We had a nice experience last night at Greens. Bright sun off the water, view of Marina toward Golden Gate. A really nice evening and meal.

Go just before sunset so that you can enjoy the westward view over the marina and toward the Golden Gate Bridge. This being San Francisco, the wine list is very impressive (and quite international). The service is first rate, friendly and professional. The food is imaginative, slightly rustic, somewhat Italianate vegetarian food, following the legacy of the first chef, Deborah Madison. It may not knock your socks off, but combined with the rest of the experience, you will leave happy and satisfied.

A great vegetarian restaurant with excellent food, amazing views and outstanding service - what more can I say? Book in advance as this place is popular!

Fun location on the marina. Great redwood burl in the entry. Numerous vegan options, plus amazing sourdough bread French toast - delicious! Roomy, attractive restaurant with great staff.

so sad to see all the lovely food and work of Chef Somerville is now gone. Restaurant empty, flavors indelicate and atmosphere without any interest.

ordered some side dishes for thanksgiving on thursday, november 23, 2023. all of the side dishes were for myself. i also got a dessert which was the apple caramel crumb pie to share. for the price paid which came to approximately $275 including the tax & sf mandate fee of 6,.5 % (health & welfare fee for sf employees), my experience unfortunately fell far short of my expectations with this food. i would not order my next thanksgiving meal here again. l thought the execution & flavors of 3 of the 4 side dishes ordered were not up to what i expected nor did i particularly like the 3 dishes as described below so would not order them again. i went into this having high hopes as i have been someone who has enjoyed some great meals at greens restaurant over the past many years. the cornbread stuffing tasted ok. the texture was "grainy" & not what i expected. the flavor was nothing special & i couldn't really detect any cornbread flavor or any specific ingredients that stood out to me in the flavor. overall a disappointment. the lemon sumac brussels sprouts were ok. a little dry but helped with the addition of the tahini-date dressing that came with it. nothing special here. i love brussels sprouts so again was disappointed. the gochujang & brown sugar sweet potatoes were ok. i was looking forward to trying this "korean-inspired" item described as being "a little spicy." no spicy flavor here...just some sweet potatoes without that much flavor overall. disappointed again. the best side dish for me was the outstanding cranberry sauce. tart, full-bodied, bursting with fresh cranberry flavor, tangy & with the added "kick" of star anise. overall a winner & i loved it! glad i ordered 2 containers so will eat again today, friday, november 24 for the day after thanksgiving meal. have not yet tried the apple caramel crumb pie which will be tried today, friday, november 24. was very difficult to cut this densely topped with crumbs pie. the topping was very hard like a brick & the quarter portion we cut out instantly crumbled all up when we tried to cut it into 4 smaller wedges. will see how it tastes today. ordered 2 bottles of the navarro vineyards grape juice. so far have only tried the white gewurztraminer one. light, flavorful & delicious. did enjoy this very much.

I was really hopeful when I saw the reviews, however my experience was far from what was reflected there. The welcome was good, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Starting with the wines, the choice was limited, only by the glass at high prices for the wines I like and no real full bodied wines. When asking they did not have any stronger... but it looks like this was a miscommunication. At the end of the meal I notice the tables around us all got a separate wine card, which we never received (I would have ordered a bottle instead). For the starter we both had the potato griddle cakes, ok flavors and nice for homestyle cooking. It arrived very quickly. Where it went horribly wrong was at the main dishes. I ordered the truffled corn with morels and portobello mushrooms as I love truffle. The only truffle present was on the menu though as the flavor was not there, nor was there even the slightest truffle smell which is a feat. I recommend cheating with truffle oil and truffle salt if you can’t get good fresh truffle, but for 28$ I would remove it from the menu. The morels were rehydrated or just over cooked as were the portobellos. I did not bother with deserts. The prices are quite high, but that was expected given the location. Still getting two courses for the price of a 4 course vegetarian meal at a Michelin starred restaurant a few weeks earlier in Europe feels a bit poor. Overall it leaves me feeling that vegetarian restaurants and Greens specifically should up there game and start competing on quality, not just dining choice. The market for vegetarians wanting finer dining choices is there nowadays.

For our group, this was a celebratory dinner after the completion of a big project, a treat by the producer of that project. 13 of in in the party, on a Sunday evening. Greens is maintaining mindfulness re covid protocols, per vaccine proof and masks on entering until seated, at least until engagement in drinking and eating. Also, besides having a reservation in place (and it sounded like there were mainly two seating options, around the 6 and then 8pm time .. however we much preferred something in the middle and it was indicated that that would be worked with), and the requirement that all members of the party needed to be there on site, at 715pm, before seating could occur, it was probably close to 8pm that we were actually seated. So just be ready to have a leisurely evening if dining, especially on a lovely weekend evening, and if a larger party. As for the dining experience, we had a lovely time, and the food was visually lovely and tasty. Our guess per service pace was that perhaps the restaurant was a little short on wait staff (which seems to be a typical issue in the industry at this pandemic juncture time). Have to say I ordered a bowl of pea/lentil soup, then the potato leek pancakes (3), and then finished with the flan .. wow on that flan! Even with the vegetarian basis, I believe all felt satiated, and appreciated being introduced, by our producer host, to this well-known SF restaurant!

Marina district where I live has an obvious unique feel,,framed about softness, kindness, lots of babies, and young families, and yes, lots of money. Where better to have a vegan meal in an army facility, overlooking the golden gate, surrounded by redwood burl from fallen trees, with a caring chef who boosts the broccoli rabe on request with a waiter who rides his bike home over pacific heights at closing time. Ah the marina at night And the flavors of the spring rolls, the Meyer lemon pasta, were lovely. Go at sunset

Greens continues its long tradition of creating the most amazing, innovative, delicious vegetarian dishes with seasonal, local ingredients. The Greens menu changes with each season. They feature some familiar dishes (spring rolls, cheese board, Little Gems salad) along with the more unusual dishes (carrot hummus, fettucine with chestnuts and mushrooms, chick pea tagine). This is great if you have some guests who are unsure about eating vegetarian. For vegetarians and vegans, it's heaven; pick anything on the menu! The portions are ample, service is attentive without being over-bearing, and you can see the view through the large windows, even if seated at the opposite wall. Be sure to make reservations for dinner seating -- it's busy even on a week night.

I had lunch (and also a dinner) in this beautiful vegetarian restaurant . Atmosphere is great, far from crowds and waiters are really gentle and helpful suggesting their delicious plates. Eggplants pizza, salads and pumpkin burger were amazing. Great experience!

I found the menu and whole experience boring. It’s relatively hard to get to and not worth the ride ... sorry

We tried a number of different items on the menu, and the flavours were incredible. The place itself is gorgeous, with a very unique feeling. A must try in San Francisco.

This is a pure vegetarian restaurant. Sommelier is outstanding. Friendly, knowledgeable, excellent wine selection. Highlight of evening. Food is excellent.

Having made a reservation at Greens through Open Table, at reception we were informed that only tables outside were available. Apparently our reservation request was processed this way. It was to cold to eat ourside, so we had to return home. No effort was made to find a solution for us. We didn’t feel very welcome.

Went here straight after my son had proposed to his girlfriend. Out of the 9 members of our group she is the only vegetarian. I didn’t enjoy the food at all, very bland and expensive for the dishes we received. Disappointed that the waitress cleared everyone’s plates away while I was still eating. She brought out tea and coffee without milk and sugar so we had to ask for some. Thought it would have been better because of previous reviews.

Went with a group of 5 with a reservation on Saturday night. We were put in what felt like the "back room". It is a lovely location right on the water, but as it was sunset time, the blinds were down (to prevent sun from streaming in) and there was no view. Service seemed slow. Food was alright, but not spectacular. It was fresh and the menu has plenty of choices for everyone, even non-vegetarians should be fine. The worst aspect was that it is super noisy. I could not hear others at my own table speaking in normal tones. I probably would not make an effort to go back. Though others that I know feel it is a favorite restaurant in SF.

Their website says that the opening of Greens in 1979, has forever changed the image and appreciation of vegetarian food in America. Recommended highly by the cognoscenti, Greens quite lives up to its reputation. The location brings it great value. Nestled in Fort Mason which is replete with history, with views of the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, tastefully done muted interiors and the neatly laid out tables outdoor with space heaters that blunt the sharp winds blowing off the Bay, it’s a big thumbs up for the ambience. For the entrees we ordered a Small Plate of Grilled peaches with goat cheese, watercress salad, honey and hazelnuts. The peaches were grilled just enough, without taking away the softness and aroma of the fruit. The goat’s cheese took a little getting used to but the watercress salad, honey and roasted hazelnut brought it all together to a nicety. The soup of the day, chickpea in tomatoes was pure comfort food - nothing new nothing distinctive. The Roasted Heirloom Tomato Pizza with farm herbs and mozzarella was very good. The crust and cheese done to perfection and the herbs and tomatoes both subtle yet rich with authenticity. Chipotle Barbecued Eggplant with summer beans, corn, tomatoes, roasted poblanos and jalapeno cornbread was a bit underwhelming. The eggplant was a tad too dominant, jalapeño cornbread did not really fit in and the roasted poblanos could have had a stronger presence. Yet there was not a single jarring element. The portions are deceptive and we had no space left for dessert. This was a happy thing because we were already looking forward to coming back. With such a formidable reputation, a premium location and an uncommon cuisine, Greens could have been much heavier on the purse. If at all one has to pick a bone it would be that there could have been more on the menu. Exclusively vegetarian restaurants are hard to come by and a few more options would have been welcome.

