Very Good!

By jck1225 |

Ordered Sushi, a salad and chicken appetizer (waitress said it was their version of chicken tenders.....but much better!) Everything was very good. Restaurant was very clean, and the server was very nice. No complaints.....and in a very convenient location.

Yummy japenese restaurant next to the pier

By SnowPpp |

So yummy sushis, great service and nice hosts: perfect combo. I really recommend both the kalbi and the teriyaki plates

Surprise!

By Luci P |

We were looking for a sushi restaurant after a day in San Francisco and found one 212 ft away. I was reluctant, but it was perfect. Perfect fried crab and grilled squid, then the sushi boat B. Delicious. Waitresses were lovely, accommodating, and gracious. We are fussy about our sushi, and this was awesome.

Surprisingly good for location

By CaWineGuy |

When you are in the heart of tourist country, don't expect amazing food at killer prices. That said, the food here is really good and the prices are not insane. The sushi is fresh and everything served is very good.

Good food, but dropped a few points.

By Ads_Claire |

I took my family to this restaurant for their first foray into Sushi. So I had spent sometime looking for a suitable location around Fisherman’s Wharf. On the whole the experience was positive, my kids loved the experience. How ever I feel that I should feedback on two points: Firstly the size of the sushi and sashimi pieces was not ideal. They were actually too big. When you pick up a piece of tuna or salmon in chopsticks to eat, ideally it should be bite size. These were at least twice the normal size and almost too big to put in your mouth. And the finish was a little rough with the rolls which regularly fell apart. Secondly I strongly disagree with the automatic addition of an 18% “tip” to the bill. Even in the US the tipping should be based on service. Which was not poor, but it didn’t stand out as anything special. And to then be presented with a bill with an option to add tip I find almost dishonest. Iwonder how many people did not see the automatically added 18% and added another 18% ?? I find this practice devious and underhand. So eat the food, it was good. But watch the bill!!

Bento Box was amazing!

By shopifysuccessjw |

I ordered a Bento Box, it was amazing!! Definitely the best combo meal I have ever had, highly recommend their Korean menu! They also have ice cream!!

Excellent Japanese food

By E H |

We picked this restaurant based on reviews, and ended up going there twice during our recent trip to SF. It is very conveniently located close to Fisherman's Wharf, just about 1/2 block or so up Hyde from Jefferson. It is a quiet, welcoming, comfortable restaurant with very friendly staff. The food was excellent--we had on the two nights Chicken Bento box, Bibimbaps, fried wontons, Seattle rolls (salmon and avocado), beef teriyaki and soup, and it was all very good. The flavours were good, the food piping hot and the service fast. We would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Fantastic sushi.

By LuvinGCM |

Party of 7 traveling for business. Amazing sushi. We ordered lots of different things and everything was delicious. I ordered the rainbow role and it was delicious and fresh. Highly recommend giving this place a try.

Excellent sushi and wonderful service

By mysharona1970 |

I'm not a sushi eater but according to the young adults in the group the sushi was wonderful, fresh and nice large pieces. We also had ramen and chicken teriyaki. Excellent. Salad - very good make sure to get it. It's the house salad that comes with the dinners. We had edamame and also fried tofu. Both very good. Green tea ice cream for dessert was the topper. Really small place with super friendly service.

Well run and friendly restaurant near Fisherman’s Wharf

By Daniel K |

We were visiting SF and staying nearby at Fisherman’s Wharf. It was terrible to see how many if the normal seafood restaurants at the wharf have closed or changed to chain operators. Anyhow, I found Grandeho’s by doing a Google search. Unbelievable great sushi and we were delighted with our experience out of the way from the tourist area. Worth searching for!

Great Japanese/Korean with welcoming service

By Quin M |

We picked this spot due to avoid the busy core of the wharf for dinner. Service was very welcoming and attentive. Love the character of the restaurant which clearly shared a part of the owner. The food was tasty and fresh. Price is average. Glad to have stumbled upon it.

👎Mandatory 18% Tip?!!?👎 not coming back

By SoulFood_Traveller |

Came to San Fran for the first time and read the TripAdvisor reviews on a sushi joint. We visited Kamekyo on a Saturday afternoon when few were around. The quality of service was good. The quality of fish excellent. The remainder of the dishes was good, not great. Upon getting the bill 18% was added on already to a 125$ bill. 🤔 We hadn’t seen any signs on the way in as the walls were plastered with signage. Lo and behold on the back side of the wait to be seated sign was something. The insulting part was the credit card bill asked for addition tip on top of that already charged. Not cool Not coming back.

The food was fresh and hot. The server was friendly. The fried calamari was delicious...better than the calamari...

By Linda C |

The food was fresh and hot. The server was friendly. The fried calamari was delicious...better than the calamari anywhere else at fisherman's wharf.

Not the tourist trap I thought it'd be.

By Where_24U |

After an exhausting trip into San Francisco we just stepped into the first place we saw. Servers were quick and friendly. Menu had a wide variety of Asian dishes, focusing on Japanese. Portions are very generous and I wish we split an order of beef udon. There was so much we didn't finish it so we could eat our sushi! Everything was very fresh and well presented. Prices were higher than average, most likely because of the location. Do not hesitate to stop in!

