Great Burger and Refreshments

By DeepBlueDives |

Took the advice of a friend to check out this neighborhood hang out. The signage made it a bit difficult to notice until we passed the location, but it was well worth the extra trip around the block. Definitely a great selection of local and not so local micro's, along with a simple menu, casual atmosphere, and friendly service will put this towards the top of my repeat visits. A simple U shaped bar is in the middle of the restaurant, with ample tables and seating on both sides. It has a friendly and warm ambience upon entering. There is a beer garden outside, that was partially enclosed, and did have some heating available. It was too cold for most of the cliental this evening, so most people opted to come inside. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the beer, and there are quite a few to choose from. The menu is simple, but offers a good selection of burger choices and appetizers. We sampled the Spuds McKenzie for our appetizer, and this was a good compliment to the burgers we ordered. The little lady had the turkey burger with Asian slaw, my oldest loved the Pepper Bomb, and the good old P.L.O.T burger was a basic but tasty selection. The whole family enjoyed our meals, and we will definitely be back.

Great "Austin-esque" joint in Dallas

By NoKidsNoWorries |

Great selection of beers. Crazy selection of hamburgers and hot dogs. You would never think you were in Dallas eating here. It's a bit off the beaten path, but that's part of its charm for sure. I had the Loretta, burger with onion-bacon jam and blue cheese. It just about killed me (in a good way). My friend had a hot dog that looked delicious as did the black bean burger on the table next to us. Nice patio, but I have to say, I didn't even go inside. Try it, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Bacon Galore!! Who's Complaining?

By davidsonh2016 |

My new favorite place to eat in Dallas. The food, the service, the atmosphere are consistently above average. Visiting with an old friend (she's the old one) over lunch we ordered BLTs. Never have I have seen so much bacon, stacked a mile high. And not the usual tasteless bacon offered up on limp bread with tasteless tomatoes. No, the bacon was top flight. We were licking our fingers. The tomatoes the homegrown variety. Then bread extraordinary. Alert: one sandwich easily feeds two hungry girls.

Nice Burgers

By Chad1969 |

Great burgers and beer selection. The burgers though are over priced and the fries are an extra charge. A ton of local craft beer to choose from. Get there early.

Stick With The Favorites

By ptbyb |

I've been here before for beers only and enjoyed the atmosphere. I went in yesterday for food and beers and it was not good. The beer still met spec as did my wife's burger. I made the mistake of ordering a dog. Out came a giant dry lukewarm one the size of a bratwurst with a milligram of kraut under it. We were on the patio and what followed was an invasion of flies. It was a bad scene. The bottom line is if you like it stick to beers on the patio and burgers indoors.

Best Burger I've Had in a Long Time

By SlinkyInk |

When we first arrived at the address we had a hard time finding it. The outside is well camouflaged. But it's there. The atmosphere inside was very much like a trendy dive bar. I think it worked for Goodfriend. There was some debate as to who our server was and so service started out very slow. We waited about 10 minutes before someone even came to take our drink order. Once this was remedied food was brought to us very promptly. We started with the Frito Pie. I've never had this before, so it was an interesting experience. It was very good! I'd definitely order it again. My husband had the Bleu Burger. He said it was amazing. I had the Alamo. Wow! This was the best burger I've had in a very long time. Burger, brisket, queso, jalapenos, and avocado. I have never tasted anything quite like this. It was incredible. I only made it through half of the burger and wish I could have taken the rest home. However, we were out of town and there was no way for me to refrigerate the leftovers. Over all, it was an amazing experience. Had it not been the slow start to the service I would have given them 5 stars.

Tasty Goodness and Craft Beer!

By Kurt B |

We have tried this place twice now, and were impressed both times. Dark and comfortable, with a large bar and good craft beer selection, this has all the makings of a place to just hang out for a while. The first time we visited, my wife and I split a "Spuds McKenzie" and the Loretta. Honestly, with the size of the potato appetizer, it was more than enough for two! The Spuds McKenzie is a huge (emphasis on huge) pile of waffle fries with cheese, bacon and green onions. Found out on the second visit that they have a "half" order. The difference is do you want it big or really big! The Loretta is a tasty burger with blue cheese and bacon jam. The burger oozes goodness. Tasty, tasty goodness! Wait staff was attentive and food was brought out hot and ready. On the second visit, we just sat at the bar, had the (half order) of Spuds and drank a few beers. Bar staff was attentive, but not overly so, allowing us to have a conversation between ourselves. We will definitely return!

Great spit

By D'Anna K |

Amazing burgers and nachos. Somewhat on the pricey side but totally worth it. One of my favorite burgers in Dallas, and trust me there's a lot. This place is great for friends or dates or family. Can get loud on weekends but has a great patio that is covered.

