New location same high quality

By JaC |

This is the best tacos I've ever had, by far. Creative, tasty, fantastic ingredients. The specials were also great. It used to be a food truck, it is now a restaurant in LA. For this quality of food it is extremely inexpensive. I'll be back, and more than once.

Don’t believe the Hype

By Bumble-Brig |

Made reservations for 12 since we were all going to Staples Center for a concert and several folks in our party had been itching to check this place out so we did. There was a line to get in, good sign! We ordered and 6 of us were seated right away but the other 6 had to wait until a table opened up so they were seated around the corner . Not mad at that, it’s not that big of a place and they did their best at the time. You walk up and order your food and drinks. I ordered the following: Potato taquitos- very good/2 came in order. Swordfish taco- 1.$7.00.. really??? 7 bucks for a 2 bite taco. It was good but was not happy about the price. Rojas con crema- this was interesting a little on the heavy side given its cornbread and cheese. Beer- 1. That was less expensive then the taco.. The nachos seemed to be a hit although I didn’t try them. I guess you can say I’ve been there but wasn’t very excited about the food and moreover the price for everything. I’d probably skip this place and hit up a food truck .

Good but overhyped

This uber-trendy place in the super hot Arts district of Downtown LA, is run by one of the hottest new chefs in LA and the country - Wes Avila who was in the open kitchen cooking while we were there. The prices are on the high side. The best tacos are the sweet potato and other vegetable tacos. There is a paid parking lot nearby.

supremely disappointing

Stopped for a quick nosh before our Walt Disney Concert Hall event. Doorman/bouncer limits access to order counter inside! Order takers were slow and inefficient. Finally ordered two (2) tacos (lamb & grilled steak), plus a glass of wine. Given a numbered post to perch on our table. Found an empty table (which needed to be cleared), waited, and watched, as servers came out with food, searching for the matching number. Much wandering about (in circles). Our food finally arrived after almost 20 minutes. The lamb was dry and tough. The steak was better, but not great. Still no wine. Flagged down a server, and was told it would be served by someone from the bar (which was about 8 feet away from us). Took another 10 minutes before the wine was served (small pour in a plastic glass). Utterly disappointing experience; service was abysmal, food was barely edible, and attitude was insufferable. Can't imagine why we would ever return…

Sweet potato tacos with goat cheese made me shout YUM!

By slpdaughter |

The tacos are the BEST I've had! Great selection and each one is better than the last. The Guerrilla Taco truck is very popular, so be ready to wait a little bit at the Culver City location. Totally worth the wait. Don't skip the agua fresca of the day. So refreshing.

Very disappointing

I have been wanting to go here for a year or so but the food truck was never convenient and then they closed in order to open the brick and mortar. I kind of wished I hadn't gotten around to going on this trip. 3 stars is probably somewhat generous. We ordered an eggplant tostada, hamachi tostada, hangar steak taco, lamb tongue taco and mushroom taco. The tostada tortillas were nice and crunchy but the blue corn tortillas for the tacos were pretty tasteless. The eggplant on the tostada was very cold, muting the flavors and making the texture subpar. The hamachi itself was good quality. As far as the tacos go, the hangar steak was decent but nothing special. The lamb taco was $7-8 and had very little tongue and was just meh. The mushroom tacos are served in twos and I guess are meant for knife and fork use because there is salsa and a ton of greens on top of the folded tacos. Problem with that was that it was a PITA cutting bites. I spent a bunch of time trying to saw through the thing. No way I'd go back here, especially considering the quantity of good tacos elsewhere in LA.

First Time, But not my last!!

By Gail L |

Met my friend here who lives just down the way in the Arts District, and was really happy with my taco choices! My friend is a Vegan, so she was able to order the Sweet Potato Taco and the Potato Taquitos which are her favorites. I'm happy with proteins, so went with the Pork Char Xui Taco and the Hamachi Tostada. I will say the Pork taco was filled with a ton of meat, and came with some great flavored sauce and veg bits, which made a nice flavor combo and the Hamachi Tostada was also a great combo of citrus flavor with the Hamachi. Not a low-cost lunch, but very flavorful. We also enjoyed their Donuts and Sweet Corn Cake for desert and we also had one of their specialty cocktails, but I can't remember the name of it. Try it out and see for yourself! I’ll definitely go back here again with my friend in the future!

