The bbq pork steamed buns were disappointing, yes it was a big bun but unfortunately too doughy š the only dim sum was great was the prawn dumplings. Not really worth the wait.

Although the line could be long, it goes quickly. If you want, you could always pre-order and go in to pick it up. The dumplings are big and the chicken and pork buns are huge. A plus is that the employees speak English, so if you want a particular item that you don't see, you can ask for it.

The quality of the food is excellent and the best value for money in SF. Fresh, tasty and generous. I know itās all about turn over but is it too much to ask to be polite and helpful?

We knew there was usually a line around the block for this place because friends gave us a heads up. We arrived when they opened and had sort of an idea of what we wanted (I messed our ordering up slightly as Iām pescatarian and it can be a pain) so the staff were not impressed we were holding people up to figure things out but other customers jumped right in to help and were SO kind, the people and the food made the whole experience incredible.

Went for a short walk to collect the yummy food and returned to my hotel to feast. For $15 had a filling breakfast for 2 with a variety of choices. About 15 pieces between the 2 of us. Well feed and much cheaper than the hotel buffet. Every gald I discovered this bakery. But allot of finger pointing to get my selection of food.

Located at 1039 Stockton in Chinatown! Locals and tourists stood in line. Sadly they ran out of dumplings 2 people ahead of us and steamed charsiu buns at 3:30pm. Go early! Steamed Bao, Baked Bao, dumplings, Rice Cake, tea cookies, Lupcheong in steamed bun. pineapple bread, shumai and fried noodles filled this tiny home in the wall. Steamed pork & vegetable buns were so Yummy! The shumai smelled delightful and will be devoured soon!!!

The place had good Shrimp Ha-Gow and Pork Shu-mai steamed dumplings. There are 3 steamed dumplings per order. The baked and steamed BBQ Pork Buns were very good too. I took my friend and she loved it all. The woman waiting on us was rude and impatient and you better know what you want to order and how much you want. Don't try to ask questions. There is a big following as you can see with the long lines on the weekend.

The lines at this dim sum shop seem to get longer each time we come back. It took half an hour this time to get our order. The counter was a bit chaotic with multiple customers and servers shouting or confirming orders, freshly made dim sum being restocked as empty trays left, and deliveries of bulk flour, sugar and to go containers happening all at the same time. All the menu items were posted right behind the counter with prices about half of those charged in a dim sum sit down restaurant. Small orders were oacked in plastic baggies while bigger ones we placed inside plastic containers Unfortunately not everything we wanted was available that time but what we did order was worth the wait and trouble. The har gao and chive dumplings contained big and plump shrimps, the siu mai and āsharks finā pork dumplings were large and juicy and the steamed pork buns were big and filled with a good amount of char sui. . They accept both cash and credit cards. Big plastic bags to hold all your orders cost 10 cents. Because of the wait and lack of items we wanted I only gave this place a four circles.

So good and so inexpensive! This is going to be a go to do us when we come to San Francisco from now on. Delicious Dim Sum all the way around. I highly recommend! There is no seating so itās a grab and go kind of deal. No wonder there was a line to get in but it moved very fast.

Grabbed bao, noodles and siu mai a couple of times here while visiting. Mostly locals. The siu Mai are huge. The char siu bao are gigantic and flavorful. Both times waited less than 10 minutes in line. Once early, 0830. Other time later 10:30. Fast, cheap way to get your dim sum on if your on the go. Highly recommend!

Every time I am in SFO, I fight jet lag to walk here and have yummy dim sum for breakfast. They open at 7am and the lines get long fast. You are lucky if you get to talk to anyone who speaks English though. Anyway, be ready with your pointer finger. Everything weāve have tried so far are delicious.

This was a place the residents eat at. You better know what you want before you walk in, or at least be willing to try multiple items. We ordered shrimp dumplings, pork dumplings, Bbq steamed bun, pineapple bun and doughnut. Way too much food but very good and under $15.00

I have never had such amazing dumplings in all my life. They have A LOT of choise, there are really all kinds of dumplings and big buns for all the tastes. This place is located in Chinatown and it's always full of people. But it's worth it. Really, you have absolutely to go!! It was a revelation.

Delicious and crazy cheap. Fun, authentic experience. Only counter service so you can either eat your meal while walking around Chinatown, which was actually pretty easy to do, or go to a nearby park to sit and eat. Highly recommend.

Quick and dirty snack in Chinatown of San Francisco. Something YOU Must get. 1. Steamed Veggie Pork Bun 2. Sesame balls 3. Wrap Lotus leaves Sweet Rice a.k.a Lo mai gai 4. Big Chicken Steamed Bun 5. Wife Cake... and of course their giants dim sum...

The prices are great and the size of the pieces really big! The Har Gow (shrimp dumplings) were definitely over stuffed!! We went at 9am on a Saturday (they opened at 7am) and the Sesame Balls were still steaming.

I had some dim sum at this restaurant while visiting San Francisco. This is the best dim sum I have ever had. Priced reasonably for $5 I got two shrimp dumplings, two shu mai and two shark fin. Line is long but it moves quick. Know what you want before you go in and pay cash. Canāt miss this if you like dim sum.

After a long wait in line, they were already out of some items and we later discovered that they got our order wrong and what we did receive wasnāt very good.

My wife and I have had Dim Sum in SF Chinatown several years at another restaurant and preferred the food and service to the Good Mong Kok Bakery. I have also had Dim Sum in Indonesia and Hawaii both were superior.

I found this place online based on high reviews. We tried to go the first day but the line was too long so we moved on. We came back our last day in town and decided to wait in the line, which was even longer than the first day. We found other people waiting in line just because they saw the line and figured it must be good. After an HOUR wait we finally got our chance to order. The pricing was cheap but seemed like they kind of just pulled a number from the air based on the amount you ordered. And the food was good, I mean sure. But it wasn't worth the hour wait. We definitely had better on our trip. It was unique and fun to try so many different things. We ordered way too much and ended up giving the huge bag of left overs to some homeless who were nearby us. I would recommend going here if the line is reasonable. Otherwise I would move on. I will say the teenage girls loved saying they ate shark fin, even though I'm sure that was just the shape of the pastry and not actually made with shark meat. And their other favorite was the sugared doughnut. I loved the scallion bread. Delicious and soft. Definitely go here if the line is short, it doesn't move super fast.

