Our Favorite! Celiac SAFE and as two chefs...Super delicious memorable food...wonderful beers....always take home beers and when possible a Fried Chicken Dinner....Watch out KFC this is the safe and delicious place to be....worth the hour and a half drive to Portland...

We scheduled a trip to Portland just to come here, and it did not disappoint. If you are gluten free, you might cry tears of joy in being able to order ANYTHING you want. I had the full flight sampler of beer, all of which were amazing. We had the fish tacos and Rueben (yes a Rueben!!!), both of which were fantastic. Our server wasn’t the most outgoing, but she took care of us. Another server (or maybe she was a runner or another position) helped us too, and she as super nice. We arrived at about 6 on a Friday night and were sat right away. It never got too busy while we were there, which was surprising considering how great everything was.

The pizza crust was gummy. Not only were our bean dishes salty... the salad was salty! Ugh! And our waitress, although nice, messed up our order.

Second time visit while we are Portland. Great beer and good food, all gluten-free. Love it. Highly recommend, check it out.

I wish I had given this restaurant a miss. The appetizer of bread and olive oil was not tasty. The bread had that gf kind of taste and the olive oil was odd. I ordered pizza which came with a side salad. The pizza was bland. The salad was coated in olive oil and so salty. I couldn't eat it. I could actually see the salt and was able to pick a few pieces off the lettuce!

Everything in the menu is gluten free,; the food, the beer, everything. And the net is very good. Their menu has a wide variety of choices including a Cuban sandwich and a nice NY Strip.

I had a $12 vegan soup that was basically a nice broth with broccoli. (Nice, but not much.) My husband had a chicken and dumpling soup that was delicious, but still overpriced at $13. A good menu if you’re gluten-free (we aren’t) —and to be fair, we didn’t sample a lot of the menu. But given the slow service and just “okay” ambience, I wouldn’t want to pay $30 for one of the more substantial options. If you need a gluten free meal, give it a try. But $12 for broth and vegetables...

If you weren't told, you'd never guess this place served exclusively gluten free fare. Everything was delicious, the beer, the burger (and the bun!), the cornbread with greens and beans (our favorite of all the apps we sampled), the chicken and dumpling soup, ALL of it was sooo good. Our waiter was pleasant, answered all our questions, and was attentive without hovering.

Agree with other reviews; have family members with Celiac, mostly cook GF, family very picky and they were VERY happy with the food here. Reuben sandwich, salads, husband had the steak and was VERY happy with it (he doesn't eat that much GF), dessert was fantastic (house-made GF shortbread with fruit I think was rhubarb). Family was impressed with the beer, hard to find good GF beer! A few things I thought were overpriced, but then a few things I thought were a screaming deal for what you get, so it balances out. The menu is fairly limited. We've been here twice; second time was with about 10 guests for a birthday dinner. We had vegans, vegetarians, children with GF and dairy-free requirements; regular carnivores. Everyone loved it. Aside from the fantastic food here, I cannot stress enough the SERVICE. They will kindly accommodate custom requests, and that's not easy. Portland is not known for excellent service in my opinion, and this place far excels others. Compliments to the owners and staff. The one thing we were wondering was how long they will be able to stay in this location before they need to move to larger quarters. Kind of reminds me of Screen Door. In a good way.

We tried a few gluten free beers and ordered the chicken dumpling soup. The soup was delicious! Our waiter was really nice and gave me teeny tastes of two beers so I could decide what to order. It was nice to go to a place that is entirely gf for a change. We walked to the gastropub from our hotel across the river. It was easy to find but is definitely in an obscure, industrial'ish part of Portland. I thought it was a bit lacking in ambience. Maybe at lunch time or on a weekend, it would have a more exciting vibe,

This place was awesome and I was so excited to find a gf facility! The food was excellent- we got the cheese plate, brisket sandwich, kids Mac n cheese, and kids cheeseburger. The beer was outstanding! We did the 8 beer flight to try most of the beer and wound up leaving with a growler! Great food, beer, and environment.

