Ambiance, food and service - above average!

By WorldTravellerBC |

We chose Gracie's for a late night dinner after a long day flying to Portland and we were very happy with our decision. This restaurant is in a spectacular older hotel - Hotel Deluxe - which had a nostalgic/modern vibe both at the same time. The restaurant was more "old school" with semi-circular booths and regular tables for diners. Beautiful setting with high ceilings and windows. Service was personable with our waiter making suggestions. We chose two crab appetizers and both were good but the portions were not large. The Halibut Fish & Chips was good but the main that we truly enjoyed (we shared) was the Spaghetti & Meatballs (we chose the Bolognese sauce). Cocktails were sublime. Cost - in the higher side but appropriate for the setting and service. Summary - we were happy diners!

Pleasant afternoon tea

By RetroFan |

The restaurant is located in a beautiful old hotel and their dining room is an elegant place to enjoy tea on a rainy afternoon. The piano music was a nice touch—even if it was operated by an ipad instead of a human. The server first showed us a box containing their selection of tea from which to choose. When I reserved the table, I selected gluten free sandwiches and regular scones (rather than have corn muffins). The food was attractively presented and tasty. The afternoon tea was fairly expensive but classic and we enjoyed it.

Superb!

We were looking for a place to celebrate our 30th anniversary and Gracie's was listed as a restaurant that was "Popular Now". The setting looked lovely and the prices seemed reasonable so we made a reservation. I'm happy to report that our expectations were exceeded at this lovely dining spot! The atmosphere is old school sophisticated with white marble tables, low back chairs, tall ceilings and cozy looking banquettes. They offer a number of delicious sounding signature cocktails as well as a few "mock-tails" which my under 21 year old son appreciated. I recommend the "Rose City Drop", it was exquisite! The dinner menu is varied and divided into 3 sections: Soup/Salad, Modest, Substantial. The following dishes we ordered were excellent: beet salad, double wedge salad, sizzling forest mushrooms, chimichurri steak, trout almondine and the crab grilled cheese. The 2 dishes that we thought could be tweaked just a little to make them excellent were: the fig & arugula salad and the tomato bisque that came with the crab grilled cheese. Instead of dried figs in the salad, I think fresh figs would have been better and my husband thought the tomato bisque was a bit too thick with too much of a spice to it. We, unfortunately, did not save room for dessert so that review will have to wait. As for service, our waiter was great! I gave Gracie's 4 stars for service because we stood at the front podium for almost 10 minutes before someone came out to greet and seat us.

Always a favorite

We ate here as part of a group of 12. They were able to easily split the check. Our waitress was great. The food, as always was great.

Great steak and deserts.

Food was good and a little different, I had a chimichurri steak and it was awesome. Great atmosphere.

Breakfast

By CousinCathy |

Nice big breakfast, reasonably priced. Beautiful setting and good service. Our waiter was very attentive.

Early breakfast...

By Toni C |

We had an early flight and Gracie's was open at 6:30 which was perfect. A little pricey but the quantity/quality of food made it worthwhile. Oh, and get the fresh squeezed OJ. Wonderful!

Very Elegant

By 03Val48 |

Our dinner here was not the best food we've ever had, but it was tasty and perfectly acceptable, and the service was attentive and low key. The thing that sets Gracie's apart is the elegance of the setting. You will feel like you've been transported to an elegant tea room in Europe! A visit is worth the price just to look around and feel special and pampered. And it's location near the theater makes it a good choice for dinner before a play.

Afternoon Tea

By forrena |

Took a chance that they would have a cancellation, they did. They seated us and I enjoyed a pot of Lord Bergamot Tea. They served a variety of tea sandwiches. My favorites being the salmon and cucumber. Especially enjoyed their James Beard Vidalia onion sandwich. Scones with clotted cheese and jam was the bomb. Pastries were also delectable. Lots of food, wonderful service. A nice Sunday afternoon experience

Beautiful and classy dining room, jazz music, incredible and moderately priced food -- what a pleasure!

Old world charm and elegance

By drkiki2015 |

Two years now for dinner after a local Advent service, we very much enjoy Gracie's. The menu is varied with small and large plates, something for everyone. The quality of the food was beautiful and the service superb (thank you, Jordan!). The ambience is gracious and elegant, perhaps a bit stuffy for some, but for those of us with aging ears, the quieter setting is lovely. There were 6 of us seated at an oval shaped table which also enhances the dining experience. The value of our meals seemed quite good for a Sunday supper, but while there, I inquired about Christmas Eve dinner. A $75 pris fixe seems a bit excessive with only a 50% discount for children (we'll have a 5 year old with us)--though I'm sure the food will be wonderful, we won't be going to Gracie's on December 24.

Wonderful celiac safe brunch!

By Nicole T |

Wonderful food, beautiful space, and excellent service. Erin was super helpful and provided lots of advice on gluten free food options. Great place for celiacs!

Wonderful celebration place

By Tricia P |

Wonderful location for our daughters birthday celebration. Service was gracious even adding a candle to her dessert. Our meals were delicious from the delicately dressed salads to the risotto, forest mushrooms and chimichuri steaks. All exceptional!

Beautiful, Historic Room - Spotty Food!

By TLJ4 |

Located in the hip DeLuxe hotel, this room recalls a time when hushed conversations and glittering chandeliers were the mark of discrete elegance. (I'm not that old, but I've watched a lot of movies!) The room is great. The food was all over the place from refined to mediocre to just plain poorly executed. Here's my recommendation - skip the over-rated Driftwood lounge, have a drink or bottle of wine at Gracie's for the ambience, and move to the next venue for the food!

The worst

By Elaine D |

Lovely ambience, limited menu offering American cuisine. Service and food was most undesirable. Our waitress was lovely, but did not sem to have had training on being a good waitress..Shrimp and crab cakes were not overly tasty and should not be deep fried. My friend ordered a beet salad, not knowing, nor told that a salad came with her main course. The restaurant was virtually empty but we had to pour our own wine.

Must visit

By Heather P |

Our service was wonderful. We never felt rushed, yet everything was placed in front of us before we could ask for it. The food was delicious and our server Erin made our experience top notch.

Nice...quite nice....

By GoGoBear |

It is so nice when you have your expectations EXCEEDED.... :-) Found this place on Open Table when looking for a 1000 point dining spot during our overnight stay in Portland. The restaurant is located inside a boutique hotel (I honestly could not tell you which one as we weren't staying there and there was not much in the way of signage at all), and fits with the overall theme of the property; vintage, upscale, with a wee bit of Hollywood "glamour". On the night we dined there was a group of seven that weren't terribly subdued, but I did get the impression that most nights it is probably pretty quiet...in fact, to be fair the group of seven wasn't in appropriately loud...just the rest of the room was so hushed...lol. The service was a bit slow...you get get the feeling the are a bit understaffed, but very pleasant. No issues there at all. The food was nice...perhaps beyond that...let's go with "lovely". Opened with a wedge salad split between the two of us; it was perfectly fine, especially the anchovies we asked for, which were divine! Our second course was a shared plate of Crap and Shrimp Cakes severed with mixed greens; again, not necessarily world class, but absolutely fine, perfectly meeting expectations if not exceeding them. For our mains I had the Lamb Shank, while my partner / date had the trout. The trout was on par with the first two courses...beyond good, not quite great, but more on that in a moment. The lamb? It was in face "great". Not the best I have ever had ever, but I couldn't tell you when that was. It was tender, flavorful, everything you could ask. The side of something I can't remember the name of (it was sort of like Risotto, but it wasn't that) was very good as well. Really enjoyed my main (we split each of the mains and shared those as well). Back to the trout; perfectly fine, no problems whatsoever, but not the best I have ever had EVER. But MAN, what a value! $13 was the price on the menu, and I was sure that was a typo when I saw it, though I didn't ask. Sure enough however, when the check came $13 was the charge. Considering the quality of the entree and the setting it was served in, that might be the dining bargain of the century... The best compliment *I* can pay a restaurant is to say the dining experience was memorable, and that I would make a point to return if given opportunity. Both absolutely apply in this case,...we don't get to Portland very often, but I think we have found a place to dine at regularly on those occasions when we do. A quite nice meal that becomes REALLY nice when you factor in the cost. So pleased to have found Gracie's!

Great food

By kepop |

This was a cute restaurant with good variety and nice size mama bear portions. It is a popular restaurant but we were seated quickly and the service was excellent.

