Great Mexican Food

By kdbauder |

The food at the restaurant was excellent because of COVID we did take out. The food was hot and very flavorful.

Great Dining Experience

By T C |

What a great place for dinner. We were seated within 5 minutes. The service was excellent, servers could not do enough for you. Food was excellent. Also, the restaurant was not loud so it made for an enjoyable dinner. We had reservations and waited over an hour at Acapulco when we finally gave up and walked back to the hotel and found the Green Onion. Glad we did.

ONE OF MY FAVOURITES LETS ME DOWN

By SenorGancho |

My go to place, oh so sad. In the dumpster this night and I didn't even get to eat! Let me back up. I highly recommended this place to a colleague and he went there two nights before me. He ended up with a very strong adverse reaction which saw a lot of 'trotting' towards the washroom. That really surprised me. I thought it must have been a fluke and I was in town so I needed to go there. The night was crazy. People all over the place and the entrance was packed. There was no one at the desk so I entered deep into the restaurant. Asked one individual for a table, he directed me to a fellow. I asked him and he looked in the dining room and sat me at a table. As always, in a blink of an eye I had my tortilla chips and salsa and I ordered my Dos Equis Amber. then two gentlemen showed up, interrogating me about how I got the table. I explained and they said sorry but it was someone else's table. I get it but when I suggested they needed a better 'system' to control the mayhem, I was very rudely dismissed and strongly informed 'not to worry about it'. Well gentlemen, I won't worry about and you can rest assured that the many people on my courses that look for dining recommendations will not be directed to the Green Onion. Too bad. A smile, a shrug and a little humility would have changed the entire exchange. Must have been a bad day

Excellent service, excellent food!

By Terry H |

The atmosphere here is great! The food and service are excellent! Possibly the best Mexican food I’ve ever had! Our server was very courteous and professional. We ate dinner here prior to a cruise. Believe the other reviews, the food here is outstanding!

Fine Mexican dining in San Pedro!

We had a dinner meal there recently, and really enjoyed it! I will be back when we are nearby again! The combo meals were great.

Terrific place to start our Mexican cruise

By James M |

We stayed the night before our cruise at the Crowne Plaza across the street. We had heard that the Green Onion was good and it was. We went early on a Saturday evening. The service was fast and friendly. Maybe a bit too fast. We each ordered large margarita. The chips were good, but we found the standard salsa too mild -- we asked hotter salsa and it was very good. As I mentioned, our food came very quickly - the next time we'll wait a bit to order to enjoy our drinks and chips. We each had combination plates -- a large amount of very god food at a fair price. We'll be back for sure!

Great food and service..highly recommended

By KevininCosta |

The menu has many choices of traditional Mexican dishes as well as American cuisine. Our meals were prepared perfectly. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. Margaritas tasty and refreshing. Needless to say we enjoyed our lunch. And will return.

Amazing food

By kilsythladdie |

Amazing food, busy restaurant which is a good sign, if you’re staying at the crown plaza ( two minute walk) or nearby this is a great Mexican restaurant. The staff are very friendly and professional. The combination fajitas were tasty. The restaurant was that good we returned the next day, great service and atmosphere. 👍

Don't miss if in the area

By George A R |

We were passing through the area around dinner time and happened upon this restaurant. Since it is located downtown San Pedro, I was skeptical of what we would find at 7 pm. The restaurant had a strong local crowd which immediately said a lot about the restaurant quality. Entering the restaurant you pass by autographed photos of past customers that included movie stars, a former US President, and many military officers. Now I'm impressed and I haven't been seated Yet! Service was fast, efficient and friendly. Menu had a wide variety of Mexican AND American food. I wasn't very hungry and was surprised to find a combination plate of beans, rice, and one enchilada on the menu. Usually, restaurants only offer two or three enchiladas in a combo plate. The enchilada was very good.

Best Margarita's

By Catherine T |

This was a great find for margarita's and dinner...or lunch! My husband have enjoyed lunch, dinner and happy hour by ourselves or with friends many times.

Awesome food and service! I had fajitas combo. Chicken beef and shrimp. The serving size was huge!

By David D |

Food and service was awesome! I had fajitas combo with chicken beef and shrimp. A lot of peppers onions and tomatoes on a sizzling skillet. Beans and rice were seasoned to perfection! My wife had a taco salad. Served in a baked tortilla bowl. It was so big we could have split it. I recommend green onion for a wonderful meal

Usually really great, this time not so much

By travlinpastor |

Wow, this place is usually pretty good. I hadn’t been there in a while and was a little concerned when I was able to get parking close by (That is usually an issue) When we got inside I was put at ease by the hoist who told us there was about a 30 minute wait for two. Okay they must still be as great as in times past. I can tell you it is kind of hit and miss with the clientele sometime the language can be drunken sailor level, but most the time it’s good. (Sorry if you enjoy drunken sailor language). Okay I ordered the Chile Relleno, enchilada and taco, I ordered the Taco and Enchilada with Chicken instead of beef. It comes with the standard Refried Beans and Spanish rice. It’s usually very good, but this time I was a little disappointed. If you have read my other reviews you know I really enjoy Chile Rellenos and I have gotten them here before and enjoyed them, this time it was like a mix of egg and chile pieces (Like an omelet) wrapped around melted cheese It was not a whole chile. Don’t get me wrong, it tasted great, all that cheesy goodness, but I expected a whole chile flame broiled peeled and stuffed, bathed in the frothy eggs wash, pan fried and covered in relleno sauce and cheese drizzled over the top, mmmmmm good. Okay off to the Taco (I know weird I eat one at a time and finish before going to the next) Not bad, better last time again. The chicken was like a poached chicken and shredded no spices whatsoever? The put into a shell they made fresh there and the regular lettuce chesses and tomato. Not too exciting I like flavor this was just bland. Okay on to the enchilada – if you have read my reviews you know I am a fan of one chicken enchilada and I am spoiled by my wife’s chicken enchiladas. I have yet to find anything close to her recipe. Sadly, after trying this one, I still have found nothing close. The same poached chicken and no cheese? No flavor. It was okay though as they did put cheese on the outside and the sauce was good. On the high note h beans and rice were very good and they keep the chips and salsa flowing. I still give them a high mark because of all the tomes I have been here, this was the only time I have been disappointed. Also, my wife and I talked after the meal about the food she said her Tacos (Her favorite) she has them made with the shredded beef were very good the meat had spices and she is an expert at tacos like I am at Chile Rellenos. The Prices are very reasonable, remember I’m a cheapskate (I mean I’m frugal) and this particular Friday night, they had a strolling band (Not quite Mariachi but along that line of music)

