On the recommendation of our hotel staff, we walked around the corner to this very unique breakfast spot. Great coffee, friendly service, and the pancakes were golden light, fluffy and tasty. Quite a broad menu and very reasonably priced!

I actually ate here twice. Authentic Cajun dishes, attractive prices. Very ample portions. Service is friendly and attentive, although things can be rushed at peak times, Nothing tony here, ambience is diner basic.

Decent and doable but a tad on the dirty side. Service was inattentive. Forgot multiple items. Food items came out warm versus hot and freshly made. Waffles are Waffle House styled, flat and round. Pork Sausage Patty was inedible. Not Housemade, which I expected. Whatever brand is used is plain and too salty, rendering them inedible. Sourdough toast came burned. Again, inedible. Everyone's eggs came warm. One scrambled came overcooked and browned versus yellow. The Sunnyside Up eggs were beautiful. Didn't receive the drinks or sides, even after being reminded. Staff seemed to be overwhelmed. Initially, upon arrival at the table, the seats were dirty. We asked for them to be cleaned, which was done. We then asked for the table to be wiped because it appeared as if there was a dry coffee spill, which it was but only underneath their top covered glass. The person who wiped stated, this just is a very dirty restaurant. WHO SAYS THAT to customers?!?! Didn't make us feel at ease. Overall, the entire experience and food was offputting. We're 1 and done.

We stopped for breakfast at 8am on a Saturday. Our server was attentive and took time to explain the menu and offer suggestions. They have traditional breakfast fare but also have items less traditional for someone like me, from the Midwest. We opted for uptown shrimp and grits and catfish with a side of sunny side up eggs and fried grits. Everything we ordered was delicious and visually appealing. I would go back in a heartbeat. Aside from the food the space is decorated with original artwork that was fun to take in while eating.

The vibe is so chill and the music takes you back between classic R & B, soul, and classic hip hop. The Uptown Shrimp n Grits were everything! The beignets were so good I nearly cried ðŸ˜

Our party of 7 ate here all 3 mornings that we were in Portland. It was that good! The service and food were impeccable. Favorites were the Downtown Grits, Country Boy, their hash, French toast and grits. Highly recommend.

We stopped in for breakfast and we had such an amazing meal! You wonder how much better can someone make pancakes and omelettes? We’ll the cook has some kind of amazing skills because I am here to tell you that our meal was absolutely delicious! The coffee was great, the service quick and courteous and the food was fairly priced. Make this a stop when you are in Portland! Fabulous! You will not regret it!

If you love breakfast, bring your appetite to Grits 'n Gravy. Delish! My husband would very much recommend the fried grits patties and gravy. We were here for a visit, if I lived local we would be here often.

First morning in Portland and we decided to try this place. I had the Big D Special. It was four eggs, potatoes, ham, sausage and bacon. Had a choice of toast or biscuits. I chose biscuits. My food was exceptional. My wife had the bacon waffle which she loved. Go early because the place is not very big. Service was fantastic. Going again before I leave town on Thursday.

My wife and I had breakfast at Grits N Gravy on our first morning in Portland. We could not have made a better choice for a spot with excellent food and service at a fantastic price. An extensive menu provides something for everyone, but don't expect "healthy" options. You want to visit Grits N Gravy because you want a fantastic southern style breakfast meal. Our server, Craig, was friendly, knowledgeable, and quick. All service was incredible, but the star of the place is the food. We enjoyed one traditional eggs and bacon meal as well as a biscuits and gravy, sausage, and eggs meal. The food was so good that I would list the meal as one of the best I've had...ever. Great place and highly recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed the food and service. You will have to try the gumbo. You only need to order one meal for a couple, and you will still take food home

Brunch at this restaurant was beyond incredible. The set up is unique and comes alive once you set foot inside I didn’t want to leave. The vibes were a breath of fresh air. Our server whose name I can’t remember a Hispanic guy was hilarious and made our brunch so much more fun and enjoyable. I wish I could remember his name. He has outstanding customer service The food came out after a brief wait. My husband had his eggs over easy with sausage. I had an omelette with toast. Mouthwatering good. I can’t wait to visit Portland again. I would definitely eat there again. What a treasure

I visited recently with my family for breakfast and was not disappointed. Fast and friendly service, good coffee, and delicious food. The biscuits were especially good. My son was in paradise with his wings and waffles. We would 100% eat here again.

I came here with a group of friends while visiting Portland. It'd been a long time since I'd had southern breakfast since I don't get much of that where I'm from. The restaurant was able to accommodate us fine. I liked the decor and the atmosphere felt good. Unfortunately I wasn't well that day and couldn't eat most of the meal I'd ordered (scrambled eggs, sausage, sourdough toast) but what I did I mostly liked. I didn't know the toast was fried and not toasted, and while I am usually OK with that, dietary restrictions meant I couldn't enjoy it. I also had an issue with there only being a single toilet in the entire restaurant. With that much seating it should have at least two. Everyone else really loved their meal so I'm giving this a high rating because of the enjoyment we all had of the experience.

Friendliest service and so many delicious menu options for meat eaters and vegetarians. The atmosphere is relaxed and portions are large. We loved everything we ordered but the biscuits are the best around and the tomato sauce (served on the side with meatloaf) is so delicious we put it on other foods too. Fried grits are so good!

This was across the street from the hotel . It was very nice and had a southern feel. It took a long time for the waiter to take order and get food. Food was hot, good and a lot. Share if you can they give you a lot and was cheapest place on whole trip to eat.

Found this place and decided to check it out. Was super impressed with the pancakes, eggs, and bacon. The coffee was some of the best I've ever had!! Would come back for sure. The restaurant isn't huge and we had to wait about 10 minutes, but well worth it! I'd wait longer than that next time. Don't hesitate to check this place out!!!
Great grits, good service
I was alone and was seated immediately in a comfy booth/table with chairs. Quick service. Grits were indeed delicious, as was the French toast. Server was very friendly and professional; location was convenient, close to hotels and about 3 blocks from Pioneer Square. I wish they offered more coffee options, but it is a minor gripe.
