If the weather is not too hot, and not raining, the outdoor taco bar is the place to be, especially on weekends when they have music all day. Sit under a tree, enjoying margaritas and music.

I’ve eaten at Guero’s several times. The S. Congress shopping is fun before/after a meal. I love the atmosphere and the food and service are always great!!! I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve tried. Tacos are obviously their specialty, but the salads are really fresh and delicious too.

Delicious food and drinks! Highly recommend the pork belly tacos. The margarita were on point as well. We visited Güero’s twice in the four days we were in Austin. We ate indoors once and then came back a different day and had drinks outside and listened to their live music.

The concierge from our Hotel recommended this restaurant, it is just ok. We waited like 45 mins for average food. We would not go back to this place.

Great food and service at Gueros. Had the Al Pastor tacos which were excellent. Great site on S Congress, we ate inside because it was cold but would have loved the outside vibe otherwise.

Went for lunch and it was mediocre, food was ok but nothing to rave about and the service was again ok but not great. If visiting Austin again I’d go elsewhere, I’ve read reviews about live music etc so maybe in those days/nights it’s better.

What a great spot, we sat outside and were able to people watch as we ate a light lunch. quesadillas, Nachos and Margarita's. Classic pairings that tasted great. I would definately go back again.

Great dinner and drinks at Guero's. Tamales and enchilada with salsa verde done right. Margarita's small but potent!

Unfortunately this place is just average when it comes to food. I like the bar inside and their outside music space on S. Congress is one of the things that makes Austin great. However given the food is average at best I only give it 3 stars. Should be much much better!

Casual and easy spot with various standard Tex Mex menu. Extensive margarita and craft cocktail menu. Size of drinks small but gives you a chance for variety.

3 stars for food, 5 for experience and atmosphere to average out at 4. The guac was 5 star, a great stop for beer, chips, and guac. The taco Al pastor was "ok". Super fun vibe

I have celiac disease, so for me it’s important that I eat somewhere with gluten free options. This restaurant has a separate gluten free menu. My husband and daughter are not gluten free and eat whatever they want. Parking: There is a small parking lot nearby to use. If it’s full there is a parking garage behind the restaurant. You can get parking validated when eating so just park and then use the screen at the hostess area to validate. Atmosphere: Inside is a fun and casual atmosphere. There is a salsa refill station so you can help yourself. Drinks: I had a Cadillac margarita. It’s not as large as I thought it would be, but was good. Food: My husband had an omelette and said it was the best omelette he ever had in his life. Some places put a lot of eggs and less meat and veggies. This place was the opposite and he loved it! My daughter is a picky eater and it’s always bean and cheese tacos for her. And to my surprise she said it was the best bean and cheese taco she’s ever had! (And she eats them several times a month. I had the chicken enchiladas with verde sauce. The cubed chicken was seasoned well but I think I prefer shredded chicken in enchiladas now that I tried it cubed here. Not a slam on the food, just not something I’ll try again.

We always have to stop here in Austin. We took the kids for the first time and they loved it. They have good margaritas, good salsa and chips, and good food. They have a GF menu. I always eat enchiladas, but this time I had tacos and they were great.

Very busy on Congress Ave. on a Saturday night, the Taco Bar had a place for us without a wait. Very good service and the initial offering of chips and salsa were very good. The best part of the meal. My son enjoyed his tacos and I had a couple of chalupa's. Very plain, just average. I loved the friendly service and the chips and salsa.

It was an okay place. Food was reasonably priced. Drinks were small and pricey. The tamales were delicious. Our server, Marissa, was not all there. She just put plates and drinks down, for the customer to sort out, and would forget our request. Limited parking on street but there is a parking garage behind restaurant and Guero’s does validate parking if you ask. I would not seek this place out but would eat here if others invited.

If you are traveling through Austin, this restaurant is an absolute must go. The food is so good and the staff are super friendly.

This is the type of place I would go to frequently for solid fresh and tasty Mexican food if I lived in the area. We visited for brunch and nothing disappointed. Fast, friendly and the food/atmosphere really hit the spot. Very nice waiter, as well, who pointed us to a shop for purchasing some artwork from local artists. Much appreciated!

Food was just fine and salsas were good. This area of S. Congress is very busy and parking is a premium. We did find the very expensive parking garage in the back, but read recently that Gueras will validate your ticket. They don’t mention that and that is the deal killer for me. I said I wouldn’t go back if I had to pay for parking again- that’s not worth it for me. Please let your guests know the option. It would be appreciated and you’ll have more return business if they know the parking is not an extra fee.

Fantastic service and great food. We had the queso which is outstanding. Be sure to add the chorizo. It’s a game changer.

We did not quite understand at first that the music venue is not where you can get served food as well, but it is still a cool outdoor music venue that we spent a little time at prior to moving next door into the restaurant to have dinner. The service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant itself is an eclectic and interesting place to eat and we enjoyed it. Quite a busy crowded spot as well. Our waiter was friendly and pretty good, but did forget to bring a drink and follow up as regularly as one would expect. I had a burrito (we both did) and they were wonderful and better than what we get up north for sure. I did ask for some sour cream on the side for the food and it didn't show up until I was mainly done with the meal - and they charged me for the sour cream! So, while I didn't appreciate that, it didn't spoil the whole meal as it was still great. Just a little more attention to good service would do the trick in this case. It's a fun spot and we recommend it.

Outdoor dining, on a busy walking section of street, eating really good food. That defines this wonderful experience. The cheese dip was so thick it was decadent! The tacos were messy, tasty and very filling. Soooo, sooooo good. Wash it all down with a margarita. With all of the Mexican and Tex-mex choices in Austin, we happened upon this place because they had an open table with no wait. I’m so glad we did. I will definitely go back when I’m in Austin. And I rarely repeat restaurants when I travel. Try Guero’s on South Congress. You’ll love it too!

