I was at a conference at the hotel up the hill and we had an hour break and we didn't feel like eating at the hotel. We took the shuttle to the shops and wanted someplace quick. We were seated quickly, told the waiter that we were on a time limit and the food came out speedy. It was a good pizza and good service. The speed of the meal gave it the bump from 3 to 4 stars.

Food was great. It took more than 20 minutes to park on the two different occasions that we went to Grimaldi, La Cantera. Ultimately, not worth it.

Love the pizza! Its always fresh and hot and delicious. Im never afraid to try any specialty pizzas here because everything has been so good consistently. They even used to give you a free pizza on your bday! The only thing I dont like about this place is its in LaCantera mall, which can REALLY be a hassle, but if you're there already you HAVE to eat here.

This is one of my favorite spots for pizza in all of San Antonio. The restaurant is not very big and fills up quickly so plan accordingly as they do not take reservations. The menu is small but its a pizza shop so what do you want. They have a few other options and salads but you need to get the pizza. They use coal fired ovens to create an authentic NY style thin crust that could be from a shop on 5th avenue. Warning: if you plan to go there mid-day, call first to make sure the ovens are not being cleaned. They do this every afternoon from about 3pm - 4:30 and may increase your wait time for your pizza.

The pizza's and service were amazing. Thin crusted pizza was served steaming hot with great fresh flavor.

My family visited this location on a Monday evening. My son wanted pizza and we thought this would be a good choice. The menu is limited. If you don't want pizza, I would recommend a different location. We wanted pizza so this was not a problem. We ordered the "Don" pizza. It was just okay; nothing really special. The pizza was slightly burnt. The beer selection is terrible. They only have the typical mass produced beers. No thank you. They did not have any local brews on the menu or on tap. Who doesn't want a good beer with pizza? It is also very loud, which made it difficult to have a conversation. The worst part of the restaurant? The service was slow and not friendly. I will go somewhere else next time for pizza. I will go to a pizza place that puts thought into it's beer menu, offers top notch pizza, and provides prompt and friendly service. I don't recommend Grimaldi's.

The pizza was nothing special except for the price. You start off with a plain old cheese pizza at $19- then from then on you keep jacking the price for every topping you choose. You can end up with a $40- dollar pizza if you are not careful. The wait is long, not only for the pizza but also for a drink.

Well, nothing extraordinary. Very regular drinks. Hunger's like a pizzeria neworkina. The friendly waitress without exaggerating.

Pizza is so good. We got the white pizza because my daughter hates the red sauce. It was so good and she approved.

This pizza is so yummy! Now everyone has their favorite pizza so not everyone will agree...but...this restaurant is always busy and that's a good indication that it is a reliable and tasty pizzeria! The red sangria is a favorite (they offer white too). They have a variety of pizzas with gourmet toppings. The crust is thin and tasty. We always start with a Caesar salad (heads up a small feeds 4 of us), but there are several salads to choose from too. We have never been disappointed and love that the area offers shopping if there is a wait. Give it a try!

We picked up pizzas to eat at the hotel and by the time we got them home, 10 minutes later, the thin crust pizzas were cold. They advertise wood fired but does that mean burned? I think they may have been sitting there awhile and not being kept somewhat warm. I was not impressed! I would like to try it again but in house.

We would definitely return here. The pizza was flavorful; all the toppings were superior and top quality. It is thin and wonderfully brick oven baked. Really good pizza!!!. We sat at the bar, and had great service from Kori.

I went for lunch with a friend and ordered a large pizza (18 inches) with mushrooms and sausage. The pizza comes in different sizes and there are other Italian specialties on their menu. The pizza was very tasty! I like my pizza crust thin, slightly charred on the bottom and some bubbles showing in the crust. It met all of my criteria. The sauce was excellent with a nice amount of mozzarella, but overloaded with cheese. The restaurant space was nice with red checkered tablecloths (reminded me of eating at a New Jersey pizzeria). Service was good. My friend and I enjoyed this restaurant and will return.

Pizza was excellent, service was great. But on a busy Tuesday night the kitchen could not keep up with the demand. We sat near the kitchen and the staff was busting their butts but the oven couldn't handle the volume. Because of this it took a long time to get our pizza. Otherwise this would be a 5 rating.

We went to Grimaldi's on a Sunday afternoon during the holiday season. We have been here before and was aware they restoke their coal ovens in the afternoon. We arrived around 4:30 pm and were quickly seated. We did this to get $15 off our bottle of wine and to beat the crowd. The waiter was quickly at our table explaining that the ovens were down due to restoking which we already knew. We ordered a bottle of wine but when he came back they did not have that bottle nor did they have the next bottle we selected. He offered some suggestions and brought us a small glass of a wine we had expressed interest. It was good and we were served our bottle of wine. He took our order again warning us the pizza would be delayed. We ordered our usual Mediterranean salad and a 16" white pizza with sausage, dried tomatoes, mushrooms and extra garlic. The salad came quickly as we expected and was excellent as always so fresh. The waiter replaced our plates since we had shared the salad without asking. The pizza took another 30+ minutes to appear but we were expecting that. It was as good as always with nice crust and delicious toppings. Since we were not able to finish our pizza as always, the waiter came back and offered to package up the remaining pieces. He came by several times to ask if we wanted anything as we finished our wine. We asked finally for the check which he promptly brought. We paid and left with our left over pizza nicely wrapped in aluminum foil. We have been here before and will be back as it is not far from our home.

Very nice little pizza shop, small bar at the front, decent amount of tables. All meals are rather large, almost a little to big. I had a nice white pizza, only got 3 slices down, reheated nicely. Slightly on the pricey side but its a long way away from pizza hut. Service was very good.

I really liked this place. Good location, good service, great food. I would good more often but they only have Pepsi products. I cannot stand Pepsi, so I will only go back when I want good food and a glass of water.

This was my first time at a Grimaldi's, though my wife has been before. A great experience in my opinion. The restaurant itself is not unlike something you'd find in Grand Central Station but the smell was more like driving into Houston. It smelled of sulfur and dirty feet. Fortunately that did not stop us from eating there. Service was quick and attentive throughout. We ordered a small spinach salad to share and a 16" Garden pizza. The salad was phenomenal! The pizza was perfect. We enjoyed it immensely though we could have ordered a 12" as the 16" gave us a lot of left overs. Delicious food and pleasant staff. Fix the smell and this would easily be a five star.

Had lunch with several friends and we all shared two large pizzas, several appetizers, a few beers, and some wine. Excellent overall dining experience. Pizza crust was fantastic and toppings were all fresh. Service was excellent and courteous. Highly recommend for those in search of excellent thin crust pizza.

My daughter and I popped over for a quick bite after shopping and were pleased to realize it was happy hour. The server made great recommendations on food and drink. Both were delivered quickly and were very tasty. Looking at the regular menu I would probably only come during discount hours as it seems a bit pricey. The pizza is certainly good re heated later if you end up with to many leftovers as we did !

Great coal fired ovens produce authentic pizza from the NY home. Noisy NY atmosphere. Pizza, calzone, salads, wine and beer available

Ate at the Quarry location. My new favorite pizza! We shared the Mediterranean salad and had leftovers. Great flavor! Also opted for the tomato sauce with pepperoni, kalamata olives and roasted tomatoes. Can 't wait to try others!!!

Went to Grimaldi’s with son after shopping. We were seated and told our waiter would come. After sitting for 5 minutes the man who seated us came to say he wasn’t our waiter but would “help us out” and take our drink orders. He eventually even took our order. We never met our real waiter. The man who served us was very attentive. I ordered a margarita pizza and my son ordered one with mushrooms & kalmita olives. I’ve had margarita pizza before and they were made with fresh mozzarella. Maybe they did use fresh but it didn’t taste like it. It was good but not great. My son did enjoy his pizza. He ate the left over pizza for lunch the next day. As I said before our “not our waiter” was great so maybe it was a good thing our real waiter never showed.

