We had to wait a while to get in - even at 2:00 in the afternoon. But the food was just delicious! Service is friendly and efficient. Would definitely come back here for lunch.

This area has gotten very popular and is a fun place to visit for a night out. Put your name on the waiting list for restaurant and then go outside around the corner to wait. Start with a Margarita under a huge tree, enjoy the band and maybe a dance. Then you'll be ready for some good authentic Mexican food.

Best salsa I've ever had. Love the atmosphere and decor and the tacos are addicting. Wait staff was perfect. Can't go to Austin without stopping here!

Tourist trap. It was the only restaurant without a line so we tried it.... not great. Definitely not authentic. People were nice though just not high quality food .

Guero's Brisket tacos rivaled Franklin's brisket in an open faced flour tortilla. The food was all very good and the service was great but principally due to a busy Saturday afternoon the hostess stand was a bit of a zoo. Highly recommended for lunch and then head to the garden for some music. Classic Austin food and entertainment.

The service was great! The food was fantastic. I loved the salsa bar! Be sure to check out the little cantina next door as they have free chips and salsa, beer and food for sale, and live music! It was a great little outdoor stage and a great way to escape from the city for a bit.

Four of us were here for lunch on a recent weekday. We were seated immediately and had a friendly server. The decor is cool, the salsas are OK (there is a self-serve salsa bar with multiple choices) but the food is merely average. Our guacamole was so bad we didn't finish it. That said, prices are reasonable. Full bar, street parking.

This restaurant was a block or two from my hotel so I thought I'd give it a try. I sat at the counter where they hand make tortillas. Unfortunately the woman wasn't making anything at the time but still it was nice sitting there. I ordered a chicken taco dinner. It came with rice and beans. I also ordered an appetizer of guacamole. It was made very well. I like the fact they have a condiment bar with several types of salsa and jalapeños. For a drink I ordered a margarita. The margaritas are very small in size but pretty potent. I ended up ordering a couple of them. My dinner was great. I thought the food was excellent, and tasted very good. I wouldn't hesitate coming back here again the next time I'm in Austin.

Great, festive atmosphere. Fast service- our party all enjoyed the fresh food and delicious margaritas. Despite being crowded for Saturday lunch the service was fast, our server was efficient and our meal was good and reasonably priced. Didn't feel rushed to 'move on'.

Very delicious food, very friendly staff, very fun atmosphere. Just very. We were there during SXSW, and even though it was packed, we were served quickly and courteously.

Really good food and atmosphere, the food is great, having live music made the experience even better. good service and a fun atmosphere will make this a regular stop when in San Antonio.

The margs are served in an untraditional glass for sure but they pack a punch. The food is good but on the small side for portions but flavor is right on. The outside bar and music is great and a must!!

it is in the center of the going out part of town and offers good food and service. And fine people watching

In town for the weekend with a few other couples. After some live music at local bars, we were hungry. We decided to talk down the street till we saw something we liked. The delish smells coming from their outdoor eating area was amazing! Fresh air, fresh and tasty food, and live music. We waited in a line for 15-20 mins to order our food, but as they cook it and hand it out the window to you.....I can’t complain. The chicken taco was good. My husband loved his bean tamale. Theres a small toppings bar. BUT....the con queso was what really made the meal. So good! Not going to lie we put it in everything! Count on people from Wisconsin falling in love with the cheese! If you’re in the area, it’s so worth it! There’s an actual restaurant too, but we just ate outside! Great atmosphere and great vibe! Did I mention the awesome queso?!?! :)

This was the first place we ate on our honeymoon so it might get an extra star for that. It might also get an extra star for the man who was walking two ferrets on leashes just outside. Regardless, the food was very good and the green salsa was A+. We also got margaritas but they weren't anything spectacularly creative -- same mix for all but with different tequila options. Good choice for Tex Mex.

On a Friday afternoon about 2:30, we were told there was a 15 minute wait for a table of 2. They gave us a buzzer so we could have walked around but we ordered mojitos at the bar while waiting and the drinks was just okay. It was not really minty and probably could have been better with a tad bit more sugar. After waiting about 20+ minutes, We ordered tacos - fish and pork and they both seemed dry. This place is very popular and loud. Our waiter was good but definitely seemed harried.

There are too many great restaurants serving the same type of cuisine in Austin to make this place worth a visit. The main problem is a total lack of spice and seasoning. Specifically...bland salsa, way too much masa in the highly touted tamales, weak margaritas, and under seasoned sauces on the enchiladas. Disappointing.

I am kind of a Tex-Mex snob, growing up in south Texas. While this food was good, it really is more of a 'taco bar' than a Tex-Mex eatery I was hoping for. That said, the food was solid and the prices were good and lower than many other Austin eateries. The service, however, was pretty bad. We had to flag down waiters to get drink refills, etc.. Would I go there again, sure, it was a nice enough place. Would I recommend it, probably, but not if someone is looking for authentic Tex-Mex/Cal-Mex style food.

Perfect experience. We went there for breakfast and enjoyed some perfect tacos. Nachos were gluten-free which was important for us. Friendly staff, very decent prices and high quality. Perfect breakfast experience. We loved it.

Great margaritas, great atmosphere, great people watching place, very authentic Mexican food. The staff is always great, too! One of the most likely places to have a celebrity spotting, too. I hope they always stay the way they are - very Austin!