Hit the Spot

By Maegan F |

A friend recommended this place. Came for lunch. Love the atmosphere and vibe even in the afternoons. Delicious burgers! Will recommend for sure.

Best turkey burger I've had

By AVGTXN |

Saturday lunch. I've had turkey burgers at several Dallas-area places, and Goodfriend's was the best. Great flavor, covered in cheese and avocado. Very filling. Attentive service. Definitely will be back.

Very overpriced

By Tommy B |

Loud music on a Saturday afternoon. It is a bar that serves hamburgers, beer etc, very informal, Very overpriced for what and where it is.

Perfect Neighborhood Bar

By William H |

When I think of the perfect neighborhood bar, this is what I want. Located in a formerly run down strip center, Goodfriend has undergone a real transformation. the large circular bar, prominently features several rotating taps. The beer selection is excellent. Yesterday I had the Stone Ruination Black IPA and the Ommegang Rare Vos, so you can see the beer selection is very thoughtful. The burgers are excellent. I've had the Loretta (with onion-bacon jam and Shaft blue cheese), which was excellent. Also, the Pickles, Lettuce and Tomato, is quite good. All the appetizers are great, especially the friend green beans. Goodfriend is the concept of Matt Tobin of Vickery Park and bartender Josh Yingling, who have years of experience in the restaurant and bar business. They make a point of greeting customers warmly. Service is good. The outdoor patio is spacious and is always full. It's a ecclectic crowd, mosty of folks from the neighborhood, lots of kids, and it's dog friendly. The decor is rustic, but very thoughtful, down to the Banksy photo in the men's bathroom. Aptly named, we've met friends here often. We'll be back every week.

Outstanding hamburgers

By Donna W |

Outstanding hamburgers! Crowded neighborhood hangout, with a great beer selection. The waffles fries are fabulous. The Ghost Burger is only for the VERY brave who like it extremely HOT, but the lamb burger is fabulous! Pricey for a burger joint.

Can I get a beer please?

By Jason E |

Can I get a beer please? Anyone. Bueller? Bueller? Any beer will do? Literally any beer! Sat at the bar for 20 minutes without being asked if I was looking for a beer. I have enjoyed their food and beer in the past but their service tonight was horrible.

Great casual spot for burgers and beer

By Mardel F |

Dined here for a multi-generational family dinner. Great beer selection and the food was excellent as well. I had a burger topped with chipotle butter that was heavily laced with chipotle flavor, although not particularly hot. My only complaint was that the burger was cooked closer to medium as opposed to the requested medium-rare. The flavor, however was good. Great waffle fries and fried pickles as well. Will return.

FOOD TO DIE FOR

By helen D |

The food is excellent. The atmosphere is perfect and the employees all are very friendly and personable. I feel like part of a great big family when I am there.

Great Neighborhood beer and burgers!

By 5016DAH |

Off Garland Road on Peavy Road in East Dallas. Small strip center with Goodfriend and 20 Ft Seafood occupying most of the strip. Great selection of craft beers. Nice selection of burgers, wide variety of sandwiches, specialty soups. (like beef poblano). Blue burger is large burger with blue cheese and bacon - how could you go wrong with those two choices? BBQ grilled cheese. TV's and large bar area. Large outdoor covered patio. Parking can be tight when both restaurants are full, but there is street and adjacent parking available. Friendly service.

Fun, casual lunch outing

By Tina W |

Had a long break in between games during an out-of-town baseball tournament. Googled and found this perfect spot. Nice deck with some shade and misters, but we’d already been outside for a few hours so ate indoors. At first glance, it was dark and gloomy but our eyes adjusted quickly. Not a lot of ambience but it was great for our purposes. Lots of families with children indoors for lunch. Creative, delicious burgers (Alamo burger - yum!) and unusual beer selections. Try a local brew or Make Waves Amber in a can. The waitstaff let us linger on the a/c without pushing us out.

Great beer selection, great cheese fries, ok burgers.

By Kittyme2 |

We went here on a recommendation. Great beer selection. Fun outdoor atmosphere (except if it's 100 degrees out). The service was good but not exceptional. The cheese fries were amazing. They come on a small cookie sheet covered in cheese, bacon, green onions, and jalapeños and would have been a great meal for our party of three had we known how huge they were. The burgers on the other hand were pretty disappointing. They were overcooked which made them dry and the toppings we ordered were either burnt (bacon) or cold (fried goat cheese). We would go back for the beer for sure. As far as food though next time we'll stick to the cheese fries.

Great Local Place for Food/Drinks

By Timm W |

Great service, friendly bartenders and the food is fresh and cooked to order. Everything tried thus far met or exceeded expectations and plenty of people to watch or tv's to view your event.

