Awesome Spot

By jamieac78 |

Seems that every food place closes early around this area of Philadelphia except this place. We went because it was the only place open, but we were very pleased that this happened. Food was great and we got to enjoy a couple of drinks at the bar while we waited for our food to get prepared. Highly, highly recommend Giovani’s to anyone looking for good food any time of day.

2 nights in a row

By Lynnewithne |

Short family trip to Philly and we ran across this gem on Trip Advisor. Growing up in NJ but living in FL, we were ready for some typical local food. We oinked out on cheese steaks, pizza, garlic knots, etc. They have some great vegetarian dishes on the back of the menu and we also had a combo plate with eggplant, falafel, hummus, pita, etc. I really enjoyed it. You can tell this is a local hangout. Typical noisy sports bar with good food. Everything was served hot. There was a snafu with some of our meals coming out after everyone was finished. They offered to adjust the bill without us asking.

That place for a drink

Degrading Approach By A Server And No Response of Acknowledgement From Management

By Returned Visitor |

Up until last week I will NEVER patronize this place again and I have been coming here for years (I've even given a good review for this place previously on behalf of the food)....I stopped in after doing some light shopping, ordered a quick drink and sat at a table parallel to the bar. One of the guys working at and outside of the bar was also working tables, so he took my drink order, brought it to me and just before I was done I paid my tab with him. There was a server (thick caucasian girl with a jacket tied around her stomach) who had walked past me a million times serving food and drinks to others, not once interacting with me which was okay because I wasn't her customer although she had waited on me on previous occasions. so she had seen me several times before. As I got ready to leave, another lady came up to me asking me was I leaving, so I said yes and proceeded to let her have the table I was sitting at and the next thing I know the the server with the jacket around her stomach who never said one word to me prior stopped and said to me "that'll be $5.50!?!?"....Mind you I had already paid my tab with the guy that served me, so I HAD ALREADY PAID....After I told her that I already paid she briskly walked away. no apology or anything.....I was dumbfounded!!! - A. Because she has seen me on numerous occasions at the establishment B. She never said one word to me the whole time that I was there, so for her to suddenly come ask me to pay my bill was unacceptable ESPECIALLY when I had already paid the person that served me.. I wrote in to management about my experience and to this day haven't received not one apology OR any kind of response at all. Why am I sharing, because this was rude and degrading. How dare her not at least ask the person who waited on me 1st if I paid or not before just assuming I was trying to leave without paying.....It was also embarrassing because she did it right in front of the lady who I was giving my seat to....NO MORE Giovani's for me, I hate prejudice places and to think I had been patronizing these people for years and they can't and won't give a simple response to how their employees treat their customers

Vibes Not Great

By TommyBoy94 |

It all started when the bartender correctly, but curtly told a patron he couldn't eat a biscuit he brought in there, "because you can't bring food into a restaurant." Fair enough, but the chilliness continued throughout. Good big screen TV's and Cheesesteak looked big enough for two meals and the pizza looked OK. With so many options for bars in Philly, I think there are better choices.

Good pizza and great staff

By Bride2207 |

Pizza and other food at the front and a bar at the back. Busy on a Thursday night which is a good sign. Good pizza, a massive slice. Nice friendly staff.

Welcomed

Nice takeout/delivery

We ordered delivery to our hotel and it came reasonably quick and HOT. The pasta dishes were both good. Definitely recommend for a quick and yummy dinner!

Best Hidden Gem for Italian as well as Vegan

By Auntie L |

This lively Philadelphia bar & restaurant has surprisingly excellent food! As is usual for an Italian restaurant there were pages of pizzas, subs, and pasta on the menu. I loved the full vegetarian offerings and halal choices too! As soon as you enter, you’re greeted with a long 20 foot glass counter lined up with every imaginable pizza your heart desires. If you’re hungry, you’ll stop mid-step to gaze longingly at every pizza pie as you walk down the length of the pizza display to reach the hostess counter at the end. Our first instinct was to order a slice and the cheese was gooey & crust was thin and perfect. We arrived just in time for happy hour and drinks were $2 off. For an app we asked for truffle fries and were treated to delicious hot crispy seasoned fries....for $5, it’s got to be the best value/item on the menu. Definitely get these with a beer or Prosecco and you’re set. Falafel was crusty and hummus was creamy. The calzone meats entree was made fresh-a bit of a wait, but I’m told well worth it. We’re definitely coming back when visiting Philadelphia! I would have given 5 stars but the wooden 2 seater tables with wood chairs were a bit uncomfortable and our dishes barely fit on the tabletop. Very welcoming and friendly servers made our visit a wonderful date night.

Great staff and prices!

By Alyson S |

Pizza and food was great. The size of the pizza was HUGE! Prices were good, not high at all. Beers were $4 which I feel is appropriate. Our bar tender was great. Made small talk and was very attentive to all people at the bar.