Located in the Fort Mason Center overlooking San Francisco Marina with views of the Golden Gate Bridge. A very good childhood friend who lives in the Bay Area recommended Greens and what a great way to catch up on life and have an amazing lunch together! In the last couple of years my food choices now include healthy and nutritional foods and I would expect nothing less than amazing vegetarian choices in San Francisco! What a treat to be able to eat at an awarding winning restaurant with excellent customer service and amazing views. I had a salad that highlighted the local seasonal fair and a green curry dish that still makes my mouth water and my friend had a black bean chili and a small tomato and zucchini pizza. What an amazing experience and I want to thank the entire lunch Team at Greens for sharing your LOVE and hospitality and making a difference in my life I am very grateful and thankful!

A thoroughly wonderful experience. The food was outstanding and the service impeccable. My husband had the spicy eggplant tofu and I had the pappardelle. We shared a dessert. All were terrific and the view amazing.

We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. Excellent, friendly service, and of course a great view of the bay at sunset. This restaurant positions itself as a high-end vegetarian restaurant but doesn't quite live up to that standard. The food was tasty and nicely prepared but just didn't quite get to the same standard as say Elizabeth's Gone Raw or even Chez Panisse. Good value for the service, ambiance, and location. Average value for the food.

Booked this as a "special" meal half way through our 10 week bimble around Texas /Cleveland /Chicago and then the NW->SF->Yosemite->Glacier NP->Calgary - >Seattle and it didn't disappoint. We arrived 20+ minutes before or booked time and were fortunate to get a window table. Sun bright into our eyes through the blinds until sunset at which time blinds are raised The? squash soup was so full of flavour. The bread delicious. The pea/feta starter lovely. The fresh spring roll fresh. The kalmar Dhaka (??) delightful Lovely service - timely, attentive Would use frequently if we lived locally

This is an old school vegetarian restaurant. A Mom-and-Pop for sure! Also the waiter said "good choice this has been on the menu for 30 years" when I ordered the Corn/sweet potato cakes with over easy eggs. Very well balanced dish with the rather dry cakes that got that creaminess from the runny eggs and the avocado and some crunch from the cabbage.. Yummy. The lentil soup was delish too. A little pricey but the location is also amazing with the view over the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. Bonus points for VERY eclectic wooden furniture too! :D

We (family of 4 - children aged 12 and 8) had dinner at Greens on the last night of our stay in San Francisco (I have been a vegetarian for many years but the rest of my family are meat eaters). Before we got to the restaurant we witnessed an amazing sunset over the Golden Gate Bridge and the view from our table was equally as impressive. The food was colourful, well presented, creative and full of flavour. The restaurant decor was beautiful and the waiting staff were very attentive without being annoying. Definitely worth a visit when in San Francisco - whether you are veggie or not.

I was at this restaurant a few times in the first year it was opened. At that time, the monks were the servers. It's still very good but the monks aren't serving anymore. The food is beautifully presented and simple.

What a fantastic experience!! The food is beyond delicious, creative, fresh and beautifully presented!! I am a Vegan so I was very excited about this restaurant, but my non Vegan , non Vegetarian husband loved it also. The view is phenomenal- a completely glass wall overlooks the Golden Gate Bridge! I highly recommend Greens!!

Excellent choice for lunch. A really varied menu with interesting new things to try. Lovely views and the service was very good.

One of the best (possibly THE best) meals we had in California. My non-vegetarian husband was skeptical, but the spring rolls, potato stacks, and wild mushroom Shepherd's Pie were outstanding. The Pinot Grape soda was so refreshing we never got around to ordering wine! Our server was delightful and gave us good recommendations for touring the botanical garden, and the view can't be beat. 11/10!

For a restaurant that does not serve meat, the meal selection was good. I would have rated higher if they'd had a gluten-free dessert without chocolate. I would have expected this offering at this restaurant.

The ambiance, service and food at this restaurant can’t be overstated. Wonderful pizza and pasta, with fragrant mushrooms in abundance. The views of the SF Bay and lights were magical plenty of parking as well. Just go.

Dinner at Greens over the holidays while in the SF area. Loved it’s vegan/vegetarian menu and watched the sunset gazing at the Golden Gate Bridge. We enjoyed the mushroom shepherds pie and stuffed poblano entrees. Lots of other menu items, difficult to choose. Good service and drinks, the place was packed, be sure to make reservations. Greens has been around more than 40 years, a leading healthy cuisine pioneer. Would definitely return on a future visit.

We were fortunate to find this restaurant on our first day in San Francisco and went back a second time with our daughter several days later. We follow a vegan diet and almost there entire menu is vegan or be made vegan. We started with cocktails and the carrot hummus which was delicious. The curry dish had the right amount of spice/heat. The views are great even if you cannot get a window seat. It is pricey but well worth it to get great vegetarian food.

We are visiting from the UK and were excited to see a vegetarian restaurant that looked good. We went on a busy Sunday. The brunch was very disappointing, overcooked vegetables and poor flavoring. The price was high and definitely not matching the food. Overall in a city with great food, this was the poorest experience of eating out for us.

My husband and I went to Greens following recommendations from two people. Both the food and the view were great. We enjoy vegan and vegetarian food and there was plenty to choose from. We shared a salad to start. It was fresh and the dressing was delicious. We then had a tofu korma and a wild mushrooms dish. Both were super tasty and well presented. Dessert was a chocolate dish with pieces of fresh orange on the side. It was dark and rich and plenty for 2. Even the coffee we finished with was above average. Would highly recommend.

This spot is not to be missed. We are vegetarians, but even if you are not....GO! I am passionate about the idea of showing Americans that they do NOT need meat for each and every meal. This gorgeous establishment makes it look easy. When you walk in you are greeted by stunning design. It's industrial-chic, with stunning natural elements. The view is ridiculously great. You watch the sunset behind the GG, boats bobbing in the marina in between. It's glorious. Our servers were knowledgable, lovely, and made us feel like we were regulars. And the food. Damn, it's just delicious. EVERYTHING. We grazed our way through a ton of items, and it was impossible to name a favorite. GO!

We have eaten at Greens numerous times. It is a bit overpriced but has a lovely view and generally nice ambience. Beware that there are few vegan options and brunch menu relies heavily on eggs and cheese. Our most recent visit for brunch was very disappointing. The food was OK however we waited over an hour to be served. The waiter briefly apologized for the slow service but said it was because they were busy. They are always busy. We had to request refills for our water and coffee. The prices are too expensive for the poor service that we experienced.

To celebrate Loretta’s 65th Birthday, we went to Greens Restaurant in San Francisco’s Fort Mason. We happened to make dinner reservations for a Saturday, which happened to be when Greens offers a 7-course Prix Fixe dinner. It was quite a delightful surprise.

We enjoy Greens because we can always get great food every time we go. It is vegetarian but it’s delicious vegetarian. They have good wine list and the deserts are yummy! Cheers🥂

Amazing food, so good and gluten free. A lovely place to celebrate a special occasion and indulge in a very fancy dessert.

A very nice venue, however the food was disappointingly cold and much below the reputedly high standard. Our orders of Indian Thali and Pizza looked unique; but an unsatisfactory presentation, content and flavor. We normally have water with our lunch; but even that appeared to be unfiltered tap water.

Wonderfully flavored and very creative dishes. Perfect for a special occasion or for the vegetarian in your life. 5 of 6 of us aren't vegetarian, but 6 of 6 of us loved everything we tried, and we ordered almost everything on the menu! The service was excellent - knowledgeable, friendly staff who met our every need without being intrusive. Great atmosphere, with wood sculptures, some unique tables, and a beautiful view of the marina and bay. We came here for my birthday, and I couldn't have been happier with our restaurant choice.

...was the response, when asking friends from out of state, where shall we go for lunch. Usually, content with good food and someplace where friends can catch up, I suggested an old favorite, Greens, a Vegetarian restaurant (I'm not), that has yet to disappoint since it's opening years ago. While our friends are, likewise, not Vegetarians, they marveled at the menu, the descriptions of each dish are point on and add to one's interest and anticipation with the meal. For a party of four, we were told by the helpful wait staff, that our order could feed at least six...a true case of one's eyes deceiving one's stomach. Nevertheless, our starters of asparagus, arugala salad, and pupusas, the main courses of Fettuccine, Thai Red Curry, Thali and Asparagus Pizza, and our desserts, the Shortbread, Chocolate Torte, and Streusel with Ice Cream pleased our guests and had them texting their kids and friends raving about having a truly "fresh and really different" San Francisco Meal...does D.C. have Veggie Restaurants?