Best burger of the year; great beer options

By Allen727286 |

We've tried to eat here several times but couldn't find a parking place. Turns out you can park in the car wash next door; they own it. So I had the best burger of the year; just the regular cheeseburger. Outstanding taste! GF has a line of whiskey cocktails and I had the John the Baptist which was good; many others left to try. My compadres had beers andthere was a large selection of beers you don't see around much plus some rotating beers. All were quite pleased. Look forward to going here again soon.

Any PLace with Temptresss is OK

By czmdivenut |

Lakewood Temptress on tap! One of my favorite brews. Add to that some really good fried pickles with ghost pepper ranch dipping sauce and a really good blue cheese burger and I am a happy camper.

Great chili burger

By russkwtx |

We stopped in here for lunch on a Saturday when the weather was wonderful. The outside patio was already full so we ate inside, but that was fine. We had been here before but only to have a drink, so this was our first eating experience here. I got the chili burger ($13) and it was was really good. The burger itself is juicy (they cook everything medium). The cheese was melted, and chili was good, and the onion strips really worked well. Good burger. The wife got a BLT with chipotle mayo ($9). Wow, there is a lot of bacon! Very generous. She really liked the multigrain bread. As usual, the beer selection is excellent. We ordered two Lakewood Temptress, which is our new favorite. They apparently have special prices on the weekend because the menu said $6.5 but were charged only $4 each. So I was really happy. Will return for sure, maybe a bit earlier so we can sit outside.

Hidden diamond in the rough

By Nancy B |

We were looking for a good burger while in Dallas. I looked up a list of the best in Dallas and this place was in the top 10. After going to the Dallas Arboretum, we went here for an early dinner, as it is only about a mile away. It's a casual place with outdoor and indoor seating, very much like a beer garden. The waitress, Jamie, was very friendly and guided us through the menu. We tried the fried pickles which were great with the ranch dipping sauce. They have local beers on tap and bottles- a good selection and Jamie was very knowledgeable and helped us with our selections. I had the blue cheese and bacon burger, which was moist, flavorful and the bun was soft and tasty. It was one of the best I've had! My husband had the grilled cheese with brisket. He said it was delicious. Definitely a keeper.

Fantastic food

By Nated2519 |

This place is fantastic all around. Food, service, price, and atmosphere all fantastic. Beware if you like spicy they have a great variety of food items.

The Best Waffle Fries!

By 1972disa |

Waffle fries are yummy! Perfect with your many topping for burgers. Had a great cold Dr.Pepper, not a good beer in a bottle place.

Great selections and great taste.

By Duke1424 |

Table of 6 on the patio and great service from a waitress named Aspen. Turkey burgers had good flavor and the blue cheese burger was delicious as well. The PLOT was excellent and so was the East Side burger with a gooey overeasy egg on it. Waffle fries(sweet potato and regular) were both tasty. Beer selections were abundant and great choices on tap. Definitely will be back!

Fix poor lighting in back corner

By AppleStud |

Food is great and we've visited a few times but the back corner farthest from the hostess stand needs better lighting. One cannot see the food fully or even the faces of the staff who drop by...

Great local pub!!!

By Dan C |

Awesome beer selection plus full bar. Very comfortable easy going place. Service is good and friendly. Bartenders are helpful. Food is excellent.

You should go here

By Vino Du Monde |

Natives who moved away, back for a family visit, it was our first time! Just what we wanted/needed; great beer in a relaxing environment with comforting food. My BLT was truly just the way I like it - crispy and crunchy, not flaccid, and The dude's patty melt was hearty and smelled great. Place is very chill and inviting, if we still lived in the area, we'd visit often.

sweet potato fries!

By Sealstev |

burgers are good, fries are great! nice beer selection...fun, easy environment for a date...they are always busy, and there's a reason...

Great Burger

By ERL972 |

First time in, no disappointment. The budget was big and juicy. Nice indoor and outdoor seating. The service was pleasant. My burger was a close tie to those at rodeo goat.

Excellent Wings - Laid-back atmosphere

By texas_forrest |

Have eaten here twice in the last year. Very pleased both times. Excellent wings - had two varieties and enjoyed both. Nice outdoor seating. So nice to find a neighborhood restaurant that does not follow some chain-store formula.

Yummy burgers!

By eieio2006 |

We've been here twice while visiting friends in Dallas and we have yet to be disappointed with the food and service here. These are definitely one of the best burgers we've ever had and our children love the food off the kids menu too. I've had The Coop twice and loved it each time and I always share an order of sweet potato fries with my husband- fries are always delicious as well. No complaints about the service though I have to admit I wish it weren't so dark in the restaurant. If you have a dog, there is an outside seating area where people with dogs are able to dine. Definitely will be back on future trips to Dallas.

Great burgers, good selection of drinks!

By Lisa E |

This was my first time here and my only complaint is there wasn't much parking. The food was great, very relaxing environment to catch up with friends. I will definitely be back!

Great Food, Atmosphere and of course Beer!

