Well...it's ok, but there are many better options around

By edge46 |

I'd probably give this place 2 stars, but the food was reasonable. The service was totally disorganized and confusing for consumers and staff. I am sure something more efficient can be utilized. While it deserves a second chance, there are many other options in the area, so I am not sure when I will be coming back.

Tasty sweet treats in the Loop

By MarkPepp |

My niece was craving cupcakes, so we found this spot a short walk from the Palmer House Hilton where we were staying. Great selections of all sorts of baked goods: cupcakes, brownies, cookies, pies & cakes, as well as terrific coffee. It's a NO-CASH coffeehouse, credit only. Even on a late Saturday afternoon, this place is packed with lots of young folks (probably students from the nearby downtown colleges). Great carrot cake, raspberry cheesecake.

Just OK

By taace1i1a |

Wanted some yummy coffee and a light breakfast. It’s a cute place with a good vibe. I got a latte, granola with milk, and a lemon blueberry muffin. The latte was good. The granola was fine (although small) and had a nice honey flavor. After they dropped off the granola we mentioned we also had muffins. We finished our coffee and granola. I went up and asked for our muffins. Several minutes later we finally got them. It seems silly to make a big deal over muffins but they were odd. My friend got the coffee muffin and he asked if they were gluten free. I thought he was into something because they had such a strange texture and no flavor. The bill was $16 for coffee, a small amount of granola, and a bad muffin. I would come here for coffee, that’s all.

Yummy and pretty

By FascinatedTraveller |

Yummy food, friendly staff, and a beautiful space. You can tell there's care and attention that go into maintaining this business, and we truly enjoyed our breakfast here!

If staying nearby - a must stop!

By Pistol Pete |

The pastry selection was top notch! The coffee selection (traditional and/or specialty) is varied and delicious. Simple croissants were flakey, great lamination, and warm!!

Yummy breakfast bad coffee!

By JPG |

While on Chicago this past weekend we stopped by this crowded place which is pretty good decorated and with a great vibe. I had a salmon with a bagel for 11 dlls which is not that expensive but it was like if ordered at IKEA it was salmon on one side capers on the other cream on the other and your bagel. Coffee seemed nice but wasn't that good when I tried it.

Busy, hip, unique place

By gemcdowell |

I tried the Goddess and the Bake twice while in Chicago for a short work conference. First, I tried the bowl of oatmeal without nuts for breakfast and a red eyed goddess coffee. The oatmeal was good, I asked for extra brown sugar. Didn't care for my drink, but there were several choices, so I would just order something different next time. I went for lunch the next time and got some kind of Vietnamese chicken slaw wrap with fruit. The wrap was not my favorite BUT the oreo chocolate cake my boss got was AMAZING! It really was just a cute cafe, perfect for pictures. I would come again and keep trying something new.

Excellent!

By Sam N |

Lovely place! Brilliant options including unusual coffees and lots of healthy bites. Food and drink are excellent and the friendly team always find you a seat :)

Great and busy!!!!

By coolmammaa |

Place is beautiful and you eat with your eyes... service was good and they have several people cleaning and serving! outdoor seating was pleasant. A great choice if you're in Chicago.

Great food

By Lean M |

This place is awesome it have a great variety of pastries and a good selection of coffees. The service is really good and the place is really cozy and clean.

Not baby feiendly 😠

By Maca bl |

They go all over the top saying they are all inclusive but can’t add a baby changing table, and it’s not lack of space in the bathroom at all. The floor is dirty and i had to clean all so i could manage. Horrible experience overall.

Great coffee , skip the pastries unless you check they are fresh!

By 99happy99 |

Coffee was good. Pastries didn’t seem to be fresh daily- croissant certainly didn’t taste fresh! The cinnamon roll was great one day but the next day was not so good!

Great breakfast sandwiches and baked goods!!!

By Kenny S |

My family and I frequented Goddess and the Baker several times in the days leading up to and following the Chicago Marathon. The breakfast sandwiches here are superb with the right amount of spice on excellent croissants. Additionally, baked goods here are decorative and delicious. We enjoyed this location and look forward to our return.

Best place to eat in all of Chicago. I came here everyday of my trip.

By Eddie T |

I’ve been wanting to try different places to eat while in Chicago and honestly, I keep finding myself wanting to come back to the Goddess. This place is amazing. The food and the drinks are hand crafted, incredibly delicious. I could add 78+ adjectives. Words are simply not enough to describe them. There’s so many great choices. The staff is very friendly and kind. I was talking to Sandra, an employee at Goddess, about what I should get..She was so sweet and asked me about the things I would like, my favorite flavors, etc. She gave me a detailed description of the turkey bacon sandwich and an apple oats latte; absolutely delectable. Thank you so much! I’ll be returning everyday for the rest of my trip.

Good - although insanely crowded

By John S |

Just went to pick up a salad. Tasty food. Long wait. Very packed at 2 pm on Saturday. I would go back either early or late in the day.

Nice to be seen

By La_Letiz |

Actually croissant were not fresh baked and I hate paying 5$ or more for a croissant, especially if it is not fresh baked. Coffe not the best in the city

A Bit Overrated

By Bonnie T |

This restaurant is very popular. The menu is a bit different -which is good - but the food is just average and, to me, overrated,

Carrot Cake Treat

By hrminella |

This cafe is beautiful, comforting, and a great place to take a break from the day. Their carrot cake is worth driving an hour to get, along with their house coffee.

Love this place!

By Cheryl L |

Super cool restaurant! Perfect lunch before a show. The guy I ordered with was so patient. Being my 1st time there, it was so hard to pick 1 thing to eat...he was super nice & really tried to help! Delicious, quick, filling but so healthy I felt great when I left😊 Loved the food, loved the atmosphere! I’d hang here all the time if I lived in Chicago!!! Please bring your restaurant to Fishers, IN!!!!!

Chicago

By Raysa S |

Really good food generous portions excellent late good prices. Salmon Plater is as fantastic very good customer service

Overrated and overpriced.

By W1746ELsimonc |

My one, and only, visit to this business. A raspberry scone for $4.28 which had no raspberries except for some seeds and skin on the outer layer; clearly the scone was bereft of flavor. A cup of coffee for a further $5.15 which needed time off to get it’s strength back. Talk about a waste of time and money...oh, and they won’t take money, they insist on cards and then have the temerity to ask fo one would like to leave a tip.

Great espresso and baked items

By viganiko |

The whole store is very nicely designed, the cake cabinet is the jewel on top. Every drink and sweet we tried was nice. The only issue o has was my iced matcha, the honey was almost impossible to get up from the bottom in the cold drink.

Favorite place in Chicago

By Emelie |

This is the place I always go with my friends to hang out and just talk. Nice Instagram friendly place!

Interesting breakfast cuisine

By dennislee52 |

Ate here at a friends suggestion but it was not what I was expecting. Definitely a millennial hot spot to eat but not an "old guys "spot. Couldn't get their chili off the menu board because chili is a "seasonal soup"-really? So I got their tuna melt sandwich which was the safest thing that looked good to me. It was excellent but not really what I wan't for breakfast. Theirs is a traditional menu with high octane additives; matched to suit a more liberal eating crowd-translation, under 45 years of age. Service was friendly and efficient. From the crowd coming in, it was a very popular place to eat or pick up carry out; so the rating is on what I ate and what I saw. This was just not the place I would normally eat breakfast. Seating was typical Chicago style "find your own spot".

Nice cozy breakfast spot with bakery items

By Travelingandtastingtheworld |

We had breakfast here one morning mainly because they had a glitter latte. The breakfast items were small. The bakery items were fresh. The space itself is very cute but small.