Stopped in for lunch here. Very busy place at lunch time. Most people were waiting but I sat at bar to avoid it. Had a couple of chicken tacos and a beer. All very standard issue fare. Good but unmemorable. Service was fine

Eat here every time we visit Austin, typically with the grandkids. Excellent food, more than ample portions, generous chips and dips, fun atmosphere. Putting aside political preferences, one week after one of our dinners here President Clinton showed up to eat here. Must be pretty good if he'd heard of it. We love it!

Was it the best I've ever had? No, but it was pretty good, no complaints. We had friendly, quick service and the food was good. Our server was very knowledgable about the menu and a variety of drinks- she didn't steer us wrong & we were all happy with our meals which consisted of: shrimp tacos, a variety of meat tacos, empanadas & enchiladas. I'd definitely visit again.

Quick service, good food, great people watching. Visit each time we are in Austin. Great range of menu items and freshness is very good.

We were excited to try Gueros after reading raving reviews regarding their gluten free menu and their margaritas. First off, while traditional margaritas made without nasty mixers are usually fool proof, somehow the two different margaritas we had were the absolute worst drinks I've ever had. Both tasted like tequila mixed with water, no flavor, no lime, tons of ice. I would definitely skip the $10 price tag for drinks here. Second, their gluten free menu was very limited compared to their full menu. While I expect it to be smaller this is a Mexican restaurant where most things would be inherently gluten free if they were making things from scratch. The enchiladas I ordered tasted like a frozen dinner with tasteless chicken, minimal cheese, and a very bland Roja sauce. A few shakes of salt, squeeze of lime, and a scoop of their pico de gallo made it average. My husband had their pork and beef tamales and they were AMAZING, seriously SO good. The Chile Con Queso wasn't overpowering and the masa was perfectly fluffy and slightly sweet. I would definitely recommend them. Overall it seemed to be hit or miss for us and I probably wouldn't return unless it was just for a plate of tamales.

A favorite in Austin, Guero’s has terrific food, casual and relaxing atmosphere, with great prices! A must for visitors and natives alike. A wait on weekends, but worth it.

We took our small children to this restaurant while in town visiting. The food was delicious and the salsas had more flavor than most. If you are drinking, get the frozen margarita. My husband said it's the best he's ever had and I agree. Surprisingly, my sister had hers on the rock and it wasn't nearly as good (a fluke maybe?). We sat outside and the misting fans made it totally doable, so we were able to people watch in SoCo.

Great atmosphere with delicious food you won't leave hungry as these portions are not small grab a burrito supreme with Al pastor meat you can't go wrong.

I do not visit Austin without a stop here. Sit in the bar, order the chips and salsa, and watch the world go by through the front windows. Rob the owner is a terrific guy. Be sure to say hello.

We were introduced to this great eatery by my cousin who are local Austinites. Breakfast was most plentiful! They did not miss a beat. Great salsa bar. All homemade even the tortillas.

We had heard this had great food but it was a little disappointing. We had better Mexican food at several other places. The garden area was outdoors, of course, and had great music. Locals were very friendly and shared tables.

Gueros is a go to restaurant for locals and tourist, in the heart of South Congress. Really good Margaritas, Salsa bar, and Mexican food. No trip to Austin is complete with hitting Gueros.

We loved the atmosphere here and when we arrived late in the evening midweek the staff were very Friendly. Loved the beef tacos the best. Great margaritas to wash it down with too. Would definitely come back here if in Austin again

I stopped in here after a recommendation from my hotel staff and was glad I did. The decor ans atmosphere of the establishment is nice, with the buildings walls being over 100 years old. For luch I decided onthe burrito and it was one of the biggest I've ever had, but definitely the best. The chicken and beans inside were very tasty and the mix of sauces over the top gave it a nice bit of extra flavor. There is also a small salad bar with toppings you can grab for your tortilla chips. Wasn't too crowded around lunch time and service was pretty good, not fast but not slow either.

One of my Tex Mex favourites in Texas. I will always stop by when I am in Austin. Great tacos and do not wiss having a drink and listen the the band at the backyard

Gueros under the oaks is the place to enjoy Music, great food, full bar, plenty of room under the oaks with great view of the stage. Do yourself a favor. Che k it out.

These tacos are some of the best. Homemade and pressed right in front of you. The other food is good as well. I also had the tortilla soup and it was really good. My fiancee had migas and chirizo and said they were amazing!!!!

Just down the road from the Continental Club a great place for some really solid tex-mex. Salsa bar is quality and my combination plate was really good. Would certainly return.

Decided to check it out based on recommendation from a local. I found the food bland and uninspired. It is packed and popular but maybe overrated. The margarita was weak. I had the señorita plate. Definitely not worth the line in my opinion.

Been here a couple of times. Great fast service with tasty salsa options and a good menu to choose from. Not to mention the really good margaritas. Wide range Of people here locals college students not far from downtown. An easy walk with lots to do in the area after dinner

Just do yourself a favor and eat as many tacos here as often as you can. The little pork street tacos and the chicken tacos with that orange color to them are my favs!

Right in the heart of SoCo, great eatery for original Tex Mex. Menu is extensive, food great, and best Margarita ever! Detached from main restaurant which is located in old feed store, are tables outside with live music. Fun place!

