GIOVANNI'S Restaurant: It's #1

By OLGA M |

GIOVANNI’S: Excellent restaurant that I love for its exquisite dishes created in its first order cuisine and for the cozy family atmosphere, very pleasant to the eye and the senses. All of the above and much more, is thanks to the kindness, dedication and care (always with a smile) of all your team! I really enjoy every visit and every dish a unique experience! Thank you very much to everyone and especially to Mr. Pedro and Don Giovanni. GIOVANNI'S RESTAURANT: It is the best and also my favorite 👍🍴♥️

Great for groups

By Jorge M |

We celebrated my mother in law's 90th birthday. We were a group of thirty and were placed in an open area for groups. The service was excellent and the menu choices were great. They have several full course choices available. We went with the steak, caneloni and fish selections. It also included appetizers and beverages including coffee. Ask the plates were great. Everyone had a great time and the staff was constantly on top of things If you have a group of up to thirty and would like a really nice place to celebrate this is a great choice. The fact that it's located in Westchester makes it even better. Enjoy

Great Surprise!

By Miguel M |

Great place. The owner was present and very hospitable. Staff were friendly. The food, surprisingly good! The chef's special pasta featured strawberries - a nice touch! The owner claimed the best tiramisu in miami, sure enough, a competitor! I'll be coming back!

Birthday dinner

By Roz A |

We went for my sister in law birthday. I had the special shrimp in pesto sauce. The shrimp were hugh. Penne in pesto sauce was very tasty. A little pricey but the food was worth it

Giovanni in Doral; go

By rokkap |

After a troublesome day, driving back to our hotel, we spotted the sign Giovanni. Looked promising, so... Giovanni proved an Italian and Argentinian mix. Happy and friendly service, tasteful food and tasty malbec wine. We were happy.

So sad..

By Asli |

I’m so sad to see Versace’s place like this... it is a rubbish restaurant and people waiting at the door and they don’t accept you if you don’t have a reservation.. they were so rude and don’t allow you to look in.. I just wanted to send a letter to Donatello Versace and to say the family allow to ruin Versace’s place like this? Did they need money from this house that keep all the Versace’s memory.. I’m so sad to see that house is ruined like this, not only as a place, they ruined all his memory by using this place as a restaurant and hotel... it should have been a museum... poor Donatello and Versace family...

Italian a la Miami

By Cenadorvitalicio |

This locationused use to be an Argentinian restaurant (La Portena) with an Italian touch, now it is an Italian restaurant with an Argentinian an tropical touch. It's menu is quite a show going from typical Italian dishes, the best choices, to Argentina style beef good and above average but in Miami that's not hard to find. The atmosphere is confortable upscale without been stuffy, there is live piano music or guitar on the week ends in the evening that makes it quite enjoyable. Eggplant rollatini, calamari, garlic shrimp are some of the appetizer, all, outstanding and enough for two and the main entrees are also very generous portions specially the lasagna not to be missed. Ossobuco should be the star of the menu for those of us who enjoy it. Prices are reasonable to moderately high but taking into consideration the quality of the ingredients, preparation, presentation and service, it has to be rated and a bargain for the money. Good choice of wines, desserts are the only one thing where I can see improvement but they are ok. Not easy to find since it is on the interior drive of the shopping center and can not be seen when you enter the center but worth the small effort First time I went to the new version of this restaurant was last February and have been a regular ever since in a weekly basis

Best of the area

By gteran76 |

IMO this is the best restaurant of the area, I have searched 8th St. all the way from 122nd Ave to 67th Ave and nothing gets close. Today it was my second time here; the server was super professional and friendly. The place is clean, good (smooth) music, and reasonable prices with a few good wines from Spain, Italy, Argentina and Napa (USA). We had Grille Chicken with vegetables and all tasted great. Next time we are going to drink and enjoy more the place...

Excellent

By John B |

Hidden gem located in the back of the strip mall but super well worth it. This is my 4th time and the food quality and preparation is of a five star restaurant. The service, most impressive ! The pricing very reasonable including the wine selection. I was very impressed with the friendliness of the staff and owner Giovanni as well . Keep it up

Friends and Fun

By raymtrips |

We had a spectacular time at Giovanni's. The food was great! I had Oso Bucco stuffed Ravioli and it was excellent! The live music (old nostalgic Cuba) added to the ambience. We highly recommend this place and we will definitely return. P.s. the Sangria was excellent!

Terrific Italian & Argentinian Flavor

By ray raposo |

A group of 8 friends went for dinner recently during the week. We were only the second group to be seated, but soon all the tables were full. A large variety of dishes to choose from and we all ordered different meals. All I can say is that everyone enjoyed their dishes, starting with the house salad or the delicious soup. The chicken dishes, the shrimp and the fish dishes were perfect. The guava flan was delightful. The prices were so very reasonable, almost every dish under $20.00. They also had some live entertainment, a guitarist and a singer. Sit near the back if you rather talk than sing along. It's a bit hidden in this shopping center, so Google map it before you go so you don't miss it!