Nice breakfast stop

By Catherine M |

We stopped by here due to convenience as our hotel was literally around the corner. We went for turkey bacon and egg croissants with tea (English people and their cups of tea) and both were nice. It can be difficult to get decent tea whilst stateside but I’d recommend this place to any travelling brits.

Rainbow Cake Forever

By 57amandah |

My husband described this as a "lady cafe" and that's a pretty good way to put it - as a lady, I loved it. My husband was less enthused but he put up with it, ha. The cafe is super pretty and it (plus all the food) is super instagrammable. We had rainbow cake and a coffee which was expensive but worth it. A couple other people at our table were eating salads which looked amazing, but we stuck to the cake. We had to stop in a couple times before we managed to score a seat (it's busy) but I'm glad we kept trying!

Carrot Cake

By Lauren R |

Popped in here for some coffees and shared a slice of their massive and delicious carrot cake. It was very busy, but we managed to get two seats as someone was leaving. The carrot cake was one of the best we've tried, very light and tasty. The sandwiches we seen looked great too and are something we will need to try if we ever return to Chicago. Lovely cafe with great atmosphere and friendly staff.

Abundant GF and Vegan selections

By Jewelsworld |

I needed to bring treats for a get-together with women who had assorted dietary restrictions including gluten and lactose free as well as vegan. I knew The Goddess and the Baker would have what I was looking for, though I should have come much earlier in the day because I basically bought all they had left. Banana nut muffins, chocolate muffins and peanut butter chocolate cookies that were all really delicious. Every bite was gobbled up! I do a ton of baking but have just started to launch into some gluten free baking and didn’t have the ingredients I needed on hand for everything. I’m happy that the bakery was just a couple blocks away! The decor is fun and features aqua - gives an old-fashioned vibe. The line for purchases was very long and the wait was a bit past the patience maximum for my two-year old grandson. It was also extremely crowded - obviously a meeting place for Millennials. Not too many Q-Tips like me. But that won’t stop me from returning. The cake display was very, very tempting! Next time.

Breakfast with the Goddess

By MAX W |

This is a neighborhood place. Communal seating, like a school cafeteria or the Army. Seems a good idea, if you are not alone, to have one person stake out a spot to sit when crowded. Everybody is friendly and will remove/move coats from seats if needed, or even move over a seat. It seemed your food is delivered by the same person taking your order. They have many breakfast choices, eggs, omelettes, breads, oatmeal and my wife’s newest addition thanks to the Goddess, cake instead of toast. Or cookies, if you like. They also have lunch choices and maybe dinner. (I still cannot believe my wife got us cake for breakfast....twice). We enjoyed talking to other patrons about how to get places from there. Clientele is mostly college age kids, who are very friendly. Eggs, across the board are cooked to order and done nicely. Coffee is good, but not of the fabulous nature, but still very good and served in a small carafe, and refills are free which you may go grab yourself, but sometimes a server happens by and they offered to refill the 2 cup carafe. They will make some special coffees drinks and I assumed you may still refill from the coffee bar. As previously stated, my wife shamelessly ordered the fabulous cake for breakfast and no one even looked surprised! However I did note The Goddess, herself, delivered the cake, perhaps to see the crazy folks getting cake for breakfast. The kids next to us had some raised eyebrows. One asked, “what would your mother say?” “Live it up!” I also explained it has all the other breakfasts have, eggs, flour, milk, etc. prices were not cheap, being downtown under the L train, but not excessive. Oatmeal was great, as was the omelette I had the first day. A fun spot to connect with other folks. Good for breakfast lunch or afternoon coffee break. Probably dinner also. Just good food and coffee.

Chocolate Overload

By Brandon |

Try everything!! Upon entering you will be amazed at all their offerings. The pastries are perfectly crafted and their lattes look like a work of art. Definitely try the chocolate crossiant! The Nutella latte was perfect and the liquid chocolate is exactly what it sounds like. Perfection!

Not as good as it looks

By L H |

Disorganized service could use more hospitality instead of the assembly-line feel, and ridiculous that you have to wait in the coffee line just for baked goods (already paid for). Very cramped and arranged poorly for traffic flow. Dry, bland scone was very overdone, pumpkin bar not too flavorful.

Delicious food - limited seating

By Sophie L |

Stopped for brunch on a Sunday, packed house, people waiting for seats. Most people seated had already eaten and were on their laptops, while the rest of us tried not to hover. After placing our order, we got our drinks and food after a short wait, but ended up eating our breakfast burrito and sandwich standing up at the counter area. The food was beautiful and delicious, and there were many options on the menu--especially beverages. I would go back and perhaps try something new, maybe a weekday is less crowded.

Awesome place!

By Alexa |

It’s so beautiful! And the food is also AWESOME it’s so yummy and aesthetic! This is the most instagramable cafe I found near my hotel during my 7 day stay in Chicago! The only problem is how full it gets, so sometimes it’s tough to find a table.

Popular coffee/bakery spot good for a quick breakfast

By el13207 |

Great coffee and breakfast spot in the Loop, although there’s limited seating indoors and outdoor seating has to contend with the frequent loud passing of El trains. Coffee was good as was a crumb-topped blueberry muffin; croissants were a little tough. Service was good although their system is confusing: order at the back and then they give you a buzzer and bring your order to you (if you’re eating/drinking there). We were staying in a hotel across the street and this was a great alternative to the hotel breakfast and the ubiquitous Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts.

Cafe to count on!

By Angela B |

Another wonderful visit! Delicious food and nice selection for vegan or other diets (IMO). Service was kind and courteous. Cafe was clean and we were there at opening for breakfast. We first visited this cafe during our 2023 trip to Chicago and it’s on one of our dependable lists to get a nice, small and easy meal.

Hopping breakfast/coffee spot

By PboroBill |

Location is right across from hotel and my wife approved of their coffee. We went here three out of four mornings (would've been 4/4 but up too early before they opened one day). Food is good, portion sizes are a little small for what you're buying...my egg white scrambler might have had one egg in it (but I later saw another one that was probably 2x...luck of the draw?). Table space is at a premium in here too. Lots of people linger once they're done eating with their phones/laptops...which I get. One girl was hogging three spots on a day with no available seating with her coat/bag in an adjacent chair and laptop beside her on other side while she ate. Staff might need to be a little more pushy on stuff like that when there's no room. Anyway - decent food, wife loved the coffee.

Just as Described in Reviews

By foodie848 |

Was in the city with a friend for the day and looked up some places close to where we were. Found this one and decided to try it based on its reviews. My friend ordered a salad, and I got a a sandwich and a slice of carrot cake. The salad and sandwich were DELICIOUS! The cake, however, though it looked amazing, was just eh. The prices and portions were what you would expect in downtown Chicago. We sat at their tables outside (there are only a few) because it was packed inside. I would definitely return to try a few other items on their menu, but I wouldn't order the carrot cake again. This small, cute place is definitely worth a try, though!

Rainbow cake

By Seamus48 |

If you Yelp bakeries in Chicago this place pops up first with a picture of their rainbow cake. Once I saw that I had to try it. It was delicious. The case was full of beautiful baked goods. The menu looked tasty

Great salad!

By Julie I |

I stopped by on a weekday around lunch time. It was busy but service was quick and my salad came out quickly. It was delicious. I didn't try any of the baked goods but they looked amazing!

Begin your Chicago morning here for caffeine and beyond

By Nancy L B |

My new favorite place to grab coffee and delicious baked goods in Chicago. What a wonderful breakfast experience full of so many wonderful baked good and other choices. I highly recommend the carrot cake! Loved the food and atmosphere and they had delicious options for my gluten free husband.