Yummy fresh food. Good drinks. Sat outside. Friendly service. Clean bathrooms. Group liked all our food. Pet friendly outside.

Visited on a recommendation to only be disappointed. The margaritas are small. Waitstaff was very impatient. Food was average at best. I'd recommend a taco truck!

Took forever to get a drink..no seats..ok band but weather was nice so we wanted to be outdoors..tacos looked good.. but without a seat and such a long line Dont know if we would go back..but we did enjoy the whole so Co Area is great

Nice drinks with chips and variety of dips and hot sauces that were perfect in the middle of the afternoon. Drink prices were high, but free chips and unique salsa choices made it all the more reasonable.

A nice place to visit and some authentic Tex-Mex. I was impressed with their musical venue though it didn't start for another day after our visit. Good portions, well spiced and great chips and salsa.

Great, casual atmosphere. Waitstaff willing to accommodate whatever you are in the mood for. Went here two nights of four night stay -- had brisket tacos, chickens tacos, and chicken enchiladas, all which were totally tasty. In the minority of those who didn't love the margaritas-- so tried a fresh squeezed grapefruit juice with patron silver tequila and thought I was in heaven!! And everything is very well priced. Definitely make this a stop if you are up for a fun night out with perhaps a little wait for your table.

It’s in an old cool building on South Congress. Tacos with a twist or your standard combination plates. Salsa bar and nice bar with all kinds of margarita specials.

We stopped by Gueros on an evening when they were hosting a radio broadcast of two talented musicians. It was great sitting in their outdoor beer garden, enjoying margaritas and tacos while listening to great music.

A must Every Time while in Austin. I don’t consider it an Austin visit unless I get here. Great open air music.., margaritas to die for..food consistent and amazing!

Perhaps what I liked best was the Eclectic wait staff in all flavors and orientations. They and the constant stream of equally interesting patrons kept me off of my IPhone for most of the meal. The food was moderately and intelligently spiced a rarity in Taco Bars who seem to compete with each other for how much spice they can use. My Cheese Taco soup was good because the spicing was even. Corn would have added missing sweetness. My taco salad was a good sized plate of lettuce and tomatoes with an over abundance of taco strips. I added a brisket that was a bit too dry and just a tad too bland. My wife enjoyed her single fish taco the perfect size. The restaurant is busy and with its reasonable prices and decent food it earns its business.

I have been to Gueros a handful of other times but always for lunch & margaritas which has always been great. This visit I ate their twice for breakfast and stopped by a 3rd time to have a margarita. My wife and I were blown away by how great their breakfast was and how inexpensive it was. I had breakfast tacos both times and my wife had an omelet both times and everything was perfect. The salsa bar is a nice touch as well! I would recommend getting breakfast here if you have the chance! For me it's a mandatory stop if I'm in Austin.

The tacos, queso flameado, tamales and other food items were all very good. Moreover, we really liked having the salsa bar there so we could refill our bowls instead of endlessly harassing the waiter (as salsa pigs like us tend to do). However, the best parts of the experience were equal parts (1) the interesting and tasty margaritas (from an extensive menu), and (2) our jovial, attentive and prompt waiter. It all made for a great hour.

An outstanding experience!!! The food was delicious. Our service was great! We had a group of 16 and our server was very attentive and helpful. He anticipated our every need. Highly recommend this restaurant if you're in Austin.

Stopped in after buying boots at Allens boot shop for a quick bite and Margaritas very authentic and good and spicy I suggest the quesadilla plate nice place

The shrimp tacos are fantastic, as are the fresh margaritas, and I love their salsa bar! They usually have live music on their patio Thursday through Sunday. Sit under the trees outdoors, and enjoy a cold beer while watching live music, or get up and dance a little!

Had lunch here and was pretty good food. The chips and salsa were very good and we had multiple plates of various Mexican dishes. Everyone enjoyed the food and drinks. The service was good and the ambiance was fine. Good food and good value - plus the chips and salsa are really good.

This is a large, appealing and friendly Mexican restaurant well placed within the shopping area of South Congress. Generous, and tasty

Awesome Mexican food! The place has a cool vibe. The margaritas are very good! The food was awesome. When your in Austin give this place a try!

Yes, it's busy. But it's good. And authentic. Huge portions, fast, friendly service in warm, lively cantina. If you like Mexican food and a genuine south of the border vibe, you have to come to Gueros

Guero's is in a nice location and has plenty of seating, with ample space between tables, which is usually hard to find in many places. They have a generous portion of complimentary chips (comes with Tomatillo Salsa, Regular Salsa, & Pico de Gallo), which we added a side of Guacamole to. We also got a couple of House Margaritas - Frozen Mango & Shaken Raspberry. The Raspberry was surprisingly good - not too tart not too sweet. In all, this is a fun place to get a drink and just chat with friends.

We couldn't wait to eat Mexican food upon our early arrival in Austin so we visited at 11am on a Wednesday morning; our service was very fast. The chips that were brought to the table were light and delicious, as were the (both slightly hot) red and verde salsas that accompanied. We chose 2 chicken enchiladas - one with verde and one with mole sauce - and a sautéed veggie enchilada with fresca sauce, all of which which were absolutely stellar. The coffee we had was...less than stellar, though it strangely tasted good with our food. Wouldn't order the coffee again. (Speaking of: we actually stopped by the next evening for a drink at the bar. I got a house margarita which was...fine...but I wouldn't order it again either.) The building is an old feed store which I think is awesome. Overall, would definitely recommend/come back!