By Lilusmom |

We met here to celebrate a family birthday. Once we found the place (hard to find because the sign is not visible until you enter the restaurant), it took a little work to find parking as well, but worth it. Seating is picknick table style so it made for great seating with a large group like ours. The beer selections were wonderful, however, they ran out of several of their featured beers early in the evening (7:00 on a Friday night). Not to worry though, plenty of other unique options. The food was excellent. Most everyone ordered burgers which are their specialty. Their Asian cole slaw is delish! Also try their spicy burger - it has a reputation - for being really good! With a nice cold beer, it washes the spice down just right. We also ordered hot dogs. If you love hot dogs, you won't be disappointed, they were excellent as well. All food options come with suggested beer pairings which I really appreciated! They know what they're talking about too. Will I go again, absolutely! Really, really enjoyed the whole experience.

Good Patio Lunch

By L Frank |

Three of us met for burgers, fried pickles, cole slaw, chili. The burgers are as good as you'll find anywhere, and an interesting variety. Moist and flavorful. The waffle fries were crisp and good. I wasn't wild about the slaw, which was not sweet (a good thing) but perhaps too dry. And the chili was greasy; basically just ground burger meat with a little cumin. We sat on the patio which had a nice breeze and vibe, though lots of flies. We liked this place a lot because of the burgers.

Meh

By Ashley B |

I love this place, their beer selection, and the environment. I used to love the food here but their menu changed awhile back. I ordered the Morning Glory burger. The egg on top was more runny than you normally get with sunny side up. The bacon was under cooked. I do not recommend.

Delicious Burgers

By Cass See |

The burgers are amazing and there are a several unique variations. Great for vegans too, the black bean burger will make even a brisket lover smile. Darts are available to play. There is a "living area" with a big screen TV and couches. This is nice for larger groups that want to socialize and watch a game. They don't have that many TVs though so seating can be difficult if you are going to watch the game. Large outdoor patio.

Friendly service and great portions

By AppleStud |

Friendly service. I was worried but the beer garden bartender made perfect martini for my picky husband. Potions are generous for the food and tasty. The homemade queso is a bit not to my taste but the trio dips and chips are such a neat appetizer. Service is efficient and friendly...they work hard.

Good beer, good food, what's not to like?

By David B |

Try and get here as often as possible, good place to stop after the Arboretum. Happy hour has good prices but not for special beers. Mixed drinks are good as well. Friendly atmosphere, even for families. We bring our kids and very young grandkids here without a problem. Never had food we didn't think was good, just like some things better than others. Always ask what the special is. Some waitstaff is friendlier than others but all are very attentive. Cheese fries are exceptional. Get a full order and that's all two of you will need.

Looking for a burger

By LeighAnn W |

Cheese board is worth it. Nice variety of food. Must have the sweet potato fries. Burgers were great. Staff and services were great.

ONLY cool bar on East Side of White Rock Lake....

By rudyruru |

As the subject line says, this is the only bar on east side of White Rock Lake in Dallas. If you are in Casa Linda/Little Forest Hills area, this is the best and only establisment where it is bar&family friendly until early evening. It opened less than 18 months.....and it is always.....I mean always packed. All of the food is excellent-it is bar food, but not run of the mill bar food. Ive eaten nearly everything and have yet to leave unsatisfied.

Turkey Burger

By Bigboop31 |

This place is a hidden delight. The Turkey Burger was delicious! We shared a bowl of sweet potato waffle fries, and washed it all down with an ice cold beer on tap. Perfect meal on the patio.

Love their food

By stanzi88 |

Every time I go there always great food! Staff is always very nice!!! I love going there always loves have a great time!! Very wonderful place to go!!!

A bit Pricey

By matts905 |

Nothing wrong with the food or the beer, I just believe $12-$13 for a burger is too high. Especially if it does not come with any sides at all. The Happy Hour ends at 6:00 which is not real convenient either, and parking is limited. This is more bar than restaurant, the interior is very dark. I had to use a flashlight to see the menu. There is a variety of Beers, but nowhere near as many as you'll find at Flying Saucer. This is a good place to hang out if you're a local inhabitant. I wouldn't travel from a suburb just to try it.

Good Goodfriend

By TheOwlReviewer |

Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House is a place that we would never have gone to had it not been listed as one of D Magazine's Top 100 Restaurants in Dallas. The place is hard to find and doesn't look all that great from the outside. Inside, however, the atmosphere is welcoming. The food is wonderful, and the service is excellent. My dining companion and I had fried pickles ($7.00) as an appetizer and then split the P.L.O.T. burger ($9.00), sweet potato waffle fries ($4.00), and peach fried pie ($4.00). The beer selection is enormous. I had the Lakewood Brewing Company Goatman IPA $7.00). My dining companion opted for a glass of wine. We'll definitely be back!

