I've had a difficult time finding good dumplings or din sum in Atlanta. Reminds me of the authentic dumplings and noodles I've gotten in Canada and overseas, will be back soon! Ordered online, super easy and they had order ready at time promised :)

I have eaten here many times and generally love this restaurant and would normally give it 5 stars. But, this time I was greatly disappointed in one of the dishes we ordered. I am a fan of Kung Pao Chicken and have ordered it all over the world, including China. The menu stated dried red chili peppers were in it. That is what I love. They had ZERO red chili peppers in it. Will never order this dish at Gu's again I even asked when I ordered it to put lot's of red chili peppers in it. Rest of meal was the usual great szechuan food they are known for. I guess Kubg Pao chicken is strictly a Cantonese dish.

I absolutely love spicy food, so I was excited to try this place. Gu's Kitchen has a varied menu and I've tried the Szechuan spicy fried rice, dumplings, Chengdu Cold Noodles, chicken po'boy, and chicken hotpot noodles. My favorites were Szechuan spicy fried rice and the dumplings. Everything else was average. There were definitely kicks to the dishes, but the spiciness just wasn't flavorful.

Upon our 1st visit, I did not know what to expect. The fiery flavor and peppercorns were a welcome surprise. So far I have tried the Szechuan Beef Noodles, spicy with some beef and a lot of broth; Spicy Crispy Fish, expertly prepared big portion battered fried fish with balanced seasoning; Szechuan Tofu Po'Boy, my favorite which is probably the best in Atlanta; and White Rice, yes unfortunately some places actually mess up steamed rice but not Gu's. On my next visit, I hope to try the Dan Dan Noodles, vegetable Dumplings, Szechuan Potato Wedges and Luo Jiang Dried Tofu.

Lets just get it out of the way...food is still very good and tasty but the new concept does not work for me. You order and pay just inside the door. Even tips are expected to be added to the total bill before service is rendered. MISTAKE.We ordered soup, dumplings, rice, noddle bowl and General Tso Chicken and 2 drinks ($58 total). We sat down and within 4 minutes EVERYTHING arrived at the 2 top table. Totally covering the table with food. No room to move.As we enjoyed the soup other items got cold and dishes were not removed or more soda.offered. We finished, got up and left and nobody bothered to say Goodbye. Am I going back...not likely. GU;s Bistro was the best...this may be more profitable, but you just lost a customer.

Had to try this after son’s rave review. We ordered beef, chicken and pork! It was all amazing! Waitress was super friendly!

We are favored who live near Buford Hwy in Chamblee by the Szechuan Gods'. Gu's has opened in an old standby favorite mall in a very light filled friendly cafe, so we don't have to trek down to Krog St. to find this fabulous food.. The menu runs the gambit from white rice to a mouth numbing 4 pepper spicy fried rice. Present are many vegan dishes identified as such. Though this is not an Americanized Chinese spot, the spin which Gu puts on standby favorites such as Ma Po Tofu and Spicy string beans leans toward the authentic. Known for his dumplings which are very flavorful, you can find superb Dan Dan noodles, both cold and hot, thick and thin noodles with varying degrees of heat. Don't worry, there are plenty of entree's with very little spice. Lunch specials are served until 4PM and they even have po- boy sandwiches but with a smart twist. You can buy their Dumpling sauce and chili sauces by the bottle. They liberally use their numbing Szechuan spicy powder on their eggplant and other delights. This hot spot is closed on Monday so wait until Tuesday to put the feed bag on.

Good food but expensive for what it is. You do take out now. The food here is quite spicy so ask for mild if you do not like spice

Unique Szechuan restaurant on Buford Highway. Small but very clean and bright. Order at the register and the food is brought to the table by friendly staff. The food coming out looked so enticing we ended up ordering 4 dishes even though there were only 2 of us. Got the Chengdu Noodles, The Thick Noodles, dumplings and the battered spicy fries. Loved the Noodles and dumplings, liked the fries. All affordable. Looking forward to going back to explore more of the menu.