Being from South Texas, the food here is inedible. Tamales are mushy. Flour tortillas aren't fresh, etc. Service is not professional. This is nothing but a tourist trap. Unfortunately, my Pittsburgh wife likes it, so I have to visit every so often.

I ate here just after I arrived in Austin for a conference. Just a short walk across the bridge from the hotel. The place was very busy so I sat at the bar. Service was a bit slow at times. I had a taco plate of some kind and it was very good. Their salsa is also very good. The margaritas were good but I had to ask for less ice with the second one because I felt that the first one was mostly ice. Would definitely return to try more items on the menu.

This is a funky little place that has suuuuch good food. The chips come with three types of salsa, all good and with a kick, I had to force myself to stop! I had an excellent Margarita which was so smooth, I almost thought there was no Tequila in it. (there was..it snuck up on me!) I ordered the fish taco, al pastor combo as recommended by my server, and it came with homemade corn tortillas. It was soo good and the sauces for each were really rich and complimentary. The fish was flaky soft, cooked perfectly. My server was really sweet, checked on me frequently. The whole staff seemed like they really enjoyed working there, and it made it very comfortable.

The drinks are good, the food is average and we only go here when we are meeting others downtown and they want tacos or to specifically eat there. The wait staff tries their best, but the staff behind the desk have not worked with our larger groups on getting us seated within 90 minutes (or longer), and let us all stand there while many more are seated.

Stopped in for chips, guac and margaritas and was disappointed by the lack of flavor of all! Maybe the rest of the menu is better, but I don't know why you'd wait in line to go here.

We wanted to try some Tex-Mex while we were in Austin and Guero's didn't disappoint! They have a good selection of meats for soft tacos or enchiladas with different sauces and/or toppings, served with rice and choice of refried, black or charro beans. Great salsas with different heat levels to satisfy most people's tastes. I would have preferred some more cheese on my carnitas enchiladas but the flavor was good.

Had the tacos which had a very generous amount of meat, almost too much causing the corn tortillas to rip open. The meat was overly seasoned. The beans were very bland. Rice was just ok. Iced tea was stale. But, the service was friendly and prompt. With all of the excellent food in Austin, there is really no reason to eat here other than the good location.

Best Mexican food I've ever had. We came for lunch, then dinner, and several times over a period of ten days. Gluten free menu! Great service, fine vibes, friendly place with best chick soup and red snapper in Austin .

I have been here 4 times before, and even though I know their food is medium at best, the location and vibe is fun. However, yesterday, even during off hours and 1/2 full, the service was horrendous. Could not get a beer, a napkin, a fork, our tab. I would expect more from a place that has been around for a while. Don't come here for great authentic Tex-Mex, better options abound

We had heard so much about the bats under the bridge on Congress we had to go see it for ourselves!!! It is a must see if you are in Austin, at dusk over a million bats come fluttering out and the sky turns black there are so many of them. Anyway the restaurant is on Congress not far from bridge. There were four of us and we all had very good texmex dinners. Margaritas were good and they kept bring bowls of chips and salsa. Funky sorta of place but my daughter and her girlfriend, both grad students loved it!

Gueros is definitely not the great and friendly restaurant it once was. The food has gone from bad to worst. The last time we visited, we had roaches running around the table and that is unacceptable. I would be embarrassed to recommend this place to anyone.

Good basic Tex Mex. Nothing bad or outstanding. The service was adequate but seemed bored. Lots of standing around chatting with coworkers instead of checking on tables. Lots better choices.

Had the steak burrito and was amazing, juicy, and very filling! Sangria also good and guac tasteful. Nice decor. Slightly pricey but overall recommend.

First time to visit Austin and our very good friends brought us to this restaurant for lunch -- food was great & customer service was awesome! Will be back when we visit Austin again!

FYI- keep an eye open, famous people eat here... Don’t bother them while they are enjoying fabulous food & margaritas. Try the pickled onions.

If you're looking for fun, great music, delicious tacos, good drinks and an outstanding venue, this is it! How super nice to sit under the magnificent large live oaks on benches or tables and enjoy the atmosphere of this most enjoyable spot. The live music both days was fabulous. People dancing, kids running around with a nice family environment, good sound system and people just really enjoying themselves. This should be one of the top 5 things to do when in Austin... I plan to be back ASAP.

So so nothing to write home about. Service was ok and it was very. Hey. Chips and salsa were free - salsa comes in three different kinds which we liked. Guac order is small and looks underwhelming. Overall portions size were good. Salad with chicken (taco salad) was alright and the tasting platter was good. Overall just like a chain and no wow factor

Really good home chips & salsa along with everything else of what I could see. My wife had the tortilla soup w chicken & we both loved it. I had a brisket taco (great flavorful & tender) & a al pastor (awesome authentic taste as I remember it in Mexico all the way down to slicing it fresh from the rotating steak on the side of the grill). Very busy, high energy place, we got sat right away. We would go again & recommend.