Terrific Bakery

By cazcindy |

The Goddess and the Baker on Wabash Ave. was the second stop on my food tour. We were given one of their fudge brownies and it was decadent, exactly how a brownie should be. There is a large assortment of baked goods and all looked incredibly good. I told my daughter about it and we went back my last morning in Chicago. She had breakfast and told me this restaurant/bakery was a "real find." Lunch is also served here.

Unique Breakfast and Coffee

By Taylor Rae B |

The atmosphere is so warm and modernity inviting. It is nestled right off of Wabash where you can see the Pink line drive by on the elevated tracks. The staff was absolutely amazing, very polite, professional, and well knowledgeable about the area. The food was exquisite and made fresh upon ordering. Such a wide variety of pastries are shown in a well put together glass case. Environment was very lively with music and chatter (not too loud to the point of annoyance) but definitely not a quiet place, which we enjoyed. Will definitely come here again when back in the city.

Wonderful breakfast venue!

By 1happyislander |

We just loved this place! Breakfast was so good, we were here two days in a row. The protein bowl is excellent, as are the breakfast tostados. Croissants are buttery and flaky and the chai latte is wonderful. But the best is the chicken and waffles - wow! The staff is delightful! Thanks for great food and service. We will be back!

Excellent coffee shop

By Sharman S |

Great location across from the Silversmith hotel and next to the Loop. Pastry selection was very large and sugar cookies were works of art. Tasty food and atmosphere awesome.

Good assortment of baked goodies and drinks

By CRMotorbikes |

This place has a good assortment of baked goodies, though I didn’t get to try any because the Yogurt Parfait was quite filling. The yogurt is tangy, not that sweet stuff you get elsewhere. There is a good amount of fresh fruit and granola on top. My Chai Tea Latte was served hot in a glass, which surprised me, but it worked. I liked the vibe, and that I could hangout on my laptop and not feel rushed. The areas they need to improve is: My parfait was served with a dirty spoon, which was replaced with no problem. The gal serving the food couldn’t locate the patron who ordered the food, though everyone had a buzzer, which didn’t get used to find you. Being my first time, I didn’t know where the napkins were. I didn’t get any with my yogurt parfait. I would definitely return and try some of the baked goodies. The Macarons looked good, and the iced cookies were cute and colorful.

Very nice breakfast place , in downtown

By Gidons51 |

Very nice breakfast place . Very typical American self service food . Good coffee and nice selection of breakfast items. Nice decoration and sitting .

Wonderful coffee and food, beautiful pastries

By Fernando C |

Found this gem close to my hotel. Friendly staff, great food and even patrons are friendly. No table was available and a young couple invited me to share their table. I was happy all day

Delicious pastries and espresso

By Kelly R |

Delicious croissants and coffee. One of my daughters and I ordered chocolate croissants and they warmed them up for us. It was sensational. My other daughter ordered a Nutella croissant that was also warmed up and was extremely disappointed when compared to our chocolate croissants. I’m not gonna to fault the review for this, but the Nutella was extremely puny compared with the amazing chocolate so don’t get fooled into getting a Nutella one. Cappuccino was delicious and just what I wanted.

Beautiful Baked Goods

By Carol J |

We came here as part of a walking food tour. We had delicious brownies! In fact they are probably the best I have ever had. There was a beautiful display of baked goods which I have included in my photos.

To repeat each day

By ANTWAHN_MATAS |

It is very lucky to have this place right in front of the hotel. Level breakfasts and good service. Everything is excellent and with a very good presentation. It's worth it, we went every day. As they do well, it's very crowded.

Pastriiiiiiiies

By Alison M |

My mom and I needed a spot to get coffee from while we were in Chicago and lo and behold, this was our spot! Pastries are equally as cute as they are delicious, love the various food options (her favorite was the avocado toast), and the matcha - although a little too sweet for me - was probably about as good as I was going to get. Rainbow cake slice was perfect for my flight home!

Hmmm

By parkemb |

For a large group (4+) go at odd times as space is limited. This was my first visit and I am undecided. The other reviews perhaps prepared me for something special. The cafe was beautiful, well thought out, there are many unique touches beyond just a regular coffee house. However, I wasn’t wowed by the pastries, the menu, or the coffee. The coffee was ok, I mostly liked there were multiple ‘creamer’ and nondairy options. As many coffee shops are stingy with almond, coconut, and other more expensive non dairy options. The pastries were dense and dry. The flavor was there, but the flaky/fluffy/ butter soul of the past had left is square little body. My total was 16 dollars for two 12 oz house brews, and two pastries. Pricing is close to Starbucks-which are infamously overpriced. So all in all I would try one more time to see if I could be more impressed.

Great breakfast spot

By AWATS |

Stopped in for some coffee and a little early morning bite. Quick service, great coffee/tea and some interesting little bites. Well worth a stop in

Bad service

By Candiejo |

This staff was overwhelmed and were not prepared for a Saturday. It was a 20-25 minute wait for an iced latte or a cold brew. We ordered a pastry to go and were kicked outside to wait, while all the other to go orders got to stay inside in the AC. The manager came up to us alone to send us outside. I watched about 8 other men not move an inch and were not approach. It sucks sometimes to be a petite woman who people feel they can order around.

Sort Of Good

By seeksocean |

Loved the concept and the consciousness. But the avocado on the avocado toast looked and tasted like a commercially prepared guacamole mix and not a fresh avocado. And the greens were soggy.

Great atmosphere,great breakfast.

By Scott N |

Coffee was delicious (americano and latte) turkey bacon egg croissant and breakfast sandwiches were awesome My wife and I both loved it!

Wonderful spot for breakfast and coffee

By OlyEast |

Great place for a quick breakfast when on the go visiting Chicago. Very tasty food, unbelievable pastries, and great coffee. Family style seating inside and outside normal seating. A great find.

Yummy Food - Always Packed

By Becky L |

We have always enjoyed everything we have gotten here, but we have never eaten inside because it is so busy. The wait is worth it, however. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Wheelchair accessible but a tight squeeze.

I could eat here every morning!

By Kristin S |

I have only good things to say! While I don't love the name, the vibe and food and coffee and staff are stellar! We were looking for a coffee/breakfast spot on our way out of town on a Monday morning. This location was a half mile from our hotel and near Millennium Park so we could make one last stop there too. You may encounter a long line but it moves quickly as they have a efficient system in place. You stand in line, order, are given a doo-hicky, and your drinks/food are delivered to your spot. Because I saw this modification on their instagram, I asked to sub arugula for their toast with my Bacon Avocado Omelette. I'm still dreaming of the little cookie on the side of my cappuccino. I would have bought a dozen if I could have. While this spot was busy on a weekday morning, it didn't feel over-crowded or annoying. We sat at the window and enjoyed great people-watching as we sipped coffee and enjoyed our breakfast. I would return here again in a heartbeat! The icing on the cake is the super friendly staff. This spot must have great management because the staff seem happy and things run really efficiently.

Healthy fast food

By dstambaugh3 |

Staff were great. Very busy and everything ran smoothly. Place your order and then hopefully find a seat. Again, the place was busy. My hummus wrap was very good and my wife had an acai bowl which she loved. Noise is fairly loud but you can have a conversation. Family style seating and place your order and sit down. Staff brings the order to you. Good experience.

What a Surprise!

