A simple, Spartan, interior with simple, delicious food. Service is fast and friendly. Try it and you too will love it.

A little piece of Naples in Atlanta

By MichelleB5 |

We started eating at Antico when it first opened a couple of years ago. We live about 30 miles from the city, so we REALLY have to love a restaurant to make the trek. That being said, we dine at Gio's about once a week. The chicken is Excellent and reminds us of a trip to Italy. The pasta is superb, but the real star is the chicken. Giovanni is still holding court and giving us Bellini's to top off a great experience.

Delicious chicken and flavorful

By Stephanie K |

Loved the spicy Diavalo chicken. It actually had a nice spicy bite to it. My friend had the lemon chicken and that was seasoned to perfection as well. I had them hold the potatoes but did get a chance to taste them. Also delicious. Salad was light and fresh and gave you that Italian feel. Food great and I would definitely go back and recommend to others. I would suggest going on a week day. It is seat yourself and sometimes you will have to hover until others leave.

Hot and overpriced!

By elkhorn86 |

My husband and I along with another couple went to Gio's right after attending a matinee play nearby on Saturday. You walk in and it's a weird setup. You order your food like in a fast food restaurant. But the prices are not like fast food prices. I had the Pollo Al Forno - Parmigiana. It was $17 which included a small salad. We were able to sit at the end of a long table - another group of four people had the other end of the table. I was not impressed with the seating area. I was not impressed with little plastic cups you get for your self for ice water. The cups were stupid little hard plastic party/old-fashioned tumblers/cups. In the eating area, it was loud and hot. Not impressed. For four people our bill was over a hundred dollars. Not worth it. If I'm paying $17 for an entree, I would like to have service. My husband had Sorrento lemon chicken dish. No big deal. I have no desire to go back. I do not like the set up for drinks: there is a cooler by checkout counter where you can choose your drink. Expensive prices. Once again, not impressed.

Great Place after a GT Game

By Robert F |

Found Gio's previously for a casual dinner after a GT game. Went back again this Saturday and decided to write a review. Very simply, Gio's has a limited but ample menu mainly featuring Chicken items, great tasting food and easy casual dining. The lemon chicken, Orange chicken and the Chicken Parmigiana were all fantastic. The Peroni on Tap was an added plus. Highly recommend and will come back when in town.

Best casual restaurant in Atlanta

By arthuruga |

I can't say enough good things about Gio's. It has become our favorite "casual restaurant" in Atlanta. The chicken is out of this world, so juicy & flavorful. We especially love the Diavola, which is spicy but not overbearingly so, with the Calabrian chiles turning it into the most delicious chicken dish I've ever tasted. The salad before the meal is also perfect, especially the hose-made mozzarella. Can't recommend Gio's highly enough.

Best chicken in town!

By Gary M |

Parking is tight, but well worth it. The smell of chicken and pasta makes you hungry as you walk in the store. Walk up to counter and order the lemon or orange chicken, then get your number and take a seat at one of the communal tables. The servers first bring out a fresh salad, great dressing. Next comes out the baked-broiled chicken with potatoes with broth poured over it. Big portion of chicken, it taste as good the next day reheated up. It is a must go in Atlanta!

Wow -- Delicious and fun

By Russell N |

Great atmosphere and fantastic food. Cypress salad was simple and delicious. Lemon chicken -- roasted half chicken, roasted potato "fingers", crusty bread to dip into flavorful sauce. Came with a simple salad with shaved parmagiano. Chicken parmagiano was great, too -- lightly fried breast in red sauce, cheese, spaghetti. Next door the hazelnut gelato is excellent.

Loved this place!

By adougla2 |

Gio's has all the makings for a great place. The staff was very friend, the seating is casual/fun and most of all the food is delicious. We ordered a few things to share and got wine to wash it all done. We loved it all.

Falling off

By GSSATLANTA |

The first time here was spectacular. This time, however, was a disappointment. The service was terrible. Food was nothing special. I won't be back

Greta food

By Erik B |

I was concerned that with my group of 14 we would have trouble getting a table on a Saturday. We showed up at and sat ourselves at 5:25pm. If we had come at 5:45 we would not have been able to grab two large tables together. No reservations allowed. I ordered for the table, 2 of every entree ( chicken dishes only). We brought our own wine and most drank water from the two water dispensers (water is free and self service water dispensers). There is bottled water available for purchase. There are some soft drinks in bottles for purchase but bringing your own wine is really nice and saves a lot. The food was awesome! You order at the counter and food runners deliver it to your table. We ate family style because we shared the plates. but you can only order family sized PORTIONS for take out. This was a fun place for our group, food was excellent. Parking and later seating (after 6pm) is difficult.

5 Star Food, 1 Star Service.....Gio, you gotta fix the customer service!

By Viknd |

My family and I love the food at Gio’s Chicken (and Antico, and the gelato place) and we eat here often. Last wkend, five of us ate dinner early on Sunday and there very few people in the restaurant. The food was excellent (lemon chicken, chicken with peppers, spaghetti and meatballs, salad, garlic bread all fresh and delicious) as it always is, and peroni on tap was also very good, however the service was awful. After we all ordered and gave an 18% tip (which is generous as there is very little for the waitress/cashier to do) I asked for a cup of ice for the ice water because their was no ice in the bucket next to the water. I was told “I will bring it to you”, and it never came. The wait for our chicken dishes was over 30 mins which was way too long for a practically empty restaurant. I asked the waitress for some salt and waited...and waited....after 10 mins, before my food was completely cold, I walked into the kitchen to find my waitress and and again ask for some salt. It still took another 5 mins before salt in a container was delivered to my table. Gio, your service is deteriorating. We had ice cream across the street after dinner and Service there was much better, and best gelato in Atlanta.

Delicious

Chicken amalfi. Lots of food. A great salad. A little pricey but not bad. Definitely plan to return...

Best Chicken dish in ATL

By N B 3 |

Great food and fun in-town casual atmosphere. We've had several of the featured chicken dishes- all delicious. Can bring your own wine and beer and a gelato bar in the back. Highly recommend.

Great Lunch

By KimsHusband |

A friend had recommended Gio's so we gave it a try while down at Georgia Tech this week. The menu isn't real clear - so we went for something easy and all ordered panini's. We were very surprised when the came out because #1 they were huge and #2 they come with a nice side salad. The parmigiana was very good - lots of chicken and great flavor. The bread was good and not dominant so you could really taste the chicken and the sauce. We will be back!

Overrated

By HugoD33 |

Service is bad, you have to pay in advance before you sit, wine selection is limited, plastic glasses, over cooked pasta, canned tomato sauce and average chicken

SO GOOD

By soitgoes14 |

The chicken is fantastic. Tender, juicy and flavorful. Don’t’ hesitate to go. You can bring your own wine with no corkage fee.

Great hidden gem in ATL….

By Lori H |

Love the family style atmosphere of this restaurant. The chicken is really delicious with the lemon chicken being my favorite of all. I didn't realize that salads come with it so be aware of this. They got an extra order out of us as we ordered the Caprese salad since we wanted a salad. We were a party of 8 and I could't believe how quickly our food all came out. I would recommend that you pick out your table and have someone stay there while you order your food at the front counter. I also did love that you can bring wine and uncork it there. They also do family style dishes for take out for 3-4 people. Parking can be to tough in the area but if you want some great chicken, perhaps a pasta and some authentic tasting fresh food this place is a gem. You can also go next door for Gelato for dessert which many in our party did do. Looking forward to dining there again soon...

Love the pizza next door but this place is just ok

By MaxGA |

I'm a fan of Antico Pizza but had never tried Gio's until now. I don't think I'll be returning. It's got the extremely casual atmosphere of Antico but without all the energy that makes Antico more charming than annoying. Like Antico, you order at the counter. Like Antico, the folks that work there are a bit surly. (Not really the true Italian experience they seem to pride themselves on.) We had two different chicken dishes. The prices were very high for lunch. Given the portions, maybe the price wasn't outrageous because the portions were so enormous. Now I love to eat, but the size of the dishes was actually a little ridiculous. I will be eating on the Sorrento Lemon Chicken for days (although I was already bored by it by the time I finished one of the five large pieces of chicken). The entrees come with a salad (little too much vinegar) and a piece of bread (mine was a kinda stale piece of garlic bread). The meal did remind me of food I ate in Italy when I lived there but I wouldn't have gone back to that place either. And what is up serving the tiny Cokes and Diet Cokes? Just charge me more for a real size. Those tiny ones are just ridiculous.