Liked the feel of the place - they have a patio next door where you can wait for your table and enjoy the live orchestra. The food options are plenty and there is a salsa bar as well. Beer options are also good - definitely trying the place again.

Delish local spot! Casual lunch, great brisket tacos and plenty of warm chips and salsa served with your meal! Sangria was refreshing and servers friendly!

Went in there today, 4/19/2019 due to thirst. Ordered water and a cold beer. The bartender was really nice, brought chips and sauce. The pico de guillo was excellent. Cant wait to go back!

We LOVE good Mexican food!! We did not love or even like their food. Pollo was sandpaper dry and my cheese Enchilada's which were dry, stiff, hardly had any cheese and barely any enchilada sauce which was not to any of our liking. Just unusual to what was being anticipated. Nice server. They sat us in the second dining room from the entrance and had all the shades closed so it was dark and drabby. They give you little tiny salsa bowl to with the chips. I know I will not go back. Oh and they put frozen peas into their Mexican rice. Everyone at the table used their forks to take them out. It was just odd.

There was a 45 minute wait on a Saturday night, which is a common thing. They give you buzzer and you can go next door to the live music beer garden and listen to some great authenic mexican bands while you wait. The food is great. The portions are large. The beers and margs hit the spot. You will feast on chips and salsa. It's a huge loud restaurant with high table turnover, so it is not the kind of place for a quiet intimate dinner (but I'd bet its better for that during lunch). Lots of regulars and tourists.

We met some friends there for lunch on a Friday. An outstanding dining experience. The building is an old feed store with cool historic decor. The Margaritas (hand shaken) were as god as I’ve ever had. We all opted for ala carte items for lunch sampling most of their taco offerings and tamales (my litmus test of a Mexican restaurant). The fish tacos were excellent as were the tamales. The al pastor and the beef were good but they did not have any carne asada :(. They have an outdoor seating area/live music venue in additional the indoor seating and the service was top notch.

Thus is a Place than needs to be on your list for great Tex mex adventure in Austin. Chips and salsa da bomb. Really love the tacos - afterall it is a taco bar y’all. You won’t be disappointed.

I have been dining at Güero’s Taco Bar for decades and a staple restaurant in the SOCO district. The food here has always been delicious where their menu dial is between Tex-Mex and Mexican. Most of the seating is indoors with a large room in the back for big parties and a few tables for patio seating. The place is generally loud due to the brick walls echoing sound, so probably not a place to study for an exam. On this day I ordered the Buenos Dias Plato which is a half order of migas, a side of bacon or chorizo and served with refried beans and tortillas as stated on their menu. My wife and I sat in the from portion of the place which is the bar area with rickety wood flooring and interesting photos on the wall. This eatery definitely has character where any local or tourist must visit this place. We were provided with chips and a variety of salsas. Besides enchiladas my wife ordered a Chile con queso to enjoy. The warm queso was very cheesy and not too spicy. But one of the salsas is a killer to the mouth so beware. My migas were very bueno where had all the ingredients to build my own breakfast tacos. I was able to make two big ones with eggs to spare. It was nothing fancy but just basics like mom used to make. It’s truly an institution of Mexican food for old Austin.

This is a gathering place for not only locals but visitors to S Congress. Drinks are strong, staff excellent

What is all the buzz of this place about i wonder??? There was nothing really good. Tacos were blah. I would not go back nor recommend it.

Great spot on South Congress between the must see boot, hat and high fashion stores. Staff are great, prices fair. Food sensational

A huge thanks to Elicia for recommending this spot! Bomb food and bomb people with real margaritas! It was a win win!

Busy Mexican on South Congress. We had a large group, which didn’t take very long to accommodate. The food and the service was about average.

We just stumbled upon this place while shopping on South Congress- it was wonderful- very fresh , classic Tex Mex food. Had great tamales . Fun decor and great service. A quick lunch stop that was a hit with our entire group.

We had no reservations (don’t need them at this venue). We came at 7 pm and were seated quickly. They offer 2 h validation of parking per sign in front but we did not realize that had to be at the lot behind their venue not the parking garage across the street. Seats (booth) were comfortable and the noise inside made it a bit tough to talk. They do have outside seating with misting to mitigate the 94+ degree heat. We had house Margaritas (mine was supposed to be Jalapeño Margarita but had no “heat”). For appetizers we had guacamole and queso to start. The Guac was fine, the chips were fresh. The queso was “meh”. The salsas were good but I like spicier. I had fish taco and they were huge. It was again “ok” but I craved more flavor than bland. My friend had quesadilla and liked hers. I guess I grew up on Mex-Mex not Tex-Mex so I’ll keep trying. Bill came to $71

I thought this place was going to be touristy due to its location on busy South Congress but the food here was very TexMex good. The service was efficient and friendly.Food tasted fresh and distinct. Place is pretty and atmospheric.

Great tacos , great salad, and other sauces. Friendly and helpful staff, fast service and great location in Soco area. Outside covered seating. Beer is cold, perfect - enjoy

A local taco bar with options for all flavors. Beef, chicken, seafood. Taco, enchiladas, tostada, local dishes. All good. A hefty bowl of chips with 5 different dipping types. Large dining room with plenty of seating. I would suspect weekends are crowded. Food is good. With breakfast served all day.

Food was very good. Margarita a bit disappointing actually. Fun, extremely casual. Very busy at lunch time, has cool outside garden - not sure when open.

