Great view and food!

By MissMa413 |

We were celebrating our 2nd anniversary and he happened to surprise me with this lunch as we were in Chicago visiting family. The view on the patio was fabulous...highly recommend making reservations and getting a seat on the patio facing the river. I was already in awe with the view of the beautiful city and when our food arrived, I didn't think much of it. Everything was delicious but the real winner was the filet mignon sliders...very simple, no accompaniments but the burst of flavor...yum!! The restaurant was very sweet and attentive and surprised us with dessert that said Happy Anniversary on it. Loved the thoughtfulness and detailed touches. Already told a few friends and family members about this place!

Fantastic Restaurant!

By Chuck W |

The ambiance in this place is electric and the views are stunning. The shell fish platter has tasty fresh shrimp, oysters, etc. The meatballs are terrific as well. The wine selection is deep and the waiter / sommelier guide you through your tastes and how to pick the right wine for the food you plan to eat. The main courses were off the charts. I chose the veal parmigiana. It was the best I've had. We will hit this place every time we visit Chicago.

Unreasonable wait for our 8:30 reservation

By Lynn M |

We arrived at 8:20 for our reservation and were not seated until 9:30, and then only after checking back in with the hostess ourselves. The bar was too crowded to find a seat and the wait was unpleasant. Once seated, our experience turned around and both the food and waitstaff was excellent. The views are also spectacular.

MODERN, PHANTASTIC VIEW

By n0rbert07 |

In this modern environment, with magnificent views over the river, you can enjoy relatively modernized Americanized Italian food of first class quality.

View alone is worth it

My wife and I went here for our anniversary and were absolutely blown away by the service. It seemed as though our waiter Scott was only waiting on our table, he could not have given us better service. I would highly recommend getting both a pasta and a steak. The pastas are small and perfect size for an appetizer between two people. The views of the river are perfect and the wine list is absolutely incredible. No matter what your preferences they have something on the list that will impress you.

DISSAPOINTING

By Livewire2014 |

My family and I visited the restaurant on 4/6 for my birthday dinner. The reservation was at 7pm and we arrived at 6:45 knowing the table likely wouldn’t be ready. As suspected, we were invited to wait in the bar and have a cocktail if desired until the table was ready. While waiting in the bar, we began watching the time pass and noticing others being sat before us. Eventually at 7:20 we went to the host stand and commented that it was 20 minutes past our reservation. Much to our surprise, we were told that we arrived late for our reservation and a table wasn’t available. Our family was shocked that this was the way the host responded, knowing we were in fact early. After another 10 minutes, we went to the stand again and this time were passed onto a manager. While she was kind to us, she suggested we squeeze into a table behind the noisy bar, while our initial request was to have a table in the dining room facing the river seeing as it was my birthday. We had to debate this for another 15 minutes before finally being allowed upstairs. Once we arrived in the dining room, we waited another 5-10 minutes before being seated.. The service at the table was lackluster, and there were various incidents that made the evening unenjoyable. For instance, we were told the restaurant did not serve club soda, which we knew to be incorrect. The waiter also forgot to put in one of our appetizers and once we brought it up it was no longer desired. Finally, I requested a Diet Coke that was never brought. The meal was rushed and did not feel appropriately timed at all. My steak was mediocre at best Overall my family was incredibly disappointed with the evening, especially after hearing such great reviews from others. On the positive side the view was great. This was my 60th birthday celebration and it was very dissapointing.

Amazing view

By TravelingJo2014 |

We were there for a private lunch on the rooftop terrace. The view of the city architecture with the river running through it was stunning. On a beautiful summer day with the doors open, it was an exceptional Chicago city experience. I'm not sure if the restaurant a floor down has the same view but if so, then it is definitely worth coming to enjoy it. Service was excellent and food was delicious. I would recommend if you are looking to host a special event in Chicago.

Great Steaks and Beautiful Views

By KCG49 |

Great steaks (same as the "old" Gibsons). Beautiful Views of the Chicago River. One of the nicest things is that because of its location you don't get the tourist crowd like you do at Gibsons in the Gold Coast. Its virtually all locals and business people. Service is superb. The only downside is that it is very pricey. But for a business dinner or a romantic dinner overlooking the river it's wonderful..

WOW-Gibson's has outdone themselves!

By OBXTKN2 |

We have been meaning to get here for months and now I am kicking myself that we waited so long! A great setting on the river with spectacular views and the food was fantastic. The vibe in the place is also very cool and the service was spot on. We will be here on a regular basis as we are locals and this has become another "go-to" in a big way!

Good place to grab a drink

By Nez D |

Loved the atmosphere and The outdoor seating. Nice views of the river and surrounding buildings. The service was very good. The prices were on the higher side but that was fine as it was more of an experience and you were paying for the location. We ordered Old Fashions and they were just okay but everything else was perfect

Great Atmosphere and the best view in the City

By Eggs74 |

I went to dinner with two good friends. We had a table near the window because it was too hot and windy to eat outside. The service we had was great, the view was better and the food was exceptional. I will return with my wife.

One of the Best Steak Houses in Chicago, can’t go wrong with beautiful views, incredible food and phenomenal service!

By Renee G |

One of the best restaurants in Chicago! Incredible views of the river and city, outstanding service and delicious food. We feel like family when we arrive, John Pienta and Adam Solberg are usually our waiters and two of most incredible staples of GI. John is always incredibly helpful and his recommendations whether couples night or out with friends are always spot in! William Murphy is the GM and is always available and ready to ensure we have an incredible experience. Caccio de peppa and focaccia are our favorite appetizers. We also love the seafood towers. Steaks are phenomenal w a side of Brussel sprouts, fries and hen of woods mushrooms… what else to have a perfect dinner. We are high on life after our recent dinner with friends. Have nothing but great things to say about this incredible restaurant.

Great experience!

Beautiful restaurant with great views of Chicago. Service was top notch and the food amazing! We had a wonderful experience - thank you!

Mandatory presence in Chicago.

By CarlosLobao |

We went to the restaurant on the indication of a friend who lives in Chicago, we could not have made a better choice. Gibson’s is all good, definitely the best meal during our stay in the city. The restaurant is very beautiful and classudo, an impeccable service from Ashley and the manager Noah always present checking the satisfaction of the customers. Completely all that, very well-made drinks, a delicious meal with quality ingredients, a wine list of the best and a breathtaking view of the Chicago River. Prices compatible with the Mood. Definitely recommend.

Very good and celebrities

By Moni |

This was my third or fourth time visiting Gibsons Italia. Today, I had the seafood platter (Alaskan King crab, lobster cocktail, and prawns), bucatini (homemade gold-extruded pasta with pine nuts and mint pesto), carmelle (homemade gold-extruded pasta stuffed with ricotta and winter black truffles ← AMAZING), and the A5 Kobe wagyu (← MUST GET). Everything was excellent. I had a bite of the NY strip from someone that was with me but the wagyu was 100 times better. I would get the A5 wagyu if you are ok with fatty meats. It has so much flavor and it literally melts in your mouth. A few famous celebrities walked in during dinner. So I guess this is the place to be nowadays in Chicago.

Another Gibsons, another great dining experience

By Taylor B |

If you like Gibsons Bar and Steakhouse on Rush Street in Chicago, you'll love Gibsons Italia. Why did it take us so long to discover this place? It is the Gibson Restaurant Group's newest restaurant, a high-style Italian steak and pasta spot on three levels with a vast wine list, two fireplaces, a roof deck and spectacular views of the Chicago River and downtown Chicago. Located at 233 North Canal Street, overlooking the west bank of the Chicago River, it is a modern steakhouse with an Italian accent. "Familiar made exceptional" is the motto. Lots of glass and brass, floor to ceiling windows, outdoor seating in the summer, wood paneling, chef Jose Sosa's enchanting menu. It all adds up to a magnificent fine dining experience. My wife and I started with Colossal U-12 prawns, king crab bisque, Italia meatballs with corso ricotta and pecorino romano and Caesar salad with toasted bread crumbs. For an entree, my wife chose veal osso buco, slow braised with saffron risotto and veal jus, sauteed spinach and French potato puree. I couldn't resist the roasted Mediterranean Branzino with Meyer lemon caper sauce and herb salad, mushrooms and French potato puree. Whenever I see Branzino on the menu (and it appears more frequently), I must order it, a delicious and meaty Greek fish I discovered for the first time in Florida a few years ago. For dessert, we shared a portion of banana gelato with oreo crust, salted caramel and bruleed bananas and a large slice of Italian hazelnut cake, a layered chocolate cake with caramel praline and vanilla gelato. Open from 11 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday, Gibsons Italian makes for a go-to destination for a romantic birthday or anniversary celebration.

Excellent service and food!

By Lecia |

Made reservations 2-3 weeks in advance. This is a very popular place so if you want to go, make your reservations weeks in advance. The service was impeccable from the time we walked in to the end of our meal. We had beef carpaccio to start, EXCELLENT! The beef melted in your mouth. I had a 4oz. filet mignon and my husband had the bone in prime rib. Both were to die for! Cooked to perfection. I had a side of mushrooms which were also very good. Both my husband and I shared the homemade spaghetti. The only thing I would give negative feedback on is the spaghetti. I know it is supposed to be al dente BUT this was undercooked. The noodles were sticking to my teeth. Other than that, I would definitely go back for the beef. The dessert was an apple tart with drizzled caramel sauce. Delicious. Now to mention the view, wonderful. There isn't a bad seat in the house!

New Deal

By fjferaco |

I've eaten in the top italiener restaurants around the world from Rome Florence to the UK to Spain to South America and most major cities in The United States. Gibson Italia is one of the best I've ever had the pleasure of dining in. In a word Superbe Reservations are now 1 to 1 and a 1/2 months ahead. If you find yourself in Chicago look ahead you won't be sorry.

Best Pasta of my life

By Courtney H |

I enjoyed the prosciutto board (excellent) and loved the pasta special. I have never been served so many truffles with my pasta (they were life changing in the best way possible), the pepper sauce was also amazing! I will definitely return for another visit!

Top Notch

By paintgirlchgo |

Top Notch in every aspect. We were a party of 15 - from steaks to fish to pasta, cocktails, service, view and ambience — perfect. Highly recommend the petite filet and salmon dishes. Tiramisu and Banana Gelato were delish - only wish they offered the same HUGE wedge of chocolate cake that Gibson’s Steak House offers. We were celebrating a 90th and a 22nd birthday - and Team Gibson’s made it memorable. Thank you!

EXCELLENT

By Vivyrom |

We went for lunch. amazing atmosphere. On the 2nd floor. Excellent attention. We had octopus carpachio and crab pie. DElicious both. The place is huge. It has a long bar and different kinds of tables. Very nice decoration.

Great grilled octopus and branzino! But it's loud.