What a treat for gluten free diner. The food and beer was fabulous and I did not have to worry about what was in it. Everything was "homemade" and my wife love it too and she is not gluten free.

I was visiting Portland with my celiac mom in tow and a friend recommended Ground Breaker. We came for dinner our first night in town... and ended up coming back almost every day of our trip! Their burger is the best burger I've ever had anywhere (gluten-free or otherwise), and a tasting flight of beer was not only delicious but entertaining -- so many different flavors and little stories to read (Game of Thrones beer FTW!). Everything we tried off the menu was very, very good -- my mom hadn't had fried chicken in *years* because of her gluten allergy and so was nearly in tears, she was so happy. Whether you need to eat gluten free or just want a fantastic meal, don't miss Ground Breaker if you're in PDX.

I had the fried chicken over rice and other things with buttermilk sauce - to die for! It was crispier and more delicious than any fried chicken I've ever had, gluten free or gluteny! The beer sampler I had was a magical dream - all super delicious. I will go ahead and say these are the best gluten free beers I have tasted in a while. What a variety! And super inexpensive too. I couldn't ask for anything more, except that you expand and open a joint in Vancouver BC please. I may actually have to move to Portland to be closer to this place. Hope you guys are in business forever. #1 fan.

Always friendly with great selection of 100% gluten-free food and beer. I've been going for years and have friends who come to town and ONLY want to eat here. Yes, it is 100% gluten-free. No gluten allowed anywhere on the premises. AND it is delicious. Love Chef Neil's cooking and the innovative, award-winning beers that come out of the brewery. Thank heavens for this place!

Large section of beers/ales. the pale ale I select was the best GF brew I ever tasted. I opted for the burger which paired well with the ale. the bun was excellent, burger was cooked as ordered, very tasty. finished with cookies and ice cream. These were great as well. the place is very casual, the staff very friendly as well as helpful.

From your beverage to your sandwich or other entrees, everything is gluten free. I love the small touches of pickled onions, tomato preserves and sauerkraut that can accompany your meal. If you get a chance to try the Orange Cream Soda, it is so good. We haven't had anything that we didn't like there.

I highly recommend this restaurant and brew pub for the gluten free people! Although the menu isn't huge it's ALL gluten free. I can't tell you how nice it was to not have to worry about what I was choosing or being stuck with a salad... again. So you're probably wondering what we had... my guy had beer... lots of beer. Their selection is an oasis in the desolation that is your gluten free beer options! He ordered two flights to maximize his sampling pleasure. I tasted every single one as well. I will tell you straight up I don't drink beer and NONE of them left me with that heinous skunky beer after taste. I enjoyed the fruity one best and the nitro version of #5. On to food... the cornbread is to die for. I was going to share but failed miserably. It was moist and wonderful. Seriously, you KNOW what I was expecting... not one crumble dropped unexpectedly to my lap. I was able to eat every honey soaked buttery bit. The greens that accompanied the cornbread were very good as well. My guy's aversion to green things assured I didn't have to share these either. I followed up with the smoked fish salad (I know... I should have ordered something not salady given all my choices, but it sounded so good). I wasn't disappointed either. Another home run! He had the burger. Although he doesn't have my gift for waxing eloquent about food, he assured me the bun wasn't too bready and was cooked slightly crispy. He enjoyed every bit! Finally desert! I had the chocolate chip cookie... because chocolate. He refrained... because, you know... beer! It was the perfect end to a great culinary experience. I included a picture of those awesome guys making it happen in the kitchen (along with my guy... see how happy this amazing meal and tasty beer made him? )

My wife and I were at henry's bar and grill and D, a hostess recommended Ground Breaker because she is Celiac as I am. I have to agree, the food was awesome, the beer was incredible. I have not had a beer in over 5 years and all the GF beers out there are ok but if you want a real beer, you have to come to Ground Breaker. I tried the Coco Nibs Dark Beer and I have to admit, it is by far the best beer I have ever tasted. The staff is extremely friendly, the food is Epic and the ambiance is spectacular, nothing pretentious about this place. A real restaurant with real food and real people serving you. The way restaurants should be. Thank you for this awesome experience.