There is better places this place for sure in Chinatown, lady was so rude when asking if she had more pineapple bun. Literally thats the last place i wanna visit ever againā¦..

First trip to SF, I took my little piece of paper full of suggestions for Chinatown, and when my husband noticed, "There's a line; must be good," I looked up to see we had indeed landed at the Good Mong Kok Bakery. The line moved quickly and soon I was carrying a large bag of differently named Dim Sum treats out the door--all for a little under $8! Delicious for lunch, leftover dinner, and again the next day! We tried the pork, the vegetable and the custard. All good. I don't remember inside seating... just purchase and take with you, I believe.

This take out bakery had a line when I approached at midday. Everything looked delicious. I do not eat pork or shellfish. I opted for chicken shumai and scallion roll. We also ordered the sugar donuts yummy š

I wouldn't go here again, I honestly couldn't see why it was listed in Fodor's Travel Guide. There was a long line that moved very slow. The woman from the next store kept coming out and asking everyone to move from her doorway therefore blocking the sidewalk traffic. She was quite rude. The staff in the Good Mong Kok Bakery are not friendly. I can confirm they handle your dirty money and your food without changing their gloves. The food was so-so, by the time you find a place to sit and eat, your meal is cold. Pretty much the entire Chinatown in SF has turned me off Chinese food. But yes, the food is cheap.

The best dim sum place in SF. My wife and I have tried at least 25 different dim sum places in SF. So far this one is the best. Love it!!!!! Highly recommend it !!!

This place is the Asian dim sum version of Seinfeld's soup nazi in NYC. The food is amazing and of course it tastes even better because of the incredibly low prices. We tried this place out due to the positive Yelp reviews. We were not disappointed with the food quality- only disappointed with them running out of our favorite dish- the shrimp "crepes." We were visiting on a family vacation and came here two consecutive days and both days- no crepes. "No crepe for you!" Although in reality I was just told..."no more today..." in broken English, I felt the same disappointment as Jerry experienced after being told..."No soup for you!" The Asian guy behind the counter was very kind.... unlike the Seinfeld counterpart. He seemed disappointed in me for not being able to communicate with him in Cantonese or Mandarin since although I look Chinese, I don't speak the language. Oh well... This place is very basic. No computers... I don't even think I saw a cash register, only a simple calculator and a notebook for keeping the books. If you are in the area try this place out for the food and the experience... we were able to feed our family of 5 for under $30. The food quality was good and portion sizes large. If you want to make sure you get the crepes you might need to go earlier or else "No crepe for you too!"

This is a take away place, not a restaurant. The food is out of this world and so inexpensive. You know you are in the right place when you see local lining up. Expect a long line as this place is very popular. Highly recommend their dim sum Shrimp dumplings Pork dumplings Scallion bread Sesame balls

This is the place everybody talks about, right in the middle of the Main Street with a queue constantly, served quickly without a smile, food was good but place is pretty chaotic

Possibly the worst service I have ever received. The lady serving was extremely rude. Ordered some bbq pork buns and the chunks of fat were big, couldnāt eat it. Would not recommend.

Loved most of the food we bought, the highlights were the siopao, siomai, and shrimp dumplings. Actually wish we bought more. The real challenge her is the language barrier, since not all the people at the counter can speak English properly. You have to come in knowing what you want or just make do with pointing and paying.

Itās the worst service I received when I travel around the world. They treat you like animals, for the sake of your dignity, do not get into this restaurant!

Checked here on TripAdviser for best places to eat in China town SF, and picked this place. Desired the pork dumplings everybody wrote about, just to find out they were sold out... Second choice, beef, was sold out too. We ended up with chicken. True, they are large and cheap, but not exceptional in taste. If everybody comes for these pork delicacies, maybe the owners could make them in larger quantities. Hope to have better luck next time.

Great, authentic Chinese bakery offering a variety of buns and dumplings at an extremely reasonable price. That said, the staff was quite rude to non-Chinese speakers which detracted from the experience.

Excellent and cheap. We look for it based on reviews from here. A good snack for a family of 4 on $20 before heading to the airport.

Fantastic dim sum. So much to choose from.all delicious. They are absolutely massive too....biggest I have ever seen.

There is a long line for this tiny bakery. Not everything I wanted were available. But they were absolutely delicious. The shrimp dumplings, shark fin dumplings, carrot cakes, and egg custards were so good. The crust of the egg custards were so special compared to others. These were the largest dim sum I've ever had in the US. If you don't mind the walk in China town, it's worth your visit. Plus, the price is so reasonable. This store takes credit card under $10. You can take a short walk to the union square and enjoy your dim sum delights!

I'm not sure a place can be hidden with a line of people out the door, but this unassuming chinatown shop delivers great buns and dumplings. Highly recommend the pork buns, bean buns, and shrimp dumplings.

went here expecting a good night with some lads and some beers all i got was poo chicken and horrid sweet and sour sauce, tasted like the misses on a Sunday night and holy she is rank

The line is long and they run out around 2 pm! Get there early and load up on the best Dim Sum to go! I had the BBQ Pork Bun and it was scrumptious!

There are many good reviews of this place so we tried the shrimp dumplings and Shumai. However, we found a piece of steel wire in one of the Shumai, looks like from the steel sponge. We threw away the rest of the food.

This are some of the biggest, most delicious yet cheapest dumplings I've ever eaten. The shu mai were massive and the prawn dumplings were also big with plump juicy prawns. Got 6 dumplings and 2 crepe rolls for $6.80! Such a bargain. The line moves quickly and the menu is in English too. This place is a real find!

Want some comfort food badly after my three weeks South America trip , this dim sum take away is perfect ! The shrimp dumpling is perfect but siu mai is so so as itās too big and end up it likes a meatball rather than a siu mai ! The pastry of chiu chow fun guo is too thick too !

Visited in the late afternoon, so the choices were limited. I ordered shrimp dumplings, pork shui mai and cha sui (pork bbq) bun. Delicious but at a very accessable price. The only negative thing is that the staff are not so friendly. I understand that they are trying to be as efficient as possible. It would be better to visit in the morning to have more choices.

Always a line and there is a reason for it. The best place for Baked Char Siu Bow. Excellent pork and chicken Siu Mai. The gin dui are also very good. Service is quick but you better know what you want. All the Dim Sum is freshly made and delicious. Get there early for the best selection.