Delicious

By Nicole L |

Super casual and our food was delicious. I ordered the carnitas tostadas and my husband had the carnitas burrito wet with red sauce.

Interesting collection of bric-a-brack

By Frank M |

There is not much choice in the area. Quirky place with lots of display cabinets of all sorts of brick-a-brack (dolls, cars etc. ) & lots of framed photos of diners on the wall. As usual you get served tortilla chips with the danger that you'll be full before your order arrives. The chili con carne had decent sized chunks of tender beef but the chili was indiscernible. Nothing out of the ordinary apar from the decor.

Excellent Spot for Mexican Food

By rmartinmitch |

We had a chance to have dinner at the Green Onion resturant during our recent trip to LA. Great drinks and excellent food. What's not to like? Lot of locals and very crowded. Very near the port area, so a good place to stop before or after a cruise out of Los Angelos. Try the giant Margaritas. Definetly worth a try!

It was so good

By schnzr4me |

Visiting family and they suggested this restaurant. So glad they did. Atmosphere is nice, plenty of room between tables, service is fast and excellent and prices are reasonable. The real winner is the food. A nice variety on the menu and every meal was delicious. We eat at Mexican restaurants a lot and I would consider this one of the best.

Wonderful Mexican Restaurant

By Shawn & Harvey |

I highly recommend the chicken enchiladas and strawberry margaritas! Really good food and friendly staff. We're staying at the hotel nexdoor. We've eaten here twice the past two days.

Lunch

By debmon825 |

Stopped in for lunch while staying overnight. Fast efficient service. Good food. Large servings. Would go back if we stay here again.

Good margaritas and Mexican food; can be noisy

By JA R |

Located near the waterfront (no views). Good Mexican food and margaritas at reasonable prices. Can get noisy when busy.

OK if you're in the neighborhood.

By Janet R |

We're from TX so have high expectations for Mexican food. They were not met. Friendly, busy staff. We were staying at the Crowne Plaza and it's about a block away. The place was packed so maybe we're a little unfair but the fajita plate was tasteless and the steak was tough. So, it's an easy walk and the servings are large. You could do worse.

Wonderful experience!

By Beth B |

Great meal! If you are in San Pedro and want Mexican, this is a very nice place to eat. Clean restaurant, great service, and really good food.

Great local restaurant!

By Often_on_road |

Recommended by the front desk staff as a place that they go, we found this restaurant busy in the evening with a lively local crowd, friendly staff and extremely well priced food. Everything was tasty and the portions huge. A great find!

One of the best mexican restaurant

By Ben1ottawa |

When you go to a restaurant at 5 pm and it's almost full...it's a good sign. We walk back later and there was a line of people waiting to get inside.Great food, great taste, great atmosphere....a must in LA

THE Go To Mexican Restaurant

By SenorGancho |

The Green Onion remains THE place for Mexican. The combination of amazing service, basic food that is prepared to perfection and great prices make for a wicked combination. I had my traditional dishes. Several helpings of the tortilla chips with their house made spicy salsa. Can't get enough of it! Followed by the beef fajitas. The meat is always sizzling hot and so so tender. Lots of goodies to stuff in the corn tortillas (although they were a little thin this time and I quickly ran out and had to ask for more) Can't wait to visit again next time I'm in town!

Wonderful menu, fun staff and delicious drinks. Tamales, enchiladas and tacos dabomb. My wife had the arroz con pollo with wonderful mole sauce

Plentiful Mexican

By robbear |

We were staying at the Crowns Plaza just around the corner and the doorman suggest the Green Onion. On a Thursday night we had no wait for a table. There were several happy family groups and it was a bit noisy when we first arrived but as they cleared out everything calmed down. Tortilla chips and salsa arrived quickly. I had a combination plate with chicken, carnitas (pork) and a cheese enchilada. Everything came hot and tasty and too much to finish.

Great place to eat near the Crown Plaza

By Randy W |

Thanks to a delayed flight, my wife and I got to the Crown Plaza around 9pm. We had planned an awesome evening at a highly Trip Adviser rated seafood place as we don't get lot of that in Colorado. We were obviously too late for that but the hotel staff recommended a new seafood place, Pappy's of San Pedro, a block away. Unfortunately, even though they are advertised to stay open till 9:30, we were met at the door with an apology for closing early due to a slow night. I mentioned them by name because even though they were closed, they went out of their way to recommend another choice! The recommended location was one block the other way from Crown Plaza, the Green Onion. One thing we do have a lot of in southern Colorado is Mexican food, but quite frankly I was tired and hungry and just wanted something to eat so we could get dinner rest before our cruise the next day, so the Green Onion it was. The food was awesome! Everywhere you go there is Little bit of difference in the way Mexican food is prepared. It all depends on where, in Mexico, the family recipes are from. Ironically, this was very similar to what were used to at home. I assume it's the Jalisco influence. But in my opinion, this food would be well rated no matter where it was located. Home made tortillas and taco shells, never ending chips and salsa while you wait, great tasting filings for tacos, burritos and enchiladas, not to mention some of the best rellenos I've ever eaten. My wife's margarita was great too. All in all, when I'm away from home, I'd rather eat something I can't get normally. But in this case, I'm glad we did! A great and convenient place to eat the night before a cruise!