Amazing tacos!!!

By Christina F |

The sweet potato tacos are fabulous!!! I ate way more than I should have because they are so good. Fantastic customer service, and quick!!!

OK if not very hungry

By jfadds |

My overriding impression here is how small the tacos were A hungry person could knock off at least 4- which would not make this a budget gourmet stop Less hype maybe and more food ? Sweet potato was the best of the bunch Fish taco like every other you have ever had

Gourmet Tacos

The food was good but don’t expect your typical order of 3 to 4 tacos. It’s 1 taco(average $7.50) No beef tacos. NoTheyddddddon’t have

Great food at Guerilla Taco

By B. Darst |

You have to go to this restaurant when you are in LA. It is not your average taco stand. I would highly recommend the butternut squash tacos. They re like nothing you have ever had before. This an original take on a very beloved food in the LA area. Yet it still is affordable and amazing. if you want great cocktails beyond a margarita this ia also the place to go. If you love tacos and you are a foodie you have to come to this amazing restaurant in the arts district of LA

The only place I have been to where the tacos are worth the hype

By TrampingAuntie |

This place is terrific! The Baja Fried Cod Taco and Pork Char Xui Taco are absolutely spectacular. The Mushroom Tacos are delicious, even if you are not vegetarian. The fresh drinks -- yuzu pineapple limonada, mulled Jamaica and aqua fresca -- are all unique, refreshing, and delicious. This is a casual place. You pay at the counter and then they prepare and bring the food to your table. Typically, not all the food arrives at the same time, so sometimes you have to follow-up on a stray item. But the staff is so good natured, that it's really not an inconvenience.

Tacos Unparalleled

By pba1 |

Tried 6 different types of tacos and the sauces they create are unbelievable on each. Usually a great place will do one thing really well and they seem to do everything really well. Staff is very good and attentive in this order at counter then sit with a number style of dining. You can order extras once seated. They appear to have sufficient staff to cover the volume they produce. Tacos are $5 which may seem a lot to many looking for a cheap taco. These are NOT cheap tacos. I like cheap well done tacos, but these are a cut-above your average street taco. Two are sufficient for most folks.

Good tacos.

By lhunter4 |

Small menu with beautifully done tacos. Great service and fun vibe. Perfect for a quick bite in LA.

Ok, not great

By mjpesq2018 |

This place has received a lot of attention and we love tacos, but this place was a let down. They try too hard to make tacos with unusual ingredients and combinations, but most of them just don’t work. We love carnitas and al pastor, the usual suspects, but when it comes to sweet potatoes and fatty pork belly, it’s just not that good. There are so many great taco places around that there’s no reason to waste your time or money here. Very disappointing.

Well worth a visit

By Traveler2504 |

Not an extensive menu but often that means they actually pay attention to the dishes they do have. Chefs specials are usually excellent and the items we sampled were very very good. Staff were pretty attentive and really pleasant to deal with, although it wasn't busy so that may not hold true if the place is jumping. Youthful, casual vibe. Music (often my per peeve) was right on point - modern, appropriate for the cuisine but not interruptive. Decor is minimalist but again, right on point. Highly recommended if you happen to be in DTLA and worth a trip if you are a taco afficionado

Great Tacos in DTLA

By Rocky Road |

Been waiting to come here for awhile. Not disappointed. Got an Agua (fantastic), Butternut Squash Taco (excellent) and a Wild Boar "Pocho" Taco (very tasty). Can order & pay and sit at table with a number in a spray can. Full bar. Great vibe.