By Paula C |

I was staying in the area looking for a quick breakfast and this little gem was just what I was looking for. I got the Tostada and it was everything I wanted. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful and the service was exactly what I would expect from a place like this. I also ordered a sugar free iced vanilla latte w/ heavy cream (keto style) and they prepared it without blinking. I will return.

Very good coffee and biscuit

By DJM1945 |

This cafe was really nice with excellent decor and very central. The coffee and the cake/ biscuit we had was first class.

Depends on what you get

By Jennifer H |

We came here for breakfast twice during our trip. It's very busy but they do an excellent job of keeping it moving and getting people where they need to go. The first day what we got was all good. I thought my yogurt was kind of bland but it was fine. Also my son's chocolate croissant just had a huge blob of chocolate in the center rather than spread out. It was still good and we came back. The next time, I did not like the chia rice pudding at all. To be fair, I can be picky but it tasted like perfume to me. I took a risk on it and I get that. But my son got the cinnamon roll and it was really bad. It was super dry, had very little taste besides the icing on the top and was essentially burnt where it touched the pan (it was like a tall cupcake). So that was disappointing for a $7 cinnamon roll. All in all, we spent like $60 here and it really wasn't worth it, even though the place is super cute.

Best breakfast we’ve had in Chicago

By Carol B |

Bustling, light & bright environment with sharing tables & active take-away counter. Deliciously light omelette with fresh, tasty filling and accompaniments. Good coffee. Only reason it’s not a 5* is the disinterest of the staff.

Disappointing

By Sofia T |

The baked goods were disappointing. I had a croissant and a slice of strawberry loaf and both were not fresh and sub-par when compared to other places in town. I was expecting much more, given their price ($5,$6)

Great coffee and breakfast sandwich

By Katiebird1 |

I was in Chicago for about 24 hours but visited this place twice, because it was across the street from my hotel. On day one, I had coffee and a very nice ham/egg/cheese breakfast sandwich on a cheddar biscuit. On day two I met a friend for coffee in the afternoon. The place is quite small and very busy. I didn't think I would find seats, but I did. There is a sign saying something like "Please do not take a seat until after you order. Don't worry, we will help you get a seat!" Customers seemed to follow that rule, so there wasn't anyone parked there for hours with a laptop, hogging a seat. Delicious cappuccino.

Good but well…

By D R |

Good taste for sandwiches but overpriced for the size, coffee average, the oatmeal was good and the fruit were fresh. Small place if going more than two

Great breakfast spot

By Diane B |

Excellent food and service. The food was amazing and service was quick and friendly. The menu selection was unique and drinks were so good. Great spot!!

Great spot for coffee and catch up!

By PaulaGalvin |

Fantastic spot with wonderful baked goods, a wonderful selection of coffees, teas and hot chocolate, great sandwiches, bagels and breakfasts. I had the flat white and a Greek salad. My friend had an Americano and a yoghurt parfait Great atmosphere here too!

Great Breakfast

By sdotSLC |

Breakfast was excellent, came back for lunch and got a salad that was...ok, but the breakfast rocked! Cake had the best tasting frosting ever!

Fun stop

By Amy G |

So we just stopped here on a whim and were so glad! I had the caprese omelet and ginger pineapple tonic.

terrible service

By Jennifer M |

We visited this place two years ago and enjoyed it, so we came back. I stood in front of the pastry case on two separate occasions without ever being offered service. There were five people standing there and not one offered to help me. We were some of the first customers, so I don't feel like I needed to wait, and I had questions before ordering. We did eventually get coffees, but I wouldn't come back after this experience.

Quick bite! And gluten free options

By Gmanbumpy |

I needed a quick sandwich before heading into a conference. The caprese sandwich was so good. It came hot. I probably would have chosen cold it I knew before ordering. Gluten free options for pastries. I did not check if they have gluten free bread. We had the caramel brownie. Delicious!!! Banana muffin was also very good and came warm. I was taking it for later so again wished I knew before ordering that they warmed it. The pastries and cakes looked amazing. I did not order anything not gluten free. Coffee drinks look great. Hey have breakfast options. I will be back when I have more time!

Charming coffee shop!

By Stacy Strickland |

This coffee shop has a charming atmosphere, good service and a delighful menu. Make sure you have some time to wait in line and find a spot to eat - it's worth it! I had the avocado toast and a cup of golden milk. Both were delicious. Although, I could have done with their metal tray and paper liner. I chose to cut the toast to eat it, and constantly fought with the fact that the metal tray spins on their counter tops and the paper kept getting cut also and was just plain in the way. If the plates are being washed, I'm not sure why they even use the paper liner...

Fantastic Cafe, cannot be found in Michigan

By Bolicheboliche |

We went with the family and we really enjoyed. It s a nice cafe. It s not easy to find a good cafe in Michigan. This is one of them. Recommended

Vegetarian/vegan options

By Joan T |

The vegetarian wrap and the protein salad were both delicious! Since it was my birthday, we also ordered the rainbow cake. Fantastic!!!

not worth it

By david y |

poor service, lazy and/or hostile staff, food was ok, 50 degrees outside which also meant inside because the doors and huge windows were all thrown wide open. Nice looking place, at least.

Quick and fairly easy; solid food and coffee

By adamjhu |

I love having a place to grab a quick, hot breakfast and coffee that isn't fast food, and this place was a nice find in the Loop. Nothing about it was mindblowing, but it was good enough and super convenient. Would recommend for a quick bite.

Sweet tooth

By greentater |

Was a stop of a food tour & loved the brownies! Have been back few times since for more brownies ❤️. Have tried a few other bakery items & other styles if brownies, all we're fabulous!

Lovely coffee and morning sandwich

By Si_cambridge000 |

Deli quality coffee. The morning sandwich (can’t remember name exactly!) was delicious and perfectly cooked. Friendly service. A lovely start to the day.

Good salads and sandwiches

By Betty |

The food here is pricey but they use quality ingredients so it is definitely worth it. We ordered our Chopped Salads and sandwiches to go. The food was very good. We love the salad and its colorful presentation. Their Goddess dressing is light and not overpowering, just perfect on the salads.

Great coffee!!!

By Gwen L |

A quaint little bakery/restaurant in downtown. The coffee was top notch. Chicken and bacon infused waffles were good but chicken was a little overcooked. Came by daily for coffee during my Chicago stay.

Terrible service !

A barista ( who also happens to be a manager ) overcharged me by $15 while taking my order (charged me for extra food I have not ordered, added extra almond milk and added a $5 tip to herself that I have never selected. She did not print me my receipt so I had to come back and ask for my receipt because I realized it was too much then she refunded me for the food I have never ordered but not for the tip so I had to ask again and she continued to lie to my face that I did that when I never had a choice to select a tip (she took an order, I gave her my card and she never gave a receipt by trying to trick me and I still did not get a refund on my card. I have called the place after and they said there is nothing they can do. The food was ok but the staff have completely ruined my experience

Yummy, but limited seating

By GMJinTN |

We had eaten a big lunch, but needed something before Hamilton. This was fast and friendly, but our party of 4 had to sit at two different counters (not tables) in different parts of the restaurant on a Tuesday night in January. It was busy and you sit close to folks.

Great stop on a busy morning

By ChicagoToni2014 |

Efficient, friendly service and great food! I stopped in before an early morning trip to the Art Institute and I almost didn’t go in as it seemed really busy. But I decided to stick it out as it seemed to be one of the few places open near by. (Lots of people nearby for the NASCAR race!). The ordering process was super fast and efficient and they worked to get people seated as quickly as possible. The order takers and servers were really friendly. I had to stop a manager to compliment them as I really was impressed. So hats off to KJ, Timarah and Rose for a well run business on a crazy morning!