Usually perfect, but this time it was a little off

By PALTravel |

We always go to Gracie's for my Mother's Birthday (and a late Mother's Day). The classic old-glamor setting never disappoints and the old-classics background music is lovely.. My mother had her favorite "Thieles Original" german pancake as she fondly remembers going to Henry Thieles for special dinner as a child. I always order the salmon bagel with cream cheese, tomato, cucumbers, capers and red onion. A huge chunk of lox that would make a great appetizer later in the afternoon. Service was off and not very attentive, but we always appreciate the no-rush service that allowed us to talk while leisurely eating our meal. Valet parking is appreciated and complimentary with your meal ... just a tip to the valet for the great service.

Not so lovely

By David B |

I waited 45 minutes for a bland baked chicken with cold rice and vegetables that was like something you'd get at a hospital cafeteria. My companions liked their meals, but I won't be back. There are too many great restaurants in Portland.

Classic restaurant that takes you back to a different time

By redningja |

Very Classy all around from the decorations to the staff. Had the Salmon hash. Very tasty. Orange juice was fresh squeezed and very good. 2nd time I went, I had the vegetable hash, which wasn't as good as the salmon hash, but still enjoyed it.

Top Notch Service!!

By Jessica J |

I received some if the best service EVER from Erin yesterday. I just sat down when I got a text saying that my ride was on the way to pick me up. Erin arrived at the same moment and I said I wasn't able to stay, that I didn't have enough time. Erin asked how long I had, I told her about 20 minutes, and she told me she would make sure I got fed and out within that time frame. Sure enough, she had an omelet in front of me within about 3 minutes and left the check, too, so I wouldn't have to wait for it. I was full and had paid with 2 minutes to spare before my ride showed up! Not only was the customer service top notch, the food was amazing, too. Thanks for a memorable and fantastic experience, Erin!

The Old Place Ain't What She Used To Be

By restats |

We ate there on Tuesday, 3/16/16 and because the many restaurants in do the Portland Monthly special of a three course dinner for $29 that was the only choice. Other restaurants give you this as a possibility or an a la carte menu as well. There were four and because the choices were so limited, we asked if there some alternatives and sadly, there were none even though the waiter thought there would be. You must realize that we have been here at least twice a month for ten years or longer and we have seen the food quality and choices change, sometimes better and sometimes not so good but this time it was a great disappointment. The specials were almost tasteless. We will be hard pressed to return even though it is so convenient to the Artists Repertory Theatre Hub.

car broken into in lot for parking

By LaurettaYoung |

the food and service were great but we parked in the lot across the street. reportedly due to security out in front of hotel. When we got back to cars my friends window broken and glass everywhere. Security guard then said the parking lot is not his purview even though it says "Gracies parking".

Afternoon Tea at Gracie's in Portland

By margo_hutchinson |

On Father's Day we went to Gracie's Restaurant in the DeLux Hotel in Portland, OR for afternoon tea. They just started in November 2015. It was awesome, wonderful Smith's Teamaker teas and great food made by local folks. The staff were very helpful and kind. We got valet parking and found out we could get a voucher at the restaurant so it was free! This is a wonderful experience for family and friends, we had five in our party. Sandwiches, scones and baked items where all wonderful! Reservations are required! Reservations for afternoon tea should be made from Yelp. For a few dollars more you can have a cocktail or champagne.

Beautiful Room, Solicitous Service, Spotty Food

By TLJ4 |

This is an elegant room, nicely resorted. An entirely gracious experience. It is a particularly good choice if you enjoy conversation with dinner, since it is possible to hear people speaking - and not necessary to raise one's voice. The food, on the other hand, was very variable. I thoroughly enjoyed the crab cakes, but one of my companions though little of a salad she ordered. Same with entrees. In fairness, it may have been an off night, or our party might have chosen unwisely. The wine list is thoughtful and compact, and the desserts were fantastic.

Valentines Day Dinner

By halterl77 |

We read reviews of Gracie's, before making reservations here. It was our 30th wedding anniversary, and we wanted a restaurant with romantic ambiance. There were mixed reviews on Yelp as far as the food and service, but we decided to give it a try anyway. It was a last-minute trip to Portland, and it was the only dining reservation we could find on three days notice for that holiday. We absolutely loved it. Both the food and service were superb. It was a fixed menu for Valentine's Day, with choices from each category. We had an amazing appetizer of shrimp and grits. My husband commented that he could eat that again for dessert. It was a huge portion size - large blackened prawns. I am from the south, and I have never had shrimp and grits that looked or tasted like that before. Just amazing. I could have stopped after that and been satisfied. I had duck in cherry sauce as the main course and it was cooked perfectly, wonderful sauce, delicious candied carrots on the side. My husband had a fish dish that was Asian inspired - it was also wonderful. The desserts weren't so great, but we were so full we didn't really care. I had the banana cream pie, which they order from Pacific Dessert Company. The bananas were overly ripe and brown, and the crust was mushy/soggy. The banana cream pie at Shari's is much better - maybe they should get it from there next time! My husband had a flourless chocolate cake and it was not moist and not very tasty. The rest of the meal was so superb that we are definitely willing to overlook that and go back again. I would give five stars if it weren't for the desserts. The ambiance was wonderful. It is a beautiful old hotel. We got there a little early, and enjoyed sitting in the beautiful lobby while we waited for our dining time. The piano player in the restaurant was a wonderful touch. Our service person was fabulous and attentive, discussing dishes, checking on us - even asking if we wanted to have coffee and more time before dessert, even though they were fully booked. She also took a great picture of us! We were discussing all the fine dining experiences we have had after years of living in Seattle, and with many trips - San Francisco, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Charleston, New York City, etc. This definitely ranks as one of the best fine dining experiences in memory, in terms of food and ambiance. It was a wonderful way to commemorate an anniversary. We will definitely go back there next time we are in Portland.

Delicious Meals in a Lovely Setting

I'm not usually a fan of hotel restaurants, but Gracie's is a gem. We had great service and loved the dishes. The warm wilted spinach salad was especially good.

Another Fantastic Experience For Valentines Day...

By Jim H |

Last year my wife and I visited Gracie's for Valentines Day dinner. The experience last year was fantastic so we wanted to try them again and were not disappointed. We made our reservation a month in advance so we were able to get a table for an early dinner. This year's menu was completely different from last years. We arrived about an hour early and had drinks in the lounge across from the restaurant. The Valentines Day menu is limited, but very interesting. I ordered the Lobster Pot Pie and my wife ordered the Duck. The Lobster Pot Pie was fantastic. The crust was flaky with a lot of Lobster and veggies stuffed under it. My wife enjoyed her Duck and of course I had to sample it. I'm not much on Duck, but could have easily enjoyed what she had. Overall, we have always received excellent service and food at Gracie's and we recommend the restaurant as often as we can.

Erin was fantastic

By Jeffrey B |

Erin was our server and she was phenomenal. Very friendly, courteous, and perfectly timed the meal. Her personality and friendliness made an already awesome meal even better. Heartily recommend the German pancakes from the original recipe of Henry Thiele's restaurant.

Love going for tea!

My husband and I love going to Gracies for their tea! We usually visit around our anniversary and it's almost become a tradition for us!

Hotel is nice and restaurant always has good food

It was bad quite a few years back but it has been consistently good for years and years now. Eggs are never runny, parfait is great! Keep up the good work!

Great Breakfast and Thanks Erin

We spent the night at the Hotel de Lux and had breafast here. We received a $15 credit which was nice. The breakfast was great and our server Erin was fabulous.

Breakfast and room service

By JCBarker |

The setting in the dining room is lovely, white table cloths, chandeliers, lovely glassware. The scrambled eggs were delicious and creamy, best I've had in a restaurant. Also, the strawberry jam tasted just like my mother's freezer jam. Waiter was great and unobtrusive and attentive. Room service also wonderful for breakfast. The fruit dish was great with a variety of fruits one doesn't often see in a restaurant.

Excellent New Year's Brunch.

By Julie S |

Six women met for NY day brunch. The staff was attentive and let us stay and chat an hour after we were done. Very old school elegance.

Breakfast at Gracie's

By TellTruth2016 |

We were on the TriMet, and wanted to stop for breakfast. On line we found Gracie's. The location is in a old grand hotel, and Gracie's in their dining restaurant. Great décor and white linen was the setting. We ordered Lobster Omelets, Hash Salmon, and a couple of coffees. What a nice place, and we want to come back for dinner and a great glass of wine in this setting of the old grand hotel.

Gracie's is delicious

By Elaine M |

My husband and I enjoy going to Gracie's because the personnel are always welcoming and the food is unique and tasty.