Me and my Partner went to Greens Restaurant for our Five Year anniversary after hearing that it was a Vegetarian Requirement in the bay. The food was absolutely delicious but the seating and setting left much to be desired. We were seated extremely close to the waiting area at an inventive, polished tree stump which was initially very cool - until we tried to actually sit up to our seat We found that we could not put our legs underneath the table whatsoever and our knees would constantly bang against the wood. It forced us to eat away from the table and lean forward to talk which made it very difficult to have a romantic meal. This killed the ambiance and made for a somewhat frustrating experience. The room is not very elaborate or ornate and had a wooded rustic feel which can be fun occasionally but stole away from any fanciness in the restaurant. When dropping $100+ on a two person meal, you hope to be extremely comfortable. This was the opposite of that. That being said - we cannot say enough great stuff about our meals. I had the Cheese Raviolis which was basted in a delicious creamy sauce. My Partner had thai coconut curry which was also so very good. Our waiter was very kind and attentive. If you are a vegetarian, this place is probably a "must", but make sure you insist on comfortable seating. Without that, the meal will lose its value entirely.

I am not a vegetarian and was a little suspicious regarding vegetarian cuisine. Well start trying to understand what is really in the menu items lots of unknowns for me. But when you have it in your plate it looks good and indeed it is good. Although some are better than others. I cannot say that I will try it soon again. The restaurant dining room is elegant with wood everywhere and a super view over the Golden Gate Bridge. A visit is a must !

I had a delicious Portebello mushroom burger that was on the smaller side yet filling. Dessert was amazing milk chocolate mousse cake with creme fraiche and passionfruit sauce. in addition, the view of the bay was terrific! Highly recommend this vegetarian restaurant!

The Greens is in a beautiful bay front location (which we think would have beautiful views, but aren't sure due to the cloudy drizzly weather we experienced). As vegetarians we appreciated all the choices and the variety of dishes. The flavors were more complex and sophisticated than our usual fare and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The waitress took the time to give us tourist information and the decor was gorgeous.

We enjoyed Greens. On a rainy night it was filled with urban hipster types and a few tourists (like us). The venue itself at Mason Centre is warm despite being cavernous. Apparently the view is good but we didn’t have a table by the window - and it was dark. The service was exceptional. There was a good wine list too, with many no alcohol options. The food itself was good. Simple vegetarian options elevated. We shared the sweet potato fritters, then both had the moussaka. The latter had many veges, plus a nicely crusted béchamel. The bill for food and 2 drinks came to over US$115, once all the taxes are added. Overall, we enjoyed the experience.

I don't go to vegetarian restaurants, but when (non-vegetarian) friends and long-time San Francisco residents said it was their favorite restaurant in the city I couldn't say no. It was a revelation. The setting itself is worth the price of admission--right on the waterfront looking across at the Golden Gate bridge. I had Meyer Lemon Fettuccine with spring pesto, broccoli rabe, burrata, and wild mustard flowers but was equally entranced with the Asparagus Pizza with spring onions, green garlic, meyer lemon, fresh mozzarella, asiago and pepper flakes (as you can see, I brought a menu back with me). Also an impressive wine list and excellent desserts. Very large, lots of people, but the noise wasn't bad and the service was fine.

Before going to the Walt Disney Family Museum, we decided to have brunch at Greens Restaurant. We had hoped for a view of the Golden Gate Bridge, but the marine layer was too dense. We were seated by the burl wood tree, which we absolutely loved! We chose biscuits and scones, French toast and scrambled eggs with black bean chili: all thoroughly delicious!

I was skeptical about an all vegan restaurant the first time I visited but was totally wowwed by the delicious food, great menu and terrific service. The location is fantastic and the views are nothing short of spectacular!

Ordered a chicken salad as wanted something plain which was delicious. Fabulous setting in delightful town, worth detouring to visit with fabulous views of San Francisco. Staff very friendly and great service.

This is an outstanding vegetarian restaurant with a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Although the menu has somewhat changed since my last visit about ten years ago, it is still a wonderful place with beautiful atmosphere and consistently good food.

Best meal I have had in my visit to San Francisco plus great views from all the tables to the sea. Very good service from the waiters.

45 years running and still setting the standards for SF vegetarian restaurants. Yet another flawless visit, this last time for our 10th anniversary.

Most likely I've overlooked this restaurant because it's vegetarian. On a friends suggestion, we met here and I really enjoyed my dinner. Our table, though miniscule, was at the window overlooking the water. We shared a handful of starters with the gluten free accommodations they offer up on the menu. My favorite was the Muhammara. The Broccolini and Johnny Cakes were also delicious. I would eat here again.

We celebrated our anniversary dinner. My husband had brochettes and I had curry dish. Both were amazing. Our waiter Seth was always attentive and we were never rushed at any point. Food presentation was excellent . Despite reviews about the restaurant being tired, The view of GG bridge etc. was magnificent. We easily carried on a conversation. We will come again without a doubt.

Come here after going to the de young museum: made a reservation over a month in advance to get a seat and one by the window! Great food and parking fairly easy for SF.

This restaurant was recommends by locals and what a find. It is vegetarian and we are not but we loved it. Delicious fresh food. Fab wine. Great friendly service. What else could you ask for? Very much recommend.

Beautiful view, awesome food, good staff, who is very sensitive with allergies. Absolutely recommandable! Reservations necessary

This vegetarian restaurant is situated in an old warehouse at the seaport. I liked this location. As a first course I had a citrus and barley salad. It came among other ingredients with some delicious veggies like fennel and pickeld beet as well as some whipped goat cheese. It was really tasty. Very tasty was also the main course! I ordered wild mushroom papardelle on this. The portion was not large, but intense and rich in mushroom taste! It came with some crispy chili flakes on top, which went well together. They had a wide selection of local and international wines on their list, but I decided to go for a beer instead. The service was done in a friendly manner and the waiters were omnipresent, maybe a bit too omnipresent. In my opinion this veggie restaurant deserves for good reason to be recommended in the Guide Michelin!

Greens offers creative awesome vegetarian food in a beautiful setting overlooking the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. We had a hard time to choose from the dinner menu as everything sounded promising and tempting. Dishes come from all corners of the world, the cuisine mixes happily East and West - a starter with a peanut sauce can easily be followed by a main with cheese and truffle oil. We enjoyed every bite!

Fabulous restaurant great food. We went after a trip to Alcatraz and it was faultless Lovely menu fantastic location with views of Golden Gate Bridge And not as pricey as you’d expect from the environment and service Vegetarian food not normally my thing but flavours were great, sensible portion sizes. Very helpful server that was knowledgeable and really honest

The last time I sat and dined here, in the 90’s, Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead was also dining at restaurant. Hard to believe this vegetarian restaurant has survived for so long and is still so esteemed, but it’s true. The food is still California vegetarian and has even improved. I remember feeling hungry after finishing meal here 30 years ago. This time we both had entrees and appetizers, and there was no room for dessert. The vegetarian chili with grated cheese, the smoky barbecued tofu, the vegetable curry, and the salads were enough by themselves for elegance and uniqueness. Great view, of the SF Marina and the Golden Gate Bridge, easy parking, and a nice area to explore. There is a take out counter at the front of the restaurant that has some bakery items also to go. Pricey, but has a view and ambience .

We were looking forward to eating here. We love to experience excellently prepared vegetarian food. We ordered a bottle of rose with our meals. We ordered a shared appetizer, two main courses and a shared dessert. The grilled stone fruit appetizer was delicious. Tomato camaroni and red curry entrees were very good and the flourless chocolate cake delicious. Our only complaint was that the inside of restaurant was very warm, we did notice other people fanning themselves. The servers vented some of the windows open but it wasn’t enough. All in all we might return - the meal was affordable and delicious. We would dress more accordingly next time.

We came here on recommendation from a local and it didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed a lovely relaxed meal as the sun went down behind the Golden Gate Bridge. The food was very tasty, the server friendly and knowledgable and the in house bread was a particular treat.

Green's was recommended to us and we gave it a shot. The food was good but overpriced for what really amounted to very simple ingrediants. You are probably paying for the location which has stunning views of the bay. The staff varied from wonderful to awful with mains arriving whilst we were still eating our starter and merely being pushed onto our table despite there being no room. Great desserts however!!

We had my wife's birthday lunch here and we couldn't have been more pleased with our choice. We used to live in the area and had been here before, but it had been years since our last visit. The service was truly amazing from the host to the server and bus person. We had booked a table outside, but realized when we got there that it was cold and now view. Unfortunately, we had a dog with us. However, the host was gracious enough to recognize it was a special lunch and she gave us a table were are dog wouldn't be noticeable. Our server was terrific. She knew the menu well and was able to recommend options for gluten free that I needed. The bus person was also very attentive and helpful. The food, well it was delicious. Such a creative menu with lots of options, even if you are gluten free. I had the mushroom burger as a lettuce wrap and it was very tasty. My wife loved you eggplant dish, was well. The dessert was fantastic. Yes, will be back again on another trip to SF.