By 2020worldtraveler2020 |

Nice views of the city and the food was good—the grilled octopus appetizer was outstanding, and the branzino was cooked perfectly (Brussels sprouts sides were a little over-charred but still good). The only downside was it was a little loud.

Not what I was expecting

By Brooklyn |

When booking the reservation it asked if there were any special events, I listed a birthday as that is why we were going to the restaurant. The reservation also asked about any allergies or conditions, I put in that one of the guests was allergic to all nuts. After being seated a while, we mentioned to the waiter that it was our friend's birthday and he acted like this was new information. At the end of the night they brought out a birthday dessert and three forks, but the dessert was covered in nuts. Seems silly to ask in the reservation when it was obviously not communicated to the staff. Additionally, there was a lot of staff standing around but our waiter didn't check on us very often, we had to wait a while for refills on our drinks. We saw the busboy more often than the waiter, and he didn't speak a single word to us even when we spoke to him. This was my first experience in a really nice restaurant, so I was very disappointed with the level of service. Also, the tables are so close together that when we tried to leave our booth, a man sitting at a table in front of us had to get up and stand to the side. The food was delicious and the view was amazing, but for the price point, I was expecting not to feel completely crowded and to have a more attentive server.

An experience

By Joseph C |

The dining experience offered is, overall, very positive and enjoyable. The restaurant is gorgeous and offers spectacular river views. Our party's appetizers and entrees were very good and the service was outstanding. Cocktails are well prepared ( if not quite up to the generous serving sizes traditional at other Gibson establishments.) Noise levels in much of the restaurants are high. The desserts here are,in contrast to everything else, not even slightly good. Prices are very high. Details follow: LOCATION & SPACE: The restaurant is located on the river in a purpose built luxury low rise structure located between high end office and residential structures. The following is an apt description from the EATER website."The trilevel restaurant has a bar and lounge on the first floor, a main dining room on the second, and a rooftop bar on the third. Onyx walls and marble tables give it a sleek look, while fireplaces and neutral leather chairs add warmth. The minimalist shelves with artfully placed gold and stone sculptures are contemporary, as are the pops of color on the lounge throw pillows, while white tablecloths and wood paneling in the main dining room are more classic." We were advised to make a very early week-night reservation in order to get a window table in the main dining room. At 5pm, after checking in on with efficient staff at the entrance, there was a long line for the solitary elevator which was jammed with prosperous looking young professionals perhaps from nearby offices. Seemed like every possible place to sit on the second floor was fully occupied by 5:30pm. FOOD & DRINKS: Considering the name of the restaurant there doesn't seem to be much here that is Italian. There is a menu category of house made pastas which may be very good but no one at or table or anyone around us seemed to have ordered any. The focus here is steak. At our table we began with crab salads. Everyone at our table ordered a small filet which they raved about except, I ate a scrumptious cod dish which, tasted more like a dish prepared in a fine French restaurant, The side dishes of potatoes or vegetable are all expensive al la carte items and very tasty. Too bad that small pasta servings cannot be ordered in place of vegetable or potatoes at the same price levels as vegetables. As I said in the opening, cocktails are very good but not as generous as those served at Hugo's, Gibson's Rush Street or RL which I believe go a long way in having those restaurants become stand- outs in a crowded business. Because we had the window seats the noise levels were not uncomfortable. Friends at a middle table said it was too noisy. Lots of large groups add to the din. The desserts look wonderful and our hazelnut cake portion could have fed 10 people but it was an overly sweet concoction of super market quality which left a nasty aftertaste. The gelato did not taste special, or maybe the hazelnut mess, which everyone tasted, interfered with the gelato flavors. Considering the price levels here, even though the desserts themselves are, deservedly, not expensive, desserts here were not up to the overall restaurant experience. SERVICE: At the restaurant entrance and on each floor there are efficient welcoming staff to get customers situated. Service at all levels while dining was gracious and efficient. Our server, Sakuna, made the evening more enjoyable.

Private and Perfect

By Cliff B |

This weekend we hosted a small (35) private reception at Gibson Italia for immediate family/closest friends for our daughters wedding reception. It began with moving in our personal decor and management staff was exceptionally helpful in bringing it in and setting up to meet our needs. The room was perfect for our needs with an outstanding view of the frozen river and beautiful downtown after dark. Staff helped load our music and the setup was ideal for 25 adults and our ten under 10 years of age children. Yes, quite the challenge. Because of the number of meals, it was decided that 'family style' was the best alternative and it was handled perfectly with every course timed well with each item deliciously prepared... from the seafood towers right down to the gelato bar. The management and service personnel were attentive and plentiful with every glass always filled and plates cleared on time. The premium bar was well stocked and the bartender was friendly and more than willing to 'custom' anything we could name The kids had three small round tables where toys, games and two 'sitters' we hired held court and kept their attention throughout and when they 'strayed' into service personnel space, they were gracious and maintained a pleasant perspective. There was one especially noteworthy manager that filled in to help with loading film and wrangling the few 'strays'. I would highly recommend Gibson Italia if your looking for a private party with an excellent view, service and food that is handled in an outstanding professional manner. I'm 'out of daughters', but would certainly use them again, if needed.

Great!

With the corona we dined outside. The setting is beautiful. We had different things to share...spaghetti, branzino, shrimp cocktail and more. Everything was great but a little disappointed with the spaghetti since it is an Italian restaurant. We had a wonderful dining experience!

Top restaurant

Must eat here if you are in Chicago. Best view on Chicago skyline, food is great especially 7 year aged risotto. Service is very professional . Will come back !! Thank you

Exceeded our Expectations

By REAP5055 |

So, I've been here a couple of times for business, because it is close to our office. A close friend had a birthday and I convinced her to try their steak because another local steakhouse was her favorite. To say their bone-in medium cooked ribeye exceeded her expectation would be an understatement. It is pricey but well worth it. Across the group were orders of sea bass, filet mignon, australian grass fed and a tomahawk. All were excellent with only 1 exception. DO NOT order filet mignon well or medium well, allow them to prepare as recommended so the outer meat isn't over-cooked. Great service, beautiful ambiance, and valet service is provided. A must on your list for those who enjoy good steak.

Paying for the view…

By brmusicman |

Mixed experience. We had family in-town and wanted to treat them to something special, so we made reservations at Gibsons Italia, knowing that it features a fantastic view of the Chicago River. It also seemed like a ‘safe’ bet for family members who like pretty basic menus full of recognizable ingredients. The positives: —The view, from both the lounge and the dining room, is indeed lovely; you have a gorgeous view looking east down the Chicago River. The restaurant is perfectly positioned at the confluence of the River’s branches. Beautiful before, during, and after sunset. —The food was good! Salads were perfectly dressed, a hamachi appetizer was delicious, salmon was perfectly cooked with classic sides, and the steaks were wonderful; I left understanding why steak lovers love Gibsons. —Our table wasn’t ready upon arrival, so we had a seat in the lounge. It wasn’t overly crowded, it had a good (if slightly corporate/generic) vibe with pleasant lounge music, and the cocktails were totally delicious. —Superb wine selection. The negatives: —The NOISE in dining room. Deafening and unpleasant—and this comes from a person who likes places with a vibe and typically doesn’t mind noisier restaurants. We were even on the edge of the dining room—and we still could not hear one another across a small table for four. We all commented that the loud volume actually made our ears hurt; the next morning, all four of us were hoarse from screaming, such was the volume of the restaurant. It was so loud we largely communicated with our server by pointing to menu items. Again, I don’t mind a place with an atmosphere, but the deafening noise actually made for a pretty unpleasant experience. —Ambivalent service. It wasn’t bad, but it was factory-like. Our waiter made no attempt to establish rapport (he couldn’t have been heard, even if he tried), and the service felt robotic, especially for the price point. The same was true in the lounge; at an establishment like this, I shouldn’t have to get-up and track someone down just to pay my tab. —Hosts that bordered on the obnoxious. I found it especially off-putting when I asked the host if the restaurant would transfer our bar tab to our table (we were waiting on them, after all) and I was snottily told that it was “really the restaurant’s preference” if we could just pay it before we went to our table. —Extremely expensive for what it is. Again, the food was good. But it was not as good as the per-person price point suggests. This is a show-off restaurant: big business dinners, impressing a date, ordering that crazy expensive bottle of wine because you can, etc. You’re paying for that scene and, certainly, the view. Was it bad? No. Are there way better places in Chicago—food, service, atmosphere, character—for the price? Absolutely.

Amazing Food!!! Amazing Service!!! Will be coming back and bringing friends

By BrianG877 |

Anthony Issa - Customer Relations Manager went out of his way to make sure our group had everything they needed. Food was the best we had on our stay in Chicago, and what a view!

Consistently outstanding food and service

By mwmesq |

My wife and I have dined here three times, mostly recently last week for our anniversary, and every experience has been wonderful. The atmosphere is definitely more hip than the other Gibson's restaurants but not over the top. I actually think this is the best of the restaurants in their stable. We split a steak and the cacio e pepe which were both excellent. Can't wait to go back...

Best filet I have ever eaten

By bigrunsaturday |

Ambiance and view while you are eating the best food, this is the place to come to,.in what Chicago calls River North. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and the place for that special evening. I cannot wait to have the pleasure of going back. If it has Gibsons in the name you know it has to be special.

Fantastic view, food and service

By Hal K |

We arrived early and went to the fourth floor for a drink and an amazing view. When our table was ready we went down a floor to the main dining room where we were greeted promptly and taken to our table with another amazing view. I couldn't see a bad seat in the whole dining room. Then we started with a welcome of a Prosecco toast and perused the wine list. I'm no wine expert but it was well organized with a broad selection by region. Finally the food! My wife and I had two different fish dishes and both were amazing. My Chilean sea bass was perfectly cooked and the flavors were spot on. Then desert and back upstairs for music, wine and more of the killer view. Can't wait to go back.

Great food and energetic scene

By Unikuorn |

The food here is excellent, along with the service and views. A bit pricey, but a great place to enjoy a business meal. I've enjoyed both lunch and dinner here, and the noise level is pretty high, although not bad enough to not enjoy the conversation at your table. Just know that the scene here is not subdued or serious.

Amazing meal with a better view

By mfs387 |

Wife and I had a stellar meal. Started with the arancini which may have been the best part of the meal. decided to have the scallop risotto to split along with the cacio pepe and a ribeye. Service was spot on. Food was pretty good. Steak was a bit on small side and risotto was a bit runny for my liking but i would go back in a heart beat

Fabuloso!

By Rick W |

Went in with high hopes and wasn't disappointed. Beautiful decor. Staggering city views. Extraordinary food. Menu isslim but there's enough diversity to go expensive or modest. A highly recommended visit.