Pre cruise dinner

Amazing Italian Restaurant in Miami

By Beatriz S |

We were staying at Trump Doral and wanted a true Italian meal, looked around the area and found Giovanni’s and couldn’t have been any luckier, since the moment I called to make a reservation the most friendly staff welcomed us into this hidden gem! The whole restaurant staff, and the owner himself make you feel good, super attentive and the attention to detail were superb. The bread was fresh, soft and warm, the salad and soup delicious, and the three of us had a different main dish that couldn’t tell which one was better. Chicken parm, linguine frutto di mare, and zuppe di mare we’re amazing!. Couldn’t leave without dessert and coffee, we had a chocolate volcano, and a dulce de leche crepe that were to die for, and the cappuccino was just perfect. I wish we were a lot closer to Giovanni’s, but it will be well worth it the one hour drive to enjoy this amazing place as many times that we have a chance. Don’t miss out on this fantastic restaurant!!

Pleasentely surprised

By Luis C |

We went with a customer to eat an Argentinian Parrillada and We were surprised by the quality and quantity of the food, the price and the service provided, and the price. Definitely it's a place to eat good food with a budget, but with the best. Giovanni was very kind and he introduce himself to us and invited us with a drink by the house, what was very kind. In short if you want to eat well and with a price that will surprised you, this is a nice place to go.

New Management - Not Bad

By OPSilver |

This used to be "La Portena" and we visited it quite often. It was sold not too long ago and we decided to give it a try. The menu is very similar to what it used to be (a few minor changes) and the place also had some minor cosmetic changes. In general, our dining experience was pleasant and we are planning on going back again.

A Hide GEM Restaurant in Doral...

By Jorge V |

A Hide GEM restaurant in Doral Miami Florida. The owner is an acknowledged chef and owner in this kind of business.....extremely friendly with GOOD Customer Service in Staff. The New York Strip and the Crepes for dessert....BOTH to DIE for. Also the Pasta with Shrimps that is a SPECIAL some days is really good. On Friday nights they have live music which is also a plus....entertainment with ambience.

Surprised and impressed

By Suzan B |

A wonderfully delicious meal! From the outside it doesn’t look like much as it’s in a strip mall-type setting, but once inside the atmosphere is charming. Highly recommend.

A business lunch

By John B |

We were a party of eight and the owner Giovanni suggested the large table in the back room. In a semi private setting setting. The wine was Josh cab from California and most of us had the daily special a goat cheese stuffed black Angus flat meat and the corvina topped with seafood. For desert the homemade tiramisu, wow wow wow. The quality and presentation of a 3 star Michelin restaurant.

A real italian jewel hidden

By Trino R |

The space: A corner hidden from the street in a shopping center off the 8th street and 85 avenue. Design: Good Taste Italian, no stereotypes or cheap reproductions: mural photographies of Rome create the ambiance together with a piano where on weekends you can find a good pianist. But you go there for the food that is simply excellent! The real thing... sometimes adorned by created notes. We asked for cod fritters with guava sauce as an appetizer. My wife's fish was a delicious Mahi fillet with orange sauce and slices of almond with a risotto as nutrition. I asked for the seafood soup: a huge bowl filled with calamari, clams, fish cubes in a tomato base. Great! The prices are good. The coffee better. No space left for dessert for us but the list looked tempting. For me, it was a nice discovery: a place that will form part of my list of favorites for all the reasons above and mainly for the quality of the service under the direct-all-the-time watch of the owner: Giovani that probably will welcome you and be in the top of everything during your visit there, hopefully soon...

One of the best Italian restaurants in Miami

By Ivelisse T |

I visit this restaurant 3 to 4 times per year. I always liked the presentation and flavors of their dishes. And a plus for a restaurant in Miami. They always play instrumental classic hits that contribute to a relaxing eating experience. This is very rare in Miami where most restaurants play loud music and most have sports TV on all the time. If you are looking for a romantic place to eat well, that's Guovanni's!

Tasteful food in familiar ambiance

By Mendy29 |

One of the most tasteful Argentinian and Italian restaurants in Miami, where you could degustate a reasonable price bottle of wine enjoying an exquisite selection of music. Family ambiance and courteous staff make Giovanni's Restaurant the perfect place to be.

Best risottos of the planet.

By gteran76 |

This is one of the best (if not the best) restaurant of the area. They have a descent wine list and the risottos are the best in the planet.

Hidden gem you need to discover!

By Debora M |

What a gem! Near FIU but off the beaten path! We had the prosciutto cheese wrapped asparagus to start, awesome! Then the garden house salad, with beets and strawberries! (Who puts that in their house salad…? Great!) Then we had pasta pomodoro and special of the night, pear ravioli! Phenomenal! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it! And the third dish was the mahi special, Light “med” sauce was delicious! A real gem, great service and a hidden location near FIU! We will be back!