Great Bento Box

By wazandbob |

Lovely small Japanese restaurant close to Fisherman's Wharf with a very big menu! Ordered the Bento box with 3 choices & found the serving size was plenty for both of us. The teriyaki salmon & tempura prawns/vegetables were delicious. Service was very quick too.

Delicious food in the heart of Fisherman's Wharf

By kismika |

Love this place! Always super delicious meals, fresh food and generous portions. Service is one of the best in the city - very attentive, friendly and caring. Plus one of the best locations - just steps away from the main promenade on Fisherman's wharf and literally 10 steps away from the cable car, the ocean beach and Ghirardeli Square. Don't miss it on your trip to SF, you will have a great experience here and there is a lot of see in the area.

Great sushi rolls

By Sarcastic-Lion |

Had a great time here, staff were polite, food was delicious, recommend the Lion King Roll and the Black Cod, quite expensive but I would go again.

Excellent sushi

By Jeanne R |

I like coming here for lunch or early dinner. I enjoy the uni, the monkfish liver and the fish cheeks. Always am satisfied.

Great Japanese restaurant

By Henri DB |

On a family vacation to SF, we went to this restaurant for dinner without having a reservation. We were very well received by the owner, who was really lovely. The dishes were not cheap but were excellent, we enjoyed ourselves.

Awesome restaurant

By skysan |

We were strolling by and seen this place and it was inviting so we stopped for dinner and we were not disappointed. Food was fantastic and prices were good. It had most seats filled and that was even better as it means people like the place. :) Will visit again when I return to SF.

Good Keto Fix

By Geoff the Reaux |

This was a cool spot for a business lunch. A little pricey but that's expected in San Francisco. I ordered a low carb meal. Salmon skin salad with an improvised wasabi and soy sauce dressing and a few pieces of sashimi. Can't complain, it was fresh.

Excellent

By Squizzynet |

This is the best Udon I've ever had. I've udon-ed on three continents and this one is perfect. The portion sizes are impressive and while not particularly cheap the ingredients seem to all be very good quality. I'd go well out of my way to eat here.

Don't go if you have other choices

By Xiafei C |

If you had a sudden look, the portion of food was good. But the reality was after a few bites, we found that there were not many things edible. Beef teriyaki was tough, super salty and over burned. Lemongrass tofu was very salty and there were a few tofu bricks in the plate. Beef pho was not bad except again overkilled by salt. We did not try the Sushi since we felt it was over priced and not many customers in the restaurant. Service was not not bad. Or I will give one star for the food.

Small place with a Big flavor

By Henry B |

This is looks like is a family operated restaurant. Close to Ghirardelli Plaza. The menu has different vegetarian options. This is casual, low key atmosphere place.

3rd visit and never lets us down

By Charlie E |

Quick business meal Great food and fast service Authentic decor Service a little off this time but no biggie We'll be back next year

Top Notch Sushi in Fisherman's Wharf

By Chuck |

If you are traveling through San Francisco and find yourself near Fisherman's Wharf Grandeho's Kamekyo is an absolute must visit! I went there the other night and took some friends and we were all very impressed. The fish is fresh, and the atmosphere is conducive to a great evening with friends, where you can have a conversation over delicious fish with a good selection of cold sake and beer. If you have only had hot sake, I strongly recommend having a cold bottle, try a 300ml Karatamba. Very good compliment to the meal and conversation. Fresh fish and friendly service! I have not had anything other than sushi, and look forward to going back for more. It is such a breath of fresh air to find a quality restaurant in this neighborhood. It definitely shines above the rest. I did not get any pictures of the meal, but took one of some complimentary fruit that had a very unique and beautiful presentation.

Good Sushi!

By Yana |

What a great experience! The food was fantastic! We tried their Sashimi, Swamp Rolls, Cherry Blossom, Poke Rolls and Rainbow Rolls. The fish was very fresh and of high quality. The waitress was friendly and stayed on top of ensuring that our drinks and food came out quickly and properly.

Just what I needed after a weekend cycling

By XBoarder |

Absolutely delicious. Just up the road from my hotel and comfortably far away from fishermans wharf to not be a tourist trap. Highly recommended. Quick service and super fresh.

Great Place...

Great overall

The staff were very lovely and welcoming! Super accommodating and helpful, we were in a bit of a rush and they served us promptly The food was delicious and great portion sizes! Amazing Bento box and ramen Definitely recommend

Excellent, unassuming place

By KF3000 |

I ate here with colleagues and friends because it was close to our hotel. I wasn't expecting too much, but enjoyed everything about Grandeho's Kamekyo. The atmosphere is definitely low key - more like a diner. Don't let it fool you - the food is really top notch, the service excellent. I had vermicelli chicken noodles with the Imperial rolls, and everything was fresh, full of flavor and cooked exactly right. The people I was with said the same about their dishes, which covered the range of the menu from Vietnamese to sushi. If you're near the Wharf and like Asian food, stop by here and you'll be happy.

Large quantities - not cheap

By Ben K |

The food was excellent, not cheap, but with large quantities. However, something was missing to make it perfect.