Best tacos ever - no contest

By The Places Where We Go Podcast |

Recently in the L.A. Downtown area, I recalled seeing Phil Rosenthal on one of his shows do a tour of food joints in L.A., including a taco place. I thought I remembered a hole in the wall taco stand, but a quick google during our drive, pointed us to Guerilla Tacos. We almost didn’t get out of the car given some sketchy folks walking on the boulevard out of their minds on drugs perhaps. But we were here, found a place to park not too far from the front entrance, and ventured on in. To get straight to the point, hands down, no contest, the very best tacos I’ve ever had in my 56 years. Unbelievable. We tried four kinds – eggplant, our first taste put us on notice immediately that we were in for something beyond special here. Flavors a plenty. Nothing like any taco I’ve ever had. These were served on open faced tortillas, with amazing salsa and toppings. Next was a butternut squash taco that also put a smile on our face. We don’t eat meat but do eat fish, so a swordfish taco was next as they were out of the salmon variety. Very nicely done. That completed our order but when we told one of the waiters who stopped by that we were stunned by how great these tacos where, he mentioned they were particularly famous for their sweet potato taco – so we said, bring us one of those. If you could see the expression on my wife’s face when she tasted that one. It was an OMG moment. A thumbs up also for having sparkling water available as part of the water station options. Seeing a GuerrilLA tacos book on the counter where we ordered, I asked one of the staff if those were offered for sale. We left with a book that offers recipes of each taco we tasted, plus plenty others. Given that we live an hour from the downtown area, I look forward to a new kind of Taco Tuesday at home trying these varieties – first up will be the Pumpkin Tacos as I’m still working through this year’s pumpkin harvest at home. Stunning – inventive – creative – passionate tacos. Bravo!

Everything I hoped it would be!

Saw this place featured on The Chef Show, season 1 volume 2 and was so excited they were open when we visited LA. We sat outside everything we tried on the menu was excellent! Well I would skip the churros next time. We had empanada appetizer, fish tacos and duck tacos

Interesting but a little disappointed

By ManyMilesTraveller |

I have ordered food at this truck a few times, as it got a lot of press, and kept an open mind after my first visits. It's good, but really not exceptional. The prices are high from what is offered. I don;t think that I will try again, but that should not stop anybody to give it a shot, if they catch that food truck.

Must visit if you are a taco fan

By Venkat G |

Situated in an 'up and coming' graffitied walled street district of Los Angeles. If you do not mind the drive this is the place to go. The potatoe taquitos in tomattilo sauce are to die for. The sweet potato tacos are great. The Baja cod taco was excellent. The drinks menu has some eclectic drinks and I tried the Paging Rum - divine. Do not think twice - absolute must visit.

The Calexico of LA

By Brooklyn453453 |

Great taco truck tacos. If you're from NY, these tacos are very similar to Calexico tacos. My cousin and his boyfriend had the crab, my boyfriend had the fish, and my son and I had the sweet potato. All of us thoroughly enjoyed them. Worth the trip to Silver Lake during our vacation.

Deeply unsatisfying tacos. Not worth the trip or the exorbitant amount of money.

By SWL |

Awful, expensive tacos. In a city of amazing tacos, there is no excuse for you to go here and spend your money. You’d be better off going to any taco truck on the street. Going in, I had high expectations, as the hype surround Wes Avila and Guerrilla Tacos is at a fever pitch. There’s no denying that the tacos and tostada are beautifully plated, but the tacos fell short of satiating my cravings for something deeply satisfying. I wish they had focused more on seasoning and less on the plating. We started out with the hamachi tostada ($11), which was okay but definitely did not justify the price tag. The tostada overpowered the hamachi which was laid on the tortilla with little seasoning, and I wish the hamachi had been prepared in a way that could have brought out the flavors a bit more. Then, the tacos came out: Sweet Potato Taco ($4) - This is it. The most hyped, disappointing taco ever. The tortilla was falling apart. The sweet potato and feta were underwhelming. I pulled not one, but TWO sticks of thyme from my mouth while eating this taco. Both sticks were buried deep in the sweet potato, so there was no way I could have seen them and picked them out ahead of time. The flavor itself was not remarkable in anyway, certainly not enough to deserve accolades. I wish I hadn’t bought into the hype and saved myself the $4. Baja Fried Cod Taco ($5) - Decent taco but way overpriced at $5. The toppings overwhelmed the fish, and it just felt like a sauce was missing to complete the dish. Short Rib Taco ($5) - Good meat but also missing a finishing touch. Tortilla was not standing up to the moisture of the short rib, which just indicates a poor quality tortilla. I would have preferred Guisados to this, since they have a better tortilla and better balanced flavor for their braised meat fillings. They’re supposed to be tacos “inspired by the city”, but I left feeling angry, hungry, and ripped off after spending $35 for two people. Would not recommend.

