Excellent food, warm service

By Higherin |

Flavorful vegan food, well prepared and served. Fresh organic meal at very affordable prices. Great buffet! The atmosphere is very positive and calm.

Very good vegetarian!!

By Sealife1960 |

I really enjoyed eating at Govinda's. The buffet was only $8 per person. I am not sure if everything was organic, but the vegetables were fresh and tasty. My favorite item was dessert. It was almost like a farina with raisins and cinnamon. Delicious!!! Everyone we encountered there was super nice and helpful. I will return when I visit LA again. They have a gift shop that carries items from Nepal and Tibet. I loved walking around through their store.

Great Food, Great Value

By Tamohara |

One of the best places to eat in LA. With a wide variety of vegan/vegetarian options. It's a buffet that cost only $8 for all you can eat. The food it tasty which would guarantee you having a second helping.

Healthy Food for a Great Price

By pagesixtyone |

I went to Govinda's with two people to try the $8 dinner buffet. We had salad with a variety of toppings, fruit, hummus, curry and rice, soup, and various side dishes. (We were told that not all of the dishes are organic.) One of the people in our party is a big meat-eater, but he was halfway through his meal before he realized there was no meat! The restaurant was very clean and the people working there were friendly. There are two dining rooms; one of them has booths. Parking spaces on the street may be hard to find, but there is a small parking lot for the restaurant on the left side of the building; it has a one-hour limit.

Always Great Vegan Food at Great Value

I’ve been going here for years and the food quality is consistently GREAT. The food is grown, harvested, and served under prayer and intention. You can feel the life energy as you consume it.

Great buffet, good food, great price

By Lisa Lalita |

Whether you are vegetarian or not, you wont be disappointed by taking time out to visit Govindas. If you travel by metro (Culver Citystop, Expo line), it is then a few blocks walking or the bus stops nearby. If driving, it is an easy place to find with street parking out front or close by. Its situated on the corner of Watseka Ave & Venice Boulevard. Look for the large pink/white sign with blooming bushes underneath it stating "Hare Krisnhna" or the big pink buildings. Govindas LA has a good reputation and it lives up to it. The buffet at time of writing this review costs 8USD all you can eat. There are special drinks, samosas and dessert cake available at an extra cost. There are a variety of salads to choose from, fresh fruit, dressings, rice, soups, fresh made cheese, tofu, indian inspired curries, savouries, bread and other vegetable dishes to suit many tastes. You can choose to go healthy or get in a carb fix if simply cant resist the temptation before your eyes. I have been to a number of Govindas restaurants around the globe and LA has many options to choose from, also catering to vegan diets. Dont worry if you are a vegetarian or not, go there, try it out and taste for yourself. You wont leave unsatisfied. Its open Mon-sat from 11am-3pm + 5-8.30pm I was there during the week at 11.30am. The outdoor seating area with umbrellas for shading is relaxing and being off the main road, a break from the hustle and bustle. They have a museum about philosophy (closed for renovations when i visited) and if you are curious, take off your shoes and step in to the temple, the big pink building next door (visitors are welcomed & no, you wont get hassled by anyone). This place was amazing to see and I am glad I went in to look. Before 12.30 is a good time but I heard in the afternoon around 4pm also is good. If you are looking for a gift or simply want to spend some time browsing, upstairs via the the restaurant entrance is an indian inspired boutique with clothes, jewellery, books, cards, you name it! Watch out though, you may feel the temptation to buy something. :-) In all I am glad that I took the time to visit. The food is simple, fresh and you know exactly what you are getting or if in doubt just ask! The staff are helpful and friendly, serving with a smile which to me is important.

Great vegetarian and vegan fresh food

By Paresh P |

Nice place to eat, also do takeaways, $8 buffet was excellent value for money. Good selection of drinks and herbal teas. All the food was prepared fresh on site and tasted great. Nice chilled ambience. We also went to the spiritual museum next door which is worth a visit. Opens at 11am.

Yummy!

Govinda's has a great salad bar and buffet, and the desserts are even better! The halava in the buffet, laced with carob (a healthier cocoa), was out of this world! I can still taste it. . . . Although a buffet, the service at this restuarant was amazing, especially the wonderfully sweet and considerate lady at the register. We were traveling that night and she made up a great travel pack for us with all sorts of goodies while we ran a few errands. When we came back (after closing), she had it waiting for us all neatly wrapped and packed. A great value, great food, great atmosphere, and a great staff. Next door, there is a beautiful Indian temple with exquisite wood carving and artwork. Above the restaurant, they have a great boutique that is apparently a haunt for celebs and costume designers from the film studios nearby.

So good

By aaa |

Super good vegan food! Even if you don't know if you like vegan food I promise this is so good, it's really worth it.

Go here (If you haven't been to the Mumbai ISKCON)

By Misspai |

Actually, I think I'm being biased because I've been to the original ISKCON temple in Mumbai (Which is GORGEOUS by the way!), and the food choices are too many to name here. The Govinda's here serves ok food. not too many options. But that also might be because I'm Indian, so I expect more from restaurants serving Indian food. Overall, not bad, but not great either. Yes, Value for money for sure.

Great Food and ambiance!