Still as great as we remembered!!!

By Kathy R |

Had eaten at this restaurant several years ago, prior to going on a cruise out of San Pedro. Now, again cruising out of San Pedro, and we were delighted to find that this restaurant is still here, and still serving wonderful food in a nice atmosphere. It was a Friday night, with no reservation, but the wait was only about 15 minutes, and well worth it. The service is excellent, and the smothered burritos (green chile) were some of the best we've had anywhere. The salsa is fresh and flavorful, and the margaritas are top-notch. Will definitely return the next time we're in San Pedro, and would recommend this restaurant without hesitation.

Excellent atmosphere and fantastic food

By connierolls |

We stayed in San Pedro prior to going on a cruise, sailing from San Pedro. The evening before, which was a week day, we strolled Downtown to Green Onion Mexican restaurant. It was packed and very lively and the variety of food was amazing. The quality of the dishes and the service were very very good and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening without being rushed, even though the restaurant was very busy.

FANTASTIC AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD!

By Ileana Munoz |

After reading many reviews from the Crown Plaza of San Pedro Harbor in Los Angeles, and the reference of the Green Onion, I had to try it myself. We arrived from our cruise on Saturday, April 3, 2010 and after driving thru downtown LA, Hollywood, Sta Monica Beach, Beverly Hills, we arrived exhausted and ready to eat. Although we were kind of worried since my mother 82, my mother-in-law 86 and my husband who do not like spicy food, I convinced them to try the restaurant. It was right down the road from the hotel and super convenient. We were extremely exhausted but we had been spoiled after a week of SUPERB dining so my husband was pushing us to eat at the hotel. Praise God, I was able to negotiate the visit to the restaurant. It looks like a family owned restaurant, and very friendly ambiance. After inquiring how spicy the food was, the waiter explained that the food was not spicy unless the customer requested to spice it "up a notch." They brought chips and sauce while we looked at the menu and it was the hook and what convinced them to stay! The sauce was great and NOT spicy but we all loved it! We each ordered and the portions are HUGE! The food was fantastic and looked, tasted and WERE extremely fresh. We all left there completely stuffed and with left overs for my son that was too tired to come to eat with us. When we arrived at the hotel and he tried the food, HE LOVED IT just as we did. The prices are reasonable and the food is GREAT! My husband had a beef BURRITO for $6.00 and our plates were under $10. My husband left 1/2 of his burrito and we all had left overs of untouched food.

Enjoyed

By ianread |

Enjoyed a great meal here with colleagues. Clearly a popular eating place as it was very busy. The food was tasty and good value. The service was good, particularly considering how busy it was. I'de be very happy to eat there again.

No no no

By LeoMarwin |

I have been in this restaurant with some other collegues in a midweek day. Well absolutely no doubt, a very bad experience . Staff was fast and very friendly but food quality was bad . We took some rice with chicken (arroz con pollo ) and we found it a look like boiled chicken breast with no flavor at all . Rice was like a block of concrete. We made a big mistake!! Never again!!!

Nice Place

By TravelGypsy |

Great food and service. Happy Hour seemed to be a big hit as the bar area was very crowded and people seemed to be very "Happy". If you are in the area, give it a try.

Great Food & Service

By ship-11 |

Food was very tasty and fresh. Service was excellent and accomandating. Location was close to our rental car agency, Enterprise and our hotel San Pedro Inn & Suites. Prices were reasonable for the portions served.

Mexicans eat here

Big portions of pretty good Mexican food. Lot's of locals eat there. Near Crowne Plaza hotel.

Great Great Food!!

Have been here a few times and never a disappointment. Always fresh and quite plentiful. Fun atmosphere with a location close to hotels and World Cruise Port. For laughs and great food without breaking the bank, this restaurant is a must.

Drinko de mayo

By Scott R |

It was May 5th, and the place was super busy. The food was delicious & the service was amazing considering how busy they were. We were checked in on by 3 or 4 different service people, including our waitress, who was there whenever we wanted for anything. My shrimp were a little overcooked, but still delicious, and given the craziness of the day, easily forgivable. We spent $35 on food & $36 on drinks. I heartily endorse this place.

Great food and Margaritas

By MANUEL M |

Try the House Specials are good. The nachos and salsa excellent. Margaritas are good too reasonable prices and servings are big.

Good authentic Mexican

By tagnrocky |

We walked here from the Crowne Plaza hotel where we were staying. It’s just a half block away. I ordered the Mexican sampler of carnitas, cheese enchilada and Santa Cruz chicken with rice, beans and pico de gallo sides. The carnitas were the best , moist and flavorful, enchilada was good, but I was disappointed in the chicken. It was dry and needed sauce or something. Hubby had Green Onion tacos, 3 authentic tacos, one each of chicken, pork and beef which he thought were very good. The chips and tangy salsa were good too.

Hopping place!

By Janine S |

I really enjoyed the happy and hopping atmosphere! We were on a cruise ship and walked here to meet my nephew and girlfriend who live in the L.A. area. We had such a great time. The food was excellent. The drinks were a bit strong, but I know that is what many people want.

Yum!!

