The first stop on my food tour of Chicago was at Gino’s East. I was surprised at how big the restaurant is but it was packed and more people were waiting to get in. The deep dish pizza was really good. It was fun to write my name on the wall. Servers were friendly. I would like to come back the next time I’m in Chicago

Having a world famous deep dish pizza at Gino's East Downtown Chicago with a pint of Guinness is an excellent choice for lunch or dinner. The location and the atmosphere are fantastic and the service was good. The wait ing time is a little more if you want a deep dish pizza and not a regular one but it is worth it.

I ordered take-out thin-crust cheese and pepperoni supreme. I would have preferred a Jack Frozen over this. When I got there it was so busy, my food was sitting on the counter instead of the warmer, and the pizza was cold. It has no sauce (dry cheese crust). This pizza is not worth the price or the hype. It's a no for me.

This restaurant is popular and You may have to wait for a table. We waited 20 minutes. When We got the table We waited 10 -15 minutes for the pizza after We had ordered. The pizza was good. Prices in the middle.

One of my go-to places whenever I'm in Chicago. Great food, and enjoyable location. Nothing better than Gino's and a beer or two. Deep dish takes time, so having beers while waiting is a must for me, and they have a good tap selection.

A very special pizza and nothing to do with the usual American or European, really a Deep Pizza and with very natural ingredients.

On a Sunday, quiet place on arrival. Welcome and quick installation by our waitress of the evening very friendly. Visit to taste the famous Chicago Deep Dish! A little waiting but it was worth it. Pizza well hearty and excellent, small remark however: the dish served was a little lukewarm.... pity! Nice place and especially quiet, perfect for chatting with friends around good dishes. I definitely recommend this property to enjoy a good pizza.

Fantastic food. Probably the best tasting pizza, thin crust, that I have had. Not overly seasoned but “seasoned just right!” Our server/bartender Jason absolutely phenomenal was very prompt, courteous, and friendly. Highly recommended!

Our second visit here. Enjoyed the pizza and it has a good atmosphere. They tell you when you order how long it is going to be so you know in advance it will be 45 minutes for a pizza. We shared a medium pizza and this was enough for 2 people. Would visit again.

This was our second time at Gino’s East, and loved it just as much as the first time! Jason was our server and he is such a great guy! Attentive and welcoming and all around a great guy. And, the food was excellent - fresh, hot, and VERY yummy! Everyone was great. The young man hosting was very sweet and welcoming. Great place.

The pizza was fine -- I just want to complain about the wine service -- it was over $17 for a crummy little 4 ounces of cheap chianti wine -- come on -- that is highway robbery! I paid $14 plus a 20% tip which SOMEHOW brought the total to $17.13. I guess I was on a group tour with about 8 others, so the tip was increased to 22%?? Not sure how they came up with that amount. My point is it could NOT have been more than 5 ounces at MOST. what a rip off.

Marco was amazing! Full of info and so attentive. We came in Feb and got immediate seating. We got our apps and breadsticks super quick. Never had to wait for a refil on drinks. Super happy

We had the Meaty Legendand it was delicious. There's just nothing like Chicago Deep Dish and it is definitely worth the 45 min bake time. Jason G was very helpful and provided great service!

We came to Gino's East on Superior for lunch today. We were excited to try it out. It smelled great inside. When we were sat, our server Erik came to our table after a somewhat long wait. We were given waters after we ordered our drinks and food. It was as least 15 minutes before we got our drinks and we had to ask him to bring our sodas to us. Our pizza came out and was cool to the touch. It seems as if they use frozen crust. After I had to ask our server to bring us our drinks, he has ignored our table the whole time. This was such a disappointing experience. We won't be back especially to this location.

I arrived very jet lagged and was greeted and sitted immediately. Jason was very helpful and let me know all my options, wait times and checked in on me. Food hit the spot! They like quality with quantity. Best combo there is in my opinion.