Mediocre sushi for a premium price

By Brian B |

I suppose rent is quite high close to Fisherman's Wharf, but the bill was almost double what I would have expected for the venue/ambiance/service. The sushi was ok, but not particularly fresh as you would expect right beside the ocean and the request for the sushi/sashimi boat to be gluten free wasn't terribly well understood and imitation crab (contains gluten) was served. Staff was friendly, but the price and food means we won't be back.

Great food

By Elizabeth A |

A cosy little restaurant with great food, satisfied the whole family and lovely service from the staff.

Great and cozy local spot

By pillowsofwanderlust |

When we come to SF, we stay about 2 blocks from here. This was my first time trying Grandeho's; it's half a block down Hyde from my usual local restaurant, the much fancier Gary Danko. Grandeho's is a small but popular place that seems to mostly rely on walk-in guests, of which there are many, since it's located near the cable car stop, the bay, and a popular bike rental place next door. We came here twice in 2 days. There is an extensive Japanese menu with sushi, bento boxes, ramen/udon, cooked entrees and more, plus several Korean dishes. Both times I got a 3-item bento box, which offers numerous choices. All boxes come with miso soup, rice, 2 "banchan", and a salad that has greens and fruit. Their lemonade is housemade. They have boba drinks too. A welcome new local and relatively inexpensive find.

Lovely food, lovely service

By Stephanie S |

This is a little restaurant and feels like it's family run. The food was great - we both had Bento boxes that were huge and actually wish we'd been more adventurous as it all looked stunning. Very friendly, attentive but not intrusive service and a reasonable price.

We had to visit twice in our 5 day SF stay

By Katrina820 |

Absolutely delicious, quick service, and fair prices!! Wish we had sushi this good closer to home. We did spicy miso ramen soup each time and varied sushi rolls-california, Seattle, New York, shrimp tempura, etc and everything was absolutely excellent. We were promptly greeted upon arrival and the bathrooms were also clean.

Grandeho hidden gem

By TGIF13 |

This restaurant was near our hotel and we desperately wanted sushi. There were only a few other patrons in the restaurant, as it was a Wed night and we were seated right away. The waitress brought us a complimentary little salad (taste portions) that was deliscious. We ordered 3 rolls, Vietnamese spring rolls, and gyozo. It was all delish! Especially the spring rolls. This was my first experience with Vietnamese food and I was not disappointed. After dinner, the waitress brought us a little fruit plate desert. It was also complimentary and tasty. A nice touch. The food was fast and delivered friendly. Couldnt have been happier.

Non-turisty choice for sushi in Fisherman's Wharf

By Joe M |

Good sushi experience - we arrived late after a tour to Alcatraz but were accommodated at the sushi bar. The sushi chef was a very kind and attentive older gentleman who actually confused our order - although we ate it just the same. I wish they had comped us the mistaken order which is why I gave 4 stars. $175 for 2 ppl isn't cheap but I guess they have to make up for the cost of rent in Fisherman's Wharf. All told, food is good, just a bit expensive.

This is a fake Japanese cuisine resraurant.

By ValerieIkeda |

I don't know how much did they paid to get the good comments on the Internet, but if you don't want to try the “fake Japanese” food better to stay away this restaurant. At first all of people in this restaurant are Korean, none of them is Japanese. My husband and me was so mad when we ordered Ramen noodle and they bring us two bowls of Japanese instant noodle. The one that you can easy get it in any Japanese market like Mitsuwa or Nijiya. And it's even the most cheapest Ramen that that sale $3 something for 5 packs. The ramen eggs is totally wrong with just a half of boiling eggs and Chashu is wrong too. I ordered spicy Miso Ramen they don't even know how to make the spicy taste for the Ramen. They just put red pepper on the top like topping, and the red pepper is not the Japanese red pepper too. It's just the red pepper that people use to make Korean Kimchi. We're from Japan. My husband is Japanese. How many Ramen that we ate from Hokkaido to Okinawa, how can this restaurant lies people in US like this. If you ever eat the real Japanese food you will instantly realize the wrong taste in the food of this restaurant. They also make the “wrong sushi” too. The sushi in this restaurant is Korean style not Japanese style, the sushi that they made like “Kimbap” (a Korean type of sushi) more than sushi. The lady next to me she almost didn't eat anything in her Teriyaki Chicken rice plate because its taste wrong and bad. The way they treat customer so bad too. “People in this restaurant just want to get money from customers, they don't care about anything when after you paid.” We after we done, to save the time for the next customers I paid the bill while I was waiting my husband go restroom. After I paid he still in the line of people waiting for the restroom. I can't leave because we carry many bags (we're travelers to San Francisco.) There are some waitresses come and ask me with really harsh voice to get out of the store for the next customers, but they didn't know when they rushed to take our food away after we done they spilled out water on the chair (chair made by cloth) so no way it can dry right away. I write this comment not because I hate them, but because I don't want people keep eat the fake food. This is the first time we visit this restaurant and for sure we will never go back it any more when we travel San Francisco. I think most of people visit this restaurant are travelers like us, so they just stop by or check online for the high rate restaurants. They're better to put the sign Korean cuisine than using Japanese brand name to lies people in US like this. If your are Japanese, please go check and leave the comment online about this restaurant. Don't let people think Japanese food taste bad like that. They're destroying Japanese culture.

Freshest sushi

By pbaut |

Very good fresh sushi. The miso ramen is spectacular. Our group ordered two 'boats' of sushi. All well made and fresh. Quick service and good sake selection, too.