Greens is always a treat whether you are a vegetarian or not. Non vegetarians often don’t notice. The view and dining room with its high ceilings , good acoustics, warm woods and nicely spaced tables is welcoming. We were there fo Brunch which had a decidedly Mexican touch as compared to previous visits. Everything was good but coffee was weak. We go to Greens for the location - the food can be 4/5 but the room, easy to park or walk location and the view make it a favorite.

Based on two visits to Greens and sampling 3 entrees for dinner, I have the most unkind words for this highly rated restaurant. Food tasted horrible. Flavors were muddled and disappointing in all 3 dishes. Everything else was perfect. The setting, ambience, food ingredients and service are all excellent. Being a vegetarian, we have probably eaten at every Michelin starred restaurant on either coasts (that features vegetarian menu). Sorry to be so harsh, but Greens is simply pathetic.

Greens is on the water and we were able to get a window table for two. The vegetarian menu is not extensive, but appear to be enough choices. The food is fresh and presented well. Unfortunately, our main dish (we split one) was luke warm, not hot. The wine list is reasonable, beginning in the $$30s. We shared an appetizer and one main. With a $35 bottle of wine our bill (including tip) was just over $100.

Did not meet my expectations. Restaurant looks really old, interior design is a bit off. Food is good (not amazing) and REALLY expensive... We didn't like the dessert menu, it wasn't what we expected. Hostess wasn't very friendly. Restrooms are horrible.. for a restaurant with such high prices I think restrooms should be a lot nicer. Also, they do not have WIFI for customers.

Wow...this really was special. A really lovely restaurant and a great surprise...exceeded expectations and thank you to the concierge at the Fairmont for the recommendation. Lovely staff, delicious food. If we lived in the area I would be visiting once a week. Well worth a detour.

Definitely a highlight for service! We had such a tasty lunch with a gorgeous view! If it is a beautiful day you can see the boats and the Golden Gate Bridge .

Greens is located right on the San Francisco Bay with windows all along one side of the restaurant for a beautiful panoramic view of the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. On a clear day and the right timing of your meal you can catch the sun setting behind the Golden Gate. I'm a vegetarian and the menu is completely vegetarian and locally grown organic food. That said, all of the many carnivores I've brought here over the years also really appreciate the great food and realize how delicious and satisfying a meal can be without meat or fish. They start you off with free salted almonds and delicious bread. It's not an extensive menu but there is plenty of choice, generally including pastas, curries, brochettes, pizza, salads, soups and much more - check their web site. I've also hosted several parties there in their private side rooms. Service is friendly, attentive and down to earth with no pretensions. Could not recommend it more highly and have been coming back again and again for several decades now. Extra kudos to one of the managers, Les, for overseeing an efficient and ultra friendly and professional staff.

Cant beat the setting and was worth waiting for a table by the window - looking straight at the Golden Gate Bridge and action on the water. There was action outside than inside. Service was slow and our waitperson seemed busy with other tables and less than friendly. However the vegetarian menu is small but delicious. USD120 for 3 of us - 3 dishes, 2 desserts, 2 coffees, 3 non alcoholic drinks seemed expensive

Exceptional food and service and I’m not a vegetarian. Would recommend for the ambiance and view as well. Highly recommend

We first came to Greens 30 years ago on our honeymoon and loved the restaurant, its food and location. We returned to San Francisco for our anniversary and had three meals at Greens - all delicious. The waitress kindly gave us complimentary champagne when we told her we had come 30 years previously. We had soup to start each meal, each was different but delicious. We also had a delicious curry and gratin provencal. Cant wait to return, hopefully in less than 30 years!

Greens Restaurant is the place for you who love veggie food. Greens is a restaurant next to a marina filled with yachts and a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The energy as you enter flows as does the flow of the bay, balanced. The room is large, the lighting is natural and open. Blend all that with charming personnel and you are comfortable even before tasting the delicious food. The choices are varied and are simply wonderful flavor combinations. It's long history of being in this place along the water area speaks for its excellence.

It has been several years since we have had lunch at Greens. The lunch menu has a number of new to us dishes and some of the old favorites. We tried the mushroom rice soup and it was terrific. A new to us dish was the Kimchi Pancake - the pancake contained corn and scallions. It was served with a somewhat spicy and very tasty aioli. I wanted to order a second one but resisted. Next we tried the eggplant caponata which is served on garlic whipped ricotta cheese and with an excellent roll. Our final dish was Hodo Tofu Bruschettes served with israeli couscous, pomegranate, garbanzos, sweet potato and eggplant. The dessert menu read like a dream but we were way too full. Every dish was delicious. The chef does a great job of combining various spices, etc.

We had a lovely meal at Greens. The peanut salad was filling and had a nice zing to it. My husband enjoyed his french toast and the serving was quite large. We both enjoyed the spring rolls (though they aren't that different than what you might get elsewhere). We did not order the cheesecake, but one appeared in our to go box and the restaurant couldn't take it back. And let me tell you, that was the highlight of the meal. I've never understood graham cracker crusts until I had a bite of Greens' cheesecake. Don't skip dessert like we had planned to.

I confess I tend to only write reviews of places that I want you to avoid, because the places I like and love I’m rather jealous of. Today we hosted my daughters and their partners for the respective 50th and 30th birthdays of these fine ladies at Greens as we do every year. I can’t really tell you just how Wonderful this restaurant is this restaurant is, how marvelous the food is, and it’s exceptional service. Not to mention the view on the waterfront. There’s gobs of reasonably priced parking. An excellent bar, really spectacular desserts. I see that there are some bad reviews I’m not gonna read them because they’re full of baloney. If you come to San Francisco or live in San Francisco make a reservation and go there especially weekend brunch, what a wonderful moment it will be. For all you non-vegetarians please understand you’ll never miss meat when you have a meal here.

Ate here with my daughter and her friend. Was not expecting much because of the vegetarian menu but was pleasantly surprised - it was amazing.

We ended up here by default, we needed to eat and it was the only sit down restaurant without a long wait. We wouldn't normally have picked such a "hard core" veggie restaurant as our 17 year old son finds it a bit much. However, the food was brilliant, good value as well and said son was found an option (pizza!) from the kids menu. My only quibble is that the staff were a bit too much and made us feel a tad uncomfortable, like we should have been taking it all a bit more seriously. Could just have been us, but we didn't usually feel like this in the US where everyone is usually way more relaxed than the UK. Glad we went there though!

We had not been to Greens in many years, and I am happy to report that the quality is still outstanding. The interior is not all that special, but the views out the big windows of the Golden Gate Bridge are terrific. Very attentive service. Interesting inventive dishes. Nice evening with friends.

We were a party of 5 celebrating a special occasion for lunch at Greens (we had come with our friends who got married a few hours ago). I can't decide what was the better part of our afternoon there - the delicious food or the super amazing staff there. The restaurant staff were super kind, they set us up with an amazing table and even entertained our request to do a little custom celebration by adding their own flair to it. The food itself is mouthwateringly good - some great vegan options. The green curry in the menu was special and I loved their twist to Johnny Cakes with the tomatoes and avocado. The views from the restaurant are spectacular and there is easy (free I believe) parking available in the lot right outside. Overall, it was an all star experience and I'm glad we chose to come here for a special day.

We were able to experience the very first dinner service after the kitchen fire that closed Greens for months. It's as if nothing happened--they did not miss a beat and all the flavors and presentation were as one would expect. The outpouring of love and acquaintences renewed we saw from loyal patrons that night is a good testament to the things the Greens is doing and did do to introduce the wild notion of gourmet vegetarian all those years ago. Bravo.

Loved the food here. There were good options for vegans and also gluten free options including bread, spring rolls and chocolate cake. The portion sizes were good and also the view was lovely, we saw a beautiful sunset

My wife took me here for my birthday and it was great! As vegetarians, we don’t often get to eat at a strictly veggie restaurant, so this was pure delight. appetizer of asparagus with grilled polenta, followed by a spring role for my wife and a Sheppard’s pie for me that was pure heaven. Delicious seasoning. Dessert was an espresso Pot de Crane to die for ( skip the recommended Port with it - the only negative part of the meal). And by the way, we sat by the window with a view over the small harbor looking right at the Golden Gate Bridge! Couldn’t have been better.

3.5 Green’s Fort Mason, SF Very expensive vegetarian food Very bougie Nice view, beautiful carved wood tables Food is okay Pasta with Calabrian chiles was not spicy Coffee tasted weird; no soy milk, just almond or oat as creamers Good dessert Food service was okay

First of all, the service can be iffy depending on one's server. Jonathan at Greens to Go is wonderful. He is helpful, efficient, and knowledgable about the various items. For dinner, Teddy is amazing. Some other servers aren't as great and actually act like we should be pleased they are helping us. Second of all, the food here is very good -- depending on what you get. Sometimes, it can be bland or too salty, but, for the most part, it is quite good. The drinks - like the non-alcoholic Gewürztraminer-- are a particular favourite. The desserts are also delicious. Third of all, the location is fantastic. If you get there early, you can be seated by the window. Again, this depends on the hostess as the person there the other evening was not helpful at all.