A cool spot serving up tasty steaks

By Rocketman780 |

It's a rare find when you chance upon a restaurant that has a great vibe, location and the food is out-of-this-world. Although we only tried a few dishes, I cannot imagine going wrong with any item on their menu. The emphasis is clearly on quality of produce and then cooking it to perfection. We sampled the double cut porterhouse and bone-in ribeye with brussels sprouts and chips. Washed down with Californian Prisoner. Heaven!

Riverfront Italian Delight

By Loven Posey |

A stylish, upscale Italian restaurant beautifully situated along the Chicago River. We enjoyed a great window table, exceptional service that surpassed expectations, and delicious dishes from start to finish. Would love to return!

A Surprise Disappointment

By edyrp |

The best part about this restaurant was the magnificent river view. It was downhill from there. We arrived early for our reservation. Our group of three was sent to an over-crowded, noisy bar to wait. It felt like a cattle call. We were seated close to our reservation time, in the middle of the dining room. Large trays of food and dirty dishes were carried over my companion's head throughout the night. I found myself holding my breath at times as a result. The restaurant was so loud that we could barely speak to the person beside us. The service was abysmal. Each time our waiter came to our table he would start to answer a question or talk to us about ordering and then said "I have to serve the food that just came up at another table". He did this three times. I don't know how they would accommodate a patron in a wheel chair. The aisles are narrow and there are waiters carrying large trays. There are very few Italian dishes on the menu. The selections were more like Gibsons with a European slant, and nothing we ate was that great, except for the freshly baked focaccia bread which was brought to the table before dinner. When I went to the ladies room, there was no toilet paper. The trash can for the hand towels was full, and overflowed onto the floor. I'm not kidding. Come on, Gibsons! You have a reputation to uphold. Additionally, this place is positioned as a higher-end restaurant. When things are sub-standard, one feels robbed. There are plenty of good restaurants in this foodie town, and this was not one of them. I don't plan to give them another chance.

Lovely!

A native Chicagoan recommended Gibson's to us, and we're glad we listened! We had a great experience here, from the steak and wonderful pasta to the service and the views.

One of our favorite restaurants

By minnesotans4 |

Whenever we visit Chicago, this restaurant is always on our list. The view of Chicago is spectacular. The service is always impeccable and most importantly the food absolutely delicious. We always order the east coast oysters and the filet mignon sliders.

10 out of 10

We celebrated Mother's Day with dinner on Saturday night. Great table, fantastic service, Patrick Barnes is the best.

Skip It!

By Shelleeta |

Lets Begin, We made a reservation and asked for a view. First we were seated in the bar dining area at a back table, we asked for a different table. We were then seated at a table located closer to the window which overlooked empty patio tables. We were never given the choice of the restaurant on the 3rd floor. I am sure that location has a good view. The server was fine though not very helpful. I think rather inexperienced. Appetizers:. Caesar Salad - Tasteless Broccolini Salad - Better than the Caesar Artichoke - Good Small portions, we didn't have enough food and there was zero suggestion by the server. Main: The Steak: (we came here for the steak and the view) NY Strip - Very Good and cooked as ordered Chicago cut- Nothing Special -Skip it French puree - tasteless Bernaise - a joke..send the cook back to school (We wanted a Veg and the offering was out of season Asparagus) Dessert: Tiramisu - acceptable Spumoni - not sure what this concoction is, I remember the original Banana Gelato Tart - the best of the lot. Ambiance: From another reviewer and repeating here :"young women who were so happy to be here ( their dates didn't get it), the Bro culture in full bloom, lots of middle aged people wanting to be hip, business people doing business and every body else just "being there"" And its very loud! Don't go for the food. Its the scene , if you care. With all this said : There must be better places in Chicago, hope so.

Amazing service & Amazing Food!

By dawnne r |

My friends & I came to Gibsons Italia to celebrate our friend's birthday. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly host team. We were seated indoors in the 3rd-floor dining room. The view of the Chicago River was beautiful from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Our server Elijah was incredible. He was so personable & knowledgeable about the menu. He guided us through the menu, helping us choose the best courses. The food was absolutely outstanding. Elijah's amazing service & attention to detail, made our birthday girl feel so special. Definitely gives us a reason to come back. 5 Star afternoon for sure!

Fantastic!

Great food, amazing service, gorgeous position. We really enjoyed our experience here. The service was superb. Pastas delicious, burgers and fries the best! Fantastic wine list. And a special birthday treat for dessert. Really worthwhile night out.

Don’t waste your time or money

By MrsKFoley |

My husband and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary here last night. We sat out on the 3rd floor patio that overlooked the river. I should stop there because that was honestly the only positive thing about eating at Gibsons Italia. Our server was nowhere to be found 95% of our dinner. He got my husbands drink wrong twice (we told the server this and still got charged). Our food absolutely took forever to come out. And the food was nothing memorable. To spend over $200 and have that type of service is super disappointing. We won't be returning.

Fantastic view with superb meal

We enjoyed a leisurely lunch, had excellent service with our attentive waiter Michael Taxy. Our mains were delicious with plentiful portions. Desert extended our relaxing afternoon before heading to the airport.

Fabulous atmosphere, great food

By Sarah C |

What an atmospheric restaurant in a great location. We dined with local friends who are clearly regulars, they knew their way around the menu (when to share platers, what to order extra) and the delightful waitrons knew them too, bringing us delicious additional pasta dishes and a bonus dessert! Somehow the three hours of dining passed in a flash. This is a great place for stylish fun dining

Absolutely amazing....

By TR561 |

Incredible atmosphere up on the 3rd level. We split the Egg Raviolo which is new on the menu and I can honestly say it was one of the best dishes I have ever experienced in my life. So good that we requested Chef Sosa come out on an insanely busy night, to thank him. We had a wonderful waitress as well who made the night very enjoyable, but forgot her name. Dear Gibson's management, don't ever remove this dish from your menu, it's a game changer and we will be back soon to experience it again.

Great restaurant with great view, hard to beat!

By David R G |

My wife treated me to a Father's Day/Birthday dinner at Gibson's Italia and it was one of the best, ever. The food, wine, ambiance were outstanding with Art on the Mart thrown in to make it a most enjoyable evening. Alexis, our server, was outstanding and made the evening complete.

The VIEW!

By heather j |

Overall very good restaurant. Wonderful homemade pasta, delicious burrata, fresh foods, professional service and the best view I’ve had in a Chicago restaurant. The outer walls are just windows with a view of the river; there’s also an outside balcony for outdoor seating. The view alone makes it worth going, but the homemade food was also very good, as was the service — the combination of these 3 things makes it recommendation worthy IMO.

An early dinner with a great view.

By valuetraveler024 |

We started with the valet parking, which is across the street and easy to use. We had an early reservation to accommodate a show that evening. We requested a table with a view of the river, and we got a spectacular view right at the window, of course very few people were also dining that early. I was a little put off that while my wife and I were dressed for a fine dining establishment the people who showed up later were not and were seated right next to us. The restaurant makes a big thing in its description of appropriate dress; however, they fail to follow their own guidelines. The service was very good and attentive, although they missed ordering one of the sides I had requested. The steaks were good, but somehow, I expected more from Gibson's. The baked Alaska was good but somehow also missed the spectacular mark. Don't get me wrong, this was a very good meal.

Amazing Food/Ambiance, Terrible Wagyu Steak

By Booth |

Amazing staff/service. Exceptional view/food; however I ordered the wagyu steak and it was terrible. Lot of gristle and fat. Not the buttery texture you would expect of an 80 dollar wagyu steak. I've made better flank steak at home. Extremely disappointed that the chef even took that cut into their inventory, let alone let it go out for service. The rest of the meal was the exact opposite. Amazing lobster bisque, cocktails, fish and squash. I do feel like overall I am very happy, but for the extreme prices of the steak and the level of quality you have there, a steak like that should be nowhere near that place, let alone even a low quality grocery store.

Awesome Food and Service

By Rich G |

Every meal there is a treat and the service is excellent. It can be a bit crazy on week nights so I’m sure it’s a mad house on weekends but it’s worth it!

Perfect lunch date

By Travelfor4_8 |

First time here, view is spectacular. Food & service were excellent as well. We’ve been dining in Chicago all of our lives & this is a gem. Cocktails were well made. Highly recommend saving room for dessert!

A great dining experience

By Lawrence K |

Simply amazing. Four of us dined here last night. Our apps included meatballs, crabmeat and avocado parfait and garlic toast. The entrees were halibut, NY strip steak, Kobe beef filets and pappardelle with a side of Brussel sprouts and deserts included honey crisp apple crostata, tort al cioccolato a strati and a special birthday dessert they made for us. All in all it was a great dining experience out and with a spectacular view of the Chicago river, Wacker Drive and the Merchandise mart from a window side table. The strive was impeccable and I must commend our server Anthony for his attentiveness. Well done!

Great Steak House

By Mark P |

This is a truly terrific steak house in the River Roth neighborhood. The food is excellent-I had a special stone crab appetizer, the crab bisque and a small filet. All were truly first rate. My cocktail was strong, and service was very good. I would happily return.

Smarmy service, inattentive staff, lousy food

By 72850007 |

Gibsons Italia is in my building. I figured it would be a great place to take a senior executive recruit for lunch. I thought it would become a regular part of my routine. I was wrong. The server pushed alcohol, even after we declined. He wanted to do "appetizers for the table" - the three of us - and entirely misread that we are business people, not a bunch of drunk people, like at the table across the way. Once it was clear we were not drinking, he wanted as little to do with us as possible. He paid no attention that I ate two bites of my $17 kale salad and could not stomach another one. It tasted awful, but he never came back until he came back with the food, so I had no opportunity to tell him. No one ever refilled our water glasses. No one offered more bread. No one offered another Diet Coke or a refill of iced tea. Our entrees were adequate, but nothing great. My pappardelle pasta had so much orange zest in it that it tasted like an orange rind. Even that, however, couldn't get the awful taste of the kale salad our of my mouth. By the time dessert time came around, we just wanted to leave. If you enjoy a loud place for lunch, where you rarely have to interact with your waiter, and you don't have to worry about filling up on bread or drinks, you should go to Gibsons Italia. If you like good food and good service, you should go someone else in Chicago. Life is too short to have a lousy meal.

Didnt love it, sorry

By camefromfairfield |

We made a reservation here over a month before and could only get an 8:30 table. It was packed, inside and out. And it was also the only place on our entire trip during Covid where they had signs that masks were not required, which was fine with us since we were both fully vaccinated and needed a breather from the masks for a while :) We overindulged the night before and did not order drinks. But we started with the amazing arancini balls. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there. Being huge pasta lovers, we ordered the ravioli carbonara, which was weird, and VERY VERY rich. Like too rich for me to eat more than a half of a ravioli. Maybe it was the near raw egg yolk that squirted out when I cut into it for a bite. We also had the spicy rigatoni (we love spice), but it was so spicy I thought for sure I would have a gallbladder attack back at the hotel! Only ate a few bites of that too. We ended with a huge slice of hazelnut cake which was covered in caramel and also so so rich. So this place was really not for us, but maybe you will feel differently?