There's better and less expensive pizza. Felt like I was paying a premium only to pad the pockets of the NY owners.

Found this restaurant while searching for the best pizza in San Antonio. We had been to their location in Mt. Pleasant SC and remembered how good it was there. No disappointment here, excellent pizza, large size salads and wonderful cheesecake. Great meal.

Caesar & Mediterranean salads are yummy... As for the Pizza, we discovered we were not eating pizza before :) We love Grimaldi's ...

There are so many eateries here at this super mall to pick from. The pizza was great, a little bit on the pricey side. Service was good. I did have a problem with the lady bartender with the unkempt hair frizzing out all over -- I would not want a mixed drink she would fix.

Whenever I have a need for pizza, Grimaldi's is my choice. The only thing that makes it even better is the Tuesday night 1/2 price wine. I love going to Grimaldi's with my husband and friends. It's great for lively conversation, great pizza, and wine. The crust isn't too thin or too thick. It's just right. I feel a little like Goldilocks when I say it, but that's the only way I can describe it. It's a perfect choice for a casual night out. Don't expect to pay Pizza Hut prices. You do pay more for quality. The small is plenty for two people---3 pieces each. We take our leftovers home for another meal. Enjoy Grimaldi's; just make sure you leave me a table for Tuesday night wine night!

Excellent piazza good thin crust servers great Served excellent drinks. Overall great experience that makes you want to return!!!

Have been here on several occasions in an effort to find the perfect New York pizza outside of New York. Grimaldis is pretty close. I've only ever had the pepperoni (small pepperonis, I would have liked the bigger ones) but it's the perfect amount of crust and crunch on the base. They also have a good loyalty club too.

While shopping at La Cantera, we decided to have dinner at this pizzeria and it was excellent. Portions were huge and food was not over-priced. Rely on the waiter's suggestions when making your selections - our waiter was fabulous. Although this is not Chicago style pizza, which is what I am accustomed to, the ingredients were fresh and the pizza was well done. I would definitely go back, if visiting San Antonio again.

Our server was Jacob and he took excellent care of us while we were there at lunchtime. We arrived a little before 1pm and the restaurant was partially filled, we got seated immediately in about the middle. There is a bar with seating and also seating outside if you'd like to eat outside instead. We've been to Grimaldi's in Corpus Christi, Houston, Las Vegas and now this one in San Antonio. Thankfully they all use the same recipe for awesome brick oven pizza. Our pizza of choice is pepperoni with my half also having black olive and sausage. Whoever made the pizza got a little sloppy with the black olive and I had to chase some down from my wife's side before I served it to her.

We have eaten here many times and I thought It was time to write a review! Great visit this past week for pizza on a rainy day! Really had a great couple of pizzas and the service is always excellent. The young lady waiting on our section seemed to be everywhere at once! Go here for a pizza. ONE WORD OF WARNING! They do clean the ovens around 3:30 everyday and this means you won't be getting pizza from around 4 - 5PM. Glad to know they take care of the ovens. We have done large groups here as well.

This is by far my favorite pizza place in San Antonio. The pizza was made perfectly, the crust was excellent, and the toppings were fresh. I do recommend eating outside though, it's pretty hot inside the place. The only complaint I have is the prices. They are pretty expensive, it's not something I will do often because of that.

Excellent in every way. We also enjoy the salads, which are large enough to share. We prefer this pizza (style, flavors, options) better than Dough and the service, atmosphere and staff are more down to earth and attentive. Highly recommend.

No Change from my last review. Great! A pizza like NYC. It is true they charge 20% than it should cost, but you can't find too many pizza places outside of New York City. I have to say for many reviews who say it's not New York Pizza, those people are probably from Long Island, New Jersey or upstate New York. Long Island and upstate are part of the state, but not part of NYC, very different mentality and culture. Of course it would not be something they are familiar with. For the record, Long Islanders think they know everything and as far as Pizza, they are dead wrong. I would recommend "Dough" for them because it's right up their ally. You have to go here. You have to try it. You wont be dissapointed

We are from Europe and usually we are looking for something familiar to eat. The pizza served here was like in Napoli, Italy.Everything was tasty and well cooked.

Been here numerous times, and have never had a bad experience. Have come to order the same things every time. The Caesar salad and a medium pizza with Pepperoni and Mushrooms. Other items are great too, but this is my pizza fix when I need it.

Prolonged wait without particularly great pizza, cannoli or service. Very saucy pizza which basically tastes like puréed tomatoes and burnt crust.

Grimaldi’s definitely offers authentic new york style pizza. Their menu has plenty of options to choose from. Highly recommended!

Ordered a pepperoni pizza this past weekend via Grub Hub and it arrived cold and tasted just okay. We ordered from Grimaldi's because it was very close to our hotel, La Cantera so we thought the pizza would be somewhat warm and because of a great Vegas experience we had previpusly, but we were wrong. Will maybe try dining in next time.

The pizza is always good here nothing like a pizza cooked in wood burning oven! We also tried the spinach salad which was really good too and don't forget to try they're homemade Sangria yummy!!

Oh lord have mercy this pizza is so delicious!!! We were visiting San Antonio on New Year’s day and we’re so glad we stopped by and even waited the hour or so wait due to Covid they’re limiting in dining seating, but it’s so worth the wait. It’s about a 20 minute drive from downtown SA. The pizza is very thin and crispy with a lot of flava and fresh ingredients. We didn’t leave a crumb it’s that delicious. Our server Mia was very friendly and attentive. If we come back to San Antonio we’re definitely stopping at Grimaldi’s!

Went for an early dinner and there was no wait. Meatball pizza is our favorite along with a margarita pizza and side salads. A large salad can easily feed 2-3 people. Food came out quickly. Server was great as well.

I'd love to review the food at Grimaldi's. Unfortunately, I can't. My wife received a coupon for a free birthday pizza so we thought we'd head down Sunday to enjoy it. As we both work, weekends are really the only chance we have to head to the Quarry. We arrived around 3:30 Sunday to be told they had just closed down the ovens to "restoke" and we wouldn't be able to order pizza until around 5:00. Wow. I see now that it is on the website but, seriously, now when I want to go to a restaurant, not only do I have to check the hours to see if they are open, but I also have to study the entire website to see if they are closing down the kitchen while open? I really can't comprehend a pizza place not serving pizza for hours during the day and not prominently displaying that all over the website. It actually just boggles my mind to have a restaurant open and yet not serving food. Oh well, fortunately there are many good pizza place in SA that, when open, actually serve pizza. I guess we'll stick with those from here on out.

I would love to have given Grimaldi's a raving review, but we couldn't even get started. Because? They close the pizza oven between 3:30 and 4:30 for-get this-cleaning. On a Saturday. In the middle of the day. Absolutely incredible. I wonder whose stupid idea this is. They are a pizza restaurant yet they close the oven in the middle of the day. I'll NEVER go to Grimaldi's again. STAY AWAY.

Go here all the time. Some of the best pizza I’ve had! The service is always on point as well. Definitely recommend.

If you're looking for authentic food that doesn't sacrifice flavor, Grimaldi's is an excellent choice. Great atmosphere, choices, variety, plainly said, you will not be disappointed.

We tried the Grimaldi's at the Quarry in San Antonio. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the pizza was. We have tried pizza all over, including New York and this was really good. It is not deep dish but the more traditional crust, but it was excellent. The house Cabernet was a very good compliment and reasonably priced. Service was a little slow but worth the wait.