Deliciosa surpresa na Filadélfia

By Mary_Dan14 |

Giovani's Bar and Grill was a greatfull surpresid. Delicius freash food, especially in a cold night. Order for Eggplant Parmigiana Pasta, Mushroom Cheese Steak (Philli's specialty) and a Chicken noodle's soup (simply the best I've ever eaten)...

Went out to celebrate someone's 21st and this was our second stop. Bartender was great. Shots were great. I'll have to go back another day to try the food.

Huge portions and great prices!

By Nikki S |

The portions were huge. The food was flavorful! The chicken Parmesan, ziti, calzone and spaghetti and meatballs were all great choices! Highly recommend.

Gute Pizza toGo

By Olligo25 |

We wanted some more food but already everything outside closed. Also officially here, but if we just want pizza to go make us these quick. Very cool selection, few topping combinations that you don't see so often. We took 3 pizzas of 6t. We didn't know how big these were and from the price that sounded conclusive. But were so well occupied and large that that is definitely enough. But top price! Certainly also good on site to eat.

Good Pizza

By Sean Bryan |

My brother lives right by the Comcast tower. Before we went to the flyers game we needed to stop and grab a quick bite to eat. We stopped at Giovanis in Chestnut and ordered a pie of pizza and drinks. Overall it was a good pizza, little greasy but not too greasy. Service was very fast. They had a huge selection of delicious pizza that you can by per slice that all looked delicious as well. In addition to the food they have a nice bar in the back as well.

Excellent!

By justinkinsella |

Just happened to find this on Google. Looks like just a pizza takeaway from the outside, but if you venture through past the counter there is a great sports bar at the back with seating for eating and drinking. A great selection of beers and WOW their home-made pizzas are fantastic! Just had a couple of slices of pizza with fries but it was so good we went back again the next day. The bartender was great and she recognised us when we went back the next day and said hello (as well as the owner / manager). Great place for a beer and authentic home-made pizza.

Understated Gem in the heart of Philly

By Jim M |

Born, bred Philly now living in another city. I come home for the Holidays and sometimes to sneak in for a weekend without my relatives knowing. My play is the Club Quarters as it's perfectly located, inexpensive, but clean, and simply works for me and head to Giovani's for a drink and stabilize. Solid bartenders with philly personality which means straight up, genuine, extremely hospitable unless you act like an ass which brings the other philly out of them and they handle you appropriately. Giovani's food quality needs to be talked about more as it's so darn solid. The Chicken Parm sammy has to ranked up there with one of the best I've ever had. There are better cheesesteak places in the city as G's has a large menu it utilizes for business, but it's solid enough that I recommended to a few airline pilots who were staying in CQ as well and were looking for a quickie philly. Killer stromboli. Need to explore menu more next time as everything I had including a slice were extremely good. Great bar staff. Good uplifting atmosphere. My go to when I arrive before I head to my neighborhood and see the fam.

Pizza and a Nice Bar

By 3ljp |

We were walking around the neighborhood this past weekend and stopped in for a beer. It's a nice place with a full bar, some tables and several TV's. They primarily serve pizza but also have a few other items like salads, calzones, Stromboli, wraps etc... The bartender was a very nice guy, the place was very clean and the prices are fair. We'll be stopping back for pizza and drafts.

Very busy, popular place. Very underrated. Our group totally liked all of their dishes including the pizza. Staff was awesome and service was fast.

Comfortable setting

By HerrP |

Stopped here on a Saturday afternoon. Pizza looked and smelled good, bartender was friendly, and beer was cold. Had a Leinenkugel draft. Hit the spot. Drop in for a cold one if you're thirsty. Just be sure you're ready to pay $7 for a beer.

Awesome Spot In Philly

By Mobile826780 |

This little bar was very welcoming. They have a great selection of food and drink! Most of all it was a fun place to chill out and unwind. The staff was 10/10 Anthony, Chelsea, and Stephen were amazing and had great recommendations for things to do around the city. I highly recommend Giovani’s to anyone in the area.

good food but...

By PerfectStranger_12 |

This is a reasonably priced local place convenient to grub a take out or eat a lunch especially during the week. I never had any problems with their food or service until I tried buying their gift card. To my surprise I was charged Philly sales tax on my purchase. Considering that I will be charged Philly sales again when I actually use this card for paying for my food, that means that I will be double taxed and that is completely ILLEGAL! When I tried to explain it to a register person, she said that she was taught to do this. After my polite refusal to pay she called her superior and then gave me the tax portion back adding that she was told to give it back to me just to make me happy. Well, this is not what I want to hear when I know that I just caught their obvious mistake. The owners of this place should teach their employees not to charge tax on the gift cards in the first place and to avoid a hassle of refunding them cash!

New favourite but feels like family, Philly at its best

By CatlondonUS |

Delicious food, great atmosphere, superb staff. Everything to love about this unassuming little place, not far from City Hall. Clearly loved by locals, these visitors from the U.K. stumbled upon a secret treasure. Delicious pizzeria style slices and a Stromboli were a revelation for a Brit on the first trip to Philly. Staff treat you like family and when we stopped back four hours later for a couple drinks, we were remembered and welcomed back. Great prices to boot and happy hour from 5-7 on weekdays, this Philly favourite will be on our must visit every trip from now on.