Stopped here with wife and 1 year old for a quick dine before heading on to San Antonio. The experience was well above average. We were immediately seated. My one year old son enjoyed performing for diners nearby. The food was excellent (brisket tacos). We were in and out within an hour and quite pleased. Happy hour specials were good. This is a great place to dine and people watch. What's good about Austin life!

Guero's Taco Bar always has live music and young and old alike are welcome to get up and dance! Walk in, find a seat, get a drink, or a taco or chips and enjoy this outdoor venue.

Came here for lunch while on business. Served chips and 3 different salsas. There was a salsa bar for additional salsa. Menu limited and no lunch menu. Tacos and Enchiladas as well as other entrees available. Most entrees $11-15. We got the tacos which were very good but there are add ons to the tacos like guacamole for $1.69. Service was decent. Would come back.

I have been eating at Gueros since 1987ish when they were on Oltorf. The salsa is addicting. The limeade is addicting. The food is consistently amazing. I typically eat the Tacos al-carbon, chicken-especial and carnigusada. (pardon the spelling). If you are visiting or on congress avenue and have a hankering for some great food, Gueros is the place.

The wait was not long but we went next door for drinks and music in the tropical patio. Our entree was beef fajitas which were juicy, tender and flavorful unlike many other TexMex places that tends to overcook the fajitas. I also had the Ricardo Taco which was grilled pork, queso fresco, grilled onions and an egg over easy on a fresh corn tortilla. That taco goes well with Carta Blanca beer.

Gueros is an institution in SOCO and a great place to see and be seen. The for is so good and they have a full bar and outside covered patio streetside. Right in the middle of SOCO, its the perfect place to eat late or mid day while doing all things South Congress.

I'm not usually a great fan of tacos, but I had the best steak and cheese taco ever at Gueros this summer. It was a hot day and we ate deep in the back where it was cool and dark. A fabulous lunch.

Every time we are within 50 miles of Austin my wife says, "Let's eat at Guero's". This is a South Congress favorite with the tourist. That may be, but the food is consistently good and the service is also consistently good, The house margarita is stout, unlike most restaurants you know there is tequila in this drink! Try the fish tacos-my wife loves them. Parking is always an issue anywhere in the SoCo area. And plan on a wait if you go at rush hour. If there's a wait, pass the time at the bar. Just pick a designated driver and have fun!

Enjoyed sitting on the patio having dinner and drinks. Food was ok nothing that went above and beyond. A good decent place to eat in South Congress.

My friend and I ate here for lunch on Sunday September 25, 2016. The service was very good and friendly and the food was good. I had enchiladas and she had tacos. The best part of the place is they have a serve your own salsa bar so you don't have to keep asking for refills. And the salsa is really good! I would go here again for lunch next time I am in Austin.

I've rarely sent food back but I had to do so here. The tamales are terrible and I've bought better at grocery stores. The friends I was with picked at their food but one really enjoyed his jalapeno margarita. The atmosphere and service was nice but if you want good texmex, skip this place. Major disappointment.

Located in the non-yuppy part of Austin, Guaro’s is one of the older Mexican restaurants, attracts a diverse customer base, and is busy. The food was OK, not special, although they do have a good selection of beers. Staff seemed to be paying more attention to each other than to the customers. We went there on local recommendation but probably will not return on our next trip to Austin.

I went because they have a vegan menu. I usually try to eat healthy so I ordered the veggies a la parrilla. I had to put tons of salsa on it to give it some taste. I usually like soy chrizon so we ordered soy taquitos but I guess I don't like the brand they use. The salsa bar is wonderful, grab all the salsa you want and the pico is excellent too.

Busy place - not exactly sure why - an Austin institution - hmmmm, time for a new chef and bar tender. Only disappointing meal in Austin - so many GREAT places. Service was bare minimum. We went with Enchiladas of various types - the smoked brisket was a bit more interesting. But the standards were all just OK. The sauce was very different than what I thought a red sauce would be, just ok. The vegetarian tacos were fine. Margaritas were truly bad....what's up with that! Atmosphere is busy but kinda like a big Denny's - so many kids/family groups/ tourists - parking is tough - it just felt like you got trapped into the idea of coming here and then left unsatisfied.

Adecuate, but could be better. The location is excellent, in the miuddle of SOCO, which is the greatest thing about this place

Stopped by with the family..Great location..Food..Service..Our waiter was the best I've had in a long time...Definitely will return :)

The food here is delicious, and it's in a great location on South Congress. We were able to walk from Gueros to the bridge to see the bats.

went on nov, saturday 29th. ordered caldo de pollo en enchiladas. my wife and mother in law pork and beef taco . we all got extremely sick. vomited all night long. something was definitely spolied yesterday.

I had seen this place in the movie CHEF. By coincidence, my son-in-law took my daughter, me, and their infant son to eat here. The food is great!!! Then, we went outside, sat and listened to amazing live music... we are going back to austin next month. This will certainly be one of our priority stops!!!!

The salsa bar was outstanding. The salsa and the pico de gallo were excellent. Most other places would charge for this kind of food. I ordered the chicken and steak burrito and it was massive. I couldn't finish it. Would definitely recommend if you want a great tasting meal.