Heading back soon

By Christopher Q |

I had heard a lot about this place from friends and we tried it last week. I had heard so many positive comments about Gio's, that I can't say I was pleasantly surprised, but I found the comments well-founded. It has a limited menu featuring roasted chicken in various recipes. The most popular one is the chicken roasted with Amalfi lemons. You get a quarter chicken in a bowl with a couple of long, roasted potato wedges in a bit of delicious broth. They come with salad. Inside the building is a gelato bar and sandwich bar to order pannini if chicken is not to your liking. It's next door to a great pizza place, same owners. The interior is family style seating at long tables, nothing fancy, but sufficient and fun. A chicken dish will set you back about $15 and you'll leaving nothing on the plate but bones, if you are like me.

Best Italian food!

By MeLi_MeL007 |

Authentic Italian! Delicious food. Food quantity is a lot and worth the price. Definitely must check it out. Casual dining.

Yummmmy!!

By jjbalua |

Went on a Friday evening and there was plenty if room for our group of five. Salad and garlic bread comes with your meal. The salad is very good, fresh and light! I ordered the pollo margherita which is awesome. Others in the family ordered the steak, diavola, lemon sorrento, and parmigiana. All very good! The diavola is a bit spicy so beware. I would definitely come back here again and again! It's sooo delicious! Next time i will try the scarpiello. I hear it's really good!! Save a little room for dessert at the gelato place down the block. The tiramisu is the best i have ever had!!

Where's the water

By Mike G |

Food was a little below par for me. I had the lemon chicken and the only lemon I tasted was when I actually bit into the lemon ring as garnishment. If you want water you have to get it out of a dispenser that's not even cooled just straight from the tap. Great décor and theme but gimme some good food instead.

Great food, need better furniture

By Jxnray7 |

The food was great, and the service was prompt and attentive. The picnic tables and wooden folding chairs weren't particularly comfortable for dining though. Each of the four of us really enjoyed our meals and the authentic Italian spices and taste.

Return visit

By wanderingitalian |

This is a 'go to location' for me, went with friends had the lemon chicken always good. Great to also have a place where you can bring your own wine. Well worth a visit, popular spot with limited seating inside.

Star of the Italian Village!

By JennATL |

The lemon chicken is still the bomb! It is so good: tender and super flavorful, without being overwhelming. Another treat, off the "poorman's menu", was the caprese salad. The cheese was the real deal, buffalo, as in water buffalo, and the tomatoes were absolutely at their prime. The staff at this outlet was actually very pleasant and helpful. The "background" music can be a little overwhelming, but it just gets loud in the family style atmosphere. Be warned this is a communal style setting in a old warehouse type building...expect less than casual. Parking can be a bear. There is lot and some street parking. The complex now offers valet for $5, which is kind of a lot considering you will likely spend less than 1 hour for a meal.

Interesting and delicious

By spaintravelerAtlanta |

Went here on a Saturday night with 6 people. Parking available on the street and a small lot across from restaurant. You walk in and stand in a short line to order your food. The choices are 3 or 4 different flavors of chicken which comes with a salad and bread. They also have a pasta dish. You find a table (sometimes you have to share a table with other people) and wait for the server to bring your food. You can bring your own bottle of wine/beer/spirits at no additional cost. My husband and I shared 2 of the chicken dishes...one was lemon flavored(which they are famous for) and the other was orange flavored. To be honest I couldn't tell the difference between the 2. They were both delicious as was the salad. One of the people in our party ordered the pasta which was good. The chicken dish is large which can really feed 2 people so I would suggest ordering one chicken and one pasta. And...the price is great...$12ish per person. Fun place..

Very casual, family style, rustic Italian chicken

By OneHappyFamily1 |

Ample portions of wonderfully moist chicken. Ordered sorrento lemon chicken and enjoyed. Our party of 4 sat in the front room near the counter. Enjoyed watching the crowd. Very casual - select from menu boards on the wall and order at the counter - wait staff comes through the dining area with plates yelling the name of the entrée to see which table ordered it. A teen in our party doesn't like Italian (heavy cheese, red sauce) but loved Gio's as the dish was flavorful and tender rustic chicken - more Tuscan farm style.

Good food

By V M |

Gio's in an unpretentious restaurant with good food. The chicken dishes my group had and the spaghetti were great. The portion sizes are large. The chicken dishes each had what seemed like 1/2 a chicken in them. After dinner, the group went across the street to Gio's Cafe for gelato.

Little Italy Gem

By DecadePlusFanOfCanoe |

Fabulous deal of atmosphere and excellent food them stop out back for a coffee and gelato. Even got the little kids a pizza next door, very accommodating. The kids really missed out as te two chicken dishes we had were amazing

"Great lemon chicken"

By Charlie P |

Stopped in at Gio's for some authentic Italian-infused chicken and were completely amazed at this gem of a restaurant. Dinner portions are easily share-able - wine and beer are reasonably priced. It's a simple menu, chicken and pasta, but when you do it this well that's all you need. The lemon chicken was pretty much amazing, infused with flavor and served with potatoes and bread. Have somebody else order pasta so you can share a little. This is the chicken dish you will remember for a long time after. The salad was super fresh. Highly recommended.

Excellent Lemon Chicken

By Ed F |

Gio's new restaurant is on Hemphill Ave next door to his pizza restaurant. It's a simple menu, chicken and pasta, but when you do it this well that's all you need. Get the signature lemon chicken dish and have somebody else order pasta so you can share a little. This is the chicken dish you will remember for a long time after. The dining is community seating and drink options are limited but neither is a big deal. After dinner go to the back and get an espresso and some gelato to end your meal. You can thank me later.

Chicken unlike any we'd had before!

By Lauren D |

Let me start by saying we like chicken...a lot. It is a staple in our house. So, when our friends proposed going to Gio's for dinner, I didn't really get excited. What's so special about this chicken? Please pardon my ignorance. We ordered the popular lemon chicken. This chicken was unlike any we'd had before. The smell should be made into a candle. The juiciness was on a scale of its own. The meat was falling off the bone and flavorful throughout. The portion was generous, more than enough for two. Added bonus for the scrumptious salad and BYOB. I wish we lived in Atlanta, so we could eat here more often.

Great food! Know before you go...

By BhayB |

The food here is delish! The service was fine. The workers do need to be a little better trained to answer questions. There was conflicting information online about what time they opened for lunch, so I called and was told they open at 11:30, which is true. What they didn't tell me is that the full menu is not available until noon (including their signature lemon chicken dish). From 11:30- Noon only Paninis and salads are available. I ordered the chicken salad which was OK, but certainly lackluster compared to their regular menu items. On the plus side, arriving early does guarantee plenty of parking, which can be a challenge as the day goes on or in the evening. There is parking in the front and back of the building and also there is a side street nearby. Arriving on the early side also increases one's chances of getting a more comfortable seat with a bit of a cushion and a back. The wooden stools around the tables up front are very uncomfortable. All in all a great restaurant. The regular menu is wonderful!

Watch out for the owner if you're dark-skinned....

By Germaine Thomas |

Great staff, horrible owner. He actually kicked me out of the outside area because I was wearing a sleeveless T-Shirt with a jacket and jeans despite having several women wearing spaghetti straps. I have been by there and seen other men wear sleeveless shirts as well with no problem. Must be because I'm from Costa Rica...

Excellent Casual Spot in 14th St and Northside Area

By Jim J |

Authenic casual Italian restaurant. Order at the counter and servers will bring order to your table. We love the Sorrento Lemon Chicken; it is their #1 seller. Hearty portions with potatoes and salad. You can also Take-Out.

Great Italian Chicken

By Robin L |

Our team had a team dinner here and it was a fun night in little Italy. You order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. All things Italian chicken. Each entree came with salad and garlic bread. You can get pizza at the restaurant next door and they will bring it over to Gio’s. We all loved the informal atmosphere, laid back room and really good food. The pizza was excellent.

A second visit...

By spbutterworth |

A birthday celebration in a relaxed setting led me to get the family style chicken and pasta from Gio's (and bring it home to enjoy). The chicken as usual was amazing; tender, succulent and so full of citrus flavour. The pasta was cooked perfectly with a light sauce and cheese. Of all the good restaurants in Atlanta I could have chosen for this meal, I am glad I chose Gio's.

Extremely Favorful Dishes!