One of best breakfast places anywhere

By Sally R |

Really interesting menu made choosing breakfast difficult. Had Ironman Scrambler- delish! Nicely decorated throughout-( including bathroom!) and great vibe. Def returning!

Love the food and ambience.

By Tara D |

Ate here 3 times during my visit to Chicago because I enjoyed it so much. Really enjoyed the Avocado toast, very generous amount of avocado, and one day when I had Carrot cake, it was lovely and a good sized slice. Coffee was OK, but I didn't try any specialty drinks because they seemed a bit pricey. Both locations in the West Loop are lovely with good ambience.

Pretty with no substance

By Salma N |

Everything is just okay...nothing is amazing or great except the décoré which is why I gave it 3 stars. I have been here twice in 1 week and there is always something lacking, the food or drink is just okay, the place is not cleaned, the wifi is not working. It has a lot of potential but requires service that matches how pretty everything is (food/drinks presentation and decor) and the prices.

Opposite the Silversmith Hotel, great breakfast location

By Dave & Steph |

Came across it by chance, it was very busy! Well-stocked counter with baked goods, very appealing and a relatively large selection of breakfast options. Service at the table afterwards, seating outside and inside. Highly recommended, rather expensive

Great sandwiches!

By Andrea C. |

Ate here after walking around and seeing some sights in Chicago on an unseasonably warm day in November. We all LOVED our sandwiches, but I have to say of the baked goods/treats we tried, the consensus was they looked better than they tasted. The goodies weren’t bad, just okay. It was lovely to sit outside and enjoy the gorgeous day!

Fabulous Food and Coffee

By Holly G |

We visited this excellent breakfast spot 17 December 2022. We had to wait a bit, but were thrilled by the coffee, avocado toast, and all of their offerings. The only reason for less than 5 stars is because they claimed to be out of vegan muffins when they were clearly displayed in the case.

A Nice Place for a Bite to Eat

By FLB |

We were staying at a hotel nearby and just wanted a bite to eat not a full dinner. This place has a good variety and a lot of healthy choices. We ended up having a light dinner there one night and breakfast another time. The staff is friendly and efficient. I highly recommend this place.

Great food and nice place

By Virginia G |

The food and drinks are great but the place is a bit small and loud. They have good pastries and food for breakfast.

Convenient for breakfast on Wabash

By ComradeCamper |

A group of us were staying at the Palmer House, as part of a bus excursion. The Palmer House -- can you believe it?!? -- doesn't have coffee-makers in their hotel rooms. They have a huge breakfast buffet, and a couple of very expensive "niche" cafes. The concierge very kindly pointed me about two blocks down the street to the Goddess and the Baker. I loved the name immediately; I confess I didn't even care about the food or coffee that they served. I looked over their breakfast menu, and couldn't decide on anything. One of their staff suggested a breakfast burrito. It was huge, with lots of tasty ingredients, and turned out to be very satisfying and filling. I needed extra salsa, and staff was very cheerful and generous with that request. Not a great bargain for take-out food, but that's life in the big Windy City, I guess. You can help yourself to to-go coffee from a large urn. I believe there was a lighter roast and a darker roast that morning. I opted for the darker roast, and it was very delicious. While I was waiting for my food to be prepared, I noticed a group of four women having coffee and ---- cake. I didn't have a chance to ask them what the special occasion was, but I wish I would have, because the cake was so stunning. It had six or seven layers, each one a different color, beginning with red and of course ending with indigo/violet. It was a Rainbow Cake! When you go to the Goddess and the Baker, ask for the Rainbow Cake.

Breakfast

Absolutely loved it Great atmosphere, friendly staff, tasty food. Sparkling water on tap The coffee was also very good Amazing

Great Café, Great Food.

By World Traveller |

We ate here every morning for breakfast for the week were in Chicago. It was perfect, central and the food fresh and delivered fast. Excellent coffee, staff were good, it is a café so manage your expectations. The only slight annoyance is that when you pay by card the ‘Tips’ window pops up; so, you line up and order your meal, pour your own coffee, find your own seat, a little presumptuous. However, a great place, and would go back…

Good Caffeine Buzz

By Megan P |

This is a super cute coffee shop close to Millennium Park. Their display case of bakery items made it hard to choose just one. If you have a sweet tooth and love caffeine this place is for you.

Great food, poor service

By Zoe W |

We had breakfast here twice during our recent stay in Chicago and really enjoyed the pastries which is why we visited more than once, but the service was disappointing with not one member of the team serving with a smile at any point.

Food and service ok but so noisy!

By Lavarcham |

The blueberry and lemon muffins were delicious, light and crunchy but would have been dry without the butter I asked for as extra. The tea pot with strainer was not quite successful restraining the leaves but they readily replaced it for a more successful version. The house butter croissant was ok as was the house coffee which was served in a cute pot. Although very convenient from our hotel across the road, the noise was off-putting and we won’t be repeating the experience.

Gluten-free options and delicious brunch

By Gmanbumpy |

Lost our order so it took longer than I would have thought Gluten-free options muffins bread brownies and macrons. Brunch foods recommended turkey bacon croissant sandwich! Impossible breakfast sandwich salmon plate and tostada were all delicious. If you are there in June get the Pride glitter latte. Easy brunch after Art Institute visit Seating inside communal but it appeared they could accommodate also outdoor seating. It was occupied when we looked and we sat inside

Amazing

By Mike M |

Wow. This place is moderately busy, yet the service was fast, really friendly, and delicious! The bakery items are amazing as were the sandwiches and egg dishes. Many coffee options which are beautifully made and equally great.

Great place for breakfast.

By I love dining out |

Such a good system in place…..queue,choose from the menu, order, pay, receive a gadget to say where you are sitting, sit down, grab your coffee (if ordered), await food to be delivered to you & eat! We have been back every day!

Average experience

By Sydney S |

I wanted to love this place more than I did but it was just alright! I wouldn’t get the banana fosters iced latte again it was just loads of cinnamon which I don’t mind but don’t love either. Also the girl at the register was not very informative on my allergy concerns. It was just fine nothing crazy. I didn’t try any food and that seemed to be popular looking around the cafe which was cute!

Unique and delicious!

By Trvlgirl31 |

We found this place just by sheer luck since it was close to our hotel! We felt so lucky to have had dined in there! What a great atmosphere, decor and presentation! The food was delicious! We were in love with the food at the food at first bite! Definitely unique combinations!

Amazing breakfast

By Zac fletcher |

I got the Acai bowl and it was phenomenal, some of the best breakfast I have had anywhere. All the stuff in there looks great but I highly recommend the Acai bowl. Service was great also.

Not to be missed to start the day off right!

By Eudes M |

Worth the detour to have a good breakfast. A wide choice of dishes and drinks, an esplanade to enjoy sunny mornings, in short, enough to start a good day.

WOW

By foxymamaruth |

Oh my!!! When you walk thru the door, you are greeted by so much deliciousness that it's hard to decide on what item to order. My friend and I were heading out of town, so we just wanted to get a few snacks for the trip home. We both ordered the rice crispy treats (which were huge and delicious) and also 2 muffins. I had the coffee cake muffin which was outstanding and my friend ordered the blueberry. She commented that her muffin was very very dense. However, it looked scrumptious. We were in a hurry, so unfortunately we didn't have time to order anything else. I will definitely visit this awesome place next time I am in Chicago.

Excellent for brunch!

By Karen |

What a place!! Delicious food and very enjoyable attention. I had the opportunity to visit them twice, and it was always delicious. It is a place that is definitely recommended!!