Excellent!

Nice Sports Bar and grill with real pizzeria

By ralph r |

Good selection of Beers to go along with an extensive menu. The calzone I had was huge and I took half home. Decent prices. Good value. About 6 TV's to catch the sports.

Excellent food!

By rrcamp78 |

Very pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff. All of the food offerings we tried were amazing! Very busy and late at night, but we did not have to wait long at all for our food. We will definitely return and try some other offerings. The pizzas on display looked delicious!

Great place for an inexpensive meal and drinks.

By Mlghetto911 |

My wife and I had dinner here. They have a huge menu that is very reasonably priced. We had a salad and a few different slices of pizza made to order. The staff was exceptional.

pop in and pop out

By phillyborn114 |

the music was so loud it drew us in on a friday night...the front of the place sells pizza and in the back is a bar and tables...in between these two sections stands the dj and his equipment...giant televisions showing sports games complete the scene...the dj had some good music and was quick to mix..the speed of the sound was amped way up and when the bartender mixed a red bull for the dj i understood why...young crowd coming and going...in and out...good place to watch the game..and check out the music...bartenders were very friendly and efficient....dancing would add a point to the place...

Nice Atmosphere, Great Service, Yummy Food

By Georgesec |

I stopped here for dinner while I was teaching in Philadelphia. The atmosphere is a great bar and community type of place where folks talked with each other. The service was great, folks were helpful. The food, pizza to be specific, was great. The crust was crisp, the ingredients fresh and the flavor yummy!

Philadelphia with salad, hamburger...love and fantasy.

By Massimo G |

I'm in Philadelphia for the special convention of Jehovah's Witnesses. I walked in by accident two days ago. Sto continuando a venire la sera! Super salads... in one they eat in two. Ceesesteak giant portions. Great burgers and chips. Usually in two 20/25 euros (Italian change by credit card) the staff very nice!

It was okay/typical

By JVWNYC89 |

I got delivery from Giovanis while visiting PHL on September 9th. I got a Caesar salad (nice/fresh/generous portion with real crotons), garlic knots (good), and a slice of BBQ Chicken pizza. Everything was good but I don’t think I’d go out of my way to get something from there again. Again it was delivery so that could have been it. However while the garlic knots were warm and fresh tasting, the slice of pizza was not of the same quality. I have to give them credit on the pizza though because they were very generous with the chicken pieces on the slice I had.

Top of the list easy food

By Jamie G |

Got into Philadelphia a little late this evening a little after 9pm. It seemed a lot of restaurants had already closed for the evening. We walked up to Giovani’s which had a baseball game & a crowd around the bar area. They were still cooking and serving pizza, wings and all the accessories. We ordered a Philly Cheesesteak, which was amazing! The atmosphere was fun, the service ice was great! This Bar & Grill comes highly recommend if you are visiting this area. Tracy & Jamie G

Giovani’s was the best

By DCMRDH1979 |

Fun neighborhood pub. Excellent food. Our server last night and tonight was Candace. She took us under her wing. We enjoyed her customer service. Italian pizza, Stromboli, and if course cheese steak sandwiches. Highly recommend for a local flair.

Finally authentic Philly food!!

By ATLTravelDiva |

The customer service was good and the food was really good! I ordered a slice of pizza and a Philly cheesesteak with fries. All was so good. Food was not expensive at all. The Philly was big and not one of those small hoagies. They do NOT use cheese whiz/sauce!! You must visit if you go to Philly

Great lunch

By LBW |

Had great pizza and Bartender Ana was most accommodating. I had a tasty Philadelphia yard lager pale ale . She took great care of us as we sat at the bar. We watched tv . Pizza was delicious.

Fresh, delicious food - and so many choices!

By Laura Y |

I've been here dozens of times - for work, with friends and family and for takeout. The food is always fresh and delicious. I've never seen a menu with more choices. Check out their juicy burgers, great pizza with just-right crust, falafel and hummus Mediterranean menu and so many vegetarian options and protein-packed salads. Lunch is awesome but so are dinner and drinks. It's the first place I take anyone to in Center City. Go. You will be happy you did.

Relax

Decent cheesesteak, nice craftbeer selection

Little out of the way small place with a mediterrean influenced menu but good cheese steak and pizza. the bartender gave me some good advice on trying some of the local beers.

Yummy pizza

By Karissa J |

We tried literally three different slices of pizza, the garlic twists and the cajon fries. The supreme was delicious, the vodka ravioli was awesome, and the margarita was soggy and not our favorite. The fries had amazing flavor but were a tad too soggy. The garlic twists were anti climactic. Worth trying just make sure you order the right thing. Good service. We were bummed because they were out of pesto and we wanted to try the chicken pesto as well.