Ground Breaker beers come in a variety of IBUs (from super hoppy to nice and smooth) and, my gluten-loving friends say, are great beers. I'm very allergic to gluten, so when I heard about GB's gastropub, I was excited. The fact that the beer is excellent pairs nicely with the fact that I can have anything in the restaurant as they prepare all their high-quality meals without the use of gluten-based ingredients. Bottom line: if you GF, you're craving a beer, and want good food to go with it, GBG is the perfect place!

Chanced upon this for a surprise for my GF partner. Easy to find and parking was great. We were surprised how busy it was for 5.30 pm on a Saturday evening - tables inside and out were busy - always a good sign for a restaurant. We were seated promptly and offered menus - we ordered the IPA NO. 5 which was tasty and had a goody 'hoppy' flavor. The menu is quite varied - we had the pickles and Cheese & Charcuterie Plate - a little expensive, but good. We also had the Petrale fish tacos which were good. I would have preferred the fish a little more seasoned - The kids had the burgers with delicious beef patties - All in all a good evening out and a real gem for those who are gluten-intolerant. We will be back.

This all gluten free brewery is amazing. They have great food and they brew some awesome beer. A great place to sit and enjoy some conversation with friends or just a solo peace time.

Went to Ground Breaker Gastropub with my son (who must avoid gluten foods) and daughter-in-law. I got a Rueben sandwich, my son got the hamburger and his wife got some kind of crab soup. The crab soup was OK but certainly no worth $16. The hamburger was very tasty and the gluten-free bun was good also. My Rueben on gluten-free rye was just edible. The bread was dry and very heavy, the corned beef was well done and a bit dry. Had to order extra thousand island dressing. The best part of the meals was the craft beer. Really, really tasty beer! Perhaps to someone who must be on a gluten-free diet the food is delicious?

Ground Breaker GastroPub (recently re-named from Harvester) is a gluten-free restaurant that's part of Ground Breaker Brewery which is also dedicated gluten-free. Both the drinks and the food were fantastic, and we'll visit it again on our next trip to Portland. The beer flights gave us a great overview of both year-round and taproom exclusive beers. Their Dark Ale took home a Gold from The Great American Beer Festival 2014, and it's easy to see why! The room is casual and cozy, and menu was well-rounded and had many seasonal and local options. Service was friendly and attentive.

Best fried chicken GF we've seen. Really good. Nice chill environment. Don't let the reviews fool you. Lots of veggies and slaw here. And - where else do you find 8 in house brewed GF beers on tap. We will be back!

This place, all gluten-free and also balanced between vegan options and animal protein options hits a home run. It's sorta like being in someone's dining room who makes good solid "cook food" rather than "chef's artwork". It is unpretentious, emphasis being on producing the end result of flavor and gluten-free dishes. The staff was love-ably dorky...they mixed up EVERY single order and then quickly rearranged the plates with self-deprecating humor and grace. Friendly, and hep in a good way, DEFINITELY not "hip". The beer was good too. I recommend this place as a fab alternative if you need to be gluten free.

I am hardly disappointed visiting the breweries around Portland so this was just another pleasant, fun visit. Good food and taster tray options. Good visit after a long bike ride in and around the city.

Great Cubano and Reuben sandwiches; very good buns and lots of flavor. My non-GF husband said that the beers are some of the best in the Pacific Northwest, and he didn't include the usual GF qualifier. I agree! Go there and support a really well thought out business.

This place was AMAZING!! To be able to visit a complete GF establishment is awesome!! From the food to the BEER it is totally GF!! First time I've been able to do a beer "flight" sampler since being GF!! It was like I was back in a former life, wow!! The server was great also!! Had to visit TWICE on our trip, you MUST go!!

Are you a Celiac or gluten intolerant? Groundbreaker is one of the very first gluten free breweries in the nation. They produce a rotation of outstanding brews that rival the "standards". Food? the chef, Neal, and his crew put together amazing meals and sandwiches that are all scrumptious . Friendly staff in a homey atmosphere make your time there enjoyable. This is a place where my wife and I are regulars; she feels absolutely safe and I never resist a prompt from her to "let's go to Groundbreaker.

