waiter.

We had six dishes including dessert. Two of the dishes were just good, but four were outstanding. The Farmer's Market Salad was probably the best salad I've ever tasted. The Passion Fruit Tart sounded a bit dull on the menu and had a pretty weird-looking presentation, but it was absolutely delicious. My main grip is that the place is overly air conditioned and I should have dressed more warmly. Take a sweater and enjoy.

Love the bar and unique cocktails. Great Vibe - attached to the outdoor pool bar. Restaurant has live music in the eve. Food is very good with a unique and eclectic feel. FYI - this is not a typical hotel menu. NO chicken finger or burgers etc. THis is grown-up food. You have been so advised!

My wife and I visited this place for an couple's birthday. The dishes are interesting, it's more of a tapas thing. Staff was friendly, could be a little more prompt on making sure we had clean plates and a drink, but the staff's friendliness made it a good experience. If you plan on bringing a Cake from outside sources, be ready to pay the $8.00 per person price. Overall the atmosphere here is a great taste of Austin all under one roof with the live band.

The only thing this restaurant offers for dinner is overpriced tapas. If you’re really hungry for a complete meal, I’d suggest going elsewhere. If you want something light, on the other hand, this might be the right fit...as long as you’re willing to pay the price of a full meal for tapas. Being the main onsite restaurant for the Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt, I hope they’ll consider adding some other dinner menu options.

Food was terrible, menu was terrible, service was terrible. They advertised a live Jazz brunch, which is why we went, there was no music at all. My wife and I had terrible meals that were not properly cooked and absolutely drenched in sauce. Save yourself the time and money and stay away from this place.

Really liked the appetizers and draft beer choice was primo! Enjoyed the laid back atmosphere that I really miss about living in Austin!

Geraldine's offers a tapas-like menu that is truly delicious! The short ribs are addicting, the roasted carrots were perfectly tender and sweet. I think we had maybe 6-7 dishes until we were stuffed. It is moderately priced depending on how many dishes you order. The bar is large and well lit - be there at sunset and it floods with a beautiful orange glow. The service is spot on - the staff know all the dishes and their recommendations were appreciated! Its convenient if you get in late and a relaxing place at the end of a long day. I wish we had more time - we would have gone back a few more times!

Had another Staycation. Derek, Caitlyn, and Ivan are the best. What ever you want! They will hook you up!

Geraldine's is a very cool bar in the Hotel Van Zandt. They serve delicious drinks and cocktails. they offer live music just about every day.

Went there to listen good music and enjoy some tapas style diches. Despite the size of the plates, I left satisfied with really good food. Unfortunately, I was seated next to people that were just talking really loud with no care for the live music. I had requested to be seated close to the music, for an expensive restaurant, I would plan to sit someone interested in the music not next to people talking so much... Otherwise. Good experience!!!

We experienced Geraldine's twice during our stay at the Van Zandt. By far the best thing about it is that it is named after a guinea fowl that used to wander freely around Rainey Street. Otherwise we can only say that, although the food itself was mostly tasty (we sampled some 10-12 different dishes), the meals were bizarre and very rushed. At our 6:30pm reservation, we could not order dessert or another round of drinks, as we had to clear the table for later diners. At our 8:30pm reservation, we finished our dessert and bottle of champagne under the bright, overhead lights Geraldine's turns on at 10:30pm to clean and close up. The bizarre timing issues continue with the menu items, which at Geraldine's are all plates "to share." Plates are not large, and the menu clearly offers mains, sides and appetizers. The weird effect of this shared plate system is that the kitchen makes and sends out dishes in whatever order they become ready. (Enjoy your side of English peas now, and expect your steak in another 20 minutes.) Credit the bizarre structure and not the wait staff for us not receiving a side of greens during one meal, and being charged for two drinks we didn't order at another. Note also that Geraldine's is not open for breakfast or lunch during the week, despite being the hotel's only restaurant. We very much wanted to like Geraldine's, but would only recommend it for drinks poolside. The pool deck at the Van Zandt closes at dusk, but Geraldine's visitors seem to be the exception. Enjoy live music (which you can see and hear through the restaurant windows), a drink, and maybe snacks poolside, and skip the confusing and rushed reservation and meal structure.