By Kelly L |

This was our first time eating at Gio's, but certainly not our last! The atmosphere is laid back but the dinners are worthly of a five star restaurant. Prices are reasonable and the portions are not skimpy. The Sorrento Lemon chicken was so delicious, as was the Al Forno and the Scarpiello. We also got a pizza at Antico next door and the crust was incredible! It took about 5 minutes from the time we ordered to having the box in our hands. Desserts at Caffe Gio didn't dissapoint either. We had the tiramisu and lemon gelatto, both excellent!

Little Italy in Atlanta

By Orlandoroadtrip |

Loud, busy and a little bit crazy--just like an Italian family. You order at the counter and then hover for a table. You might end up eating family-style with strangers. Gio, the owner, couldn't have been a more genial host. The food is hearty and delicious, just what I'd imagine getting in a bistro in Naples. We ordered several plates to share (four for six of us) and couldn't finish everything. But somehow, we managed to find room for gelato.

Chicken Parm heavan

By NYFoodDude |

Took 22 people to dinner. This place worked out great. One long table was set up for us in a private room. (Only issue we had was that we had prearranged for a large table, and when we got there they had no idea - the person we worked with was not there. Owner was not very accommodating. But the staff was). Ordered platters of chicken parm and lemon chicken and pasta. Came with garlic bread and salad. BYO. It was a lot of fun, food was very tasty, and the staff was very helpful.

Great Italian lemon chicken

By Jim M |

The Sorrento lemon chicken is wonderful. It comes with roasted potatoes, bread and a side salad. The food tastes authentic and we had some to take home. We then stopped at the Gelato bar next door, wonderful. Great food and will be back.

Sorrento Lemons!

By Trieffort |

We have been coming to eat here regularly. Love their chicken. When its fresh, its great. They cook it in big batches so once in a while you will find a dried out potato or chicken gets a bit tough sitting in a hot pan. Make it there earlier to ensure the freshness of your food. I also like their 'purple label' wine from Sicily. It is a great accompaniment to a Sorrento Lemon chicken. We tried several flavors of chicken there but always come back to basics. Sorrento is the best. Portions are generous and one dish is enough for two, if not overly hungry. Salad comes with it. And don't forget to check out their Italian desserts. You don't want to miss their pasticceria! Gelato is not cheap but totally worth every penny. We appreciate the fact that mostly all ingredients are imported from Italy. It makes a huge difference!

Outstanding

By Robert F |

We love Antico's pizza next door (same owner) and wanted to try Gio's. We heard it was v good and we were not disappointed. The lemon chicken, Orange chicken and chicken parmigiana were all outstanding. Just like Antico's, the ordering is done at a counter and your meal brought to your table. Casual atmosphere and when the roasted chicken runs out, they close for the day. If you eat before 8:30p you should be OK but later certainly call ahead. Gio's also has a family style for take out only. Highly recommend.

Unique, Casual, and Great Food

By BJAATL |

If you want something different, GO. Order at a counter with a limited but excellent menu of roasted chicken and pasta. Caprese salad a must. You can get pizza delivered from next store. AND there is an amazing gelatto place at the back.

Hearty Italian fare worth the wait

By aperry932 |

Came here on a Saturday night which meant a decent wait and some scrambling to find somewhere for the four of us to sit. Their signature dish is the Sorrento Lemon Chicken which is made with lemons imported from (yes, you guessed it) Sorrento, Italy. One person in our party had this dish and thoroughly enjoyed it. I decided to go for something a little spicier and tried the Diavola. The calabrian peperoncini were slightly spicier than regular peperoncini and were dark red in color as opposed to green. The overall flavor of the dish was superb and the broth in the bottom of the bowl can be sopped up with the bread and/or potatoes that come with each chicken dish. I'll definitely be back in order to try some of the other chicken dishes as well as some of the pasta dishes.

Real Italian Pasta & Chicken Dishes

By uda-11 |

Gio has done it again, the food is filling and great. We have tried several of the chicken dishes and would recommend any of them. This is not a fancy pants place so don't get all dressed up for a night on the town but do bring your appetite and by the way you want go home hungry. Pice is right and the food is quality *****

YUMMIER!!!!!!!

By Noelie662 |

Best lemon chicken we have had in this city. Too small of place, but very nice take-out arrangements. Really GREAT food.

Their Chicken is Thebomb.com

By sabes0322 |

I would highly recommend this restaurant. The servings are huge and not so expensive. I love everything they have but most especially the amalfi chicken. Parking is quite challenging but just be patient because it is so worth it.

Excellent gelato

By spbutterworth |

Good gelato selection and their coffee is very good. Try a shot of espresso drizzled over your gelato.

Great food, ok service

By Moquahontas |

The food is spectacular and unpretentious. The service is kind of short and abrupt. The beautiful raven haired lady at the front with the impeccable make up really should try to have her attitude match her beauty. I hadn't been there before and she was nonplussed to explain the menu and the culture. Its basically self-service.

Excellent

By Dgbbgt |

Excellent food and flavor. Meals come with salad plus bread, side and main dish which it doesn't say on the menu. Will go again soon.

Holy overpricing, Batman!

By Sara M |

I really don’t see what all the fuss is about this place. The prices are ridiculously high, and you don’t even get waited on, but they ask you to leave a tip when you order & pay at the counter before you realize that. They have bottled drinks - 8 oz. bottles of Coke products for about $3 (!) each, a variety of other drinks, or you can serve yourself tap water for free. While most restaurants do seem to charge around $3 for soda, usually it’s in a glass that’s refillable. 8 oz. of soda in a bottle for $3 is robbery. I ordered the chicken parm, and before that came out, I was served a salad that was good. Then came the chicken parm. This was the second good part of the meal. The parm was tasty. However, the garlic bread that came with it was rock hard, and the spaghetti under the parm was not tasty at all. So I basically had a salad and chicken breast for $17. Ten dollars would have been more than a fair price for this meal. It’s not like you’re paying for atmosphere, and there are no waitresses who come by to ask if everything is ok. Even at the end of the meal, some of our party took some of their meal home, and they had to go get their own take-out boxes. (Again, I’m wondering why they ask for a tip at the beginning of the meal.) My advice? Skip it. Go try one of the restaurants at Atlantic Station. At least there you’d get some atmosphere with the cost of he food.

A great gem in midtown

By fitzga |

Already loved Antico, now there is Gio's right on the same corner. A simple menu done wonderfully! The lemon chicken is awesome!

Some amazing chicken!

By lalasueb |

The short of it: Best chicken I've ever tasted; relatively high price. We headed on a Sunday to eat at Antico's Pizza-I had never been. Unfortunately, It is closed on Sunday, but we discovered that the same owner had opened a chicken restaurant next door. We were surprised at the high price for chicken and pasta dishes eaten at picnic tables, but the portion size was large and the quality and taste exceptional! They lost points with us for the no sharing policy, although we (somewhat) understand with the small dining room space. Next time I will ask for a "to go" box when I place my order and take half of it home. I definately recommend you give it a try.

Great pasta but not great for dine in except of college crowd or super relaxed

By FREQTRAV12 |

We tried this new restaurant next to Antico and found it to be very good if you don't mind eating on picnic tables inside a refurbed warehouse. The arrabiata is superb if you don't mind al dente style. I'm not a big fan of firm pasta but the flavor was so good that I would come back and eat the dish again. Price is great and plenty of free parking available. This is not a place for semi formal or formal dress. This is more of a college crowd super relaxed setting. But kids would get a kick out of this place. The menu is very limited but I would still urge lovers of Italian food to try this restaurant.

Fantastic every time!

By Erica H |

This restaurant serves the best food in town! It might not look like much from the outside but the food is amazing. I have had the lemon chicken at least a dozen times and it never fails. Always delicious. And the service is wonderful too! Everyone is pleasant and helpful. You order at the counter but they serve right to your table. Other menu items are delicious too - especially the pasta and meatballs! There is so much food you will find yourself taking it home, or eating the WHOLE THING! Enjoy!

Great spaghetti.

By Chris W |

My wife and I always visit Antico pizza when we come through town so we decided to try their sister company Gio. I always order extra sauce with my spaghetti and they brought out a whole bowl of sauce. I was in heaven. I had the spaghetti with meatballs and my wife had the chicken parmigiana. We were the first customers in the door on a quiet Sunday afternoon and we had a great experience. Even the bread that they gave us with our meals was out of this world.