I have now visited two separate Gu's. First, the Gu's Dumplings at Halcyon off 400 North, which is a food court operation. Second, the main location, Gu's Kitchen on Buford Highway. Both are uncommonly good. The food court operation has a more limited menu, but the red chili oil dumplings were equally great at both locations. I also ordered Kung Pao Chicken at both locations, and surprisingly, they were different. I actually preferred the dish I was served at the food court location, as it was more interesting, hotter with stronger Sichuan peppercorn flavors. The Kung Pao at Gu's Kitchen was very good, but not as unique. However, I must say the Spicy Fried Fish at Gu's Kitchen is truly spectacular. It is without question the best fried fish that we have ever found in Atlanta--as good as it gets. I look forward to returning to both locations, and intend to try Dan Dan Noodles and General Tsao's Chicken, though the dumplings will always be a must, and so too, the fish. Prices seem a tad high, but the quantities are large. We have long loved Canton Cooks in Sandy Springs, but they are different and both hold a place on our "rota."

Ordered 1 chili chicken. I'd had it in the past and enjoyed it but this was dry, tasteless and peppers we're not cut down. Ended up throwing it away. Not going back.

Simply amazing... while the atmosphere is “different” and casual, the food is just delicious. Best dumplings, incredible noodles, vegetables to die for... and more! Recently returned to Atlanta from South Carolina were removed and made Gu’s my first stop

We loved our lunch! The dumplings are (still) great and we enjoyed the spicy beef noodles and the chicken po-boy! We'll be back!

While Gu's it known for its dumplings, I personally find that among their least exciting dishes. Their fried fish w/ Asian spices is amazing - hot, super crispy, and sprinkled w/ delish spices. for $16, it is more than enough for 2 people. The cold noodles are also fantastic. I don't eat meat, so I'm sure there are lots of other great dishes that I have not tried, but the people at surrounding tables always look very happy with. The staff is very nice, but try to go when they are not busy. This means earlier in the day on weekends. When we have gone at 3-5pm for a lunch/dinner, the service is warm and friendly. At rush hour (6-8pm) they are just slinging food and trying to keep up. There is no décor; this is not a date place. Just great food at reasonable prices.

I have been to Gu’s twice in the last two weeks - it’s that good! I have tried the pork dumplings, Chengdu cold noodles (the ones that look like they’re floating over the bowl), veggie spring rolls, spicy dried eggplant and the chicken po boy. I would get all again, though the spring roll wasn’t amazing. The spicy dried eggplant isn’t THAT spicy; it has those Szechuan peppercorns and I LOVE it! I warmed some leftover eggplant in a pan and served them with scrambled eggs for breakfast - delish!

First time experience was excellent. In small shopping center on Buford Highway, good parking, clean, and easy to find. Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable, which was important on our first visit. We has Hot and Sour soup which was great with lots of veggies noodles and meat. The Chicken and Broccoli with Cilantro was excellent and just spicy enough. We were extremely pleased and are looking forward to going back and trying something else. Note: some dishes are enough for two.

An interesting place. Well lighted, clean and not too loud. Table service but you order at the counter. There are specials as well as a menu. The “heat” can be adjusted to your taste.

Very rough and ready ambience Good food though. Don’t go if you are looking for the ambience. Good is served very fast. Literally in and out in 30 minutes. Not a place where you can just sit and chill. It’s got a fast food vibe but with excellent food

Gu’s is well-known in the Atlanta area and for good reason. All of their food is excellent but their dumplings, which made them “famous” are why I go. The noodles are the second best option, but those dumplings are divine. Pork or vegetable, with no heat or three different levels spiciness. A sauce that is drinkable. Everyone should try these.

We recently ate here. Although the ambiance is nothing to write home about - more like a fast food restaurant, but the food was delicious. We ate their mapo tofu (made vegetarian), Szechuan French fries and Szechuan green beans. Everything was delicious and their portions are huge!