While this Taco Bar might be popular local spot, I think I’ll pass from now on. On my last visit to Austin 3 yrs ago, we stopped in for lunch and I was unimpressed. I chalked it up to the late night partying the night before. Unfortunately, I thought I would give it another try on this trip through town. I was right the first time. I tried the Tacos Especiales as they were billed as “spicy” and I wanted some flavor. They were neither tasty nor spicy. Chips were good, salsa was fairly bland and pico was tasteless. I’m done.

What a great restaurant! We went with friends who live in Austin and vouched for the authentic Mexican food. The queso was delicious, the chips crisp and perfect. I wanted the flautas (the special) but it had already sold out (before 5 pm!). Settled for a chicken taco and a brisket burrito, rice and regrows beans (and of course a frozen margarita). Everything was served by a friendly waitress who checked on us frequently. We definitely recommend this if you’re in the SoCo area.

I went with my mom, and we split a large burrito. I enjoyed how you were able to choose what you want inside the burrito, and what you want it topped with. If you go during happy hour, they have great drink specials. The drinks might be small, but they do not skimp on the amount of alcohol they put in them! We went for dinner and it was very busy, but we only waited for a half an hour, and it wasn't bad. Very friendly servers!

Went there for dinner on a Wednesday evening. We were promptly seated but the waitress service was poor. It took about 15 minutes before our waitress came back to take our order and it took much longer to get our food. We could see it sitting on the tray at the kitchen area but none of the servers seemed interested in picking it up and delivering it to us. When we finally got it, some of the food arrived luke warm. We complained and they ended up comping one of the meals. I doubt we will go back.

Stopped in to try their taco plates based on friends recommendation. Very good tacos. Should have just ordered the taco would have been plenty to eat. Neat atmosphere and great service from Sawyer.

Food was very good. Huge portions, small fajita was enough for 2. I ordered a side of mole that was amazing. The chips were made from corn tortillas instead of flour. Both red and green salsa is spicey, so far warning for the timid. Live music on Wednesday nights.

We stopped out on the patio at Guerro's for a Happy Hour Margarita and nachos --- the drinks were just average. Later in the evening, we passed by at dinner time and all the patio/sidewalk tables were filled with folks eating Tex Mex Specialties--- It smelled wonderful !!! We had reservations at another restaurant, but if we hadn't, we would have stopped at Guerro's to eat. I would love to return to South Congress for a Guerro's dinner !

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit - two adults and two college students. Great atmosphere, wonderful service, good food, and good prices. Would definitely recommend.

Great lunch at Guero's! Loved the tacos and salsa bar. Lots of indoor seating and cool garden bar/patio for scheduled live bands. Located centrally on South Congress Street. Would go back!

This was very close to one of the stops on the Hop On/Off so we jumped off for lunch. Slow service, but we were not in a rush. Very small drinks (old time bar glasses for $8). I had the two taco lunch meal. El Pastor was outstanding, Brisket was awful (my mistake for getting brisket at a Tex-Mex). Wife had the two taco as well - her shredded chicken was outstanding, but she could not remember the second later that night so must not have been that good. Glad we stopped, but just ok.

This restaurant is in a nice old building and has lots of atmosphere. The service is good and it was lovely to sit at a table and be served. We had delicious margaritas out of proper glasses and the house taco which I had was very good. The prices are reasonable

We stopped in for lunch on the weekend and got in right away. The place continued to get crowded so later arrivals appeared to have to wait a bit to get a table. The chips and dips were very good and we both had good meals of pick your own tacos and enchiladas. The help yourself bars with extra pico and other sauces was very nice. I was disappointed in the house margaritas so I would be specific in what you order. The outdoor weekend shopping in the area around the restaurant was also a plus for walking around after we ate.

Busy restaurant and bar featuring loads of tex mex entries and many tequila based drinks. On a Thursday night, it was crowded, noisy and friendly. Service was efficient but things like more water, napkins and drink refill needed us to ask... With a group made it a nice night - not sure a table for 2 would be as enjoyable

A must when visiting Austin. Great for Happy Hour. Best margarita outside of Mexico! Very reasonably priced. Great spot to people watch in SoCo.

Seated quickly, served quickly and efficiently, and the food was really good - my whole family was happy with their meals. We all had different tacos and they were all great. Beans were excellent too.

Wen in late May of 2019 while on trip to Austin. Food was absolutely terrific. Homemade tortillas and the best guacamole I heve ever had other than what I make for myself. Friendly people, great service, fair prices. Would go back in a heartbeat!

We ate here twice during our four night stay. Beef al carbon enchiladas with fresca sauce and chicken al carbon and al pastor tacos. Great, hot, chips! Like the build-your-own taco and burrito concept.

Try the chicken al carbon street tacos-everyone in our group loved than. But, the street corn is the BEST! Parking is a little crazy limited, but the outdoor space here makes up for all the circling around the block waiting for a space to open up.

Shopped with my daughter on SoCo and stopped here for lunch. I was happy we were seated right away and on the patio! Chips and salsa were served and included 3 different kinds. They were all good and the chips were fresh and crisp. I ordered a jalapeño margarita and was not a fan. It is a very small drink and lacked the flavor I was wanting. We ordered queso and it again was good....not great. For my entree I ordered a spicy taco (can’t remember the name) and it was basically steak taco with some Sriracha. Nothing spectacular. I would probably try here again when in town only if it were convenient. Too many great places to grab Mexican!!

We love Mexican Food, but unfortunately, Guero’s was lacking in flavor (everything was bland except the guacamole) & prices were super expensive. The margaritas were small & had no flavor (they tasted like tequila & water). On the upside they do have a Gluten Free menu & asked if this was due to an allergy. All that said to say I have had much better food (& much more flavorful) from a food truck & at much better prices.