Super disappointed with the organization at Grimaldi’s. If you are gonna send out an advertisement for a carry out family deal, then be prepared. We called at 5:30 and they said it was 1 1/2 hr wait. That’s fine. So we got there about 6:50. There was a line of about 25 people outside the restaurant waiting to get their already ordered pizzas. It was moving about 10 min per person. Nobody had come come out to inform the people about their orders. So I called the manager and he was apologetic but did not know what to do. He said that my order was ready but didn’t want us to go to the front of the line. Which I get, but now we have a cold pizza and a soggy salad! So we waited about 45 min outside before we decided to leave. (Probably still 12 people ahead of us). As we drove by, we saw about 10 orders already bagged and ready to be picked up!!! Just nobody to ring you out because there was only one employee at register! I know that it’s a learning curve, and we are all struggling to find a new norm right now, but please don’t send out advertisement if you are not properly staffed or organized. We have been eating at home all week and couldn’t wait fo Friday pick up dinner! Guess it’s fast food tonight.

This was our first time here and we met friends for dinner. It is located in the middle section of La Cantera shopping center. The street parking in front on both sides was taken around 5 on a weekday but there is a huge parking lot on the backside we were able to park in and walk a short distance to the restaurant. They have bistro seating outside on the sidewalk if you don't mind the heat and people passing by. The bar is at the front and has seating, which is where we met our group as it appeared they were waiting for the majority of group to show up before seating us. The place was larger than expected with table seating to accommodate all size groups. Our waiter did not introduce himself and was slightly shy (not personable) but answered our questions and took care of the table adequately. This is not a fine dining restaurant so more casual but pricing can add up with toppings in the $3-$5 range above the price of basic pizza starting at $11 for a 12" small size. The 12" small was fine for two people eating light. The salads, others ordered, looked fresh and all said they were very good. The large was really big and could have served four as side salads. The small served two well. I think we might have had higher expectations by the reviews so were disappointed in our pizza. The crust had burned edges (they did take it back and cut off the burnt edges) and portions of the bottom were burned as well It was fairly thin and hardly any cheese. This just isn't the type pizza we enjoy. The happy hour runs from 3:30 to 6 and it offers drink and appetizer specials. If you like wine, the HH is $3 off glass and $15 off bottle (range $28 and up) and they have a large selection. The place was very clean and not too noisy but they were missing window coverings on one very large window which faced the west and so eventually they taped flat pizza boxes to shield the sun coming in on customers. Not too classy but served the purpose. Okay place to meet for HH but doubt we would return otherwise.

We don't come as often as we should - cuz it's always good!! They have the best crust... Authentic New York style!! We had the latest and "grate-est" Quattro Formaggio Pizza (Romano, Gorgonzola, Parmesan and Asiago cheeses) with Sausage and Tomatoes. A large pizza set us back $25 - ouch! It was tasty but the Gorgonzola over-powered everything. This was a plus for my hubby since he loves blue cheese. We also had the large antipasto plate, which was pretty tasty! Our server, Kori, totally rocks!! I believe she's been here a while because she's helped us before! She has a great attitude and you can tell she loves her job!!

This is by far the best brick oven pizzeria we have visited in S.A. Reminds me of a Chicago style pizzeria we visited years ago. Kids love it. Staff is very friendly and patient. YOU HAVE TO HAVE DESSERT!

A few reviewers have noted that this is not NY style pizza, which is totally untrue. I am from NY and this is definitely NY style pizza, and an excellent example at that. Unlike many NY style pizzas this pizza has a thin, crispy crust, but like most good NY style pizzas has a sense of minimalism. The crispiness comes from a rocket hot coal-fired brick oven as opposed to a traditional pizza oven you see in many restaurants. The service at this location was great. The server was attentive, although we didn't need much attention. We did ordered a half plain cheese and half pepperoni small pie. The pizza came out quickly, as one would expect in a good pizza restaurant and had outstanding flavor. The only knock on the place is the price is quite high compared to your average pizza place. For an occasional reminder of home it is worth it though.

We stopped at the La Cantera Grimaldis the evening of 5/24 for a pizza. Our expectations were to have a positive experience similar to what we previously enjoyed at this location, as well as the Corpus Christi restaurant. After a 20 minute wait (reasonable considering it was a Sat. night of a holiday weekend) we were seated. We ordered a salad and a vegetarian pizza. The salad came right out and was fine. Then, the wait began. We sat thru a neighboring table of 8 being seated and served before the waitress even dropped by to tell us that "our pizza was coming right out". After another 15 minutes, during which a couple dining nearby returned their food twice, the manager came out and told us that there had been a mistake with our order and pepperoni had been mistakenly included on our pizza. He said that he had told the kitchen staff to re-make our pizza as ordered, and it would be just another few minutes. He apologized and offered an appetizer, which we declined since our pizza would be right out. Another 10-15 minutes went by. By this point our waitress was just pretending we didn't exist as we tried to flag her down for a status report on the pizza rumored to be headed our way. She finally was unable to ignore us any longer and very graciously agreed to check. Shortly thereafter a different girl brought out a pizza and unceremoniously dumped it on the table with a half-hearted '"sorry for the wait". We started to eat the pizza, although it appeared to be minus the extra cheese we had ordered, and was somewhat skimpy on toppings in general except for SAUSAGE. Apparently the kitchen staff was a bit pissed with having to re-fire our original order, and sent the new "vegetarian" out with sausage. We miraculously got the attention of our waitress and asked for the manager who again came over to apologize. He seemed mildly upset, but not that surprised that his kitchen staff had once again failed to put out a very basic order. When we expressed that we had reached our breaking point and would be leaving his culinary house of horrors,he offered to make us a pizza to go. Given the amount of time we had already wasted trying to eat dinner I could only assume we would be receiving a breakfast pizza by the time it arrived, and it would probably not be what we ordered anyway. We declined his offer and left, about an hour and 15 minutes after entering, hungrier than when we had arrived and very disappointed with our experience. The difference in this visit and our previous trips to Grimaldis was night and day. The restaurant staff failed in virtually every category. They were very disorganized, painfully slow, terrible at communication, and most important, took no pride at all in serving good food as it was ordered. In addition, other than a couple of meaningless "sorries" no one would even take responsibility for the mess they all created. Based on this dinner (our last at Grimaldis) I'd say the service, food quality, and any sign of self respect or pride in your job from the bussers to management has hit rock bottom. With the many other dining options nearby, Grimaldi's had better think about making some changes or failing that, close the doors. This place is a disgrace.

We heard this was a great place to have great pizza. We ordered medetarianian salad and house salad. It was really good. We had the pepperoni pizza and a white pizza with garlic. Very tasty.

Our party of three adults decided to try Grimaldi's after a long day at Sea World. This seemed to be the closest location, although its not really close to Sea World. We had our own car and that wasn't an issue for us. We were ravenous when we arrived as we hadn't eaten since breakfast and had spent the day walking in the park. We were seated immediately and service was fast and friendly. Everything we had was delicious. We shared two different pizzas and tried a couple of beers. In all, everything was great and we'd happily try this location or others in the future.

No gluten free option. That's unfortunate. Everything was quite tasty though. Fresh tasting and great flavors.

I live in New York, the home of the great thin pizza! I can't believe that we came here to eat because I swear I will never eat pizza outside of New York City! The pizza was thin and tasted almost as good as New York. My son who reside in San Antonio comes here for New York Pizza! The restaurant serves pizza almost as good as New York Pizza!!

This was a return visit to Grimaldi's and most likely our last. We were shocked to see the tiny (dime size) pepperoni on our pizza, which during prior visits we had the normal size pepperoni. We asked the waiter why and he said, "Cut-backs". Well, prices hadn't been cut back!