I’ve been reading a lot about Gu’s Kitchen new location on Buford Highway and with the weather not the best for any outdoor activities, I decided to give it a try. When I arrived, there was a dragon festival commemorating the beginning of the Lunar New Year and it set the stage for the festive culinary events to follow. To the left of the of the entrance are two coolers filled with water, one plain and the other, lemon. I did not understand why they were there when I arrived, but would 15 minutes later. To the right is the first stop. You head to the register to order. The cashier was great about making recommendations, I wanted to order a lot, but we agreed to keep it small, an order of six dumplings and the handmade, thick noodles. You then pay, go to your table and wait. The food arrived in about 5 minutes. The dumplings are a must. You can choose from three fillings, pork, chicken or vegetables and pair it with one of the two sauces, I chose pork filling with the Zhong style, Gu’s award-winning famous sweet & spicy sauce. They were perfect in every way. Words cannot describe the silkiness of the wrappers, soft, succulent and added just a touch of flavor. The pork filling was delicious, not too much, not too little, and added great flavor, not fighting with the other ingredients. The sauce/oil was a variety of spicy, ranging from a 4 to a 6 on my scale, depending on each bite. Overall, these were probably the best dumplings I have ever eaten. The noodles are described on the menu as “Handmade thick chewy noodles with homemade sweet sauce and chili oil; sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds. One of the most famous street foods in Chengdu.” The noodles were thick and mounded in a bowl covered with a very similar spicy oil to the dumplings. I was a little concerned that they would be gummy, but I could not have been more wrong, they were soft and delicate throughout (I disagree with the “chewy” description). The sauce added the same level of spiciness as the dumplings, again, depending on the individual bite, it could range from moderate to noticeable kick of spiciness. In addition, the spiciness stays on the lips and mouth for a few minutes afterwards. Overall, Gu’s Kitchen should be a “must go to” on everyone’s list. I hate saying this since I need to also get back to try some of the other dishes.

Highly recommended. Great staff. Terrific and unusual for “white folks” like me who enjoy, but are not varied in our Asian food experiences. Be careful in choosing spice though. I asked for mild and got a bit more than mild. But GOOD. Cassie, who welcomes you and patiently explains the food options and the process of “order, then sit down”, is super. Also, location on Buford Hwy has the owner cooking. So it’s very well done. Do not miss the dried, fried eggplant! Or the cold noodles. Seating fills up fast.

We live in the area and only recently discovered Gu's Kitchen. This is a little different than most of the other Chinese eats. Szechuan is northern Chinese style. Can't wait to try more.

Attentive friendly service. Reasonable prices. Awesome presentation. I can’t wait to come back and explore more of the menu

We got a take out order; dumplings, noodles, eggplant (fried) with Basil. I don't eat spicy foods, but this choice was definitely not spicy. The eggplant was so tender and delicious..small pieces with fresh basil. The noodles were so good..nice and chewy! the dumplings were huge and delicious as well. Will have to go back there in the near future.

In Atlanta, all the buzz lately has been about Gu’s dumplings & noodles. Never visited their Krog Street location - luckily they’ve just reopened a location on Buford Hwy. It’s a very clean modern space - you order at counter as you enter. Lots of families & singles mingling at family style tables & a few tables for two. Service is prompt & friendly. Food is fabulous! Dumplings are light & perfectly spiced. We had the pork ones but I’d love to try them all. We had the DanDan noodles - loved it & was enough for two. We were advised to start with these two items & it was certainly enough for two hungry adults. Lots of other options / we’ll be back to try ALL of them.

After reading the reviews we were on the fence but ultimately decided to give Gu's a try - we were delighted with the outcome: the General Tso's was different and wonderful; the vegetable dumplings were delicious and the sauce was great - loved the crab rangoon and spring rolls. The order was correct for carry-out. While a little pricier than some other Chinese fare in the area, it is convenient to access for pick-up and the food was delicious. Definitely plan to return.
Glad they are back in the Buford Highway area!
Gu’s Kitchen provides very good Sichuan style cooking as well as their signature dumplings. We had a variety of dishes (dumplings, eggplant, noodles, tofu, lotus root, etc.) all of which were good. The dumplings and lotus root were exceptionally tasty. Some of the dishes were spicy, but none were overpowering. I used to frequent their old restaurant years ago and am glad they are back in the area!
