Never got served. Maybe because I'm not a local?

By Haward F |

I came here hoping for a nice experience. I cannot rate the food because I was never served. I sat for over 20 minutes after making my drink order and watched my server take care of many, MANY, other customers and he actually motioned another server away from coming to my table. I never received my drink, nachos, or another visit from him. When he noticed me walking out he acted as though he was going to finally take care of me. I left. Maybe because I wasn't local or whatever.

SO Yummy!

By B_M_Trahan |

The food was great and the drinks were better. The bowl of chips had 15 chips and 1 bowl of dip for a table of 4, but they refilled as needed. The staff was friendly and prompt.

Great Marquerute's

By Tony R |

The food was ok but the Marguerite's where great, Extremely friendly staff too. The Mexican music was a little to loud for me - but I did enjoy the atmosphere

Casual Dinner

By CEO |

We visited this restaurant for dinner on a Monday. The dining and bar areas are decorated typical Mexican style. The booth that we were seated was clean. No sticky feeling or food scraps. Tables are well spaced and the area clean and fresh. We ordered margaritas which were made fairly well and not watered down. Entrees were rib eye beef tampiquena, braised pork and crispy beef tacos. Portions were ample. The plates came with a very small salad, refried beans, rice and guacamole. Warm flour tortillas were served with the meal. They gave a small bowl of chips and salsa when we sat down. No refill was offered. Overall the dishes were well made- although on the salty side. Service was pleasant and attentive. A bit slow considering the restaurant was not crowded. Overall a decent dinner if you're craving Mexican food at a reasonable price.

Great Food, Good Service.

By Tina A |

When we first walked in the music was way too loud. We eventually ended up eating on the patio to get away from all the music. Still loud but bearable. Then we were quickly and efficiently waited upon. Lots of food and great service. Friendly and helpful server and bus person.

BMT Graduation

By Helomech1969 |

While on a trip to San Antonio to watch a nephew graduate basic training from the Air Force, we ate at this restaurant to talk and enjoy each other's company. Being from Southern California and eating a multitude of Mexican restaurants, this place was no different in the sense that it delivered good Mexican food with good service.

Good Mexican food

By mrbrentharris |

Lot's of TV's for the games, good service. The food is very good. I like the enchiladas which are always very good.

Uncommonly Inattentive

By Happy2Comment |

The food was good but the service was quite poor today. I will say that this is one out of four visits ......and the other visits were completely different. At those visits, the waiters were great. Our drinks weren't refilled in a timely manner. We had to look out for our waiter and flag him down each time we needed something and it took quite a while to find him. He actually didn't even bring us tortillas. Yes, this is a Mexican restaurant. I was completely disappointed in the service which is why I held a star back. The food was pretty good and the rice was delicious as was the fideo.

Great restaurant

By Barbara S |

We frequent grand Tequila often it is a fun family place during the day with kareoke and a more bare type atmospheres late. Sunday offers a brunch buffet that is very good.

Not Good

By texascabo |

First off, this is not a family restaurant. We should of known better with a name that has Tequila.lol....For starters, very loud (music, over drinkers talking to loud.etc..)..The food ..fish tacos were very fishy smelling, not fresh..our starter plate for 2 was enough for one and the food looked like it came frozen and reheated. Gorditas were fair, the asada was ok. The best thing we had was the tea..The waiter had to be reminded to fill our glasses...If you are looking for a place to have drinks and have a good time this is a good place , if you are looking for a family restaurant find another place.

Mexican Style food

Casual Tex Mex

By Joel L |

Recommended by the desk clerk at our hotel. We wanted take out to bring back to our room after a long day. The food was good but not spectacular. Prices were reasonable and service was great. The rice was a little bland, but the tacos and sopapillas were great. Could have used more honey with them.

Subpar service

By jingjing2x |

We were looking forward to eating good Mexican food with our return visit to San Antonio. It seems to be a happening place with loud music and multiple TV screens all over the dining area. Our food was just ok however; they did cook my steak perfectly. I wasn't impressed with the service. We had to ask our waiter for refills for our chips and the torillas for our meal. The margarita was average. The decor is traditional Mexican style.