We were going to Chicago with a native Chicago and and we knew we wanted to try deep dish pizza. We’re no stranger to it, we’ve been there numerous times, but we thought we would see what the locals recommended. We almost didn’t go here because we couldn’t get reservations. We decided to walk past and see if we could just walk in and we were lucky to get seated within 15 minutes. Loud, festive and fun. Pitchers of beer, outstanding Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest. The pizzas are expensive, and it would be an outrage other than the fact that it’s downtown Chicago, and you get what you pay for. We ordered a large and a small. They were easily the best Chicago style pizzas I’ve ever had. And it’s amazing that even though I gorged myself, I did not feel over stuffed afterwards, which is a testimony to the quality of the ingredients.

The lunch special of a mini deep dish pizza and side was easy fast and tasty. Our server Katie was very responsive and attentive.

Make reservations otherwise long line to wait. Deep dish takes about 45mins. Spinach mozzarella sticks as an app was good but a little bland.

Incredible pizza, a must-visit for anyone who is in Chicago. Jason was a great host and he was very helpful. I had to try the Malört while I was here and while I didn't hate it I certainly got teased about it by the rest of the table, and Jason joined in the fun. Bring a marker to add to the graffiti that gives this place a unique atmosphere!

This is down the street from our Hotel. We chose to eat here to experience the Chicago Pizza. We were not disappointed. I am not a pizza lover. This pizza is amazing. There was no grease. There is a 25-30 min wait because they are cooked fresh but it is worth it. We also splurged on the cheese sticks. OMGOSH!!! They are amazing and I have craved them since. Our service was great, Food was so tasteful. This place is a gem.

We make sure to hit Gino’s East whenever we’re in Chicago and our lunchtime visit on this trip didn’t disappoint: tasty pizza sauce, generous toppings, and just the right amount of cheese. I know it often seems like a fake review when someone mentions a server by name but Zach really was noticeably good: efficient, friendly, and accommodating.

The last time we ate here, it was 2012, on a 100 + day in July, with four overheated teenagers. Flash forward to tonight, just the wife and I. The pizza was, and continues to be fabulous. Definitely made the return trip to Chicago a memorable one. Sophia was a fantastic waitress and was extremely attentive during our stay. Keep up the great job Gino's East, these NY natives will continue to give you props whenever Chicago deep dish is the topic. Bravo! 🍕

Ginos once we got past the preoccupied host and seated in the restaurant it all spoke for itself. The severs passing by said hello and the energy in the room because people were genuinely happy to be there was fun! Menu was great easy to follow and our server was amazing young lady!

So, we have been making periodic pizza pilgrimages to Chicago (and specifically for Geno’s East because it is perfection) since 2015. Coming from the Carolinas it is admittedly a bit of a haul, but wow: always worth the trip. Worth it, eesh, until today…While recommending the previous deep-dish experiences as sort of a saucy, spicy, almost casserole-esque mixing of pepperoni, Italian sausage, green peppers and creamy melty mozzarella all beautifully contained in a sort of thin crisp pan lining with maybe a hint of cornbread tang ( ooh, so very special) - well, today we had, like, pan pizza. A buttery pizza rising crust sort of presence that…no thank you. Also a distinct lack of sauce. It was just pizza. And pizza? We can get that anywhere. Other details, of course the location is cool, service was fine, and if we hadn’t been here before….best case: forgettable. Which is a shame, because y’all had something really really special. Hope this was just an off day - or if not, that you find your way back to it. Either way, sorry to have missed you <3

But I doubt we'll try it again! Nothing wrong with the quality of the food - just not our thing. We shared the hummus plate as our waiter, the lovely Jesse, advised the pizza could take up to an hour. The wait wasn't really surprising as the place was absolutely heaving downstairs with very noisy, large groups. And by the time we left, the 2nd floor had also filled up - I counted 18 arrive in just one group. I can't fault the service at all but the whole experience wasn't my cup of tea!

I'm from Chicago and I'm embarrassed that people think this is Chicago's best pizza. I have been here many years ago and it was good. I had a little staycation over Memorial Day weekend and could not believe how terrible this pizza is now. Skip Geno's east and go anywhere else.