Hidden Gem

By Trip4AWeekend |

Drove here for something different and the place was very packed and busy, busy, busy but the staff was very nice. They have an awesome beer selection and the food is decent. Great place to people watch. The chicken wings are nice and crispy, the cheese fries are good (order the half size) and the Arnold & Elsie was good. My only complaint about the burger is the bun is cold and I prefer a nice toasted bun. Would definitely visit again if/when in that area of Dallas but it's 40 miles from my house, so I don't know when that will be.

Good vibe at this friendly, "local feel" restaurant

By LetsGo800 |

Bring your dog to Goodfriends and you'll feel right at home. We have always eaten outside on the picnic tables. The menu has some unique items and I can recommend the cole slaw and any burger on the list. The beer menu is excellent. I like the friendly service and laid back attitude of the patrons.

Really going downhill

By Allen G |

They changed the menu. Good not as tasty as in the past and the service is slower than we remember. Other people may well agree because it is half empty on Cowboy game night. I think we can leave it more than take it. Signs of a place in decline. Too bad.

Glad its in my Neighborhood

By Clayton B |

I've lived in the neighborhood for quite sometime now, and this is the best thing that could have happened; a local bear garden with outstanding beers and fabulous food. I can literally walk or cycle to this location which is nice since there is nothing else comparable in the area. Located off Garland road just between Gaston and Buckner on Peavy, Goodfriend is the place to go for happy hour, dinner, or just to hang out and watch sports. Their beer selection is amazing and can't seem to settle on a favorite. They have weekly rotators, but as for the usual's, I would recommend Lagunitas or Tank 7. All meal items are made from scratch, even the sweet potato fries. Those items are also paired with beers as well. Overall, Goodfriend has brought a new feel to the area and no matter where you live in the metroplex, this place is worth visiting regularly.

WOW! Move over Hopdoddy's

By JPS63 |

My husband and I were in Dallas for a quick trip and I wanted a good burger! We wanted to sit outside but the patio seating was full. We didn't want to wait for a table outside so we ate inside. We split the burger topped with brisket and were not disappointed! It was soooooo yummy! The brisket was so moist and the burger was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. We also ordered the waffle fries and they were DELISH. I loved the way they were served, in a bowl. The beer was cold and served the way I like it, in a glass bottle with a side of three olives. Watch out Hopdoddy's there is a new burger in town!

Nailed it.

By Carlos |

Had the Blue Burger (all the way, add bacon), delicious. Great choices of potatoes; went for the combo of sweet and golden russet in a waffle cut...Perfect! This place won't disappoint (bring your darts!).

Great Place

By Fred Ŧ |

Went here on a whim with a friend and end up having a good time and the waiter that served us was very helpful and was knowledgeable of the drinks that was served

Good food; Poor service = Average

By terry7442 |

The food is good. I ordered the BLT; my husband ordered some mega-hamburger which he also rated as good. The problem was the service - and they were not all that busy. First problem was I asked if they had Corona Light, the waiter said yes & then he brought something else. When questioned, the waiter said he "misunderstood my request". The beer was removed & I ordered a Modela which was brought in a can, already opened, no glass. I requested a glass & was told, "well it won't be chilled". I said I wanted a glass anyway but had to request a glass three times before one appeared. True to warning, it was warm from the dishwasher. Next problem was our sandwiches came but not the order of fries. When we asked, again, the response was that "he misunderstood our request". Eventually the fries came out, but we were entirely through eating at that point (and I am a slow eater). Then the bill came, with a surprise - we were charged for the beer I sent back. Summary: Good food, not good friends.

Awesome Beer and Burgers!

By Nivedita V |

I went here after looking up the best burger places in Dallas and saw that GBGBH had great reviews. I wanted to eat something spicy and pair it with a great beer - I did just that! I had The Annihilator which is their spiciest burger and comes with a waiver (!!) as it genuinely is that spicy! It was well worth the slight sniffles and few tears - the special spicy paste for the burger is extremely flavorful. The vast beer selection came in handy post burger.

Too many negatives.

I hope you like kids at your local Beer Garden because on our last visit, there were more kids than at a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese. We were really intrigued by this place when it first opened, but this third visit was most likely our last. We arrived 15 minutes after they began serving food at 5:00, there was no lot parking, and we got one of the last 3 empty tables outside on the (thankfully heated) patio. Then as we ate, people started milling around like vultures waiting to pounce on the next available table. Between that, the noise, our indifferent waitress, and all the babies, we couldn't leave fast enough. The burgers are great and if we lived in the area, it's probably a place we would go to, but it's not worth the 15-minute drive for us anymore. Sad, because we really wanted to like it.

Week night break

Love the laid back atmosphere. The food is fantastic! Just a great place to go when you want to relax after a long work day. Think Cheers bar on steroids with food. My happy place.