Terrible service rude supervisor. Unclear instructions while booking, they changed our special day booking to "outdoor". That too, kept us right in the front where it was the most windy, while keeping inside tables EMPTY!!! Rude and unaccommodating supervisor, perhaps had not seen people like us before....

IG: eatgosee The idea of going to a vegetarian meets vegan restaurant will be divisive for some people: I could name friends and family who sneer at the concept. In there lies the challenge: to surpass the presumption that meatless is joyless and therefore inferior. Greens restaurant is a good place to start to make this learning curve. HIGHLIGHTS: - Location: soothing water views line one side of the restaurant making for its most striking feature. This certainly makes the wait for the food it a lot easier as you get to look out onto the water as boats go by. - Fettuccine with Mint Pesto, Rocket (Arugula), Pecorino and Pine Nuts: this is a pleasantly light dish with a gentle and not overwhelming mint flavour helping to brighten the pastor. The addition of the pecorino brings a little bit of cream in it as well as the pine nuts with its signature nutty warmth. The fresh rocket salad brings a bit of pepperiness as well as crunch to the dish complementing the crunch of the pinenuts. Needless to say this is a very enjoyable addition one that I would eat again and again. I am not someone who is pastor so for me to be drawn to the dish as well as enjoy it was pretty remarkable. -Wine list. The wine list is pretty good as you might expect from a Californian restaurant. Most of the wine is also available by the glass. The house retailing available is very drinkable and $11 a glass was one of the cheaper white wines I had seen on the menu during my time in California. LOWLIGHTS: Decor: The decor he feels a little bit dated. There is a lot of exposed light wood throughout and dark carpets which distracts from the awesome water views. My suggestion is to modernise the decor to highlight and celebrate the fantastic view outside. It is a little bit of a tale of two restaurants at the moment. Grilled cheese sandwich: while the grilled cheese sandwich itself is quite enjoyable; at the price the portion feels a little bit miserly. I would’ve been expecting a giant grilled cheese sandwich where is this looked like something that would easily be made at home. A grilled cheese sandwich is not an expensive thing to make so I think attachment generosity in the portion would go some way at least for visual appeal as well as make it more filling main course. It does come with a side salad that helps break the rich cheesy flavour. When I come back? Absolutely! There is a lot to offer on the menu here. People around me had the carrots houmous which was a generous starter portion and easily could be a main course. #vegetarian #vegan #wine #pasta #salad

Went to Green for a business meeting. Starters were beautiful, I chose the Brussel sprouts, delicious and my colleague the soup which he also enjoyed. My tagine was less than mediocre, but the other main course was enjoyed, we shared a bottle of reasonably priced wine, the sorbet also was mediocre and the chocolate torte VERY rich. Tea and coffee to finish the meal. It was expensive over $165 plus tip, honestly, more than it was worth. But, as I said above, maybe I just didn't choose wisely.

We are omnivores, however, when we moved to San Francisco in 2009, Greens was one of our first fine dining experiences in the city. We were not disappointed. The flavors, service, wine list and presentation were top notch and deserving of the accolades it had. However, we noticed it had changed and stopped going in 2015. We went for my birthday in early 2018 and while the flavors were still top notch, and the service commendable, the artistry of fine dining is gone. The highlight of the shared winter sampler was the hummous. Really quite flavorful past what you would get at your local falafel joint. The muhammara was thin and bland and the pitas unremarkable. The griddle cakes, while small, were well executed and plated nicely. Everything there was well executed, crispy outside, creamy inside with texture and excellent accent from the micro greens. However, my entree of a squash and sweet potato gratin with baby broccolini and polenta was plated without any artistry. Three plops and it was done. The single triangle of polenta seemed very lonely and slid around the plate without anything to anchor it to the plate. Our local bistros plate better. (You can also see the same exactly plating for an eggplant dish in another review. Very disappointed.) My partner's Thai curry, while tastier than our favorite Thai places, looked like home cooking or an Asian diner presentation. Rice on the side of the bowl, curry taking up the rest. The apple galette for dessert, again while the flavors were top notch, looked straight out of a Starbucks case and the ice cream unremarkable. (I didn't know it was butter pecan until I got home and checked the menu to try to figure out what flavor it was). There is so much potential here, but whatever happened to Greens to lose the experience of fine dining? If you can afford it, go with lowered expectations of the food experience because that's not what it used to be. For those who are not vegetarian, there are so many other better choices that are equal or better values. If you are vegetarian, delight in the food flavors, wine list, and ambience (bring a sweater in case it's cold and you sit by the drafty windows.) Just don't think this is one of the Bay Area's best when the food presentation is so pedestrian.

Experienced one of the finest vegetarian dishes at Greens. Many restaurants, including fine dining do not do justice to vegetarian food but Greens was different. The flavors were unique and a delight for the palette. As a visitor to San Francisco, dining with views of the Golden Gate Bridge was a memorable experience. Highly recommend Greens to all vegetarians who love gourmet food.

The selection of dishes was good and we enjoyed very much our food. Our server was very friendly and efficient. The views of the marina were a nice addition. Highly recommended, even though it might be a little pricey.

Greens is often a place people think about going for a nice dinner. But what a lot of tourists don’t know it’s a wonderful place to go for an afternoon lunch. They’re vegetarian menu will satisfy even the starches carnivore in the group. My partner and I recently went while doing some shopping down in Fort Mason, and had a lovely time. Sun was out with a great view of the water and had some incredible food. The soup special of the day was a cauliflower soup with toasted coconut. It was rich and just thick enough to feel hearty without feeling overwhelming gluey. The flavors melded well and made me wish I had a pot at home. We also had the broccoli grilled cheese sandwich and one of their signature butternut squash pizza’s; both of which offered great textures, great flavors and best of all, we left full.

Fresh, exquisite food. Size is on the smaller side, which is such a pleasure. I suggest to order for sharing.Try the lobster mushrooms, butternut squash with polenta, corn cakes. Gluten free friendly. There is no music, so this place is great for conversation. Nice view of the marina.

Yes, you’ll have an awesome view but no, you won’t eat anything spectacular. There are smaller restaurants with a more elaborate/creative menu. We had the Winter sampler, my husband had the Wild Mushroom with Spinach Filo (it was room temperature) and I had Green Curry, that was ok. After reading so many great reviews about the place we were disappointed.

The Buddhist founders, I am sure, are silently crying in their graves. The salad was pretty vanilla and did not really impress. Some parts had too much dressing, others were bland. The roasted kabocha squash was tiny and the daal horrendously over seasoned to the point where it was just not tasty. I have been to vegetarian places like Hiltl in Zurich which offer different dishes. Greens does not even come close. Definitely not going back.

Had a wonderful experience here. Food, ambiance and service were outstanding. Really appreciated the care and attention to detail in every part of the experience.

Greens for brunch has be a favorite with us for over 30 years but this trip it felt less than innovative. The age group tells that it has lost its gleam. The menu had t changed since our visit months & months ago. What happened to seasonal? The table behind us was obnoxiously loud and two tables away a loud large group too. Our waitress was clueless. They were out of biscuits at noon & we asked about the cornbread - she looked lost. We asked about something like the biscuits with preserves and she suggested we share a single (terribly overpriced) small chili corn muffin with preserves. She disappeared most of the meal, we flagged down someone to get water and never refilled coffee. We Always recommend Greens to visiting colleagues & friends because of the view & local cuisine but I felt that after closing for the renovation it had really sunk.

We eat here every year after visiting Art Market. This time the food wasn't quite as good as our earlier visits, but still not bad. The atmosphere is great - ask for a table by the windows. Our wines and a cocktail were good as was the service. We will go back.

After a day of museum visits, we got together for dinner with friends at Greens. Our waitress was energetic and eager. Three of the four of us ordered the Tempeh with vegetables for our main course: the sauce and the vegetables were wonderful! I’m not personally a fan of tempeh (or anything soy-based for that matter), but when I was able to ensure it was well-coated with the sauce, everything was delicious. As a table, mwe shared an appetizer of the sautéed cauliflower: this was the absolute hit of the meal: a true revelation of what people who REALLY know vegetables can do. I’d have been thrilled to order three or more plates of the cauliflower and call it a meal.

The food here was delicious - a creative take on vegetarian. The front desk staff were friendly and very helpful, however, the wait staff didn’t appear to be very interested (perhaps it was an off night) and we felt rushed through our meal.

I've been coming to Greens for years on my annual trek from the east coast to San Francisco, and it always delights my palate. This restaurant has endured and continues to attract locals who know and love elevated vegetarian food. The wonderful views of the harbor and Golden Gate Bridge from just about every table are a definite plus. I am a solo diner, which sometimes means less than attentive service from the wait staff. At Greens, the manager Sean (Shawn?) and the waiters who attended to my service were invariably attentive and engaging. Manager Sean introduced himself and set the tone for my wonderful dinner. The coconut risotto cakes starter (3 cakes) were moist and wonderfully seared on the outside, creating a hint of crustiness. I didn't taste any of the jalapeño, but the papaya salad served with it was delicious, perfectly picked. For my entree, I enjoyed camaroni (short tube pasta) with English peas, snap peas, and spinach in a very light gorgonzola (I don't like gorgonzola but I loved this sauce, just the right thickness to coat the pasta. When it arrived at the table, I gave it a little toss and steam rose up, carrying the wonderful fragrance of this delicious dish. Bread is not served standardly (good thing for me since I often fill up on bread), but there is a bread option on the menu. Worth a visit. Make a reservation. On a Sunday night in May, the place was packed.