If you’re looking for true Chicago-style deep dish pizza, Gino’s East is the place to be! The pizza here is absolutely amazing – thick, cheesy, and packed with flavor in every bite. The crust is golden and buttery, perfectly holding up all that gooey, melted cheese and rich tomato sauce on top. It’s the kind of pizza that’s worth every minute of the wait because you know it’s being made fresh and with care. The deep dish is not just food, it’s an experience – hot, hearty, and so satisfying. Every slice is loaded with cheese, and the balance between the sauce and toppings is just right. Definitely one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had.

OMG..... Best Pizza Pie I have ever had and the crust is amazing too. Very different than pizza crust " as you will eat it all. The Jamie" is a long time waiter there so ask for him when you go and say Hi. We got the small and two pieces each was enough. Half Cheesy legend and the other Ginos Supreme. 40 minutes but soooo worth the wait. I am dreaming of this pizza and cannot wait to return. Must do in Chicago. 64 years in the making.

The best deep pizza in Chicago! In the footsteps of Man vs Food, we arrived at this restaurant and fell in love with it! The line runs fast, the service is attentive and fast and they provide you with convenient takeaway boxes so you don't waste the leftover pizza. Tip: do not take appetizers and wait patiently for pizza, sipping their draft beer. A visit not to be missed!

Filled the need for deep dish pizza. Easy to order for pick up, was on point with the the time that it would be ready. Offered any extras (plates, forks, seasonings) free of charge. Pizza was as good as expected, was more than satisfying.

We had such a great experience! The food and service were fantastic! The recommendations that our server, Chia, gave were spot on! We had the Sticks & Dips appetizer and every bite was wonderful. We got the Italian Special deep dish as our main course and this was the BEST deep dish I’ve ever had! Great food great drinks, great service. We really enjoyed authentic Chicago deep dish. I think the only drawback is how long it takes the pizza to cook, but we realize that is part of the authentic experience. We arrived at 4:30 and got in quickly. Jacob and the team did a great job. Gino’s East was a delicious spot for lunch. We (2 adults, 1 toddler) waited about 20 minutes to be seated as they were very busy. There is a wait for the deep dish (40-ish minutes), but our waiter, Jason, made us aware immediately and suggested an appetizer to start with. We enjoyed reading the names Sharpied on the walls as we waited for our food. Our pizza and mozzarella sticks were wonderful! The staff was friendly and the food delicious!

Had high hopes for Gino’s after following their instagram and hearing about the legendary pizzas. Staff were friendly and attentive but have to say the deep dish pizzas were a little disappointing. We chose to go half and half and it was very difficult to know what half you were eating, but maybe that was our mistake and you are better off with one type per pizza. Table we were taken to hadn’t been wiped down properly and there was spaghetti everywhere, server was more than happy to sort it though. It was by no means horrible, maybe we just hyped it up to more than what it was.

Enjoyed Chicago Style pizza in a casual environment based on a local reccomendation. In addition to pizza their menu features American style Itailion cuisine. Good choice for Pizza.

We arrived on a Friday evening without reservation, but the line outside moved quickly and we were seated within 20 mins. Our Server Susan was extremely attentive, made great suggestion of their house made mozzarella sticks, and guided us on which side of deep dish to get. Visited this eatery lunch time in May 2025, busy place , graffiti all over , ordered lunch deal and their special deep pan pizza, it took 45 minutes for the order to arrive … had to remind the waiter ….delivered just barely warm …. not hot at all . We will probably not visit again .

Chicago is famous for deep dish pizza, and Gino's does a great job with deep dish style. But don't overlook the thin crust pizza at Gino's; it may be the best in the city! We visited on a Tuesday for lunch. It was not crowded and got sat right away. The waiter was super friendly and very attentive. He let us know upfront that the deep dish pizza would take around 45 minutes. ITS WORTH THE WAIT! This was the best pizza we have ever had. We had the meat pizza and it was delicious. The waiter kept our drinks full and stopped in several times to check on us. The medium was too much for two of us but we had leftovers for dinner. Do yourself a favor and get the pizza.