Just the Best

By rhopelain |

Far east of DTLA and the Arts District, Guerrilla Tacos has staked out a corner in what’s sure to be LA’s next hot neighborhood serving some of the best, most innovative, yet authentic Mexican food around. It’s not fancy: stand in line, place your order, hope a table opens up before your food comes. But, it’s all worth it. Truth be told, I’ve only had there tacos, but the bigger plates look great from afar. Don’t miss the sweet potato tacos. A revelation.

Guerilla Tacos Art District LA is a Must!

By waynefromcali |

Guerilla Tacos, the landmark Los Angeles,Calif restaurant is located in the heart of the arts district in DTLA.The food is superb, the staff is friendly and they have a full menu of mexican/fusion cuisine that is super delicious-the prices are very reasonable for such tasty and fresh cuisine.I had their braised and sauteed lamb tacos and their yellowtail tostada-both were excellent. They have a delicious green salsa and a mouth numbing habenero-its your choice. Parking lot is just across the street and it's family friendly. They have a cozy bar food area and an open air patio area if you like.Open 7 days. . . . #guerillatacos #tostadas #lambtacos #beer #craftdrinks #artsla #dtla #eatla #californiadreamin #californiadreaming

Hit & Misses

By L P |

I was so excited to try Gorilla Tacos with a Michelin star. We arrived late afternoon. The dining room has 12 - 2 top tables and the back room is the bar. The decor I would call industrial with high ceilings, brick walls, a graffiti section and an archeological cutout referencing the history of the building with a sparking open kitchen in the rear. Food presentation beautiful. One small taco on small plates. Server suggested 3 tacos for a meal and we obliged. While each ingredient on the taco was prepared perfectly, the combinations didn’t bring much more to the palette (but perfect heat.) out of the 9 tacos we ordered 3 were exceptional. Three deserts on the menu but were too full to order any. Last observation; I thought it odd that the restaurant was filled with only white customers.

Great flavours

OMG so much flavour. Maple donut desert will knock your socks off. Great cocktails. Allison & Pattie were so nice. A must visit for food & friendly & atmosphere.

yummy food

great food , we ordered one of each tacos and loved every one of them. The sweet potato taco was amazing.

Phenomenal Tacos

We hit the Guerrilla Taco truck at LA smorgasbord, and they are as good as they say. We loved the crabmeat tacos, scallop tostada, and sweet potato taco. Can't wait to return.

Very disappointing

*There seem to be two entries for Guerrilla Tacos so this is a cut/paste of my review from their other page* I have been wanting to go here for a year or so but the food truck was never convenient and then they closed in order to open the brick and mortar. Michelin gourmet tacos in the Arts District

By Shanelle |

Michelin Bib Gourmand spot with killer tacos. Came here for dinner on a Saturday night and made reservations online in advance, but there were plenty of tables available for a walk-in. My dad was initially really hesitant about coming here because he thought it would be overrated and overpriced, but by the end of the meal, he was converted. One taco is $8 (the lomo saltado was $10); we got four tacos to split between the two of us. The food came out fairly quickly and the ingredients were high quality. The sweet potato appeared to be highly recommended, and I’m glad we ordered it. My favorite was the pork belly, while my dad like the lomo saltado the best. The pocho hard shell was both of our least favorite dish (although of course it was still good). Credit cards accepted and gendered restrooms available. Street parking. Bar seating is available. Indoor table as well as outdoor table seating available.