Extremely poor customer service

By David M |

I am actually surprised by the poor customer service experience I had today. Ordered a family meal the cashier said I coul eat at the restaurant and she would provide plates. The order took over and hour to get ready and when delivered, the cashier said I had to leave the restaurant and eat it somewhere else. When asked why she did not honor what she offered she just said I'm sorry but you have to eat your food somewhere else. When asked for a refund it took over 15 minutes because she gas cheating on her phone with what I guess as her manager to resolv the issue. my 7 year old was completely starving and had to leave the restaurant to find something else to eat. The food ended up in the trash can which makes no sense, three customers completely dissatisfied and the restaurant with a very poor rating. No winners here, too sad, but they did not care... I wanted to write this review on their website but the site says that it is under construction

Great chicken, salads, and you can BYOB!

By R3770WEanthonyf |

Many different chicken dishes to choose from. They are all great. You can also bring your own beer or wine. You can also bring over the pizza from next door if everyone isn't feeling chicken. A great coffee and dessert place is just across the street that is part of the same ownership.

WOW!!!

By zamacuco |

The food here is simple but so flavorful. Chicken Parm Sandwich delicioso. The only reason I give it a 4 instead of 5 is because the girls at cashier counter. There were only a handful of customers I would say 6-8 in the entire place, and every time the runner came out with food calling out numbers the girls behind the counter never helped to facilitate getting the food to the correct customers.

The lemon chicken is THE BOMB!

By GAMIS |

Quirky space with a laid back vibe. Simple, not fancy....focus is on the food, which is fine by me! The salad was super fresh....the cheese was some of the best I've had. The Sorrento Lemon Chicken was so flavorful, juicy....it was simply exquisite. I love that you can bring your own beer and wine. Can't wait to go back and try other flavors.

Pricey but Good

By GPBurdell67 |

Gio's is part of a cluster of restaurants on Hemphill Avenue that act like a little Italian village. It's all Neapolitan themed because the owner is from Naples. Our party of six went early on a Saturday night to make sure we could be seated and we barely made it. You order at a counter and then the food comes out relatively quickly. First the side salads, which are large and accompany the entrees. Then the entrees, mostly chicken dishes but also a decent selection of pasta too. The quality is good, the flavors are very good and the portions are ample. Prices are relatively high but it's a good value. Parking is available if you circle around the area.

Great find!!

By lovemy2dogs |

Happened upon this restaurant by accident. Loved it!!! Fresh delicious food. Sorrento chicken was amazing. Will return!

Phenomenal food, horrible service

By RSangiovanni |

I ordered the lemon chicken and my wife ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. The portions are huge and you can easily share them between two people. The food is delicious and is as close as it gets to authentic Italian food in the US. The service on the other hand is rude and inattentive at best. The girl at the counter seemed miserable to be working there. The place is not very kid friendly either. We have a 3 year old and I asked the cashier for a piece of paper and pen so we can keep our 3 year old entertained. The cashier was not very helpful and didn't even make an effort to try to accommodate us... Simply said they didn't have pens in the restaurant. You certainly don't go to this place for the service. I would suggest to order out instead.

Great food

By Kelly D |

The Sorrento Lemon Chicken is awesome and a healthy portion - You will not leave there hungry. Casual atmostphere and reasonable prices.

The Best Hands down Italian food in the Southeast.

By PDMRacing |

Bring your appetite and a good friend and get ready for the best Italian food bar none in the state (except for my Wifes cooking) Everything is good, if you like spice get the Chicken Scarpiello, WOW . Everything is good. Made with great ingredients , grab a pie next door and a drink & enjoy a taste of Italy in Atlanta

Casual Atmosphere, Excellent Food

By Rebecca L |

You will order at the front and then sit at one of the picnic style community tables. As long as you're not expecting table service, you won't be disappointed. Although it's very casual, the food is excellent. On first glimpse, the chicken dishes seem pricey at around $15. But once you realize this includes a large serving with salad and bread, it's really a great deal. The quality ingredients they use make the food really stand out. I recommend the Sorrento Lemon Chicken. My husband likes spicy food and got the Diavola Chicken. Go early as the parking lot and restaurant fill up.

Check out the Caffe for lunch

By 699JaneM |

I've been to Gio's for dinner (take out usually) on several occasions. We were in the neighborhood last weekend and decided to check out the Caffe for a quick bite. Everything was really delicious - the Genovese panni was super tasty and the lattes were nice and strong. Also tried the salted caramel gelato was divine. There was also a nice little outdoor sitting area out back - you are facing a parking lot, but it was cute nonetheless. I couldn't award 5 stars b/c I thought the prices were a tad high, and I have a serious issue with the fact they won't let you sample the gelato flavors before you commit!??!

Good Value, High Quality & Portion

By rjhope9 |

I knew Gio's would be good because it is attached to Antico. But it still suprised me. Not only was the food amazing, but the prices were amazing for the portion size.

So worth it!

By William T |

What are you waiting for? Drop what you’re doing and head to Gio’s right now because it is amazing! I’ve been obsessing about returning and eating my way through the menu ever since my first visit, a couple of months ago. Everything you’ve heard is true, from the rapturous raving about the food to the complaints about parking. I got the signature Sorrento lemon chicken with fresh amalfi style lemons, garlic, oregano and olive oil. It’s half a chicken served in a bowl with a mixture of chicken broth, olive oil, lemon and garlic and is perfect for sopping up with crusty bread. It’s swoon-worthy and is the dish that created all the buzz and cemented Gio’s reputation. The menu is short and sweet with both traditional and special chicken dishes along with pasta. The atmosphere is super casual. You order at a counter and sit family style at long farm tables where silverware is stuffed into Mason jars. Your meal is delivered from the kitchen, but everything else is pretty much self-serve. Noise levels are very high and parking can be a challenge. But it is so worth it.

A nice Italian Fix

By AnnaB1952 |

Sister Restaurant to Antica Pizza and right next door. You will find prices on the high side but you get enough for two people to share on both chicken and pasta dishes. Three of us had 2 chicken and one pasta dish and still had leftovers for two. The food is delicious; tastes authentic and homemade. Keep in mind that it is open seating so "first come, first serve" and you share the tables with strangers. It gets very crowded and you could find your self standing with your food as is the case next door so go early... They serve beer and italian wine but you can bring your own with no corkage fee. For that, you will drink out of cheap plasticware, just sayin....

Not for the weak hearted!

By dotters |

Ordered the Blood Red Orange Chicken (just one, because they are huge so it was enough for 2 people)! It was served with potatoes and a nice side salad. But man, the GARLIIC!!!! Whoa! Hadn't been to Gio's in a long time and forgot they were heavy handed with the garlic! It was delicious, but very, very garlicy. Even with a sweet dessert, the lingering effects... Understand that Gio's is not inexpensive - just this one dish was $20 with taxes. Still, it was very good!

Great Meal at Gio's

By JNo30309 |

Stopped in at Gio's for some authentic Italian-infused chicken and were completely amazed at this gem of a restaurant. Casual atmosphere, family-style seating, unpretentious in every way... but absolutely delicious. Dinner portions are easily share-able - wine and beer are reasonably priced... or you can bring your own and there is no corkage fee! Definitely worth spending a few extra minutes finding a place to park. Added bonus - the restaurant is linked to the owner's Gelato shop. When you're done with dinner you can stroll over and grab a great cup of coffee and some creamy "its the real thing" Gelato. We are definitely going back very soon. Highly recommended.

Wonderful Italian Chicken Dishes

By GTMann |

Gio's is located near Georgia Tech in a what may become Atlanta's Little Italy. The decor and service are okay but what brings the crowds is the delicious chicken dishes. We enjoyed the orange and lemon chicken. The citrus flavors and herbs enhanced the perfectly prepared chicken. While both dishes were excellent, my wife and I thought the orange chicken was the best. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Just WOW

By Mike B |

Really impressed with the quality if the sauces at Gio's. We have tried only the Arrabiata and the Al Forno, but both left us going "wow" and determined to make it a point to stop by for more soon. Just really, REALLY outstanding food. Delicious.

Very good

By Tom N |

Casual and very good, took family there for fun evening. Would definitely return. Section narrow but good, mostly chicken dishes.

Clever and simple

By Firejdb |

I visited Gio's on a busy Saturday night. This is definitely canteen style dining. One queues to order from a limited chicken dominated menu (what else!). It's also byo although wine can be bought on site. It's good, wholesome Italian food. No pizzas ( they are available for the sister restaurant next door). Enjoy the hubbub and simplicity of Gio's.

Authentic Italian Cuisine

By MacAtlantaGa_ |

We had dinner at Gio's, after a friend had recommended it. I had the Lemmon Chicken which was excellent. My wife had the steak entree, which was average. The cut of meat was not worth $20. I was surprised to pay $8 for wine served in plastic cups. Gio's has a fun vibe and they take their food very seriously. I will go back for lunch.