Anniversary dinner

By Laura A |

We went to Gracie's for our anniversary. On Monday's they offer all their bottles of wine at half price. The mushroom appetizer was amazing. I was very happy with the lamb shank, tender and full of flavor, and large portion. My husband had the flank steak, it had great flavor but it was a little tuff. We shared an espresso cheese cake. Our waiter offered excellent recommendations and was attentive.

Grace and Elegance at Gracie's

By OCOzzie |

Gracie's, in the DeLuxe in downtown Portland, continues the classic Old Hollywood vibe of the hotel. High ceilings, classic decor, attentive service, and acceptable noise level, even though we were there on St. Patrick's Day, all made for a very nice evening. Since we were there during Portland Dining Month, a special menu was available for a set price. I started with a warm escarole salad, followed by shrimp & grits, and ending with seared scallops. All of the dishes were prepared just to my liking. I hope the shrimp and grits will remain on the menu as I would go back just for that. My husband had a gem salad with anchovies (he loves them!), a crab fondue, and miso glazed sablefish which he pronounced among the best dishes he has ever eaten. My only complaint about the evening was that we went into the bar to get a drink before dinner and were ignored by the wait staff there, so we placed our drink orders at dinner and were served promptly. My standard cocktail, a lemon drop martini, was very good - no skimping on the sugar rim. The hotel has valet parking and a MAX light rail stop is not far away. Would be nice for a meal and drink before or after a Timbers soccer game at Providence Park, just up the street. I wouldn't guarantee the quiet ambience with a room full of soccer fans, but the food will be just as good.

Excellent Breakfast

By Michael S |

Atmosphere is classy - the decor is Hollywood - the Brown Derby. Service was excellent. The waiter, Terry, was attentive and made the experience quite pleasant. Location is at the west end of downtown Portland.

Not worth the price

By Judith T |

We went for the seasonal High Tea which cost $65.00 each. The venue is lovely, the table set beautifully. Sadly the tea service is lacking. You are presented with your choice of tea in an individual silver pot, however there was no tea cozy so it gets cold very quickly. You are served a 3 tier tray with savories and sweets. There was way to much bread on the small sandwiches and way too much salt. Once you have finished the sandwiches the plate should have been removed and a clean one for sweets delivered. No one wants a sweet on a used plate. We had to ask for a clean plate and we were not supplied with clean flatware. Cream was severed with the tea instead of milk. You would never see this in a proper High Tea. The staff was very nice but not well trained. If you are going to charge $65.00 you should have been presented with a high quality product.

Wonderful food and service

By David20130609 |

Beautiful restaurant inside a hotel with excellent quiet dinning room. Each table/booth is far apart from one another, which makes for a quite dinning experience. Our food was perfect and the service was just right. Best for a night out as a couple.

Best afternoon tea in Portland

By amymmichel |

Today, my husband and I dined at Gracie's for champagne afternoon tea with our 8-year-old son to celebrate Valentine's Day. The dining room was very elegant with excellent, prompt, friendly service. We were seated near the piano player whose graceful music enhanced our visit. He took requests and chatted a bit with our son while he played. The tea was from local Smith teamaker. Five savory freshly made sandwiches were served. There were two types of small scones with English clotted cream and local marionberry jam. Four sweets from Petite Provence were last followed by Moonstruck Chocolate truffles.

Erin..best server ever

By Carrie C |

The food was great (Eggs Benedict and a German Pancake). The service was most Excellent! Erin was very busy and hustling yet still at ease. It is clear that Erin enjoys connecting with the customers and ensuring they have a positive experience. What a pleasant lovely human! How lucky is Gracie’s to have Erin. And how lucky are we to experience what great service looks like. Thank you, Erin!

Elegant Brunch, Outstanding Food

By Todd B |

My wife and I went to Gracie's for brunch this last weekend. It was our first trip to this historic icon, but it definitely wont be the last! The Hotel deLuxe was originally built in 1912 and was called the Hotel Mallory. The last major renovation was done in the late 1940's in the "Regency" style. The hotel itself has many Art Moderne' and Art Deco touches designed to emulate the glamour of the 1940's. The dining room is small, but mirrored walls make the space seem much larger. The curved booths are a unique decor feature, and along with elegantly crafted ceilings and crystal chandeliers, give the space a sense of elegance not seen in most of minimalist and semi-industrial architecture of today. We had a reservation (recommended because of the size) and were quickly seated. The waitstaff was attentive and professional. The offering of freshly squeezed orange juice reminded us of what oranges really taste like. I am a big fan of corned beef hash and try to order it whenever we go to a new place, so I was very pleased to see a couple of different styles of hash on the menu. I ordered the corned beef, and my wife had the smoked salmon hash. Our food was served with reasonable speed, particularly since a very large group was seated at the same time. My wife's meal was very good. The smoked salmon and capers were served inside of hash browned potatoes, which was a unique way to make certain that the smoked salmon did not overwhelm the palate. The corned beef hash was the best that I have ever had. That is really a huge statement, because I have had corned beef hash in restaurants all over the country. If you are a fan of this dish, I would highly recommend making a reservation and giving it a try. You will not be disappointed.

Good

By westley_evan256 |

Very impressive for a restaurant in a hotel. Alot more than you would expect. A little on the pricey side in a neighborhood that has good restaurants.

Gracie's never falls short

By ibweave |

What a delight to find that the German pancake can be ordered as a half: just enough for this old lady's breakfast. Dinner was terrific, and the background music the best!

Afternoon tea -- lovely experience

By shewholovestoeat |

This tea service is fairly new to Gracies. The selection of teas are local, which is very good. Local is better. We opted for the glass of bubbly too-nice touch. Not bad either. Food was very good. It arrived rather late, and one item was left off due to a kitchen problem. They substituted something else instead, very nice touch and topped off the champagnes--even better. Pastries were so good, as were the finger sandwiches. Service was good, nice explanations of the teas available. Decaf options are available by asking.

Classic menu well prepared and served by professionals.

By Thomas L |

Classic menu well prepared and served by professionals. Expect a nice variety of fare that is moderately priced and high in quality. An excellent value.

Absolutely Delicious

By samanthaf1963 |

Most hotel restaurants are just sort of okay. And some are even good. But Gracie's is great. Their self-named potatoes are stupendous, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I do not want to know the fat count. I had the Corned Beef Hash and found it absolutely irresistible, and had I not been at a meeting, I would have swallowed the whole thing and probably licked the plate. Fantastic!

Very friendly staff—great food!

By IrishWoman97333 |

We had a wonderful breakfast. Staff was excellent. Elegant dining room experience and convenient when staying at Hotel Deluxe. Highly recommend!

Big party of 10. Great service!

By Edgar B |

We were a party of 10 for breakfast. Great menu, inviting room, delicious food, lovely table. Outstanding service from Erin, our waitress!

An annual event for celebrations and they never disappoint!

By PALTravel |

We always go to Gracie's for Mother's, Sister's and Birthday celebration in May. The classic old-glamor setting never disappoints and this time we were there on the actual Mother's Day and a live pianist was delightful. My mother had her favorite "Thieles Original" german pancake, my sister had 1/2 a classic egg benedict (perfect size), and I had the smoked salmon bagel with cream cheese, tomato, cucumbers, capers and red onion. The special treat was the complimentary champagne to start our meal and then the friendly, un-rushed service that allowed us to talk while leisurely eating our meal. Valet parking is appreciated and Gracie's always impresses! See you next year.

High Tea

The high tea on a Sunday afternoon is a real treat. They have delicious sandwiches and pastries to pair with your choice of teas. Adding champagne makes the experience even better. The staff is awesome, always willing to bring more of your favorite choices to enjoy.

Great Breakfast place Right in the deLuxe Hotel

By Ed Z |

We ate breakfast at Gracie's and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had steel cut oatmeal and coffee with some fresh fruit, my wife had the yogurt and granola. Everything we had was excellent. Good service too. There were plenty of other breakfast options and they also offer complementary newspapers (Wall Street Journal, USA Today, local rags)

great place for breakfast or dinner

By Jennifer M |

I love gracie's. They have consistently good food for both dinner and breakfast and an amazing environment which makes it feel really special. Their booths are super comfy and the staff is always warm and welcoming. If there for dinner, try the gorgonzola cheesecake as a starter - delicious!

Gracie's

By Tom R |

Fine dining, short menu but something for everyone. The salmon was excellent, trout almandine very good. Service was ok, had to pry out what was on special. The deserts are killer. Try the flourless chocolate cake.... Wow.