A friend and I went twice on one weekend to go to their Kentucky Derby Party & Jazz Brunch. Great service - we lucked out with the same server both times and she was sensational (dark curly hair, but I don't know her name - outstanding)! Fun music, although it started late and ended early. Their Kentucky Hot Browns & Spicy Chicken Sandwich were great, but their Mint Julleps were too sweet. Still, it was the best Derby Party I've been to in ATX!

My daughter and I dined at Geraldine’s for my birthday. It is located in Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt; valet parking; $$$; and a menu inclusive of recipes full of fresh ingredients and innovation built to share with friends and family gathering together. We enjoyed the Parker House Rolls, pork chop, cabbage purée, watermelon radishes, roasted chicken, grilled lemons and potatoes. There was no live band playing during our visit. Soft mood lighting and table votives adorned the restaurant. It was a wonderful birthday evening. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Located in a nice Kimpton hotel. Total cluster for parking and even valet was a challenge and $13 to park. They should include with the brunch. Bill was over $100 for 4 people. Live music was super good! Food was outstanding however. We enjoyed: Gristmill Oatmeal $11 Golden raisin, apple, brown sugar, cream. Egg Omelete $11 Roasted peppers, onion, tomato, spinach, goat cheese. Fried Potato Tot Hash $12 Pulled pork, poached egg, hollandaise. Short Rib Quesadilla $11 Salsa, fried egg, avocado, sour cream. This was the best but small portion.

Dinner was good...solid food and drinks but not our favorite in Austin. Service was ok... would likely recommend for someone staying nearby but not as a destination. Great view of the south congress bats and the kimpton pool thongs...

Came here with colleagues during an offsite. We came on a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was fairly empty, which actually made for a nice setting. Our waitress and her wait staff were extremely attentive and on point with their recommendations. Their restaurant/bar area opens up to the rooftop pool which is a great view, and you can also watch the bats from the pool area. I was a little disappointed with the beer selection, I think I'm just used to a long beer list!

We ate breakfast here twice while we were staying in the Hotel VanZandt as well as drinks. The decor and ambience are really, really nice and also the pool area for drinks. Service was good and food tasty!

An oasis of quiet compared to most restaurants during SXSW. Excellent food, beautifully presented, in relatively small portions. Coffee rubbed Wagyu beef was particularly good. Creative drink menu. Beautiful space on the 4th floor of the hotel van zandt. Very peaceful ambiance compared to most Austin restaurants.

While the menu at first glance did not appeal to us, we found three or four small plates that were actually quite good. While if I were a food critic I might say the menu was a bit pretentious and lacked some comfort type items into it.

Great location, wonderful, creative food. Excellent presentation and drinks. Service was slightly slow due to the large amount of patrons. Tequila old fashioned was very good. I would have a hard time selecting the dish we liked the best, since all we ordered was very good.

Geraldine's is on the 4th floor of the Kimpton Van Zandt hotel in Austin, TX. We reserved a small table for 2 on the "mezzanine" floor that gave us a direct view of the stage for the after dinner live music. Dinner was magic. They specialize in a host of various eclectic dishes that are designed to be shared. So we drank some wine and shared some interesting tastes. We finished with Bailey's neat and listened to Jackie Venson, a young guitarist that blew our socks off! This is one of the great draws for Geraldine's. They have live music almost every night after the dinner hour, starting about 9:30pm. So you have the choice of an early quiet dinner or finishing later to some live music. There are large windows to the kitchen, so you get to watch the chef and assistants do their magic with food. There is a large central bar for couples or singles. And the hotel pool is just outside the restaurant, so if you want to have a nightcap poolside that's there for the taking. Lastly, the restaurant is available to hotel guests and to walk-ins. Geraldine's fit the bill for our anniversary dinner, because there was great food and wine, fun spectacular guitar music by Jackie Venson, and best, it was a quick elevator ride back to the room!