This place was recommended by a Youtuber so I decided to try this out. I have tried dimsum all over Asia but I am always willing to try new places. The har gow (shrimp dumplings) and egg custard tart are some of the best I had in the city. The other items I tried are shui mai, steam bbq bun, shark fin dumpling, are just average. The place is tiny and people are almost next to each other trying to put their order in. I would suggest go early if there is specific item you would like to try.

They have a menu. And you can point at what u want. They pack it up. It was great. Husband liked the pork bun and I absolutely loved the shrimp dumplings. And the price is right. Saw the locals go in, so we decided to try it. Glad the hubby was willing to be adventuresome.

Stopped her to grab lunch. Yes there will be a line on the street but itās worth it. The baked and steamed barbecue buns were big and flavorful. The shumai were also tasty. The pineapple buns were definitely the highlight though. The best Iāve ever tried. Big portions for low prices. No area to eat but the park isnāt a too far walk.

WOW, We were so glad we found this little gem. No frills, walk up only, but worth every minute in line! We visited twice in 4 days it was so good! We tried the crispy duck, steamed pork buns, Sesame balls and shrimp dumplings. All just wonderful and so very inexpensive! Go early for best selection!

This bakery makes amazing dim sum. The dumplings and bao are huge and stuffed with meat, beans, etc. the prices are terrific also. Our family of four ate for $21 and we were stuffed! This is a carry out bakery only, but there is a park about 3-4 blocks away to take your dim sum and eat there. Try the char siu bao - seriously, itās the best ever!!

Never had dim sum ever, picked this placed because of reviews and price. My 11 year old and I got regular shrimp dumplings (good), shrimp and chive dumplings (best!), steamed pork bun (they were out of bbq), fried meat bun (just ok at first, but much better with soy sauce) and a giant almond cookie for a whole $7.00! We ate it all but were stuffed after. She loved it and it was fun trying something new. We went around 1pm, no line. I already knew what to order so I tried to be quick and was rewarded with an extra shrimp dumpling! No place to eat but I already knew that and we walked 5 minutes to Portsmouth Square to eat and people watch. Let my kid play on the playground after and fed the pigeons some cookie. Really fun day in Chinatown!

The most incredible Shrimp Dumplings I have ever eaten. The Sesame Balls were huge and delicious, the Shu Mai were melt in your mouth. Wow - what a find!

Quality is A+. Fresh shui mai and buns one after the other. I went on a Saturday morning and encounter no line. I can imagine the place being hectic and they speak very limited English. So, like in some recent review I read, if you are offended by how you are treated, you should try going to the street markets in Guangzhou or Beijing and then we can talk: street food is a beast of its own kind and itās worth it. Try as much as you can!

Good Mong Kok Bakery has the best take out dim sum in San Francisco! Cash only!!! There is a line but it moves fast and go to YELP to visualize the dumplings. Very inexpensive and big dumplings. Get the fried dim sum in the window case and sesame balls. Order shrimp and chive and baked pork buns and steamed chicken buns. EVERYTHING is delicious. Enjoy this jewel in beautiful city.

Canāt work out why anyone would complain about this place - simply world class dim sum to take away. I took away a good sized container with more than enough dim sum and a pastry, and it set me back just eight bucks. They have a very healthy queue and the level of spoken English is not great. So find a friendly person in the queue and ask them which is which in terms of the dim sum and buns, the advice turned out to be very helpful. Absolutely topper! Miles better dim sum than I have eaten elsewhere.

I arrived at 7:45 on a Friday morning. No line! Ordered shu mai, shrimp dumplings and the chow mein. Was easy to do in English. Paid less than 10 bucks. Got a bag and a fork, turned left out the door and left at the first intersection. Found some nice marble ledges at the Chinese hospital to sit at, eat and watch the grandmas and school kids go by. The flavors are not super strong, but so good. Had more than I could possibly eat. What a great experience! The best way to breakfast in SF!!!!!!

Food is really good like everyone says. Always a Long line up but goes pretty quick. A cheap meal on the go.

I was excited to try this place after reading lots of glowing reviews only to find average food. Actually, the shrimp dumplings were great. But some of the Dim Sum was quite subpar, like the ShuMai. They even looked ugly. But the reviews and lady in front of me sweared otherwise. Yuck! The Bay Buns were NOT ample and were too sweet with not enough pork. We were a little ill after eating this repast. Not worth it. Subsequently, visited other places that were much better.

Thereās a line to wait and thereās no seating so youāll have to walk and eat but itās so worth it. We got the baked bbq pork buns (which are really big) and then some kind of steamed pork meatball/dumpling that was delicious as well.

Small well known shop in the middle of Chinatown. Stop in for some delectable treats at a very good affordable price. Take away only and cash only at the time we were there.

The dim sum is delicious! The pastries are big so think about that when you order. I got a Chinese donut and vegetable and pork roll. Highly recommend this bakery if your in Chinatown or craving dim sum. Itās a little chaotic inside so you donāt have a lot of time to decide what you want so I recommend going in already knowing.

There was a little wait with line out the door. The place is small but the line moves quickly. The shrimp & BBQ pork dim sum are killer. The price is right It is a little whole in the wall not fancy. I will definitely stop here again.

Errrrrything is good and large. Dumplings are bigger than normal dumplings. Steamed buns are huge and fluffy. I was disappointed I couldnāt get the pork, I hear thatās awesome but the chicken is fine. Shrimp dumplings were divine and the sesame ball was huge and yummy. I was overstuffed and paid $5.20.

After trying a couple of sit down restaurants that were unexpectedly closed, my wife and I walked around Chinatown and saw a long line outside this place. Very affordable. We enjoyed the BBQ Pork buns. Shrimp dumplings were ok. In hindsight, I wild we ordered more.

I (in my 50s) brought my two 20-something employees here to pick up lunch. Neither had anything so foreign or old school as (gasp) cash. Yeah, okay, Iāll pay. Bao, lots of bao, shrimp rolls, chicken dumplings and three giant donuts. $20.50. Um⦠what??!! Amazing food. People commented about cleanliness. I didnāt see dirt so much as age. Also, letās address the insect concern. ITS SAN FRANCISCO. You could drop a nuclear bomb on the city that makes Hiroshima look like a little flash of starlight and the cockroaches would be like, āI love a good suntan!ā If you canāt either handle it or at least block it from your consciousness donāt go to the city. Itās great food.