Gluten free--yes it is. Would you know, not so much. Beer is brewed with love and imagination. With good results. Enjoyed the Saison bunches. The Cobb salad was excellent as was the Chicken dumpling chowder. Fresh greens with yummy dressing, but the soup was the star. The dumplings are little guys in the soup vs being on top. Small bite size--lots of chicken too. Great broth. Go--eat--drink, in any order you prefer!

Busy, but not crazy. Gluten-free beer. And a reuben sandwich! A rare treat when you generally eat meat and vegetables. Service very attentive. A go-to place that I wish we would think of more often.

More than 1 kind of gluten free beer, actually over a half dozen gluten free beers on tap along with all manner of gluten free food even sandwiches on good gluten free bread. I wish they closer to home.

If you are looking for gluten free, this is for you. We had a tasting tray of beer and then ordered our favorites. Small food menu but we ordered a snack. Local vegetables, cheeses and breads. All very good! Great staff and great beer!

WOW! I haven’t had a beer since being diagnosed with being gluten intolerant, so this was a wonderful find! What I really liked about this place I could taste many of their beers to pick the one I enjoyed the most. And I was able to buy a six pack of my favorite. The entire family found the Mexican food that we ordered from their associated food menu. And so how can you beat a totally delicious gluten free brewery!

My wife is gluten free and we had dinner at Ground Breaker on a vacation in Portland after someone we met there suggested it. It was remarkable. My wife was in heaven, trying things that she never thought she could have, ALL gluten free: fried chicken, cheddar bacon biscuits, BREAD pudding (?!) and even a flight of beer. That's gluten free beer. We were both speechless at how good it all was. I think the fried chicken brought her to tears. It all tasted very good and normal; you'd never know it was all gluten free. The beer especially had me dumbfounded. How do you make gluten free beer? IPAs? Stouts? They were some of the best beers I had in Portland, and that is saying something. If you are gluten free or know someone who is gluten free, you have to try Ground Breaker Gastropub. I'm not gluten free myself but even I would say this is one of the best meals I've ever had. And my wife was beyond happy after the meal was done. We'll definitely be back!

Highlights: Rotating Menu, Rotating Brews, Award Winning Brews always on tap, Easily Accessible, Tons of Street Parking, Prices Match Quality and Service, Same Staff since we've been going, Very Friendly and Knowledgeable, Carnivore and Vegetarian options Always, and did I mention EVERYTHING is gluten free!! vv Burying the Cons vv "Cons": Took some mid-western friends here who are straight meat eaters and not on any gluten restrictions. The male was sticker shocked by the "small" portions. The female liked it, but was not overly impressed. Took another Carnivore non-gluten restricted friend there, and they loved it and wants to go back when in town! It all depends on the willingness to eat outside of the comfort zone and experience.

I am not a gluten intolerant/free person but my sister-in-law is. So when we eat out (rarely) it has to be a gluten-free place. I was pleasantly surprised! Food was very good and their ice tea was delicious! I would dine here again on my own.

Gluten free or not, you have to try this place! I came in and I do in fact eat gluten free. I tried the 8 beer sampler and had the Cuban sandwich. The sandwich tasted like they make their own mustard and the meat is fresh! I enjoyed the St. Denny Dubbel the best. The staff is friendly and I would recommend this to ANYONE. Well done!

Wanted fried chicken bowl as on website but menu only saud Wednesday to Friday at lunch. Came too early on sunday for 4pm fried chicken. Settled on pizza. Gluten free crust was too plain. It needed to have some additional leavening agent to give it some fluffiness. Beers were good for gluten free. Staff was nice all of ones we saw.

My family and I stopped to eat here on Wednesday November 11th and were able to enjoy the Wednesday Supper. The "large plate" is more average size and the "small plate" is definitely small but good. If you get the small plate you will definitely want dessert as well. All of the beers were great and you would never know they were gluten-free. I hope to visit another time when I can try the full dinner menu.