In a hotel, busy place. You order small plates to share. The food was not good, very salty, not interesting and not worth the price. Would not go again but went with a party of 6 and had fun but I could do without the food as it was just not good. Steak most expensive side dish was way to salty. Cerviche fish tacos were way too salty. Fritters were average. Drinks were good and that was all.

Went to Geraldine's upon the recommendation of The NY Times. Everything on the menu is good, the cocktail list is creative, the wine list is solid. The restaurant has a very hip vibe: love the open bar, large tables in the interior dining room, high ceiling, patio seating, great view of downtown Austin. The only thing that's a con is that there is nothing uniquely Austin about the food and cocktails. I felt like I could have been in NYC or San Francisco and gotten the same experience.

I stayed at the hotel in which this restaurant is located and dined here three times. Each time was absolutely amazing. The food, service, and ambiance was all 10/10. Fried chicken sandwich, potato soup, burger, and bloody Mary’s are unreal! My last visit I came in for late night drinks with some friends and had Ant as our server. One of my friends was a bit out of line and he was able to brush it off and still go above and beyond for my group. The kitchen was closed but he managed to bring us chips and salsa, peanuts, and gummy bears with a smile on his face. Service here is unmatched to anything I’ve experienced before.

This restaurant is located on the 4th floor of Kimpton Van Zandt hotel, & reservations are recommended. We stayed in Austin 4 days & this was the BEST restaurant we enjoyed.

We were staying at the kimpton so decided to have breakfast there on our first day. We had French toast with fruit and Texas omelette both delicious coffee and water to wash it down. Seems a popular place for lunch and dinner but with so many other options we just tried for breakfast would recommend.

Everything about Geraldine’s was great. It is a very warm relaxing room, the food was great, the server was friendly and attentive and they had a great jazz band playing music. We will ho back.

Reasonable prices tasty food with a view. On the fourth floor of the Van Zant hotel in down town austin, a window seat offers amazing views of the hill country and down town Austin. Most menu selections around $15. I enjoyed the chicken sandwich and my friend had the chicken and waffles. Outdoor seating next to the pool deck is a great spot for people watching. I will definitely return again.

Trendy, small plates, with great service. Would go back here in a heartbeat, but portions are very small. May want to get an appetizer elsewhere before dinner here. Great craft cocktail menu .

We have been here a ton and it never disappoints. The cocktails are amazing and the food is excellent.

What a really fun atmosphere and experience. If you are into small plates to share bites with friends, this is a fun place to go. On top of the Van Zant hotel, it’s poolside, has an awesome view of the sunset. It’s swanky enough to impress, but not over stuffy. Lots of crowds on a Monday night, but it was great to see the live music was still on the menu. Loved the Ribs, and the Sweet Crispy Leeks with the egg. The Octopus is over the top tasty. I don’t know if they were short staffed, but we had to wait a long time for everything, basic drink service, bar service, and food service. Don’t be too hungry, if you have to wait. Watch out the the scooters that like to weave through traffic, and take up whole lanes. It’s a bit much to deal with late night.

If you are in Austin for one night or two, Geraldine’s is the place to be specially on a weekend. The atmosphere is amazing, live music of a local band and great eats. It’s the happening place.. lots of locals and guests from all over, its charming and very elegant. Loved the Akaushi filet mignon, I wasn’t impressed with their famous jerk marinated pork chops, ( popular dish per our waitress) although it sounded good. You can walk across the street and hit all those bars and nightclubs , a perfect location to kill two birds with one stone!

Wonderful restaurant. Food and ambiance were great, as well as service. They were very accommodating to our large group of college students (I was treating them to dinner, as is the tradition for parents visiting from out of town). I most liked the story of Geraldine, who I first thought was a partridge, but was told she was a guinea hen - a real bird, who walked Rainey Street for 11 years before she died. Even stranger, when I googled guinea hen, those birds are endemic to Africa. Go figure!