I visited our PIZZERIA on 15.02.2016, a true delusione.I ate the pizza margherita, mozzarella was not sliced but rather 'chopped and basil from RECIPE NAPOLETANA is put on MOZZARELLA after putting it in the oven!

Food as expected was awesome. Fresh pizza and love the crisp oven open flamed pizza crust. Caesar salad was very good. Staff was wonderful and dont forget to ask for kids to be given pizza crust to play with....very entertaining.

Prettying good pizza. Service is above average. The price is expensive. For a pizza, salad and a Soft beverage for two is well into $50.00. They do have a wine night and a Happy Hour. Give them a try. Cheers!

Pretty close to New York style pizza, or at least that's what the staff pushes. This is an enormous chain restaurant, and this one can get crowded. The pizza is thin crust and is actually close to Lombardi's in NY, but not quite it. Go to Big Lou's Pizza in San Antonio if you want a tasty pie. Yes they're the place with the giant pizza gimmick...it's no gimmick that pizza is great. This pizza at Grimaldi's is well thought out, but not great. Topped off by the slow service. I won't be back, I'll stick with Big Lou's.

This is our go to pizza dinner. we love Grimaldi's Pizza and try to visit every few weeks. We have our favorite pizza and enjoy a fresh salad. The servers are very good and well trained. We enjoy the food and environment. Recommend for a good pizza dinner with family and friends.

The house wine, a pino grisio, was excellent . The place was crowded and it was difficult to find a parking spot but the artesian pizza was so good, that it was worth it.

Absolutely loved our server, Joseph. He was polite, always on top of things, and really made us feel comfortable there. The pizza was so delicious! We were a large group so we all got several different pizzas and we were able to try all three sauces - marinara, garlic, and pesto. The pesto was by far the best sauce. Be careful as your pizza price can add up quickly depending on how many toppings you add on. We will definitely be returning!

The pizza was good. Customer service was not the greatest. We're on the list and they started skipping over us and had to raise a stink to get seated. Food was good though.

My family and stopped by at this Grimaldi's location at La Cantera. Both the food and service were exceptional. We had a Margarita and a sausage pizza. Prior to this we also had a Caesar salad. As indicated, everything was great. The only drawback is the wait time to get a table. This visit, it was about an hour and a half. This is one area they need to improve upon.

Great new york style pizza- a bit $$ but worth every penny!! Soft crust, fresh toppings baked in a coal burning hearth - what more could a pizza lover ask for!!

We ate here while shopping at La Cantera and loved it!. The pizzas were very tasty, and were huge with just the right amount of toppings. We had 5 people in our party, and ordered 2 larges, just so we could have leftovers to take home. (the leftovers were gone by the next day!) The salads were fresh and tasty. The pizza wasn't overly greasy or soggy. Our waiter was awesome and attentive. This was a nice, family style restaurant that we will return to the next time we're in town.

Dined this past weekend with family and friends. My wife had visited their Las Vegas location over past few years, my first visit. Dined late on Saturday night over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, restaurant was busy but was able to get seated quickly with only a short wait. Great ambiance. Waiter was good at explaining the menu and the options, however he missed explaining the toppings on the Margherita pizza, which is not made the traditional way with fresh tomatoes (they use sauce) which was a big let down especially since it was on the menu as a specialty pizza, other pizzas we ordered were very good. Waiter was acknowledging of the shortcomings of some of the menu options. Alcoholic beverages ordered we okay (beer, wine, specialty drinks).Overall for the price, service and food flavor I believe this restaurant is a good choice.

I was visiting family in the area and they said we must have pizza here.. I’m so glad we did. The pizza was so delicious!! We got two different kinds and both were delicious, but my favorite would be the white with garlic. I wish I lived closer or had a pizza place similar back home. I’d love to try different combinations and would eat there often..

Grimaldi's is one of the best pizza joints going. We love the food, the service is ecxellent. The open kitchen with the stone ovens adds the sights and smells add the perfect atmosphere.

Five of us ordered two 18" pizzas with sausage, onion, green pepper and pepperoni. Crust was pliable, not crispy and burned on the bottom. Taste was very average and, for me, it didn't have enough sauce to give it good taste. Server never offered to refill glasses and it's a little pricey. Not worth the time or money unless you just have to have pizza and are in the area.

Truly sad. This used to be our "go to" pizza place close by at least once / month. The last two visits have been awful. There is a long wait because it is (was) a good restaurant. Service has been slow and the wine is just meh. The salads are big - and should be shared. Usually the pizza is great - thin-ish crust (more like tossed or homestyle) with toppings which can be racy or comforting. The last two visits, which will be our last, ruined it. The second to last visit the pizza was actually burnt. We ate most of it - because we were starving ... see slow service comment above. The last visit the wait wasn't as long, but the pizza was simply soggy. No excuse.

This pizza was fantastic! We tried 3 today - The Don, the Margherita, and a White pizza with chicken. Oh man, they were all great. The crusts were perfect. I think partly because of the coal fired oven. They really remind me of Connecticut style pizza. And the staff was helpful and friendly. Service was pretty fast. Zero complaints. Definitely my new go-to place for pizza!

To visit this pizzeria necessarily. They have the best pizza we've eaten and compared to well-known locations in Italy. The Mediterranean salad is incredibly fresh and tasty, and sweet-cheesy cake is the culmination of a memorable meal. Good that there are such restaurants in an ocean of fast food..

My wife choose Grimaldi's for our lunch when we went shopping at the Shops. I reminded me of NYC the minute we walked into the place. Our waitress was very helpful and suggested we order the small salad which we could easily split, which was nice since we eat small portions. We ordered out pizza with a couple of topping. The salad was cold (Thanks) and the pizza was hot (Again Thanks). Who knew that the best NYC pizza was right here in SA. We will return often.

Considering the sheer number of pizza places in town, it should be any easy task to find a dough thrower that melts your cheese. There are, however, so many chains that re just mediocre to downright, well, let's just say less than mediocre. You also have the high end stores that offer gourmet toppings and a quality product. From a kid who thought Shakey's had the best pizza in town to an adult who now looks for big taste with a moderate price, the pickings are slim. Grimaldi's happens to be a chain but not so widely spread as chains go. Their ambiance is a little more upscale than most and so are the prices. The "Don", one of their specialty pizzas that I enjoy is $25 for a large. I consider any pizza over $25 to be in the upper moderate category to expensive category. After all, it's just inexpensive dough,a little tomato sauce sauce, some scant cheeses and maybe a few meat shavings. The end product is much tastier here than your average pie purveyor though I have had just as good from a tiny place on Callaghan Rd. to a rustic place on the edge of Bexar County. When I rate pizza, I always order enough to have leftovers. If the pizza tastes good as a re-heat (as well as when it is served fresh; seafood and fresh veggie pizzas notwithstanding), it receives a higher rating in my book. Grimaldi's is a good re-heat. If you happen to find yourself at La Cantera and are craving a pizza, this is a convenient albeit a sometimes crowded stop. If you are like me, you know of a number of great tasting pizza places where your money will go much further and the taste experience is equivalent or superior.

If I could eat there a few times a week I would be fat and happy! Unfortunately, we have since moved from the area. I absolutely love this pizza, hot from the coal fired oven. The fresh garlic and basil is amazing and the crust is crisp and chewy perfection. The salads are all huge and wonderful. This place will always be on my short list when I'm in town. I miss you Grimaldi's!!!

It's always a good time going out to eat Pizza and Grimaldi's is no exception. The atmosphere is open, appealing to the eye and not so noisy that you can hear your neighbor loud and clear. The pizza comes Hot, crunchy and delicious. I like a pizza where the cheese slaps you on the chin, this is not one of them. The salads are really good and the beer pretty cold. Located in La Cantara mall Grimaldi's is a local hit and is popular with the locals.