This was such a great culinary experience! Zipped down to Chinatown during lunch break and had to wait in line for about 25 minutes before ordering but it was well worth it. The BBQ pork buns were delicious and the shrimp dumplings too. Can't believe the prices either, so inexpensive for the quality of the food!

Loved the whole experience... waiting in line, pointing to the dumplings, the never-once-smiled attendants! It was all great. We took our take out a few blocks away to Portsmouth Square and loved our picnic out of the container. (we over-ordered and still spent less than $20!) Our favorites were the pork boa, the pork shumai, the green onion and sesame pancake and the shrimp dumplings.

This place is a gem. If you want tasty dim sum at a great price, look no further. Every thing we ate (shu mai, shrimp dumplings, baked char shiu bun, baked scallion roll, noodles) was super good and for the price, you just can't beat it. Line can be a bit long but goes quick. We ate here twice in 3 days!

This was my first time having Dim Sum in SF and after drooling over the endless options, I chose this bakery. The line was long, but things move quickly so I definitely recommend figuring out what you want while you're waiting. Some really delicious pastries and huge dumplings. I enjoyed it all, just gave it four stars because the shumai and dumplings, although well cooked, could've been tastier, in my opinion.

I visited the place a few month ago and I went back for another taste This time I picked up the staff and went back to the hotel to eat which is much more comfortable than eating in the street I have ordered many types and in total had maybe 10 total I really liked the shrimp the chives the pork and there is a big one with a mix which was excellent The total was 12$ which and what I ordered is enough for at least 2 people

Iāve had dim sum maybe three other times. This place is a hole in the wall with a line that goes out the door and down the street. That should tell you itās popular. The problem with places like this is you may not know what to get, so try new things. This is a good inexpensive place to experiment

This place is amazing! Plain and simple. Go to this place for great Dim Sum or Dumpling or Shu Mai. All are out of this world! This place is wonderful! You canāt eat there so have a place to go and eat. Ask for a napkin or/and fork! I cannot say enough over this place! Go here, donāt judge the outside, just go in and order! Very cheap too btw!

Tried this place after ready reviews online. It's a takeout out dim sum place where the portion size of the Sui mai is very good 3 large pieces. Tried Har gou, steamed BBQ pork bun, baked BBQ pork bun and a cocktail bun. All very good except my daughter complained that there was very little coconut filling in her bun. Good value 5 buns with the Sui mai and Har gou came to $10. Would recommend trying. They do get busy and there can be a long line outside.

We visited this place in October. There was a queue outside so you need to know what you want as the staff will not help you much and just want to get to the next customer as soon as possible. It is worth bearing with this as the food is fantastic. I had a pulled pork bun that was fantastic and the dim sum was very tasty. There are other options but everything we had was great.

I had a very disappointing sit-down meal at a nearby tea house which gets good reviews on Google. After I left the tea house, I walked over to GMK and got myself a BBQ porn bun and a shui-mai. Both were delicious and probably 1/3-1/2 of the price of what theyād cost at the mediocre tea house. I highly recommend coming here if you donāt mind eating yummy dim sum while walking.

It was very nerve racking to stand in line for 15 minutes unable to see the menu until you enter the bakery. I was in charge of ordering for myself, my husband and 3 kids that were weary of going into this restaurant and trying something new. The lady that took my order summed me up in a heartbeat and told me to point to what I wanted. This wasnāt my first time doing Dim Sum but my pronunciation is rather pathetic. So I did point and was thankful. I ordered: 3 Siopao 3 (came in group of 3) shrimp dumplings? 3 (came in group of 3) chicken Siomai All were delicious ... and it was a total of $16!! I read and saw that you could take credit card ā but I think it would be best to have cash. The pace is fast and they are not going to let a customer slow them down ā itās exactly what you want from this type of experience :-).

if you are ready to wait 20/30', and eat outside, this is the place where to come and buy chinese food in Chinatown SF.

Best pork buns Iāve found! Eat them while theyāre hot, or the paper will be hard to peel off. They often run out of things, so itās best to go early.

Great dim sum, would recommend the pork shar sui, shrimp dumplings and sesame seed rolls, got 10 items for under 10 dollars

Happened to go to this place on a whim and so glad I did. I saw a line of locals so I knew the food had to be good. The dumplings were to die for. Fresh, flavorful and poping with shrimp, I was surprised at how good they tasted. In fact they were s good I went back for seconds. Hadn't tried my BBQ pork bun yet but can't wait.

This was one of the best places in China town. Cheap, delicious and just awesome. There is always a line but it moves so fast. I didnāt understand the menu but just look at what others are getting. The char sue bun is the perfect meal. Fluffy on the outside with delicious pork inside. The noodles looked boring but it was so tasty for just noddles and bean sprouts. We bought stuff for our trip to the San Francisco bridge and it traveled well. Loved it so much that we got some for our road trip.

My husband and I wanted to eat real Chinese food in Chinatown. Our long walk to Good Mong Kok Bakery was so worth it. Everything we ate was delicious. We had the scallion bun, pork bbq bun, shrimp dumpling and scallion bread. EVERYTHING was great. I would love to go back, but this was our last day in SF. It is take out. We went around a corner to find a place to eat. A wonderful local talked to us about his life here. Our whole experience in Chinatown was simply perfect and yummy.

The title says it all. Get the steamed or baked pork buns and you will not be disappointed. There is always a line but that's a good sign that your getting the good stuff

Sooo tasty, and generous portions at a great price. It's just a little difficult to order quickly when you eventually get to the front of the line and can see what's available!

I wanted to check out nearby Chinatown so we headed to Good Mong Kok Bakery for some pork buns and sesame balls. There was a bit of a line but I ordered some items off of the menu. My husband wasn't sure what he wanted and he kind of chose something he didn't end up liking so definitely know what you are ordering or you will be disappointed. Our order came out to be about $12 for a bunch of food. We went to a nearby park to eat it as this bakery is takeaway only. The food was cheap and filling. They take credit cards but I think it comes with a fee. Paying with cash is cheaper.

We stopped at this place to grab some Dim Sum as we passed it on our walk from Union Square to the waterfront. The flavours were great and the prices low. There is no space to eat inside but grab a seat at a bench nearby to enjoy. We made a special trip back the next morning to get Dim Sum for breakfast.

Had the pork and shrimp dumplings- pork was my favorite. BBQ pork bun was amazing as well. Also had a sesame ball. Yummy. Not too sweet. Talk to others in line and see what they are getting. Thatās what we did!!