Beer + Burgers = Blessed

By Matt Blum |

Are the bartenders freakishly knowledgeable about the beers here? Yes. Are the burgers great? Yes. Then why aren't you there? But seriously, try new beers here. They won't steer you wrong. While you're at it, grab a burger. They don't disappoint.

Time well spent

By javamangb |

After helping my son relocate he had been telling me about this place so we decided to grab a brew and some dinner. Good choice, the beer list was incredible our waiter(Pete) ask what style of beer I was in the mood for told him and his suggestion was perfect. Had the El Salazar Burger this one is not for everyone the sauce is beyond hot the hottest burger I've ever had and I loved it! Will be going again!!!

Poor Service & Average Burger - Such High Hopes

By CraftBeers |

Goodfriend Beer Garden has been a bucket list destination forever. I was excited to finally try it, but was very let down. The layout and look of the place are the highlights for me. The combination of patio and interior seating are well done. It's has beer drinkers vibe all over it. While it does have that vibe, the customer base runs the gamut. There are professionals, bikers, family with kids, and couples. This wide cross-section is usually an indicator of a very good restaurant. Service was average to poor. They are not engaged or helpful. I ordered three different craft beers only to be told they are out of all three. The wait time for a beer to be delivered is very long. The food was average to good, not great. The bun is dry. The meat has great flavor, but lacks a juicy texture. The overall impression is a dry low flavor burger. The waffle fries were good, so were the sweat potato fries. Given all the other burger options around and craft beer venues growing every month, there is no reason to visit this place.

Great service and hamburger meat. Also fantastic beer

By AppleStud |

So many hot as in spicy items! I'll be back...love the venue and it's very chill. Reasonable prices for all.

Good vibe

By Michael D |

Great community bar. The patio is nice when the weather allows. I ate a really good cheese burger with a side of waffle fries. The portion of fries was surprisingly large. Had a bite of the chin strap burger which is a burgerwith blue cheese crumble with bacon mousse. Wow! You need to like Blue cheese because it is heavy on there. Almost too much for me. Also popular is their beer offerings, but I didn't drink this time around so nothing to say excited the menu looked robust. I'll be back.

Great neighborhood burger joint.

By BigH73 |

This is a fun burger joint and beer garden. Even if you don't drink beer. They have cocktails and ciders. I did notice this last time their menu changed. I think they have a different chef. There were a couple things like their cheese fries that weren't as good as before. The wings had a different sauce (which wasn't necessarily a bad thing.) they do have GF buns and options which is great. I love the outdoor patio. It's hard to get a seat when it's nice out. And even tho it's cold now they have it covered and screened in. It is a fun place to get a burger and a pint. I love the funky interior. I love what these guys do. Will definitely be back for some more loaded waffle fries.

Great Beer and Burgers

By tattskin |

I had the burger called the annihilator with habanero, ghost, and scorpion pepper with the sweet waffle fries. The sauce did come on the side so you can add as you want. I did not finish the sauce but did use it on the entire burger. It was not bad but had a bite that came at the end. Overall very good.

Tasty burgers and a wide variety of beverages please one person or a crowd

By Rese17 |

Long rustic tables, inside or out, allow people to meet in large groups like ours. We tasted crunch fried green beans, Asian cole slaw, and waffle fries to go with our sandwiches. I ate a spicy bacon and blue cheese burger cooked to a juicy medium. Our vegetarian enjoyed his house-made veggie burger.

Dogs, Grease & FANTASTIC Sunny side up Burgers

By Pat E |

Arriving a bit after 5:00 PM our party had already confiscated a prime picnic table on the patio at this PACKED Hippie/Yuppie/Nerd clientele establishment with dogs allowed. God obviously reserved us a spot as Mom & I parked directly in front of entrance? Love dogs so did have a problem with the dogs but with "their 20 something owners" waiting in line outside the restaurant on the other side of railing from our picnic table on the patio. Two couples? continually eased their UN-socialized dogs toward each other over & over causing snarling & barking (over 30 minutes) thinking it was hilarious while a smaller dog sitting between two young ladies on bench behind us was the perfect gentleman! Wait staff paid no attention possibly because they were extremely busy or event was commonplace? Some have said difficult to find due to very little signage but lived in the area 45 years ago so did not have a prob. Map it. Going north on Peavy immediately after passing Garland Road, street immediately comes to a Y. LOOK RIGHT. Patio has hanging baskets with a back drop of what reminds me of the old roll up service station doors. Area has changed dramatically over the years from a top/upper middle class area as many areas of Dallas have after '86. We frequented the previous Straw Hat Pizza which was in same approximate location. Have had burgers all over the Dallas area as always worked; a single Mom of two, who frivolously had lunch & dinner out often. Remembering all types of foods are to taste, here cooked to order Burgers are to die for! Have sampled Burgers from the previous original Chili's location Greenville @ Meadow to caviar burgers at previous Andrew's in Addison. Five of us (as usual) were celebrating a birthday with all different burgers a hit! Burgers on menu were paired to suggested "brew" which the guys loved. Mom & I SPLIT the scrumptious (gigantic) difficult to find sunny side up egg burger. For those 30 something up forgo the sides if you have ANY problems digesting grease. As we left perspective diners impatiently waited for our parking place's as we said our farewells. By this time parking lot was not only still packed but car's were parked up and down both sides of street as well as car wash in close proximity but do not suggest. FIRST make a call for food hours... We made plans for 5:00PM on a Sunday as after a phone call to establishment "thought" this was week-end time they began serving food? so will chalk this experience up to just another "senior moment"? Some things I no longer wish to experience: Malls, Presentations in front of CEO's at Harvey House or Six Flags Over Texas (you get the picture) but if lines & hustle/bustle do not phase you; this place you will love with it's magnificent burgers! Passed once since but perhaps could get take out and go the couple of miles to White Rock Lake for a picnic?