Excellent food and service- Extremely noisy though.

By Italylover1966 |

I brought my adult daughter and her boyfriend here for a celebratory dinner in Chicago and I have to say that the food was excellent. The steaks were all prepared to perfection and the risotto and fusilli were delicious. Our wait staff was very attentive. The only issue I had with the restaurant was the noise level in the main dining room - made it difficult to have a conversation and the table was also too small making it hard to place all the dishes on the table at once. I also felt that the bar area was too small. Because of the noise level, I do not feel it is an appropriate place for an "intimate" dinner.

Premium View, Premium Prices, Less Than Premium Food

By Normal_DJO |

Let’s be clear: Gibson’s Italia may offer the best City view in a city full of great views. It’s that spectacular. The food itself? The steak options meet the Gibson’s standard. It’s not the best steak you’ll get in the City, but it’s worthy of comparison. The sides were also top notch. The Italian options, however, fell short. Not bad, mind you, but not elite. Chicken Parm was heavy on the breading and the pasta was overdone. Definitely opt for the steak. Of course the view comes at a price. This is not a cheap meal. I’m glad we went because the food was very good overall and the view is fab, but there’s no need to add to the dinner rotation.

Anniversary Dinner

By Scenic604396 |

My husband and I came to Gibsons Italia based on the great reviews we read and we weren't disappointed. From the time we entered the restaurant to the time we were seated, we were greeted with Happy Anniversary. The views of the city are wonderful, especially at night. We had the King Crab Bisque and Prosciutto Di San Danielle to start. Great beginning! To save room for dessert we had the 7 oz filet with buttery mash potatoes prepared exactly as requested. We chose the black butter truffle and our waiter recommended au poivre. delicious!! Dessert was Banana Gelato. We were so glad we saved room. Heavenly! The service was impeccable from beginning to end.

Hopping place, the scene, overpriced experience

By john b |

They seem to know what it takes. All the hip, cool people are here. I saw a wedding pre-party with balloons and cake, young women who were so happy to be here ( their dates didn't get it), lots of middle aged people wanting to be hip, business people doing business and every body else just "being there". My friend threw his party. All the right food ( although too little of it), the right wine poured and tasted by the " name of the guy who's suppose to know wines"...my friend sent back bottles. The food was mediocre at best. The atmosphere was OVER THE TOP! WOW, spend a lot of money but at least you can tell your friends you were there. I'd bet you could do Wrigley Field for less.

Great Chicago Restaurant

By Paul455 |

This place is Great. Very welcoming atmosphere. We had a party of 5 so we had some of about everything and it was all fantastic. Service was wonderful Aeriel was our server snf really made the evening complete. She was so helpful with the menu and recommendations . We will definitely go back and recommend to all.

Interesting View. Excellent Food.

By Mark M |

Beautiful view. Bar and outdoor seating very comfortable. Handled social distancing and masks well. Food was excellent. Entrees perfectly prepared and presented. Starters interesting and delicious. Wine list was extensive. Ordered a Grattamacco and was served Bolgheri Rosso which is made by them. Excellent wine, but the wine list would have been better had that been clear. Their mark up on wine was in bounds - not the gouging that some high priced restaurants engage in. Expensive meal. Good value. Great spot for a special gathering. Would happily return.

Splendid

By bonnie107 |

The four of us had dinner at Gibson's Italia on a Saturday in the early evening, and the overall experience was splendid. Our waitress was attentive and provided excellent service, the food was great, the view of the Chicago River and iconic Merchandise Mart was awesome, and the atmosphere was pleasant. We were seated at a table on the second floor, far enough away from the bar to avoid the noise, and the pillows on each seat was a great touch. Smart, too. We ordered more food because we were so comfortable! We shared a couple of appetizers including the crab meat and avocado parfait which was delicious. For our entrees, the 7 ounce filet mignon was cooked perfectly as was the bucatini pasta. Spaghetti and meatballs were good. The green circle chicken was okay but would go with a different choice next time. Wine pairings were perfect. This place is expensive but well worth it especially for a special occasion.

Spectacular!!!

By Gabriel M |

We were a group of 10 so we shared almost all the menu. From the appetizers to the desserts everything was excellent, specially the steaks. The ambience was nice and the service very good. Definitely will be back.

Beautiful views, great food & atmosphere

By mki_home |

We went here for my birthday dinner on a Friday night in July. We wanted a nice dinner with a river view. We had a fabulous waiter serving us and our meal in the main indoor dining area was great! We enjoyed our view and our drinks and meal. The chilled prawns were so meaty and some of the best I have had anywhere. My guys absolutely loved the meatballs. Our waiter brought me a complimentary small delicious oreo ice cream dessert for my birthday with a lit candle. This restaurant really has 3 floors and some outdoor space/seating on the patio/lawn area. All floors are not created equal so make sure you know what type of experience you are going for. The bar is very lively and packed on a Friday after work and well into the evening. There is a dining area on that same floor too off the bar that's considered bar dining room which is a bit more secluded and less hectic/loud than the rest of the bar floor but the views aren't quite as great being at ground level.. However, the best dining area and views for eating would be on the middle level. The dining room is not large so it is hard to get reservations. There is an outdoor patio dining space as well as indoor. The dining room floor does have more elevated views of the River and the split. The lower floor bar area has a walk out where you can stroll along the sidewalk and gardens and get closer to the railing/river for great pictures. The top floor has an outdoor bar area as well. All of the staff members were very nice, polite and accommodating. We enjoyed our dining experience.

Great food, great service

By janhad |

From the moment you walk in, you feel special and welcome. The music is an upbeat jazzy collection. The food and service were excellent. We loved the sea scallops with risotto and the branzino. The baked Alaska was an interesting twist on a throwback dessert and very good. My only criticism is that there is one bathroom for women.

A chic, new Gibson's with all the perfect touches

By Cheryl094 |

I'm a long-time Chicagoan and when I saw a sleek new restaurant on the prettiest point of the river, I couldn't believe it was Gibson's. The "Gibson's" I know is an cigar-smoking old man type of steak house that has been in Chicago for ions (grant it--I'm sure it's great if you like that type of scene) but that didn't appeal to the type of foodie I am. Seeing the decor in the new space, a stunning 4-floor floor to ceiling windowed restaurant on the river, I just had to try it. There was no disappointment here. On anything. We had an excellent table with a superb view. The wait staff was so attentive and a big thumbs-up to Justin, our waiter. He made the experience very special. It was a nice touch that everyone receives a small glass of prosecco upon arrival. The cocktail and wine list are very inviting and every single thing we ordered was not only delicious, but exemplary. For what it was, it was reasonably price. After dinner, we went to the bar on a different floor to finish the night. I'm absolutely in love with this restaurant. It's fine touches are what's make this modern, fresh, and inviting. The wine list by the bottle is spectacular.

Nice family lunch

By Tony J |

I have enjoyed several other Gibsons’ owned restaurants prior, but, this was my first visit here with my family of 4 for our lunch reservation on a Friday. The restaurant is located near the main downtown train station. We were able to park our vehicle on the street near the building. The restaurant is located in an office building. We took the elevator up to the restaurant. We initially opted to eat outside on their concrete roof deck overlooking the Chicago River, but, it was too windy cold so we moved inside to a nice upper booth located behind the bar. This is a swanky, high style tri-level Italian steakhouse. Many suited business customers were eating here. There are also two fireplaces. I enjoyed my two old fashions for $15 each. I also enjoyed my 16 ounce NY strip steak cooked medium rare for $57. My peppercorn sauce was an extra $4. We shared the $12 brussel sprouts and $15 sauteed mushrooms. My total bill was $337 excluding gratuities, which was more than our usual cost for lunch. Adam S. was our very professional server. We all agreed we enjoyed our lunch experience here, but, then there is the issue of cost effectiveness.

Fantastic Experience

By William L |

Great food, great service, and great views of downtown Chicago. My wife and I went here with my sister and her husband and had a booth facing the Chicago skyline. We shared the focaccia, risotto and octopus antipasti. I especially recommend the charred octopus. The filet mignon with bearnaise sauce was excellent.

Excellent Dinner

By Mark P |

Gibsons is in a modern office building. It offers excellent river views, a lively bar scene, and a modern steak house vibe. The food is superb, the drinks are good, and service was first rate. I would happily return.

Awesome !

First time at Gibsons Italia and we were looking forward to a great dinner. Wonderful service great food and extensive menu. It says Gibsons Italia but really known for its steaks. And your steak will not disappoint you. Busy and hectic but great service and great food. We will be back.

Finally 1 decent resto in Chicago

By SuperShan1 |

Most posh restaurant in Chicago are dark and dingy. I feel like I'm in one of the American hotels with thick old carpet feeling jaded and old after walking out. But not Gibson Italia! It is bright and clear glass you can look out. Service is good and genuine. Easy to get attention of any server to ask for water or sauces without having to hunt only for our server. Starter squid and Crabmeat are excellent! A bit too salty though. I had main whole fish while partner had Risotto. Both taste excellent! We'd Sparkling Rose which serves in nice wine glass! My burgundy was great to match the dishes and only at USD 14 a glass. Ambience was great, glad I ended my Chicago trip here. Thumbs up!

Fantastic late lunch

By CBDigger |

Beautiful view, great service, delicious Italian. We dined for a late lunch on a Saturday. We did have a reservation, there was no wait as we were seated. My wife loved the roasted beat salad. Their red sauce is fantastic. We will look forward to dining again.

Incredible service and food

By Sarah |

As a Chicagoan who has lived here for more than a decade, I've somehow never been to a Gibson's establishment until recently. Man, I've been missing out! My husband and I went here for dinner before seeing a show at the Lyric Opera. We were seated on the third floor. Our table had an incredible view! We started off by sharing crab bisque. SO rich and delicious. Next we shared a medium rare steak (I'm pretty sure it was the "Chicago cut") with bernaise sauce - the meat just melted in my mouth. As a side dish, we shared a twice-baked potato with ricotta: it was incomparable. The service was perfect, which is what I would expect from a restaurant with the reputation of Gibson's. We were greeted at our table with complimentary prosecco and then ordered a bottle of red from the extensive wine list. Such a decadent experience, and the service was superb. I can't wait to go back.

Excellent service , lovely

By TravelMike666 |

Excellent service , lovely setting and the food was amazing! I had the Chicago cut steak cooked medium and it was delicious. For starts I had the trio. Have to say the star was the side of Brussel sprouts! Good choice of wine although over priced.

Excellent Service, Amazing View

By tonyachicago1 |

This is a beautiful restaurant with exceptional service and one of the best views in the city. We decided to eat after a Broadway show, and it was one of the only nice restaurants that offered reservations at 10:30 PM. Although it was late, the staff never rushed us or made us feel like we needed to leave after eating. Although this is the “Italia” version of Gibsons, they don’t offer dinner-sized portions of pasta. Expect to order steaks and pay Chicago steak prices.