Although the place has lost a bit of its luster it is still arguably the best vegetarian restaurant in America. The huge polished tree trunk in the middle of the dining room is a sign of a memorable experience. Views of the marina and the Golden Gate Bridge are breathtaking. Service is warm, polished and efficient. Cocktails are well made, the wine list is good, and the menu is filled with a variety of outstanding choices. Just reading the ingredients makes you hungry. Portions are generous. Prices about what you expect. No place for a carnivore, but for everyone else it raises the question, “Whoever thought a chickpea could taste so good?”

It was my first time there...and we were visiting with our daughter who was home from college. She recently became a vegetarian..so Greens was a perfect fit. The food was delicious..we tried the grilled cheese with apple slices, a delicious scramble with beans, and French toast with fresh berries. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Our only disappointment? We made reservations online for 2:30pm...and when we arrived on time, the told us that they had just closed the kitchen. The hostess walked away and can back with a man (the manager?) who said they would open the kitchen back up for us, and told us to order quickly. It was a little frustrating, but the only disappointment during our visit.

While I didn't like my meal all that much, appetizers and other guest enjoyed theirs. I had Brochette - it was really the sauce I didn't like. There was no where to pull the tofu and vegys off but in the sauce. So I was rubbing the sauce off. Tofu was decent. The split pea soup was excellent. My husband and a friend had Squash Curry - it was quite delicious. They liked it and I sampled! Another guest had pizza - they were happy with their meal. I also order spring rolls. Served like sushi, it was tasty.

I was taken to Greens as "a surprise and treat" by my best friend, a committed, longtime vegetarian...and I was WOWED by the total experience, food, ambience, service, everything! Now, despite my review title, I will not be giving up meat as a regular part of my diet. I do, however, heartily RECOMMEND this lovely restaurant with wonderfully tasty, completely satisfying, healthy food...accompanied by a unique location, right on the edge of the SF Bay (Ft. Mason), all served up by good servers, etc. Even the general manager stopped by our table before we left to ask if we had enjoyed the meal; nice touch of hospitality in such a busy place (it was a Saturday evening and packed to the walls). So, if you love vegetarian cuisine, GO! If you're a carnivore or omnivore and unsure...GO! I really, really think you'll enjoy it as much as I did. Be a bit ready to spend a good $50 per person for a good meal, but it IS San Francisco, "on the water," and a top-tier restaurant, so I do not consider the charges out of line. I would very happily go again!

I was lucky enough to have dinner at Greens with vegetarian friends who have eaten there before. My diet is a bit more relaxed - I eat only things I like. The service was relaxed yet attentive. The food was simply spectacular. We had three different dishes, each presented beautifully, freshly made, and scrumptious. The wine selection is just right (not too large, but with sufficient options). The view is outstanding although once the sun set a lot is left to the imagination. Prices are comparable to any good restaurant in CA, but not outrageous.

Outstanding, innovative vegetarian food, excellent service and lovely setting. Our large party enjoyed the special holiday event. Overall cost surprisingly high.

Might be one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. Excellent service and food - vegan friendly. Great views too!

Had a really lovely dinner here- nice service and great vegetarian food. The room was a little too warm for my liking but apart from that no other criticisms!

Food was great and tasty, stuff were very friendly, we didn’t get a window side table but were recommended to another table that had a panorama view of sunset. It was a wonderful experience dining here and we would probably visit again!

My grown up children came to visit us for Christmas and we decided to try Greens, which had been recommended to us by a Norwegian colleague. We took the bus there and had reserved table at 07.30 pm. The place was full, and exuded friendly chatty atmosphere. Service was efficient and we quickly got drinks. The small beer (bottled beers of ok selection) was 6 USD and small glass of ok Pinot noir 14 USD. One of us took a starter, but rest went directly for main course. Starter was a table spoon-sized potato course (14USD) that according to my son was excellent. For the main courses we tried the squash gratin (27 USD), curry rice dish (25 USD) and single brochette dinner (19 USD). The potato cake with the squash was covered with thin layer of melted cheese, everything accompanied with kale. Everybody was happy with their food, which was served quickly, elegantly placed on plates, and was characterized by complex tastes. My daughter is gluten intolerant, but waiter had a total control of which dishes were gluten-free and she enjoyed food and the flourless chocolate torte for desert. All in all, a waterfront restaurant with lots of atmosphere, informal style (coats on seats), elegant classy service and good food. By American standards may be a little pricey, but would definitely go again. But again, not a Vegetarian place to recommend if you are on a tight budget.

Finally!!! A great veggie restaurant with super views. Food was tasty and reasonable value. Great melon/ avo/ salad with dressing and spring rolls. Food was really on point!! What wasn’t... the staff.... nowhere yet on our month long travels could I have had less attention.. the complimentary water just never was filled . We asked 3 times! WiFi was a special request too which again we had to ask for. Considered not giving any tip as we had no service except from chef!!! Súper place that needs a little update ! But tasty food won through in the end hence the generous 5 stars!!!

Have been coming here almost since it’s opening. While the view and the interior have stayed the same, the food has evolved. I loved it then and still love it. Had breakfast with a very Mexican influence. It’s nice to see a restaurant change but maintain its quality. Only shortcoming was the coffee was a little anemic.

We were a large group but service was outstanding. The taste and quality of the food were phenomenal.

This restaurant was founded by the zen club of Sf. You can tell the zen influence in both the food and the decor. The dishes are very tasty and are low in fat. Desert was great too (th strawberry galette). Good wine list too. All vegetarian so give this one a try.

We were here several years ago but that was a vastly better experience. It seems the quality of the food has suffered, and unfortunately the service too. Although we were promptly seated and the hostess was warm and helpful, our waiter was impatient, not attentive enough, and just downright rude. I observed other servers in other sections and the same did not apply to them; they were warm and friendly and took their time. Our waiter interrupted and dismissed me before I could finish alerting him to my allergens. He chose to ignore the other older woman at our table and barely and impatiently listened to the younger person. We were well behaved and polite, greeted him warmly and had many questions but he decided to treat us with disrespect. I would describe him in this review but I'm too much of a lady and he knows who he is. His treatment made our dining experience very uncomfortable. Some of the menu items we chose were okay and some were disappointing and lacking in the quality once consistently present at this iconic restaurant. The Grilled Cabbage with chickpeas was difficult to deconstruct in order to eat. The chickpeas were hard to gather into a bite; they could have been pureed for better presentation and ease of consumption; however, the person who ordered it for the most part enjoyed the flavors. The Yuba Noodle Tom Kha one of us ordered was apparently nothing special in terms of flavor and the entree portion was very small. My entree salad was so small that I left the restaurant still hungry. In fact we all left hungry. The lettuce was supposed to be frisee but was radicchio and I wasn't notified of the substitution. The beets were sadly tasteless. The dressing was okay but there were exactly 6 macadamia nuts in the entire salad. I ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail that was supposed to contain blood orange, but it was just regular orange. And I wasn't notified or asked about the substitution. The most disappointing and sad thing about that drink was it cost $17 and contained in my estimation 4 ounces of liquid. The taste was nothing special. The roasted pecans and sunchoke starters were delicious, the only items we all agreed were worthy of our visit. We would consider returning to try again if we had had a better experience and this could have been achieved with a warm and patient waitperson who was eager to listen and answer our questions, treat us with respect, and be more understanding of food allergens.

I have been coming here for twenty years. My last 3 star review pre pandemic stated that there are always flies when I dine indoors here. This time I came for the first time since the pandemic and decided to eat at the outdoors section. Indoors you have a wonderful view of the harbor which you are not getting if sitting at the outdoors section. What you might also be getting is a thirty minute visit from their gigantic refrigerated truck that parks right next to where you are sitting and is extremely loud. I complained to the staff and they could not make it leave or turn it off. Our waitress appeared without a mask. This is the first restaurant that I have been to where half of the staff are not wearing a mask (including the indoor staff serving at the counter). I don't know about you but even if I am vaccinated and she is vaccinated I feel a lot better, given the Covid variants which are now infecting even vaccinated people, if my food server wears a mask. I explained this to her and they had the masked hostess serve us. We had a side of roasted potatoes which was nice and a cup of chile, also nice. My main was a lentil mushroom burger which arrived burned and with the consistency of baby food. I could not eat it and it was removed from the bill. Speaking of the bill it was $100 for three people. Therefore I am giving 2 stars as the experience overall was not worth the cost. Furthermore, the gluten free brownie I got from the counter was very mediocre. They used to have nice gluten free cookies but had none this time.

I knew this restaurant was worth a visit because a good friend (a San Francisco resident) recommended it highly. We were not disappointed. I had the Pinnacles Scramble which was delicious.