We went to happy hour for their drink and food specials. We ordered their house margaritas and to be honest after a few sips of the bitter drink, I couldn’t drink anymore. I ordered an enchilada and was able to select the salsa and the meat. The chicken was so dry with very little sauce. There was no flavor and I ate a few bites. My husband ordered a combination plate of cheese sauce, scoop of guacamole, chips and a chicken enchilada. All was simply tasteless. Our server was attentive. Would not recommend.

We went to this place between 1730 hrs on a Sunday and coincided with the business and live music until 18:00 hrs. We liked and stayed at first we didn't know the dynamics of how to order, but there was no shortage of people who guided us ask in ka barra drink and food and in another Venranira they give you food and here we drinks. Nice music. Free admission do not cover. You're being blown up. We liked affordable prices

Awesome taco bar and super fun restaurant! Loved the location and ambiance. The food was fantastic. The service was slow but it’s Covid times so I am sure they are short staffed and the place was packed so they did good considering that.

Good Mexican food and great customer service. Was quick to get in and out with 7 people.Variety of dishes - we had a combo plate that was tasty.Recommend the tamales and enchiladas.

We went to Guero's on a local's recommendation. We had no reservations, and we showed up 1hr before closing. (We saw several people still coming in after us.) We were welcomed and got seated right away. Our waiter, Josh, was super friendly. Order (3 tacos, Monday-special enchiladas, and margaritas) arrived quickly, and all the food was really good. Complementary chips and salsas were also very yummy. We're glad we followed the recommendation: we had a very fun evening with great food. We would go back regularly if we were living in Austin.

Went there in the evening for dinner. Great authentic food and friendly staff. Totally recommend going there.

tacos.and quesadillas were great. Prices were good and a great casual stop in a hip area outside of downtown area. Great for lunch and for locals too. We loved it for what it offers. Salsa bar great and we have great service. This is not fine dinning folks. But for casual treat it was fine with us. Loved the chips and salsa..

A city center restaurant with tasty food, quiet ambiance, good service. We were a group of eight and every person enjoyed the food and drink. Good seating both inside and out. Reasonable prices and a wide selection of dishes.

Very good food. Huge portions. Good salsas. Enough to take home for dinner. We had 2 Hughes portions for around $45. All good. Parking tight on Congress. May have to walk a few blocks.

We went for lunch and definitely went on the early side which I think was a good call. Restaurant was quite large but did get filled up and relatively loud. Complementary chips and different kinds of salsa were yummy. Husband and I both got tacos and margaritas and we cleaned our plates. I got the frozen margarita classic with strawberry and it was def the best margarita I have ever had. Highly recommend.

We really enjoyed the queso with chorizo and the green salsa. I ordered the enchilada with mole and chicken taco, it was very tasty and the mole was authentic. The parking is limited and is very busy on Saturdays. There’s outdoor seating too!

My husband and I ate here twice during our recent visit-we were impressed both times. My favorite was a Oaxaca dish with Carne Guisada and my husband had a grilled veggie dish. The drinks are always good and the restaurant is very friendly. I recommend it.

Wanted to experience bit more local culture so headed to Guerro's. Had some dinner and then moved outside to the bar area and live music before seeing the bats! Very lively, busy restaurant. Seems fairly tired but waiter was extremely on the ball, explained Taco options and ensured we had everything. Everyone enjoyed what they had included veggie's (2) so happily cater for all. Bill for all 4 including alcohol was under $70 so can't complain about that on current spend of food in Austin!

We (5) sat outside to people-watch... it was a busy day and I was pretty sure we'd have a long wait and the server would be rushed. I was wrong. Ezekiel was our waiter and he was great; personable, efficient, friendly and attentive. He really took care of everyone outside (I'm pretty sure he was the only server outside) with ease. The food was good.. served hot.. the drinks were good, served quickly. What I thought was going to be a tourist trap was made into a really nice local experience by Ezekiel. We'll be back

We had a enjoyable visit to this restaurant. It’s very nice has great staff and a lively atmosphere. We thought the food was ok but not the best we’ve had

Stopped at Guerro's while on business in Austin at the recommendation of a local colleague. Restaurant is located in the lively South Congress area and is just minutes from the Texas State Capitol Building. I had the brisket enchiladas with beans and rice. The food was great, nice TexMex flavor, huge portions and very good value for the money. Good selection of Mexican and Domestic Beers to choose from. Will definitely come back the next time in Austin.

We stopped in Guero’s on a whim since we found a free parking spot right behind the restaurant. There’s outdoor tables on the walkway that would be great for people watching and enjoying the bustling atmosphere on Congress. Since we had a larger group, we ate inside. The decor is really eclectic and fun, and the music is upbeat. They put us in the back room at first, (where we were alone with another larger group) and it didn’t have music so we requested to be moved to the main seating. We ordered the fish tacos, the al pastor tacos, the spinach enchiladas (heavenly avocado cream sauce), and kid’s meals. All of the food was fresh, seasoned well, and the corn tortillas were so soft and pliable and tasty. They put plenty of big hunks of grilled fish on the tacos and they were large and stuffed with the cabbage topping and just enough dressing. That was a great gluten free option for my daughter who has celiac. We loved the al pastor too - the pineapple sets that off. Overall, great service and a tasty lunch!

real tex mex food with great service. good range of tacos and burritos, beers and wines. great meeting place.

I enjoyed dinner at Guero's. Service was very good, seating was fast despite being a Saturday night. Food was above average for Mexican restaurants, I enjoyed my beef fajitas. Price was reasonable.