Good Food and Margaritas

By Mary G |

I have been to Grand Tequila a few times in the last few months... each time the staff has been friendly and very accommodating. Service is fast and food hot. This last visit, tried the lunch buffet... which had a good variety of food (for a lunch buffet) and priced moderately. The house margaritas are always good... but for a real bargain... come in for Happy Hour and get the Margarita carafe for $10! Great HH special! Will be back again soon..... :)

Poor Service and greasy food

By tina2539 |

We gave this place 1 star because the computer will not let you go any lower. The puffy taco was too greasy even after squeezing out the grease with a paper towel. My regular taco came with meat only. Our waiter was inattentive and when we asked another waitress to bring condiments to our table for this dry taco, she did not. She said that she did not have to because we were not her table. When we tried to talk with her she walked away. When we shared our experience with the waiter, he became very emotional and upset that we assume our service was poor due to our race. We will never return. Thanks.

Flores/Anguiano Wedding dinner

By Dora Jean F |

First I would like to Thank Rodrigo and the staff for making this small intimate wedding memorable. Originally I was going to have the dinner at Lisa's on Bandera rd but because the manager was not willing to work with me and limited my party of 25 to a contract for their party room with a choice of 1 dinner plate I chose to have it at Grand Tequila. I was hesistant at first but Rodrigo gave me so many options about the food and the party room was beautiful (plus it was only 100 to reserve for 3 hrs and 35 for table set up) I chose to reserved the room. We went with open menu and everything was fantastic from us beling allowed to decorate early to the service. Food came out quick and hot. We never had to keep asking for refills either. This was a Blessing in disguise. I would reccomend Grand Tequila to anyone looking for a small venue with a great atmosphere. Thank you to all who made this happen!

Will. Never. Eat. Here. Again!

By Napunani |

Met a group here for a weekday breakfast and they chose to sit on the patio, which faces Highway 151. The noise from the highway was horrible so much that we had to yell at each other. Then there was the blaring music from the restaurant speakers. Not an enjoyable condition at all. Prissila A. was our server and she was definitely having an off day as she asked to take our order without giving us menus. Once our food was served, she then asked if anyone wanted salsa, hot sauce, pico, etc. I suppose she knew that she was getting an automatic 18% gratuity, so why put forth any good, friendly service? The food was very bland. I had two breakfast tacos that were tasteless. There are TONS of much better restaurants in the same area with much better service, good food and a quiet patio.

I'd stop again

By MARGARET H |

Stopped by after passing by this restaurant numerous times. It was pretty good te -mex. We've had better, we've had worse. The service was good, good variety to choose from and restaurant was clean. Overall, good experience and if I were to be back in this area, I'd stop again

Worst manager ever!!

By Laura R |

We've never had issues all the other times we've been here but today was the worst. I requested to speak to the manager because my drinks were being charged full price even though we ordered from the happy hour menu. I sat waiting for her to come to us for 15 minutes & she continued to stand at the register so I had to go to her. I then questioned why I was being charged full price if my beer was $1.99 x2 & they were ordered before 7pm. She began arguing that I ordered a michelada which I requested the mix separately but I was being charged almost $16.00 just for the mix. She was very argumentative & decided to give us a $2.00 discount....LOL!! This is by far the worst manager this restaurant has ever had. Yeah she's the one with glasses & all that makeup.

Disappointed.

By mkh143ek7 |

People were super nice, but food was very lacking. First off, this is the first Mexican Restaurant I've ever been to that didn't serve salsa and chips. We thought ok, no biggie but then when our appetizer came out - we got the Los Jefes Nachos with beef fajita meat on them and when it came out......well, it was just chips with a ton of refried beans on them with a tiny bit of super small crumbs of the fajita meat that you expect to see left on the pan after frying them. The chips were chewy and not really edible. The pico de gallo and guacamole that came with it were so small in comparison to the actual nachos. It was so disappointing that we just decided not to order dinner and we got our bill and left. Once again, super great server, just not going back. So disappointed.