Sunday brunch

By Jim Z |

I always enjoy Gracie's for the large Thieles German pancake with lemon, confectioners sugar and maple syrup. Few places make it well; but they do. And the setting is classic Northwest with a Hollywood flair. Just walking into the DeLuxe Hotel takes one make into the mid-50s, with high ceilings, elegant furnishings, gilded walls and chandeliers. The setting is great for a relaxed brunch.

Simple, delicious breakfast.

By vantravler |

We had a wonderful simple breakfast. The wait staff are very attentive, obviously very experienced. You can tell they love what they do. Good quality food and nice comfortable meal, without being too pricey given the hotel is so lovely!

I love Gracie's

By Brian B |

I have eaten at Gracie's twice, once for breakfast, once for lunch. It's such a classic room and the service and reasonably priced food are first rate. They even let me play their piano.

Exceptional

By David V |

My only complaint is it took longer than what I believe is reasonable to get our food. But everything else was very good high quality service and food.

Dinner disappointment

By BJJ73 |

We are locals and find Gracie’s to be a great place for breakfast or weekend brunch. But dinner tonight was a different experience. Sat down at six. Finally entrées arrived at eight. Meals served were from good to mediocre. Nothing served justified the price. Will be back for weekend breakfast but dinner? I don’t think so.

GREAT Service and Ambiance

By Paul S |

Went with friends for Sunday brunch which was good. Had the German Pancake which is better in the Original Pancake House. GREAT atmosphere (old fashioned vibe!) and service. Would definitely go back again, maybe for dinner. I would recommend Gracie's.

Should not be a one...should be none

By underwood.hagbu |

Should be none because we didn't eat. Showed up, actually made a special trip on our way out of town to try it, one table in the dining room, the hostess greeted us from across the room and proceeded to make us stand there while she bussed and set dirty tables. Never looking up and certainly acting as if she would rather have been stabbed than seat us! So we will go to one of the 3000 other restaurants in Portland, see ya!

Afternoon Tea

By macinoregon |

We've been going to Gracie's for Tea during the Christmas season for several years now. Our last dinner there (2016) was horrible (see my review). This year's tea was what I deem to be below average. The tea, was delicious. I had the Ho Ho Ho special blend. The tea sandwiches were good - not excellent but good. The scones, also decent but not exceptional. The desserts - Just not good. The flavors were overpowering - molasses and ginger. There was a tiny lemon raspberry tart that was too strong on the lemon. the Ginger cookies were overpowering in their Ginger. The toffee muffin was way too much molasses. The chocolate piece - avocado - chocolate mouse was, well, ick. It must be a hit because they keep serving it - but, ick. This is a $50 per person Afternoon Tea. Beautiful setting, as usual. Great service, although more hot water was very slow in coming. It is not what I would expect for a $50 tea. It has gone up $10 per person since we last attended. Really disappointed.

Multi-generational Gem

By Molly Jo M |

Looking for a pre theater dinner spot for 6 that included 3 "seniors", 2 adults and a teen, Gracie's was a real find. The dining room is lovely and well appointed but also laid out so that the older folks had no problems hearing one another and conversing. The booths are cozy and inviting. Jazz background music topped off the ambiance and a cocktail before dinner got everyone off to a good start. Because it was Portland Dining month, the menu was not large but with 6 diners, the restaurant was happy to accommodate special requests and substitutions (shellfish allergy easy switch to asparagus). All the dishes were excellent - scallops, chicken, crab fondue. We all shared delicious bread pudding for dessert and agreed it was fabulous. Service was efficient and pleasantly unobtrusive. We all left happy and easily on time for the play. It is increasingly difficult to find a spot like Gracie's that takes reservations, provides great service and really good food - the prices were reasonable as well. My only criticism is that Gracie's needs a coat check - for a casual dining spot, I don't mind throwing my rain jacket on a hook or coat rack myself, but if you dress for dinner and you have elderly folks with you, the host/hostess needs to take your coats away to a closet. We will be back for sure.

Highly overrated!

By Wayne Y |

I got to say this place definitely is not the Hollywood glamour as advertised. It’s really a just ok atmosphere. After we got the order in and promised special desert for our anniversary, salad dressing and bread were forgotten. We were rushed to finish and no special desert after all. Food is just ok but if you look for something special, it’s better to forgo this place.

Comfortable Vibe

I would return just for the room vibe. The fact that the food is outstanding is just a bonus. Give it a try.

Come and Experience the Mouth Watering Food & Wonderful Service!

By Carole C |

Dinner at Gracie's was a surprise for my birthday! First of all, Hotel Deluxe is beautiful and Gracie's continues the theme. The menu is varied and creative and the service was attentive and friendly. Jordan was our server and deserves accolades for setting the bar of how a server should be. We tried the Shrimp and Crabcakes for an appetizer...don't make the mistake of passing these up! Tender with an explosion of flavor in your mouth! Entrees were the Lobster pot pie with a flaky Phyllo dough and savory filling, and the Sole that had me at first bite. Dessert was the mousse made of avocado (not my favorite) and the S'more cheesecake. What a wonderful birthday dinner!

Very nice room

By Lee780 |

Excellent staff, good food, great ambiance, decent prices. Breakfasts and lunch were good, did not have dinner but menu looked okay.

Not as good and more expensive than prior visits

By Equus-or |

We have been to Gracie's many times. It is cozy and relaxing. In the past it has seemed to be more reasonably priced. This visit my husband ordered the Portland Dining Month menu, choosing a spinach salad (normally $12), it was quite small, then crab 'cakes' ($13), which turned out to be one small crab cake, and as a main course, the scallops ($28) which consisted of TWO large scallops artfully arranged with a few veggies and a sauce. We are light eaters, but this was a small meal even for us. I had the beet salad ($9) which was good and a little bigger than the spinach salad, plus roasted cauliflower ($9) which was drenched in a rather nasty sauce. This was a disappointing experience and things have changed enough I may not go back except perhaps for a cup of coffee and dessert. Speaking of which, they have a new pastry chef and the chocolate stout cake that was so good is now gone. Too bad as this has always been one of our favorite restaurants.

Best Breakfast

Would love to try the Elvis Pancakes with peanut butter and bacon, but so far eggs Benedict is my favorite. If you get Jeff as a waiter - it's your lucky day.

thoughtful waiter warms diner's porridge - and heart

By mike g |

it's the unexpected caring gestures that can make such a difference in life. it was a cool morning so i ordered oatmeal in gracie's, the hotel deluxe's dining room. when i asked for some milk to pour on the oatmeal, the server - on his own initiative - heated up the milk so it wouldn't make the porridge cold. a small detail, you say? but life is made up of such small details - good and bad. i made sure i thanked the server for his thoughtfulness. his smile warmed my breakfast experience and start to the day even more - in both a hotel and also city that rank right at the top of the "friendly" scale.

Breakfast is great!

By KatLittering |

We have enjoyed many great breakfasts at Gracie's. We love the atmosphere and because we are frequent guests they wait staff remember us. The food is consistently good and we always leave satisfied.

Poor service, okay food

By Jmb |

We're staying at the hotel and stopped here for breakfast. The service was really poor, taking a long time to get water/coffee, not refilling drinks, and not checking about how the food was, which my husband wanted hot sauce but never saw the server until we were finished eating. The table actually had coffee stains, it appeared they set the table without cleaning it first. The Mexican dish, which my husband had was good. I had the Gracies special with eggs, bacon, potatoes, and hash browns. The eggs done over medium were very salty and definitely over easy, but it is sometimes hard to get over medium. I had to ask for butter and jam for the toast, which the jam tasted slightly like strawberry jam, but it was unclear of the actual flavor. Not impressed, especially since their prices are also high for what you get, aalthough to be fair the portions were good sized.

Unusually Good Hotel Restaurant

By Bob S |

Much better than a hotel restaurant has to be. House-made sausage patties some of the most flavorful I have had since childhood on the farm. Potatoes Anna excellent--much better than other potato dishes. Good coffee but not Stumptown.

Everything was delicious!

By Family_Jules1969 |

I had the Huevos rancheros for brunch and it was perfectly spicy and a very large portion. The fresh squeezed orange juice was amazing too.