The food was really nice and fresh. Great service coupled with reasonable price makes it a preferred dining option.

We stopped in for lunch on a Tuesday and were glad we did! It wasn't overly busy and we were seated right away. The atmosphere is sort of a cool taqueria thing going on. Chips and salsa are good, and they have a nice little salsa bar. I ordered the Fish Taco Plate ($12.79), and the tacos were really good. My wife ordered one Macho Taco (grilled steak), and one Guera Taco (grilled chicken) which were $4.99 each. She really liked her tacos as well. Service was good. With sodas and sales tax, our bill came in at just under $30, so not exactly a cheap lunch. But worth it in my opinion. We'll definitely be back next time in Austin.

They were great. The meal came with Tostitos and unlimited sides (salsa hot sauce etc), the lemonade was good and bottomless. Tasty enchiladas and tacos and fast from the kitchen. The tacos are made in house

My daughter and I stopped in to Güero's for lunch. Before our table was ready, we stopped in at the bar inside. The gentleman was greeting everyone as if they were friends, and he treated us the same way. We ordered The Don and a Jalapeño Rita as we waited for our table. Both drinks were very good. Chips and salsa came with our drinks. The interior is done very nice with a fountain and lots of tile and very large. Decorated very cute! We ate at the tables in the front to people watch as we ate. We had a shrimp fajita to share with corn tortillas which was plenty! We stopped back at Güero's the following day for another margarita and the same bartender was working. He remembered the drinks we had ordered the previous day. Pretty impressive!

Excellent margaritas if you don’t like them sweet. Beef brisket and chicken enchiladas and steak tacos were delicious. Three complimentary salsas came with tortilla chips and each was delicious. Friendly and prompt service. We enjoyed it so much yesterday that we came back today!

Came here for a late lunch with a friend. I had the prawn fajitas which were very good (also very generous portion) and the guacamole we shared to start was one of the best I've had. It was also happy hour when we were there so we had some frozen margaritas which were very good!

I randomly stopped in here for lunch while wandering the SoCo area of Austin. The bartender, Cesar recommended the seasonal special turkey tamales. They were DELICIOSO! I also had some chips, salsa and fresh guacamole and a tasty bloody Mary. I wasn't here long but I would definitely go back here again the next time I am in Austin!

This iconic restaurant has an amazing outdoor patio for eating and watching live music. The indoor restaurant is very comfortable and authentic, and truly gives that Austin vibe. The food is really good and fresh, and always tasty. Located in the heart of South Congress district this is a must stop when coming to Austin, or when showing friends or family I'm out of town.

We stopped in for a cool, refreshing (alcoholic) beverage, and a chance to sit and listen to some live music. The bar wasn't super packed when we arrived, so we were able to order and pay for our two margaritas (one frozen, one over ice) and mosey into the open space to find a table. We got lucky in that regard, as there was a small table close to the stage. The band that day was a trio - one guitarist, one bassist and one drummer. I never heard them say their band name, but we did like them...and so did the assembled crowd! People were up dancing - women, men, children. The guitarist/singer had a great voice - he almost had a 50's vibe to it - and the bass player knew how to work the crowd, going out and picking up his massive instrument, throwing it over his shoulder while still playing. We did take advantage of their chips and salsa bar, to help soak up some of the booze in the margarita (that bartender did not play around!), but didn't partake in any of the food from the restaurant.

Such good tacos! Really strong margaritas. This huge place could accommodate our big party & everyone loved the food. Good vegan options!

Located in the ultra-hip South Congress area of Austin this iconic taco bar Mexican restaurant is one of the very best in Austin and one of my all-time favorites. They have great food amazing service and some of the best margaritas in town. They have a huge indoor seating area, a nice front porch with misters right out on the street to watch everybody go by, and interviewed outdoor seating area with live music. They have a big parking garage behind the restaurant that does validate parking and gives you enough time to walk around down on South Congress check out all the cool shops.

We went strolling up and down S. Congress on a Sunday and found this gem. Live music outside with tasty drinks and respectable prices! Music goes til 6 pm. Being a Sunday, crowd was tolerable not overwhelming. Will definitely visit again when in town.

Beware! The parking garage next to Gueros is not only expensive with an on site attendant but my vehicle was broken into. The alarm went off for a full minute and the attendant claimed they heard nothing. Cops in this town will not pursue crimes of theft. We had over $6,000 in vehicle damage and stolen items. Very likely an inside job including the attendant.

We had three adults and a toddler in our party, with part of the group with egg/dairy allergies. Those in our group with allergies were able to order from the vegan menu with some changes and it seemed the restaurant was happy to oblige. One in our group had the tamales and enjoyed them. The queso over the tamales was very good. Our group shared the guacamole and we all agreed it was pretty good. I had two tacos (one chicken and one steak) with rice and beans. The tacos were okay and the rice and beans were good. Once we had our drinks and placed our food order, our server was a little hard to track down when we needed something. I would probably give this place a chance again the next time I'm in Austin.

We enjoyed a couple tacos after a show at Continental on a Friday night. We picked the spicy ones and they did not disappoint. The chips and salsa were good. We hoped to hear the band in the beer garden but they were cleared out before 10p

Service was fast and done well. That will be the last good thing said. The margs were really bad. Bitter and watered down. Not even sure how you mess them up this bad. Then comes the food. Tamale was bland, guacamole was bland…..let’s just say the meal was bland and bitter. The mole was the best item, and it was not great. Rice and beans……you get the picture. We live in the area so been here a few times, won’t be back. Matter of fact drinks were so bad we went to another bar just to have a drink. Austin has way too many choices for something this poor.