By G W |

Very clean. The salsa was not hot but very tastey with a good amount of cilantro. The chips were served piping hot and very addicting. The enchiladas were amazing. The Spanish rice was moist and fluffy. The black beans were a little dried out but once I added spoonfuls of salsa they were good. Many customers were ordering margaritas which were pretty good sized. I was driving so couldnt order one but they sure looked good. The waiter was friendly and kept my tea glass full. He replaced the salsa bowl as soon as I emptied it. Although he was busy he was definitely on the ball giving all of his tables his full attention.

great mexican

By jerwick |

Great reasonably price restaurant. Typical mexican style food. I believe this to be a locals type place. Great large margaritas.

Excellent Mexican Restaurant in San Pedro

By Steve M |

I used Trip Advisor to find a good Mexican restaurant in San Pedro - and we agreed with the vast majority of reviewers that this an excellent restaurant! I took photos of our 2 combination plates. The margaritas looked great - and many people were ordering them, but we didn’t. Since the draft beer menu was very limited - we both enjoyed ice water. Service was good!

Great Location & Great Food

By Janine B |

Found this restaurant ahead of time on Tripadvisor, as it was walking distance to the Crowne Plaza in San Pedro where we were staying before our cruise. I looked at the menu before and felt there was something for everyone in our group and the prices were reasonable. While there was a little wait and some noise, as there were very busy on a Saturday night, it was all worth it. Chile Rellenos were light, not greasy and some of the best she had had in years. Fajitas were a generous portion, and I had the fajita quesadilla which I thought, I won't be able to finish this, yet it was so tasty, I did. Another member of the party has a seafood dish that he was very pleased with. If we are in the area again, we will definitely be going back for another meal. As other left the restaurant, most had to-go containers, letting us know the portions were going to be big. Wish we lived closer!

Fast service, good affordable food

By Karin G |

Walked in, no wait, immediately greeted, seated and waited on. Lots of variety, and usual offerings for Mexican restaurant. Great salsa, flavorful rice and beans. Son had beef fajitas, very good, and I had two tacos, which was plenty with sides. Special requests honored, no issues. Great service and very reasonable prices.

Enjoy the local cuisine

By TexKS |

Wife and I tried this place based upon the hotel recommendation. The place was full and loud, but in a fun way. Lots of margaritas were served while we were there. Being from Texas, I love Mexican food. This was a little different from what I usually get, but the food was very good and the plates were full of food. The enchiladas are very tasty.

This place is so good.

By jose v |

I always come in here like three times a week the food is so so delicious and respectable price. You can come alone or with family and friends this place is for all..

What a surprise

By Michel V |

Unpretentious mexican restaurant. Its been in San Pedro across from the maritime museum for ever! Great unexpensive drinks and food. Very crowded, expect to be on a wait. This is going to be a regular eating spot for us.

Good California Mexican Food

By genelary |

Being from Texas, and having had Mexican food in California before, I was a little hesitant to eat here. I was pleasantly surprised to find TexMex food at a reasonable price. The enchiladas, tacos and sides were very good. Walking distance from the Crowne Plaza hotel.

We found this restaurant at TA and it was terrific. Atmosphere was great and the food was terrific. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Mexican restarant

By Cathy M |

This was minutes from the San Pedro hotel DoubleTree. Great food and drinks. Service was fast and friendly. We had fajitas and they were great and plentiful. Restarant had lots of history and was in the San Pedro business district. Would recommend this place.

Skip this restaurant

By Patricia B |

The food was bland, salsa terrible, chips terrible. Service was the only redeeming part of our visit. I would not eat here again.

Pass on the Happy Hour

By baaaaaaa |

Small crowded bar area. Happy hour not so great. Quesadilla $5.95, was tiny. Taquitos were $5.95 for just TWO. Chips & Salsa consisted of a very small bowl of chips and some salsa. However, the guacamole was fresh & good. Margarita tasted like a 7-eleven "Brain Freeze" special. Parking in back, entrance in front. Service was average. Ambience consisted of a lot of 5x7 framed photos of complete strangers. Some toy model cars displayed. The best I can say is average/so-so.

Nice place

By rogeriorrcoelho |

Nice place with great Mexican food. Many options on the menu, waiters are very polite and speaks Spanish too.

Great, Authentic Mexican Food

By Cruiserpam1 |

The Green Onion is our pre-cruise dinner ritual every time we sail out of San Pedro. Consistently great mexican food at reasonable prices. The mexican sampler dinner is our favorite. A lot of food and a great selection. Service was fast and efficient. Can't wait to go back.

Wonderful Discovery

By Louden77 |

We were staying at the nearby Crowne Plaza hotel prior to embarking on a cruise. We had walked by this restaurant on a previous occasion but had not had a chance to visit. We set out to rectify this oversight. We were warmly greeted and very impressed with the decor of the restaurant. There was a good crowd and we had the impression the restaurant was popular with the locals. We were promptly visited by our waiter and soon had some beer and complementary chips with two versions of salsa. My wife ordered the chicken tostada with cheese enchilada and black beans and rice ($8.50) while I ordered the shrimp flores ($15.95) which came with a cup of olbandigos soup, a hearty chunky vegetable and meat ball soup. These dishes were very generous and were outstanding. Throughout the meal our waiter made sure everything was to our satisfaction and that our drinks were refreshed. This turned out to be the best Mexican restaurant experience we have had and an outstanding value.

Great Place To Eat

By BeachSlug |

The thing that immediately stands out for this place is the cleanliness. Very Very clean. My family had some sizzling hot and tasty fajitas. The waiter was outstanding. A great place to eat, and so close to the USS Iowa so you can stop before or after your tour. Great Place To Eat

Cheerful, lively place with local diners

By molivos |

I was in San Pedro for a cruise and was not sure if Green Onion would be a good choice for dinner. My fear was that it was for tourists. My hotel was nearby. I prefer to walk to dinner when I am on vacation and decided to give Green Onion a try. The place is filled with locals, model cars, and dolls. I enjoy Mexican food and liked the extensive menu with reasonable prices. The food was flavorful and filled me up. I will definitely go again when I am in San Pedro.