I came here for brunch mostly because of the reputation of Kimpton restaurants and good experiences in other cities. Outside on a warm spring morning near people enjoying the pool made for a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. My wife ordered chicken and waffles which was good. I had the omelette. Fair, but not terribly special. I would consider returning, but truly service was pretty poor. The waitstaff was slow, the food took over an hour to deliver. When we inquired with the server after an hour of waiting, the server said “maybe I should check?” No doubt. We asked twice, for Salsa, first when ordering and a polite reminder when food was delivered. Many of us Texan’s don’t eat eggs without. But of course! The response. Yet never to arrive. Austin truly has great eating spots. This one is not one of them. What a shame.

Went to have cocktails and decided to stay for the Tapas like menu. Everything was delicious and incredibly vegetarian friendly. Great location and very chill but upscale vibe. Stayed for the great music after dinner but unfortunately the loud rude and drunk convention crowd wandered in and killed the mood.

Met a friend after work. Service was great and food was tasty (even enjoyed a cauliflower dish and I do not eat cauliflower). Plates are small for sharing so it requires ordering several items per person which increases the total cost. Walked there so do not know about parking situation. Overall great atmosphere, service and food.

We just finished a double date there tonight! The atmosphere is very cool and the food is amazing! We had 9 different dishes and shared them among 4 people.

Food was very good. They serve small plate food. Between the small plates ( the tenderloin was amazing) and the champagne, we had a fun girls dinner.

After an exceptionally long walk along the river my wife & I, along with some friends of ours, stopped in for a late lunch. We really liked the feel of the hotel and the restaurant, found the restaurant service to be agreeable, and thought the food & drinks were quite good. I ordered the fish tacos, an old fashioned, and the "Bees in the Trap" cocktail. My wife ordered a chicken sandwich as well as an additional chicken breast (from the sandwich) because she liked it so much.

If you like pricey Tapas style food, this is the place for you. However, as “Tapas” go, appetizers can be a meal in themselves. We ordered heirloom tomatoes, butternut squash, beets, & BBQ short ribs. As appetizers go, this was the most expensive meal between 3 people I could have imagined for how small the portions are, & I prefer small portions. Drinks were too odd sounding & expensive for me to even experiment. Not sure I understand the allure of all these silly concoctions. I ordered a classic lemon drop & it always amazes me when an upscale bar cannot make a proper one. It was so loud & dark inside this establishment we all used our phone flashlights to read the menu & had to shout to be heard. To summarize: Drinks—Expensive & not up to standard Food—Expensive, small portions, Tapas style appetizers Service—attentive, not rushed

We visited Geraldine's via an opportunity to partake in the chef's tasting menu - all of our dishes were selected by the chef and brought to us by our truly excellent server. So while I can't speak to the whole menu, I can say that the selections made were truly excellent. The crispy pork ribs are a favorite for many at Geraldine's and they truly didn't disappoint. But we were just as impressed with the bourbon glazed cauliflower, grilled short rib, and Texas quail! The carrots we were served that night were the only entree that didn't wow us, but all was still tasty. For us, the standout was truly the short rib which was fall off the bone delicious. The cocktails were well crafted - we tried the Rhu-Barbara Bush, Dona Forget About Me, Honeysuckle Rose, and Notorious F.I.G. All were excellent. For dessert (listen, this was for a birthday...we went a little over the top) we did the Bonfire, Ice Cream cake and the daily sorbet, with the Bonfire as the true standout. We finished with dessert cocktails (the Espresso Martini and the Nanners N'Nuts) the second of which was INCREDIBLE. Seriously, run, do not walk, to get that cocktail. Truly this was one of the best dining experiences we've had in Austin and I highly recommend doing the chef's tasting if you can.

Great any time of day - breakfast, lunch, dinner - all amazing, fresh dishes - traditional with a gourmet twist, great cocktails, selection of local brews and always great entertainment - every night of the week! Even for locals! I love this place, can't wait to go back!

