This is the newly opened brick and mortar version of a very popular Portland food cart specializing in Mexican tortas. New address is 200 NE 28th Ave, Portland, OR 97232 and the website is gueropdx.com. I had a $9 carnitas torta on a locally made roll. Large portion size ( a little too big for me... ) with juicy braised pork, avocado, beans, lettuce, tomato and house pickled red onion. Very delicious and, from a local foodie, one of the best sandwiches in Portland. Small menu with only a dozen or so items, but all are executed well. Mexican sodas, local craft beers, and a serious mezcal cocktail selection.

Friendly and noisy describes just about everything at Guero. The food is good and not terribly overpriced. The ambiance is informal, pleasant, if a bit frantic. The service is cheerful, but not overly attentive. Guero’s menu is relatively small and focused on tortas. The tortas are varied—one for almost any palate. The ingredient and flavor combinations are interesting and tasty. A couple of notes: the tortas don’t come with any sides; you need to order those separately. There is a kids’ menu, which is helpful for families. The restaurant is busy and, between the piped in music and acoustics, loud. You have to concentrate to have a conversation. Note: If you come with a large group, there’s a good chance that, to get seated, you’ll need to split your party up. The staff is very nice and accommodating (getting you something the menu may not quite call for). They’re just not very good at bringing you food and drinks. We ordered chips and guacamole to tide us over until the main meal came, but the chips and guacamole didn’t arrive until we had gotten our main dishes. We ordered one round of drinks, which arrived late and lukewarm, and then the server never returned to take another order.

Visiting our son in Portland for the weekend, stumbled upon this gem! So good, we each had a different torta, so delicious. The atmosphere was cool too. You won’t be disappointed.

If you are like me and enjoy finding the best and most flavorful restaurants and food carts at reasonable prices, place Guero on your list. I had the #1 Torta and loved it. I was skeptical about the very plain looking bread and what seemed like a thin layer of roasted pork, but one bite and I was in heaven!! The flavors are incredible! This sandwich just sings to you with each bite! My fiancé had the veggie bowl with avocado and it too was a masterpiece of flavor and texture. WE WILL BE BACK FOR MORE!!

The tortas were great, but the bowl was the best. One bowl could serve 2 people easily. The margaritas were great, as well.

We visited this restaurant last week with friends. The menu is simple but phenomenal. I highly recommend the Piña salad; it is spicy and delicious. They had vegetarian and omnivorous options as well as a variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. The vibe in this restaurant is relaxed and the bathrooms were super clean and cute. The beat thing is avocado is included in nearly everything! Coming from a town where you have to pay a dollar extra to add 2-3 measly slices to your meal, this was incredibly exiting. Please visit if you can, I promise you’ll enjoy it.

Ridiculously good food. Can’t get enough of it! The freshness and bites of these two are always surprising and completely satisfying. The sides are a must. Don’t miss the corn.

I can't understand all the great reviews. Our visit was a huge disappointment. Given Covid, the order was take out. First off, they missed out $8 large guac order. So there was nothing to go with the chips. The large order of chips $5, were obviously store bought. The ahogada torta was small and one dimensional in flavor. Salt. It could have used something as simple as a splash of red cider or malt vinegar and some brown sugar or similar sweet balance. The pollo pibil was marginally better because the slaw added some crisp moisture and a bit more complexity. But still the primary flavor profile was salt. The breads were average, nothing special. The salsa del dia was average. All for $45. We won't bother ordering again.

Biked to Guero w the fam. Love this little Mexican cafe. Casual but feels sort of authentic and cool. Love the outdoor seating w European style chairs. The tortas were great, although next time I’d probably try one of the bowls I noticed people eating. Often busy so you may wait a bit. You order before you’re allowed to sit at a table, so that helps. And the Paloma was refreshing and tasty! Will go back.

Was recently complaining that since Esparza left, we don't have any Latin food in the neighborhood where we can take kids. Then I noticed guero and saw it pop up on bon appetite's best new restaurant list. And the re right! We all had the carnitas torte. I was expecting it to be more of a tostada, but learned the torte is a sandwich on amazing bread - with the grilled butter like diners of yesterday year. A total calorie/carb splurge but great! Also loved the pickled onions, cilantro, cabbage on top. Perfect flavor combo. Also, the he Paloma was wonderful - not too sweet. We sat outside since the inside was full on a very hot night but outside was mostly shaded and pleasant. Good came pretty quickly. Vibe inside and music playlist were great too. Will definitely be back, and want to try the bowl style food I saw others eating. Definitely go!

I like here! The torta I has was actually amazingly good. Don't forget the sauces (green!). It is kinda loud, but I enjoyed sitting outside with my friends watching people walk around and be all jealous of my pork torta.