Very good food

By Wildchild1804 |

The concierge at our hotel recommended this place since it was close and offered sushi as well as other items for me. Husband has a couple types of sushi, which he said was really good, he was not a fan of the crab filling in the California roll though. I had teriyaki salmon, which was really good, they salad was delicious as well.

Excellent food. Great Service. A pleasant surprise

By None of Your Biz |

I happened to visit the Blazing Saddles location at Fisherman's Wharf and right next to it was a sign that read Sushi. Not expecting much due to the proximity to the tourist-area of Fisherman's Wharf, I entered nevertheless. Service is friendly and efficient and the food is VERY good. Try the mackerel fillet from the lunch specials menu but don't get the teriyaki sauce but the salt seasoning. Enjoy ;-)

Delicious Vietnamese food for a very good price.

By jabmoore |

We stopped here on a whim and without consulting any food reviews a la TA. It was delicious! We decided to order off the Vietnamese lunch menu which is very reasonably priced and loved all the food items. The Veggie Spring Roll and Imperial Rolls are extremely flavorful and the main dishes (Pho, Vermicilli, Beef and Pork) were yummy. Given the location, quality, and price of this restaurant, we will definitely be back.

Wonderful food. Friendly staff.

By Bernie F |

Came upon restaurant by chance. We ordered vegetable kyoza and tempura combo as appetiser followed by red snapper and delicious side salad. My husband had beef teriyaki which was very tender. Would highly recommend this restaurant

BEST SUSHI I'VE EVER HAD!

By Joey N |

This is hands down the best sushi I have ever eaten. We stumbled into this place looking for a quick bite and couldn't have been happier. Not only was the sushi incredible, even the tea was deliciously noteworthy. I actually ordered the same item again because it was so good. The 2nd time it came out in a completely different presentation, which I thought was great. Definitely try this place. You won't be dissappointed.

Fresh Fish

By Jennifer |

Fresh fish. Great service. Lots of options. We ordered the Chirashi Bowl and enjoyed every bite. Good location. Traditional ambiance. Overall good choice for dinner. The only thing that I was disappointed about is that they use imitation crab.

Not impressed

By unicorntravels |

From appetizer (edamame) to entree (chicken teriyaki) I was not very happy. The portions were large, but the meal was mediocre.

Top marks for sushi, a little improvement needed on hot foods

By BrooksieG |

We had a very enjoyable evening at this restaurant. The sushi serves were fresh and sumptuously flavoured. Alas, we felt Grandehos fell a little, though not devastatingly so, in the hot food department. Our Terayaki Chicken was a little over cooked and dry. A hiccup with serving our Gyoza May have led to them standing too long and they had dried around the edges. In a mid-range restaurant, this might have been okay, but Grandehos’ pricing is up there and raises expectation somewhat. The restaurant was extremely busy on the night we visited, so perhaps we struck a kitchen under a bit of pressure. I left it at 4 stars because it’s still worth a go on the strength of the sushi.

Great Sushi and Sake

By GregHint |

Stopped for dinner after a wonderful walkabout, and had a fantastic Chef's Special sushi combo along with a healthy amount of sake. Highly recommend the specials.

Very good food, reasonably priced.

By QSM42 |

My fellow diners and I had an enjoyable and tasty experience. The food was good, I had the salmon teriyaki, which was very nice indeed, and some sushi while my girlfriend and her sister just had sushi, which they both enjoyed very much. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed. I thought it was reasonably priced based on the quantity and quality of food.

Wasn't sure what to expect...

By ybarne986840 |

Because there are soooo man sushi restaurants you really don't know what to expect but BY FAR this was a MUST SHARE. The food is so fresh and prepared right in front of you. Everything we ordered was amazing. OH and the ice cream which is made of believe it or not a purple yam so the ice cream is purple and honesty I couldn't get enough of it!

Very good sushi bar with good service close to Maritime Park and tourist area

By HubBubba |

Sushi was fresh with decent prices for lunch (sashimi combo $16). Sushi bar and wait staff friendly. Return visitor.

Good and cozy

By andyf57 |

Good ramen soup. Fresh sashimi. Friendly service. Cozy place. That's it.... Japanese beer on tab. Good location at Fishermans Warf.

Criminal if you haven't been

By Nate B |

Can't believe every review isn't 5 star. Staff were attentive and friendly the sushi fresh and tasty, the two side bento box was huge and on both occasions we've been they give complimentary food. My wife and I both agree it's the best sushi we've had.

Nice restaurant near Ghirardelli Square

By Sachin K |

This Japanese restaurant is located within close walking distance of Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco. It is a casual dine in restaurant serving authentic Japanese food. Some Korean food options are also available. Ambiance is good, food is awesome, service is courteous and pricing is reasonable. The only reason why I did not give it a 5 star is that tips of 18 % were automatically added on the final bill, without any prior notification. In my opinion, tips should be voluntary. Certainly worth visiting while in San Francisco.

Favorite Spot!