Excellent food

By Scott M |

Gio’s Is next-door to Antico Pizza, which started the Neapolitan pizza craze in Atlanta several years ago. These two restaurants, along with a gelato parlor and a small bar create a little Italian district in West Midtown Atlanta. The service is fast casual-you order at the register and they bring it to you. There’s plenty of seating inside and out. The menu is very limited. A handful of chicken dishes, a handful of pasta dishes and a few sandwiches at lunch. However, what they do, they do very well. The chicken dishes are all half a chicken (+ salad, potato wedges, and a deliciously crusty piece of bread) for a little under $20. Most people can get two meals out of this. The chicken dishes all come with a lot of juice for “sopping” the bread. The chicken is mostly white meat and incredibly tender on the inside but still has crispy skin. The pasta also has large portion sizes. It looks as if, once cooked, it was baked with some cheese on top, which added to the deliciousness. It also comes with bread and a salad. We sat outside because it was a lovely afternoon and then afterward enjoyed gelato for dessert. I will definitely do this again.

Chicken like no other!

By Jim K |

Our family met here for dinner (kids and all) and had a wonderful meal, and a nice experience. Casual and comfy, the kids enjoyed it, too. All the dinners at our table of six were great, and more than enough for one! Highly recommend!

So So

By ttbryan1 |

I had known about this place for awhile since I had been to Antico Pizza, previously. It is located in the same location as Antico and I think it all may have the same ownership. They do have parking around the facility. You walk in, order, then they bring you the food. I had the chicken aracina, which was fine. It is quite a hearty portion with bread. My friend had the chicken scarpielo, which he said was fine. The prices were fine and the service was good. Overall, I thought it was fine. I guess I was expecting more since I had always loved Anitco.

Great Pasta and Chicken

By toyman111 |

Gio's has some of the best pasta and chicken in Atlanta. I had the spaghetti and meatballs and my wife had the Greek chicken. Both come with a small salad and garlic bread, Both portions are very large. If you eat half you have more than enough for the next day. There must have been a pound of spaghetti and two large meat balls. My wife's chicken dish must have been a whole chicken. Quick service and great food.

Next to the best pizza place in the USA is Gios: home of some fabulous chicken and pasta dishes.

By Jim W |

Line too long at Anticos?? Go to their sister restaurant Gios! Fresh Bell & Evans chicken done in 5 distinct cooking methods served with a small salad and baked potato 'pickles' - or one of the 4 pasta dishes; all unique as well. I could eat here and be happy every night!

WORST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER

By Pamela M. |

HORRIBLE experience here. The waiter accidentally spilled hot oil and lemon-based chicken juice all over my brand new expensive Italian handbag the very first time I wore it and RUINED it. I totally understand that this was an accident and was not done on purpose, but the management's reaction was absolutely appalling. Their response? Shrugged shoulders and this: "Uh, sorry...accidents happen." REALLY??? I will never return and hope those of you who appreciate good customer service will do the same. I have even written the owner who didn't bother to respond. Buyer beware: they don't care about you or your dining experience.

Hidden treasure in plain sight

By brownjeep |

I was visiting a friend in Atlanta and was craving a great meal. Being super "picky" about eating out, he knew exactly what I was looking for and took me here to Gio's. Ever since, I have wanted to do a review to make sure that not only are these people recognized for being AMAZING...but to hopefully sway others into trying them out! Wasn't super impressed with the exterior of the place, which made me even more excited about trying them out, as I have found that the best food is usually found in the most unexpected places! This was certainly the case here. Service was prompt, food was excellent, and the prices were extremely reasonable. Unsure about the rest of the restaurant, but we were seated in an area that was simply decorated and not "fancy" at all. But again, we went for the food...and was very pleased. It has been a couple of months since the visit, but the visit was so memorable, I keep looking forward to returning! Great job everyone!

Great Food, Picnic Table Atmosphere, Challenging Parking

By GuyFromAtlanta_GA |

If you want nothing more than a great meal, this is the place. We all had chicken parm and we all thought they were home runs. The meal comes with a salad and spaghetti. Seasoning is just right, pasta tastes homemade and the sauce does not overwhelm. We all had Peroni on draft. Be aware that you stand in line, order from the board on the wall, and get a number on your receipt. Then you wait for a table like a vulture and jump on it. They call your number, you acknowledge, and they bring your food to your table. It is open, loud, and busy. This is not your special anniversary place. If you can handle all this, as well as scarce parking, then you will enjoy a fine meal.

Nice place

By Michel K |

The pasta Diabola!! Excellent. We family oriented place with reasonable prices and large portions. Super friendly staff. An informal alternative with Italian flavors.

Great sister restaurant to Antico!

By Guinnguy |

Hard to pass by Antico and not have dinner there but if you have had the pizza Gio's is absolutely the next logical stop. We had two of the chicken dishes which both exceeded my expectations. Just like Antico next door you order when you come in at the counter and then find a seat at one of the communal tables. Gio's creates a really nice atmosphere for the meal. You are also allowed to bring in your own wine or beer. I will be splitting my time between here and Antico!

Amalfi in the ATL

By Gabriela M |

I felt like I was back in the Amalfi Coast. This is the kind of restaurant/business that I apprecaite. Great food, and chill environment. The ambiance was true to what you might see in Sorrento, Positano or Amalfi, nothing fancy, chic or hipster, just clean, with the bare essentials, and with the food as their main headliner. We ordered the Sorrento Chicken and the Sorrentina Pasta. We received two very basic (but perfectly delicious starter salads with our meal orders). The chicken was succulent, drenched in a lemon zest and butter sauce, with roasted potatoes. What a dish. The pasta was al-dente, the vegetables were fresh, warm vesuvian tomatoes adroned the dish, the basil abundant. Scattered across the pasta, were small pieces of baby buffalo mozarella, drizzled in olive oil and garlic. No heavy sauces, just clean, fresh ingredients in every dish. The starter salad was an extra and yet it wasn't an afterthought, it was delicate, and really fresh, with a light dressing and slices of parmesan cheese. So many restaurants feel a need to overcompensate for crappy ingredients by adding layer upon layer of sauces and heavy creams, etc. At Gios's Chicken Amalfitano you can expect clean flavors, made with fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. It's almost as if Gio's was saying "Hello everyone come and see how great we can cook with the most basic and simplest foods!" It really is delicious. Possibly one of the better meals I have had in Atlanta so far. There is parking. You order at the counter and the food is brought to your table. They go by the number on your receipt so make sure you keep your receipt incase they call your number and you don't know what it is. They have inside seating, and outdoor seating. The kitchen is semi-open so the customer can look inside at the chefs making Amalfitano magic. Limited vegetarian options.

Not that good

By nikbminx |

I had been wanting to try this place because I read that several people stand by their lemon chicken. The atmosphere was very laid back and relaxed. We went on a Saturday during lunch. We ordered the lemon chicken at the counter and found a seat. We were served a salad first and it was okay. The vinaigrette had a strange and strong after taste. Our meal was served soon after. I was really excited to dig in but I was unfortunately not impressed. The lemon flavor overpowered the chicken. I was expecting a dynamic flavor of lemon, garlic, butter, parsley and a hint of something extra but I was actually disappointed. The potatoes it came with were also bland. The portion was pretty good but I only ate one piece. I packed the rest and hoped to spruce it up at home. I’d say that I would come back to try a different dish in hopes of finding a personal favorite.

Good Food, No Service (not bad service no service)

By 2Here4Fun |

The food is really good however it is half of a dining experience. Starting with the food; we ordered the Sorrento Lemon chicken which is as good as others have discussed and Pasta with Meatballs which was equally good. It is all homemade, fresh and tasty, dinners came with a light mixed green salad. I don’t understand comments on price as each dinner was $15 which is not bad for very good food in midtown Atlanta. The lack of ambiance, no service beyond your server bringing your food out after you have ordered it at the counter, seat yourself communal tables, not even salt and pepper on the tables all leaves me a bit empty. Given that the family size dinners are served to go only, it leads me to believe that the owner would rather you eat somewhere else. This would be a great place to cater a family event with. However on the upside, they do not collect a gratuity since there is no service to speak of which is fair. I rated service and atmosphere as average only because there is not intended to be any.

Canoli!!!

By MauricioBabilonia |

Great for a canoli and a coffee. I saw many people enjoying the ice cream, but we did not partake. The canoli is very good, particularly because they are difficult to find in the South. Great after eating a pizza at Antico.