Not my favorite mexican food place but the outdoor Guero's Grove is a great music venue/bar. There are taco's and tamales available outside. Bob Flores consistently books great bands. His group, The Flames play on most Friday nights. Check the website for times/bands when you're in Austin.

In America size matters. If size mattered to me this would be the greatest restaurant on earth. (Attached: photo of my burrito).

The restaurant’s atmosphere and definitely the outdoor music venue’s atmosphere is wonderful. The food was awful however. The chips were worse that Doritos covered with some kind of coating. Our food arrived barely warm. I had the Senorita plate. That was a mistake. There was a skin over the ramekin of cheese sauce where it had been warm at one time and then cooled. The tostada thing was inedible. My friends’ dirty margaritas were undrinkable, which they did comp. There’s MUCH better food elsewhere. But you can’t beat the music area where Sun Music records it’s live shows.

First of all, the music venue - Oak Garden - next door is the place to be. So fun on a Sunday afternoon!! We had beers and chips/queso and it was awesome! We did go back later that evening around 9pm to have dinner and the food is average but the service was great and we were just happy to reminisce about our day and eat a nice meal. Huge portions. Go for the happy, festive environment but not necessarily top of the line food.

I am putting this place on my must-eat in Austin. We were there several years ago and it was great. It was outstanding again. I love cheese enchiladas verde and bean chalupas. They are outstanding here. My husband had the chicken enchiladas and chili rellleno. Both were outstanding. When we were there on a Sunday, we waited an hour. On a rainy Wednesday, we got right in. I will definitely return.

This restaurant was recommended by an employee where were staying in Austin. Lots of menu choices with authentic Mexican recipes. The salsas were very good and we enjoyed our meals. The service was a bit lacking as far as attentiveness but it was acceptable.

We went there as a couple for dinner. Had a nce drink at the bar first. Food was ok but not that good and you feel things are just thrown together too quickly. All a bit scruffy as we were at a table close to where the food came out.

Have been to Guero's several times... because people visiting from out of town always want to try it. I was raised in San Antonio, so I know what mexican food is supposed to taste like... this is not it by a long shot. People always want to go have margaritas there, but theirs are a caustic concoction that I cant tolerate or comprehend why anyone would order another unless they mistake terrible for strong. They have generic menu of which I have tried several choices, only to "Scratch them off the list. Their tortillas are cardboard, their chips and salsa are ok, which makes them the best thing on the menu. It is a great location in the middle of SoCo, which I guess explains its popularity (plus the fact that Austinites dont know anything about mexican food, real tortillas, great service). Its a good place to sit at the bar with friends, drink anything from the bar that they dont make, eat chips and hang out... just dont bother with the food... go to Jack in the Box for more authentic tacos.

Definitely not great. I ordered the beef fajitas and there were very few very thin strips of beef served on a regular plate....not on a sizzling hot iron. The beans were cold and the wraps were like warm. Very unappetizing. The margarita was served in a glass the size of a small jelly or jam jar and was 60% ice with no discernable taste of tequila. The only redeeming factor was the waitress. If I were to ever be invited back there for free I would politely refuse. Taco Bell 's food it on par with this establishment.

pro's: nice atmosphere (family friendly), decent tamales cons: so-so taco's. the worst margarita i have ever had, made with the cheapest awful powdered limeade mix i would not return, too many good tex mex places in austin

The bar is awesome, but crowded, the margaritas are the best in Austin, but small.....even though the ambiance is great, drink at Guero's but eat somewhere else!

This restaurant is located in a prime spot. The service was fast and all employees were very nice. The (soft) tacos are great. I really didn't love the enchiladas.

Long tables in a noisy room but a convivial atmosphere. Heaps of chips and salsa. Impressive waiter . Menu was Extensive ! Food was plentiful but no rave reviews. The place was packed on a Friday at 2 with a wait for a table. Good place to meet up with friends.

Chips melt in your mouth very light, great! It was nice to try the different levels of sauces that came with the chips. Awesome margaritas!

This restaurant had a huge interior and a sidewalk dining area which was crowded with diners enjoying their meals. Food was Texas Mexican and quite delicious. Prices were reasonable and there was a huge variety onthe menu.

We had read reviews of Gueros and had to try it out for ourselves. We were not disappointed. The food is great....so many choices and options. It looks deceptively small from the street, but they have loads of seating inside. The staff is great too.

The food is very good, but it's the ambiance that really makes the place. Wander around the restaurant and bar to look at pictures and articles. It's definitely worth it. We were there just for some great queso and beer and were very happy with the service as well. Certainly a place to visit for a true experence.

Located in former hay feed store give this Mexican restaurant a decidedly vintage feel. The large restaurant, with outdoor seating, music, and open kitchen make this restaurant a popular one with locals and tourists alike. The queso is good and add that "Texas" element. The tacos al pastor (pork) were our top pick.

Never mind the food which is great, this place is just fab, all of South Congress is to be fair. If there is something you should try though to get your day started is the Frozen Margarita with a Grand Mariner Float! Delish! Best Margharita I have ever had. Great service too.

We visited this place twice, the first time one year ago and the second one yesterday. We were surprised that the second time was even better than the first one since we had already thought that this place was amazing.