By Nina M |

Neighborhood family favorite for the past 15 years! We love the staff and the food is always delicious. Definitely check it out if you’re in Cole Valley.

wonderfully delightful sushi

By swmcken |

Two nights in a row, my wife and I enjoyed dinner here. It was a convenient walk from our hotel in spite of the dreadfully stormy weather. However, the restaurant was warm, cozy and the food was fresh and wonderful. After sharing a sushi platter the first night, I had a Vietnamese bbq pork bento box the 2nd night. My wife had more sushi the 2nd night. Great value, great food - enjoy.

Fresh sushi rolls and quick service.

By Eestigirl |

Grandeho’s Kamekyo was only a block from where we were staying and we had walked by numerous times. It was pretty empty on a Saturday night, but the rolls we ordered were fresh and tasty. A Dragon roll and a Caterpillar roll, two beers and we were in and out in no time. I think they do a lot of takeout business.

We Love It Here!!

By TravelDadYT |

We stopped in as a recommendation from our hotel. We walked in and were the only patrons. My son, (7) always wants to sit at the sushi bar. We were seated and were asked for our drink order. An older gentleman was the chef that night. He really took good care of us. We ordered about 5 rolls and ate every one of them. My favorite: the Alcatraz rolls. Very good. The chef gave my son a free dessert of orange and slice strawberries. Two days later, on our last day, we stopped in for lunch. The gentleman wasn't there but another chef took good care of us. We were given a free appetizer of edamame, cucumber salad and another dessert. We will be back the next time we're in town.

Stop on the way home

By courtlouise96 |

My dad and I were walking back to our hotel room when we walked past this place. Service was quick, friendly and the food was great.

Had the sushi

By Cyberserfer |

I read the reviews and then asked the hotel worked at the front desk for some place to get sushi. All point me to Grendeho's Kamekyo. I had some sushi, a maki roll and hot tea. All was quite tasty and satisfying. Desert was also provided as part of the dinner consisting of sliced strawberry and some watermelon. The best part of the experience was the atmosphere. Great decor and quite and relaxing. Sat there after supper drinking my tea and writing this review.

Top!

By currentlygone |

One of the best sushi restaurants I‘ve ever been to. Top food, very fast, great quality and ok pricing (a bit high maybe)..

Very good rolls

By Jst0103 |

My family and I enjoyed the Maki rolls very much. They where tasty and fresh. I have to say the place does need a little maintenance and some more freshness.

Average

By BangkokExpat54 |

The food was OK, but there are much better sushi and Vietnamese restaurants in San Francisco.

Awesome Sushi!

By fiodh |

Had a huge place of Sushi on Sept. 20th and really enjoyed it. My wife was thrilled with the quality of the fish and the friendly service. We hope to come back again next year!

Good Bi Bim Bop and Kimchee soup

By Daniel C |

Good prices for San Francisco and better than other eats in the area that were pricier busier and over rated.

Grandeho's Kamekio

By Tonias54 |

The food was great, the service was very good, an affordable price, the restaurant was clean and beautiful .

Better than I expected

By otis1978 |

For a Japanese/Vietnamese restaurant so close to Fisherman's Wharf, I thought it would feel touristy, but I found it very authentic. The salmon sushi was amazing. My wife had a bento box special, and I had a Vietnamese sizzling platter (in addition to the salmon sushi). We both really liked it, and the total cost was reasonable at about $60 with tip and a beer.

Great Sushi & Close to the Wharf

By Cody2074 |

Loved every bite! Best Collar-Tail in town!! Very, very fresh...! They also had a great WonTon Soup!

Great place for lunch

By Alcal Travel |

Excellent Japanese place for lunch if you are in the Fisherman's Wharf area. Reasonable prices and very good food. Will be back!

Unfortunately gross

By PaindudeChicago |

Coming from Chicago, I am used the spectacular and relatively reasonably priced sushi of San Francisco. I am therefore very disappointed when I find a place like this that serves 95% good sushi and then with one lazy cut, provides a piece of salmon with skin and fat to make it taste like you're eating bait. Worse yet, the chef and owner did not understand that even with fresh fish, a bad cut gives bad sushi. I cannot recommend.

An Oasis of Good Food That Is Open

By Kalaiopua |

We were visiting SF and, as usual, walking widely across the City from our hotel at Union Square. COVID-19 has left a food desert, but this wonderful small, welcoming place just up from the wharf was an oasis of calm, good food, and relaxation. I had the Saba and my wife had and my wife had excellent beef udon. The waitress was attentive, well-informed, and a thoroughly nice person. This is quite worth it.

Great Food and atmosphere!

By Jeff H |

This is a family owned and run restaurant with high quality fresh food and adorned in beautiful plants. Highly recommended.

Secret Vegan spot

By RJA_SD_1964 |

Grace Ho is a 3rd generation vegan and owner of Grandeho Kamekyo Sushi. Her grandmother lived to 99 and her mother to 102...a testament to the vegan lifestyle! Make sure you ask for the vegan menu once you arrive. It is a full page of vegetarian/vegan fare including sushi and ramen! We loved all that we tried including the ramen, bi bum bap and cold ramen. The vegetables were extremely fresh. Grace grows orchids and displays them around the restaurant as well as fresh flowers from the local market. Everything they use is organic to boot!

Best Japanese meal

By David R |

Friendly service and excellent food - the sashimi was particularly good although the Bento box was also very tasty and filling. Good atmosphere and great location next to the Blazing Saddles cycle depot on Hyde.