We waited about 15 minutes in line to order our food. It was all amazing. the entire family devoured everything.

I read the reviews and still debated. When I saw the line, debated some more. Decided to get in line and give it a try. The lines to this bakery is very noticeable. Went around 11am on a Sunday. Spent 20 mins in line and then made my selections. This part can go quick so make sure you know what you want. My absolute favorite were the shrimp dumplings. They were not what I expected at all. Wish I ordered more. Bbq steamed buns were good, too. Seasame balls were the best I've ever had!

From the outside, the Good Mong Kok Bakery is not somewhere I would consider eating from. However, having read great things in a travel book and recommendations from fellow travellers on YouTube we decided to give it a try. We werenāt disappointed!!! The pork bun is so tasty, probably the best thing I have ever eaten from a Chinese food establishment. I could have eaten them everyday we were in San Fran! Also, their Chow Mein was great too. We got a few other things to try given the great reviews along with some drinks. Everything was $16 which was an absolute bargain!! We actually asked the lady if she had charged us for everything, and she confirmed she had. A definite must if in San Fran! You wonāt be disappointed!!

Came here after reading the reviews. As expected, it was the only bakery on the street with a queue of locals outside waiting for morning dim sum. It's quite good that there is a queue so you can prepare what you are going to order as you do feel a bit of pressure to be quick considering a lot of people are waiting, and I imagine if you've never had dim sum before it can be a daunting experience knowing what to ask for. Staff don't seem the most friendly but I think they are trying to serve as quickly as possible, and they aren't rude, just don't say much. The food itself was delicious and good size. Definitely great value and would recommend.

If you can look past the temperament of the servers, you are in for a treat. The ha-gow and siu-mai were the largest I've seen and absolutely delicious. Also worth noting were the extra large steamed cha-siu bao (buns) which had large chunks of pork throughout. We took away a dozen huge dumplings, two steamed pork buns, a deep fried dumpling, congee, and a fried breadstick for a mere $15. What great value! Though line moved very quickly, do not expect friendly service. Staff appear to only speak Chinese and have little patience with customers who do not order quickly or have questions. Also, there is no seating so we brought our feast to Union Square and devoured it there. A truly memorable meal all around!

Okay, so the line is long - at least 20-25+ mins. The store owner next door will yell at you to not block the entrance (I don't completely blame him - people need to be more mindful and smart about how they get in line, but just know you may be yelled at). The folks at Mong Kok aren't friendly but I can understand that friendliness may become secondary when you're working non-stop in a cramped take-out store all day long. For all this, the dim sum was totally worth it. The shrimp dumplings are large, fresh, and tasty - you don't need any sauce for it. The chive dumplings are shrimp and chives - -we loved these as well. The chow mein was excellent as well, as were the sesame balls. The menus seem to indicate that the dumplings are sold in sets of 3 but I think they are actually flexible, i.e., you can order 1-2 dumplings. Overall, very satisfying meal for a very reasonable price ($18 got us way more food than we needed for 2 people).

Stopped here early one morning to pick up breakfast on the go - we had the bbq pork steamed buns- they were absolutely delicious and very filling :) An amazing cheap breakfast and would recommend :)

There are already plenty of spot on reviews of this place but based on eating there twice, I have this advice: even if there's a line, step inside and use your iPhone to take photos of the menu which is posted on the wall above the counter for ordering. Why? When you get your spot in the line, you can then study the menu on your phone as you wait. As other reviewers have already noted, you have to be prepared to make really snap decisions once it's your turn so studying up ahead of time will get you ready. And yes, all the servers are very brusk and rude so that doesn't help either. But persevere! The food is very good and it is ever so cheap. My first $6 lunch consisted of: 1 pork steamed bun (very large), 3 pork dumplings, 1 chinese donut, savory porridge and 1 sesame ball. And a partridge in a pear tree (well, it sort of sounds like Christmas doesn't it?). this is "take away" only as there is no place to sit. My recommendation is to walk to Portsmouth Square which is about two blocks away between Kearny and Grant. Plunk yourself down on one of the many benches and watch a fascinating slice of chinatown life as you munch your way through your food delights.

heart of Chinatown, always seemed to have a line, line moved quickly, brusque counter staff better know what you want and then pay cash quickly and move on. The taste is worth the character of the place.

If you fancy chinatown for breakfast, this is the place to go! Cheap and yummy! I had the pork bun and it was fantastic! Really recommend. Pineapple bun was nice and soft as well.

Cheap and affordable dim sum. Their bbq pork buns are delicious! Just had their eggplant and thought it was delicious as well.

There was a long line for this place and most of them were locals, so we had high hopes. The food was fine, but nothing special. The baked goods were our favorites. The noodles were only so so. We didn't finish most of what we bought.

If you donāt mind eating on the street or taking out, this place is the perfect spot for a delicious Dim Sum, prices are half of restaurants and taste is twice better.

This place... and the line in front of it, speaks for itself! Huge and affordable dim sum... two orders per person is plenty to feed you! The first day that I went here, I definitely ordered too much as I was thinking it's so cheap, it must be small portions, but I was so wrong! The price is cheap, the portions are plenty and the food is delicious! I would highly recommend the shrimp dumplings, the chicken shu mai, the shark fin dumpling and the char siu bao. I also tried the sticky rice which was good, but not as flavorful as my Granmda makes it. Highly recommend this little gem!

Delicious and easy on your pockets! No wonder it is highly rated. You get 3 HUGE pieces of dim sum for just around $2-3 and whats better than the price? The amount of meat and seasoning is just shockibg; the meat are juicy and full of taste! Don't be late though; the dim sum especially the chicken siao may tends to finish fast. We would go back there again next time we are in SF.

Went twice on my week long trip to San Francisco. This place is awesome. Everything we tried was exceptional and very affordable. If I find myself in San Francisco again this will be my first stop. Carry out only.

Very good value for the money. The taste was so authentic as in China. We grabbed some at 5 pm. Lots of them were already sold out. The service was a little inpatient, but they didnāt mean that, believe me.