LOUD, Good Food, Amazing Fajitas

By LMD202 |

Our visit had high points, but everything was overwhelmed by the very high volume levels. It is the first time I've left a restaurant with my ears ringing. It was loud by itself, but throw in the mariachi band and it was just a blizzard of sound. The fajitas were amazing both in flavor and variety of meats and vegetables on the platter. We had the fajitas for 2 and there was easily enough food for 4 with the plate piled high. The beans that came with the fajitas were superb and the tortillas, guacamole, salsa and pico de gallo tasted fresh. My wife had the 3 tacos and found them bland, but my son had the flautas and said they had great flavor. A little extra salsa would have been helpful, but we weren't offered any and, after having to repeatedly shout a request for some sour cream, it didn't seem worth the effort. By the way, we were happily provided with a generous amount of sour cream. The selection of margaritas was impressive and, if you're looking for a rowdy and raucous night out with your friends, this is probably a great place for you. If you're looking for a calm family experience or a date night where you can chat and connect, this is probably not the ideal spot.

Awesome food

Awesome food! We had a sampler and burrito and they were great! We are visiting from Maine and recommend. Great food and great service. Best food we have had in Texas!!

Amazing Place

By Jennifer |

Wow! I loved this restaurant. Great food, drinks and music. The staff is also very friendly. We were in San Antonio for my son's birthday and they made his day even more special by singing him happy birthday and also had the Mariachi sing him a song. We will definitely will be back.

Fit the Bill

By Aimee W |

After travelling all day, the food at Grand Tequila hit the spot! We enjoyed their tacos campechanos and their mango margaritas. Our second visit wasn't quite as successful as the first, but still good.

Pretty good not outstanding

By Eastern-Shore-4Life |

Stick with crispy tacos not puffy. The Puffy tacos came out soggy and later I found out the server warned another in our party not to get them due to sogginess. The drinks were great, Cevichelada - shrimp, beer and tomato juice could be an appetizer! Strolling Mariachi band was entirely too loud for such a small space. We were glad when they took a break. Plenty of food, pretty darn tasty and a great value. You will be satisfied.

I was working in the area

By Rob A |

I was working in the area and stopped after work for happy hour. I sat in the bar, had a beer, and sampled several of the appetizers off the happy hour menu. They were all quite good.hour menu

Visited the bar for about an hour watched the dirty cups returned to the bar, the bartender just emptied the left overs and rinses the cups and serves again.

False advertising over priced

By julie L |

I order bean and cheese nachos the girls said the order was big when I opened the box there was two Chalupa shells broken in four with beans and cheese on them and they charged me 11$ for that crap. It was a to go order so I didn’t open it until I got home. This is BS

Yummy salsa

By Amyandshaun |

Really good salsa, they only give you a tiny bowl of chips and salsa though. Pretty stingy but it was good! Our food was great also, best sour cream enchiladas I’ve had in Texas!

Good service, mediocre food - we won't be back

By AmyLoverOfSun |

There are too many options for great Mexican food in San Antonio to warrant coming back to this place. Their "chopped steak" was a thin hamburger patty. The salad consisted of a few pieces of iceberg lettuce with some chopped tomatoes. It was a mixed bag with everyone else - some like it and some were disappointed. It's a cute place inside but just not worth it.

Ehh.

By Mark C |

The food was OK, what really got me was I had a 27 dollar bill. I gave the waitress 40 dollars. I had to walk to the front and ask for my change back. Of course I was planning on leaving a tip, but not a 50% tip. I felt as if she was trying to keep it.

Grand Drinks and Good TexMex Food

By William B |

San Antonio is a town known for TexMex cuisine. Grand Tequila delivers Tequila, as the name implies, and good food. Expect crowds because there are plenty of special offers. There are probably some nicer and more expensive options, but this place fits in the mid range and has good, fast service.

Great Mexican Food

By Renee c |

We came here for dinner had fajitas and Gorditos and an amazing appetizer sampler with taquitos, quesidillas and nachos. Service was excellent and the food was very good. The steak was tender and shrimp was very plump and full of flavor.

Okay Food, Bad Service.

By RheaEJ |

Not the worst Mexican food I've had... One little bowl of chips brought to the table for 5 people. Kids menu was sparse, too much food, and not very kid friendly with onions. Poblano chicken was only grilled chicken. Too many beans on the nachos. Waitress was busy chatting with other servers than accommodating us.

We enjoyed our lunch

By carliewired |

We came in for lunch because we our motel was close by. We each had a special off the lunch menu. Very generous portions. Good hospitality. Friendly service. Loved the food.

Great drinks and good food

By tracy f |

My husband and i went for lunch on a Sunday. It wasnt packed at all. We ordered ceviche and shrimp cocktail. Both were really good. I also had coconut lime mojito which was very good. The fish tacos and shrimp diablo were are also very tasty. We will be back.