Grimaldi's is a chain but it is probably the best chain pizza I have ever had. Their giant salads are also really good. I could use a little more intimate atmosphere but it is priced really well and the pizza is hard to beat.

Grimaldi's pizza is ok but certainly not worth waiting in line an hour to be seated. All pizza toppings are an additional cost, so you can quickly have a very expensive pizza served! Caesar salad is good. Service is not the best.

The pizza is awesome. It's a NY style thin crust. We had pepperoni, mushrooms, and of course BACON!!! We also got a 16in (Med/Sml) calzone and it was way bigger than we thought. It wasn't tasty either. Service was good. Could've had 5 stars but the Calzone did not do it for us. Blah.

We loved our pizza with artichokes, fresh tomatoes, olives and sausage--but we felt $28 for a SMALL pizza was a little pricey. Salad was fresh, crisp and nicely dressed. Waited for a table, but it was a Saturday night, so that was to be expected. Noise level is high with brick walls and tile floors, but we didn't find that unbearable.

You can't get better pizza than from a coal fired oven! Unfortunately, that means you have to wait until after 5:00 PM for it since it takes a while to get the coal oven stoked and ready to cook.

Grimaldi's Pizzeria offers delicious pizza in a cozy atmosphere. One salad is enough for two to share. I would recommend the Lemon Drop Martini.

Authentic and yummy. Everything screams Italian pizza when you walk in. It has the feels of an upscale restaurant with it's dark walls and lovely furnishings. Parking can be a bit of a challenge as with all of these restaruants in this area. You must use a parking lot down the way or on the other side of building. It's not a big deal just don't expect to park in front. Of course, what screams pizza more than red and white gingham tablecloths! The hostess greeted us and promptly seated us. We went for lunch. We got there about 11:15am and by noon it was packed. We ordered a meat lovers pizza. It was amazing. The pizza was enormous which was what we were looking for. We also had chicken ceasar salad that was average at best. The chicken didn't work for me. I hate cold chicken on my salad. The pizza was divine. The crust is yummy. Not sure why but it is. We even ordered a pizza to go.

We visited in late June of this year. My son recommended Grimaldi's to us during a visit to SA. When we arrived there was a wait but not extensive. Once seated we realized it was extremely warm in the restaurant and there were strange looking blowers placed around the dining room. We asked our waitress and she said the a/c was out and that was the temporary air source. It was uncomfortable but we ordered appetizers and drinks. I felt for the waitresses and waiters, it must have been a real challenge to work in that environment, and forget the kitchen! Our waitress forgot my appetizer but our pizza was really good as was the salads. I will definitely try this restaurant in the future but only if the a/c is working! Why would this restaurant stay open in the summer with temps over 100 degrees?

Two months ago my husband invited me to have some late lunch in this restaurant we did love the pizza and desserts in here and while we were here we mentioned to the waiter that we live nearby and he gave us a flyer saying if we wanted take out pizza we could get a discount using the flyer . So today I decided to get some take out pizza and use the flyer . I called the restaurant at 11:38 am since we wanted to order online and use the flyer with the $5 discount . A lady answered and I specifically asked her can we use the flyer if we ordered online or do I have to make the order over the phone and hand you the flyer so we get the discount . She said of course you can order online and just show us the flyer and we will discount it once you give us the flyer . I said okay I will order online. 3PM came and we walked all the way to pick up the online order . We showed the lady at the hostess stand the flyer for the $5 discount and she said she wanted to show this to their manager if they can honor it . A few minutes later she comes back and told us you cannot do this online because my manager will have to open up the order and the kitchen will have to make again the pizza . I said well we called earlier at 11:38 am and talked to someone she said we can do this online and once we pick up the order we can show the flyer and get the $5 discount . Oh no you can't do that you have to order it here physically then you show us the flyer before we can give out the discount , hey don't get me wrong it's not really about the $5 discount . It's about giving your customers the correct information . The very least the manager of this restaurant should have the proper training of customer service by exerting a little effort of making it right . I have worked in the hospitality industry for 32 years and this is not good customer service . $5 is not a big amount of money it's always about the principle and the effort to try to make it right . We have dined in so many times in. expensive restaurants and always tipped more for good service but I told my husband I will put this restaurant in my black list because the very least they could just have communicated to us the correct information on how to use the voucher it's not even about the money . It's about how they do things for their customers . There a a lot of pizza places we can go but this restaurant will definitely be not be one of them ever . I'm also not surprise that despite their good food they have a 3.5 rating and this speaks a lot on how their customer service is .

NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY RESTAURANT. We've been semi-regulars (1-2 monthly visits) at the La Cantera location since it opened. We returned recently for an early lunch (we were the first arrivals when they opened) with our 4-months-old infant grandchildren (twins). They were asleep in their stroller. We made it all the way to the table and the 20ish-year-old host asked us if we needed booster chairs. We declined as they were sleeping and also cannot sit up yet. We were told that if we didn't seat the babies in booster chairs we couldn't stay. I mentioned to him that we take the sleeping babies with us to early lunches once per week in San Antonio and we'd never been rejected by any restaurant until then. He shrugged his shoulders when I said we'd be glad to leave. We distinctly felt they just did not want infants in the restaurant. We ended up down the way at The Cheescake Factory where we were immediately seated sans comments and attitude, and we enjoyed our lunch as the babies continued their late morning nap. We will never return to Grimaldi's.

Well time to eat well. Grimaldi's is a family favorite and never disappoints. Thin brick oven pizza are the bomb. We usually get 2 Dons and the chicken pesto. We must always have leftovers. The Greek salad is always tasty. The staff is always attentive and the atmosphere reminds you of New York Italian. A must eat.

I really want to like Grimaldi's, but it is just not my favorite pizza in SA. The cheese is very rubbery and the crust is too chewy. The toppings are decent and the waitstaff is efficient and mostly friendly. The cheese on the pizza is very important and I just do not like the cheese Grimaldi's uses on their pizza.

Love the Mediterranean salad along with the pizza. We had sausage meatballs and extra cheese my 6yr old usually wants just cheese but he ate the whole thing.

Just had to jump into here for lunch. Didn't disappoint, AGAIN! Services top notch and the pizzas are always fantastic!

Get the crust right & everything else follows. The leopard spots underneath the pizza let me know the kitchen rocks out with a wood fired oven. The bruschetta was so-so, nothing special and the Caesar salad a bit sparse, lettuce, crotons & shaved parmesan. While its nice to have a Caesar salad as a menu choice, it quickly turns into disappointed when it hits the table. The high point of the evening was Faissal, our server. Prompt, efficient, courteous, likely the best service we've had anywhere in the past year, thank you Faissal. All in all, two 12" pizzas, bruschetta, a large Caesar salad,, an ice tea and a Sangria, totaled out at $63 w/tax. The reason for three stars, the bruschetta & the Caesar salad were not up to par. Final note, as this is one of the few pizza joints in the La Cantera Mall complex, expect a wait or time your arrival to beat the crowd. Great for friends who enjoy a buzzing atmosphere. .

Family of four wanted to try a new pizza place while in SA. We came late (10:30) and it was still packed. We ordered a simple large cheese and shared plain cheesecake. Overall, pizza was great. I would try a meat lovers type next time. The server was not very attentive and even brought us our check without asking if we wanted a dessert. We had already planned on trying dessert but she never asked. We asked another server to help and she got our waitress to check with us. She had to "check to see if her kitchen was closed" - it was 11:00, and she seemed a bit put out. We ended up getting the cheesecake and it was good. Great atmosphere and good pizza. Not as good as Joes Pizza in Greenwich Village NYC though. It did make us want to go back to NYC!