Can’t beat the location and hospitality of this place. Very busy but the food and service was excellent. Great spot along south congress street. The margaritas were excellent as well.

Hole in the wall pizza slice that is amazing, what else could you ask for. Had a few slices here after a couple of nights out, highly recommended it.

Great place, serving good food and featuring live music with no cover. The outdoor stage area is awesome. A must-visit when in Austin.

tacos rule. we should all be able to agree on that right? if you want a great taco this is the place. everyone was super friendly. the margaritas rocked. had a great time. we were in and out just quick enough. yummy.

The food is always consistent and great, but I have one request. Gueros changed their salsa a while back and I really loved that salsa. I know several others who did as well. Is there any way to bring it back. Your current salsa is a mainstream average salsa. The old salsa was amazing.

On the uphill walk from our hotel, I joked that this place better be worth it......boy was it! From the salsa bar, huge burrito(pictured), chili reno, tamales to the sangria, all was fabulous!

Visiting the area on a Sunday afternoon, Had to park in a parking garage and it ended up costing $25.00! Had stopped to go check out a candle store which is two blocks from the restaurant, then decided to try the place on the sales clerk’s recommendation. Chips were store bought, salsas were lacking, as we found out with our entrees as well. Just no seasoning used. Nice old place but sure not playing Mexican music but pop crap as I call it. They do not even have regular chili gravy for enchiladas!! The chicken used was small dried out pieces, beans were out of a can, at least they were to me. The tamale was huge, double the size of most tamales served elsewhere, but again, no seasoning. Yes, plates looked appealing, but taste just wasn’t there for us.

Good crowd and a cool spot; however, our food was marginal and the service was as well. Street tacos and the music venue is better.

During the big festivals I always park myself and my friends on the corner table on the sidewalk. Cold beer, great food and fantastic energy and people watching. Love this place, one of my always go-to have people in town joints.

Very touristy. Decent music. Tacos very bland. No draft beer, only cans, very limited selection.Older customers.

We read the reviews and were really excited to try it. Unfortunately it was simply ok. The queso was nothing great and lacked flavor and they gave us a second giant serving of chips, which they had already given us with the salsa when we sat down. We had the enchiladas and tacos Ala cart. The beef enchiladas were really spicy. The chicken tacos lacked any flavor. The worst was the margaritas. The plain ones were very heavy with alcohol and served in a tiny, 8oz glass. It was more of a shot of tequila with a splash of lime juice. Not worth the $$

Just wasn’t for me😐 I don’t eat pork or beef. So I had the chicken taco and a shrimp taco. Food was hot, service was excellent. It was busy even for a Monday night. I didn’t really like it. But different strokes for different folks.

Great food and service!! Everything we had was excellent. Fun atmosphere. Perfect Tex-Mex experience.

Guero's gets very busy on a Saturday night, we were lucky to only wait for 15 minutes. The service was fast even though the restaurant was packed. I ordered a combo and I wish I'd only gotten the tamales, they were so fresh and flavorful.

We came here because last time was so good. This time the chips were excellent but the tacos were average. My husband hand the combo plate and it was also average. This was sad because last time it was so good

Ladies trip ( we drink and eat a lot)..... The place is super decorated and has a great vibe, may be on the loud dished but its a great place to sit a while , eat chips and many dips and have great drinks. The food was hot and really good..i was surprised it wasn't spicy but was great quality. Large menu selection so u can find what u are familiar with and something different. our waitress helped with all ordering and had great suggestions.

You know you love a place when your still thinking about how much fun you had and great food, a week later. That’s Gueros ! Always have friendly positive helpful staff, plus a salsa bar to refill your fav salsa with your chips. Have live music outdoors, with weather permitting, always a crowd, all having a great time. Too large of portions for me, always need a togo box( not plastic nor styrofoam) yea ! Plus the whole area is full of great places to walk off your bloated feeling. 5 stars in my book.

stumbled across it by accident as we were just looking for a place to have beer. A great buzz about the place and good service. We made a point of returning a second time when we also had food - extremely good and great value. Music was tremendous.

We rented the party room for a rehearsal dinner for our son’s wedding. We hosted 42. The owner & I communicated by email as we live out of town. She was helpful & accommodated our special needs. Everything was as we requested. The staff were friendly, efficient & attentive. Everyone loved the room, food & beverages. We had enough privacy for toasts, etc. We would highly recommend Gueros for any private event.

They start you off with a large portion of tortilla chips with green salsa, red salsa and pico de gallo. We had the two taco plate that comes with your choice of beans and rice — the beef was amazing... Freshly grilled! Service was good; we never lacked anything. You can eat indoors (very spacious) or on the small terrace. Enjoy!

It was great to grab a quick bite in a local favorite. My order was forgotten, but they were able to rectify the situation once informed.

We were a group of 5 people looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant for lunch. We were not disappointed! Tortilla chips, salsa and guacamole came while we waited for our order. And the food came very fast! Enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas all delicious. Good size portions. Nice option to mix and match, for example one taco and one enchilada instead of just having to get a platter of one thing. Server was very helpful with suggestions. My husband and son came back later to the patio to listen to music and said the margaritas were very tasty! Not a fancy place but very comfortable in a convenient South Congress St. location.

Great spot for drinks. The food is just so so. Bland, no flavor, not exciting. Nothing really bad just no taste. It was also freezing cold inside on a nice warm day. Great if you like eating in cold restaurants in the summer.

After seeing a piece on a food show about Guero’s I had to check it out. Hands down a best find for great food and setting. Great service from Wade who has worked there 23 years - enough said. Parking behind building so easy access. Shared fajitas and they were delish with accompaniments of guacamole, sour cream, picante, and more. And I tried a tamale because what are the holidays without one and equally yummy. I can’t wait for warmer weather to dine outside.