Not wide range of dishes but quality of meal is very good. Despite to low number of items in menu even vegetarians can find something interesting to eat. Service is perfect.

We can't say enough great things . .. The food was eclectic, adventurous, delicious. The best part was by far our waiter, Gary; informative, fun, personable, full of great suggestions. Get several plates to share- carrots & short ribs are a must. (Business Dinner for 6)

The fried beets and the red fish were both amazing. We sat by the window with views of Austin. Our server was friendly and attentive. Plates come out of the kitchen when they are ready and the pacing was perfect. They recommend 3-5 menu items and we picked 4 and had leftovers. We would return.

Came in for an evening of live music. Quick and easy access to the elevator. However when I got upstairs, I got several stares from staff members. As if I was there and was lost. Others just kept their heads down as to not make eye contact. However the purpose was live music... and that was fantastic!!!!!!

Loved the Quinoa breakfast. Great coffee, excellent service. Everyone enjoyed their breakfast. One of our party did lament that there was not a great gluten free/dairy free option for dinner and felt the menu was limited.

Stopped by for a quick late lunch on the weekend and got exactly what we were looking for--interesting local choices, good food, a pleasant and helpful server and a view of the buzz by the pool. My wife was quite pleased with her Market Ceviche and I enjoyed my Fried Chicken Sandwich---matched with a nice glass of white wine---it all worked.

We had a prime table by the band (how lucky were we?), delicious food, super service, and an all-around great time. Booked in advance of trip, but recommended by Uber driver who got us at the airport too.

We were there for Sat music brunch. Music was fantastic. Original songs by a local singer songwriter. Next time, we’ll just come for the music and drinks. The food and service was fine. Atmosphere is casual and hip - poolside. Beautiful people. But the portions were small and every dish was expensive for what we got. Left hungry .

Incredible food at Geraldine’s, all sharing plates accompanied by the funkiest band playing- Lucas Johnson’s band ( amazing !) which lent itself to a fantastic evening of food and music. Thank you so much, cannot wait to return next year. Highly recommend the bourbon glazed cauliflower...it’s was all incredible. Thank you so much!

Geraldine's is a great place to enjoy a delicious meal with friends. The shared plates are a fantastic way to try a variety of dishes, and the food was all very flavorful. Unfortunately, the music was a bit too loud to have a proper conversation, and our waitress wasn't very friendly. Overall, I would still recommend Geraldine's for their delicious food and lively atmosphere.

I really enjoyed my stay in the Van Zandt for the SXSWedu conference, but Geraldine's was decidedly the weakest link in the hotel's experience chain. The food is solid, but the service was really tough. No sense of urgency, repeatedly had to ask for refills on coffee--that's essential when the table is clearly full of folks dressed for business meetings!--and noted waitresses repeatedly looking at cell phones in view of patrons. Really liked the decor, and found the atmosphere really conducive to good conversation. Wish I could give it a better rating, but the service is hard to overlook.

Loved our Sunday brunch. Listened to R&B while relaxing with mimosas, strawberry French toast, quinoa salad, fried chicken sandwich. Great place for a special occasion.

We are staying at the hotel for our 20th wedding anniversary. The roasted beets are wonderful. The cocktails are wonderful. The service is great. We really didn’t like the swordfish. It’s blah. Skip it. The short ribs are delicious. They didn’t acknowledge or do anything special for our anniversary which is kind of a bummer. I did indicate it was our anniversary when I made the reservation. I’d say this is an excellent date night restaurant but save your truly special occasions for somewhere else. Oh, almost forgot to mention that our waitress was fun. The atmosphere is very swanky & enjoyable.

Food and service were all first class. Vibe is much cooler than what I expected from a hotel restaurant. The menu covers an interesting variety and provides attractive options for vegetarians. I would recommend whether staying in the hotel or otherwise

This was a really unexpected experience. Went to the hotel’s restaurant where I was staying for a quick bite. The menu is eclectic and different in many ways. No obvious starters / mains separation, just a list of carefully curated items, with some exotic touches. I won’t go in the details of the menu, it is better for you to do yourself a favour and discover it yourself.