For a couple to visit, it does not offer a quiet and intimate ambiance. It is loud and crowded. The food was good which I ordered a gluten crusted vegetarian pizza. My husband had a meaty pizza. So for a lunch break from a shopping day, it does fill the need for its convenient location.

This was a popular spot! We had a long witty for our large party but they texted us when our table wss ready which made it possible for us to go shop which was nice! Gluten free pizza is not always worth eating but there's ess fabulous! The Mediterranean salad was the best I've eaten! Great choice!

We love their thin and crispy pizza with house-made mozzarella. We order ours with roasted red peppers, pepperoni and anchovies. Their Caesar Salad is delicious and the others are good, too. We are usually too full to order dessert. The wine list is very reasonable. During the summer, on Tuesdays, the wine, by the glass and bottle, are half-priced.

We had wanted to try Grimaldi's for awhile as friends had highly recommended this place. Loved the staff, food and location. I ordered a small pizza and my husband had a calzone. Both were cooked to perfection with very fresh ingredients, and they also had a great selection of beers on tap. I would say they only thing we were a little surprised at was the prices- one small pizza, one calzone, we split a small dinner salad, and two beers and our check was $70.00. But again, I stress, the food was wonderful!!!

we ordered pizza take out from here after a very long hot day at Fiesta Texas- Grimaldi's never disappoints no matter the location, but this one was fast, friendly and delicious- best bet? Draw straws, winner goes to order, has a drink at the bar while waiting :)

This place is great, after shopping. Located in the central area of La Cantera Mall. This place has some great pizza and an amazing staff.Talk about a 21-inch pizza & 8 whole slices. Don't forget too add a drink for $2.50 like a dr.pepper or a tea. Try it for yourself! Oh yeah and bring your family too.

To everyone who matters. I want to this restaurant this afternoon i ask to set out side was lovely day they offer me table for every 20 minutes no one come to my table after that one of the waiter brought to me the menu and to start order my food and the table still very dirty i want i asked for the manager name (((Erick))) to shear this hospitality issues with him he said will take care after me but he didn't i order my pizza takes them over 35 minutes and wasn't good pizza i will never go back to this restaurant any more.

We really enjoyed the small house salad, it was full of goodies, mushrooms, red pepper, mushrooms Italian vinaigrette and was big enough to share. We ordered a 18 inch with Italian sausage, artichokes half black olives and a quarter of anchovies. The pizza is very thin crust and tasted wonderful. My husband really enjoyed his anchovie slices. We will definitely come back

Grimaldi's is the best pizza in San Antonio! The customer service and atmosphere are on point! We eat here frequently!

Best pizza, fresh ingredients, generous toppings and the best crust! Service was perfect! It's a little noisy, but it gives to the Italian atmosphere! Wine is priced well & the house wine is very good!

Loved the crust on this pizza. We tried the “Brooklyn”. Can’t say I cared for the ricotta cheese on the pizza. Next time I’d try a different kind. Service was okay.

Pizza was great. Every employee encountered (from manager, to waiter, bartender, kitchen workers) was genuinely friendly and helpful. We arrived at closing time, yet they rolled out the red welcome carpet.

This was the first time I have eaten at Grimaldi's. The pizza is outstanding. Then NY style with superb crust and nice oven fired crisp. Only draw back is no sandwiches or other oven fired items. Would for sure go back!

We had lunch at Grimaldi's Pizzeria and enjoyed the pizza and caprese salad. Great location and friendly staff.

If you like pizza, this place is the real deal. This is by far, the best pizza that I have found in San Antonio. Awesome selection of salads and pizza. Will make this a regular dinner spot whenever I'm in San Antonio.

Went with a friend and her visiting family and was actually shocked how great the pizza was. Granted, it could have been mediocre and I would have been pleased, but this was just damnright tasty. Given the pleasant decor, professional staff and rather convenient location in the forearm of the LaCanterra Shopping Center, you're right ontop of lots of shopping. If you're just in the mood for a pizza AND you feel like changing into something better than your pajamas, head out to Grimaldi's. You won't regreat it.

This is definitely the baby capital in the area. We love kids but it was extremely noisy ... Not a place to relax and enjoy a slice or two. The food was ok not what we are used to. The service was very good. Based on the amount of families .. It works well for them.

Excellent - order the salad as a starter and you'll be full for the day! Well worth the money and the drive. Friendly staff.

I've eaten twice at Grimaldi's near the Quarry Market. Both times, the food was very good and the service was excellent. Grimaldi's is a mid price range restaurant. They have a good variety of food and salads. Keep in mind that the pizza is a base price and then add $$ per each additional topping. My wife and I will often split a salad and a small pizza for lunch. It is plenty for us, as we do watch what we eat. The salads are good, but I think a little pricey. The antipasto salad is truely just that, no lettuce or other typical salads. We ate recently with a large group of 14 and we had an excellent waiter. The only challenge that day, was no A/C. We were hot, the beer was hot, but the food was good and service was excellent.

Very popular Rim eatery with the ability to open the whole side of the restaurant to the outside courtyard. This is a good thing in that they need every last table space. Forget about parking anywhere in the lane near the front of the store. You will most likely have a hike from a parking lot around the other side of the building. I have come to equate New York pizza, such as they serve here, with scant sauce and less than generous toppings, and this place is no different. If you are on a diet, this would be the preferred pizza type. The quality of the ingredients offered is just a bit above average. However, for the upper moderate price, the amount of toppings, and the elbow in your face seating, I would opt for a large pie from Papa Murphy's with twice the ingredients, better quality, half the price, and pocket the 10 spot. For those of you who do not like pizza with the perfect amount of not-too-thin not-too-think layer of sauce, adequate cheese to cause those long stings when you pull the pieces apart like you see in the commercials, tasty meats that are cut thick enough or applied thick enough to actually provide a bit of said ingredient in every bite that you can see and taaste, this place is probably for you. Don't get me wrong. The pizza here is O.K. for what it is; a thin crust pizza with average to good flavor and light enough toppings for a hungry twosome to come close to eating their largest pizza. I'm not talking about Man vs Food types either. Rant: These Mall eateries unfortunately have to charge premium prices to get you to help them pay for the high rent they are subject to. Personally, I would rather see most of my money go towards the food I purchase rather than some developer's pocket. Rave (sort of): It is nice to have the convenience of a decent restaurant co-located with fashionable shops. If you are hungry after spending all of your money on expensive clothing and accessories, you can always spend more on high priced food.

I love this pizza! Always the perfect amount of sauce and fresh toppings! We love the pepperoni and Italian sausage! Good bar selection, too.

Yummy pizza and good service! Great atmosphere and good place to take the children! Fun times and good food!

A cozy and warm atmosphere. Great friendly, service. Salads are generous portions so be sure to share. The pizza was delicious. Will definitely return.