Good food at a reasonable price

By cew2015 |

Seven of us went for drinks and dinner after a round of golf at the nearby Hyatt. The chips and salsa were good and everyone was pleased with their meal. Their standard margaritas were fine and the server was attentive. Overall good experience for a first time visit.

Not restaurant quality food.

By Vimaiden270 |

Really disappointed in the food for an established brick and mortar building! The chili con queso was essentially velvets with 3 slices of jalapeño peppers. The quesadilla was melted cheese and what tasted like luncheon meat chicken. Best thing about this spot was the margarita.

Good food and karaoke nights.

By Adriana A |

We spend new years eve eating and singing. Good food with plenty served. Servers are nice and the general manager Sammy is the best! My husband loves this place, so he has made this one his very favorite place. It has real Mexican food with reasonable prices!

Great!!!!!!!!!!

By rodriguezcarlos |

If you want to have some mexican food, Grand Tequila is the palace. Nice atmosphere, great food, unbelivable price (very cheap). If they say, that the food is enough for 2 believe me it is enough for 4. We went Friday night and they had Mariachis.

Ok, but we won't be back.

By Devon P |

This place always looks busy, so we had high expectations. We were seated quickly and the service was good. Unfortunately it was extremely loud and the food was just average. The queso was very bland, I had to stir in the salsa to make it edible. My husband's steak was ok and the chile relleno was unremarkable. On the otherhand, the margaritas were pretty good. With as many awesome restaurants as there are in SA, I'm surprised this one i always this busy.

Great Drinks and Fajitas

By Scott D |

Always like coming here. Margaritas are great and you can split fajitas for two and have plenty of leftovers. Prices are decent too.

Great service!

By travelbug41563 |

Our hotel Mgr suggested this restaurant for good Mexican food. We were a party of 8 & went at 4:30 our Airman graduate had to be back at base by 8:00pm. So early was key. We were seated as soon as the tables were put together. Food was good but I wasn’t thrilled with the red sauce on top of my burritos. They made mine as requested with flour tortillas. Guacamole was delicious. The Manager was so nice to our new Air man. He congratulated him & offered advice on success. From what I understand the Mgr was in the military. As advertised, discounts given to military personnel in uniform. It is a clean restaurant & staff was friendly.

Food just OK

By Ron K |

The chicken fajita was just so so, the chicken was fatty and the refried beans cold. Will not be back.

So So

By Gary H |

A little disappointed. I love cheese enchiladas and I rate these as very average and nothing to want to come back for. The service was good but the restaurant is very noisy.

Server Stole Cash

By Carinne C |

Be aware!! Stay Away!! A few days ago, visited here with my friend, her husband, and three kids. Our server was a guy named Olsen, shaved head, reddish/blonde beard. When we walked in, we heard him tell the hostess he wanted our table, we thought he was a nice guy. We had an appetizer, dinner, my friend and I each had one margarita, total came out to about 85.00 I wanted to pay the tab, but my friends insisted we split it. So I gave Olsen exactly 50.00, two twenties and a ten dollar bill, almost gave him 60.00, but didn't want there to be confusion with the change, has happened to me before. My friend took her kid to the restroom, her husband gave me his card, I put his card on top of the cash, gave it to Olsen, said "Split tender, 50.00 in cash, the rest on the card please." He said okay, came back with my friend's husband's ticket, totaling 35.00 and change. We spent a minute deciding on tip amounts. He put 8.00 in tip on his card, we had a good time so I put in an additional 12.00 bucks in cash, two fives and a two ones, told my friend's other daughter to give it to him, he thanked her. So 20.00 tip total. My friend got back with her kid, we got the baby bags, car seat and got ready to leave, not noticing Olsen never came back with the final ticket/receipt. Next day, my friend calls me, she went to the bank to make a deposit, found the restaurant ran two amounts, one for 58.00 and one for 93.00, overdrawing her checking and causing fees. She thought it was a mistake, she called Grand Tequila she was told our server stated we skipped out and didn't pay, so they ran 58.00, my share in cash plus my friend's tip amount, and then the 93.00, the 58.00 dollar amount plus the 35.00, my friends share of the tab. She was told they only had a copy of what my friend's husband signed for, the 35.00 ticket, and never got my cash, so they ran his card through for both amounts. My friend asked for the mananger, but was told to call back when he was available. She called later that same day with her husband and spoke to Alfonso who asked if she spoke Spanish to understand her better? which she doesn't. He told her it was easy to fix, just go by and give them the 50.00 in cash and they would remove/reimburse the debits! My friend refused to pay double and Alfonso told her they had video surveillance of our visit, and after reviewing the tape, they saw nothing where I handed Olsen the cash or tip. My friend's husband spoke to him and they went back and forth. Finally my friend said they would report it to the police and we could all go visit the restaurant and view the tape. Alfonso said to come by because he wanted to file a report on them with the police, and since we never got our final receipt, it was our word against theirs. This experience is awful, I feel bad that my friends got charged double through no fault of their own. This guy Olsen basically stole from us and from the restaurant he works for. I used to be a server, so I get that of course, Grand Tequila would side with the server since we don't have a receipt and they want their money. But they weren't willing to even try and research or help resolve the situation, instead making empty threats. So defintely, always keep any receipt-lesson learned. My friends are out about 153.00 plus fees from the restaurant charging them double and Olsen walks away with 70.00 extra bucks he doesn't deserve. Just advising everyone to be careful if you choose to visit this place, and definitely stay away from that server Olsen, especially if you're in a larger group/party and definitely DON'T split tickets here because if there's an issue, the manager and service are horrible!! Looking forward to going back this weekend with the police to get to the bottom of this.