This hole-in-a-wall dim sum shop is worth lining up for! While it looks a bit dodgy, this is just how many dim sum places operate in San Francisco where real estate is in high demand. You order what you want from the counter lady, she packs things up in a plastic container, you pay, and off you go to find a spot to eat your goodies on the street, at home or wherever. Probably best you don't ask the lady what things are if you're not sure what they are(She's busy you know!) and just ask other customers what they recommend. The hargow was the best i've had and the pork siu mai is pretty good. The serving sizes are generous for what the price is. The steamed pork buns aren't quite to my taste, as the bread to pork ratio is out, and the pork itself is a little stodgy, but each to their own!

The team BBQ pork buns were delicious. Service was fast. I did not wait long in line. No seating area in the shop.

We identified this place on Trip Advisor. We filtered the results...looking for a place that was both highly rated for good food and inexpensive. This place is not really a restaurant. It is a "bakery". We showed up in the middle of the afternoon on a week day. It took us 20 minutes of waiting outside in line, but it was truly worth it! The food was amazingly delicious. We pointed at what we want and filled up 3 take away plastic bags. (My advice...bring your own bags and dishware and cutlery to the establishment.) I imagine locals must then go home or make other arrangements. On the fly we went into one of the small shops on Stockton Street and bought plastic ware. Then we walked to a small park - Ina Coolbrith Park at Vallejo and Taylor. It was very quiet and provided stunning city and ocean views. There are benches for sitting and enjoying your lunch. Another excellent takeout location location is Fay park at 2366 Leavenworth St. It is a hidden spot to enjoy respite from the crowds. By the way, the food from Good Mong Kok Bakery was superb. We ended up with at least 3 adult servings. The cost for everything was an amazing $9.50! I would go again in a heartbeat, but I would be sure to take my plastic ware and a drink. A true gem worth trying in San Francisco.

The hat how was really good, the Sui Mai also tasty, and the sesame rolls were very good There was a line even on a very rainy day...but it's worth the wait. The food is very good

Saw a long long line outside the bakery and read some reviews while waiting. Wow the dim sum was so good, pork buns were big and delicious, shrimp dim sum was fresh and so inexpensive. Worth the wait in long line! A must when visiting China town in the Bay Area.

Loved the sweet buns/sesame bun and BBQ pork buns . Very small place, takeout only, need to know what you want. Also ordered the pineapple bun and that was great too. Got lots of good for 4 people for only 10$! Great value.

My wife loves dim sum, and I tolerate it to please her. We stopped by here on the way back to our hotel. A bit of a line and the place is really small. As you read the services is more for the locals than for tourists. Be ready to order or at least point to what you want. The menu is in English and is numbered so you should be able to order quickly. We got only a couple of things, but they good and the portion size is big. We liked it and it was a bit of an experience.

Place to go for a dim sum urge and do not want to spend a lot of money by going to a restaurant. The food is good and the sizes are large. Always a line but line moves fast. Look at the menu board on the wall to know what you will be ordering. This is a fast operations. Do NOT get to the front of the line to see what you want. No body (the workers and the other customers) do not have to patience to wait for you.

The pork bbq buns were not even exceptionally delicious. I got so disappointed coz the dimsum in nearby restaurants are more delicious. The store also looks dirty.

Get here early to get a larger variety, because they sell out fast. The ha gaw, sui mai, sharks fin dumplings are delicious, as are all of the other offerings. Yum!

Tried the pork and shrimp dim sums.. i think thats what they are called. Look like dumplings. Also had the pork buns! They were all amazing. Best part is that they are extremely cheap and they fill you up.

After standing in line for 5 minutes in a very small place (not a problem), the ladies informed us they did not have the items we wanted ( ok, not a problem). We then purchased the steamed pork buns--big, cheap but the taste was a disappointment (now that's a problem).

Not fancy, but great Dim Sum. The baked Char Sui Baus barbecue pork buns) are some of the best I have ever had. The Sui Mai, Har Gow and Raisin Buns are also delicious. Itās a VERY TINY bakery and people line up on the street. Donāt be put off by the appearance and the lines. You will not be disappointed!

Wait in the line. You wonāt be disappointed! The dim sum was great and all very fresh. Everything tasted great and we would definitely go back!

There is a line outside because it's simply a small bakery you order for take out. There are plenty of workers, So don't let a long line scare you. Forgot to take pics because we ate it so fast. We had the shrimp dumplings, seafood shumai, sesame seed balls, bbq pork bun & pork shumai. All for $12.90. They were so shocked when I tipped em cash. Which I should suggest adding to credit card transactions. Another suggestion, cleanliness

We saw the line with locals and visitors to find this place. Nice buns and pastries. Good SF snacks to go.

I wish I could break this review into several smaller reviews. Overall this was an amazing experience. Right in the heart of Chinatown, inside a TINY bakery with dozens of people behind me, it was exactly what I wanted. A little stressful because I didnāt (still donāt) know what to order and I didnāt want to hold up the line. There are dozens of options. I was fortunate to have a local couple in front of me who gave me several good recommendations. The prices were so low I felt comfortable ordering tons of food just to get a good sampling. I didnāt love everything I ordered, but I liked most of it, and that was the point!

We were staying at the Ritz just about a half mile away. On Saturday morning I walked over at about 7:30a to bring back Dim sum for the wife and kid. No line that early, which meant I could take my time ordering and getting help. Picked out about a kilo of dim sum, though some key items weren't available that early. Still, was more than enough for the three of us, and only $18!!! Would easily have been $40 or $50 worth at our dim sum place in Austin. Highly recommended!

I was on a short business trip to San Francisco and so glad to find a dim sum take-out place that opens early! I got to the place around 8:30 and the line was out the door. Everything looked so fresh and smelled so good with very good prices. I got the shrimp rice crepes, teochew dumplings, baked pork buns and pineapple buns. They were fantastic! I would suggest looking up the menu online and get your order ready before you go and bring cash. It's an in-and-out place. I would give 5 stars but they only had regular soy sauce for the crepes.

If you're exploring Chinatown and you crave dim sum, you have to make a stop here. The dumplings and buns are fat and delicious. You may wait in line for twenty minutes, but you'll be amply rewarded. Business is always brisk so the food is super fresh.

This little place is the best place to get great dim sum and pastries. My most recent trip was disappointing because we got there too late in the day to get everything we wanted. There was a line out the door and the wait was about fifteen minutes, so by the time I got inside they were sold out of many things. Getting there early in the day before the crowds start lining up is the best way to be able to try it all. Still, the items they did have were very good and their prices can't be beat. My favorites are the Joong (Chinese sweet rice dumpling) and the sesame balls. The taro cakes are also amazing.