Wunderbar!

By BurtB312 |

Salads. Steaks. Sides. Drinks. The BEST combo experience in West Loop! Views are stunning and ambiance supreme. Starters not to miss is the salad with little balsamic infused beads that mirror caviar, but they're not, with tomatoes... great taste. Next, beet salad is a must! Savory beet flavor with avocado and more, excellent. Onto the main... risotto with scallops was a hit. Steaks - filet mignon, NY strip, Chicago cut, and Australian grass fed are tops. Pasta dish that accompanied was awesome! Definately worth your time with the breathtaking view, great ambiance, and delicious food!

Dining with a view of the Chicago River.

By rms11 |

Lunch with a great view looking East over the Chicago River. A short walk from the Ogilvie Transportation Center. Upscale attentive service. Lunchtime pricing was manageable. Nearby “French Market” was disappointing.

Elegant and beautiful night

By Roadtripping123 |

The crab bisque was the best thing I’ve ever eaten. I could have had more. We ordered steak and salads and both were good, but the soup stole the show. We had a dessert that was great, too. Our view overlooked the river which was nice. It was pricey but worth it. I would stick to the seafood or something other than steak. I’ve had better steaks elsewhere. This place is beautiful and romantic.

Overpriced and overhyped

By Annie |

Great location and pretty space, but overpriced and so-so service. Our apps never came out and we felt quite rushed w/ entrees. Ok experience but not worth the price. Wouldn't recommend.

Dinner with a View

By CanadianGal1981 |

Gibsons Italia was recommended to us by a local and I know why this is a favourite of hers. Stunning views, decadent food and sumptuous decor. Definitely check it out! We requested a seat on the patio overlooking the river and it did not disappoint! The patio is enclosed with glass so that views out are not obstructed and lighting is kept to a minimum - which is good to see the river, but bad to see the menu and your date. I started with the Caesar, which I found to be rather bitter and did not finish it. The hubby had the crab bisque, which is poured table size and comes with large crab lumps. The table bread was delicious but I thought it strange that it did not come with olive oil or balsamic vinegar for dipping. Our server pointed out the meatballs and the Chicago Steak as house specialties, so we ordered them both and were very pleased with our choices. The steak melted in my mouth and I was sad when we devoured the it all. We closed it off with the banana gelato - more of a mini ice cream cake, encircled in Oreo crumbs and topped with caramelized bananas. Portion sizes were a bit on the small side, but inline with what you would expect from a high-end restaurant. Service was attentive, our glasses were never empty and plates were cleared promptly. I did find the name a bit of a misnomer since their menu leaned more towards steakhouse than Italian...some food for thought.

Gibsons Italia

Great experience from the greeting to the service to the food. Of course, I am especially interested in the food which was excellent.

Great dinner with work team

By WFamilyMemories |

Our group of 8 had a wonderful time at Gibson’s. A perfect setting, outstanding drinks and food and great memories! Will definitely be back!

Absolutely magnificent

By agkiely |

As someone from London who entertains for business frequently I am rarely blown away by quality of food service or views. But my goodness Gibson’s blew me away. The atmosphere is fantastic and the view is genuinely breathtaking. The service is friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble and our server was warm and approachable, he made our evening so enjoyable. The food was of such high quality, well presented and beautifully seasoned, steaks cooked to perfection. This is genuinely not to be missed and I will absolutely be back! Thank you Gibsons for making my evening!

Extremely Disappointing - don't bother

By DeeGee04 |

We had a VERY disappointing experience here. We were celebrating my Milestone birthday and had not been downtown or out to a fancy restaurant in months due to the pandemic. Everyone I knew who had been out recently to celebrate 'Big' occasions were going here to Gibson's Italia so I told my husband that is where I wanted to go. He called on more than one occasion to make sure we had a table outside on the patio (due to pandemic) and also to remind them of the 'celebration'. When we got there, we were told to go to 2nd floor. There, the hostess told us it would be a few minutes for our table - fine we said, 'outside, right?' - 'Oh', she said, you want outside? well, then I can take you to a table'. Right there was a red flag that all of my husband's requests prior to our arrival were not being communicated. It was a very chilly night so there was one large party of 8 and another party of 2 on the patio. Our waitress told us she'd be by to go over the menu. When she did come by, she said 'ready to order?' - my husband said 'I thought you were going to tell us about the menu'. Suffice it to say that our waitress did her job - she could've worked at any restaurant - she certainly did not add any warmth or friendliness that differentiates the experience of fine dining or Michelin rated fare. When we were eating our salad, my husband said 'Ewwww....' - I said 'what?' - and dare I say, a big Rat was running around not that far from our table. I was pretty horrified - the other large party saw it too. A very friendly, courteous and helpful assistant on the patio that night expressed horror when he saw it run by too. I asked him to get the manager. The manager walked out, seemed unfazed, and asked 'do you want to eat inside?' - we did not as the CDC did not recommend indoor dining during the pandemic. He basically said we're outside, near a park and there was nothing he could do. He was not empathetic, nor did he seem to show much concern. The Rat came around several times during the meal - at one point, someone in the large party told me to 'watch my feet' - So Gross! The food was nothing special - caprese salad was good - my $43 crab leg was small and very overpriced, our sides - mashed potatoes and cauliflower were cold. And at the end of the meal, our waitress asked if we wanted dessert - surely, she Must know about my birthday my husband had made mention of when he called more than once and wrote on the reservation. She DID bring out a nice dessert for us - thankfully, she came through for that. After several emails back and forth with customer service manager, he sent us a $100 gift certificate. I asked if he really expected us to come back and fork over another $100 out of pocket because you surely can't get away with a meal for 2 for less than $200 there. The only reason I am giving 2 stars vs. 1 star is that after phone call with the manager who saw the Rat, he asked me what I was looking for and offered to refund our $200+ meal.

Excellent service, a good view to match excellent food.

By Steve C |

We went with two other couples, most everyone ordered a different main course, all were impressed by food. We shared some appetizers, the meatballs were delicious , we all loved them. Four people ordered different steaks all said they were some of the best they have ever had! Service was excellent an all round great place.

Bucatini heaven

By Resortqueen |

From beginning to end, Gibson’s dinner experience was superb. I was torn between ordering a pasta or the steak. I went with the bucatini, and the server recommended adding grilled shrimp to it , and it was the best bucatini I have ever had. Perfect portion size and just enough pesto sauce. My husband ordered a steak, and it was cooked to perfection. The next time we come back to Chicago, Gibson’s Italia will be first on our list! That view!! Amazing!!

Average food in a great location

By Momvet6 |

My 20 year old daughter and I visited Gibson’s on a recommendation. We had their regular filet medium rare. They warned us that it was red throughout. The steak was not warm. We should have ordered medium. We also got the rigatoni. It was good but the portions are pretty small. The Caesar salad was wilted and served in a warm bowl. Our server was reserved but friendly. I would try some where else next time.

Best view of the city

By rtaylor1974 |

We meet friends here for drinks and appetizers before our dinner at another restaurant. The outdoor seating area is large and very nice. You cannot bear the views of the city

Good

By L H |

Great location with potentially spectacular views depending on seating location/weather. Pricey, with unpolished service, decent to great food. Excellent salmon and rotini, crab appetizer is fresh, but not really well seasoned, and with only one slice of avocado; sage panna cotta just has sage leaves laid atop it, texture too set.

Outstanding!

By Bo K |

One of the best dining experiences you can have in Chicago. Outstanding! We went as a family during Christmas and everyone was blown away with the quality of the food, wine selection options and service. We just can't say enough about this outstanding restaurant. Victor is one of the best waiters we have ever had.

Divine dining experience!

By ProfessorOnzaga |

From start to finish, we were so impressed with Gibson's Italia. We thought that we had 1 hr 1/2 to dine, whereby the theater moved the curtain call up 1/2 hour, thereby giving us only one hour. We phoned the restaurant to inquire if it was still reasonable for us to dine there, and they assured us that they would accommodate us... and they did. From the minute we entered the building, they had us go to the third floor and we were seated immediately. Adam, our waiter, was at our table within a minute, asking for our drink selection. His recommendations were valuable, his expedience and professionalism was laudable. I could not decide if I wanted the beet salad or the crab bisque, whereby he brought me both... the bisque on the house as he felt that I should not miss out on that dish. He was correct. The bisque was outstanding, and the beet salad was like no other in that there were so many layers, flavors and textures. One would think that it is just a salad, yet I aver that it is much more... so much that I intend to order that again when I return. My entree, the risotto with scallops was rich and delicious. My partner ordered the New York Strip, which he enjoyed and the cauliflower side. Exceptional food! We only had 10 minutes left, and Adam still managed to pull a brilliant double espresso and bring us our bill, whereby we had an extra 5 minutes to walk to the theater. My only regret was upon us. I wish that we had an extra hour to relax, take in the sublime cuisine and enjoy the unbelievable atmosphere.... a view down the river. Gorgeous! Other reviews mention cost and portion size: it is not inexpensive, but the entire package is worth it. And the food was more than enough (I could not finish 1/2 of my risotto, as it was so filling), unless you are one to go to a buffet and sample each dish for 3 hours.... this is not your restaurant! We definitely plan to revisit Gibsons Italia and request Adam as our server. It was a memorable dining experience!

Great Food, Impeccable Service

By wilsonderekw |

Gibson's Italia is an excellent Chicago Loop restaurant. My wife and I had dinner with about 20 of my co-workers. We had a private area, and the wait staff were "TOP" Notch. I had steak, while my wife had fish and both were very good. The restaurant is a little loud, but a private room will lower the volume. Thank you Gibson's Italia.

Great view of Chicago skyline

By chuckAZ |

Friends highly recommended this restaurant and they were right. We went for a late lunch and were seated along the windows of the second floor. What a great view of the city! Dining room was ver nice, noise level low and reasonable spacing of tables. Service by Deshon was great. We both had steak and sides and they were as you would expect at this quality of restaurant. My only complaint would be the excessive markup (5x) on wines that retail around $100. Lesser retail wines were more reasonable multiples.

Fantastic restaurant with great views!

By slstich99 |

Been here several times for different occasions. Always attentive staff and wonderful food. Pricey but worth every bite! Only drawback is it’s very hard to have a conversation as it’s extremely noisy.

Great space and service for a group outing

By Kim G |

Went here for a company outing. The service was excellent- friendly, prompt and helpful. Anticipated the group’s needs well. The river view is beautiful. The appetizers were out of this world! The entrees and sides were family style. My only suggestion would be for more gluten free options. Well worth a visit.