Delish!

By Linda D |

I don't eat much meat so wasn't super psyched at this choice for dinner with friends but wow! Was I wrong . This place is great. You walk in and place your order at the counter. The menu is on boards on the wall behind. Everything is chicken and every meal (I think) comes with bread and a lovely light green salad with shaved Parmesan and vinaigrette dressing. 4 of us chose the chicken in b owls: one orange, one lemon, one with the sausage and grape tomatoes and one I cannot remember . The fifth got chicken Parmesan. The chicken bowls were all filled with about a 1/4 chicken, amazing broth and seasonings with lemons and onions or etc depending on your choice. Small selection of beer or wine and soft drinks. Finish your meal at the gelateria across the street---you cannot go wrong; but you will be stuffed. In retrospect we should have split the bowls but instead , all took home 1/2 of our meals.

Sorrento Lemon chicken is tasty

By Kelly D |

The food was good - ordered chicken and an additional salad. Chicken is large portion and includes a roasted potatoes and a salad. Service was wonderful. Staff was very helpful. Very casual so ideal for groups and children. Will return to try other items on the menu.

Good, but car broken into

By seabreeze300 |

Chicken was very good. White meat was a little dry and I was surprised. Atmosphere is not what I expected but not unpleasant. Unfortunately, parked in middle of Gio's private 30 (?) car parking lot in middle of day. Tons of people in and out of parking lot. When my lunch date was over..went to car and someone had tried to break into my car. Jammed the door lock and when that didn't work they tried too pry the handle off which left a huge dent on the door and now I need a new lock, most likely a new door panel and a service to get rid of the code alarm. Chicken was really good, pricey but definitely not worth this..

Gio's for Mio

By Keith B |

Gio’s is owned by the same folks who have neighboring and great Antico Pizza. Gio’s is almost as good for chicken as Antico is for Pizza. It just doesn’t have the same fun atmosphere as Antico. Like Antico, Gio’s has a simple menu. Each dinner is a half chicken and the couple of options we tried were both great. Dinners are accompanied by a very nice side salad and a good piece of toasted garlic bread. I didn’t really care for the chunk of potato, but that is just a personal preference. I would definitely go back for some more wonderful chicken.

Delicious chicken, very unique experience

By PetedeltD |

This was a very unique dining experience. For your first visit I recommend studying the menu online before you go in...it will help with your ordering process. The chicken has an amazing flavor, atmosphere and dining area are eclectic. I really enjoyed the meal, highly recommend a visit!

If You're Going to Eat Here, You Better Like Chicken

By urbanguy |

Our friends, residents of Atlanta, took us to what is probably their favorite area restaurant. This is a non-descript, i.e., pretty plain-looking, restaurant of several tables in a big room. You order at a counter (like a fast-food restaurant), pick up your own silverware, and seat yourself. The menu is not very extensive. It's pretty much chicken, chicken, and more chicken dishes. I should have followed our host's lead, as they ordered "Pollo Margherita" ($19), which all three of them enjoyed very much. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan, oops, the "Pollo al Forno Parmigiana" ($18). My chicken was excellent, but it came on a huge bed of spaghetti, colored "red," with a sauce of some kind that wouldn't win any awards anywhere. The Pollo Margherita did not come with any pasta. All of us took home some left-overs, as the portions of chicken are very generous. I should say that the entrees were all preceded by a salad that my wife called "awesome." Just several kinds of greens and an oil-based dressing.

Italians understand chicken!

By dbsouth |

Living in the South you expect no one can make chicken better than US! I grew up eating grandmother's chicken and dumplings and fried chicken. I was blown away by what people call "infused" with flavor. All the chicken dishes are incredible; my favorite the lemon! Go pick up a pizza next door at Antico's and you have the BEST of both worlds. Don't forget gelato in the back!!!

Best Chicken in Atlanta...Special Italian Place!!

By Jim2344 |

We have been to Gio's now on several different occasions and every time the food is wonderful! Whether you order chicken or pasta you won't be disappointed. But after the chicken my favorite item is the salad that comes with it which features one of the best Italian dressings I have ever had and I grew up on this stuff! Yes it's a casual place but the food is as good as you will enjoy in a fine restaurant. Although you may think it is expensive at first...the truth is you can split any entree and have plenty of food for two. This is definitely a place not to be missed in Atlanta!

True Italian style chicken and more

By Watkinsdts |

New place, have to admit I was skeptical but it was great. Food is savory, well prepared and delicious. All the entrees are roasted chicken with various sauces made from lemons, oranges and spices. The salad was amazing. I will return to try other items-- definitely worth it. Friendly staff, great concept.

Amazing food!

By Stacey M |

If you haven't been to Gio's Chicken Amalfitano, you are missing out. The chicken is excellent. My husband get's a spicy chicken dish, that I can't find on the web site menu currently, that is out of this world good! It's like diablo chicken or something like that. The salad is simple and delicious. I haven't had a single bad thing here. It's a rustic restaurant - you order at the counter and then find your own seat at family style tables. It is fun though. The order takers could be a little more helpful - but don't let that keep you from going because it is really great food.

one of my all time favorite!

By Adabelle B |

I am a big fan of antico pizza and I am so surprised I just discovered this place in 2013 and they are right next door. I just love the concept of both of these places. Being able to bring your drinks to the restaurant and just ordering your meals there. the menu is very small but so many great options. It is either chicken or pasta and always comes with a side salad. The service is very fast! Seating is family style tables. The portions are very generous and there is always enough leftovers to bring back home. Another plus, there is a gelato/dessert section at the back of the restaurant. The gelato reminds me perfectly of italy! Pay attention because this place is closed on mondays!

Delicious Food! Service was a bit bizarre.

By Melissa H |

Gio's Chicken offers a unique family style environment with delicious food. I ordered the SORRENTO LEMON Chicken and my husband ordered their version of spaghetti and meatballs (I can't remember the exact name of the dish). Both dishes were super tasty and full of authentic Italian flavors. The only reason I didn't give Gio's five stars is due to the bizarre service. First, at Gio's, you have to order from a front counter clerk, which is totally fine as it fits with the family environment. Our clerk was fine, but seemed a bit annoyed with the three questions we asked. Then I realized the clerk was probably sick as she started blowing her nose profusely as we decided what to order. I felt really bad for her, but at the same time, I thought she probably shouldn't have been at work (since she works around food). The food was brought out from the kitchen by a couple of different servers who were fine, but also just seemed annoyed or tired. Finally, a brief but loud verbal argument occurred in the kitchen between servers (which is open to the main part of the restaurant). My husband and I weren't really bothered by it (as we understand that disagreements occur), but it just added to the already bizarre experience. Nevertheless, we LOVED the food. We will still recommend Gio's Chicken to anyone.

Exceptional Food + Service

By Christie C |

We are huge fans of Antico’s Pizza + couldn’t wait to try this spot next door. Easy cozy casual dining with the some of the most delicious “Italian Comfort Food” chicken we have ever tasted. We tried the Sorrento Lemon chicken - which came with salad + bread. So Delicious. The people who worked there were equally exceptional - the hostess made excellent recommendations on the menu and the young man in the kitchen took time to box up our leftovers with some extra salad and bread to enjoy tomorrow!!

Pretty good food but not worth the price

By TimBeaver99 |

This is a fairly spartan establishment where you order at a counter and seat yourself. The food we had was pretty good Italian, but the prices are high enough that you'd expect either extra special food or a more refined service and dining experience. Pasta and sauce were fine but not extra-specially notable. Chicken was pretty good but not appreciably better than what you can get elsewhere for less with more service. It's hard to justify the price when the food itself must only cost so much and the staffing and facilities cost must be so low. If the experience was better or the price lower, this would make 4 out of 5 for me.

Italy in Atlanta

By James W |

Gio (who owns Gio's and Antica Nepolitano ) has brought a wonderful sense of Italy to Hemphill Avenue in Atlanta. Gio's has an incredible menu of chicken dishes as well as pasta. All I can say is it's probably the best buy in Atlanta. Don't worry about waiting in line, it's part of the experience. Just get a Peroni or a bottle of wine and relax. The whole affair is scrumptious. And don't forget the gelatos and desserts. Or go next door for a fabulous pizza. And take the leftovers...there are plenty of those.

Tasty Chicken

By Richard4188 |

This Italian restaurant is all about chicken and chicken dominates the menu. I had the Diavola chicken, which is a little spicy. Comes with a simple but good salad, baked chicken in a spicy broth and garlic bread. The chicken was very tender, moist and tasty. Coca-Cola is served in the aluminum bottle. The restaurant is not fancy, but the food is good.