Fun coffee shop

By bolkin |

Loved the ambiance and the coffee. We stopped by on a rainy day, and it was clear to us this was a popular spot. While we only tried the coffee, the pastries and food looked great to. We will be back!

Terrible food, service and coffee

By Yomna A |

The Nutella latte was not stirred and was cold. The food was bland. The service was terrible. I absolutely do NOT recommend. Especially if you are a person of color. Never going there again. If I could give it zero star, I would.

Amazing!

By Baxx |

We got an Acai bowl and shared a bagel with salmon and some avocado toasts. Everything else we saw looked delicious as well. Can't wait to come back and try something new! 5 stars for you guys :-)

Near the Palmer House Hilton

By Warren K |

Spotted this yesterday as I was walking down Wabash Ave. it appears to be a new breakfast chain with a millennial and organic feel. Very Clean and the service was very good. A wide selection of choices for breakfast including omelettes, smoothies, and bakery goods. I had the caprese omelette and added avocado. Modest size omelette. My side of bacon was OK but it was a little bit skimpy and not crispy enough. Iced coffee was great. I enjoyed my breakfast and would return the next time I am in Chicago.

Every bite is a delightful experience!!!

By Margaret N |

Goddess and the Baker is a hidden gem! Their cakes are not only visually stunning but also melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The attention to detail in their designs is impeccable, making every bite a delightful experience!!!

Cute little place!

By kklammer |

Stopped here for a quick coffee and pastry when we arrived in town. Loved this place. They have an outdoor seating area which was a welcome treat after traveling. The inside was smaller, family style seating but still cute! The full menu looked good but we only had time for a quick bite. Would come back again and get a more complete meal! Also, lots of vegan and GF options too.

Good for breakfast

By Aiman T |

Stay basic: oatmeal and coffee for breakfast are fulfilling. Although the place looks calm, the music in the morning is loud and more suitable for lunch. There cold drinks are refreshing in a hot afternoon. Skip the dessert.

Delightful breakfast

By Janice S |

This is an amazing experience. Love the coffee presentation and huevos rancheros. Friendly fast service.

Good coffee and cake terrible service.

By Shorty4 |

Terrible customer service even for Chicago. When you walk in they is no clear signage to tell you where to order. My daughter ( teenager) went to the wrong end. The employee rudely told her to go to the other side. The guy who took our order mumbled and was not helpful. The coffee was delicious and the cake the same, just do not expect a warm welcome.

Breakfast snack

By Jda A |

Nice place for a quick breakfast snack. Small plates with great dessert opinions for all tastes. The smoothie was delicious and a nice size.

Very good macchiato

By Brad 🇭🇰 |

There are a handful of Goddess and the Baker cafes around the city including this place on Wabash Ave. in downtown. This is a neat little place with some good looking bakery items and food orders. I popped in recently for a quick macchiato stop and was very happy with what was served. This was a double espresso, bold with full body and a slightly sharp finish, tempered perfectly with a touch of milk and foam. An all around very good macchiato and caffeine boost needed after a few hours of sightseeing. Would gladly stop by this and other Goddess and Baker places for coffee based on this experience and would be interested in a bite to eat as well based on what they were serving to other patrons during my visit.

Yummy food and good service

By Shampeu |

We had a yummy breakfast here. The best was the strawberry and banana waffle. It was cooked perfectly and included more fruit than I would have expected. The Impossible Breakfast Sandwich was disappointing, My husband said that it needed a sauce and different bread to make it really tasty. The prices here are not outrageous for the city.

Trendy coffee spot

By Liz S |

Great spot for coffee and breakfast. The breakfast sandwiches and oatmeal are delicious.Service is fast. Decor and ambiance is spot on for downtown Chicago. The only complaint I have is that the music is WAY too loud. You can't hold a conversation. It's easier to sit outside and talk over the traffic and subway noise.

Great food on the go

By Michele W |

Really good quick, cheap lunch. I had the southwest salad with smoked salmon, and it was fabulous. The veggies were crispy, the salmon was fresh, and the dressing to salad ratio was perfect.

Great Breakfast

By WorldTravelerCO |

We enjoyed breakfast here both mornings during our short visit to Chicago. Delicious coffee and pastries, prompt friendly service.

TERRIBLE service

By TennesseeGypsee |

My SO and I ordered and sat down. He was promptly served his coffee and breakfast. I wasn't served anything. For TWENTY minutes. As other customers who arrived after us were served what I had ordered, I finally went up and inquired about my tea and meal. Two women who looked like they could not care less about service, looked at me blankly and didn't say a thing! I asked again if I could at least get my tea. One woman finally moved and brought that out. TEN minutes later my breakfast arrived (well after my SO had finished eating) my breakfast was placed on my table without a word. While the food was fine, it was not worth $32 for two simple breakfasts and coffee/tea. Not with the surly attitude!

Very enjoyable

By SeeTheW0rld62 |

We had breakfast here for the first time and enjoyed it. I had the scrambled egg croissant with turkey bacon, my husband had the breakfast sandwich and a latte,, and our daughter had huevos rancheros. My croissant sandwich was very good. The croissant was flaky and the there was plenty of egg. I'm not a bacon fan but the turkey bacon was flavorful. My husband liked his sandwich but he couldn't really taste the bacon because there wasn't much of it. The sandwich was quite large with eggs, avocado and cheese. Our daughter liked her huevos rancheros although she asked them not to put sour cream on top but they did anyhow.

great menu, love the pride

By Ann S |

I love this place and look forward to eating there every time I am visiting Chicago. This time I have a few critiques, though. I tried ordering advance online and it didn't go so well. I didn't realize that you have to ask at the counter for your food, so I was waiting a while. Even though I mentioned to the cashier that I was waiting for my order, he didn't indicate that I had to ask for it at the other counter. (I thought prepared orders would be sitting on the counter. My mistake.) The second time I ordered online my sister went to pick it up and they didn't include one of the drinks and we had to go back for it. So- maybe it's best to eat there so the food and drinks are piping hot? The desserts look SO beautiful and are hard to resist. The ones I selected this time were not as tasty as I expected. The muffins were dry. I managed to eat them anyway! The London Fog latte is yummy as is the Bourbon Pecan latte with oat milk

Happy breakfast

By Evelize W |

Delicious service, environment with a garden and quiet environment, healthy and tasty food. I recommend and will be back!

Great for a quick, healthy, high quality lunch

By Midlifetrippin |

Great spot for coffee, tea, baked goods, or a mea. Walk up service is friendly and efficient. Food served with a smile and of high quality. Good selection of sandwiches, salads, and soups. Also offers wine and some cocktails as well as gelato. Really an all-around simple place to grab a high quality and fair priced breakfast, lunch, or midday snack.

Forget about Starbucks

By Johnny Trekkie |

Forget about Starbucks...it's all about the Goddess when you're in Chicago! I loved the modern retro look of the place. There will probably be a line, but it does move fairly quickly, and the wait is worth it! As you get closer, you'll get to seem dozens of temptations in the form of pastries. Sweet or savory, they're all delectable and delicious! Two visits, I had the Parmesan Spinach Pastry, Bacon Cheddar Scone, Chocolate Croissant, and Almond Croissant...all wonderful! Each is about $5. Regular coffee is just fine. I didn't get a chance to try any of the hot breakfast entrees unfortunately, maybe next time.r

Delicious and Comfortable Breakfast & Lunch Cafe

By Angela B |

Delicious drinks and eats! My husband enjoyed a traditional macchiato and I enjoyed their iced strawberry matcha lattes. We had breakfasts and lunches there a few times. My husband enjoyed the sunrise burrito and the naan sandwich. I had the egg & turkey bacon croissant breakfast sandwich and the chipotle wrap with chicken. I also enjoyed the fruit and oatmeal crunch bowl. Wonderful service, delicious food and good location.