Absolutely incredible sushi – unforgettable experience!

By Samraa |

Hands down, this was some of the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life. The flavors, the freshness, the creativity. it was out of this world. Every bite was an experience on its own, and I’m still thinking about it days later. Yes, the place is a bit crowded and definitely on the pricier side, and no, the staff aren’t exactly the friendliest—but let me tell you, it’s totally worth it. I’d go back in a heartbeat just for the food. If you’re a sushi lover, don’t miss this spot!

No flavor, poor food

By Laurence16 |

We chose for udons, the tempura and the veggie one. Seriously, not worth the detour. The food had no flavor. The bouillon tasted like hot water. The tempura udon came with fried veggies - not good... The veggie udon contained tofu which again was not very good. Diet Coke was mostly ice served with s little bit of coke. I'm really sorry for the bad review but so far it was the worst food we had in SF :( Waitress was nice though...

Good service but average sushi

By retsekud |

The service was great here. But comparing this to other sushi places I would recommend shopping around, I base this on the portion size of the sushi. Mainly rise with a tiny portion of the fish. Other nearby places I went to had much bigger portions for comparable costs.

Good Sushi and decent Korean

By Jonathan E |

This is a cozy restaurant and it was an unexpected find. The sushi was good as was the Bibimbap (Korean). My teenage son agreed and the service was very god as well. A little gem in an area with lots of touristy haunts. A nice quiet dinner

Quick dinner stop

By Kevin W |

Stopped in for a quick dinner on a Friday night. The restaurant is small and was busy when we arrived but we were seated promptly at the sushi bar. The rolls we had were very good, not "best ever" but very good and tasty and full size portions. We had a drink, ate and were out the door in about 45 minutes. They offered a good selection of roll options along with nigiri and other plates. Moderately priced. Good option in this area.

Casual mom-and-pop sushi place with friendly service and fresh fish

By kevshi |

The wife and I were staying in the Fisherman's Wharf area while we were in San Francisco. We looked for nearby sushi places and stopped by here after reading the reviews, which didn't disappoint. We ordered Sushi Boat A ($60), which was the perfect amount of sushi for the both of us. Fresh, good quality fish, and the boat had a great mix of rolls v. sushi v. sashimi. They also brought out a few small complimentary side dishes for us (kimchi, bean sprouts, cucumber, etc. a la Korean meal) while the sushi was being prepared, which was a welcome surprise. The atmosphere is great as it's a casual mom-and-pop sushi place. We came at 2PM on a Tuesday and there was only one other table occupied, which made for a nice quiet, peaceful meal. Will come back here next time I'm in the Fisherman's Wharf area!

Amazing service! Great food! Highly, highly recommend!

By 3rh0 |

We had a party of 6 and when we got there, there wasn't a table open for us. We waited outside and while we did, they really took care of us! They hooked us up with tea (which kind of tasted like popcorn, I wasn't a fan) and edamame! They were very apologetic about the wait, which ended up being not even 20 minutes! We also got a free special--it was like a sweet potato pancake that was the size of a personal pizza. It was definitely different, but good! They also gave us a little veggie tray sampler, with pickled cucumber, radishes and kimchi. We felt so spoiled! We got 2 rolls of sushi--the Cherry Blossom Roll (salmon, cucumber, avocado and tuna) and the Bay Roll (scallop, crab meat, wasabi sauce, salmon and lemon). Both were delicious! I took off the lemon rinds that were on mine, but it didn't take away any of the lemon flavor. I loooved the sushi! The chicken teriyaki was good. The tofu teriyaki was, according to my mom, "excellent," and she is a hard woman to please. My parents also ordered tofu soup, which they said was good, but were so full at that point that they could only have a bite! We absolutely loved this restaurant. We felt very taken care of and well attended to. There is a good possibility we will be back before our trip ends!

Terrible all around

By Ilene_Jill |

This was an awful experience. My brother-in-law who loves sushi ordered sushi while my husband and sister-in-law ordered salmon and I ordered a vegetable Nabeyaki Udon because I immediately didn't trust the place. When my brother in-laws sushi came out, it didn't look right. It was dry and the display was awful. He called the waitress over and told her he didn't like the way it looked and she immediately took it back and put it into a box plate to make it look presentable. He completely lost his appetite and sent it back. When we went to check out how the sushi was handled at the sushi bar, we saw that the tuna actually was already sliced and left out on ice which dried it out completely. We had never seen sushi kept this way. Sushi chefs always treat the sushi like it is gold by keeping it whole and wrapping it in plastic wrap after handling it each time. I would not recommend this place at all. Food, service and atmosphere was sub-par at best.

Helpful wait and kitchen staff

My son lives about 8 blocks walk and just moved formerly 3 blocks from Grandeho. We have eaten there twice before and always find it consistently high quality in an otherwise tourist area of North Beach. The very hi-end Gary Danko is same block up on the corner but we find this Japanese and Sushi restaurant an easy friendly and wonderful place to relax and enjoy friends and family from robust udon soups, bento boxes to hi quality sashimi/sushi to satisfy the whole family. It's a neighborhood favorite. Parking anytime fall or winter is a little easier in this tourist neighborhood but Muni transit and walking make it a delight getting there with great views of the bay.