Best steak with amazing view of Chicago

Came here on a friday night with my wife and my 2 adult kids. Service was spectacular Chelsea was our server and her recommendations and her service was fantastic. We had the bone in filet...the bone in ribeye, and a bunch if side dishes. All great. The meatballs as a middle of the table sharing dish was perfect. Great meatballs. It isnt really an Italian restaurant...definitely mostly steaks, but well worth the trip. Ask for Chelsea as your waitress..

I followed this restaurant

By Stephanie C |

I followed this restaurant on Instagram and finally decided this is where I wanted to celebrate our 20 Anniversary. We loved the decor and had a great view. The steak was exactly what I expected from Gibsons perfection. Our server was Brad he was professional and engaging. We top the night off with their hazelnut cake with caramel sauce. We will be back!

Refined Italian restaurant with good wine cellar

By FunlovingJohn |

Went for a company party in their "Board Room" on 3rd floor. Very nice main dinning and outdoor deck on the river. Suggest on deck in good weather. We had a pre-arranged menu, with 5 entre selections. All were good. Meal, drinks, wine and dessert were excellent. Some staff were not wearing masks, suggest you be stricter with this. We have all had our shots, but some have not.

Recommended by a friend as number 1 in downtown and he was correct

By Jonny187 |

We were in Chicago for the weekend looking for a location for a high quality meal. A friend who lives in Chicago recommended this location by far and away his number 1 in the city. We walked in on a rainy Saturday afternoon for lunch with no reservation and got seated at the bar. We enjoyed cocktails, shared a seafood tower for two and shared a pasta dish. The bar tender was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu, she made great drinks, and gave us great recommendations for dinner that night. We would have loved to do dinner, but you have to book way ahead to get a table - but if planning a trip to Chicago you should book ahead as this location is exceptional.

Amazing experience - Scott Rock rocks

The service was impeccable, location perfect and the food devine. But it was our server Scott who made our dining experience one to remember. Highly recommend and can’t wait to visit again when we are back in Chicago

Great Steak

By Dblue40 |

Visited Gibsons on a Wednesday night. The view is wonderful looking straight down the river to the east. We all had the filet and it was outstanding as well as prepared perfectly. I added the Brussel sprout accompaniment and it was also very good. One of my colleagues got the mashed potatoes and said they were outstanding. Wait staff was attentive.

Great ambience, service, food: staggering wide-angle views.

By FliegendeEnglaender |

Came here after the laughably awful Dutchman at the Lyric nearby. Welcomed successively by car valet, doorman, receptionists, and maitre d' on the sumptuous third floor. Seated at a booth in back of the room with distractingly good, wide light-show views NE over river/city/traffic/trains. Food faultlessly good including: lobster cocktails, beet salads, grilled fresh branzino, and veal chop Milanese, with side order brussels and grilled asparagus were all of highest quality. Charming head waiter even knew how to fix sgroppinos for dessert (as we had been talking about Venice for some reason). Anyway - another fantastic Gibson dining room. Thanks so much guys.

Wonderful leisurely lunch!

By 404UnaR |

We sat at the bar for a leisurely lunch yesterday. Service was great, chatted with the bartender who was lovely, informative about the food and wine and gave us great tips on other restaurants and bars. Both the food and wine were excellent. We shared a fish platter with lobster, oysters, snow crabs and shrimp. It was wonderful! Then we shared the mafaldine with a meat sauce. Amazing! We wanted to go in the evening but couldn’t get a table so we decided to go for lunch. So glad we did!

Excellent food - portions huge !

By CKI |

We visited here after realising it was the same ownership group of another restaurant we had been to ( Boathouse - Disney springs). Our Waiter, Joshua, was excellent. Talked us through the menu and offered exceptional service. The restaurant / bar was buzzing however we sat outside as it was such a great evening. It’s a classic steak/ fish restaurant and so the menu has everything you expect and more! Food was great quality albeit portions were huge! As brits we certainly hadn’t tuned into portion size soon enough. Food was so good we almost cancelled Saturday plans to return!

Happy Birthday Celebration for Two

By Rudy E Urian |

Totally enjoyable dining experience! Great service, with very courteous and thoughtful Staff! Food was deliciously prepared to our liking and waitress was pleasantly attentive! The surprisingly complimentary Happy Birthday dessert was literally, icing on the cake, not to mention an additional delectable serving of tiramisu, presented as well, thanks to our neighboring table of, just met, two gentlemen of recent San Antonio to Chicago transplants, a fellow Oak Parker and past West Town resident! And topped it off by kicking off a rendition of Happy Birthday, which had the whole restaurant singing, making it such a memorable experience I and my wife will never forget! Thank you all so much! Shout out to Joanna, Grace and Michael! - Rudy Urian

top chicago restaurant

By abmilw |

had reservation wanted main dining room, but they running late so we sat in bar in area (felt like a bait and switch), but bar area is nice too. great menu, nice service, hip and trendy vibe. food was very good: pasta delicious, steak high quality, Original gibsons has a bit more magic since that is an institution, but this will get there.

Delectable. Professional. Sexy.

By Sammy J. (and Jessica Mae) Koza |

This was our very first visit to Gibson’s Italia. I’m am originally from Chicago and have lived in Minneapolis for years. We come back often but have never visited this restaurant. Our experience from the moment we walked in the door was impeccable. The service by the staff was extremely professional and knowledgeable. Our sever was Michael who had the perfect blend of humor and professionalism - he made great recommendations that we are still talking about. The menu was perfecto. The ambiance at Gibson’s is luxurious and inviting. The clientele there last evening was… dare I say sexy. We even left something very important at the restaurant by accident and Patrick, the manager is shipping it to us. I can’t say enough about this place. We would have sipped wine and reveled until the day day if possible.

Great food and great experience

By Eggs74 |

My wife and I visited here for our anniversary dinner. We had a great waitress who gave us time and attention that we needed. The food was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the brussel sprouts, Chilean sea bass, filet and the banana flavored dessert. You do pay for it here though as it is expensive. The view is amazing. This was my second time visiting and my wife's first.

Nice view

By didlopes1983 |

The best part is the view of Chicago River , beautiful!! The food is regular for me! I was expecting more!

Upscale dining with great rivers of the river

By BLtrvl |

Impressive menu, really nice variety of pasta, fish, steak...great atmosphere at the bend of the river.

Terrible service, overpriced, and ordinary food

By Arun K |

This is an overpriced, average food, and poor customer service restaurant. Mostly for out of towners and large corporate events. I came here with a reservation and waited for 40mins before being seated. The servers were slow and sloppy. Dropped water on the table multiple times trying to rush things. Finally, the main server dropped a full dish over my jacket. The server and receptionist gave me the owners contact information (someone named Andrew) promising "free dry cleaning and even a new jacket if you would like". I contacted the person and never even got a response. Terrible place run by terrible people.

Excellent Meal

By fritznig |

Just about everything about this dinner meal was perfect. Let's get the one negative out of the way first: there is a very small lobby on the street level. You then must go up to the second floor to the bar--in a very small, slow elevator--if your entire party is not there. Then up to the third floor for the dining room once everyone arrives. This is a real hassle. In the cold Chicago winder I would think it a real problem. The food and service was impeccable. Pace was neither hurried nor too slow. Wine list is excellent, however a bit on the pricey high-end side. Views are stunning if seated by a window.

Gibsons italia

By Bill A |

Best restaurant view we have ever had ! Been eating at Gibsons on Rush for years so not surprised the beef was fantastic ( we split the gigantic ribeye). The sides were quite different from those offered on rush and awesome ( brussel sprouts , pasta ragu) Decor, wait staff all off the charts.

Amazing steak

By osvaldo68 |

Had the Chicago cut steak (a bone in ribeye). It was simply perfect. The view is gorgeous and the service is good. It’s a little touristy and full of people on business dinners (and expense accounts - so prices are adjusted accordingly). It does get a little loud but all in all was great.

Loud but good

By Suzanne F |

The service was impeccable. The food good. I just did not prefer the odd multi level office building setting. And it was so very loud I could hardly carry on a conversation. Maybe how they roll in the Windy City.

Food + View = Excellent!

By Mary Ann B |

It's the HOT Chicago place which deserves the fame! Prosciutto, avocado and burrata appetizer was delicious and enough for 3-4 people. Salad choices were many but we chose the golden beet salad which was chopped. One large steak, sliced was charred on the outside and perfectly cooked. Brussel sprout side done by so many restaurants was great balance between sweet and salty. You must have a reservation 3-4 weeks ahead. The view down the Chicago River toward the lake is magnificent. Don't miss the second floor bar with access to the outdoor park area and photo ops!

Best lamb chops in my life !

By Sharon M |

Absolutely fantastic experience, stunning views , phenomenal fresh seafood and lamb chops. exceptional service , can’t wait to go back and have already planned to as only visiting for a week .

A restaurant down by the river

By Mike H |

Ate here on a Tuesday night, packed! My glass of bourbon at the bar came in a glass with one big ice cube (fancy), and did not water down as much as if it came in a glass full of ice cubes.Food was delicious, our party of nine all agreed the food was all very good ( fish & pasta as well). Our seafood sampler platter was very good. My steak was prepared perfectly. Sides were all delicious, so was the sampling of desserts we shared . Service was top notch. Million dollar view of the river & downtown through the big glass windows.

Not worth the money

By Tim |

Went there with a group of 14 service was rude. Food was average at best. We had a fixed menu I guess a new thing for a group over 10. Salad was very small, pasta course was family style that was fine but the serving size was very small, asked for more pasta never received it. Not at all the Gibsons experience I am use too Very disappointed not worth the big money

A must if you want a steak in Chicago

By N0ggie |

The Gibson steakhouses are just fantastic. High standard service food and drinks. Been to two of the Gibsons in Chicago, and cannot praise them enough. Not cheap, but certainly worth every penny. Do not miss out on their Muddy Bottom Pie. Be sure not to order more than one for sharing. It is enough to feed a party of 4-5 no doubt. Just looking forwards for my next chance to get to a Gibson Steakhouse!

A highly sophisticated dining experienceg

By JJ Katz |

Gibson Italia is located on the west bank of the Chicago river with a beautiful view of the downtown area and its numerous skyscrapers. Thanks to a nice evening, our party was seated on the outside patio under a gentle breeze. The fare provided by the restaurant was of the highest quality and, as befits such an establishment, service was attentive and extensive, albeit unobtrusive. Our party started the meal with a variety of antipasti dishes, including shrimp cocktail, smoked ham and mozzarrella, octopus carparccio, crab salad and small oysters. As a main course, most of the members of our party selected the Chicago cut steak which was served with caramelized onions and baked garlic. The meat was cooked perfectly to order and nicely complemented by excellent french fries. Drinks ranged from beer, cocktails to a magnificent bottle of Pauillac that sublimed the flavor of the meat. Desserts were three-flavored sherbets, banana and carrot cakes that successfully capped a superb meal in a gorgeous scenery. Overall, an unique and spectacular culinary experience. A must visit.