Great rooftop bar, the peach cocktail is fantastic! The vibe is chill, you can dress up or down which is always a bonus in my book. We didn't eat here, but the food coming out looked delicious. I loved the decor & service was nice. A different, more chill vibe if you want to opt out of the Rainey St. bars with the frat boys :-)

We stayed at the hotel and it was an easy place for dinner. We went the first night and ordering small plates for 6 people cost about $350.00 total. We ate well, had 6 drinks and 3 deserts but still it was a lot for that type of meal Breakfast was very good and reasonable Would highly recommend it even if you are not staying at the hotel

We stopped by for an early dinner on our arrival in Austin. A bit jet lagged so too tired to wait for the music but if it was anything like the food it was excellent. We both enjoyed a cocktail, with frascinating tasty twists. Kate our server was friendly and informed and went out of her way to really speak to us about both the restaurant and Austin ( we didn't know about Austin's famous bats!). We had two small dishes, the chicken fried duck egg which was exquisite and then the smoked carrots which had beautiful flavours. Then fried chicken and blackened red fish from the gulf. Really good, and thank you Kate particularly for such a great first night. So sorry we were ready for bed by 8.30pm, or 2.30am as it was for us!

Overpriced and not good. Perhaps it was the items we ordered, however I feel like I could have gotten better items at IHOP for way less money or the same amount. The live music was good. Pool is right next door. Sat next to a window overlooking a parking lot on the front side of the hotel. It was a miss for us unfortunately.

Great location and the breakfast was even better. The view and the vibe was excellent. The coffee was the best we had when visiting austin!

If you are looking for special menu with creative touch and at the same time in line with Texas taste, try the dishes from this restaurant . I just have to say excellent !

We ate at Geraldine's with a party of 4. The menu is set up a la carte so each person ordered 2 items then we shared. The shrimp hush puppies were very tasty but do not seem to contain pieces of shrimp. The ceviche tostada was also good. Do not order the carrots. They were okay but not great. The balsamic cauliflower was unusual and yummy. One person ordered dessert that sounded like custard on a croissant. None of us liked it, so we were offered another dessert fashioned after s'mores. It was much better.

We were staying at the Kimpton so I planned to make things simple to make a reservation at Geraldines. It seriously did not disappoint! From our server giving us the run down of ingredients in each dish. He was very knowledgeable. Everything was a flavor explosion! And when he said our food would start "flowing" it was an accurate description of how our food was served. Every dish is shareable, and it comes out a few at a time. We opted with biscuits that melted in your mouth! Quail, my first time having quail, spectacular! The crispy pork ribs, phenomenal! The sweet potatoes and Brussels were divine! The flat iron steak was cooked to perfection. Was the most agreeable meal in Austin! Would definitely recommend! Make a reservation

We loved it! Alums of Odd Duck are now in charge of the kitchen. All plates were inventive, well executed, and delicious. Several vegetable dishes were superb, creative, and masterfully done. Some at our table had beef and fish main plates, and all received oohs and ahs. The cocktails were imaginative, and the desserts, fine. The ambience has the feel of a more subtle Stephan Pyles' old Star Canyon in Dallas. In fact, in a culinary sense, this place is the closest to his style or that of Dean Fearing in Dallas than any other restaurant currently in Austin. The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional as well. We love fine food in Austin and are very pleased to have a new star on the horizon.

About 12 of us went to Geraldine’s after a day of business meetings. We had tons of the appetizers - my favorites were the fried green tomatoes and the Brussels sprouts. The ambience and food was great but the band was playing when we got there and it made talking really difficult. By the end my throat hurt from having to speak super loudly to be heard. I’d go back on a quieter evening.

Food good, but do NOT sit on patio for famous sunset view..there is none! Just view of skyscraper construction and metal!