Deep Dish here never disappoints - amazing. Super friendly server - ‘Alex’. He made it really fun for my wife’s first time there. A great way to spend a long lunch in a laid back environment. Only down-side was the hostess started to seat ‘us a couple’ in the dead center of the busiest intersection at a six person table, and seemed hassled when we asked for a two person high-top, hardly a blip in the moment.

Susan was so friendly, and was able to give perfect recommendation’s for what suited our taste! The mozerella dippers were the best.

We tried deep dish pizza for the first time and it was a hit. Compliments to the chef or the pizza maker. It was really good. It did disappoint. My husband and i really enjoyed our experience. The waiter Blake was genuinely nice. It felt like we knew him from before. I also loved that the option was there to half and half our choices. Customer service was good.

Incredible food, service, music!! Overall ambience is amazing. I had the deep dish Italian special 4 slices, was able to finish it solo!!! Loved the combination of the peppers and beef slices. First time to Chicago and hands down the best pizza. Maria was exceptional. She gave us the history of Gino’s and made great suggestions. We started out with the harvest salad…. Do the house dressing… it’s so good we wanted some to go. We ordered a medium OMG. It stood up to its name!!!! Whenever we come Back we’re coming to Maria @ Gino’s East..

The deep dish from Gino's East is almost perfect, with a buttery, crispy crust and a remarkable cheese pull that makes each bite worth the nearly hour-long wait. Despite its richness and flavor, I found the sauce to be a little too thick. Nevertheless, a good selection of regional beers enhanced the experience even more. The local IPA I sampled was particularly good! For deep-dish lovers who like to enjoy their pie with a nice beer, this is a terrific place to visit.

I went to Gino's East for lunch on my last afternoon in Chicago. It is mean to be one of the best places to go for Deep Dish Pizza. I was told it was a 40 minute bake and accepted that but after half an hour was informed that there had been an (unexplained) mix up with the order....This was frustrating and I considered leaving as I had other plans. The Pizza, when it finally arrived after almost an hour, was delicious (I had the OMG vegetarian)...sauce in particular and crust were superb. I've read other reports like this so only go if you can wait an hour for food! Service was friendly.

Saw this place from hotel window and decided to pop in for lunch at midday. Warm welcome by host. Many people had reservations but after a short wait we got a table near the bar and served promptly by Amy who was jovial and helpful in explaining sizes and timing. Food excellent, great vibe!!! Don’t be afraid to share as portions are generous compared to the UK.

Stopped here from a recommendation from our hotel staff and from multiple places online praising Gino's is the best. The line to get in at 7pm on a Wednesday was insane. Staff offered to seat us in The Comedy Bar upstairs for faster seating, which we did. 2 item per person mininum to sit there, which we were not told upfront but we made it work. Had spinach artichoke dip (VERY good), cookies (basic, but tasty), and a small deep dish pizza to share between 2 of us. The pizza was just okay - toppings were pretty standard and didn't taste any different than Pizza Hut. The crust was hard and had no flavor. Sorry Chicago, but if this is the best pizza you have, then Detroit wins at deep dish pizza by a LONG shot. Service was very slow but our waitress was pleasant. Comedians that night were not funny and we left early between sets. Everything was also way overpriced and felt more like a tourist trap.

We had heard that this was the place to visit when you come to Chicago and we were not disappointed. We had to wait for a period of time to get in, but it is absolutely worth it. My husband and I highly recommend coming here and getting a feel of what the taste of Chicago is like. Hopefully you get the same waiter we did. His name is Jason and he’s terrific.

A group of seven of us went to this restaurant. We got in right away. The deep dish pizza does take longer to cook, but they did tell us that upfront. Our waiter was Marco and he did well. All in all a good visit for a Saturday lunch!

Food was delicious. Deep dish pizza took between 45 minutes and an hour. Marco took care of us and kept us hydrated while we were waiting. The restaurant vibe was good, the food was delicious and the service was top notch. I will visit again. Highly recommended.