Fun night with friends

By LovemyAcura🌵 |

We stayed at the Crown Plaza Hotel and this hotel was recommended to us for good Mexican food. It did not disappoint. Live music was included in the atmosphere the night we were there. I would go again. I ordered the taco salad.

Great place to eat

By FrankFlurter |

We went to the Green Onion as we were staying just around the corner in the Crowne Plaza. A lovely Mexican with a great choice of meals, quick service and reasonably priced. Would recommend a visit.

EXCELLENT SERVICE - EXCELLENT FOOD

By SenorGancho |

Our go to place for Mexican. The service was outstanding this visit with a very engaged and attentive server. He really added to the enjoyment of the evening. The fajitas were pretty good overall. Amazingly hot and tender (beef) with lots of flavour and crispiness in the veggies! My only complaint was the flour tortillas were sticking together and a bit mushy, The tamales were excellent. Melt in your mouth chicken bursting with flavour. Huge portion! Margaritas, what can I say. Excellent. Be sure to ask for their hot salsa dip with your tortillas. Awesome

Authentic Mexican food

By HighlanderLJ |

Being a Texan, I'm so used to Tex-Mex food in my state. This place gave me something totally different, and very authentic. Not far from the USS Iowa museum, it was worth the short drive. I would've walked if I knew it was so close. Nice place to eat on a Sunday afternoon. Staff was the freindliest, very hospitable. Place was fairly quiet setting, which was to my liking, and wouldn't have minded if noisy. Prices are very reasonable. Very pleased with this. I so loved this place. Absolutely loved it. The shredded pork on the side was magnificent, the enchiladas and other items were a mouthful. I left there happy and full. Wished this was in Texas.

Great Mex

By Mark L |

Very tasty California Mexican (Baja and Sonoran) food. The tortilla chips are fresh and the Margaritas refreshing. This is a San Pedro favorite, one block from the Main Channel of the Port of Los Angeles, close to the Maritime Museam. Family friendly and also a nice modest sports bar. Good service too.

Lunch at The Green Onion

By SGLA2017 |

Came in for lunch good service long established restaurant in the area , the food was not good had combination enchilada and taco chips salsa were ok overall not very good mexican food

"Double margarita" is not for the meek!

By OMGYoga |

Family-owned and a favorite of locals, especially law enforcement, The Green Onion is a great spot to stop on your way to / from your cruise liner waiting at World Cruise Center in San Pedro! The food is great, the service even better. Their mole is traditional and margaritas? Delish! Be sure to ask to see "the double" before you order one. If you still order the Double Margarita, be sure to stir it before you take a swig through the straw. Bartenders tend to be pretty heavy handed with the tequila! ¡Salud!

Good food, well priced.

By ayrshireboy2604 |

Went there a couple of times recently and thoroughly enjoyed the food especially the fajitas. Service was very efficient but not overbearing. We were told that there was a 15 minute wait however the table was ready before that. Would recommend this restaurant.

Awesome!

By gtl97 |

Margarita is one of the best ever. Salsa is fresh & homemade....lots of cilantro and onion. Green sauce reminds me of New Mexico.

Wonderful food and staff

By D H |

Steps away from the Crown Plaza Hotel. For you cruisers who stop overnight in San Pedro before or after your cruise, you have to try this place. The food is great and the atmosphere authentic. Great staff, service, and location.

Just OK

By Armando S |

Food was OK, nothing spectacular. The margaritas were a little flat. Staff was wonderful, quick service. Off street parking makes it easy to get to.

First time

By HotelGuruGirl |

Nice little local spot. I ordered the potato tacos and a cheese quesadilla to go. Came with chips, salsa, guac and sour cream. All the fixins Portions were a good size. The quesadilla wasn't a greasy mess and was properly cooked. Potato tacos could have used more cheese in them. House salsa is pretty tasty. My order came out fast and hot. Enjoyed the food and would eat here again.

Great lunch specials

By Julia32174 |

I got to the GO every time I aam in San Pedro. Crunchy beef tacos w pulled beef. Tastey chiles rellanos. Get the spicy salsa for a kick.

Great food, excellent service

By ExperiencedTravelers |

This restaurant has traditional Mexican food with an extensive menu. The margarita was perfect and the service was very prompt. While the chips were a bit disappointing all of the rest more than made up for it. We will definitely go back when in the area.

Went back on the second night..

By revlasvegas |

Fantastic margaritas! However, if you order the double (big one), make sure that you aren't driving. Amazing food, very good service - great experience. We were so impressed the first night, that we went back on the second night of our stay.

Christmas company dinner

By jhemp1 |

We had a Christmas company dinner at the green onion in San Pedro and the food was very good. We did have 12 people in our party and the drinks were a little slow in coming. Overall the experience was very good our waiter was very friendly and helpful. I will be returning for additional meals.

Great food, drinks and friendly servers. The food was tasty and fresh...fresh...fresh! The salsa was very good and chips were so fresh!

THIS IS WHERE TO GO FOR MEIXCAN MUNCHIES

By SenorGancho |

I love the Green Onion. It is simple, fresh food that is bursting with flavour. The staff are great. They will ensure your water, salsa, chips and drinks are always topped up (Make sure to ask for the spicy salsa. It is house made and fantastic but not for the faint of heart). I'm always torn between the Steak Ranchero or the Fajitas. The one problem which is a good thing, is that your food comes out so hot that you have to wait until it cools down. Now that is fresh! Its basic, its not fancy and that is perfect! Worth the trip

Mexican Food Pre-Cruise

By Buck515151 |

We were getting on a ship the next day for a 14 day cruise. From cruising in the past we know that the cruise ships don't really serve much Mexican food - especially not main courses for dinner. So we thought we would get a fix before leaving shore. The food was great with a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Service was good and it was also a good value. We will do this again the next time we cruise out of San Pedro.