Breakfasts are The Best. Dinners could be improved

By Michael H |

With freshly squeezed orange juice, lottes and specialty coffees, 3 kinds of Benedicts, waffles, pancakes, eggs of all kinds, hash, various omlets, what more do you need? Good service, perhaps? They have the best: rapid, and super friendly. Dinners: the menu is large, surprisingly large for a small place, and I was disappointed with only one item, the Dover Sole, so this is not a definitive review. Sole, IMHO, should never be rolled up and served on top of al-dente vegetables. This fish, one of the great sea-food delicacies, deserves better than this. Desserts, tho (the 3 of us had 3 different: the fruit crumb cake - actually a rhubarb crumble with ice cream; the semi-freddo cheese cake; and the creme brulee.) were excellent, so we know they can do some things well, even very well.

Beautifully restored, excellent value, food and service.

By Larry R |

This is an old hotel that has been beautifully restored in a classic movie theme. Gracie's offers very good food, service and value in a pleasant setting. Wish staying in the rooms of the hotel was as good.

Awesome anniversary dinner

Great food, great service, easy location to get to, free valet. We had an awesome dinner date for our 30 year anniversary. We will be back.

Deeeelicious

Perfectly poached eggs over succulent salmon with light sauce. Great service and perfect meal. A treat to be able order a half order if this very rich offering.

Hidden gem!

By Andy U |

Gracie's has been flying under the radar and has been generally underrated, But each time I've been there, it's gotten better and better. A very comfortable place that is great for conversation. Elegant but not pretentious. And the food is excellent, with a great range of interesting selections, from small plates to full dishes.

Lovely surroundings for those with time

By PainAuChocolat17 |

Gracie's is inside the lovely art deco Hotel deLuxe. The service is excellent, the kitchen a bit slow. The food is well prepared - I had the Sunday-only prime rib which was delicious. My omelet the next morning was just ok, and I agree with a recent reviewer that the coffee was not great. No excuse for that in a restaurant this fine and a city like Portland.

Excellent food, wine, and service

By scott b |

I love risotto and this vegetarian serving with all sorts of fresh delicious vegetables was wonderful. Crushed pepper and my usual Tabasco sprinkle spiced it up to my Cajun liking. My waitress, Shaina, suggested a perfect compliment to the dish, a white wine ( Del Rio, I believe) along with fresh sourdough bread on the side. The large portion was most filling. Great meal, very reasonable, and I am duly impressed.

Great food & people watching

By KathieVee |

Feels like a throw back to the 50's. With comfy tables and booths. A bit upscale without pretentiousness. Walking into the lobby of the hotel, up a grand staircase, a slow changing giant picture framed in gold greets you...could be Marlon Brando and a grand dame or Bogart etc. Gracie's is off to the left. Greeters can be slow or right on target. The menu is fresh with just enough options that two or three will jump right out. You cannot go wrong! They make a perfect poached egg! Not vinegary. And lovely smoked trout. Beware the salads are shareable unless you are starving. Enjoy!

Our Go To Place

By restats |

Once again we went with friends for a relaxing dinner. The food is excellent. At this point we have eaten almost everything that is on the menu and we have enjoyed it all. We like the pies which come from Pacific Pie Company and this time they have my favorite, whiskey apple. The best part for us is that we can sit for as long as we want and not be asked to leave plus the waiter or waitress will keep serving us coffee. Everything about this place is comfortable and enjoyable.

Just changed menu

By KathieVee |

This has been a pretty reliable unchanged menu for a long time but just made a change to broaden their offerings. The dinner menu takes time to go over...lots of new options. Service is slow to superb depending on the server. Easily one of the best places in Portland for a quiet, easy meal with really pleasant atmosphere. Easy parking. Dover sole is perfect!

Full meal or dessert - it's all great!

By Gloria L |

We were introduced to this spot about a year ago. What a find! We love the gracious setting (pun intended) which the service mirrors. Food is typically excellent. Only one issue with our Thanksgiving meal last year (the rolled turkey dinner was dry and tepid). But other than that, every repast has been superior. Stopped in for dessert one evening and were well treated by our waiter. Yummy pie with ice cream... and deliciously decadent coffee. Couple months before, friends helped someone relocate to Portland and afterwards, every 'crew' member (10 of us) had dinner at Gracie's. In spite of not being in the 'best' form (we were clean & neat but certainly not spruced up as usual), we were welcomed and each meal was fantastic. Check them out -- they're a consistent and wonderful place to dine no matter what the occasion!

Kind of love this place

By fredSeattle_Wa |

The Deluxe is our Portland hotel and having a good restaurant in house is a great benefit for us. The room is elegant, the tables aren't crammed together so you can pull out your chair without backing up into the party behind you and you can actually have a conversation. The noise level is comfortable low buzz. The room is comfortable for a single but they often have parties of 12 and that works just as well. Nothing seems to disturb the staff and the great service, not stiff, not too formal but very, very professional. And the food is great, I had the lamb jam and really enjoyed it. Great place, take your client, your kids or your entire family and everyone will love it.

classic breakfast

By Debbie D |

nice breakfast , good service, old fashioned choices. Better than the trendy place downtown. We we lazy one morning and didn't walk to breakfast and were glad we did.

Like taking a trip back in time!

By Noel L |

The hotel and decor feel like a nostalgic trip, and Gracie's gives you a chance to linger and enjoy good food and drink while doing so. Sink into one of the comfortable chairs and sip an Elizabeth Taylor - why is it named that? Well, you'll just have to go there and find out for yourself!

Classy restaurant subclass service

By duohrs |

We arrived after a 3-4 hours flight on a Friday night, with not many guests in the restaurant, our order still took more than an hour to come and the lobster was over-cooked to the extent that you had a hard time to get the meat from the shell. The waitress apologized for shorthands but it appeared they have no problem to serve the bar or other function and maybe that is the reason why. Normally the management would try to compensate or make up such under service but we were offer nothing and we were just too tired to complain. It is a classy hotel and restaurant but the subpar service would not attract me to be back since there are plenty restaurant around the downtown. This would be the lowest rating I ever have given lately and it could ever to one dot if not because of the friendly waitress.

Recommended, but.../Recommendable, but...

By phenning |

Restaurant in the Deluxe Hotel, used by us for breakfast only. Several nice dishes, but a bit cluttered in our eyes. Anecdote today, of course in English: "The eggs please without chives." Servant to the cook, loud: "The eggs without chives." Chef to the waitress, loud: "Why?" Serving the chef: "They are Germans. A bit difficult." Restaurant attached to the Deluxe Hotel, we used it only for breakfast. Several nice dishes, albeit somewhat overloaded in our view. Anecdote of today: "Our eggs without chives, please". Service person to cook, loudly: "The eggs without chives." Cook to service person, loudly: "Why?" Service person to cook: "They are German. Somewhat difficult"

A charming brunch place to see and be seen.

By BSpencer413 |

Had a very satisfying brunch at this classic, Hollywood stylized hotel. Very comfortable dining, delightful server and service and pretty good food for the money. I would say typical brunch fare. The setting is the thing. Ladies, be sure to wear your best chapeaux. Whether you dress up or down, you will be comfortable in this venue.

Quieter Than Most Places and Elegant

By L Frank |

A business group dined here on a Friday night and eight of us had a corner oval banquette and could hear each other up and down the table. The room is large and open. The menu was just varied enough, from flatiron steak to salmon and sole and lamb and short ribs. Corn chowder was good, as were the crab and shrimp cakes. Our server was very attentive and quickly corrected a steak not cooked to the satisfaction of the guest. Wine list is not extensive but we tried and enjoyed an Oregon wine. This place is in the Hotel DeLuxe but don't let that put you off; it's a well cared for hotel. The location is good, just on the west side of downtown near the stadium where the soccer team plays. An outdoor beer garden and miniature golf place operates across the street and makes a good after dinner entertainment when the weather is nice.

Nice breakfast

By CBescape |

Restaurant was convenient, good service and adequate food. Many folks were ordering what appeared to be large "Elephant Ears" with sugar and syrup toppings. Had traditional eggs benedict. Poached eggs were a bit undercooked and the lighting was fairly stark - maybe dim down the Chandeliers a bit. Waiter Jeff was very busy but he was great once things settled down. Would not go out of my way as there are many other alternatives nearby.

Great Breaskfast

By wsherman |

Loved this place. Tried it for both breakfast and dinner. The Breaskfast was amazing , the service was excellent. Loved the fresh juice

Delicious in the morning and late at night!

By v0lv0240 |

Gracie's embraces you with a calm, easy elegance. Soft seating and deep carpets make this a spot for conversation over delicious entrees. Enjoyed wonderful breakfasts and late night suppers while touring Portland with my daughter. So nice to come "home" to Hotel Deluxe and be able to ease into a relaxing scene for a quiet and excellent meal after a day of exploring by foot. Equally an elegant start to your day before you depart for your adventures or make a fond farewell to the wonderful Hotel DeLuxe. Until next time...