By abbtech1179 |

A hidden gem in the West Los Angeles!! Their All you can eat buffet is really healthy and delicious. You can always find dishes that are unique and blend tastes from multiple regions around the world!! Setting is very laid back and you have option to sit in or eat out on the patio!! Great Place and a Must Visit for new-comers as well as daily locals!!

The food here was spectacular, the price was inexpensive and the vibe was the best part. Do yourself a favor and have lunch here. Parking can be tricky, but it's worth it

Don't walk, Run!

By violettesoleil |

Govinda's is one of those places that you can eat daily and feel like you are getting something new, healthy and nourishing everytime! I was working for a time at one of the studios across the street and decided to get the meal card for Govinda's. As I started to come several times a week, I would see familiar faces . This casual, cafeteria style eatery became like a college dorm kitchen where I just sat down and started a conversation with whomever was there. Upstairs is one of LA's most remarkable boutiques for Indian clothing, jewelry, incense and more. Next door to the restaurant and store is a temple where people worship and chant. Truly a unique and special place!

Vegetarian delight

By Xenajay |

The All-you-can eat buffet costs only $8 .very good vegetarian fare for that price.puri/pulav/curries& plenty of salad options. Obviously,it is quite popular locally. There was a steady stream of people popping over to order takeaways. Not very spicy, a bit on the milder side. Worth going there if you are in the neighbourhood. There are tables both inside the building & in the open area outside.

Not a standard commercial enterprise.

By Mathew S |

I love Govinda's. I've been eating there since the mid eighties. Back then it was on the main street . Now it is off that main street. The people are nice . The food is fresh and vegetarian. The bread if good and apparently made on the premises. The potato salad is a stand out the the dahl with rice is the best thing on the menu. I've always liked their desert. I eat here to get away from all the commercial restaurant food and meat.

Geniunely Delicious and Great Value in the Area

By LadyLiza |

Govinda's is a solid vegetarian buffet when you are looking to get a fill of salad with dressing, rotating and continually prepared hot food, fresh dessert and even add on a vegan cupcake or a samosa to your buffet delight. Open for breakfast and lunch and suitable for families or on a solo run. I've enjoyed every meal I've had at Govinda's!

Lord Krishna Temple & Good food

By Reddy55_usa |

Awesome Lord KRISHNA temple, you can have prayers in evening time and Also veg food is very nice and affordable. You can have peace of mind there...

One visit was enough...

By travelbugsick |

We decided to try Govinda's in our home town after having good food at the Govinda's in Sydney on a recent trip. I don't think we will return and would not recommend the food. It was not very flavorful and just not that good. The price is great ($8) for the buffet, all you can eat, but we didn't even want seconds. Also, parking is tough.

Very nice Indian vegetarian food. Reasonable Prices.

By Divinepeace |

Large selection of Salad. Nice Traditional Indian Vegetarian food. Restaurant is next to Hare Krishna Temple.

Excellent Food

By TracyLJudy |

Great vegetarian restaurant-"Govindas"

By Hospitality-Ajay |

We visit this Facility often. The food is simple and delicious. It has fresh ingredients and a good choice for vegetarian folks. They also have a nice temple on the location. I especially like the all attractive deities of Sri Sri Rukmini Dwarakadhish. The temple hall is decorated with very nice colorful pictures of Hindu Gods. The ambience of the place is charged with positive vibes and spirituality. We love this Govindas vegetarian food. We highly recommend this facility to all vegetarian food seekers and experts.

Good Govinda's

By Chrisounds |

I was here for Ratha Yatra and it was quite busy but the food was good and reasonably priced as always!

Very delicious if you are for eating

By Baba J |

If for those who arrive now at time to say yes, now is time for wholesome eating, eating such as will make ghoppis who never were touched by man giggle with attractiveness to he who is supreme-attractive. YES!! Eat Govinda

Wonderful and meditative

By william g |

Go there frequently to recharge psychic energies in times of strife. It is far from where we live but worth the time going there to repeat the long ago learned mabreak: I can fast, I can think, I can wait. Well, exclude the fasting for the food is delicious. I think the services are beautiful and the Beatles were there once back in the day

Terrific Vegetarian Food

By Cavydad |

We had a tour of the Krishna temple and a great meal at the Govinda restaurant. The halvah, very different than halvalh sold in Jewish delis, it was more of a sweet couscous. The salads were aslo tasty. My favorite was the curry saue and rice and the steamed vegetables. The ginger beer is a good way to top off the meal. Some people gripe about the setting. The restaurant is in a residential neighborhood and is part of the Krishna Center. eating here is part of the experience of visiting the Krishna community. If you are expecting McDonalds or Chilis go elsewhere. The restaurant is popular with people working in the movie studios nearby.

"A must visit when in L.A."

By Diane G |

Great selections of appetizers, salads, entres and deserts for everyone but especially for Vegetarians and Vegans. Wonderful atmosphere, spotlessly clean and friendly staff. Great gift shop up stairs and if your in the mood a meditative spirit in the Hare Krishna Temple next door. A must visit when your in LA of Venice Beach.

A transcendental experience!

By Balaramaji |

What a find! A vegetarian restaurant (with many vegan choices). Food is prepared in loving service to Lord Krsna. What could be better? Really nice workers, lots of variety, freshness abounds.