Just Okay

By Vickie_Bernie |

We loved that we were able to easily cross the street and dine at this restaurant while staying at the Crowne Plaza. First issue was is this the entrance? Thought we walked into a bar instead of a restaurant. No hostess to greet us so we sort of stood there confused. We were told to take any table. We sat in a booth and I ordered a club soda and partner ordered a beer. The soda was served and there was something floating in the glass, they took it away and gave me a new one. Then when they gave me a plate it too was obviously dirty, again they replaced it. For our meal we shared a combination plate that included a taco, enchilada, and chile rellenos. The taco and enchilada were very good and fresh but the chile rellenos was mushy and obviously reheated. Loved the chips and salsa. Prices were very reasonable and service was very good. It filled our hunger need, but I would probably go elsewhere next time.

Good place

By suzanne b |

Good place for Mexican food. Everything was good but a bit too spicy for us. Generous amount of ingredients in both the burrito and the enchiladas. Wish it had just a bit less heat

Make a reservation! Busy place!

By lovetotravel7112014 |

We did not have reservations and went on a Friday night around 6:30 pm, our wait was over 1 hour! VERY busy place. The food was good, not the best ever, but still very good.l They bring chips and salsa to the table and if you eat it all, they bring more! Great service!

Good food, service

By Nancy H |

In town to go on the royal caribbean cruise. Restaurant was recommended by the hotel we were staying at. Food itself was amazing the only downside we had was the service. Took over forty five minutes for us to get a waiter to come by and take the order. And it wasn't even that busy. I would definitely recommend the food maybe for take out.

Good service!

By luvoc11 |

Looked forward to my first visit here as a family member who lives in the area suggested it. I had the arroz con pollo. The mole sauce was yummy and the shredded chicken was good. The rice was "meh". The chips and salsa were good and one dinner companion really enjoyed the virgin margarita!

Great Mexican Food

By Mizzou214 |

We were staying at the Crowne Plaza Hotel for a night prior to a cruise. This restuarant is an easy 10 minute walk from the hotel, and was a nice find. The Mexican food was excellent, and it is not expensive. We knew that our 15-day Hawaiian cruise would likely not offer many chances for south-of-the-border cuisine, so we were glad to be able to get a Mexican food fix!

Yummy!

By Tammy S |

Food was delicious! I had the Mexican Pizza and my friend had the Green Onion soft taco, steak, chicken and carnitas. Everything was great!

Pre Cruise Dinner

By biggarbob |

We enjoyed a nice selection of Mexican style dishes for dinner the night before our cruise. The quantity was substantial for just the two of us since we selected the meal for 2.

Mexican to the Max

By LGlinzman |

Most authentic and most delicious Mexican food I ever had. We ordered the largest combo and it was one of each, taco, chili relleno, tamale and carne asado with superb rice and beans.

Tip of the spear

By usmc1125eg |

They continue to surprise me with how delicious their food is and the exceptional attentiveness of the staff. The food is why we continue to return, when we are in town, to this hidden gem. Please keep up the good work. Cheers

Darn good Cali-Mexican food

By Hank H |

we had a late lunch here after our cruise and was very happily surprised by the quality of the food and the great service we received. Loved all the Christmas decorations as we walked in. Highly recommend the Chili Relleno and the green sauce on anything is GREAT!

Cheap

By Bowie S |

Great food fills pretty fast but its very cheap they also have stuff for the kids also free refills and the atmosphere is great and the restaurant is very very close by to the clowne plaza hotel where my family and i stayed

Great food

By Cindy A |

Food was great, very filling. Had a steak chimi and it was more than enough food. Waiter was a little slow refilling our glasses but otherwise it was exceptional.

Green Onions are good for you

By Mark L |

A classic fixture in downtown San Pedro is the modern Green Onion Mexican Restaurant & Cantina. Plenty of parking on the premises, really authentic Mexican cuisine, and huge portions. Great staff and service. The chips, salsa, and margaritas can't be beat.

Excellent food and service

By LFSAHWY |

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. I recommend this restaurant if you are in the area and like Mexican.

Enormous portions

By BetsyCairns |

We stayed overnight at the nearby Crowne Plaza and needed dinner. The Green Onion was pretty well packed out on a Sunday night and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I claim no expertise in Mexican food, but we enjoyed the 2 dishes we ordered from the extensive menu. When the food arrived it was 4 times what we could eat and we shared a bottle of excellent Merlot which was priced at only $18 - incredible value. Many of the patrons left with a big grin and a styrofoam box containing the remains of their meal. We recommend Green Onion to everyone who is not on a diet.

Carne Moreno and 2 Negro Modelos

By Jon A |

I'd flown in from Seattle, caught a shuttle through traffic to San Pedro, and checked into the nearby Sunrise Hotel. The shuttle driver told me that he'd eaten at the Green Onion & found it pretty good. I'd have to agree. Their carne Moreno with two Negro Modelos cost $22.84. I was hungry, it tasted good, and the beers settled the dust of a long day's travel. I'd eat there again.

Great Mexican food

By MikeWandaTravel |

We were staying at the Crowne Plaza and the Green Onion is very close by. We had lunch here on Thursday October 1st and dinner on Friday October 2nd. Both visits service was slow at lunch we weren't given menus but ordered from daily specials displayed on the table. My husband had Machaca for dinner and LOVED it. Chips come in a small bowl, U.S. Midwesterners are used to larger baskets. Food good, drinks good, don't go if you are in a hurry.