Tasty dishes, limited beverage shoices, great gelato

By Jan_from_Atlanta |

The Antico Pizza folks opened the Gio's restaurant right next door, and have now added a limited menu café with gelato. All of these options are in the same immediate area. The entrees at Gios run about $15 (give or take a bit) and come with a nice basic salad. We had the lemon chicken as well as spaghetti with meat balls (the portion size on the latter was huge). The salad and entrees were very good. The drink selections are limited to canned and bottle beverages in a cooler, Peroni on draft, and bottles of wine. After dinner, we had some gelato at Caffe Gio where two scoops are $6 and there is a limited pastry selection ($7). Free parking in their lot or on the street. Gio's is open Sunday (Antico is not). At all of these are no reservations, order at the counter, get a number, they bring the food. No frills, no tablecloths, rolls of brown paper towels instead of napkins; you're in and out pretty quickly. Great place for all ages.

Didn’t meet expectations

By Lady_Mrsc |

Did not meet expectations. Went with a group of 7 and 2 of us did not like our food. One of us ordered spaghetti and meatballs and said the meatball was too salty and not good at all. I ordered the chicken amalfi and the chicken was flavorless. I tried to exchange my food after the second bite and the restaurant said we would have to buy another entree, no exchanges. The menu is hard to understand since a lot of the words and names of items are in Italian with no translation and there are really only a handful of options to choose from. Not worth it at all.

Great chicken and Steak!

By James T |

Great chicken and steak, responsibility priced. This is a causal, communal seating restaurant. The lemon chicken was awesome, the salad had a great dressing. Gio definitely has the start of a little italy in Atlanta. I'm hooked and definitely will be back soon!!!

A Taste of Italy in the Deep South!

By Curt H |

We were looking for the pizza next door (Antico's) but they were closed. Good omen for us, as we entered Gio's instead. Non-descript and laid back atmosphere, you see all kinds of dress here. Jeans to nicely decked folks. Family style seating where you can meet some fun folks or eat by yourself. Great baked chicken! No, strike that..... The best baked chicken ever eaten, as it had an interesting, tasty lemon infusion that absolutely reminded us of Italian cooking. Basil, lemon.......basically a broth, that after the chicken was gone, we picked up the bowl to drink! You have a choice: Arancia (orange) with rosemary or Limone with basil. Both great, but the lemon is a MUST! Enjoy with a bottle of house Montepulciano D'Abruzzo vino!!

Excellent Casual Italian Chicken & Pizza

By Cmara32 |

Gio's is an excellent casual spot for family and friend gatherings. Roasted chicken options include lemon, orange, and a not-too-spicy Diablo...to-die-for!! As a sister restaurant to Antico Pizza, you can enjoy the best of both at this cosy little spot. Food is fast and fresh and the cocktails delightful!

Great Food if you don't mind the attitude

By CarolyninAtlanta |

First, the food is as delicious as the reviews you read. We have also been to the pizza restaurant next door owned by the same people. Every time we have visited, we have encountered rude service at the counter. They get away with this because the food really is good, but it does get very old. This time, we went to the bar across the side street from the restaurant and ordered our chicken to go. At the bar, we had a very sweet server from Colombia, S. America. He was extremely helpful, brought us plates and cutlery from the bar and we sat outside to have our delicious Chicken Sorrento. He is the first and only nice person we have every encountered in this little Italian enclave in Home Park. We ordered a family size portion of chicken and it was enough for 3 people plus the three of us had it at home one more time as leftovers. We also ordered two pasta dishes to try and they were great also. They gave us a hard time about including enough salad for 4 with the family portion. They only wanted to give enough for two people which is odd for a "family" portion. The prices for simple drinks like sodas are outrageous so we felt gouged on that. We didn't mind paying a fairly high price for the well-prepared food, so not sure why they think it is good business to gouge on the little things. If the food were a little less quality, it would be hard to justify going back, but the food is that good and the outdoor area is pleasant enough to make the atrocious attitude bearable - but owners beware - it's a close call.

A Bit of Amafli Coast in Landlocked Atlanta

By KimberlyD |

You will feel like you are having a delicious meal on the Amalfi Coast when you dine here (or his sister restaurant Antico Pizza). Casual atmosphere. Delicious and authentic amalfitano chicken. Feels a little pricey, but quantities are big enough to share. Mangia!

I don't know what they put in it, but it's damn good.

By chutrain |

This is some of the best 'roasted' chicken you'll ever have. There's something so good about the delicious chicken, the flavorful brother, and the simple roasted potatoes that slowly steep in the broth.

Truly wonderful

By Michael B |

A very understated place with family style picnic-like tables and concrete walls. You order at the front counter. Doesn't seem like much. You order right off the menu, no changes, but the menu sounds great, so that's OK. Then the food is brought to the table. Wow. Everything from the salad to the pasta to the chicken is top notch. We had pasta arabiatta and orange Rosemary chicken. Loved it all. Very reasonably priced. Can't wait to return.

Caffe Gio perfect stop after Antico pizza

By Elise_NC |

Sorry, I know I should try their lunch. But we had gelato and coffee after lunch. I don't drink coffee, but Lavazza is worth it. I loved my little experience down here today.

Authentic taste of Italy in Atlanta

This place is the real deal. It's funky and casual but very cool. Get there early to beat the crowd and find a place to sit. They don't take reservations and it's crowded. Most of the tables are large picnic style so make some friends and enjoy a good meal. Also think about splitting up and get someone in your group to wait for a pizza and bring it over. They know chicken and make it really well. The lemon chicken is outstanding and came with a salad (which was simple but also excellent), roasted potato and bread (for dipping). I would pay extra for a vegetable too but didn't see that option. I can't wait to go back and try another chicken dish or pasta too. It also would be nice if you could order "family style" size to eat in too vs. only the individual size entree.

Great chicken - large portions

By spbutterworth |

Visited Gio's this afternoon for lunch and wasn't disappointed. The lemon chicken was pretty much amazing, infused with flavour and served with potatoes and bread. This restaurant is co-located with Antico Pizza Napoletana and Gio's, the latter where you can get some excellent gelato and espresso.

Italian chicken restaurant from the owners of Antico

By DaninAtlanta |

We got takeout and split the Scarpiello chicken and Diavola pasta between the 2 of us. One meat and one side was more than enought to split for 2. The chicken was very tender and travelled well. Sometimes baked chicken doesn't work out well for takeout in my experience, but this was very tasty. The pasta was spicy and went very well with the chicken. We will be going back soon to try other dishes.

Great food/fun spot

We fell in love with Antico pizza and then Gio's opened! Now you can bring pizza from next door as your appetizer to eat with this fresh light salad, before you eat this amazing succulent chicken. Now after dinner walk across the street and have drinks. Giovanni has built his own little Italy and it is FABULOUS !

Not much has changed...

The chicken is very good - you get a half and it's plenty. But... so much garlic! I reeked for 2 days! The orange is quite tasty otherwise. Panini was heavy on the bread - although the meatballs were also quite good. It isn't inexpensive - but you get a lot to eat. Now, they give you silverware and a cloth napkin - much nicer than before.

Great place for friends and great food!

Met a group of friends for a farewell party. I agree with comments on parking, it was a challenge getting a spot but we did down the street. Once I figured out ordering at the counter, got the chicken parm and a Peroni ( only beer choice that I saw ). I was brought a nice salad to start and the chicken parm ( Pollo al Forno Parmigiana ) was excellent, the pasta was cooked very well and the sauce was tasty. Our group had a great time and I will return and try some other menu items.

A fun, funky, not expensive place

By Liketotravel30 |

Almost all chicken - multiple versions - some with lemon, some with blood oranges. some parmigiana etc. Sit mostly family style. Tends to be noisy because it is so popular between 6:30 and 8 so now I try to go before or after.

Kuul sit down joint

This place has good food, great atmosphere with an industrial look. My meal (the lemon chicken)came with half chicken. Lots of parking and good customer service. FYI, it's a little pricey but if leave in this neighborhood, you are good lol. It's my weekly joint!

WOW!

I'm already obsessing about this meal and I just ate there yesterday. The salad was simple, but fresh and delicious. The crusty bread was awesome. Oh yeah...the roast chicken and potatoes were spectacular. I had the Diavolo. It was quite spicy but so good. The only think keeping this from being a 5 star review...it is not cheap. Two meals and two sodas were $40 plus before tip. I'll still be back many times regardless.