Upon entrance we were promptly attended. Our waiter brought us chips and salsa, took our orders and in minutes, food was on the table. Tasty and plentiful.

South Congress is a cool area and Guero's is certainly worth stopping by. Sizable tacos, delicious queso and great service.

As soon as I sat down I felt that I was in the right place. While it took a few minutes to grab our waiters attention. Once we engaged, the service was doing on all cylinders. While my Margarita was average. I switched to a shot and a beer and that kept things on track. I shared the large order of fajitas and they were so good I could not stop eating them. I can't blame them for my lack of dietary control. In retrospect this place is one of the reasons you to visit Austin and I plan to return before my trip is over.

Been coming here for years. It is a great Austin landmark. Perfect for drinks, dinner or a refreshment stop in between shopping ;-). The food and service are always good.

Quick lunch spot! Breakfast tacos all day! Drinks are stout and food is great. Perfect place to stop for a lunch date. Tortillas are homemade and the portions are nice. Definitely a place to grab Texmex and a bev!!

Very tasty food for a night out with family or friends. Service was great. Both the outdoor and indoor eating areas are quite nice. Plates/dinners run large. Margaritas are on the small side yet packed some punch. Would recommend when in SoCo.

Walked thru the SoCo district and decided on a whim to have fish tacos and a small order of guacamole. We were not disappointed! Our waitress was friendly & offered expert advice to our question about portions. She brought a basket of tortilla chips & invited us to make selections at the salsa bar. Fresh corn & flour tacos we're being made right there, too. The fish was cooked perfectly, portions were generous, prices reasonable and service very nice.

Awesome!! Ambience was good. Food and drink were excellent. Must dine experience if you visit Austin. The restaurant is clean and staff are friendly. Lot of history to this place.

Great vibe and we felt very welcomed here . Service was good, but the food was OK at best. Could use more spice and sauce. Great chips and salsa.

Located on South Congress Avenue in what seems quite a bohemian neighbourhood with many bars, venues and quirky shops. I visited on a Sunday evening and it was busy inside and out, with a pleasant buzzing vibe. The drinks menu features a number of margaritas, of which I chose a pretty classic version with agave tequila, Cointreau and lime juice on the rocks with salt on the glass. However, they have many variants you can try. The margarita was very tasty. My party shared a bowl of tortillas with salsa, guacamole and quesa dips. I ordered a mixed plate featuring a chicken enchilada with sour cream, a pork taco on flour bread, and salad and beans (I’m afraid I can’t recall the type of beans). All of it was tasty and well-prepared, though I preferred the taco to the enchilada. One of my friends ordered a burrito, which was huge and took some finishing. Overall, the food and drinks were good, the service quick and helpful, and the atmosphere was great fun.

Guero's was a restaurant that we happened upon wandering around Austin. We were seated immediately and ordered food. The menu was varied and the salsa bar had a lot to offer as we needed replenishing. Margarita was small, but there are larger sizes available. I intend to revisit if I ever end up in Austin again!!

We stopped in here on a weeknight for dinner after a long day and although it was pretty crowded we got seated right away. The service was good. I ordered the steak tacos and the best part was the customer is able to order their own fillings. They were so delicious. My husband ordered a steak burrito and it was also delicious. The rice and beans were just average, nothing to rave about unlike our main dishes.

Recommended by a resident who we trust we were impressed by this place. The staff was hard working and attentive from the hostess to the parking lot manager. The food was great. Do not forget the salsa bar. They brought us us so many of the freshest chips we went for refills a lot. The waiters suggestions for dinner were spot on. I loved the al pastor burrito and the al carbonne burrito. Note there is a parking garage in the back of the restaurant where you can get parking validated and avoid having to find or pay to park

Delicious Mexican food and very good service. Atmosphere of the restaurant was really good and the decor was awesome. Would definitely come back for more food.

Love coming here. It is usually very busy with long wait in the afternoon but walked right in for breakfast. It a local and visitors favorite right on Congress!

Wouldn't recommend this place. The beef enchiladas were not good. The meat inside had no flavoring at all. The sauce on top of the enchiladas was not good either. We sent the first margaritas back because they just weren't good. The second margaritas were just as bad. Don't waste your time and money in this place.

Stopped this afternoon while wandering the SOCO area - only ordered a margarita - was probably the worst one I have ever had! Too bad, because their outdoor seating with entertainment is very nice!

We go to Guero's every week or two, usually on Friday which is probably their most busy date. We love it and the food is excellent, the service equally so and the menu is page after page of possibilities. The interior is not the FAKE authentic you see at the chains. This place is like it is because, well, this is who they are. We often get the fish tacos and a couple of beers. There is a salsa bar where you can get the salsa of your choice. If you are in Austin, go to Guero's. Maybe buy a T shirt and wear it and people who have been there will comment on it too.

We visited here totally off the cuff while strolling down south congress. The weather was really sunny so we needed to re-hydrate! Before we knew it, we'd ordered a margarita and a jalapeño margarita for the spicy señorita that I am. They brought us some free nacho chips with guacamole. This was perfect pit stop to our south congress bar crawl. The vibe is totally relaxed, and cheap and cheerful, would definitely recommend.

Was okay. Food and atmosphere were good. Typical Tex-Mex that was good, but not spectacular. I enjoyed my tacos. Service was responsive.

The restaurant serves tasty Tacos among other food items. Alcoholic beverages are also available. Rates are also reasonable.

Cute local place - we were seating within about 15 minutes at 6:30 on a Friday night but it quickly got busier. They are known for their tacos and margaritas - both were pretty average. It was very loud but a fun little place to visit in Austin.