Not easy to find in the back of a shopping center but, it was worthed the re-discovery

By Sergio R |

Finally, this place has their act together. We came here at the beginning when they opened this restaurant in the location of one of our favorite restaurants in Miami. Let's say that at that time it wasn't ready. But, we decided to give a try last night to celebrate my wife's B-Day and we were very impressed. The food and the service were excellent and portions were generous and the price very reasonable. We both ordered different fish plates. They were excellent. Mine came with a lobster risotto that was great. At the end, they brought to the table a tiramisu, courtesy of the house, that was difficult to pass - even though we were full already. The prices were about $20 per dish and they came with soup or salad; my celery cream was also excellent. The place is not easy to find in the back of a shopping center but, it was worth the re-discovery. Highly recommended!

Flavorful, attentive staff, elegant

By WednesdaysChild0404 |

Hidden in the back of a strip shopping center. Worth finding. Wide menu, easy to personalize for vegetarians or preferences. Eggplant rollatini appetizer and mushroom rissoto were delish!

Excellent quiet dinner !!!

By FabiolaMiami |

My husband and I visited this restaurant for the first time tonight, since some friends had recommended it. We ordered the salmon empanadas with guava sauce as appetizer and it was delicious. Then for the main entree we tried the grilled Mahi Mahi covered with melted cheese and tomatoes in a reduced wine sauce and mashed potatoes that was incredible good. We would greatly recommend this restaurant. Not only was the dinner good, but also the ambiance and service was excellent.

Two Thumbs Up!

By Kristy |

At first glance, Giovanni's Ristorante doesn't look all that special...just another Italian place in a Miami strip mall but once inside, the ambience is really nice. It is tastefully decorated and feels fancy but not pretentious. We were a party of 7, were seated right away, and were immediately served water and very warm and tasty bread. Drink orders were taken right away and fulfilled just as quickly. Service was on point the entire time. No unnecessary wait times, nobody's glass was ever given a chance to sit empty, and the waiter was just the right amount of attentive. There was a talented violinist playing live music that surprisingly even included some contemporary songs along with the classics throughout our meal, which enhanced the ambience. The food, from the complimentary bread to the salad, main dish, and dessert, was delicious. I had the entraña skirt steak with fries and a caesar salad. We shared tiramisu for dessert. The steak was cooked perfectly, the fries were the best I've had in a long, long time, and the dessert was scrumptious. Even the after dinner espresso and accompanying cookie was delish. Seven hungry people came in, savored every morsel, and left happy. Great service, great food, great ambience at surprisingly reasonable prices made this a wonderful way to celebrate my better half's birthday and put this place on our map with a little gold star for future visits. We have been back twice more since then, once for my own birthday and again just a few days ago for a mid-week lunch with friends and it just keeps getting better and better. Giovanni's is truly a hidden gem in Miami.

Mother's day lunch

By Mike V |

I am not one to post comments but, as a business owner myself, I feel compelled to do so. In today's instant gratification society people are quick to criticize but slow to complement. Today is mother's day and due to many circumstances I found myself with no plans for my amazing mom and I. The two of us were on our own looking for a good meal on a complicated day with no reservations. I had eaten at this restaurant any years ago when it had a different name and a different owner. I live 5 minutes away so I decided to stop by around 1:30pm. The place was packed but the hostess was very accommodating. Much to my suprise she came up with a little table for two. Despite the fact that the restaurant was FULL the service was amazing and the food was just as good. I am very big on good service and despite the chaos of mothers day the servers were awesome. Of course the food was amazing but for me, good service is my #1 priority. To the owners and staff....thank you for helping make my mom happy!! Best regards, Miguel A. Valdes

Great ham canellonni

By hectorfrommiami |

This place used to be called La Portena, they closed and then reopened under the name Giovanni's. I wanted to try it and I got out satisfied. Same mix of Argentinian and Italian cuisines as before with very good food and normal size portions at reasonable prices. I can go back soon to savor the ham canellonni again.

A Hidden Gem

By franksanchez0427 |

The outside is deceiving, located in the hidden corner of an unassuming shopping center, but that is were this treasure is hidden. When you walk in you are warmly welcomed by a very pleasant and courteous staff. The ambiance is quaint and the overall atmosphere is very pleasant. The food is exquisite, from the Eggplant Rollatini appetizer , the main course Risotto Filet Di Manso Trifolato, to an flavorful Tiramisu dessert , all served by a very courteous staff. Like all treasures, definitely worth finding. If this restaurant was located in Brickell , Coral Gables, and South Beach, people would be willing to pay at least twice as much, but then again, you would paying for some else's real estate. Highly recommended.

The best of the best

We love this restaurant , the staff is awesome , the owner is a very nice and wonderful person the menu and food are five star , this is my favorite restaurant in Miami. If there were several restaurants like Giovani’s Miami would be the capital of the gastronomy of America