Underrated, elegant place

By drkiki2015 |

Located in the Hotel Deluxe, this iconic restaurant was nearly empty on a Sunday evening when 5 of us gathered after a nearby local event. What a treat! Wonderful, nuanced menu items, such as an incredible brussels sprouts salad and lobster mac and cheese, accompanied by a fine wine list made it difficult to actually choose. What we did choose was outstanding! The dining room is low light, beautifully decorated and set up with separate tables all around--plenty of room between them. Parking at the next door parking lot for restaurant guests is validated by the hotel staff. Last but not least, our server Jimi was so pleasant and a fount of knowledge about all questions we asked (and we asked a lot!). Her service gave our dinner extra value--one of the best servers I've ever experienced.

Delicious brunch.

Great food, horrible service

By Wanderer813281 |

I have loved coming here for years for breakfast. We decided to try the place for dinner with out daughter and son-in-law. We arrived at 7:20 and immediately ordered a cocktail and asked for the wine list. The restaurant seemed to have plenty of wait staff for a dining room that was less than half-full. When the wine list was brought, we were told that cocktail would be right out. At 8:00 the cocktail had still not arrived. I ordered a bottle of white burgundy from the wine list and was told it was unavailable. I then ordered a particular favorite Spanish white also on the wine list. When the wine arrived 15 minutes later it was the correct varietal, but the wrong producer. The waitress told me that she was sure I had asked for the one she brought. It was only when the waitress came back 10 minutes later that we were told that the wine I ordered was also not available. When I accepted the wine I hadn't ordered the waitress said "well now you can expand your horizons." By now, we had been in the restaurant for more than one hour, had one cocktail and no food. Begrudgingly the waitress brought us our one and only small basket of bread. When the check arrived, both bottles of the Spanish white were on the check--the one they had and the one that they didn't have that I had ordered. After a long wait to have the waitress pick up the check, I pointed out the error. After a further wait, the check came back corrected. The chicken parmisan we ordered was delicious, a very large serving (that gave us lunch the next day) and the salad and a brussel sprouts appetizer were perfectly delicious. The service was probably the worst I have had in a restaurant in several years--which spoiled a dinner that, given the quality of the food could have been very nice. Clearly the front of the restaurant needs the same level of care as the kitchen.

Excellent cuisine, but priced on the high side for what you get.

By 10sChick |

Our group really loved our meal at Gracie's. The appetizers, salads and entrees were just delicious. Only problem was the portion size was pretty small. And when you pay $32 for a Dover Sole entree (and it's the entree only - no sides or salad - no complimentary starter bread), you might be surprised like I was at how "petite" it was when it arrived. Even the appetizers were each designed to be shared by 2 people, so keep that in mind when ordering. The dining room is elegant -- like old world European elegant -- so a more formal vibe. This will likely be an older, more dressed up crowd. Wait staff was superb and really knowlegeable. Valet parking is comped by the restaurant, so that was really nice too!

Wonderful for Dinner and Breakfast

By LLJ |

The food and service at Gracie's was excellent both times we went. It is really nice to have a great restaurant in the hotel you are staying at.

Simply delicious!

By ADolores |

We visited Gracie’s and were very happy we found this place. Luckily the hotel has valet parking so we did not have to try and find a spot. The restaurant was not crowded and at first service was fine. My pasta was amazing and my peach salad was outstanding. For dessert we ordered a peach special and again it was delicious. Nice wine list too. Only downside was there was only one server and as more people got seated the service became slower and it took forever to get our check.

Delicious and Enjoyable

By John G |

A very enjoyable brunch experience. We were greeted with courtesy and friendliness. The server was attentive. The food was tasty…steel cut oatmeal, eggs, toast, good coffee. The restaurant is in a lavish, art deco hotel and it’s rather ornate inside…but not stuffy.

A gracious Holiday High Tea

By margaretcov |

There are not many places in Portland for a Christmas Tea but we discovered Gracie's inside the Hotel Deluxe in downtown Portland. It was a cold and icy December day when I took the grandchildren to our annual tea at a new place. We were not disappointed (except that the tea was held in the lobby of the hotel since the regular room was in use and every time the door opened a blast of very cold air swept through the area. The attentive staff took care of that by providing us all with blankets which the kids thought was great). Our tea was quite traditional with three layers and extra "goodies" for the little ones. There was even gluten free choices for "mom". Everything was delicious but what was the best, was the staff. Gracie's knows how to hire, and perhaps train, one of the best staff's we have ever encountered. Thank you so much. Only advise, if you are going in the winter, do check where they are having the tea service and if in the lobby be prepared and dress appropriately.

Elegant. Great service. Really clean

By Patrick S |

My dad and I had the Reuben. My dad loved it. I thought it a bit fatty. The service was spot on. The facility was beautiful. The other diners were impeccable. Worth the visit. If you like fatty Rubens get one, if not try anything else, it all looked good to me.

Afternoon tea at Gracie's

By lantana |

I frequent afternoon tea venues quite often in various locales. This was truly lovely-the best in Portland. Delicious food and beautifully served and presented.

Grand room, not so grand food and service

By kulgar |

The salmon special was special several days earlier and overcooked. How can you muck up salmon on the Columbia River? Excellent appetizer. They don't expect much traffic given the staffing levels but were turning people away so were slammed and it showed. The room is grand but those paintings are garish distractions from the rest of the decor. The round banquettes either have a different radius than the round tables but in any event were very uncomfortable, refuse a banquette and sit at a table with chairs if you can.

A very fine experience!

By M. L. Ullrich |

Had a wonderful time! The food was excellent and the service was even better. Erin went above and beyond to answer all our questions and address special needs. She was very familiar with the menu and was able to point us in the perfect direction. She was very personable without being intrusive and even shared some of Portland’s history with us. The front desk staff was equally helpful in addressing logistical questions about parking and ADA access. No wonder this is a favorite place of many.

Very nice room, good food, excellent service

By Mike L |

We had eaten in this room many times before the hotel became the Hotel DeLuxe and it was always a pleasure. My wife and I were on the way to a mid-day soccer match and decided to have brunch at Gracie's. It was a good decision. The menu had a nice variety of breakfast and lunch offerings including the German pancake recipe from the old and gone Henry Thiele's restaurant. The servers were friendly, prompt and accommodating. The food was very good. I had the Dungeness crab grilled cheese and my wife had Gracie's breakfast. Only quibbles were that the coffee wasn't all that hot, though it was good, and my wife's bacon was underdone. As she said, she forgot to ask that it be crisper. I enjoyed my sandwich and the accompanying tomato basil bisque (which was nice and hot). The potatoes with my wife's breakfast were perfect. Maybe the biggest pleasure here is the very nice room, decorated in 1950's style, with curved booths interspersed with tables. The music was muted but a soundtrack from the era. There were nice touches all around.

Light late night bite w/dessert ~ wonderful as always

By Gloria L |

Popped in a little past 9 pm after enjoying a fabulous movie downtown. We wanted something tasty yet light & a scrumptious dessert IN a place where ambiance is as important as the fare. Gracie's hit the mark again... Our server was superb also, recommending their flavorful soup which we thoroughly enjoyed. We shared the evening's bread pudding a la mode; definitely rich but just perfect after the soup. If quality blended exquisitely with atmosphere is your 'cup of tea' look no further than Gracie's.

Most Creative Brunch in Portland.

Food, yes! Service, uh . . . .

By Travelanna503 |

Gracie's food never disappoints - from the risotto to the bread pudding (not on the current menu - ASK FOR IT!) the food is terrific. However, we waited to be acknowledged for 8 minutes at the door at 6:30 PM WITH a reservation. Once seated, we waited another 13 minutes to be acknowledged by wait staff. We ordered a bottle of wine and appetizers which arrive 15 minutes later . . before our wine! We were not in a hurry, but would have appreciated more attentive service. We will return, but for leisurely meals - not recommended for a business dinner!

Dining was a pleasure!

By Dolores525 |

Since Portlands streets were all ice, we had meals each day here for 2 days..each meal was outstanding, and they also have a High Tea which was wonderful from presentation to quality of food and tea..just a great restaurant.

Try the corned beef hash and eggs! FABULOUS! Fresh squeezed OJ to boot. Great service as well. Only disappointment was Gracie's was closed Sunday evening for dinner, which is what we were so looking forward to for our first night of our honeymoon.