My wife is gluten free, and I wanted to surprise her on a recent trip to Portland with a stop at GB. The beer sampler was awesome, but the food was even better. The 100% gf fried chicken was up there with any other fried chicken I have ever tasted.

Really liked their beer! We got a tasting tray of 4. My favorite was the Olallie. If you want a tour just ask! Full Gluten Free menu!

If I were rating based on gluten free needs, it would be a 4. Because I am not gluten free and there are so many other breweries, it gets 3 stars. It is a completely gluten free restaurant and brewery. The beers were different but not bad. There's a variety to choose from, so if you like beer there should be something for you. The menu was pretty diverse, though we didn't try any food. They also have a kids' menu.

The food is all gluten-free and delicious although not your typical bar food which I appreciate. The GF beer is incredible and the service is friendly and knowledgeable. Give it a try!!!

Our experience here was top notch. Having food restrictions in a group can be really hard to navigate when in a new city, and trying to just grab some lunch. We were welcomed warmly and seated immediately. The homemade anise soda was incredible (unique and special) and we all got cubanos. For having only one celiac in the group, all the others LOVED their sandwiches and their beers. They modified some for the dairy free folks among us and no one missed out or got sick. Thank you for such a great experience!

I came here with coworkers and was overdressed based on their description of this place. Yes, everything is gluten free. No, I didn't try any of the beers. I had a burger, and while it was very good, I felt hungry pretty quickly afterwards. I also got a slice of pie, and it was like eating a bit of cardboard with a dollop of cardboard on top. Turns out it was a vegan dessert, coworkers wife is a chef and said I probably didn't like it because it didn't have milk fat in it. I'm pretty sure I didn't like it because it just wasn't good. I have a handful of gluten free friends and I'd go here with them, but otherwise not for me.

Really wanted to go for dinner, but didn't realize they were closed on Monday. SO- we went there for an afternoon of tasting. Loved the inventiveness of the brewmaster. GF beer isn't easy and we found some that were definitely drinkable!

An entire brewery and restaurant dedicated to GF only! My husband loved all of the beer they had to offer and was able to drink certain beer he hasn't been able to in years. I actually enjoyed a few of them myself for not being GF. Good IPA. Great GF fried chicken! If you want to see the brew tour make sure you set up an appointment.

Extremely unfriendly staff. Member of group parked bike in front of brewery waiting for them to open and was harassed across the street by the staff member for parking there before they opened. Staff member even tried to shake and move the bike. Group wanted to visit, but won't be back after this experience.

Wow. I am in awe at how well gluten free is done in Portland. This spot is amazing because there are 9 beers on tap to choose from, and I can have any one of them! The food was GF and delicious, too! Definitely stop here for your gluten free beer needs.

I stopped by here for a flight but honestly was a bit leery to do so because their MO is gluten-free...which isn't normally the best way to produce drinkable beer. Still, they nailed it on a few of their brews. I really liked the St. Denny Dubbel (Belgian-style ale), Pale Ale (American-style), IPA No. 5 (American-style), and especially Mosaic IPA (dry-hopped IPA No. 5). Service was great, too. Highly recommend whether you're GF or not.

I ordered a beer and my wife ordered iced tea. They weren't that busy in there. About 25 minutes later I got my beer. We had to flag the guy down. Yes, he had forgotten to bring the lemonade for my wife. Another 10 minutes before lunch arrived. I liked my Gluten Fee lunch. I have Celiac disease. My wife liked her lemonade but was less thrilled about her chicken. It was an hour before we got out of there. That's a long time, and it's not because they were that busy. We were tourists with other things to do that day. $43.50. Expensive for lunch, we thought.

A little confusing at first as it is two businesses operating out of one location so you order your food from one person and your beer from another. The beer was just fine as it is in most brew-pubs but the fish and chips was simply the best I've had in 60 years mostly futile searching for good fish and chips. Who would have thought I'd find them in a gluten-free cafe. Only problem is that they maintain they can't find a gluten-free malt vinegar, so my next trip, I'll bring my own.