My husband and I have been to Grimaldi's on several occasions which is why we decided to patron them last night for a special occasion. We brought three other friends with us (business owners and professionals) that have never been there before. While we've often experience a little bit of a wait for pizza, we've never expected the nightmare we went through last night. We ordered three pizzas, two large (one of them had 6 toppings!) and one small. The two large pizzas came out first but the small was nowhere to be found. We had to stop the waitress a couple of times to check on it. When it finally arrived, it was incorrect (no meat). Unfortunately, my friend that ordered the small pizza was also the one that had to wait a very long time for her wine. When we asked to see the manager. Craig (was only able to get out his name by asking an employee that was out back smoking), came over to our table. It was painfully apparent the moment he stepped up by both body language and attitude that he was not concerned at all with the service provided to us. We told him thank you, but never mind. And just to be clear, even though Craig's attitude was unacceptable, we are all professionals in our 40's and we did not react by being loud or disruptive in any way. We were sitting in the booth closest to the kitchen so after Craig's departure my husband was able to overhear the Craig telling one of his staff that "he wasn't worried about how late/wrong our order was" and that "we were probably on our way to a strip bar." What?! Needless to say this infuriated my husband. Pete did not say anything, but did give Craig a dirty look. Craig, then came over to my husband and stood directly in front of him and asked him "Do you have a problem?". I'm sorry, but anyone would take that as confrontational. My husband stood up and said hell yes, he had a problem and told him he overheard what he said. Craig did not apologize and instead said he was calling the police, which he did! The friend that ordered the small pizza got up and went to talk to Craig. Again, he was not apologetic in any way and said that he called his boss, who reviewed video, and authorized him to call the police. I highly doubt his boss saw the part on the video where the manager was degrading us to his employees. In the end, the police were understanding and nothing came of it. It was a complete nightmare. My advice, if Craig is working, either walk out immediately, or don't complain. My friends and I will never patronize Grimaldi's again wholly because of Craig.

YES! Finally a pizzeria that makes a great pizza without getting ripped off or disappointed. This is what I miss from my home town of NYC. A simple pizza that tastes like a pizza that has fresh mozzarella cheese and a good sauce recipe. The atmosphere is nice with the brick walls, tiled floors and checkered table cloths. I'm not sure why other reviews claim the antipasti is blah, but what do you expect with mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, olives, peppers and some olive oil. It's about the simple flavor and freshness for one to appreciate. The salads were fresh and crisp. The pizza was a traditional NY style. Thin and crispy crust, fresh tomato sauce and ingredients. I would agree that the price is somewhat higher of what it should be, but then the others probably didn't go to the pizzeria "Dough" and pay for bad pizza with imported ingredients for them to charge outrageous prices. I had to emphasize that again, many just don't know better. So don't miss this place!

Many authentic option for everyone. Choose your favorite ingredients for a New York style Pizza or Calzone fill with Ricotta cheese. Nice wine list!

We sat at the bar and we had excellent service. We had three people behind the bar who waited on us. We enjoyed talking with them. The food was excellent.

Had the PESTO pizza instead of the traditional red sauce. I have to say that it made this great pizza even better. Signed up for their emails so I can come back for a free pizza on my birthday! WOOO HOOOO!

This is hands down, the very best pizza I've ever eaten. Excellent friendly service, good selection of beer. Nice atmosphere, made me feel like I was in New York, at a neighborhood pizza parlor. I just loved it, going back for more.

If you want a good brick oven pizza & you're the area, this is your place. The ingredients are fresh & the pizza was cooked perfectly. While I'm a thick crust pizza lover, thin crust deserves some love too, LoL. I got a white pizza with garlic, topped with grilled chicken & mushrooms. The white pizza comes plain & you have to pay extra for each topping with the grilled chicken being $5. Even though there wasn't much sauce on it, the pizza & chicken were perfectly cooked. My fellow pizza lovers got the Margherita with pepperoni topping & it was tasty as well. The pepperoni was fresh & "popped" with flavor. You have to like the taste of basil since this pizza has a strong flavor. All-in-all, I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area. The service was good, no complaints.

The pizza was wonderful!! The service was great as well. A great place to share and create memories with friends.

I believe this has to be one of the best pizza places I have ever eaten at. There crust is to die for. A little pricy, but I believe well worth it.

Several people said it was New york style pizza. No way. It was good, brick oven pizza but not NYC style in anyway. Still good for quick bite, large groups, families, etc..

This is the place to be for NY style pie. Stop questioning where to go and go here or one of the other 2 San Antonio locations. The pizza is great and the service is too.

We came over on Sunday and I am glad we were able to find a place that truly makes great pizzas here in San Antonio. Can't wait to come back.

I had a pizza and was very pleased with the crust and the quality of cheese. One of the best. Friendly and attentive wait staff.

This was our first visit. Only 15 min wait—-pizza good, salad good, service good and calazone good—-pricey for pizza but good.

Fabulous pizza!! Uses fresh mozzarella! We've eaten at the original one in Brooklyn and it was just as good! Very thin crust like we love. Must try!

Very bad service. Told us 30 min and took an hour to get the food on the table. Staff rather rude . Would definitely not come back

This was our first time in here. The staff was very friendly. I travel with a service dog and the staff was very accepting and trained on how to handle the needs with someone with a service dog. The pizza was very good. I would recommend this place to anybody who travels with a service dog.

Grimaldi's may be a fixture elsewhere but is relatively new here in San Antonio...I'm glad they're here. Delicious pizza is the norm at Grimaldi's and I think the coal fired brick ovens may play a part in that because the thin crust is just perfect! I get the regular sauce which is superb, but they also have white pizza with garlic, as well as pesto style pizzas (and calzones). In addition to great pizza they have a wonderful, lively atmosphere in a restaurant large enough to seat big families or gatherings. It's fine for kids but it's not a kid's style pizza place so, if they're younger or bored easily take out from Grimaldi's is available too. They also have outside seating and what I'd call a "pizza bar" open to the street. Service was quite good and I'm planning to go back for more! I was there to meet some business partners but It's intimate enough for couples.

Love the pizza at Grimaldi's. It is just authentic pizza. If you are tired of the same old chain pizza locations then this is the place to go. Even their salads are the best. Absolutely love this place!!!!!!!!!!

We got right in with no wait. We had excellent gluten free pizza and we loved the Mediterranean Salad!! Great place!

This pizza place is in a trendy outdoor mall, had to wait 1/2 hour on a Friday night, but you're going to get that this time of the year. The service was excellent; the people were attentive to us, the food came out fast, and it was very good food. The exceptional ingredients of the antipasto and pizza made for exceptional food. The atmosphere was good.

Went into Grimaldi's to celebrate a friends graduation on Thursday the 6th of November. We had a group of 6 persons and a substantial dinner bill. While everyone else received their food, one in our group ordered a personal pizza and had not received it even after everyone else had finished eating. When the manager's attention was requested, he approached confrontational and was very RUDE asking was there a problem? When we tried to explain what had happened, he was rude, making excuses, not apologizing for the situation, we finally asked him to leave. Afterwards, he walked over to an area close enough to hear him talking and made comments about us being the kind of group that would leave his restaurant and go to a strip club. This angered one of the men in our group who then made a comment which simply included and expletive and the manager called the police to have us removed. I am myself a business owner and approached the manager one on one ( I am a woman), which should not matter, but did seem to cause him anguish, and explained why we were so upset. HE didn't handle himself professionally, etc...... He was rude, interrupted me and excused, again, the reasons for our displeasure. I will never dine there again and while speaking to other members of the Grimaldi team, they also do not like working for this man. He is unprofessional on several occasions according to the staff and none were surprised when they saw our displeasure. So spare yourself the evening of this mans attitude and professionalism!! Dr. Walker

I have a wood fire oven and have ta elles ti Italy throughout my life. So we have perfection our home made pizza. Unusually I go to pizza restaurant only in Italy where I can speak to the pizzayolo to learn and improve our pizzas. The problem with most "wood fire" pizza restaurants is that since wood is to expensive to use they use gas in their ovens and at best a mixture of gas with some wood. So pizzas are mediocre from the beginning to end because they never use San Marzano tomatoes and Mozzarella buffala as their cheese. Grimaldi has a variation where they use charcoal to bake their pizzas giving the a "special flavor" unique to Grimaldi's. Wine selection is limited and it's an informal restaurant but pizzas are worth every cent you pay. The most original pizza I have tried in this part of the planet.