I had not been to greens in probably 20 years. I was so pleased to try all the delicious dishes they offer, I think it is better than I remember. Service was outstanding and food to die for. We ordered Kale Caesar salad, that was great and fresh spring rolls to start. Green curry, sweet potatoes gratin, pappardelle pasta with porcini mushrooms and rolls with mushrooms. The green curry was delicious as well as all the others. The desserts we ordered were the chocolate mousse and the butterscotch pudding! So good! My husband thought that since there was no meat he was going to be hungry after, but he was not hungry and it feels great to have a delicious healthy meal. They were wonderful with allergies. Could not say enough good things about the place. The only thing I didn't love was the pomegranate margarita that had a smoky taste, more mezcal taste than tequila, but other than that I loved everything!!

We were there the first night after our arrival in San Francisco. But the food was still excellent and the ingredients came from local farms. Very good alternative in steak country :-)

Fabulous food & exceptional service! My partner is a vegetarian & I’m a Celiac and require Gluten & Dairy Free options. What a pleasure to deal with folks who make you feel special & not a chore. Ron, our server, was fantastic! My first bite of Spring Roll with their gluten free soy sauce, was a pleasure to my palate. The warm cauliflower salad was fantastic. For my entree, I had the Butternut Squash & Sweet Potato Gratin. Wonderful! He had the Green Curry vegetables. Complimenting the food with sparkling wine was perfect. For desert we had sorbet. They serve a plate of 3 flavors, mango, berry & chocolate. It was incredible!

Very highly rated vegetarian only restaurant but we did not care for their food.. service was fair. All in all it was a disappointment.

We had the best evening in San Francisco there. Very very good vegetarian food, amazing service, great view. DON'T miss it!!

Despite the fabulous waterfront views, the interior of this old establishment feels tired and a bit worn. But the totally vegetarian menu offers some incredibly delicious options, and service on the night we were there was excellent. And the place was totally full, with everyone seeming to be enjoying themselves.

Today four of us ate at Greens Restaurant at Fort Mason. The service was excellent without being hovering and the good exceptional. I had a vegetarian curry with a reddish larger grained rice in a coconut sauce. Others had a Portobello burger on homemade roll, someone else had pizza with small diced Hubbard squash and an interesting sauce with a thin crust. the views of San Francisco Bay were fabulous complete with entertainment from kayakers and a rolling over Harbor seal. Everything is organic and fresh from Green Gulch Farm in Marin. You will not be disappointed and they also have delicious wines, beers and cocktails.

Ver good vegetarian options (although most have mushrooms) and very friendly service. However, with the difficulty of getting a reservation I was expecting a fabulous find. The range of vegetarian options is good as it is a vegetarian restaurant, yet the plating and the quality of the dishes aren't on par with fine restaurants in the city. We were seated in the second room away from the window which definitely lowered the ambiance substantially-- really not much ambiance at all. Ask for a table by the window (although we did and apparently none were available) and in the front/main room. On the plus side the parking is plentiful and the staff quite friendly.

Our family of 5 visited SF from Montreal and decided to try Greens as we have used their cookbooks for many years. Service was excellent, our waiter Seth was very helpful and laughed at our bad jokes. His recommendations were the griddle cakes and the kale Caesar salad which we all loved. All the main courses were delicious. Big portions, service was fast and dishes were flavour packed! The locations is beautiful, we went for dinner but there are huge windows looking out towards the marina so lunch might be more scenic. Highly recommend.

I have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years but they now have a new chef. The menu choices are interesting and varied. The salads are tasty and our main course were very yummy. We chose the pasta dish and the Indian choice, to share. Both were excellent. A great choice of wines. A very pleasant way to have lunch. Highly recommended.

We had a great time at Greens. It was a farewell meal for my brother who is moving so we met up with the whole family. We have a lot fo vegetarians so this seemed like the perfect place. We ordered a lot of things and shared and everything was delicious and so flavorful. It's so awesome when a veggie restaurant makes their food satisfying and flavorful and Greens did not disappoint. We had (and recommend) the fresh spring rolls, hummous and pita, grilled cheese, broccoli and feta pizza, pappardelle, and the mesquite grilled brochettes. The desserts were amazing as well! The butterscotch pot de creme and the flourless chocolate torte were both incredible. The service was above and beyond. Our waitress was so sweet! She knew we were celebrating our brother and she took extra good care of us. Thank you for a great final meal in America for our brother!

We dined here as it was an exclusively Vegetarian restaurant and we’d struggled finding decent vegetarian options in the area. The service was second to none, our server was great and nothing too much trouble. The views across the bay of the Golden Gate Bridge were a great back drop to the meal. The food was tasty and we would definitely recommend Greens!

Writing that Greens is an outstanding restaurant is indeed an understatement. Having visited Greens a while back when we last visited we remembered a wonderful dining experience. When we returned this time we were not disappointed. An appetizer : Indian Thali came with basmati, red rice and chick pea salad with cashews; warm coral lentil dal; pickled beets; roasted cauliflower with lemon oil, pepper flakes and mint; apple-winter fruit chutney; grilled cumin papadams and was big enough to share. My Wild Mushroom Shepherd's Pie had smoked chedder mashed potatoes, porcini sauce, roasted carrots, red wine braised cipollini onions and English peas all served with broccoli di cicco and pepper flakes. While the portion was huge I still ate until my pate was clean not wanting to leave a single bite behind. Our window table, over the water, gave a romantic touch to this excellent treat. Wait service was excellent and knowledgeable as well. From now on no trip to San Francisco will be without reservations at Greens!

This is an institution in SF. Situated on the water, it has priceless views of the Golden Gate. The interior is beautiful and has been well maintained over the years. The food was good and the service attentive. I hadn't been there in many years but will definitely be back.

We were so happy to get a last minute reservation here. We sat outside (I think the view is better from the other side) but the area was well lit and heated. The food was really excellent - highlights were the carrot hummus and the grill d cabbage shawarma. Should have passed on dessert.

Would not normally be a place we would seek out based on the cuisine but were taken there by friends and enjoyed the service and food immensely. Have not tried much on the menu but the Ravioli was incredible and the views of the Golden Gate Bridge were breathtaking!!

This place never disappoints. The food is always amazing. The service is professional and knowledgeable. The view is lovely. It's busy, but quiet enough for conversation.

Excellent vegan and vegetarian food, high quality food, drinks and desserts, no disappointments here, well worth the trip, plus beautiful views

I was told this restaurant has earned Michelin-star status for its vegetarian food. Nice ambience with view of the Bay and Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. Good vegetarian dishes and wines. Attentive service. Not sure of the prices since it's a business dinner.

At its core, travel should be inspirational. When you visit someplace new, there should be something more than a T-shirt or an album of selfies for you to share with your friends after your return. Wouldn't your friends be heartened to experience similar dishes that you experienced more so than watching a slideshow of someplace on a three inch square screen? So, when you go to Greens, go with this mindset---the experience should not end once you pay your bill. Many of the dishes you experience at Greens can be recreated with their cookbook. Because Greens operates seasonally, the recipes you try will rely on current ingredients. Like most things that look simple, good vegetarian food relies on good training: chopping elements in a uniform way, cooking vegetables to the right temperature, seasoning as to bring out what's there. That's what you are paying Greens to do for you. We had dinner at Greens at a challenging time, the cusp when summer is turning into fall. That means the glam summer ingredients like peaches and asparagus have to give way to the Miss Congeniality foods like nectarines and broccolini because it's too early for apples, squashes and leeks. That said, Greens really worked well with its constraints. The pizza was very tasty with a cornmeal crust that balanced well with the vegetables and asiago cheese. The pasta was memorable for its mushrooms and was presented beautifully in a black stoneware bowl. The nectarine and strawberry crisp was not too sweet and came with a vegan coconut ice cream. It would have been nice to have the option for a milk-based ice cream as the crisp seems to need something slightly creamier for mouth-feel. A dry Riesling from Monterey, Maiden Stoen, was a nice bridge throughout the meal. I think most people would pay money just to watch the sunset from this vantage point but things are always better when your stomach isn't growling. Come to Greens, your friends will thank you for it later.

Most of the food was quite good. The service was discombobulated from the beginning. Waited way too long to get our first drink order taken, then after that it was a carousel of different wait staff.

Green's is a long favorite for vegetarians, with good vegan options. It faces the San Francisco Bay so you can get nice views here as well. Be sure to make a reservation. Know that parking can be touch in the Fort Mason Center, especially if there is an event there. The menu offers seasonal and global variety. Most recently we had tamarind sodas, soups, cornbread, spring rolls, potato griddle cakes, pizza, udon and parfait. The downside of eating in San Francisco is the high cost, made worse by mandates that are extras beyond taxes.

We dined here on Easter Sunday and enjoyed a gorgeous sunset view, from our table, and an equally amazing meal. Our waitress was friendly and knew the menu inside and out. We are vegan and they had so many options for us on the menu, which was appreciated. The dishes were fresh and unique. The green curry meal is phenomenal!! We didn’t have room for dessert; however, they all looked delicious. A reservation is recommended, as this is a popular restaurant.