Favorite neighborhood sushi restaurant. Very friendly, freshest sushi and ask for a "special roll" and they will create an amazing roll on the fly just for you. Yum!

Amazing Sushi!

Great food, even better customer service. Everything we had was delicious. Really cute atmosphere. Definitely recommend!

Wonderful service and fresh fish

Wonderful meal with excellent service. We had the boat of sushi which was great in addition to a couple of appetizers

Really good

We went for dinner and had a very good time. The food was delicious and fresh. The waiter was quick and nice. If I have to mention a downside, it would be that we had to wait to pay as there was a problem with the cash.

Awesome!

The food and service were excellent!!! My only complaint is that my eyes were bigger then my stomach and I couldn’t finish it all!

Surprise find

By Dicko4 |

Having just stepped off the number 30 bus and not really knowing what we fancied for supper we came across this lovely, cosy little restaurant. We had never eaten Vietnamese food before and with 2 teenage daughters, one of whom is a vegetarian were reliant on the staff to help us out with menu choices. We were not disappointed! Food was lovely and the service was excellent. All in all, a fantastic last night to our stay in San Francisco.

This is Korean

By Stephanie G |

The restaurant is a Korean one So order Korean food and not sushi. If u order sushi, don’t expect Japanese standard. We had beef bibimbap and tofu seafood soup. These were quite authentic and comforting.

A Great Find

By pudgeUSAF |

This place is off the beaten tourist path a little. Real good sushi & sashimi here with Asahi beer on tap. Prices were about what I'd expect for fresh sushi in a big city. I believe the sushi plates & bento boxes on the lunch menu were $15-$18. No complaints with the service or cleanliness. There isn't a lot of seating so if you're going at a busy time or with a large group you might end up waiting for a table. Definitely recommend.

Japanese at the Wharf!

By MLAbug |

Good find ! If you are around the area and wanted to have something quick - GK - would be a good one to have dinner ! We did not want the big chain restuarants around the wharf area and stumbled on this little place. Being from around the Bay Area - I would have to say that their prices are a bit higher and limited choices than the norm but for its taste and service - commendable. the restaurant is literally a few steps from the cable car turnaround, one block from Ghirardelli Square and up the corner from Buena Vista Bar. We shared a few dishes - tempura, the ramen soup for one but we split into three ( they only served one small slice of meat - which was tiny but worth trying )and a few rolls! Good find in a bind!

Good sushi off Fishermans Wharf on Hyde.

Lovely seared tuna cheek, great quality sushi. Good saki and very good service. Plus, the chicken and udon noodles in broth was great. I will return.

Good food

Tried Japanese food first time and tasted good. Tried a maki and a chicken salad and both were good. The hostess is polite too. Helped in choosing the food.

The perfect local takeaway

By Walkinggranny |

We were staying at Suites at Fisherman's Wharf, just over the road, and twice during our stay with tired, jet lagged children, we fetched delicious sushi and noodles from them and brought it back to our suite to enjoy while the children slept. A brilliant find!

Excellent address!

By Elbth |

Particularly warm welcome in this small restaurant very close to the Cable car. Really succulent sushi with very fresh fish. We took the big boat for 4, it was enough. Even though we could have eaten twice as many as they were so good!

Ah-mei-ZING!!!

By PinkPanda1812 |

This place is the amazing. I only wish I lived here so I can come every other day. I had the special ramen. Perfect texture noodles, mouthwatering soup, sweet delicious char shu.... Just perfect. Wife gotten tofu. Be warned. It's enough for two. And yet we still managed to eat about 3/4 off it. Just go. It's amazing.

A great place for Sushi

By Julie F |

As we were traveling with munchkins, who had walked all day, we decided just to eat near the Cannery. We found a wonderful little Sushi place on Hyde Street, right where the cable cars end. The service was great, the sushi fresh and some very tasty and unusual rolls. If you go try the Alcatraz, not only was a great, the portions huge, it was a work of art. I almost didn’t want to eat it as it looked so nice. I would definitely return again!

I'm Chas(hu)-tisfied.

By Lapster2011 |

Family run place served local customers instead of the tourist crowd. Liked their well-rounded menu that included bento boxes and ramen selection besides the usual sushi plates. The ‘Original Ramen’ bowl had 2 thick-cut slices of chashu, baby bokchoy, and a boiled egg on top of a fistful of chewy noodles. The broth was creamy and tasteful. Really filled you up. Excellent choice for $13.95.

Excellent food and price

By DAVO00 |

Fantastic Vietnamese food at a very reasonable price (approx $15 entre). We're glad we found this little gem before our last night here. Now we can go back and try some other items on the menu. We ate from the Vietnamese menu but from what we could see of the Sushi, it was excellent too. Highly recommended

Average sushi

By Nenette5 |

Maybe the place is good for ramen or bento box but the rolls were not that great and fairly expensive. My son took the sushi combinaison that was fairly copious but most of the fish was not very tasty. I took some spicy tuna rolls (fish was mashed, not very rasty) and dragon roll. I do not recommend this place.

good sushi, generous portions

good quality sushi, nice quiet atmosphere. Service was attentive, portions were generous. Walking distance from Fishermen's Warf

A great little sushi bar

By Sunvsclouds |

Had dinner here for the start of a short family vacation and it was great. The service was well paced, the menu was varied with lots of choices, the entrees and sushi were fresh and well presented. It's a small though and got busy. It seems to be a more local crowd which is always an indication of a good place.