The pasties looked as good as they tasted

By bmwdiscman |

Breakfast was very good and they had plenty of seating both indoors and out. The pastries are the stars but lunch and breakfast food was spot on. The do not take cash so have credit card in hand.

Nice breakfast stop

By nooner59 |

Stopped in October 17, 2019, based on TA recommendations (& Yelp!) Good food & coffee, city prices. It was bright, busy, & noisy but we enjoyed it. I would be a regular if I lived/worked around here, but as a visitor, I'll likely try some of the other amazing-looking food venues in the vicinity.

Great, great cafe with good food, good coffee and tea, and atmosphere

By Heliodorus |

Breakfast at the Goddess is a ritual when I visit my son. Personally I love the elderberry and honey latte and the avocado toast (no matter how trendy). The cookies and cakes are just gorgeous. Nice space to talk, dine and hang out. Very nice staff. And people of all ages come in--families, students, and a few people like me with grey hair.

Every bite is a delightful experience

By Sarah C |

A fantastic spot for a speedy breakfast or snack. They offer a variety of small dishes with dessert options that cater to diverse preferences. I particularly enjoyed their smoothie—it was both refreshing and generously portioned. The selection of desserts was impressive, providing something to satisfy every palate. The cozy atmosphere made it a pleasant place to enjoy a quick bite. Overall, it’s an excellent choice for a tasty and satisfying start to the day.

Cute Cafe/Bakery in Chicago

By Shanelle |

A cute bakery that’s known for its rainbow cake and drinks. It’s in downtown Chicago so it was a quick walk there from our hotel. You order at the counter and take a tracker, and they will deliver it to your table. There’s outdoor and indoor seating. I got the Vietnamese iced coffee and my friend got the black honey Japanese matcha latte. Both were very good and ~$5/6. The Vietnamese iced coffee has condensed milk and is very sweet. The caffeine kick isn’t as strong as I’d like and there was a lot of ice, but I enjoyed it. I liked my friend’s latte more - it’s made with almond milk and was less sweet than mine but it was a good mix of the match and honey. We also split a matcha cupcake with strawberry frosting which was really good. The frosting was light and delicately-flavored and the cake was subtly flavored of matcha. It also had almond slivers baked into the body which added a nice contrast to the softness of the cake. There is water you can self-serve and I liked that it comes in room temp distilled, sparking, and cold distilled water. You put your plates away and throw away your own trash after you’re done. There are gender neutral bathrooms that can accommodate a wheelchair. There is free WiFi. Overall a really cute bakery that also had breakfast/lunch options. I’d come here again for an afternoon tea or coffee plus dessert.

Great coffee, great breakfast, not expensive

By Chrisco01 |

Loved this place so much, we ate there 5 mornings in a row. Why? Staying at a hotel across the street and always prefer to patronize locals over chains, or hotel food. Their barista is very good, their cappuccino was delicious. Also ate four different breakfast items on consecutive days. Favorite was the breakfast sandwich. Very friendly, very tasty food, great coffees.

Busy but good

By BethChicago |

Visited on a Sunday. Line was out the door and no seating available but we grabbed a bench outside and ate in our laps. The coffee is very good and we shared the breakfast sandwich with bacon, avocado, egg and a delicious tomatillo sauce on a sesame seeded bread. I was very very good. We did not sample any of the desserts but witnessed a few being served and the looked wonderful. I will go back to try them very soon.

Very Small! - No cocktails

By Debbie D |

I had looked at the website and thought it was larger. We walked here for lunch and there was no place to sit inside or out. People just linger looking at their phones. Our group of four eventually got 3 barstools. I had the super seed salad. It was good. Nothing special. The miso dressing was hardly discernible. The macha strawberry drink that I had was fabulous. I had never had macha before. We had planned on cocktails but they no longer serve them. They are still on the menu board and the printed menus. I would prefer a bit better organization but it doesn't seem to be hurting their business as it was full everytime we went by there.

Wonderful, fresh, and on-trend

By Debra C |

We ate here multiple times during a recent trip to Chicago, stopping in for breakfast or just a cup of coffee. It is a charming place with a real community feel. The food is very good and there is a wide range of coffee and tea options. I had the oatmeal a couple of times and it was delicious!

Dont Miss This Place!!

By MALUV2Travel |

Have been here 3 times in three days!! Try the lattes, the chicken banh mi sandwich and the carrot cake should not be missed!!!

Delightful coffee, terribly dry baked goods

By SusieLikes2Travel |

We were spending the day in Chicago and decided to dodge into this cute spot for something to warm us up. I took the recommendation of the gal ringing me up and had the Glitter Gold Latte. It was warm, creamy, sweet, and glittery to boot! I loved it! We also ordered the blueberry scone. It was dry and tasteless. I know scones are dry, but this was well beyond normal. After a couple bites we took it up to the counter and exchanged it for a piece of the lemon poppyseed bread. The bread had good flavor, but was also much drier than I expected. We ate it, as we didn’t want to be “those” customers. Overall this is a friendly and fun place to stop in for an afternoon break. I’d highly recommend the Glitter Gold Latte!

Good and healthy option

By fifers89 |

Great place to grab a moderately healthy and fresh lunch. I didn’t get to have a cake but looked amazing. Could be a little hard to get a seat but otherwise good and quite modern

I love this place!

By leah b |

We walked here from our hotel. I enjoyed a breakfast sandwich and Salted Caramel Goddess. We bought the rainbow macarons and Cereal Krispy Bar. Everything was enjoyable. My husband had the Liquid Chocolate Spiced. We enjoyed everything at this location. I would go back every time! They homemade all the baked good and bread. The coffee is rich and full flavored.

experts

By carmen andrea h |

I expected just another café & salads, well the salads were a piece of culinary art, the dressings original and tasty, the people nice and friendly. Tea served in a pot excelent too. And the sandwiches superb.

If you are over 35-40

By Vicky M |

I was only person over 25-30 in this very tiny, fun place. It was recommended on a gluten-free website and from a friend’s college student. Perhaps it is too insta-gramable since it was so overcrowded you could not move. At least 75 pct of the clients had no food or drink in evidence and using their laptops. Coffee was good, GF muffins just OK

Fancy lattes!

By Cec72513 |

Super fun and cute spot for an out of the box quick breakfast experience. Obviously I had to order the glitter gold latte, and they can even add edible glitter to your cold brew! Very large and impressive menu and It was not difficult to find a seat

THE BEST

By Cat |

Best best coffee in Chicago and super nice place to hang out! No faults, good coffee, good food, great service, really the best!

Always worth the wait!

By Tiffany L |

One of our favorite places for breakfast and coffee when we visit. Come early they’ll be a line but it moves quickly. Lots of options for gluten free and vegan. Everything we’ve never tried has been homemade tasting and wonderful. Some of the coffee beverages come with a special treat!

Perfect for Your Morning Coffee Run!