The carnitas gotta is hands down, the best thing ever! My love for shredded meat blinds me from looking any further. The roll is so delish and the topics are so fresh, the esquites and the refrito torta were also to die for! Sitting outside on a warm day, sipping a margarita And finishing with a de la rosa marzipan candy.... beyond yummy!

Guy Fieri did this spot justice! The food is spectacular! The surprise is how many flavors the chef puts into each order…the spreads are one of a kind and her onion slaw is craveable!! No wonder it’s a locals favorite! We will be back many times! 🏆 👩🏽🍳 🥪 🥑 🍅 🌶️ 🧅 🇲🇽

Look it's a bit nuts to pay $9 plus tip for a margarita in my opinion BUT this one is pretty good. Grab a few tacos and a drink while you wait on your movie down the street to start and you can't go wrong

World War 2 history might have been different had Guero been on the island of Oahu, Hawaii during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Instead of the command of Tora! Tora! Tora! the Japanese squad commander in a fit of hunger, and the fact that food is a peaceful, calming and unifying force (if it tastes good), might have changed the command to Tortas! Tortas! Tortas! All kidding aside, these Tortas are exceptional! A few nights ago I tried the Carnitas Torta which is shredded pork, avocado, fresh onion, cilantro, lime, cabbage, pink pickled onion, chile lime aioli, on a toasted telera bun. It was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Tonight I tried the Hamburguesa which was good, but I think the pork one is better. They also offer two vegetarian style Tortas and one featuring eggs. They have sides and I recommend the Guacomole Tostada which was very good. This use to be a food cart I read, but now is in this wonderful brick and mortar building on SE 28th Avenue. Service is excellent, the atmosphere casual, but most importantly the food tastes great and you can't argue with the price. For those craving alcoholic beverages they have numerous choices of Mezcales, Tequila, beer, wine, and cocktails like Margarita's. For the elderly and children like myself they have a fine selection of Mexican soda's. coffee, teas, Horchatas, and Agua also known as water. The place was packed out tonight so that proves that this place is doing very well. Since Big's Chicken burned down last night, I am happy to know I have this place to fall back on for an excellent meal that is affordable.

This is not a fancy fine dining restaurant but rather a great place for lunch or dinner for really great tortas and a variety of other menu choices. I’ve tried every torta on the menu and each one is excellent. Highly recommended.

Mexican sandwiches and vegetarian bowls is what you get at this very casual local dine in/out place and yes they serve alcohol

Great pit stop for a cold tasty beer. Some great offerings, I had the pilsner and was a great tasting beer. check it out!

A Mexican food that is a real treat to try is Tortas. Walk up counter, very casual and then just go for whatever sounds good. The chips and guacamole were delicious and the tortas are large so we shared. Then went down the street for some gelato. Fun time with family.

I was so blown away when a friend and I stopped by Guero! The food is fresh and the attention to detail is unmatched, especially for the price. I think I preferred the bowls, actually, which is saying something because the tortas are incredible. Both are so filling. Every meal was just as beautiful as it was amazingly delicious. I am so happy that I ate there and I wish I lived in Portland so I could eat there every day! There is a beer cart right next to it, so you can even have a beer to go with it!

The new restaurant , graduated from a food cart, is 20 blocks from the burnside bridge. She had the desayuno sandwich, a mouthwatering concoction of avacado, egg, meat, and Wonderfulness that will bring us back again. I had the carnitas which, for Portland, was quite good. Add a couple of $5.00 negro modelos drafts and it is bliss. Order at the counter. I also tasted their Posole while is authentic, if a bit thinner than my receipe but very tasty . Each sandwich is about $11.00

Stopped in for a quick lunch with family. Helpful staff, fair prices and great food. What more could you want?

Excellent spot for lunch. I had the carnitas torta. So good. The sandwich was huge so ordering a side wasn't necessary. Try the carrot mango salsa!

This is a great place for really good, authentic tortas. While not cheat (my carnitas torta was $9.50), it was definitely big enough for two meals -- if you can stop eating it!

Guero started out as a food truck and has evolved into a brick and mortar restaurant. Excellent and friendly service. While the tortas, especially the carnitas torta, are the stars of the show, don't miss the bowls. Very healthy helpings of meat, lettuce, onions, salsa, and all the good things in life. Full bar, featuring very tasty frozen and rocks margaritas. We happened to be there during Game 1 of Warriors vs. Trailblazers and Guero had the game on a big screen in the back of the restaurant. Needless to say, a good time was had by all even though the Warriors won the game.

