Great pastries and bread, and excellent sandwiches for lunch

By David L |

Have had their basal egg salad many times and I just love it. The breads and pastries are some of the best in Portland.

Grand Place

By jtravels1 |

Love this place. They have an amazing almond croissant and their blueberry muffins are very good - not too sweet or filling, like the Costco muffins which are good too when you want something sweet and filling! The chicken salad sandwich is very tasty. I order "bake your own" pies here around the holidays sometimes and they are really good!

Good for a Change

By 819sherylp |

The food was ok, but a little expensive for what you get. It's a cafeteria/fast food type of restaurant. You order at the counter and when your food is ready, they call out your name to pick it up. Lots of different items and they are very willing to make changes to your order. It was quite busy at lunch time, so I'm assuming it's a well liked place to eat.

Great breakfast spot I’m sure other meals are great too

Hot food can take awhile but it’s worth it. Delicious baked goods we went every morning during our stay for breakfast. Small parking lot get there early or park on nearby street. Croissants in all forms were delicious, both quiches were good (veggie could use more veggies more like baked egg), frangipane also delicious and I’m sure we had more but it was allllllll good

Great Bread, Good Sandwiches

By daniel t |

Quick and easy; a Portland institution. A frequent stop before a road trip to pack for the day. Salads also.

Comfortable

Small parking lot, outside tables the interior has quiet tables on the side. Ordering is a little overwhelming with everything in your face, but I really wish they had something printed to read in my hand. Looking over head and then trying to find the item down in the case slows me down. And the service here is astounding. Fast, friendly and accurate.

EGG SALAD

We visit Grand Central for the egg salad sandwiches - to eat on the premises or to go. Best egg salad there is - even if you think you don't like egg salad.

Stop and Smell the Flours

By Explorer238 |

Walking in to Grand Central Baking Company makes you instantly happy. Happy that is if you are into breads, cookies, and all the delicious goodness that comes from a mixture of various flours and love. Great selection of things was on display, and some innovative sandwiches to boot. We had sandwiches which were simply delicious, on their breads which was perhaps the best part. Good ingredients and a nice balance overall. The staff was very nice, very friendly. This is a great place to visit in Multnomah Village. Stop in and smell the flours!

Incredibly slow

By Katieydid2 |

The food was tasty, if overpriced. Portions were on the small side, appeared to be about 3 ounces of ham on a demi baguette for the ham and cheese sandwich....really the wrong ration of filling to bread. The wait time was the biggest issue. It was a 35 minute wait for our orders, and one of our party didn't receive her food until everyone else was finished eating. It appeared the to go orders were served much faster...maybe a ten minute wait. It seemed the staff's attitude was to get the to go orders out and those eating in could just sit and wait. When we asked how much longer it would be, we were told that a 30+ minute wait was normal and expected. While a 30 minute wait is tolerable at a full service restaurant, it's just unacceptable in bakery/deli.

Wonderful baked goods, BEST cinnamon rolls, yummy sandwiches

By TnEShlaes |

My most favorite ooey gooey cinnamon rolls made with a combo of whole wheat and white flour. Go early because they run out. I love their breakfast sandwiches, muffins, breads and hand pies. Take home a sack lunch ALL their sandwiches are yummy! Get the complete lunch with a bag of chips and a homemade cookie! Great homemade soups too!

Friendly spot for breakfast or lunch

By jdana130 |

My husband and I stopped by for lunch this week, and we were hoping for their advertised BLT with beefsteak tomatoes. But tomatoes not quite in season here, so we settled for an albacore tuna salad sandwich and a ham and Swiss sandwich. My husband and I shared, and both were great. It is a small place and busy, but very much worth the wait. The staff was friendly and patient as we viewed their extensive menu. Will definitely stop by again, maybe next time for breakfast.

Pet friendly outdoor seating

Come here often for baked goods, lunch. Deck outside and tables outside pet friendly. Water available, but bring own bowl.

Best Pastry in Portland, bar none. And great sandwiches too!

By Nancy B |

This is my favorite place to get a pastry, ( the gooey one with nuts top will wow you!) and also one of the best sandwich places too. The Turkey and Chutney sandwich is so good, I sometimes just have to drive to Portland to get one! The Como bread has been a favorite to take home also.

Grand flavor!

I drove by this bakery, and actually turned around and went back, I just had a feeling. Boy, was I right. We got a variety of pastry items, all of which were delicious. Fresh, carefully prepared. I am hooked. This location is no where near where I normally travel, but I will be making a number of special trips to enjoy their masterpieces.

Veggie Grinder Heaven

Fresh Wonderful Bread and More...

By costaricatravel09 |

Fresh baked bread and pastries at their very best! A good menu of lunch items and hot snacks. The coffee drinks are very good. Service is friendly even when very busy. A large area to sit inside and some seating outside. they have their own parking and there is some available parking on the street.

I so miss this place!! Moved to CA 3 years ago, and whenever back in town, I have to stop by!!! Love the basic cinnamon rolls not to mention ever other baked treat. All full of flavor and not overly sweet. And the bread. Yes.