This is the second visit for us, and both times it was wonderful! Grimaldi's is a casual dining pizza joint that is full of life and energy. The food smells wonderful, and the service is great. Our waitress did such a good job my son tipped her $1 extra of his own money and he has never done that. We ordered a full carafe of house Pinot Grigio which was good and very reasonably priced. We shared a small Cesar salad. It was a decent size for a small (enough for 1-3 as an appetizer), but was sooo good that all five of us had some and it was devoured in no time, leaving us wishing we had ordered the large! The pizza takes a while to come out (about 25 minutes, as promised), but it is well worth it. This has to be one of the best pizzas anywhere - I highly recommend it for a date, for families, or for any gathering of friends.

The ambiance was AH-MAZING and the waitress (Jordan) did a great job as well. But the 16” calzone was just okay. I didn’t realize the calzone price was for it plain and everything I added to it was $3 more per item. So my 3-meat calzone cost me $28. WTW??? The calzone wasn’t even that good as it was stuffed with mozzarella and ricotta cheese…almost too much cheese and not enough meat. The only things that made it decent was the breading was delicious and the marinara sauce to counteract the over abundance of cheese. My wife ordered the caprese and it was not that good. To serve it with just oil and vinegar instead of a balsamic Vinaigrette was a little different. My wife had a $13 Mojito and she said it was just okay. She would have known is was $13 she wouldn’t have ordered it.

The pizza was absolutely amazing. Some of the best pizza I've had. Then I had the seasonal blueberry cheesecake and it was amazing the cheesecake just melted in your mouth and the blueberries were fresh picked and delicious. Service was polite and quick.

Enjoyed the New York style pizza at Grimaldi's - without the cramped and rushed NYC experience. It was a bit pricey for pizza but if you like NY pizza, it is worth a try!

Arrive at an "off" time or when you aren't quite hungry because there's usually at least a 30 minute wait... in the hot, humid climate. Once inside, the atmosphere is cool and comfortable. If you're in the mood for pizza, calzones, salad, drinks, and a small dessert menu, you'll find that here. The food is tasty. We asked for ours extra crispy and it was just as we requested. The toasted edge looked amazing. I was slightly disappointed that it was slightly "dry"and needed more pasta sauce. Other than that, it was great. We ordered the Mediterranean salad and devoured it. The definitely got that right but I was slightly shocked that it was without tomatoes. The flavor, however, was amazing and the cheese was so fresh. We hope you enjoy it.

Had been told there was a 15 minute wait (no problem). Ended up being about 45 minutes in a very small and crowded waiting area. Service was good, food was good. Was upset that they do not serve bread and do not have ranch...quoted " we are New York style pizza" everyone loves ranch on salads and with pizza. Many other better choices for pizza but worth a try.

After mediocre visits to Grimaldi's, we decide to visit again while shopping at La Cantera and give them another try. This was the worst visit we have had. The very thin pizza crust is soggy on the bottom, there is virtually no pizza sauce, the cheese is so rubbery, the toppings are very scant and the outer two inches of the pizza is crust. We will not return. There are so many better choices including pizza served at many chain restaurants. Super expensive, as well. The young girls at the entrance that take your name when there is a wait are unfriendly and sullen.

Grimaldi’s Pizza is one of those names you know if you are from the east coast, so I was pleasantly surprised to have a chance to eat at one in San Antonio. The pizza is just as good as I remember - cheesy, yummy perfectly cooked goodness. Getting TO the restaurant can be a bit of a challenge. Parking at the mall during busy times was a bit of a nightmare and then having to wait and wait for a table was also not ideal. It looks like a chain restaurant version of a NY pizzeria inside and it was very clean. Service wasn’t great and wasn’t horrible as seems to be the norm many places these days. If the food wasn’t so good, this would likely have knocked it down another star.

I am a Pizza person but I will never eat at the Grimaldi’s in La Cantera again. We visited a few weeks ago and the hostess was rude and did not want to seat us. We were told the ovens were being cleaned at 2:30 in the afternoon. After we finally were seated the staff was not friendly and the pizza was average. Do not recommend.

Ate at Grimaldi's at La Cantera Mall in San Antonio. What can I say - it is always a pleasure eating at this place, where it is in Dallas or San Antonio.

We waited an hour for nothing. They started going table by table letting us know our pizza hadn't even been put in the oven. We arrived at 4:30 & hardly anyone was in the restaurant. They did focus on all the to go orders instead of us sitting in the restaurant. Awful!!

The pizza is by far the best pizza outside of NYC! The service at the location was excellent for a Saturday night. Be prepared to wait for a table.

Food was good, service was great. Really liked the pesto pizza. The wine selection was pretty extensive too. The antipasto was a little blah. I wouldn't order it again.

It was nearly 50 years ago when my wife and I had our first pizza in Greenwich Village, New York. We were convinced that it was the only area in the United States for "real pizza." Since we moved to San Antonio six years ago, we tried several local pizzerias, but only one measured up: Grimaldi's. We have visited the place now probably half a dozen times, what impressed us most is the consistently good pizza and the good and fast service. Our favorite is the traditional pepperoni and cheese pie and we always order a large pizza for the two of us making sure that we have enough to take home with us for the next day snack. Yesterday we visited Grimaldi's again, and there were no surprises, only a good pizza. Highly recommend for tourists as well as locals.

Best choice is Pesto with roasted garlic and sun dried tomatoes. Thin and crisp... Amazing. Ambiance is very nice and very friendly servers. Will go back more often, with family, friends and co-workers.

We were so happy to find Grimaldi's while visiting San Antonio. This place did not disappoint. The drinks and pizza was good. Service was good to. Would receommend.

Server gave us attention but a 12” pizza took almost 40 minutes to get. Very little toppings. Not a New York minute as advertised on their menu.

Good pizzas, but never order a split pizza as you will be surprised with the extra charges. They charge the full price of the highest + full price for individual different ingredients of the other half pizza, at the end we paid $39 for a 18" pizza that should be $30 max. Bad and unfair policy to pricing split pizzas

We had lunch! Oh wow did we ever! I arrived a bit earlier than the rest of the family... I started with the House red wine. It was served in a sweet little carafe and was delicious. My server was super sweet. She never stopped smiling, and was helpful ordering appetizers and pizza. We started with the Bruschetta Trio. It was crisp and delicious. The two pizzas we ordered were fabulous. Hands down great crust. The white sauce on the one pizza was amazing. We all agreed that we would eat it alone. Great time. We will be back!

This is the best pizza ever. He REALLY likes Grimaldi's pizza. It's got this crisp, but gooey thing going on and the crust is puffy and amazing. The cheese is legit mozzarella with fresh toppings. I am constantly in search of a good, better, best pizza, and I'd have to say Grimaldi's is up there. We waited a while for our table, but it was Saturday night at 7 pm. So, we played at the Teavana next door and the Z Gallerie next to that until we got our text. 25 minutes to the nose. Our server was nice, prompt, and accurate. No complaints. I'm sure we'll be back in anxious anticipation.
Best pizza in SA
Whenever I'm hungry for pizza, I choose Grimaldi's. I've tried other "great" pizza places recommended by friends, but their pizzas just don't compare. Some hints: We used to ask for extra sauce but have found that it's not much different from the regular portion, so we save the money on this one. I only wish they wouldn't charge for ingredients on the whole pizza if you just want them on half. For instance, I love mushrooms on my pizza, but my husband does not. If I want to have them on my half, I have to pay for them on the whole pizza. I agree with another reviewer that wine nights make it even better. It's a great way to try out different wines and eat a great pizza. Occasionally, the pizza has come out a little more done than I prefer, and I've had to ask them to re-make it. Such is the chance you take with coal oven pizza. If you want a salad, definitely plan to share because they are huge! On the whole, my experiences have been great here. In fact, I think take-out is in order for tonight.