Excellent!

By Joseph C |

This restaurant, like all Gibsons locations, is very well managed. The multi story premises are extremely inviting and offer spectacular city and river views. The food, drinks and service, at all positions ,are excellent.

Excellent service, outstanding ambiance, great cuisine.

By StephenPicardi |

Gibson's has been a top steakhouse in Chicago forever. This iteration lives up to their 5 star tradition. Our server was impeccable and handled the 9 of us at 2 tables along with others as if we were dining privately. Her attentiveness was impressive and her knowledge of the chef's creations and the fine wines and liquor were astonishing. We shared appetizers including octopus carpaccio, shishito peppers, Brussels sprouts and meatballs. Entrées included bronzini, filet mignon and NY strip, all of which were memorable. The cacio de pepe left something to be desired. The view is the best in town. We were lucky to have a full moon rise during dinner to add to the ambiance. Lastly, if you go on a Sunday or Monday, the music is fantastic.

Did not disappoint!!

By sweetbb99 |

Took my husband for his 60th birthday dinner on our Chicago trip. From the moment we walked in the door…we felt special. They greeted us by name and said happy birthday to him…every person we met! When I made the reservation I asked for a window table and told them about birthday and that he likes chocolate…we got it all! Superb attention to detail, wonderful dinner, attentive staff and a magnificent view. The prices are very reasonable, too!!! Would recommend and would most certainly come back again!! Filet was perfection, the “branzini”? fish was delicious and the $20 twice baked potatoe with truffle sauce was well worth it to split!!!

A Perfect Evening

By Myrna S |

First of all, everyone employed at Gibson's Italia was charming and made you feel so welcome. It started with the hostesses on the first level. Outside it was cold, but as soon as you stepped inside they greeted us with warmth. We then took the elevator up to the third floor and were greeted by a charming host who took us to our table inside the lovely restaurant with very possibly the best view of the city that we have ever had while dining. I do not think there is a bad table in the restaurant. Scotty our waiter was wonderful and immediately brought us a complimentary glass of prosecco. We tried the crab bisque, caesar salad, brussel sprouts, salmon, spaghetti and meatballs, a superb pasta with asparagus and a unique cauliflower veggie side. Everything was done to perfection Both of the chocolate desserts were delightful. Also loved the wine list. Truly, Gibson's Italia did not miss a beat. On the way out we stopped at the second floor bar and it had a great fun vibe. Next time we are there we will definitely make sure we have time to stop there. The menu has a great selection of meat entrees, but if you lean more toward vegetable dishes you will not be disappointed. One of our top five favorite restaurants in Chicago.

Simply the Best!

By Ellen C |

My husband and I had dinner at Gibson's Italia on Friday, September 26th to celebrate our 38th Wedding Anniversary. Let me start off by saying, this restaurant and staff are absolutely amazing! The atmosphere is beautiful and we had a great table with a view. Jeff was our server and he helped us navigate the menu, answered any questions that we had and had a real knowledge of your dishes and wine. He let me sample two red wines before we ordered our wine. Dinner was fantastic, we had oysters (which Jeff explained to us the difference between the oysters), we split a caesar salad, I had the Roasted Branzino and my husband had the Wagyu NY Strip. Our sides were french fries and grilled asparagus. EVERYTHING was absolutely fantastic! Jeff brought us a delicious dessert to end our evening, a very nice touch making our anniversary feel special and took the time to take a couple pictures of us along with pictures of our food. You don't always get this genuine kindness and it is so appreciated by us. We also met Amanda, the manager, who was so kind and interested in where we were from and kindly suggested some of her favorite places to us. Also met Rudy, who was very nice. Jeff and Amanda definitely are in the right field in their job choices. Your restaurant has something special that we don't always feel. We went to other very nice restaurants on our stay in Chicago. While they were very good, they truly cannot compare to Gibson's Italia for sure. Jeff and Amanda really made our night so nice. We will recommend your restaurant in a heartbeat just as our friends recommended us to your restaurant. They were "spot on " in their recommendation. We had such a special night. Gibson's Italia is very lucky to have Jeff and Amanda representing your beautiful restaurant. You can feel their passion for their job and that makes all the difference. Thanks again Jeff and Amanda, you are doing a great job!

Thumbs up

By Steve H |

If it’s nice out and you can snag a table on the patio, I can’t imagine a better place in Chicago. The view is captivating. If the weather is a little bit on the inclement side, get a table near the window and you were meal just became better. Everything from the salads to the desserts and everything in between it was amazing. Everyone who ordered the fish thought it was fantastic. Even the chicken was done perfectly. Great service, great location and great food. Two thumbs up!

A poor near miss!

By Paul J |

They could do so much better with very little effort. Herded into an elevator then shown to a table with superb views of the back of the bar including sinks and garbage disposal was hardly a great start. My table was in nothing more than an access corridor for waitstaff and servers. I then had to ask for a drink and a menu and subsequently for a wine list. Service improved from there on but the damage wad done. This was NOT a fine dining experience as had been suggested by my friend in Chicago. The arancini had no detectable rice grains. (My choice of wine, a German reisling, was very nice but arrived well after my starter. Some weird flavourless pruee was presented instead in a soggy sauce. The fillet was perfectly cooked medium rare as I'd asked, asparagus side was delicious but potato puree was almost liquid. Saved by the roasted garlic and delicious horseradish cream. The highlights were a fantastic take on bombe Alaska, a very smooth Buffalo Trace bourbon and a nice black coffee. All in all poor value for the cost of the overall experience.

Great atmosphere and food.

By Sue |

Amazing lunch at this restaurant. We had a table looking out on the river with all the boats going by. The menu has excellent choices. We had the chaser and wedge salad which were very good. The sliders yummy also. We’ll be going back for dinner soon.

Amazing dinner with a killer view.

By Daniel T |

Loved it. First father and son trip to the Windy City. The view, staff, and food were all superb. The wagyu tartare was the star of the show, but it was all delicious. We could have sat there all night admiring the veiw, and we did not feel rushed a bit. I can't wait to take my wife back for a romantic dinner.

Just ok

By Jessi |

So the experience walking in the door was not great, but it got better after I was at the table. I will start from there. The waitress was very friendly. The view is amazing. Steak was good but they cook it differently than the other location. They said it would come out red in the middle, even though ordered medium, and it would be cut already. It wasn't bloody but it did have some of the gummy texture of a medium rare steak. The potato puree was ok but also different from the other location, more garlic. The house made steak sauce is good. They have a good strong sangria and cappuccinos. I did like the popular banana gelato, but not as much as I thought I would. I did not realize the outer coatings would be so hard. Ok so lets go back to the beginning. Now keep in mind it is a Thursday at 1pm. The hostess greets me and asks if I have a reservation and I say no. She tells me I can go up to floor 2 and it is open seating. I have never been here before so I don't think anything of it. I get there and it is the bar area. Now I did not take the train here that morning to have a nice birthday lunch in a crowded bar with no view. I let the guy at the bar host stand know that I was looking for the main dining area but they sent me here. He says sure no problem and calls upstairs. I went upstairs and was seated at a very nice table at the window with a nice view. Now they were busy but not completely full, and within an hour the place was cleared entirely. So why was I sent to the bar area? I am guessing it is because I was there alone rather than the lack of reservation at 1pm on a Thursday. For a place that probably gets $100+ a person on average, I would expect better service. Now I spent in the triple digits just being there by myself, so they assumed wrong if they thought I was there to have an app at the bar. A good business treats every single customer as if they are valuable. Every person who walks in the door should be asked if they would like the the dining room or the bar. Every other restaurant does this. There are a ton of complaints on how people are treated by the hostess so the owners need to get a handle on their staff. For what they charge, the service should be spectacular. It only takes a brief moment to turn people off to your business. I have never had this happen anywhere else in any city. The other Gibsons location has better food and service, as do many other places in the city. Great view, but being made to feel unwelcome right away is not a motivator to return.

Special birthday at Gibsons

By Isaac L |

We’re on holiday from England for my wife’s 50th birthday. Last night at Gibsons was perfect. I mentioned it was my wife’s birthday in the reservation and asked for a nice table with a view of the city. Everyone wished Clare happy birthday. The table was great and the view was stunning. The food was amazing and there was a special desert for Clare. I simply cannot thank you all enough for a perfect experience.

The Bar has Been Reset

By Clyde M |

I came in for lunch with customers. We all ordered steak despite this being Italian. It was fantastic. We added a few sides. I highly recommend the brussel sprouts. We also had some oysters and those were top notch as well. The service was also very nice. I was early and sat at the bar until the rest of the group arrived and they have great wifi if you need to get some work done.

Excellent dining with amazing views of Chicago skyline

By tarbash |

Dined at Gibsons Italia to celebrate our anniversary. Our table directly faced the Chicago skyline at night and this view made the evening very special. The staff is very organized and made us feel welcome on arriving at the restaurant. We felt very taken care of because even the manager of the restaurant greeted us and came over intermittently to make sure we were happy. The food was delicious. We started with a tower of fresh crab legs, lobster and shrimp. It was so fresh and tasty. We than had the Chicago cut steak which was cooked to perfection with a delicious taste. The side dishes consisted of mushrooms and french fries which were well prepared. We then had dessert and got the banana gelato with oreo and cheesecake which was heavenly. The vibe, the food, the excellence in service and our view made this a dinner to remember

Meat....View.....Meat....oh yeah....MEAT

By Dick Lickerton |

Went for my birthday. The view from this property is by far our favorite night view. You are looking down the long axis of the river as it heads towards the lake. The twinkling of all the buildings lights creates a surreal image that almost looks fake. It is perfect. Let’s talk meat. This place deserves all the raves it receives. Perfectly cooked steaks. We had the bone in ribeye that was amount the most flavorful we have ever eaten. The truffle flaked pasta, while expensive, gave us the strongest sense of the actual taste of the mushroom. For desert my wife had Italian cookies. For my desert I ordered 4 ounces of REAL KOBE beef ($140). It was worth every penny. There is no way to adequately convey the sublime experience of eating this meat. If you have the disposition and cash...go for it! While I was eating, the chef stepped up to our table and asked if he could shake my hand. He said I was his idol. In all his years no one had ever ordered Kobe for desert. HA.HA. Looking forward to our next visit in 2020.

Homeless camp

By Scott Z |

Restaurant is nice but in the middle of a homeless camp. We were harassed by homeless people in the way in and out...can't even walk on the sidewalk or avoid it.

Good Food but Noisy

By VegasToEssex |

My husband and I had dinner at Gibson’s Italia for our first meal in Chicago. The food was delicious. The arancini was fantastic and we loved the filet and brussel sprouts. The chopped salad was just ok. Service was great, but the downside was the noise of the restaurant. It was incredibly noisy and the ambiance was not particularly cozy. Good food but not one of my favorite Chicago meals.