Great Place to Eat

By trfan77 |

I was surprised to hear I hadn't heard of this place since it was 10 minutes away until my friends suggested it. Truly an amazing place and one of the best burgers in town despite it not being in a big area. Be prepared to wait in line though.

Great Waffle Fries, Good Burgers, and Lots of Draft Beer!!

By jeff o |

P.L.O.T. Burger was very tasty and my wife and I loved the Waffle French Fries. Did not have a Beer at Lunch, but was very tempted by the Great Draft Beer Choices. Cassie our server was very informative and did a good job! It was not busy at lunch time on a Monday, but it does take a little while to get your food. But, the food is worth the wait!! Very convenient to the Arboretum, as is Twenty Feet Seafood Restaurant nextdoor!! Loved the 60's & 70's Music on the sound system.

Fun Place with Lots of Beer Selections

By Linda C |

This is a great neighborhood restaurant and beer garden. Food was excellent and the beer was good and cold. I had an amazing chicken sandwich--Jalapeno cream cheese and cucumber slices and chicken on very good bread. Wonderful sweet potato waffle fries! Others had burgers and a BLT and everyone was extremely pleased. We had a great server--he was knowledgeable, efficient and very personable--wish I could remember his name. Would have loved to sit outside, but too hot.

Love this place!!

We finally tried Goodfriend after a friend suggested it. We had tried the weekend before but the wait was too much. We only waited about 30 minutes for a table for 8 and it was definitely worth the wait. Good drinks & great food with large portions for the appetizers will be more than enough to bring us back. The atmosphere is very laid back and the service was excellent!! This place is a must-try in East Dallas just down the road from White Rock Lake.

Great place to take Good Friends!

By FrostJourneys |

Goodfriend brings the Austin spirit to Dallas and that is a very good thing! We like to bring friends here to share the pulled pork nachos (huge portion with their fantastic queso) and enjoy the enormous variety of local/craft beer. Burgers are good and so is the meatloaf & mashed potato sandwich. Would be nice if people would leave the kids at home or take them to The Lot though..... Enjoy!

Good times

Food was very good, service was very friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed. Good dining experience. They could use a bigger sign outside and the parking can be a challenge; but well worth it.

A Neighborhood Treasure

By Iretnil |

Goodfriend is my favorite local hangout. The patio is cool (and cool) even in summer. The bar inside is wood, polished by countless elbows, to a mirror shine. The restaurant is dark and cool, which is a welcome respite when coming in from the brutal summer sun! Plus, there is a loungy area on the other side, perfect for a casual conversation, or a local meeting. The drinks are cold, and they have dozens of local brews on tap. My go-to favorite for dinner is a burger called Morning Glory. It's got a fried egg on it! And I like to sub the lamb patty, so it's an amazing combination of flavors. They have wonderful waffle fries, in russet or sweet potato, and they offer fried pickles and green beans! I love this place!

Ok Burger, Service Issues

By Paul P |

Went to Goodfriend last night based on reviews. I don’t understand the hype. Decor is basic dive bar which is what I expected. It was too hot to sit outside on the beer garden, but must say it is one of the ugliest in Dallas. All concrete and overlooking the parking lot. Maybe one of the issues is that they have all day happy hour on Monday. The place was packed and our server was working hard but had too many tables. An annoying start; they did not have the first THREE beers I selected from the extensive menu. We ordered fried pickles as an app and they were very good but the portion was tiny. The menu indicates burgers are cooked to medium unless otherwise requested. Mine was definitely well done. All of the juice and taste was long gone. Also, it seemed to take forever to get our order. Maybe so we would order more beer? (It worked) I will say that the patty melt that my wife ordered was excellent. I should have ordered that. It was juicy and had a great spicy sauce on it.