We happened upon this spot on accident. It did not disappoint. The tortillas are made fresh daily and you can even watch while they are being made. I had the chilaquiles which were delicious. This is one of my all time favorite breakfast dishes and you don't find it very often. My husband had the huevos rancheros and he really enjoyed his meal as well. We both had our own made to order margaritas and they were enjoyable as well. We like to be able to pick our own tequila. The wait staff was very nice and we didn't have to wait too long for our food. When we are in Austin again, we will definitely hit this place up.

My wife and I had a fantastic meal. We absolutely loved the steak tacos and enchiladas. Our server was so friendly and helpful.

Average at best. The enchiladas were okay- rice & beans were a bit blah. I had the pollo soup- not what I was looking for. Too many chunks of veggies, not enough chicken & rice. Didn’t really like it. I’ve had so much better at other restaurants. My friends weren’t impressed either.

Unfortunately, the place was a bit of a disappointment for us. The drinks were not as good as hoped, and it was very loud and hectic here. The food was good though, with the sauces there was unlimed refill, there were many vegetarian dishes and also vegans.

We enjoyed a Friday afternoon lunch at Guero’s during a girls’ weekend in Austin. It was wonderful in all respects—casual, authentic decor with great food. The salsa bar was fun and the queso was fabulous. Large menu so there is something for everyone. This would be a great spot for families with kids, too.

We ate here twice. The service was friendly and prompt. I had enchiladas with mole sauce the first time and thought the mole sauce was slightly bitter. The second time I had tamales which were overwhelmed by thick, goopy cheese.

My friend and I thought the food was average, but we were seated right away, and the staff was friendly/efficient. The best part of my dish was the steak in my steak taco.

Excellent Margaritas on the patio, Chips with guacamole and the fresh salsa. Great time, Outstanding service.

We were told it would be at least 30+ minutes before we could get a seat, so we put our name in and went shopping next door. As soon as we walked in the door to the shop, our buzzer went off and the shop owners laughed to say that happens all the time. My friend tried ordering Jack & Coke, but they didn't have Jack Daniel's. She tried to order crispy tacos (at a taco bar?), but they only had soft tacos. When she tried to pay with cash, they wouldn't accept coins. My Enchiladas with the Fresca sauce was great. My Paloma was just ok. The server was friendly and attentive.

We had lunch here and it was wonderful. The food was excellent, delivered fast, outstanding, fun service. There were 3 of us and the food was plentiful. Everything is so authentic and spending a lunch here is such a great experience. Place fills up at lunch but we went around 1:15 and there was no trouble gettinga table. Excellent parking garage behind the place.

This place was awesome, the atmosphere, tacos, chips and salsa and margaritas were phenomenal!!! At first I was disappointed in the small size of he margarita but about half way through the tiny glass I realized it was packing some major tequila punch!

Went for dinner. My food ratings were below: Casa Margarita: 1.2/10 (literally the worst margarita I have ever had) Flamengo cheese with chorizo: 7.3/10 Salsa: 7.5/10 Pastor Taco: 8.1/10 Brisket taco: 7.9/10 Tex mex meal: 6.9/10 Bbq sauce: 9.2/10 Rice: 9.7/10 Beans: 5.4/10 Refried Beans: 6.4/10 Chips: 9.6/10

The service was efficient and friendly. The food was nothing special. I’m sure we could have found better TexMex elsewhere. Would not reccomend.

Here’s a revised review: "As a Southern California native, I've got high standards for Mexican food. While this place definitely leans towards Tex-Mex, I'm pleasantly surprised! The margaritas are fantastic, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. I'm officially hooked!"

We were recommended this restaurant by a couple from New York that we met on a trail in Big Bend National Park. So happy that we stopped off, we had chilli peppers stuffed with chicken with black beans and salad. It was fabulous and the service was very good too. Really funky place with a great atmosphere. Thanks all.

Chips(Crisps) came out as i sat down and we're refillable, same went for the Diet coke and the water. I tried the enchillada - it was pretty good, the staff recommended a verde sauce which was unreal.

Came here on a Friday evening and was lucky to get an outside table right next to the stage. You have to go into the restaurant and order take out and that's quite easy. I had the Shrimp Taco plate and it was truly the best taco I have ever had! There is a nice selection of salsas to add and the chips are wonderful. The evening entertainment was great and the whole experience was quite memorable. We will return!!

We enjoy the black bean tamale plate. The atmosphere is eclectic, the food is vegetarian/vegan friendly and the service is good. The fact that they comp parking in the multi-level garage across the alley is a benefit, too!

Delicious tacos coming in large portions in the right setting on South Congress Ave-the real feel of Austin. A must visit!

We loved our meal, and the chips and salsa. The margarita options were plentiful and the tequila pour was heavy

Stopped in for lunch. We enjoyed everything we ate, the servers were helpful, place was clean. Food yummy and a huge selection to choose from.

The weather was nice so we sat on the patio. South Congress was busy so it was great people watching. Our waiter was great; attentive and offered suggestions. The salsa was very good and flavorful. Our waiter had to refill several times. The food was just okay. almost bland. But the killer was the margaritas were awful. How can a Mexican restaurant stay in business with bad margaritas?

After a long time away from austin I couldn’t wait to get back to Güero’s, in fact i drove across town for it. Waitress Eleanor was non attentive with an attitude as if we were a bother. Fajitas were served on a cold plate with barely enough meat for 3 tacos. Food was mediocre at best - there are a million better places for tacos and fajitas.
Busy place - really good fish tacos
Busy place - really good fish taco. A little pricey, but good food and good service. Very friendly staff!