February 1, 2020 Rochelle

By Leonard G M |

February 1, 2020 Rochelle and I arrived on time. We checked our coats on the 1st floor and waited for the ride to the 3rd floor dining area that has the view of Chicago on river looking east toward Michigan Avenue to the Lake Michigan. We were greeted again and ask again do you have a reservation? We replied yes, OpenTable We were escorted to table that would allow continued traffic on a more interruptive meal. We requested another table while standing. Our selection for another table was quick turned down. Why? They were waiting for a party of 5 to be seated. Leonard indicated that we should leave. He deferred whether leave or stay to Rochelle. He indicate to Michael Kunkel we can just leave now. Rochelle select another location in the space(booth). Clearly the evening moved in a direct which was not so warm.... Robert Woodard was assigned to our table. This signaled a shift in attitude and service. The smile, the warmth, the conversation, and his contact with Rochelle. Leonard was still cool on table the was denied.... We are read the meal and listen to the special. They provide Prosecco at the table for all guests of age.... we passed. The Lake Michigan punch was the beverage of choice for the evening. Rochelle selected the Roasted Squash Salad.... Leonard followed suit. The main courses were the salmon, caserecce , Cacio E Pepe with shaved Black Truffle , Shishito Peppers, and the desserts (triple gelato, and Hazelnut Cake (3 layers)). Crossing plates occurred but the caserecce. They remove it and the shishito peppers from the check. the table for 5. They never show up. The seated group of 4 that table . We spoke to Michael at the end of our dining experience.. He apology and provided his card.. Rochelle would like to return again.... so that will happen. Shalom

Great views and good food.

By DennisJ644 |

Three couples from out of town. Our greeting was less than good. Greeted on the ground floor told our table was late and we could go to the bar on the 2nd level and they would text us when the table was ready on the 3rd floor. After some time, we did not receive a text, I go up to the 3rd level to find out our table had been ready for a while. Not impressed. Our waiter was satisfactory, efficient. Started with an appy platter to the table which was a good. My corn soup was excellent. Ceasar salad was to be desired. Crab soup was excellent, My medium steak was overdone. Overall the group liked their meals. For the price would have excepted more. Views are excellent.

The most expensive pasta I’ve ever had

By dacabassa |

Beautiful location, right in the middle of the Windy City. The. I’ve is stunning and the atmosphere chic as you would expect in a high end restaurant. I followed the waiter’s suggestion and ordered the “not on the menu” pasta with truffles ($30 worth of it). It was delicious but the portion was anemic. For a $45 dish I was expecting a more generous portion. The drinks were well made and the waiter was attentive. The greeter could not find our reservation and it was annoying to have to wait for her to get to find the name, which she finally did.

Great spot for people watching and Chicago River watching

By pastrypants |

As we endured many days and nights of construction in River West last year, my eyes have finally reaped the benefits! Hashtag #thatviewthough! Upon entering, the host and hostess rally the troops of the vestibule into the elevator, much like herding cattle, up to the 2nd floor where the first come first serve bar and patio are. The mix of patrons is similar to its Viagara triangle sister. Older men in Tom Ford suits, and younger women with the latest Gucci chunk pearl embellished heels. Of course its 5:30 and the sun is at it's glorious best, as my friend awaits our presence on the patio and is hovering over a "reserved" spot, a well dressed man appears and asks us if we'd like to put our names on the wait list (to avoid the doughy eyed deer lost in the woods). We head back inside to wait for our third, and my friend spots an open table, so we park it. Tee (service manager) asks us if we're fine at this inside bar table, and I ask if we can continue to wait for a patio seat, but keep this table warm until such time. He agrees. We all order margaritas, two of them being special. I can't have peppers (I'm allergic), and our third is on the Keto diet, so sans sugar for her. The server notes this, and I also order the meatballs app. Tee comes over and tells us there is an available patio table on the third floor, so we relocate, and he says our order will be situated and sent upstairs. Moving up to the third floor, unlike its sister property, is encompassed with posh linen covered tables and beautiful banquettes, overlooking a view not seen before, facing the Chicago River at a different angle. We head to the patio, which is packed and a few tables over is Cheryl Scott from ABC7, probably right from work. The view, the company, the people watching.... fantastic. Well versed Lucas (server) knows the menu like the back of his hand. The unfortunate miss is the arrival of our margaritas. They were all Skinny (as our third friend ordered for her diet). Not so much an issue, but mine had jalapeño in it, and I had to send it back, or suffer cessation. Lucas apologizes profusely and is clearly upset with the miscommunication. Luckily if need be, there is bread on the table. My new margarita arrives, and my meatballs. There are 3, and a server comes over to serve them from the main plate to two share plates and dresses them with sauce. Nicely done. Over the course of a couple hours, we enjoy a second round of drinks (which are decent, but not over the top amazing), and we share the Kanpachi crudo. It's a touch heavy handed on the oil. The grapefruit "caviar" is a pleasant touch of acidity, and a newer technique separate from the old school Gibsons dishes in the triangle. It is more of a taste than a shared app. Lucas notes our underwhelmed surprise faces, and brings a complimentary tomato and mozzarella app to leave us satiated. When we finish, we head back downstairs to meet our friends hubby and sit for one last drink, which Tee sends over on the house. What they lacked drink/ foodwise, they made up for in service, at least with their service manager. We will definitely be back, next time I'll have a steak!

Perfetto

Phenomenal Italian/Steakhouse

By Deena S |

I love this restaurant and enjoy taking business associates here for lunch and dinner. The food and service are amazing. The ambiance is perfection.

Delivery

By L H |

Wish their menu for delivery had more selection. The colossal U-12 prawns has no description on the website: it's shrimp cocktail with 4 huge prawns, lemon wedge and a condiment container of cocktail sauce with dollop of horseradish. Spaghettini & Meatballs is 2 large (slightly gamey/dry) meatballs and a small serving of absolutely delicious fresh spaghetti & sauce.

Not worth the hype. Fell way short

By funguylonggrove |

Had high expectations, so even more disappointing. The decor and vibe are great. Fantastic views looking east up the river. However, only 1 out of 5 of our dishes were acceptable. I literally laughed out loud when my big eye tuna was delivered. $17 gets you 2 1x1 inch pieces served on a ten inch long plate. And way too salted. The menu mentions salt, but the amount was an abomination on high quality sushi. My GF ordered the asparagus pasta- both an anemic portion size and bland flavoring. After an inordinately long wait between courses, more disappointment. The carpaccio was sliced too thin and lacked flavor- it took adding olive oil, salt and pepper to make it enjoyable. My GF ordered the Filet medium. It arrived rare. Really? The only standout was the lobster bisque. Lobster served with soup poured over so it remained super tender. To be clear this is NOT an Italian restaurant- it is a steakhouse with 5 tiny overpriced pastas on the menu. Further, only one Italian beer on the menu. Go to RPM Italian or Noninna for a real Italian meal...

Can’t say enough about the view, the food, the service, the vibe!

By SMWhite |

Leave it to GIBSONS to create a spectacular restaurant with all the qualities you seek in a fine restaurant.......marvelous setting, breathtaking city views, stellar service and exceptional food. The Chilean Sea Bass was perfectly cooked, succulent inside, with a crispy potato crust. Not only was the meal fantastic, but mindful of new health trends. All in all a memorable experience.

Bad experience

By MonicaM_11 |

I came to this restaurant for my daughter's birthday. Honestly the service is not up to a restaurant that would like to be of a good standard. First, it was my daughter's birthday so when i booked, more than 10 days before, I had asked for a table on the patio, but upon our arrival we were told that it was not possible and that there were available only tables inside. Then we ordered some appetizers and "vodka penne". Well, only two minutes after the appetizers were served, the pasta dishes arrived too. The worst is that the waiter, since we had just started eating the appetizers, called a lady, who I think was the head waitress, in order to ask what to do. The lady, without any problem, put the pasta dishes on our table, next to our plates of appetizers. At the end, when we finished eating the appetizers, the pasta was completely cold and awful. In no Italian restaurant, of any level, not even a simple trattoria, such thing would ever happen. Terrible! The only thing I liked is the location

Would definitely return here👍

By Polydart |

Most impressive on every level! Started on the second floor for cocktails, which were amazing. They have a sommelier in the lounge area ready to help, too. Once in the restaurant, food and service were incomparable. Wine list super with another knowledgeable sommelier. And don’t forget the view of the Chicago river.

Exemplary!

I visited the restaurant with a colleague upon recommendation and it was an excellent choice. The first thing you notice of course is the stunning view and decor. The next thing is the exemplary service. Our waiter could not have been more knowledgeable or helpful. The way he had learned that script with detailed menu options was amazing. The wine was perfectly recommended to our taste and the food was fantastic! I will definitely visit again on my next trip.

Overrated & Overpriced

Service was okay. Not bad not great just okay. Ribeye was made well. The best thing about this place is the views, that's really it. That's what you're overpaying for and that's why you have to wait even if you make a reservation (two things the negative reviews seem to mention most and it's definitely valid). Go to the bar and have a few drinks and head somewhere else for dinner.

Great views paired with great food and wine

The restaurant is pretty spacious. Very good selection of drinks on the second level. The main room on the third level is very spacious with a great view of the river. Service was on point and food was delicious. Pretty good wine selection. Proper attire is required.

Very overrated

This " see and be seen" establishment offers good food at extraordinarily inflated prices. Be prepared for the staff to begin to clear your table as soon as they see an opportunity. When questioned about this practice, an employee acknowledged that staff is under pressure from management to move customers through quickly. Not a particularly pleasant experience ...We will not return.

Great outdoor seating

This place has great outdoor seating. The food is fabulous. The Brussel sprouts and banana gelato are amazing. BUT, the service is not up to par for the name and price. Plenty of servers, so many that they stood around looking around. Too bad we couldn’t get their attention when we needed them. They seem to have a system where everyone does one little piece of the task but no one checks back in case something else is needed. We had plenty of time to watch. Best service was from the busboy who acknowledged us and tried to get a server to help us.

Excellent Food & Excellent Service

My husband and I went here for dinner last week and had a fantastic dinner. We started off in the bar for a couple drinks. Our server was Haley and she was friendly and knew her wine selections. We moved upstairs to a window seat for dinner at 5 pm and our server was Scott. Scott was funny, attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. We started with the Kobe Tartare and Bruschetta Ricotta - BOTH were OUTSTANDING!!! I could have eaten the entire Kobe Tartare by myself it was sooo good. My husband had the 22oz Chicago Cut and I had the 12 oz filet - both were cooked to perfection and tasted out of this world. A few more drinks and we were done for the night! No room for dessert! View was amazing, service was impeccable and food was delicious!! We're going back very soon and requesting Scott again!! Thank you for an amazing dinner!