Best Mexican food We have had in a while

By Fred N |

Food was fresh and authentic Mexican. Prices reasonable and fun atmosphere. Decor was great and suited the restaurant. We had a fun time.

Fast Mexican food

By Dibbbkk |

Service was fast and friendly. The food was very tasty. Would love an option for a half potion though as neither of us could even get through a quarter of the meal - extremely generous but would like to waste less

The Peach Margarita is to die for!

By Mia H |

Whenever we visit San Pedro a stop at Green Onion is a must. We love the Peach Margarita! I always get a chimichanga and never have any regrets other than I leave too full.

great food,service and margarita's

By John R |

I travel to L.A. on business several times a year and even have business meetings at the Green Onion in San Pedro. In all the years that I have gone to this restaurant, one thing among others that hasn't changed, is the quality of food. Other restaurants I have visited, cut back on the quality of their food, smaller shrimp, much smaller cubed beef etc. If you want consistently great food, great service, and great margarita's, visit the Green Onion. This place is always very busy, go early, around 3:30pm to 4:00pm for a booth next to the windows for a nice view of the harbor.

STUFFED TO THE BRIM WITH EXCELLENT FRESH DELICATIBLE FOOD

By SenorGancho |

We all know how it is when one has a long time relationship, and there is a falling out, but most importantly, when things improve, there is nothing better than make-up dining! Well we finally got back to this fine locale and were treated to a feast and some outstanding customer service and a table with a view to watch the cruise ships waddle on by. At first I was a bit surprised that it took longer than 10 seconds to get our bowl of house made tortilla chips and salsa, but at last the goodies arrived. I love the house 'hot' special salsa as it is filled with fresh chopped jalapeños and perhaps other secret ingredients. A definite must-have over the regular octane. We started off with a two-fister double margarita, frozen. Mmm that was so good. It is always a difficult decision whether to go for the steak ranchero or the beef fajitas. I went for the fajitas and I am still stuffed. We also had the shrimp fajitas. Both dishes pipping hot when they arrive at the table, the fresh grilled veggies had an amazing 'char' on them (the shrimp as well) exploding with flavour (remember to add in the house high octane salsa!). The guacamole side was excellent and unfortunately they always bring out this plate of delicious rice and refried beans that one has to eat, right? I am soooo stuffed. A fantastic meal along with the efficient and attentive customer service made for a great night.

Mexican Food that Satisfies

By GLM |

This is a hidden gem near the Port of Los Angeles. You’ll find all the traditional dishes in their extensive menu. The beef enchiladas are very good as are the chile verde enchiladas. For dessert you can enjoy their flan or fried ice cream. Excellent and prompt service in a warm and welcoming setting.

Great for Pre-cruise & Happy Hour

By C_n_H_Pure |

We met a bunch of our fellow cruisers here before a cruise out of San Pedro recently. I've been coming to the Green Onion for a very long time as I used to have a great aunt and uncle who lived in San Pedro. Normally Carnitas are my go to dish in Mexican restaurants, but the Green Onion has a Liver & Onion dish that I live. It is hard to find liver in a restaurant these days, so when I am at the Green Onion, it is my go to. I got a Carnitas Taco on the side just to sate my Carnitas Crave. But everyone agreed, the best "dish" was the Margaritas. The Green Onions pours great, strong Margaritas in a variety of flavors. A few of those and the Nacho appetizer and it could be a meal unto itself.

Decent Mexican place a half block from the Crowne Plaza

By Charles G |

Beats the hotel restaurant and cheaper too. Good but not great Mexican. Friendly staff, never a wait. Ate there twice on a 1 week stay.

Locals eat here!! Need I say more?

By Francine M |

The food was absolutely delicious, portions were GINORMOUS and the place was packed (a lot of locals!!) …we will be back when we cruise from San Pedro again!

Old Time decor, great food.

By Terry R |

The Green Onion restaurant is appears to be one of those "been there forever" kind of places. The decor is firmly rooted in a decades ago style. Walls completely covered in small pictures of celebs, friends and family. Odd collections of auto models and other collections in display cases. The food was great and done is a very traditional style. Chips were hot, hot sauce fresh and tasty and entrees tasty. Service was outstanding, quick and responsive. We will return!

Mexican Restaurant near Cruise Ships

By Caseyp35 |

While staying at the Crowne Plaza in San Pedro we walked one block down the street to the Green Onion. It was recommended to us by a person on our cruise. It is a family owned neighborhood hangout where the locals all go. The food, the Margaritas, and the service was great.

Amazing Mexican Food!

By Delon W |

We were spending the night in San Pedro before leaving on a cruise and this restaurant was across the street from our hotel. After reading the reviews we decided to try it and are so glad we did! Awesome food! Great customer service! Can’t wait to get back from the cruise so that we can eat here again!

Basic

By Matt W |

No frills Mexican food, very basic but obviously doing something right as we couldn't get a table one night.

Really really good

By Johnny V |

This restaurant was walking distance from our hotel so we decided to try it out. The food was fantastic wasn't spicy wasn't hot the service was prompt it was delicious best Mexican food I ever had. The price is very very reasonable. We had the combination plate Taco enchilada and it was very good. Chips and salsa delicious.

Too much to eat

By Eve_Delta |

We had a variety of Mexican food dishes. The food was really great but it was way too much for us. Suggest you share a meal with a friend. It was a fun setting for the kids with the displays of old fashioned cars, etc.

Best Margaritas and Mexican Food in the South Bay!

By CaliPalosVerdes |

We have been dining at the Green Onion for about 30 years. Their margaritas are second to none, and their food is extraordinarily delicious. We've never had a bad meal there. Moreover, their service is impeccable.