My hotel was not far from China town and I felt like dim sum for breakfast The place was recommended in many sites and I decided to try The place is very small and since I can early I did not have to wait in line I just choose 6 different ones There is no place to eat inside and the put them in a plastic box to go I walked around the area to find a place to seat and eat which was not easy to find (I suggest to figure out the place before taking the food) All the choices were very good and it all cost less than 8$ Really best value you can find

Was really excited to be blown away by authentic Chinese food, guess it's just not for us (& we consider ourselves to be weekend foodies who like to experiment!). Service is quick and efficient *IF* you know what to order, so we read a bunch of reviews ahead of time and had prepared a list of popular items to sample - shu mai, har gow, pork buns, lotus leaf sticky rice, pineapple bun, and scallion bread. We walked a few blocks to Portsmouth Square Park to sit and sample our feast, but unfortunately the only item we enjoyed and actually finished off was the scallion bread, quite tasty! I first visited Good Mong Kok a few years ago with my husband and we were put off by the flavors, however I really wanted to love this place, so we visited again this past weekend with our daughter. Sadly, it's just not for us, but we seem to be in the minority so we still recommend a visit!

Saw the queue and decided to try the food. It was close to closing time so most things were sold out. As the pork and vegetables pau was fresh off the steamer, decided to go for it. The texture of the pau was not really fluffy although it was large. The filling was disappointing as it was basically pork mince with chopped up vegetables. Fairly tasteless and hardly up to Melbourne standard. Price was really cheap but could not finish the pau. Maybe, the other dim sum are better

Sticky rice. Just get it. That is all! Worth the stand in the line. The dumplings are amazing too. Prepare to be treated as if you are a nuisance. Every customer seems to be!!

A great place for a quick and cheap breakfast in SF. We stayed nearby so came here three times during our trip for breakfast. We could get more than enough food for two of us for $9. Recommend the baked BBQ pork bun, they were sold out of steamed buns the first time we went so tried these and actually thought they were better! The dumplings were amazing as well. Bring cash and have an idea of what you want to order, the line will move quickly so don't be put off by waiting a few minutes. If you turn left and left again when you come out of the bakery, you will find some ledges/seats outside the hospital where you can sit to eat.

"Bakery" in this case misleads the uninformed because most of the items for sale are steamed rather than baked. Just get on line, and await your turn to order dim sum to take away. Everything I ordered was larger than normal and tasty. Get nicely filled for $5, which is a real bargain in San Francisco.

Cheap and good! Most of the other reviews describe this place perfectly. To sum it up quickly; take out, line takes 10 minutes or less, know what you want to order before you get to the counter, staff not super friendly, cash only, delicious food, and super cheap! I had 2 steamed pork sticky buns, 2 shrimp dumplings, 2 chicken siu mai, and a sesame ball for $6.10. I was so full that I couldn't finish it all.

Worth standing in the long line for. Fresh and tasty. No parking. Driving through Chinatown is a nightmare!

We were traveling with kids and weren't sure about what the whole scene would be like in Chinatown much less an unknown restaurant but based on google reviews we decided to try it. Upon arrival we noticed a line, but this we didn't mind because it means we made a good choice! It's a tiny place (only single file line). You can point to food that is on display and they will tell you what it is. We got a pigs in a blanket type of roll that had really yummy sweetened bread for the kids and a variety of dim sum. Once we left and tried everything while walking around (there's no place to sit) we decided our favorite was the shrimp and chives dim sum and liked it so much we went back and waited thru the line again and got some more. Did I mention it was cheap. 8 dim sum for $6. Can't beat it.

We were hungry for dim sum since San Francisco has a great China Town ! We can't get it where we live so we get it every time we visit San Francisco. They have outstanding reviews so we decided to give it a try. The line outside was long. The restaurant owner next door came out and asked is to move the line in front of the bakery and not in front of their door. That was a fair request. However, they received only one customer while we were waiting to get into the bakery. When we finally got inside, the area where you order is extremely narrow, and there are 3-4 workers taking orders from other customers. Their menu on the wall is not only in Chinese by English as well. We also pointed to items we wanted that were in the window and held up our fingers as to the quantity we wanted. We ordered tons of dim sum and it came to only $15! So the prices are very good. The bakery is take out only, so we went to our daughters to eat our food. The food surely didn't disappoint us. Definitely we'll return.

Came here to grab a takeaway lunch, no queue on a weekday mid-morning. Fantastic BBQ pork bun, shrimp dumplings and sesame buns, highly recommended!

lady is very helpful every time in their, always good food and taste excellent I really recommend to every one . worth of waiting inline. not to expensive

Excellent, authentic food for a great price. Very quick too and with a large menu of items. We tried #21, the bbq pork buns and the sesame balls.

We stood in line for their char siu bao (pork buns), but they were unfortunately out. The vegetable buns were amazing, though! Any takeout place worth their salt in Chinatown is going to have a line out the door. It really does not take long to get through, though, so donāt be shy. Get in line!

We stopped here following the directions of a well-known Instagram page specializing in the best clubs in San Francisco and I must say that they were right! The dim sum dishes are really excellent, perfect for a takeaway lunch before departure at the airport, absolutely typical Chinese and cheap. The bread in particular is exceptional!

Came here for the food which on the whole was tasty - two pork buns, three chicken buns, lack lustre noodles and a soft bun tapped out at $10 - so cheap. The four aunties standing behind the counter are very abrupt which some could take as rude - āhurry up, move onā so have an idea of the menu. A very average UK noodle/dim sum/mo mo restaurant.

Finally tried this place for a little dim sum to go. Really fun and delicious, and well worth the wait in line. Had planned to take it to a nearby park to eat picnic style, but we were too impatient and ate most of our purchases before we got to the park! We were there later afternoon and they were out of a few things we wanted (better to go in the morning Iām sure) but they still had plenty of items available.

Not very expensive, and not much waiting But a disappointment... I expected a lot from this restaurant in chinatown! But it doesnāt even measure up to a low-end Chinese restaurant in France .. if you pass take a tour but is not worth the detour

The food was delish and soooo inexpensive. No seating. Be ready for a line and READ MENU BEFORE you go to cut down on confusion on what to order. Shrimp dumplings best I've ever had. Chinese donut yummy.

Affordable dim sum and various treats. You gotta stand in line and be ready to order. All to go orders, they efficient and food is fresh and fair amount. Would return. They also have a variety of dim sum! If you speak Chinese, it goes a long way!