Nice location, great sushi.

By ChDoBishop |

Three co-workers and I ate at this nice restaurant last week for lunch. Freshest sashimi I have had outside of Japan. The tuna was great raw and seared with fresh minced garlic. The tako (octopus) was also very tender. Also, they had a very good selection of tempura vegetables to go with the tempura shrimp. One in our party was a vegetarian, and his sushi rolls looked like works of art, with avocado, bean sprouts and mushrooms. Service was also good. Enjoy a cold Asahi beer with your rolls. GK Kitchen is located one block over from the Ghirardelli chocolate factory, so go by there after lunch for an ice cream or chocolate sample.

Mediocre Japanese dinner

By KoolKat001 |

Restaurant was cozy and located near Ghiardelli square. Server was friendly and brought entrees quickly. Entrees were mediocre - California rolls, spicy tuna rolls, shrimp tempura , beef teriyaki , salmon teriyaki , squid. My bento box had lots of side salads. Compared to other sushi places, this was not that memorable.

Decent

Sushi roll was amazing and had spicy noodles. Pretty good. Super friendly staff. Pricey as all food in San Francisco is.

A great surprise!

By Williemann |

My wife and I ate here and were pleasantly surprised. The food was very good and tasty. If you want to get out of the main drag looking for Asian fare look into this little place. Well worth the walk up the hill.

Superb food -Totally worth a visit!

By Alex McCall |

wow! This was a brilliant find on Tripadivisor. Just a short walk away from the waterfront and you get away from all the tourist restaurants that are no doubt over priced and not good quality. This is simply the opposite- The food was exceptional, the service great and value for money- well worth it! We are here on holiday for two weeks and are considering going again. The menu is large and i actually ordered something that was a picture on the wall- not in the menu - the sizzling Bim Bap dish with steak. They were very good with our 3 year old and the food was prepared fresh and quick. One of the best meals out we have had for a while!

Food is incredible, mixed sushi plate has good selection, rainbow rolls delicious, king prawns with garlic noodles to die for. Portion sizes are Massive. With 2 small tired, jet lagged boys we were a tough audience but we loved it! Definitely would go back.

Two thumbs up!

We came in around closing time. They were super nice. The sushi was great! Great location, you could see the rail cars parked outside. Good little spot for a quick sushi bite.

You Will Be Fed Very Well

By Mike and Diane K |

A great ending to our vacation. The food was absolutely delicious. The portions were so big the four of us all were able to share the food and leave completely satisfied. The salad is a must..it is unlike any other salad at any sushi place we have been to. Make sure to try different foods from the menu. You will not be disappointed!

Sushi

Amazing sushi spot on the way to the fisherman’s wharf. Great service and prices. Ordered two different sushi rolls and really tasty

Great sushi and great find

By AllParkCityRentals |

I read the yelp reviews which were just OK and didn't do the restaurant justice. The sushi was awesome and very fresh. We liked the shrimp tempura roll so much we ordered it twice. Very reasonably priced in a very pricey area - this restaurant is a gem. If you want great sushi in a casual atmosphere don't miss this place!

Diverse Menu

Average sushi place, but there's nothing wrong with that. Close to cable car end stop on Hyde. Prices are on the high side ( but that's San Francisco).

Delightful Authentic Japanese Dinner amid Tourist Area

By Joan L |

Dinner at GK was one of our best dining experiences in San Francisco. After a long day on wine and woods bus tour, my husband and I wanted a satisfying, healthy meal that wasn't in a tourist trap. And we didn't want to wait! Deciding against the pub place next door, we turned right and there was Grandeho's Kamekyo with Zagat sign on door. Although a sushi chef was on duty, we had Vegetable Ramen and Salmon dinner. Both were deliciously prepared with fresh ingredients. That hot bowl of ramen was the best thing after a cold day in the bay area! Service was excellent, restaurant was very clean, prices were excellent considering the nice quality of food. GK was very close to hotels and tourist area, but was quiet and peaceful with a view of Hyde Street. I highly recommend!

Great food

By Oxford_2407 |

I saw this place on a Sunday night, just hopping off the last stop of the cable car @ Hyde Street. it wasn't busy which is not normally a good sign but don't let that put you off. I had a Chicken Crispy Noodle dish and their Shaken Beef dish and it was excellent, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. This is the first time, I've ever written a review of a restaurant but the food and service was so good that I felt it was important to really praise this restaurant so that its efforts and food is appreciated by others too.

Okay

By SRQTDI |

I was hopeful based on other reviews and while my experience wasn't bad, the sushi was nothing to write home about. I had the sushi combination, an Alaska roll and tea. My bill was $38. While not stated on menu or added to bill, I was provided a nice noodle salad and excellent small fresh fruit bowl for dessert. The best part was the people and atmosphere. Friendly and inviting describe the place well. Thursday night, not crowded but not empty either. Easy to find, just up Hyde from the Buena Vista.

Yummy Udon

By Antoinette B |

Stopped in to this delicious restaurant after a day walking the city. We were pleasantly surprised with their udon noodle soup and sushi. Worth the stop.