Nice surprise

By EMS61 |

Checked out the green onion while waiting for cruise departure It was a great find, wonderful food, great atmosphere, good serving sizes, great margaritas.

Excellent Mexican Food

By KarenC0919 |

We needed a quick and early dinner near our hotel after a long day of traveling. The Green Onion was a winner. Started with complementary chips and salsa. Loved the salsa!! I had a bowl of chicken tortilla soup and a side of Chile Relleno. While the soup wasn’t the traditional tomato based broth I expected I was not disappointed. Served nice and hot and loaded with chicken, cheese and colorful tortilla along with a generous slice of avocado. This was a my first time trying Chile Relleno and it was good to try something new. Much larger than I expected. Hubby had the Steak Ranchero specialty of the house served with black beans and Spanish rice. Delicious flavorful sauce and I stole quite a few fork fulls of beans. The plate was enormous! Too tired to try the margaritas today so we had a coke and a water. Overall with the tip the bill was less than $40. Place was filling up as 6:00 hour approached. Looked like a mix of locals and travelers as this restaurant is close to the cruise port. Decor is dated and tired looking but the food more than makes up for it. Prompt friendly and attentive service.

The best Mexican food I've ever eaten

By Laura W |

We discovered this place by complete accident, and we were not disappointed. We were in LA for 5 nights and we ate here for 3 nights. We were greeted by a lovely lady at the reception, who remembered us and knew what we were going to order. We would highly recommend the Cadillac drink, it was divine. The staff here were really friendly and would ask if we were being seen when they saw us waiting for the food. The decor in the restaurant is unique and its lovely to see the history of the family who run and own the restaurant. Definitely a hidden gem. Would recommend everyone to go here if you are in the area.

Basic Mexican food in a great bar.

By Michael B |

Love to go here for lunch, my favorite is Grilled beef liver topped with onions and Anaheim chili, and sometimes for a change I order Arroz con Pollo, which is chicken and rice topped with a mole sauce and green sauce. The Chilly-relleno and fish tacos are also pretty good. All the walls are cover in photos and memorabilia. Service always fast and friendly. Its close enough to walk to from the cruise ship terminal. TIP: if you are not hungry check out their bar, it has great service and ambience. If you’ve found this review helpful, I would appreciate a thumbs up below.

Solid but not exceptional

By ALLSLC |

Sunday afternoon exploring San Pedro and decided on Mexican. This was the highest rated Mexican food in the area so we chose this. Service was slow for a not very full restaurant. Salsa tasted bland (imagine tomato sauce with some chunks of onions). I had a deluxe nachos which were fine but nothing special. Son had fajitadillas (fajita vegetables in a quesadilla), again, fair but nothing exciting. Took forever to get refills or the check. All in all, fair but not worth a second shot.

Nice Spot!

By BugattiBoi88 |

QuesadillasGood ole Mexican restaurant with extremely good margaritas! Made a spontaneous trip to California this part weekend and my best friend had suggested this place! By the looks of yelp I wasn't all that enthused but I thought to myself why not? Never can go wrong with authentic Mexican food! Was just hoping my stomach was going to behave afterwards LOL (No pun intended) but yeah we got there late on a Friday night half the customers were stumbling out the place so I thought well darn they must have some good drinks! We ordered the classic margaritas I believe they were only $5 and I went with some sort of thing that was a quesadilla and a mixture between I guess a burrito? Idk but it was good the overall experience was good for what it was worth I didn't have high exonerations I just wanted some good greasy food and great drinks! I received that and more! No complaints! things lol

Great !

Had a great dinner ! Drinks were good and service was excellent ! It was a little noisy but we were a large party next to us

Noisy but fun

By Suziq614 |

Food and service were good. Hard to find front door. Food came out hot. They accommodate special orders.

Excellent food!

By Latricia B |

We were visiting in the area with no car so looking for restaurants within walking distance of the USS Iowa attraction. This was rated well and the rating was correct. We were here during lunch and noticed that several of the USS Iowa staff were also eating here along with what looked like local office/medical staff. You can never go wrong when you find a restaurant that the locals take advantage of. Great lunch menu at a low cost.

Great Lunch Stop

By coolbreeze2 |

We were staying at the Crown Plaza and noticed the Green Onion Mexican Restaurant down the street. We had a late lunch from their special lunch menu. The portions were large and tasted so good. The cold beers and great margaritas made for a perfect afternoon.

Great Time at the Green Onion

By Vecchio7 |

We were staying at the Crowne Plaza across the street and thought we would give this restaurant a try. At first, when we walked in, we were a little hesitant because it seemed like a tourist trap, but the menu did look reasonably priced and the salsa was fantastic, so we stayed. My hubby loves the shrimp fajitas. I got steak tacos with a special sauce. It was the best steak taco I've ever tasted. Great service, vibrant atmosphere, amazing food! What more could you ask? One extra bonus, my kiddos loved the jello with whipped cream that came with their kid's meal. The bill came to only $50 for a family of 4. I thought that was very reasonable.

Fun Atmosphere, Enh Food

By Bert P |

The Green Onion is clearly popular. I went with some friends on a Sunday night, and had to wait for 15 minutes to get a table. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth the wait. While the price wasn't bad, it was a tad high for Mexican food. I had the enchiladas, which were covered with too much sauce. So much so, that I had trouble finding the actual enchiladas themselves. The service was perfunctory - not rude, not friendly, Since the place was hopping, I assumed our waiter was making hay while the sun shone, and was getting us in and out as quickly as possible. The decor is an odd admixture of 1950s kitsch and ranchero chic. Fun, but not necessary to anything except tacking on a couple of bucks to the entrees. Better Mexican food is to be found a couple of blocks away at the Happy Diner, where the food, service, and price are much more palatable.