Excellent food. Kind people. My wife loves the Tortas, I prefer the bowls. Simple, clean, healthy, and taste great. Excellent value for your dining dollar. Cart is integrated with others on SE 28th just below Burnside. They also just opening a new sit down restaurant about 5 blocks up at NE 28th & Davis. If at all possible, the food is even better there, and includes a bar.. Very popular when we were there last weekend. Crowded by quick turnover.

Güero was the favorite place a friend and I ate at when visiting Portland. The tortas are delicious. My friend got the carnitas and I got the chicken and we each got half of both tortas. I liked the carnitas better but both were pretty good. Their habanero-carrot salsa is also great. Also, make sure to get a side of esquites. You won't regret it.

Very good tasting sandwich here today. Service was fast. Staff was friendly. Price was reasonable. I would probably go back in the future.

I made plans to meet a friend for lunch at 11, which is just when Guero opens. Parking (unless you'll be there no more than an hour) was a pain, but I finally found a spot a couple of blocks away. On a sunny day not a problem - figured I'd walk off some of the delicious food I was anticipating! We were the first customers of the day. You order at the counter, but we grabbed a seat and chatted awhile before deciding. If the place was crowded, I'm sure that would be frowned on. Anyway, we ordered a Carnitas Torta ($9.50) and the Ahogada ($9) along with their Esquites ($3). Both sandwiches were AMAZING! We asked for them to go light on the habanero slaw and it was just the right amount of spicy for both of us. The Esquites (corn sautéed with chili and garlic with an aioli and coteja cheese was spicier, and while tasty, I would have preferred some char on the corn. By the time we were "talked out" the place was full and noisy. We patted our stomachs, and made our way to our cars fully satisfied and vowing to return with our husbands in tow. The small piece of the torta I was able to resist eating was thoroughly enjoyed by my DH, so I'll get no argument there!

It's not every day you come upon a place like this. The food is phenomenal. The flavors are so rich and spicy. I did not partake in the cocktails as it was lunch time during work hours but I would love to sip a margarita while enjoying the cart bowl. Absolutely delicious and worth every penny. Check this place out if you love tortas!

Really enjoyed this restaurant - had the Cart bowl with fried egg. Ingredients were fresh and healthy.

Amazing food, the sandwiches all had distinct flavors to try out. Cannot recommend this place enough. Only thing I would like to see is more hot sauce options but otherwise love everything about this place.

Sat outside and enjoyed the sandwiches--Vegetarian one was HUGE. Much bigger than the "meat" sandwiches my 3 comrades ordered. Homemade guac and authentic homemade chips was a good starter. Server at the window was very pleasant. There's not much room at the tall benches, but you don't need much room so it was fine. Great vibe for chillin' with friends old and new. :)

Wow, this place serves up delicious fresh bowls and tortas, super generous portions, and most of the items on the menu were priced under $10. The flavors are original -- pickled onions, habanero salsa with just enough fire, and very fresh ingredients. Tortas were just right crispy edged and a pillow of yum. Clean truck and tables with picnic benches outside. There were 4 other trucks in the lot as well so just look for the flags. Save some room in your belly and go to the corner of Ankeny for a slice of Crema Bakery's chocolate espresso bread.

the drinks are so unique and this is not Mexican food as usual. this is so unique and even the vegetarian tortas are so so good.

We went for drinks on a Friday late afternoon. Not crowded in the least. No Happy Hour that we saw, but our drinks, while expensive, were quite tasty. Tasteful decor and the tall guy wearing shorts on a chilly November night was friendly and efficient with our drink orders. Would I go back? In a flash ... especially to try their food!

we wanted to try guero at the brick and mortar place, and we each had the cart bowl....excellent....a big mix of greens, rice, beans, and much more...very filling and tasty...great staff too..very friendly and answered our questions.....just a little too hot temp-wise, but so flavorful..we will return for beer/bowls ...fun music too....thx so much..the new address is 200 ne 28th

Hands down this is a fave among food cart aficionados. It gets high marks on Yelp, Portland Monthly, Willamette Week and of course "Moi". Their tortas are crisp and filling. Service is very Portlandish. In other words, polite, casual, and hip!

OK. Just sandwiches and bowls. But wow. Delicious. Packed with flavor. I had the Ahogada sandwich. Pork shoulder and spices. It was impressive. Because it is near Burnside, parking is a pain. It's a popular place, so go early or be prepared for a little wait. But worth it. And good prices.
Good, but kinda overpriced
I have no major complaints... The Tortas were very good, but not GREAT for the price. I've had just as good tortas for less price. If they were about 1/3 bigger, they'd fit the price tag. I'm not usually one to complain about prices, but these are $9 tortas, priced for $12.