We visited Gueros Taco Bar quite by accident after shopping in Allens for cowboy boots. Parking anywhere near South Congress can be a nightmare unless you are in the know - which we are. There is a huge Baptist church on the corner of Elizabeth and South Congress, if you drive round the back you can park in their car park for a $5 donation which is well worth it if you have ever tried to park on or around South Congress you will know it is nearly impossible. We had chile con queso, guacamole, salsa and chips to start then chicken fajitas for the main course followed by a Deluxe Pecan Blondie with ice cream. The dished were a good size and delicious. We sat just inside the door where you still feel like you are outside. There is lots of seating either on the street, inside the door or right inside the restaurant. There is also an Oak bar outside which has live music on wednesday to sunday. It was bright and airy with good atmosphere. They had t-shirts for sale and some very cute metal bat sculptures also for sale. A few nights later we saw a film called Chef which filmed a scene outside Gueros. This is the place for good Mexican food, great live music and a friendly atmosphere in Austin.

Went on a fairly busy Tuesday evening and got a relatively quiet table at the back. The menu offered what I assumed was a standard range of Tex-Mex fare. Being from outside the area, a good Tex-Mex restaurant is a treat and Guero’s did not disappoint. I had the Oaxaca Especial, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and it proved to be more than I could eat. Reading the reviews, some people obviously have more refined taste when it comes to Tex-Mex, but our group was totally satisfied with the meal and the service.

I got the brisket-filled enchiladas with ranchero sauce and was sooooo happy. The margaritas are strong and delicious. I normally judge a Mexican place on the flavor of their beans and rice, and everything was fantastic. Very reasonable price, especially if you eat your weight in chips and salsa!

Food was OK. the staff was friendly but not very efficient. They have a very good selection of Margaritas. Nice outside seating area.

Good place with large portions and varied (Mexican) dishes but without getting too excited. Normal with friendly service (and two hours FREE PARKING)

We were in here first thing Saturday morning and the service was great. I had the Buenos Dias Plato and loved being able to sample the Migas, and have some sides. Their refried beans were above average. Yum.

Stopped in during the lunch rush on a Saturday, super busy with about a 30 minute wait. We got lucky as we found a spot at the bar. The bar was super busy as well but both bartenders were very helpful and patient with all the customers. We both ordered breakfast and were happy with our selection, plus they make a great Michelada! Would definitely eat here again.

We had tacos and guac. Everything was fresh and tasted great. Price was excellent! Highly recommend it.

Güero's Taco Bar is a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere to get casual Tex-Mex or traditional Central American favorites to include the different regions of Mexico like Oaxaca. This was also sight to part of the film Chef in 2014. The full review is available to be viewed on my food blog Wine, Dine, and Play which you can follow on FB and twitter as well. I look forward to your feedback

I always want Guero's to be better than it is. It's a great location with a fantastic interior and atmosphere, with good service, but I'm always underwhelmed by the food. Not a bad place to stop and throw back some drinks at the bar.

We were in Austin for a conference and had an afternoon to kill before the meeting started. The hotel recommended the South Congress neighborhood for relaxing food and drink options. With no particular spot in mind, the taxi driver dropped us here. Tacos were tasty if uninspired. Chips and salsa were average. Everyone tried a different margarita and no one was overly impressed. The service was good and friendly. As evening fell we migrated to the outside beer garden which was much better. A great place to sit outside and listen to local music. Drinks were reasonably priced. Would return for that portion of the evening but would go elsewhere for a meal.

This place was recommended to us by a local. My bf and I liked it so much for lunch that we brought friends back in the evening for dinner! Everything that I had was yummy and seemed authentic. I loved the Tamales! Very good margaritas! Nice atmosphere too. We also ventured outside to the garden area where live music was playing- an old school Texan band. It was very cool!! If I'm ever back in Austin, I would totally go back.

Great food and atmosphere, this is the place to get a true Austin experience. If it is nice weather, sit outside for the best people watching you can find anywhere. After your meal, walk the wonderful South Congress Street for art, clothing and funky finds.

Our hotel suggested we go here for a "less chain-restaurant type of experience". Sadly it was exaclty that. food came out super fast which is fine but not when it seems like a competetive sport to get you out as fast as possible. Food was hot but lacked any depth of flavor and seemed geared towards just standard American expectations of fast-prep Tex-Mex food.

The food was average at best. The tacos had very little flavor and the salsas were bland, too. The atmosphere was fun but the food wasn't worth it.

On many visits to South Congress, we have found GT to be reliably good. The atmosphere is chaotic and fun. The waiter staff is prompt and friendly. We recommend trying Gueros when in SOCO.

So relaxed & comfortable, interesting. Good Tex-mex at good prices with friendly service. Outdoor dining available under the funky neon sign.

Guero's makes good tex mex- it's a little disappointing if you are looking for more traditional Mexican fare. The queso was very heavy with velveeta and light on "real" cheese. Enchiladas were really great, sauces were too. My margarita was a bit odd, made with vodka instead of tequila. Service was good, friendly, and prompt. Fun place to eat and visit for the novelty of tex mex food.

So we waited on a busy Saturday afternoon and had a few drinks until an outside table was ready to seat friends and Fido. Well worth the wait. Margaritas we a bit small but reasonably priced. Ask for a tall if you want them to last longer. Food was excellent, not the best but much better than average; 99% of you will love it. Excellent salsa bar. Service was cool and friendly. Well staffed. Huge place. Music patio next door. Sitting outdoors was a blast. So many people cruising by, chatting, Having fun and everyone was in good spirits. This area of town is a grazing paradise. You could spend the whole day here and not see everything.