Got there a few minutes before they opened and was still not first in line. Still, it went quick. We went specifically to try char siu bao (steamed pork buns). They were only $1.20 each and size of softball! Delicious, fresh, and we vowed to get more the next day. Unfortunately we went back after 11 the next day and they were sold out. Ordered one baked one and kicked ourselves later for not getting more! Tip 1: Get there early. Tip 2: Bring a cooler so you can order extra and store it safely.

My motto: 'if there's a long line it must be good!' This is our second time to visit San Francisco as a family and we always go to China Town just to get to eat our favorite dimsum place. As always there's always a long line. Their dimsums are ridiculously good. Best dimsum that we've ever tasted. So when you're in San Francisco don't forget to try Good Mong Kok bakery's dimsum! Yummy!

Well known for its buns to go, this place offers wide variety of canton inspired snacks to go (there is no place to sit). They are quite big and tasty (but not overly though). Queues are long, but moving fast.

There was a line but well worth the wait getting to the whole-in-the-wall take-out only DIM SUM in Chinatown. You can order from the wall menu (It's in English) but I found it more fun to point and select to each of the fresh items behind the counter. Ha Gow (shrimp dumplings) and Siew Mai (Pork) were large sized. B-B-Q pork buns were warm and wonderful. The congee (preserved duck eggs) was EXCELLENT (perfectly flavored and authentic), and the Gin Doi (Seasame Seed buns) were warm and chewey awesomeness. Prices were LOW and this is a great value!

The staff were really unfriendly and the food was not so good as people say. I would not go back again.

I am sure I am not the first to write a positive review but I can write from a varied frame of reference. I have had Chinese dim sum in NYC, Flushing, and Vancouver but none is better than here. Traditional dim sum done in the traditional way. No contemporary spin just great buns and dim sum.

This is the first stop for us when we visited SF city via the cable car. There was a queue outside the shop but the staff were effecient and quickly we were served. The menu was all in words and no picture, hence, for those who are not familiar with dim sum items, just point out what you want. The food was all so yummy and tasty for every item that we ordered. Loved it. Wish I had stayed in SF for more days and I would return everyday to eat this.

While walking around in Chinatown we looked up a place to have a quick bite. Fortunately we went for this small whole-in-the-wall where we got a bbq pork bun, 3 big shumai dumplings (pork) and 3 sesame balls for 5$. All 3 tasted great and were filled generously. The place is take away only with grumpy service but if look past the hygiene and the service you get tasty food for a very low price. The long queue at lunch time seemed to agree with me :)

If you like to try real authentic dim sum and not afraid of lack of politeness and good serves! This place is for you. We just pointed with our finger what we wanted as ladies there don't speak much of English and we were very happy with our random chooses :). (WE SPENT $5.60 š¤)

Maybe we donāt love dim sum enough but this was just okay for us. The pork bun was...pork-y. The shrimp rolls were good but needed some dipping sauce. The sticky rice roll was okay.

We were there around 2:00 pm so they were out of several items , but the buns are SOO good- Pineapple & BBQ. There was a line, but it lives quickly. Totally worth the wait

Waited for the normal 15mins to be served. Dumplings were tasty and cheap which hit the spot. Wil be back!

Mong Kok Riga, Latvia I am agreat fan of Chinese foods and have ahd it in CHINA PROC, British Hong Kong, Singapore, Brussels, Berlin, Sweden Lithuania and Latvia. I was delighted when I found this place, a stone's throw from my offices and at fair price. That has changed now it is no less than 5.5 eur which is too much to have and to pay when you want less. Also, the persons selling have no clue, one Chinese thinks he can speak English gets all orders wrong, it was much better when the senior lady was in place, now just youngsters - clueless. No communication with the customer how soon it will come and frankly the food was cold and tasteless. I will stop buying! Fix these things and I might return. Also very often it is closed without warning, and food runs out fr lunch time and on...but then why be open?

If you are in San Francisco, you cannot miss having breakfast, lunch or a snack with Good Mong Kok dim sum. It is located at Chinatown and itās not a restaurant! You have to buy to go. They offer a different kind of dim sum, so unique, delicious and tasty that you wonāt find anywhere else in the city. And have big portions and it is not expensive at all.

Favorite place to eat in San Francisco after our trip. Enjoyed it more than pricier dinners. The dumplings were amazing. For less than $20, I ate more dumplings than I could handle. My wife and children loved them so much, we ate dumplings there the following day for breakfast - yes, breakfast. The only downside is you will be eating on the street. Oh well... you will be literally as full as a tick by the time you finish ½ your plate, and you will stuff yourself with the other half because its soooo good! Oh, and if you don't believe me, get their a little late and see what happens (yeah, you will be standing in a long line which should be a huge "tell" itself).

Great place to grab a dim sum lunch for approx $5-$10. The queue moves quickly and shouldnāt be a deterrent. We took our lunch to the Woh Hei Yuen Park (one block away) and sat in the sun and enjoyed.

Nothing that you would got in this place will disappoint you! Cheap and good quality dim sum! Highly recommend shrimp dumplings!

Arrived around 9am and there was a long line waiting outside. The line moved fast and we used photographs of the menu from Yelp to select what items we wanted. For $11 I was able to feed my family of four for breakfast! We ordered steam BBQ pork buns, sesame ball, deep fried meatballs and Chinese doughnuts.

We dropped by to pick up some quick Dim Sum while cruising Chinatown. A lot of different Dim Sum options. The menu is scribbled on the wall, and we just went with some more or less well-considered choices, but they were all good.

I was looking something for breakfast after walked over 10k steps at 9AM, and this shop is open ; I think most of shop in China town open early. What should i called, this is a real cheap eat with above par for Dim Sum, my breakfast with 3 kind of dumping; beef, shark fin and shrimp with chive under $5...with real meat not like pastry just starch & sugar...
Cheap and Tasty
I love dim sum so was excited to visit this bakery while visiting San Francisco. The pieces of dim sum were much bigger than what I'm used to and very tasty. It was very cheap too. I paid about $4 for 5/6 pieces which kept me full for hours. At the time that I went at about 4pm there were only about 4 different things to choose from. If you are particular about what meats you eat this may not be the place for you as noone spoke English so would be very difficult to get an explanation of what was what. I basically just pointed at what I wanted to eat and hoped for the best!