I Love This Town

By Daniel H |

Family of four for breakfast. Friendly waiter. Amazing food very reasonably priced. We had German pancakes, french toast and eggs benedict. The 9 year old said "best pancakes ever" which is a big call. It was good - like a crepe but then puffed up in oven. Yum. The french toast was a little slow coming so the 13 year old received a complementary bowl of fruit.

Great food

I’m in Portland for a wedding and am staying in the hotel. Wandered down for an “early” dinner even though my stomach was in another time zone. Had a side salad with ranch dressing. Perfect amount of dressing tossed in the salad. Then I had the scallops. They were awesome. So glad I ate here. Highly recommend

Great place for lunch with friends

By LOGirl16 |

A group of us get together once a month to catch up and we've been eating at Gracie's in the Hotel De Luxe. We like it because we can get proper entrees, substantial salads, tasty sandwiches, as well as breakfast for lunch. It also has ample free parking in the building across the street from the hotel, so it's easy to meet people from any part of town there.

Overcooked omlet

By arcticknight |

I had breakfast here while a guest at the hotel where it it located. My oyster omlet was overcooked and dried out. This was obvious from the appearance when it was served so should have been noticed by the cook and by the server. My schedule was such that I could not reorder. Very nice hotel but I would dine elsewhere.

Sixth time here!

By SuzanneLG |

This is a place, I take friends for their birthday, because it’s special to me. Every time we’ve gone here we’ve been here for breakfast. My husband has had the Hash, and they have a vegetarian hash as well for those who have friends that are vegetarian or they themselves don’t want any meat. Today my husband had the compote on top of I believe it was three crêpes which he likes also. My other friend every time she goes with me she always has the eggs Benedict. Today we took my grandson, and his girlfriend out for his birthday and then behold 11 o’clock on a Sunday he decided to have a hamburger and french fries go figure. Next month some friends are coming in from out of town and you know where I’m gonna take them, you see this is really a place for me that never disappoints! And as I mentioned before in an old review they have a free valet service, for two hours and you can make reservations how can you miss.

Great way to start the day.

Erin was an awesome waitstaff. She was personable, friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Maybe she will want to wear a top hat!

Excellent food in an elegant setting

We have eaten at Gracie's several times and have never been disappointed. Service is quite good and the food is excellent. We particularly enjoy breakfast and brunch at Gracie's.

Timely spot

By solsenz |

This restaurant is like a set in time back to the 50s era. The food is good with a Happy Hour as well. Drinks and some food listed after movie stars and other era labels. It's a great place for a nice meal and drinks as prices are on the heavier side, but not unreasonable. Staff was friendly and helpful. This restaurant is in a hotel which also has movies and other events in the era, as long as provides spots for weddings and other gatherings. Great place.

Wonderful Afternoon Tea

By macinoregon |

Their Afternoon Tea is wonderful - a great and beautiful place to relax and enjoy delicacies and great service. Their selection of Smith Teas is vast - even one blended especially for them. Lovely presentation and explanation of each aspect of the experience. If you want excellent service - request Rachel's section. She's delightful and efficient. It's a great experience anytime of the year - but with their beautiful Christmas decorations it's especially beautiful.

Excellent venue and food

By Vaughan H |

Five friends caught up for brunch on a Sunday morning. As we hadn’t met up for some years, there was much to chat about. The drinks order was taken, and was a mixture of alcoholic beverages and a cafe. Two dishes stood out - a lobster Eggs Benedict and a standard Eggs Benedict. Rich hollandaise sauce topped perfectly cooked eggs. The lobster meat could have been a little more generous, but it certainly tasted fine. Accompanying drinks included a Margarita and an Arnold Palmer, which were both excellent. Service could have been a little quicker. Gracie’s is a little pricey but the venue is outstanding - Hollywood Deco!

Breakfast in luxury

By CarrsPDX |

We enjoyed breakfast in Gracie's after a night's stay at the Hotel de Luxe. The dining room is beautiful with luxurious decor and intimate seating areas. The menu has the breakfast standards as well as some creative takes on others. The corned beef hash had large pieces of meat sautéed with onions and spinach which was delicious. The German pancake was huge puffed eggy deliciousness. The orange juice was of course, fresh squeezed and there were bloody Mary's and mimosas on the menu too.

One of the best dining expeiances in town!

My wife and I came in for a nice romantic dinner and couldnt have been more pleased with the quality of service and the food! our server Jordan was the best, he made us feel welcome and his knowledge of the food was spot on. We decided to share a number of dishes and stated off with the fig salad (awesome!) and had three others including the carrots, clams and mushrooms (the later being our favorite) everything was perfect from the drinks to the food and we will be back very soon!

Food and service great, nice setting, poor to mediocre coffee

By Don M |

We stayed in the DeLuxe and ate breakfast at Gracie's two days but the coffee was sub-par so we went out on the third day to another restaurant.

comfortable setting

This is a great spot for breakfast - never overly crowded or too noisy to hear your conversation. The food is well prepared, service good, several booths for comfortable seating.

Terrible Tea

By Jane E |

This review is specifically for Gracie's tea service. I was extremely disappointed in the afternoon tea. I love tea. When I heard The Heathman was no longer doing a traditional British service, I decided to try Gracie's. I was staying at the Hotel Deluxe for the weekend, and the hotel was beautiful with great service and a lovely bar. The tea was not up to the standard of the hotel. It is $40 for a single person, which is a lot. I would expect some innovative offerings for that price. The tea menu itself was limited with only 9 varieties. The entire savory selection was entirely made up of tea sandwiches on white bread. No tarts. No puffs. No particularly creative fillings. Cucumber, ham, chicken and salmon. Altogether, it was probably less than a whole sandwich. The scones were ok. A basic scone recipe. Again, nothing special. The deserts were nice, but by then, I had lost my enthusiasm for the event. Would I pay $20 for this meal? Sure. Maybe. It would still be overpriced. At $40, frankly, I feel cheated. The price was based on the good name of the hotel the tea was in. We paid $250 for 5 people (with tip), and if the price wasn't so offensive, the whole experience would be utterly forgettable. Next time I will not hesitate to try the Russian tea at The Heathman. Their menu looks amazing! And they charge $1 less.

Tranquil atmosphere but breakfast basic

By 441AnneB |

We stayed for three nights at Hotel Deluxe and had breakfast at Gracie's which is on the ground floor of the hotel. This was our final hotel on our trip and the only hotel that did not include breakfast in the price of the room which was disappointing. We like to breakfast at the hotels because it means you do not have to wander round the streets looking for somewhere to eat. Breakfast menu was not extensive and appeared to me to be very restrictive. A lot based round eggs which I did not want. Quite expensive for what you got. The portion of seasonal fruit was small and not worth the money. However, what they did have to offer was of a good quality and I could not complain about that.

Disappointing Dining Experience

By ladysaddler |

My friend and I were curious about this restaurant so we booked a reservation although we didn’t need to since there were only a few tables occupied for dinner. The table and kitchen service was very slow. The food was fine although lukewarm. I asked for a top shelf Marguerita but it was not. A transient woman strolled through and stole some tea packets from a counter. She was not noticed by the staff or perhaps ignored. The doormen said she is a regular! Needless to say, it was not a comfortable dining experience for us.

Go see Erin!

By Shannon |

Erin, our waitress is a cup of coffee unto herself. Please ask to sit in her station, she will make your day. The food was made to order, and they accommodated my special diet. Everything was fresh and seasonal.

Birthday Lunch

By Jerry P |

The atmosphere at Gracie’s was elegant but cozy-a relaxing venue for a leisurely birthday celebration which even included a complimentary chocolate birthday cake! Our server Erin Rose was extremely accommodating and personable and made our experience memorable. I would only suggest that their on-line menu be updated to the currant offerings.

After years of loving this place, I am saddened by its demise

By cynthia g |

We have been going to Gracie's for breakfast even before it was called Gracie's. It is the dining room for the Mallory Hotel, not the Delux Hotel. The room is still gracious and old school Portland. The tablecloths, high back booths, and lovely chandeliers are all still present. Our server, Keith, was excellent. The food is the problem. Since re-opening after the pandemic, the menu has changed. some old favorites are still there so that is not a real problem. It is the quality of the preparation of the food. I had traditional Eggs Benedict. Overcooked eggs, burnt Canadian bacon, on an overly buttered English muffin. The grease was oozing out of it. The hollandaise was slapped on top like cake frosting. It was not the least bit liquid. Flavor was boring. Also, instead of the wonderful breakfast potatoes they used to have, they now serve a 3 x 3 inch square serving of what seemed to be scalloped potatoes. Coffee was not. hot. After all these years, I am not sure I will go back. So sad.