The atmosphere is nice. The food was mixed. The carrots and potatoes were yummy. But it was very very hard to like the shrimp when you are paying $32 and it arrives with only 5 shrimp. Our waitress was pleasant and stopped by regularly. But other servers bring the food and they just throw it on the table. Overall we found the evening unpleasant and overpriced.

Website doesn't work. Phone service nonexistant. Been there many times with reasonable food experience, but with their poor service, I' never go back. I'd find a chain restaurant first.

Located inside the new Kimpton Van Zandt hotel near Austin's Rainey Street, Geradline's is a well thought out restaurant with a good bar scene (with creative bar tenders) and excellent high end "Tapas" type food. This caught me by surprise, as based on the price points, I did not expect to be sharing plates with others. That said, it works for the food. There is a good variety on the menu and everything we had was very good. We started with the Ceviche Tacos (Cobia), which were fresh and satisfying, we ended up ordering more. My table mates then had the cornmeal fried oyster mushrooms, which they really like (not my thing personally). We then split three larger plates, the whole trout (well cooked and flavorful), the Gulf Coast fish of the day (also Cobia with a excellent blackening season mix and tomatillo relish), and the bbq short ribs (melt in your mouth with a good crunchy vegi mixture of carrots, cucumber and jalapeno). The service was also outstanding.

We were there for the jazz brunch, but the music started much later than we expected, so we completely missed out. The service was good. There were no decorations, music, food/drink specials to make it feel like the holidays - bah humbug! The food was ok, but nothing I'd make a special trip back for. The prices for brunch were ok, but adding the $20 valet parking + tip on top made it rather spendy

We were a group of 8, and shared several different small plates. The popovers were really good, as was the beef dish. We ordered enough for our hunger to be satisfied. The ambiance is really nice and overall I’d say this is a higher end restaurant.

Geraldine's is located on the floor of the Van Zaandt hotel in Austin. You reach it via an elevator in the lobby of the hotel. The restaurant is very hip and trendy. Our large group of 12 sat at a high top table. The restaurant serves small plates (tapas style), so we started ordering several different items. All of these were excellent. In particular the Akaushi Filet Mignon with a purple potato puree and chimichurri was fantastic. Also the Gnocchi with Oxtail, shiitake mushroom, and hunter sauce was incredible flavorful. They also have an extensive selection of wine, spirits, and cocktails. Would recommend making reservation.

I have been going to Geraldine's for several years to hear their live music and have a late dinner. While I loved the venue, I just loathed going there- the staff was always rude and unpleasant. I can't tell you how many times my friends and I would wait patiently for the host to even acknowledge we were standing there. And rude? Oh yes. It became a running joke- we would bet how long it would take for the host to even make eye contact. Ugh just UGH. If it wasn't to support some of their local live music acts I would NEVER have returned. However when I was there last week things were completely different. Starting with the phone call when I made the dinner reservation. The lady on the phone was cheerful- say what? Then when we arrived the hostess was delightful. So was the waiter. Friendly/cheerful/helpful! Seriously- the contrast was amazing. It was a delightful evening. I ordered the Chapalote Grits with Oxtail and mole negro. Oh my word. It was amazing. The flavors, the textures just everything. It was too spicy for my friend but I LOVED it. My friend ordered the smoked carrots and proclaimed them delicious. The food was amazing but the portions are minuscule and it's rather expensive. We were still hungry when we left. The on-tap beer however is reasonably priced.

Great place to dine and escape all the craziness of Rainey. The cocktails are hand-crafted and professionally presented...and delicious. They have an outside bar which is located on the pool deck of the Van Zandt (Kimpton) hotel where you can sit alongside the pool or in a cabana if available. A bit pricey but the service makes it worth it as well as the people watching.

Great live music during brunch. There were many large tables celebrating birthdays. We had excellent service and presented with complementary caramel pecan dessert. Standard breakfast plate was terrific.
Food Excellent.....Service Questionable
Food was excellent However, service was slow which included drinks and entrees. We had to ask a couple of times for the last entrée which we believe was never ordered along with our other requests. Loved the hushpuppies and gnocchi. The Apple Business dessert was to die for.