We have been coming to Greens for years when we visit San Francisco and we are never disappointed. The view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the marina are spectacular (even if you are not able to snag a window table), and the food is imaginative, fresh and always delicious. We try to go for brunch as their dishes are creative and filling. Service is excellent and we highly recommend the restaurant.

Great spot to eat fresh food (we loved the eggplant sandwich!). Very welcoming staff. Wonderful view. We'll definitely come back next time we will be in San Francisco.

Excellent good, almost everything can be veganized upon request. Sensitive service concerning allergies. Would repeat visit anytime. Breathtaking view on Golden Gate Bridge and harbour.....

Came here with friends and had a wonderful lunch, with great service, imaginative and fresh food and a beautiful location. It's a treasure and a treat to go to and we'll be back (again). By the way, if you can go during the week it's a completely different experience: leisurely, not crowded and the staff is extra attentive!

The food was delicious and high quality, the staff were super friendly and the atmosphere was great! would recommend 10/10! will definitely come back on my next trip to San Francisco!

I went to a group dinner at Green's for faculty at the Dr. Weil Integrative Mental Health Conference in San Francisco. The first course was family style and included 1) Crispy Sunchoke Salad with baby fennel, kumquats, buffalo mozzarella, and creamy sunflower seed dressing, and 2) Fresh Spring Roll with tofu, carrots, daikon, cucumbers, cabbage, jalapenos, rice noodles, Thai basil and mint, and served with coconut peanut sauce and grilled beech mushroom. The main course included 1) Wild mushroom tartlet with leeks, asiago and thyme, served with roasted fingerling potatoes, carrots, cherry tomatoes, and cippollini onions, and 2) Butternut Squash Curry with tofu, carrots and cauliflower, served with Masa Organics brown rice and papaya salad. Dessert was a Chocolate Torte with Cocoa Nibs & salted caramel. I had some of each of the above dishes and they were all delicious. I'm not a strict vegetarian, but would recommend this restaurant for anyone who enjoys fine food. Green's works with a couple sister companies locally sourcing the food: Tassajara Zen Mountain Center, and Green Gulch Farms. Greens is on the Bay and their are very pretty views from the restaurant, which is located in Fort Mason. Also, due to some recent ankle tendon surgery, I was on a knee scooter, and they were very accommodating to be sure I was comfortably seated.

Setting here is perfect as the sun goes down over the bridge in the distance, interior decor is pleasing, service is really good. The food is the star however! First visit we started with cocktails as we waited for our table to become free - we deliberately arrived a little early. Cauliflower salad was perfect, pasta great, flourless chocolate torte a treat. On the second visit we skipped the aperitif and had similarly great food and a lovely bottle of wine. A vegetarian restaurant that any meat eater can be pleased with!

I have been there 4 times. The first two times were great, the last two times the service was slow and inattentive. The waiter pretended not to see us when we kept trying to flag him down. After the salads, we waited for another 55 minutes for the main courses. The server was not exactly rude, but we felt unwelcome there. For a restaurant in this price range,($175 lunch for 2), I would expect much better service. The fact that service was lacking on my last two visits suggests that they weren't just having a bad day.

Eight friends were meeting for the first time in eons. Greens was suggested because of ease of reaching and available parking (San Francisco is a challenge) plus reachable by public transportation. The Staff greeted us warmly, ensured window seating and offered us a 'bit of bubbly" for our occasion (on the house!) We were pleased with the variety of choices for a vegetarian restaurant. I will have my tasty winter vegetable ragout again. We enjoyed first courses (shared) each our own main course, wine and shared desserts. We all agreed to return.

I had been looking forward to going to Greens since I’d found that there was a really good vegetarian restaurant in San Francisco. We had been out on a mini tour and arranged to be dropped off at Greens for ( what I thought would be) a lovely meal but unfortunately when we arrived the normal place was being renovated - I was so disappointed as there was nothing on their website to say it wasn’t operating as normal. There was a sign on the door saying they were serving food two piers along. We walked there and went through a very interesting exhibition before reaching their temporary premises. There was a very limited menu (nothing like the choice of hot meals on their ususal menu) and my husband and I both ordered the grilled tofu and avocado sandwich. For the first time ever I could only eat a couple of mouthfuls of a meal. I’m not sure if it was the sauce or what it was but it was horrible - and not really grilled. My husband managed half of his but only because he hates to waste things. The service was helpful and friendly when we ordered, so that was one positive. Such a shame and the closure really needs to be put on the website and even on here.

Pretty location and decor, good view, nice-looking people, good service, but slow, and the food was meh. I am a great cook, and my kids love good food. They have been served many non-meat-focused meals in their lives and never wondered about it. Greens food was very expensive with complex ingredients, but not worth the price $$$. I am sad, because it was a go to place with exciting food many years ago. Now, it feels like eating a the vegetarian coop at college, not exciting, seen it all before, nothing punchy. they seated us right away - but what are your priorities when eating?

We visited for brunch and the food was just delicious and presented beautifully. Service was friendly, extremely attentive and impeccable. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and can only but whole-heartedly recommend the place.

The service was excellent, the food delicious and the view spectacular. This is a nice place to take family and out of town friends for a San Francisco experience. There’s a nice walk around the waterfront for an after dinner stroll. The menu is diverse with a great variety of ethnic and American dishes, all flavored interestingly! Overall a great place for a memorable dinner.

Classy vegetarian restaurant with lovely views over the marina. I understand that this is San Francisco’s oldest vegetarian restaurant. We were very impressed. Food and drink were excellent as was the service. The place as also very busy mid week which is always a good sign. We did precook otherwise don’t think we’d have got in. Not a cheap place, but then you get what you pay for. Would definitely go again.

Overlooking the marina and with views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Greens is a great spot for brunch with an all vegetarian menu. I had griddle cakes with avocado and eggs which was great fuel for an afternoon of sightseeing. Service was quick, friendly and efficient.

My partner and I visited this place during our trip to San Fran, and as we are both vegetarians we were keen to try their dishes. The menu wasn’t particularly imaginative but I had hoped the food quality would make up for that. We had the griddle cakes to start, which were tasty. We then had the corn grits and the curry as a main. These were both okay, but I would have expected a lot more from a restaurant that specialises in vegetarian food and for the prices we were paying. Service was good, drinks were nice, and the bread and nut appetisers were tasty, but unfortunately the main event was underwhelming and left me feeling disappointed.

Every time we come to San Francisco we make reservations for Greens. The location, service, atmosphere, and food all come together to make a special dining experience. Never a disappointment. This time our server knew that we were not especially happy with an appetizer we ordered so she went back and was able to cobble together one with the heirloom tomatoes we wanted. That level of perception is greatly appreciated. She knew how to make guests happy. This time on our receipt that Greens is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Well done Greens! We are looking forward to many more wonderful experiences.

A rating comes from service, food & value, right? Sometimes location, atmosphere or ambience plays a part. At Greens, the service was below average, nobody had anything to say about the food, & we spent $230 (4 of us, only 2 glasses of wine). So there you are. The space is nothing special, took forever just to get water, skip it.
Not Quite Verdant...
Two years ago, on our last visit to this wonderful City, we felt we were experimenting slightly when we opted to dine here - as happened, we were absolutely delighted with our experience, and said so. This time around, we felt we were surely making a "safer" choice in paying a repeat (Sunday night) visit to "Greens", but, sadly, we were very disappointed. While we had advance-booked quite some time back, we gathered that the Restaurant had re-opened just shortly before the night we had selected - apparently considerable renovation work had proved necessary, due to some unfortunate, unforeseen circumstances. Perhaps, in fairness, by the time we came to dine, "Greens" had not yet recovered its previous impressive rhythm? There were some good aspects of our experience : we arrived slightly early, were well-received, and brought to a fairly good Table. We were fortunate too in the (main) Server allocated to us : Ron, a pleasant, affable man of mature years, was extremely helpful in advising us on the Food Menu, and our various disappointments were certainly not due to any lack of attention on his part. From what is quite a varied and well-presented Menu (5 "Starters" & 5 "Mains"), we picked "Roasted Brussels Sprouts" (fairly good) and a "Green Gulch Lettuce, Little Gems and Endive" salad (also pretty good) to be begin with - both dishes took a while to arrive. For our "Main", we had decided to share a "Roasted Squash & Pesto Pizza" : there was a very, very long delay after our "Starters" - so much so that we asked twice about it, each time being assured "it's coming". It did, eventually, and it was OK, without meriting the description "Very Good", never mind "Excellent". We had no difficulty disposing of a Bottle of a reasonable "Alysian Sauvignon Blanc" as the frustrating delay from the Kitchen became more and more elongated - indeed, I ordered an extra Glass of the same Wine, while M (my"Better Half") satisfied herself with a Glass of "California Old Vine" Pinot Noir. NO, we were certainly not happy with our overall experience : the Food was average, the delays in delivering it were absolutely infuriating. Our Check/Bill came to $ 139-74, and being of the view that our Server, Ron, was not to blame for apparent deficiencis in the Kitchen, we added a reasonable Tip/Gratuity to this. In our eyes, all is not currently flourishing at "Greens" following their re-opening : time will tell whether or not they can recover and grow again!