Sat out in the garden drinking some Shiners and listened to a good band. Didn't eat but if you want a relax on a Sunday, the garden area is great. Lots of shade. May be tough getting a table.

After walking up and down South Congress, came here for some good old queso and beer. I was not disappointed.

Tasty, authentic tex mex. One of the best meals we had in Austin. You will not be disappointed. They almost lost power from a torrential rain storm that night. We could see the hail on the ground when we left!

The place is very popular. Lots of people good food service is excellent. Expect a short wait. And skip the margaritas they're week and small

Nice place with good service, lots of things to look at and authentic Mexican food. The fajitas are recommendable...

Worst house margarita I have ever had in my life. The chips that are served are not good. The tacos were okay. The service was fine.Would I go back...no.

This place was recommended to us for music on a Wednesday night. The music plays from 6pm-8pm and there is food as well. They have a bucket for donations at the door. We arrived towards the end of the music set so decided not to "pay to stay" but it looked like a lot of fun and we were sorry to have missed the full experience.

Last ate here a year ago and the standard has dropped considerably. Staff were okay but the food was below average and the rest rooms are not particularly clean. Don't go here.

Very hectic and crowed place! Went for lunch on a Saturday! the food was good. Great tacos (soft tortillas). love their rice and beans. lots of food in the plate. do have different home made sauces that you get to pick at their "salsa bar". very good for large groups. service was very good.

If you want texmex food it's a good option!. They have an excellent nachos!, they have an excellent hot sauces! The place is special!.............but the best that they have is the terrace with the live music! in summer time it's crazy!

We were looking for good Mexican in South Congress area and this place came recommended from a local count that we visited. Good fish tacos and tortilla soup. Condiments are excellent including green tomatillo salsa. Nice local flavor. Good service. What more can you ask for?!

As a first time visitor to Austin we asked several people for recommendations and were sent to Gueros. The restaurant decor was fun, but the food itself was not-so-great. We were hoping for something a bit more "authentic", and truthfully, we can get better Mexican food at home. We were too early for their outdoor area to be open, which was disappointing, as sitting outside enjoy live music and drinks would probably have made the food marginally better. This is in a high-tourist area so we shouldn't have been surprised, but we did walk away disappointed.

Great atmosphere in this place, and staff were wonderful. Hands down the best tex mex food I've ever eaten. Soft drink is very cheap here too.

No trip to Austin is complete for me without a trip to Gueros!! Do yourself a favor and go there! The cervesas are cold and the salsa is hot!!

We stopped here on the way to NM, driving 600 miles out of the way, and it was so worth it. Fresh soft tortillas, vegetables— fantastic seasoning— everything tacos should be. Have been coming here for years and the food and service never disappoint.

The shrimp echiladas were delicious! The shrimp were huge and tasty! Would definately get them again!

Hit here for happy hour drinks, chips/queso and tacos to check that block. Say outside for the people watching. Nice place with good food and good service.

This area should not be missed if you are visiting Austin. The service and food and Gueros are outstanding. It is a bit of an experience...real hipster vibe.Leave time for shopping all around the restaurant on Congress especially Tresoros across the street.

We ate here mid afternoon and enjoyed the tacos. Generous helpings and tasty too. Special thanks to the hostess who helped us Irish 60 somethings out when our taxi app failed and our phone died. 😳

Get in early for this place any weekday because it's popular with locals for lunch; we got seats under the canopy on the pavement so we could watch the world go by (not too hot in May). Cold drinks & great chips with home made dips! Try some different Mexican food via the lunch specials - the stuffed pepper was a great choice with rice, black beans & salad on the side. By the time we finished the queue was out on the pavement, look inside & it's a great old place with a real bustle & charm. The staff are great & even with a electronic failure on the tills were coping real well

Guero's is a another massively overrated south Congres institution. It has overpriced drinks and food, is invariably really hot inside, and has the skimpiest tacos in town. Often bands outside, cool vibe but just order a Lone Star and skip the food and $8 basic margarita.

... A great place for a yummy Mexican meal, with crazy good Huevos Rancheros...In a cool southwest setting, nice vibe...

YUM! Tacos al pastor - small soft taco with marinated port. $2 for a tasty little snack. Great drink choices. Enjoyed The Don with fresh lime juice.

I've been eating at Guero's ever since I was a college student in the 80's and it's still as great as ever. Every time I return to Austin, this is my first stop from the airport. I dream of it while living in San Diego. The salsa bar has bowls of the best pico de gallo, jalapeños, verde sauce, etc. dump some in your queso and you can't go wrong. Their Friday and Saturday night Shrimp special might actually be on my death row last meal request top 3. Lots of things to choose from. The spinach salad and tortilla soup rock and yes they are making tortillas in front of you! Here's the queso and the cheese enchiladas with verde sauce. The charro beans are the best!
Great lunch
We really enjoyed eating here - there is a great atmosphere and decor and lots of good choices on the menu. Delicious tacos and a great price for such a popular location. The server was friendly and there is a good choice of free sauces. Also delicious flan for desert.