By Alison M |

I was on TA and realized that, despite how I went here everyday while in Chicago, I had yet to write a review on it! My mom and I were in Chicago for the first week of October 2020 and I needed a coffee shop (preferably local/small business) that I could run over to in the morning for coffee/tea and some bites to eat. Did some research before we arrived and this place caught my attention. Mainly the pictures of that rainbow cake, but it was also only about 10 minutes from us! As I mentioned above, I went here every morning and got morning fixings for my mom and I. Latte with 2% for her, and I eventually settled on the matcha latte with almond milk. Definitely some of the best matcha I have ever had, and I am a matcha snob. It can't be too sweet, but I also don't want it tasting like grass. I usually can't trust cafes to make it without putting too much sweetener in it, but here they do it RIGHT. Just a subtle hit of honey is all it needs. For food, THANK GOD FOR THAT AVOCADO TOAST! My mom is difficult when it comes to breakfast: she doesn't like anything sweet and she doesn't like eggs... so what else is left? Their AMAZING avocado toast. Sourdough slathered in smashed avocado, crisp greens, and cotija cheese. Needless to say, she loved it, and she loved it every single morning when I would bring it to her in our Airbnb. For me, I had something different every day. A sandwich one day, protein bowl the next, some salad another time, however my favorite dish I tried had to be the huevos rancheros. As a frequent visitor of Mexico, huevos rancheros are something I eat on the regular while I'm there. Crunchy tostadas with a delicious red sauce and chorizo mixture, topped with a fried egg? Yum! My only regret is I wish I ordered it more. Oh, and how could I forget the pastries? I remember the absolute first day I went here, after I paid I stood off to the side, right where all of those freshly baked pastries are on full-display. Cupcakes, cookies, muffin, cakes, croissants, morning buns, you name it they got it. So what did I do after five minutes of staring at an adorable vanilla cupcake with rainbow sprinkles?.... I got right back in line and bought that cupcake... along with a to-go serving of chia seed pudding that I was eyeballing (also delicious). And yes, I did end up buying a slice of that rainbow cake. I ate it on my flight back to San Francisco, where food was not served, and it hit the SPOT. One pro-tip: Get here early. This place gets busy FAST. I recommend an hour after they open LATEST, earlier if you want to sit inside. But overall, a true gem in downtown Chicago.

Cramped and crowded but very good food

By Zesmith |

Initially I was more negative in my review - tried to order a simple bowl of oatmeal and they didn’t have it because it was 2 minutes after 11- and how hard is it to make some more...... I went down to the corner bakery and ate there. That being said my Daughter and Wife stayed and loved the food and wanted to go back again this morning. It was very crowded and not much seating again but my food was very good. My Wife and daughter would eat here every day if they could. I’d prefer more quiet and less crowds but for those that are patient and don’t mind being packed in it’s a pretty happening place. The cookies are really good too.

Lively fresh food

By adambright2000 |

Very busy and hip. I had Vietnamese cold brew and it was excellent. I also had a turkey sandwich with avocado and it was the best turkey sandwich I have ever had. I will definitely eat here again!

Coffee snob

By Mark J |

While staying in the loop area of Chicago with the family we, as we always do, looked for a local coffee purveyor that is not Starbucks. The Goddess and the Baker fit the bill to a tee. Not only is the coffee first rate but the baked goods - well don't go if your on a diet. The breakfast and other sandwiches were made to order and worth the wait, not prepackaged and microwaved. Look to pay a bit more but for quality.

How hard is it to order a cup of tea?!

By issy377 |

Apparently extremely if you visit here!! They give you a buzzer which if goes off they take off you but don’t give you your drink.. then they proceed to not be able to find you with said drink because they’ve already taken your buzzer! And then when you ask for milk they try to charge you for it before telling you to get it yourself! Talk about over complicating a system! It’s either table service or not! Absolutely ridiculous! Sort it out! It’s not that hard every other coffee shop manages it!!

Love the name- the ambiance, service and food are all spectacular.

By traveltheworld012 |

This place by Millennium Park is also only 1-1/2 blocks from our hotel, the Palmer House. We liked it the first time (08/25/25, my birthday) and came back again (08/26/25). The ambiance here is very nice, easy going, yet the staff are friendly and efficient. The system works well. You place your order, pay, then they give you an electronic gizmo with a number on it. They can then easily track you down and bring your food order to your table. It works great and service is fast. The first morning I had the Impossible Breakfast Sandwich. The second morning I had the Morning Sandwich. Both were delicious, but I have to say the first was the best. Coffee is great, buy it in two different sizes, but it doesn't really matter, because you fill the cup yourself and can easily refill as much as you want. I guess the sizes matter if it is to go. The only real downside, is that the L Train goes by right outside the door about every 5 minutes and it is LOUD!. They have outdoor seating too, almost right under the train. I guess it is something one gets used to...like all big city noise. One could say the train is part of the ambiance... ya think?

Amazing cupcakes

By Steve |

This is our fav place for breakfast or just a coffee and treat. The cupcakes are super delicious. Really really good cappuccinos too. Friendly staff.

Trendy, whimsical, all-inclusive, a little pricey

By AHW676 |

This seems to be the place to go if you want coffee and any breakfast involving smashed avocados. We had an avocado toast upgraded with smoked salmon and an order of huevos rancheros. Both were good. The avocado toast makes a much more substantial looking breakfast, being piled high with fresh arugula. The coffee is fresh and hot, and there is a full array of condiments for the coffee on a separate table. The restaurant vibe is trendy and whimsical. The main theme of the restaurant is its rainbow, all-inclusive theme, up to the point of donating to a local shelter for buying one of their rainbow treats. I will say that the patrons at the restaurant that morning looked like a typical mix of anyone at a coffee house on a weekday morning—people dining alone, couples, and one family, so not necessarily just targeted to an alternate lifestyle. The pricing was a little high, but this might be typical of a Chicago coffee house—two breakfast entrees and two coffees were $38.

Good Food, Indifferent Service

By Jason B |

So, to qualify the score, i should point out that the place was very busy when we visited. The coffee itself was pretty good and the croissant was ok. Breakfast sandwich was good. What I most focused on was the service. During our 55 minute wait for our breakfast (we were told 25 minutes), I encountered some friendly service as well as some quite indifferent service, particularly with the order takers. It seems to be fairly common occurence in Chicago as we encountered it frequently in our visit to the city. Not helpful and speaking very quickly when giving information, and then overpromising on the wait time to top it off, made the customer experience abysmal. After all that, it is difficult to give this restaurant any better than an average score.

Nice baked goods

Goddess and the Baker Bakery (Location: Millennium Park- 33 Wabash) is a delightful upbeat bustling place to have light breakfast, quality snack or goodie. The vibe in here is fun and casual. Try their signature “Cruffin” or any of their huge variety of breakfast treats! They are all top drawer baked fresh and wholesome. The warmed blueberry muffin I had was full of premium large soft berries. The batter was deliciously moist and dense. Decorated cookies, brownies, cakes and cake slices, croissants. They have a variety of it all for everyone. The coffee was brewed fresh, hot and had no bitter aftertaste. Don’t settle for the mundane breakfast, cup of coffee or old treat at the other places. This place doesn’t disappoint as baked goods ARE fit for a Goddess as the name implies!

Excellent for breakfast and brunch.

This place is excellent for breakfast and brunch. A wide selection of both sweet, cold and warm dishes. There pastries are delicious and sandwiches/bagels and warm dishes are all well presented. The atmosphere is fresh, modern and gives a clean impression.

We’ve been here several times and for us, it the original Goddess and the Baker. When we’re in town, it’s usually for a snow and a few nights and this is where we go for coffee and a lite bite. Enjoy

What a Great Find

We happened upon this place walking around the downtown area; what a great find! I had the liquid chocolate buzz and a piece of the decadent carrot cake. All of the baked goods on display looked amazing! The carrot cake had a great presentation and it was moist and delicious! The liquid chocolate was pure bliss. I can't wait to visit again!