not at all costumer oriented

Tom my fam. On a very special date for a bday celebration. Had fam. Drive an hr. In to join at this establishment my sister ordered her drink as soon as she received it her 1yr. Son spilled it over the table the waiter and manager insisted in charging a replacement, not at all offered to assist or take care of it, which in many high dollar rest. We have been they automatically just service u and make sure your taking care off. An over 270 bill plus 18% gratuity and they couldn't replace a drink. Never coming back.

Not So Wueno!

By OmniEpicurean |

You get the feeling that this is a chain restaurant the minute you walk into the cavernous restaurant abuzz with television sets, central bar, and several rooms for dining. The same feeling arises upon review of the menu (and the prices). All of your average Tex-Mex dishes are a least a couple of dollars more than you will find the same dish at one of hundreds of local Mexican food restaurants. Chips and salsa were served, but found to be of HEB quality (i.e, store bought packaged chips and bottled salsa). An order of nachos that happened to be 1/2 price on the bar menu were pretty average; two corn tortillas slathered with rather tasteless beans and topped with cheddar cheese and an usual tasting picadillo then cut into quarters. The combination plate of two cheese enchiladas, rice beans and a crispy taco (wanted a puffy taco but that was a $2 substitution charge) was all together sub par. I love cheese, but the enchiladas were swimming in it. Definitely overkill. The taco had the same unusual tasting picadillo as did the nachos, the same lack luster frijoles, and decent garlicky rice. I was underwhelmed to say the least for a plate that had an almost $11 price tag. I don't like to base a review that heavily on price, but when they are such a huge variety of choices for Tex-Mex food in San Antonio, that have wonderful tasting food, price becomes a critical qualifier in selecting one (unless you just like paying for the ambiance like Casa Rio on the river). For someone that has sampled over 50 local taquerias, Tex-Mex chains and mom & pop restaurants, the low quality over price ratio here is definitely sufficient to discourage any return dining.

Typical Mexican fare.

By john-e-boo |

We visited on Tuesday after Christmas. Not very busy. Karaoke night. Good happy hour prices. The food was average. Prices were fair on the food. The feel was that of a Mexican sports bar. Restrooms were clean. Our service was good. Overall good visit.

Loved the mangonada margarita. They had live mariachi a bit loud for the size of the restaurant but great voices. Food was very tasty. You can choose to sit outside or inside. Recommend it.

Unexpectedly Amazing

By Pilot Brian |

I am in my 50’s, love Mexican food, happened on this place close by while spending a weekend in San Antonio. It was absolutely the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. No kidding. Totally unexpected. So much better than the Riverwalk restaurants. Exceptional flavors that just popped. Called in a to go order right at the busy time of 630, ready in 10 minutes. I will return every time I’m in SA.