Great burgers and beer

This is a fairly typical burger and beer place, but the menu is really good and the burgers are outstanding. They carry a good selection of locally brewed beers with knowledgeable wait staff to help you decide.

Neighborhood Bar - Great Beer Great Food

By Voltiguer1 |

Visited with an old friend this neighborhood pub located in a strip shopping center on a Friday Afternoon. Expert Bartender Carlos helped us with each drink selection. Many unusual and interesting choices. Some beers are being Randalled and infused with habanero, etc. Interesting selections. Food is pub food but a little more upscale. Loved jalapeño chicken sandwich with cucumbers and cream cheese spread. There is an outdoor patio beer garden located in front of the restaurant where dogs are welcome. I'll be coming back

wish I lived closer

My wife had the blue cheese burger while I had the mushroom. She felt the blue cheese was a little too salty, but otherwise great. The fries were tasty too. There is a wide selection of beers, as well. A heated outdoor patio adds to the atmosphere. The staff were all very kind and attentive. Yes parking will be tough and it's not a sports bar, so their one TV will no cut it, but my burger was great and I definitely will be back again. A cool local burger/bar.

East Side Burger

By bethannmahan |

The East Side Burger at Goodfriend's was fantastic. Probably one of the best burgers I've had in the area. The cheese fries are also pretty up there. Portion sizes seem to be large, you can split the fries. They have a great atmosphere and a dog friendly patio. Good spot!

Outstanding burger

By AdrockDallas |

We had the traditional burgers with white cheddar and horseradish pickles. We had one medium, their standard, and one medium rare. All locally sourced Texas beef, great condiments, outstanding beer selection. Plenty of seating with a mist cooled patio. No crazy lines like many other DFW high ranked burgers. We'll be back!

Another Trendy Beergarden, Average but Pricey

By TimShivers |

I went to Goodfriends on the reccomendation of a good friend because I was looking for a nice patio to have drinks and a meal. This place meets all of those requirements but doesn't do anything special. It is your typical trendy beergarden with junk art and raw wood tables and chairs. The place is crowded but welcoming. The staff is too cool for school but gets the job done. You will have to be patient as they operate on their schedule. This has become the expected service at these popular places, where they have more customers than they can handle and don't really care if you come back. Atmosphere is ok, but nothing special, the patio is the parking lot and you will not be looking at anything pretty besides the beautiful young people that make up most of the customer base. Again, this is typical for Dallas as there are not a lot of beautiful vistas to be found anywhere. They put up reclaimed materials on the walls and some ironic event posters, but it gives the place the right feel and meets expectations. The have plenty of craft beers on tap and from the bottle, lots of good choices and rotators. I did find it hard to compare beers and prices, but I knew what I wanted to drink so it didn't really matter. If you are not familiar with the craft brew scene it might be challenging to order what you enjoy. My girlfriends bloody mary was ok, but nothing special. The food was definitely good and they had some interesting options that make dining fun. My burger was cooked well with Brie and an egg, lots of flavor. My girlfriends salad was large enough for a meal with a variety of greens and chopped vegetables. But again, this is really only average for the price. There are so many of these places popping up in DFW that if you like the beergarden experience you owe it to yourself to try Goodfriends. If you are patient and out for a leisurely good time you will not be disappointed, but I suspect that you will probably find another that you prefer more.

Fun place, outdoor seating

By bauercat |

We stopped for an after work beer on a Friday afternoon. The outdoor seating fills up fast, so grab a table early, if you can. The patio really just overlooks the parking lot, but it's still nice. We had excellent service who was extremely knowledgable about the various types of beer. Goodfriend has an excellent beer menu plus lots of great bar food. We shared fried pickles and some really good queso. Goodfriend is a great place to stop for a drink, especially if you want to sit outside.

Great place for a beer and burger

By russkwtx |

This is great hole in the wall in East Dallas where they have a constantly changing selection of craft beers. The burgers are great too. It gets really busy because it fills a huge need in East Dallas. Main downside is very limited parking.

Fun place

By Bob |

Fun place with good cold beer – craft, draft, and bottled. Other drinks too. Our burgers were fantastic! Service very good. Very popular and loud. Drawback is they don't have menus. You have to use your smartphone so to see the entire menu you have to enlarge text and scroll all around.

Great Neighborhood Spot

By Mi-Dan20 |

This is a great neighborhood restaurant. The menu is mostly salads & burgers with extensive beer selections. The only appetizer we like is the queso and we always get the mixed fries with our burgers. It has a bar area, indoor & outdoor seating (people bring their dogs & sit outside), lots of families and friends gather here so it is loud and can be really crowded. The parking is limited so if we go in the evening we always arrive early to avoid the crowds and to park close by. It is a perfect spot for an easy dinner and drink without having to get dressed up for dinner.