Sunday Brunch Love

Definitely a must do, if you're staying at the Hotel Deluze. Try the Elizabeth Taylor -- my personal favourite.

Pleasant service, terrible food and coffee.

By Michele L |

It's a very glamorous room, but the food and coffee were awful, and pricey. The people working there were wonderful.

Great breakfast

By elevatorguy |

While I only ate breakfast here, I did so for four mornings and had a uniformly great experience. If you're lucky, Terry will be your waiter.

Bummer they forgot the fact it was our Anniversary.

By Anna V |

We went to dinner at Gracie's on January 1 to celebrate our 29th Anniversary. The Hostess asked if we were celebrating anything when I made the reservation. I let her know about our 29th Anniversary. We ordered the Dungeness Crab and Shrimp cakes, Caprese Salad and Mushroom Risotto with Lobster. The crab and shrimp cakes were typical. The Caprese Salad with the Burrata cheese was creamy and heavenly. The risotto was the best! the lobster was fresh and divine. We chewed slowly to make it last. Now the bad. The reason why I gave it an average rating instead of excellent was the fact that they never acknowledged our 29th Anniversary Celebration. Disappointing.

Beautiful atmosphere, great food and service

We usually are disappointed in hotel restaurant breakfasts, but not here. It was excellent!!! The service was wonderful and the food terrific, very attractive and large portions They even offered a coffee to go when we were finished. A great bonus.Sorry we never got to eat dinner here, next time.

Good breakfast

Good late morning breakfast. Service was excellent, with linen napkins and a beautiful setting. Perfect ending to a great trip!

High Tea review

By M G |

This was such a disappointment! The tea was steeped way too long (guests do not have option to steep their tea) It was very bitter and unpalatable. The reservation stated there would be vegetarian guests and they missed that when they brought the items and when asked if the cook could make something, one very small non meat brought and was split between the non meat guests. REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the end, the 20% tip added in by Gracies, made the entire event distasteful. I am very much acquainted with teas and a real High Tea event and this fell so short of that, my thoughts are go elsewhere for the real thing and a more willing staff to correct errors.

Disappointing

By Kate H |

We arrived ten minutes late for our reservation on a Monday evening, but had to wait at the door for five minutes before someone came over to acknowledge us. The lady who came over said 'oh, I was just going to call to see where you were', and the tone she used sounded a little harsh, especially considering the restaurant wasn't even 25% full. The restaurant was very nice, full of old style glamour, and the atmosphere was nice as there was soft jazz playing in the background. My husband and I ate the prime rib here, as it was the house speciality. I usually love any form of beef, but unfortunately it was extremely disappointing, like eating raw meat which was very fatty and undercooked. Jordan, our server, tried hard, but ultimately the food wasn't up to standard. Coming from England, we usually find it difficult to find bad meat in the US, and this was the first time we encountered the problem. The food certainly didn't justify the bill. I wouldn't go back to this restaurant.

Classic Elegant Brunch with impeccable service.

By troadtripgal |

I ALWAYS bring my out of town guests to Gracie's for their amazingly delicious brunch. With its stunning dining room complete with lush floor to ceiling drapes, marble tables and plush banquets, it is a step back into the golden era of Hollywood glamour. It NEVER fails to impress. (And that's just the atmosphere!) The Food is consistently amazing and the service is spot on. Every time. We shared the Theil's dutch baby (a not too sweet crepe served with butter, lemons and powdered sugar that literally melts in the mouth!) Everyone loved it and it was a perfect starter for the four of us. Each of us ordered something different so that we could taste everything: a classic Benedict (perfection) a decadent french toast with a bananas foster topping, some not too sweet cheese blintzes (dreamy and rich) fluffy scrambled eggs with sweet and savory chicken apple sausage links and perfectly done breakfast potatoes. Everything was so very very delicious.Nothing was less than expected. Be sure to try one of the amazing champagne cocktails as well, they are the perfect accompaniment. (We again tried several, but "April in Paris" is my personal favorite) Take your family, go with friends or have an amazing first date if you're a local. If you're visiting you can stay at the retro hotel Deluxe and take advantage of the spectacular lounge/bar: The driftwood Either way; make sure to make a reservation in advance as its a local favorite for Brunch! We ended up spending around 150 for the four of us with a few drinks and coffee all around. Money totally well spent and a highlight of my family's visit to PDX this year.

Brunch done Right

By ClintonUSA |

Mother's Day 2017 and I could not have picked a better place for brunch. Gracie's made my wife feel very special so much so she wanted to stay long after we finished eating and just sip a wonderful cup of coffee. Imagine stepping into a classic Hollywood eatery and you understand what this fabulous restaurant is all about. Elegant in a friendly way, serving food that's easy to pronounce. I do recommend this restaurant.

Great food in beautiful surroundings

By PDXMichael B |

We took advantage of “Dine-out Downtown” month to sample this restaurant for the first time. Even if the food and service had not been great, the beauty of the design and decorations of this restaurant made for a lovely, romantic, evening. It really took you back to the elegance of less frenetic times in the early part of the 20th century. The restaurant was not busy because of coronavirus, and there seemed to be just one server. However, the gracious Liberty handled the job superbly, at one time covering six tables including a group. She was assisted by the chef who at times brought courses from the kitchen. There was a reasonable choice on the special menu for the month, and all courses my wife and I had were very good, and often had a twist that took them out of the ordinary. My wife’s first course was marinated prawns with a very interesting salad which included avocado, fennel, and hearts of palm. My main course of King Salmon might sound ordinary, but the salmon was beautifully cooked, and the accompaniments of Great Northern beans, Swiss chard, and andouille sausage lifted the dish. All the desserts were decadent! There were some interesting wines available, but many were slightly over-priced as is usual in a hotel restaurant. We intend to return to sample the whole menu.

Don't say Goodnight Gracie!

By Glee47 |

This restaurant was in my hotel, so I ate here twice, once for breakfast (which was packed, so reserve if you want to come Sunday morning) and once for dinner. This review is about our dinner, which was in a beautiful, swanky atmosphere (purple chairs, lush drapes, rose carpet, chandeliers). We had a great waiter who was super nice and helpful. We ordered a local pinto gris ($30). I got lamb with couscous, fruit and fried kale. The lamb was pulled into strands, tender and not "lamby", mixed with creamy couscous and the fried kale was a nice contrast of texture; it was delicious. My neice got the tri-tip steak with mashed potatoes and green beans, which was really good as well. My sister got the flatbread, with blue cheese (instead of goat) which she enjoyed. I believe the menu changes according to the season, so some of these dishes may not always be on the menu. It is a similar menu to the Driftwood room, but with entrees and in a more formal atmosphere. We sat at a table, but they also have cozy and plush banquettes, which would be perfect for date night. I believe it was named after Jack Benny's wife Gracie, who he used to say "Say Goodnight Gracie" to and she would say "Goodnight Gracie!" Hopefully, this Gracie sticks around a while, because it's a gem!

5 stars!

We had a family dinner there and found both the service and food to be outstanding. They were very open to special requirements - one of our part is Vegan and she was very happy with how her meal requirements were understood and met.

SalmonHash for breakfast was delightful

Service great and the foods we had for breakfast were excellent. I would certainly dine here again, and so convenient when you stay at the Hotel deLuxe.

Fine dining

By Tom R |

Excellent staff, great menu. Try the deviled egg and pork belly appetizer. The trout plate and steak were as good as any. Fine dining at mid range pricing.

Lovely, Elegant and Historical

By William S |

Beautifully renovated dining area complete with the style of the 1940's. Gold leafed columns reminds one of the good "ole" days. Breakfast for 2. Eggs and sausage, over easy, nicely done. Potatoes seemed a bit over cooked but still the taste was there. Wait staff was professional and accommodating. $40.00 for 2 breakfasts with coffee and an orange juice. A very nice restaurant in a beautiful location.

Romantic Place for Breakfast or anytime!

By Greyceleigh |

Gracie's is located inside a vintage hotel and does its part to give you a vintage and plush vibe. It is so much fun just to hang out inside and listen to the piano player taking tunes from another era. Food is great but comes with its price. Best value is to come for breakfast or brunch which is super reasonable and superb. Don't forget the mimosa!

Elegant--"Ladies Who Lunch" Spot

By Patricia M |

Sophisticated, plush banquettes make this a favorite spot for downtown long lunches. Menu is varied. Fresh ingredients and sweet staff make it an elegant experience, overall. The tuna poke salad knocked my socks off.