Hands down best gf beer I've had. My husband who is not gf also likes their beer. The food was good, the beer was delish, and the staff was very friendly.

Want a burger, but concerned about consequences? Ground Breaker managed to make healthy food delicious. We all very very impressed, both by the taste and quality of their healthy burgers, and by inventiveness of the chef. Burgers are served with ... dried and fried kale leaves instead of fries. Kid's burger comes with dried apple crisps. And that wonderful food comes at the prices of regular, not high-end restaurants. Wish I could taste beer, but this was our stop on the way to OMSI and other attractions. Pub interior is fresh, clean and decorated in a northwestern style - lots of long finely grained wood. Staff evidently does their work with pride in what they do, it shows in their demeanor, and their immaculate dress and hairstyles. This produces an impression of real hospitality, not of being served. Hint - street parking is tight, but you can park at a lot next to the pub, though you can find about this from the menu only.

Amazing food and beer! Friendly and quick service. Food was really good. Soooo many beers to choose from, my coeliac husband couldn't pick. They do taste size measures so you can try all 9 beers on tap. Which is great. Highly recommend

Super friendly staff, good eats, tasty brews (and other beverages). Simply put - this is a gluten free heaven and I was ecstatic to dine here. They get their GF bread from a local bakery down the street and it's delicious. I highly recommend this place for GF and non-GF folks. P.S. Super family and kid friendly.

This place is very casual, so no need to dress up. For a real beer connoisseur this is not the place, but I am sure all the gluten free beers make the no gluten fans happy. There a quite some exotic concoctions available. The food however is a different matter. Certainly no gluten anywhere but most of the portions leave people still hungry. The dishes are made with wonderful fresh ingredients, however expect missing items on your plate, which are on the menu.

My husband and I loved trying the 9 glass tasters. So much fun to once again be able to sample more than 1 gf beer. I had the Cubano so tasty and came with a lightly dressed slaw. My husband had the brisket and raved to the server how delicious it was. Apparently it is made in house using good quality meat. We took some cans of our favorites home with us. Also their apple gratin dessert paired with the nitro dark ale. Service was excellent.

My family is GF and this is our go to spot for weekend lunch / dinner. Whether you are GF or not - the food and beers are exceptional and really well priced. The chef is extremely talented and worked at French Laundry in Napa. The people who work here are super nice and always helpful. Chocolate chip cookies and Cubano and Ruben sandwiches (when on the menu) are a must.

I truly love this place. Their beer is great, their food is wonderful, and the staff is super friendly. Hands down, the Cubano is a great sandwich. It's like a grilled cheese bliss with tasty ham and spicey mustard. Their pickled veggies are also super tasty. Their dark beer is the best! Definitely give this place a shot, it doesn't taste gluten free and is perfect for those celiacs like me who have friends that are gluten eaters. Win win for all.

My wife has celiac and has not had a great gluten-free beer since our visit to the Czech Republic. The Ground Breaker Gastropub Brewery has great beer. We especially like their IPA. Plus, the food was fabulous. Best Ruben Sandwich ever. Thank you. We highly recommend this pub.

It was so nice to go to a restaurant where my husband knew that he could order anything off the menu without the fear of getting extremely ill! The beer was delicious! The food exceeded expectations! The staff was very friendly! We would go back here in a heartbeat! It was like a safe haven in the middle of the city!

My daughter twisted my arm to visit Ground Breaker as they are unique in their gluten free beers. I must say I was impressed - the barman was a great source of knowledge about the various microbrews and their history. Would definitively go back. BTW - the parking is nowhere near as bad as you'd suspect from the Google Map.
Can't rave enough about this place!
I love love love Ground breaker! They have wonderful gf beer options, highly recommend the Valencia coffee pale ale. Went on a Wednesday and had their 'Wednesday Supper' menu. We ate potato pancakes, bruschetta plate, and venison over potato gnocchi and brussel sprouts cooked to perfection. Left with a growlette and full and happy. Even if you aren't GF you need to visit this gem!