Tacos!

By tokyorav |

These tacos ... oh my word! They are really special. There are some really unique flavors available, not just the usual (carne asada etc, fried fish etc), and they aren't just for gimmicky reasons - they taste excellent. As it is a food truck the service is not the main focal point which is understandable. Not to say the service is bad by any means. Get there early to beat the lines!

This is the best taco spot in LA

By Judith A |

Since its inception, GT has always served the most creative and delicious tacos one could find. As a devotee of the truck for years, to dine at a brick and mortar spot was most enjoyable. Better than ever. Great selection, wonderful space and a bar to match. I can't wait to go back for another dining experience and try the other savory options on the menu. Parking is not easy to find so plan ahead.

Good tacos & fun cocktails

By rachaelf666 |

We ended up here on a visit to LA as a local friend was excited to try it out. We were early and spent some time checking out the street art in the neighborhood (which was terrific.) Service at Guerrilla Tacos was speedy and friendly. I also appreciated that they have sparkling water "on tap." (How very civilized.) We had pork tacos, the steak taco, and the potato taquitos - all of which were very good. I definitely liked the steak taco the best. The drinks were fun: interesting flavors and nicely presented. I don't remember what my drink was called but it had mezcal, pineapple, and salsa in it. Sounds weird when I write it down like that but, it was delicious. For food in LA, the pricing felt completely reasonable and I was impressed to see that they add a percentage to the bill to pay for their employees healthcare; again, very civilized. I wouldn't travel to LA specifically for these tacos but if I were in the neighborhood, I'd definitely eat there again.

LA Times Ranked Guerrilla Tacos #13 of Top 101 LA Restaurants!

By Leslie D |

What, we drove from San Diego to LA to visit a food truck? You're damn right! Guerrilla Tacos is not a typical food truck dining experience. Here's three key reasons you should consider Guerrilla Tacos (GT): - LA Times food critic Jonathan Gold ranks GT #13 of his Top 101 LA restaurants. What's amazing to note here is we have a food truck (with low prices) competing against and beating the most expensive and exclusive LA restaurants! - PBS food series, "I'll Have What Phil's Having" visits restaurants around the world. In episode 6 host Phil Rosenthal visits the best of LA restaurants (link below). Watch Phil visit GT and then try not to be excited! pbs.org/show/ill-have-wh… - GT chef Wes Avila trained with some of the most recognized chefs in the world. Where else do you get a food truck chef who trained in Paris with Alain Ducasse?! Note GT operates Wednesday through Sunday, but rotates among four separate locations depending on day of the week. I recommend checking the GT website for schedule. GT also posts their daily menu online before opening. My wife and I visited on a Sunday where they operate alongside Blue Bottle Coffee (separate review) in the DTLA Arts District. Wow, the food really lived up to the hype and expectations! Wife and I shared a Pork Tostada and Oyster Mushroom Quesadilla. Unbelievable to be eating this quality of food sitting on benches outside a coffee shop! The only area I see GT improving is attention to their website. Some days GT online menu is not posted until after opening. Hey, but that is minor and won't slow my return visit to Guerrilla Tacos!

Modern Take on Tacos

By Brittany A |

I visited this place with a friend who loves it and it was a great suggestion. They offer a variety of tacos ranging from $5 to $10. I had one of the higher end prawn tacos, which was $10, but it was big enough to fill me up. However, it was so good it made me want tk try more! The guys ordered the smaller cod, beef and brisket tacos that all looked incredible. They guys confirmed my observation. Apparently, they change their menu frequently though. They also have a full bar if you're looking for a drink with your taco

Gourmet Tacos

By tiogapass |

The food is really amazing and creative! The Chef has studied with some of the finest culinary schools and chefs in the world. These are not your Mama's tacos. The only downsides are that it is difficult to find parking and that most of the dishes are based on red meat.

Must have

By Brian H |

It used to be a truck only. This place is fantastic. Inventive tacos well done. Good veggie options with sweet potato taco. Lamb taco is almost like the best gyro ever.