Loved this homely Italian restaurant! Great food! Great value, didn't have to brake the piggy bank...

Good choice for italian in Atlanta. We choose it by looking at the reviews but it was not until we Actually entered and saw it we decided to stay. Not a huge menu but enough; everything was delicious! The owner came out to welcome us and explain his food and how to order..! You must try the Pollo Sorrento lemon.! If I think about it makes my mouth water... After a great dinner we tried the gelato.. Just perfect because it wasn't that sweet! Like it better that the one Inhad in Rome. Perfect balance after a good dinner. This is a restaurant you order your food and then they'll bring it to you. Downside...You need to pay to get anything else you'll need. Salad is included in your meal and was served super fast! It brought us to Italy.. Never been in the amalfitana coast but northern Italy and it was just great Italian food!

Fabulous!

Lemon Chicken....

By jgwisdom |

This has been on our list for a while, and we finally made it. This is a very busy and popular place. Couple things for the first timers: parking situation is tight and a struggle, but worth it. Then once you get inside the door, send someone looking for a place for you (and your party) to sit, because it is first come, first serve for seats at any table. Next go to the counter to order, and keep your receipt with the number on it, and listen for that number to be called out and signal the runners to bring it to you. We all had lemon chicken and it was awesome! We saved room for Gelato too, and it was awesome. Again for first timers, the dessert counter is in the back, you go to the counter with the cash register and pay for your order, then slide over to the counter where the Gelato is showcased, and tell them what flavor you want. Different kind of place with excellent food. Put it on your list of places to try. Note: No lemon chicken for lunch on Tues-Friday (closed Monday).

Dinner Friday Night with Friends

By Beautiful85 |

My wife and I meet up with some friends for dinner on a Friday night. Both our friends have not been to Gio's before and we all enjoyed our dinner choices. Gio's Lemon Chicken is the best, a nice Chicken-Lemon Broth, halve a chicken, Rosemary and Grilled Bread to soak up this amazing broth. You can bring your own adult beverage. We were the last ones to leave and we all had great time sitting outside.

Perfect for families

I went here with my family and in-laws with an idea in mind of what this place was and was pleasantly surprised! The food is served family style and the chicken was ridiculously amazing!!

Good Lemon Chicken

By Thrushforce |

Got food to go on the advice of a friend. Lemon Chicken and Chix Parm were both pretty good, but I suppose very good if there is a dearth of good Italian food. Definitely would try again.

Should Have Ordered a Chicken Dish.

By StockholmKindaGuy |

Gio's Chicken Amalfitano is a casual Italian eatery with counter service. The interior reminded me of eating in someones basement. It felt unfinished and thrown up in a hurry. No much in the way of atmosphere here. Considering this was a casual place, the lunch prices took me by surprise. Most items were priced between $14 - $20. The least expensive item and the one I had, was the Genovese panini at $11 which came with a salad. The salad was bathed in too much dressing and the panini just average. It took a while for the food to arrive. Too long for a lunch hour. As the name might suggest, many of the menu items feature chicken. A chicken Margherita pizza and chicken parmigiana are a few examples. Gio's Chicken Amalfitano has it's own parking. A limited selection of beer and wine are served.

Superior food!

My husband and I split the lemon chicken with extra salad and garlic bread. Dipped chicken and bread in sauce. DELISH. We then went across the street for gelato and cafe americano. Everything was so good, we wanted more but were too full. We'll go back.

highly recommended but a disappointment

By Miamigirl48 |

We ordered the lemon chicken to go, and the taste was great. However, the portions were not as we'd been led to believe--four smallish pieces of chicken, one of which was a breast cut in half; two slim potato wedges, a 4" piece of garlic bread, and small salad with lettuce only. Price was high for what tasted like rotisserie chicken with small sides.

Delizioso e Abbondanza!

By GPBurdell67 |

Gio has done it again -- brought really authentic Neapolitan food to Atlanta. We had the Chicken Amalfi and the Maccheroni al Forno for the two of us. You order out front at a walkup counter (staffed by a young woman who looks exactly like actress Mila Kunis). Salads arrive quickly -- beautifully flavored light dressing and crisp greens. The entrees arrived in another ten minutes with really good bread. The chicken was terrific, even though I am not a bone-in chicken guy. The "gravy" really makes the dish -- so flavorful. The pasta was like lasagna with the marinara sauce the real star. We could only finish about a third of each dish, so our take-home boxes fed us for another three meals. On the way out, we stopped for a cannoli. Sweet. Final note: bring your own wine. There is no charge.

This place is so consistently terrific. Been here 25+ times since they opened... And now living in B'HAM for last few years, I hit Gios almost every time in town. DiaVola & the Lemon Sorrento are easily our favorites; as is the Pollo Margherita . So very good, so very consistent!

A dinner I'd like to forget.

By StockholmKindaGuy |

First I'd like to tell the owners of this establishment to do a better job of identifying what the various dishes are, because what their currently using wasn't much help and neither was the person working the counter. Yes, you order at the counter and the food is brought out to you. I ordered one of the pasta dishes and was unimpressed, especially considering the price. While the portion was large and came with a salad, it wasn't very appealing. Even the dining space wasn't particularly appealing. I've given Gio's two tries. There won't be a third. Lacks the service to go with the prices.

Great concept!

By dotters |

The restaurant is really new! Right next to Antico's (same owners), this restaurant features several types of chicken and a few pasta dishes. For $13 (or more), you get a 1/2 chicken with large wedge potatoes, Foccaccio bread and and a salad (which was very tasty with real parm cheese). We shared a lemon chicken and orange-style chicken (which for 3 people was plenty) Or, you can just bring home leftovers! Huge potions! The place is similar to Antico's - large tables to share. This was a bit nicer, with plastic tablecloths. They had Italian songs and opera in the background. Will we go back? Definitely! You'll want to try the different flavors and the pasta! You can also get the food take out.

Peroni on tap, delicious chicken, cheap, and not too busy on Sat night...,

By Viknd |

What is not to love at Gio's? One of the "go-to" restaurants in Atlanta for great fresh and delicious food, ease of getting in and out, at a price point that is down right cheap. Yes BYOB but also cold Peroni on tap in big glasses. For dessert go across the street for the best gelato in Atlanta. Only negative is parking can be tough.

WOW, what a great place.

By Leeman7957 |

It is easy to see that the people who run this restaurant take care and pride in the food they serve. Two dishes where tried, the famous lemon chicken and chicken cacciatore. Both absolutely excellent dishes. The portion sizes are quite large and the salad has an amazing home made dressing that is to die for. The place gets packed quick so go early. Bring a date, it will surely impress them.

Great Chicken, Great Food

By Dink C |

Please note that this place is for dinner time only and dinner starts at 5pm Tuesday - Sunday, they are closed on Mondays. I hate that but it works for the owner and employees. Also try the best pizza that is not so doughy and heavy, it is pizza dough flown in from Sicily everyday. Its Magnificence is above the rest, Trust Me!

Different Dinner Experience

By Aaron |

I ate here with my wife on a weeknight and we are big fans of Antico so we had nice expectations for this. I didn't know going into it that it was going to be the same vibe as Antico where you order first then sit down among others. So it provided a different experience but was fun nonetheless. We had the lemon chicken that everyone raves about on here as well as the al forno. We were fans of both of them. Menu is a little hard to understand but they will help you at the front. Food was very good and enough to split. The salad that comes with it is also a nice treat. Is a bit on the pricey side but totally worth the food you get. Service was extremely quick. I would go back.

Sunday Italian Chicken supper

By Carl M |

Half of chicken in a big bowl with roasted potatoes, broth, and bread for sopping up the juices, yum! We paired our meal with a pasta and a salad was included. This is a simple place with a cool little atmosphere and affordable, delicious food. Worth a visit or a meal to-go. Wine is available to purchase, plenty of parking, and not far from the freeway.

Just plain great food

By Timothy F |

The food is fantastic. The line wait got a bit long I was there almost 40 minutes but this stuff is cooked to order and the flavors were amazingly delicious. Just do not come expecting to get food quickly.

Excellent, But Not Tops

By ATL_Jacket |

My aunt and uncle took me to Gio's as a "welcome to Atlanta" present. While the food was good and the portions were generous, there was nothing magical about the meal. My hosts told me that the chicken was much drier and tougher than they were used to from Gio's. My experience was still pretty good. The chicken was wonderfully seasoned and the salad was tasty, but the lack of consistency leaves me worried. I'll be back and may update my review.
